Research Paper On Mermaids
The ocean is explored less than five percent and ninety five percent of this realm remains
unexplored and primarily mysterious. For the most part, we clearly do not have enough data and an
indication of numerous odd occurrences beneath the ocean. Though, many people have witnessed
many peculiar creatures in the ocean. By that, I mean the Mermaids, Merman, the Loch Ness
Monster, Sea Serpents, Sirens and many more. Various people matter of factly claimed to have seen
one, but others believe that it s just a myth, or they have claimed that it was a figment of one s
imagination. Mermaids, in general, are unique and mysterious creatures and with their beguiling
personalities, fascinating history and origin. They are well known throughout several

Riku Hiroshima Bombing Effects
World War II was a very violent and hostile time for the entire world. Countries like Japan and
China were gravely affected by the catastrophes that ensued during this time, and are continuing to
grapple with its effects on a personal and institutional level. This has ultimately effected the ways in
which younger generations have come to understand this influential period in history while
teachings of the facts, representation, and recollections of World War II in the public school
systems vary, as misunderstandings and clashing of ideas still exist even almost a decade later.

She remembers learning about World War II with negative bias towards European countries, and
Japan especially, as they were told that China was attacked by Japan. Some of the messages she
remembers claimed that China s involvement in World War II was purely self defense, the
Communist Party was the key to victory, and Japan was defeated by Chinese resistance. Jie also
does not remember any of her classes or textbooks mentioning the Chinese famine that killed
millions during this era. The ultimate message of World War II lessons was that China prevented
Japan from taking over the world, in order to justify their own actions. Chinese also often scolds
Japan for not teaching an accurate history of World War II, although much of the information,
including those in Chinese textbooks, Jie has come to realize, was screened. Therefore many
events were merely ignored based on what the Chinese government deemed as too controversial.
She explains that China continues to desire global support for Japan not to be allowed to
downplay their own atrocities in textbooks and public schools, although her own country may also
be guilty of this. She also remembers learning about many facts during this time but was not
always given an explanation of why these events occurred. Jie would even ask her parents and
other families about this and about specific events and was told that

Fallacies In The Real World
In the aspect of everyday lives, the ability to process and decipher critical information is a must
in order to be successful. The benefits of having the ability to seek higher education are the
important lessons that are taught in terms of the ability to process and work through important
information and scenarios. Lessons learned through hardship or what may be perceived as a
delay lead to the character developments and shape the future and the goals of many students.
Fallacious thinking and the distortion of the mind affect student s abilities to process and
succeed in the real world only they are allowed as a distraction from their major goals; these
diversions or what may be considered distressing situations lead to lessons learned and an increase
in focus on future goals. Students will take what may be considered a mistake in logic and it will
allow them to learn from the rebuttal of others... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ability to both understand and be objective to a situation has helped me in my goal of
choosing a major after I leave this community college at the end of my junior college career by
allowing me to search with an open mind and understand the ideas that are presented with minor
biases. In conclusion, there are many reasons why students should be aware of the fallacies that
influence them in the modern, or real world , is an ability to be open to situations and use the
critical thinking skills learned from them to better yourselves for the future and the present. There
are many important fallacies and ideals, but some most prevalent ones lead to an open mind and
an understanding of both sides of the people s opinions. These are the direct results of critical
thinking in the real world and how this process is used to better a student s understanding of how

Exploring The Soul In Sir Walter Raleigh s The Lie
In Sir Walter Raleigh s The Lie , the speaker tells the soul to go upon a thankless errand and go
accuse the world of lying. The speaker states that the soul has the truth as its warrant, which gives
the soul no reason to fear telling authorities or those with power. The second stanza starts with the
speaker telling the soulto accuse the church and the court of their wrongdoings. In the third stanza,
he tells the soul what to say about the potentates, and the speaker says their greedy people only
doing favors for money. The fourth and fifth stanzas describe men of high status as greedy only
interested in advancing their own agenda. The next three stanzas have the speaker telling the soul
about human qualities, such as love, age, beauty, wisdom, and wit, of their wrongdoings. The
next four stanzas are similar, and the speaker tells the soul to accuse charity, law, nature, justice,
schools and more about how they do nothing good for society. Then, after the speaker list all the
people and virtues that need to improve, he tells the soul that it may face opposition but should not
worry since no stab thy soul can kill (Raleigh 78). The theme of this poem is that people can and
should not be afraid to change the way the corrupt social norms.
The poem starts with the speaker saying that the errand that the soul is about to embark on will
make people angry but should do his best since the truth will guide him. Almost every stanza
mentions how one institution or human virtue

Characteristics Of Drunk Driving
Drunk Driving
Although situations differ and each person is unique, some common traits have been identified
among drunk drivers. In the study personality traits and mental health of severe drunk drivers in
Sweden , 162 Swedish DUI offenders of all ages were studied to find links in psychological factors
and characteristics. There are a wide variety of characteristics common among DUI offenders which
are discussed, including: anxiety, depression, inhibition, low assertiveness, neuroticism and
introversion . There is also a more specific personality type found, typically more antisocial,
among repeat DUI offenders. It is also common for offenders to use drinking as a coping
mechanism, not necessarily for social or enjoyment reasons, when they are antisocial in nature and
have a father with a history of alcoholism. Offenders who begin drinking at an earlier age for
thrills and fun are more likely to be antisocial later in their lives. The majority of the sample,
72%, came from what is considered more normal circumstances. This group was older when they
began drinking, came from families without a history of alcoholism, were relatively well behaved
as children, were not as physically and emotionally affected by alcohol when compared with the
rest of the study, and had the less emotional complications, such as anxiety and depression. The
smaller portion of the sample, 28%, comes from what is generally

Music Industry Changes
How the internet has affected the music industry. Over the past half decade, the music industry had
changed drastically. If that s how people buy music or how people listen to music, its changed. The
music industry has been ripped apart thanks to the power of the internet. You might not think about
it when you re listening to music on repeat but after you have listened to a track you re potentially
affecting the official charts without even realising it. Downloading music illegally has increased
massively ever since the technology era has taken over the world, it s not only robbing artist of
their hard working money but also their potential sales. The internetis like a bomb that s landed onto

In the recent year, illegal downloads have been dominating the music industry not only in the
UK but worldwide. In 2015, numbers showed that a massive 62% of people in the UK either
illegally download or steam music online, this affect artist s income when it comes to illegally
downloading music as when they see how much money they have made it will be plummeting
each month. Throughout the UK many people were surveyed and results showed that, 26% of
the people surveyed downloaded music illegally online. In the USA, The Recording Industry
Association of America (also known as RIAA) reported that music sales have dropped massive
42% ever since illegal download was invented. This can affect the music industry in many ways
some may be that if illegal downloads keep rising it will make sales lower and potentially make it
harder for artists getting worldwide recognition and will make it harder for new upcoming artist
to get signed by record labels. Spotify, the world largest streaming service, could be affected by
people illegally downloading music as Spotify will end up losing money which will be used to pay
artist royalties but won t be able

Decolonial Environmental Justice Movement Analysis
The environmental movement to preserve and restore land has been something that has been
cultivated by the west and believed to be applied everywhere even where it is not applicable. It is
actually an incorrect approach to helping stop ecological degradation. In these previously colonized
nations, there has been a push for decolonal environmental justice . This approach embodies the
intersectionality of the oppression of communities of color and their land; it connects
environmental degradation and political and economic inequalities. According to Reed, movements
are now becoming more intertwined, in the context of these global movements for justice, the lines
between environmental movements and other movements have grown increasingly and... Show

Often time s social movements are started and organized by people and communities of color, but
then these movements are co opted by the white people. This is what decolonial environmental
justice tries to disrupt, this is a movement for the people, by the people. As previously stated,
colonialism has created these external barriers and division, one of those being race. Race was
created in the justification of colonialism, this driving force is a main proponent behind the
decolonial environmental justice movement, Yet much remains to be done to move beyond US
centric versions of environmentalism and to expose the racism that blinds us to the roots of
ecological devastation (39 Reed) . By critically analyzing this, one can understand the complexity of
the intersections of race, gender and the environment. This shift from contemporary
environmentalism to decolonial environmental justice allows for recognition of one s place in both
privileged and oppression. Because of the representation in this movement, the decolonial
environmental justice movement, people of color, there has been a lot of mainstream backlash.
This movement is and has been criminalized by many and met with militant

The Impact Of The British Revolution In Colonial America
Following the French and Indian War, Great Britain began to tighten control over the American
colonies. Britain constricted the rights of the colonists by enacting numerous pieces of legislation.
Some of these acts attempted to tax the colonists on products such as stamps, tea, and currency.
After which, what legislature was passed by the British Parliament, resistance from the American
colonists grew due to these policies of legislation. Changes in British policy in the 1770s, led to a
revolution in colonial America evident in political, economic, and social issues. The Revolutionary
War was caused by the British Parliament, one is because of the political issues. For example, on
January 14, 1776, George Greenville explained that Britain had the supreme legislative power over
America (Document 1). According to Greenville, Britain had this supreme legislative power
because Parliament had provided the colonists with much of their needs (Document 1). Greenville
continued that this was why British Parliament believed they had the power to impose taxes on the
American colonies (Document 1). As a member of British Parliament, Greenville believed that
America should obey Britain because of the protection the British provide to the colonies
(Document 1). Some of the protection the British provided was military protection from the Indians
(Document 1). Greenville s statement proved that Britain believed they were politically superior of
the American colonists. George Washington,

Examples Of Colonialism In The Kite Runner
Khaled Hussein s novel The Kite Runner is totally based on postcolonial theory. In the text, the

black people against the colonizers in the Chinua Achebe s novel things fall apart. Here in the
article I summed up and compared the resistance of the native against the colonizers and along with
that I also compared the diasporic elements which exists in both texts. Apart from these two
elements here in the research article I also compared the two minor and child characters Sohrab and

It depicts how Khaled Hosseini deals with diasporic life in the United States and reflects it

the discussion draws attention to Khaled Hosseini s memory of childhood reflected on the
character of Amir. Secondly, it focuses on Khaled Hosseini s reason coming to the United States

Amir s character. Lastly, it discusses the development of Khaled Hosseini s diasporic life

of the author s diasporic life in the novel. The result of this study proves that Khaled Hosseini has

Petrarch s The Ascent Of Mont Ventoux
While reading Petrarch The Ascent of Mont Ventoux I noticed that it had some similarities to Dante
s Purgatory that were more hidden. The fact that they are both climbing a mountain trying to
accomplish something is one thing but it also is very deep with meaning. In Mont Ventoux Petrarch
is climbing the mountain for the view of it, while Dante is climbing it to reach Heaven, they both
religious men and in their journey they change a bit themselves. Dante is cleansing himself of sins
each time he moves up a stage in Purgatory and it s one step closer to reaching Paradiso. On the
other hand Petrarch is not yet a changed man until he reaches the top. Along the way up the
mountain he tries to find a shortcut instead of the harder and longer... Show more content on

I just don t think it s a shame to want things. I also don t exactly agree on the statement of how
we must look at our sins inside our soul without the grace of God. I agree we need God s grace
for the right to Heaven but I don t agree that we have to get rid of our worldly desires in order for
us to reach Heaven. I understand the Petrarch was a Christian but he obviously had a more
influence for having Catholic views and thoughts. Going back to the question Professor Hepola
examined, is he right, the soul is the greatest thing and not just on my sins, but me? I say the
greatest thing is faith and the grace of God, not the soul. Without God we wouldn t be here with
a soul or even having sin because God created Adam and Eve. Without His grace we cannot
become what we need to be, our essence and our telos is to be holy for Him. Just like Dante did
when we was climbing to the top of Purgatory, he had to be cleansed of his sins and when he
reached the top he was a man that was devoted to worshipping God and was sin free. Yes, the soul
has to be purified and washed before entering Heaven but it is not the greatest thing for

Quebec Should Not Separate from Canada
Quebec should not separate from Canada
Quebec was founded by French settlers during the 16th century. It was then conquered by the
British (known as the conquest of New France in 1760). The Philosophy of the Enlightment allowed
Britain s victory to treat the French people with dignity as both nations were civilized societies
(source?). The British allowed the French occupants to maintain cultural aspects such as language
and traditions (source?). In effect, The Quebec Act was published in 1974, in efforts to ensure
loyalty from the French as the British government worried that the remaining French people would

Trade barriers and agreements prevent free flow of goods and services. Quebec s main industries
of textiles, furniture and dairy farms are reliant on the rest of Canada, would be adversely affected.
For example, dairy products from Quebec, which provide half of the industrial milk for the rest
country, would be subjected to higher prices and would decrease its demand. Quebec would lose
a stable supply of oil and gasoline from Canada (source). Resources of this nature in any industry
would be a sensitive matter and problematic as people would be subjected to higher energy costs.
International trade agreements would spread to both Canada and Quebec in negotiations with
foreign countries. The negotiation processes are time consuming with high expenses and
exhausting efforts. For example, to negotiate a free trade agreement with the United States, it took
more than two years with over a hundred of employees (source?). The aggregate costs of the
negotiations were estimated to be 30 million dollars (source?). Quebec does not only need to
renegotiate with the United States; it would then have to negotiate with an additional 170 countries.
Due to the high intervention of Quebec government in the economy, it is unlikely Quebec would
attain sustainable free trade agreements with other countries. Given the weaker external position of
Quebec in foreign affairs, it is not easy for the province to bargain higher benefits individually in

some possible reasons why the MP of the product was lower. The intermediate, benzalacetone with
the MP of 42oC (Ref. 2), could be existed in the product resulting in lower the MP of the product.
Another reason could be that the cis trans isomer of dibenzalacetone existed in the product. In order

The Cretaceous-Tertiary Mass Extinction
The age of the planet Earth is estimated to be about four point six billion years old. Life on Earth
is estimated to have started one billion years later. Evolution has taken place since then. Evolving
life from simple forms into more complex forms through the course of time. It all began with single
celled organisms, prokaryotes. Later evolving in a period of two hundred million years,
cyanobacteria began to produce photosynthesis. And life went on, evolving, adapting to its home.
However through this course of time, mass extinctions have taken place on planet Earth. One of the
most recent mass extinctions, has as a matter of fact left various amounts of evidence of the
creatures which roamed the Earth at that time. Such magnificent creatures which varied from a
very small size to giant sizes. Creatures which are now known to humanity as dinosaurs. The
name of this extinction was the Cretaceous Tertiary Mass Extinction. This extinction took place
roughly sixty five million years ago. It has not been too long since this incident compared to the
life span of the Earth. And yet it is still unclear how this extinction occurred. Paleontologists to
this day, debate on how this extinction occurred. A major factor on what caused this extinction to
occur was an impact of an asteroid. Another theory such as sea level regression is considered to
be the blame for the extinction. Sea level regression is the drop of sea levels which aids to explain
the marine mass extinction, however

Analysis Of The General Observation Is The Narrator Of Cane
posed as: Will a character come to terms with himself and achieve wholeness as a person? How
will a character find pride and acceptance in himself? Is there meaning, within this telling, for black
people in either the North or the South?
An unnamed Narrator navigates the space between reality and fable, enabling engagement with
the characters. For the purposes of this paper, the general observation is that Toomer is the
Narrator of Cane. Using a tone of authority, he narrates and judges his characters and their
situations, as he links racial groups and gender through an intimacy that he shares with the reader
even when he allows his own knowledge to be both limited and incomplete, perhaps as a caveat to
his own racial views.

Cane s narrator often trivializes the women he speaks of, subjecting them to a privileged male gaze
and specific objectivity, despite their connection to the struggle for black value and humanity. As a
collage of related pieces, on their own, the characters of Cane struggle to own themselves, struggle
against white society, and struggle against their blackness and their past, generating a constant pull
for connection as a thematic struggle for self unity.
Toomer depends on evocative symbolic representation to carry the messages of Cane, and this
includes the movement, scent, and sounds of the titular sugar cane plant. The cane makes issue of
the work, location, and economics attached to the plant s value to the South, and to the black and
white people who do the work of production. It also serves to embody the experience of the
painful southern history of enslavement. Similarly, the Cotton Flower stands as a symbol of life,
hope, and beauty coming from a cruel, waterless, and barren land. A plant with a hard and thorny
exterior, it grows amid and in spite of Jim Crow, vestiges of chattel enslavement, and the powerless
terrors of disenfranchisement.
Dusk is a powerful symbol in Cane and this time of day occurs in nearly every piece. It is a
moment of mystery, secrets, threat, contention, and potential magic. Dusk also serves to remind the
reader of how the dusky

Edvard Munch The Scream Analysis
Specifically, are there artists whose creative practice might be viewed as art therapy? There are
artists that have used their art to work through pain and mental illness. Edvard Munch is best
known for The Scream , many of his other works also explore intense psychological themes. He
suffered from deep depression during his lifetime and his art often reflected events that happened to
him.
Sickness insanity and death were the angels that surrounded my cradle and they have followed me
throughout my life. (Edvard Munch; www.goodreads.com)
Many of Munch s other paintings also express the depressed and hopeless mood that tormented
him throughout his life, his obsession with death and his overwhelming fears. These include;
Blossom of pain Vampire Anxiety Death in the sick chamber Melancholy Self portrait in distress
The death bed . (See figure 2) The Scream by the Norwegian artist Edward Munch is the second
most famous image in art history, after Leonardo s Mona Lisa. There are actually four versions of
The Scream that Munch created in his lifetime. It has been suggested that the Scream is a self
portrait or that inspiration came from a Peruvian mummy that Munch saw at the World s Fair in
Paris in 1889. The following works were hand painted by Munch in poetic form on the Frame of
the 1895 version.
I was walking along a path with two friends, the sun was setting, suddenly the sky turned blood
red I paused, feeling exhausted and leaned on the fence there was blood and tongues of the fire
above the blue, black fjord and the city, my friends walked on and I stood there trembling with
anxiety and I sensed an infinite, scream passing through nature. (Edward Munch;
www.goodreads.com)
When looked at The Scream it seems like someone full of pain and unable to cope anymore, as
Munch suffered from anxiety and agoraphobia. Does the painting portray someone, screaming for
freedom or are they are in deep emotional pain and despair? When you look at the painting the two
main colours are orange and blue, how does the contrasting colours add to the overall impact? The
bright swirling sky and the person,

My Life Of A Cab Calloway
Cab Calloway was born in Rochester, New York, on Christmas Day in 1907. The family
relocated to Baltimore, Maryland. His mother, Martha Eulalia Reed, was a Morgan State College
graduate, teacher and church organist. His father, Cabell Calloway, Jr., was a graduate of Lincoln
University of Pennsylvania in 1898 and worked as a lawyer and in real estate
Cab Calloway spent his adolescent years growing up in West Baltimore s Sugar Hill, considered
the political, cultural, and business hub of black society. There he grew up comfortably in a
middle class household. Early on, his parents recognized their son s musical talent and he began
private voice lessons in 1922. He continued to study music and voice throughout his formal
schooling. Despite his parents and teachers disapproval of jazz, Calloway began frequenting and
performing in many of Baltimore s nightclubs. As a result, he came into contact with many of the
local jazz luminaries of the time. He counted among his early mentors drummer Chick Webb and
pianist Johnny Jones. After his graduation from Frederick Douglass High School,Calloway joined
his older sister, Blanche, in a touring production of the popular black musical revue, Plantation

would often credit her as his inspiration for entering show business.) His parents had hopes of their
son becoming an attorney following after his father, so Calloway enrolled at Crane College in

The Effects of Television Violence on Children
According to the Article ?Violence on Television? published by the American Psychological
Association at the website http://www.apa.org/pubinfo/violence.html, ?violent programs on
television lead to aggressive behavior by children and teenagers who watch those programs.? That
s the word from a 1982 report by the National Institute of Mental Health, a report that confirmed
and extended an earlier study done by the Surgeon General. As a result of these and other research
findings, the American Psychological Association passed a resolution in February 1985 informing
broadcasters and the public of the potential dangers that viewing violence on television can have for
children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The researchers noticed real differences between the kids who watched the violent shows and
those who watched nonviolent ones. According to Aletha Huston, Ph.D., ?children who watch
the violent shows, even just funny cartoons, were more likely to hit out at their playmates,
argue, disobey class rules, leave tasks unfinished, and were less willing to wait for things than
those who watched the nonviolent programs.? Findings from the laboratory are further
supported by field studies, which have shown the long range effects of televised violence.
Leonard Eron, Ph.D., and his associates at the University of Illinois, found that children who
watched many hours of TV violence when they were in elementary school tended to also show a
?higher level of aggressive behavior? when they became teenagers. By observing these
youngsters until they were 30 years old, Dr. Eron found that the ones who ?had watched a lot of
TV when they were eight years old were more likely to be arrested and prosecuted for criminal acts
as adults?.
Television does influence children, however parents have tremendous power to moderate that
influence. Because there is a great deal of violence in both adult and children s programming, just
limiting the number of hours children watch television will probably

Analgesima Essay
Analgesics
Pain control is essential to quality patient care. Otitis externa can be quite painful, and patients
frequently request analgesics. These agents ensure patient comfort and may have sedating
properties. Inexpensive, simple non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) reduce
inflammation and irritation and can be paired with opiates to improve pain symptoms. In some
cases, systemic analgesics are helpful before ear cleaning or wick placement (27,20).

Occasionally an abscess forms in the ear canal; this usually occurs in cases of OE caused by S.
aureus (6). Treatment of the abscess is often accomplished by means of a simple incision and
drainage procedure using a needle or a small blade.
Long term monitoring
For a patient of OE with debris, a suctioning of the EAC on a weekly basis is required until debris
has been removed. Patients must be monitored to ensure complete resolution of OE. Even in mild
cases, follow up is important for evaluating the response to treatment. A follow up visit 1 week after
starting treatment is usually adequate (3).
(d) Prognosis
Most incidents of OE resolve without difficulty. The majority of patients improve within 48 72
hours of antibiotic administration. Failure to improve within 2 3 days should call the diagnosis into
question and prompt the physician to reevaluate the patient. Otitis externa usually resolves fully in
7 10 days (3). Resolution of eczematoid OE occurs with control of the primary skin condition. In
some patients, OE can cause severe otalgia necessitating administration of narcotic pain relievers.
Pain usually improves 2 5 days after initiating therapy (27). Temporary hearing loss is common
secondary to canal occlusion. Severe infections may cause cellulitis or lymphadenitis of the face or

Against the British rule all classes of people combined and brought together for the first time. The

League of Nations Mandate
In 1919, the victorious allied powers established the league of nations, after defeating the

Character Analysis Of King Kong
King Kong is exciting screenplay that does a great job at demonstrating what the characters are
feeling. When the writers wanted to illustrate fear, they do so by painting an image terror, and
makes it relatable. By making a scene relatable, it helps with the understanding of the character s
motives, and gives insight to the kind of person that character is. By having a complex villain such
as King Kong, one battles the urge to root for Kong, as well as wanting him to ceased. While
writers do an overall great job with the development of the characters, where they lacks is in love
story between Darrow and Driscoll. By not successfully developing the relationship between
Darrow and Driscoll in the beginning, love between the two feels rushed, which therefore makes it
challenging to care about their relationship. Overall King Kong is a well written screenplay, that
shows does a great job at showing what the characters are feeling throughout.
Where the writers of the screenplay succeed is in illustrating the emotion that the character is
feeling at that moment. If one does not do this successfully, it makes it hard to invest in the
characters, and understand the situation of the scene. An example of this is when Carl and the
ship crew approach Skull Island. As they are approaching the undiscovered island, the writers
describe this thick fog that the characters enter (47). By doing this, the writers demonstrates
imagery to describe the dark and eerie place. As the characters are unable to see through the fog,
they start to become afraid, as they fear of the unknown. An example of this being expressed is
when one of the ship crew members Hayes yells captain, you don t know where the hell you re
going (49)! Panic and terror possess the characters, and the writers do a great of showing it.
The writers do a great job with the development of King Kong and making him a complex
character. At first, King Kong appears to be the stereotypical monster/villain that only kills and
destroys, but later in the story, King Kong shows a different side of him that a character such as
himself usually does not display. A moment where the complexity of King Kong s character is
shown is when Ann and Kong have their first real

In Meditations on First Philosophy, Descartes takes the reader through a methodological exercise in
philosophical enquiry. After stripping the intellect of all doubtful and false beliefs, he re examines
the nature and structure of being in an attempt to secure a universally valid epistemology free from

The will, at its most basic, consists in saying yes or no to ideas or propositions. Descartes adopts
the position that the free will is independent of the deterministic and fundamental laws that govern
matter. Human behavior is neither dictated by mechanical compulsion, nor persuaded or coerced
by God, nor influenced by any external force to act in a predetermined manner. Descartes, in a bold
stroke, proclaims the divine grace of God along with natural knowledge actually increases and
strengthens human freedom, as opposed to restricting its effectiveness.
As a thinking entity, Descartes is a consciousness mind aware of the potential to engage in various
modes of existence. To the numerous operations of thought he includes doubting, understanding,
affirming, denying, willing, refusing, imagining, and sensing. As varied and manifold as these
operations appear, they are but expressions of two principal types of conscious activity, to which
Descartes eventually traces the nature of error. Thinking and reasoning, together with all belief in
general, depend upon the operation of the twin faculties knowing and choosing, or the free will.
Garrett Thompson writes:

What Being A Patriot Means To Me Essay
What Does Being a Patriot Mean to Me? Being a Patriot means to be proud of my country and to
have love and support for it. Support should be present when defending the country s power and
interests. Love should be expressed through kindness and respect to others. As a Patriot, it is my
responsibility to be proud of the accomplishments of my country and to show honor for the efforts
that were made to form and establish my country.
The importance of the United States history should be recognized and valued by Patriots due to its
significance it has in our daily lives. We should be intrigued to learn American History and

It is important to know the sacrifices that were made for the United States of America and to
realize that these sacrifices are still being made daily. We need to be thankful for the military and
display honor towards the active soldiers and veterans. They make tremendous sacrifices
including risking their lives to uphold our civil liberties so that we can reside in peace and live in
a free country. As we honor and respect our military, we also can show pride with our government.
Defending the government should be a priority of a Patriot because without the government our
country would lack order and organization and would not be able to prosper and flourish. It is
necessary to be familiar with the issues and interests of the United States of America and to
understand the consequences that can result from them. We should also be prepared to assist the
government with our dependability, involvement, predictability, and clarity. Along with supporting
the government, a Patriot must lend a hand to the community and help those around

Chipping Vs Pitching
Chipping
There are some newer Golfers who confuse chipping and pitching . The difference is that chipping
is more similar to putting. A chipping swing is more restricted to just the shoulders and arms. Your
body remains still.
What makes a good chip shot is a proper setup and swing. Whenever you set up to make a chip
shot you need to use an open stance . Keep your feet and hips opened slightly toward your target.
It s natural for this stance to feel a bit odd at first. However, it s necessary for giving your arms
the room they need to swing through your target. When you make a chip shot and use a square
stance, your wrists are at risk of unhinging.
Play your ball toward the back foot while narrowing your stance. Utilize a neutral grip ... Show

You should wiggle your feet and firmly plant them into the sand. Now choke down ever so
slightly on the club. Your ball is usually played off your left foot but can be adjusted as needed.
Whenever you re ready to take your swing, bring the club back as far as necessary to hit your
ball. To have a successful down swing you ll have to accelerate your club head while making
contact with your ball.
Be sure your club enters the sand at least 1 or maybe 2 inches behind your ball. Allow your club
to do all the work while it enters the sand. Avoid trying to scoop your ball upward and out.
A crucial element of all sand shots is to accelerate through impact . This is especially true when
the sand is wet or packed tightly. The acceleration will be the one single thing keeping the club
head from stopping as it impacts its way through the sand.
A sand shot follow through has to be full as well as smooth without any sudden stops. Keep the
head down and avoid the urge to eye the ball as it s coming out.
Week 3 Weekly Task #3
Be sure to spend some time practicing greens and sand areas. Try out different clubs and vary the
depth of the ball from up on top to almost buried. That s the way you master your sand

The Hound Of The Baskervilles
Sir Arthur Conan Doyles The Hound of the Baskervilles is a mysterious Sherlock Holmes story
that is sure to surprise you. It doesn t contain any incredibly scary parts, despite its misleading
title, due to the era in which it was created. As with any movie mad in the mid to late 1900 s its
made in black and white, and the special effects/camera work isn t the best. But besides these
few minor drawbacks The Hound of the Baskervilles is a great, classic movie that contains an
intriguing story, a well rounded cast of characters, and a killer who is sure to surprise you. The
story begins with a man running through the moor, only to collapse and die. The death is rules as
heart failure, but some believe it was murder. In particular Dr. Mortimer believed it was murder,
so he calls for the help of Sherlock Holmesand Dr. Watson to protect the heir to the estate, Sir
Henry Baskerville. After Sir Henry arrives in London, on the way to Holmes house, he receives a
death threat via a rock thrown through the cabs window. Then once he leaves Holmes house, there

him to the estate. Holmes says that he is unable to accompany, but will send Dr. Watson. Once
arriving at the estate, they encounter several shady characters including the maid and butler, a man

Baroque Period Research Paper
Baroque Period, during which a few of the greatest composers on this planet were born, brought
classical music onto a whole new level. The word Baroque , which came from the Portuguese for
the imperfect pearl , implies strange, extravagant and overblown. Toccata, fugue, chorale, ortario,
and the concerto Grosso, all of these special musical forms were created and represent this period.
The six main characteristics: increased emotional expression, contrast, use of basso continuo,
continued harmonic development, use of ornament, and the emphasis of improvisation, molded the
unique style of musicof the Baroqueperiod.
First of all, one of the most important characteristics of music in this period was the increased
emotional expression. During the Renaissance, emotions of ... Show more content on

At this period, composers rarely wrote out ornaments because they expected performers to add them
on their own. Thus, sometimes the same piece sounds different because performers add ornaments
on their own. Additionally, long treaties about proper usage of ornaments were written.
Finally, the last element is the emphasis on improvisation: the ability to extemporaneously compose
on an existing melody. This is often considered as a chance to show off for the performers. Through
improvisations and ornaments which were both elaborated by the extemporaneously composition
of performers added interest and differences between music and even the same piece of music
might sound different.
All of these elements constructed the unique structure and texture of the Baroque music. Without
any one of them, music would not be as interesting as it is now, and the signature of each composer
and characteristic of each piece would not be as different as they are now. Through understanding
these characteristics, one can further understand the texture of Baroque music and understand what
the composer thought while composing this

For the most part, we clearly do not have enough data and an indication of numerous odd occurrences beneath the ocean. Though, many people have witnessed many peculiar creatures in the ocean. By that, I mean the Mermaids, Merman, the Loch Ness Monster, Sea Serpents, Sirens and many more. Various people matter of factly claimed to have seen one, but others believe that it s just a myth, or they have claimed that it was a figment of one s imagination. Countries like Japan and China were gravely affected by the catastrophes that ensued during this time, and are continuing to grapple with its effects on a personal and institutional level. This has ultimately effected the ways in which younger generations have come to understand this influential period in history while teachings of the facts, representation, and recollections of World War II in the public school systems vary, as misunderstandings and clashing of ideas still exist even almost a decade later. She remembers learning about World War II with negative bias towards European countries, and Japan especially, as they were told that China was attacked by Japan. Some of the messages she remembers claimed that China s involvement in World War II was purely self defense, the Communist Party was the key to victory, and Japan was defeated by Chinese resistance. Jie also does not remember any of her classes or textbooks mentioning the Chinese famine that killed millions during this era. The ultimate message of World War II lessons was that China prevented Japan from taking over the world, in order to justify their own actions. Chinese also often scolds Japan for not teaching an accurate history of World War II, although much of the information, including those in Chinese textbooks, Jie has come to realize, was screened. Therefore many events were merely ignored based on what the Chinese government deemed as too controversial. She explains that China continues to desire global support for Japan not to be allowed to downplay their own atrocities in textbooks and public schools, although her own country may also be guilty of this. She also remembers learning about many facts during this time but was not always given an explanation of why these events occurred. • 6. Exploring The Soul In Sir Walter Raleigh s The Lie In Sir Walter Raleigh s The Lie , the speaker tells the soul to go upon a thankless errand and go accuse the world of lying. The speaker states that the soul has the truth as its warrant, which gives the soul no reason to fear telling authorities or those with power. The second stanza starts with the speaker telling the soulto accuse the church and the court of their wrongdoings. In the third stanza, he tells the soul what to say about the potentates, and the speaker says their greedy people only doing favors for money. The fourth and fifth stanzas describe men of high status as greedy only interested in advancing their own agenda. The next three stanzas have the speaker telling the soul about human qualities, such as love, age, beauty, wisdom, and wit, of their wrongdoings. The next four stanzas are similar, and the speaker tells the soul to accuse charity, law, nature, justice, schools and more about how they do nothing good for society. Then, after the speaker list all the people and virtues that need to improve, he tells the soul that it may face opposition but should not worry since no stab thy soul can kill (Raleigh 78). There are a wide variety of characteristics common among DUI offenders which are discussed, including: anxiety, depression, inhibition, low assertiveness, neuroticism and introversion . There is also a more specific personality type found, typically more antisocial, among repeat DUI offenders. It is also common for offenders to use drinking as a coping mechanism, not necessarily for social or enjoyment reasons, when they are antisocial in nature and have a father with a history of alcoholism. Offenders who begin drinking at an earlier age for thrills and fun are more likely to be antisocial later in their lives. Decolonial Environmental Justice Movement Analysis The environmental movement to preserve and restore land has been something that has been cultivated by the west and believed to be applied everywhere even where it is not applicable. It is actually an incorrect approach to helping stop ecological degradation. In these previously colonized nations, there has been a push for decolonal environmental justice . This approach embodies the intersectionality of the oppression of communities of color and their land; it connects environmental degradation and political and economic inequalities. According to Reed, movements are now becoming more intertwined, in the context of these global movements for justice, the lines between environmental movements and other movements have grown increasingly and... This is what decolonial environmental justice tries to disrupt, this is a movement for the people, by the people. As previously stated, colonialism has created these external barriers and division, one of those being race. Race was created in the justification of colonialism, this driving force is a main proponent behind the decolonial environmental justice movement, Yet much remains to be done to move beyond US centric versions of environmentalism and to expose the racism that blinds us to the roots of ecological devastation (39 Reed) . By critically analyzing this, one can understand the complexity of the intersections of race, gender and the environment. This shift from contemporary environmentalism to decolonial environmental justice allows for recognition of one s place in both privileged and oppression. • 11. The Impact Of The British Revolution In Colonial America Following the French and Indian War, Great Britain began to tighten control over the American colonies. Britain constricted the rights of the colonists by enacting numerous pieces of legislation. Some of these acts attempted to tax the colonists on products such as stamps, tea, and currency. After which, what legislature was passed by the British Parliament, resistance from the American colonists grew due to these policies of legislation. Changes in British policy in the 1770s, led to a revolution in colonial America evident in political, economic, and social issues. The Revolutionary War was caused by the British Parliament, one is because of the political issues. For example, on January 14, 1776, George Greenville explained that Britain had the supreme legislative power over America (Document 1). According to Greenville, Britain had this supreme legislative power because Parliament had provided the colonists with much of their needs (Document 1). Greenville continued that this was why British Parliament believed they had the power to impose taxes on the American colonies (Document 1). As a member of British Parliament, Greenville believed that America should obey Britain because of the protection the British provide to the colonies (Document 1). Some of the protection the British provided was military protection from the Indians (Document 1). Greenville s statement proved that Britain believed they were politically superior of the American colonists. George Washington, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Mont Ventoux Petrarch is climbing the mountain for the view of it, while Dante is climbing it to reach Heaven, they both religious men and in their journey they change a bit themselves. Dante is cleansing himself of sins each time he moves up a stage in Purgatory and it s one step closer to reaching Paradiso. I understand the Petrarch was a Christian but he obviously had a more influence for having Catholic views and thoughts. Going back to the question Professor Hepola examined, is he right, the soul is the greatest thing and not just on my sins, but me? I say the greatest thing is faith and the grace of God, not the soul. Without God we wouldn t be here with a soul or even having sin because God created Adam and Eve. Without His grace we cannot become what we need to be, our essence and our telos is to be holy for Him. Just like Dante did when we was climbing to the top of Purgatory, he had to be cleansed of his sins and when he reached the top he was a man that was devoted to worshipping God and was sin free. Such magnificent creatures which varied from a very small size to giant sizes. Creatures which are now known to humanity as dinosaurs. The name of this extinction was the Cretaceous Tertiary Mass Extinction. This extinction took place roughly sixty five million years ago. It has not been too long since this incident compared to the life span of the Earth. And yet it is still unclear how this extinction occurred. Paleontologists to this day, debate on how this extinction occurred. A major factor on what caused this extinction to occur was an impact of an asteroid. For the purposes of this paper, the general observation is that Toomer is the Narrator of Cane. Cane s narrator often trivializes the women he speaks of, subjecting them to a privileged male gaze and specific objectivity, despite their connection to the struggle for black value and humanity. As a collage of related pieces, on their own, the characters of Cane struggle to own themselves, struggle against white society, and struggle against their blackness and their past, generating a constant pull for connection as a thematic struggle for self unity. Toomer depends on evocative symbolic representation to carry the messages of Cane, and this includes the movement, scent, and sounds of the titular sugar cane plant. The cane makes issue of the work, location, and economics attached to the plant s value to the South, and to the black and white people who do the work of production. When the writers wanted to illustrate fear, they do so by painting an image terror, and makes it relatable. By making a scene relatable, it helps with the understanding of the character s motives, and gives insight to the kind of person that character is. By having a complex villain such as King Kong, one battles the urge to root for Kong, as well as wanting him to ceased. While writers do an overall great job with the development of the characters, where they lacks is in love story between Darrow and Driscoll. By not successfully developing the relationship between Darrow and Driscoll in the beginning, love between the two feels rushed, which therefore makes it challenging to care about their relationship. Overall King Kong is a well written screenplay, that shows does a great job at showing what the characters are feeling throughout. Where the writers of the screenplay succeed is in illustrating the emotion that the character is feeling at that moment. If one does not do this successfully, it makes it hard to invest in the characters, and understand the situation of the scene. An example of this is when Carl and the ship crew approach Skull Island. As they are approaching the undiscovered island, the writers describe this thick fog that the characters enter (47). By doing this, the writers demonstrates imagery to describe the dark and eerie place. As the characters are unable to see through the fog, they start to become afraid, as they fear of the unknown. An example of this being expressed is when one of the ship crew members Hayes yells captain, you don t know where the hell you re going (49)!
