War I Was No Standard Blueprint For A War Poet
A war poet is a poet in time of and on the subject of war. A substantial number of important poets were
soldiers, writing about their experiences of war. A number of them died on the battlefield, others like
Siegfried Sassoon and Randall Jarrell survived but were scarred by their experiences, and some were
just witnesses to the war like Thomas Hardy, and all of this was reflected in their poetry. Many poems
were British and were published in newspapers and then collected into anthologies. Several of these
early anthologies were published during the war and were very popular, though the tone of the poetry
changed as the war progressed. (Santanu) There was no standard blueprint for a war poet; the War
Poets were from a variety of backgrounds. The whole variety of backgrounds gives a clear idea that
the impact of war in the trenches hit everyone who served there. Forbidden from writing home with
any degree of accuracy or truth about the life they led, some put their thoughts into a diary that could
be kept in secret. Others put their thoughts into poems. Most of these writers came from middle class
backgrounds; many had been to public schools and served as officers at the front. (Truman) Poets that
actually went to the trenches and saw action, the reality appalled them, they were all either wounded
or shell shocked, or both. They wrote powerfully and poignantly about the effects of war on the bodies
and minds of men, the horror and the waste. These poems have largely

Introduction: In light of the drawbacks of traditional methods and ever increasing reward of
innovative technology this intends to wrap up that the use of internet staffing has now become
essential in the aggressive environment of organizational behavior for the market. Social media
recruitment assists an employer to yield more candidates for vacant positions within an organization.
The benefit of implementing the internet as a staffing mechanism has an astonishing influence on the

The benefit of utilizing social media recruitment is the leverage that this mechanism has over
traditional methods of recruitment. The problem with utilizing social media recruitment is that the
gathering of candidates from Face books other sites may offer a long list of potential candidates which
might prove time consuming. The benefit is the younger demographic will offer a fresh and innovative
perspective for a company however; the potential problem is the accusation of ageism might deter
experienced candidates as they lack the social knowledge of these sites. While, social media
recruitment has the ability to lack the quality of potential candidates due to referrals made through
LinkedIn as the candidates friends/business associates the overall benefit is that a good employee
might yield through the contact. The challenge of traditional methods of recruitment is the vetting and
screening process is time consuming. The problem with the traditional method of recruitment includes
the time spent on each applicant s personal qualities versus allowing the internet to sort it out. Overall
due to the time, cost, retention, and quality the traditional staffing methods have lessened favor for
granting and utilizing web based solutions to find the primary source for higher quality candidates.
Social media allows both companies and candidates a way to conduct research, market themselves,

Compare And Contrast Rednecks And City-Folk
In America, we are blessed to be able to mostly live wherever we want, whether that be on the shore,
in the middle of the woods, or in the densely populated cities. Each of these places has their own faults
and perks, but how different or similar are they? How much worse could it be to live in the city than
the country, or vise versa? The two stereotypical types of people, Rednecks and City folk, tend to stay
loyal to their place of choice. What makes the two places so different, or similar? Looking at the
logical facts, we can see the obvious differences and similarities between the two, but it all comes
down to personal preference. The country is a beautiful place, full of a variety of weird people. Most
people that live in the country are usually associated with hunting, fishing, beer, and large, loud trucks.
There are normal people that live in the country, but most of the time they are affected by country air.
If you are not a fan of having lots of neighbors, then the country is the right place for you. Most of the
time, in the country, houses are spread much further apart than if you were in a city. ... Show more

There is a significantly smaller number of people and cars out in the country, so the pollution isn t
near as bad as it would be in a city. Just because there are less cars and people, doesn t mean that the
air in the country is perfectly clean. Those rednecks with their big trucks usually end up not worrying
out exhaust problems, or sometimes run a straight pipe, causing even more air pollution than probably
2 or 3 cars. In the country, if you were to take a walk in the woods, you would probably run into
someone riding a quad. So just because there are less cars, doesn t mean there aren t other ways for the
air to be polluted. Although it isn t free from air pollution, the myriad of trees allow for cleaner air to

The Increasingly Race Nature of Advertisements During the...
Given the popularity and the exuberant price for a 30 second Super Bowl ad is priced over $4,000,000
(Stauffer, 2013), more and more companies are using racy commercials laced with sexual innuendoes.
The use of super model type females trying to sell products to the average football fan aged 18 49
(Gilmartin, 2013), using a variety of themes from Sexual assault (Covert, 2013), to the cliché that
women are crazy (Covert, 2013), to a sexual fantasy with a make out session with a Victoria s secret
model and a nerd (Taibi, 2013), to waitresses turning into strippers (Covert, 2013), the list goes on and
on; however no matter how the commercial tries to differentiate itself from the other commercials In
the same time slot, one thing Is a common denominator between all of them and that is sex. The first
question to ask yourself is, why are the Super Bowl ads such a big deal and how long has this
phenomena been in place? Since when have people tuned their T.V s in to watch this game, and how
long have people been hosting Super Bowl watch parties for? What makes this one game such an
extravaganza? A game that makes people who normally do not even care to watch the game, nor have
any rooting interest in the game, but make sure not to miss a single minute of the game. According to
Bill Dorman, (a Millersville University professor in the communications and theater department)
believes that this mass hysteria probably started because of (New York Jets quarterback) Joe Namath.

R1972 And R2012 Report
Assessment is an essential part of the teaching and learning process. Assessment is most effective
when there is alignment between the outcomes, the design of assessment tasks, the criteria, marking
procedures and feedback provided; this referred to as constructive alignment (Potter Kustra, 2012).
The purpose of an assessment, and the modes and strategies used will depend on a number of factors.
Diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment are three modes of assessment that may be used.
While each of these modes of assessment has a particular purpose, the underlying purpose of all
assessments is to promote student learning (Brady Kennedy, 2012).
Diagnostic assessments are usually conducted at the beginning of a unit of work to find out students
current levels of understandings and reveal any misconceptions. Summative assessments are given at
the end of a unit of work these assessments are used to determine the degree to which students have
achieved the learning outcomes, the effectiveness of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the R1972 report has been written for the same intended audience and for the same purpose as
the R2012 report, the R1972 report contains less information across all areas than the R2012 report,
highlighting the fact that while the R2012 report had some deficiencies it still contained sufficient
relevant and important content.
The R1972 report used a norm referenced assessment approach where the student s grades are
presented in comparison to the class average grades (Brady Kennedy, 2012) rather than being
measured against a criterion or standard like the R2012 report. The R1972 report provides no
information on how the grades out of 10 for the student or class average were determined. Beyond the
simple subject headings, the R1972 report contains no information on the curriculum content covered
during the year, which is an important principle of reporting (Brady Kennedy,

Farmers In The 1980 s Essay

Farm Crisis of the 1980s Farmers in the 1980 s were faced with many challenges due to the farm
crisis. Farmers in the Midwest were the most widely affected in the beginning but quickly rippled to
other areas. Farmers were in desperate need of a way out of the devastation. Many people who relied
on their farm and on agriculture struggled in the 1980 s. WWII was the fire that lit the Farm Crisis of
the 1980 s. WWII brought forth many new advances in all aspects of agriculture. New farm
equipment, pesticides, seeds, and fertilizers made it easier for the everyday life of a farmer. Greater
efficiency and productivity were the result of the new inventions. In the 1950 s and 1960 s there was a

When doing that, interest rates rose higher than anyone has seen since the Civil War. Not only did
interest rate rise, the lending rate rose also. It rose from 6.8 percent all the way to 21.5 percent in five
years. Everyone in every part of the world was effected one way or another by this disaster, but
farmers and rural bankers were especially hurt. Farmers had to borrow money for everything in the
1980 s. They had to borrow it for land, seed, equipment, housing and everyday life. The US farm debt
quickly doubled when everyone started borrowing money for everything. Young farmers, who were
just getting started, normally had to borrow huge lump sums of money at a time to get started. Farmers
who had to borrow money and were in debt were usually the first to go out of business. In 1935, the
number of farms in the United States reached an all time high of 6.8 million. By the mid 1980s, only
2.2 million farms remained. (Iowa Public Television) The number of farms drastically went down and
most of the farmers were out of luck. To survive and provide for their families, many farmers had to
move closer to town and get jobs in factories or other things. With so many farms shut down and no
need for farm equipment or supplies, therefore many factories and store went out as well. Thus there
was nowhere for farmers to

The Importance Of Censorship In Libraries
Censorship is a huge thing within today s society, Censorship in libraries is when a school board, a
parent, or just anyone challenges a book that is explicit with sexual language, homosexuality, and or
religion. The meaning of censorship is to ban a book, it s not necessarily up to the library, but more so
to the community and the school board. Anyone can challenge a book to be censored, even if it s not
explicit, if you personally take offense to a book you can challenge it to be a censored or banned book,
but with that you have to have a valid reason on why you want it banned or censored. There are
thousands of books that are considered to be explicit and are banned out of libraries in some schools
even if they aren t that bad of books, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Including Ten Sleep, Wyoming. On the other hand there s a lot of schools who have just this specific
book banned or censored because it is sexually explicit, homosexuality explicit, and religiously
explicit.
For my second reasoning, books can be challenged, censored, or banned in libraries if the parents,
staff, or school board if they do not necessarily agree with their children to read books that are
censored in libraries because they could be religious and it could be going against their beliefs and that
would affect and cause a lot of chaos for the school district or public library; my prospective and voice
on this is that there should be books banned, censored, or challenge because theirs always going to be
someone who will take offense to something, wither it is a book, a movie, a magazine, or even a song.
Mark Twain a famous poet once quoted, The man who does not read has no advantage over the man
who cannot read and I personally think this is important because I believe that the more experience
that you may have in reading or just anything else, the more experience you will have means the more
knowledge you have, this is significant because if you can read or hear and you choose not to listen to
music or read, you are only hurting yourself because you will have no advantages over anyone. . If

The Ballad Of Mulan And Mui Slays The Serpent
In the two stories The Ballad of Mulan and Chi Li Slays the Serpent two young girls living in Ancient
China defy all odds and go against the gender barriers. Mulan and Chi Li are two different women
living in different parts of China, however, they both have similar feelings about the way they should
handle difficult tasks. On the contrary, Mulan is a secretive young girl, while Chi Li is honest. Both
women reveal their true colors when they step out of their traditional role in society and take on the
role of a man.
Chi Li and Mulan both value bravery and their families well being. Chi Li and Mulan both take risks
and forget about fear, as they take on challenges that could end with their death. When Chi Li says,
Poor girls! ... The monster conquered you because you were too timid to put up a fight! How pitiful! it
shows her value because she s making fun of the girls who weren t brave enough to fight the serpent.
Chi Li frowns upon this as she values bravery and these girls were too proper to retaliate. Although
nobody has ever been able to slay the serpent, Chi Li defies all odds and does so because of her
courage. As for Mulan, even the small action of when she buys a spirited horse, ... she buys a saddle ...
she buys a bridle .... she buys a long whip. shows bravery because she had to sneak around her town
without anyone seeing her. If anybody saw her, they would realize what she was doing and her parents
would have found on immediately. Her bravery overcame the feelings of fear she may have felt, and
she stayed strong and fought for twelve years. Both women were brave as an attempt to care for their
parents and their families. Even though fighting a serpent and fighting in a battle may have been risky,
the two women fought their hardest for the benefit of their families. The two women were courageous
because they faced danger and overcame it, even though this might have been difficult. Both women
value bravery and family matters because of their fearless mind sets.
Chi Li values honesty while Mulan values secrecy. When Chi Li says to her parents, Father and
Mother, I want you to know that I have decided to place myself into the hands of the county
authorities and to volunteer to

Dr. Phil loved the earth s layers. He spent every minute of his life reading theories and watching
videos about them and he always wanted to see the layers. One day, he finally made his drill that could
drill down into the earth and see all the layers as well as learn about them. Dr. Phil put on his special
pressure and cooling suit and set out. As he drilled down he could feel the pressure getting stronger
and stronger.
He got deeper and deeper and came down right in front of Crusty s face. Crusty was in the middle of

Mandate Of Heaven Analysis
Throughout pre unification China, the Mandate of Heaven was used as a justification in the
acquisition and eradication of dynasties. The Mandate of Heaven, the idea that a ruler reigned only
with the blessing of the heavens, was seen as a way to legitimize a dynasty and its ruler. Although it
may seem as if a heavenly mandate gives a ruler absolute power, this is actually not the case. Instead,
Mencius, a philosopher who emphasizes benevolent governance, asserts that a ruler can both acquire
and lose the heavenly mandate based on his behavior and the treatment of his subjects. If a ruler is not
equitable, in other words, the Mandate of Heaven can be withdrawn and bestowed upon a more
qualified ruler. Thus, although the mandate sounds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essentially, the heavens bestow the mandate upon the ruler, but the people are a factor in whether the
mandate stays with the ruler or not. Hence, Mencius emphasizes the importance of just rule in order to
please the people and keep the Mandate of Heaven.
Mencius once again underscores the people s role in the heavenly mandate and declares their right to
either abide by or revolt against a ruler. Mencius claims that rulers only possessed the Heavenly
Mandate to rule so long as they retained the hearts of the people . . . For Mencius, the human heart
was endowed with the ability to judge between right and wrong and constituted a bridge linking man
with Heaven (Glanville 331). Mencius s belief in the ability of the heart to determine right or wrong
gives the common people authority and power to identify whether a ruler is worthy of the mandate and
the favor of the heavens. Consequently, it is imperative that the ruler retains the people s support as
negative sentiments can lead to dissent and organized revolt amongst the people. This emphasis on the
intimate and powerful link between the people and the heavens is translated in Mencius s concept of
the ultimate supremacy of the people. Mencius declares that The people are of supreme importance;
the altars to the gods of earth and grain come next; last comes the ruler (Glanville 332). Mencius
prioritizes the

country s entrance into the war was caused by the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. After the
attack the government had suspicion that the Japanese Americans were spies. So, congress passed the
Executive order 9066, stating all Japanese Americans would be relocated to detainment camps. They
remained in these camps for two years. Japanese Americans faced many difficulties in the detainment

Ponjao stuffed rocks and old bones in his mouth; however, he appeared to be quite healthy though out

babies and stress the use of hand sanitizer before picking up a baby. Therefore, this drastic difference
seems to stand out. Furthermore, BayarJargai, baby from Mongolia, also spend time in close
proximity with goats and he appeared quite healthy. BayarJargai was also climbing an empty barrel
when a herd of cows came towards him in the film, but the child did not appear to be frightened at all.
BayarJargai ignored the animals surrounding him while he sat on the barrel. This appeared significant
because many children at his age would scream when they see an herb of farm animals coming his/her
way. BayarJargai most likely appeared unaffected because he had previously seen his family members
with the farming animals and he was mimicking his parents emotions. One unique cultural
information about BayarJargai parents was that they tied him to the bed as he played with toilet paper
to prevent him from causing trouble. This might be considered okay in Mongolian culture, however if
parents in American culture tied their child to the bed, they would get their child taken away. As a
result, there is huge cultural variation between the two

James Simmons Sonnet For The Class Of 58
Life as the Graduates of the Class of 58
James Simmons poem Sonnet for the Class of 58 displays the conditions and society modern men live
in. The poem develops its idea by giving examples of the graduates lives in adult world that is
completely different from what they expected. As the speaker talks about how the ideal changes into
only basic things in life, his words provoke the reader to think about their lives and compare them
with their lives. The poem suggests the collapse of the ideal that young people have as they grow older
and gain more experiences about reality of life.
The argument is developed through the speaker s attitude toward his friends with realization that life is
not what they expected it to be. In the first line ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the poem, life is not easy as the graduates and we thought it would be; there are
obstacles and finally we have to endure and live unhappy. The poem teaches us about cruelty of real
world that breaks our hopes and ideals; this cruelty is a consequence of society that people have to
compete with others. After graduation, the graduates dream big, expect to chaste their dreams and to
be successful. They also have moral principles in life and think that they will never break their own
rule, but modern life doesn t allow them to do that, and then they stuck in the unhappy modern world
as we can see in the poem. Only when they are drunk, life seem as it once seemed (8); this is a
condition of people who have to drink to be happy and forget their miserable life, and we can see
through alcohol sales that people really need to drink to gain their happiness. In addition, ideal
everybody has seems to be destroyed when they grow up, and even people who are very successful
and have power are disappointed with what they have become. This approach can be seen in the
couplet: even those who ve gained more power and sense/ feel sorry when they feel the difference (13
14). Here the poem suggests that the society crushes their dreams and it relates to the conditions of the
society; people have to fight with energy crisis and weak currency. Facing these problems to make a
living, people are stressful and quit their expectations, and it leads to the collapse of their ideal.
Finally the graduates only want what they think they can

THE PRAISE KEY (THE POWER OF PRAISE)
Praise is a special kind of spoken words. It includes thanking and praising God for who He is and
what He has done for you as well as singing sweet melodic songs to worship Him. God instituted

SLAP is a superior labrum tear in an anterior to posterior direction of the shoulder, affecting more than
4000 people in a year, usually men between the ages of 20 30 and 40 50. The purpose of this case
report is to show the relevance of the amount of physical therapy session after a SLAP surgery repair.
The patient was a 41 year old male kinesiology professor physically active in volleyball, weight
training, and cross fit. The patient was diagnosed to have a SLAP type II tear and micro fracture
visible on an MRI with arthrogram. Outcome measures employed were the QuickDASH for functional
disability symptoms and the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) to report the level of pain. Some of the
interventions used in this case were grade I/II manipulations, pendulum, AROM to associated areas,
cryotherapy, stretching and strengthening exercises, PNF exercises, and closed kinetic chain activities.
After 27 physical therapy visits post surgeries in a period of 6 months the patient reported no
perceived disability to work after 52 weeks. Although, some functional disability was experienced
when it came to general activities and sports between 4 to 13 percent based on the QuickDASH. Pain
levels reported by the VAS remained considerable low. The subject reported pain level between 0 4 on
a 10 scale; pain decreased to zero by week 10. By decreasing the number of therapy visits and

For my reading pleasure, I was able to read Help! I am Raising My Children Alone by
T. D. Jakes concerning single parenting (Jakes, 2011). This book was written as a practical guide with
the intentions to help single parents overcome the obstacles of single parenting and discover the
hidden treasure that lies beneath the struggle. T. D. Jakes is a bishop, therefore there is a copious
amount of faith and biblical scripture woven into his writing, however he does maintain practicality as
well. Jakes (2011) encourage single parents to not give up, despite their circumstance. He also equips
the single parents with thought provoking questions at the end of each chapter for reflecting, and
activities to do with their families that will be beneficial to the growth and stability of each family.
I would like to begin with a quote. Jakes (2011) states I raise my bow. Even if I am shot, I will raise
my bow. I will lift it above my past, my pain, and my fears (p. 200). These arrows; my children, are
my defense. I believe that this is a powerful statement to abide by to counteract the negative stigma
that often comes with single parenting. Many single parents+ usually see their mistakes and feel
guilty, struggle with past hurts, and may feel at a loss when it comes to raising their kids. However,
Jakes encourages single parents to aim their bow high so that their children may soar. Single parents
seeing their children soar to become great people in society gives purpose and meaning

Public Sphere And Soundbite Analysis
In chapter three (page 105) McKee highlighted that the public sphere contains too much spectacle .
From a modern perspective, it seems that the public sphere promotes a short attention span in
consumers. Ideas aren t explored in detail or at length, they re packaged as thirty second grabs .
McKee also talks about us human beings, suffering from a curse of soundbites (Slayden and Whillock
1999). The terms short attention span and soundbite are the two most popular terms in our discussions
about the public sphere. This evidently show us that the appearance is more important to us than
anything else and how much more we concentrate on how the media approach everything that is
surrounding us, rather than having our personal opinions.

Descriptive Essay On The Old House
I turned around, looking back at my old room. The paint on the wall is peeling off, the ceiling was
falling apart, and the floor was cracking open. This was the house I have been living for thirteen years,
and now I need to leave. Mom and dad bought this house from an old man, then thirteen years past,
this is 2004. yes, it is already 2004, how fast is it! I stood there, staring at the empty room with only a
little furniture. I can t feel home, where is my home? I don t know this weird feeling. Happy and sad at
the same time. However, if I left, is it going to be an enjoyable life, or it is going to be another way
that leads me to my doom? I kept repeating in my mind. Isn t this what I was always hoping? To leave
this old and dirty house? I told myself to not panic. I turned and look at the broken window, the
reflection of myself. Dark black hair, brown eyes, and a friendly smile. Everyone like me in this
village, if I move to a new place, they will like me too. Would they? Everything is fine as I expected.
But, as I step into our old truck, as I heard the old engine s rumbling sound, I suddenly realized what
am I facing. I am facing the unknown, it s like a black hole, you never know what is going to happen
when you step inside. It s endless. As this thought continuously flows through my mind, my eye lid
started to felt heavier, heavier and heavier as the truck slowly drives on the muddy road. Followed by
the rumbling sound of the truck, I slept on the back seat. I felt

A Hero As A Hero In William Wallace s Braveheart
According to Campbell a hero is someone that must go out to a new land and take victory over
multiple life threatening challenges that will change who the hero is as a person. A hero must also
have a motive that pushes them to defeat these challenges. In Braveheart, the title character
demonstrates a hero as he leads his outnumbered and under armed men against the powerful English
army, as he seeks freedom for the Scots, and vengeance upon the English for the killing of his wife. At
the beginning of the film, William Wallace is introduced into the Ordinary World, and is presented as
innocent with no knowledge of the problems around him. He is introduced in the, Ordinary World, of
Scotland, where everything is peaceful and calm to him, as he is unaware about the challenges that lay
ahead of him. After being introduced Wallace Later on, Wallace faces his first Call to Adventure, when
Campbell comes to, Fetch you[Wallace] to a meeting. Campbell invites Wallace to a meeting about
fighting however, he does not want violence, so he chooses his own path. Wallace felt that, If I[he] can
live in peace I[he] would, which is his Refusal to Call, as he does not want to head out to fight and
face the uncertainty of the adventure that lays ahead. Instead he wants to live in peace with a family.
This a part of being a hero as he wants to maintain peace, unless violence is necessary. Later on in the
movie, Wallace accepts his Call to Adventure after the English

Prostitution is common lewdness for hire, the act or...
Prostitution is common lewdness for hire, the act or practice of a woman who permits a man who will
pay her price to have sexual intercourse with her. It is a universal phenomenon with moral, social,
cultural, psychological, medical, and other aspects. Although male prostitution is also found, that
involving males exclusively is best considered as part of the general problem of HOMOSEXUALITY.
History. Social attitudes toward prostitution have changed through the ages and go on changing. It is
difficult to generalize about primitive societies in which prostitution was generally obviated by an
early age of marriage, the existence of polygamy or ease of divorce, and the sexual freedoms of some
peoples. Instances of prostitution of slaves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the Greeks had few principles of sexual morality but a well preserved sense of public decency,
the Romans held much more exalted personal and family ideals but came to exhibit a general moral
depravity of which prostitution was only one form. In this development prostitution remained
shameful per se, for both parties. A system of police registration and taxation was developed very
early. The names of prostitutes could never be removed from the register, they were required to wear
distinctive dress, and they were deprived of full civil rights. Greek influence, along with the increase
of wealth and luxury, assisted in the spiritual decay of the Republic until even the upper strata of
society yielded recruits to prostitution. Corrective measures attempted by some emperors were
unsuccessful, as was a sixth century attempt at a monastic refuge established by Justinian, who also
removed some of the civil disabilities of prostitutes.
Christianity, while condemning the procurer, introduced a charitable attitude toward the prostitute.
There developed an interest in the reformation of prostitutes and the suppression of vice. The Church
established rescue missions, convents for the reception of penitents, and dowries to enable prostitutes
to marry. Innocent III commended the marrying of a prostitute. Gregory IX denounced those who
drew profit from prostitution,Page 774 | Top of Article counseled that brothel keepers should not be

A Comparison Of All Quiet On The Western Front
All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque and actual happenings from the war display
many similarities. The book does go much more in depth with the war than any other resource or
letter, but there is similarities in everything in the book to any other info about World War 1. Looking
from All Quiet on the Western Front to actual happenings in the war you can bring them together and
see the similarities in living as a soldier in the trenches, and how the men passed time during World
War 1.
Life for a soldier in the trenches in WW1 as described in actual letters and as described as in the book
sounded very alike. In the book it talks about the human eating rats, trench foot and leaving the dead
bodies lying on the ground just for something dry to walk on. Killing each separate louse is a tedious
business when a man has hundreds. The little beasts are hard and the everlasting cracking with one s
fingernails very soon becomes wearisome. (Remarque, 1929, p. 75) This is an example in the book
that can be connected to real life is when Paul and all the other men are sitting around the fire picking
lice out and burning them in a tin. Since then we have learned better than to be shy about such trifling
immodesties. (Remarque, 1929 p. 8) In that sentence Paul is discussing the toilets, or latrines, saying
how when he first started using the them they were nasty and it was embarrassing, but now he s
comfortable with using them. I cannot bear to look at his hands, they are like wax. Under the nails is
the dirt of the trenches, it shows through blue black like poison. (Remarque, 1929, p. 15) Paul
describes the trench mud as poison, because it is. It caused men to lose limbs, feet and sometimes their
lives because it caused gangrene. The rats here are particularly repulsive they are so fat the kind we
call corpse rats. (Remarque, 1929, p. 102) The trenches could be very muddy and smelly. There were
many dead bodies buried nearby and the latrines (toilets) sometimes overflowed into the trenches.
Millions of rats infested the trenches and some grew as big as cats. There was also a big problem with
lice that tormented the soldiers on a daily basis. (Heirs, 2014). In the article it

Disney Essay
Colin Wells Sherry Minkowski Government 12 26 March 2000 Disney s Influence on American
Culture How does one begin to describe a king? As generations change, society calls for new leaders
and kings, that will continue to push the boundaries. Steven Watts describes it as: Hollywood s leading
fantasy factory... (187) Disney is much more prominent in society, its impact now lives in every
household, as well as a place in everyone s soul. Behind it all is a thriving business that will out live
most humans now and in the future. Steven Watts breaks it down quite simply: Mickey Mouse and
Donald Duck embodied a collective desire to escape the pressures of modern life and return to
childhood. (127) The escape from reality, which Disney has provided ... Show more content on

Carl Hiaasen expresses the other side as well: Disney touches virtually every human being in America
for a profit.
That is rapidly becoming true as well in France, Spain, Germany, Japan, Great Britain, Australia,
China, Mexico, Brazil, and Canada. Disney will devour the world the same way it devoured this
country, starting first with the youth. Disney theme Wells 3 parks have drawn more than one billion
visitors, mostly kids. Snag the children and everyone else follows parents, politicians, even the press.
Especially the press. We re all suckers for a good cartoon.
(10 11) Not everyone on the planet wants G rated fare. When Disney targets adult tastes, it s careful to
leave Walt s name off the credits. The same folks who brought you 101 Dalmatians, a movie about
adorable puppies, also brought you Pulp Fiction, a movie featuring junkies, hit men, and bondage
freaks. The same folks who produce Home Improvement, a program about a wisecracking TV
handyman, are also responsible for Ellen, a program about a wisecracking lesbian. (11 12) If anything
is more irresistible than Jesus, it s Mickey. (12) Corporations have always had a dark side, just as
Disney does.
Balance is needed in life; there is a downside to everything. Nothing, not even Disney can be perfect.
Disney benefits society far more than it harms it. The joy a child gets from seeing Peter Pan flying
over Neverland can t be bought, it is already inside,

Issues In The Story The Miniature Wife
In the story the miniature wife, the wife and husband have issues with their marriage. The couple tries
dealing with their issues, but they grow more apart when they try working the issues out. Many people
in the world deal with issues in their marriage. There are many approaches people can try to work on
their issues, some of these issues are listening to each other, treat each other equally, and bring
changes to the marriage. First of all listening is one of the keys to a relationship, Mr listen to the Mrs.
And Mrs. Listen to the Mr. The wife and the husband don t listen to each other as the husband states
So she screamed, but I couldn t hear her. (27) The husband tried to solve this issue by shrinking a
phone to talk to him. The phone went unanswered when the husband tried to contact her. Now the
wife wasn t listening to the husband. In my experience, my mom and my dad didn t listen to each
other at times and things would go horribly wrong. In a situation such as getting lost on a trip to
Arizona, my Dad didn t ask for directions as my Mom asked him to. Things went horribly wrong as it
did in the story. According to strongermariage.org many marriage issues start because one doesn t
listen to other important issues causing a bigger issue to be made. As in the story the couple didn t
listen to each other and a war started between them. Solving the issue must be approached by the one
of them putting everything that has been going in the past behind them, and ask the

Texas Geography
The geography of Texas is hugely varied, from beaches to mountains. You can break Texas down into
four main regions, divided by rivers, escarpments and other natural features. Texas has all the
locations you might need: forests, cliffs, mountainous desert that could pass for Mars, NASA s
Johnson Space Center and even a coastline. The Lone Star state is often divided into four regions: the
Gulf Coastal Plains, the Interior Lowlands, also called the North Central Plains, the Great Plains and
the Basin and Range or Mountains and Basins region. Each region has unique landforms and natural
features. The first region of Texas is the Gulf Coastal Plains. The Gulf Coast stretches along the Gulf
of Mexico for hundreds of miles. Cities such as Corpus Christi, Galveston, and Houston are in the
Gulf Coast region. Near the gulf waters you can see marshes, barrier islands, estuaries, where salty sea
water and fresh river water meet, and bays. As you travel west, you can see prairies and grasslands.

The staff/employees of Oxfam influence the charity greatly and are the main reason as to why the
charity is successful. They provide the friendly customer service to those who decide to shop at the
Oxfam stores. Staff usually do work for free so this allows Oxfam to spend more on developing third
world countries, again this has an impressive influence.
Suppliers want steady orders and prompt payment, they also want to feel valued by the company that
they supply.
Suppliers are interested in supplying Tesco with goods because of the business they get from them and
the profit that they receive. They influence Tesco because if the suppliers go out of business then
Tesco will have to find new suppliers that may not offer the same high standards as the previous
supplier.
Suppliers/donators influence Oxfam greatly. Without the public supplying Oxfam shops with goods to
sell, the shops would fail and would not be able to raise money to support the charities work for third
world countries.
This may be a sole trader or partnership. In a company it would be the shareholders. A charity would

considered important stakeholders because they might have put a good part of their life into setting up
a business. Owners like to see the success of profit making and the growth of the business.

The Downfall Of My Family
There is no pain quite as severe and longlasting as the pain of divorce. Nothing will ever compare to
the sting and agony of watching your beloved family fall victim to a plague that you are helpless to
fix. All you can hope to do is to stand by idly as everything you have ever loved turns to ash before
your eyes. From the nights of holding my sisters weeping head in my arms, to the nights where I
struggle to hold up my own, the evil that is divorce is all destroying and has changed my life in ways
that cannot be comprehended. However, just as a phoenix rises from the ashes of his destruction, one
can rise above the deep gloomy trenches of depression after the storm of divorce. It all comes down to
how you bounce back and learn from it. The downfall of my family had a long lasting effect on me
and is still present even today, This being said, the one lesson that has carried me through the years is
this: What does not kill me will only make me stronger in the days to come. My home was built upon
the founding family virtues of love, happiness, laughter, and compassion. However, the foundation it
was built upon was made of sand, destined from the start to be sucked in below to the depths of
failure. How can any home hope to prosper without a stable foundation? The answer is that it simply
cannot. That was strike one of the downfall of my family in the late year of 2012. The pink and red
bricks, rose garden and neatly trimmed grass mocked our family for what we would never be;

Role Of The Dutch Colonial Rule
In this write up I will argue that despite factors such as different identities, the largely prevalent
separatist conflicts in Indonesia are mainly based on resources. I will attempt to demonstrate that
identity was instrumentalized in the colonial times to gain political and economic control, and that
spilled over to an internal colonialism in Indonesia in contemporary times. This created the foundation
for the Central government to instrumentalize constructed identities to gain economic control over the
resource rich minority islands, which led to violent separatist conflicts throughout the archipelago. To
begin with we can examine the role of the Dutch colonial rule in the Dutch East Indies and how they
laid the foundation for instrumentalist manipulation. With 13,466 islands, 360 ethnic groups and 719
languages the Dutch were extremely aware of the diversity that prevailed in this region (The
Economist, 2014). These various ethnicities and communities lived in peace prior to the Dutch role.
However upon the exit of the Dutch, this peace was shattered. The main purpose of exerting control
over Indonesia can best be explained by Immanuel Wallersteins world systems theory. It characterizes
the world system as a set of mechanisms, which redistributes surplus value from the periphery to the
core (Barfield, 1997). In the capitalist world system, the West makes up the core , while the regions of
Aceh and West Papua make up the periphery . In these regions

  • 2. War I Was No Standard Blueprint For A War Poet A war poet is a poet in time of and on the subject of war. A substantial number of important poets were soldiers, writing about their experiences of war. A number of them died on the battlefield, others like Siegfried Sassoon and Randall Jarrell survived but were scarred by their experiences, and some were just witnesses to the war like Thomas Hardy, and all of this was reflected in their poetry. Many poems were British and were published in newspapers and then collected into anthologies. Several of these early anthologies were published during the war and were very popular, though the tone of the poetry changed as the war progressed. (Santanu) There was no standard blueprint for a war poet; the War Poets were from a variety of backgrounds. The whole variety of backgrounds gives a clear idea that the impact of war in the trenches hit everyone who served there. Forbidden from writing home with any degree of accuracy or truth about the life they led, some put their thoughts into a diary that could be kept in secret. Others put their thoughts into poems. Most of these writers came from middle class backgrounds; many had been to public schools and served as officers at the front. (Truman) Poets that actually went to the trenches and saw action, the reality appalled them, they were all either wounded or shell shocked, or both. They wrote powerfully and poignantly about the effects of war on the bodies and minds of men, the horror and the waste. These poems have largely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The benefit of utilizing social media recruitment is the leverage that this mechanism has over traditional methods of recruitment. The problem with utilizing social media recruitment is that the gathering of candidates from Face books other sites may offer a long list of potential candidates which might prove time consuming. While, social media recruitment has the ability to lack the quality of potential candidates due to referrals made through LinkedIn as the candidates friends/business associates the overall benefit is that a good employee might yield through the contact. The challenge of traditional methods of recruitment is the vetting and screening process is time consuming. The problem with the traditional method of recruitment includes the time spent on each applicant s personal qualities versus allowing the internet to sort it out. • 4. Compare And Contrast Rednecks And City-Folk In America, we are blessed to be able to mostly live wherever we want, whether that be on the shore, in the middle of the woods, or in the densely populated cities. Each of these places has their own faults and perks, but how different or similar are they? How much worse could it be to live in the city than the country, or vise versa? The two stereotypical types of people, Rednecks and City folk, tend to stay loyal to their place of choice. What makes the two places so different, or similar? Looking at the logical facts, we can see the obvious differences and similarities between the two, but it all comes down to personal preference. The country is a beautiful place, full of a variety of weird people. Most people that live in the country are usually associated with hunting, fishing, beer, and large, loud trucks. There are normal people that live in the country, but most of the time they are affected by country air. If you are not a fan of having lots of neighbors, then the country is the right place for you. Most of the time, in the country, houses are spread much further apart than if you were in a city. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those rednecks with their big trucks usually end up not worrying out exhaust problems, or sometimes run a straight pipe, causing even more air pollution than probably 2 or 3 cars. In the country, if you were to take a walk in the woods, you would probably run into someone riding a quad. Given the popularity and the exuberant price for a 30 second Super Bowl ad is priced over $4,000,000 (Stauffer, 2013), more and more companies are using racy commercials laced with sexual innuendoes. The use of super model type females trying to sell products to the average football fan aged 18 49 (Gilmartin, 2013), using a variety of themes from Sexual assault (Covert, 2013), to the cliché that women are crazy (Covert, 2013), to a sexual fantasy with a make out session with a Victoria s secret model and a nerd (Taibi, 2013), to waitresses turning into strippers (Covert, 2013), the list goes on and on; however no matter how the commercial tries to differentiate itself from the other commercials In the same time slot, one thing Is a common denominator between all of them and that is sex. The first question to ask yourself is, why are the Super Bowl ads such a big deal and how long has this phenomena been in place? Since when have people tuned their T.V s in to watch this game, and how long have people been hosting Super Bowl watch parties for? What makes this one game such an extravaganza? A game that makes people who normally do not even care to watch the game, nor have any rooting interest in the game, but make sure not to miss a single minute of the game. • 6. R1972 And R2012 Report Assessment is an essential part of the teaching and learning process. Assessment is most effective when there is alignment between the outcomes, the design of assessment tasks, the criteria, marking procedures and feedback provided; this referred to as constructive alignment (Potter Kustra, 2012). The purpose of an assessment, and the modes and strategies used will depend on a number of factors. Diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment are three modes of assessment that may be used. While each of these modes of assessment has a particular purpose, the underlying purpose of all assessments is to promote student learning (Brady Kennedy, 2012). Diagnostic assessments are usually conducted at the beginning of a unit of work to find out students current levels of understandings and reveal any misconceptions. Summative assessments are given at the end of a unit of work these assessments are used to determine the degree to which students have achieved the learning outcomes, the effectiveness of ... The R1972 report used a norm referenced assessment approach where the student s grades are presented in comparison to the class average grades (Brady Kennedy, 2012) rather than being measured against a criterion or standard like the R2012 report. The R1972 report provides no information on how the grades out of 10 for the student or class average were determined. Farmers in the Midwest were the most widely affected in the beginning but quickly rippled to other areas. Farmers were in desperate need of a way out of the devastation. Many people who relied on their farm and on agriculture struggled in the 1980 s. WWII was the fire that lit the Farm Crisis of the 1980 s. WWII brought forth many new advances in all aspects of agriculture. New farm equipment, pesticides, seeds, and fertilizers made it easier for the everyday life of a farmer. It rose from 6.8 percent all the way to 21.5 percent in five years. Everyone in every part of the world was effected one way or another by this disaster, but farmers and rural bankers were especially hurt. Farmers had to borrow money for everything in the 1980 s. They had to borrow it for land, seed, equipment, housing and everyday life. The US farm debt quickly doubled when everyone started borrowing money for everything. Young farmers, who were just getting started, normally had to borrow huge lump sums of money at a time to get started. Farmers who had to borrow money and were in debt were usually the first to go out of business. In 1935, the number of farms in the United States reached an all time high of 6.8 million. By the mid 1980s, only 2.2 million farms remained. (Iowa Public Television) The number of farms drastically went down and most of the farmers were out of luck. • 8. The Importance Of Censorship In Libraries Censorship is a huge thing within today s society, Censorship in libraries is when a school board, a parent, or just anyone challenges a book that is explicit with sexual language, homosexuality, and or religion. The meaning of censorship is to ban a book, it s not necessarily up to the library, but more so to the community and the school board. Anyone can challenge a book to be censored, even if it s not explicit, if you personally take offense to a book you can challenge it to be a censored or banned book, but with that you have to have a valid reason on why you want it banned or censored. There are thousands of books that are considered to be explicit and are banned out of libraries in some schools even if they aren t that bad of books, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand there s a lot of schools who have just this specific book banned or censored because it is sexually explicit, homosexuality explicit, and religiously explicit. For my second reasoning, books can be challenged, censored, or banned in libraries if the parents, staff, or school board if they do not necessarily agree with their children to read books that are censored in libraries because they could be religious and it could be going against their beliefs and that would affect and cause a lot of chaos for the school district or public library; my prospective and voice on this is that there should be books banned, censored, or challenge because theirs always going to be someone who will take offense to something, wither it is a book, a movie, a magazine, or even a song. Mark Twain a famous poet once quoted, The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot read and I personally think this is important because I believe that the more experience that you may have in reading or just anything else, the more experience you will have means the more knowledge you have, this is significant because if you can read or hear and you choose not to listen to music or read, you are only hurting yourself because you will have no advantages over anyone. . The Ballad Of Mulan And Mui Slays The Serpent In the two stories The Ballad of Mulan and Chi Li Slays the Serpent two young girls living in Ancient China defy all odds and go against the gender barriers. On the contrary, Mulan is a secretive young girl, while Chi Li is honest. Both women reveal their true colors when they step out of their traditional role in society and take on the role of a man. Chi Li and Mulan both value bravery and their families well being. Chi Li and Mulan both take risks and forget about fear, as they take on challenges that could end with their death. When Chi Li says, Poor girls! ... The monster conquered you because you were too timid to put up a fight! How pitiful! it shows her value because she s making fun of the girls who weren t brave enough to fight the serpent. Chi Li frowns upon this as she values bravery and these girls were too proper to retaliate. Although nobody has ever been able to slay the serpent, Chi Li defies all odds and does so because of her courage. As for Mulan, even the small action of when she buys a spirited horse, ... she buys a saddle ... she buys a bridle .... she buys a long whip. shows bravery because she had to sneak around her town without anyone seeing her. If anybody saw her, they would realize what she was doing and her parents would have found on immediately. Her bravery overcame the feelings of fear she may have felt, and she stayed strong and fought for twelve years. Both women were brave as an attempt to care for their parents and their families. Even though fighting a serpent and fighting in a battle may have been risky, the two women fought their hardest for the benefit of their families. The two women were courageous because they faced danger and overcame it, even though this might have been difficult. Both women value bravery and family matters because of their fearless mind sets. The Mandate of Heaven, the idea that a ruler reigned only with the blessing of the heavens, was seen as a way to legitimize a dynasty and its ruler. Although it may seem as if a heavenly mandate gives a ruler absolute power, this is actually not the case. Instead, Mencius, a philosopher who emphasizes benevolent governance, asserts that a ruler can both acquire and lose the heavenly mandate based on his behavior and the treatment of his subjects. If a ruler is not equitable, in other words, the Mandate of Heaven can be withdrawn and bestowed upon a more qualified ruler. Thus, although the mandate sounds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Essentially, the heavens bestow the mandate upon the ruler, but the people are a factor in whether the mandate stays with the ruler or not. Hence, Mencius emphasizes the importance of just rule in order to please the people and keep the Mandate of Heaven. Mencius once again underscores the people s role in the heavenly mandate and declares their right to either abide by or revolt against a ruler. Mencius claims that rulers only possessed the Heavenly Mandate to rule so long as they retained the hearts of the people . . . For Mencius, the human heart was endowed with the ability to judge between right and wrong and constituted a bridge linking man with Heaven (Glanville 331). Mencius s belief in the ability of the heart to determine right or wrong gives the common people authority and power to identify whether a ruler is worthy of the mandate and the favor of the heavens. Consequently, it is imperative that the ruler retains the people s support as negative sentiments can lead to dissent and organized revolt amongst the people. This emphasis on the intimate and powerful link between the people and the heavens is translated in Mencius s concept of the ultimate supremacy of the people. Mencius declares that The people are of supreme importance; the altars to the gods of earth and grain come next; last comes the ruler (Glanville 332). Mencius prioritizes the ... BayarJargai was also climbing an empty barrel when a herd of cows came towards him in the film, but the child did not appear to be frightened at all. BayarJargai ignored the animals surrounding him while he sat on the barrel. This appeared significant because many children at his age would scream when they see an herb of farm animals coming his/her way. BayarJargai most likely appeared unaffected because he had previously seen his family members with the farming animals and he was mimicking his parents emotions. One unique cultural information about BayarJargai parents was that they tied him to the bed as he played with toilet paper to prevent him from causing trouble. • 17. James Simmons Sonnet For The Class Of 58 Life as the Graduates of the Class of 58 James Simmons poem Sonnet for the Class of 58 displays the conditions and society modern men live in. The poem develops its idea by giving examples of the graduates lives in adult world that is completely different from what they expected. As the speaker talks about how the ideal changes into only basic things in life, his words provoke the reader to think about their lives and compare them with their lives. The poem suggests the collapse of the ideal that young people have as they grow older and gain more experiences about reality of life. The argument is developed through the speaker s attitude toward his friends with realization that life is not what they expected it to be. In the first line ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the poem, life is not easy as the graduates and we thought it would be; there are obstacles and finally we have to endure and live unhappy. The poem teaches us about cruelty of real world that breaks our hopes and ideals; this cruelty is a consequence of society that people have to compete with others. After graduation, the graduates dream big, expect to chaste their dreams and to be successful. They also have moral principles in life and think that they will never break their own rule, but modern life doesn t allow them to do that, and then they stuck in the unhappy modern world as we can see in the poem. Only when they are drunk, life seem as it once seemed (8); this is a condition of people who have to drink to be happy and forget their miserable life, and we can see through alcohol sales that people really need to drink to gain their happiness. In addition, ideal everybody has seems to be destroyed when they grow up, and even people who are very successful and have power are disappointed with what they have become. This approach can be seen in the couplet: even those who ve gained more power and sense/ feel sorry when they feel the difference (13 14). Here the poem suggests that the society crushes their dreams and it relates to the conditions of the society; people have to fight with energy crisis and weak currency. Facing these problems to make a living, people are stressful and quit their expectations, and it leads to the collapse of their ideal. Finally the graduates only want what they think they can ... • 20. The Importance Of Single Parenting For my reading pleasure, I was able to read Help! I am Raising My Children Alone by T. D. Jakes concerning single parenting (Jakes, 2011). This book was written as a practical guide with the intentions to help single parents overcome the obstacles of single parenting and discover the hidden treasure that lies beneath the struggle. T. D. Jakes is a bishop, therefore there is a copious amount of faith and biblical scripture woven into his writing, however he does maintain practicality as well. Jakes (2011) encourage single parents to not give up, despite their circumstance. He also equips the single parents with thought provoking questions at the end of each chapter for reflecting, and activities to do with their families that will be beneficial to the growth and stability of each family. I would like to begin with a quote. Jakes (2011) states I raise my bow. Even if I am shot, I will raise my bow. I will lift it above my past, my pain, and my fears (p. 200). These arrows; my children, are my defense. I believe that this is a powerful statement to abide by to counteract the negative stigma that often comes with single parenting. Many single parents+ usually see their mistakes and feel guilty, struggle with past hurts, and may feel at a loss when it comes to raising their kids. However, Jakes encourages single parents to aim their bow high so that their children may soar. From a modern perspective, it seems that the public sphere promotes a short attention span in consumers. Ideas aren t explored in detail or at length, they re packaged as thirty second grabs . McKee also talks about us human beings, suffering from a curse of soundbites (Slayden and Whillock 1999). The terms short attention span and soundbite are the two most popular terms in our discussions about the public sphere. This evidently show us that the appearance is more important to us than anything else and how much more we concentrate on how the media approach everything that is surrounding us, rather than having our personal opinions. ... While the Greeks had few principles of sexual morality but a well preserved sense of public decency, the Romans held much more exalted personal and family ideals but came to exhibit a general moral depravity of which prostitution was only one form. In this development prostitution remained shameful per se, for both parties. A system of police registration and taxation was developed very early. The names of prostitutes could never be removed from the register, they were required to wear distinctive dress, and they were deprived of full civil rights. Greek influence, along with the increase of wealth and luxury, assisted in the spiritual decay of the Republic until even the upper strata of society yielded recruits to prostitution. Corrective measures attempted by some emperors were unsuccessful, as was a sixth century attempt at a monastic refuge established by Justinian, who also removed some of the civil disabilities of prostitutes. Christianity, while condemning the procurer, introduced a charitable attitude toward the prostitute. There developed an interest in the reformation of prostitutes and the suppression of vice. The book does go much more in depth with the war than any other resource or letter, but there is similarities in everything in the book to any other info about World War 1. Looking from All Quiet on the Western Front to actual happenings in the war you can bring them together and see the similarities in living as a soldier in the trenches, and how the men passed time during World War 1. Life for a soldier in the trenches in WW1 as described in actual letters and as described as in the book sounded very alike. In the book it talks about the human eating rats, trench foot and leaving the dead bodies lying on the ground just for something dry to walk on. Killing each separate louse is a tedious business when a man has hundreds. The little beasts are hard and the everlasting cracking with one s fingernails very soon becomes wearisome. (Remarque, 1929, p. 75) This is an example in the book that can be connected to real life is when Paul and all the other men are sitting around the fire picking lice out and burning them in a tin. Since then we have learned better than to be shy about such trifling immodesties. (Remarque, 1929 p. 8) In that sentence Paul is discussing the toilets, or latrines, saying how when he first started using the them they were nasty and it was embarrassing, but now he s comfortable with using them. I cannot bear to look at his hands, they are like wax. Under the nails is the dirt of the trenches, it shows through blue black like poison. (Remarque, 1929, p. 15) Paul describes the trench mud as poison, because it is. It caused men to lose limbs, feet and sometimes their lives because it caused gangrene. The rats here are particularly repulsive they are so fat the kind we call corpse rats. (Remarque, 1929, p. 102) The trenches could be very muddy and smelly. There were many dead bodies buried nearby and the latrines (toilets) sometimes overflowed into the trenches. Millions of rats infested the trenches and some grew as big as cats. There was also a big problem with lice that tormented the soldiers on a daily basis. (Heirs, 2014). In the article it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Role Of The Dutch Colonial Rule In this write up I will argue that despite factors such as different identities, the largely prevalent separatist conflicts in Indonesia are mainly based on resources. I will attempt to demonstrate that identity was instrumentalized in the colonial times to gain political and economic control, and that spilled over to an internal colonialism in Indonesia in contemporary times. This created the foundation for the Central government to instrumentalize constructed identities to gain economic control over the resource rich minority islands, which led to violent separatist conflicts throughout the archipelago. To begin with we can examine the role of the Dutch colonial rule in the Dutch East Indies and how they laid the foundation for instrumentalist manipulation. With 13,466 islands, 360 ethnic groups and 719 languages the Dutch were extremely aware of the diversity that prevailed in this region (The Economist, 2014). These various ethnicities and communities lived in peace prior to the Dutch role. However upon the exit of the Dutch, this peace was shattered. The main purpose of exerting control over Indonesia can best be explained by Immanuel Wallersteins world systems theory. It characterizes the world system as a set of mechanisms, which redistributes surplus value from the periphery to the core (Barfield, 1997). In the capitalist world system, the West makes up the core , while the regions of Aceh and West Papua make up the periphery . In these regions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
