Root Cellar Theodore Roethke Analysis
Theodore Roethke s poem Root Cellar has one stanza, and eleven lines total. Upon first reading the
title, I admit that it doesn t strike me as very original. This poem can very well be a description of the
author s cellar; a snapshot of an event being held in said cellar. The author begins with telling us that
nothing would sleep in [the] cellar . At first I pondered why the author would put that part in at the
very beginning, but as I read on I found that the beginning was the correct placement; it pulled the
reader (me) in, and had me asking, Why wouldn t anything sleep down there? Was it hot? Musty?
Dark? The author describes the cellar as dark, and uses similes, dank as a ditch and, roots ripe as old
bait to describe the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They then go on to describe the rotting roots, the decomposing leaves, the lime, etc. to further the
feeling of disgust when one thinks of such a place. The last two lines threw me for a loop however.
Nothing would give up life: Even the dirt kept breathing a small breath. Suddenly, my thoughts of
disgust transformed to more positive ones. Instead of thinking, Why would anyone allow something to
become so disgusting? , I think about how the leaves and the roots refused to go away. The shoots
continued to hang, low and in the way; the leaves and roots continued to make their presence known
by giving off the strong smell of decomposing matter. After reading the poem, I m still not 100% sure
on what the theme is. There was a shift from negative to positive in the last three lines, and lots of
imagery. Even then the poem still comes across as abstract and slightly vague. The author could be
describing their life; maybe the run down cellar and decaying roots are representations of an unhappy
or dysfunctional childhood. Maybe, in writing this, they are accepting that those memories will never
go away, but they don t define who they are. Or maybe the author is describing a time when they went
to get something from their cellar, and realized how disgusting it was. As always, it s whatever the
reader wants it to

Marketing is an integrated communications based process through which individuals and communities
discover that existing and newly identified needs and wants may be satisfied by the products and
services of others. Perhaps the most important factor in successful marketing is marketing plan. A
marketing plan is a written document that details the necessary actions to achieve one or more
marketing objectives. It can be for a product or service, a brand, or a product line.

Investigator Moffel Case
On October 18th, 2016 at approximately 7:43 PM, I, Investigator James Poffel was that a shooting just
occurred and that a young, white male had been shot in the head and was being transported by
Muskogee County EMS workers to Eastar Medical Center Emergency Room for treatment. There
were two different locations that patrol officers responded to, Ace s Convenience Store at 550 N. Main
St., where the victim was located, and 2500 N. Main St. where the shooting occurred. I first responded
to 550 N. Main St. to make contact with Investigator Don Johnson, who was the on call investigator.
After speaking with Investigator Johnson and getting a basic understanding of what we knew so far. I
went to Eastar Medical Center to see if I could speak with the victim, Aron Grootenboer. When I first
arrived at the Eastar Medical Center, I made contact with the nurses in the Emergency Room. They
informed me Aron was back getting a CT scan of his head and when he returns I would be able to
speak with him. They informed me he is conscious and speaking coherently. When he returns, they

The Truman Show Delusion
2) My paragraph on the problem: The Truman Show delusion is a psychosis that is easier to
understand when one views it as a cultural manifestation, across countries, and over time, of
delusional disorders. In order to cope with increased levels of stress, just as an overly sensitive system
may resort to clinically recognized delusions such as grandiosity (imagining themselves to be
someone strong and invulnerable) it is equally probable, given the increasing popularity of reality TV
shows, that the delusion involves becoming a famous version of oneself . The form the delusional
disorder is the same, only the content has changed. This is further supported by current trends where
social media dominates our lives, where one leads a constantly

Differences Between Iroquois Constitution And Us Constitution
The Iroquois and United States constitutions have very analogous ideas, but also have very distinct
differences as well. The Great Law of Peace (Iroquois constitution) dates back from the fifteenth
century and were created by the Iroquois confederacy. Columbus didn t arrive in America until 1492
and even then it took them a long period of time to establish themselves in the new country. Meaning
the Iroquois constitution initially came to existence before the United States constitution came into
place. When the founding fathers of America wrote the constitution they had to base their constitution
on something because of the fact that they were a new nation being born and needed a sense of
guidance. So they base certain ideas from their native country, Mother England and also borne ideas
from the Iroquois constitution and as well implemented new concepts of ... Show more content on

The Sixth Decade By Jonathan Schell

The Seventh Decade by Jonathan Schell
By: Jordan Petruska
Professor Tom Deligiannis
Friday October 9, 2015
The nuclear bomb is an interesting phenomenon that has captured the fascination of scholars,
academics, politicians, and the media to bring curiosity and fear together. The first and only use of
nuclear weapons occurred in 1945 during the Second World War, wiping out over 200,000 Japanese
civilians in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Nuclear bombs, were now viewed as the number one threat that
could potentially destroy our planet and the human race. Since 1945 nuclear weapons have since been
a strong threat that has imposed a psychological anxiety for world leaders as this threat has expanded
to fifty countries with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third and final proposal is taking greater action on the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty to confirm
all nations are on the same playing field to dismantle nuclear weaponry. I plan on providing updated
analysis in these issues as well. The Seventh Decade was written in 2007 and a lot has gone on since
then in regards to nuclear activity and I plan on making it clear to the reader where the U.S. and the
rest of the world stands.
It has been seventy years since the last military nuclear bomb was successfully executed and many of
us feel that nuclear threats have decedent or vanished, but Schell informs us that they are full of life.
The Seventh Decade examines how the nuclear bomb has continued to cast a dark shadow over global
politics and has advocated for the non proliferation of nuclear weapons. The book takes on a robust
roadmap to a nuclear bomb free world that looks at the historical dark uncertainties of the Cold War,
where the odds of a nuclear attack were extremely high during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis to the
spread of nuclear knowledge and technology in the 1990s to unstable nations like Iraq and Pakistan,
increasing the risk and fear of a nuclear war. Schell brings up some important foundational questions
like what can be done? Where are we heading? Why has the nuclear threat been revived? The Seventh
Decade calls into question for a global debate to end nuclear

Social Hierarchy In To Kill A Mockingbird
Douglas Adams once wrote, Don t you understand that we need to be childish in order to understand?
Only a child sees things with perfect clarity because it has not developed all those filters which
prevent us from seeing things that we do not expect to see. To Kill a Mockingbird was written by
Harper Lee and it examines the life of the residents of the fictional town of Maycomb through the eyes
of a child. Incredibly paramount events in history largely shape the beliefs of the Maycombians. The
story is set in the southern state of Alabama roughly seventy years after the end of the Civil War.
Although slavery was abolished, the racial discrimination towards African Americans and the belief
that white people were better than their darker counterparts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The adults of the town believed in the archaic system so firmly, their children were conditioned to
grow up with the same futile beliefs. Jem sums up the entirety of the social system in the twenty third
chapter when he states that: There s four kinds of folks in the world. There s the ordinary kind like us
and the neighbors, there s the kind like the Cunninghams out in the woods, the kind like the Ewells
down at the dump, and the Negroes. The Maycombians consistently abide by the status quo, and many
of the citizens treat people of lower classes differently and often terribly. In the book, the community
treated the Finches and their neighbors with extremely high regard. Even though Atticus gained a bad
reputation because he defended a black man, the town s residents treated him better than those who
were thought to be of subordinate classes. The Finches relation to the town founder, Simon Finch, also
highly influenced the way others treated them. Atticus was a lawyer, and this was considered to be one
of very few professional job positions held in the town. Jem classified the Finches, and the neighbors
as one type of people, the common folk, and they were treated the best in the entire community
because they had more money than the others and were more

Plato The Shackles
In Book 1 of Plato s The Republic, Socrates asks Cephalus about the difficulty of old age, as Cephalus
has reached the threshold of death and is therefore suited to speak upon age. Cephalus explains that
older people tend to be more peaceful because youthful desires like sex, partying, and drinking
constrain many people to temporal pleasure, but age releases them from those shackles. These
youthful desires are later treated as shackles that constrain many people to temporal pleasures. By
introducing these metaphorical shackles in the first discussion of The Republic, Plato foreshadows and
parallels the cave allegory that appears in Book 7 (Plato 3). In the cave allegory, people are chained
inside a cave and their knowledge is limited to only what they can see: the images of shadows casted
by statues. But once a philosopher enters, the prisoners are released from the shackles, exposed to the
light, and they themselves become philosophers. But the process does not stop there; the new
philosophers adopt altruism, going back to the cave to free the other prisoners ... Show more content

He introduces the struggle of classism when he notes that age isn t easy for a good man if he s poor
(3). This statement connecting age and class further demonstrates the timeless issue with money and
material possessions in society. Plato states that money is a requirement for old age to be enjoyable
and enlightening. But money is the same item that lures people into the chains of obsession. So those
wishing to enjoy a pleasurable old age free from glutinous desire must maintain wealth. But wealth
often diminishes character, causing people to become greedy and corrupt. Nevertheless, old age acts
as a safeguard against the perversions of

An examination of Thomas Hardys The Darkling Thrush Essay
An examination of Thomas Hardy s The Darkling Thrush
The Darkling Thrush quot; is a poem occasioned by the beginning of a new year and a new century. It
is formally precise, comprised of four octaves with each stanza containing two quatrains in hymn
measure. The movement of the first two stanzas is from observation of a winter landscape as
perceived by an individual speaker to a terrible vision of the death of an era that the landscape seems
to disclose. The action is in how the apprehension of this particular moment of seeing changes as the
emotional impact of the scene solidifies.

The figure of the sun as a quot;weakening eye quot; is a personification, a trope resonating off
Romantic associations such as Wordsworth s quot;eye of heaven quot; for the sun in quot;Resolution
and Independence quot;. It establishes the poem s time as at the closing of a particular day at the end
of a seasonal year. Whether the Romantic allusion to visionary powers and their ebbing is noted or
not, it is a suggestive adjective for a time when seeing is becoming more difficult due to a reduction of
light. As the poem moves further away from visual observation to emotional coloration, it replaces
concrete detail with pathetic fallacy, a rhetorical device by which we, in Santayana s words quot;dye
the world our own color quot; (Santayana, 159).
The tangled bine stems scored the sky
Like strings of broken lyres . . .
The next two lines also have a Romantic link to Coleridge s aeolian harp and the music it made at
another dusk when it exemplified Unity, quot;one Life within us and abroad/ Which meets all motion
and becomes its soul quot;. A quot;wild harp quot; is also the image opening Coleridge s own
quot;Ode to the Departing Year quot;, a poem in which the harp is unable to evoke a lasting hope
(Coleridge, 56). Now , at the turn of the nineteenth century in Hardy s poem, the lyric

Paul Bogard Let There Be Dark Summary
In a world of ever growing developments, the blight of artificial lights is conquering the darkness of
the night. To some, the fading darkness presents a major catastrophe towards human health, the
ecosystem, and culture in general. One of these people is Paul Bogard. In his article, let there be dark,
Bogard cleverly utilized devices such as statistics, imagery, and research findings across the world to
illustrate that the removal of darkness from our nights only causes severe problems. Bogard first
introduced the topic with a personal anecdote that described his experiences with darkness as a child.
Imagery such as hands disappeared before my eyes and meteors left smoky trails evoked nostalgia
among the readers. Suddenly, Bogard transitions from the romantic descriptions of the past night sky
to cold hard statistics of the current generation. Statistics indicates that only 2/10 children in the US
will know a sky dark enough for the Milky Way, brining awareness to the ... Show more content on

Bogard first discusses the World Health Organization and the American Medical Association s
consensus on the health disorders caused by the lack of darkness. Diseases ranging from minor
ailments such as sleep disorders to severe chronic issues such as diabetes, heart disease, and even
cancer all root from the lack of darkness. Not only does the lack of darkness has taken a toll on some
people s health, but the reduction has caused ecological collapse in parts of the world. Bogard clearly
presents the point that many animal and plant species rely on the darkness of the night to perform their
role in the ecosystem. Ecological functions such as pollination and pest control would simply collapse
under light pollution, the bulldozer of the night. Bogard presented such dire consequences to
reestablish his point about the removal of

How The Behaviours And Body Languages Of Males And Females...
On November 13, I decided to analyze how the behaviours and body languages of males and females
during a bus ride by using participant observation as my method of collecting data (also commonly
known as ethnographic field notes). I did this experiment by taking the Translink #49 bus from the
University of British Columbia bus loop at 1 PM in the afternoon to the final stop, Metrotown Station
and rode the same bus back to campus at 6 PM in the evening. I believe the data I have gathered from
this observation is very interesting because in Canada, there is an emphasis on closing the sex gap
between males and females by showing that there are little or no differences (excluding the physical
sense) between the two. Therefore, I was curious if there were behavioural and social variations
between the two sexes in an open space, and I thought that observing other people s actions and body
languages on a public transportation like the bus would be able to answer my questions if there were
differences . I would argue that we can learn a lot from the way we act through the patterns I have
seen and use that to be more conscious about our actions when we hop on a bus ride. Originally, I
expected to find little difference between the two sexes, because I did not anticipate that humans
would act differently due to their sex in a closed space that they had to stay in for a temporary amount
of time. However, my findings have shown that there are varying patterns of behaviour between males

Analysis Of The Monotheistic Religion Of Judaism
Judaism is one of the most controversial and known religions in the world. Judaism plays a major role
in history, as it almost went extinct during the reign of one of the most brutal people to ever live. But
many people don t know much about the religion, just that it went through tough times or took brutal
events during war time. I believe that it is good to inform others about the monotheistic religion of
Judaism and it s beliefs, because many people ask the same question : How does the Jewish religion
differ from Catholicism? There are many ways to answer this question, but I will deconstruct this by
developing 3 different questions to analyse not only the main question, but to analyse Judaism as a
whole. What is the Jews opinion of Jesus? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of a similarity is their belief in one God. Both religions are monotheistic and believe in
one true divine being. But even this common belief of the two religions has been broken down further.
Although both believe that God the holy one, Judaism does not accept the popular belief of the Holy
Trinity. The Holy Trinity is the three very important sections of beings that make up God: The Father,
The Son, and The Holy Spirit. Judaism insists on the notion of believing in ONE God, being strictly
monotheistic. As Judaism understands this idea, God cannot be made up of parts, even if those parts
are mysteriously united. The Christian notion of trinitarianism is that God is made up of God the
Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Such a view, even if called monotheistic because the
three parts are, by divine mystery, only one God, is incompatible with the Jewish view that such a
division is not possible. (JewCathDifference, The Differences Between Judaism and Christianity,

Misreadings In Atonement
The article written by Martin Jacobi, Who Killed Robbie and Cecilia? Reading and Misreading Ian
McEwan s Atonement, is very critical and analytical about how McEwan chose to allow for
misreadings in the novel Atonement, and the potential dangerous effects of allowing that. Jacobi
focuses on Briony, the narrator of the novel, as the one who is the source of Who killed Robbie and
Cecilia? It is Briony s misreadings of situations depicted in the novel that forces Robbie to be
wrongfully imprisoned, and sent off to war. Likewise, Briony wrongfully separates her sister, Cecilia,
from her beloved Robbie. However, Briony knows that she is wrong in her accusations. Because of
this, Briony searches for atonement. She looks to herself for atonement, through her writing. It is her
therapeutic writing that allows Briony to forgive herself (Jacobi 62 63). He argues that at the heart of
Briony s writings are the misreadings that have continued to plague the work as a whole. Ultimately,
Martini is against misreading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jacobi puts great emphasis on the theme of misreadings and preconceptions in the book. He advises
against the dangers of both these things and attempts to warn the reader about the potential damaging
effects. Then Hidalgo discusses the structure of Atonement, and by understanding the structure we
better understand the book as a whole. Last there is O Hara who discusses the otherness of the
narration and relates it to the fascism present in the world at the time. This was a very important
observation as it links Atonement to its World War 2 setting. These articles are all very valuable as
they offer differing perspectives on the narrative style and narration as a whole. The different opinions
and points come together to better characterize the narration in Atonement as one filled with structure,

Mcbride s Characters In The Color Of Water By James Mcbride
In the book The Color of Water, the author, James McBride not only takes us through his own journey,
but also gives us a perspective on the life of his mother, Ruth. James admiration for his mom reflects
throughout the story while showing the readers the growth and development her character experienced
as she went through life. Ruth McBride Jordan endured many heartbreaking hardships throughout her
life, but nevertheless, had an innumerable amount of cheerful and zestful moments. She grew to be a
remarkable woman; however, it was a long journey before she became that woman. Separating from
her family, and leaving the South was one of the hardest choices she ever made, yet it was best for her,
in order to move on and adjust her future for the better. A main factor in Ruth s life prosperity was her
first husband, Andrew Dennis McBride, who taught her many important things and, in a sense,
changed her entire lifestyle and outlook on the world. The last large impression that altered her life
immensely in a way that led her character to mature, was the death of her beloved Dennis . These
elements all highlight a point in this woman s life that caused a development in her personality.
In her younger years, being a part of the Shilsky family was no easy task for Ruth. In those times, her
father, Fishel, was a heartless man with no sense of appreciation or love for his faithful and obedient
Jewish family. In fact, Fishel was so cruel to his three children that Ruth reports having

Sparta And Athens
According to Blackwell (2003), participation in Public life and decision making in the community
have dissimilar approach for Sparta and Athens.
In Sparta, there is a sense of similarity amongst male citizens as they are all soldiers and had political
rights, but Spartan men are divided by wealth. Therefore, there is no equality amongst its citizens.
Only free born native males of Sparta or Athens had any form of right to public political life.
In Sparta, the native males are automatic members of the public assembly where they can vote annual
Ephors or lifetime Gerousias as required. Dining in their officers mess and belonging to a group

SELECTION OF PUBLIC OFFICE HOLDERS
Only native free male citizens can vote for public office holders. Foreigners, slaves or women are not
permitted to interfere. This is effective both in Sparta and Athens.
Wealth also plays a major role and serves as prerequisite for participation in public offices (Blackwell,
2003).
SIMILARITIES
The two states are similar in that both are easily influenced by rich landowners in the cities.
Aristocrats had a higher say in matters of state. Also, both the Athenian council and Spartan Gerousia
were elected through public assembly. Both Sparta and Athens denied non citizens political power.
The Spartan Gerousia is similar to the Athenian Areopagus. They determine what issue is presented at
the popular assembly.
Both Sparta and Athens have the popular assembly consisting of free born native male citizens of the
state who vote their representatives of Ephors and gerousia in the public assembly (Blackwell, 2003).

Chinese Art And Confucianism
For thousands of years, the use of art through paintings, drawings, pictures, photographs have been
used in religions for many purposes. Religious groups and sects have used art to protest, idealize, and
tell stories about their religion. They have used art to express their beliefs and thoughts to the world.
According to the dictionary, art is the expression or application of human creative skill and
imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be
appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. This emotional power inserted on each
piece of art was meant to inspire and teach each believer about their religion. We can see this in
different religions such as the Chinese religion, Confucianism. Confucianism believes in the adoration
of the ancestors and diverse powers being the greatest of all the heavens, the lord from above. People
in Confucianism must understand that the ancestors and the cosmos, determine their life and existence
and therefore they must maintain a good harmony. This is achieved through study and meditation to
self perfect. Therefore, like other religions, Confucianism through art represents their beliefs. Each
work of art seeks that when observed can convey the idea and concept of the artist who will always
seek inspiration from his beliefs.
Confucianism has been a predominant school of thought in China for ages and is a cornerstone of
Chinese culture. Its influence on human relationships and ethical

difficulty in falling or staying asleep, falling asleep at wrong times, falling asleep unnecessarily, or
shows other abnormal sleep behaviors, he/she is said to have a sleep disorder. Congenital Central
Hypoventilation Syndrome The Congenital Central Hypoventilation Syndrome or CCHS is
categorized as a parasomnia. Such sleep disorders are the symptoms of central nervous system
activation that are generally transmitted through skeletal muscle or autonomic nervous system
channels ( The International Classification of Sleep Disorders, Revised: Diagnostic and Coding
Manual 19). CCHS is an uncommon syndrome that is mostly present from the time of birth. It is
widely defined as the malfunctioning of automatic control of breathing. The affected individuals have
missing or insignificant ventilatory sensitivity to hypercapnia and hypoxaemia during sleep and
wakefulness (Chen, and Keens 182). This is the reason why patients with CCHS experience
progressive hypercapnia and hypoxaemia during sleep (Chen, and Keens 182). Hypoventilation
(shallow breathing) is the distinguishing feature of

The Yellow Wallpaper, By Charlotte Perkins Gilman
Until the end of time, women will find themselves asking, What is one to do? . This could be in
context to an abusive relationship, bearing children, choosing a job career, or virtually anything.
Naturally, women are nurturers and will put others before themselves and for this reason it is a
timeless question. In a short story, The Yellow Wallpaper written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the
main character finds herself asking this question frequently. The story follows a young woman
suffering from post partum depression and is placed on rest cure by her husband. Gilman uses her own
experiences from rest cure to relate and provide inside feeling to what it felt like to be under these
conditions. The Yellow Wallpaper is a short story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This psychotic break could have been prevented if the main character s husband helped her and
listened to her opinion on her own illness. The loving mother who just bared a child was ignored and
sent to rest when all she really needed was a little love and attention from her husband. Her husband
believes that he is doing everything in his power to help her, but in reality he is only feeding into her
psychotic break. Unfortunately, the rest cure was given to a number of women during this time period
due to lack of understanding of the disease. Gilman is not the only woman that was placed under these
harsh conditions and neglected, however, she was able to take that experience and fight for women s

Expectations versus Reality in Stephen Crane s The Red...
Expectations versus Reality in Stephen Crane s The Red Badge of Courage
The notion that war is an exciting, romantic endeavor full of glory and heroism has existed for
centuries. Stephen Crane set out to demystify war through his novel The Red Badge of Courage,
which traces the experiences of a young soldier in the American Civil War. Crane shows the true
nature of war by contrasting Henry Fleming s romantic expectations with the reality that he
encounters.
This contrast between romantic vision and cold reality can be seen early in the novel, with Henry s
departure from home. Driven to a prolonged ecstasy of excitement by the rejoicing crowd, Henry
enlists in the army and says good bye to his mother with a light of excitement ... Show more content

The contrast is again evident in Henry s army experiences before going into battle. His treatment
before leaving town only serves to increase his romantic expectations as his former classmates
[throng] about him with wonder and admiration (710). Henry s regiment is then treated so well on its
journey to Washington that he is led to believe that he must be a hero with the strength to do mighty
deeds of arms (711). In keeping with his romantic beliefs, Henry imagines that his regiment will be
involved in a series of death struggles with small time in between for sleep and meals (711).
Yet again, Crane presents a more realistic view in Henry s actual experiences. Instead of automatically
being a hero, as he had anticipated, Henry faces uncertainty and a little panic fear as to his own ability
to withstand battle (712). Filled with self doubt, Henry dreams of a thousand tongued fear that [will]
babble at his back and cause him to flee (718). In addition, Henry must put up with months of
monotonous life in a camp, not the constant action he anticipated (711). Even when his regiment does
move out, it moves from place to place with apparent aimlessness, leaving a frustrated Henry to feel
that he is merely one part of a vast blue demonstration (722).
It is in the scenes of battle and death, however, that the contrast between Henry s romantic
expectations and his actual experiences

Horror Narrative Essay
The horror genre has many lessons to teach us as an audience although being the genre most
connected with that of ridiculousness. It is regularly associated with the reaction it seeks from its
audience; both emotional and physical. In cinema success is measured by terrifying chills, bloody
deaths and the volume of the audiences scream. The appeal of horror narrative in literature, film and
theatre lies in the pleasures it associates with fear, suspense and terror; no matter what it is trying to
convey to the audience. Even when writers layer the genre with academic thoughts on psychology,
theology and the world in which we live in, horror remains the primary outlet to examine the notions
of dread, uncertainly, mysterious and the abject. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Films such as Carrie (DePalma 1976), Misery (Reiner 1990), Evil Dead (Raimi 1981), The Exorcist
(Friedkin 1973), The Birds (Hitchcock 1963) have all been made into stage productions; treading the
boards as a Broadway Musical or as serious drama. These adaptations have gained cult followings and
mixed reviews.
In 2014 the London theatre scene will be dominated by horror on stage. Productions of Fatal
Attraction (Dearden 2014), American Psycho (Aguirre Sacasa 2013), Let the Right One In (Thorne
2013), Woman in Black (Mallatratt 1987) and Ghost stories (Dyson Nyman 2012) will lead the early
part of the season. The power of stage horror doesn t just match that of horror cinema, it can actually
outdo it as it can carry a blow that is extremely intensified because it is live. The question for the stage
though is how do we adapt iconic horror from screen to stage without the magic of high expensive
technical effects?
Horror on stage could be said to date back to the Ancient Greeks and their tales of incest, murder and
revenge, only using the role of the messenger as narrator to the horrors that happened off stage. In
modern times, however, we only need to look to Paris and the Théâtre du Grand Guignol, which
presented explicit revenge tales from the late 1800s to the mid 1900s. The plays placed emphasis on

The photographs should also show where the toolmark was located, how the object on which it was
found was arranged, and how big it was. Once everything has been photographed a cast can be made
of or the area on which on toolmark was found can be removed. When making a cast there needs to be
a mixture to get the fine details of the markings so it can be analyzed for a microscopic comparison.
When the tool and tool mark are being compared the examiner will look for unique characteristics that
they both contain or a serial number is located to see if it was imprinted onto a surface (WILEnet).
Firearm evidence consists of the discharged bullets, shot pellets, shotshell, shotshell components
(case, shot, slug, wad, powder charge, brass head, and primer.), and cartridge cases. According to the
Wisconsin Department of Justice when the firearm is sent into the lab the analyst looks at the
mechanical operability, including possible damage or alteration, trigger pull and physical features. The
firearm is then fired to see if it matches the bullets and cartridge cases. Another thing that is examined
are the bullets to see if the markings match the ones that were test fired as each firearm produces it s
own unique marking when fired. At the scene when the firearm has been shot it can pass through
walls, furniture, windows, vehicles, doors, etc. this allows the analysts to to determine the diameter of

The Privatization Of Foster Care
In Reality, is the Privatization of Foster Care an Ethical Solution to the Dilemmas of the System? The
foster care system in America is incredibly corrupt. There is no denying that. America has had issues
with foster care since it began about 160 years ago. It first began completely privatized, and as the
federacy found ways to fund it, it gradually became entirely public. Yet, there has consistently been
problems with its operations. There have been multiple attempts in the government to mend the
problem, or at least help. A lot of these solutions have been disasters because the foster care system is
not continuously overseen and regulated. Children are abused both physically and mentally, and will
often age out more damaged than when they first entered the system. There is one particular solution
that has come to the surface: privatizing the system again. However, this has never really brought any
light to the problem, and even makes situations worse. The privatization of foster care is not an ethical
solution to the dilemmas of the system because of the increase of abuse, undeniable deaths, and
insurmountable corruption. The public sector of the foster care system has issues with abuse, and the
private sector is experiencing an even higher rate of abuse (Therolf). One reason that abuse, in both
sectors, occurs is that the children are placed under the care of people who are not properly trained
(Slattery). This lack of training often results in multiple types of abuse

Thomas Jefferson Declaration Of Independence Rhetorical...
Declaration of Independence Assessment 1.) Jefferson states the reasoning behind the writing of the
Declaration of Independence. His reasoning is to declare the causes that propel a group toward
separation. 2.) The government acquires its power from the people. 3.) The unalienable rights that
Jefferson refers to are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. 4.) Jefferson holds the English rulers
accountable for the misfortunes of the colonies. 5.) The final statement of the Declaration of
Independence displays a confident, yet eloquent tone with a bit of defiance thrown in. These tones are
effective in conveying the importance of this document because he uses his tone to emotionally

A possible law contrary to the laws of nature would be polygamy because God has established one
man and one woman together as one. 7.) Self evident means clearly true and requiring no proof or
explanation (Merriam Webster Dictionary). Jefferson says these four truths are self evident: that all
men are created equal, endowed by their Creator with certain rights, to secure these rights,
governments are created, and finally, that if these governments affect the unalienable rights given to
men, that the people have the right to abolish that government. I do believe all of these are self evident
because they are founded clearly on the fact that the people should have the power and say in the
government. 8.) Absolute despotism means absolute power or control (Dictionary.com). Jefferson says
it is the right and duty of mankind to fight absolute despotism because it would be the downfall of a
country. Power should be divided within a country and not centered or controlled by one specific

Made Up Fairytale
Hi, Be Our Guest Be A Part of Our World I know they say that every fairytale starts with Once upon a

guess I should probably introduce myself right? Hi, I m Cinderella. I m just your average blonde who

with me. I m just the narrator. It all began last Tuesday when this guy named Ryan met a beautiful girl
walking along the pier. I know this just sounds so romantic right? Trust me it gets better. This

but Snow really can t complain until she s taken a walk in my shoes. Being the whiny little brat that
she is, Snow was running through the woods crying her eyes out just hoping someone would find her
and give her just an ounce of attention. Poor girl. By the way things looked it was apparent she had no
intentions of returning home, and with no one in sight she propped up against a large tree stump in
defeat. When she leaned up against the wood though, it caved in and she fell into the middle of what
she had thought to believe was a normal every day stump. Shocked and amazed at what she found
inside, Snow decided to just make herself at home, because that s princess etiquette. Several hours had
passed and the dumbbells, I mean dwarves, were headed back home to rest. After their one mile trek
through the sketchy woods, Jockey was the first to reach the door and pushed it open in relief.
However, what they were bound to find inside wouldn t really settle well. Laying on not one, but all
seven of their beds pushed together, was a woman

Ceramics in the Medical Field
Ceramics have been used for thousands of years and have been used in a multitude of different
application. In the past 70 years ceramics have started to be used in the medical field1. Ceramics can
be categorized by its bio safety and bioactivity. Bio safe materials are non toxic and non inflammatory
as to avoid rejection from the body. Where the bioactivity is how it reacts to biological material and
processes. Typically ceramics have been used in surgical replacements such as bones and teeth. These
ceramics must be designed and optimized in order to perform in the body s aggressive internal
environment. Newer ceramics are being researched in order to improve structure, functionality, and
life expectancy. Some ceramics like calcium phosphate ceramics increase the bioactivity by
stimulating bone growth2. Some are designed to incorporate drugs that can be release by external
stimuli or by time releasing mechanisms. These bioceramic drug delivery systems are being
researched, as well as nano scale ceramics. Current research is not only looking at new and improved
bioceramics but is also looking into using ceramics for use in cancer treatments. The use of ceramics
in hyperthermia therapy is one of the methods currently being looking into3. The ceramic that is used
in have magnetic materials incorporated into the ceramic this allows for external magnetic forces to
heat up the ceramic which cause an increase of heat at the site of implantation. This can causes

Making A Battery Operated Toy Car
On one such routine day, I ran towards the phone and to my satisfaction he was Vineet who said,
Thank you for sending me a car. I was so happy then since my efforts paid off, but there remained a
feeling of guilt. A few weeks back, my friends decided to give a gift to Vineet since he was recovering
from nephrotic syndrome and asked me for a contribution. I said, I would rather buy skates for myself
. Few days later, we visited him and he was looking helpless and weak on his bed. But, on seeing us
he was so surprised and delighted when he received the gift. He thanked everyone and said, Thank
you for an amazing toy car . I said with a guilt, Sorry, but I ve made no contribution for your gift .
With intention to do something special for him and the fact that my friend s family was moving to
another city, I put my efforts in making a battery operated toy car by myself. By the time toy car was
ready, my friend had left for the city. I had an easy choice to ask my father to buy something for
Vineet but instead I chose a harder way because it was my mistake and only I could have fixed it. I
then sent the toy car via courier. Later he called me up and said those above words. But the guilt in me
ever remained that I did not see him smile.

Of Hospitality By Jacques Derrida
Jacques Derrida created controversy and theories that have influenced philosophy, literature,
linguistics, anthropology and a number of other fields. The scope of his work is so large that some
argue it unreasonable to accept his word as legitimate in0 certain fields. In Of Hospitality, Derrida
describes and brings to the forefront one of the primary issues of cosmopolitan ethics; what is the
appropriate approach to extending and receiving hospitality and what are the implications of such
action? Through an intensive understanding of this work, Derrida eventually reaches the conclusion
that the balance between being absolutely hospitable and conditionally hospitable is completely
necessary. Is it more just and more loving to question or not to question? (Of Hospitality, 29). Each
has the ability to corrupt the other but both are needed in order for hospitality and, in general, socially
responsible behavior.
Why this is important
Hospitality cannot be practically applied without the host establishing some set of limits, but at the
exact time these limits are created, the visitor/guest is put into a position of wanting in freedom. This
is the aporia that Derrida is concerned with. According to Niall Lucy in A Derrida Dictionary; Aporia
is a Greek term denoting a logical contradiction. The word choice here is interesting because
contradiction implies an issue that is resolvable in a certain light as well as being a foundation on
which to build. As Derrida puts

The Education System And The American Educational System
The culture in and surrounding Uganda has fascinated me for a year or two now. I went to Kabale
Uganda for a mission trip during my spring break of senior year. I was able to teach the students there
for two weeks with my team and fell in love with it instantly. That trip spurred my desire to teach in
less fortunate countries once I finish college.
Once of the most significant differences between the Ugandan educational system and the American
educational system that I saw was that access to education was so limited in Uganda. In 1997 Uganda
initiated what they called Universal Primary Education (UPE), which aims to decrease poverty by
making primary (elementary) school free, there by more accessible to it s students. (Bategeka and
Okurut, 2006). The problem with UPE is that the government decides what schools will be part of the
UPE program. Which means, the more remote areas may not have a school that is supported by UPE
in walking distance. There is no other form of transportation for these students, it is highly uncommon
for a family to own a car, and if they re extremely fortunate they may own a bicycle. This forces the
students to go to a boarding school (Outreach Uganda, 2009). The boarding fees are around $2.00 in
U.S. currency a semester. At first appeared to be very manageable to me until I was told while in
Uganda that $2.00 in American currency converted to the Ugandan currency was roughly 2700
shillings That is more than my college tuition that theses families

  • 3. Root Cellar Theodore Roethke Analysis Theodore Roethke s poem Root Cellar has one stanza, and eleven lines total. Upon first reading the title, I admit that it doesn t strike me as very original. This poem can very well be a description of the author s cellar; a snapshot of an event being held in said cellar. The author begins with telling us that nothing would sleep in [the] cellar . At first I pondered why the author would put that part in at the very beginning, but as I read on I found that the beginning was the correct placement; it pulled the reader (me) in, and had me asking, Why wouldn t anything sleep down there? Was it hot? Musty? Dark? The author describes the cellar as dark, and uses similes, dank as a ditch and, roots ripe as old bait to describe the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They then go on to describe the rotting roots, the decomposing leaves, the lime, etc. to further the feeling of disgust when one thinks of such a place. The last two lines threw me for a loop however. Nothing would give up life: Even the dirt kept breathing a small breath. Suddenly, my thoughts of disgust transformed to more positive ones. Instead of thinking, Why would anyone allow something to become so disgusting? , I think about how the leaves and the roots refused to go away. The shoots continued to hang, low and in the way; the leaves and roots continued to make their presence known by giving off the strong smell of decomposing matter. After reading the poem, I m still not 100% sure on what the theme is. There was a shift from negative to positive in the last three lines, and lots of imagery. Even then the poem still comes across as abstract and slightly vague. The author could be describing their life; maybe the run down cellar and decaying roots are representations of an unhappy or dysfunctional childhood. Maybe, in writing this, they are accepting that those memories will never go away, but they don t define who they are. Or maybe the author is describing a time when they went to get something from their cellar, and realized how disgusting it was. As always, it s whatever the reader wants it to ... There were two different locations that patrol officers responded to, Ace s Convenience Store at 550 N. Main St., where the victim was located, and 2500 N. Main St. where the shooting occurred. I first responded to 550 N. Main St. to make contact with Investigator Don Johnson, who was the on call investigator. The Truman Show Delusion 2) My paragraph on the problem: The Truman Show delusion is a psychosis that is easier to understand when one views it as a cultural manifestation, across countries, and over time, of delusional disorders. In order to cope with increased levels of stress, just as an overly sensitive system may resort to clinically recognized delusions such as grandiosity (imagining themselves to be someone strong and invulnerable) it is equally probable, given the increasing popularity of reality TV shows, that the delusion involves becoming a famous version of oneself . The Great Law of Peace (Iroquois constitution) dates back from the fifteenth century and were created by the Iroquois confederacy. Columbus didn t arrive in America until 1492 and even then it took them a long period of time to establish themselves in the new country. Meaning the Iroquois constitution initially came to existence before the United States constitution came into place. When the founding fathers of America wrote the constitution they had to base their constitution on something because of the fact that they were a new nation being born and needed a sense of guidance. • 9. The Sixth Decade By Jonathan Schell GS 435 Book Review The Seventh Decade by Jonathan Schell By: Jordan Petruska Professor Tom Deligiannis Friday October 9, 2015 The nuclear bomb is an interesting phenomenon that has captured the fascination of scholars, academics, politicians, and the media to bring curiosity and fear together. The first and only use of nuclear weapons occurred in 1945 during the Second World War, wiping out over 200,000 Japanese civilians in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Nuclear bombs, were now viewed as the number one threat that could potentially destroy our planet and the human race. Since 1945 nuclear weapons have since been a strong threat that has imposed a psychological anxiety for world leaders as this threat has expanded to fifty countries with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The third and final proposal is taking greater action on the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty to confirm all nations are on the same playing field to dismantle nuclear weaponry. I plan on providing updated analysis in these issues as well. The Seventh Decade was written in 2007 and a lot has gone on since then in regards to nuclear activity and I plan on making it clear to the reader where the U.S. and the rest of the world stands. It has been seventy years since the last military nuclear bomb was successfully executed and many of us feel that nuclear threats have decedent or vanished, but Schell informs us that they are full of life. The Seventh Decade examines how the nuclear bomb has continued to cast a dark shadow over global politics and has advocated for the non proliferation of nuclear weapons. The book takes on a robust roadmap to a nuclear bomb free world that looks at the historical dark uncertainties of the Cold War, where the odds of a nuclear attack were extremely high during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis to the spread of nuclear knowledge and technology in the 1990s to unstable nations like Iraq and Pakistan, increasing the risk and fear of a nuclear war. Schell brings up some important foundational questions like what can be done? Where are we heading? Why has the nuclear threat been revived? The Seventh Decade calls into question for a global debate to end nuclear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Social Hierarchy In To Kill A Mockingbird Douglas Adams once wrote, Don t you understand that we need to be childish in order to understand? Only a child sees things with perfect clarity because it has not developed all those filters which prevent us from seeing things that we do not expect to see. To Kill a Mockingbird was written by Harper Lee and it examines the life of the residents of the fictional town of Maycomb through the eyes of a child. Incredibly paramount events in history largely shape the beliefs of the Maycombians. The story is set in the southern state of Alabama roughly seventy years after the end of the Civil War. Although slavery was abolished, the racial discrimination towards African Americans and the belief that white people were better than their darker counterparts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The adults of the town believed in the archaic system so firmly, their children were conditioned to grow up with the same futile beliefs. Jem sums up the entirety of the social system in the twenty third chapter when he states that: There s four kinds of folks in the world. There s the ordinary kind like us and the neighbors, there s the kind like the Cunninghams out in the woods, the kind like the Ewells down at the dump, and the Negroes. The Maycombians consistently abide by the status quo, and many of the citizens treat people of lower classes differently and often terribly. In the book, the community treated the Finches and their neighbors with extremely high regard. Even though Atticus gained a bad reputation because he defended a black man, the town s residents treated him better than those who were thought to be of subordinate classes. The Finches relation to the town founder, Simon Finch, also highly influenced the way others treated them. Atticus was a lawyer, and this was considered to be one of very few professional job positions held in the town. Jem classified the Finches, and the neighbors as one type of people, the common folk, and they were treated the best in the entire community because they had more money than the others and were more ... • 11. Plato The Shackles In Book 1 of Plato s The Republic, Socrates asks Cephalus about the difficulty of old age, as Cephalus has reached the threshold of death and is therefore suited to speak upon age. Cephalus explains that older people tend to be more peaceful because youthful desires like sex, partying, and drinking constrain many people to temporal pleasure, but age releases them from those shackles. These youthful desires are later treated as shackles that constrain many people to temporal pleasures. By introducing these metaphorical shackles in the first discussion of The Republic, Plato foreshadows and parallels the cave allegory that appears in Book 7 (Plato 3). In the cave allegory, people are chained inside a cave and their knowledge is limited to only what they can see: the images of shadows casted by statues. But once a philosopher enters, the prisoners are released from the shackles, exposed to the light, and they themselves become philosophers. But the process does not stop there; the new philosophers adopt altruism, going back to the cave to free the other prisoners ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He introduces the struggle of classism when he notes that age isn t easy for a good man if he s poor (3). This statement connecting age and class further demonstrates the timeless issue with money and material possessions in society. Plato states that money is a requirement for old age to be enjoyable and enlightening. But money is the same item that lures people into the chains of obsession. So those wishing to enjoy a pleasurable old age free from glutinous desire must maintain wealth. But wealth often diminishes character, causing people to become greedy and corrupt. An examination of Thomas Hardys The Darkling Thrush Essay An examination of Thomas Hardy s The Darkling Thrush The Darkling Thrush quot; is a poem occasioned by the beginning of a new year and a new century. It is formally precise, comprised of four octaves with each stanza containing two quatrains in hymn measure. The movement of the first two stanzas is from observation of a winter landscape as perceived by an individual speaker to a terrible vision of the death of an era that the landscape seems to disclose. The action is in how the apprehension of this particular moment of seeing changes as the emotional impact of the scene solidifies. I leant upon a coppice gate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The figure of the sun as a quot;weakening eye quot; is a personification, a trope resonating off Romantic associations such as Wordsworth s quot;eye of heaven quot; for the sun in quot;Resolution and Independence quot;. It establishes the poem s time as at the closing of a particular day at the end of a seasonal year. Whether the Romantic allusion to visionary powers and their ebbing is noted or not, it is a suggestive adjective for a time when seeing is becoming more difficult due to a reduction of light. As the poem moves further away from visual observation to emotional coloration, it replaces concrete detail with pathetic fallacy, a rhetorical device by which we, in Santayana s words quot;dye the world our own color quot; (Santayana, 159). The tangled bine stems scored the sky Like strings of broken lyres . . . The next two lines also have a Romantic link to Coleridge s aeolian harp and the music it made at another dusk when it exemplified Unity, quot;one Life within us and abroad/ Which meets all motion and becomes its soul quot;. A quot;wild harp quot; is also the image opening Coleridge s own quot;Ode to the Departing Year quot;, a poem in which the harp is unable to evoke a lasting hope (Coleridge, 56). • 13. Paul Bogard Let There Be Dark Summary In a world of ever growing developments, the blight of artificial lights is conquering the darkness of the night. To some, the fading darkness presents a major catastrophe towards human health, the ecosystem, and culture in general. One of these people is Paul Bogard. In his article, let there be dark, Bogard cleverly utilized devices such as statistics, imagery, and research findings across the world to illustrate that the removal of darkness from our nights only causes severe problems. Bogard first introduced the topic with a personal anecdote that described his experiences with darkness as a child. Imagery such as hands disappeared before my eyes and meteors left smoky trails evoked nostalgia among the readers. Suddenly, Bogard transitions from the romantic descriptions of the past night sky to cold hard statistics of the current generation. Statistics indicates that only 2/10 children in the US will know a sky dark enough for the Milky Way, brining awareness to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Diseases ranging from minor ailments such as sleep disorders to severe chronic issues such as diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer all root from the lack of darkness. Not only does the lack of darkness has taken a toll on some people s health, but the reduction has caused ecological collapse in parts of the world. Bogard clearly presents the point that many animal and plant species rely on the darkness of the night to perform their role in the ecosystem. Ecological functions such as pollination and pest control would simply collapse under light pollution, the bulldozer of the night. • 14. How The Behaviours And Body Languages Of Males And Females... On November 13, I decided to analyze how the behaviours and body languages of males and females during a bus ride by using participant observation as my method of collecting data (also commonly known as ethnographic field notes). I did this experiment by taking the Translink #49 bus from the University of British Columbia bus loop at 1 PM in the afternoon to the final stop, Metrotown Station and rode the same bus back to campus at 6 PM in the evening. I believe the data I have gathered from this observation is very interesting because in Canada, there is an emphasis on closing the sex gap between males and females by showing that there are little or no differences (excluding the physical sense) between the two. Therefore, I was curious if there were behavioural and social variations between the two sexes in an open space, and I thought that observing other people s actions and body languages on a public transportation like the bus would be able to answer my questions if there were differences . I would argue that we can learn a lot from the way we act through the patterns I have seen and use that to be more conscious about our actions when we hop on a bus ride. Originally, I expected to find little difference between the two sexes, because I did not anticipate that humans would act differently due to their sex in a closed space that they had to stay in for a temporary amount of time. However, my findings have shown that there are varying patterns of behaviour between males ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Analysis Of The Monotheistic Religion Of Judaism Judaism is one of the most controversial and known religions in the world. Judaism plays a major role in history, as it almost went extinct during the reign of one of the most brutal people to ever live. But many people don t know much about the religion, just that it went through tough times or took brutal events during war time. I believe that it is good to inform others about the monotheistic religion of Judaism and it s beliefs, because many people ask the same question : How does the Jewish religion differ from Catholicism? There are many ways to answer this question, but I will deconstruct this by developing 3 different questions to analyse not only the main question, but to analyse Judaism as a whole. What is the Jews opinion of Jesus? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of a similarity is their belief in one God. Both religions are monotheistic and believe in one true divine being. But even this common belief of the two religions has been broken down further. Although both believe that God the holy one, Judaism does not accept the popular belief of the Holy Trinity. The Holy Trinity is the three very important sections of beings that make up God: The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. Judaism insists on the notion of believing in ONE God, being strictly monotheistic. As Judaism understands this idea, God cannot be made up of parts, even if those parts are mysteriously united. The Christian notion of trinitarianism is that God is made up of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Such a view, even if called monotheistic because the three parts are, by divine mystery, only one God, is incompatible with the Jewish view that such a division is not possible. • 17. Misreadings In Atonement The article written by Martin Jacobi, Who Killed Robbie and Cecilia? Reading and Misreading Ian McEwan s Atonement, is very critical and analytical about how McEwan chose to allow for misreadings in the novel Atonement, and the potential dangerous effects of allowing that. Jacobi focuses on Briony, the narrator of the novel, as the one who is the source of Who killed Robbie and Cecilia? It is Briony s misreadings of situations depicted in the novel that forces Robbie to be wrongfully imprisoned, and sent off to war. Likewise, Briony wrongfully separates her sister, Cecilia, from her beloved Robbie. However, Briony knows that she is wrong in her accusations. Because of this, Briony searches for atonement. She looks to herself for atonement, through her writing. It is her therapeutic writing that allows Briony to forgive herself (Jacobi 62 63). He argues that at the heart of Briony s writings are the misreadings that have continued to plague the work as a whole. Ultimately, Martini is against misreading ... James admiration for his mom reflects throughout the story while showing the readers the growth and development her character experienced as she went through life. Ruth McBride Jordan endured many heartbreaking hardships throughout her life, but nevertheless, had an innumerable amount of cheerful and zestful moments. She grew to be a remarkable woman; however, it was a long journey before she became that woman. Separating from her family, and leaving the South was one of the hardest choices she ever made, yet it was best for her, in order to move on and adjust her future for the better. A main factor in Ruth s life prosperity was her first husband, Andrew Dennis McBride, who taught her many important things and, in a sense, changed her entire lifestyle and outlook on the world. The last large impression that altered her life immensely in a way that led her character to mature, was the death of her beloved Dennis . These elements all highlight a point in this woman s life that caused a development in her personality. In her younger years, being a part of the Shilsky family was no easy task for Ruth. Religious groups and sects have used art to protest, idealize, and tell stories about their religion. They have used art to express their beliefs and thoughts to the world. According to the dictionary, art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. This emotional power inserted on each piece of art was meant to inspire and teach each believer about their religion. We can see this in different religions such as the Chinese religion, Confucianism. Crane shows the true nature of war by contrasting Henry Fleming s romantic expectations with the reality that he encounters. Horror on stage could be said to date back to the Ancient Greeks and their tales of incest, murder and revenge, only using the role of the messenger as narrator to the horrors that happened off stage. There is no denying that. America has had issues with foster care since it began about 160 years ago. It first began completely privatized, and as the federacy found ways to fund it, it gradually became entirely public. Yet, there has consistently been problems with its operations. There have been multiple attempts in the government to mend the problem, or at least help. A lot of these solutions have been disasters because the foster care system is not continuously overseen and regulated. Children are abused both physically and mentally, and will often age out more damaged than when they first entered the system. There is one particular solution that has come to the surface: privatizing the system again. However, this has never really brought any light to the problem, and even makes situations worse. The privatization of foster care is not an ethical solution to the dilemmas of the system because of the increase of abuse, undeniable deaths, and insurmountable corruption. The public sector of the foster care system has issues with abuse, and the private sector is experiencing an even higher rate of abuse (Therolf). The scope of his work is so large that some argue it unreasonable to accept his word as legitimate in0 certain fields. In Of Hospitality, Derrida describes and brings to the forefront one of the primary issues of cosmopolitan ethics; what is the appropriate approach to extending and receiving hospitality and what are the implications of such action? Through an intensive understanding of this work, Derrida eventually reaches the conclusion that the balance between being absolutely hospitable and conditionally hospitable is completely necessary. Is it more just and more loving to question or not to question? (Of Hospitality, 29). Each has the ability to corrupt the other but both are needed in order for hospitality and, in general, socially responsible behavior. Why this is important Hospitality cannot be practically applied without the host establishing some set of limits, but at the exact time these limits are created, the visitor/guest is put into a position of wanting in freedom. This is the aporia that Derrida is concerned with. According to Niall Lucy in A Derrida Dictionary; Aporia is a Greek term denoting a logical contradiction. I went to Kabale Uganda for a mission trip during my spring break of senior year. I was able to teach the students there for two weeks with my team and fell in love with it instantly. That trip spurred my desire to teach in less fortunate countries once I finish college. Once of the most significant differences between the Ugandan educational system and the American educational system that I saw was that access to education was so limited in Uganda. In 1997 Uganda initiated what they called Universal Primary Education (UPE), which aims to decrease poverty by making primary (elementary) school free, there by more accessible to it s students. (Bategeka and Okurut, 2006). The problem with UPE is that the government decides what schools will be part of the UPE program. Which means, the more remote areas may not have a school that is supported by UPE in walking distance. There is no other form of transportation for these students, it is highly uncommon for a family to own a car, and if they re extremely fortunate they may own a bicycle. This forces the students to go to a boarding school (Outreach Uganda, 2009). The boarding fees are around $2.00 in U.S. currency a semester. At first appeared to be very manageable to me until I was told while in Uganda that $2.00 in American currency converted to the Ugandan currency was roughly 2700 shillings That is more than my college tuition that theses families ...
