2. The Tragedy Of August 25 By Max Blanck And Isaac Harris
The tragedy of March 25, 1911 was a crucial turning point and important era of awareness of
worker powerlessness during the age of early American industrialization. The fire that consumed
the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory remains a haunting memory for this nation. The fates of innocent
workers sent a wave of grief throughout the entire nation. The victims died as a result of a serious
neglect for safety features within the facility and brought widespread attention to the dangerous
working conditions of factories, which led to the development of a series of progressive
legislation, and provided more stringent regulations on the safety of workers. This essay will use
documents and outside sources to discuss the influence the Triangle Fire had... Show more content

The entire nation was affected by this event, which was mainly due to the mass media s ability to
spread information. Before the incident publishers used their popularity to their advantage in order
to educate readers on the poor conditions workers embraced. Document 4 of The Triangle Fire, The
Story of a Sweatshop Girl, was written by Hamilton Holt who also published The Independent,
another progressive movement documentation. This document covered the way of life endured
by sweatshop worker Sadie Frowne which depicts the hardships she was accustomed to in first
person narrative to allow the reader to understand the immense hardships she faced. She goes into
great detail of how these work conditions negatively impacted aspects of her life. Holt s goal was
to fully engage the reader and capture their emotions in order to stress the importance of these
dangerous and inhumane working conditions. One quote by Frowne was, I did not know at first
that you must not look around and talk, and I made many mistakes with the sewing, so that I was
often called a stupid animal (Doc. 4 Pg. 52). After reading this short excerpt one can see that these
work environments were not only physically diminishing, but mentally as well.
Many of the Triangle factory victims were women, some as young as 15 years old. A majority were
Italian and European Jewish immigrants who had come to the United States with their

3. Justification Of Moral Obligation On The Suffering Of...
What reasons might someone give for caring more about the suffering of people close by than that
of those far away? Do these reasons give moral justification for this stance?
The question that will be answered within this essay asks why, if justifiable, someone might give
preferential care to the suffering of a collective group what are within closer distance than a
collective who may be a large distance away. In this essay, I will offer some reasons for why this
might be, and attempt to find reason to justify them with reference to external material which tries
to find reason and argument about whether this stance can be morally accepted among applied
ethical issues. This essay will be split into two main parts, consisting of two intertwining reasons
followed by my reasoning for justification of this moral stance. I will argue that regardless of moral
obligation I believe that we are more justified to care for people closer by, this will be the primary
argument of this essay.
A reason one might give to only helping someone close, with my assumption that close means
people within the same society or social contract as the person rescuing, is that as agents within this
contract, we have negative rights. Negative rights are liberties that one has, meaning that they are
not obligated, but freely allowed to do something within reason. We could void these negative
rights if we believe they will benefit our society or community, and should be influenced to do so,
but

4. The Shame of the Nation by Jonathan Kozol
I. Analysis of the mechanics of the book. If anyone in the United States were asked, What is the
best part about living in this country?, most people would answer equality . The United States is
built on and known for the equality among its citizens and is often referred to as the melting pot .
After reading Jonathan Kozols, The Shame of the Nation, equality is nonexistent within the
schools he has gone to, and has been employed through. With his travels, expert testimony and
personal stories gathered from the people within the community and schools, he shows the exact
opposite of equality. Minority schools being his main focus, he discusses the inequalities these
students endure and truly opens up your eyes to just how awful these minority schools have it.
Jonathan Kozol is successful in his writing of The Shame of the Nation, and makes himself a
voice for these minority schools that are denied of their voices. The way Kozol chooses to
organize his book is very effective. It has a topical way of organization with a touch of
chronological usage through the book. Instead of just starting right into his points that he strives
to make, he begins the book with a little history about himself and how he ended up in the
position of traveling to these different schools. This is extremely necessary to the book, without it
the reader would have no idea as to why he chose to do his observations and how he came to love
what he does. Knowing that he has the experience of teaching

5. The Issue Of Affirmative Action
On the contrary, supports of affirmative action feel that this law is still needed in America to
help places of higher education have more diversity which will benefit companies in the long
run and it also helps companies be more diverse and it helps them thrive. In the past few decades
the number of minorities and females in places of higher education and companies have been
rising at a slow rate. During 2012, the health care industry was suffering from lack of medical
personal in the medical field; however, 16% of the U.S. population is Latino and 14% is African
American, these groups constituted only 9% and 7%, respectively, of the total U.S. medical
school enrollment in 2012 (Graces, paragraph 2). The rate of minorities enrolled in medical
school has been slowly rising over the years. Having minorities and females in a company helps
the company be more diverse while also giving the company employees that can help the
company thrive and be successful. Supporters feel that this law benefits people who usually would
not have a chance of attending a place of higher education or be a part of a company an equal and
fair chance. Supporters of affirmative action feel that it is positive discriminationand that it benefits
places of higher education and companies not discriminate against females and minorities. A
significant, amount of court cases have been brought up to the Supreme Court dealing with
affirmative action. One important court case that deals with affirmative

There were several cases of disregard of the OECD guidelines by SPDC. There were several
allegations against SPDC indicating that they were worsening the environments of their oil
exploration areas. These allegations include turning Ogoni into a wasteland, several oil spills, and
gas flaring. These actions are contradictory to the OECD guidelines indicating that companies
should contribute to achieving environmental progress. The respect for the human rights of the
citizens affected by their activities was another example for their disregard of the guidelines. There
were allegations that SPDC thoughtlessly allowed infrastructures to operate near the civilians.
Also, Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) indicated that SPDC s oil
exploration led to acid rain, carbon monoxide exposure, and a dangerous farming environment.
Nigerian Culture and SPDC s Crisis The fact that Nigeria did not have a government representative
of the people and the population consists of an extremely ethnic diversity, more than 250 ethnic
groups, has proved to present tremendous cultural challenges for SPDC. Despite receiving more
royalties (90% of the net revenue) than any other country in the world, most of the Nigerian
population lives in poverty. Nigeria declared independence in 1960 from Britain which makes them
a relatively young country. The government, usually a military faction, has been riddled with

Male Dominance in The Color Purple
In the 1900s, the father figure in the average family played a humongous part on the way people
went about their daily lives. Women had few rights and the males were considered the most
important role in a female s life. Often the power held by males were taken advantage of. The
Color Purple is a book based in 1900s and it describes how an average black female went in that
time period. It also exhibits many hardships caused by dominant male roles. The main character
Celie goes through many ups and downs as does her step son Harpo, and Harpo s wife Sophia. In

word to say to me...then he push his thing inside my pussy...I cry (Walker 1). In the very
beginning of the book, Celie is raped by someone who she refers to as Pa. Then, it says that she
gets beat. He beat me today cause I winked at a boy...I didn t wink...I don t even look at mens...I
look at women, tho, cause I m not scared of them (Walker 5). Through Celie s words, Walker
shows one of the first effects in a female s life when a dominant man abuses his power. Celie s
traumatic experiences with men effects her; she is so used to being abused by men that it causes
her to be scared of them. The second effect the traumatic experience caused Celie is numbness.
When Celie gets beaten or raped she describes it as making herself a tree or doing his business and
not feeling anything at all (Walker 23). And, according to the Joyful Heart Foundation, one of the
common emotional effects of rape is numbness and fear (Joyful Heart Foundation). So, when Celie
is beaten, instead of defending herself, she does not do anything unlike other characters in the
novel. Celie tends to act submissive and accept everything that comes to

9. The Piano Lesson, By August Wilson
In The Piano Lesson, by August Wilson, Berniece struggles with her personal connection with the
piano. Her families past reveal her relationship with the piano. The piano meant a lot of things to
a lot of different people over the years. The piano is a complex and multilayers symbol; its
meanings are both personal and political. For example, Berniece was affected by the piano
positively and negatively. She had a sentimental connection with it and never wanted to get rid
of it. But the piano had a lot of history behind it and it also carries a lot of meaning to it. Berniece
stopped playing the piano for a while because of all the spirits inside of it and how they started to
haunt other people. Berniece saw Boy Willie getting attacked by Sutter s ghost and that made her
realize she needs to let go of the past and play the piano again. But what was ironic is that she tried
her best to forget the familyhistory that came with the piano, she can never let go of her families
past no matter what she does. This reveals that people should come to good terms with their past
and learn to overcome it.
The piano affected her positively because Berniece liked playing the piano. She would play it all
the time for Mama Ola and her daughter learned how to play it as well. It affected her negatively
because it had a gruesome past. Bernieces family would die over that piano. For example, Boy
Charles died in the boxcars in a fire after the piano was found missing. After this tragedy, the piano

10. The Doctrine Of Jesus Christ
Perhaps thou shalt say: The man has brought upon himself his misery; therefore I will stay my
hand, and will not give unto him of my food that he may not suffer, for his punishments are
just...whosoever doeth this the same hath great cause to repent (The Book of Mormon Mosiah
4:16). This progressive quote promotes social welfare and an idea of charity and love that many
mainstream Republicans today do not support. Believe it or not, this is not a statement recently
made on some left wing political talk show, this is directly from the Gospelof JesusChrist. This
same message is echoed throughout all the books of scripture. The doctrine of Jesus Christ
teaches the principles of compassion, equality, forgiveness, tolerance, and most importantly
love; the political ideology that sides with these ideals is on the left. Stephen Colbert said, If
this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn t help the poor, either we have to pretend that
Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we ve got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love
the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don t want to do it.
The teachings of Jesus Christ do not contradict liberal beliefs, therefore we, as His disciples, should
be more open to non conservative political ideals. For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat: I
was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in (King James Version
Matthew 25:35). This verse emphasizes one of Christ s

Alcohol not only kills brain cells, but when taken in profusion it has almost no constructive affects.
Sure it can make one overlook his/her problems, but the consequences of drinking in excess far
outweigh the benefits. It is not a crime to get drunk, however alcohol will almost always cause one
to conduct them self in a way he or she would not normally behave. For instance, a sober man will

The abuse of alcohol over long periods of time may also cause diseases such as cirrhosis, acute
alcohol hepatitis, and the most severe liver disease. Cirrhosis is a disease in which the liver
becomes so scarred that the patient lacks sufficient healthy tissue to perform the organ?s
functions. Once you?ve got it, you are stuck with it. (Gross, 6) The worst thing about these
diseases is that you will not know you have them unless you are medically examined on a regular
basis. Alcohol consumption is a large contributor to the development of several types of cancer
mostly dealing with the neck and brain. We know that cancer kills and therefore it is safe to say
that in some cases, alcohol can be deadly. It is important to realize that alcoholism is a disease. A
heavy drinker will experience the effects of withdrawal syndrome (which include hypertension,
anxiety, disorientation, hallucinations, and seizures) if he decides to stop drinking. Being addicted
to alcohol is similar to being addicted to any other drug in that once one starts using, it is tough to
live without. It is also a ?gateway drug? just as marijuana and other sedatives. (Bennett, Woolf, 13

Heavy drinkers may develop a tolerance or ?immunity? to certain amounts of alcohol. That said the
more often you drink, the more you can handle next time. The human body recognizes alcohol as a
foreign substance and will use every method possible to

12. Theme Of The Fifty-First Dragon
The short story, The Fifty First Dragon, was written by Heywood Brown. He was a newspaper
writer during the early 1900 s, working on several major newspapers. He stated by writing stories
about sporting events, then moved on to war related stories before finally gaining a column to
write his stories in. He has been noted for liberal political views in his essays, although they seem
to be somewhat light in this story. There are two main themes in the story which complement each
other extremely well. This first is that confidencein one s self is key, shown by how the character
performs when he is confident. The second is that relying on an outside object for confidence will
lead to a fall. This point is made clear by how the main character loses his self confidenceone he
realizes that the idea he was getting his confidence from is proven false. The story is a medieval
fantasy, with knights and dragons. It is set during what appears to be the beginning stages of the
renaissance in England. The story takes place at a knight school near London which is
neighbored by a forest which contains dragons. The main character of the story is Gawaine le
Coeur Hardy. His physical appearance is described as one would picture a knight, strong and tall;
however, he lacks any confidence and often hides from anything that might present a threat. He
struggles with his schoolwork and is often forgetful. He is assisted by the headmaster of the school,
whose primary concern is that Gawaine

The Neurological and Behavioral Changes Associated with Learning Music as a Child
Some would argue that humans are intrinsically wired to produce music. As an infant, the sounds
children make while learning language mimic the tonal shape of language. Parents also tend to use
exaggerated highs and lows in their voices much like a simple melody to prepare and help develop
the infant s capacity to learn language. It has also been found that the neural networks used in
language acquisition are very similar to those used in music acquisition (Mithen 2006). Language
acquisition and development is imperative for an individual to survive, and if training the brain with
music can strengthen those networks, this is a subject of great importance. Since the 1940s doctors
have recognized the impacts of music on the behavior of patients with mental disabilities, and from
this discovery, the effects of music on a regular developing brain became a subject of great interest.
Researchers recognized that there was potentially an opportunity to increase brain development in
children resulting in discernable enhancements of skills into adulthood (Reschke Hernandez, 2011).
It is now known that childhood music education improves skills required for playing music, namely
motor functioning, auditory discrimination, and long and short term recall. These skills, learned
through music instruction, transfer to non musical skills such as verbal

His constant use of reflections and vertical framing helps the audience to interpret the change of the
characters identities. Mirrors make for a visual confusion and could cause the audience to question
whether what they are seeing is reality or simply a reflection. Vertical framing and multiple images
of characters create an aesthetic view of characters identity and through film language visually
portrays them as trapped within the change and confusion of the cities identity as well as their own.
The repeated theme of expiry helps Wong Kar waito emphasise the anxiety of the expected changes
for Hong Kong in the 1990 s. His constant referencing to objects and arrangements expiring is
shown through his choice of props and framing devices. The pineapple that 223 buys is an
example of this theme, as well as the plane ticket that Faye gives to 663 with an expiry date of a
year from that point. This constant reminder of expiration reminds us of the countdown to 1997,
the Handover to China. This fear of change is also reinforced through the element of the future and
the fact that the narrator can see outside of the film and tell the audience that things will change for
Hong Kong and therefore the characters lives also, highlighting the characters anxiety and fear of
the change that they are all expecting however having to learn how to accept it.

example of a modern day hero. He is selfless and works as a doctor with the main goal of helping

If you had the choice to be a king, would you take it? The song Viva La Vida, by Coldplay, could
possibly change your mind. The lyrics convey multiple messages about power and how easy it
is to lose it. The public loved the song, and it stayed on top of the charts long after it was
released. Many people who actually paid attention to the deeper meaning of the song learned
something from it. There are many interpretations of the song, but the real meaning is about the
Roman Catholic Church and King Louis XVI both having a lot of power, then losing it all. The
bass guitarist, Guy Berryman, said that the song is a story about a king who s lost his kingdom,
and all the albums artwork is based on the idea of revolutionaries and guerillas. It also

saying I used to rule the world, seas would rise when I gave the word, meaning he was once a

Use of Light and Darkness in Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness
Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness contrasts light and darkness, to represent the civilized and
uncivilized sides of the world. Conrad uses light to represent the civilized side of humanity while
contrasting the dark with the uncivilized and savage. Throughout the thematic stages of the novel,
that is the Thames river London, the company s office in Belgium, the journey to the heart of
darkness and the conclusion, light and dark is used to represent these sides of humanity, but on a
deeper level many assumptions of darkness and light are challenged, with the appearance of light

From the start of the novel, Conrad foreshadows Marlow journey into the heart of darkness
through the use of light and darkness. Marlow s journey to the Belgium company s office, where
he encounters two women knitting black wool. The two women are commonly interpreted of
representing two of the three fates of Ancient Greek mythology who spun, wove and cut thread
to represent the birth, lifespan and death of mortals. This darkness used perhaps foreshadows the
evil he will encounter, something that merely fate may decide. Marlow describes the place as the
city that always makes me think of a whited supulchre , and the city of the dead , thus, white in
this instance is used to represent the exploitation of the company and the true evil, which is hiding
behind the façade of light and progress. Therefore Conrad uses the civilized white to represent
the evil of the dead city and the search for the precious trickle of ivory .
The map in the company s office, and the light and darkness associated with it again demonstrates
and perhaps foreshadows the good and evil, and the civilized and uncivilized side of humanity. .

a person or thing to the external world in its entirety to a spontaneous attitude (Merriam Webster).
However, despite its many forms, in its essence, nature as a concept implicates powerlessness for
individuals. It will always be something that is beyond human control, whether it be the forces that
work around people such as weather or animals, or the innate and uncontrollable characteristics
within one s personality. Nature has control over the world, and one can decide to either fight this
authority or succumb to it. This idea is seen very... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this play, words function as a mask that characters hide behind, while actions show their true
intentions. Accordingly, after the daughters who have no deep love for their father profess their
affection for him in a mendacious display of emotion, the daughter that loves Lear most,
Cordelia, refuses to compliment him, claiming she cannot heave [her] heart into [her mouth]
(1.1.88 89). She decides to rely on the actions of her past to reveal her affections, however, Lear
has yet to accept the value of honesty, so he rails against his youngest daughter exclaiming Let it
be so! Thy truth then be thy dower ...here I disclaim all my paternal care, propinquity and
property of blood, and as a stranger to my heart and me hold thee from this forever. (1.1.110
115). Both Lear s strong reaction and his rejection of truth and honesty reflect his own
insecurities and inability to divulge his genuine nature. Having lived his whole life like a
performance on stage, he feels threatened by Cordelia s rejection of a false grandeur which Lear,
whether he realizes it or not, sees as a personal attack against his own fabricated identity.
Consequently, lashing out from his jealousy for Cordelia s ability to remain true to herself, Lear
acts against his better judgment by banishing her, and foreshadows the ironic trajectory of this story.
As the play progresses, King Lear transcends from a point of supreme power to the lowest and most

In this first articles explains how a farmer from a large dairy farm that is called Brookside Dairy
in Indiana County is adopting new technology that will save money and help the environment by
managing manure from 550 dairy cows. The Brookside Dairy farm has been owned by the
George family since 1781owning about 1,200 acres and with that much land the bills were high
and with 550 cattle they had about 10,000 gallons of waste to spar. In the article Mr. George said

The renewable energy that the Georges produced through the bio gas is set up to offset the farm s
electricity use and/or sell the power at wholesale rates to the local utility. In the article it stated that
the change to bio gas results in less odor causing compounds in manure in a liquid storage system
and the breaking down of manure in the digester changes the organic nitrogen into ammonium
which is when spread on the fields it ll become more readily available when consumed by the
plants allowing for less nutrient runoff. Also reduces weeds appearing in the fields causing less
weeds growing with crops. Another great thing about the digestion process it also reduces methane,

25. Obama s Leadership During the Hurricane Sandy Disaster
Hurricane Sandy is probably one of the most devastating natural disasters in recent human history.
This is no exaggeration, as implied by its status as superstorm and its tongue in cheek nomination
as Frankenstorm. And indeed, there has been a significant scale of damage to property and in
some cases even to life itself. As the President of the United States of America, President Barack
Obama took it upon himself to personally visit the states that were hardest hit, and to offer support
where he could. This in itself may not be extremely unusual for a current president. However,
Obama took time out of a very busy election campaign, which he was by no means certain of
winning, to lend both personal, emotional, and financial support before, during, and after the storm.
Before the storm, the President set aside his drive to win the election to fulfill his duties as
current president, in his own words, to save lives. (Fisher, 2012). For the President, this meant
acting as crisis manager and disaster official by putting the Federal Emergency Management
Agency (FEMA) on alert, ensuring that food and water provisions were in place, and speaking
with all the governors of the affected states to ensure that they had measures in place to help and
support their citizens through the crisis. He also had the difficult task of ensuring that the country
set its political differences aside at a time when these differences were at the forefront of every
consciousness in the country.

Scientists use the Law of Superposition, the Principle of Cross Cutting Relationships, index fossils,
radiometric dating, and the Geologic Time Scale to organize Earth s 4.6 billion year old history.
The Law of Superposition is the law that states that in layers undisturbed rock, the older rocks will
be closer to the bottom and the younger rocks will be near the top. This is a helpful method used
by scientists to organize earth s history. Our Law of Superposition Worksheet showed how there
were different layers and each was a different age. We figured out that the oldest went on the
bottom and the youngest went on the top. This paper helped us to figure out how scientists would
use this to help them. If they found fossils in one layer and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Scientists can uses fossil records to look at the amount of fossils in the population, which can
also help scientists to organize the history of earth and its animals. An archaeologist claims to
have uncovered Group B fossils related to the Group B fossils from the chart above that are 40
million years old, though the archaeologist did not mention the amount of fossils. With this little
bit of information and information from the graph above, I presume that this organism may
have fought for the same resources as Group A and Group C. As the amount of fossils of Group
B decreases, the amount of fossils of Group A and Group C increased. These two groups must
have stopped Group B from becoming successful. The other possibility could have been that
something changed in the environment at around 12 million years ago that was terminal to
Group B. As group B died other groups rose in population. This is not hard to agree with because
this organism has now been recorded to have lived for at least 30 million years, while most
species live up to only 10 million years, according our Geologic Time Scale Model Worksheet
that we did in class. I can also assume that Group B was large at around 20 30 million years old,
because Groups A had a small population at that time. The large population of Group B must have
hindered Group A s ability to thrive. Another

you d probably not like it. In my own opinion I believe that this movie is run on its own
characterization as it IS about stereotypes at school. I d like to start on describing my personal
favourite character of the movie, John Bender (Played by Judd Nelson). John Bender is a
stereotypical Criminal/Rebel complete with Denim Jacket, Leather Gloves and a Bandana. He
talks with confidence as he says what he pleases to either to annoy or anger others for his own
amusement and when he has to, stand up for what/who he believes in. Judd Nelson acted out the
character of John brilliantly as you can really imagine Judd in real life truly acting this way as he
has given such a realistic performance that is both entertaining and true. I believe that without the
character of John Bender, The Breakfast Club as a movie would really be missing that extra punch
that made it such a hit with all his funny comebacks and entertaining scenes lead by Bender. Claire

Magna Carta
The Magna Carta or The Great Charter is one of the most influential documents in history till
date. The Magna Carta inspired many historical documents such as the U.S Constitution and the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The Magna Carta is a peace treaty signed in June 15,1215 between King John and the rebel barons.
The Magna Carta was made because nobles/barons caught King John breaking laws he
established. He was banned from churches by Pope Innocent III. To redeem his reputation, John
took money from barons to help the army, which was against the law. Rebel barons wanted King
John to pay for what he done. So, in May 17,1215, they captured the Tower of London. They made

by him, and the rebel barons wanted to put an end to this problem by creating a peace treaty. The
Magna Carta required that no one including the king himself must not violate the laws.
The Magna Carta is known as one of the first steps taken in England towards parliamentary
democracy. The Magna Carta is a symbol of freedom from oppression. This peace treaty inspired
the Parliament, in England. It also heavily influenced the American Bill of rights, and the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights. It inspired the U.S founding fathers to right the U.S Constitution.
The Magna Carta was made to protect basic human rights. The treaty was also contrived to limit
the king s power. King John had no intention of believing in the agreement leading to the Baron s
war. When the Baron s captured London King John was forced to negotiate with barons and
eventually sign the treaty. The 1215 Magna Carta was not the only version. In 1225 there was a

actually it s a huge investment . Differences in the US schooling system, including more travel

Additionally, there s a sense of ignorance towards gap years in the US. In is common for
American high schools to provide students with counselors and programs to help them prepare for
college. In conjunction with this, AP tests and the SATs are designed to streamline the college
application process; making continuing on to college is a natural and expected next step. Gap

December January 2002 2003, 2003 2004, 2004 2005 (thereafter 2002, 2003 and 2004). SME
surveys were conducted by Riinvest Institute for Development Research and one of the authors
had a leading role in this research project. Samples were selected randomly from the business
register kept at the Statistical Office of Kosova and the Ministry of Trade and Industry (2005).
Interviews were conducted by experienced and trained final year students from the Faculty of
Economics at the University of Prishtina and monitored carefully by the Riinvest research team.
Respondents were key informants, mainly the owner or the general of companies. The response
rate was very high with an average of 96.4 percent. The exclusion of these observations might
lead to sample selection bias, but in our case this is not a concern as the non response rate is
very small (around 3.6 per cent of total cases) and also our sample remains still representative

econometric models of firm growth. The pooled data contains information from three independent
surveys from the period 2002, 2003 2004. An independently pooled cross section technique is
obtained by pooling randomly sampled cross sections at different points in time (Wooldridge 2006).

31. House Of Flying Daggers And Curse Of The Golden Flower By...
Zhang Yimou directed both the critically acclaimed House of Flying Daggers and the visual
masterpiece Curse of the Golden Flower, movies with wuxia influences which are not only popular
locally, but overseas as well. Yimou infuses his films with several themes that reinforce the Chinese
tradition of upholding social, political, and natural norms. Despite their differences and due to their
similarities, House of Flying Daggersand Curse of the Golden Floweremphasize the importance of
obeying authority and maintaining harmony in Chinese culture.
The theme of desire, although different kinds, is evident in both films. A story about three ill fated
lovers, House of Flying Daggers begins with a beautiful performance by Zhang Ziyi. She flits back
and forth lyrically in a show of dance and unmistakable talent. She is not what she seems. The
melodic harmony of the instrumental accompaniment strikes a strong contrast against the phrases
she sings softly, albeit slightly out of key. Zhang, the main love interest, croons about the pursuit of
a single woman by two enemy states, paralleling the conflict of the story itself. The central conflict
of House of Flying Daggers raises several issues. Can a person authentically love more than one
person? What is the cost of romantic pursuits, and is that price worth the sacrifice made?
Unfortunately, this desire that defies the natural order of things, an unconventional threesome, so to
speak, ends only in pain and heartbreak. On the other

The two CEO s we are considering for this paper have two very different approaches, and what
we can only assume is two very different types of organizations. Without knowing the identity of
the CEO for the e mail, we don t get a lot of background on the company they are running like we
do with SAS. It doesn t tell us the actions they have previously taken in regards to the problem,
much about the companyperks or moral, or how long the problem has been going on and it s direct
effect to company production. However, it does tell us a lot about this CEO s managementstyle just
from this message. First of all, this is an e mail. We don t know the meetings that have been
called to address this issue prior to this, but by sending this in an e mail he is making it very
impersonal. The CEO here isn t showing the effort necessary to really get his point across through
the means he chose. They are also very threatening, by deciding to take away privileges such as the
Associate Center and the Stock Purchase Program instead of providing incentives for improvement.
The CEO for this company needs to take responsibility for his part in allowing the culture of his
company to facilitate this type of behavior in its employees. A hiring freeze and a reduction in
staff will cause more work all around, whether specific employees are part of the problem, or not.
This will most likely not be good for company morale or retention rate. It does appear that

Ascending Angel is a fantasy written by Ellen Wefler. This book is an interesting twist on the
classic theme of good versus evil. It includes dark angels or dangels as they are nicknamed. It also
includes archangels and guardian angels.
Unfortunately, I feel that the way Ms. Wefler addresses this theme and iconic beings may be off
putting to many readers. Thus, this is the first issue that I feel needs attention. Everyone has their
own views on angels, demons, and religion. The author clearly voices her opinions in this story. In
the book, one of the archangels makes it perfectly clear that someone who commits suicide will go
to hell. While I know that there are those out there that hold this opinion, I also know that there are
those that this will greatly offend. The archangels also appear to make decisions and act on their
own without consulting the god that is clearly mentioned in the story. I would suggest those that
have clear views on these issues or religion in general might want to avoid reading Ascending
Angel. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Defining Your Business The first step in developing an effective MBO program is to define your
business. Ask yourself the following questions: ! ! ! What business am I in? Is my definition right
for today s market? Do I need to change my business to meet emerging customer needs?
A clear vision of your business is crucial for planning your marketing, product development,
buildings and equipment, and financial and staff needs. For example, a drop in sales caused a
small business manufacturer of metal trash cans to reexamine its product. To regain lost sales, the
owner decided to redefine the product as metal containers and to develop a new marketing plan.
Setting Goals
Long range business goals will be the cornerstone of your company s MBO program. To achieve
these goals, you must have a method to communicate them to your managers and employees.
One way is to bring managers and employees into the process by asking them to help formulate
the company s short and long range goals. If they have a role in establishing the goals, they will
be more committed to achieving them. All goals should relate to and support the long range
objectives for the company. In this way, you can ensure that the goals of all levels of management
are consistent. If goals are incompatible, you may find that employees feel like the middle
manager of a research and development company who exclaimed in a seminar, How can I set my
goals when I don

One pro is, being able to help people. Some are in it just to help people and cure them of their
sickness. Just to be able to help someone is an enjoyment to them. CMAs can work anywhere,
between nursing home facilities, offices, and hospitals of course. Some build relationships with
their patients and some may say that isn t a pro but it isn t good to just be rude and dull to a
patient. It s better to be happy and optimistic around a patient. You can be certified to work in
any state. Instead of being tied down to one state only, the certification allows the person to
work anywhere across the country. You work regular hours. Unlike some workers in the medical
profession: nurses, doctors, etc. CMAs get off at the exact time that s on their schedule, no
overtimes or anything and they know their schedule. There are plenty of jobs. The field is to
grow at least by 23% by 2022. The drawbacks of becoming a CMA is it can be very tiring.
Especially working in a hospital or a nursing home, the patients could be a little too much or
extremely sick and they may need extra care and that may be tiring. Some CMAs should perform
both administrative and clinical duties which can become very frustrating and overwhelming.
Another drawback is the pay rate and the amount of schooling. CMAs typically receive lower
wages than most medical professions and do about the same amount of schooling as doctors and
nurses and doing much more, they don t get much at all. Compared to RNs they make $31,000
less and compared to doctors they make $171,000 less. But most people that go into that field

their inspiration from the past and combine styles to create new designs that are seen as different
and inventive. However, many people argue that so many designers use materials, looks and styles
from the past that they are re using fashionin a continuous cycle and are no longer being original
and creative. I will be looking at fashion designer Gareth Pugh to explain more about the term

and write the novel on a personal level.Suicide intimately affects on average 6 people (11 Facts
About...). Clay thought, No, I can t believe it. Hannah Baker killed herself. (Asher 7). Most people
know someone who killed themselves, like Clay knew Hannah and Jay Asher s relative attempted
suicide. Jay Asher also used suicide to give people a kind of closure with suicide since most
people who knew someone who committed suicide do not understand their reasons for killing
themselves. Hannah stated I hope you re ready, because I m about to tell you the story of my life.
More specifically, why my life ended. And if you re listening to these tapes,... Show more content

Twenty five to thirty percent of people who commit suicide leave a note for example, the late
Robin Williams didn t leave a suicide note.( Suicide Note ). Hannah left thirteen tapes as a audio
version of her suicide note, only for people who she believes harmed her. The evidence stated
relates to the topic sentence as Hannah did what she didn t want to do, she left no suicide note
thinking that her parents would hear her thirteen reasons, but without a link to her parents, it s
like she didn t leave a note at all. Some reasons people leave suicide is To Increase the pain of
survivors by attempting to create guilt ( Suicide Note ). Hannah said. I just looked over every
name every story that completes these tapes. And guess what. Every single event documented
here may never have happened had you, Alex, not written my name on that list. It s that simple
(Asher 41). Hannah was trying to install guilt in Alex when she wrote that part of the suicide
note. Another reason people write suicide notes is To set out the reasons for suicide ( Suicide
Note ). Hannah used her audio version of her suicide note to do this exact thing. People write
suicide notes to express thoughts and feelings they believed they could not say in life, like in the
case of Eduardo Chibas who killed himself on air to protest the communist

47. Kansas First Fountain
The first fountains in Kansas City were for horses, birds and dog serving a practical purpose. In
1883 the Humane Society of Kansas City was established to prevent cruelty to women, children
and animals. In 1904 they built Kansas City s first fountain near the west end of the intercity
viaduct, 3rd and Minnesota. It has a large square pedestal with 4 small pools for dogs to drink
from at street level and a 4 diameter granite basin at a height for horses to drink. The water came
out of spigots in lions mouths into this taller bowl so people could get clean water in their cups.
The overflow went into the street level basins for the dogs. There was a street light on top. It was
moved to 18th Parallel and finally in 1967 given to the Wyandotte

48. Theory of Knowledge and Reason
History is most often associated with past events, other associations being hypothetical :
interpreting what if theories and revisionist history. The human sciences deals with multiple fields,
but those fields all generally include the factor of the human population or the human individual,
hence the name human sciences. It is said that a historian s task is to understand the past, while the
human scientist s task is to change the future. Yet there are counterclaims to these descriptions of a
historian s and a human scientist s task. These descriptions may not be completely true in the areas
of knowledge. In the areas of knowledge of historyand the human sciences, individuals come to
know the task of a historian and human scientist through language and reason. Historians come to
know the past through surviving records and texts. This is the language aspect of history. It is
through the language of those texts, that individuals come to know what the past was like. A
famous example is the deciphering of Egyptian hieroglyphs. Historians came to know what the
hieroglyphs were saying mainly through the Rosetta Stone, an object that contained Egyptian
hieroglyphs, Demotic script, and Ancient Greek in the form of three texts with the same content.
Had the Rosetta Stone not been found, historians may still be struggling to understand hieroglyphs
today. This way of knowing though has flaws. Due to history being learned through records, texts,
or essentially sources of

51. A Basic Overall Assessment Of Pasco County Health
A basic overall assessment of Pasco county health concludes that the county is a moderately healthy
community with chronic illness being a major issue. When comparing Pasco County In the area of
Health outcome to the 67 other counties in Florida Pasco places 45th. The higher the score the
worse the county is. (County Health, 2013) There are two categories that the rankings were broken
into were health outcomes and health factors. Health outcome refers to mortality and morbidity.
Health factors pertain to health risks including factors like alcohol use, access to care and
education. With Health factors Pasco ranked 28th. The rankings vary by a large margin and lead to
the conclusion that the county has relatively healthy.
What I can infer from the statistics found there is a major issue with chronic diseases and other
health factors, which has the potential to lead to a very unhealthy community. The statistics
shows that there is a higher diabetes rate in the county then the average for the state. When it
comes to communicable disease, Pasco has below average contraction. An example would be
Infection with HIV or AIDs, Pasco has around 2.4% while the state average is 5% (County
Health, 2013). While this is a lower number, there are other areas where we are above the state
average. An example of this is the smoking rate in Pasco County. Smoking is widely known for its
horrendous effects on health, in Pasco there is a 26% of adults smoking while the state average is

52. The Significance Of Character Names In The Lottery By...
In a short story that was written by Shirley Jackson, The Lottery, is a short literature that discussed
an annual lottery draw that took place in a small New England town. In the literature, Jackson
presented the event that took place in the small town very summer time of the year, in which one
random villager get chosen and to be stoned to death by the people in the village. As Jackson stated
in her short literature, the lotteryhas been practiced in the small villagefor over seventy years by its
town people (Citation). In this research paper, the project will present the symbolism that Jackson
indicated in the story, the usage of each character s name, objects, the literature location setting and
the intention of the lottery, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example, the citizens of the town who participates in an annual lottery drawing each year
got no consequences from participating in it. For instance, the irony of Tessie Hutchinson life when
in the beginning of the story, she presents herself with a nonchalant attitude toward the result from
the lottery. However, Tessie Hutchinson becomes dismayed and distraught when she realizes that
she will the one who sacrificed herself. Her final words in the story are the evidence of her own
hypocrites, not just for her nonchalant attitude, but also for her willingness to sacrifice her own
daughter life (Yarmove, 1994). Secondly, the objects that are presented in Jackson literature not
only represent the symbolized meaning to the annual lottery but also the religious perspective to
the event. Jackson stated in the literature, the children in the small town have already started
collecting rocks before the lottery took place. Each of these children picked the smoothest and
roundest rocks; the reason behind this rock picking is because the jagged and knife like rocks
would likely kill the lottery winner faster than the smooth one. Also, the smooth rocks would grant
the lottery winner a slower and painful death during the murderous event, and that the children of
the village would easily follow their elderly footsteps. Another object that presented in the literature
is the black box that the old man Warner and his assistant, Mr. Graves drew the lottery from.

53. Emergency Evacuation Planning
ABSTRACT:
Emergency evacuation is movement of people away from the place of accident/hazard immediately
to a safer place. This results in confusion and commotion causing more harm to people in and
around the place of accident/hazard. Thus, planning an emergency evacuation is a complex
procedure which includes routing evacuees, identifying shelters and exits, and designing traffic
control. During such catastrophic events, the evacuation routing models are vital to the evacuation
planning problems. Since, transportation infrastructure is a limited resource both in terms of
directional accessibility and capacity, it is worthy of well planning evacuation routes in advance so
as to ensure a safe evacuee routing decision and efficient utilization ... Show more content on

When a disaster or incident occurs, evacuees start to panic in general and may compete for the
egress routes without considering others if no proper evacuation routes are planned. Movement of
evacuees may cause congestion on road networks in large scale evacuations. However, considering
roadway capacities may severely limit the efficiency of the evacuation, which will naturally force
motorists find ways to divert around the disaster event. People are constrained during an evacuation
by the capacity of the road network, which in turn dictates evacuation times. Evacuation planning
therefore becomes critically important and essential to foster emergency evacuation strategies in
defining feasible evacuation routes and their traffic impact on the existing roadway network for
varied scenarios of disaster events. Without it, an effective evaluation practice would be unlikely.
Such an evacuation planning modelling is a complex problem with routing evacuee behavioral and
management facets, identifying shelters and exits, and designing traffic control. The evacuees must
be routed to safety under dynamic hazard and traffic conditions. Any number of transportation
problems can arise during an evacuation. A central challenge in managing a regional evacuation is
routing people to safety. An efficient routing plan is valuable because evacuations routinely result
in travel demand that exceeds the available network capacity. In emergency planning, GIS is
valuable to provide the data required by the evacuation models. On the other hand, traffic simulation
models have been developed for simulating traveler behavior and vehicle movement process. Thus
this learning module explains the integrity between the GIS and Transportation Engineering in the
real life
