Turtle All The Way Down Essay Questions
Throughout Turtles, All the Way down John Green continually conveys AzaВ
ґs deep internal
struggle with mental illness and anxiety as something only Aza can comprehend. Although many
people in her life attempt to empathize, understand and support Aza throughout the book, they can
never actually experience AzaВґs Brutal internal battle with anxiety. A primary literary device used
to portray AzaВґs profound internal and external struggles effectively is conflict. Aza struggles with
a plethora of conflicts throughout the book. One impulsive decision in the book is when as drinks
hand sanitizer, this hasty decision caused by her thought spirals isn t only healthy but insane. When
Aza makes the utterly careless decision to drink hand sanitizer, she... Show more content on

The dominant Motif I noticed over and over was when Aza would continuously open the scab on
her finger and meticulously examine the finger for infection and signs of disease. When Aza
begins to think about her finger she gets utterly impulsive. For example a quotation on page 6
states ВЁOnce I start thinking about splitting the skin apart, I literally can not do it. I apologize
for the double negative, but it s a real double negative of a situation, a bind from which negating the
negation is the only real escape.ВЁ This quotation represents that Azas impulsive actions lead to
repeated stress and anxiety. Azas anxiety as a significant aspect of the book, her anxiety creates
problems that are only comprehensible to her. A significant problem that her anxiety causes that
ordinary people don t have to deal with is her constant impulsive actions like opening and closing
the callus on her finger every time she thinks about it. The difference between Aza and her family
and friends is that when Aza is thinking about a particular action or a consequence of action the
thought of the action or consequence halts in the middle of her brain. People in Azas immediate
circle struggle to grapple Azas never ending fight with anxiety because they have never experienced
that kind of pain and uncontrollable thoughts. That inevitable to uncontrollable subconscious
impulsive actions, which are detrimental to AzaВґs health and emotional well being. I see Aza as
an addict, and her addiction is to open and to close the callus on her finger. And when she hasn t
checked her finger in a while, she begins to go insane like a Heroin addict without

The USA Patriot Act Analysis
The coordinated terrorist attacks of September 11th attempted to shake the foundation of American
democracy and changed how Americans viewed terrorism. No longer was terrorism an issue of
distant countries, the aftermath of the terrorist attacks left the American people searching for
answers to prevent another attack on the homeland. Signed into law less than six weeks after the
September 11th attacks, the Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools
Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act (USA PATRIOT Act) of 2001 sent a strong
message to American citizens and the rest of the world that the United Statesgovernment was
prepared to amend laws in order to combat both foreign and domestic terrorism and ensure public
safety.
Problem
The hastiness of its inception caused the USA PATRIOT Act to be deemed unconstitutional by the
public court of opinion. Many citizens feared it was a knee jerk reaction to an attack that came
without warning. However, the USA PATRIOT Act is constitutional and an effective counter
terrorism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Michael McCarthy argues the USA PATRIOT Act of 2001 provided a comprehensive approach to
a new threat on the United States. Passed with overwhelming support, the haste was considered
essential by law enforcement officials seeking to prevent further attacks feared to be imminent
(McCarthy, 2002). In analyzing the key aspects of the USA PATRIOT Act, McCarthy states the
Act provides a balance between the strengthening of the executive branch and the necessary checks
and balances of the legislative and judicial branches. These checks and balances help to protect
individual rights while ensuring national security. One of the most important checks was placing a
sunset timeframe of four years on key powers dealing with executive discretion. In doing so, the
legislative and judicial branches ensured continued oversight over the Act and protection from
abuse of power from the executive

Socioeconomic Status In America
In the United States, obtaining a higher education is more important than ever. The income gap
between a family of college graduates and a family of high school graduates grew 30,000 dollars in
just three decades (Porter). Institutions of higher education are engines of upward mobility that is
not afforded to the entire population. American society is still plagued with racial disparities;
however, they are no longer the main divider separating Americans. Today, the most imminent
danger to the American dream is socioeconomic status (SES). The Organisation for Economic Co
operation and Development (OECD), an intergovernmental economic organization, found that when
it comes to academic achievement, SES has more influence in the United States

Public Diplomacy And Nation Branding
Ask anyone what they think of when they hear the word Russia these days and you re likely to
elicit one of two common responses: Did you hear about their doping scandal or did you hear
about what their president said, the latter usually referring to the enigmatic personality that is
Vladimir Putin and a series of nuclear tests that seems to foreshadow World War 3.
Russia has actually been behaving remarkably well in the past few years and appears to be trying
to change the world s perception about the nation, which is why it is so disappointing that they
have been reduced to these two headlines. Sports diplomacy is one of many spheres of public
diplomacy and nation branding that Russia has been investing heavily in. Aimed not only at
developing a positive image of Russia, but also at fostering and developing relationships with post
conflict nations, Russia s public diplomacy is certainly key to their national interests.
Before the aforementioned headlines were released Russia was actually using sports diplomacy in
nation branding incredibly well, be it the winter Olympic Games in 2014, the new Russian Formula
1 Grand Prix, or the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup. These events show a remarkable effort by
Russia to drastically change its international image, with the Sochi Olympic Games being the best
example. Jarol Manheim stated in his analysis of the 1988 Seoul Olympics that hosting the
Olympic Games presents a unique for the host country to assert a global image of power

Eugene Victor Debs Research Paper
It seems our country has always had a want for radicals who are captivating, and so it would us
do well to recall the likes of Eugene Victor Debs. Debs was what every socialist or revolutionary
or activist should be: intense in his principles, as well as sympathetic and compassionate in his
personal relations. Debs looked at the working class struggle not as a scholar, but instead as one
who was directly entangled he provided assistance by giving a voice to the great effort, or as he
told an assembly of Philadelphia workers, I look into your faces. I catch your spirit. I am simply
the tongue of the working class, making this appeal from the working class. Debs was clear about
which war he was equipped to fight: I am not a capitalist soldier; I am a proletarian revolutionist....

He embraced trade unionism gradually, and Socialism with even greater hesitation. As an
organizer for the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen in the 1870 s, Debs preached Christian
moral inspiration and opposed strikes as a threat to labor management harmony. Before
declaring himself a Socialist in 1897, Debs went through various ideological incarnations, from
Democratic Party politician to free silver Populist. Debs was a Socialist of a deeply practical
bent, who deplored the insurrectionary rhetoric of the Wobblies and helped build The Socialist
Party. Debs linked the struggle for the people do not wholly ignore industrial democracy of life.
His devotion to the cause was unquestionable, but what began to make Debs truly memorable
was his giving nature, a passion for identifying with the lost, the desperate, or underprivileged.
He became known for simple Christ like acts of generosity, such as presenting clothes from his
own valise to those in need, or making impulsive gifts of money. While there is a lower class I am
in it; while there is a criminal element I am of it; while there is a soul in prison I am not free. he

David Hume and Future Occurrences Essay
David Hume, in An Inquiry Concerning Human Understanding, discusses how we cannot predict
the future. Even though our experiences and our reasoning tell us that objects act in a predictable
way, we still cannot prove how objects will act in the future based upon previous interactions.
After biting into a piece of pizza we expect an enjoyable taste. This enjoyable taste is expected
because our past experiences have proven this to us. Even though we think we can predict that the
pizza will act the same as our previous experiences, it may just blowup upon biting. Hume explains
that there is no way to predict the future based on our previous experiences and reasoning and I
will explain the logic he uses to prove this.
To start, Hume makes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of a matter of fact is that my name is Josh Peete. I could have been named
something else like John Doe and I still would be the same object. The contrary of every matter
of fact is still possible, because it can never imply a contradiction and is conceived by the mind
with the same facility and distinctness, as if ever so conformable to reality. (500) So the opposite of
a matter of fact can be true. The piece of pizza that I bite into could explode in my face even
though I had never experienced that before. Matters of fact, or knowledge learned through
experience, cannot prove how objects function.
People believe in matters of fact because they have some other reason for doing so. All reasoning
concerning matter of fact seems to be founded on the relation of cause and effect. By means of
that relation alone we can go beyond the evidence of our memory and senses. (500) I have a
firecracker and a lighter. The cause for the firecracker to explode would be me lighting the fuse.
The effect of me lighting the fuse would be that the firecracker explodes. These claims are called
causal claims and they explain the cause and effect relationships of objects. Hume uses the
example of someone on a desert island who finds a watch. The person on the island concludes that
the effect of a watch being on the island is a cause of a human once inhabiting it. His reasoning
though may be

Carl Sandburg Research Paper
Carl Sandburg; a 20th century American Poet, once defined poetry as ...the opening and closing of
a door, leaving those who look through to guess about what is seen during that moment. Sandburg
attempts to suggest that an experience can be expressed by a poet via the way language is used.
Many writers are influenced heavily by the political, social, and environmental situations that they
ve experienced, which may need to be known to the reader to fully understand what the writer is
trying to communicate through their works.
Langston Hughes was initially recognised as an important literary figure in the 1920s, a period
commonly referred to as the Harlem Renaissance which was based in Harlem, New York City.
During this period there was an exceptional amount of black writers that were emerging such as
Countee Cullen, Claude McKay and Langston Hughes. This literary period is best known for its
use of blues and folklore in many famous pieces and the African American writers that emerged
during this time. Hughes was very active in social and political causes, He often used his poems
as a medium for cultural protest. He wrote over 50 books and his play Mulatto; a term originally
used to refer to someone who is born from one white and one black parent, was preformed over 300
times on Broadway. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ralph Waldo Emerson
To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest
accomplishment, Ralph Waldo Emerson once said. Ralph was born on May 25, 1803 in
Boston, Massachusetts(poets.org). His father was a clergyman, which is a male religious leader,
just like many other ancestors were (poets.org). When Ralph was about 8 years old, his father
died from stomach cancer, after the birth of his eighth child (shmoop.com). When Ralph was
young, he attended the Boston Latin School (poets.org). After graduating from Boston School,
he began an undergraduate study in Harvard (shmoop.com). He worked part time as a grammar
teacher to earn money (shmoop.com). When Emerson graduated from Harvard, he began to
teach at a girls school (shmoop.com). The school was run by William, one brother of eight
siblings (shmoop.com). His very first publication was a magazine article called Thoughts on the
Religion of the Middle Ages. After working at his brother s school for a certain time, Ralph
decided to go back to study at Harvard s newest building, the School of Divinity (shmoop.com). He
left his teaching job and sailed south during the winter to restore his failing health (shmoop.com).
In 1828, Emerson became engaged to Ellen Louisa Tucker, whom he met when he sailed south

Tampa Bay Case Study
Heading into this season, there were a lot of question marks surrounding the Tampa Bay
Buccaneers. Would quarterback Jameis Winston take a step forward in his second season as the
Buccaneers starter? What type of production would the Buccaneers get out running back Doug
Martin, who they re signed over the offseason to a five year deal? Finally, could first year head
coach Dirk Koetter lead Tampa Bay to the playoffs?
Fast forward to Week 12 and it seems like all those questions have been answered, as the
Buccaneers are playing exceptional football with a chance to not only make the playoffs, but win
the NFC South. Currently, Tampa Bay is 5 5 and only sitting one game behind the Atlanta Falcons
for first place in the division.

Through the first four weeks of the season, Winston along with the rest of the team struggled. In the
first four games, Winston only completed 58.2 percent of his passes for 1,109 yards, eight
touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Also during that span, he was sacked 10 times.
Winston s worst game during the first four weeks came against the Arizona Cardinals on the road
in Week 2. Winston and the Buccaneers were overmatched by the Cardinals and it showed as he
threw four interceptions and was sacked three times. Tampa Bay went on to lose that game 40 7.
However from Week 5 on, Winston has played better football and it s a reason why they are 4 2
in their last six games. In the last six games, Winston is completing 62.2 percent of his passes for
1,572 yards, 12 touchdowns, and only two interceptions.
The two interceptions are a major key for Winston as they have been a bugaboo for him in his
young career. Tampa will need him to continue to take care of the ball, if they want to have a
chance to make a playoff

Descriptive Essay On The Wrecking Ball
The Wrecking Ball The crowd screamed and surged as they looked up at the gleaming escalator.
He descended proudly, nodding approvingly at their expectant and trusting faces. All of their
dreams and hopes came down with him, reaching the high point as he stepped off at the very
bottom. Over in the expansive ballroom, just beneath the majestic chandelier, hang his best
surprise yet. The wrecking ball swayed slowly and gently, waiting to pick up some speed. He
knew it was right there, but for now, he would work the crowd. When they were all charged up
into a great frenzy, he pointed at the toy above their heads. Together, they would play for many
days to come. He would aim, they would cheer, and on and on it would go. He was going to
swing as far and as high as possible. He had many targets. He would hit one at a time, hard
enough to knock, flatten, and obliterate it forever. Far beyond the adoring crowd were those
others who jeered in spite. He looked over and took aim at the women standing tall. They knew
him from before and were sure he was no good. He would not let them ruin his dreams, and so he
took aim directly at their heads. How dare they stand their ground against him and his dream?
He would show them who was boss after that cherished inaugural. Way over in the trenches, the
immigrants toiled for their dreams. He gave them a once over and saw a bunch of crooks. He
pulled the lever again and aimed at the busy lot. The crowd cheered yet again as the ball flew
through the air. With nowhere safe to turn, the immigrants looked up for help. The ball was
getting closer, and they prayed that help would come soon. He was getting even more frenzied,
and the brothers and sisters were next. Not feeling included had them taking pause. How well
did he know them or care for what they cherished? After pushing them away, he was mad at them
now. He pulled and aimed the ball right for their centre. First, he would scatter their faith to end
their unity. He would pit one against the other and race to a sure victory. He would call them
cheaters and suppress their big turnouts. He would bring doubt to the trusted process. He looked
out to the back and saw the media in full form. If he could just break their pens and

The Office of Warren G. Harding
In the early 1920s, after facing the struggles of World War I, the Palmer Raids, and Wilson s fall,
Americans craved stability. Republicans were promising a return to the settled country we once
were, and this eventually led to the election of Warren G. Harding, the first Republican president
in the decade. One of his first acts as president was allowing people to walk on the White House
garden, reassuring the citizens that their government was returning to them after a time of hardship.
During his campaign, Harding called for normalcy , a consistent period of peace and quiet,
something that appealed to Americans after the time of relentless strain. Despite the scandals,
President Harding was successful during his term, as he delivered to the public what he had
promised, a return to normalcy and revival, by lowing income taxfor the rich, passing many tariffs,
and initiating the Washington Naval Conference.
Harding listened to the demands of the rich citizens, in terms of taxes. In 1921, he created the
Bureau of the Budget, which provided the government with an accounting of its income, and it
eventually helped in assessing past performances and in planning future government programs. This
Bureau also allowed the government to decide what is best for the citizens and for the economy
very easily. It saved so much money during such a crucial time, as it, for the first time ever, limited
government spending. Additionally, Mellon, Harding s Secretary of Treasure, introduced

A Report On The Energy Project Programme
Assignment A
During the summer of 2014 I took part in the Energy Project programme, I was paired with a
small heating engineering company, Global Celsius solutions. The company had recently
developed a cheap, rugged and reliable water boiling system, the Jompy boiler. The system itself
took advantage of compact heat exchanger design principles incorporating a high surface area,
minimising the footprint of the system without sacrificing overall performance, the boiler was
capable of producing water in excess of 70oC within a matter of 5 7 seconds(from my own
experience with the boiler). The overall aims of the project included:

The purpose of the hiring of the local partners is to take advantage of their knowledge of the local
populace, for example if a potential customer has a reputation of looking after their belongings and
being good on their word concerning their repayments, then a set minimum deposit would be
implemented, and vice versa for a person notorious for abuse of equipment and poor money
management. The key would be to ensure that the monthly repayments would remain consistent.
After approximately 8 months the Jompy is paid off, instead of increasing profitability of the
scheme after this benchmark all excess repayments are invested back into local development and
infrastructure (schools, education fees, stationary etc). My task was to investigate potential
problems faced by the model and if any companies had successfully implemented like minded

one of the main problems involved initiating an honest and mutually beneficial relationship with

strategies and suggesting forms of engagement towards those who would benefit most from the

The Internal Revenue Code Provided Adjustments
Drafters of the Internal Revenue Code provided adjustments to the basis of partnership property as
a consequence to the sale or exchange of a partnership interest, including transfer of such an interest
on the death of a partner provided the partnership made an election or the partnership has a
substantial built in loss. Absent a basis adjustment, the incoming/transferee partner will be taxed on
the same gain when realized by the partnership if the interest transferred had appreciated. The

II. Section 743(b) Mechanics Section 743(b) provides for a special adjustment to the basis of
partnership assets to take into account the amount that the buyer actually paid for his interest in
each of those assets. The special basis adjustment is intended to reduce the buyer s outside basis
and inside basis disparity. This adjustment is deemed special because it is unique to the transferee
partner, without affecting the partnership s basis in the assets.
Equality between inside basis and outside basis in Subchapter K is central to its configuration.
Partnerships are intended to provide taxpayers with an entity carrying a single layer of tax. The
inside outside basis equality ensures that result. Absent nonrecognition provisions, when a third
party purchases, or receives by bequest, a partnership interest, the transferee s receives cost basis or
fair market value basis. That cost includes the partnership liabilities attributable to the acquired
interest. Section 743(a) disrupts Subchapter K s goal of basis uniformity by leaving the basis in
partnership assets unaffected by transfer of a partnership interest. The undisturbed basis most likely
leaves the transferee partner with basis different from the seller and from that interest s share of the
partnership s inside basis. As an entity, the purchaser obtains fair market value basis in the
purchased interest, but not in his share of the partnership s assets. Consequently, if the

Impact Of Communication Technology
Computer Programmer
How has communications technology affected this career in the past? Communication technologies
has affected computer programmers in the past because the first programmers were trying to
create a program for calculations to more easily do math. The first programmer was Ada King,
moreover she wrote the first algorithm to be carried out by a computer from 1842 1843. The first
computer was not electric, but all mechanical. Since then computer programmers have been
creating many software s to enhance communications technologies. Around 1889 1896, Herman
Hollerith created the tabular and keypunch system to process information and had also created a
control panel that could allow the tabular and keypunch system to preform different tasks. He
founded the Tabulating Machine Company in 1896, which later became IBM. Communications
technologies was vital during World War II. During the war the first digital and programmable
computers were used. They were known as Colossus, and their purpose was to decode encrypted
messages from the Germans. In 1947, the first bug in computers was reported by Grace Murray
Hopper, it was an actual bug as a moth had flow into the Mark Aiken II Relay Calculator. It had
to be debugged . By 1949, the Electronic Delay Storage Automatic Calculator was created and was
known as the first programmable computer with practical storage. It could calculate lists of prime

How Did The Unfit Emperors Lead To The Fall Of Rome
The Western Roman Empire was one of the greatest Empires of the world
In the Western Roman Empire politics was the first contributing factor the fall of it. One of the
many reasons is because of their unfit emperors. They had many. The ones who were unfit, were
greedy and used cruelty to control and keep control of their empire. Not all showed the ability to
be the emperor, some of them inherited the throne, and some of the people who did had a
mentally unstable personality. Some Emperors were assassinated by their Praetorian Guard for
position or money. Once the Praetorian Guard assassinates the emperor, if they had a leader their
leader would become the emperor. As a result of the unfit emperors civil wars broke out across
Rome. Legions fought one another. The citizens of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the fresh water supply. This was a very smart thing for the Germanic tribes to do because you can

Analysis Of A Political Cartoon, By Marc Murphy
This a political cartoon made by Marc Murphy that address both black history month and
Journalist Laura Ingraham s remark to basketball player Lebron James. Murphy put this cartoon
together to show the similarities of Ingraham s comment and the bus racial struggle in the 50s.
Lebron James was having an interview and discussed many things such as family, personal growth
and the racial issues he had encountered (his home was graffitied with racial slurs). Ingraham had
a very interesting response to his interview. She called him Barely intelligible, ungrammatical, and
ended up telling him to Keep the political comments to yourselves. ... Shut up and dribble. The
other half of this political image says shut up and sit back there which refers to the struggle of bus
sitting in the 50s. African Americans were forced to sit in the back of the bus while whites could sit
in the front. These two events are tied together with the image of shackles representing the
restrictions many African Americans face in America. Furthermore, it has more of impact because

Seraphina Poem Analysis
In the land of Novyd lived a bard named Spero, who always wore his heart on his sleeve. He
traveled from court to court, charming the nobles with his songs and poems about love. In each
court, Spero longed to meet the love of his life: he pursued any woman who caught his eye,
offering them a piece of his heart in exchange for their affection. One evening in the castle
courtyard, he came across a noblewoman surrounded by her handmaidens. They trembled in her
presence, scampering away like frightened rats once she waved them away. She was Seraphina,
the fairest lady of the court. No man could win her over. Nonetheless, Spero was determined to
woo her. He spent the next few days picking the most vibrant flowers in the garden: blue... Show

When he returned, the whole court marveled at sight of his kaleidoscopic bouquet, including the
woman, who introduced herself as Lyra. Spero sang his song for her, not a note out of place, then
handed her a piece of his heart. She accepted with delight. The next few days passed without
incident. They were a happy couple, smiling and holding hands at every opportunity. The bard
found himself performing better each night on stage and in bed for his new love ignited all his
senses. But one night, Lyra came to him in tears. I ve lost the piece of your heart, she cried, if
you will give me another, I promise I shan t lose it. And so Spero did, for he knew that lovers
ought to forgive each other. He felt himself grow weaker as he gave her a new piece, but he
wanted nothing more than to see Lyra happy. A couple of days passed and she lost another
piece, and another, and another, until Spero finally drew the line. His voice was hoarse as of
late, and he could no longer sing as well as he used to. I cannot give you any more pieces of my
heart, he said. You do not value it enough to take care of it. Lyra was hurt by his words, but knew
that her chances of being forgiven were spent. She gathered her belongings from his bedchamber
and bade him a tearful farewell. After giving a weak performance for the court, and enduring his
audience s painful silence Spero decided to stay and

Analyzing Cain s The Garden Of Eden
God creates everything, from plants to animals, from bacteria to cells, and blesses all he makes
and tells them to be loyal and to reproduce. God sees how everything he made is good. He
finishes all of his creations on the sixth day. God has a loyal, bold, and mature character. He has
created Earth and made living creatures which can lead to the foreshadowing of the creation of man.
God sits back and sees what he has made. He blesses the seventh day in which he has officially
finished his creations. He then makes man and places him in the Garden of Eden , where
everything he needs to survive has been given to him. Later on he decides that a man needs a

Inferencing: Maybe God denied Cain s offering because it reminded him that his creation,Adam,

вћў Monitoring product or service markets so that strategies conform to the needs of the markets
at the current stage of evolution. The strategies in business level are: 1) Cost leadership strategy
The cost leadership strategy emphasizes having the lowest costs, not necessarily the lowest
price, in a market. A firm attempting to realize a low cost strategy should stress resources that
facilitate efficiency. A firm that has successfully achieved a low cost position will have the
lowest costs relative to competitors. A firm can use such a position to either lower its prices and
gain market share and sales from rivals or keep its prices at the present market level and make
relatively more profit per unit sold. The key idea is that cost and price are independent choices,
and this strategy is focused on cost. 2) Differentiation The differentiation strategy focuses on
developing a unique product or a perception of a unique product that customers are willing to pay
a premium for. If a firm is not receiving a premium price for its goods or services it is not a
differentiator. A firm seeking to follow a differentiation strategy should attempt to develop and
enhance its resources that promote customer responsiveness, quality, and/or innovation. Note that
costs are still important to a differentiator because it is possible that the costs of making the product
unique will be greater than the premium consumers are

Essay On Puppy Mill
When you are seeing the adorable puppy in the window of a pet store, flea market or even on the
internet you should just ask yourself where exactly are these puppies coming from? Roughly 90
percent of puppies in pet stores get them from puppy mills. What exactly is a puppy mill? Puppy
mills are commercial breeding facilities that mass produce dogs for sale through pet stores, or
directly to consumers through classifies ads or the internet. It is important to know that, in
many cases, puppy mills are not illegal. In most states, a breeding kennel can legally keep
dozens, even hundreds, of dogs in cages for their entire lives, as longs as the dogs are given the
basics of food, water, and shelter. The federal Animal Welfare Act passed in 1966, requires
breeders who have more than three breeding female dogs and sell puppies to pet stores or puppy
brokers to be licensed and inspected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In most cases, the
standards that breeders are required to meet by law are extremely minimal. In puppy mills,
female dogs are bred about twice a year until they can no longer produce puppies. Mothers and
their litters often suffer from malnutrition, exposure, and a lack of adequate veterinary care. Most
of them are bred far too early, before it is safe. Not only is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Essay On Communities In Contact
Communities in Contact:
How Conflicting Ideals Can Shape a Community
If we do not have contact with others, would defining who we are even be necessary? The answer
is no. If there were no other groups in which we communicated with, we would not need to separate
ourselves. It is through interactions with other groups that we decide what will distinguish us as a
people. This can mean the absorption of another s ideals or the complete rejection of them. Either
way, the contact is necessary for defining every community. Contact with other communities, be it
trade such as clothing between the Ottoman and English empire or spices from India to Rome or
political alliances such as Ghana and Mali, is a pivotal part of determining who a community ...

these two concepts were linked to a negative connotation. In her piece detailing the spice trade,
Pollard even goes so far as to call it the offense of magic . This association suggests the Romans
did not strive for excess or luxury and instead valued a hardworking, practical life (though their
definition of such a life was most assuredly different than current ideas). Beyond just establishing
societal values, this open trade allowed for a growth in the economy and in literature. Many
authors went to write stories based on these spices. They wrote of witches and mages that used
these herbs to cast dreadful spells. Art is a physical expression of a culture and literature is
considered under the category of art. These works that defined the culture would not have been
possible had the Indians never opened the spice trade. Mali is an empire that, according to legends,

Cross Cultural Beliefs About Afterlife
Cross Cultural Beliefs about The Afterlife.
Seminar in Individual Differences and Personality
Abstract
A study of American undergraduates indicated that the beliefs about the nature of life after death
were quite complicated. A 41 item questionnaire produced 12 independent groups of beliefs. Belief
in an internal locus of control and that one s life is owned by God were associated with a more
positive view of the afterlife, as was being Roman Catholic rather than Protestant. The most
common beliefs were that one is reunited with family and friends, that the afterlife is comforting,
that there is Heaven and that the transition is peaceful, all believed by more than 90 percent of the
students. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this method twelve factors were identified about beliefs about afterlife. Three of the major
factors were that 12.1 percent believe in Heave and Hell. 7.9 percent believe in reincarnation and
6.6 percent believed that there ate material objects and sexual desire in the after life. The gender
differences that were found are that men are not less likely to believe in afterlife but they were less
likely to believe in Heaven, reuniting with loved ones, communication with the living and request
for forgiveness before death. Men were more likely the women to believe that there are material
objects, that spirits have human form, that there is pain, hunger, thirst and that rituals carried out
after death are important. The religious differences they found were that Protestant students were
less likely to believe in life after death then Roman Catholic students. On the other hand, Protestant
students were more likely to believe that there is Hell and that forgiveness needs to be requested
to get into Heaven. One of the strengths that this article has is that they provided a broad
hypothesis. It was not specific and that gave them more room to play around with how they want
to test the beliefs on life after death. They basically just wanted to explore from what was found in
previous search on the afterlife and find more detailed data. Another strengths in this article were
the specific questions that the participants were asked about their beliefs in the afterlife. The

Censorship And Its Effect On Society
nformation is one of the most fundamental means by which people can acquire power and influence
in Western society. It is also said that information is practically the most powerful and important
weapon against corruption in the world. Those who have access to sensitive information, by
whatever means either through corruption or unrestricted access, can use this information to
demand bribes and even obtain more information by corruption or hide it from others. Owning that
access and practicing the act of corruption and maladministration will increase transparency and
will also enable society and even media to know and use the right information as the truth will be
covered. The right to know the information and to fully understand society s rightsis a great value
that is not always realised by society, but given the example of the government, the ones who own
more information have the power to hide their own actions and to controlthe information censoring
media. As far as the government is concerned privacy, political and economic information is not to
be shared, therefore they can deny access to it. This type of information is controlled making
society unaware of what is happening. Fortunately, it is a two way role. There are laws to prevent
this from happening and also to give access to the right and non sensitive information. Information
free from corruption is vital for society to know what is happening.

In reimagining Chekhov s story through her own eyes, Oates has allowed her Anna room for a
development that Chekhov s Anna does not have, therefore making her the more psychologically
complex of the two women. Prone to making mistakes, Chekhov s and Oates characters are
sometimes vicious and not particularly heroic; but it is their humanity which makes readers identify
with them as they mature and change over time. Chekhov admirably positions the audience to
recognise how the carefully chosen settings accompany the characters emotional evolution,
together with the development of their affair throughout the story. At Yalta, a vacation spot of
alleged immorality, Gurov and Anna are allowed the freedom to act without the supervision of
their controlling spouses. Moreover, the resort is densely packed with romantic elements the

Success As One Of The American Dream

Success as One of The American Dream When we hear the word success , we often think of
wealth and money. To some people, the embodiment of being success is earning a lot of money. In
fact, the concept of success is primarily based on how much money a person earns. However, each
person views the definition of success differently. One way to define success is something that
has more to do with flash than it does with substance. John Wooden, an American basketball
player and coach view success as a peace of mind which is a direct result of self satisfaction in
knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming (JLP). John Wooden
believes that true measure of success comes simply when someone do the best they can do, no
matter what the outcome is. This shows that some people view success in a way that does not deal
with wealth and money. Success is considered as one of the American Dreamwhich each individual
have at least dream of achieving it at some point in their life. Although this simple word can be
defined in various ways, to achieve success require rigorous hard work, sacrifices, strong
motivation and a wild interpretation of success. Success is an interesting word to all of us, from
the earliest age even to the grave s edge we cannot be indifferent to it. The Merriam Webster
Dictionary defines success as the fact of getting or achieving wealth ( Success ). However, an

Theme Of Empathy In The Cask Of Amontillado
Remorse is a product of a deep regret which is brought upon by empathy, something in which the
character Montresor in the story The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe claims he does not
possess, as he desires to commit the perfect revenge. This paper argues that the em dash used in
the cask of amontillado signifies that Montresor feels remorse for his actions but rapidly
recomposes himself, as the em dash allows him to blame his feelings on account of the dampness
of the catacombs(pg.854). But, in doing so proves that perfect revenge is unattainable, and
Montresor is left to pretend that he is unable to feel empathy.
The em dash in this story suggests Montresor feels remorse but wills it away. But in doing so,
proves that perfect revenge is nonexistent. No matter how deep the hatred may be for Fortunato,
Montresor is only human and as such, his consciousness and empathy take control of him. This
new found realization and remorse is quickly overcome, regaining his composure by stating his
feelings occurred on account of the dampness of the catacombs (pg.854). Thus, the em dash
displays how quickly the entire mood of a situation can change. Montresor was able to swiftly
recover his composure and as a result it would seem as he had no feeling of remorse although, the
opposite is true. His remorse is further shown when after 50 years he said [rest in peace] (pg.854).
Montresor still has some remorse left in him even after this extended period thus his need to ask

Why Smoking Is A Public Health Problem
Why this issue is important to you?
Hookah smoking is an issue because it is a socially acceptable way to consume tobacco,
especially among young adult, due to its attractive fruity tastes and odor contrary to regular
cigarettes. Hookah lounges are a preferable place for many people to smoke, socialize, and in some
cases to study. In my opinion the spread of such lounges could increase the number of smokers, not
to mention second hand smoking. This is unfortunate, especially with the huge progress we have
made in the fight against cigarette smoking, while hookah lounges are getting more popular and
may weaken our progression in this matter. The pictures that were taken show how hookah lounges
are clearly targeting college students by opening across the street from main campus, to them this is
just business, while to others this is an important public health concern.
Why it is a public health problem?
Hookah smoking is a public health problem that is growing rapidly nationwide, especially among
young adults and college students.1 Hookah consumers have a perception that it is less harmful
than smoking cigarettes, while evidence show that hookah smoke contains many of the same
harmful toxins as cigarette smoke and has been linked to lung cancer, respiratory illness, low birth
weight, and periodontal disease. A report from the World Health Organization showed that a
hookah smoker may be exposed to a larger dose of smoke in one smoking session when compared

Microcytic Anemia
Microcytic anemia
The most common type of anemia overall is iron deficiency anemia, which is most often
microcytic. Much rarer causes (apart from communities where these conditions are prevalent)are
hemoglobinopathies such as sickle cell anaemia and thalassemia.
Iron deficiency anemia is caused when the dietary intake or absorption of iron is insufficient. Iron
is an essential part of hemoglobin, and low iron levels result in decreased incorporation of
hemoglobin into red cells. In the United States, 20% of all women of childbearing age have iron
deficiency anemia, compared with only 2% of adult men. The principal cause of iron deficiency
anemia in premenopausal women is blood lost during menses. Studies have shown that iron
deficiency without anemia causes poor school performance and lower IQ in teenage girls. In older
patients, iron deficiency anemia of often due to bleeding lesions of the gastrointestinal tract; fecal

The hierarchy mechanism was also flawed because, Otto s brother, Herman Schell lacked proper

had to be overseen by one person, without support. Within a control organization there is also the
notion that work is mainly to get a fair day s pay for a fair day s work; managers see workers as a

Why Shouldn T The Gold Standard Be Legalized
The one item that people obsess about day in and day out is money. Our currency runs the world
and the choices we make. However, before the standard federal reserve notes, gold was used in

today whether or not the gold standard will ever return. The gold standard was created to

The World Trade Center Buildings
Numerous reasons and possibilities circulate through out the world as to if the United States
government had ties to the happenings on September 11th, 2001. Evidence to dispute 9/11 being
an inside job quickly began to go viral, especially on the Internet. False flag terrorism became a
widely debated topic to go along with the conspiracies. Theorists believe that bombs demolished the
World Trade CenterBuildings, the phone calls from the planes were a hoax, or George W. Bush
who was the current president at the time financially benefited discreetly from the attacks
(NewsOne Staff 2012) As a final point, there is evidence to believe the United States government
had responsibility in the attacks that took place in 2001.
Right before the terroristic effects of September 11th, unknown investors allegedly used foresight of
the 9/11 tragedies events to scam on many markets globally including but not limited to an
astounding amount of put options placed to belittle the same airlines hijacked during the attacks
(NewsOne Staff), and WTC tenants and re insurance companies based in Chicago and London.
Furthermore, suspicious monetary transactions valued at hundreds of millions of dollars were
administered through offices at the Twin Towers during the actual attacks. The German firm,

The Death of the Auteur Essay
The Death of the Auteur
2
The concept of author is originally derived from the Latin word for authority. From the theoretician
s standpoint, the author carries power over the text only to the extent that the ideas and scenarios
within it are originally those of the author. French literary theorist Roland Barthes argues that the
function of an author is to provide the semblance of originality and meaning in The Death of the
Author.
Writing is the destruction of every voice, of every origin. Writing is the neutral, composite, oblique
space where our subject slips away, the negative where all identity is lost, starting with the very
identity of the body writing. (Barthes 1466)
The basis for Barthes argument is the writing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Saussure 972 977)
Everything that has been said up to this point boils down to this: in language there are only
differences. Even more important, a difference generally implies positive terms between which the
difference is set up; but in language there are only differences without positive terms. Whether we
take the signified or the signifier, language has neither ideas nor sounds that existed before the
linguistic system, but only conceptual and phonic differences that have issued from the system.
(Saussure 972)
The application of this idea to Barthes work is in the very essence of the idea of the death of the
author: the rejection of the assumption that the ideas we commit to a certain name are the product
of solely their own conjecture and its manifestations.
As soon as a fact is narrated no longer with a view to acting directly on reality but intransitively,
that is to say, finally outside of any function other than that of the very practice of the symbol itself,
this disconnection occurs, the voice loses its origin, the author enters into his own death, writing
begins. (Barthes 1466)
4
Saussurean logic continues on this theme to the extent that the arbitrary nature of the sign is
indicative of the situation of an individual that operates within the linguistic system, and their
helplessness and passivity in relation to the signs that compose their

Wound Cleaning Research Paper
When the majority of the wound is not covered by necrotic tissue (at least 75%) our treatment
should be focused on selective debridement. With this type of removal we will only be working
with the necrotic tissue. Depending on the physicians order we may use this in our treatment.
Another important aspect is woundcleansing. Every time the dressing is changed they should clean
the wound. We should avoid using hydrogen peroxide, soap, povidone iodine because they could
damage the healing process. The recommended solutions are water (drinkable tap or sterile) and
normal saline. We should also consider using syringe irrigation to apply the solution. Finally,
wound moisture is another important aspect we would need to take into consideration.

Question 5. Find at least three countries or economies that have housing policies or measures to
stabilize the housing markets. Provide your views or suggestions on the best measure to stabilize
the housing markets that could be considered or used in Melbourne. In 2013, Melbourne s
population was 4.3 million. By the year 2030 Melbourne s population is set to reach 6 million and
by 2051 the population will jump to 7.8 million. With population growth of this magnitude the
demand on housing will undoubtedly increase. In 2014, in his opening remarks at the Bundesbank

2. Zoning for housing From page 107. States should enact legislation similar to the Massachusetts
model requiring communities to set aside, or allow, a certain portion of housing units for afford
able housing. Under this model localities can adopt local zoning that encourages rental
development in areas the municipality has determined are best suited. If a municipality continues to
have exclusionary zoning, then the requirement would be enforced by developers who can override
local zoning barriers, with appeals to a state run zoning board. Statement by Min Zhu, Deputy
Managing Director, IMF Website access on 31st August, 2014 via: http://www.imf.org/external/np
/speeches/2014/060514.htm Key message: Housing booms have different characteristics across
countries and time periods. What is common is that when the bust comes, it very often damages
financial stability and the real economy. The tools for containing housing booms are still being
developed. The evidence on their effectiveness is only just starting to accumulate. The interactions
of various policy tools can be complex. But all this should not be an excuse for inaction. The
interlocking use of multiple tools might overcome the shortcomings of any single policy tool. We

The Impact Of The Space Race
Did you know that the Soviet Union was the first to launch something outside of Earth s orbit? In
the 1960 s, the Soviet Union speed up the advancement of space science, faster than the United
States ever could, during the Space Race. First of all, they were the first to start the Space Race
and continually kept going onward to try new concepts and/or more concepts. On the other hand,
the Soviet Union were more focused on witnessing who s better. Finally, the Soviet Union were the
ones who sent multiple of inventions into space, but still had a bunch of trial and error and learned
what worked and what didn t work.
To begin with, the Space Race began all because of the Soviet Union and they kept pushing on to
create and carry out with their objectives, meanwhile the United States was doing nothing. In an
article, United States Soviet Cooperation during the Cold War nasa.gov. Erika Vick, May 28, 2008.

Sputnik I. In the late 1950 s they launched Sputnik I, which created the Space Race and it
continued into the 1960 s, where the Soviet Union and the United States tried beating each other. If
the Soviet Union started it, they should earn a little credit for giving the space science a
tremendous advancement. For example, in an article by Global Security website, it says, When

American Military Aviation in the 20th Century
Throughout the 20th century, the use of military aircraft often took part in deciding whether a
battle or war was lost or won. The United States has been marked as notorious for successfully
applying their military aviation strengths to early and mid 20th century warfare. The strategic B 29
Superfortress bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki forced Japan to surrender, allowing the United
States (and Allies) to claim victory, ending World WarII. In the Korean War, US military aviation
proved victorious as US fighter pilots were better equipped and trained, dominating their Chinese,
North Korean, and Soviet Russian opponents. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of military aircraft proved greatly beneficial for the United States as they faced a two
front war in the Pacific and Europe. Utilizing their vast human and industrial resources to
develop and construct systematic uses of air power, the US achieved victory in honorable
triumph over Germany and Japan. During World War II, the world battled in a race for
dominance in the air, with the US arguably finishing first. U.S. factories produced overwhelming
numbers of fighter and bombers, and in both Europe and the Pacific, aviation proved crucial in
tactical and strategic roles. The nature of air warfare was remolded due to the technological
leaps and performance and armament of aircraft. The US began to experiment with new building
materials for planes that surpassed many other nations such as Japan and Britain. Paper and
wooden planes were a thing of the past for the most part in the beginning of the war. Titanium and
Aluminium wings and fuselages were slapped onto new developments such as the P 51 Mustang
and P 47 Thunderbolt. In addition, new armaments were added to new aircraft such as M2
browning machine guns that proved effective against paper and wooden made Japanese fighters
and bombers. These advances allowed more air dominance against German and Japanese enemy
aircraft, causing World War II to heavily fall in favor of the United States and the

  • 2. Turtle All The Way Down Essay Questions Throughout Turtles, All the Way down John Green continually conveys AzaВ ґs deep internal struggle with mental illness and anxiety as something only Aza can comprehend. Although many people in her life attempt to empathize, understand and support Aza throughout the book, they can never actually experience AzaВґs Brutal internal battle with anxiety. A primary literary device used to portray AzaВґs profound internal and external struggles effectively is conflict. Aza struggles with a plethora of conflicts throughout the book. One impulsive decision in the book is when as drinks hand sanitizer, this hasty decision caused by her thought spirals isn t only healthy but insane. When Aza makes the utterly careless decision to drink hand sanitizer, she... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dominant Motif I noticed over and over was when Aza would continuously open the scab on her finger and meticulously examine the finger for infection and signs of disease. When Aza begins to think about her finger she gets utterly impulsive. For example a quotation on page 6 states ВЁOnce I start thinking about splitting the skin apart, I literally can not do it. I apologize for the double negative, but it s a real double negative of a situation, a bind from which negating the negation is the only real escape.ВЁ This quotation represents that Azas impulsive actions lead to repeated stress and anxiety. Azas anxiety as a significant aspect of the book, her anxiety creates problems that are only comprehensible to her. A significant problem that her anxiety causes that ordinary people don t have to deal with is her constant impulsive actions like opening and closing the callus on her finger every time she thinks about it. The difference between Aza and her family and friends is that when Aza is thinking about a particular action or a consequence of action the thought of the action or consequence halts in the middle of her brain. People in Azas immediate circle struggle to grapple Azas never ending fight with anxiety because they have never experienced that kind of pain and uncontrollable thoughts. That inevitable to uncontrollable subconscious impulsive actions, which are detrimental to AzaВґs health and emotional well being. I see Aza as an addict, and her addiction is to open and to close the callus on her finger. And when she hasn t checked her finger in a while, she begins to go insane like a Heroin addict without ... • 4. The USA Patriot Act Analysis The coordinated terrorist attacks of September 11th attempted to shake the foundation of American democracy and changed how Americans viewed terrorism. No longer was terrorism an issue of distant countries, the aftermath of the terrorist attacks left the American people searching for answers to prevent another attack on the homeland. Signed into law less than six weeks after the September 11th attacks, the Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act (USA PATRIOT Act) of 2001 sent a strong message to American citizens and the rest of the world that the United Statesgovernment was prepared to amend laws in order to combat both foreign and domestic terrorism and ensure public safety. Problem The hastiness of its inception caused the USA PATRIOT Act to be deemed unconstitutional by the public court of opinion. Many citizens feared it was a knee jerk reaction to an attack that came without warning. However, the USA PATRIOT Act is constitutional and an effective counter terrorism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Michael McCarthy argues the USA PATRIOT Act of 2001 provided a comprehensive approach to a new threat on the United States. Passed with overwhelming support, the haste was considered essential by law enforcement officials seeking to prevent further attacks feared to be imminent (McCarthy, 2002). In analyzing the key aspects of the USA PATRIOT Act, McCarthy states the Act provides a balance between the strengthening of the executive branch and the necessary checks and balances of the legislative and judicial branches. These checks and balances help to protect individual rights while ensuring national security. One of the most important checks was placing a sunset timeframe of four years on key powers dealing with executive discretion. In doing so, the legislative and judicial branches ensured continued oversight over the Act and protection from abuse of power from the executive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Socioeconomic Status In America In the United States, obtaining a higher education is more important than ever. The income gap between a family of college graduates and a family of high school graduates grew 30,000 dollars in just three decades (Porter). Institutions of higher education are engines of upward mobility that is not afforded to the entire population. American society is still plagued with racial disparities; however, they are no longer the main divider separating Americans. Today, the most imminent danger to the American dream is socioeconomic status (SES). The Organisation for Economic Co operation and Development (OECD), an intergovernmental economic organization, found that when it comes to academic achievement, SES has more influence in the United States ... • 6. Public Diplomacy And Nation Branding Ask anyone what they think of when they hear the word Russia these days and you re likely to elicit one of two common responses: Did you hear about their doping scandal or did you hear about what their president said, the latter usually referring to the enigmatic personality that is Vladimir Putin and a series of nuclear tests that seems to foreshadow World War 3. Russia has actually been behaving remarkably well in the past few years and appears to be trying to change the world s perception about the nation, which is why it is so disappointing that they have been reduced to these two headlines. Sports diplomacy is one of many spheres of public diplomacy and nation branding that Russia has been investing heavily in. Aimed not only at developing a positive image of Russia, but also at fostering and developing relationships with post conflict nations, Russia s public diplomacy is certainly key to their national interests. Before the aforementioned headlines were released Russia was actually using sports diplomacy in nation branding incredibly well, be it the winter Olympic Games in 2014, the new Russian Formula 1 Grand Prix, or the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup. These events show a remarkable effort by Russia to drastically change its international image, with the Sochi Olympic Games being the best example. • 7. Eugene Victor Debs Research Paper It seems our country has always had a want for radicals who are captivating, and so it would us do well to recall the likes of Eugene Victor Debs. Debs was what every socialist or revolutionary or activist should be: intense in his principles, as well as sympathetic and compassionate in his personal relations. Debs looked at the working class struggle not as a scholar, but instead as one who was directly entangled he provided assistance by giving a voice to the great effort, or as he told an assembly of Philadelphia workers, I look into your faces. I catch your spirit. I am simply the tongue of the working class, making this appeal from the working class. Debs was clear about which war he was equipped to fight: I am not a capitalist soldier; I am a proletarian revolutionist.... I am opposed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He embraced trade unionism gradually, and Socialism with even greater hesitation. As an organizer for the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen in the 1870 s, Debs preached Christian moral inspiration and opposed strikes as a threat to labor management harmony. Before declaring himself a Socialist in 1897, Debs went through various ideological incarnations, from Democratic Party politician to free silver Populist. Debs was a Socialist of a deeply practical bent, who deplored the insurrectionary rhetoric of the Wobblies and helped build The Socialist Party. Debs linked the struggle for the people do not wholly ignore industrial democracy of life. His devotion to the cause was unquestionable, but what began to make Debs truly memorable was his giving nature, a passion for identifying with the lost, the desperate, or underprivileged. He became known for simple Christ like acts of generosity, such as presenting clothes from his own valise to those in need, or making impulsive gifts of money. • 8. David Hume and Future Occurrences Essay David Hume, in An Inquiry Concerning Human Understanding, discusses how we cannot predict the future. Even though our experiences and our reasoning tell us that objects act in a predictable way, we still cannot prove how objects will act in the future based upon previous interactions. After biting into a piece of pizza we expect an enjoyable taste. This enjoyable taste is expected because our past experiences have proven this to us. Even though we think we can predict that the pizza will act the same as our previous experiences, it may just blowup upon biting. Hume explains that there is no way to predict the future based on our previous experiences and reasoning and I will explain the logic he uses to prove this. To start, Hume makes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of a matter of fact is that my name is Josh Peete. I could have been named something else like John Doe and I still would be the same object. The contrary of every matter of fact is still possible, because it can never imply a contradiction and is conceived by the mind with the same facility and distinctness, as if ever so conformable to reality. (500) So the opposite of a matter of fact can be true. The piece of pizza that I bite into could explode in my face even though I had never experienced that before. Matters of fact, or knowledge learned through experience, cannot prove how objects function. People believe in matters of fact because they have some other reason for doing so. All reasoning concerning matter of fact seems to be founded on the relation of cause and effect. By means of that relation alone we can go beyond the evidence of our memory and senses. (500) I have a firecracker and a lighter. The cause for the firecracker to explode would be me lighting the fuse. The effect of me lighting the fuse would be that the firecracker explodes. These claims are called causal claims and they explain the cause and effect relationships of objects. Hume uses the example of someone on a desert island who finds a watch. The person on the island concludes that the effect of a watch being on the island is a cause of a human once inhabiting it. His reasoning though may be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Carl Sandburg Research Paper Carl Sandburg; a 20th century American Poet, once defined poetry as ...the opening and closing of a door, leaving those who look through to guess about what is seen during that moment. Sandburg attempts to suggest that an experience can be expressed by a poet via the way language is used. Many writers are influenced heavily by the political, social, and environmental situations that they ve experienced, which may need to be known to the reader to fully understand what the writer is trying to communicate through their works. Langston Hughes was initially recognised as an important literary figure in the 1920s, a period commonly referred to as the Harlem Renaissance which was based in Harlem, New York City. During this period there was an exceptional amount of black writers that were emerging such as Countee Cullen, Claude McKay and Langston Hughes. This literary period is best known for its use of blues and folklore in many famous pieces and the African American writers that emerged during this time. Hughes was very active in social and political causes, He often used his poems as a medium for cultural protest. • 11. Tampa Bay Case Study Heading into this season, there were a lot of question marks surrounding the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Would quarterback Jameis Winston take a step forward in his second season as the Buccaneers starter? What type of production would the Buccaneers get out running back Doug Martin, who they re signed over the offseason to a five year deal? Finally, could first year head coach Dirk Koetter lead Tampa Bay to the playoffs? Fast forward to Week 12 and it seems like all those questions have been answered, as the Buccaneers are playing exceptional football with a chance to not only make the playoffs, but win the NFC South. In the first four games, Winston only completed 58.2 percent of his passes for 1,109 yards, eight touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Also during that span, he was sacked 10 times. Winston s worst game during the first four weeks came against the Arizona Cardinals on the road in Week 2. Winston and the Buccaneers were overmatched by the Cardinals and it showed as he threw four interceptions and was sacked three times. Tampa Bay went on to lose that game 40 7. However from Week 5 on, Winston has played better football and it s a reason why they are 4 2 in their last six games. In the last six games, Winston is completing 62.2 percent of his passes for 1,572 yards, 12 touchdowns, and only two interceptions. • 12. Descriptive Essay On The Wrecking Ball The Wrecking Ball The crowd screamed and surged as they looked up at the gleaming escalator. He descended proudly, nodding approvingly at their expectant and trusting faces. All of their dreams and hopes came down with him, reaching the high point as he stepped off at the very bottom. Over in the expansive ballroom, just beneath the majestic chandelier, hang his best surprise yet. The wrecking ball swayed slowly and gently, waiting to pick up some speed. He knew it was right there, but for now, he would work the crowd. When they were all charged up into a great frenzy, he pointed at the toy above their heads. Together, they would play for many days to come. He would aim, they would cheer, and on and on it would go. He was going to swing as far and as high as possible. He had many targets. He would hit one at a time, hard enough to knock, flatten, and obliterate it forever. Far beyond the adoring crowd were those others who jeered in spite. He looked over and took aim at the women standing tall. They knew him from before and were sure he was no good. He would not let them ruin his dreams, and so he took aim directly at their heads. How dare they stand their ground against him and his dream? He would show them who was boss after that cherished inaugural. Way over in the trenches, the immigrants toiled for their dreams. He gave them a once over and saw a bunch of crooks. He pulled the lever again and aimed at the busy lot. The crowd cheered yet again as the ball flew through the air. With nowhere safe to turn, the immigrants looked up for help. The ball was getting closer, and they prayed that help would come soon. He was getting even more frenzied, and the brothers and sisters were next. Not feeling included had them taking pause. How well did he know them or care for what they cherished? After pushing them away, he was mad at them now. He pulled and aimed the ball right for their centre. First, he would scatter their faith to end their unity. He would pit one against the other and race to a sure victory. He would call them cheaters and suppress their big turnouts. He would bring doubt to the trusted process. • 13. The Office of Warren G. Harding In the early 1920s, after facing the struggles of World War I, the Palmer Raids, and Wilson s fall, Americans craved stability. Republicans were promising a return to the settled country we once were, and this eventually led to the election of Warren G. Harding, the first Republican president in the decade. One of his first acts as president was allowing people to walk on the White House garden, reassuring the citizens that their government was returning to them after a time of hardship. During his campaign, Harding called for normalcy , a consistent period of peace and quiet, something that appealed to Americans after the time of relentless strain. Despite the scandals, President Harding was successful during his term, as he delivered to the public what he had promised, a return to normalcy and revival, by lowing income taxfor the rich, passing many tariffs, and initiating the Washington Naval Conference. Harding listened to the demands of the rich citizens, in terms of taxes. In 1921, he created the Bureau of the Budget, which provided the government with an accounting of its income, and it eventually helped in assessing past performances and in planning future government programs. This Bureau also allowed the government to decide what is best for the citizens and for the economy very easily. It saved so much money during such a crucial time, as it, for the first time ever, limited government spending. Additionally, Mellon, Harding s Secretary of Treasure, introduced ... A Report On The Energy Project Programme Assignment A During the summer of 2014 I took part in the Energy Project programme, I was paired with a small heating engineering company, Global Celsius solutions. The company had recently developed a cheap, rugged and reliable water boiling system, the Jompy boiler. The system itself took advantage of compact heat exchanger design principles incorporating a high surface area, minimising the footprint of the system without sacrificing overall performance, the boiler was capable of producing water in excess of 70oC within a matter of 5 7 seconds(from my own experience with the boiler). The key would be to ensure that the monthly repayments would remain consistent. After approximately 8 months the Jompy is paid off, instead of increasing profitability of the scheme after this benchmark all excess repayments are invested back into local development and infrastructure (schools, education fees, stationary etc). My task was to investigate potential problems faced by the model and if any companies had successfully implemented like minded schemes. To accomplish this, the potential problems of the model had to be identified in this case one of the main problems involved initiating an honest and mutually beneficial relationship with these Sub Saharan local communities. This came in the form of formulating potential marketing strategies and suggesting forms of engagement towards those who would benefit most from the product. Another of the main goals ... Section 743(b) Mechanics Section 743(b) provides for a special adjustment to the basis of partnership assets to take into account the amount that the buyer actually paid for his interest in each of those assets. The special basis adjustment is intended to reduce the buyer s outside basis and inside basis disparity. This adjustment is deemed special because it is unique to the transferee partner, without affecting the partnership s basis in the assets. Equality between inside basis and outside basis in Subchapter K is central to its configuration. Partnerships are intended to provide taxpayers with an entity carrying a single layer of tax. The inside outside basis equality ensures that result. Absent nonrecognition provisions, when a third party purchases, or receives by bequest, a partnership interest, the transferee s receives cost basis or fair market value basis. That cost includes the partnership liabilities attributable to the acquired interest. Section 743(a) disrupts Subchapter K s goal of basis uniformity by leaving the basis in partnership assets unaffected by transfer of a partnership interest. The undisturbed basis most likely leaves the transferee partner with basis different from the seller and from that interest s share of the partnership s inside basis. As an entity, the purchaser obtains fair market value basis in the purchased interest, but not in his share of the partnership s assets. Consequently, if the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Communication technologies has affected computer programmers in the past because the first programmers were trying to create a program for calculations to more easily do math. The first programmer was Ada King, moreover she wrote the first algorithm to be carried out by a computer from 1842 1843. The first computer was not electric, but all mechanical. Since then computer programmers have been creating many software s to enhance communications technologies. Around 1889 1896, Herman Hollerith created the tabular and keypunch system to process information and had also created a control panel that could allow the tabular and keypunch system to preform different tasks. He founded the Tabulating Machine Company in 1896, which later became IBM. Communications technologies was vital during World War II. During the war the first digital and programmable computers were used. They were known as Colossus, and their purpose was to decode encrypted messages from the Germans. In 1947, the first bug in computers was reported by Grace Murray Hopper, it was an actual bug as a moth had flow into the Mark Aiken II Relay Calculator. It had to be debugged . The strategies in business level are: 1) Cost leadership strategy The cost leadership strategy emphasizes having the lowest costs, not necessarily the lowest price, in a market. A firm attempting to realize a low cost strategy should stress resources that facilitate efficiency. A firm that has successfully achieved a low cost position will have the lowest costs relative to competitors. A firm can use such a position to either lower its prices and gain market share and sales from rivals or keep its prices at the present market level and make relatively more profit per unit sold. The key idea is that cost and price are independent choices, and this strategy is focused on cost. 2) Differentiation The differentiation strategy focuses on developing a unique product or a perception of a unique product that customers are willing to pay a premium for. If a firm is not receiving a premium price for its goods or services it is not a differentiator. A firm seeking to follow a differentiation strategy should attempt to develop and enhance its resources that promote customer responsiveness, quality, and/or innovation. Puppy mills are commercial breeding facilities that mass produce dogs for sale through pet stores, or directly to consumers through classifies ads or the internet. It is important to know that, in many cases, puppy mills are not illegal. In most states, a breeding kennel can legally keep dozens, even hundreds, of dogs in cages for their entire lives, as longs as the dogs are given the basics of food, water, and shelter. The federal Animal Welfare Act passed in 1966, requires breeders who have more than three breeding female dogs and sell puppies to pet stores or puppy brokers to be licensed and inspected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In most cases, the standards that breeders are required to meet by law are extremely minimal. In puppy mills, female dogs are bred about twice a year until they can no longer produce puppies. Beyond just establishing societal values, this open trade allowed for a growth in the economy and in literature. Many authors went to write stories based on these spices. Success As One Of The American Dream Sintya Sintya English 112 09:00 a.m. Professor Wittlake 28 April 2015 Success as One of The American Dream When we hear the word success , we often think of wealth and money. To some people, the embodiment of being success is earning a lot of money. In fact, the concept of success is primarily based on how much money a person earns. However, each person views the definition of success differently. One way to define success is something that has more to do with flash than it does with substance. John Wooden, an American basketball player and coach view success as a peace of mind which is a direct result of self satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming (JLP). John Wooden believes that true measure of success comes simply when someone do the best they can do, no matter what the outcome is. This shows that some people view success in a way that does not deal with wealth and money. Success is considered as one of the American Dreamwhich each individual have at least dream of achieving it at some point in their life. Theme Of Empathy In The Cask Of Amontillado Remorse is a product of a deep regret which is brought upon by empathy, something in which the character Montresor in the story The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe claims he does not possess, as he desires to commit the perfect revenge. This paper argues that the em dash used in the cask of amontillado signifies that Montresor feels remorse for his actions but rapidly recomposes himself, as the em dash allows him to blame his feelings on account of the dampness of the catacombs(pg.854). But, in doing so proves that perfect revenge is unattainable, and Montresor is left to pretend that he is unable to feel empathy. The em dash in this story suggests Montresor feels remorse but wills it away. But in doing so, proves that perfect revenge is nonexistent. No matter how deep the hatred may be for Fortunato, Montresor is only human and as such, his consciousness and empathy take control of him. This new found realization and remorse is quickly overcome, regaining his composure by stating his feelings occurred on account of the dampness of the catacombs (pg.854). Thus, the em dash displays how quickly the entire mood of a situation can change. Montresor was able to swiftly recover his composure and as a result it would seem as he had no feeling of remorse although, the opposite is true. His remorse is further shown when after 50 years he said [rest in peace] (pg.854). Montresor still has some remorse left in him even after this extended period thus his need to ask ... Hookah smoking is an issue because it is a socially acceptable way to consume tobacco, especially among young adult, due to its attractive fruity tastes and odor contrary to regular cigarettes. Hookah lounges are a preferable place for many people to smoke, socialize, and in some cases to study. In my opinion the spread of such lounges could increase the number of smokers, not to mention second hand smoking. This is unfortunate, especially with the huge progress we have made in the fight against cigarette smoking, while hookah lounges are getting more popular and may weaken our progression in this matter. The pictures that were taken show how hookah lounges are clearly targeting college students by opening across the street from main campus, to them this is just business, while to others this is an important public health concern. Hookah smoking is a public health problem that is growing rapidly nationwide, especially among young adults and college students.1 Hookah consumers have a perception that it is less harmful than smoking cigarettes, while evidence show that hookah smoke contains many of the same harmful toxins as cigarette smoke and has been linked to lung cancer, respiratory illness, low birth weight, and periodontal disease. Walton s article From control to commitment in the workplace is a groundbreaking work which advocates that managers evolve from using the control strategy to ultimately adopting the commitment strategy. The discussion below considers his description of a control organization by looking at a case study. The case study which will be put under the microscope for the discussion focuses on developments which have led to degradation in how the workforce is managed at the Slade Company. By highlighting elements of their approach used to manage employees, and then providing examples, it will be clear that control strategy was being used. There were informal groups created and in the case of the group led by Tony Sarto, they interacted mostly among themselves, to the detriment of division and against what was the norm within the company. For instance, when the group did overtime on the weekends, they operated as a team regardless of work assignments (Slade, p.3). The hierarchy mechanism was also flawed because, Otto s brother, Herman Schell lacked proper supervision. This is compounded by the fact that all of the 38 workers in the plating division had to be overseen by one person, without support. Within a control organization there is also the notion that work is mainly to get a fair day s pay for a fair day s work; managers see workers as a variable cost (Walton, p.78). At Slade this was evident in how workers were perceived and compensated. They were paid $1.25 an hour for 60 hours a week and were paid at the overtime rate for hours exceeding then normal 60 hours. Exhibit 5 which is the Plating Room Personnel chart provides a deeper understanding of how management viewed workers as a variable cost. • 41. The Death of the Auteur Essay The Death of the Auteur 2 The concept of author is originally derived from the Latin word for authority. From the theoretician s standpoint, the author carries power over the text only to the extent that the ideas and scenarios within it are originally those of the author. French literary theorist Roland Barthes argues that the function of an author is to provide the semblance of originality and meaning in The Death of the Author. Writing is the destruction of every voice, of every origin. Writing is the neutral, composite, oblique space where our subject slips away, the negative where all identity is lost, starting with the very identity of the body writing. (Saussure 972 977) Everything that has been said up to this point boils down to this: in language there are only differences. Even more important, a difference generally implies positive terms between which the difference is set up; but in language there are only differences without positive terms. Whether we take the signified or the signifier, language has neither ideas nor sounds that existed before the linguistic system, but only conceptual and phonic differences that have issued from the system. (Saussure 972) The application of this idea to Barthes work is in the very essence of the idea of the death of the author: the rejection of the assumption that the ideas we commit to a certain name are the product of solely their own conjecture and its manifestations. As soon as a fact is narrated no longer with a view to acting directly on reality but intransitively, that is to say, finally outside of any function other than that of the very practice of the symbol itself, this disconnection occurs, the voice loses its origin, the author enters into his own death, writing begins. (Barthes 1466) 4 Saussurean logic continues on this theme to the extent that the arbitrary nature of the sign is indicative of the situation of an individual that operates within the linguistic system, and their helplessness and passivity in relation to the signs that compose their ...
