Pretty Little Lias
E. M. Forester belived that literature should be more than dull facts and physical reality.
Authors of both experienced and inexpirenced backgrounds, have and will always attempt to
entertain the audience by keeping them engaged. The passion of the writer is refected onto the
words on the pages. Literature that is meant to entertain like Pretty Little Liars, should expand
one s imagination and open mindedness. The book series Pretty Little Liars, by Sara Shepard,
are extraordinary books that involve both mystery and a little bit of horror. The series is about 5
high school girls who are being bullied, threatened, and even abused by a mystery character who
goes by the name of A . The setting takes place in a small town of Rosewood, and it

Egoism In Ayn Rand s The Fountainhead
Egoism. In many occasions in today s world, egoism is frowned upon. However, to Prometheus
in Ayn Rand s Anthem, the word ego is holy. Although egoism is not approved of in the society
we live in, it is not an unacceptable doing for Prometheus to call holy. Howard Roark, one of Ayn
Rand s characters in The Fountainhead, voiced similar opinions in his speech, The Soul of an
Individualist. Egoismis simply valuing one s own work and ideas, so Prometheus is certainly and
egoist, but egoism can be great in moderation. According to Howard Roark s speech, The Soul of
an Individualist, To think, to feel, to judge, to act are functions of the ego. This quote shows that
ego is an integral part of being human, because all people, individuals or collectivists, think, feel,
judge, and act. Roark also stated that, The first right on earth is the right of ego. Therefore, if one is

When egoism is too strong, the person who is so egotistical can become rude, arrogant, and
pompous. This can happen because the egoist can become so engrossed in his/her own work
and achievements that he/she doesn t recognize or acknowledge that of others. However, in
moderation, egoism can be fantastically useful for thinking about and developing new things.
In Roark s speech, The Soul of an Individualist, Roark states that No creator was prompted by a
desire to serve his brothers, for his brothers rejected the gift he offered and that gift destroyed the
slothful routine of their lives. His truth was his only motive. Because the creator s truth was his
only motive, he was only fueled to create by his own ego and his pride in what he could conceive
on his own. Without his ego, the creator would have no desire to create. Although harsh egoism
can be harmful, moderate egoism can work wonders. As Roark states, . . . the mind is an attribute
of the individual. There is no such thing as a collective

Dietary Guidelines
The Dietary Guidelines have become a very argumentative field. While most of it s research is
coming up controversial or unacceptable many physicians have found what they believe would be
a better fit for the guidelines. While the obesity and heart diseases increase the fight for the truth of
what is the best diet for compression of morbidity. These articles display the common problems that
people have been recognizing about our dietary guidelines.
The first article The scientific reporting guiding the US dietary guidelines: is it scientific by Nina

field where public research dollars are scarce, nearly all nutrition scientists accept funding from

Hermann s Addiction To Gambling

While he does not actually gamble for fear of losing all that he has, he is very much addicted.
However, his common sense overrides his addiction, so he does not actually participate. This
addiction possibly stems from the fact that he does not have much money, and he wants to have
more. Hermann says himself, I am not in the position to sacrifice the essentials of life in the hope

Essay on The Young Offenders Act
The Young Offenders Act
The federal government of Canada fifteen years ago, in 1984, the Liberal party changed the
Juvenile Delinquents Acts to the Youth Offenders Act to have a More human approach to the
rights of young people before the law (Leschild and Jaffe, 8:1991). In the present such as Premier,
Mike Harris, of Ontario wants the federal government of Canada to scrap the Young Offenders Act
.
In 1999, the same party that came up with the act is making majors changes to the act. This report
will look at the young offenders act at the present time, look at why kids commit crime, what is
being done to improve the act, what has the province done towards teenagers and also a look at the
United Sates youth system.

abuse and/or physical abuse. Kaye goes on to say that Even through parents have been loving
attentive, children will choose a life of prostitution, drugs, and violence (Kayne, 50,late 80,s).
Toronto defence counsel Bill Trudell said it best when he said We don t we just recognise in this
country we have kids who don t ask to be brought into this world, who have all kinds of pressures
we don t even imagine and who aren t Martians, they re kids? Allmand who is one of the most left

kind of problems youths are experiencing today (Tyler, Insight: 1994).

offences have increased. This would included all persons ages 17 and under or less charged with an
offence that was dealt with informally by the police. The total of all offence in 1985 was at
188,958 and by the year 1989 it had jumped to 225, 766 so an increase of 36,808 in just 4 years. A
big suprise was in the rise in numbers of the Drug offence. In 1985, it was at 4,290 and in 1986 it
jumped up to 4,767, but by the year 1989 it was at 4,253. In that 5 year period it decreased by 43
but at least it is a start in one area (Ruffo, 4,1994). But it is not really young people committing the

Government Privacy Analysis
How much do you know about the American government? Does the government respect the
privacy of their citizens? Is the government violating Americans privacy? In 2013 a guy named
Edward Snowden released government files that prove that the government has a file for every
cell phone in America. Meaning that every text message, photo, phone call, email, etc is being
recorded, making it easier for the government to track down anyone that they want. Americans
privacy is being violated very similarly to the privacy violations in 1984, a novel written by George
Orwell. In the present day and in 1984 people could be easily tracked down and are being watched
every second, of every day. Personally I believe that the privacy shouldn t be violated for... Show

If anyone ever started to act suspicious or do unusual activity, the FBI will then pull up that
person s cell phone file, and review every text message, phone call, email, etc. Thanks to a guy
named Edward Snowden these files were released to show everyone the secret activity the
government does behind the people s backs. Edward Snowden worked for the NSA and had many
important roles. When Snowden came across these files he felt the need the documents because he
believed that these types of decisions should be determined by the public. And just like Edward
Snowden I do strongly believe that the government should not have made the decision of recording
private information without notifying us, the citizens. Even though these actions are meant to
protect and to prevent, however this is a total violation of privacy which is not ok.
In conclusion, every person with a cellular device does have a file that the government has just
in case. Cell phones are losing it s original purpose and should now be considered a tracking
device. If the government kept this secret, who knows what else they could be hiding. Personally
it s frightening to know that the government knows where you are, who you were with, how long
you were with that person, and when you went back home. Just like in 1984 you never know when

points. In this essay I will be telling about the mongoose defenses, attacks and weapons.
First, the mongoose has a variety of defenses they picked up. According to Grolier Online (2015),

Political Socialization Essay
Political socialization is a concept that shows the development of children and adolescents who
attain political cognition, attitudes, and behaviors. Political socialization routinely begins in
children. There are multiple factors that influence the political socialization of citizens. Research
theorizes that familyand school teachers are the most influential. Recent research also states that
media plays an important role on influence as well. Everything a child does from birth to around the
adolescent age is more than likely taught through family. As a child they tend to look up to who run
their household. Certain views, attitudes, and behaviors are mimicked because that is the only
platform that is being viewed at the time. Families tend to have an impact on children
unintentionally by acting an example for children. It is often that children end up with the same
political views as the parents of that household. Parents do not flat out talk to children about politics
directly, but the occasional remarks that are made often have serious impact. Family beliefs are a
factor in the party identification such as lifelong republican or lifelong democrat. Studies show that
children have the same party identification as their parents even if they have different views from
them. The family may be losing it accreditation in socialization, but it is still a big factor. By an
early age political symbols are understood. By the time a child is five he/she has some

Desire May Lead To Destruction In A Streetcar Named Desire
Desire May Lead to Destruction In the play Streetcar Named Desire, Tennessee Williams shows
Blanche as a symbol of a Southern lady, the pinnacle of a civilization. In the forties, upper class
southern women s expectations were based on a Victorian model of a woman. The perception
was that women did not express their sexuality and wore clothing that did not expose any body
parts. Also, women did not have many roles except for a housewife, and two appropriate jobs as a
teacher or a nurse. Blanche is an English teacher from a Mississippi. She was raised in a wealthy
family and got a great education. At sixteen years old, she fell deeply in love with a boy named
Allan Gray (Williams 1857). Their marriage served as different grounds for... Show more content on

Right away, he told his wife and Mitch about it. While Blanche was taking a bath she was
singing, But it wouldn t be make believe if you believe in me ( Williams 1861). Blanche knows
that she lied to Mitch and kept the truth from her sister. Thus, the lyrics she was singing show
that she lives in her world of illusions. That day, she was expecting Mitch to come over to
celebrate her birthday. However, he did not show up. At a table, Stanley gave Blanche a ticket
back to Laurel as a gift, knowing that she can not go back there. Stella was upset about it
because she knew that it will ruin her tender and trusting sister (Williams 1865). According to
Encyclopedia Britannica, psychotic behavior can come and go as a result of various influences.
The effects of some drugs can cause psychotic episodes, or a traumatic situation that affects a
person s psychological well being might trigger the episode of neurosis ( Neurosis ). Blanche
feels like her future is slipping away from her and becomes highly neurotic. In her head, she hears
the same polka tune, the Varsouviana , (after which Allen shot himself) and she started to drink to
escape the reality (Williams 1866). The Same night when Mitch came to confront her, she admits
to him about intimacies and school expulsion. When he said that she told him all lies, in return
she said, Never inside, I didn t lie in my heart and I don t want realism. I want magic! (Williams
1869). Maybe in her mind she was still married to Allen. At the very last, it gives Blanche a credit
for her honesty. Nothing in the play justifies the condemnation of her. Yet, nothing justifies her
innocence either after her husband s death (Thomieres

Police Militarization Of Police
The shooting of Michael Brown started a nationwide protest against police brutality. People
protested in the streets of Ferguson and were met with heavily armed, ordinary policeman who
resembled the military instead. Countless of pictures were posted on social media and the issue of
Police Militarization rekindled. Every picture captured the same message and was a rude
awakening of this misuse in power. This misuse of power was illustrated with guns being pointed at
civilians, primarily African Americans, who posed no threat. Yet, the policemen were dressed up as
if they were about to assault these unarmed black men and women.
This illustrates the unnecessary ways in which standard policemen are going about confronting
problems. Here we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see that police militarization has led police to take on a soldier based mentality, as dressing
the part is internalized in their heads that leads them to doing or acting the part. In the pictures
that came out of the Ferguson police surrounding unarmed African Americans and pointing their
guns at them, this tactic is not even used that way in the military. The military follows a strict
order of escalation of force meaning the only time you are going to point a weapon at someone is
when you are going to pull the trigger. But we see that in Ferguson, policemen all over were
pointing their guns at people who did not even pose a threat. The police need to apply less of this
force and the police department and the public should monitor this use of power and this mentality.
This may start by changing police training in ways that teach the application of less force and
separates the distinction between policemen and the military.
Furthermore, there are many problems associated with militarizing our police that we need to
recognize and address. Police militarization started with the intent of combating terrorism but has
grown to unnecessary uses and applications. Instead, we see too much force and tension applied to
minor operations and a lot of misuse of power while handling citizens, primarily people of color. It
does not help that policemen s

The Parthenon Sculptures, The Rightful Possessions Of Greece
The Parthenon Sculptures, the Rightful Possessions of Greece
The British Government have an obligation to give back the Parthenon Sculptures in the British
Museum back to the Greek government. This essay will seek to explain the Greek Arguments of
the cultural importance of the statues in Greece, the importance of uniting the statues with the
Parthenon and the possible illegal possession of the statues. A recount on the attempted Mediation
of the debate conducted by myself and 3 other classmates will also be stated in this essay.
The Parthenon Sculptures of Athens, as stated by the Greek Historian Anaxagoras Are a true
representation of the splendour of Athens. They are a gem to the world, worthy of decorating that
of Olympus . Built in 447BCE, during the construction of the Acropolis of Athens, the Sculptures
are considered by many in the modern world as being the finest samples of Greek Art during the
supposed Gilded Age of Greek Culture from 600BCE to 150BCE. They consist of a vast collection
of over 92 Metopes, 524 feet of elegant Frieze and 17 standing sculptures. Each of these
constructions were formed through the usage of Parian Marble found in the Greek island of Paros,
and were constructed alongside that of the Parthenon of Athens by the Athenians. Their primary
purpose was to lavishly decorate the Parthenon, an Athenian temple constructed to worship the

Thesis Statement On Civic Spaces
Hrushita Davey
PA101614
Masters in Architecture Thesis Proposal
December 2015
Guided by: Professor Jigna Desai
Abstract
My point of departure for this thesis is that in many of our post industrial cities, the civic realm has
increasingly shrunk and the private realm has continuously expanded and civic spaces are arguably
more important today than ever. Most people are found using the unplanned public spaces rather
than the planned public spaces. The issue is approached by focusing on a middle ground between
urban planning and design of individual buildings. The intent is to design an insertion that responds
to specific features of the existing urban structure and the regulatory framework currently in place.
Here the juxtaposition of the old and new becomes the visible passage of time. The re
appropriation of old forms includes what maybe called the neo vernacular as one mode of
intellectual justification for architecture in our times. This proposition is an attempt to demonstrate
a continuous interface between public and private spaces and between access networks and
inhabitable spaces.
Keywords: civic spaces, civic realm, public, middle ground, neo vernacular

The impact on civic spaces post liberalization and the consequent globalization has been
tremendous. Today, most of the emerging civic spaces are sadly being designed like
commodities. The other very obvious shift is seen in the aspiration of cities at large to emerge as
front runners in the global rat race. This global ambition unfortunately fails to acknowledge the
local. While it may be true that the Government, both at the central and state level is trying to
address and bring amends to the existing condition (including the regulatory framework) of the
civic realm, there is still a long way to go for concrete

Edict Of Mil A Roman Emperor From 306-337 Ad
Edict of Milan Constantine the Great was a Roman Emperor from 306 337 AD. He was a soldier
who arduously worked to climb through the ranks, working through a civil war to become emperor.
He is most famous for establishing a new capital where Byzantium once was, and named the new
establishment Constantinople. However, Constantine is most famous for becoming Roman
Emperor who converted to Christianityin his forties. His mother, Helen, was a Christian and
ultimately decided to convert after believing that the Christian god had helped him in his success
though the war. He enacted the Edict of Milan in the third century with his co emperor Licinius,
and officially declared Christianity legal. This document was one of the most significant and
important writings of the time because it declares that Christians could freely practice religion. This
document ultimately opened up many windows and opportunities for people to openly practice
Christianity and prohibited people being subject to persecution. When Constantine converted, he
made the religion much more known and a religion of the powerful. This made Christianity the
official religion of the empire. Many Christians opted for pacifism and martyrdom as a way to
cope with their persecutors, but now Christians had an access to armies, swords, and an endless
supply of resources.
Many had issues with Christianity and believed that those who supported or practiced it should be
killed. The most known case is the emperor

Hazardous Train Systems
Heavy rail systems in the United States, and around the world, face a number of hazards and
vulnerabilities. For example, the Movement of hazardous materials (HAZMAT) represents a
potential environmental or chemical hazard if an accident were to occur. The 2013 Lac MГ©gantic
rail disaster exemplify this hazard. Although the trainrolled down a very slight (~1 2%) incline, the
devastation that followed was more representative of a bomb being dropped on the town rather
than a rail accident. This is, of course, an extreme instance, however, even the lesser hazards, for
example trespassing, can lead to disastrous consequences. One of the hazards faced by heavy rail
systems is there sheer size. Often consisting of several locomotives... Show more content on

Many procedures are in place to address the dangers surrounding hazardous cargo. For example,
placarding rail cars to identify contents and requiring the train s crews to carry the Material Safety
Data Sheets (MSDS) assist first responders in identifying the material in the event of an accident.
A second concern security plans must address is theft of hazardous material when a train is
parked. What prevents someone from stealing or releasing chlorine gas when a train, like the one
in Lac Megantic, is left running and unattended? Terrorists learned how to fly passenger aircraft so
it isn t beyond the realm of possibility that they are learning how to operate freight trains. These are
both serious security concerns that must be address. Again, referencing the Lac Megantic accident,
it appears the LE began his duty day at 1355 and concluded it at 2330, just 25 minutes short of a 10
hour day. This may seem insignificant, but when we consider that his duty day was primarily at
night and he was operating the train alone, these would be considered contributing, but not causal,
factors resulting in the accident. In this case, security planners might address this vulnerability by
dictating that trains operated after sunset have two crew members or limit the total duty day to 8

The Importance Of Technology In Technology
Technology advancement is prompting our lives, our economy and different countries and change
in technology is influencing business, government and every individual. Many MNCs and main

technology and many companies are taking country base for staring operation due to some good
positive factors like legislation, geography and, allowing knowledge transfer and growing general
tech interest (Cooper and Wahab, 2005). However, being at good position does not mean that
country should rest if there is gap in technology, there are other countries which rapidly upgrading
their technology like Asian countries in social media, Information technology and machinery in the
production house. So updated and innovation in technology are important for Romania as the
technological competition is increasing. The technology shift is upgrading and reshaping the
industries and society and in addition, advance technologies are helping the companies to reach
domestic and international market thus, sales are increasing all over the world. Companies are
selling the technology to other countries, to expand and earning more profit. This technology storm

Expat Kids
Expat Kids How to Cope With the Right Attitude!
By Steven McManus
Jul 15, 2009
Is being an expat all about attitude, and if so, does this have an immense influence on expat
children and how they perceive their situation in this new environment?
After much research on the topic there were a few points that stood out for me on how to be an
expat child these are discussed below:
1. Attitude
Your attitude as the adult and parent is going to greatly influence how your children settle in the
country and accept the move.
We can decide whether to be positive or negative about becoming expats. The more positive parent
results in a well adjusted child who looks at the glass half full, finds the positive in every situation
and tries to adjust as much as you do.
Trudie says: We saw this move as a wonderful opportunity to expose our children to the world and
maybe broaden their horizons.
Shirley says: I hated where we moved to and people were not as friendly as I thought they would
be and it was hard and lonely. I had to work hard to change, but with a positive attitude, my children
have become so much happier.
2. Being Open minded:
In every case of becoming an expat, the circumstances you are going to experience are different. If
you have not been brought up in the culture it is going to be an adjustment. Parents need to be open
minded and to allow their children to do the same.
Monique says: Being an expat parent really depends on a lot of things, e.g. where you are

Throughout time we see African American literature go through it rigorous period of troubled
times. It was not often that African American poets or writers came together to share their identical
thoughts. But, this may have come from some being born in different time periods, or it may have
come from the location that many had to reside in to not be persecuted or damned from society.
Although these writers may have never co existed amongst one another, their writings shared the
same ideas. America needed to offer freedom and equality for blacks across the country, and to be
given anything of less standard was deemed unacceptable.
The Antebellum period of American literature included slave narrators such as Douglass, Brown,
and Jacobs, who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay about William Butler Yeats
William Butler Yeats. William Butler Yeats was the major figure in the cultural revolution which
developed from the strong nationalistic movement at the end of the 19th century. He dominated
the writings of a generation. He established forms and themes which came to be considered as
the norms for writers of his generation. Yeats was a confessional poet that is to say, that he wrote
his poetry directly from his own experiences. He was an idealist, with a purpose. This was to
create Art for his own people the Irish. But in so doing, he experienced considerable frustration and
disillusionment. The tension between this ideal, and the reality is the basis of much of his writing.
One central theme of his earlier poetry is the contrast... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the final stanza, the poet s mood of anger and bitterness changes to one of acceptance and
resignation. He concludes that these petty minded merchants are so locked into their narrow
world of self centred survival, that they are incapable of understanding the motivation and self
sacrifice of patriotism. Even if the dead heroes could return and confront the merchants with the
extent of their sacrifices, they would be unable to understand or appreciate what they had done.
Self interest and materialism reign, idealism is dead and buried. He concludes on a weary note
of acceptance. But let them be, they re dead and gone, They re with O Leary in the grave. The
Fisherman. This poem is also about Art, and the Irish people s response to it. It is structured
around the contrast between the Yeats dream to write for the Irish people, and the reality. The
poem opens on a casual conversational note, Although I can see him still introducing us to the
Fisherman, a wise and simple man who is the symbol of the Irish nation he had hoped to write
for. Yeats has long since accepted that such a man does not exist, but nonetheless he holds on to
him as an inspiration to protect himself against the reality. The reality is depicted in a litany of
powerful, clever men, who misuse their abilities for their own personal ends which are chiefly, the
acquisition and maintenance of power. Their goal is public acclaim, cynically acquired through a
popularity based on the Catch cries of the

Possible Gas Recovery From Darvaza Crater
Possible Gas Recovery from Darvaza Crater
Introduction Near a small village named Darweze (Darvaza in Russian meaning gate), there is a
burning crater named as DOOR TO HELL or HELL S GATE. In 1971 (when Turkmenistan was a
part of Soviet Union) a group of Soviet geologists and engineers found a huge reservoir of natural
gas, which was later found to be fifth largest in the world. A drilling rig was setup to extract it.
Unfortunately, due to primitive technology survey of the ground was not proper. So the rig was
setup on an underground cavern, which later collapsed and left a huge crater in its place. The crater
was 200 feet wide and 66 feet deep. Before collapsing the rig had already digged a hole in the
caprock, as a result methane gas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

digged hole. He and his team stated that on earth there is no other place like this. Now, the hole is
expanding and is said to reach 230 meters in width.
Abstract In Turkmenistan, there is a burning crater named as DOOR TO HELL. In 1971 some
Soviet geologists and engineers had found one of the largest reservoir of natural gas. They set
up a rig and started extracting it. Unfortunately the ground under the rig collapsed leaving a huge
200 meter wide crater. From it methane gas started leaking. Fearing the pollution in local area
and dangers to local population they decided to burn it. According to them it could be burned
within a few days but it is still burning. In 2010 President of Turkmenistan ordered to close it but
due to lack of facilities it could not been done. In 2013 adventurer and explorer George Kourounis
got the permission to go inside the crater. After a brief study of this, need of further research was
found. Seismic survey (3d or 4d if possible) should be done to predict the amount of natural gas left
in the reservoir. Huge amount of methane is mostly found under the sea bed (under very high
temperature). Hence methane under the crater is not formed there (in desert). Its

The Works Of Haydn And Mozart
Haydn and Mozart are often recognised as the two composers who were responsible for bringing
Viennese Classicism to its greatest height. In the public eye, these two great composers could not
be more different, whether it is in terms of their characters or values. This essay sets out to explore
the similarities and differences in the early lives of these two gifted individuals, Wolfgang Amadeus
Mozartand (Franz) Joseph Haydn, through their backgrounds and music education.
Mozart, who was born in 1756 in Salzburg, was Haydn s junior by twenty four years. By the time
he was born, his father, Leopold Mozart, was already a widely known composer and violinist. All
in all, Mozart grew up in a family of fairly good standing and this enabled him to blend in with the
aristocrats and the nobility comfortably and effortlessly.
On the other hand, Haydn was born in a small town call Rohrau. His father, Mathias Haydn, is a
wheelwright, while his mother, Maria Koller, was a cook for the Lords of the village before
marriage. Although the young Haydn s standard of living may not be comparable to that of
Mozart s, Haydn did not live in extreme poverty. Haydn s father and grandfather were both the
magistrate in the village and the preserved bills showed that Mathias were given plenty of work
and was not paid badly. However, with eleven other siblings in the family, despite the fact that only
six of them, including Haydn, survived infancy, Haydn, by no means, had the attention or resources

Dangers Of Deforestation
Why Deforestation Should Stop and How It Affects the Environment?
Today one of the biggest ecological problems is Deforestation. For instance, every year the
rainforests are slowly disappearing due to deforestation which is the permanent clearing of
earth s forests on a massive scale, often resulting in damage to the quality of the land in order to
make the land available for other uses. This can be done legally and illegally. There are many
reasons why trees are remove from a forest. Some of these reasons are to cover needs or to make a
profit. However, the biggest causes of deforestation are agricultural, logging operations and
growth of urban zones. Often, small farmers will clear a few acres by cutting down trees and
burning them in a process known as slash and burn agriculture. Some are caused by a
combination of human and natural factors like wildfires and subsequent overgrazing, which may
prevent the growth of young trees. Logging operations, which provide the world s wood and
paper products, also cut countless trees each year. Loggers, some of them acting illegally, also
build roads to access more remote forests which leads to further deforestation. Forests still cover
about 30 percent of the world s land area and extend throughout half the size of most countries but,
many are lost each year (Live Science).
Stopping deforestation can significantly address numerous challenges including the protection of
millions of animal and plant species, reducing global warming,

The Effects Of Alcohol On The Heart Rate Of Daphnia Magna
ABSTRACT
This report presents the physiological changes in the heart rate of a fresh water crustacean
Daphnia magna when exposed to caffeine and alcohol. Different Daphnia magnas were placed in a
depression slide containing fresh water and later exposed to solutions of caffeine and alcohol. Each
Daphnia magna had different responses. These data suggest there is an increase in heart rate when a
Daphnia magna is exposed to caffeine and a decrease in heart rate when it is in a solution of alcohol.

Introduction The inverse effects between the consumption of stimulant like caffeine and depressant
like alcohol has been well established over the years. Alcohol has a paradoxical effect that makes it
first appear as a stimulant (American heart association, 2015). The two faced nature is due to
ethanol the most active ingredient in alcohol. Alcohol slows down the nervous system by acting on
the brain s inhibitory neurotransmitter called gamma aminobutyric acid. Studies have shown
Bradycardia (slow or decreased heart rate) in people who consume too much alcohol (ehealthMe,
2015). Drinking alcohol can completely alter a person s concentration, mood, and coordination

A Critical Analysis of the Key National Security Issues
Faced in the Post Vietnam War Period There have been a lot of developments that happened during
the Vietnam War that concerns the key national security issues of the country. However, there are
an also a lot of significant changes that occurred after that historical event, that forever changed the
policy conceptualization and implementation of national and foreign related issues. The
administration of Richard Nixon was greatly affected by the Vietnam War. Due to the fact that the
US failed to win the war in a smooth way, Nixon tried to assess the things that went wrong in the
national security and foreign policies of his predecessors like Kennedy and Johnson. Henry

According to David Schmitz, Ford found himself caught in the middle of the intense debates
about post Vietnam international policy. On one side, conservatives dismissed detente as

prestige in the world (2011, p. 51). This entails that are blatantly expressing their disagreement
due to the lack of American Exceptionalism during the Nixon administration. Hence, this can also
be connected with George Kennan s views that the unrealistic expectations caused by American
Exceptionalism of the American people to the government will greatly affect the implementation
of national security policies. Finally, it can also be said that the administration of Jimmy Carter
triggered a lot of developments to the national security policy of the US. During his term,
negotiating the SALT II Treaty was seen as the primary way forward, rather than using military
intervention in areas of conflict, and American military capability was allowed to decline (Lock
Pullan 2005, p. 37). However, many critics consider Carter s national security policies as failure
because of the numerous unresolved issues that evidently affected the state of the US during his
term. Carter was also widely known for his critiques that are directed towards Nixon and Kissinger
s strategy of centralized power for decision making. Hence, his foreign policies depended on the

Research Proposal: Self Esteem Effects of Minors who Undergo Conversion Therapy
Matt Sklenka
Cleveland State University
Abstract Recently, conversion therapy has been shown to produce harmful effects in adults,
including decreased self esteem. This research proposal summarizes some of these findings,
identifies a gap in the research with minors, and addresses issues related to this gap. Furthermore, a
research design to examine the relationship between minors who undergo conversion therapy and
self esteem is explored and outlined.
Introduction
Conversion therapy consists of those treatments designed to change sexual orientation.
Most often, this is the result of an incongruence between an individual s sexuality and religious or
cultural beliefs. In 1973, the American Psychiatric Association removed homosexualityas a
pathological disorder from the DSM (Haldeman, 2001). However, over forty years later, conversion
therapy still continues. In 1998, the A.P.A. rejected the notion of therapies presuming that
homosexuality is a pathological illness or disorder (Haldeman, 2001). Furthermore, most people
who seek such treatments have been have been negatively impacted by their culture or societal
influences and that many emotional problems can result from practices such as conversion therapy
(Haldeman, 2001). The A.P.A. s 1997 stance on conversion therapy s that being Gay is not
pathological (Haldeman, 2001). The most generous success rates given by

Analysis Of Nathaniel Bacon s The Of The Rebellion
Historians decide what parts of history are important, and those that are not. Historiography is
how history is recorded, and it has a role in Bacon s Rebellion. Historians chose what was
important about it, and weaved it into a story. But, some facts may have been left out.
Depending on what story is chosen, who tells the story, when it is told, and which evidence is
selected to construct it, the historical account could have changed dramatically through
historian s interpretation. Through a compilation of reliable articles and facts, a story has been
woven together. You will hear about the character of Nathaniel Bacon, the events leading up to
the rebellion, the actual rebellion, and the aftermath of the rebellion. First off, in order to fully
understand Bacon s Rebellion, knowing the leader is a key component. Nathaniel Bacon was
born into a privileged family on January 2nd, 1647. Bacon had sufficient financial support to
receive a quality education. But Bacon s studies were not a top priority, resulting in his father
hiring a tutor and eventually he earned his MA. Bacon married Elizabeth Duke in 1670. Sir
Edward Duke, Elizabeth s father, strongly opposed their marriage, and disowned Elizabeth, as
well as refusing to aid the couple in any way. Perhaps Sir Edward Duke s opinion of Bacon was
justified, because he became involved in a fraudulent land scheme. Bacon lost his money in a bad
business deal, and relatives tried to help them out financially. In 1674 Bacon sailed

Horton Vs. California Case Essay

California On June 4th, 1990, Terry Brice Horton vs. California was a United States Supreme
Court case in which the Court held 7 2 that the Fourth Amendment does not prohibit warrantless
seizure of evidence, which is granted due to the plain view doctrine. The discovery of the
evidence does not have to be inadvertent, although that is a characteristic of most legitimate plain

enough of the robber s conversation to identify Horton s voice. His identification was partially
corroborated by a witness who saw the robbers leaving the scene and by evidence that Horton had
attended a coin show. Sergeant LaRault determined there was enough evidence to search Horton s
home, and obtained a warrant to do so. His affidavit for the search warrant described both the
weapons and the proceeds of the robbery, but the warrant only granted permission to look for the
stolen property. While searching Horton s house, Sergeant LaRault did not find the property, but he
did find an Uzi machine gun, a .38 caliber revolver, two stun guns, and a handcuff key, along with
other items linking Horton to the crime. The evidence was admitted into the trial, and Horton was

reincarnated to different life after bodily death. They believe that life cycle will happen until that
soul does actions to please the God. Hinduism believes the people life and fate are interconnected
with their previous life. Person s fate or events in their life depend on their actions of their

Reflection Of My Life With My Arms Extended
One Someone once told me what I see is darkness. They told me that is all I can see and possibly
all I will see. I have spent my life with my arms extended, always touching, always searching,
always feeling my surroundings, always trying to understand what I couldn t see. I have felt the
presence of my brothers and sisters, but they never seem to feel or see me. Their eyes are always
to the sky, as if expecting something to fall from the heavens. It matters not if they have sight.
They are blind. There was a time before this, but I can t recall anything but silence and darkness. It
s as if the first half of my life had been deleted. I remembered nothing, no sound, no scents, no
familiar touches that might have given something away about... Show more content on

Many questions ran through my head, Where am I going? , Who is this? , Why have you taken
me? , Am I going to die? . My stomach sank as the last question resonated inside me. Was I going
to die? I felt too young to die. What did I do to deserve death? A gruff voice alarmingly close to
my ear said, Hey, shut up. You re not going to die yet. You ll see where we re going soon, before
my mind could wander any further. Are you ? Yes, he answered aloud. The earthy scent of the
forest slowly transitioned into that of the city and the voice told me we were in front of a large
structure built for government hostages. I was a hostage? What the hell was going to happen to
me? The strong hands led me into the building, which from the sound of things, seemed to be
empty. Our footsteps echoed in the deserted lobby and down a wide hallway, until the hands
lead me carefully down several flights of stairs where they were stifled by concrete. The air was
musty and humid down here. We took a few more steps until a metal door opened noisily. The
hands pushed me into a confining box oh, that makes sense. It was a lift. The lift shifted, and I
began to feel woozy as it went down, down, down... It seemed to take ages until it finally stopped
and the metal doors once again opened noisily. I put my hands out instinctively until the man with
the strong hands put them back at my side and lead me down a narrow corridor. A door opened
heavily, and from

The Last Phase Of Our Project
The last phase of our project was at the end of each week did we reach our goal of 25 people
visiting our booth and having our overall goal of 100 people visiting our booths over the past
four week; which was met by having a total of 109 people visit our booths. The way we were
able to keep track of the number of people who came by our booths were the individual ribbons we
handed out; we would count how many we started out with before setting up the booths, then we
would count how many were left when we shut down the booths.
Throughout the month of April every Wednesday in the University Center starting 11:00am until
12:30pm we held a booth that was filled with information on the history of abuse and neglect and
what abuse and neglect are and what you can do to prevent it from happening. Each person was
responsible for gathering information on the topic and sending the information to Dawn so that she
can put it on the pamphlets that we gave out at every booth, we had a separate packet that gave the
definition of mandated reporting and who they are; what steps to take when placing a hotline call
including the national number, Missouri, and Illinois. We had another packet that listed facts and
statistics about the different types of abuse. We gave out individual ribbons and asked them to sign
our large ribbon.
Together as a group we would make ribbons, once we had all of our ribbons made we would
count the total amount of ribbons we had before we gave them away when our

The Components Of Mass Communication
For many years now, the task of creating a more stable and reliable form of communication for
sharing information with people as well as with the world is something that many people across the
globe have studied, redesigned, improved, and rebuilt. The spark of mass communication is all
thanks to one man named Alexander Graham Bell who invented the first telephone. Bell s invention
of the telephone has opened a multitude of opportunities that have extended the way we
communicate in the world today. Bell s invention went public on March 7, 1916, and many people
gathered to see a demonstration that would start a revolution of communication beyond even Bell s
imagination (A Rural Broadband...). That evenings demonstration made clear that the telephone
service was poised to revolutionize communications and unite every part of the country... (A Rural
Broadband...). Bell s invention was the first reliable, and cost effective way for communication
until just a few decades later when someone decided to take Bell s invention to the next level and
help to bring us public Internet. Just like Bell, AT T is determined to create the world s first truly
reliable and cost effective Internet connection for rural areas by revisiting an old concept that, at
the time, was proved not reliable. I believe that we can help to cut cost even more by creating a
partnership between the FCC and the DOE (Department of Energy). Using AT T s current plans, we
can partner with other companies and government

Response To Naturalism
Aquinas s Response to Naturalism
Introduction
In this paper, I will do three things: (1) summarize an overview of what naturalism is by detailing
its history and illustrating it with the views of characteristic thinkers, (2) explain what is known as
Aquinas s Thomist Law and finally (3) discuss whether or not Thomist Law commits the
naturalistic fallacy.
1 What Is Naturalism?
Naturalism can be best summed up as a philosophical methodology as opposed to doctrine that
abides by these three characteristics:
1. Philosophy should regard the methods of science quite seriously.
2. When a philosophical claim and a scientific claim of equal strength conflict with each other, the
scientific claim wins out.
3. Philosophical and scientific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The procreation and the education of offspring ought to be pursued.Ibid, 245.
3. Humans goods are those goods to which humans have natural inclinations (i.e. to know the truth
about God and the achievement of societal harmony).Ibid, 154.
2.2 Kinds of Law
There are four different kinds of law in Aquinas s moral framework. I described above, in detailing
the types of reasoning that exist in Aquinas s thought, the underlying mechanisms behind Natural
Law, which is just one strain of Thomist Law. Besides Natural Law, there is Eternal Law, Divine
Law, and Natural Law.
Eternal Law details the structure of the cosmos: it is concerned with the ineffable and intangible
divine qualities that transcend human experience and pervade throughout the universe.
Natural Law cooperates with Eternal Law, in that living by the Natural Law Aquinas s belief that
man ought to and is inclined toward pursuing good and avoiding evil confers participation in
Eternal Law and, hence, the divine.
Human Law is what dictates legal systems, and is entirely man made for the practical day to day
regulations of society. It is conventional and possesses no ontological meaning, but it can be just
by way of agreeing with Natural Law as its logical

Fear Of Madness In Hamlet
Madness, and fear of madness, are the driving factors behind the plot and character interactions
in the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare. By the end of the play, almost every main character
ends up dead as a result of the hysteria or indecisiveness of other characters. As more and more
tragic events and countless deaths occur, each character is forced to find a coping mechanism.
Some succumb to the pressure, like Ophelia, who goes mad and drowns after her father dies, but
others attempt to hide the effect the pressure has on them, like King Claudius. A deeper
examination of Claudius s emotions and behaviors reveal that his psychological state is in truth
severely damaged and has taken a toll on his actions.
After killing his brother, King ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He diagnoses this disease as Hamlet and attempts to cure himself by sending the Prince to
execution in England. ... The King is very violently affected by this play (Alexander). Unable to
deal with his own guilt and grief after murdering his brother, Claudius instead finds a scapegoat
to convince himself he has done nothing wrong. He accuses Hamlet of being mad, yet there is
madness that lies within himself. The burden of holding in the horrible action he has committed
has begun to take a toll on his well being, and the audience is finally given a glimpse into
Claudius s emotions after The Murder of Gonzago, when he attempts to pray: Pray can I not.
Though inclination be as sharp as will, my stronger guilt defeats my strong intent (3.3.42 44). The
fact that there is nothing Claudius can ever do to truly make up for what he has done finally
catches up to him, but he instead ends up using this as motivation for pursuing Hamlet s murder.
The more Hamlet pushes his buttons, the more Claudius increasingly responds with coercion and
eventually force (Keener). Every move Hamlet makes serves to convince Claudius that he is mad
and a threat that needs controlling. Claudius convinces others around him that stopping Hamlet s
madness is for the safety of the people, yet it is mainly

through one of their distributors. And after a series of investigation, and before announce the final
products quality result, Maple Leaf was able to give the biggest attention on the potential crisis.
Also, in order to avoid the helpless situation, and to minimize the risk to consumers and company
due to the crisis, Maple Leaf had already worked internally to prepare and plan for the possibility
of a recall. Identifying the crisis early enough and preparing an emergency plan can make a strong

Although egoism is not approved of in the society we live in, it is not an unacceptable doing for Prometheus to call holy. Howard Roark, one of Ayn Rand s characters in The Fountainhead, voiced similar opinions in his speech, The Soul of an Individualist. Egoismis simply valuing one s own work and ideas, so Prometheus is certainly and egoist, but egoism can be great in moderation. According to Howard Roark s speech, The Soul of an Individualist, To think, to feel, to judge, to act are functions of the ego. However, in moderation, egoism can be fantastically useful for thinking about and developing new things. In Roark s speech, The Soul of an Individualist, Roark states that No creator was prompted by a desire to serve his brothers, for his brothers rejected the gift he offered and that gift destroyed the slothful routine of their lives. His truth was his only motive. Because the creator s truth was his only motive, he was only fueled to create by his own ego and his pride in what he could conceive on his own. In 2013 a guy named Edward Snowden released government files that prove that the government has a file for every cell phone in America. And just like Edward Snowden I do strongly believe that the government should not have made the decision of recording private information without notifying us, the citizens. • 9. Political Socialization Essay Political socialization is a concept that shows the development of children and adolescents who attain political cognition, attitudes, and behaviors. Political socialization routinely begins in children. There are multiple factors that influence the political socialization of citizens. Research theorizes that familyand school teachers are the most influential. Recent research also states that media plays an important role on influence as well. Everything a child does from birth to around the adolescent age is more than likely taught through family. As a child they tend to look up to who run their household. Certain views, attitudes, and behaviors are mimicked because that is the only platform that is being viewed at the time. Families tend to have an impact on children unintentionally by acting an example for children. It is often that children end up with the same political views as the parents of that household. Parents do not flat out talk to children about politics directly, but the occasional remarks that are made often have serious impact. Family beliefs are a factor in the party identification such as lifelong republican or lifelong democrat. Studies show that children have the same party identification as their parents even if they have different views from them. The family may be losing it accreditation in socialization, but it is still a big factor. By an early age political symbols are understood. People protested in the streets of Ferguson and were met with heavily armed, ordinary policeman who resembled the military instead. Countless of pictures were posted on social media and the issue of Police Militarization rekindled. Every picture captured the same message and was a rude awakening of this misuse in power. This misuse of power was illustrated with guns being pointed at civilians, primarily African Americans, who posed no threat. This illustrates the unnecessary ways in which standard policemen are going about confronting problems. Here we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We see that police militarization has led police to take on a soldier based mentality, as dressing the part is internalized in their heads that leads them to doing or acting the part. In the pictures that came out of the Ferguson police surrounding unarmed African Americans and pointing their guns at them, this tactic is not even used that way in the military. The military follows a strict order of escalation of force meaning the only time you are going to point a weapon at someone is when you are going to pull the trigger. But we see that in Ferguson, policemen all over were pointing their guns at people who did not even pose a threat. The police need to apply less of this force and the police department and the public should monitor this use of power and this mentality. This may start by changing police training in ways that teach the application of less force and separates the distinction between policemen and the military. Furthermore, there are many problems associated with militarizing our police that we need to recognize and address. Police militarization started with the intent of combating terrorism but has grown to unnecessary uses and applications. • 13. Thesis Statement On Civic Spaces Hrushita Davey PA101614 Masters in Architecture Thesis Proposal December 2015 Guided by: Professor Jigna Desai Abstract My point of departure for this thesis is that in many of our post industrial cities, the civic realm has increasingly shrunk and the private realm has continuously expanded and civic spaces are arguably more important today than ever. Most people are found using the unplanned public spaces rather than the planned public spaces. The issue is approached by focusing on a middle ground between urban planning and design of individual buildings. The intent is to design an insertion that responds to specific features of the existing urban structure and the regulatory framework currently in place. Here the juxtaposition of the old and new becomes the visible passage of time. The re appropriation of old forms includes what maybe called the neo vernacular as one mode of intellectual justification for architecture in our times. This proposition is an attempt to demonstrate a continuous interface between public and private spaces and between access networks and inhabitable spaces. He was a soldier who arduously worked to climb through the ranks, working through a civil war to become emperor. He is most famous for establishing a new capital where Byzantium once was, and named the new establishment Constantinople. However, Constantine is most famous for becoming Roman Emperor who converted to Christianityin his forties. His mother, Helen, was a Christian and ultimately decided to convert after believing that the Christian god had helped him in his success though the war. He enacted the Edict of Milan in the third century with his co emperor Licinius, and officially declared Christianity legal. This document was one of the most significant and important writings of the time because it declares that Christians could freely practice religion. This document ultimately opened up many windows and opportunities for people to openly practice Christianity and prohibited people being subject to persecution. When Constantine converted, he made the religion much more known and a religion of the powerful. This made Christianity the official religion of the empire. Many Christians opted for pacifism and martyrdom as a way to cope with their persecutors, but now Christians had an access to armies, swords, and an endless supply of resources. Although the trainrolled down a very slight (~1 2%) incline, the devastation that followed was more representative of a bomb being dropped on the town rather than a rail accident. What prevents someone from stealing or releasing chlorine gas when a train, like the one in Lac Megantic, is left running and unattended? Terrorists learned how to fly passenger aircraft so it isn t beyond the realm of possibility that they are learning how to operate freight trains. This may seem insignificant, but when we consider that his duty day was primarily at night and he was operating the train alone, these would be considered contributing, but not causal, factors resulting in the accident. By Steven McManus Jul 15, 2009 Is being an expat all about attitude, and if so, does this have an immense influence on expat children and how they perceive their situation in this new environment? After much research on the topic there were a few points that stood out for me on how to be an expat child these are discussed below: 1. Attitude Your attitude as the adult and parent is going to greatly influence how your children settle in the country and accept the move. We can decide whether to be positive or negative about becoming expats. The more positive parent results in a well adjusted child who looks at the glass half full, finds the positive in every situation and tries to adjust as much as you do. Trudie says: We saw this move as a wonderful opportunity to expose our children to the world and maybe broaden their horizons. Shirley says: I hated where we moved to and people were not as friendly as I thought they would be and it was hard and lonely. I had to work hard to change, but with a positive attitude, my children have become so much happier. 2. Being Open minded: In every case of becoming an expat, the circumstances you are going to experience are different. If you have not been brought up in the culture it is going to be an adjustment. Parents need to be open minded and to allow their children to do the same. Monique says: Being an expat parent really depends on a lot of things, e.g. where you are ... • 24. Essay about William Butler Yeats William Butler Yeats. William Butler Yeats was the major figure in the cultural revolution which developed from the strong nationalistic movement at the end of the 19th century. He dominated the writings of a generation. He established forms and themes which came to be considered as the norms for writers of his generation. Yeats was a confessional poet that is to say, that he wrote his poetry directly from his own experiences. He was an idealist, with a purpose. This was to create Art for his own people the Irish. But in so doing, he experienced considerable frustration and disillusionment. The tension between this ideal, and the reality is the basis of much of his writing. In 1971 (when Turkmenistan was a part of Soviet Union) a group of Soviet geologists and engineers found a huge reservoir of natural gas, which was later found to be fifth largest in the world. A drilling rig was setup to extract it. Unfortunately, due to primitive technology survey of the ground was not proper. Abstract In Turkmenistan, there is a burning crater named as DOOR TO HELL. In 1971 some Soviet geologists and engineers had found one of the largest reservoir of natural gas. They set up a rig and started extracting it. Unfortunately the ground under the rig collapsed leaving a huge 200 meter wide crater. From it methane gas started leaking. Fearing the pollution in local area and dangers to local population they decided to burn it. According to them it could be burned within a few days but it is still burning. In 2010 President of Turkmenistan ordered to close it but due to lack of facilities it could not been done. In 2013 adventurer and explorer George Kourounis got the permission to go inside the crater. After a brief study of this, need of further research was found. Seismic survey (3d or 4d if possible) should be done to predict the amount of natural gas left in the reservoir. • 30. The Works Of Haydn And Mozart Haydn and Mozart are often recognised as the two composers who were responsible for bringing Viennese Classicism to its greatest height. In the public eye, these two great composers could not be more different, whether it is in terms of their characters or values. This essay sets out to explore the similarities and differences in the early lives of these two gifted individuals, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozartand (Franz) Joseph Haydn, through their backgrounds and music education. Mozart, who was born in 1756 in Salzburg, was Haydn s junior by twenty four years. By the time he was born, his father, Leopold Mozart, was already a widely known composer and violinist. All in all, Mozart grew up in a family of fairly good standing and this enabled him to blend in with the aristocrats and the nobility comfortably and effortlessly. On the other hand, Haydn was born in a small town call Rohrau. His father, Mathias Haydn, is a wheelwright, while his mother, Maria Koller, was a cook for the Lords of the village before marriage. Although the young Haydn s standard of living may not be comparable to that of Mozart s, Haydn did not live in extreme poverty. Haydn s father and grandfather were both the magistrate in the village and the preserved bills showed that Mathias were given plenty of work and was not paid badly. • 31. Dangers Of Deforestation Why Deforestation Should Stop and How It Affects the Environment? Today one of the biggest ecological problems is Deforestation. For instance, every year the rainforests are slowly disappearing due to deforestation which is the permanent clearing of earth s forests on a massive scale, often resulting in damage to the quality of the land in order to make the land available for other uses. This can be done legally and illegally. There are many reasons why trees are remove from a forest. Some of these reasons are to cover needs or to make a profit. However, the biggest causes of deforestation are agricultural, logging operations and growth of urban zones. Often, small farmers will clear a few acres by cutting down trees and burning them in a process known as slash and burn agriculture. Some are caused by a combination of human and natural factors like wildfires and subsequent overgrazing, which may prevent the growth of young trees. Logging operations, which provide the world s wood and paper products, also cut countless trees each year. Loggers, some of them acting illegally, also build roads to access more remote forests which leads to further deforestation. Forests still cover about 30 percent of the world s land area and extend throughout half the size of most countries but, many are lost each year (Live Science). Research Proposal: Self Esteem Effects of Minors who Undergo Conversion Therapy Matt Sklenka Cleveland State University Abstract Recently, conversion therapy has been shown to produce harmful effects in adults, including decreased self esteem. This research proposal summarizes some of these findings, identifies a gap in the research with minors, and addresses issues related to this gap. Furthermore, a research design to examine the relationship between minors who undergo conversion therapy and self esteem is explored and outlined. Introduction Conversion therapy consists of those treatments designed to change sexual orientation. Most often, this is the result of an incongruence between an individual s sexuality and religious or cultural beliefs. In 1973, the American Psychiatric Association removed homosexualityas a pathological disorder from the DSM (Haldeman, 2001). However, over forty years later, conversion therapy still continues. In 1998, the A.P.A. rejected the notion of therapies presuming that homosexuality is a pathological illness or disorder (Haldeman, 2001). Furthermore, most people who seek such treatments have been have been negatively impacted by their culture or societal influences and that many emotional problems can result from practices such as conversion therapy (Haldeman, 2001). I felt too young to die. What did I do to deserve death? A gruff voice alarmingly close to my ear said, Hey, shut up. You re not going to die yet. You ll see where we re going soon, before my mind could wander any further. Are you ? Yes, he answered aloud. The earthy scent of the forest slowly transitioned into that of the city and the voice told me we were in front of a large structure built for government hostages. I was a hostage? What the hell was going to happen to me? The strong hands led me into the building, which from the sound of things, seemed to be empty. Our footsteps echoed in the deserted lobby and down a wide hallway, until the hands lead me carefully down several flights of stairs where they were stifled by concrete. The air was musty and humid down here. We took a few more steps until a metal door opened noisily. The hands pushed me into a confining box oh, that makes sense. It was a lift. The lift shifted, and I began to feel woozy as it went down, down, down... It seemed to take ages until it finally stopped and the metal doors once again opened noisily. I put my hands out instinctively until the man with the strong hands put them back at my side and lead me down a narrow corridor. A door opened heavily, and from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Last Phase Of Our Project The last phase of our project was at the end of each week did we reach our goal of 25 people visiting our booth and having our overall goal of 100 people visiting our booths over the past four week; which was met by having a total of 109 people visit our booths. The way we were able to keep track of the number of people who came by our booths were the individual ribbons we handed out; we would count how many we started out with before setting up the booths, then we would count how many were left when we shut down the booths. Throughout the month of April every Wednesday in the University Center starting 11:00am until 12:30pm we held a booth that was filled with information on the history of abuse and neglect and what abuse and neglect are and what you can do to prevent it from happening. Each person was responsible for gathering information on the topic and sending the information to Dawn so that she can put it on the pamphlets that we gave out at every booth, we had a separate packet that gave the definition of mandated reporting and who they are; what steps to take when placing a hotline call including the national number, Missouri, and Illinois. We had another packet that listed facts and statistics about the different types of abuse. We gave out individual ribbons and asked them to sign our large ribbon. Together as a group we would make ribbons, once we had all of our ribbons made we would count the total amount of ribbons we had before we gave them away when our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. The Components Of Mass Communication For many years now, the task of creating a more stable and reliable form of communication for sharing information with people as well as with the world is something that many people across the globe have studied, redesigned, improved, and rebuilt. The spark of mass communication is all thanks to one man named Alexander Graham Bell who invented the first telephone. Bell s invention of the telephone has opened a multitude of opportunities that have extended the way we communicate in the world today. Bell s invention went public on March 7, 1916, and many people gathered to see a demonstration that would start a revolution of communication beyond even Bell s imagination (A Rural Broadband...). That evenings demonstration made clear that the telephone service was poised to revolutionize communications and unite every part of the country... (A Rural Broadband...). Bell s invention was the first reliable, and cost effective way for communication until just a few decades later when someone decided to take Bell s invention to the next level and help to bring us public Internet. Just like Bell, AT T is determined to create the world s first truly reliable and cost effective Internet connection for rural areas by revisiting an old concept that, at the time, was proved not reliable. I believe that we can help to cut cost even more by creating a partnership between the FCC and the DOE (Department of Energy). Using AT T s current plans, we can partner with other companies and government ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Response To Naturalism Aquinas s Response to Naturalism Introduction In this paper, I will do three things: (1) summarize an overview of what naturalism is by detailing its history and illustrating it with the views of characteristic thinkers, (2) explain what is known as Aquinas s Thomist Law and finally (3) discuss whether or not Thomist Law commits the naturalistic fallacy. 1 What Is Naturalism? Naturalism can be best summed up as a philosophical methodology as opposed to doctrine that abides by these three characteristics: 1. Philosophy should regard the methods of science quite seriously. 2. When a philosophical claim and a scientific claim of equal strength conflict with each other, the scientific claim wins out. 3. Philosophical and scientific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The procreation and the education of offspring ought to be pursued.Ibid, 245. 3. Humans goods are those goods to which humans have natural inclinations (i.e. to know the truth about God and the achievement of societal harmony).Ibid, 154. 2.2 Kinds of Law There are four different kinds of law in Aquinas s moral framework. I described above, in detailing the types of reasoning that exist in Aquinas s thought, the underlying mechanisms behind Natural Law, which is just one strain of Thomist Law. Besides Natural Law, there is Eternal Law, Divine Law, and Natural Law. Eternal Law details the structure of the cosmos: it is concerned with the ineffable and intangible divine qualities that transcend human experience and pervade throughout the universe. Natural Law cooperates with Eternal Law, in that living by the Natural Law Aquinas s belief that man ought to and is inclined toward pursuing good and avoiding evil confers participation in Eternal Law and, hence, the divine. Human Law is what dictates legal systems, and is entirely man made for the practical day to day regulations of society. It is conventional and possesses no ontological meaning, but it can be just

  • 48. Fear Of Madness In Hamlet Madness, and fear of madness, are the driving factors behind the plot and character interactions in the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare. By the end of the play, almost every main character ends up dead as a result of the hysteria or indecisiveness of other characters. As more and more tragic events and countless deaths occur, each character is forced to find a coping mechanism. Some succumb to the pressure, like Ophelia, who goes mad and drowns after her father dies, but others attempt to hide the effect the pressure has on them, like King Claudius. A deeper examination of Claudius s emotions and behaviors reveal that his psychological state is in truth severely damaged and has taken a toll on his actions. After killing his brother, King ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He diagnoses this disease as Hamlet and attempts to cure himself by sending the Prince to execution in England. ... The King is very violently affected by this play (Alexander). Unable to deal with his own guilt and grief after murdering his brother, Claudius instead finds a scapegoat to convince himself he has done nothing wrong. He accuses Hamlet of being mad, yet there is madness that lies within himself. The burden of holding in the horrible action he has committed has begun to take a toll on his well being, and the audience is finally given a glimpse into Claudius s emotions after The Murder of Gonzago, when he attempts to pray: Pray can I not. Though inclination be as sharp as will, my stronger guilt defeats my strong intent (3.3.42 44). The fact that there is nothing Claudius can ever do to truly make up for what he has done finally catches up to him, but he instead ends up using this as motivation for pursuing Hamlet s murder. The more Hamlet pushes his buttons, the more Claudius increasingly responds with coercion and eventually force (Keener). Every move Hamlet makes serves to convince Claudius that he is mad and a threat that needs controlling. Claudius convinces others around him that stopping Hamlet s madness is for the safety of the people, yet it is mainly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
