Film Fun Home By Alison Bechdel
Alison Bechdel s comic book Fun Home clearly portrays the importance of gender roles in the
society. She mentions in her book incidents which illustrate as to how gender plays a major role in
forming a person s identity. Throughout the book, Bechdel suggests how the society has divided
people into different genders on the basis of appearance, duties and behavioural expectations. The
society as a whole needs to re asses these genderroles so that people don t end up ruining their life
thinking about what the society thinks.
In the beginning of the novel we see a difference of opinion between Bechdel and her dad
wherein, Bechdel wants to dress up her own way whereas her dad wants her accessories to
match her dress. This shows the importance of physical appearance in the society. Throughout
the story we see that Bechdel quarrels a lot with her family in regard to her dress code. Her
family seems to be always telling her to wear appropriate clothes according to her gender.
Bechdel seems to be annoyed with this. She states, Wearing a black dress my father had
wrestled me into, I appear to be in mourning (35). This clearly shows how opposed she is to the
way her father had forced her to dress up. She is a young child who is unaware of how gender
appearances decide the character of a person. Bechdel doesn t care about what the society thinks
about her. For her dressing up the way she wants to is most important. Another instance is when her
dad forces her to

The Works of Nathaniel Hawthorne
Nathaniel Hawthorne was an American novelist and short story writer who was born in Salem,
Massachusetts July fourth 1804. When Hawthorne was a young man he served as the editor of
the American Magazine of Useful and Entertaining Knowledge. That job introduced him into the
world of writing and at that point he decided what he wanted to do until the day he died. I do not
want to be a doctor and live by men s diseases, nor a minister to live by their sins, nor a lawyer
and live by their quarrels. So, I don t see that there is anything left for me to be but an author.
Hawthorne was found too dense, too gloomy, and to complex. To overcome these problem people
would attempt to view Hawthorne as a riddler and wry joke who always challenged himself and all
authorities. Hawthorne published several diminutive stories in various publications which he
collected in 1873 as Twice Told Tales. The 1900 s American author Nathaniel Hawthorne
s writings
were influenced by his guilt because of his non repentant grandfathers involvement in the Salem
witch trials. Hawthorne boarded with a poet named Thomas Green Fessenden on Hancock Street in
Beacon Hill Boston. After his strategic move to join with this poet he started to get into the flow of
producing good books people wanted to read. When readers started to understand Hawthorne s use
of Dante, Spencer, and the Bible this helped them to better understand Hawthornes imagination.
Hawthorne married Sophia Peabody in 1836

Music s Music On Pop Music
Most of the music on the radio today sounds very similar, and even those that sound a bit different
still have the same subject matter. It seems that the lyrics to songs don t matter much in pop
culture, judging by the songs played on pop radio that involve sex, drugs, and partying. Those like
me who truly have passion for musicrealize that lyrics are, in fact, important, if not the most
important part of a song. Those that are as passionate about music as I am tend to appreciate a
song more if its melody is nice and its lyrics are meaningful, rather than one or the other. Most of
the overplayed music on pop radio has lyrics that take less deep thinking than adding two plus
two. On the other hand, less popular genres of music, including indie and alternative, two genres
much less likely to be found on pop radio, incorporate some of these same themes drugs, sex, and
partying are still referenced in genres other than pop, and I refuse to lie and tell you all indie and
alternative music is completely innocent and wholesome it definitely isn t. But the themes that
occur constantly in pop music are translated into these genres in a way that means something far
more in depth. For example, where a song like We Can t Stop by Miley Cyrusblatantly states the
lyric dancing with Molly and talks about how she and her friends can do whatever they want
because they re high at a party, a song like The A Team by Ed Sheeran yes, this song does play on
the radio, and yes, I do

The Pros And Cons Of Firefighters
Firefighters are the men that allow us to not worry about burning down the town on the 4th of
july, or allow us to cook things in a massive kitchen without losing the entire building. You go, we
go . That s a famous phrase used by firefighters before going into iminate danger and to show
similarities of how firefighters are like local heros like soldiers(Howard). Fire fighters engage
themselves in tough and dangerous work to help the community around them. Anytime there is
a car accident, a sick person in need of advanced life support, or anything that has to deal with
fires, they must respond to at moments notice. Even though firefighters save people s lives
daily, that is not what they do on a day by day basis. They are fathers, husbands and sons. It takes
mental toughness and true passion to be good at this profession. Firefighters are some of the
most selfless public servants you will ever encounter(Platt). Overall, they are great people.
Being able to trace how a fire started and what method to put them out to understanding the legal
rules you are given by working for the government. To understanding how to equip and use all
the equipment even when they are getting more advanced day by day. Overall, firefighters just
give us that extra bit of feeling safe when things go wrong. To Start off with, Most fires are
reported too late because 2/3rds of the smoke alarms in America do not work correctly(Firerescuel)

UMUC Frederick MD Network Proposal
The network IP addressing scheme for the Frederick MD building should be designed to ease
network management. A well thought out network subnet design enables administrators to quickly
locate computers by IP address by building floor and room, and whether the computer is a server,
a student computer, staff computer or instructor s computer. A proper subnet design will also
minimize broadcast traffic that decreases network performance, by reducing the total number of
computers allowed in each broadcast domain. A proper subnet design will also provide for

The Virtue Of Civil Disobedience
The clock struck noon. Harry automatically put his head down when the orderlies entered the
room. He realized that avoidance wouldn t help, but self preservation was instinctual. At the top
of every hour, they had entered the waiting room. Their white smocks stained a bit redder than
when they last left. It was all very routine; the clock strikes, two people enter, three people leave.
It would continue until there was no one left. Harry breathed a sigh of relief, when they took the
lady next to him. She was the ideal citizen and had gone with them willingly. Her mind conditioned
since infancy to do so...it was the law; absolute obedience was guaranteed to the state. The law

Different Types Of Therapy For Me
Just by walking into the occupational therapy clinic, I know I am changing lives. When I can
make children happy by simply offering a toy or a pleasant smile, while inside they may be
struggling, I know I chose the right career to pursue. Therapy of all types is rewarding. Nothing
compares to the feeling you get when you see someone improving and you know you had a hand in
that improvement. But occupational therapytranscends all other types of therapyfor me because it
involves helping people on a more emotional and psychological level. Being able to volunteer
and observe occupational therapists at work showed me children who were often not able to
complete daily tasks. Seeing the children struggle with their fears and issues was extremely
difficult, but watching them slowly improve and gain confidence week after week was beyond
rewarding. They are not only able to find the strength to overcome their problems with each
session, they are able to adapt a more normal life, which is something I believe everyone should
have a chance at. Choosing OT was not a quick or easy decision for me. My first job was
teaching swimming lessons to kids at a local fitness facility and I knew after working there for
several years that I wanted to work with children in some way. My degree in psychology steered
me toward the work of Child Life Specialists, who would comfort and help in patient children and
their families at hospitals. Wanting to find out more about the career, I signed up for a

childhood. Her parents were married in 1944 Clark was 20 years his wife s senior and their
marriage was riddled with domestic violence. Their first two children were both suspiciously killed
before their first birthday. It was reported that Clark Wiley extremely disliked children and was
very mentally unstable. The third of the Wiley children John lived with Clarks mother Pearl, when
she was killed in a hit and run accident Clark held his son responsible which only added to his
fragile mental health.
The final child of the couple was Genie. At a doctor s appointment in late 1958 when Genie was
20 months old the doctor diagnosed her with mild retardation. However, this claim has been
debated. Nevertheless, Genie s sadistic father kept her in extreme isolation locked away in an
upstairs bedroom. The window was covered in aluminium foil and Genie was tightly restrained
to a potty chair in near darkness every day. At night she slept in a tattered sleeping bag tied down
in a cot that was enclosed with chicken wire. Although she would often be left on the potty chair
overnight. She was malnourished and Clark forbid his son and wife to speak to Genie. If she was
to make any sound she was beaten with a wooden plank, and was allegedly sexually abused also.

Yes, female economy could play fruitful role in future for different companies in term of
increase sales/revenue. Because according to Harvard Business Review women represent one of
the largest market opportunities in the world. The numbers of female workers are increasing
day by day, till the end of 2014, more than $28 trillion consumer spending will belong to females
all over the world and the income of females could cross $18 trillion during same period which is
two times bigger than China and India combined G.D.P. All big companies are more likely to
target female customers but the biggest potential of female buyers lies on six main industries
where companies could get more revenue by targeting females. In four industries females are most
likely to spend more in Food, Fitness, Beauty and Apparel and rest of two industries are Financial

industries have got big opportunity to generate huge revenues by capturing the interest of working

Our Culture is Defined by those Around Us
Culture is defined to the group of people which learned behavior that has already gave the
instruction from previous generation through next generation by imitation and language (Adler
1983 citing Barnouw 1963). Also Schein (1990) describes that culture is a lesson that a group has
been studied and solved the problem for internal integration and learnt to survive from external
environment for over period of time. For example, behavior, cognition and emotion processes and
in the deepest level which is included perception, language and thought processes such as attitudes
and feelings. For most of organizations nowadays have to face with an increasing of a diversity of
employees which are multicultural employees especially for multinational corporation(MNC)
(Fitzsimmons 2013). To deal with different cultures and nationalities, the companies and managers
have to learn and understand their employees such as common language, knowledge sharing and

the organizations (Fitzsimmons, Miska Stahl 2011) and set the policies or principles for

gender preference in healthcare providers, and illness causation misconceptions, arise out of their
cultural beliefs and practices. Other barriers are related to the complexity of the health care system
and the lack of culturally competent services within it. Nurses need to be aware of these religious

Nurses also need to integrate Islamic teachings into their interventions to provide appropriate care

Hepburn s Influence On The Fashion Industry

Hannah Montana Depression
Being an actor means to represent a character and act accordingly with the character they
represent. The effect of being famous as an actor is that they have no life, they cannot be
themselves because of the society. Behind the scene of each movie, there is their real life, not
just the life people think they have. For instance, Hannah Montana is a TV show mostly viewed
by kids and teenager. She was at a period of time kid s role model because of the life they thought
she had. Sometimes when asked who is Hannah Montana they describe her as a charactershe is in
the show and not who she is in reality. As it is all known Hannah Montana was in fact Miley
Cyrus. After the TV show ended in 2011, she was interviewed and she said a very deep sentence....

TV show narrates the story of a teenage girl who committed suicide because she got bullied or
maltreated by her friends. She sent 13 tapes to her closest friend and each tape had an event, a
story of and how a specific friend behaved with her. The message this TV show leaves is, we can
prevent suicide by being kind to people. People agree and disagree because having suicidal
thoughts is not something kindness might help it needs a cure not just kindness. In other hand,
kindness can play a great role to someone who wants to commit suicide, because most of the time,
they feel worthless so kindness might just like it could have helped Hannah Baker the adolescent

Electric cars vs the gas oh line cars
In the next ten years what the average American drives will be very different than today.
Electric cars may phase out gasoline (Gasoline is also known as petrol) in the next couple of
decade. Electric cars produce no tailpipe emissions and are much cheaper to fill up than the more
common gasoline vehicles. Switching to electric cars will have more benefits than drawbacks in
comparison to other fuels such as petrol and diesel. In order to switch to electric cars America s
electric capacity will have to increase. In the next few years electric cars will also have new
upgrades to increase practicality, range and longevity which may convince people to switch. The

In America electric cars are in the beginning phase of catching on in the market. While there are
some negatives to electric cars such as 24 percent mention they have concerns about having
access to recharging stations (Mealia). This is the biggest concern among people that are
considering switching to electric vehicles. Although some states are starting to put charging
stations in cities charging stations are still nowhere as available as gas stations nationwide. One
misconception of electric cars is that they have zero emissions. They do however have upstream
emissions (Kliesch). These upstream emissions can come from a coal fired power plant.
Depending on where one lives there may be no emissions produced. Only if the electricity
generated is from a renewable resource there will be no emissions. Right now, America does not
offer the capacity to charge the amount of electric cars needed on a mass scale. states are
working to get more power stations (Wald). As more states begin putting power stations the
demand for electric cars will go up. More power stations will make people consider purchasing an
electric car for their next vehicle. Even the government is giving people incentives to switch
electric cars. Obama s stated goal of putting 1 million electric cars on the road by 2015 (Rascoe).

How Technology Has Impacted Our Society
I.Introduction Technology and its constant advancements have integrated itself into every aspect of
our world. Music has now become a place for the facilitation of experiences through technology in
our society. However, the monetization of music through technology has created a far more
difficult experience for the fans of music in all genres. In reference to technology, the term
streaming is defined as playing continuously as data is sent to a computer over the Internet,
(Webster). The internet and its streaming capabilities is an amazing tool used to connect the fans,
almost instantly, to the music; however, it also puts the content at risk due to the possible
technological issues, exclusivity rights, and digital piracy. One of the biggest reasons why
technology has been impacted our society is because it has made itself useful in our daily lives.
Internet streaming technology has impacted our entertainment by delivering audio and video very
fast. So how does streaming work? Internet streaming technology is created through a
collaboration of three components the server, data stream, and decoder. Servers are used to store
information or data in its memory. When a consumer streams music online they are receiving
cable or satellite signals from the server to their device. Next, once your data has received it has to
be decoded back into audio and video. This continuous flow of information is known as streaming.

How Does Gluttony Consume Our Culture
Gluttony When people think about Gluttony, they picture a fat slob. However, there are two
different types of gluttony, which are gluttonies of delicacy and excess. The medieval s five ways
of sinning by gluttony depicts this dichotomy of gluttony perfectly. These include, eating and
drinking too soon, too expensively, too much, too eagerly, and with too much fuss (Guinness 213).
Gluttonyhas consumed our culture because we see it as the smallest of the seven deadly sinsand
most people do not even see gluttony as a sin! Steering Through Chaos demonstrates how gluttony
has pervaded our culture because of a moral emptiness, how the only cure is courage through
suffering, and how gluttony can affect my life. The gluttony of excess encompasses the first four
of the medieval ways to sin through gluttony. These four problems all associate to people who are
gluttonous in that they devour food. Time magazine gave a stupendous example when they
reported, An easy to spot glutton was the gigantic man who waddled into a Sir George s

This type of courage counters gluttony thanks to dedication, discipline, and patience. Courage is
also the opposite of gluttony because gluttony devours in an attempt to feel whole yet ends up
losing, whereas; courage is, a form of being consumed that seems to lose, yet ends in finding
(Guinness 234). John of the cross validates this when he says, Men and women consume and are
consumed by many things, some of which only shrink and debase them. But the ultimate
consumption and the grand counterpoint to gluttony is a human being ablaze with the glory of
God as if consumed with divine fire (Guinness 237). John is showing how courage that seemed to

President Kennedy. The nation under Kennedy had witnessed the failure of the Bay of Pigs, been

Reflection About Communication Technology
The Communications Technology course serves as a base to introduce a student to the
photography as well as the Communication Technology aspect of the field. Over this semester, I
am content with what I have learned are improved upon. When entering the class on this first day, I
did not know what I was going to expect. I thought this course was all about photographyas it is
mainly known as photography ; but after a brief introduction by Mr. Oseivhi, I learned that there is
much more components to it. This course focused on every little basic detail you absolutely need to
know before entering the CommunicationTechnology industry. The company project where we
were asked to make up a business and develop a business card, letterhead, video and logo made
me realized that it isn t easy to work together. You really need to be patient and corporate with
others instead of giving up. When my team mates weren t being respectful and doing the work
they were assigned, it got me frustrated and infuriated. I preferred working by myself and as a
result separated myself from them and worked individually. But once Mr. Oseivhi made us
realize that situations like these will mostly likely occur in our future jobs we needed to learn
how to adapt to others circumstances and work as a team. So therefore, that did happen and at
the end we got what we accomplished and as well as learned a valuable lesson. When using all
these new software s for the first time, I was shocked at how easy I was able

Immigration Scapegoats
In order to gain favor with the native masses, it seems that many politicians have used immigrants
has scapegoats. More to the point, when trying to find a way to isolate a country s problems
whether it be unemployment or the economy, most politicians try to find a scapegoat to blame for
the mishaps of the country s well being. For example, when the Marijuana tax act of 1937 was
passed its sole purpose was to halt the immigrationof people from Mexico. Moreover, many blamed
the immigrants from Mexico for the usage of Marijuana. As the usage exponentially increased
within the United States, the political solution was a blame on immigration. This is but one of the
many reasons immigrants become targeted by politicians and the government. However,

Essay on Acoustic Waves in Physics
Acoustic Waves in Physics
An acoustic wave can simply be described as a longitudinal wave. A longitudinal wave is a wave
that vibrates and moves in the direction of its propagation. This means the medium is either in the
same or opposite direction of the way the wave travels. Acoustic waves are a form of Mechanical
longitudinal waves; these waves are otherwise known as compression waves or compressional
waves. Compressional waves obviously produce compression, decompression, and rarefaction to
travel. In Physics, the acoustic wave has an equation to describe the evolution of acoustic pressure
and particle velocity as a function. The general equation is:

The molecules seem to move when something pushes them and forces the molecules to bump into

Acoustic waves are an isolation of pressure that travel in a wave pattern. Acoustic waves cause a
vibration that leads to your ear that allows us to hear. These acoustic waves are defined by three
different characteristics. These characteristics are amplitude, frequency and wave length. Amplitude
is the energy in a wave. The amplitude affects its volume or sound. The number of waves that pass
a point at each second, the higher the frequency, the higher the pitch compared to those who have
low frequencies. You can describe these waves as the waves that allow humans and other species
to hear. There is not different types of acoustic waves. The acoustic wave is a longitudinal
compressional wave. [8] There are no other kind of acoustic waves, sometimes they have different
equations but that is because some are higher and or stronger than others.
Acoustic waves in fact can be reflected. It is said that the waves can possibly exhibit different sorts
of phenomena. Diffraction, interference and reflection are all examples of phenomena the wave
can go through. This brings to topic an important difference between acoustic waves and sound
waves. Without acoustic waves it would be

1. What was the case about? (Summary of the Case)
The case was about how one man single handedly brought down one of the world s most historic
banks. The man was Nick Leeson and it happened from 1992 to 1995. He did it while holding the
position of general manager to Barings Securities in Singapore. As general manager he oversaw
both trading and back office needs, something uncommon in the industry due to the fact that it
eliminated necessary checks and balances that would prevent such fraud from occurring. He had
authority to deal in futures and options order for clients or other firms within Barings and

5. How did the case come to the attention of the media?
The case came to the attention of the media when Barings bank executives discovered Leeson s
trading activity and informed the Bank of England that they would not be able to meet SIMEX s
margin call, therefore declaring them bankrupt. Leeson had fled Singapore to Malaysia with his
wife in an attempt to make it to London. They where arrested in Frankfurt.
6. What was the outcome of the case?
Barings Bank collapsed because it was unable to meet SIMEX s margin call. The bank of England
was unable to save it due to the weariness of investors, they believed it was a black box and there
wasn t enough time to account for all the losses. On March 3rd, 1995 it was bought by ING for

Frankfurt, Germany trying to arrive to England to avoid extradition to Singapore. He went on
trial in Singapore and was found guilty of fraud; he was sentenced to serve six and a half years.
While in prison he contracted cancer, survived and wrote and autobiographical book called Rogue
Trader .
7. How could this case been avoided?
The situation could have been avoided if Barings would have had the appropriate checks and
balances required to prevent fraud. In Leeson s own words I completely recognize my fault in
what happened, but it was clear Barings were incompetent, and their lack of oversight was

cuisine. A sauce is defined as a liquid or semi solid food served on or in the process of preparing
other foods. Sauces are created to accompany other foods and make them look, smell, and taste
better. They are easily digested and nutritionally beneficial. Sauces are not served by themselves;
they add flavor, moisture, aromas, and visual appeals to a finished dish. Today there are many

Bechameil had invented BГ©chamel Sauce when trying to come up with a new way of serving
and eating dried cod. Only royalty would use milk in their recopies. Originally it was made by
adding heavy cream to a thick veal veloute. However today it is usually made without veal stock.
It s also known as white sauce. It is a smooth, white sauce made from a white roux made with
flour, butter and boiled milk. It is usually found served with white meats, eggs, and vegetables. It
forms the basis of many other sauces. For example cheese, cream sauce, Mornay, nantua, and
Soubise are all made from BГ©chamel. BГ©chamel sauce is the easiest mother sauce to prepare.
A properly constructed BГ©chamel is creamy, and smooth with no lumps or graininess. You must
use a stainless steel pan to cook in, if an aluminum pan is used it can discolor the white sauce to a
murky grey. The flavor of the onion and clove used to season the sauce should be noticeable, but
not strong enough to overwhelm the milk base. In similarity the sauce should not taste like the
roux. BГ©chamel should have a sheen white color, and should be thick enough to coat the foods
lightly in on the dish. Classically Served With, Eggs, Fish, Steamed Poultry, Steamed Vegetables,

Divine Command Theory In Plato s Euthyphro
Divine Command Theory in Plato s Euthyphro
Divine Command Theory is the topic brought up in Euthyphro. The theory is stated by Euthyphro
which suggests that the definition of piety is dependent on if the gods favor it. What makes this
theory complicated to argue is the context in which it is in. Since more than one god is involved in
the theory,it is the reason the argument works so well. Platos Euthyphro brings the Divine
Command Theory into play by setting up a situation were it can be discussed. Plato argues with
another character,Euthyphro, as to what piety is. The first argument used is pious because the
gods like it .The second argument Socrates used for Euthyphro was piety was because it is loved
by all the gods . The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Socrates does not tell
Euthyphro exactly what he means,he lets him draw his own conclusions.
Contributing factors to the Divine Command Theory in Euthyphro are mostly around the
grammatical structure. Euthyphro throughout the entire dialog is trying to explain something to
what seems to be the best of his abilities but with the use of grammatical manipulations on the part
of Plato,Plato also uses Euthyphro s argument against himself by finding simple mistakes and
loopholes in his speech. Even though
Plato seemed to twist his words around doesn t mean he didn t make a valid argument.
Another thing that makes this argument work is the use of multiple gods instead of a single god. If
a single god said something then there is no divine command theory.
When looking at the argument, ethics and morals are set closely together. Morals are mostly based
around what a religion has told you what is right and wrong. But first one has to understand what is
pious and impious. The argument regarding the first definition is more complicated when
discussing Gods rather than one God. One god tells you what is right and what is wrong. There is
no argument against it. When

If we look at the prompts we were given for this exact essay, one is asking us to defend the
accuracy of the statement for the theme of that the government s actions are not benevolent, but
self serving. The prompt itself isn t asking us if it is accurate. It s telling us that it is. What this
does is give us as a reader the preconceived notion that this is the truth. The problem here being
that what if we don t think that this statement is what the novel is about. Truthfully, you can
interpret anything from a novel, so you could really put any theme there and defend it. However
the statement from the novel itself describes this perfectly. Don t you see that the whole aim of

The Growth Of The Human Population
The indefinite growth of the human population, has monumental impacts on the natural
environment, not only in the UK, but around the globe. Architecturally, the entire process of

natural resources across the planet. Buildingwith environmental design strategies in mind not only
combats the impact we as humans have on the natural environment, but also has considerable

There are also many social benefits, such as improved air quality which resultantly leads too

The Implications Of Prospect Theory
The aspects that prospect theory takes into account and the expected utility doesn t, are
emphasis on low probability events and protective willingness, which means greater risk
aversion for precautionary decisions under risk (Kusev, P., van Schaik, P., Ayton, P., Dent, J.
Chater, N. 2009). These are called heuristics and biases in decision making. In this part, other
heuristics and biases of framing of the problem, gambler s fallacy and overconfidence will be
discussed in depth with respective example and ACAR of its significance on process of making
decisions. Firstly, the bias is framing of the problem. When people frame the problem in different
ways, it will result in different decision. The example is observed when the description of options
in terms of gains (positive frame) rather than losses (negative frame) elicits systematically
different choices (Gonzalez, C., Dana, J., Koshino, H. Just, M. 2005). This takes an important
place in business decision making. ACAR is made following. Frame (2012) outlines that framing
is the first step when people make decisions. Russo and Schoemaker (1989) proves that this bias
affects the recognition and response to problems by providing the boundaries (what will be
considered part of the choice set), reference points (elements used to determine success and failure),
and yardsticks (how the outcomes are measured) . Nevertheless, different people can have different

Research Paper On Airplanes
World War was had been the first major conflict that saw use of the newly invented airplane.
Newspapers filled with stories of daring pilots, valiantly taking down the opposing Luftwaffe.
Ace became a term for a pilot who successfully shot down at least five enemy aircraft; however
there were a special few pilots who far surpassed this and went down in history as the top aces.
America s Ace of Aces was Eddie Rickenbacker who throughout the war won twenty six aerial
victories, and earned the Medal of Honor for taking on seven German planes by himself,
downing two (Sherman). Coming in second was Frank Luke Jr. with 14 enemy balloons and four
enemy planes. He was known as the Arizona Balloon Buster and was posthumously awarded the
Medal of Honor for his last victory, when he shot down three balloons while taking fire from eight
planes, then, as he was going down, he opened fire on German ground troops killing six, and
finally, when asked to surrender, he instead... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Compared to the airplane, balloons were a more readily produced and more stable observation
platform. Having the ability to brave conditions that grounded airplanes and the ability to give real
time information though telegraph lines made them far more strategically sound throughout the
majority of the war. Their greatest contribution was providing unparalleled artillery spotting,
whereas artillery was the cause of seventy percent of the casualties during the war. The balloon
was so valued strategically that when airplanes had become more developed, their greatest
contribution was attacking and defending the balloons. Balloons were such valued targets that they
were greatly defended by anti aircraft guns and allied planes. As Rickenbacker remarked about
how the Balloon Staff favored Luke, They appreciated the value of balloon observation to the
enemy and knew the difficulties and dangers in attacking these well defended

Copyright Infringement is Immoral
The average person wouldn t even consider walking into a music store and stealing a CD,
however, with today s technology getting music without paying for it is so easy it barely seems
illegal. Copyright infringement is a huge ethical issue going on right now. From downloading
movies and music from peer to peer programs as well as various websites to being able to stream
a movie at the click of a button without a copy ever being saved on the computer it s so simple,
anyone could get addicted to doing it. For some of these reasons many argue that copyright
infringement is a moral thing to do, but on the other hand others believe it is just as immoral as
stealing. When comparing and contrasting reasons for why copyright infringement is moral and
why it is immoral I think when it comes down to it it is stealing and would obviously be immoral.
Before comparing the moralityof copyright infringement it needs to be understood what copyright
infringement is and how it is done. Coming directly from the United States Copyright Office.
Copyright infringement is when a copyrighted work is reproduced, distributed, performed, publicly
displayed, or made into a derivative work without the permission of the copyright owner (par 5). It s
pretty obvious that downloading copyrighted music from a website for free without owners
permission is copyright infringement, but there are other things that also constitute as infringement
that many people haven t even considered. For example:

Film Fun HomeBy Alison Bechdel Alison Bechdel s comic book Fun Home clearly portrays the importance of gender roles in the society. She mentions in her book incidents which illustrate as to how gender plays a major role in forming a person s identity. Throughout the book, Bechdel suggests how the society has divided people into different genders on the basis of appearance, duties and behavioural expectations. The society as a whole needs to re asses these genderroles so that people don t end up ruining their life thinking about what the society thinks. In the beginning of the novel we see a difference of opinion between Bechdel and her dad wherein, Bechdel wants to dress up her own way whereas her dad wants her accessories to match her dress. This shows the importance of physical appearance in the society. Throughout the story we see that Bechdel quarrels a lot with her family in regard to her dress code. Her family seems to be always telling her to wear appropriate clothes according to her gender. Bechdel seems to be annoyed with this. She states, Wearing a black dress my father had wrestled me into, I appear to be in mourning (35). This clearly shows how opposed she is to the way her father had forced her to dress up. She is a young child who is unaware of how gender appearances decide the character of a person. Bechdel doesn t care about what the society thinks about her. For her dressing up the way she wants to is most important. Another instance is when her dad forces her to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Works ofNathaniel Hawthorne Nathaniel Hawthorne was an American novelist and short story writer who was born in Salem, Massachusetts July fourth 1804. When Hawthorne was a young man he served as the editor of the American Magazine of Useful and Entertaining Knowledge. That job introduced him into the world of writing and at that point he decided what he wanted to do until the day he died. I do not want to be a doctor and live by men s diseases, nor a minister to live by their sins, nor a lawyer and live by their quarrels. So, I don t see that there is anything left for me to be but an author. Hawthorne was found too dense, too gloomy, and to complex. To overcome these problem people would attempt to view Hawthorne as a riddler and wry joke who always challenged himself and all authorities. Hawthorne published several diminutive stories in various publications which he collected in 1873 as Twice Told Tales. The 1900 s American author Nathaniel Hawthorne s writings were influenced by his guilt because of his non repentant grandfathers involvement in the Salem witch trials. Hawthorne boarded with a poet named Thomas Green Fessenden on Hancock Street in Beacon Hill Boston. After his strategic move to join with this poet he started to get into the flow of producing good books people wanted to read. When readers started to understand Hawthorne s use of Dante, Spencer, and the Bible this helped them to better understand Hawthornes imagination. Hawthorne married Sophia Peabody in 1836 ... Music s MusicOn Pop Music Most of the music on the radio today sounds very similar, and even those that sound a bit different still have the same subject matter. It seems that the lyrics to songs don t matter much in pop culture, judging by the songs played on pop radio that involve sex, drugs, and partying. Those like me who truly have passion for musicrealize that lyrics are, in fact, important, if not the most important part of a song. Those that are as passionate about music as I am tend to appreciate a song more if its melody is nice and its lyrics are meaningful, rather than one or the other. Most of the overplayed music on pop radio has lyrics that take less deep thinking than adding two plus two. On the other hand, less popular genres of music, including indie and alternative, two genres much less likely to be found on pop radio, incorporate some of these same themes drugs, sex, and partying are still referenced in genres other than pop, and I refuse to lie and tell you all indie and alternative music is completely innocent and wholesome it definitely isn t. But the themes that occur constantly in pop music are translated into these genres in a way that means something far more in depth. For example, where a song like We Can t Stop by Miley Cyrusblatantly states the lyric dancing with Molly and talks about how she and her friends can do whatever they want because they re high at a party, a song like The A Team by Ed Sheeran yes, this song does play on the radio, and yes, I do ... The Pros AndCons Of Firefighters Firefighters are the men that allow us to not worry about burning down the town on the 4th of july, or allow us to cook things in a massive kitchen without losing the entire building. You go, we go . That s a famous phrase used by firefighters before going into iminate danger and to show similarities of how firefighters are like local heros like soldiers(Howard). Fire fighters engage themselves in tough and dangerous work to help the community around them. Anytime there is a car accident, a sick person in need of advanced life support, or anything that has to deal with fires, they must respond to at moments notice. Even though firefighters save people s lives daily, that is not what they do on a day by day basis. They are fathers, husbands and sons. It takes mental toughness and true passion to be good at this profession. Firefighters are some of the most selfless public servants you will ever encounter(Platt). Overall, they are great people. Being able to trace how a fire started and what method to put them out to understanding the legal rules you are given by working for the government. To understanding how to equip and use all the equipment even when they are getting more advanced day by day. Overall, firefighters just give us that extra bit of feeling safe when things go wrong. Different Types OfTherapy For Me Just by walking into the occupational therapy clinic, I know I am changing lives. When I can make children happy by simply offering a toy or a pleasant smile, while inside they may be struggling, I know I chose the right career to pursue. Therapy of all types is rewarding. Nothing compares to the feeling you get when you see someone improving and you know you had a hand in that improvement. But occupational therapytranscends all other types of therapyfor me because it involves helping people on a more emotional and psychological level. Being able to volunteer and observe occupational therapists at work showed me children who were often not able to complete daily tasks. Seeing the children struggle with their fears and issues was extremely difficult, but watching them slowly improve and gain confidence week after week was beyond rewarding. They are not only able to find the strength to overcome their problems with each session, they are able to adapt a more normal life, which is something I believe everyone should have a chance at. Choosing OT was not a quick or easy decision for me. My first job was teaching swimming lessons to kids at a local fitness facility and I knew after working there for several years that I wanted to work with children in some way. At night she slept in a tattered sleeping bag tied down in a cot that was enclosed with chicken wire. Although she would often be left on the potty chair overnight. How Technology HasImpacted Our Society I.Introduction Technology and its constant advancements have integrated itself into every aspect of our world. Music has now become a place for the facilitation of experiences through technology in our society. However, the monetization of music through technology has created a far more difficult experience for the fans of music in all genres. In reference to technology, the term streaming is defined as playing continuously as data is sent to a computer over the Internet, (Webster). The internet and its streaming capabilities is an amazing tool used to connect the fans, almost instantly, to the music; however, it also puts the content at risk due to the possible technological issues, exclusivity rights, and digital piracy. One of the biggest reasons why technology has been impacted our society is because it has made itself useful in our daily lives. Internet streaming technology has impacted our entertainment by delivering audio and video very fast. So how does streaming work? Internet streaming technology is created through a collaboration of three components the server, data stream, and decoder. Servers are used to store information or data in its memory. When a consumer streams music online they are receiving cable or satellite signals from the server to their device. Next, once your data has received it has to be decoded back into audio and video. This continuous flow of information is known as streaming. II.Technological Issues According to Murphy s Law, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Does GluttonyConsume Our Culture Gluttony When people think about Gluttony, they picture a fat slob. However, there are two different types of gluttony, which are gluttonies of delicacy and excess. The medieval s five ways of sinning by gluttony depicts this dichotomy of gluttony perfectly. These include, eating and drinking too soon, too expensively, too much, too eagerly, and with too much fuss (Guinness 213). Gluttonyhas consumed our culture because we see it as the smallest of the seven deadly sinsand most people do not even see gluttony as a sin! Steering Through Chaos demonstrates how gluttony has pervaded our culture because of a moral emptiness, how the only cure is courage through suffering, and how gluttony can affect my life. The gluttony of excess encompasses the first four of the medieval ways to sin through gluttony. These four problems all associate to people who are gluttonous in that they devour food. Reflection About CommunicationTechnology The Communications Technology course serves as a base to introduce a student to the photography as well as the Communication Technology aspect of the field. Over this semester, I am content with what I have learned are improved upon. When entering the class on this first day, I did not know what I was going to expect. I thought this course was all about photographyas it is mainly known as photography ; but after a brief introduction by Mr. Oseivhi, I learned that there is much more components to it. This course focused on every little basic detail you absolutely need to know before entering the CommunicationTechnology industry. The company project where we were asked to make up a business and develop a business card, letterhead, video and logo made me realized that it isn t easy to work together. You really need to be patient and corporate with others instead of giving up. When my team mates weren t being respectful and doing the work they were assigned, it got me frustrated and infuriated. I preferred working by myself and as a result separated myself from them and worked individually. But once Mr. Oseivhi made us realize that situations like these will mostly likely occur in our future jobs we needed to learn how to adapt to others circumstances and work as a team. So therefore, that did happen and at the end we got what we accomplished and as well as learned a valuable lesson. Divine Command TheoryIn Plato s Euthyphro Divine Command Theory in Plato s Euthyphro Divine Command Theory is the topic brought up in Euthyphro. The theory is stated by Euthyphro which suggests that the definition of piety is dependent on if the gods favor it. What makes this theory complicated to argue is the context in which it is in. Since more than one god is involved in the theory,it is the reason the argument works so well. Platos Euthyphro brings the Divine Command Theory into play by setting up a situation were it can be discussed. Plato argues with another character,Euthyphro, as to what piety is. Buildingwith environmental design strategies in mind not only combats the impact we as humans have on the natural environment, but also has considerable economic benefits, due to lower running costs of buildings and advanced occupant productivity. There are also many social benefits, such as improved air quality which resultantly leads too enhanced health of a buildings occupants. The first section of my report touches two case study buildings that considers such matters in an intimate way, the Dalby Forest Visitor Centre in Yorkshire, and the Heels Building, National Trust Headquarters, located in Swindon. The second section of the report focuses on a personal statement, giving my opinions on both buildings environmental sustainability and overall impact. Case Study 1 Dalby Forest Visitor Centre: Firstly I investigated the Dalby Visitor Centre by White Design, located in Yorkshire, UK. The ВЈ2.5 million environmentally sustainable visitor centre is one of the first visitor centres the Forestry Commission have funded with environmental viability as its core target. Essay Abraham Lincolns Assassination Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth President of the United States was elected president on November 6, 1860. Not even on the South s ballot, Lincoln received 40% of the popular vote. As a strong republican, Lincoln believed in the abolition of slavery. Lincoln became president in the highest conflict between North and South in history, and wanted to preserve the Union. He believed that the South should not be punished after the Civil War, because he thought that they had already been punished enough. Abraham Lincolns lenient policies along with the effects of the Civil War led to his assassination. In the 1860 s, disputes began to arise about the amount of power that should be given to the State and Federal governments. During this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then, when Richmond fell to Union forces, Booth was crushed by the fall of the rebellion and returned to Washington (The Effect of President Lincoln s Death on National Affairs 4). Booth believed that Abraham Lincoln would be not be re elected for his second term (Redford, R.). Soon after, Booth attended Lincoln s second inaugural speech and uttered the words What an excellent chance I had, if I wished, to kill the President on Inauguration day! (qtd The Effect of President Lincoln s Death on National Affairs). He hated that slaves would be treated as equals (The Lincoln Assassination and its Aftermath). Previously, Booth had wanted to abduct Lincoln to trade him for prisoners of war to benefit the Confederates, but the defeat of the South changed his plans to murder (Redford, R.). After the war, Lincoln gave a speech outlining his plans for peace and reconstruction for the country (34f. The Assassination of the President). The Implications OfProspect Theory The aspects that prospect theory takes into account and the expected utility doesn t, are emphasis on low probability events and protective willingness, which means greater risk aversion for precautionary decisions under risk (Kusev, P., van Schaik, P., Ayton, P., Dent, J. Chater, N. 2009). These are called heuristics and biases in decision making. In this part, other heuristics and biases of framing of the problem, gambler s fallacy and overconfidence will be discussed in depth with respective example and ACAR of its significance on process of making decisions. Firstly, the bias is framing of the problem. When people frame the problem in different ways, it will result in different decision. The example is observed when the description of options in terms of gains (positive frame) rather than losses (negative frame) elicits systematically different choices (Gonzalez, C., Dana, J., Koshino, H. Just, M. 2005). This takes an important place in business decision making. ACAR is made following. Frame (2012) outlines that framing is the first step when people make decisions. Russo and Schoemaker (1989) proves that this bias affects the recognition and response to problems by providing the boundaries (what will be considered part of the choice set), reference points (elements used to determine success and failure), and yardsticks (how the outcomes are measured) . Nevertheless, different people can have different framing of the problem so if they exchange thoughts, outcomes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Research Paper OnAirplanes World War was had been the first major conflict that saw use of the newly invented airplane. Newspapers filled with stories of daring pilots, valiantly taking down the opposing Luftwaffe. Ace became a term for a pilot who successfully shot down at least five enemy aircraft; however there were a special few pilots who far surpassed this and went down in history as the top aces. America s Ace of Aces was Eddie Rickenbacker who throughout the war won twenty six aerial victories, and earned the Medal of Honor for taking on seven German planes by himself, downing two (Sherman). Coming in second was Frank Luke Jr. with 14 enemy balloons and four enemy planes. He was known as the Arizona Balloon Buster and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his last victory, when he shot down three balloons while taking fire from eight planes, then, as he was going down, he opened fire on German ground troops killing six, and finally, when asked to surrender, he instead... Having the ability to brave conditions that grounded airplanes and the ability to give real time information though telegraph lines made them far more strategically sound throughout the majority of the war. Their greatest contribution was providing unparalleled artillery spotting, whereas artillery was the cause of seventy percent of the casualties during the war. The balloon was so valued strategically that when airplanes had become more developed, their greatest contribution was attacking and defending the balloons. Balloons were such valued targets that they were greatly defended by anti aircraft guns and allied planes. As Rickenbacker remarked about how the Balloon Staff favored Luke, They appreciated the value of balloon observation to the enemy and knew the difficulties and dangers in attacking these well defended ... Copyright Infringement isImmoral The average person wouldn t even consider walking into a music store and stealing a CD, however, with today s technology getting music without paying for it is so easy it barely seems illegal. Copyright infringement is a huge ethical issue going on right now. From downloading movies and music from peer to peer programs as well as various websites to being able to stream a movie at the click of a button without a copy ever being saved on the computer it s so simple, anyone could get addicted to doing it. For some of these reasons many argue that copyright infringement is a moral thing to do, but on the other hand others believe it is just as immoral as stealing. When comparing and contrasting reasons for why copyright infringement is moral and why it is immoral I think when it comes down to it it is stealing and would obviously be immoral. Before comparing the moralityof copyright infringement it needs to be understood what copyright infringement is and how it is done. Coming directly from the United States Copyright Office. Copyright infringement is when a copyrighted work is reproduced, distributed, performed, publicly displayed, or made into a derivative work without the permission of the copyright owner (par 5). It s pretty obvious that downloading copyrighted music from a website for free without owners permission is copyright infringement, but there are other things that also constitute as infringement that many people haven t even considered. For example: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
