Cyber Warfare And Cyber Crime
Introduction The internet is everywhere. It has become the most widely used and accessed technology
platform on the planet. It seems like it s almost gotten to the point where your blender is going to need
an IP address unless you want an outdated smoothie. So of course in this day and age when computing
and online interaction has become so pervasive that it would be of paramount importance to protect
your networks, your devices and yourself. Not only is cyber space ubiquitous, but cyber attacks as
well. Every day worldwide countless governments, companies, and private citizens are subject to
cyber attacks. The security world works round the clock in an attempt to stay ahead of the attackers.
One of the most important tools that helps the security tools stay ahead of would be attackers are
honeypots. The aptly named security tool works as a decoy device tricking attackers to believe it is
part of, or actually is the system they are attempting to compromise. Honeypots have become a
necessary accessory in the war on cyber crime, not only for the purposes of detection and prevention,
but for the purpose of studying and gaining a better understanding of the tools and techniques of cyber
attacks. The next section of this paper will look into the history and background of honeypots. Then
the current state of honeypots are discussed a long with relevant technologies that are making waves
in the decoy technology world. Followed by a look into emerging state of the art

Cultural Intelligence Of The United States And Italy
Globalization has made it paramount for businesses and individuals that want to venture into a
different country to have cultural intelligence of that country. Cultural intelligence is defined as
capability to successfully adapt to new cultural environments and unfamiliar settings attributable to
cultural context (Earley, Ang, and Tan 2006). Obtaining cultural knowledge allows business
relationships to flourish, provides feasibility and sustainability for the business. It also shows cultural
sensitivity, which is important when trying to win over locals of a specific area.
The United States and Italy
The United States and Italy are both advanced industrial countries, yet they differ in many areas
including culture and how business is conducted. The United States has very little cultural influence
on Italy; in fact it is the opposite. The element of diversity is deep within the United States that it has
become a melting pot filled with an array of music, food, language, and many other customs that are
not native. The relationship between the two countries has seen its adversity but they have created a
strong bilateral relationship which aids in strengthening the economy of both countries. In the 2013
Italy United States Summit then Ambassador David Thorne stated Globalization is the disruptive
force, in both a positive and negative sense, that is challenging both of our countries today and it is
reshaping our traditional ways of thinking about the world. As markets

Novel Analysis Of Persepolis By Marjane Satrapi
Truong Dao
Period 4
Persepolis Novel Analysis Why don t some people like to read? That is because they don t like looking
at a wall of texts on each page. Having a book with hundred pages of text and words can cause some
readers to not like reading. That is why many readers prefer reading graphic books or novels.
Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi is a graphic novel about a young girl growing up in Iran during the
Iranian Revolution and the Iran Iraq War. Satrapi choose to tell her story in graphic novel form instead
of normal prose based novel because she want to have the ability to control what image the audiences
see on the page, and with the use simplistic style of drawing with black and white color, makes the
readers feels more connected and understand more of the story. ... Show more content on

In a prose based novel, the author still is able to describe a scene to the audience in some details, but
not everyone will visualize the same image because everyone brains work differently. Some will
visualize the image differently than other, even if the image is only slightly different by a small detail.
But in Persepolis, the author has more power over what appears on the page and what the readers will
visualize because it s in a graphic novel form. For instance, when Marjane is talking to her image of
God, which lends a kind of veracity to her statement: we can at least see that Marji believes she is
truly talking to God. But God is drawn as a large and sizeable figure with long, flowing white hair and
beard, which is very familiar to the figure of God in the Western world

Grizzly Man Sparknotes
Werner Herzog is arguably one of the most creative and innovative directors of our time. He has
produced many pictures over the past few decades ranging from a documentary on Antarctica s
beauty, to a short series on death row inmates. Herzog gained recognition as a German director in the
late 70 s to early 80 s for films like Signs of Life and Fitzcarraldo, receiving much critical acclaim.
Since then he has released many box office hits like Grizzly Man and Recscue dawn, based on the true
story of Dieter Dengler. Grizzly Man, released in 2006, is about the tragic death of an eccentric wild
life activist named Timothy Treadwell. This analysis will examine the validity to the indexical and
interpretive material in Grizzly Man. Herzog uses original Timothy Treadwell footage as well as
personal interviews to represent the reality he perceives, using the reflexive and performative modes
in the documentary. Although it is impossible to show the entire picture of Timothys story, there is
enough information provided to support Herzogs position revealed at the end. Without Treadwell alive
to speak for himself, the film remains balanced through the many interviews of people in his life.
The film starts out with Treadwells original footage of him talking to the camera. In the background
are two huge bears, at a fairly distant but still frightening distance. He is alone in the Alaskan
wilderness speaking to the camera about his love for bears, saying that he is there just to observe

The Consumer Trends Of The Students Of Coventry University...
Introduction
This empirical study looks to investigate the consumer trends of the students of Coventry University
London Campus (CULC). The aim of this study is to see what the students at CULC prefer in terms of
technology. Today a smartphone is able to do all the functions that a computer can normally do and
with the passage of time, we see the grasp of smartphones and tablets getting firmer on our lives.
According to Ahmed (1991, p.25) a clear and strong brand image of can drastically increase the
confidence of the consumers and it can also convince the consumers to purchase the
Smartphone/tablet. Nowadays a vital factor in the consumer buying decision is brand. Customers are
more inclined towards a brand that they are familiar with as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It helps them to better understand the customer segment that is probably the largest chunk of their
market share. They understand as to what brand is preferred by students, what their age and gender is
and most importantly, how much are they willing to spend on technology. This helps them to make
future decisions that can be vital for the company. Alongside this, it also gives them an understanding
of competition and helps them analyze how far ahead or behind the market they are and accordingly
steps can be taken in the future by the company.
For this study, we used surveys using surveymonkey.com and a sample of 66 students was taken
altogether. This sample helps us analyze the student preference for brands and the time and money
they spend on technology.
Sample
The survey that was conducted on surverymonkey.com was circulated to the students of CULC on 1st
November 2014. The responses that we got were from 66 students and the pie chart below shows the
gender of the respondents:
The chart above shows us that 68.18% of the respondents were males and the remaining 31.82% were
females. Overall the responses that we got from the survey were satisfactory and they give us a
reasonable representation of the student preferences for technology here at CULC. However, we must
recognize that this sample is not an entire representation of the student body here at CULC. People

FIU Athletic Case Study
For any athletic program during any sporting event, a brawl breaking out between the two opposing
teams could be considered an undesirable situation. During a game between the Florida International
University Golden Panthers and the Miami Hurricanes, that very thing happened and severe
punishments were handed down by both programs to those involved. On October 14, 2016, a game
between these two cross town rivals took place, and there was trash talk and penalties throughout the
game. All of these penalties and trash talk led to a brawl that took place after a touchdown catch by
running back James Bryant. According to Susan Miller Degnan, Barry Jackson, and Michelle
Kaufman of the Miami Herald, after Bryant ran inside the pylon for the score, ... Show more content

According to Florida International s athletic department mission statement (2014), participation in FIU
Athletics will provide student athletes with the opportunity to pursue a quality education in one of
America s leading urban universities and develop a value system which encourages discipline,
teamwork, self confidence, and leadership skills, and sportsmanship in an equitable and diverse
environment (p.15). Had this sentence not been a part of their mission statement prior to this event, it
would have made for a perfect addition to their mission statement after the brawl occurred. Every
student athlete involved in this brawl should have received a rougher punishment than what was
handed down to them. It is unclear what Florida International s mission statement was prior to this
incident, however, based upon their current mission statement those athletes would receive the harsh
punishment they deserve. Based upon what the Florida International University Athletic Department s
mission statement currently states, those athletes involved in this brawl should have not just received a
dismissal from the team, but a dismissal from the school as well. Those athletes who do not deserve
the scholarships they are handed and embarrass the institution they are attending do not deserve to

What Is The Mood Of The Lady Of Shalott
In the poem The Lady of Shalott, we find a woman, who is trapped inside of her own home by a curse.
She is faced with the fact that she cannot experience reality due to this curse that for whatever reason
has been placed on her. The poet uses imagery and symbolism to portray the feelings in the story as
well as the hidden meanings within the poem. Imagery within the story poses the mood of the setting.
The poem states, Four gray walls, and four gray towers, overlook a space of flowers (Part 1, Stanza 2).
The poet describes the place in which the lady dwells as being very dreary, and lonesome. Also, the
poet talks about the Lady of Shalott being tired of the shadows which also provides insight into the
living conditions in which the woman resides. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both the mirror and the loom act as key symbols in the story. For the mirror, it represents the absence
or even a fake reality. The Lady of Shalott longs for experience of true reality, in which she cannot
experience due to the curse imposed on her. Though a mirror reflects the image of reality, what is seen
is not the actual thing. The loom acts in a similar way. As the woman slaves over her works of art, she
never directly sees the progression of her craft, but only the reflection of it. In light of the Victorian
era, art acts in the same way. Art is a portrayal of reality from the view of the artist. Like the role of
the mirror, art does not directly show reality but the reflection of

Also; Citigroup, Inc. another competitor for the GE Company made a total of $64.95 billion in 2011,
and when we compare it with GE and SI its earnings where even less in the same year, making
General Electric a leader in the industry. With this valuable information GE management can analyze
its competitor s financial statements results and from there they can evaluate their faults and create
new ways to increase their annuals earnings and secure their place as one of leading companies in
their industry. Another way GE can go forward in the industry is by adapting its services and products
to other countries that need them. To maintain its leading position GE posses Advance Technology
Programs witch conduct researches in nanotechnology, molecular medicine, energy conversion,
advance propulsion, sustainable energy and organic electronics (General Electric Company, 2012).
One of the advance technologies that GE and SI have in common is the research in molecular imaging
and diagnosis; GE trying to create new tools for physicians so in the future they could better and faster
diagnose person s diseases with their own molecular makeup (Ciabuschi, 2005). Siemens Ag on the
other hand is trying to improve MRI s so they can create a single continuous move which will result in
faster scanners and increase image quality and they are also doing researches in the molecular
department. On the other hand GE and

In 1914, the British government became the company s principle stockholder. While the company was
originally registered as the Anglo Persian Oil Company, Ltd; in response to the Persian government
voting to change its name to Iran in 1935, the company was renamed the Anglo Iranian Oil Company,
Ltd. Unfortunately, over the next couple Decades, sentiment in Iran began to turn against the
company. The Iranian government began to believe that they were being taken advantage of, and that
the British company was reaping profits at the expense of the Iranian people. In 1951, due in part to
these beliefs, the country elected Mohammed Mossedegh as Prime Minister, who pushed to
nationalize the holdings of the Anglo Iranian Oil Company. Later that year, Iran voted on a bill
nationalizing the oil company so that oil profits would then benefit Iran. The result was an
international boycott of Iran. Nationalization was not accepted by the British government and their
strategy consisted of no mediation, no compromise, no acceptance of nationalization of any form.
(CBS, 2010) The British withdrew their technicians, blocked the port, cut off exports to Iran, and froze
Iran s hard currency accounts in Britain. Finally, the British turned to the U.S. government for
assistance. Their assistance came in the form of a CIA operation to depose the

Constantine Stanislavsky is the Father of Today s Style...
Stanislavsky is the father of today s style of acting. Constantine Stanislavsky (1863 1938) was the
innovator for method acting. He changed the process of acting in which actors immerse themselves
into their characters as much as possible. He wanted acting to change to a realistic art. Stanislavsky
wanted his actors to avoid habitual mannerisms on stage (Worthen, 33). He used a method that
includes five techniques to help an actor submerge into their characters. The magic if, re education,
observation, motivation and emotional memory are all techniques Stanislavsky used to help mold his
actors (Bradford).
The first technique requires the actor to use their imagination. The magic if requires the actor to ask
themselves what my character would do in this situation. The next technique used is reeducation.
Whether it s being onstage to a live audience or on film, actors need to find a way to display true
human life movement. When figuring out body movement or body language actors must think of
every action as part of their character. Stanislavsky encouraged his students to observe people
whenever possible. He encouraged them to study their physical traits as well as their personality.
Stanislavsky reminded his students that every person is unique and therefore each unique trait should
be exhibited. The technique is a very valuable tool because actors often find inspiration by observing
others. Actors often ask themselves what is my motivation? This process entails a lot of why

Evolution Was Introduced By Charles Darwin
The idea of evolution was introduced by Charles Darwin, and explains how animals change over time.
The theory states that every organism on the Earth originated from a common ancestor and then,
through the process of natural selection, how those animals branched off to become different
organisms. Scholars use this theory to explain how animals that live on Earth change over time.
However, scientists find it difficult to use this theory to explain some events that occurred in the
geologic time period, such as the Cambrian Explosion. The Cambrian explosion was a macro
evolutionary event that happened during the late Ediacaran and early Cambrian period. It introduced a
number of phyla on the Earth, and significantly affected the animal ... Show more content on

When a mass extinction takes place, the dominant species of that time get removed, enabling other
organisms to use the resources they once did. This means that the extinction of the Ediacaran animals
could have left a pathway for the newly made Cambrian species. Unfortunately, there are problems
that arise when examining this theory. The extinction of the Ediacaran period does not explain the
polyphyletic nature or the lengthy duration of the Cambrian Explosion (Xingliang Zhang, 2014).
Another theory scholars believe could have led to the rapid appearance of polyphyletic organisms in
the Cambrian could have occurred from the mineral and salinity content of the water. The salt
concentration that is present in the water controls and limits the amount of biologic activity, since the
saltier an area is, the fewer animals can live there. Less animals are able to survive in places that have
high salt concentration due to the process of osmosis, which dehydrates the animals making them
unable to survive in those environments. From looking at ocean salinity modeling, which was
developed by observing maximum and minima values of present day evaporates, scholars have
concluded that there was a significant salinity decline from the Neoproterozoic to the Cambrian. The
decline in salinity seen in this time period, may have had an

Road Is All
Willa Cather once said, The end is nothing, the road is all. I think this quote means that the journey is
all that matters, not the destination. I strongly agree with this opinion. It brings people closer together,
creates wonderful memories, and also creates a strong bond between you and other people. Though
the destination is what everyone really wants, the journey and the company are just as important as
well. Once you get to the end, what happens next? It is just simply the end. People could cherish the
moments that the road in the destination gives you.
To me this quote means that the road is all because it brings people closer together. When I lived in
California, my family and I went on a road trip to Oklahoma, Georgia, North Carolina, and Minnesota
to visit family members. The travel was actually really fun. The quote relates to this situation because
the journey to all four states were what brought us together and created fun. Even though all of us
were dying to finally get to our destination; especially because we were traveling by car, we soon
realized that it wasn t so bad after all. We saw lots of different things, talked more to each other, ...

Being a woman in an already constrained society led to many problems, to the point where Ghada felt
her only escape was to stab a soldier. Although unsuccessful, Ghada s desperate attempt displays the
burdens placed on Palestinian women and the realities of what they must deal with everyday under
Israeli control. Ghada was forced to stay in an unhappy marriage with her cousin, whose mother she
did not get along with. This relationship was also strained by the fact that she was separated from her
family by a border controlled by the Israelis. Ghada s options for a successful divorce were limited in
the sense that if she requested the separation, she would have to give up the second half of her dowry,
which would have a negative financial consequence for herself and her family. Along with that, her
reputation would be tarnished in the village, which would make it very difficult for Ghada to make it

are regarded in the modern Middle East. They are restricted in all aspects of life, whether it is socially

Thermo mechanically affected zone (TMAZ): In this region, the material has been plastically
deformed by the friction stir welding tool, and the heat from the process will also have exerted some
influence on the material. In the case of aluminium, it is possible to get significant plastic strain
without recrystallization in this region, and there is generally a distinct boundary between the
recrystallized zone and the deformed zones of the TMAZ. In the earlier classification, these two sub
zones were treated as distinct microstructural regions. However, subsequent work on other materials
has shown that aluminium behaves in a different manner to most other materials, in that it can be
extensively deformed at high temperature without recrystallization. In other materials, the distinct
recrystallized region (the nugget) is absent, and the whole of the TMAZ appears to be recrystallized.
This is certainly true of materials which have no thermally induced phase transformation which will in
itself induce recrystallization without strain, for example pure titanium, b titanium alloys, austenitic
stainless steels and copper. In materials such as ferritic steels and a b titanium alloys (e.g.Ti 6Al 4V),
understanding the microstructure is made more difficult by the thermally induced phase
transformation, and this can also make the HAZ/TMAZ boundary difficult to identify

John Locke Is Wrong And Identity Of Humans

just like what the scientists say? Or are humans something else, a soul perhaps? This has been debated

A simple example of this is: The person is the same person as someone in the past if the person has the
consciousness of the experience that the someone in the past did. Thus, the identity of a person is
limited to how much the conscious of later person remembers their earlier conscious memories. Only
then he is truly the same person or himself. But then this bring few questions: Can there be a the same
thinking substance in different people or different thinking substance in the same person and how do
we punish people? To answer the first question he believes that the issue lies whether a immaterial
being with consciousness could have its consciousness of its past actions be completely removed then
begin a life with new consciousness. Nonetheless if it was possible then Locke argues that there is no
reason to say that the person who s soul and conscious lived before the removal is the same person
whose new consciousness took over. To answer the second part, Locke says that the answer depends
on whether the conscious of the past actions can be transferred to another person who did not
experience it. Locke believes this phenomenon is possible and if it was, would this person be the same

To begin with the banquet, the host will toast to everyone, and the guest should stand and drink from
their cup. After that, during the banquet, the host will toast to everyone, it is very impolite to refuse to
drink. According to Eugene Cooper (2007), the most important rule of Chinese table manners is the
seating arrangements. If a banquet is a simple dinner which just have one or two tables in a room, then
the highest ranked person should sit in the place which facing the entrance, as it has the best view of
the room(Rina B 2011). However, if it is a big banquet, the most respectful table is in the middle as it
is the central and has the best view of the banquet. In addition, all the people will focus on the central
table when the reader begins to toast.
2.2 Giving a gift
In China, giving a gift is not always regard as a bribe. On the other hand, it indicates that you are
interested in building a relationship. When giving a gift in Chine, the color of the wrap should be
carefully choose. In china, the red color is regarded as a lucky color, gold means wealth; pink and
yellow are also acceptable. However, avoid using black or white wrap as it used in funeral. Beside, do
not just giving a gift to one person without giving to the others, which would be considered as very
impolite (UNSW Press 2008).

Redefining Heroism Throughout The Language Of The Brag

Redefining Heroism in the Language of the Brag
Sharon Olds author of the Language of the Brag, suggests through her experience in the poem that our
society and culture altogether is male dominated towards achievement and focused more for men s
success and heroism. Men are typically known for their strength and courage, especially heroic acts in
society. When things are expected to get done, it s naturally expected for the guy to do it. And through
her use of repetition and tone in the Language of the Brag the author describes certain attributes that
she once lacked to later achieving in the poem. Significantly, Olds uses repetition to make a statement
from I have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is also poetic action depicted in the poem, in which the writer establishes her longing to perform
an act of heroism or extraordinary achievement. I think my biggest surprise was her casual use of
sexual language, using a vibrating cock as a metaphor, and later using the knife reference again saying
she was stabbed in her inner sex. Sharon Olds speaks so fiercely about the woman s body, that you
feel she s almost competing against the constant objectivity against the woman s body. You can tell
she speaks from experience, she s watched the boys play and all she wants is to show them that she
has suffered as a woman and is better for it. She s stronger, prouder, and for that reason has a right to
brag and redefine heroism.
The middle of the poem is crucial because Sharon Olds is able to link heroism to the act of birth. It is
also where the speaker changes her statement from I have wanted to I have. Sharon Olds does this by
using graphic images to emphasize her point in the act of birth. She states, my inner sex/ stabbed again
and again with terrible pain like a knife./ I have lain down./ I have lain down and sweated and shaken/
and passed blood and feces and water and/ slowly alone in the center of a circle I have/ passed the new
person out (lines 19 25). This transition I have wanted to I have is important not only because its
shows the author s new found strength through the process of the act, Olds herself is finally the center

Examples Of Calpurnia In To Kill A Mockingbird
In the book To Kill a Mockingbird, Calpurnia can be described as respectful. For example, in chapter
1, Calpurnia and the kids are watching Mr. Radley leaving his house for the last time. There goes the
meanest man God ever blew breath into, murmured Calpurnia, and she spat meditatively into the yard.
We looked at her in surprise, for Calpurnia rarely commented on the ways of white people. Scout and
Jem looked at Calpurnia in surprise after she spoke about Mr. Radley, saying that she rarely
commented on the ways of white people. This shows that Calpurnia is respectful, since she holds back
from commenting about the horrible way white people treat black people, even though it s wrong. She
was most likely polite to Mr. Radley no matter how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scout notices that Calpurnia s voice seems strange . Then Calpurnia explains to them on why she
talked like that, and teaches them. I just wants to know why you bringin white chillun to our church.
They s my comp ny, said Calpurnia. Again I thought her voice strange: she was talking like the rest of
them... Suppose you and Scout talked colored folks talk at home it d be out of place, wouldn t it? Now
what if I talked white folks talk at church, and with my neighbors? They d think I was puttin on airs to
bear Moses. This shows that Calpurnia changes how she talks, she adapts herself to who she s with,
colored or not, to make them comfortable and not question how she talks, and to sound normal ,
according to what normal is to the people she s with. It is respectful because as she said, talking
colored folks at home would be out of place while talking white folks talk at church and with her
neighbors would also be out of place, so she is respectful of what people think is right. (Page 135 and
143) My final piece of evidence is in chapter 14 where Alexandra wants to make Calpurnia leave,
since she s there now, and Atticus defends her telling how Calpurnia is a faithful member of the family

The Wage Gap Is A Conflict Within The Work Force
The occupational wage gap has always been and still continues to be a conflict within the work force.
The gender wage gap is defined as the average income of a male compared to the average income of a
female. There have been a few laws that were put into effect due to women s efforts to create fairness
in the workplace. The first law, called the Equal Pay Act of 1963 signed into law by President John F.
Kennedy, requires men and women in the same workplace be given equal pay for equal work (U.S.
Equal Employment Opportunity Commission). The Paycheck Fairness Act is a recent extension of the
Equal Pay Act, it gives workers added protection to take action in the wage discrimination (National
Women s Law Center). When comparing full time and year round workers, 23.5% is the gap between
the annual male earnings compared to women and that has not changed much since 2001 (Burns, 1).
In the profession I have chosen, there is quite a difference in dominant gender between dental
hygienists and dentists. Dental hygiene is a very female dominated field of work, although few male
dental hygienists exist. Due to the gender roles our society has molded, hygiene is usually compared
to nursing because it revolves around care giving service and many believe that is not a task men are
usually willing to do. Contrary to belief, men can be just as, if not more, nurturing than women. On
the other hand, women are perfectly capable of becoming dentists as well. The culture we were raised

The Ethics Of Drilling Mud
5. The functions of drilling mud, and how their properties are modified to suit downhole conditions
Discussion of the problems the mud engineer has in selecting a mud for a HPHT well. Introduction
The drilling mud plays a critical role in any successful drilling operation. It must be carefully
optimised and managed to ensure the safety of the drilling operation and to minimise hole problems. A
failure in the mud design can lead to significant losses in terms of time and cost as a result of
problems such as stuckpipe, kicks and blowouts. Depending on the continuous phase, drilling mud can
be classified into water based and oil based. Drilling mud has the following functions: i. The drilling
mud is used in controlling the hydrostatic pressure by keeping it higher that the formation pressure. ii.
The mud is used to extract cuttings from the hole. The effectiveness of this function is contingent on
the yield point (YP) property of the mud. iii. A lot of heat is generated during drilling due to friction
and the mud works to cool and also lubricate the drill bit and drillpipe iv. To keep the integrity of the
hold by preventing caving. The drilling mud forms a mud cake on the walls of the formation which
stabilises it. v. Helps to release the drilled cuttings at the surface vi. Help minimise formation damage
by maintaining a low fluid loss into the formation vii. Assisting in formation evaluation viii. Keeps
cuttings in suspension when circulation has stopped The properties of

Henry Thoreau on Civil Disobedience
The Statue of Liberty is an American symbol of justice and freedom from oppression, yet in Henry
Thoreau s opinion, the U.S. government is completely antithetical. In Thoreau s essay on civil
disobedience, he introduces and accepts the motto, That government is best which governs not at all.
In his eyes, the government does more harm than good for its people. Underneath his seemingly main
idea, Thoreau implies an overall antithesis where he defines who, in his eyes, is allowed to be
disobedient. In order to advance this main idea and reinforce this mottos throughout the essay,
Thoreau uses metaphors and juxtaposition to strengthen this subtle antithesis found throughout the
essay. In his essay, Thoreau uses the extended metaphor of the government as machine to emphasize
how government dehumanizes its citizens. He relates the government to a machine in that it is made
up of many parts which all must work together for the machine to be successful. If something is
broken, one can fix the machine in order to better suit his/her needs. Thoreau introduces this metaphor
when he states, men serve the state not as men mainly, but as machines, with their bodies. He begins
with the first, military men who serve with their bodies. These men, in most cases, have no free
exercise of moral sense serving under the state. Without the use of their moral sense or conscience,
Thoreau comes to the conclusion that they can be replaced by objects such as wood and stones and
therefore, have

Potential Challanges
Several potential challenges exist to the validity and reliability of the research questions, data and
analysis. After looking at the survey and the data collected, some concerns are apparent to the validity
of the information. This survey conducted used two methods. The first method was an online survey.
The second survey method was a face to face questionnaire. The face to face survey was conducted in
struggling retail locations and vicinity. Shopping Malls and heavy populated areas were the locations
chosen for this survey. One major concern is that the participants used were not necessarily current
Starbucks customers. The purpose for this was to increase and promote Starbucks to non customers.
Questions regarding the current Starbucks menu and ambiance does not solicit a true response if the
individual surveyed is not a customer. Furthermore, competition coffee retailers are also a large

Turning Points In To Kill A Mockingbird
Everything has to evolve or else it perishes (Knowles 125). Turning points are the moments in our
lives that define who we are and how we feel; they help us evolve into different people. Often, that
evolution comes from a loss of innocence. In Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird, Jem changes from a
naive and optimistic child to a young adult with a more realistic view of life. In John Knowles A
Separate Peace, Finny also struggles with dealing with the reality of a world he doesn t really fit in.
Both boys face turning points that fundamentally change who they are, and in some ways, destroy
them. Phineas was a bubbly, charismatic, happy go lucky person who seemed to love life and all the
opportunities it brought. However, Finny s life completely changed when he fell out of a tree and
shattered his leg. Sports exemplified Finny, friendly competition with no clear winners or losers. After
Finny learned that he could not walk or play sports anymore, his once optimistic thoughts changed.
Later in the novel, Finny was no longer the happy, energetic person he used to be. He was depressed
about the current state he was in and upset that he couldn t enlist in the military. Finny wrote to every

war was because he was hurt by the fact that he couldn t participate. The fake war was a way to hide
his pain. He admitted to Gene that if the military accepted him, he would have immediately dispelled
his thoughts about the faux war and joined the real war effort. Finny held on to his disillusioned
innocence in an effort to preserve his life before the

How Asatru Is A Religion That Has Close Ties With Norse...
Asatru is a religion that has close ties with Norse mythology. The name of the religion, Asatru, is a
twofold word that gets it s meaning from Old Norse. The first half of the word, Asa, means Gods and
Goddesses and the second half Tru, means to have faith or belief in. Altogether Asatru means to have
faith in the gods. Asatru can be considered part of the Neo pagan family of religion since it has to do
with Norse Heathenism. The beginning of Asatru was not the start of the religion itself yet a revival of
an older religion. Before Asatru there was the Nordic religion. This religion was practiced before
Christianity came around. The Nordic religion is thousands of years old and its beginnings are lost in
prehistory. Yet, it is associated with the age of Vikings. Ancient Asatru and Modern Asatru is a folk or
tribal religion. In the 20th century an Icelandic sheep farmer named Sveinbjörn Beinteinsson created
an Asatru organization. The proper term for it is, Íslenska Ásatrúarfélagið which translates to Icelandic
fellowship of Aesir faith. Beinteinsson even petitioned for Asatru to be a recognized religion in the
early 1970s. After about a year of petitioning, Asatru became a known religion in Iceland.
Coincidentally, around the same time the organization was created in Iceland, there were communities
forming in the United States and in the United Kingdom. However, these three communities didn t
know of each other. According to www.religionfacts.com, This is a sign that

Student Athletes For The University Of Ohio
Secondly, for student athletes who practice a sport and attend classes, it is often difficult to complete
both tasks. Many students begin to show less motivation making it harder to stay focus and attend
their required classes. This is the case of student athlete Cardale Jones, a quarterback for the
University of Ohio. After taking his sociology final exam, he commented that coming to class was
pointless when his only responsibility was to play football for the university (Tracy 1). Student
athletes start to show poor academic achievement when they consume a lot of time in their sports and
often forget about their role of being a student. For instance, when students are not able to complete
their school assignments during the day they decide to study late and do not sleep the necessary hours
they need in order for their bodies to function and their brains to focus. In this case, the poor
achievement in students is notable because they do not perform well in school and do not have a good
nutrition. They often do not have time to eat the required three meals a day that their bodies need. The
poor academic achievement is often noticeable when many coaches begin to tell their athletes that
they are not allowed to take classes that interfere with practice. This puts athletes in a barrier when
they have to balance the two roles of responsibility of attending class and completing homework
assignments and attending the games. Student athletes have a poor mental and physical body

Ap English Poetry Essay
Moreover, the consistent integration of imagination and historical memory imparts a powerfully
suggestive sense of inevitability to Carter s ethics of change. The envisioned changes, even if
unrealized, are as much a part of a distinctive historical pattern, as is the past which made the present
itself inevitable. And this pervasive sense of inevitability inspires recurrent images and themes of
movement.
Altogether, these early collections reflect a tightly knit dialectic, with its closely integrated poetic
forms, which are to define a good part of Carter s poetry for much of the next fifteen years. The ethos
of change is both political ideal and the creative principle of imagination. The patterns of history are
mirrored in the imaginative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The underlying dialectic is compact, limpid, and consistent. The dialectic statement is tightly
controlled through a disciplined, highly economic use of language and sense of form; and as a result,
the poetic form itself becomes the imaginative microcosm of that moral wholeness and social unity
which the poetry envisions. Given this tightly integrated schema, it becomes clear that poems of
resistance are not simply poems about political resistance: they are acts of resistance. This implies an
aesthetic that has been rather rare in the generally conservative context of Anglophone Caribbean
literature. It was not to be aired in any significant sense, in any Caribbean language area, until the
successful Cuban revolution began to define its own revolutionary aesthetics during the 1960s: the
only valid revolutionary art is that which is committed to, and a part of, the revolution; writing about
the revolution is not enough, the writer must be an active participant in the revolution. Or to phrase
this ideal in Carter s poetic language, the poet must not simply write about resistance, he himself and
his poetry must be directly involved in

Conquest And The Start Of Colonialism
Conquest In the era preceding the age of conquest and the start of colonialism around the late 1400s
was a dark time in Europe both socially and economically. Under the feudalist system, there was strict
social classes which made upward mobility nearly impossible, even for those born into lower level
nobility. Morale was also waning as pestilence and war persisted. The bubonic plague in the mid
1300s ravaged Europe and by some estimates, cut the population by half. France and England fought
in the Hundred Years War that quite literally meant that the region was in a state of war for a century,
between 1337 to 1453. Additionally, one of the last vestiges of the Christian Eastern Roman Empire,
Constantinople, fell to the Muslim Ottomans in 1453. This event not only hurt western esteem, but
also cut off the major trade route from Europe to Asia. All of this meant that Europe, both the courts
and the Church were seeking a way to increase prestige and wealth. Conquest was the response, by
allowing nations to find new land to possess, and new resources to exploit, and especially new
enemies to defeat. The period in the late 1400s is sometimes euphemistically called, The Age of
Exploration, connoting ideas of discovery, knowledge building, and awe. In Amerigo Vespucci s (1454
1512) first letter to Lorenzo Di Pierfrancesco De Medici, Vespucci spends more than half the letter
describing the land of the Americas, often commenting on flora and fauna as a marvel (Vespucci,

Yes, transparency is important in all companies. Transparency is easier for some than others.
Transparency operates in such a way that it is easy for other people to see what action is taken. It has

Gestalt Therapy
I. Summary and Integration of Major Concepts
Founded by Frederick (Fritz) and Laura Perls in the 1940 s, Gestalt therapy is a phenomenological
existential methodology which emphasizes experience and experimentation. Gestalt is a German term
that means a complete pattern or configuration (p. 112). Though there are many modalities and styles
in Gestalt therapy, it is holistic in its approach uniting mind, body, and feeling (p. 112). Some concepts
at the core of Gestalt therapy are the organism as a whole , emphasis on the here and now , and

we (the class) began our first session in Gestalt I initially felt less nervous about participating, in fact,
I volunteered to be the first client in my group during the first demonstration. Just like client centered
therapy, I had again been in a group that was assigned to Dr. Fiebert and I felt fortunate to have him

through the reading and class lecture that this was a therapy that called for the therapist to be creative
in getting the client to express emotions and feelings. I was anxious to see what creative techniques
Dr. Fiebert would employ. He began the session by asking me what I was aware of and I told him that
I was feeling some tension in my neck and shoulders. He then asked me to describe the tension, rate

The Death Of The Marine Corps
1. Just like Nicholas Herriman expressed, I often heard growing up that going to college and living on
your own is a rite of passage to entering adulthood. I did not join the Marine Corps right out of high
school. It was about two years after high school and living on my own when I decided to join the
military, however the rites of passage was often used in the military as a way to signify that
individuals are now a men for joining the Marines. What makes these two examples not qualify as
rites of passage is due to the fact that they were not sudden events. These events were more of a longer
transition.
2. One of the examples of territorial passage is when the King of Sparta went to war and would make
sacrifices along the way when they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He often visits tribe in very secluded parts of the world which always has a rites of passage ceremony
where an animal is sacrificed to represent him leaving or entering a new world.
The text mentions how movement from one room to another is considered a territorial passage.
(p.192) This makes me think about when my family went on a San Diego brewery tour where we were
driven to a string of breweries. Each time we entered a new brewery we would have a rite of passage
of trying one of their signatures crafts. If we really enjoyed the atmosphere we often would have
another beer signifying us leaving the location to enter the next.

which will strip them from their identity, in addition to spate the individual from their previous
position. Some of these rituals can include physical modifications or challenge. An example could
include getting a tattoo or having to go hunting.
ii. Second Stage: Liminal stage is when you are in the middle of statuses. The liminal stage is the
transitioning from the old status, however you are not in the new status yet. This is the stage when you
are learning or gaining the experience to reach the new status. An example of this stage is when
individuals have to go through a security checkpoint before you can pass through to the new

Exciting Modifications
Since you have moved much has changed. Exciting modifications have transpired during past year.
Events including youth group, orchestra, and my own personal interests have taken dramatic turns.
Changes for the better and worse have been established. Youth group has altered noticeably only
recently. Instead of Impact it is titled six7; similarly, they have changed their logo as well. Although I
will constantly support youth group as a whole, I am having trouble adjusting to this change.
Currently we are in a lesson series called I Am. It elaborates on topics about self confidence. Pete does
a wonderful job engaging the audience, which is an impressive feat. Our friends are doing fine. They
are involved with multiple activities. This and youth group keeps them occupied. All in all, youth

of the year. The difference between Honors and regular orchestra is that you need to try out for
Honors. There are 13 members; three first violins, three second violins, four violas, two cellos, and
one bass. I was fortunate to be placed as a second violin. My family is immensely proud. Our music
this year is exhilarating. We are playing contemporary songs and multiple classics. I have practiced
often only to find that the music is interestingly challenging. In addition, I have met numerous people
due to the incoming seventh graders. Having doubled the size of our orchestra to a truly incredible
size, the seventh graders are extraordinarily talented and enthusiastic. The orchestra program has, and

Great Lake Essays
GREAT LAKES PIPE amp; TUBE, INC. If we do decide to produce the 10 and 12 inch pipe
internally, it could solve our overstaffing problem, Mark Rubin, owner of Great Lakes Pipe amp;
Tube, Inc. (GLPT), remarked to Vinny Patricko, the plant manager. I m reluctant to lay anyone off or
even cut back hours. It s not good business and it s not the right thing to do if it can be at all avoided.
THE FIRM Mark Rubin had no intentions of starting his own firm in 1972. Since graduating from
college in 1964, he had worked for ML Pipe, a company based in Youngstown, Ohio. In January 1972,
the company decided to relocate to New Jersey, and Rubin went also. Rubin and his wife were quite
unhappy in Virginia, mainly because they felt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He thinks this could continue, given not only the state of the economy but also the increase in industry
competition. In its entire 29 year history, the firm has never been forced to even cut any worker s
hours, let alone lay off someone. And Rubin has decided that he won t start now. RUBIN S
ESTIMATES Rubin can t be certain, of course, what future sales of the 10 inch and 12 inch pipe will
be. He finds it helpful to think in terms of scenarios, and he has devised a set of estimates shown in
Exhibit 1. In addition, two salespeople complained that accounts were lost when some distributors
learned that GLPT does not produce 10 inch and 12 inch pipe internally. Apparently, these distributors
were concerned that GLPT would not be able to fill orders as quickly as they would like. As a result,
these salesmen argued, the entire account was lost and not just the orders for 10 inch and 12 inch pipe.
Rubin is unsure what to make of this lost order argument. If the sales personnel are correct, then
GLPT could nearly double the figures shown in Exhibit 1 by producing the 10 inch and 12 inch pipe
in house. While he can believe that some sales have been lost, Rubin finds it hard to believe that the
volume is anywhere near what the salespeople claim. For the time being, he decides to ignore the
possibility that orders have been lost. He wants time to investigate the claims of the sales personnel
who, he believes, have a

Soldiers Give Their Lives to Their Country
Soldiers are willing to give their lives for their country; it does not matter where they are from, their
government, or if they even like their leader. If they are asked to fight they will fight, yet they leave so
much behind friends, family, loved ones, the safety of their homes. The Soldier by Rupert Brooke is a
short poem about the patriotism of English soldiers during WWI. The author uses very specific
diction, syntax, personification, and imagery to leave an impact on the reader and show what it means
to give back to your country. Diction and syntax are the base of all good poems, to convey emotion
and create a mood and tone of all writings. First of all Brooke say things like ¨her¨ in ¨The Soldier¨
rather than saying England. It shows his love and affection to the country; it brings up the point why
does he have so much patriotism what invoked this emotion and feeling in him to protect her ? The
diction the author chooses to use makes it seem as if England is a lover, or he has a lover in England
he is protecting. Brooke also has very powerful sentences due to the syntax of his words. He boldly
states If I should die . . . That there s some corner of a foreign field that is forever England. Rather
than saying If i die i ve left my mark The writer is almost saying that because he is from England and
loves it so much then were he dies is now also a part of England now. It s a very powerful statement;
the reader can almost hear the pride in the narrator s

Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, is a non denominational, private university that traces its roots
to the founding of Carleton College in 1942. It is supported in part by charitable donations from the
Ottawa community in addition to government funding ( Our History, n.d.). Officially, during wartime,
The Ottawa Association for the Advancement of Learning, a group of local businessmen and senior
civil servants ( Carleton University Act, n.d.), helped bring two groups together: former university
professors and students/former students, all doing war work for the government in Ottawa (Fortin

According to a 2012 2013 report of 29 universities in the Canadian Association of Research Libraries
(CARL), MacOdrum Library s materials expenditures (including binding) was $5.5 million (Canadian
Association of Research Libraries, 2015, p. 6) and makes up approximately 1.6 percent of Carleton
University s total operating budget (CARL, 2015, p. 49). Total staffing expenditures, including
benefits, is around $9.9 million, and operating expenditures account for $1.2 million (CARL, 2015, p.
6). When combined, these figures total $16.6 million, and when materials expenditures are added, the
total makes up approximately 4.8 percent of the University s total budget (CARL, 2015, p. 49).
Compared to the national average, Carleton s budget is much smaller but the university s overall
percentage/ratio of library expenditures to the overall budget is higher. The average expenditures of
the 29 Canadian research libraries nationwide is $9.6 million for materials, $14.9 million for staffing,
and $2.6 million for operations, bringing the expenditures to a total of $27.4 million, which accounts
for an average of 4.5 percent of total university operating expenses (CARL, 2015, p. 49). For added
perspective, Carleton University has a student population of nearly 28,000 ( Facts and Figures, 2014)
and the library employs 135 total staff members (CARL, 2015, p. 7).

Sociological Theory
INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGICAL THEORY
Compare and contrast the views of three appropriate sociological perspectives to an area of social life
of your choosing. Why do we act the way we do? Does the mass media really affect the way a people
in a society behave? Sociologists focus on the environment and the social aspects of human behaviour
in order to answer questions like these when studying a particular society. A society is defined as a
large social group that shares the same geographical territory and is governed by the same political
authority and cultural expectations. Culture is defined as the shared values of a society such as
language, beliefs and ways of doing things (Burton, 2013, online). When looking at a society there are

Functionalism was introduced by Emile Durkheim (1858 1917), who is considered by many
intellectual thinkers to be the founder of modern sociology. The main principle of functionalism is that
each part of a society is interdependent and contributes towards making society work as a whole. Each
of these parts has to be working correctly but if something does go wrong then society has
mechanisms to deal with them, such as the police and the legal system. Functionalists also believe that
every social institution has many important functions to perform (Burton, 2013, online). Durkheim
introduced the theory anomie , or lack of social norms , that could cause instability or chaos. This
concept bought to light many instances that could affect a society in a negative way and especially the
behaviour of individuals towards one another (Emile Durkheim org, 2013, online). Another concept
put forward by Durkheim the sum of all of its parts is larger than the whole , defined at the
introduction of the structural/functionalist theory, is as relevant today as it was when first introduced
(Gamble, 2008, Online). Robert K. Merton (1910 2003) is one example of how Durkheim s theories
have lasted through the ages because his theory of anomie was taken directly from Durkheim s
perspective and still remains a major theory in the structure of society, both in criminal justice and
sociology (cited in

Essay about The Republican Party in Sinclair Lewis Babbitt
The Republican Party in Sinclair Lewis Babbitt
Sinclair Lewis Babbitt portrayed a man bent on following his political party; his actions seemingly
followed that religiously, and today s version of the Republican Party is proof that we are not too far
off from Lewis version, despite the expanse of time. George Babbitt, the main character in Lewis
novel, viewed the world in the eyes of a businessman. He saw immigrants as a waste to society,
business and the means to survive, and the ability to own the latest and greatest inventions as top
priorities in his life. One must, in the 1920s and well as in today s world, set themselves in a political
affiliation, generally one that describes the person and how he is. To ... Show more content on

Babbitt was just the icon of the Republican viewpoint.
Lewis probed into the Republican policies in order to write a character about them. Babbitt attempted
a change, a way of rebelling against his mechanical lifestyle, which one could view as someone s
break of the political system. It was too hard for him though, as his friends pressured him to join the
Good Citizens League and end this crazy rebellion. His downfall inevitably came over his wife s
operation, and he began to preach, the crimes of labor unions, the perils of immigration, and the
delights of golf, morality, and bank accounts (Lewis 368) more than ever. Lewis hinted through that
statement that the Good Citizens League was little more than a political club, or more specifically, an
offshoot of the Republican Party itself. Once again, Babbitt reflects the party s actions and policies in
what he speaks about, also saying a great deal about who was part of that party.
If the party was like that over seventy five years ago, and many would consider such thoughts corrupt,
the Republican Party surely must have changed over such a long time. The success of the Democrats
during the Great Depression and World War II led many to believe that the Republican Party was the
cause of the Great Depression. Its policies certainly would direct themselves toward the contrary yet
still the blame rested on them. The blame still rested

  • 2. Cyber Warfare And Cyber Crime Introduction The internet is everywhere. It has become the most widely used and accessed technology platform on the planet. It seems like it s almost gotten to the point where your blender is going to need an IP address unless you want an outdated smoothie. So of course in this day and age when computing and online interaction has become so pervasive that it would be of paramount importance to protect your networks, your devices and yourself. Not only is cyber space ubiquitous, but cyber attacks as well. Every day worldwide countless governments, companies, and private citizens are subject to cyber attacks. The security world works round the clock in an attempt to stay ahead of the attackers. One of the most important tools that helps the security tools stay ahead of would be attackers are honeypots. The aptly named security tool works as a decoy device tricking attackers to believe it is part of, or actually is the system they are attempting to compromise. Honeypots have become a necessary accessory in the war on cyber crime, not only for the purposes of detection and prevention, but for the purpose of studying and gaining a better understanding of the tools and techniques of cyber attacks. The next section of this paper will look into the history and background of honeypots. Then the current state of honeypots are discussed a long with relevant technologies that are making waves in the decoy technology world. Followed by a look into emerging state of the art ... • 3. Cultural Intelligence Of The United States And Italy Globalization has made it paramount for businesses and individuals that want to venture into a different country to have cultural intelligence of that country. Cultural intelligence is defined as capability to successfully adapt to new cultural environments and unfamiliar settings attributable to cultural context (Earley, Ang, and Tan 2006). Obtaining cultural knowledge allows business relationships to flourish, provides feasibility and sustainability for the business. It also shows cultural sensitivity, which is important when trying to win over locals of a specific area. The United States and Italy The United States and Italy are both advanced industrial countries, yet they differ in many areas including culture and how business is conducted. The United States has very little cultural influence on Italy; in fact it is the opposite. The element of diversity is deep within the United States that it has become a melting pot filled with an array of music, food, language, and many other customs that are not native. The relationship between the two countries has seen its adversity but they have created a strong bilateral relationship which aids in strengthening the economy of both countries. In the 2013 Italy United States Summit then Ambassador David Thorne stated Globalization is the disruptive force, in both a positive and negative sense, that is challenging both of our countries today and it is reshaping our traditional ways of thinking about the world. • 4. Novel Analysis Of Persepolis By Marjane Satrapi Truong Dao Period 4 Persepolis Novel Analysis Why don t some people like to read? That is because they don t like looking at a wall of texts on each page. Having a book with hundred pages of text and words can cause some readers to not like reading. That is why many readers prefer reading graphic books or novels. Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi is a graphic novel about a young girl growing up in Iran during the Iranian Revolution and the Iran Iraq War. Satrapi choose to tell her story in graphic novel form instead of normal prose based novel because she want to have the ability to control what image the audiences see on the page, and with the use simplistic style of drawing with black and white color, makes the readers feels more connected and understand more of the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a prose based novel, the author still is able to describe a scene to the audience in some details, but not everyone will visualize the same image because everyone brains work differently. Some will visualize the image differently than other, even if the image is only slightly different by a small detail. But in Persepolis, the author has more power over what appears on the page and what the readers will visualize because it s in a graphic novel form. For instance, when Marjane is talking to her image of God, which lends a kind of veracity to her statement: we can at least see that Marji believes she is truly talking to God. But God is drawn as a large and sizeable figure with long, flowing white hair and beard, which is very familiar to the figure of God in the Western world ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Grizzly Man Sparknotes Werner Herzog is arguably one of the most creative and innovative directors of our time. He has produced many pictures over the past few decades ranging from a documentary on Antarctica s beauty, to a short series on death row inmates. Herzog gained recognition as a German director in the late 70 s to early 80 s for films like Signs of Life and Fitzcarraldo, receiving much critical acclaim. Since then he has released many box office hits like Grizzly Man and Recscue dawn, based on the true story of Dieter Dengler. Grizzly Man, released in 2006, is about the tragic death of an eccentric wild life activist named Timothy Treadwell. This analysis will examine the validity to the indexical and interpretive material in Grizzly Man. Herzog uses original Timothy Treadwell footage as well as personal interviews to represent the reality he perceives, using the reflexive and performative modes in the documentary. Although it is impossible to show the entire picture of Timothys story, there is enough information provided to support Herzogs position revealed at the end. Without Treadwell alive to speak for himself, the film remains balanced through the many interviews of people in his life. The film starts out with Treadwells original footage of him talking to the camera. In the background are two huge bears, at a fairly distant but still frightening distance. He is alone in the Alaskan wilderness speaking to the camera about his love for bears, saying that he is there just to observe ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Consumer Trends Of The Students Of Coventry University... Introduction This empirical study looks to investigate the consumer trends of the students of Coventry University London Campus (CULC). The aim of this study is to see what the students at CULC prefer in terms of technology. Today a smartphone is able to do all the functions that a computer can normally do and with the passage of time, we see the grasp of smartphones and tablets getting firmer on our lives. According to Ahmed (1991, p.25) a clear and strong brand image of can drastically increase the confidence of the consumers and it can also convince the consumers to purchase the Smartphone/tablet. Nowadays a vital factor in the consumer buying decision is brand. Customers are more inclined towards a brand that they are familiar with as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It helps them to better understand the customer segment that is probably the largest chunk of their market share. They understand as to what brand is preferred by students, what their age and gender is and most importantly, how much are they willing to spend on technology. This helps them to make future decisions that can be vital for the company. Alongside this, it also gives them an understanding of competition and helps them analyze how far ahead or behind the market they are and accordingly steps can be taken in the future by the company. For this study, we used surveys using surveymonkey.com and a sample of 66 students was taken altogether. This sample helps us analyze the student preference for brands and the time and money they spend on technology. Sample The survey that was conducted on surverymonkey.com was circulated to the students of CULC on 1st November 2014. The responses that we got were from 66 students and the pie chart below shows the gender of the respondents: The chart above shows us that 68.18% of the respondents were males and the remaining 31.82% were females. Overall the responses that we got from the survey were satisfactory and they give us a reasonable representation of the student preferences for technology here at CULC. However, we must recognize that this sample is not an entire representation of the student body here at CULC. People who are familiar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. FIU Athletic Case Study For any athletic program during any sporting event, a brawl breaking out between the two opposing teams could be considered an undesirable situation. During a game between the Florida International University Golden Panthers and the Miami Hurricanes, that very thing happened and severe punishments were handed down by both programs to those involved. On October 14, 2016, a game between these two cross town rivals took place, and there was trash talk and penalties throughout the game. All of these penalties and trash talk led to a brawl that took place after a touchdown catch by running back James Bryant. Had this sentence not been a part of their mission statement prior to this event, it would have made for a perfect addition to their mission statement after the brawl occurred. Every student athlete involved in this brawl should have received a rougher punishment than what was handed down to them. It is unclear what Florida International s mission statement was prior to this incident, however, based upon their current mission statement those athletes would receive the harsh punishment they deserve. Based upon what the Florida International University Athletic Department s mission statement currently states, those athletes involved in this brawl should have not just received a dismissal from the team, but a dismissal from the school as well. • 8. What Is The Mood Of The Lady Of Shalott In the poem The Lady of Shalott, we find a woman, who is trapped inside of her own home by a curse. She is faced with the fact that she cannot experience reality due to this curse that for whatever reason has been placed on her. The poet uses imagery and symbolism to portray the feelings in the story as well as the hidden meanings within the poem. Imagery within the story poses the mood of the setting. The poem states, Four gray walls, and four gray towers, overlook a space of flowers (Part 1, Stanza 2). The poet describes the place in which the lady dwells as being very dreary, and lonesome. The Lady of Shalott longs for experience of true reality, in which she cannot experience due to the curse imposed on her. As the woman slaves over her works of art, she never directly sees the progression of her craft, but only the reflection of it. In light of the Victorian era, art acts in the same way. Art is a portrayal of reality from the view of the artist. Like the role of the mirror, art does not directly show reality but the reflection of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While the company was originally registered as the Anglo Persian Oil Company, Ltd; in response to the Persian government voting to change its name to Iran in 1935, the company was renamed the Anglo Iranian Oil Company, Ltd. Unfortunately, over the next couple Decades, sentiment in Iran began to turn against the company. The Iranian government began to believe that they were being taken advantage of, and that the British company was reaping profits at the expense of the Iranian people. In 1951, due in part to these beliefs, the country elected Mohammed Mossedegh as Prime Minister, who pushed to nationalize the holdings of the Anglo Iranian Oil Company. Later that year, Iran voted on a bill nationalizing the oil company so that oil profits would then benefit Iran. The result was an international boycott of Iran. Nationalization was not accepted by the British government and their strategy consisted of no mediation, no compromise, no acceptance of nationalization of any form. (CBS, 2010) The British withdrew their technicians, blocked the port, cut off exports to Iran, and froze Iran s hard currency accounts in Britain. • 11. Constantine Stanislavsky is the Father of Today s Style... Stanislavsky is the father of today s style of acting. Constantine Stanislavsky (1863 1938) was the innovator for method acting. He changed the process of acting in which actors immerse themselves into their characters as much as possible. He wanted acting to change to a realistic art. Stanislavsky wanted his actors to avoid habitual mannerisms on stage (Worthen, 33). He used a method that includes five techniques to help an actor submerge into their characters. The magic if, re education, observation, motivation and emotional memory are all techniques Stanislavsky used to help mold his actors (Bradford). The first technique requires the actor to use their imagination. The magic if requires the actor to ask themselves what my character would do in this situation. The next technique used is reeducation. Whether it s being onstage to a live audience or on film, actors need to find a way to display true human life movement. When figuring out body movement or body language actors must think of every action as part of their character. Stanislavsky encouraged his students to observe people whenever possible. He encouraged them to study their physical traits as well as their personality. Stanislavsky reminded his students that every person is unique and therefore each unique trait should be exhibited. The technique is a very valuable tool because actors often find inspiration by observing others. Actors often ask themselves what is my motivation? This process entails a lot of why ... • 12. Evolution Was Introduced By Charles Darwin The idea of evolution was introduced by Charles Darwin, and explains how animals change over time. The theory states that every organism on the Earth originated from a common ancestor and then, through the process of natural selection, how those animals branched off to become different organisms. Scholars use this theory to explain how animals that live on Earth change over time. However, scientists find it difficult to use this theory to explain some events that occurred in the geologic time period, such as the Cambrian Explosion. The Cambrian explosion was a macro evolutionary event that happened during the late Ediacaran and early Cambrian period. It introduced a number of phyla on the Earth, and significantly affected the animal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When a mass extinction takes place, the dominant species of that time get removed, enabling other organisms to use the resources they once did. This means that the extinction of the Ediacaran animals could have left a pathway for the newly made Cambrian species. Unfortunately, there are problems that arise when examining this theory. The extinction of the Ediacaran period does not explain the polyphyletic nature or the lengthy duration of the Cambrian Explosion (Xingliang Zhang, 2014). Another theory scholars believe could have led to the rapid appearance of polyphyletic organisms in the Cambrian could have occurred from the mineral and salinity content of the water. The salt concentration that is present in the water controls and limits the amount of biologic activity, since the saltier an area is, the fewer animals can live there. Less animals are able to survive in places that have high salt concentration due to the process of osmosis, which dehydrates the animals making them unable to survive in those environments. From looking at ocean salinity modeling, which was developed by observing maximum and minima values of present day evaporates, scholars have concluded that there was a significant salinity decline from the Neoproterozoic to the Cambrian. The decline in salinity seen in this time period, may have had an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Road Is All Willa Cather once said, The end is nothing, the road is all. I think this quote means that the journey is all that matters, not the destination. I strongly agree with this opinion. It brings people closer together, creates wonderful memories, and also creates a strong bond between you and other people. Though the destination is what everyone really wants, the journey and the company are just as important as well. Once you get to the end, what happens next? It is just simply the end. People could cherish the moments that the road in the destination gives you. To me this quote means that the road is all because it brings people closer together. When I lived in California, my family and I went on a road trip to Oklahoma, Georgia, North Carolina, and Minnesota to visit family members. The travel was actually really fun. The quote relates to this situation because the journey to all four states were what brought us together and created fun. This relationship was also strained by the fact that she was separated from her family by a border controlled by the Israelis. Ghada s options for a successful divorce were limited in the sense that if she requested the separation, she would have to give up the second half of her dowry, which would have a negative financial consequence for herself and her family. Along with that, her reputation would be tarnished in the village, which would make it very difficult for Ghada to make it on her own. In the case of aluminium, it is possible to get significant plastic strain without recrystallization in this region, and there is generally a distinct boundary between the recrystallized zone and the deformed zones of the TMAZ. In the earlier classification, these two sub zones were treated as distinct microstructural regions. However, subsequent work on other materials has shown that aluminium behaves in a different manner to most other materials, in that it can be extensively deformed at high temperature without recrystallization. In other materials, the distinct recrystallized region (the nugget) is absent, and the whole of the TMAZ appears to be recrystallized. This is certainly true of materials which have no thermally induced phase transformation which will in itself induce recrystallization without strain, for example pure titanium, b titanium alloys, austenitic stainless steels and copper. In materials such as ferritic steels and a b titanium alloys (e.g.Ti 6Al 4V), understanding the microstructure is made more difficult by the thermally induced phase transformation, and this can also make the HAZ/TMAZ boundary difficult to identify ... Or are humans something else, a soul perhaps? This has been debated for centuries by great philosophers, and one of them is John Locke. His idea of identity of a human is that humans are conscious beings thus their identity involve consciousness. However, Thomas Reid believes that Locke is wrong and identity of humans are transitive. But then this bring few questions: Can there be a the same thinking substance in different people or different thinking substance in the same person and how do we punish people? To answer the first question he believes that the issue lies whether a immaterial being with consciousness could have its consciousness of its past actions be completely removed then begin a life with new consciousness. Nonetheless if it was possible then Locke argues that there is no reason to say that the person who s soul and conscious lived before the removal is the same person whose new consciousness took over. To answer the second part, Locke says that the answer depends on whether the conscious of the past actions can be transferred to another person who did not experience it. Locke believes this phenomenon is possible and if it was, would this person be the same person he was before? Yes. Using Locke s theory where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After that, during the banquet, the host will toast to everyone, it is very impolite to refuse to drink. According to Eugene Cooper (2007), the most important rule of Chinese table manners is the seating arrangements. If a banquet is a simple dinner which just have one or two tables in a room, then the highest ranked person should sit in the place which facing the entrance, as it has the best view of the room(Rina B 2011). However, if it is a big banquet, the most respectful table is in the middle as it is the central and has the best view of the banquet. Redefining Heroism Throughout The Language Of The Brag Samuel Ballantyne Dr. Van Aken English 152 Final Essay 5/3/2017 Redefining Heroism in the Language of the Brag Sharon Olds author of the Language of the Brag, suggests through her experience in the poem that our society and culture altogether is male dominated towards achievement and focused more for men s success and heroism. Men are typically known for their strength and courage, especially heroic acts in society. When things are expected to get done, it s naturally expected for the guy to do it. There is also poetic action depicted in the poem, in which the writer establishes her longing to perform an act of heroism or extraordinary achievement. I think my biggest surprise was her casual use of sexual language, using a vibrating cock as a metaphor, and later using the knife reference again saying she was stabbed in her inner sex. Sharon Olds speaks so fiercely about the woman s body, that you feel she s almost competing against the constant objectivity against the woman s body. You can tell she speaks from experience, she s watched the boys play and all she wants is to show them that she has suffered as a woman and is better for it. She s stronger, prouder, and for that reason has a right to brag and redefine heroism. The middle of the poem is crucial because Sharon Olds is able to link heroism to the act of birth. It is also where the speaker changes her statement from I have wanted to I have. Sharon Olds does this by using graphic images to emphasize her point in the act of birth. She states, my inner sex/ stabbed again and again with terrible pain like a knife./ I have lain down./ I have lain down and sweated and shaken/ and passed blood and feces and water and/ slowly alone in the center of a circle I have/ passed the new person out (lines 19 25). We looked at her in surprise, for Calpurnia rarely commented on the ways of white people. Scout and Jem looked at Calpurnia in surprise after she spoke about Mr. Radley, saying that she rarely commented on the ways of white people. The gender wage gap is defined as the average income of a male compared to the average income of a female. There have been a few laws that were put into effect due to women s efforts to create fairness in the workplace. The first law, called the Equal Pay Act of 1963 signed into law by President John F. Kennedy, requires men and women in the same workplace be given equal pay for equal work (U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission). The Paycheck Fairness Act is a recent extension of the Equal Pay Act, it gives workers added protection to take action in the wage discrimination (National Women s Law Center). When comparing full time and year round workers, 23.5% is the gap between the annual male earnings compared to women and that has not changed much since 2001 (Burns, 1). In the profession I have chosen, there is quite a difference in dominant gender between dental hygienists and dentists. Dental hygiene is a very female dominated field of work, although few male dental hygienists exist. Due to the gender roles our society has molded, hygiene is usually compared to nursing because it revolves around care giving service and many believe that is not a task men are usually willing to do. Contrary to belief, men can be just as, if not more, nurturing than women. On the other hand, women are perfectly capable of becoming dentists as well. The culture we were raised in ... • 26. The Ethics Of Drilling Mud 5. The functions of drilling mud, and how their properties are modified to suit downhole conditions Discussion of the problems the mud engineer has in selecting a mud for a HPHT well. Introduction The drilling mud plays a critical role in any successful drilling operation. It must be carefully optimised and managed to ensure the safety of the drilling operation and to minimise hole problems. A failure in the mud design can lead to significant losses in terms of time and cost as a result of problems such as stuckpipe, kicks and blowouts. Depending on the continuous phase, drilling mud can be classified into water based and oil based. Drilling mud has the following functions: i. The drilling mud is used in controlling the hydrostatic pressure by keeping it higher that the formation pressure. ii. The mud is used to extract cuttings from the hole. The effectiveness of this function is contingent on the yield point (YP) property of the mud. iii. A lot of heat is generated during drilling due to friction and the mud works to cool and also lubricate the drill bit and drillpipe iv. To keep the integrity of the hold by preventing caving. The drilling mud forms a mud cake on the walls of the formation which stabilises it. v. Helps to release the drilled cuttings at the surface vi. Help minimise formation damage by maintaining a low fluid loss into the formation vii. Assisting in formation evaluation viii. Henry Thoreau on Civil Disobedience The Statue of Liberty is an American symbol of justice and freedom from oppression, yet in Henry Thoreau s opinion, the U.S. government is completely antithetical. In Thoreau s essay on civil disobedience, he introduces and accepts the motto, That government is best which governs not at all. In his eyes, the government does more harm than good for its people. Underneath his seemingly main idea, Thoreau implies an overall antithesis where he defines who, in his eyes, is allowed to be disobedient. In order to advance this main idea and reinforce this mottos throughout the essay, Thoreau uses metaphors and juxtaposition to strengthen this subtle antithesis found throughout the essay. In his essay, Thoreau uses the extended metaphor of the government as machine to emphasize how government dehumanizes its citizens. He relates the government to a machine in that it is made up of many parts which all must work together for the machine to be successful. If something is broken, one can fix the machine in order to better suit his/her needs. Thoreau introduces this metaphor when he states, men serve the state not as men mainly, but as machines, with their bodies. He begins with the first, military men who serve with their bodies. These men, in most cases, have no free exercise of moral sense serving under the state. Without the use of their moral sense or conscience, Thoreau comes to the conclusion that they can be replaced by objects such as wood and stones and therefore, have ... • 30. How Asatru Is A Religion That Has Close Ties With Norse... Asatru is a religion that has close ties with Norse mythology. The name of the religion, Asatru, is a twofold word that gets it s meaning from Old Norse. The first half of the word, Asa, means Gods and Goddesses and the second half Tru, means to have faith or belief in. Altogether Asatru means to have faith in the gods. Asatru can be considered part of the Neo pagan family of religion since it has to do with Norse Heathenism. The beginning of Asatru was not the start of the religion itself yet a revival of an older religion. Before Asatru there was the Nordic religion. This religion was practiced before Christianity came around. The Nordic religion is thousands of years old and its beginnings are lost in prehistory. Yet, it is associated with the age of Vikings. Ancient Asatru and Modern Asatru is a folk or tribal religion. In the 20th century an Icelandic sheep farmer named Sveinbjörn Beinteinsson created an Asatru organization. The proper term for it is, Íslenska Ásatrúarfélagið which translates to Icelandic fellowship of Aesir faith. Beinteinsson even petitioned for Asatru to be a recognized religion in the early 1970s. After about a year of petitioning, Asatru became a known religion in Iceland. Many students begin to show less motivation making it harder to stay focus and attend their required classes. This is the case of student athlete Cardale Jones, a quarterback for the University of Ohio. After taking his sociology final exam, he commented that coming to class was pointless when his only responsibility was to play football for the university (Tracy 1). Student athletes start to show poor academic achievement when they consume a lot of time in their sports and often forget about their role of being a student. For instance, when students are not able to complete their school assignments during the day they decide to study late and do not sleep the necessary hours they need in order for their bodies to function and their brains to focus. In this case, the poor achievement in students is notable because they do not perform well in school and do not have a good nutrition. They often do not have time to eat the required three meals a day that their bodies need. The poor academic achievement is often noticeable when many coaches begin to tell their athletes that they are not allowed to take classes that interfere with practice. The envisioned changes, even if unrealized, are as much a part of a distinctive historical pattern, as is the past which made the present itself inevitable. And this pervasive sense of inevitability inspires recurrent images and themes of movement. Altogether, these early collections reflect a tightly knit dialectic, with its closely integrated poetic forms, which are to define a good part of Carter s poetry for much of the next fifteen years. The underlying dialectic is compact, limpid, and consistent. The dialectic statement is tightly controlled through a disciplined, highly economic use of language and sense of form; and as a result, the poetic form itself becomes the imaginative microcosm of that moral wholeness and social unity which the poetry envisions. Given this tightly integrated schema, it becomes clear that poems of resistance are not simply poems about political resistance: they are acts of resistance. This implies an aesthetic that has been rather rare in the generally conservative context of Anglophone Caribbean literature. It was not to be aired in any significant sense, in any Caribbean language area, until the successful Cuban revolution began to define its own revolutionary aesthetics during the 1960s: the only valid revolutionary art is that which is committed to, and a part of, the revolution; writing about the revolution is not enough, the writer must be an active participant in the revolution. • 34. Conquest And The Start Of Colonialism Conquest In the era preceding the age of conquest and the start of colonialism around the late 1400s was a dark time in Europe both socially and economically. Under the feudalist system, there was strict social classes which made upward mobility nearly impossible, even for those born into lower level nobility. Morale was also waning as pestilence and war persisted. The bubonic plague in the mid 1300s ravaged Europe and by some estimates, cut the population by half. France and England fought in the Hundred Years War that quite literally meant that the region was in a state of war for a century, between 1337 to 1453. Additionally, one of the last vestiges of the Christian Eastern Roman Empire, Constantinople, fell to the Muslim Ottomans in 1453. This event not only hurt western esteem, but also cut off the major trade route from Europe to Asia. All of this meant that Europe, both the courts and the Church were seeking a way to increase prestige and wealth. Conquest was the response, by allowing nations to find new land to possess, and new resources to exploit, and especially new enemies to defeat. The period in the late 1400s is sometimes euphemistically called, The Age of Exploration, connoting ideas of discovery, knowledge building, and awe. Breakthroughs and Steps in Learning Practicing Client Centered therapy helped me get over most of my fear and apprehension about performing as therapist and client in front of my classmates. So, as we (the class) began our first session in Gestalt I initially felt less nervous about participating, in fact, I volunteered to be the first client in my group during the first demonstration. Just like client centered therapy, I had again been in a group that was assigned to Dr. Fiebert and I felt fortunate to have him demonstrate because I knew that I would learn a great deal given his years of experience. I had learned through the reading and class lecture that this was a therapy that called for the therapist to be creative in getting the client to express emotions and feelings. I was anxious to see what creative techniques Dr. Fiebert would employ. He began the session by asking me what I was aware of and I told him that I was feeling some tension in my neck and shoulders. He then asked me to describe the tension, rate the level of tension on a scale of 1 10, increase the tension and relate it to and experience or incident in my life. It was about two years after high school and living on my own when I decided to join the military, however the rites of passage was often used in the military as a way to signify that individuals are now a men for joining the Marines. What makes these two examples not qualify as rites of passage is due to the fact that they were not sudden events. These events were more of a longer transition. 2. He finds it helpful to think in terms of scenarios, and he has devised a set of estimates shown in Exhibit 1. Soldiers Give Their Lives to Their Country Soldiers are willing to give their lives for their country; it does not matter where they are from, their government, or if they even like their leader. If they are asked to fight they will fight, yet they leave so much behind friends, family, loved ones, the safety of their homes. The Soldier by Rupert Brooke is a short poem about the patriotism of English soldiers during WWI. The author uses very specific diction, syntax, personification, and imagery to leave an impact on the reader and show what it means to give back to your country. Diction and syntax are the base of all good poems, to convey emotion and create a mood and tone of all writings. First of all Brooke say things like ¨her¨ in ¨The Soldier¨ rather than saying England. It shows his love and affection to the country; it brings up the point why does he have so much patriotism what invoked this emotion and feeling in him to protect her ? The diction the author chooses to use makes it seem as if England is a lover, or he has a lover in England he is protecting. Brooke also has very powerful sentences due to the syntax of his words. He boldly states If I should die . . . That there s some corner of a foreign field that is forever England. Rather than saying If i die i ve left my mark The writer is almost saying that because he is from England and loves it so much then were he dies is now also a part of England now. Why do we act the way we do? Does the mass media really affect the way a people in a society behave? Sociologists focus on the environment and the social aspects of human behaviour in order to answer questions like these when studying a particular society. A society is defined as a large social group that shares the same geographical territory and is governed by the same political authority and cultural expectations. Culture is defined as the shared values of a society such as language, beliefs and ways of doing things (Burton, 2013, online). When looking at a society there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Functionalism was introduced by Emile Durkheim (1858 1917), who is considered by many intellectual thinkers to be the founder of modern sociology. The main principle of functionalism is that each part of a society is interdependent and contributes towards making society work as a whole. Each of these parts has to be working correctly but if something does go wrong then society has mechanisms to deal with them, such as the police and the legal system. Functionalists also believe that every social institution has many important functions to perform (Burton, 2013, online). Durkheim introduced the theory anomie , or lack of social norms , that could cause instability or chaos. This concept bought to light many instances that could affect a society in a negative way and especially the behaviour of individuals towards one another (Emile Durkheim org, 2013, online). Another concept put forward by Durkheim the sum of all of its parts is larger than the whole , defined at the introduction of the structural/functionalist theory, is as relevant today as it was when first introduced (Gamble, 2008, Online). Robert K. Merton (1910 2003) is one example of how Durkheim s theories have lasted through the ages because his theory of anomie was taken directly from Durkheim s perspective and still remains a major theory in the structure of society, both in criminal justice and sociology (cited in ... Essay about The Republican Party in Sinclair Lewis Babbitt The Republican Party in Sinclair Lewis Babbitt Sinclair Lewis Babbitt portrayed a man bent on following his political party; his actions seemingly followed that religiously, and today s version of the Republican Party is proof that we are not too far off from Lewis version, despite the expanse of time. George Babbitt, the main character in Lewis novel, viewed the world in the eyes of a businessman. He saw immigrants as a waste to society, business and the means to survive, and the ability to own the latest and greatest inventions as top priorities in his life. One must, in the 1920s and well as in today s world, set themselves in a political affiliation, generally one that describes the person and how he is. To ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Babbitt was just the icon of the Republican viewpoint. Lewis probed into the Republican policies in order to write a character about them. Babbitt attempted a change, a way of rebelling against his mechanical lifestyle, which one could view as someone s break of the political system. It was too hard for him though, as his friends pressured him to join the Good Citizens League and end this crazy rebellion. His downfall inevitably came over his wife s operation, and he began to preach, the crimes of labor unions, the perils of immigration, and the delights of golf, morality, and bank accounts (Lewis 368) more than ever. Lewis hinted through that statement that the Good Citizens League was little more than a political club, or more specifically, an offshoot of the Republican Party itself. Once again, Babbitt reflects the party s actions and policies in what he speaks about, also saying a great deal about who was part of that party. If the party was like that over seventy five years ago, and many would consider such thoughts corrupt, the Republican Party surely must have changed over such a long time. The success of the Democrats during the Great Depression and World War II led many to believe that the Republican Party was the cause of the Great Depression. Its policies certainly would direct themselves toward the contrary yet still the blame rested on them. The blame still rested ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
