Sony s Strategy Towards the Music Industry Essay
Introduction: The apparent Apparent? Is it or isn t it? Do you have an opinion? Christopher Thacker
3/15/10 10:35 PM problem with Sony Music Entertainment is that they It not they. Christopher
Thacker 3/15/10 10:36 PM are not planning anything to advance in the new digital music world. Many
former CD buyers are now easily downloading music online from Sony s competitors and illegal

its music or not. Says who? Is this according to your research? Christopher Thacker 3/15/10 10:36 PM

At the beginning of 2009, 65 percent of purchases in the music market was still attributed to CD sales
(Whitney, 2009). On the other hand, our other research has shown strong predictions that CD
purchases will continue to steadily decline in the future. This means that Sony needs to find other
ways to sell their music. Sony has had many opportunities to tap into the online music market, but
they don t seem aggressive enough in their attempts to become a strong competitor. One year ago,
Sony partnered up with Wind Up Records with an ambition to stimulate their online sales with
computers and mobile phones (Digital Deal Expands Long term Pertnership, 2009). This would allow
them to compete with iTunes and the iPhone made by Apple. It has been over a year since that
partnership was formed, and there is no indication of anything like that happening anytime soon.
Furthermore, HP computers will soon include a European digital music software and they want to
distribute Sony s music since they are one of the largest record labels in the world. Their computers
account for almost twenty percent of the international PC market, which would be a great digital outlet
for Sony s music (HP signs deal to take on iTunes, 2010) Review APA citations. Christopher Thacker

Comparison of Pepsi and Coca Cola Financials
Comparison of Pepsi and Coca Cola Financials
Introduction
Coca Cola and Pepsi are the two most popular and widely recognized beverage brands in the world.
They have been competing in the soft drink sector for over a century and both companies enjoy a high
degree of brand consciousness globally. Both companies try to market as part of a lifestyle. Coca Cola
uses phrases such as Coke side of life in their website, while Pepsi uses phrases such as Hot stuff in
their web, to promote the idea that Pepsi is in sync with the cool side of life.
Ironically, both Pepsi and Coke have similar beginnings: both were created in the 19th century and
both were the results of the experimental work of innovative pharmacists. Coke was created in ...

Although Pepsi s dividend payout ratio is slightly lower than Coca Cola s, the difference is marginal.
(Finance)
The Dividend Payout Ratio means the percentage of earnings paid to shareholders in dividends. The
payout ratio provides an idea of how well earnings support the dividend payments. More mature
companies tend to have a higher payout ratio. This ratio is calculated as Dividends per share /
Earnings per share. The Dividend payout ratio for Coca Cola is 48.2% while PepsiCo is 34.8%
The price/earnings ratio (P/E) is the best known of the investment valuation indicators. It is the
measure of the share price relative to the annual net income earned by the firm per share. The P/E ratio
has its imperfections, but it is nevertheless the most widely reported and used valuation by investment
professionals and the investing public. The financial reporting of both companies and investment
research services use a basic earnings per share (EPS) figure divided into the current stock price to
calculate the P/E multiple (i.e. how many times a stock is trading (its price) per each dollar of EPS). A
high PE ratio generally indicates increased demand because investors anticipate earnings growth in the
future. The PE ratio has units of years, which can be interpreted as the number of years of earnings to
pay back purchase price. The price/earnings ratio for Coca Cola is 12.97 while PepsiCo is 16.24.

The Sunflower Analysis
If someone were to partake in the murdering of your own kind, would you be able to forgive them?
That is the question that Simon Wiesenthal must ask himself in the story The Sunflower , a book about
pain and forgiveness. The Sunflower follows Simon as he listens to Karl, a former SS officer, confess
and ultimately beg for forgiveness for the war crimes he committed. It pits Simon against a very
difficult situation and even makes the reader consider what they would do. So, from reading The
Sunflower and all of the supplemental essays, I can come to the conclusion that I do believe that the
Soldier should be forgiven because he was brainwashed by propaganda and felt strong regret for his
actions. First and foremost are the ideas of Dith Pran and Franz Konig. Starting with Dith Pran, a
Cambodian refugee during the time of the Khmer Rouge. This government was responsible for the
deaths of hundreds of thousands, including Dith s father, brothers, and sister. While one may think
Dith possessed anger for the people who did this to him, he actually stated, I can forgive the soldiers
of the Khmer Rouge. Those who actually did the killing, although I can never forget what they did . . .
Why? I have always felt like the soldiers were trapped . . . they were taught to kill. They were
brainwashed. More importantly, they were forced to kill . Dith s philosophy is one of anger towards a
higher power. In his case it was the leaders of the Khmer Rouge but in Simon it would be his general

The Curriculum And Curriculum For Excellence Essay
Early childhood education curriculums are becoming a national curriculum in most countries. With
more governments and society thinking about education of under fives we are seeing shifts in thinking
and education to meet the changing world. We are developing children skills for the future to create a
society where children feel they belong and can contribute to society. Curriculums are being
influenced my social, political, cultural, historical and theoretical issues that are impacting different
curriculums in the world. I am going to explore and develop my understanding about three different
curriculums to recognise the different influences affecting curriculums. I am going to explore the
curriculums of Te Whāriki: New Zealand, Belonging, Being and Becoming: The Early Years Learning
Framework for Australia and Curriculum for Excellence: Scotland. This will allow me to develop an
understanding of other curriculums which I have not heard about to discover other way to education
that I have not been taught in teacher s college.
Te Whāriki New Zealand
In 1840 the Māori chiefs and the English crown signed the Treaty of Waitangi which showed the dual
heritage between the cultures and to develop a partnership to develop a shared future as we have
today. This historical event has big impacts on Te Whāriki the way it was created with both Māori and

Laura Keene s The American Theater Business
Mary Frances Moss, better known as Laura Keene, is a British woman who took the American theatre
business by storm. Laura Keene is truly an inspiration. With her roots as an incredibly talented actress,
Laura Keene managed to branch out and accomplish many incredible feats that no one thought
possible for a woman in her time. She was the first woman in the United States to manage her own
theatre company, and although all of the odds were stacked against her, she came out triumphant. Her
legacy is one of hope, and the promise that anyone can achieve greatness so long as they never give
up.
On July 20th, 1826, in the city of Winchester, England, Mary Frances Moss was born. Her parents,
Jane Moss and Thomas King were ecstatic to be welcoming their fourth child into the world, and their
other children, Edward, Hannah, and Thomas, were all equally excited to meet the newest edition to
their family. Jane Moss was revered as a well educated woman, and wanted to raise her children to be
just as knowledgeable as she. Inspired particularly by Mary Wollstonecraft s writings on the
controversial topic of women s education, Jane Moss strongly believed in educating her daughters just
as meticulously as her sons. Mary was described as being a sunny little girl with auburn hair and large,
honey brown eyes; she could always be found with her nose in a book, and oftentimes, she would
practice reciting Shakespeare, and rehearsing until her performance was flawless. In addition to her

ABORIGINAL AREAApproximately 700 BC, the Osage tribe started in the Ohio and Mississippi
river valley (extending into present day Kentucky). The Osage Tribe has been in North America for
thousands of years, but French explorers first discovered them around 1675. It is thought that they are
descendants of various cultures of indigenous people. After the 16th century, the tribe migrated west
of the Mississippi when wars with the Iroquois tribe over hunting lands occurred. The word Osage is a
French variation of the tribe s name, which can roughly be translated as warlike . In the early 19th
century, the Osage Nation, which comprised two bands, the Great Osage and the Little Osage, had a
population of about 5,500 when they were forcibly

The Impact of Urban Legends Throughout History and Around the World
Urban legends have always intrigued me. I am unsure if it is the scare factor that intrigues me, the way
in which some of them are told, or some of the lessons that are supposed to be taken from them but
one thing I know for sure is that I do not stand alone in this belief. In fact urban legends are told all
over the world, even in countries that many have never heard of before. Many people of all
backgrounds find them to be mystifying and sometimes even alarming. It seems as if urban legends
have the ability to draw any person in ranging from a young child to the typical adult male. Whether

With all of this information collected, I was able to begin to analyze my notes and findings. While
conducting my research, I found that urban legends have existed since the beginning of time in all
different kinds of cultures and societies around the world. One example of this would be the Incas.
The idea of urban legends in Inca society played a key role throughout many people s lives. Legends
of early rulers in Inca society were some of the most common this clearly reflecting how important the
rule of some of these leaders initially were. In fact it has been observed that these urban legends
reflect many of the preoccupations of the Incas wars and alliances, imperial expansion and dynastic
succession (Cavendish 347). Other early legends originated in the West in classical Greek and Roman
society. It has been said that when interpreting legends, Greeks themselves valued them not only as
entertaining stories, but on one level at least, as examples of the heights and depths at which human
nature is capable of reaching (Cavendish 154). A good example of this would be the Odyssey of
Odysseus. In his search for a homeland, Odysseus encountered many obstacles that

The Importance Of Interracial Relationships
Over the years, interracial relationships and marriages have become more common. In fact, the United
States Supreme Court legalized interracial marriages in 1967. New polls show that high numbers of
whites are marrying the blacks. These marriages have become more popular among the recent
generations. It is your granddaughter, ReAnna Reynolds, and I am writing this because it is an issue
that affects me personally. You do not accept interracial relationships. That is troubling to me because
my boyfriend of four years is a black man. You both should accept non blacks marrying blacks
because it is becoming more common, I am in a biracial relationship, and I long for your approval.
Interracial relationships/marriages have increased substantially in America over the past few years.
While black families tend to be more accepting of the interracial relationships and white partner, white
families are more reluctant to accept the mix of white and black races. In 2010, there were a total of
390,000 couples that consisted of a black husband and white wife. One large reason why people tend
to not agree with interracial relationships is because of the mental abuse and bullying towards biracial
children. However, the majority of people who ever speak their opinions on mixed children are ones
from the older generation. This is alarming to me due to my future children being biracial. I am a
white woman in a long term relationship with a black male. His name is Davion Maxwell. You do not

Home Descriptive Essay
My definition for home indescribable by words or by a simple thought, but home is rather of a feeling.
Home is the calmness and serenity that settles over me like a blanket on a cold snowy night, just a
silent assurance telling me I belong there. It took me quite a bit of time to understand where exactly
that place is, and I didn t know that the answer was always right in front of me. This feeling would
come and go, and I would never recognize it because I knew that only the house I lived in was my
home. Home is in fact more than what the words in the dictionary say.
When I was younger, I lived in the Philippines, my backyard were the rice fields and I would always
play hide and seek with all my friends behind the trees. But there was one tree I can never forget it
was a big guayacan tree that grew on a little hill. It was a very old tree and I loved how it blossomed
yellow flowers. Whenever the wind blew, its beautiful golden petals fell as if they were snow. I would
always run as fast as I could before the last petal falls, I loved being covered with them. I loved it so
much that I would sometimes even fall asleep feeling the yellow blanket under the warmth of sunshine
beneath the peaceful skies. I dreamt of climbing the tree all the way up the skies, reaching for the
clouds. Naive and carefree; my childhood this was my home.
When it was time for harvest, I would always run around the rice fields watching all the farmers cut
rice plants. I can depict

Small Body Of Water And Its Effect On The Ecosystem Essay

reservation is located in the city of Lyndhurst. Lyndhurst is an eastern suburb of Cleveland and was
originally apart of Mayfield. It is located in the county of Cuyahoga, Ohio, United States. The
population was 14,001 at the 2010 census and is a total of 4.44 miles. The ratio of people per mile is
approximately 3,153 per square mile, thus it has a relatively high density of people. Acacia reservation
is a 155 acre green space located in the city Lyndhurst. The specific area on which this paper focuses
is the central area of the park where on the map a small body of water can be seen. While observations
were made in various other areas this is where the majority of the study took place. This body of water
is approximately four hundred yards from the roadway on both sides. The Acacia Reservation has
several abiotic factors that directly affect the ecosystem, some of those are sunlight, temperature,
rainfall, wind speeds, and rocks. Sunlight directly affects the ecosystem as it distributes energy to
plants and also affects the temperature. Sunlight is extremely important because it forms the basis of
the food chain as it allows some plants to survive and others to die because of a lack of it. Temperature
is another example of abiotic factor that directly affects the ecosystem as it provides or inhibits a
livable temperature for animals within the

The Factors Of The Great Fog Of 1952
THE GREAT SMOG OF 1952
I. FACTS OF THE GREAT SMOG OF 1952
A thick fog engulfed London from December 5 to December 9, 1952. It mixed with black smoke
emitted from homes and factories to create a deadly smog. This smog killed approximately 12,000
people and was the catalyst for the introduction of environmental laws.
Smog was a regular occurrence in London, but the smog that formed from Friday 5 December to
Tuesday 9 December 1952 was different. On 5 December during the day, the fog was not particularly
dense. However, during the night it thickened greatly resulting in very low visibility. On the 6th
December, there was not sufficient sunlight to clear the fog. The fog proceeded to intensify its
thickness over the next few days. The fog became ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem comes about because both the polluter and the victim think they are justified in their
opinions and actions. As a result of this impasse, the market doesn t find a solution because no one has
the property rights to something like air or noise pollution. The role of the legal system in the Coase
Theorem is to simply decide who gets the property rights. Because bargaining is assumed to be free, it
doesn t matter who gets the property rights. If they are assigned to either the polluter or the victim, the
market will always find an efficient outcome.
IV. APPLYING COASE THEOREM TO THE GREAT SMOG OF 1952
There is a negative externality because the smog clearly causes external damage that is inflicted upon
the general public of London. The factories are not bearing the entire cost of producing their goods
because they are not paying for proper waste disposal. Factories were emitting harmful pollutants into
the atmosphere which has a negative social cost because it was making people ill and causing deaths.
The pollution (smog) is an externality, as the pollution from the factories imposed a cost on people
who may have been neither consumers nor producers of these items. This is a legitimate externality
because the property rights of air are not assigned to anyone. It would be efficient to allow the
factories to pollute if the value of operating the factory was greater than the pollution cost imposed on
the general public in

There are many areas and factors to how Russia developed into an Enlightened Absolute and

wider picture; how the Romanovs established authority, what was the significant changes in the

This year of travelling encouraged and influenced Peter into making Russia a great nation. M.S

corresponds with Lucy Worsley ( Reinventing Russia , Empire of the Tsars: Romanov Russia with
Lucy Worsley, BBC FOUR, 10/01/2016, London). As Lucy Worsley talks about in the TV Show, this
year of Peter travelling incognito is the year that changed Russia forever . However, whether this
improved politics, the economy and the social attitude in Russia is still open to debate among
historians. An argument that is still put in place today is the main Westernisation came from Catherine

Epistemology or theory of knowledge is a branch of philosophy related to the scope and nature of
knowledge. The subject focuses on examining the nature of knowledge, and how it relates to beliefs,
justification, and truth. Epistemology contract with the means of production of knowledge, as well as
skepticism about different knowledge claims. Epistemology is the philosophical investigation into this
question: What can we know? The question, at first, seems pretty simple: It seems pretty obvious that

The school is best understood as the product of two movements in ancient Greek philosophy.
Skepticism can be attributed to Socrates and to Plato s successors at The Academy in Athens (5th to
2nd century BC). Pyrrhonism can be traced back to Pyrrho of Ellis(365 275 BC). Skepticism can be
found in many other schools of ancient philosophy from Heraclitus to Cyrenaics and the Cynics
Socrates was placed at the origins of Skepticism. It was understood that he only asked questions and
never taught positive doctrines, many sought to attempt to make sense of his seemingly paradoxical
claim that the one thing he knew was that he knew nothing. (Gascoigne, 2002) Plato and Aristotle
strayed from Socrates path when they claimed to know the truth. Plato viewed knowledge as an
awareness of absolute and existing independent of any subject trying to apprehend to the philosophers.
Though, Aristotle put more emphasis on logical and empirical methods for gathering knowledge.
Aristotle still accepts the view of such knowledge is an apprehension of necessary principles. Around
the Renaissance period, the two main epistemological positions dominated in philosophy are
empiricism, in which sees knowledge as the product of sensory perception, and rationalism sees
epistemology as the product of rational reflection (Tempo). Another philosopher by the name of
Arcesilaus, gave a renewed form of skepticism, arguing against the opinions of all men. Arcesilaus
also claimed that skeptics could make

Rise Of The Texas Republican Party
Rise of the Texas Republican Party
For decades, the state of Texas was Democratic and then suddenly in 1998 the state flipped to
Republican. Currently, Texas is the boldest Republican state in the country. For so long it was
Democrat and strongly so but it has been Republican now since the nineties. The big question
surrounding this topic is what happened to make it flip suddenly? Well, research provided a very
strong answer that I didn t expect to find. In 1988 two people were voted in that changed everything
for Republicans; Kent Hance and Judge Thomas Phillips were the first republicans voted in since the
Reconstruction. This kick started a Republican makeover of the state that all through the nineties
Texans saw Republicans overtaking Democrats in every area. To understand how this went down in
the nineties there must be an examination of the past. The Democratic party was the face of Texas for
a century until the Republicans came back stronger than ever.
First and foremost, Texas was not colonized by British settlers. This has always made it stand out as a
fiercely independent territory then later a state. The individuals who shaped and formed Texas did so
in such a way to hold tightly onto its fierce independence. This fierce independence was fueled
throughout the first several decades of Texas existence due to invading foreign armies and the daily
struggles of just surviving in the Wild West. Because of this, the people of Texas developed strong
work ethics and a

Modernization And Development Towards Democracy
This research paper uncovers the study of modernization and how it correlates to political
development towards democracy. First, it examines the development and origins of the modernization
theory that encompass a number of explanations that connect economic, social and cultural changes
with shifts in political systems. Modernization puts forth the idea that economic development will lead
to cultural and social changes that transform the political behavior of a country s citizens that can
ultimately lead to democratic governments. Subsequently, the paper moves to the empirical evidence
supporting the modernization theory and critiquing the theory s broader applicability. Some critics
would suggest that certain types of economic development could actually destabilize society, rather
than progressing the cultural and social components that provide the starting point for democratic
societies. Meanwhile, others have advocated that wealth does not explain the emergence of
democracy, and that the likelihood that a country remains democratic is higher in richer countries.
Finally, it will look into future avenues in research on the correlation between political development
and modernization. Modernization theory refers to a set of explanations that link economic
development and social changes with the type of political regime that emerges. As countries
economically modernize, they shift from agricultural to industrial societies. Industrialization results in

Mundane humans are outnumbered in Pompeii, and not a single member of the Council or Listeners is

One quirk of having such a high population of apeiron is a consequence of their psychic connection.

Opportunity cost is another important concept in making financial decisions. For example, if an asset
such as capital is used for one purpose, the opportunity cost is the value of the next best purpose the
asset could have been used for (Web Finance, Inc., 2007). Opportunity cost can also be referred to as
rate of return. A rate of return is the total income per period per dollar invested (Brealey, Myers
Marcus, 2003). To do this the formula i = ( FV / PV) (1/n) 1 can be used (Getobjects.com, 2004).
Opportunity cost is the benefit or cash flow forgone as a result of an action (Brealey, Myers Marcus,
2003). An annuity is a sequence of equally spaced levels of cash flows (Brealey, Myers Marcus,
2003). Some examples are car payments, loans, mortgages, or utilities. Annuities can be set monthly,
bi monthly, weekly, quarterly or annually. The payments or receipts occur at the end of each period for
an ordinary annuity while they occur at the beginning of each period for an annuity due
(Getobjects.com, 2004). There are two places that annuities fall under, present and future. The present
value of an ordinary annuity is the value of equally spaced payments in the future (Brealey, Myers
Marcus, 2003). Which can be calculated as PVoa = PMT [(1 (1 / (1 + i)n)) / i] PVoa = Present Value of
an Ordinary Annuity, PMT = Amount of each payment, i = Discount Rate per Period, and n = Number
of Periods (Getobjects.com, 2004). The present value of an annuity

Compare And Contrast Alice And Pecola
It sounds weird to say this but one of my favorite conflicts in the story is when Pecola is being bullied
by some boys in school, they kept calling her names when Freida and Claudia came to defend her.
Their attempt doesn t help, but when a pretty girl named Maureen chimes in the boys leave. Then the
girls stroll around in the city and get ice cream. They start to converse and Pecola slips out that she has
seen her father naked. Maureen starts making fun of Pecola and it makes her feel uncomfortable, that s
when Freida and Claudia chase Maureen away. This showed a strong unity of their friendship. They
stuck up for her and made her feel wanted. Blue eyes seem to revolve around this novel; it is what
Americans see as beautiful. Other characters think of blue eyes differently. For example, Claudia hates
the blue eyes of her white dolls and doesn t like the fact that this is the only way for people to see you
as beautiful. For Pecola having blue eyes is something she would die for. She believes that if she had
blue eyes her life would have turned out differently, her parents would have loved her, her classmates
wouldn t make fun of her, and someone would tell her she was beautiful. Because of Pecola s low self
esteem as a poor black child she does not believe in her own beauty. She spends her life praying for a
miracle that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

how lowly they are viewed in society. Females can be seen as unworthy or nothing without a man if
they are not advocating them and are constantly being treated differently from men. However, in the
book, The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, they live up to their reputations for how they view
themselves. Specifically, being focused on women like Pecola, and Claudia. They are often

We will say no. We don t know what we should feel or do if she does, but whenever she asks us, we
know she is offering something precious (Morrison, 24). This quote shows how prepared a woman is
to give up her body in exchange for her life because perhaps she does not value herself and has gone
through many situations like this. This event may lead to female s perspective of their worth decrease,
since they are constantly being abused. In the course of The Bluest Eye, Pecola Breedlove has shown
signs of low self esteem. She would always be the one to compare herself to something she admires to

Her desire to be beautiful is not having attractive long black hair and golden skin color, but blonde

Essay on Mixing Music and Politics
Many have thought the entertainment world should be separate from the world of politics. Some
celebrities go on to be involved in politics, such as Ronald Reagan and Sonny Bono, but rarely does
an entertainer command a large sphere of influence in the world of entertainment and politics
simultaneously. While entertainers can move the masses, their voice is usually discarded among
politicians. In addition to this, many have highlighted the negative influence of the entertainment
industry, and particularly rock music, on American culture. Often, it is seen as a corrupting force that
leads people astray. For many people, rock and roll seems to highlight all that is wrong with American
popular culture. These critics fail to take note of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each year, new books declare rock and roll to be an active force in the moral collapse of American
culture. To many, rock and roll has come to be seen as a social menace (Pattison 175 77).
Rock Music has traditionally, among political authorities, been viewed as a medium that has the
potential to bring about unrest and revolution among listeners. Even in its early stages, rock music has
been seen as a threat to the stability of society. In a 1968 Time magazine article, Robert Sam Ansons
declared rock music to be one long symphony of protest...the proclamation of a new set of values...the
anthem of revolution (qtd. in Wicke 103). While the comment acknowledges the influential potential
that rock and roll has, it views it negatively. Similarly, politicians have been out spoken against rock
and pop musicians, declaring they have a negative effect on society. In the mid 1990 s, during
presidential election campaigns, Bob Dole and Bill Clinton both declared that rock and roll plays a
part in the corruption of American youth (Christenson 2). Historically, many politicians have seen
rock and roll as being in opposition to positive political change.
In the late 1970s, Larry Mullen Jr. posted a message in Mount Temple High School, located in Dublin,
Ireland, that would change the course of music history and plant the seed of a

The Struggle to Belong and Find One’s Place Is Significant...
The struggle to belong and find one s place is significant in the lives of some people.
In what ways is this represented in your prescribed text and ORT? PHOEBE ATKINSON
A person s basic human need to belong to people, places and circumstances can fuel many of their
actions throughout their life. For some people a sense of belonging can be difficult to obtain. The
struggle to belong is represented in many ways in the 1998 memoir, Romulus, My Father by Raimond
Gaita. Through Gaita s employment of various writing techniques and his recollection of past events
and adversities, the reader becomes aware of the many struggles of the characters, particularly to
belong to the Australian culture and landscape. In the 2001 short story Mate , ... Show more content on

The imagery formed by group of men glaring at Will from inside the car, further alienates him as he
truly appears an outsider . This is similar to how Romulus lack of understanding of the Australian
landscape continuously reinforces him as a foreigner, exposes him to ridicule and prevents him from
belonging in society, such as when Romulus caused a fire that burnt 20 hectares of his neighbors
property. The use of an intertextual reference to Dorothea Mackellar s poem My Country shows how
even though Will thought he had sufficient knowledge of, and belonging to Australian society, his lack
of first hand experience and true understanding of real country life disables him from belonging to
Boolowa and its people. Even Will s attempts to fit in by buying the Akubra and the elastic sided boots
were futile because his city bugger aura was obvious to the country folk .
Differences in a person s social context and hobbies can sometimes create barriers to belong to a
community. In Romulus, My Father a comparison is drawn between Raimond and typical Australian
farm boys, I had virtually no interest in farm life... (p.60) and ...I was the only boy in the area who did
not kill rabbits... These comparisons alienated Raimond and perhaps disabled him from creating
strong friendships with the farm boys because of a lack of common interests. Later in the story
Raimond recognised

The Crime Of Money Laundering
1.0 Background of study
Over a long period of time, corruption has been the focal point of every government, media and
academics globally. Through money laundering, proceeds of crime can be disguised. Proceeds of
crime can simply be put as money earned from profit oriented crime. The methods used are many and
highly complicated. Corruption is one of the organised crime which is said to be primarily associated
with the laundering of proceeds through money laundering. Technological tools accord further
chances for individuals to employ money laundering as a process of cleaning up dirty money and
obscure the trail leading back to the underlying crime.
The crime of money laundering has been illustrated by many as the means of support for many crimes
and is a main threat to the economic and social security of societies. These activities have become a
global problem in the second half of the 20th century similar to the fiery increase of drug trade. The
term has been extensively acknowledged and popularly being employed globally.
Often, as it is known that the origins of criminal proceeds were from drug trafficking, many law
enforcers have now expanded their application to offences such as human trafficking, cybercrime,
illegal arms sales and smuggling. Many countries such as Malaysia, United Kingdom, Australia,
United States of America and Switzerland have given due consideration over prevention of money
laundering, especially in relation to corruption.

The Effect Of Concentration On Rate Of Reaction With...
How does changing the concentration of Hydrochloric acid affect its rate of reaction with Sodium
Thiosulphate?
Introduction/aim the aim of this experiment is to see how changing the concentration of hydrochloric
acid would change its rate of reaction with Sodium Thiosulphate. This was done by changing the
concentration of Hydrochloric acid to 4 different concentrations and adding them to the same amount
of sodium thiosulphate. This is done in different beakers that will previously be placed over a piece of
paper marked with an x. Once the reaction fully takes place, the x would no longer be visible therefore
the time it takes for the x to no longer be visible is our dependent variable.
Hypothesis the hypothesis is that as the concentration is increased, the rate of reaction will increase,
but the time will decrease. This is because if the concentration is higher, there will be more of the
sodium thiosulphate, therefore the reaction will take less time as the two mixtures will collide at a
higher frequency. The trend in the graphs that will be later plotted will not be directly proportional.
Graph 1 ( concentration vs time ) has a negative correlation and graph 2 ( concentration vs rate ) has a
positive correlation. This is because as the concentration is increased the time will decrease, that s why
graph 1 will have a negative correlation. Graph 2 will have a positive correlation as rate will be
1/time, therefore the graph flips. Neither of the graphs will be directly

What Is The Difference Between James Bond And James Bond
Who would win?Two of the greatest super spies are pinned up against one another, and only one can

this debate, I will be comparing the Daniel Craig Era Bond (for reference; these films include Casino
Royale [2006], Quantum Of Solace, Skyfall, and Spectre) and Jason Bourne as he appears in these
three films: The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, and The Bourne Ultimatum. These iconic
characters have many similarities and differences, but I m going to explain to you why BLANK is
better, based on their place in pop culture; their skills; such as martial arts training, gadgets, and spy
capabilities; friends/allies; and complexity as an overall character. James Bourne s pop culture
presence is significantly lacking compared to James Bond. Bourne simply hasn t been around long
enough to establish its place in the eyes of younger viewers. James Bond has always been an iconic
character in pop culture, however this new iteration of Bond hasn t quite hit the mark of an icon as
some other past Bonds have. Yet, every time a new Bond movie comes out, audiences are ripe with
anticipation. You just can t say the same about Jason Bourne. Although Bourne is an American, the
Brit has a more powerful and iconic pop culture presence. The two spies have similar training in
martial arts; both are very skilled, and experienced fighters. However, Bourne s usage of objects

The Rise Of Constantinople
After the 4th century when Constantinople emerged as a great capital and church center, tensions
sometimes arose between its leaders and the bishop of Rome. After the fall of Rome to Germanic
invaders in 476, the Roman pope was the only guardian of Christian universalism in the West. He
began more explicitly to attribute his dominance to Rome s being the burial place of Saint Peter,
whom Jesus had called the rock on which the church was to be built. The Eastern Christians respected
that tradition and recognized the Roman patriarch to a measure of honorable authority. But they never
believed that this authority allowed the papacy to overrule another church or that it made the pope into

They ended in failure. The papal claims to ultimate supremacy could not be reconciled with the
conciliar principle of Orthodoxy, and the religious differences were aggravated by other cultural and
political misunderstandings.
After the Ottoman Empire conquered Constantinople in 1453, the Islamic government recognized the
ecumenical patriarch of that city as both the religious and the political spokesman for the entire
Christian population of the empire. With the decline of the Ottoman Empire during the 19th century,
the patriarchate of Constantinople, although still retaining its honorary primacy in the Orthodox
Church, lost its political power over the other Orthodox churches. With the liberation of the Orthodox
peoples from Ottoman rule, a succession of autocephalous churches was then set up in Greece,
Romania, Bulgaria, and Serbia.
The Orthodox Church in Russia, seeing the advancing tide of Islamic power in the East, declared its
independence from Constantinople in 1448, five years before the fall of Constantinople to the
Ottomans. In 1589 the patriarchate of Moscow was established and formally recognized by Patriarch
Jeremias II of Constantinople. For the Russian people and their tsars, Moscow had become the so

The Effects Of Water Pollution On The World And It...
Water pollution is one of the most undesirable environmental problems in the world and it requires
solutions. Textile industries produce a lot of wastewater, which contains a number of contaminants,
including acidic or caustic dissolved solids, toxic compounds, and any different dyes, many of these
dyes are carcinogenic, mutagenic, and toxic to human beings, fish species, and microorganisms.
Hence, their removal from aquatic wastewater becomes environmentally important.
There are several methods available for color removal from waters and wastewaters such as
membrane separation, aerobic and anaerobic degradation using various microorganisms, chemical
oxidation, coagulation and flocculation, and reverse osmosis. Some of these techniques have been
shown to be effective however they have some limitations such as excess amount of chemical usage,
accumulation of concentrated sludge that has serious disposal problems and lack of effective color
reduction. The adsorption technique, which is based on the transfer of pollutants from the solution to
the solid phase, is known as one of the efficient and general wastewater treatment method
The method is superior to other dye removal techniques in terms of initial cost, simplicity of design,
ease of operation, and non toxicity of the utilized adsorbents compared to other conventional
wastewater treatment methods.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Transfersomes
The name is derived from the Latin word transferre which means to carry across and the Greek word
soma means body means carrying body . Transfersomes, a novel class of modified liposomes, was
first reported by Cevc [Cevc et al; 1992] and are described as deformable, elastic or ultra flexible
liposomes or vesicles [Benson; 2006]. They are claimed to improve in vitro transdermal delivery of a
variety of drugs. The deformability possessed by transfersomes is the outcome of incorporation of an
edge activator within the phospholipid bilayers and this improves elasticity by means of lipid bilayer
destabilization [Dubey et al; 2007]. Commonly used edge activators are single chain surfactants such
as sodium cholate and Tween 80. It is well known that barrier of stratum corneum prevent hydrophilic
and large molecular drugs through skin but transfersomes are able to squeeze through conduits one

During my time observing the Summer Scholars Program, I witnessed many topics that I have studied
from the book throughout class come to life. I saw the diversity of the students, and got to involve
myself in teacher student interaction. Intrinsic and extrinsic motivators played a big part in the lessons.
The students were involved in discussions small group and whole group. I also realized how important
teacher efficacy is and what a large role it plays in the rapport of the classroom.

The instructor played a song by Eminem, and a trailer from his movie. Afterwards, she explained the
lyrics of the song, and held a discussion about how the artist did not let his geography define his
destiny. I thought this was such a great idea. The students were then given an Ipad and asked to look
up a song that meant the most to them, and they would be able to play the song and share it with the
class. This directly exemplified motivation/incentive to me. It was motivation, in the sense that they
wanted to use the Ipad and look up music to show the class their favorite song. Intrinsic motivation to
be exact. The Journal of Education For Business defines intrinsic motivation as an activity whose
initial impulse originates from self motivation , (Rassuli, 2012, 86.) This was obviously portrayed,
because the students liked the activity they were participating in, so they voluntarily did it without any
prize or reward at the end. I also saw examples of extrinsic motivation during my time there. A short
quiz was done at the beginning of class based on the lesson from the previous day. Each student was
given a card that said true or false, and was asked to hold up his or her answer when the question was
asked. The game started off slow, it was the end of the day and the students were just not cooperating.
The teacher then said, You will get a prize if you win, it s behind this box. Just like that, the students
started throwing their signs up and trying to beat each other for the right answers. I learned that

Explain The Challenges That Esperanza Faced In Esperanza...
Mexican immigrants faced discrimination, hard labor, and low wages. In Esperanza Rising by Pam

uneducated, dirty, poor, and unskilled. Esperanza was kinda confused about why they tfhink that she
was uneducated. She also seemed kinda sad. On page 187 it says, Miguel, how could anyone look at

Christopher Thacker 3/15/10 10:35 PM problem with Sony Music Entertainment is that they It not they. Christopher Thacker 3/15/10 10:36 PM are not planning anything to advance in the new digital music world. Many former CD buyers are now easily downloading music online from Sony s competitors and illegal downloading sites. Also, Sony s record label is practically unknown to the public, whether people own its music or not. Says who? Is this according to your research? Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the beginning of 2009, 65 percent of purchases in the music market was still attributed to CD sales (Whitney, 2009). On the other hand, our other research has shown strong predictions that CD purchases will continue to steadily decline in the future. This means that Sony needs to find other ways to sell their music. Sony has had many opportunities to tap into the online music market, but they don t seem aggressive enough in their attempts to become a strong competitor. One year ago, Sony partnered up with Wind Up Records with an ambition to stimulate their online sales with computers and mobile phones (Digital Deal Expands Long term Pertnership, 2009). This would allow them to compete with iTunes and the iPhone made by Apple. It has been over a year since that partnership was formed, and there is no indication of anything like that happening anytime soon. Furthermore, HP computers will soon include a European digital music software and they want to distribute Sony s music since they are one of the largest record labels in the world. Their computers account for almost twenty percent of the international PC market, which would be a great digital outlet for Sony s music (HP signs deal to take on iTunes, 2010) Review APA citations. Christopher Thacker 3/15/10 10:37 PM . But again, there have been no indications of those plans progressing into anything. The operations may take a while, but Sony needs to act ... Comparison of Pepsi and Coca Cola Financials Comparison of Pepsi and Coca Cola Financials Introduction Coca Cola and Pepsi are the two most popular and widely recognized beverage brands in the world. They have been competing in the soft drink sector for over a century and both companies enjoy a high degree of brand consciousness globally. Both companies try to market as part of a lifestyle. Coca Cola uses phrases such as Coke side of life in their website, while Pepsi uses phrases such as Hot stuff in their web, to promote the idea that Pepsi is in sync with the cool side of life. (Finance) The Dividend Payout Ratio means the percentage of earnings paid to shareholders in dividends. The payout ratio provides an idea of how well earnings support the dividend payments. More mature companies tend to have a higher payout ratio. This ratio is calculated as Dividends per share / Earnings per share. The Dividend payout ratio for Coca Cola is 48.2% while PepsiCo is 34.8% The price/earnings ratio (P/E) is the best known of the investment valuation indicators. It is the measure of the share price relative to the annual net income earned by the firm per share. The P/E ratio has its imperfections, but it is nevertheless the most widely reported and used valuation by investment professionals and the investing public. The financial reporting of both companies and investment research services use a basic earnings per share (EPS) figure divided into the current stock price to calculate the P/E multiple (i.e. how many times a stock is trading (its price) per each dollar of EPS). A high PE ratio generally indicates increased demand because investors anticipate earnings growth in the future. The PE ratio has units of years, which can be interpreted as the number of years of earnings to pay back purchase price. The price/earnings ratio for Coca Cola is 12.97 while PepsiCo is 16.24. • 5. The Sunflower Analysis If someone were to partake in the murdering of your own kind, would you be able to forgive them? That is the question that Simon Wiesenthal must ask himself in the story The Sunflower , a book about pain and forgiveness. The Sunflower follows Simon as he listens to Karl, a former SS officer, confess and ultimately beg for forgiveness for the war crimes he committed. It pits Simon against a very difficult situation and even makes the reader consider what they would do. So, from reading The Sunflower and all of the supplemental essays, I can come to the conclusion that I do believe that the Soldier should be forgiven because he was brainwashed by propaganda and felt strong regret for his actions. First and foremost are the ideas of Dith Pran and Franz Konig. Starting with Dith Pran, a Cambodian refugee during the time of the Khmer Rouge. This government was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands, including Dith s father, brothers, and sister. While one may think Dith possessed anger for the people who did this to him, he actually stated, I can forgive the soldiers of the Khmer Rouge. Those who actually did the killing, although I can never forget what they did . . . Why? I have always felt like the soldiers were trapped . . . they were taught to kill. They were brainwashed. More importantly, they were forced to kill . Dith s philosophy is one of anger towards a higher power. In his case it was the leaders of the Khmer Rouge but in Simon it would be his general ... Laura Keene is truly an inspiration. With her roots as an incredibly talented actress, Laura Keene managed to branch out and accomplish many incredible feats that no one thought possible for a woman in her time. She was the first woman in the United States to manage her own theatre company, and although all of the odds were stacked against her, she came out triumphant. Her legacy is one of hope, and the promise that anyone can achieve greatness so long as they never give up. On July 20th, 1826, in the city of Winchester, England, Mary Frances Moss was born. Her parents, Jane Moss and Thomas King were ecstatic to be welcoming their fourth child into the world, and their other children, Edward, Hannah, and Thomas, were all equally excited to meet the newest edition to their family. Jane Moss was revered as a well educated woman, and wanted to raise her children to be just as knowledgeable as she. Inspired particularly by Mary Wollstonecraft s writings on the controversial topic of women s education, Jane Moss strongly believed in educating her daughters just as meticulously as her sons. Legends of early rulers in Inca society were some of the most common this clearly reflecting how important the rule of some of these leaders initially were. In fact it has been observed that these urban legends reflect many of the preoccupations of the Incas wars and alliances, imperial expansion and dynastic succession (Cavendish 347). Other early legends originated in the West in classical Greek and Roman society. It has been said that when interpreting legends, Greeks themselves valued them not only as entertaining stories, but on one level at least, as examples of the heights and depths at which human nature is capable of reaching (Cavendish 154). This feeling would come and go, and I would never recognize it because I knew that only the house I lived in was my home. Home is in fact more than what the words in the dictionary say. The factories are not bearing the entire cost of producing their goods because they are not paying for proper waste disposal. Factories were emitting harmful pollutants into the atmosphere which has a negative social cost because it was making people ill and causing deaths. The pollution (smog) is an externality, as the pollution from the factories imposed a cost on people who may have been neither consumers nor producers of these items. Skepticism can be attributed to Socrates and to Plato s successors at The Academy in Athens (5th to 2nd century BC). Pyrrhonism can be traced back to Pyrrho of Ellis(365 275 BC). Skepticism can be found in many other schools of ancient philosophy from Heraclitus to Cyrenaics and the Cynics Socrates was placed at the origins of Skepticism. It was understood that he only asked questions and never taught positive doctrines, many sought to attempt to make sense of his seemingly paradoxical claim that the one thing he knew was that he knew nothing. Currently, Texas is the boldest Republican state in the country. For so long it was Democrat and strongly so but it has been Republican now since the nineties. The big question surrounding this topic is what happened to make it flip suddenly? Well, research provided a very strong answer that I didn t expect to find. In 1988 two people were voted in that changed everything for Republicans; Kent Hance and Judge Thomas Phillips were the first republicans voted in since the Reconstruction. This kick started a Republican makeover of the state that all through the nineties Texans saw Republicans overtaking Democrats in every area. To understand how this went down in the nineties there must be an examination of the past. The Democratic party was the face of Texas for a century until the Republicans came back stronger than ever. First and foremost, Texas was not colonized by British settlers. This has always made it stand out as a fiercely independent territory then later a state. The individuals who shaped and formed Texas did so in such a way to hold tightly onto its fierce independence. First, it examines the development and origins of the modernization theory that encompass a number of explanations that connect economic, social and cultural changes with shifts in political systems. Modernization puts forth the idea that economic development will lead to cultural and social changes that transform the political behavior of a country s citizens that can ultimately lead to democratic governments. Subsequently, the paper moves to the empirical evidence supporting the modernization theory and critiquing the theory s broader applicability. Some critics would suggest that certain types of economic development could actually destabilize society, rather than progressing the cultural and social components that provide the starting point for democratic societies. Meanwhile, others have advocated that wealth does not explain the emergence of democracy, and that the likelihood that a country remains democratic is higher in richer countries. Finally, it will look into future avenues in research on the correlation between political development and modernization. To do this the formula i = ( FV / PV) (1/n) 1 can be used (Getobjects.com, 2004). Opportunity cost is the benefit or cash flow forgone as a result of an action (Brealey, Myers Marcus, 2003). An annuity is a sequence of equally spaced levels of cash flows (Brealey, Myers Marcus, 2003). Some examples are car payments, loans, mortgages, or utilities. This included the act that will benefit the individual or their organization/business. This issue is that the government has not been able to complete subdue the acts of bribery and corruption. Their attempts have been ineffective as it is integrated in their culture. The other aspect of the legal environment is the influences of the four primary mobs (Sicily s Cosa Nostra, The Naples Camorra, The Calabrian Ndrangheta and Puglian Sacra Corona) within the country. The effects of the mob can have felt by 95.9% of the population of major cities and the events of the mobs have been related to suspicious fires, and the possibility of businesses being pressured to provide ... Females can be seen as unworthy or nothing without a man if they are not advocating them and are constantly being treated differently from men. However, in the book, The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, they live up to their reputations for how they view themselves. Specifically, being focused on women like Pecola, and Claudia. This event may lead to female s perspective of their worth decrease, since they are constantly being abused. In the course of The Bluest Eye, Pecola Breedlove has shown signs of low self esteem. Some celebrities go on to be involved in politics, such as Ronald Reagan and Sonny Bono, but rarely does an entertainer command a large sphere of influence in the world of entertainment and politics simultaneously. While entertainers can move the masses, their voice is usually discarded among politicians. In addition to this, many have highlighted the negative influence of the entertainment industry, and particularly rock music, on American culture. To many, rock and roll has come to be seen as a social menace (Pattison 175 77). Rock Music has traditionally, among political authorities, been viewed as a medium that has the potential to bring about unrest and revolution among listeners. Even in its early stages, rock music has been seen as a threat to the stability of society. In a 1968 Time magazine article, Robert Sam Ansons declared rock music to be one long symphony of protest...the proclamation of a new set of values...the anthem of revolution (qtd. in Wicke 103). While the comment acknowledges the influential potential that rock and roll has, it views it negatively. Similarly, politicians have been out spoken against rock and pop musicians, declaring they have a negative effect on society. In the mid 1990 s, during presidential election campaigns, Bob Dole and Bill Clinton both declared that rock and roll plays a part in the corruption of American youth (Christenson 2). Historically, many politicians have seen rock and roll as being in opposition to positive political change. In what ways is this represented in your prescribed text and ORT? PHOEBE ATKINSON A person s basic human need to belong to people, places and circumstances can fuel many of their actions throughout their life. For some people a sense of belonging can be difficult to obtain. The struggle to belong is represented in many ways in the 1998 memoir, Romulus, My Father by Raimond Gaita. Through Gaita s employment of various writing techniques and his recollection of past events and adversities, the reader becomes aware of the many struggles of the characters, particularly to belong to the Australian culture and landscape. In the 2001 short story Mate , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The imagery formed by group of men glaring at Will from inside the car, further alienates him as he truly appears an outsider . This is similar to how Romulus lack of understanding of the Australian landscape continuously reinforces him as a foreigner, exposes him to ridicule and prevents him from belonging in society, such as when Romulus caused a fire that burnt 20 hectares of his neighbors property. The use of an intertextual reference to Dorothea Mackellar s poem My Country shows how even though Will thought he had sufficient knowledge of, and belonging to Australian society, his lack of first hand experience and true understanding of real country life disables him from belonging to Boolowa and its people. Even Will s attempts to fit in by buying the Akubra and the elastic sided boots were futile because his city bugger aura was obvious to the country folk . Differences in a person s social context and hobbies can sometimes create barriers to belong to a community. In Romulus, My Father a comparison is drawn between Raimond and typical Australian farm boys, I had virtually no interest in farm life... (p.60) and ...I was the only boy in the area who did not kill rabbits... These comparisons alienated Raimond and perhaps disabled him from creating strong friendships with the farm boys because of a lack of common interests. Later in the story Raimond recognised ... Through money laundering, proceeds of crime can be disguised. Proceeds of crime can simply be put as money earned from profit oriented crime. The methods used are many and highly complicated. Corruption is one of the organised crime which is said to be primarily associated with the laundering of proceeds through money laundering. Technological tools accord further chances for individuals to employ money laundering as a process of cleaning up dirty money and obscure the trail leading back to the underlying crime. The crime of money laundering has been illustrated by many as the means of support for many crimes and is a main threat to the economic and social security of societies. These activities have become a global problem in the second half of the 20th century similar to the fiery increase of drug trade. The term has been extensively acknowledged and popularly being employed globally. Often, as it is known that the origins of criminal proceeds were from drug trafficking, many law enforcers have now expanded their application to offences such as human trafficking, cybercrime, illegal arms sales and smuggling. • 32. The Effect Of Concentration On Rate Of Reaction With... How does changing the concentration of Hydrochloric acid affect its rate of reaction with Sodium Thiosulphate? Introduction/aim the aim of this experiment is to see how changing the concentration of hydrochloric acid would change its rate of reaction with Sodium Thiosulphate. This was done by changing the concentration of Hydrochloric acid to 4 different concentrations and adding them to the same amount of sodium thiosulphate. This is done in different beakers that will previously be placed over a piece of paper marked with an x. Once the reaction fully takes place, the x would no longer be visible therefore the time it takes for the x to no longer be visible is our dependent variable. Hypothesis the hypothesis is that as the concentration is increased, the rate of reaction will increase, but the time will decrease. This is because if the concentration is higher, there will be more of the sodium thiosulphate, therefore the reaction will take less time as the two mixtures will collide at a higher frequency. The trend in the graphs that will be later plotted will not be directly proportional. Graph 1 ( concentration vs time ) has a negative correlation and graph 2 ( concentration vs rate ) has a positive correlation. This is because as the concentration is increased the time will decrease, that s why graph 1 will have a negative correlation. Graph 2 will have a positive correlation as rate will be 1/time, therefore the graph flips. Neither of the graphs will be directly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Textile industries produce a lot of wastewater, which contains a number of contaminants, including acidic or caustic dissolved solids, toxic compounds, and any different dyes, many of these dyes are carcinogenic, mutagenic, and toxic to human beings, fish species, and microorganisms. Hence, their removal from aquatic wastewater becomes environmentally important.
