Tarasoff versus Regents of the University of California (1974) a court case which Tatiana Tarasoff, a
University of California Berkeley s student was killed. Prosenjit Poddar pursued Tatiana while she
was alone in her home. He started the aggression in her home and chased into the street and stabbed
her seventeen times causing her death. Previously he described his intentions and depression when he
asked Dr. Laurence Moore at Berkeley medical center. The diagnosed of paranoid schizophrenia was
presented by the doctor. Dr. Moore felt the risk against Tarasoff and shared the situation with two
other doctors and determined that Poddar should be committed to a psychiatric hospital and to the
police. Poddar was release after he promised to stay away from her. She never received any alert about
her risks by the doctor or pilice. Poddar killed her on the night of October 27, 1969. During the
criminal trial he pleaded not guilty because of his insanity. His prior evaluation to the murder
presented evidence that Poddar was no guilty because of his mental state because he was insane and
demonstrated a paranoid schizophrenia. He came back to India and had a normal life. Tarasoff s
family sued the doctors and police. The charges against the police were dropped because the police
were immune to the suit. It was consider that the psychiatrics failed in their duty to warn and protect
Tatiana.

ideas in only five lines. These ideas are birth, death, and war. Jarrell is able to accomplish a lot in this
short poem by using diction and syntax such as metaphor and figurative language. The title of the
poem automatically shifts the reader s mind to expect a poem about war and death. However, after
reading the title and seeing how clear it is, when taken literally, line one of the poem is very
confusing. If we try to understand the poem at a basic literal level, here s what s happening: There is a

The speaker s life before war is left far below and even feels like an illusion. Like a dream, it is gone.
When the speaker woke to black flak and the nightmare fighters , he woke up to his worst nightmare,
enemy fighters approaching the bomber. If we take a close look at lines three and four together, there
is a stark contrast. Line three is very peaceful and serene, the words dream , life , and earth usually
have positive connotations; while line four is certain death, with words like nightmare and black flak .
The last line of the poem is very straightforward, and is almost prose. It tells us exactly what we need
to know. When the bomber got back to the base, they cleaned the speakers remains out of the turret
with a hose. If we continue the metaphor of the bomber being the mother, we can conclude that the

before daybreak we prepared for battle. I had all those feelings rushing back to me; scared, anxious,
excited, and nervous. Once we felt we were ready we all quickly headed for our posts. There was no
good way to fight a battle in these trenches. Whoever got chosen to attempt an attack was almost
surely dead as soon as the orders were sent. Running across no man s land was one of the most
treacherous tasks we ever had. I have only been sent out twice, luckily both times I have been able to
retreat back to our trenches safely after our job was done. Both sides ran at each other like this all day
during battles. As you can tell this hardly lead to any good as hundreds died and only feet were gained
if you were lucky. Today was no different, we engaged in this same type of warfare for hours. I saw
fellow soldiers die attempting to cross to the German s side, and I even personally pulled the trigger

The first thing I noticed about Kate Chopin s The Storm, is that it is utterly dripping with sexual
imagery and symbolism. Our heroine, if you will, seems to be a woman with normally restrained
passions and a well defined sense of propriety, who finds herself in a situation that tears down her
restraint and reveals the vixen within. I wonder if it was intentional that the name Calixta makes me

It s no secret that storms bring a unique energy, something that is almost primal in nature. Animals
react to coming storms because of this energy, I once had a cat who would pounce all over the house
in the hours before a storm arrived, when the storm hit, he would sprint from room to room, his tail
bushed out like a bottle brush and his pupils so large you couldn t see the iris. As the storm builds in
its fervor and ferocity, tension and passion build between Calixta and Alcée to match. It begins with
the gusts of wind that threatened to snatch away the clothing that was outside, hence Alcée grabbing

entrance, Chopin describes Calixta s bedroom. The fact that it adjoins the room they re in is
completely unnecessary, unless there s a reason for the reader to be aware of the bedroom. As the
storm rolls on, Calixta goes to the window where she stands when the lightning bolt strikes a tree in
