In the Iliad, a hero must be skilled in both fighting and speaking. Richard Martin notes that heroic
orators are performers who engage in formal speech acts that generally fall into genres of prayer,
lament, supplication, commanding, insulting, and remembering the past.7 Friedrich and Redfield
have expanded on the complexity of language in Homeric epic, arguing that the poet constructs
the style of speaking of a few individual characters to be different from that of other characters.89
Akhilleus speeches exhibit a particular oratory style, often shifting between present and past,
realism and imagination. This is shown in his answer to Odysseus in book 9: he employs a simile

Essay about Women and Buddhism
Women and Buddhism
As a religion, Buddhism has a great impact on women, especially Asian women. Theravadan
Buddhism, which is the early stage of Buddhism, depreciates women by a theory called Five
Blocks . However, Buddhism started to affect women in a positive way when Buddha raised
several doctrines and explained the theory in a more proper way.
The Five Blocks theory can be summarized as women can t achieve enlightenment because
women are weak, jealous, annoying, desiring and having more affairs in the world. This theory
makes women inferior to men for a long time. Accordingly women are seen as a weaker sex,
cannot make a decision on their own, and they are dependent beings. As commodity, they must be
taken care of by their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chinese women formed their own Bhikkhuni group, only for and controlled by women. Emperor
Wuzetian even made use of Buddhism to help her being the first and only female emperor in
Chinese history. (Lin, 1193)
The change in Buddhism significantly helps women: women are no longer appendants, burden of
family or bearing tools; women have more freedom than before; women start to have their own
power and right. However, rather than saying Buddhism recognized women, I would prefer to say
Buddhism recognized Equality . Buddha considers everything in the world are equal, then men and
women are equal; Buddha considers men and women have the equal responsibility in the family,
then women act as wife more than bearing tools; Buddha considers men and women are equally
useful to society, then women can have more right and power than before. Buddha gave women an
opportunity to change their life; women themselves grasped the chance and finally get the respect
they deserved.

supervisor.
FIRES
A fire is one of the most common safety hazards. These are the following actions everyone
should take to prevent a fire from occurring and what to do if one occurs. o Take steps to prevent
and reduce the impact of fire on the workplace and carry out a fire risk assessment of the
workplace. o Identify the significant findings of the risk assessment and the details of anyone who
might be especially at risk in case of fire (these must be recorded if more than five employees). o

The Dependence of Our Society on Technology
During the past two decades technology has seen an explosive progression. In this time we have
come from very few people having personal computers, let alone those that were able to connect to
the internet to having the equivalent of multiple of these machine in our pockets connected to the
internet at all times. In today s society many people opt to use their mobile deviceover a traditional
computer and these devices make it rather appealing and easy to do so. With applications that
are built to make life easier, games to waste a few minutes, movies and music at the touch of a
finger who wouldn t chose this over the alternative! The problem is when we become too
dependent on these devices. Do we really need to be connected twenty four hours a day? Is this
technology restricting our ability to be productive without it? Can the users succeed in everyday
activities like traveling without these devices? This is a very new topic for argument but one
that needs to be thought about and analyzed. What society must realize is that we are becoming
too dependent on these devices and need to make reasonable concessions or preparations in the
case of a failure. When we take a look at the uses of these devices we will find that they have an
absolute plethora of uses. Smart phones can be used for the original use of making phones calls,
but that is really the simplest use of the device. We can actually use these devices to replace GPS
systems and aid in navigation, play video games,

The Explorer Poem Analysis
The Explorer was written during the civil rights movement when Brooks started to focus on writing
for the black community. Through the blood, sweat, and sacrifice her community experiences every
day, she is inspired to write this particular piece to show that African Americans, although are
scared, will keep fighting and searching for their utopia. Starting from stanza one, the word frayed
stands out the most. Repeated twice, it immediately tells the reader that the situation is not that of
hope and is life changing to the main character. Still spot also references that the main character is
looking for a quiet setting. The theme of quiet and peace is renounced in stanza two as words
such as velvet peace and willy hush also go along with the peace and quiet theme. Now, the reader
gains a better sense of the financial condition of the main character. Tatters makes the reader think
that the main character is poor and financially challenged, and knowing Brooks purpose of the
poem is about revitalizing hope for the black community, the main character is most likely black
male. Moreover, Brooks inserts a metaphor that comprises most of the stanza and ultimately depicts
that the character in the poem is trying to find peace and quiet both within a house and his mind
(Poem 3). Next in stanza three, the main purpose of this stanza is to describe what exactly is
happening to the main character. Tipping down the scrambled halls reveals that the main character
does not

The Muslim Mosque, A Hindu Temple Of The Sun, Masses Of...
For as long as the earth has circled the sun, masses of men have continued to rise and lower
themselves dutifully towards sky and towards earth. Lips have continued to eloquently part,
countenancing sounds that spill out in a fluent mГ©lange of euphoric expressions and sorrows.
Pages have continued to sound as countless, weathered finger tips root through those same
yellowing linen books that have procured an aroma of a school house touched by a familiar
vanillin scent. Vibrations of beating hearts have continued to thrive as the mass have drawn
nearer to the parables with which they align their moral compass . And despite all this time, all
masses have continued to look to their opus from which they draw their mirages of the world.
Despite all hardships, they continue to look to author who asks from them, simply one thing:
simply compassion. In this house of worship, A Muslim mosque, a Catholic church, a Jewish
temple, a Hindu mandir, or perhaps something entirely different, one can find man s similarity
through all his differences. The one aspect across all borders of religion, regality, and country that
unites man is compassion. Compassion is the want of health for a fellow man, the want and, better
yet, the desire for benevolence. Compassion is the understanding of the struggle a fellow mortal
faces as he stumbles blindly in search of enlightenment. Compassion is caring. And, we have all
been bred to care. We care about man, because fundamentally, we are all the same

Smoking is Harmful and Dangerous
Smoking is harmful and dangerous for American University in Cairo (AUC) students. Worldwide,
tobacco use causes more than 5 million deaths per year ( Fast Facts ) and this is a large number
of smokers that should be decreased. In Egypt, there are 34, 000 deaths each year due smoking,
according to the article Smokingin Egypt | Egypt Independent . However, the number of smokers
in Egypt is increasing every day and especially among youth. AUC took a first step to protect its
students from this danger by banning indoor smoking. AUC banned smoking10 feet from
classrooms to maintain a healthier environment .However, it did not decrease the number of
smokers on campus so AUC should ban smoking on campus. This essay will prove that smoking
should be banned on the AUC campus for several reasons. Firstly, the number of smoking youth is
increasing every day because Egypt is a smoking culture and they observe their parents smoking
with few changes in health. Secondly, AUC should try to provide a healthier environment for the
students and the working faculty because it is its responsibility. Thirdly, ban on smoking will set an
example in Egypt to quit smoking and prevent others from this dangerous habit. Finally, AUC
students are role models for the Egyptian people so they should become healthier to be more
productive.
According to the statistics from the state run Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics,
there are about 13 million smokers now in Egypt ( Smoking in Egypt

Chicka Boom Boom
Book
The book I selected was Chicka Chicka Boom Boom written by Bill Martin Jr. and John
Archambault and illustrations by Lois Ehlert. The informational book was published in 1989. It
is an ABC basic concept book with funny poetry. The book is an alphabet rhyme/chant that
narrates what happens when the letters try to climb a coconut tree. The recommended grade level
for this is the book is for 3 years old to 6 years old ( Chicka, n.d.) Reading Chicka Chicka Boom
Boom supports the relationship between oral language and literacy development for preschool
children through new vocabulary development. It gives children opportunities to learn new words

Although by the end of the nineteenth century China s population has reached millions, most
Chinese peasants had never encountered foreigners or Western missionaries. Nevertheless, the
Boxers held a strong belief that foreigners and Christian missionaries were responsible for the
breakdown in the fabric of simple Chinese peasant society and they dishonored their traditional
spiritual and community. Because the missionaries are protected by the flag and Treaty of
Tientsin, they have the right to rent and buy land to build churches and allowing them to move
freely in China. (Hsu, 388). The missionaries also infuriated the Boxers because they just weren t
spreading Christianity but reject Confucian. The converts failure to kowtow to the idols, to
worship Confucius and ancestor, and to participate in local festivals honoring the spirits greatly
irritated the gentry. (Hsu, 388). The Boxers believed that the central government had failed to
tackle the issue of village politics and moral issues. For example, there were two natural
calamities occurring at that time along with famine after the Taiping era such as a flood and a
drought. Furthermore, the Boxers attributed China s natural disasters such as flood, drought and
famine to the corruption of Christianity. Drought followed the great flood of the Yellow River,
leaving millions of starving and desperate peasants. The Boxer is small gathering force of peasants

Social And Social Order In Ancient Roman Society
Social Order: In Roman culture, the society was based on heredity, property, wealth, citizenship
and freedom. Roman society was also patriarchal, where it heavily focused more on the men
than women. Women were expected to produce male heirs and look after the cleaning and
maintenance of the houses they lived in, other than that, they had less independence than men
did. Your status in the world is very important. There were different class ranks which
represented a certain group of people. These classes often interacted with each other. These
classes include Slaves, Freemen, Soldiers, Equestrians, Senators, the Nobility, and the Emperor.
These class systems were heavily enforced under the law. The laws even governed what each
class wore for clothing. For example, the Emperor was the only one allowed to wear a purple
toga. Senators were allowed to wear a white toga with a broad purple stripe along the edge, and
horse riders wore togas with a narrow purple stripe. In Roman society, there was also a system of
patronage. Members of the upper class would offer protection and freedom to freedmen and
plebeians, the working class, if they became their cliens , also known as clients. Freed slaves often
became cliens to their former owners. Patronage can include money, food, or legal help. In return,
the upper classmen gained respect and political favors. Roman generals who conquered lands

The Anatomy And Pathophysiology And Treatment Of...
Introduction
Degenerative disorder is a condition that leads to progressive loss of function. Osteoarthritis is the
most common form of degenerative disease and its prevalence is significantly increasing.
According to Block and Scanzello (2016) says in next 2030, there will be 67 million people
affected with osteoarthritis, as the global population age in united states. This topic has been
chosen for discussion because population ages are increasing and osteoarthritis negatively impact
onto their daily activities and social life. So, this discussion will be focusing on the anatomy and the
pathophysiology and treatment of osteoarthritis and also how it will impact onto their daily life.
This discussion will further highlight on how to assist patient with the degenerative disorder; to
achieve the maximum level of independency with education and preventive measure, as it is
essential with the pharmacological, non pharmacological and surgical treatment.
Definition of degenerative disease
Osteoarthritis is a progressive disease of the joint, representing failed repair of the joint damage that
resulted from intra articular stresses. Intra articular stresses maybe initiated by abnormalities in
articular cartilage, sub chondral bone, ligaments, menisci, peri articular muscles, peripheral nervous
and synovium. Ultimately, this result in the break down in the cartilage and bone, leads to the
symptoms of pain, stiffness, crepitus and functional disability. As a disease, it is

Logical vs. Physical Network Design
Logical vs. Physical Network Design The typical Top Down approach to network design uses a
systematic method to plan, design, and implement a new network. Generally, the Top Down
methodology involves analysis of the business requirements and goals, development of the logical
design based on such goals, development of the physical design, and a phase for testing,
optimizing, and documenting the network design. This paper focuses on the activities performed
to create a logical design of a network and then goes on to explain how the physical design is
created.

Figure 1. A three layered hierarchal design model
Physical Network Design Whereas the logical design of the network most accurately reflects the
needs of the business by depicting network structure with regards to the organizational units and
requirements, the physical design is more concerned with distance, cabling, and connectivity issues.
Generally, a physical network is tied very closely with the building infrastructure and floor plan. It
depicts the physical connections of the devices and no other relationships among them. In contrast,
the logical network establishes the boundaries of subnets as a concept, not a physical connection,
using switching and VLAN techniques. The physical network design would normally follow the
logical design in a typical top down approach. The decisions made during the physical design of the
network involve the implementation suggestions of specific equipment and technology. One such
choice is the overall LAN technology such as Ethernet, FDDI, or Token Ring. The topology chosen
in the logical design usually makes this decision apparent. Also, the determination of devices such
as whether to use hubs or routers is made, how many are required, how many

but we can go one step further. What if we put those smiling, happy, well dressed couples down,

odd, since the Italian government, which acts from the white perspective, would warn people

A Note on Fuel Hedging in the Airline Industry
Fuel hedging in the airline industry Introduction Hedging can be defined as a risk management
mechanism or strategy which is used to prevent the chances of incurring losses which arise as a
result of fall in prices commodities or currencies. It is a technique which is majorly used by the
investors in protecting their capital against the effects of the economic situations such as
inflation whereby the investors invests in the high yield financial instruments or take a position
to cushion them against such effects (Investopedia, 2012). From its definition it can be noticed
that hedging is a strategy employed by companies in an effort to safeguard their economic
position and to prevent the company from the losses which are associated with the unforeseen
risks. Companies can hedge against risks which are associated with losses by taking control of
their future purchases. The commodity prices vary in different markets and are caused or
influenced by different economic factors. Some commodities are very scarce and with the
increased depletion subject to the global demand in different foreign markets, the prices are set to
be hiked in response to the established demand which positions the companies that use those
particular commodities to have cash flow problems. Pricing of commodities are arrived at
basically from the forces of demand and supply, a decrease in supply of a basic commodity or a
commodity with a high utility value causes the demand to rise suddenly. There are

Will Rogers Essay
Will Rogers
Not many people remember Will Rogers, but in the 1930 s he was the most well known man in
America more popular than Shirley Temple. He was a simple cowpoke who entertained people
with his rope tricks and sly political observations. He also wrote a widely read newspaper
column and appeared on the raido every week. I supose he is alot like Bill Cosby is today:
beloved for his down to earth style of humor. But that quot;aww, shucks quot; attitude hid a brilliant
mind. Furthermore, Will Rogers was more than just a comedian; he was a man of character.
Throughout his life, he exhibited the qualities of humility, fairness, generosity, and loyalty witch

Will would also get straight to the heart of the matter, letting the American people know that he

As you can see, Will understood people. In fact,he used to say, quot;I never met a man I didn t

Essay about Problems with Interpersonal Communication
What, what did you say? I often find myself saying this when talking with children. The likely
culprit of why is poor listening habits. Most people spend mere time listening than they spend on
any other communication activity, yet a large percentage of people never learn to listen well.
(TLSC, 2008) The above example is what I like to call pseudo listening. People will be thinking
about something else but appear to be listening and only get about half the intended message.
Recently at my father s (Ron) companybecause of a pseudo listening instance a $400,000 dollar
piece of equipment did not get specked correctly. When it was delivered to the customer at

X received very vague information from the engineer at Company B. Mr. X relayed this wrong
information to the planning department at Ron s company. In the end this resulted in the final
product being rejected. This caused Company B a great deal of money and Ron time and money as
well. Had Mr. X listen to what was being quoted and asked for more concrete information the
entire situation would have been different. During the listening phase if Mr. X had been truly
engaged he would have realized that the placement of the welds was specked on the wrong spots.
They were about ВЅ inch off, nonetheless it was incorrect. Rather he focused on getting this other
job so he was thinking about that instead. The result of the project was Company B didn t want to
pay for the work and Ron was out $ 400,000 dollars. Thus creating a negative affect on the business
relationship however, this could have been avoided with some good listening habits.
Improving the Situation A good listener wants to see how the facts explain the ideas and the
evidence supports arguments, and realizes facts are important only in relation to principles, ideas
and arguments. (Oregon State University, 2008) If Mr. X was using good listening habits he would
have gotten the message, decoded it then asked clarification questions. Which, would have resulted
in Ron and Company B both being satisfied with the product? One of the other factors I mentioned
was Mr. X leaving in the

Satire Definition Essay
Humor, for many, is a cheap laugh and a way to brighten someone s day. But for others, humor
goes beyond that. Often times in today s world, humor is used to convey messages about
dangerous or impossible to state topics. Society allows humorists to speak about unpalatable topics
since the delivery of the message is masked. Humorists take difficult messages and use creative
humor to make them more accepted into society.
Have you ever read a statement that made you double take because it said one thing, but meant
opposite? That is called satire. Satire presents a surface level message, but really, in the subtext,
the meaning was the opposite of what it seemed. Satire is seen in the world all around us. For
example A Modest Proposal, written by Jonathan Smith is a very satirical book. During the
Ireland famine, Smith is angered by the lack of progress being made to help. To point this out, he

Hollywood is notorious for taking dangerous or impossible ideas and masking them with humor.
Some may argue that the film industry only seeks laughter using vulgarity or toilet humor.
Movies such as Click , featuring Adam Sandler highlight this immature humor. However, the
same film tells a lesson on the lack of appreciation we tend to have for the mundane aspects of our
lives. It also provides a social message about how we all too often live on auto pilot. Another film,
Yes Man , is a comedywith a similar message about living on auto pilot. After a depressing
divorce, Jim Carrey decides he will say yes to every opportunity presented in his life. This movie is
hilarious, but also conveys a message about stepping out of your comfort zone and learning to
live a little on the edge. The movie Yes Man provides a deeper message, but it also is a comedy
film. Hollywood film is very effective in providing a deeper message that only humor and comedy

Bus Stop By William Inge
The visual that a play presents is a dominating factor in the quest to invite an audience member
into a world of which they feel a part. In a play such as Bus Stop by William Inge, this is especially
important because Grace s Diner plays a primary role in the storytelling. Inge s use of the iconic
American dinerto tell his story is ingenious. Simply setting eyes on the set inevitably evokes
pleasant feelings of familiarity and comfort in the minds of most audience members. A diner is a
place where people gather; a place where individuals from different backgrounds share a similar
experience. Inge crafted his characters meticulously in order to create contrast, conflict, and

Two badly shaded light bulbs would hang from the ceiling, creating the illusion that they are the

the audience to see the action on stage without straining their eyes. Therefore, most of the light
would be generated from the lighting system in the theatre. It is imperative that the contrast between
the diner and the harsh weather outside be evident from the start. This can be accomplished by
presenting the windows piled with snow on the outside, almost to the top of the windows, as if a
snow plow had pushed the snow up against them. The tops of the windows would appear to be
covered in frost. This visual would provide a realistic and budget friendly means of establishing
the weather, because it would not be necessary to find technology to create an ongoing blizzard
outside. Wind sounds with controllable velocity would contribute heavily to this. The warm colored

Comparing Two Fairy Stories
Title Some fairy tales end with a happy marriage to a wealthy person and living a life on a bed
full of roses. An example can be found in Beauty and the Beast. There is a young girl and her
father is a merchant. She ends up marrying the Beast, who ends up being a handsome prince, and
live happily ever after. But there are two fairy tales that are a little different. The first one is
Thumbelina. She goes through all of these obstacles to end up marrying a prince. She is gifted
wings and ends up living happily ever after. There are some fairy tales that really don t have that
happy ending. The Little Mermaid gets her heart broken due to her living in almost a completely

This theme is shown in all the fairy tales. This is shown in Beauty and the Beast when Belle falls
for a beast who ends up having a heart of gold and later becomes a handsome prince who, before
Belle loved him, was under a curse. This theme is shown in Thumbelina when all of the guys fall
in love with her, even when being blind. The mole falls in love with her just from hearing her
sing. It doesn t matter what Thumbelina looked like. This theme is also shown in the Little
Mermaid. The Little Mermaid fell in love with someone she thought she could have. She was
beautiful and wanted him. She didn t feel her self worth was a whole lot, especially at the end,
because she saw him with another woman.
Themes of sacrifice, unconditional love and beauty not determining someone s worth were all
shown within these fairy tales. Sacrifice is shown a lot of times when there is unconditional love.
Most of the time there is unconditional love, there is also someone not determining someone s

Taylor Swift Figurative Language
Almost everything in life can be viewed by different perspectives and almost everything is
interpreted
in a multitude of ways. This also applies to love and relationships. Love is so expansive and
intricate that it takes a whole life time to try to explain and feel it. When trying to explain love
some expressed love to be beautiful, miraculous and joyous. However, others portrayed the dark
side of love; the hurt, the harsh reality, and broken hearts. Taylor Swift represented that same
unhappiness that is associated with love in her music. In her song Forever and Always Taylor
Swift exemplified her pain through the lyrics. In the sixth stanza of her song Taylor sang, Oh, I

he resents himself for still being in love with this girl even after the pain of rejection she has put

matter what.
The Arctic Monkeys song, Do I Wanna Know? uses figurative language terms such as
metaphors, repetition, and personification to express the natural responses to fear of rejection and
the desperation held onto when one wants still to hold onto a love that may or may not be there.
Turner knew one thing for sure; that he was madly in love with this one girl and that he was
willing to go after her by whatever means necessary. Yet again Turner still had some hesitation.
This proved that point that there is always an uncertainty in love because no one is guaranteed
that the person they love feels the same way. It is a natural instinct to want to feel accepted and it
is heartbreaking to find out that the person he loved, did not even accept him. Alex turned to

Panama Canal Essay
The Panama Canal Assuredly the Panama Canal, If you didn t know already, was one of the most
economic and socialized marvels of its time. It was, at first, attempted by the French in the late
1800s, but they were unable to carry out the canal because of financial problems. Not only that, but
yellow fever and malaria flooded the campgrounds with the aid of mosquitoes, which made the
workforce unbalanced (Avery). Then in 1904, the Americans were to take over under the leadership

The kidneys would become infected as well and cause the person to bleed from the nose, mouth
and stomach (Easmon). What was interesting, though, was that the West Indian Negroes, which
worked on the canal, were somehow immune to yellow fever, but they severely suffered from
malaria (Avery). Malaria, on the other hand, was far off more deadly then Yellow fever for it
consisted of parasites (Malaria). An engineer once quoted If we could control malaria, I would
be less anxious about other diseases. If we cannot control malaria, our mortality is going to very
heavy (American Canal Construction). Consequently, these infections developed in mosquito
salivary glands as well and reproduce in the liver (Malaria). Above all, this incubation period
could last for months to a year at a time (Malaria). When the parasites leave the liver they reenter
the bloodstream where they are able to infect red blood cells to reproduce once again until the cell
bursts (Malaria). As a result, it caused anemia and jaundice from the lack of blood cells (Malaria).
Other symptoms include seizures, confusion, coma and death (Malaria).
Thus, the French were not able to keep up with the rapid growth of infected patients. They had only
a few nurses in the infirmary that where nuns and it didn t benefit them at all since they were
untrained, which lost even more lives (Avery). For example, the nurses would leave in the evening

The Life Of A Woman, By Jamaica Kincaid
Lucy, the eponymous character of Jamaica Kincaid s second novel, moves from Antigua to New
York not in an arbitrary move, but in a calculated effort to explore her latent queer sexuality and
gradually escape the gendered labor of her homeland. By working as an au pair for an upper class
white woman named Mariah, Lucy trades birthing labor for domestic labor in a move that initially
seems lateral, but serves as a potential gateway to freedom from caretaking that would have been
inaccessible in Antigua. Unbridled from her mother, the American Lucy has opportunities to
explore her sexuality without being deemed promiscuous, and has the ability to live with a woman
she can have intimate relations with. Lucy has continuously disobeyed the performative
prescriptions of heteronormativity in her life, but, as explained by the work of Rosamund King,
her transgressions in Antigua are rendered invisible by a culture that believes women are incapable
of sexual agency. America acknowledges Lucy s transgressions against heteronormativity, which
lets her explore sexuality and gradually escape the obligations of gendered work. Lucy is escaping
the obligations delineated by femaleperformance. Lucy does not begin to experiment or play with
queerness and genderin America, but remains unassimilated to beauty standards with the same
intensity she had in Antigua. During her upbringing, her gender nonconforming behaviors and
ideology went ignored in Antigua because of the common misconception that females are
incapable of having sexual agency, intelligence, or usefulness beyond sustenence work and
caretaking within the household (King). Lucy is allowed to kiss girls, like her best friend from
school, and her does not fret over failing to enjoy acts of intimacy with males. Heteronormativity is
not enforced by expectations of female and male pairings, but instead by the gendered division of
labor. According to Nancy Hartsock s Feminist Standpoint, this tradition of forcing females into
sustenance work should create a collective caregiver essence to women, and Lucy proves the
antithesis. Akash Nichols, in his essay Straight Growth and the Imperial Alternative: Queer Reading
Jamaica Kincaid, delves into how 20th century and, as

often hard to understand properly. poetry is indeed difficult to read and hard to understand, but

Positive Aspects Of Being An American

elected to positions of power. In addition to the political system we have in place we have a great

one stipulation is that you cannot sell controlled substances and things of that nature. We are also
able to hold a vast assortment of jobs instead of having a few that the government allows us to

Paralleling the symbolism in Edward Scissorhands, Burton utilized costuming to represent the

Surrealism In Poetic Realism
1930 s France saw the growth of a small film movement known as Poetic Realism.
The tenants of this movement were loose at best and mostly consisted as a tendency that a handful
of independent filmmakers used in their films. Their influences came primarily from literature of
the time and the fantastic styles of Impressionism and Surrealism. From great literature came the
scripts and stories for this movements. Great writers like Emil Zola and Leo Tolstoy had their tales
appear on the screens of French theaters.
From Impressionism, the Poetic Realist infused their films with stylized cinema, optical effects,
and editing to render reality as it is subjectively perceived ( ( removed HTML ) https:/

Impressionism dealt in over emphasized movements and scenery that were indicative of the mood
or perspective of a character. These techniques were translated into the fantasy like worlds of Poetic
Realism.
Surrealism also had a part to play in the creation of these poetic and fantastic worlds. The dream like
quality present in the Surreal movement found its way into Poetic Realism through bizarre and
incongruitous scenes and sequences. A move towards subverting narrative continuity facilitated the

Dr. Hunter S. Thompson Summary
Dr. Hunter S. Thompson is remembered as a journalist who used his own unique style of writing
to add narrative to reinvent investigative journalism as he saw it. His style inspired many
journalists, and I was sadden to read of his death, at his own hand. The short story that he wrote
following the World Trade Center bombings in 2001, Fear and Loathing in America, for ESPN
featured a narrative that captured the reader. This article, and indeed his unique style of writing
were examined in an obituary written by Richard Keil in 2005.
To begin with, I will examine the article written by Thompson shortly after September 11, 2001.
The author s angle was one of foreboding, a warning for all Americans of what was to come
concerning their personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Keil (2005) highlighted the style used by Thompson. The author wrote about Thompson s life,
giving him much credit and clearly expressing his adoration for the man. Indeed, when Keil first
interviewed Thompson, it cost him his position with the Associated Press, taking him years to gain
his credibility back (Keil, 2005). Synthesis is found between these two pieces of writing when Keil
highlights the distain that Thompson had for two Presidents of the United States. George W. Bush,
who, with Richard Nixon, was among Hunter s least favorite presidents highlights the fact that
the reader was correct in their conclusion that in 2001, Thompson was not pleased with the
President nor with his decisions (Keil, 2005, para. 3). Furthermore, Thompson s references in the
short story were very well placed, supported when Keil (2005) writes, what s less remembered
about Hunter is the sweep of his knowledge he could quote the Bible, Thomas Wolfe, Ernest
Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Norman Mailer, the Koran, at will and the clarity of his writing
(para. 10). This synthesis, or evidence, is well supported in the article, giving further credibility to
the aforementioned short story for ESPN. I am in agreement with Keil, fully supporting his views
on the author and rather touched at the point of view he provided in his well written

Child Marketing For Children
Marketers all around the world has been working every day to create catchy advertisements, from
the macaroni and cheese we all eat, to the weekend family entertainment options. This is becoming
a problem. However, marketers are profiting not from just ordinary consumers, but children, tweens,
and teens. The child marketingindustry has revolutionized from the early days, and is still growing
at a massive scale. How effective advertisements are specifically designed for children, tweens, and
teenage audiences. How do marketers use methods to lure children in?
Child marketers implement specific techniques to target teenage audiences. Some of these
techniques may be the bandwagon technique, where advertisers create the illusion that everyone ...

The FTC Amelioration Act authentically did diametrical to ostracizing advertisingto kids: it
mandated that the FTC would no longer have any ascendancy whatsoever to regulate advertising
and marketing to children, leaving marketers virtually free to target kids as they visually
perceived fit. By 1984, the Reagan administration had prospered in dismantling the last vestiges of
regime oversight, thoroughly deregulating children s television. One result of deregulation was
that it became possible to engender a television program for the sole purport of selling a toy,
essentially turning kids shows into program length toy commercials. And sure enough, the year
after deregulation, all ten of the best selling toys were predicated on media: Transformers, G.I.

ОµбЅ”П‡ОїОјО±О№ takes a complementary infinitive. 78 93 Akhilleus mourning for Patroklos foreshadows his own funeral.1 As he laments his friend s death, Thetis holds his head in her lap similar to a gesture of mourning while he lies prostate on the ground, covered in dirt, like a corpse. This also mirrors Akhilleus mourning for his own death. 78 П„бЅґОЅ refers back to Thetis and is the object of the verb. ОІО±ПЃбЅє is a neuter adjective used adverbially. The use of the epithet ПЂПЊОґО±П‚ бЅ ОєбЅєП‚ is a bit ironic here since Akhilleus grief has completely immobilized him, although this discrepancy between the warrior s inactivity and his superior ... Richard Martin notes that heroic orators are performers who engage in formal speech acts that generally fall into genres of prayer, lament, supplication, commanding, insulting, and remembering the past.7 Friedrich and Redfield have expanded on the complexity of language in Homeric epic, arguing that the poet constructs the style of speaking of a few individual characters to be different from that of other characters.89 Akhilleus speeches exhibit a particular oratory style, often shifting between present and past, realism and imagination. This is shown in his answer to Odysseus in book 9: he employs a simile to describe his бјЂО°ПЂП‰ОїП…П‚ ОЅПЌОєП„О±П‚ бј¤ОјО±П„О± ОґбѕЅ О±бј±ОјО±П„ПЊОµОЅП„О± in war to a mother bird feeding her chicks in 323 27; he interrogates Odysseus with a rapid succession of rhetorical questions in 337 4; he vividly recounts fighting Hektor in 351 6; when insulting Agamemnon s gifts, he drifts into thinking about rich cities and great plunder in 378 385; and then, declaring that he will never marry Agamemnon s daughter, he becomes consumed with the thought of marriage and his wife, which leads him to reminisce about his father s wealth and land in 389 410. Theravadan Buddhism, which is the early stage of Buddhism, depreciates women by a theory called Five Blocks . However, Buddhism started to affect women in a positive way when Buddha raised several doctrines and explained the theory in a more proper way. The Five Blocks theory can be summarized as women can t achieve enlightenment because women are weak, jealous, annoying, desiring and having more affairs in the world. This theory makes women inferior to men for a long time. Accordingly women are seen as a weaker sex, cannot make a decision on their own, and they are dependent beings. However, rather than saying Buddhism recognized women, I would prefer to say Buddhism recognized Equality . Buddha considers everything in the world are equal, then men and women are equal; Buddha considers men and women have the equal responsibility in the family, then women act as wife more than bearing tools; Buddha considers men and women are equally useful to society, then women can have more right and power than before. The problem is when we become too dependent on these devices. Do we really need to be connected twenty four hours a day? Is this technology restricting our ability to be productive without it? Can the users succeed in everyday activities like traveling without these devices? This is a very new topic for argument but one that needs to be thought about and analyzed. What society must realize is that we are becoming too dependent on these devices and need to make reasonable concessions or preparations in the case of a failure. When we take a look at the uses of these devices we will find that they have an absolute plethora of uses. • 7. The Explorer Poem Analysis The Explorer was written during the civil rights movement when Brooks started to focus on writing for the black community. Through the blood, sweat, and sacrifice her community experiences every day, she is inspired to write this particular piece to show that African Americans, although are scared, will keep fighting and searching for their utopia. Starting from stanza one, the word frayed stands out the most. Repeated twice, it immediately tells the reader that the situation is not that of hope and is life changing to the main character. Still spot also references that the main character is looking for a quiet setting. The theme of quiet and peace is renounced in stanza two as words such as velvet peace and willy hush also go along with the peace and quiet theme. Now, the reader gains a better sense of the financial condition of the main character. Tatters makes the reader think that the main character is poor and financially challenged, and knowing Brooks purpose of the poem is about revitalizing hope for the black community, the main character is most likely black male. Moreover, Brooks inserts a metaphor that comprises most of the stanza and ultimately depicts that the character in the poem is trying to find peace and quiet both within a house and his mind (Poem 3). Next in stanza three, the main purpose of this stanza is to describe what exactly is happening to the main character. Tipping down the scrambled halls reveals that the main character does not ... Roman society was also patriarchal, where it heavily focused more on the men than women. Women were expected to produce male heirs and look after the cleaning and maintenance of the houses they lived in, other than that, they had less independence than men did. Your status in the world is very important. There were different class ranks which represented a certain group of people. These classes often interacted with each other. These classes include Slaves, Freemen, Soldiers, Equestrians, Senators, the Nobility, and the Emperor. These class systems were heavily enforced under the law. The laws even governed what each class wore for clothing. For example, the Emperor was the only one allowed to wear a purple toga. Senators were allowed to wear a white toga with a broad purple stripe along the edge, and horse riders wore togas with a narrow purple stripe. In Roman society, there was also a system of patronage. Members of the upper class would offer protection and freedom to freedmen and plebeians, the working class, if they became their cliens , also known as clients. Satire presents a surface level message, but really, in the subtext, the meaning was the opposite of what it seemed. Satire is seen in the world all around us. For example A Modest Proposal, written by Jonathan Smith is a very satirical book. During the Ireland famine, Smith is angered by the lack of progress being made to help. • 24. Bus Stop By William Inge The visual that a play presents is a dominating factor in the quest to invite an audience member into a world of which they feel a part. In a play such as Bus Stop by William Inge, this is especially important because Grace s Diner plays a primary role in the storytelling. Inge s use of the iconic American dinerto tell his story is ingenious. Simply setting eyes on the set inevitably evokes pleasant feelings of familiarity and comfort in the minds of most audience members. A diner is a place where people gather; a place where individuals from different backgrounds share a similar experience. This can be accomplished by presenting the windows piled with snow on the outside, almost to the top of the windows, as if a snow plow had pushed the snow up against them. The tops of the windows would appear to be covered in frost. When trying to explain love some expressed love to be beautiful, miraculous and joyous. However, others portrayed the dark side of love; the hurt, the harsh reality, and broken hearts. Taylor Swift represented that same unhappiness that is associated with love in her music. In her song Forever and Always Taylor Swift exemplified her pain through the lyrics. Turner knew one thing for sure; that he was madly in love with this one girl and that he was willing to go after her by whatever means necessary. Yet again Turner still had some hesitation. The Life Of A Woman, By Jamaica Kincaid Lucy, the eponymous character of Jamaica Kincaid s second novel, moves from Antigua to New York not in an arbitrary move, but in a calculated effort to explore her latent queer sexuality and gradually escape the gendered labor of her homeland. By working as an au pair for an upper class white woman named Mariah, Lucy trades birthing labor for domestic labor in a move that initially seems lateral, but serves as a potential gateway to freedom from caretaking that would have been inaccessible in Antigua. Unbridled from her mother, the American Lucy has opportunities to explore her sexuality without being deemed promiscuous, and has the ability to live with a woman she can have intimate relations with. Lucy has continuously disobeyed the performative prescriptions of heteronormativity in her life, but, as explained by the work of Rosamund King, her transgressions in Antigua are rendered invisible by a culture that believes women are incapable of sexual agency. America acknowledges Lucy s transgressions against heteronormativity, which lets her explore sexuality and gradually escape the obligations of gendered work. Lucy is escaping the obligations delineated by femaleperformance. Lucy does not begin to experiment or play with queerness and genderin America, but remains unassimilated to beauty standards with the same intensity she had in Antigua. During her upbringing, her gender nonconforming behaviors and ideology went ignored in Antigua because of the common misconception that females are incapable of having sexual agency, intelligence, or usefulness beyond sustenence work and caretaking within the household (King). Lucy is allowed to kiss girls, like her best friend from school, and her does not fret over failing to enjoy acts of intimacy with males. Heteronormativity is not enforced by expectations of female and male pairings, but instead by the gendered division of labor. According to Nancy Hartsock s Feminist Standpoint, this tradition of forcing females into sustenance work should create a collective caregiver essence to women, and Lucy proves the antithesis.
