The Dictatorial Prospero of Shakespeare s The Tempest Essay
The Dictatorial Prospero of The Tempest
Motivation often propels people to achieve high goals. Sometimes, however, motivation is too strong
a tool and can manifest into selfish desires. The exploitation of the weak invariably results from the
strong abusing their power, especially in a political setting. In William Shakespeare s The Tempest ,
Prospero is displayed as a tyrannical character who spawns a disastrous storm as part of a grand
scheme to regain his title of Duke of Milan. His subsequent treatment of each character in the play,
even his beloved daughter are purely based on his self centered motives. Prospero can be seen as an
overbearing racist, as well as a usurper to land that does not belong to him, but rather to ... Show more

To the more sympathetic view it can be seen that these questions are not from a controlling point of
view, but paranoia regarding how his daughter perceives the conversation. However, after his long
speech, he then uses his magic to control her into lulling her into a sleep when he is done talking to
her. Is this the action of a loving or a controlling father, a question which individually you can answer
differently.
Even Miranda s romantic affairs are not free from her father s meddling and controlling. Prospero
admits, It goes on [Ferdinand and Miranda s amorous glances], I see, as my soul prompts it (1.2.422
424). Even though he has created this love affair through his magic, he plays with both Ferdinand s
and Miranda s emotions by enslaving Ferdinand to menial work while the rest of his evil demise is
carried out. Driven only by selfish motives, Prospero is not concerned with his daughter s state of well
being but how she can be used as a pawn within his games. As the play progresses Prospero gives his
daughter away in marriage to Ferdinand without even consulting first with her. His selfish motives
become more apparent when he extensively warns Ferdinand against pre marital sex. Prospero view
upon Miranda s virginity is that it is a prize for him to give away. Without her virginity, she would not
be a valuable asset to him, which is why Prospero calls upon the help of the three goddesses

Unique Jargon Of Our Chosen Profession. What Was To Follow
unique jargon of our chosen profession. What was to follow was an application of that which we had
just survived.
The fourth quarter at Keystone was devoted to a number of separate pursuits. The first order of
business was the final course of the year, an eclectic undertaking known as Clinical Medicine. The
second item on the agenda was preparation for Part I of the National Boards.
Clinical Medicine was an overture of what was to follow for the next two years. It was an introduction
to the various clinical clerkships, as well as the one and only course in medical school that concerned
itself with such skills as taking a medical history, examining a patient, and applying the knowledge
that had been gained over the past two years to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Interestingly, Keystone was one of the medical colleges that minimized the value of the National
Boards. In fact, professors in virtually every course mentioned there would be certain material on the
boards they didn t feel was important enough to present in their lectures. In spite of the institution s
obvious disregard for the National Boards, passing Parts I and II of the exam was still considered a
prerequisite for graduation from Keystone.
To the trained observer, there are certain signs on a medical school campus that can be used to tell the
time of year. For example, the appearance of frantic students who smell like cadavers indicates the
season is fall. A truly astute observer can even tell if it is early, mid, or late fall by how frantic the
student seems and how powerfully the essence of cadaver fills the air.
In the same manner, the trained observer knows it is spring by the sudden blossoming of a new class
of second year medical students, who bedecked in the short white coats that are the trademark of the
upper year medical student, can be seen trying to figure out how to open their new black medical bags.
In a sense, wearing our new white coats for the first time, even if it was only to make sure Seymour
and Ira got the sizes right, was more awkward than any of our previous experiences in medical school.
So too was filling up our black bags with the new medical

Sexual Assault And Sexual Harassment
Women in combat is a sensitive topic throughout the Armed Forces. Although in January 2013 the
Military made the decision to end the ban on women in combat, many still oppose this decision. Many
Combat jobs have very strict requirements, such as physical abilities. There are many concerns of
women being able to fulfill these types of requirements. Another big concern is the risk of sexual
assault and sexual harassment, many people feel that women in combat jobs are at a higher risk of
being subjected to these types of things. The safety of our soldiers whether male or female is a big
concern for everybody, no matter their position on this particular topic. Women are thought to be
sensitive creatures, the worry of their sensitive nature in a combat zone might hinder the mission.
Completing the mission is and will always be a major requirement. If a question of mental and
physical ability can be proven to complete the job requirements, should this still be an issue? The
possibilities of sexual harassment and assault are very serious. Unfortunately, this is an issue whether
in the military or not. Sexual crimes happening in college are a serious issue, as a society we cannot
tell women not to go to college because there is a greater possibility of being sexually assaulted or
harassed. If a person has all credentials, and qualifications to perform a job, they should be allowed to
regardless of gender, and safety concerns should enforce preventive measures so that all

Drunk Driving Accidents Under The Influence While Driving
Drunk driving accidents happen everyday, close to 16,000 times a year, as the author of Drunk
Driving: Using Alcohol or Drugs while Driving states. People need to be aware of the dangers of
being under the influence while driving. There is a reason it is called, under the influence. Alcohol and
Drugs impair your judgment and motor skills.
Your blood takes chemicals straight to your brain and the more you take in the more troubles you will
have. When driving a vehicle you need 100% attentiveness and awareness. Not only will you cause
accidents that you could be hurt in but there will be victims of your drunk driving. Even common
drugs when taken heavily can have similar effects. Drunk Driving refers to a whole lot more than
alcohol. However

Essay on American Philosophy
American Philosophy
In all its forms, American philosophy emphasizes freedom and the supreme importance of the
individual. Indeed, an examination of four major American writers shows these concepts in all four
main schools of American thought Epicureanism, Transcendentalism, Pragmatism, and Protestantism.
Epicureanism is the pursuit of pleasure in order to avoid pain. This philosophy is very American. One
of the most famous American Epicureans is Walt Whitman. Whitman is, perhaps, America s greatest
poet. He was an ardent supporter of freedom and democracy. His poetry not only reflected his love
and respect for America, but also the importance and the needs of the individual. Whitman s love for
America stems from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of Whitman s poems contain graphic sex scenes. By describing his own feelings, Whitman
hoped to encourage other Americans to pursue their own feelings in a country that allowed it.
Transcendentalism is another American philosophy that also deals heavily with the individual.
Transcendentalists believed formalized society oppressed the individual. Thus, they strove to create a
doctrine that stressed the importance of the individual. Ralph Waldo Emerson suggested this idea in
his book Nature. Emerson maintains that man is one with Nature and Nature is one with God,
therefore giving the ordinary individual validity and worth. These two qualities are attributes that
every American is familiar with and has a desire for. Another Transcendental concept is the phrase
Trust Thyself. Transcendentalists believed that human nature is essentially good; thus, an individual
should rely on his or her intuition. This concept may be the reason for Americans hating to admit that
they are wrong. Pragmatism is also a philosophy that is deeply embedded in American culture.
Pragmatism is a doctrine which tests truth by its practical consequences. William James was the most
influential American pragmatic philosopher. James used pragmatism to solve the problems that
interfered with the individuals feeling at home in the universe. James concluded that philosophy was
only useful if one could use it to better his or her life. Americans today think the

They handle the media, internal company meetings, and several other related meetings. Third, set up a
notification system (Bernstein, J., 2016). Fourth, one must have a holding statement available

are aware of the issue. Know your internal and external stakeholders. After the crisis happened, one
must assess the situation, create messages to be sent to the stakeholders informing them on what they
need to know (Bernstein, J., 2016). The final step is performing a post crisis analysis (Bernstein, J.,
2016).
How a Leader Should React to a Crisis A good leader should hold a meeting to figure out what went
wrong and calm everyone down (Baldoni, J., 2011). Then, the leader needs to act within a reasonable
amount of time (Baldoni, J., 2011). The leader must address the crisis and how it will affect the
company (Baldoni, J., 2011). Leader are there to control the response (Baldoni, J., 2011). Always keep
one s composure in control (Baldoni, J., 2011).
II. Communication Styles
Internal Stakeholders Internal stakeholders are those who are directly related to company like
employees (Markwell, S. Leigh Hunt, N., 2016). Preparation for a crisis is important in dealing with
one. A good way for leaders to prepare their employees is to have small work groups (Klann, G.
2003). This will encourage those who are shy to speak up

The Colossus and Daddy by Sylvia Plath
Sylvia Plath is one of the greatest poets of all time the queen of confessional poetry. Her writing is
thick with figurative language that cannot be interpreted only one way. Sylvia Plath herself was
complicated, and she struggled with her own personal hardships up until the day she took her own life.
Plath s father passed when she was only eight, and she struggled with his absence not only though the
rest of her childhood but also into adult hood. Many critics believe her famous poems, such as The
Colossus and Daddy, were confessional poems Sylvia wrote about her father. Although there are many
ties within her poetry to her real father, her writing cannot only be interpreted this way. Sylvia had
many demons she likely tried to tackle or even understand through her writing her pain channeling
through the speaker. The Colossus, a poem widely believed to stem from her own experiences with
death and depression, is a beautiful poem rich with imagery that exposes the pain of living forever in
the shadows. The literal definition of colossus means large statue. A colossus can be a statue that
represents a deceased person. The Colossus of Rhodes, one of the seven ancient wonders of the world,
was so grand in size it was considered one of the tallest statues during that time. The speaker of Sylvia
s poem tries to put together a man, whether it be her father or not, to understand him. She considers
him a monument, a colossus, an ancient wonder of the world that holds power

The Constitutionality Of Capital Punishment
A major discussion and legal issue that has been the topic of major debates across the world is the
legality of Capital Punishment. Capital Punishment, also known as the death penalty, is defined as the
legally authorized killing of someone as a punishment for committing a crime (Oxford, n.d.). The
issue has been undecided by the federal government, which gives the states the right to determine their
own laws on the issue. Some states have outlawed the death penalty while others still use this practice
to this day. In the state of Maryland the death penalty was used for hundreds of years before it was
recently outlawed in a bill passed by the state legislature. The passing of the Capital Punishment
Repeal in the state of Maryland was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Eighth Amendment, there is a section called the Cruel and Unusual Punishment Clause. This
states that the punishment for a crime can t be inhumane and it must be fitting to the crime. For
example, you can t put someone to death for stealing an apple. Because of this Amendment the death
penalty is heavily debated as a fitting and humane way of dealing with capital crimes.
Pro Capital Punishment People who support Capital punishment in the State of Maryland were not
happy about its repeal in 2013. Some delegates were not in favor of the repeal and voted against it.
Some of them believed that we should not completely abolish the death penalty because there are
extreme cases that could call for it. Delegate Smigiel said I have grave concerns about the state having
the power of life and death over other people, but there are circumstances where that s the only
penalty that s appropriate for a crime (Dresser, 2013). They believe that we should still keep it in place
for extreme situations such as the Boston Marathon Massacre, and the killing of correctional officers.
While the people who are advocates for the death penalty did not like the ruling, they had the
opportunity to sign petitions in order to stop the passing of the repeal bill. But they did not reach the
number of signatures needed to stop the bill. This shows that they did not have enough support to say
that they did not

Examples Of Hypocritical Characters In Hamlet
Nobody likes a hypocrite. People who say one thing and do another can never be trusted. In Hamlet, a
tragedy written by William Shakespeare, there are shady, hypocritical interactions with characters.
Many characters have sneaky qualities that go against their roles in the play. Hamlet is proven to be
one of the most complicated and hypocritical characters through his individual qualities, his
interactions with the queen and his aspirations to murder.
Hamlet has many contrasting qualities. He acts rashly at times, and other times over thinks his actions.
Often he acts wild and uncivil, while other times he acts like the prince he is supposed to be. From the
time he is introduced to the play, he is puzzling and a curious character to try to ... Show more content

When King Hamlet is murdered, Hamlet is so full of consuming anger and wants to avenge his father
s wrongful death. Although the Queen says, Thou know st tis common, all that lives must die/Passing
through nature to eternity (1.2.71 2), Hamlet does not find that comforting. He remembers the loving
and tenderness his father showed towards his mother. This tortures Hamlet and pains him to see his
mother so unaffected by her husband s death. Hamlet has just begun to express his feelings to his
mother about her marriage and her intimate relations with Claudius, which he considers disgusting,
adulterous, incestuous, and wicked. It is impossible for him to add any additional feelings to those
which have already driven him half mad. (Delaney, 2012). His father, the ghost, tells Hamlet to leave
his mother out of it and let heaven decide her fate. But, howsoever thou pursuest this act, Taint not thy
mind, nor let thy soul contrive, Against thy mother aught: leave her to heaven, And to those thorns that
in her bosom lodge, To prick and sting her. (1.5.9). He loves his father and wants to respect his wishes,

The Evacuation At Dunkirk Essay
Do you agree with this interpretation of Dunkirk? In this essay, I am going to explain a painting of
Dunkirk, which was painted by a British painter in 1940. The artist, who painted the picture, was
called Charles Cundall. He was sent by the British government to paint a picture about The
Evacuation at Dunkirk. His main aim for painting this picture was to make Germany look bad and
Britain look good. Therefore he had a reason to paint the picture as he was British himself. By looking
at the picture I predict that he would not have been sitting in the battle field whilst the war is going of
as we would have been exploded to pieces. He could have painted the picture from what he would
have remembered whilst this battle was going on. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The little ships in the picture are accurate as many on the ships would be fleeing from the shore into
open sea water. We can see many bombs in the picture being fired out at sea. This is an element of
reason that is needed to show the public that bombs were used by the Germans to try and stop the
British from escaping. Big boats are also seen fleeing alongside the small boats. We see the big boat
which is leaving the shore, of Dunkirk. There are many in accurate points about the sea. The big boats
are shown too close to the shore. This would be in accurate as when the big boats were to move they
would get stuck due to the sand of the shore. We can see the water at Dunkirk is very shallow, which
would mean that boats would have to be at least miles away from shore in order for them to move.
The artist Charles Cundall painted this on purpose to show British people, how the Germans stopped
boats from being fled out to sea. This again would be propaganda as it shows British public how bad
the Germans really are. The ships out at sea would at least have been sunk where as in the picture we
see only one small ship being sunk. In reality three or four ship would have been sunk as soldiers were
stopped from fleeing. The last part of the picture I am going to analyse is the sky. Again there are
some accurate and in accurate parts about the sky. Some

One reason this is that men work as long as they possibly can. If men keep working while the women
retire, we as a society will think that men are still young because they keep working. As for women,
we think they will be decrepit since they would rather retire at an earlier age. Not only do men appear
to be decrepit at a later age, but they also seem more attractive at an older age than women. This could
be that women tend to obtain more wrinkles than men women touch their face more than men because
of applying makeup. Women care a lot more about their face than men do. This is why men appear to
be older at a later age. While both men and women have equal rates of developing Alzheimer s

shown, men have more brain atrophy than women do. As people age, they tend to lose brain cells. The

Sylvia Earle, Explorer for National Geographic
Sylvia Earle was born on August 30, 1935 in Gibbstown, New Jersey. She was raised by her parents
on a small farm near Camden. When Sylvia was younger she enjoyed exploring the woods that was
nearby her home. She was very fascinated with the creatures and plants that lived in the wild. Sylvia s
parents loved nature as much as Sylvia does. They taught her to respect the creatures of the wildlife
and that she shouldn t be afraid of the unknown. When Sylvia was thirteen, she moved to Florida,
which is on the Gulf of Mexico. Soon Sylvia became very interested learning about the wildlife in the

Comparing Obasan And Naomi s Road
The Differences Between Adults and Children Life is so short, the past so long. Shouldn t we turn the
page and move on? Those are the fascinating words from the famous Canadian writer Joy Kogawa.
Growing up during World War II, surrounded by the Japanese Canadian internment, her life as a little
girl was not the easiest. Her past during that same time period is seen in her two works titled Obasan
and Naomi s Road. Obasan is from the perspective of adult Naomi Nakane whose story is told through
flashbacks and items she comes across. The second work, Naomi s Road, is centered around young
Naomi as she faces the world of discrimination by her country and citizens around her who are in the
name of national security. Both books together express the influence on her life from childhood
journey and the difficultness she experienced while aging. These two books portray the same message,
yet in different methods due to the type of audience Kogawa identifies in each. Obasan is written for
adults, yet Naomi s Road is written for children. Joy Kogawa acknowledges the differences upon
adults and children through the use of her two major works. One of the first topics Kogawa

which was relevant socially because of the issue of racism that was being addressed, and had been an
issue for a long time. Although the book didn t mention much about his personal life, as a black man it
is obvious why he would want to create a song that addresses racism towards blacks. The Message
takes the approach of describing the awful treatment that people living in the ghettos were receiving,
which was particularly relevant to the artists who created the song, like Ed Fletcher as I just
mentioned, because they were all blacks who had likely experienced this situation. The lyrics used in
the song, such as Got no money to move out, I guess I got no choice, Rats in the front room, roaches
in the back, Junkies in the alley with a baseball bat aid in connecting with the listener s sympathy for
those who experience this, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This song talks about someone coming home from the war who wasn t treated very well. They lyrics
are very straightforward, depicting a story through words such as, Got in a little hometown jam, so
they put a rifle in my hand; Sent me off to a foreign land to go and kill the yellow man (Google). What
s particularly ironic about this is that a lot of people thought that the song was very patriotic, even
though it s lyrics clearly state the opposite. One reason the book suggested this might have been so
was because people might not have even been listening to the lyrics, hence weakening the impact of
his message. One reason why Springsteen might have created this song was because although he didn
t have this experience himself, a lot of people his age had come home from the war not long before

Professionalism Of The Business Industry
The purpose of this research is to educate or inform people, who are working or about to work in the
field of business, about professionalism in the business industry because it is extremely complex and
important. Besides from wearing proper attire or having higher education, many set standard of
procedures must be abided by to be recognized as professional (Beaton, 2010; Granowski, 2012). As
Granowski and Beaton suggests or implies, professionalism is not easy to acquire because it exists for
the purpose of satisfying the customers, who are individuals with various and unique personalities.
The goal of business is to make profit. As long as customers desire and expect professional service,
business must be able to provide that.
Professionalism validates quality of business, and thus results in desired future business endeavors. In
this regard, Beaton (2010) provides an appropriate example which illustrates doctors. He states that
doctors are expected to be safe and bring positive outcome by their patients because they hold and
exhibit their degree, wear proper uniform, maintain overall hygiene, and use educated and
sophisticated words that lead patients to completely believe that doctors will even sacrifice themselves
to help patients. No one wants to be frauded, and professionalism is like antibiotic that kills that worry
of possibly being frauded. Beaton s example undoubtedly depicts that professionalism ensures that
business is trustworthy, and ultimately, will

The Effects Of Multiple Choice Testing On The Individual...
In educational settings, ....
Multiple choice responses provide the student with several relatable responses, one being correct.
Students then have 25% chance of selecting the right response, along with the ability to narrow down
the answers. Providing the answer and other comparably subjected answers presented with the
question may stimulate the individual s memory as well.
In terms of short answer responses, the individual is forced to recall all components of the experiment.
Conversely, in true/false responses, students have a 50% chance of getting the image correct and are
able to make a more direct decision. We predict that true and false responses will yield a higher result
than short answer or multiple choice results.
The Power of Negative of Multiple Choice Testing, performed by Roediger III and Marsh, they found
that learning was interfered by using multiple choice format. Also having the test be multiple choice
format, exposes students to inaccurate responses, which could be interpreted as correct in future
applications, or false knowledge. It was concluded that the more alternatives provided for the multiple
choice questions, the worse the students performed. In relation to our experiment, we presented the
standard, four choice responses.

Pros And Cons Of Stricter Gun Control In The Modern United...
On the night of October 1, 2017, a gunman named Stephen Paddock, opened fired on a crowd of
people that were attending the Harvest Music Festival on the Las Vegas Strip. Within 10 minutes, the
64 year old fired hundreds of rifle rounds from his suite on the 38th floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel

arrived on the scene about an hour later, Paddock was found dead from a self inflicted gun shot
wound. The motive of the attack is still unknown. This is the deadliest mass shooting committed by a
single person in modern United States history. Countless other incidents have occurred in the past 20
years that have made the American population question the leaders of this country for the gun control
policies put in place. It also allowed for questioning of the meaning and interpretation of the Second
Amendment. There is an extreme division between American people when it comes to gun control
laws. The argument over whether stricter gun laws will never to seize to exist so long as there is still
crime that is committed using firearms. The support from both sides of the argument are exceedingly
strong. The side that is in favor of stricter gun control laws argue that with more laws implemented,
the needless loss of life can be prevented. They believe there should be stricter laws on who can own a

John Stanoch On Net Neutrality
Some Millennials believe that net neutrality is needed because net neutrality allows equal access to all
content for everyone. Accordingly, John Stanoch, president of Qwest Minnesota, said he s surprised
that net neutrality has become such a hot topic, but he said those who warn about diminished Web
access are advancing a bogus issue. We re not going to limit anybody s access to the Internet, Stanoch
said (Reinan). The President, John Stanoch, isn t going to limit people s access to the internet and

Stages Of Grief
Sooner or later, everyone will experience loss; it s an inevitable part of life. Whether it s losing a
relationship, a job, or even more tragic a loved one, no one can escape it. A very important part of
bearing with a loss is grieving. There are five stages in which grief can be categorized in: denial,
anger, bargaining, depression, and finally acceptance. In Seamus Heaney s Mid term Break , and the
narrator and his family bear with the loss of a loved one. In Sylvia Path s The Jailer the narrator goes
through the painful and significant loss of her marriage. In both poems the characters affected by the

The narrator starts his grieving path in denial. The narrator states I sat all morning in the college sick
bay giving the description of him sitting all morning in doing nothing at all (line 1). He was not
crying, he was not talking to anyone he just sat there staring into the air. Another detail that shows that
the narrator is in denial is when he states the ambulance arrived / with the corpse (14 15). It is a very
cold thing to say because it s his little brother in the ambulance not just a strange, and he just refers to
him as a corpse. Further explaining that he is in denial because he cannot believe it s his brother. The
father in the poem is one of the best examples of how everyone deals with grief in a different way. The
narrator explains that as soon as he got home he saw his father in tears and how strange it was for his
father to cry especially in funerals. The narrator then states, [My father] had always taken funerals in
his stride meaning that funerals never really bothered his father (5). The way the narrator s mother
reacts to the death of her four year old son, further supports the fact that everyone grieves differently.
When the narrator introduces his mother in the poem he states, [She] coughed out angry tearless sighs
(13). In the contrary from the narrator s father, the narrator s mother is not even shedding a tear.
Which makes it very obvious that her first step in grieving was

Bumpy Dirt Road Analysis
I dream of bumpy dirt roads and spontaneous, unpredictable adventures that keep my heart always
wanting more. I dream of freedom and play, a nine to five job never being my forte. I dream of small
towns and big cities that leave my soul searching for more, saying this could be what I m looking for. I
dream of breaking free to let myself be. So at night, when I dream of bumpy dirt roads, maybe
someday the end of that same dirt road in my dreams will lead me to what I ve been searching for all
along: the incomparable and unfamiliar roads that will lead me to my own freedom. For now, I ll let
my soul wander and dream, even if right now I m not where I want to be. I may have some things to
take care of before I start on my journey throughout life, but that s the beauty of it. Maybe life isn t
about arriving to your destination, but the journey that it takes to get there. I know where I want to be
and what I want to be doing, but how I get there? Well, I have absolutely no idea. Because freedom is
beautiful, and having plans and outlines for everything you do, what s the beauty in that? When I think
of freedom I think of split second decisions and big city visions. Life is about experiences and places,

Ecocide In Aranyak-Of The Forest-An Ecocide
Aranyak Of the Forest An Ecocide: The term ecocide refers to extensive damage done to the
ecosystem of a territory due to human atrocities or to such an extent that the normal living of the
inhabitants is severely disturbed ( Ecosophy Wikipedia , 2017). Human nature is essentially
anthropocentric which assumes the primacy of man over other organisms in the environment. We are
committing ecocide by deforestation of a land, burning fossil fuel, emitting green house gases from
the industrial hubs, by exploiting natural ecocritical understanding of Aranyak Of the Forest (1976) in
the light of ecocide. Ecocriticism is best exhibited in Aranyak Of the Forest where the protagonist
Satyacharan, a city dweller gets hypnotized by nature. Initially urban lifestyle revolted against the
loneliness of the forest. He has been sent to the forest as an estate manager to clear up a forest land of
30 thousand bighas. But as the novel progresses he fell madly in love with nature. The novel is told in
the manner of a reverie which ever haunts his imagination. It is a good example of an ecocide. The

The Strengths And Weaknesses Of Autism
Individuals with autism are often described in terms of the impairments, challenges and difficulties
that affect them. When people hear the word autism , most of them automatically think of impaired

think of sensory issues, echolalia, narrow range of interests and the lack of empathy, as well as weak
central coherence and impairment of the theory of mind. The list can go on. The fact is, that one will
almost certainly think of challenges and deficits rather than strengths when the word autism is
mentioned. The purpose of this essay is not to try and prove that the strengths of autism outweigh the
challenges that would simply be untrue. The purpose of this essay is to focus on the strengths, rather

Persuasive Essay On Nuclear Energy
In today s America, fossil fuels continue to be the top producers of energy across the nation.
Renewable energies, however, are starting to become cheaper, more efficient, and more practical as
the need to fight climate change becomes a greater issue everyday. Renewable energies such as solar,
hydropower, and wind are making an expeditious growth in the United States. One of the largest
producers of renewable energy in the United States is Nuclear Power, which is the largest producer out
of the aforementioned renewable energies. It continues to be a safe, cheap, and viable option for
energy production, yet public opinion causes it to be less favorable to wind, solar, and others due to
perceived risks. On March 11th of 2011, an earthquake and tsunami in Japan caused the Fukushima
power plant to meltdown and release dangerous radiation into the environment and completely destroy
the plant. Before this incident, public support for nuclear under Barack Obama, who was advocating
increased production for nuclear power as it s a clean energy, was at 71%.1 The most recent nuclear
meltdown was the Three Mile Island incident in 1979, located in Harrisburg Pennsylvania, which was
becoming a fading memory in the public s mind. 2 In the aftermath of the Fukushima plant meltdown,
the world became increasingly anxious about nuclear energy. Nonetheless, even with the renewed
fears of nuclear power, production of new plants would continue in East Asia, India and the Middle

  • 2. The Dictatorial Prospero of Shakespeare s The Tempest Essay The Dictatorial Prospero of The Tempest Motivation often propels people to achieve high goals. Sometimes, however, motivation is too strong a tool and can manifest into selfish desires. The exploitation of the weak invariably results from the strong abusing their power, especially in a political setting. In William Shakespeare s The Tempest , Prospero is displayed as a tyrannical character who spawns a disastrous storm as part of a grand scheme to regain his title of Duke of Milan. His subsequent treatment of each character in the play, even his beloved daughter are purely based on his self centered motives. Prospero can be seen as an overbearing racist, as well as a usurper to land that does not belong to him, but rather to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To the more sympathetic view it can be seen that these questions are not from a controlling point of view, but paranoia regarding how his daughter perceives the conversation. However, after his long speech, he then uses his magic to control her into lulling her into a sleep when he is done talking to her. Is this the action of a loving or a controlling father, a question which individually you can answer differently. Even Miranda s romantic affairs are not free from her father s meddling and controlling. Prospero admits, It goes on [Ferdinand and Miranda s amorous glances], I see, as my soul prompts it (1.2.422 424). Even though he has created this love affair through his magic, he plays with both Ferdinand s and Miranda s emotions by enslaving Ferdinand to menial work while the rest of his evil demise is carried out. Driven only by selfish motives, Prospero is not concerned with his daughter s state of well being but how she can be used as a pawn within his games. As the play progresses Prospero gives his daughter away in marriage to Ferdinand without even consulting first with her. His selfish motives become more apparent when he extensively warns Ferdinand against pre marital sex. Prospero view upon Miranda s virginity is that it is a prize for him to give away. Without her virginity, she would not be a valuable asset to him, which is why Prospero calls upon the help of the three goddesses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Unique Jargon Of Our Chosen Profession. What Was To Follow unique jargon of our chosen profession. What was to follow was an application of that which we had just survived. The fourth quarter at Keystone was devoted to a number of separate pursuits. The first order of business was the final course of the year, an eclectic undertaking known as Clinical Medicine. The second item on the agenda was preparation for Part I of the National Boards. Clinical Medicine was an overture of what was to follow for the next two years. It was an introduction to the various clinical clerkships, as well as the one and only course in medical school that concerned itself with such skills as taking a medical history, examining a patient, and applying the knowledge that had been gained over the past two years to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Interestingly, Keystone was one of the medical colleges that minimized the value of the National Boards. In fact, professors in virtually every course mentioned there would be certain material on the boards they didn t feel was important enough to present in their lectures. In spite of the institution s obvious disregard for the National Boards, passing Parts I and II of the exam was still considered a prerequisite for graduation from Keystone. To the trained observer, there are certain signs on a medical school campus that can be used to tell the time of year. For example, the appearance of frantic students who smell like cadavers indicates the season is fall. A truly astute observer can even tell if it is early, mid, or late fall by how frantic the student seems and how powerfully the essence of cadaver fills the air. In the same manner, the trained observer knows it is spring by the sudden blossoming of a new class of second year medical students, who bedecked in the short white coats that are the trademark of the upper year medical student, can be seen trying to figure out how to open their new black medical bags. In a sense, wearing our new white coats for the first time, even if it was only to make sure Seymour and Ira got the sizes right, was more awkward than any of our previous experiences in medical school. So too was filling up our black bags with the new medical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Sexual Assault And Sexual Harassment Women in combat is a sensitive topic throughout the Armed Forces. Although in January 2013 the Military made the decision to end the ban on women in combat, many still oppose this decision. Many Combat jobs have very strict requirements, such as physical abilities. There are many concerns of women being able to fulfill these types of requirements. Another big concern is the risk of sexual assault and sexual harassment, many people feel that women in combat jobs are at a higher risk of being subjected to these types of things. The safety of our soldiers whether male or female is a big concern for everybody, no matter their position on this particular topic. Women are thought to be sensitive creatures, the worry of their sensitive nature in a combat zone might hinder the mission. Completing the mission is and will always be a major requirement. If a question of mental and physical ability can be proven to complete the job requirements, should this still be an issue? The possibilities of sexual harassment and assault are very serious. Unfortunately, this is an issue whether in the military or not. Sexual crimes happening in college are a serious issue, as a society we cannot tell women not to go to college because there is a greater possibility of being sexually assaulted or harassed. If a person has all credentials, and qualifications to perform a job, they should be allowed to regardless of gender, and safety concerns should enforce preventive measures so that all ... Drunk Driving Accidents Under The Influence While Driving Drunk driving accidents happen everyday, close to 16,000 times a year, as the author of Drunk Driving: Using Alcohol or Drugs while Driving states. People need to be aware of the dangers of being under the influence while driving. There is a reason it is called, under the influence. Alcohol and Drugs impair your judgment and motor skills. Your blood takes chemicals straight to your brain and the more you take in the more troubles you will have. When driving a vehicle you need 100% attentiveness and awareness. Not only will you cause accidents that you could be hurt in but there will be victims of your drunk driving. Even common drugs when taken heavily can have similar effects. • 6. Essay on American Philosophy American Philosophy In all its forms, American philosophy emphasizes freedom and the supreme importance of the individual. Indeed, an examination of four major American writers shows these concepts in all four main schools of American thought Epicureanism, Transcendentalism, Pragmatism, and Protestantism. Epicureanism is the pursuit of pleasure in order to avoid pain. This philosophy is very American. One of the most famous American Epicureans is Walt Whitman. Whitman is, perhaps, America s greatest poet. He was an ardent supporter of freedom and democracy. His poetry not only reflected his love and respect for America, but also the importance and the needs of the individual. Whitman s love for America stems from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of Whitman s poems contain graphic sex scenes. By describing his own feelings, Whitman hoped to encourage other Americans to pursue their own feelings in a country that allowed it. Transcendentalism is another American philosophy that also deals heavily with the individual. Transcendentalists believed formalized society oppressed the individual. Thus, they strove to create a doctrine that stressed the importance of the individual. Ralph Waldo Emerson suggested this idea in his book Nature. Emerson maintains that man is one with Nature and Nature is one with God, therefore giving the ordinary individual validity and worth. These two qualities are attributes that every American is familiar with and has a desire for. Another Transcendental concept is the phrase Trust Thyself. Transcendentalists believed that human nature is essentially good; thus, an individual should rely on his or her intuition. This concept may be the reason for Americans hating to admit that they are wrong. Pragmatism is also a philosophy that is deeply embedded in American culture. Pragmatism is a doctrine which tests truth by its practical consequences. William James was the most influential American pragmatic philosopher. James used pragmatism to solve the problems that interfered with the individuals feeling at home in the universe. James concluded that philosophy was only useful if one could use it to better his or her life. Americans today think the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Colossus and Daddy by Sylvia Plath Sylvia Plath is one of the greatest poets of all time the queen of confessional poetry. Her writing is thick with figurative language that cannot be interpreted only one way. Sylvia Plath herself was complicated, and she struggled with her own personal hardships up until the day she took her own life. Plath s father passed when she was only eight, and she struggled with his absence not only though the rest of her childhood but also into adult hood. Many critics believe her famous poems, such as The Colossus and Daddy, were confessional poems Sylvia wrote about her father. Although there are many ties within her poetry to her real father, her writing cannot only be interpreted this way. Sylvia had many demons she likely tried to tackle or even understand through her writing her pain channeling through the speaker. The Colossus, a poem widely believed to stem from her own experiences with death and depression, is a beautiful poem rich with imagery that exposes the pain of living forever in the shadows. The literal definition of colossus means large statue. A colossus can be a statue that represents a deceased person. The Colossus of Rhodes, one of the seven ancient wonders of the world, was so grand in size it was considered one of the tallest statues during that time. The speaker of Sylvia s poem tries to put together a man, whether it be her father or not, to understand him. • 9. The Constitutionality Of Capital Punishment A major discussion and legal issue that has been the topic of major debates across the world is the legality of Capital Punishment. Capital Punishment, also known as the death penalty, is defined as the legally authorized killing of someone as a punishment for committing a crime (Oxford, n.d.). The issue has been undecided by the federal government, which gives the states the right to determine their own laws on the issue. Some states have outlawed the death penalty while others still use this practice to this day. In the state of Maryland the death penalty was used for hundreds of years before it was recently outlawed in a bill passed by the state legislature. In the Eighth Amendment, there is a section called the Cruel and Unusual Punishment Clause. This states that the punishment for a crime can t be inhumane and it must be fitting to the crime. For example, you can t put someone to death for stealing an apple. Because of this Amendment the death penalty is heavily debated as a fitting and humane way of dealing with capital crimes. Pro Capital Punishment People who support Capital punishment in the State of Maryland were not happy about its repeal in 2013. Some delegates were not in favor of the repeal and voted against it. Some of them believed that we should not completely abolish the death penalty because there are extreme cases that could call for it. Delegate Smigiel said I have grave concerns about the state having the power of life and death over other people, but there are circumstances where that s the only penalty that s appropriate for a crime (Dresser, 2013). They believe that we should still keep it in place for extreme situations such as the Boston Marathon Massacre, and the killing of correctional officers. While the people who are advocates for the death penalty did not like the ruling, they had the opportunity to sign petitions in order to stop the passing of the repeal bill. The artist, who painted the picture, was called Charles Cundall. He was sent by the British government to paint a picture about The Evacuation at Dunkirk. His main aim for painting this picture was to make Germany look bad and Britain look good. Therefore he had a reason to paint the picture as he was British himself. Big boats are also seen fleeing alongside the small boats. We see the big boat which is leaving the shore, of Dunkirk. There are many in accurate points about the sea. The big boats are shown too close to the shore. This would be in accurate as when the big boats were to move they would get stuck due to the sand of the shore. We can see the water at Dunkirk is very shallow, which would mean that boats would have to be at least miles away from shore in order for them to move. The artist Charles Cundall painted this on purpose to show British people, how the Germans stopped boats from being fled out to sea. This again would be propaganda as it shows British public how bad the Germans really are. The ships out at sea would at least have been sunk where as in the picture we see only one small ship being sunk.
