The Relations Sex and Death in Poe’s “For Annie” and...
Both Edgar Allen Poe s poem For Annie and Robert Browning s poem Porphyrias Lover create
complex relations between sex and death. In For Annie the masochistic storyteller sees sexual
excitement as a suffering to be endured and embraces the state that follows as an estimate to
death. He is masochists, who takes pleasure in envisioning himself dead and resolves his own
sexual worries by visualizing a situation in which he is motionless and immobile, while his lover
takes on a maternal role. In Robert Browning s Porphyrias Lover, on the other hand, the speaker is
vicious, resolving his problems through murdering his lover and rationalizing his actions in terms
of an imagined post sexual state. Both speakers believe they are... Show more content on

At this point in the poem, the speaker is clearly the weaker of the two. Even the poems heading
suggests that his relation to her defines him, rather than being his own identity; we know her
name but we never discover his own. However, the speaker, is apparently changed by his acts of
sadistic violence toward his lover, an action that he reveals as something that he thinks of at the
spur of the moment rather than a pre calculated act: I found /A thing to do. (37 38) Porphyria s
light colored hair that earlier on she had used to console the speaker becomes the reason of her
death, as all her hair/In one long yellow string I wound...And strangled her. (38 41) when she is
living, the narrator seems incapable to please her. He depicts himself as one so pale/ for love of
her, and all in vain. (28 29) However, the speaker hastily takes on the leading role once she is
gone. Her kindness to him and the susceptible position, in which she places herself, thus becomes
the cause of her death. Once she is dead, the speaker is no longer frightened to have contact with
her, taking the role in their sexual contact: this time my shoulder bore/ her head, which droops
upon it still. (50 51). to the speaker, she looks

Essay about Hp Kittyhawk Case Analysis
Analysis of Hewlett Packard: The Flight of the Kittyhawk.
Maggie Xu
February 8, 2012
1. Background: The Kittyhawk Project.
Hewlett Packard (HP) decided to produce 1.3 inch disk drives to become the market leader in a
new market and increase HP s revenue. Although the market for 1.3 inch disk drives was still
unclear and still developing, HP decided to organize a special team to develop this new product.
This group was multi talented, with the best engineers from every department in the company. The
group also had many priorities for the company. However, things didn t develop as the Kittyhawk
team expected. They failed to sell the new product to the customer they planned. Even though some
new customers were interested in this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This caused two problems. First, the Kittyhawk designers were engineers by training, not market
researchers. The people held to be experts didn t hold the necessary expertise. Second, there is a
conflict of interest when consulting with the designers instead of the customers. The entire point of
hiring a market research firm is to find an unbiased third party to provide a different perspective.
Using the designers as market research defeats that purpose.
Ignoring Established Customer Needs
When Seymour and White visited the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to talk with potential
customers, they pointedly passed on an opportunity to provide value to an established market.
Nintendo representatives at CES stated that a small, cheap hard drive costing $50 would have a
potential market in the millions. After additional deliberation, the Kittyhawk team decided to pass
on this opportunity in search of more lucrative markets. This mistake is somewhat understandable,
because the $50 target cost was deemed too high of a technological challenge.
Investing in Uncertain Customers
The last complication leading to the Kittyhawk projects demise came from the customers
themselves. After the launch of the first Kittyhawk hard drive, many new unexpected customers
stepped forward to show interest. This situation became the proverbial carrot on a stick for the
Kittyhawk team. However, none of these customers provided sure sources of revenue by entering

Online Gaming Techniques Applied On Everyday Goals
Gamification is where game developers apply ways players in which can play their games in
such a way they become more engaged with the game . Although the word game has been used
here, this does not imply that it is merely for computer games. Growing trends are seeing the
gamification of areas such as business, education and even goverment. This sees popular
gaming techniques applied to everyday goals within these areas. Everyday examples may
include leaderboards for employees and loyalty cards for customers. For the developer it is a
way to get players to be loyal to their games and to increase profits, and for players it can be a
true sense of achievement, and status within a game. For the business, education and
government sectors , it can be used as a way of increasing overall productivity by players
(employees and students), increasing motivation and general satisfaction of employees,
customers and students. 3. Where did the term come from The term gamification was first
described in 2003 by Nick Pelling, a British programmer and inventor best known for his work in
creating games for the BBC Micro and Commodore 64. However, it was not until later that the
term was picked up. Around 2008 a blogger used it as he was taking notes from a Social Gaming
Summit discussions. He overheard the term but it was spelt gameification back then. It was around
then when the e was dropped from the name and it became gamification when other bloggers started

Palm Oil Crisis
The increasing demand for palm oil on the markets, has begun an economic competition between
large companies to gain access to these resources. Palm oil can only can only grow in climate
conditions around the equator. Companies are racing for this profitable land before it has already
been claimed. The Indonesian government began to issue permits to big companies for the
production of palm oil, and the results are catastrophic. Indonesia is now under a widespread
burning of tropical rainforests and peat lands to develop palm oil plantations, and many are saying
the crisis is one of the largest sources of carbon pollution today. It is estimated that the fires are
producing more carbon pollution than the entire daily emissions of the united states. (Allen,2015)

The fires are connected to the cause and effect of climate change and a broken system of
international commodity production that will require all of us on both supply chains to fix. (Allen,
2015) There is an ongoing debate as to who is at fault; some are blaming the fires on the industrial
manipulation of the landscape for planation development, while the large industries are accusing
the farmers and villagers of lighting many of the fires. Even if the statement were to be true, the
displacement of communities and drainage of peat lands for plantations is ultimately responsible
for these fires. Solving the crisis is not in fighting the forests fires; the solution lies in the prevention
from forests fires happening in the first place. In order to prevent these fires from happening again

The Leather Boot As Evidence Against God Erlang s Impostor
The supernatural element of the sorcery in the story of The Leather Boot as Evidence against
the God Erlang s Impostor makes the story more appealing to me. As a comparison, in the story
The Fan Tower Restaurant as Witness to the Love of Zhou Shengxian , the dream encounter for
Second Brother Fan of Zhou Shengxian after she was died is somehow less interesting. When
reading the God Erlang s story, after god Erlang first appeared in Lady Han s garden I thought it
was just her imagination of the god coming down to the man s world because her mind was full
of the image of the god at that time. As the second time god Erlang appeared again in Lady Han s
garden, I started to guess if this was someone s prank on Lady Han. The way god Erlang... Show

Having all these doubtful points in mind, I cannot stop myself from continue reading the story
until I encountered the part where god Erland asked Lady Han for the jade waistband. I
happened to need a jade waistband. Should you be willing to part with it, that ll be an act of
charity and gain you merit in heaven (Feng, 260). After I read this sentence, I was sure that god
Erland was just an ordinary person who was attracted by Lady Han s beauty and wealth. The
question of the uncertainty of the supernatural element urged me to continue and finish the story
in order to find out the truth about who god Erlang was and how can he disappear by the
windowsill without a trace. The supernatural element in the Fan story is less interesting to me.
The only part that interested me in the Fan story is when Zhu Zhen opened Zhou Shengxian s
coffin and Zhou Shengxian came back to life and ask Zhu Zhen, brother, who might you be?
(Feng, 284). After I read this part of the story, I was really curious of how can a died person

saying that she was fainted at that time and did not die, but still, how can she woke up a year later

Endocrine System And Non-Steroid Hormones
Then Endocrine System
The endocrine system consists of a variety of glands and clusters of hormone secreting cells in
various organs throughout the body. These glands produce chemicals called hormones, which are
secreted directly into the bloodstream. They determine a number of things, including when you re
hungry, your weight, how you handle stress, and even how well you sleep. The body produces
many different hormones, which can either be classified as steroid or non steroid. Steroid
hormones are synthesized from cholesterol, including male and female sex hormones, as well as
aldosterone. Non steroid hormones, also known as protein based hormones, are synthesized from
amino acids. Protein based hormones are further divided into protein ... Show more content on

is secreted after ovulation, and helps maintain uterine lining during pregnancy. The testes secrete

Discrimination Quotes In Frankenstein
Discrimination in Frankenstein
Have you ever discriminated against someone or been discriminated against because you were
different? Frankenstein is a book that explores society and human behavior when someone different
is introduced. It says that humans are not always willing to introduce someone new to their society
and that sometimes they tend to discriminate against the different one. To show this, the writer used
a monster which was introduced to a human society. This monster is rejected everywhere he goes
because of his difference. He is rejected by his creator, and then he is rejected by the villagers, by
the farmers who the monster had so long admired and in the end by the reader himself.
Unable to endure the aspect of the being I had created, I rushed out of the room .
The writer uses this quote to show that the creator, in this case Victor Frankenstein, is the first to
reject the monster as he rushes out of the room. Victor had worked day and night trying to create
an individual that would be and would look like a human. Once Victor had finished creating this
monster he realized how not human like the monster was and decided to reject him as the book
states: I had desidered it with an ardour that far exceeded moderation; but now that I had finished

rejection of the monster by the villagers symbolizes the rejection of people that belong to a
different culture and that may show discrimination when someone new is

French Revolution: The Influences
When the Enlightenment occurred, it established some modern day ideals such as religious
toleration, separation of powers, and natural rights. These Enlightened principles eventually spread
throughout France, causing the people to question the current state of their society, and ultimately
causing the French Revolution. Montesquieu and Voltairewere two very major Enlightenment
figures whose beliefs had a huge impact on the French Revolution. The ever growing middle class
of France had begun to have access to and absorb some writings and ideas of philosophes like
Montesquieu, Voltaire, Rousseau, and Diderot. In addition, the recent American Revolution proved

Spinster, by Sylvia Plath
Spinster by Sylvia Plath is a poem that consists of a persona, who in other words serves as a
second self for the author and conveys her innermost feelings. The poem was written in 1956, the
same year as Plath s marriage to Ted Hughes, who was also a poet. The title suggests that the
persona is one who is not fond of marriageand the normal rituals of courtship as a spinster is an
unmarried woman, typically an older woman who is beyond the usual age of marriage and may
never marry. The persona of the poem is a woman who dislikes disorder and chaos and finds
relationships to be as unpredictable as the seasonof spring, in which there is no sense of uniformity.
In this poem, Plath not only uses a persona to disclose her feelings, but... Show more content on

In the winter, nothing is out of proportion and everything is disciplined like the heart, whereas in
the spring when budding relationships and spring fever make the heart out of control. This image
of winter that Plath provides, suggests that the woman is cold emotionally as she has little
emotion. She has the frame of mind that nature like human interaction should be in black and
white with as little color or disarray as possible. Towards the end of the poem, Plath once again
discloses the persona s abhorrence toward spring. She writes, but hereвЋЇa burgeoning unruly
enough to pitch her five queenly wits into vulgar motley (19 21). The word burgeoning , which
means growth, indicates the persona admitting that she knows that growth is uncontrollable:
flowers bloom, relationships develop, and spring occurs every year (19). However, the persona
is depressed because she feels like she has no control and that scares her. Spring is too complex
for her to understand and it falls outside of her comfort zone. Still, by using the phrase five
queenly wits , Plath points out that the reader feels superior to all that is in disorder (20). Plath
explains, let idiots reel giddy in bedlam spring: she withdrew neatly , which implies that the
persona separates herself from society and would rather be in solitude (23 24). When one is alone,
life is less confusing and everything is structured like the season of winter. As a result, the persona

Persuasive Speech On Alien Invades
Have you ever read or watched a movie where aliens attack and invade and take over the world?
If you like that well then you should know that it s real. Not real in the way that there are actual
aliens but species are acting like aliens which means they are invasive. If we don t help solve the
problem then who else will? We are the only ones who can solve the problem. An example of an
invasive speciestaking over are alien invasions. In any alien invasion movie or book aliens come
to a planet invade it and try to take it over. That is pretty much what invasive species do. But
instead of killing or fighting for an area, they breed and eventually overpopulate that area which
then pushes away other species to live. This causes many native species to either go extinct or
leave that area. This is exactly what the European starlings... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

They have been here in United States of America and north america in general for about 126 years.
About sixty European starlings were released into New York s Central Park in 1890 by Eugene
Schieffelin and their descendants have spread across the United States, northward to southern
Canada and Alaska, and southward into Central America (Maine gov Par1). There are now an
estimated 150 million starlings in the United States alone.
We need to stop this invasion but why exactly should we stop this? If we don t make a change
many species will die. This will not be easy, and it will take many resources. So if we wait long
enough nature could just sort itself out. But that will take a long time and is very risky.
Though doing nothing about the invasion is easy and less resourceful it has many problems. If
we do nothing we are putting many species existence at stake and it would also be sad to not fix
a problem we have created. Also doing nothing could possibly not work and instead help the
starlings grow and populate even more. This is why we should fix the problem and not do

Who Is A Father Figure In Death Of A Salesman
The importance of a strong father figure in a family can sometimes be overlooked. Kids, and
especially boys, idolize their father throughout their younger and even into their adult life.
Children take anything that their father says as truth and see what they do as the only way to live.
In Death of a Salesman Arthur Miller portrays how the absence of a father taking on the role of
raising his children can affect the children for the rest of their life.
Willy Loman, the father of Biff and Happy Lowman, is an example of the lasting effect you can

Social Injustice In To Kill A Mockingbird
Justice has long been considered something that is important to the success of a society.
However justice in itself is something that is hard to achieve. Recently in the news, a story has
arisen regarding a father who was not able to afford a lawyer, due to this he was not able to see his
kids for five years. This is what some people would call political injustice, a case in which
someone s given rights have been ignored. This is very common despite people saying that justice
should be given to all people. Social injustice is a case in which people are affected by less
government and law related issues, including, environmental rights, civil rights, and an access to
education. This can be also seen clearly in To Kill A Mockingbird
by Harper Lee. Through the
society that Harper Lee portrays in her novel she suggests that justice is something worth fighting
for. Examples of both social and polГtical injustice becomes apparent.
Social injustice is a common theme throughout the novel. This can appear in cases of stereotypes.
Many people in the town of Maycomb have families that are over generalized. Such as the
Cunninghams, who never took anything they can t pay back. (Lee 26). However some of these
stereotypes are very inaccurate. For instance, Walter Cunningham went to dinner with the Finches,
this was something that he could not pay back, but he did it anyway. Or when Scout was able to
help snap Mr.Cunningham back to reality when he was trying to intimidate Atticus.

South Park Stereotypes
One of the most famous yet vulgar cartoon shows Comedy Central is known for is South Park.
Anyone can recognize the predictable cry of, O my God! They killed Kenny! or them seeing the
infamous Mr. Hanky, the dancing and talking Christmas poo. This cartoon has four main
characters that speak like crude adults but in bodies of eight year old fourth grade boys who live
in South Park, Colorado. This leaves the door open for any age of viewers, although there is a
strong following with younger viewers around ages eighteen to thirty nine year old males (Nixon
1999:12). South Park is a very popular show that taunts stereotypes such as in race, religion, history,
and gender. The thing is, South Park depicts American culture through every episode. Whether it is
anything from the media, celebrities, current phenomenon or violence. Of course there are going to

Russian Vladimir Putin Addressed The World Concerning The...
March 18, 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the world regarding the annexation

By losing Ukraine to its independence, Russia lost thousands of armed forces and military
equipment; this coupled with the effect the separation had on Russia s trade agreements with
Europe meant that Russia was left weak, and economically unstable. It was one of the biggest
partitioned nations in the world. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in December of 1991,
Russia was left in a fragile state, especially after getting accustomed to being treated as a world
superpower; its sphere of influence significantly declined. Russians see this as a time of economic

reservations being the potential for a Western stronghold along its international border. Because of
its weakened state, much of Russia s distress towards Western policies was noticeably dismissed.
Despite having unwaveringly opposed NATO s expansion to include previously Russian territories

The Pros And Cons Of The Jay Treaty
The end of the Revolutionary War brought about new ideas, freedoms, and regulations in foreign
policy between the United States and Great Britain. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly illustration
could be used for the ideas portrayed in the articles. The Jay Treaty was an ordinance of twenty
eight articles created to dissuade any conflict between the U.S. and Great Britain. Washington s
Farwell Address conveyed his views and beliefs on foreign policy and informed the people that if
they would remain loyal to their truths and values, the nation would surely prosper. The second,
third, fourth, fifth, and eleventh Federalist Paperswere documents that the Federalists wrote to
promote the ratification of the Constitution to New York citizens. The Jay Treaty, Washington s
Farewell Address, and the Federalist Papers each had their respective degrees of Good, Bad, or
Ugly. In the twenty eight articles of the Jay Treaty, conflicts in trading, territory, and impressment
were all addressed and revised. The Jay Treaty, written by John Jayand ideas from Alexander
Hamilton, was a set of articles which was created to prevent another war with Great Britain. Several
articles in the treaty were on impressment, the raiding of an enemy s ship and taking the loot and
crew, and how they would prevent this from happening between the two countries.
The second idea they sought to tackle was the problems in trading. At that time, British exports
were in abundance in U.S. markets, while

My Adventure Of Friendship
Sitting in front of the computer, I typed in the very first letters that began my adventure of
endless exploration, discovery and creation. Two words flashed before me on the screen. Hello
World . Perhaps, that s where my journey began. It was fourteen years ago that I was first
introduced to these wonderful machines called computers. One fine day, all of a sudden, my
father reeled in a bulky grayish yellow box. Although it seemed quite intimidating and dull at
first, we became the best of friends spending majority of our time together, him seated elegantly
on the desk and I, who had somehow managed to squish myself in the drawer of the same. At that
time, I barely understood the potential that box of mysteries held. Nevertheless, every click,
every window even those annoying popup adverts amused me. Yet fate brought our friendship
to a standstill when I went back to my home country, India after having lived and studied in
Saudi Arab since birth. It wasn t until 6 years later that it decided to greet me again. Our
meeting felt quite surreal. Fumbling around in my mother s prized bookshelf, the then nine year
old me discovered a treasure. It s pages were tinted and torn but its cover had the picture of my
estranged friend and a cryptic acronym HTML . After going through its pages for an hour, I
finally decided to type out whatever knowledge I had acquired on my mother s laptop. Twenty
minutes later, my most treasured masterpiece was ready my first webpage . It was

Culture And Identity ( Rough Draft ) Essay
Essay 1: Culture and Identity (Rough Draft)
Imagine a life without writing, and without art; it s pretty grim isn t it? Without these essential
cultural components, life would be a sad place to live in, because no other cultural aspect would
survive. The most essential cultural elements are Art and Literature, because art and literature lead
into the other cultural aspects.
Without arts and literature, you couldn t have the rest of the cultural elements. Culture manifested
itself with the aid of art and literature, without the help of writing or art, cultural unity would be
impossible. A good example of a culture without writing and art would be the early humans; their
culture did not carry along, and one tribe would be completely different than the other, and they
couldn t even speak to express their ideas. It wasn t until early humans began to draw cave art that
ideas could be expressed, and then culture grew and evolved and spread into government s and
civilizations and certain ways of doing things, as well as religion and any of the other cultural
elements. That s why art and literature are prerequisite to the development of all the other elements
of culture. Art and literature are necessary to communicate and spread the rest of the cultural
elements. Civilization is the backbone of culture, and you need art and literature to connect a
civilization.
Art is important to culture and our society. Society is culture, or more accurately, society is the
people who make up a

Theme Of The Interlopers
Why do we engage in war? Is there ever a significant outcome?Just like the Korean War, the story
Interlopers by Saki, share similar themes and outcomes. In the Interlopers, the author Saki conveys
a theme of don t waste your life on engaging in hatred cause death will follow, using the literary
techniques of situational irony, imagery, and foreshadowing.
Saki has displayed a theme of wasting your life on engaging in hatred because death will follow, by
using the technique of irony. This theme comes into notice when the forresters walk out into the
open to explore. Ulrich and Georg, the forresters, meet eyes in the middle of the open forest.
Then, lighting struck and branches from the trees fall down onto Georg and Ulrich. The hatred
turned from each other onto nature. Hoping that the other is dead, Ulrich shouts I m caught in
my own forest land , and then their was a moment of silence (Saki 8). Georg was silent because
he knew that this situation he got in, is very ironic. They re on their own land but yet trapped
and nearing death all because of this long lasting family feud. Since death is nearing, Georg
starts to get into panic mode. He shouts at Ulrich and says, Death and damnation to you, Ulrich
Von Gradwitz , as they were trapped under the heavy tree branches (Saki 8). Georg didn t mean
that in a bad way. He just wanted to make sure that Ulrich knew that if they did died under those
branches, that it would be all his fault for making this a bigger deal than what it

As insignificant as 4% may seem, it has a very large impact on forensics and the entire criminal
justice system. When DNA tests become invalidated, the test can no longer be relied on to be
accurate. Forensics relies on the total accuracy of their test. When a test s accuracy cannot be
verified, it cannot be used as evidence. With all of the data that laboratories have to process, how
can the accuracy of the data be checked? In 2009, there were an estimated 26 million Child ID Kits
distributed by the National Child Identification Program alone. For the safety of their children,
more and more parents are turning to forensic analysis to protect their families. In each of the
identification kits, there are supplies to collect a hair sample, saliva sample, and take fingerprints.
In the event that something happens to the child, parents can present the information from these
kits to police to use them to find the child. The Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification

with all law enforcement in the United States. When someone is believed to have committed a

Shakespeare is praising his mistress when he says she is better than the best because summer is
the best time of the year and Shakespeare is saying she is better than summer. Thou art more
lovely and more temperate shows that he is saying she is perfect and constantly exquisite . The
word darling gives the poem an affectionate tone. Shakespeare is also writing to show off his
writing skills, this is shown in the last line when he says, So long lives this and this gives live to
thee , because he says his writing will live on forever. It is also written to give his loved one a
reminder of mortality. Nor shall death brag is the reminder of death and it is personified because it
implies death can t take her.
The purposes of Let Me Not were to flatter Shakespeare s loved one, remind his beloved of
mortality, define love and to show how love is threatened by other things. Romantic flattery is
shown when
Shakespeare says, rosie lips and cheeks , it is also describing his beloved. The reminder of death is
shown when the poem says, edge of doome ; this is even more effective than just death because
it is describing love until the end of the world. The edge of doome also defines love and

A Brief Note On The Ethiopian Church Of Egypt
Rastafarianism is the child of two very distinct and unrelated entities. One parent is Garveyism, an
ideology which at its essence is a Black supremacist socio political movement with the end goal of
repatriating African descendants in the diaspora back to Africa and and Ethiopian Orthodox
Christianity. The Ethiopian Orthodox Church is one of the five monophysite churches,
characterised by their rejection of the Council of Chalcedon 451 AD(Ethiopian) This council was
convened in an effort to create uniformity in regards to doctrine amongst varying christian sects.
One of the many decisions agreed upon was that God had two distinct natures in Christ. Ethiopian
orthodox christianity vehemently disagreed with the council and instead decided that Christ s
humanity cannot be separated from his divinity.(Encyclopedia britannica) The Ethiopian church
was for most of its existence placed under the jurisdiction of the Coptic Church of Egypt. In 1959
the Ethiopian church became independent from Egypt when an Ethiopian patriarch was elected
(Ethiopian) It most be noted that although the Ethiopian Orthodox church and associated teachings
are accepted by the Rastafarian community all other christian denominations are rejected. They hold
the belief that all other religious institutions, buildings, churches and schools, including Jamaican
Pentecostal revivalism although indigenous, are created with the sole intent of keeping black
people down. They believe that Jamaican

Religion In Mahatma Gandhi
Another trait Gandhi possessed due to his religion was courage. Mahatma Gandhi had no fear.
To Gandhi fearlessness was an imperative part of religion. He even described religion by saying,
Where there is fear there is no religion ( Young India, 2 9 26, 308). Further, Gandhi believed this
courage to follow one s beliefs improved all aspects of life. Gandhi once said, Religionwhich takes
no account of practical affairs and does not help to solve them, is no religion ( Young India, 7 5
25, 164). Religion to Gandhi required an effect on everyday life. Gandhi had no fear and
allowed religion to affect his daily affairs. This was imperative to the many radical movements
and ideas Gandhi proposed. When he founded the Natal Indian Congress at twenty five, he was a
tabula rasa: he tried out ideas which in an established political organization would have been
directly laughed at (Nanda, Shri B. R). However, due to his fearlessness, even when faced with
defeat, Gandhi pushed onwards. He stated, Defeat cannot dishearten me. It can only chasten me.
I know that God will guide me ( Young India, 3 7 24, 218). And by pushing onwards, Gandhi was
able to see change in India and change in the world. Furthermore, because of his faith in God,
Gandhi was not scared of other physical dangers. He stated, God saves me so long as He wants
me in this body. The moment His wants are satisfied, no precautions on my part will save me (

Current Status of Hybrid Managers
The hybrid manager
1. What is a Hybrid manager
Around the late 80 s and early 90 s a change was occurring in businesses across the globe with the
emergence of the desktop pc and the adoption of Information technology in the workplace as a
standard. This created a void between business managers and those who were classed as
technology managers. With the onset of recession businesses were forced to focus more on
efficient use of resources and employee productivity. It was also identified at the time that many of
these technology projects that were to vastly improve the business processes and increase the
efficiency and productivity in the workplace was due to a disparate vision of technology managers

Technology managers today appears to be about accountability by awareness and compliance
with many standards and laws such as the data protection act as well as software licensing and
IPR (Intellectual Property Rights). Most standards of Project management focus on building and

Analysis Of Graduation Day By Maya Angelou
Forged by Pain In 1940, the United States approached the eightieth year anniversary of the
abolition of slavery; however, the social oppression of African American citizens steadily
increased. Despite being free for decades, they were still leagues below the white people who
owned their ancestors. African American author Maya Angelou recollects on her experience of
graduation from the eighth grade in her 1940 piece Graduation Day. The narrative not only
highlights the importance of the narrator s graduation, but also the expectations of Angelou s
community due to their persecution and separation. Perseverance through separation and
persecution forges dignity in an individual. The separation of the African American displays the
importance of graduation day. Angelou was only graduating from the eighth grade, but because of
the sociocultural differences, graduation proved momentous in their community. Angelou later
states Oh, it was important, all right. White folks would attend the ceremony, and two or three
would speak of God and home, and the Southern way of life (Angelou, 2014, p. 181). The school
making a minute event into a grand celebration conveys much about the state of the position
African Americans were subjected to. Angelou displays this later when she describes the scene of
small children presented in a play about buttercups and daisies and bunny rabbits and older girls
preparing snacks and beverages. Normal society does not make such an event of Middle School

Analytics In Basketball
There is a field in the sport of basketball that is growing at a rapid pace. That field is called
analytics. Nearly every team in the NBA now has an analytics department. However, it is important
to fully understand analytics before applying that knowledge to the sport of basketball. Analytics is
the discovery and communication of meaningful patterns in data (Stolbunov 1). Analytics being
used in sports is simply called sports analytics. Even though analytics has its flaws, it has had a
major impact on team building in basketball using statisticslike player efficiency ratingand effective
field goal percentage. There are many important statistics used in analytics, but a couple are used to
very great effect. One of the most important statistics... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In baseball, the book Moneyball revolutionized the way that the whole sport looked at analytics.
Basketball has a comparable situation. The book Basketball on Paper dives into the numbers
behind the sport (Haefner 10). In this book, author Dean Oliver states there are four main
statistics to tell which team will win, and also states of how much importance these statistics
are. He says that a team s shooting is forty percent of winning, turnovers are twenty five percent,
rebounding is twenty percent, and and free throws are fifteen percent (Haefner 11). One of the
fathers of analytics in basketball claims that shooting is far and away the most important
statistic in the game. However, in order to know how a team is performing in this category, the
team must be compared against other teams. Doing this is extremely easy. If comparing two
teams playing each other, the opposing team s effective field goal percentage is simply
subtracted from the team being observed (Haefner 15). A golden example of the utility of
effective field goal percentage is the Golden State Warriors. This team has broken records for
three pointers made, and recently won seventy three games in a single season. The Warriors
have an advantage on almost every other team in the NBA because of the vast amount of three
pointers that they take (Dizikes 2). The ease with which effective field goal percentage can be
used and its direct correlation to which team wins the game makes it possibly the most useful
statistic in the game of basketball. However, while shooting does have a direct correlation for
team performance, it does not always have a major impact on how a single player

Walt Disney Impact
Walt Disney, and his company s, history with urban planning had an unexpected start. Disneyland
s Main Street, U.S.A., among one of the amusement park s more ambitious lands (and one close
to Walt Disney s heart), inadvertently acted as a model for urban planning at the time of its
opening and for years to come. While Tomorrowland was actually set in the future, it was Main
Street, U.S.A. that first served as the model for real cities in designing their downtown and
entertainment areas. The land successfully blended a small town like setting with amenities often
found in large cities, even in its small scale, and became a basis for the most exhaustive park at
Walt DisneyWorld: EPCOT Center (and later, simply Epcot). The impact of urban planning at
Epcot is seen immediately, as unlike the lands and other theme parks at Disney World, there is no
entrance. This seems like a minor detail, but it has the effect of a record scratch, in that it breaks

previous lands and parks, it was meant to influence the real world. While the actual Epcot

through, the park would simultaneously keep visitors trapped in a world that a large part of the
country was trying to let go of ( a paternalistic company town as worded by Detweiler in the essay
Hyperurbanity). Disney couldn t quite figure out how to let go of his old ideals and move
completely into the future, with his initial plan for Epcot (a fully functioning city of tomorrow )
already being based on outdated design. Having to scrap that idea, he settled for a space age vision

Photography Art History
During the 1850s the photographic community pursued an increased activity to advance the
medium s claims as art. In England, France, Italy, Germany and the United States several societies
and publications were founded, such as the Photographic Society of London (now the Royal
Photographic Society) and the Societe Francaise de Photographie, established in 1853 and 1854
respectively, still in existence. Numerous professional publications such as La Lumiere in Paris, the
Photographic Journal in London, and others in Italy, Germany and the United States were at the
vanguard of discussions regarding photographyas a legitimate art form, promoting spaces which
would included exhibitions of photography as well as painting.
At the beginning of 1862, an article published in the Photographic Journal, by an unknown author,
summed up the discussions over photography as art, stating: the question is not whether
photography is fine art per se neither painting nor sculpture can make that claim but whether it is
capable of artistic expression; whether in the hands of a true artists its productions become works of
art. A French naturalist, Louis Figuier, also made an accurate observation in regards to photography
and fine arts: Until now, the artist has had the brush, the pencil and the burin; now, in addition, he

Comparing The Sniper , Ambush And The Trip
An author s main goal is to have the reader intrigued by the text with suspenseful and/or dramatic
scenes happening throughout the story. The authors of all three stories ( The Sniper , Ambush , and
The Trip ) all portray this expectation flawlessly. Even though the stories have a great chronological
order with amazing characters, they also share similar themes and subjects. The following reasons
explain why. In The Sniper , the main characteris thrown into a revolutionary civil war. He s pressed

All of the authors managed to include this feature in their short stories with impeccable accuracy

Dropping flat onto the roof, he crawled back to the parapet, ( The Sniper ) which led to the
revelation of what his brother would later do when he s hit by a revolver round and killed in a
battle of tactics. In The Trip the author lets a character do the talking when it comes to
foreshadowing. In the story the author includes Rahal says, You want to get us all arrested as
harraga? Get out of the boat if you want to get there. It s not that far. I m turning back. to imply that
the captain of the boat knows something bad is going to happen and he doesn t want to get caught

Seeing how teachers in Qatar are teaching their children, in my opinion can be very helpful for a

in why I chose this article is to try and abstract the positives and negatives of this teachers

summarize the research, explain how it relates to me and then explain why other educators should
read this article. This article was very interesting and had my attention throughout. The author that

Though line 1 and the beginning of line 2, where the speaker summon[s] up remembrance (2),

mention of the past occurrence for which the speaker grieves. Due to the sonnet s constant shifts
between past and present, literary critic Helen Vendler argues that Sonnet 30 participates in a
form of temporal hop scotching, whereby the poet s present self deliberately and habitually

Vendler contends that the first quatrain introduces two of five major periods of time from Sonnet

Shakespeare delves deeper into his flashback, recounting his old woes (4) to depict a time of

the ambiguity of the sonnet s past the poet could mean a single catastrophic event or an entire

Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son

many of the prophetic Books, we are given the range of Jeremiah s career as a prophet to the
nation which spanned some fifty years. In verse two we learn that Gods call to Jeremiah comes in

The first reason Jeremiah should be encouraged to take up the ministry is that his very life is
rooted in the unshakable, sovereign purposes of God. The same is true for every child of God.
Second, God sanctified him. He set him apart for something significant. And that is true for us
too. In giving every Christian grace and gifts, God consecrated us to be like Jesus and to use our
gifts for his glory. And third, God ordained Jeremiah to be a prophet. I ordained you to be a
prophet to the nations. This is why Jeremiah was born. This is his destiny. And you have one
too. No Christian exists merely to make an honest living, raise a family, enjoy retirement, and
die. Every one of us is called to a ministry. Then in verse six we hear of Jeremiah s anxiety and
excuse when he is called: Then said I: Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth. This
is quite similar to the excuse Moses made who said: O my Lord, I am not eloquent. But God says
who makes man s mouth now go. And enabling the call, the Lord encourages Jeremiah by saying

New York Harbor Symbolism
Of the two exceptionally typical parcels in New York harbor, the more evident symbol is the
Statue of Liberty; the woman epitomizes each foreigner s fantasy of America. In any case, I ll take
Ellis Island that is a symbol with its feet truly. Half the general population now living in America
can follow their familyline to the 12 million men and ladies and kids who entered the nation there.
predominantly somewhere around 1892 and 1924. It s their Plymouth Rock, says M. Ann Belkov,
director of the National Park Service s Immigration Museum, which involves the unmistakable red
block building, now liberally restored, where the migrants were prepared. Vacationers who come
here are strolling in their families strides, Belkov let me know. Three

Ethnography of Performance Essay
Ethnography of Performance
During a musical performance many elements to be looked are not easily recognized by the
average critic. A musical performance has multiple interactions taking place between the music,
text, performers, audience, and space that all can contribute to a great performance.
Overwhelming majority of the audience does not realize so much can be looked at during a single
performance. At a performance by the University of Maryland Marching Band I was able to
analyze the Musical Sound, Contexts of the Performance, and Interpretation of the Performance.
When analyzing musical sound there are many factors to pay attention to during the performance.
Important things to listen for are the pitch, scale, timbre, tone ... Show more content on

During the performance there were many overtones and one fundamental tone, which deals with the
timbre and tone quality. The overtones produce additional sounds that enable us to distinguish
between different instruments even when they are sounding the same pitch (Kaemmer:60). The
tone quality of the performance was very good. The music sounded evenly distributed and it was
very easy to hear the sounds of the various instruments. The band played two songs and one song
had a slow rhythm and the other had a faster rhythm. Rhythm means more than a basic beat
(Kaemmer:65). During the performance there was a steady rhythm. Also during the
performance there was a section of the song that sounded different and after about ten seconds
the song goes back to its previous sound. That sound was a melody. Melodies are combination of
pitches and rhythm patterns that produce a distinctive line of sound (Kaemmer:62). When the
band first began to play the song started in a low tone and the music began to escalate and it
reached a climax where the loudness of the performance was at its peak. Once at its peak the
music began to get softer and lower. This is an example of a linear form of the performance.
Linear form means a performance having a definite beginning and ending. The overall musical
sound of the performance was delightful and pleasing to the ears. The context of a musical
performance is another key part of any

Tanning Tax
Tanning beds have helped people for years to catch the natural glowing look that normally would
be from the sun, but now Congress has passed a Health Care Bill that allows a ten present tax on
all indoor tanning beds. Are people paying the tax for the convenience or to help with the Health
Care in the United States? Congress tells people that the taxis to help pay for the treatment that an
individual must have because of the harm ultraviolent rays have on a person s skin. (New York
Times) I just wonder if Congress thought about this tax to its full capacity. If Congress has not
noticed the United States is in a recession, meaning jobs are scarce and debt is high. Congress is

The tanning tax will definitely impact the tanning industry. Many tanning solons and small
tanning businesses are already feeling the tug at their wallets from the recession and now this.
The consumer of the tanning industry is just the average person next door and we all have a
neighbor that we know who is suffering financially. When push comes to shove one will likely
choose a necessity over a luxury. I just wonder is congress trying to put the country s people in a
panic. July 1, 2010 the tanning tax went into effect; a ten percent tax on all indoor tanning using
ultraviolent radiation was passed. This tax is supposed to help those that need help with skin
cancer treatment. By congress taxing the tanning industry, for this reason leads me to ask what is
next. Is congress going to pass a tax for going to the beach? This tax seems like only the beginning
of what is to come.
During the Obama campaign, Obama made a promise to take a charge for change, but little did
the public know what change they were in for. Obama also promised that the public would have
five days to look online and find out what was in the bills before he signed them, this is Obama s
first broken promise, but not last. (CATO Institute) The Botox tax was presented to congress and
after everyone had ample opportunity to view online it was not until the final upcoming days that
deals were made and lobbing ceased only then was the tanning tax a replacement of the bo tax

Misuse Of Power In The Great Gatsby
In this, the third and fourth section of the novel, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, we
are finally introduced to the rich neighbour of Nick, Mr. Gatsby. From Nick s narration, we are
regaled with the impressive mansion of Mr.Gatsby, as well as his luxurious parties and his
expensive cars. From Nicks vivid description, Mr,Gatsby s power and influence are displayed as
if it is a piece of artwork at a museum. Along with the social standing demonstrated by the wealth
and power Mr. Gatsby possesses, it also displays his beyond masterful use of smoke and mirrors
keep his public image from corruption. In the novel, the misuse of power as well as the ways it
is used to distort reality are suitably hinted at during Mr Gatsby s party, and connects to the real
life issues that continue to affect the world today as well. During the first party attended by
Nick, he immediately learns important and obviously rumored news about who Mr. Gatsby
really is. During his conversation with Miss Baker, and some of her friends, Nick is told all
about the great mystery that Gatsby is too the rest of the world, Somebody told me they thought
he killed a man once, A thrill passed over all of us. The three Mr mumbles bent forward and
listened eagerly... It s more that he was a German spy during the war. (Gatsby, 44) This under the
table gossip session, while seemingly innocent, shares a great deal about the reputation that Gatsby

Carburettors Advantages And Disadvantages
In order for an internal combustion engine to operate correctly, a mixture of fuel and air needs to
enter into the combustion chamber, pressurised and then ignited by a spark ignition which then
drives the piston to rotate. The way that the fuel is introduced into the combustion chamber has
evolved over the decades. Before electronic fuel injection, carburettors were the primary method of
mixing air and fuel. Carburettors work on the Bernoulli s principle: the faster the air moves, the
lower its static pressure and the higher its dynamic pressure. The throttle actuates carburettor
mechanisms which meter the flow of air being pulled into the engine, the speed of this flow and
therefore its pressure determines the amount of fuel drawn into the airstream.
Carburettors consist of an intake of air being pushed into the intake manifold to the engine. The
build up of fast dynamic pressure will initiate fuel delivery action by providing a vacuum for fuel
to enter the intake with the manifold propagating as a mixture chamber to atomise the fuel into the
air to create an ideal mixture. Carburettors use Bernoulli s principle, where the speed of air intake
entering the engine intake manifold in relation to the potential difference of pressure will meter the
correct amount of fuel to be sucked in. The disadvantage of a carburettor is that the amount of fuel
being delivered cannot be fully controlled and carburettors tend to have higher fuel to air ratios and
sometimes flood the engine

Jon Stewart Discussion On The Ferguson, Missouri Coverage
Introduction The satire option that I chose for the purpose of this assignment is the Jon Stewart
discussion on the Ferguson, Missouri coverage. Here, Jon, the satirist is an arbiter of American
political media, and as a media critic, he is also the former television host of The Daily Show
which is a satirical news program that airs on Comedy Central.
In the video, Jon Stewart critiqued topics revolving around the shooting of teenager Michael
Brown by the police. The topics ranged from police brutality, black lives matter, negative
stereotypes, double standards, white privileged and an unacceptable mentality of sheer ignorance
of some Americans towards people of color, in other words, African American in a comedic but
very real sense. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence, the claims are believable as the show relies heavily on the use of various news footages,
often in a documentary way that employs archival video to show contrast and contradiction, even if
the purpose is satirical rather than reportorial. The content on the show is unburdened by
objectivity, journalistic integrity or even accuracy, nevertheless, it speaks volumes with Jon Stewart
s big unauthoritative persona as he attempts to breakdown on selective representation.
Content Reliability The reliability of the content presented in The Daily show with regards to the
Ferguson, Missouri coverage by Jon Stewart is reliable enough or fairly reliable. I say that
because as much as it is credible, it does have a real yet comedic satire spin to it. As mentioned
earlier, The Daily Show relies on various news footages and instead of solely relying on these bias
sources, Jon Snow puts his own critical spit to it. He raises controversial issues that mainstream
media coincidently neglects. With regards to the Ferguson, Missouri controversy, he filled in the
blanks and dared to say the unsaid and emphasised the existence of white supremacist and white
privilege and compare and contrasted white and black people experience and interaction with the
law enforcements agents.
Language Used Jon Stewart, when presenting the Ferguson case, like all his other shows, he uses

Othello Play And Movie Comparison Essay
Many people prefer the book version of a story rather than the film it tries to become. This is due
to the fact that the author s intent of his own story is much more intriguing and familiar to its
readers than just another film version. However, some versions portray the story better than
others. Hollywood seems to have taken up the responsibility of creating complicated and
compelling characters on screen. Unfortunately, doing so can easily take away a story s rich,
necessary detail. For instance, Shakespeare s Othello has a few different movie versions of his
story. Both movies, the 1990 version by Trevor Nunn and the 1995 version by Oliver Parker, are
great productions carried by strong casts. However, there are areas in which the movie and the play
differ. These differences tend to interpret the filmin a different way compared to what Shakespeare
intended. The film portrayals of Shakespeare s Othello by Parker and the other by Nunn both
display the character of Desdemona in very different ways. The Nunn version of this play did a
much better job of portraying Desdemona as Shakespeare... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the first scene she appears in, she is dressed in all white and looks like a peasant. Her white
clothing symbolizes purity and wholeness. She shows that she has given up the luxurious part of
her life to be with Othello. This shows her selflessness. Also, Nunn made her more child like by
choosing an actress with a high pitched voice. She always jumped into the scene with
excitement in her voice when she spoke. Nunn also made it obvious that Desdemona s character
is very naive, just like a pure child would be. This is a necessary element to have in her character
because without her ability to trust so easily she would have seen right through Iago s schemes.
She needed to present herself as a gullible woman in order to suspect that Iago was nothing but a
good friend to

  • 2. The Relations Sex and Death in Poe’s “For Annie” and... Both Edgar Allen Poe s poem For Annie and Robert Browning s poem Porphyrias Lover create complex relations between sex and death. In For Annie the masochistic storyteller sees sexual excitement as a suffering to be endured and embraces the state that follows as an estimate to death. He is masochists, who takes pleasure in envisioning himself dead and resolves his own sexual worries by visualizing a situation in which he is motionless and immobile, while his lover takes on a maternal role. In Robert Browning s Porphyrias Lover, on the other hand, the speaker is vicious, resolving his problems through murdering his lover and rationalizing his actions in terms of an imagined post sexual state. Both speakers believe they are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this point in the poem, the speaker is clearly the weaker of the two. Even the poems heading suggests that his relation to her defines him, rather than being his own identity; we know her name but we never discover his own. However, the speaker, is apparently changed by his acts of sadistic violence toward his lover, an action that he reveals as something that he thinks of at the spur of the moment rather than a pre calculated act: I found /A thing to do. (37 38) Porphyria s light colored hair that earlier on she had used to console the speaker becomes the reason of her death, as all her hair/In one long yellow string I wound...And strangled her. (38 41) when she is living, the narrator seems incapable to please her. He depicts himself as one so pale/ for love of her, and all in vain. (28 29) However, the speaker hastily takes on the leading role once she is gone. Her kindness to him and the susceptible position, in which she places herself, thus becomes the cause of her death. Once she is dead, the speaker is no longer frightened to have contact with her, taking the role in their sexual contact: this time my shoulder bore/ her head, which droops upon it still. • 3. Essay about Hp Kittyhawk Case Analysis Analysis of Hewlett Packard: The Flight of the Kittyhawk. Maggie Xu February 8, 2012 1. Background: The Kittyhawk Project. Hewlett Packard (HP) decided to produce 1.3 inch disk drives to become the market leader in a new market and increase HP s revenue. Although the market for 1.3 inch disk drives was still unclear and still developing, HP decided to organize a special team to develop this new product. This group was multi talented, with the best engineers from every department in the company. The group also had many priorities for the company. However, things didn t develop as the Kittyhawk team expected. They failed to sell the new product to the customer they planned. Even though some new customers were interested in this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This caused two problems. First, the Kittyhawk designers were engineers by training, not market researchers. The people held to be experts didn t hold the necessary expertise. Second, there is a conflict of interest when consulting with the designers instead of the customers. The entire point of hiring a market research firm is to find an unbiased third party to provide a different perspective. Using the designers as market research defeats that purpose. Ignoring Established Customer Needs When Seymour and White visited the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to talk with potential customers, they pointedly passed on an opportunity to provide value to an established market. Nintendo representatives at CES stated that a small, cheap hard drive costing $50 would have a potential market in the millions. After additional deliberation, the Kittyhawk team decided to pass on this opportunity in search of more lucrative markets. This mistake is somewhat understandable, because the $50 target cost was deemed too high of a technological challenge. Investing in Uncertain Customers The last complication leading to the Kittyhawk projects demise came from the customers themselves. After the launch of the first Kittyhawk hard drive, many new unexpected customers stepped forward to show interest. This situation became the proverbial carrot on a stick for the Kittyhawk team. However, none of these customers provided sure sources of revenue by entering into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Online Gaming Techniques Applied On Everyday Goals Gamification is where game developers apply ways players in which can play their games in such a way they become more engaged with the game . Although the word game has been used here, this does not imply that it is merely for computer games. Growing trends are seeing the gamification of areas such as business, education and even goverment. This sees popular gaming techniques applied to everyday goals within these areas. Everyday examples may include leaderboards for employees and loyalty cards for customers. For the developer it is a way to get players to be loyal to their games and to increase profits, and for players it can be a true sense of achievement, and status within a game. For the business, education and government sectors , it can be used as a way of increasing overall productivity by players (employees and students), increasing motivation and general satisfaction of employees, customers and students. 3. Where did the term come from The term gamification was first described in 2003 by Nick Pelling, a British programmer and inventor best known for his work in creating games for the BBC Micro and Commodore 64. However, it was not until later that the term was picked up. Around 2008 a blogger used it as he was taking notes from a Social Gaming Summit discussions. He overheard the term but it was spelt gameification back then. It was around then when the e was dropped from the name and it became gamification when other bloggers started to use the ... Palm oil can only can only grow in climate conditions around the equator. Companies are racing for this profitable land before it has already been claimed. The Indonesian government began to issue permits to big companies for the production of palm oil, and the results are catastrophic. Indonesia is now under a widespread burning of tropical rainforests and peat lands to develop palm oil plantations, and many are saying the crisis is one of the largest sources of carbon pollution today. It is estimated that the fires are producing more carbon pollution than the entire daily emissions of the united states. (Allen,2015) The immense scale and extreme implications of this tragic... The fires are connected to the cause and effect of climate change and a broken system of international commodity production that will require all of us on both supply chains to fix. (Allen, 2015) There is an ongoing debate as to who is at fault; some are blaming the fires on the industrial manipulation of the landscape for planation development, while the large industries are accusing the farmers and villagers of lighting many of the fires. Even if the statement were to be true, the displacement of communities and drainage of peat lands for plantations is ultimately responsible for these fires. Solving the crisis is not in fighting the forests fires; the solution lies in the prevention from forests fires happening in the first place. In order to prevent these fires from happening again the world and most importantly the government of Indonesia must implement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Leather Boot As Evidence Against God Erlang s Impostor The supernatural element of the sorcery in the story of The Leather Boot as Evidence against the God Erlang s Impostor makes the story more appealing to me. As a comparison, in the story The Fan Tower Restaurant as Witness to the Love of Zhou Shengxian , the dream encounter for Second Brother Fan of Zhou Shengxian after she was died is somehow less interesting. When reading the God Erlang s story, after god Erlang first appeared in Lady Han s garden I thought it was just her imagination of the god coming down to the man s world because her mind was full of the image of the god at that time. As the second time god Erlang appeared again in Lady Han s garden, I started to guess if this was someone s prank on Lady Han. The way god Erlang... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After I read this sentence, I was sure that god Erland was just an ordinary person who was attracted by Lady Han s beauty and wealth. The question of the uncertainty of the supernatural element urged me to continue and finish the story in order to find out the truth about who god Erlang was and how can he disappear by the windowsill without a trace. The supernatural element in the Fan story is less interesting to me. The only part that interested me in the Fan story is when Zhu Zhen opened Zhou Shengxian s coffin and Zhou Shengxian came back to life and ask Zhu Zhen, brother, who might you be? (Feng, 284). After I read this part of the story, I was really curious of how can a died person woke up suddenly (she was died a year ago). • 8. Discrimination Quotes In Frankenstein Discrimination in Frankenstein Have you ever discriminated against someone or been discriminated against because you were different? Frankenstein is a book that explores society and human behavior when someone different is introduced. It says that humans are not always willing to introduce someone new to their society and that sometimes they tend to discriminate against the different one. To show this, the writer used a monster which was introduced to a human society. This monster is rejected everywhere he goes because of his difference. He is rejected by his creator, and then he is rejected by the villagers, by the farmers who the monster had so long admired and in the end by the reader himself. Unable to endure the aspect of the being I had created, I rushed out of the room . The writer uses this quote to show that the creator, in this case Victor Frankenstein, is the first to reject the monster as he rushes out of the room. Victor had worked day and night trying to create an individual that would be and would look like a human. Once Victor had finished creating this monster he realized how not human like the monster was and decided to reject him as the book states: I had desidered it with an ardour that far exceeded moderation; but now that I had finished the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror filled my heart .. • 12. Spinster, by Sylvia Plath Spinster by Sylvia Plath is a poem that consists of a persona, who in other words serves as a second self for the author and conveys her innermost feelings. The poem was written in 1956, the same year as Plath s marriage to Ted Hughes, who was also a poet. The title suggests that the persona is one who is not fond of marriageand the normal rituals of courtship as a spinster is an unmarried woman, typically an older woman who is beyond the usual age of marriage and may never marry. The persona of the poem is a woman who dislikes disorder and chaos and finds relationships to be as unpredictable as the seasonof spring, in which there is no sense of uniformity. In the winter, nothing is out of proportion and everything is disciplined like the heart, whereas in the spring when budding relationships and spring fever make the heart out of control. This image of winter that Plath provides, suggests that the woman is cold emotionally as she has little emotion. She has the frame of mind that nature like human interaction should be in black and white with as little color or disarray as possible. Towards the end of the poem, Plath once again discloses the persona s abhorrence toward spring. She writes, but hereвЋЇa burgeoning unruly enough to pitch her five queenly wits into vulgar motley (19 21). The word burgeoning , which means growth, indicates the persona admitting that she knows that growth is uncontrollable: flowers bloom, relationships develop, and spring occurs every year (19). However, the persona is depressed because she feels like she has no control and that scares her. Spring is too complex for her to understand and it falls outside of her comfort zone. Still, by using the phrase five queenly wits , Plath points out that the reader feels superior to all that is in disorder (20). Plath explains, let idiots reel giddy in bedlam spring: she withdrew neatly , which implies that the persona separates herself from society and would rather be in solitude (23 24). Not real in the way that there are actual aliens but species are acting like aliens which means they are invasive. If we don t help solve the problem then who else will? We are the only ones who can solve the problem. An example of an invasive speciestaking over are alien invasions. In any alien invasion movie or book aliens come to a planet invade it and try to take it over. That is pretty much what invasive species do. About sixty European starlings were released into New York s Central Park in 1890 by Eugene Schieffelin and their descendants have spread across the United States, northward to southern Canada and Alaska, and southward into Central America (Maine gov Par1). There are now an estimated 150 million starlings in the United States alone. We need to stop this invasion but why exactly should we stop this? If we don t make a change many species will die. This will not be easy, and it will take many resources. So if we wait long enough nature could just sort itself out. But that will take a long time and is very risky. Though doing nothing about the invasion is easy and less resourceful it has many problems. Kids, and especially boys, idolize their father throughout their younger and even into their adult life. Children take anything that their father says as truth and see what they do as the only way to live. In Death of a Salesman Arthur Miller portrays how the absence of a father taking on the role of raising his children can affect the children for the rest of their life. • 15. Social Injustice In To Kill A Mockingbird Justice has long been considered something that is important to the success of a society. However justice in itself is something that is hard to achieve. Recently in the news, a story has arisen regarding a father who was not able to afford a lawyer, due to this he was not able to see his kids for five years. This is what some people would call political injustice, a case in which someone s given rights have been ignored. This is very common despite people saying that justice should be given to all people. Social injustice is a case in which people are affected by less government and law related issues, including, environmental rights, civil rights, and an access to education. This can be also seen clearly in To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Through the society that Harper Lee portrays in her novel she suggests that justice is something worth fighting for. Examples of both social and polГtical injustice becomes apparent. Social injustice is a common theme throughout the novel. This can appear in cases of stereotypes. Many people in the town of Maycomb have families that are over generalized. Such as the Cunninghams, who never took anything they can t pay back. (Lee 26). However some of these stereotypes are very inaccurate. For instance, Walter Cunningham went to dinner with the Finches, this was something that he could not pay back, but he did it anyway. • 17. South Park Stereotypes One of the most famous yet vulgar cartoon shows Comedy Central is known for is South Park. Anyone can recognize the predictable cry of, O my God! They killed Kenny! or them seeing the infamous Mr. Hanky, the dancing and talking Christmas poo. This cartoon has four main characters that speak like crude adults but in bodies of eight year old fourth grade boys who live in South Park, Colorado. This leaves the door open for any age of viewers, although there is a strong following with younger viewers around ages eighteen to thirty nine year old males (Nixon 1999:12). South Park is a very popular show that taunts stereotypes such as in race, religion, history, and gender. The thing is, South Park depicts American culture through every episode. Whether it is anything from the media, celebrities, current phenomenon or violence. Some adults understandably express concern at this supposed emphasis on killing and death, as well as the implied violence (Nixon 1999:14). But it s not the violent deaths that intrigue the children but more of the randomness of humor. A referendum that took place only days before resulted in an 82% turnout rate, with over 90% of the ballots casting in favor of Crimea s reunification with Russia ( History: What does Crimea, 2014). Many questioned the reasoning behind Russias sudden need to reestablish its hold on Crimea; legally a Ukrainian territory. The Russian Ukrainian relationship dates back to the ninth to the mid thirteenth century in the Eastern Slavic state of Kievan Rus; an area that expanded from the Baltic to the Black Sea (Bates, 2014). Because of its weakened state, much of Russia s distress towards Western policies was noticeably dismissed. Despite having unwaveringly opposed NATO s expansion to include previously Russian territories such as Ukraine and Georgia (Mearsheimer, 2014), in the mid 1990s, the Clinton administration openly disregarded Russia s concerns by pushing for NATO s expansion towards previous members of the Soviet Union. Without these essential cultural components, life would be a sad place to live in, because no other cultural aspect would survive. The most essential cultural elements are Art and Literature, because art and literature lead into the other cultural aspects. Without arts and literature, you couldn t have the rest of the cultural elements. Culture manifested itself with the aid of art and literature, without the help of writing or art, cultural unity would be impossible. A good example of a culture without writing and art would be the early humans; their culture did not carry along, and one tribe would be completely different than the other, and they couldn t even speak to express their ideas. It wasn t until early humans began to draw cave art that ideas could be expressed, and then culture grew and evolved and spread into government s and civilizations and certain ways of doing things, as well as religion and any of the other cultural elements. That s why art and literature are prerequisite to the development of all the other elements of culture. Art and literature are necessary to communicate and spread the rest of the cultural elements. When DNA tests become invalidated, the test can no longer be relied on to be accurate. Forensics relies on the total accuracy of their test. When a test s accuracy cannot be verified, it cannot be used as evidence. With all of the data that laboratories have to process, how can the accuracy of the data be checked? One parent is Garveyism, an ideology which at its essence is a Black supremacist socio political movement with the end goal of repatriating African descendants in the diaspora back to Africa and and Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity. The Ethiopian Orthodox Church is one of the five monophysite churches, characterised by their rejection of the Council of Chalcedon 451 AD(Ethiopian) This council was convened in an effort to create uniformity in regards to doctrine amongst varying christian sects. One of the many decisions agreed upon was that God had two distinct natures in Christ. Ethiopian orthodox christianity vehemently disagreed with the council and instead decided that Christ s humanity cannot be separated from his divinity.(Encyclopedia britannica) The Ethiopian church was for most of its existence placed under the jurisdiction of the Coptic Church of Egypt. In 1959 the Ethiopian church became independent from Egypt when an Ethiopian patriarch was elected (Ethiopian) It most be noted that although the Ethiopian Orthodox church and associated teachings are accepted by the Rastafarian community all other christian denominations are rejected. Gandhi once said, Religionwhich takes no account of practical affairs and does not help to solve them, is no religion ( Young India, 7 5 25, 164). Religion to Gandhi required an effect on everyday life. Gandhi had no fear and allowed religion to affect his daily affairs. This was imperative to the many radical movements and ideas Gandhi proposed. When he founded the Natal Indian Congress at twenty five, he was a tabula rasa: he tried out ideas which in an established political organization would have been directly laughed at (Nanda, Shri B. African American author Maya Angelou recollects on her experience of graduation from the eighth grade in her 1940 piece Graduation Day. In baseball, the book Moneyball revolutionized the way that the whole sport looked at analytics. Basketball has a comparable situation. The book Basketball on Paper dives into the numbers behind the sport (Haefner 10). In this book, author Dean Oliver states there are four main statistics to tell which team will win, and also states of how much importance these statistics are. He says that a team s shooting is forty percent of winning, turnovers are twenty five percent, rebounding is twenty percent, and and free throws are fifteen percent (Haefner 11). One of the fathers of analytics in basketball claims that shooting is far and away the most important statistic in the game. However, in order to know how a team is performing in this category, the team must be compared against other teams. Doing this is extremely easy. If comparing two teams playing each other, the opposing team s effective field goal percentage is simply subtracted from the team being observed (Haefner 15). A golden example of the utility of effective field goal percentage is the Golden State Warriors. This team has broken records for three pointers made, and recently won seventy three games in a single season. The Warriors have an advantage on almost every other team in the NBA because of the vast amount of three pointers that they take (Dizikes 2). The ease with which effective field goal percentage can be used and its direct correlation to which team wins the game makes it possibly the most useful statistic in the game of basketball. I will briefly summarize the research, explain how it relates to me and then explain why other educators should read this article. This article was very interesting and had my attention throughout. The author that completed this case study was interested in reading fluency for ELL students. He began by first and foremost examining different research about the topic. A brief summary of reading accusation was provided which talked about the basic components of reading, which are decoding and comprehension (Lorence, 2015). The focus was based on direct instruction and how it would influence Arabic speaking ELL. The reason the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout her childhood, the older sister, Elsa, remains confined to her room, unable to play with her sister and forced to repress her magic. In one of the film s most heart wrenching moments, Elsa sits on the opposite side of the door from her sister, just inches away from her, yet sobbing because she lives isolated from the rest of her family. Elsa s parents ultimately abandon her to deal with her emotional turbulence and growing powers alone, and when they die, Elsa lacks someone with whom she can share her grief. Thus, Elsa spends her childhood alone,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though line 1 and the beginning of line 2, where the speaker summon[s] up remembrance (2), describe the speaker in the temporal present, the reference to things past (2) marks the first mention of the past occurrence for which the speaker grieves. Due to the sonnet s constant shifts between past and present, literary critic Helen Vendler argues that Sonnet 30 participates in a form of temporal hop scotching, whereby the poet s present self deliberately and habitually [makes] the tears flow again... willingly [calling] up the griefs of the past (165). Specifically, Vendler contends that the first quatrain introduces two of five major periods of time from Sonnet 30 the speaker s present thoughts and his past losses. The wordplay in the third line, where the speaker sigh[s] for things sought (3) spotlights this tension between past and present, as Shakespeare [invents] a new verb (Vendler 167) to distinguish the two. In the fourth line, Shakespeare delves deeper into his flashback, recounting his old woes (4) to depict a time of sorrow. Similarly, the metrical variation present in Shakespeare s dear times waste (4) emphasizes the ambiguity of the sonnet s past the poet could mean a single catastrophic event or an entire lifetime, rendering the entire sonnet an ... It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month. Like many of the prophetic Books, we are given the range of Jeremiah s career as a prophet to the nation which spanned some fifty years. In verse two we learn that Gods call to Jeremiah comes in the 13th year of the reign of King Josiah which was in 627 BC. At this point the wicked king Manasseh is dead, to be followed by his wicked son Amon who eventually dies... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first reason Jeremiah should be encouraged to take up the ministry is that his very life is rooted in the unshakable, sovereign purposes of God. The same is true for every child of God. Second, God sanctified him. He set him apart for something significant. And that is true for us too. In giving every Christian grace and gifts, God consecrated us to be like Jesus and to use our gifts for his glory. And third, God ordained Jeremiah to be a prophet. I ordained you to be a prophet to the nations. This is why Jeremiah was born. This is his destiny. And you have one too. No Christian exists merely to make an honest living, raise a family, enjoy retirement, and die. Every one of us is called to a ministry. Then in verse six we hear of Jeremiah s anxiety and excuse when he is called: Then said I: Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth. This is quite similar to the excuse Moses made who said: O my Lord, I am not eloquent. But God says who makes man s mouth now go. And enabling the call, the Lord encourages Jeremiah by saying (1:7 8): Do not say, I am a youth, for you shall go to all to whom I send you, and whatever I command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of their faces, for I am with you to deliver you, says the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Ethnography of Performance Essay Ethnography of Performance During a musical performance many elements to be looked are not easily recognized by the average critic. A musical performance has multiple interactions taking place between the music, text, performers, audience, and space that all can contribute to a great performance. Overwhelming majority of the audience does not realize so much can be looked at during a single performance. At a performance by the University of Maryland Marching Band I was able to analyze the Musical Sound, Contexts of the Performance, and Interpretation of the Performance. When analyzing musical sound there are many factors to pay attention to during the performance. Important things to listen for are the pitch, scale, timbre, tone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the performance there were many overtones and one fundamental tone, which deals with the timbre and tone quality. The overtones produce additional sounds that enable us to distinguish between different instruments even when they are sounding the same pitch (Kaemmer:60). The tone quality of the performance was very good. The music sounded evenly distributed and it was very easy to hear the sounds of the various instruments. The band played two songs and one song had a slow rhythm and the other had a faster rhythm. Rhythm means more than a basic beat (Kaemmer:65). During the performance there was a steady rhythm. Also during the performance there was a section of the song that sounded different and after about ten seconds the song goes back to its previous sound. That sound was a melody. Melodies are combination of pitches and rhythm patterns that produce a distinctive line of sound (Kaemmer:62). When the band first began to play the song started in a low tone and the music began to escalate and it reached a climax where the loudness of the performance was at its peak. Once at its peak the music began to get softer and lower. This is an example of a linear form of the performance. Linear form means a performance having a definite beginning and ending. The overall musical sound of the performance was delightful and pleasing to the ears. The context of a musical performance is another key part of any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Carburettors Advantages And Disadvantages In order for an internal combustion engine to operate correctly, a mixture of fuel and air needs to enter into the combustion chamber, pressurised and then ignited by a spark ignition which then drives the piston to rotate. The way that the fuel is introduced into the combustion chamber has evolved over the decades. Before electronic fuel injection, carburettors were the primary method of mixing air and fuel. Carburettors work on the Bernoulli s principle: the faster the air moves, the lower its static pressure and the higher its dynamic pressure. The throttle actuates carburettor mechanisms which meter the flow of air being pulled into the engine, the speed of this flow and therefore its pressure determines the amount of fuel drawn into the airstream. Carburettors consist of an intake of air being pushed into the intake manifold to the engine. The build up of fast dynamic pressure will initiate fuel delivery action by providing a vacuum for fuel to enter the intake with the manifold propagating as a mixture chamber to atomise the fuel into the air to create an ideal mixture. Carburettors use Bernoulli s principle, where the speed of air intake entering the engine intake manifold in relation to the potential difference of pressure will meter the correct amount of fuel to be sucked in. The disadvantage of a carburettor is that the amount of fuel being delivered cannot be fully controlled and carburettors tend to have higher fuel to air ratios and sometimes flood the engine ... Jon Stewart Discussion On The Ferguson, Missouri Coverage Introduction The satire option that I chose for the purpose of this assignment is the Jon Stewart discussion on the Ferguson, Missouri coverage. Here, Jon, the satirist is an arbiter of American political media, and as a media critic, he is also the former television host of The Daily Show which is a satirical news program that airs on Comedy Central. In the video, Jon Stewart critiqued topics revolving around the shooting of teenager Michael Brown by the police. The topics ranged from police brutality, black lives matter, negative stereotypes, double standards, white privileged and an unacceptable mentality of sheer ignorance of some Americans towards people of color, in other words, African American in a comedic but very real sense. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hence, the claims are believable as the show relies heavily on the use of various news footages, often in a documentary way that employs archival video to show contrast and contradiction, even if the purpose is satirical rather than reportorial. The content on the show is unburdened by objectivity, journalistic integrity or even accuracy, nevertheless, it speaks volumes with Jon Stewart s big unauthoritative persona as he attempts to breakdown on selective representation. Content Reliability The reliability of the content presented in The Daily show with regards to the Ferguson, Missouri coverage by Jon Stewart is reliable enough or fairly reliable. I say that because as much as it is credible, it does have a real yet comedic satire spin to it. As mentioned earlier, The Daily Show relies on various news footages and instead of solely relying on these bias sources, Jon Snow puts his own critical spit to it. He raises controversial issues that mainstream media coincidently neglects. With regards to the Ferguson, Missouri controversy, he filled in the blanks and dared to say the unsaid and emphasised the existence of white supremacist and white privilege and compare and contrasted white and black people experience and interaction with the law enforcements agents. • 48. Othello Play And Movie Comparison Essay Many people prefer the book version of a story rather than the film it tries to become. This is due to the fact that the author s intent of his own story is much more intriguing and familiar to its readers than just another film version. However, some versions portray the story better than others. Hollywood seems to have taken up the responsibility of creating complicated and compelling characters on screen. Unfortunately, doing so can easily take away a story s rich, necessary detail. For instance, Shakespeare s Othello has a few different movie versions of his story. Both movies, the 1990 version by Trevor Nunn and the 1995 version by Oliver Parker, are great productions carried by strong casts. However, there are areas in which the movie and the play differ. These differences tend to interpret the filmin a different way compared to what Shakespeare intended. The film portrayals of Shakespeare s Othello by Parker and the other by Nunn both display the character of Desdemona in very different ways. The Nunn version of this play did a much better job of portraying Desdemona as Shakespeare... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the first scene she appears in, she is dressed in all white and looks like a peasant. Her white clothing symbolizes purity and wholeness. She always jumped into the scene with excitement in her voice when she spoke. Nunn also made it obvious that Desdemona s character is very naive, just like a pure child would be.
