Carolee In A Television Drama By Jane Rule
A Television Drama , written by Jane Rule, is the story of a woman who lives on the street
where a crime takes place. The police, swarmed just outside the woman s house, were asking
witnesses questions and looking for the suspect of a burglary that had occurred a few blocks away.
The protagonist, Carolee, is frightened by this and decides to stay inside her home. While inside
the house, she walks around aimlessly, glancing outside the windows when she spots an injured
man in her garden. She hesitates to call the policeand simply observes the man, ultimately deciding
against calling 911. Some believe that this was not a morally correct thing to do; however, Carolee
was correct in deciding not to phone the police because she thought she might have been imagining
the man in her garden, the police were already on the scene... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Had she called and told the operator that there was an injured man in her garden whom may be the
man that they were looking for and in reality she had been imagining the whole thing, it would have
caused the police to be wasting their time on nothing. The time that the police could have spent
searching for the suspect of the crime would have been wasted on a figment of Carolee s
imagination. As a result, the suspect would ve been found later than he was and since the man
was injured, his condition could have worsened. If he had been given more time to flee the scene
he could have found himself in a location that was more dangerous for the police, which in result
would have made it more dangerous for him. If the police believed that the location was unsafe, or
posed a threat to them, they may have opened fire on the suspect, ultimately giving him severe
injuries or potentially death. There is no reason to risk putting several people in more danger just
because of something she may have

They stated that search measures used by school officials to root out contraband must be reasonably
related to the objectives of the search and not excessively intrusive in light of the age and sex of the
student and the nature of the infraction. Concurring Opinion and Joining Judges Justice Souter
delivered the opinion of the Court saying that the search did violate Savanna Fourth Amendment
right because no drugs were suspected to be concealed in her bra and underwear so they had no
reason . The judge felt the school officials were not liable and entitled to qualified immunity
because school officials were just trying to prevent drugs distributed throughout the school. Justice
Ginsburg also had a concurring opinion. He agreed with the majority that the school administrators
were qualifiedly immune to prosecution. However, he argued that the judiciary should not meddle
with decisions school administrators make that are in the interest of keeping their schools safe.
Dissenting Opinion and Joining Judges Justice Thomas had a dissenting opinion and stated that the
fourth amendment right does protect us against unreasonable search and seizures (as did most of
the judges). But it is the context of were it takes place he says students have the fourth amendment
right just not on school property. The reason is the responsibility the school and the officials have is
to ensure the safety of the students. Thomas concurred in the

The Crucial Role Of Obesity In Public Health
In today s society, obesity plays a very crucial role in many people s lives. It is the condition of
being overweight, caused by eating too much and involving in less physical activity. It is mainly
caused by eating excess amounts of fats and sugars, which remains stored in our body as fats. A

The purpose of the book review is to provide information on the different types of heart diseases
and their causes. There are many different heart diseases which some people are born with it and
most of them develop over the course of one s lifetime. Some of the most common heart diseases
are Coronary Artery Disease, Angina, Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Peripheral Arterial Disease
and Silent Ischemia. One of the most common heart diseases is Heart attack (Myocardial
Infarction), it is when a part of the heart muscle is damaged and blood flow is interrupted
causing a blockage. If the blockage is small enough it still will ultimately let blood flow but when
it s extremely damaged, it causes blockage and leads to a heart attack. Heart failure is another
mutual form of heart disease; it happens when the heart stops pumping blood to meet our bodies
need. Heart failure is misunderstood at most times, people believe that an individual is about to die,
but it false because heart failure indicates that the heart in not squeezing enough blood for the body
s needs. The information provided in this book review clearly illustrates the different types of heart
diseases, cause and symptoms, making it a very important foundation. ( Manninen, V et al.,

Character Analysis Of Shouto Todoroki My Hero
The character I ve chosen is Shouto Todoroki My Hero Academia, which is written by Horikoshi
Kouhei. He s also one of the main protagonists of the story. Todoroki is generally calm, blunt, and
cold. I find it funny how unintelligent he is when it comes to other people s emotions, and even
though he means well sometimes, his words sometimes come off as harsh. He s mainly portrayed
as a calm and collected individual, but Todoroki can get riled up sometimes. Additionally, he s not
one to easily let go of his angeror hatred towards others. Todoroki is 176 cm, or approximately 5 9 ,
as officially stated in his characterprofile. He has heterochromia, as his right eye is gray while his
left eye is blue. Furthermore, his hair is also split evenly into different colors, the left half being
red and the right half being white. Todoroki also has a burn scar over his left eye, from when he
was younger and his mother threw boiling water over his face. His heterochromia and hair is a
not so subtle hint at his power, which is to burn with his left half, and freeze with his right.
However, Todoroki only uses his ability to freeze ice for the majority of the story, due to his
grudge towards his father. He believes that his father is at fault for his mother being sent to the
hospital, and Todoroki s cold personality stems from his harsh upbringing. In My HeroAcademia, a
week before final exams, their teacher reminds them to study for the exams, and some of his
classmates admit that

The Chemical Element Of Uranium
Background
Uranium (U) is a chemical element; it is a silvery white metal. It is one of the heaviest of all the
naturally occurring elements. It was discovered in 1789 by Martin Klaproth, it was named after the
planet Uranus, which was discovered eight years earlier. Uranium can be found naturally in small
amounts in rocks, air, soil and water.
PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
Atomic number 92
Atomic mass 238.03 g.mol 1
Density 18.95 g.cm 3 at 20В°C
Boiling point 3818 В°C
Melting point 1132 В°C
Isotopes 11
Electro Negativity according to Pauling 1.7
Uranium is hard, malleable and ductile. Uranium metal has a very high density. It is very reactive
so cannot be found in the environment in its elemental form. When finely divided, it can react
with cold water. In air it is coated by uranium oxide, tarnishing rapidly. It is attacked by steam and
acids. It has the ability to form solid solutions and inter metallic compounds with many metals.
While Uranium is not hazardous by itself, some of its by products and decay products pose a huge
threat upon build up.
Uranium is weakly radioactive due to its unstable isotopes; again it has gained importance in the
generation of Nuclear energy. It is of great demand in the production of bullets, missiles and
bombs. It is also used to fuel power plants by enriching it with the uranium 235 isotope. The
isotope uranium 238 is used to estimate the age of rocks and also used for radiometric dating. Other

Theme Of The Book Thief
An Analysis of Developing Themes Inside Markus Zusak s The Book Thief Growing up isn t
easy. Growing up in a war infested environment with the constant threat of being bombed,
terrorized, or taken away isn t a walk in the park either. Liesel Meminger was only nine years old
when her suffering began. Markus Zusaks The Book Thief unravels in antebellum Germany, in the
small town of Molching. Within the first few pages, the main protagonist, Liesel, witnesses the
death of brother and is abandoned by her mother, leaving two complete strangers to nurture and
raise her. Throughout the several hardships Liesel faces, three main concurrent themes are evident:
the power of words, humanity s evils, and loss with survivor s guilt. Writing can be... Show more

This is an example of humanity s evils because Hitler had gone so far that even Death himself was
stunned and surprised at Hitler s murderous intent. Another example of dehumanization would be
Hitler s view of Jews. It is evident that Hitler didn t see the Jews as actual people, and proceeded
to kill them without a second thought. The fact that eleven million people lost their life because of
Adolf Hitler is proof of his lack of humanity. Everyone is bound to die sometime. The narrator of
The Book Thief is Death, who appears whenever someone is close to death and has immortality,
unlike humans. Loss is an existing theme in the story because throughout the story, Liesel
experiences many different cases of loss first hand. At the very beginning of the book, Liesel
watches her brother die in front of her own eyes, while also losing her mother. The impact of
loss is especially great when the bombing comes. Liesel finds her best friend, Rudy, dead, as well
as her foster parents. She is also overwhelmed by the fact that there is a high chance Max is gone
forever. Even after being confronted with such loss at a young age, she keeps living and stays
with Ilsa Hermann. Survivor s guilt is also apparent in the book because it lives in both Liesel and
Hans Hubermann. Liesel not only feels this guilt after the bombing, but throughout the whole book
as well. She is traumatized after she loses her own brother and after

Tennessee v. Garner 1985 Essay
Name: Tennessee v. Garner
Citation: No. 83 1035, 83 1070 (1985)
Facts: On October 3, 1974, Memphis Police Officers Hymon and Wright were dispatched to
answer a prowler inside call. When the police arrived at the scene, a neighbor gestured to the house
where she had heard glass breaking and that someone was breaking into the house. While one of
the officer radioed that they were on the scene, the other officer went to the rear of the house
hearing a door slam and saw someone run across the backyard. The suspect, Edward Garner
stopped at a 6 feet high fence at the edge of the yard and proceeded to climb the fence as the police
officer called out police, halt. The police officer figured that if Garner made it over ... Show more

Procedure: Garner s father brought the action the police officer took in the Federal District Court
for the Western District of Tennessee, looking for violations that were made of Garner s
constitutional rights. The complaint was alleged that the shooting of Garner violated the Fourth,
Fifth, Sixth, Eighth, and Fourteenth Amendments of the United States Constitution. After a three
day trial, the District Court entered judgement for all defendants. It dismissed the claims against the
defendants as being the mayor and Officer Hymon and the Police Department as being the director
for lack of evidence. Hymon s actions were then concluded to being constitutional by being under
the Tennessee statute. The Court of Appeals affirmed with regard to Hymon, finding that he had
acted accordingly to the Tennessee statute. The Court of Appeals then reversed and remanded. It
reasoned that the killing of a fleeing suspect is seizure under the Fourth Amendment, and is
therefore constitutional only if actions are reasonable. In this case the actions were found not to be
reasonable. Officers cannot use deadly force unless they have probable cause that the suspect poses
a serious threat to the officer or has committed a felony.
Issue: Garner, the suspect s father brought forth that his unarmed son was wrongfully shot by a
police officer as his son was fleeing from the burglary of an unoccupied house. He proposed a

Dangers Of Teenagers In The Malls
Malls are not protected. This is an issue that needs to be resolved in the near future. Though not
very pondered, mall safety is a large concern in this country. Many people are unsuspecting of
the dangers when going to the mall. Teenagers should be watched by an adult until they turn
eighteen. By being accompanied by a guardian or an adult, teenagers are less likely to act out or
cause trouble. A constant eye will discourage any unorderly behavior. If the teenagers in the mall
the day they set off those firecrackers had been watched by an adult, there s a high chance that
never would have happened. Teenagers can be influenced to do the right thing just as much as
as they can be influenced to do bad. It s simply better to have any teen under the age of eighteen
need to be watched. Malls will be much calmer if this simple task is enforced in all malls. The
adult should be responsible for the teenagers and their behavior. This will serve as an incentive
for the adult to keep the teenagers tame. The adult along with the teenagers would receive the
same consequences. Teenagers attending the mall will have little to no outlet to misbehave. This
within itself eradicates some worry mall goers may have concerning their trip to the mall. It s a
fact: teenagers make dumb decisions and do dumb things! It was definitely a dumb choice to set
off fireworks in the mall. Though the teenagers were probably just wanting to fool around, they
caused mass panic and wreaked havoc on that day.

The evolution of the strike causes an evolution in the self perceptions of the Africans themselves,
one that is most noticeable in the women of Bamako, Thies, and Dakar. These women go from
seemingly standing behind the men in their lives, to walking alongside them and eventually
marching ahead of them. When the men are able to work the jobs that the train factory provides
them, the women are responsible for running the markets, preparing the food, and rearing the
children. But the onset of the strike gives the role of bread winner or perhaps more precisely bread
scavenger to the women. Women go from supporting the strike to participating in the strike.
Eventually it is the women that march on foot, over four days from Thies to Dakar. Many... Show

The men who once acted as providers for their family, now rely on their wives to scrape together
enough food in order to feed the families. The new, more obvious reliance on women as
providers begins to embolden the women. Since the women now suffer along with their striking
husbands, the wives soon see themselves as active strikers as well. The strategy of the French
managers, or toubabs as the African workers call them, of using lack of food and water to
pressure the strikers back to work, instead crystallizes for workers and their families the gross
inequities that exist between them and their French employers. The growing hardships faced by the
families only strengthens their resolve, especially that of the women. In fact, some of the husbands
that consider faltering are forced into resoluteness by their wives. It is the women, not the men,
who defend themselves with violence and clash with the armed French forces. The women
instinctively realize that women who are able to stand up to white men carrying guns are also able
to assert themselves in their homes and villages, and make themselves a part of the decision

John Stuart Mill s Final Chapter Summary
Mill begins his final chapter by trying to cover the meaning of justice, by coming up with a list
of things that are frequently classified as just or unjust. He examined what justice is and says that
it is the concept of the moral rights of an individual. He talks about so many solid examples of
injustice. Firstly, it is unjust to deprive one of his legal rights, violating one s moral rights,
everyone should receive what the deserve whether good or bad, break contracts and be partial. Mill
differentiated other outlines of moralityfrom justice through the idea of a perfect duty. Perfect
duties, are what one must always fulfil and have not choice over it, and imperfect duty is we have
a choice and just decide to help someone on our own, e.g

The Life And Death Of Satire
The Life and Death of Satire
The Encyclopedia Britannica describes satire as, an artistic form [and] is one of the most
heavily worked literary designations, and one of the most imprecise. ( Satire ). This definition
shows that satire has had time to grow and has been changed over time to encapsulate an entire
genre of literature. One of the earliest satires was The Frogs, by Aristophanes the Greek
playwright. The Frogs is a play that focuses on Dionysus, and his travels into the underworld to
get the famous playwright Euripides back from the dead. With growth comes broadening and
change, with works such as A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift, or Candide by Voltaire. A
Modest Proposal is an essay that creates a horrifying and inhumane way to deal with poverty, which
was rampant at the time. Candide is Voltaire s satirical adventure novel that has the incompetent
titular character travel the globe to regain his beautiful love. Satire then expands and incorporates
more modern people and popular events. It has even grown to incorporate the satirization of
deep philosophies and organizations with Catch 22 by Joseph Heller, or Cat s Cradle by Kurt
Vonnegut. Catch 22 is the dark comedy that looks at the autonomous and heartless bureaucracy
that our government and army have become. Cat s Cradle is a dark look at hope, and how we as
people may lie to ourselves and others, in order to enjoy hope. Satire is an art that has expanded
over time, from the early satires to the

The African Struggle Over Time
The African struggle over time has been a topic discussed by many scholars. In Walter Rodney s,
How Europe Underdeveloped Africa, he approaches the issue of how Africa s power was stolen
from them. Rodney focuses on the relationship between Africa and Europe and the effects of
exploitation on the African people by, reinforcing the conclusion that African development is
possible only on the basis of a radical break with the international capitalist system. The tone in
which the book is wrote uses Marxism, which can be controversial, to focus more on economic and
political theories. Rodney argues that if it wasn t for this exploitation, African societies would not
be impoverished today. Six chapters are used to explain the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In Chapter three Rodney focuses on the colonial period in which Africa helped develop the capitalist
progression in Europe. Colonialism was not merely a system of exploitation but one whose
essential purpose was to repatriate the profit to the so called mother land, states Rodney. Chapter
four gives an historical background of Africa in 1885 and emphasizes on the value that came from
the enslavement of Africans. This time period holds a major significance to the underdevelopment
of Africa because of the Berlin conference. Africa was then divided up due to the scramble in
which Europeans fought over power. The fifth chapter argues that colonialism was the main factor
in underveloping Africa as a whole. Rodney argues that colonialism only did one thing, and that
was steal Africa s resources and strip them of their land. Europeans took so much from the Africans
and made sure to give nothing back which explains the type of relationship they had. In chapter six,
Rodney argues against past scholars who believed that colonialism had valuable outcomes in the
end. The author shows how the economic and political state Africa was left robbed due to
colonialism, he then provides strategies to fight against the underdevelopment. It is clear that that
Rodney is pushing his audience to understand that Europe should be held

The United States And Uk Constitution
The Separation of powers refers to the idea that the major institutions of state should be functionally
independent and that no individual should have powers that span these offices. The principal
institutions are usually taken to be the executive, the legislature and the judiciary. Therefore, the
organs of state as described by Montesquieu should operate separately order to successfully
implement law and order to the UK.
Comparing both the US and UK constitution, there are some very obvious differences. For example,
the US has a written constitution whereas the UK has constitutional provisions scattered across
various statutes . The UK constitution has a lack of separation compared to the US however, this
operates under a presidential power but it is still appreciated that the UK present some separation
between the three bodies that operate the country.
So what are the major institutions and what do they aim to achieve? The legislature is Parliament,
the supreme law making body and democratic leaders of the UK. The legislature reign sovereign
over the UK as they are not bound by successors nor predecessors and have full control with regards
to the creation of statute and the repeal of statutes in existence. The executive is most commonly
known as the Government, thus formulating Government policies and executing them alike. The
judiciary are the enforcers of the law which is made by the legislature and also to adapt and
interpret laws is order to avoid absurdity

How Can Ms. G Make A Big Change
How Can Ms. G Make a Big Change
Freedom Writers is a film about a young, idealistic teacher Erin Gruwell and her class of racially
mixed students at Wilson High School in long Beach, California. It is based on a true story. The
movie shows us, how can a new inspirational teacher change the inner city and at risk students,
who all live pretty tough lives, from self desert to feel free in mind? It s believed that her optimism
and perseverance, using proper strategies to grasp the mental change and devoting all her energy to
the children, which many other teachers can learn from, make her success.
Her optimism and perseverance change the relationship with students from discriminate to mutual
respect.
As a new teacher, Erin Gruwell learned the students situation from the office and said
optimistically: I may not a good teacher, but I ll be a good student. But the first day Erin Gruwell
enters classroom with coltish enthusiasm, the students turn blind eyes to her. Part of the reason is
the racism. Ms. G is white which represents privilege that treat badly to them. Meanwhile, education
means nothing to them. They re force to study. After then she witness the terrible behavior students
did, and soon realizes that her diverse group of students is embroiled in the racial gang war culture

Managing Flexible Workforce
Managing Flexible Workforce Strategic HRM Considerations
Felipe Caamano
Keller School of Management
Introduction
Staffing is the process of acquiring, deploying, and retaining a workforce of sufficient quantity and
quality to create positive impacts on the organization s effectiveness and thus is a critical
organizational function concerned with the acquisition, deployment, and retention of the
organization s workforce.
The complexity of work and projects being done in organizations today are becoming overly
complex both in terms of scope and reach. This spans over multiple geographies, time zones,
cultures and teams. The work force today has now become diversified with employees coming from
countries such as Argentina, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, shortages of labor, both quantity and quality, threaten growth and even survival and the
ability of individual managers to effectively run their work units.
Smith (Simth et al., 2011) avers that employers today need to be able to fit to the employees
mould rather than the employee fitting into the employer s mould. This is driven by the belief that
employees are different and need to be managed as individuals rather than a one size fits all
approach as had been in the past. Every individual has different aspirations, potential, needs and
growth expectations; and it falls on the employers of today to acknowledge that and make that
change over to their human resource management practices.
Eleveld (Eleveld, 2011) brings to the attention that highly skilled and experienced professionals
who will be too expensive to hire, can be brought on board as flexible employees or contractors.
These flexible employees will have different motivations of working with organizations and will
have different priorities and hence need to be managed differently from the full time employees. It
will be to the organization s disadvantage if these choose to ignore the value these employees can
bring onto the table. The rising costs and business uncertainty is also forcing companies to scale
back their permanent hiring plans and look at flexible employees and contingent workers to
perform those responsibilities. Partridge (Partridge, 2010) mentions

Ethan Frome as a Fairy Tale
Elizabeth Ammons writes in her essay Ethan Frome as a Fairy Tale, that Ethan Frome is
designed to be read like a fairy tale (Ammons 138). Although the novel itself is bleak and a little
dark, we still recognize the characters as ones from the fairy tale Snow White. In the novel Mattie
Silver comes to live with Ethan and Zeena. Mattie takes care of Zeena along with the household
chores. When Mattie and Ethan begin to fall for each other Zeena notices. The silent tension in the
house grows greater and greater every day Mattie is in the house. In a search for their fairytale
ending the two try to take their own lives, little did they know it would lead to nothing but misery.

Mattie because she is jealous of her. Ethan tries to help Mattie, like the huntsman, by attempting to

things worse when the injuries sustained from the crash changed Mattie s personality

the Yoruba are used to decorate and to affirm their social standing,, Their art is also deeply rooted
with their spiritual commitment, especially where the art is used as part of a ritual or as a means of
communicating with their Gods.
There are over 400 deities that are worshipped by the Yoruba, which are called Orisas. Certain
Gods are worshiped by every Yoruban, but there are specific Gods that are worshiped individually
by certain families or even towns. Every Yoruban makes regular offerings to the gods that they do
worship.
One particular God, Sango, resides in the sky. He is the God of Thunder and he is responsible for
producing the lightening bolts and thunder that comes to the earth. It is the belief of the Yoruba
that If he is offended or angered, he sends bolts of lightening to the ground to ignite the offender?s
house, or even to strike and kill them dead.
Although every worshipper of the God Sango, the thunder god, owns a carved wand as a personal
shrine, it may

American Reality Show Vs. British Reality Shows
Final Research: American Reality Show Vs. British Reality Show There was a war between
Great Britain and America that ended a long time ago. Today these two cultures use this
historical event as an excuse to argue about two shows on MTV. When the time a person floating
the enormous database of Internet, it is often seen particular situations between historical
emotions still hits up the conversation. The hatred still causes an emotional war between people
from two countries. This time, it takes on the two shows: Jersey Shore Vs. Geordie Shore , a
spin off shows for British TV show series. The fans of this new shows emphasizes each other is
the better show series. However, the basic story line and a concept for both shows are practically
the same. The interesting factor about this unethical fight between two shows often calls for a
debate. This mass communication currently going on can connect to few ethical theories, sub
theories, and application of semiotic models. Whether people like either show, these two reality
shows are causing a mass of controversy between two different cultures. When there is a mass
communication takes in, it is easily connecting to few ethical theories used while the discussion

Xenophobia In District 9 Essay
Exploring Xenophobia in District 9
Thirty years ago, aliens arrive on Earth, not to conquer or give aid, but to find refuge from their
dying planet. Separated from humans in a South African area called District 9, the aliens are
managed by Multi National United, which is not concerned with the aliens welfare but will do
anything to master their advanced technology. When a company field agent Wikus contracts a
mysterious virus that begins to alter his DNA, there is only one place he can hide: District 9. The
film was directed by Neill Blomkamp and starred Sharlto Copley (Wikus). It begins as a
documentary style investigation and then as the film continues it becomes more conventional and

In the movie, there are signs saying either no prawns or no humans and the humans show a major
sign of xenophobia towards the prawns. In this day in age we see a lot of hatred towards
foreigners, in particular, terrorists. In the beginning of the movie you see Blomkamp interviewing
the humans about the prawns. They show a great level of hatred and disgust for the prawns
intruding on their town. In the real world, we see this same form of hatred or disgust from certain
people about the immigrants and refugees intruding on and taking over many American s jobs.
Blomkamp wants to push the issue that there is great hatred throughout the world today. The main
reason he produced the film in Johannesburg was because there were high tensions between native
south Africans and Zimbabwean refugees. He wanted to try to make the town he grew up in great
again. Blomkamp wanted to open people s eyes with the use of science fiction to show that in some
ways we treat other humans like the humans treated the prawns.

The Ones Who Walk Away From House Of By Ursula K. Le Guin
If the hypothesis were offered to us of a world in which Messrs. Fourier s and Bellamy s and
Morris s utopias should all be outdone, and millions kept permanently happy on the one simple
condition that a certain lost soul on the far off edge of things should lead a life of lonely torture,
what except a specific and independent sort of emotion can it be which would make us immediately
feel, even though an impulse arose within us to clutch at the happinessso offered, how hideous a
thing would be its enjoyment when deliberately accepted as the fruit of such a bargain ?
The quote above is from an American philosopher William James, who largely inspired the story

They find a way to live with the guilt. Whether they hold their children tighter, chose not to think
about the youth, or are not bothered by it, most of them just live with it.
This story was published in the year 1973; and looking at the history of what was going on in
America at that time, it is impossible to say that Ursula s writing wasn t affected by the events
occurring in that time period. The first wave feminist movement was prominent during the time,
just as the Vietnam war was still being fought, as well as many technological and scientific
changes occurring in the world. My argument is that Ursula wrote this story to combat the
utilitarian mindset that is found is so many, especially during the 1960s 1970s, and still today.
The mindset that these people in Omelas believe, that as long as it benefits the majority then
harming one is not wrong. The lesson in this story while being written in the 1970s is still highly
relevant today, when bringing in modern day politics and the top 10% vs the 90% in America.
The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas is a cautionary story, that goes deep into the psyche of
scapegoating and human morals. The first peer reviewed article I found is written by Jefferson
Flanders. By choosing exile, they have tacitly accepted the continued depravity of the child s
imprisonment. They have walked away. I agree with his statement. These people were so bothered
by the abuse of the child to keep their happiness that

The Good Life Of Andrew Carnegie
Human nature dictates the necessity of being successful and happy, and to find internal
contentment, but what truly defines the good life? Everyone makes decisions about the person
they want to be and what is most important to them: Which do you value more, your wealth or
your friendships? Do you want to be famous or truly loved? Do you care what people think or
are you just trying to please yourself? I think the good life is a combination of everything, and is
a fine line that everyone must walk if they want to be truly content. Some people consider
freedom the meaning of the good life. Thoreau teaches that the good life is freedom from desire.
To have a good life people must be free to make their own choices and mistakes. However, other
people have a different opinion about the good life Andrew Carnegie believes people can find
the good life through success and wealth. Yet still, others want neither of these, choosing instead
to stay innocent with no responsibilities like Adam and Eve, free from decisions and the stresses
of everyday life. Another view is Freud s Pleasure Principle that suggests people are interested
only in fun and doing whatever they want all the time. Moreover, these people don t want to
worry about anything else. I believe the definition of a good life can be described in three simple
words, freedom, love, and happiness. Freedom: we should be able to choose where we live, work
and what we do with our lives. Love: everyone should know what it feels

Problems with Ppaca
Problems with PPACA:
Higher Costs
PPACA has touted new benefits without measures to cut cost.1 One should know that in
America there are already federal laws and programs to cover the elderly (Medicare), the poor
(Medicaid), and uninsured children (CHIPs), In addition there is basically free or low cost care
to anyone who needs it and it is available if one looks for it. Examples include: Shriner s
hospitals, free clinics, and providers who do pro bono work. In case that wasn t enough, there are
also laws in place that ban practices of charging more to people with pre existing conditions in
employer based health insurance. The 60% of Americans who get their healthcare insurance from
their employer may actually be hurt by PPACA.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All medication purchases using FSAs or HSAs will require a prescription.1,2 Those expensive
over the counter medications will now be out of pocket expenses for every American, even if
they planned in advance with a HSA or FSA to cover the costs. More Red Tape It is hard to think
of an example where government intervention reduces red tape and the PPACA is no exception.
Anyone who receives $600 or more in compensation from a business will be required to receive a
1099 from that business at the end of the year. This ruling has been predicted to be so burdensome
to American small businesses that even Obama has vowed to sign legislation to repeal it. Currently,
the bill is gridlocked in Congress.
Under the PPAC, the employer mandate will allow employers to receive monthly reports on
subsidized employees. This has potential liability implications. Revealing personal finances to
employers exposes individuals personal information and could increase employers liability.1 A
business with the employer mandate in place and coverage for a household may see the
government tack on penalties in such instances as an employee s spouse loses a job, or an elderly
relative moves in. There is the possibility that the employers will have to pay a penalty without
knowing the full details, unless challenged and given permission by a government agency.1 Finally,
under the employer mandate, PPACA forces businesses to make decisions

Lord Of The Flies Reflection Essay
Behavior is the mirror in which everyone shows their image. This insightful quote, written by
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, relates to the story of The Lord of the Flies greatly. A person s
true color shines through when put in a place of freedom. The story, by William Golding, is
about a group of boys stranded on an island during the war. They fight to survive and their morals
change a lot in the process; both physically and mentally. The ways their appearances change was
parallel to the ways their behaviors change, including their filth and metaphorical filth, their
painted faces and sense of community, and their ways of dress compared to their rebellious
actions. The way the filth grew on the boys was parallel to the way their behaviors increased in
filth . As time went on, the filth slowly built up on their skin and in their hair They were slowly
covered in grease and dirt. Their behaviors grew in a similar manner; the boys soon grew to
make poor decisions and act very aggressively. The newly found filth and behavior was accepted
among the group as their time on the island increased. Their filth was a normal part of their lives
and everyone was okay with it. Ralph was running from the other boys and hiding in the woods,
His hair was full of dirt and tapped like the tendrils of a creeper (Golding 235). He could not get
the same amount of cleanliness while he was out in the woods. Their behaviors changed and they

The Ancient Roman World

Mr. Harrington
World History
28 November 2015
The Ancient Roman world, the various Germanic and Norse barbarians, and Christianity all played
a big role in the creation of the society, politics and ideas in the Middle Ages. You may have not
known but the beginning of the Middle Ages (5th to 15th century) is marked when the Western
Roman Empire is invaded (1000 B.C) by the Germanic barbarians who were from Northern
Europe ( Middle Ages ). The Germanic people specifically the Goths, Vandals, Saxons and Franks
adapted most of the Romans ideas and ways of living and combined it with their own creating a
new medieval culture in Western Rome. The Huns started to invade the territory north of the
Black Sea which was where the Germanic People had settled. ( Middle Ages ). This led to the
invasion of Western Rome which then led to the fall of the Western Empire who had lost almost
all their power to be able to defend themselves. During the Middle Ages Catholic churches
specifically the Popes were the ones who ruled much of the society as there was not one
government that untied all the people in Western Rome during the Middle Ages ( Christianity In
The Middle Ages. ). The society was greatly influenced by the Catholic Church at the beginning of
the Middle ages due to its power over the people and the government which allowed them to create
rules that were from God . After the collapse of the Roman Empire which occurred in the 5th
century the only church that existed in

waterfalls which crashed down the face of dark cliffs into deep pools and out again into salmon

Bjorn, who was generously acting as our guide for the day, explained that the lowland areas would

Marlow and Kurtz mentally, and then it affects what you physically.
The meaning darkness does not mean the same for everyone, it is different in our minds to what
others think, we all have different opinions of what we think something is. For example, if you
look up the word darkness or dark in a dictionary you may find more than one meaning. First
meaning it gave dark, no light, dull cutoff from the rest of the world, gloomy, sad, sinister, evil
secret, night, not knowing. These are all words that could have been used in the book.
The jungle could be sinister and evil. I find that the word secret represents what goes on in the
jungle very well. It makes you think carefully about what might be in the jungle, the dangers and
cautions of the jungle. It also seems very mystical. It shows that maybe the jungle has something to

about as far as you can on your own in charting your export strategy, it s a good time to consider
joining forces with another company of similar size and market presence that is located in a

understand exactly how a global strategic alliance works, and what it can and cannot do for you.
A Global Strategic Alliance Is Not an Acquisition A global strategic alliance is usually
established when a company wishes to edge into a related business or new geographic market
particularly one where the government prohibits imports in order to protect domestic industry.
Typically, alliances are formed between two or more corporations, each based in their home

Deafness Speech
Imagine silence. Complete silence. Being shunned by the world, totally out of the picture. This is
the life of a deaf person. Many people are not aware of the different ways of the deaf community. A
deaf person utilizes their other four senses, and are more aware of their surroundings. It is vital to
know about the growing deaf community in order to understand the beauty behind it. Deafnesscan
come with many side affects, both good and bad. Deafness has affected people in many ways, such
as through genes, communication, and worsening educational skills. Throughout many years,
people have asked, What is deafness? . Deafness is the partial or total loss of the functional senseof
hearing. Loss of hearing can result from environmental or genetic causes and it can be temporary
or permanent (Lichanska n.p.). This shows that there have been many thoughts and confusion
about deafness, as people thrive to find cures for this large obstacle. This is important because the
deaf community is growing. The human population needs to find more ways ways to make life
more convenient for the deaf community. The deaf population in the world stands at about 0.1
percent of the total population. About 10 percent of the world s people have poor to below
average hearing, where most of the people in the poor hearing range occurs in the adult population,
especially among the elderly. People in industrialized countries generally have worse hearing than

Station Four Lab Report
Station one: Station one shows that when a small piece of magnesium metal is placed over the
flame of the Bunsen burner, the magnesium metal ignites, giving off a bright, white light. Once the
flame has extinguished itself due to the lack of fuel, the magnesium metal turned from a metallic
strip to a crumbled white powder. It can be decided that station one is a combination (redox)
reaction, as a new product is synthesised by the combination of two reactants. The reactants,
magnesiumand oxygen gas in the air bonded together to form the product of magnesium oxide.
Station two: Station two shows that when a beaker full of cold water is placed over a hot candle
flame, many observations take place signifying a chemical reaction, as well as a... Show more

Subsequently, when the 2mL of sulphuric acid was added to the pink solution, the solution
immediately returned clear in colour, therefore highlighting that the solution was acidic. Station
seven can be clearly identified as a neutralisation (acid, base) reaction, as an acid and base has

Introduction
Fitness and muscle model athletes are often benchmarked as the embodiment of physical
perfection (Sundgot Borgen et al., 2011). That being said, not all athletes have, or believe that
they have, bodies adapted to the paradigm of their specific sport (Sundgot Borgen et al., 2011).
These athletes may often experience pressure to achieve this absolute ideal body type. Athletes
competing in aesthetic sports such as gymnasts, figure skaters, divers, bodybuilders experience
greater pressure to reduce weight than athletes competing in sports in which lean body mass
aesthetic are less important (Drinkwater et al., 2005). Within this class of athletes judged on
aestheticism, fitness and muscle models are a class whom are noted for dieting down to
extremely low level of body fat to display muscle. There appears to be a rise in competitive fitness
and muscle model shows and the goal to emulate if not a sporting aesthetic which will appeal
domestically and commercially. (Scott et al., 2013).
As a result of growing interest in this field of sport, there are few federations/organizations that are
currently operating

Rogue Shark Research Paper
A Rogue Shark is a shark that has chosen to attack people, possibly because they have a sensitivity
for human complexion (Anon., 2011). Their enormous figures, 85% strength mass and unbelievable
weight make them brilliant predators, Through the years of 1916 1933 Australian specialist, Victor
M. Cooperson acknowledged the concept of the Rogue Sharkwhich nations when a shark has
established a taste for humanflesh they will stay in an area or perambulation certain coastlines for

Unluckily, after many rescue and first aid attempts to stop the bleeding he passed away at the
scene. Most killings triggered by shark incidents are from blood loss as arteries are frequently
shattered. The distress and fright the bystanders would ve sensed that day from the attack would
encourage them to believe killing the Great White is the best clarification. This shark has tasted
human flesh and will kill again. This rogue shark must be hunted down and killed so that our
beaches are safe (SACE Stage 2 , n.d.). However, as a personal opinion; I believe the Great
White Shark should be conserved as there is no real advantage if its shot. The attack itself is such
a rare event, it tends to only be one or two bites, and consequently scientists believe it a fault when
these incidents/attacks happen. Shark attacks on humans only occur when the shark mistakes us for
their normal prey of seals and dolphins and then, realising their mistake, sense us by their bite and
spit us out another reason why they are attacking us is because us humans are swimming in their
environment which they call home and they are just protecting themselves just like we protect
ourselves from danger. (SACE Stage 2 ,

  • 2. Carolee In A Television Drama By Jane Rule A Television Drama , written by Jane Rule, is the story of a woman who lives on the street where a crime takes place. The police, swarmed just outside the woman s house, were asking witnesses questions and looking for the suspect of a burglary that had occurred a few blocks away. The protagonist, Carolee, is frightened by this and decides to stay inside her home. While inside the house, she walks around aimlessly, glancing outside the windows when she spots an injured man in her garden. She hesitates to call the policeand simply observes the man, ultimately deciding against calling 911. He s also one of the main protagonists of the story. Todoroki is generally calm, blunt, and cold. I find it funny how unintelligent he is when it comes to other people s emotions, and even though he means well sometimes, his words sometimes come off as harsh. He s mainly portrayed as a calm and collected individual, but Todoroki can get riled up sometimes. Additionally, he s not one to easily let go of his angeror hatred towards others. Todoroki is 176 cm, or approximately 5 9 , as officially stated in his characterprofile. He has heterochromia, as his right eye is gray while his left eye is blue. Furthermore, his hair is also split evenly into different colors, the left half being red and the right half being white. Todoroki also has a burn scar over his left eye, from when he was younger and his mother threw boiling water over his face. His heterochromia and hair is a not so subtle hint at his power, which is to burn with his left half, and freeze with his right. However, Todoroki only uses his ability to freeze ice for the majority of the story, due to his grudge towards his father. He believes that his father is at fault for his mother being sent to the hospital, and Todoroki s cold personality stems from his harsh upbringing. Uranium metal has a very high density. It is very reactive so cannot be found in the environment in its elemental form. When finely divided, it can react with cold water. In air it is coated by uranium oxide, tarnishing rapidly. It is attacked by steam and acids. It has the ability to form solid solutions and inter metallic compounds with many metals. While Uranium is not hazardous by itself, some of its by products and decay products pose a huge threat upon build up. Uranium is weakly radioactive due to its unstable isotopes; again it has gained importance in the generation of Nuclear energy. It is of great demand in the production of bullets, missiles and bombs. It is also used to fuel power plants by enriching it with the uranium 235 isotope. The isotope uranium 238 is used to estimate the age of rocks and also used for radiometric dating. Other ... The complaint was alleged that the shooting of Garner violated the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Eighth, and Fourteenth Amendments of the United States Constitution. After a three day trial, the District Court entered judgement for all defendants. It dismissed the claims against the defendants as being the mayor and Officer Hymon and the Police Department as being the director for lack of evidence. Hymon s actions were then concluded to being constitutional by being under the Tennessee statute. The Court of Appeals affirmed with regard to Hymon, finding that he had acted accordingly to the Tennessee statute. The Court of Appeals then reversed and remanded. It reasoned that the killing of a fleeing suspect is seizure under the Fourth Amendment, and is therefore constitutional only if actions are reasonable. In this case the actions were found not to be reasonable. • 11. Dangers Of Teenagers In The Malls Malls are not protected. This is an issue that needs to be resolved in the near future. Though not very pondered, mall safety is a large concern in this country. Many people are unsuspecting of the dangers when going to the mall. Teenagers should be watched by an adult until they turn eighteen. By being accompanied by a guardian or an adult, teenagers are less likely to act out or cause trouble. A constant eye will discourage any unorderly behavior. If the teenagers in the mall the day they set off those firecrackers had been watched by an adult, there s a high chance that never would have happened. Teenagers can be influenced to do the right thing just as much as as they can be influenced to do bad. It s simply better to have any teen under the age of eighteen need to be watched. Malls will be much calmer if this simple task is enforced in all malls. The adult should be responsible for the teenagers and their behavior. This will serve as an incentive for the adult to keep the teenagers tame. The adult along with the teenagers would receive the same consequences. Teenagers attending the mall will have little to no outlet to misbehave. This within itself eradicates some worry mall goers may have concerning their trip to the mall. It s a fact: teenagers make dumb decisions and do dumb things! It was definitely a dumb choice to set off fireworks in the mall. Though the teenagers were probably just wanting to fool around, they caused mass panic and wreaked havoc on that day. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When the men are able to work the jobs that the train factory provides them, the women are responsible for running the markets, preparing the food, and rearing the children. The strategy of the French managers, or toubabs as the African workers call them, of using lack of food and water to pressure the strikers back to work, instead crystallizes for workers and their families the gross inequities that exist between them and their French employers. The growing hardships faced by the families only strengthens their resolve, especially that of the women. • 14. The Life And Death Of Satire The Life and Death of Satire The Encyclopedia Britannica describes satire as, an artistic form [and] is one of the most heavily worked literary designations, and one of the most imprecise. ( Satire ). This definition shows that satire has had time to grow and has been changed over time to encapsulate an entire genre of literature. One of the earliest satires was The Frogs, by Aristophanes the Greek playwright. The Frogs is a play that focuses on Dionysus, and his travels into the underworld to get the famous playwright Euripides back from the dead. With growth comes broadening and change, with works such as A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift, or Candide by Voltaire. A Modest Proposal is an essay that creates a horrifying and inhumane way to deal with poverty, which was rampant at the time. Candide is Voltaire s satirical adventure novel that has the incompetent titular character travel the globe to regain his beautiful love. Satire then expands and incorporates more modern people and popular events. It has even grown to incorporate the satirization of deep philosophies and organizations with Catch 22 by Joseph Heller, or Cat s Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut. Catch 22 is the dark comedy that looks at the autonomous and heartless bureaucracy that our government and army have become. Cat s Cradle is a dark look at hope, and how we as people may lie to ourselves and others, in order to enjoy hope. Satire is an art that has expanded over time, from the early satires to the ... Comparing both the US and UK constitution, there are some very obvious differences. For example, the US has a written constitution whereas the UK has constitutional provisions scattered across various statutes . The UK constitution has a lack of separation compared to the US however, this operates under a presidential power but it is still appreciated that the UK present some separation between the three bodies that operate the country. So what are the major institutions and what do they aim to achieve? The legislature is Parliament, the supreme law making body and democratic leaders of the UK. The legislature reign sovereign over the UK as they are not bound by successors nor predecessors and have full control with regards to the creation of statute and the repeal of statutes in existence. This is driven by the belief that employees are different and need to be managed as individuals rather than a one size fits all approach as had been in the past. Every individual has different aspirations, potential, needs and growth expectations; and it falls on the employers of today to acknowledge that and make that change over to their human resource management practices. In this day in age we see a lot of hatred towards foreigners, in particular, terrorists. In the beginning of the movie you see Blomkamp interviewing the humans about the prawns. They show a great level of hatred and disgust for the prawns intruding on their town. In the real world, we see this same form of hatred or disgust from certain people about the immigrants and refugees intruding on and taking over many American s jobs. Blomkamp wants to push the issue that there is great hatred throughout the world today. The main reason he produced the film in Johannesburg was because there were high tensions between native south Africans and Zimbabwean refugees. He wanted to try to make the town he grew up in great again. Blomkamp wanted to open people s eyes with the use of science fiction to show that in some ways we treat other humans like the humans treated the prawns. • 23. The Ones Who Walk Away From House Of By Ursula K. Le Guin If the hypothesis were offered to us of a world in which Messrs. Fourier s and Bellamy s and Morris s utopias should all be outdone, and millions kept permanently happy on the one simple condition that a certain lost soul on the far off edge of things should lead a life of lonely torture, what except a specific and independent sort of emotion can it be which would make us immediately feel, even though an impulse arose within us to clutch at the happinessso offered, how hideous a thing would be its enjoyment when deliberately accepted as the fruit of such a bargain ? The quote above is from an American philosopher William James, who largely inspired the story The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas written by Ursula K. Le Guin . Ursula ... Whether they hold their children tighter, chose not to think about the youth, or are not bothered by it, most of them just live with it. This story was published in the year 1973; and looking at the history of what was going on in America at that time, it is impossible to say that Ursula s writing wasn t affected by the events occurring in that time period. The first wave feminist movement was prominent during the time, just as the Vietnam war was still being fought, as well as many technological and scientific changes occurring in the world. My argument is that Ursula wrote this story to combat the utilitarian mindset that is found is so many, especially during the 1960s 1970s, and still today. The mindset that these people in Omelas believe, that as long as it benefits the majority then harming one is not wrong. The lesson in this story while being written in the 1970s is still highly relevant today, when bringing in modern day politics and the top 10% vs the 90% in America. The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas is a cautionary story, that goes deep into the psyche of scapegoating and human morals. The first peer reviewed article I found is written by Jefferson Flanders. By choosing exile, they have tacitly accepted the continued depravity of the child s imprisonment. They have walked away. I agree with his statement. • 24. The Good Life Of Andrew Carnegie Human nature dictates the necessity of being successful and happy, and to find internal contentment, but what truly defines the good life? Everyone makes decisions about the person they want to be and what is most important to them: Which do you value more, your wealth or your friendships? Do you want to be famous or truly loved? Do you care what people think or are you just trying to please yourself? I think the good life is a combination of everything, and is a fine line that everyone must walk if they want to be truly content. Some people consider freedom the meaning of the good life. Thoreau teaches that the good life is freedom from desire. To have a good life people must be free to make their own choices and mistakes. However, other people have a different opinion about the good life Andrew Carnegie believes people can find the good life through success and wealth. Yet still, others want neither of these, choosing instead to stay innocent with no responsibilities like Adam and Eve, free from decisions and the stresses of everyday life. Another view is Freud s Pleasure Principle that suggests people are interested only in fun and doing whatever they want all the time. Moreover, these people don t want to worry about anything else. I believe the definition of a good life can be described in three simple words, freedom, love, and happiness. Freedom: we should be able to choose where we live, work and what we do with our lives. Love: everyone should know what it feels ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examples include: Shriner s hospitals, free clinics, and providers who do pro bono work. All medication purchases using FSAs or HSAs will require a prescription.1,2 Those expensive over the counter medications will now be out of pocket expenses for every American, even if they planned in advance with a HSA or FSA to cover the costs. Anyone who receives $600 or more in compensation from a business will be required to receive a 1099 from that business at the end of the year. This ruling has been predicted to be so burdensome to American small businesses that even Obama has vowed to sign legislation to repeal it. Currently, the bill is gridlocked in Congress. Under the PPAC, the employer mandate will allow employers to receive monthly reports on subsidized employees. This has potential liability implications. Revealing personal finances to employers exposes individuals personal information and could increase employers liability.1 A business with the employer mandate in place and coverage for a household may see the government tack on penalties in such instances as an employee s spouse loses a job, or an elderly relative moves in. There is the possibility that the employers will have to pay a penalty without knowing the full details, unless challenged and given permission by a government agency.1 Finally, under the employer mandate, PPACA forces businesses to make decisions ... This insightful quote, written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, relates to the story of The Lord of the Flies greatly. A person s true color shines through when put in a place of freedom. The story, by William Golding, is about a group of boys stranded on an island during the war. They fight to survive and their morals change a lot in the process; both physically and mentally. The ways their appearances change was parallel to the ways their behaviors change, including their filth and metaphorical filth, their painted faces and sense of community, and their ways of dress compared to their rebellious actions. The way the filth grew on the boys was parallel to the way their behaviors increased in filth . As time went on, the filth slowly built up on their skin and in their hair They were slowly covered in grease and dirt. Their behaviors grew in a similar manner; the boys soon grew to make poor decisions and act very aggressively. The newly found filth and behavior was accepted among the group as their time on the island increased. Their filth was a normal part of their lives and everyone was okay with it. Ralph was running from the other boys and hiding in the woods, His hair was full of dirt and tapped like the tendrils of a creeper (Golding 235). You may have not known but the beginning of the Middle Ages (5th to 15th century) is marked when the Western Roman Empire is invaded (1000 B.C) by the Germanic barbarians who were from Northern Europe ( Middle Ages ). The Germanic people specifically the Goths, Vandals, Saxons and Franks adapted most of the Romans ideas and ways of living and combined it with their own creating a new medieval culture in Western Rome. The Huns started to invade the territory north of the Black Sea which was where the Germanic People had settled. ( Middle Ages ). This led to the invasion of Western Rome which then led to the fall of the Western Empire who had lost almost all their power to be able to defend themselves. During the Middle Ages Catholic churches specifically the Popes were the ones who ruled much of the society as there was not one government that untied all the people in Western Rome during the Middle Ages ( Christianity In The Middle Ages. ).
