Synthetic Hormone Synthesis
When a drug company representative (we call them drug dealers ) came to my office selling some
prescription drugs, I asked him, Do you carry bioidentical hormones? He said, Nope. I asked why.
He answered, Doc, don t you know that according to American laws, natural substances cannot be
patented? No patent, no money. No other treatment has ignited as many debates and controversy as
Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT). Official medicine proponents including the
FDA, International Menopause Society, American Medical Association, Endocrine Society, Mayo
Clinic, and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists have stated that Bioidentical
Hormones carry the same risks as synthetic hormones, and that there is no... Show more content on

Recently, two branches of government research tried to decide if Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
was associated with the exotic XMRV virus. One group (Harvey Alter, FDA and National
Institutes of Health) found that there was a link. Another group (William Switzer, CDC), found
the contrary 17. If scientists who are using the same methods and tests on the same virus cannot
come to the same conclusion, how could they be so unanimous in a more complicated subject
like Bioidentical Hormones? As for the FDA s decision that the risks of Bioidenticals are the
same as those for synthetic hormones, what are these opinions based on? Did the FDA test
Bioidentical Hormones? Not that I m aware of. They assumed that Bioidenticals work the same as
synthetic hormones, which we know might be in fact harmful. It s like assuming that a one dollar
bill has the same value as a hundred dollar bill, because they re the same size. On the other hand,
proponents of Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy are saying that these hormones are safe
and have almost no side effects. Two French studies published in 2008 suggest that Bioidenticals
are safer than conventional HRT. According to Dr. Kent Holtorf s literature review bioidential
hormones appears to be safer and more potent then synthetic therefore physicians may opt for
biodenticals for now unless new data is available from new studies.

Brutus Was The Noblest Character In Julius Caesar
I think Brutus was the noblest character in Julius Caesar. He was a Roman senator and was the
leader in the plot to assassinate Caesar. The energy behind Brutus was for what he believed to be
the best interest of Rome, at any cost. He was certainly flawed in his reasoning and his
conclusions we not analytical as compared to Cassius. Brutus ran on strong emotion and
conviction. He was convinced that Caesar was not a great leader that Rom deserved and Brutus
wanted to preserve Rome. He felt Caesar would ruin it and by removing Caesar, Rome can be better
off. While Antony and Brutus were at odds, the comment that Antony made in respect of the death
of Brutus is important in the story. I think Antony was noble as well. For Antony to give Brutus

Advantages Of Privatisation Of India
Looking at the present day scenario, many such models have been up and running successfully.
Many projects have reached pinnacle of success. But there is also a need to see this
transformation from the society s perspective and analyse the true costs and benefits for the
country. It is also important since many projects for development of new airports with private
participation are also coming up at different airports all over across the country. On one hand we
can see the business models for the Delhi and Mumbai but on the other, the transformation has led
to a question on the long term effects of the privatisation. There are questions being asked like

This is in stark contrast with what we see outside the country where there is full privatisation,
especially in the USA. Also, most of the operators are under the Build Operate Transfer Contract

Industry is undergoing a transformation that has taken its market towards higher competition level.
For this, major investments are required which is achieved through the process of privatisation.
There are three major economic benefits which can be attributed to the privatisation. Those are
increasing operational efficiency, better management and marketing skills and lastly better
investment decisions.5 According to the (Paper 7), the main benefits which can be attributed to the
privatisation of Airports are: 1.Improved Customer Facilities 2.Better tackling of Externalities

Analysis Of Speak By Laurie Anderson
The book Speak by Laurie Anderson is a book about how Melinda Sordino overcomes the troubles
in her life, and how she learned to speak up for herself. The author uses a lot of archetypes and
allusions throughout the book to add a fuller description to the events Melinda had gone through,
which will help the readers to better understand what Anderson is trying to tell.
When Melinda started her first day of high school, she suffered from peer pressure with her best
friend who had just left her, and everyone had hated her because she ruined a party during summer
break by calling the police. Melinda knew that no one knew the truth, but she was afraid to speak
out about it. Laurie Anderson used the allusion of Rudolph, the red nosed reindeer ... Show more

Moreover, this drawing of the tree is representative of the mind growth of Melinda. For instance,
the drawing was poorly drawn at the beginning of the book, Melinda s pressure and her life were
weighing her down. As the drawing got better throughout the school year, Melinda s strength
and mindset also began to get better as well. If the tree meant to shelter , then Melinda sure
developed a very nice shelter for herself in the end. Laurie Anderson also used allusions while
describing Melinda s trauma. IT sees me. IT smiles and winks. Good thing my lips are stitched
together or I d throw up. (Anderson 96). The book Maya Angelou is written by a girl who was
once raped. The experience is similar between Melinda and Angelou. The audience may not fully
understand what Melinda was thinking during that time, but the book, Maya Angelou, fully
describes the life of a raped girl which gave us a fuller understanding of the situation that Melinda
was dealing with. She also used the archetype of darkness, when Melinda was raped, it was night
time. Darkness represents Chaos, emblem of bad judgment and destruction, for instance, Melinda
was raped in the darkness. This word should give the readers a clear foreshadowing of what will
happen next. The author also used the archetype of coldness throughout the story. For instance, at

Psychotherapy Treatment
In recent years, the stigma associated with mental illness has significantly dropped due to
depression becoming a nationally recognized cause of disability in American s. The recognition of
depression is only one of several mental illnesses that impact the quality of life. In the 1950 s
psychiatric research opened the doors to evaluating alternative treatment options for individuals
with treatment resistant mental illnesses. The use of psychedelic drugs combined with
psychotherapy was evaluated to enhance how patients perceived themselves and how they felt. To
understand the importance of treating mental illness ourselves, we must first understand how just a
few mental illnesses can affect individuals in a variety of ways. Certain mental... Show more content

The studies of these alternative treatments included using the psychedelic drugs Psilocybin, Peyote,
Ketamine, MDMA, and LSD. Psilocybin is the active compound found in Magic Mushrooms
Peyote is a cactus known for producing both hallucinogenic and psychedelic side effects, Ketamine
is an anesthetic drug often used to induce sedation, MDMA is both a psychoactive and psychedelic
drug known for its side effect of altering perception and lastly, Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD)
a psychedelic drug that produces psychological side effects and is by far the most popular.
According to Vollenweider and Kometer, Renewed interest in the clinical potential of psychedelics
in the treatment of various psychiatric disorders (642). has recently regained support after a long
pause in research due to the illegality of psychedelic drug use. The uses of these drugs have
impacted the treatment of various mental health aliments and several studies have shown
effectiveness. Psilocybin has shown effective treatment in patients suffering from Obsessive
Compulsive Disorder, Depression, Cluster Headaches and has been used to reduce Anxiety in
individuals suffering from terminal illnesses such as Cancer. With the use of Psilocybin in

The Importance Of Impression Management
Impression management is an inevitable part of human life. Impression management is a deliberate
and conscious form of desirability ... [that] requires cognitive effort (Uziel 202), or thought. It is
not supposed to be associated with one s actual behavior (Uziel 202), but, rather, impression
management is the image people portray of themselves by the use of behaviors to intentionally
regulate the impressionsthat observers have of oneself (Lewis and Neighbors 470). Patricia M.
Rodriguez et al. claim that people will present themselves in ways they believe will produce
positive rewards and will help them accomplish their goals (403), but different goals require
different self presentations. Thus, people must alter their impression managementin pursuance of
achieving their social objective. Mark R. Leary and Ashley Batts Allen claim that people do not
interact with others but rather make their own impressions of that person (889). In other words,
people go by their mental representations and inferences they make about a person s character
instead of who the person really is. In order to control others impression of them, people may use
manipulation and deceptionin their impression management to present a favorable image of
themselves. As a way to influence the perception of others on themselves, people may use a
strategy of being untruthful in their achievements and behaviors that provide them with a
mechanism to manufacture a positive outward image (Tyler and Feldman

Abuse In America
The two kinds of abuse, physical and mental, can have dramatic affects on every individual.
Physical abuse is typically apparent, and easy to recognize. Slavery in America was considered a
form of physical abuse and it was easy to see through hangings, lashes, and brutality demonstrated
that African Americans were under physical abuse. Mental abuse, however, is often difficult to
argue as bruises do not show on one s arm from constant mistreatment through unequal pay,
educational inequality, and racism. Black Americans continue to face both kinds of abuse and are
subjected to consistent inequality. Because of the tone of one s skin, black Americans receive poor
education and a lower chance for success. Although physical abuse toward black Americans... Show

Due to the history of slavery and wealth inequality, black Americans allow themselves to be
abused. In 1861, when slavery was still prevalent, Harriet Jacobs introduces through the text,
The Church and Slavery, that men, women, and children were taught that they [were] rebellious
sinners...[their] hearts [were] filled with all manners of evil. Although America has come far
from slavery, we still continue to live in a racist country. Our history derives from black
individuals taught that they were not worthy of god, that because of the color of their skin they
were evil. Because black Americans were told that their opinions and beliefs were wrong and
constantly consumed with racist opinion from slave owner, blacks were not able to stand up for
themselves. Black individuals were not able to stop the abuse of slavery because of their lack od
education lack of education and because they were told they were not worthy of god. This kind of
mindset, where black Americans are considered less than, still remains and affects blacks within
the American culture. One may claim that racism no longer exists, but a recent article in the New

In the past females have achieved less well than boys at higher levels in the education system,
then during the 1990 , the girls over took boys at all levels in the education system. The
percentage of females in the UK achieving two or more A levels or equivalent has increased from
20% in 1990 to 42% in 2006. Over the same time period, the percentage of males achieving the
same level increased from 18% to 33%. On the other hand, there still continues to be a large
difference in the choice of subjects by males and females. Even with the national curriculum being
restrictive in the lower levels, meaning both maleand females do the same subjects, when they get

However, its argued that the improvement of females in education could be the result of the decline
of males, therefore making the gap between gender differences not that significant.
Secondly, the interaction between teachers and male and female students. Sociologist Francis
(2000) argues that classrooms are still male dominated and that boys are disciplined more
frequently and harshly by teachers compared to girls. Therefore, it is seen that boys get more
attention than girls as they are disciplined more harshly than girls, leading to girls getting less
attention than boys, also in terms of ethnicity, boys from African Caribbean backgrounds are also
more likely to be disciplined than white British boys. This may result in boys feeling picked on in
school which may result in gender and ethnic differences in achievement.
On the other hand, many sociologists have argued the importance of external factors in influencing
gender differences in achievement. Feminism strives for equality in society for men and women
and has questioned the typical role of males and females in society and challenges the role of
women being the housewife. Feminists have had a great influence on improving girls self esteem
and aspirations. Sue Sharpe s

On Dumpster Diving Summary And Response
Summary and Response Essay
On Dumpster Diving In the essay On Dumpster Diving Lars Eighner describes the wastefulness
of Americans, how they view the poor, and how to stay safe while living the life of a scavenger.
As he travels the streets with his companion Lizbeth he scavenges through dumpsters in search
of the necessities of life. There are many people that are homeless in need of food. The poor do
not have the money to get food. In some cases the higher class poor are is one of the supporters of
the homeless. The rich people themselves also support the poor because they give back to charities
and organizations. These concepts are discussed effectively. This an effective essaybecause it
explains how society views the homeless and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the essay it talks about how people are wasting food and items for no reason. Eighner explains
that concept as he travels into dumpsters every day in search of necessities. In one of his
routinely visits to a dumpster he visits a pizza shop. He said it was his conveyer belt to get food.
When a call is not confirmed by a customer the pizza is thrown away into the dumpster. After a
while the pizza place catches on that someone is taking their pizza from the trash. The next time
he visits the pizzas have jalapeГ±os on them. It was intentionally done because he was taking
the pizzas. That didn t matter though because he still ate the pizza and the jalapeГ±os on them.
Yes Americans are wasteful because we know how good we have it and quite frankly we don t
care. We waste because we can do it without harm. People waste food for no reason at all. I am
guilty for it I have done it ever since I can remember. I did not consider how much I waist, but
my views have completely changed towards the way I waste materials. We all waist somehow but
yet there is poor people out there that do not have anything. In some cases will take what we have
for granted because we always have access to

The Transformative Learning Project At A New York City...
In Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua, college students participate in a service learning project to earn
college credits at a New York City community college. During this international service learning
opportunity, students perform service work and conduct research to examine and address health
and social problems in resource poor communities. Students design and implement health education
skits and workshops, conduct health assessments in local neighborhoods, and work at the local
hospital. Program requirements include a daily journal, evening reflection groups, a report that
communicates the results of student research and a final reflection paper which includes a plan for
future action. The transformative learningaspect involves the student s ability to learn and
understand of the levels of poverty, economic disparities, and health issues within the region as well
as the different factors that contribute to it. Social and cultural factors, structural issues, and
baseline contextual factors all influence the situation that the region experiences. The program is
designed that students experience this condition for the first time and are transformed in the way
that they view and articulate poverty. With the region in such despair, students experience austere
conditions that they ve never experienced and they learn and are transformed in their views of
poverty, poverty levels, and basic cultural understandings of different regions around the world.

During the period 1939 45 opponents within the army posed a greater threat to Hitler and the

Nazi s arguably faced a lot of opposition between the years 1939 45 and not only from the army;
who had the power of keeping up the morale of the citizens due to their military strengths and
integrating part of the Nazi regime. However Hitler and the Nazi s also faced other oppositions,
such as the church which again was a source of opposition based on morale. The threats from the

Although Bavarian Catholics were successful in pursuing Wagner s ban on crucifixes in
schools, the Catholic Church failed to condemn systematic extermination of Jews in Public (as
early as 1942). The banning of crucifixes in Bavarian schools highlighting that the church was
seen as some sort of threat to Hitler s regime and also highlights the use of religion in society.
This caused some uproar and in August 1941 the Nazi s had a policy which was part of the
Aktion T4 programme, the killing of asylum patients. However Bishop Von Galen was motivated
by the attempt to maintain independence and integrity and led to an outspoken attack from the
pulpit. This was regarded as a notable exception from the Nazi s as Von Galen s speech led to the
stepping down of the programme. These exceptions from the Nazi s and more so the acts of the
religious people involved highlighted the importance of religion and also showed a devotion to
Catholicism and not to the Nazi s, therefore emphasising that the church cannot be seen as a real

particularly the youth. Organised attempts to actively oppose the regime were set up. The

Summary Of The Net Imagery In Oresteia
In the Oresteia, revenge drives the characters to act. Although they call it justice, it is not.
Aeschylus uses net imagery to symbolize faith and destiny. When Clytemnestra murders
Agamemnon and Cassandra, the net imagery acts as a symbol of terrible fate. However, then fate
reverse. Now, Orestes is caught in Apollo s net and kills his own mother. Lastly, Athene changes
the meaning of the net from one of chaos to that of order and justice. These uses of the net
imagery help the reader focus on a crucial theme in the play: the superiority of a formal justice
system to one based on the individual quest for revenge by progressively altering the nets meaning
and its affect on those around it.
Clytemnestra s use of the net imagery focuses the reader on the drawback, that is, collateral
damage, of a justice system that is based on the individual quest for revenge by emphasizing the
collateral damage associated with revenge. As she stands over the bodies of Agamemnonand
Cassandra she says: I wrapped in a great net not a fish could have slipped from the shoal (69).
Involving the shoal in Clytemnestra s speech explains that with every revenge quest there are
innocent people who suffer the repercussions. An avenger does not consider the bystanders
surrounding the guilty person. Clytemnestra states that the net was so large that the fish could not
escape the shoal. If the fish s fate is to be caught in the net yet it cannot escape the shoal, that means
the shoal suffers the same

were canvas and wood at the end of the war, they were melted and wood with machine guns.
Pilots lived only for a couple weeks before they caught fire or got shot down. Planes at this time
only went100 mph and only went 10 miles over enemy territory and best of all there were no

Essay about Salome and Cupid
The paintings Salome with the Head of St. John the Baptist, by Guido Reni and Cupid Chastised,
by Bartolomeo Manfredi are both 17th century visual representations of a story. The story behind
Salome is the interesting biblical story of the beheading of St. John the Baptist, as it s title
suggests. The story goes that Salome performed a dance for the king and his guests. Herod Antipas
saw Salome s dance and was so impressed, and drunk, that he promised to give her whatever she
asked of him. After consulting her mother, Salome asks Herod for the head of John the Baptist.
Herod delivered on his promise, and had the head of John the Baptist delivered to her on a platter,
as she asked. Reni s paintingdepicts a contented Salome being... Show more content on

The cool green and grays that surrounds Salome can symbolize her cool, calm, staid disposition,
and almost blasГ© attitude in light of what is before her, the head of a dead man. The two women
in the back left of the plane are wearing more vibrant colors but are muted by a shadow. Salome is
the focal point of the piece, therefore receiving more light and wearing brighter colors than the
other figures in the painting. She and the head of John the Baptist are the only figures that are not
crossed by a pronounced shadow, both are illuminated by the light that extends from the right of the
composition. This value construction puts emphasis on the two main characters, the figures that
hold the most narrative weight.
Goldish yellow, pink and white are the colors of Salome s dress. The yellow in Salome s dress
can be taken as a reflection of her confident and satisfied posture and facial expression. Pink can
symbolize femininity or sexuality, a major factor behind the events of the story. For it was Salome
s display of these qualities, in her dance, that moved Herod so much as to grant her any request.
These vibrant colors also provide contrast to the cool background, with pink (a tint or red) serving
as a contrast to green, further emphasizing the protagonist woman and relating to the viewer her
significance in the story behind the depiction. Similarly, in Cupid Chastised vibrant foreground
colors contrast a neutral background. Mars fiery red garment stands

Writers are found in their office in the morning, and they have afternoons off unless there is a game
or interview that they are supposed to cover. Nights are spent covering an event or interview and
then writing the article for it afterwards that night (Heitzman 44). Sports journalism can be a
difficult occupation at times, but it can also be very rewarding. To help cover games better writers
get tickets for excellent seats at all events they are assigned to, they meet with sports stars and
coaches (if they are not a writer in a small town newspaper), and sometimes you travel abroad to

A sportswriter in a small town newspaper would be one of two employees in the sports section.
The other employee is the editor. The small town newspaper sportswriter collects information
about local teams and games and writes about them. National stories are often taken from

This research paper will examine the concepts of psychopathology, or abnormal psychology and
how it deals with a various set of symptoms or behaviors that manifested by functional
impairments in a person s life. Psychological disorders (e.g. Major Depressive Disorder) and the
causes of abnormal behaviour have been understood by a various different theories and have been
documented throughout historical transformations. Additionally, this research illustrates the Causes
of the Depression, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In just one theory, Burton believed that melancholy could be prevented with a sufficient sleep,
music, healthy diet, and consequential work , as well as having a balanced social life with
friends and family. Moreover, in the period of 18th century, the theory of melancholia, which is
linked to a Major Depressive Disorder, had become progressively more challenged by electrical
and mechanical explanations; whereby, if a person exhibited a gloomy and dark state of mind it
was also proved that the person gave way to a depleted state of energy loss (Girdlera Klatzkinb,
2007). The term depression was derived from a Latin verb deprimere, to press down. Dated as
far back to the 14th century, the term to depress meant to bring down in spirits or to conquer
(AllDisease.org, 2011). Even though melancholia continued to be the leading diagnostic
expression, depression increased its frequency (its usage of name) in the medical field and was
a synonym by the end of its century. The DSM I (1952) (as cited in Girdlera Klatzkinb, 2007)
refers to depressive reaction and the DSM II (1968) (as cited in Girdlera Klatzkinb, 2007)
depressive neurosis, as words that define an extreme reaction to an identifiable conflict or an
internal circumstance (DSM, 2000).
Causes of the Depression It appears that psychological, social, and biological factors will all play a
role into the various degrees that cause depression. Many theorists believe that the depression

Leading A Team Into Change
Change is unavoidable, it is a transformation of one thing into another. In the year 1990, Peter
Senge said that we need to start acting like gardeners and stop thinking like mechanics in order
for big companies to change (Webber, A. 1999). As a leader of an inter disciplinary team, I am
responsible for the rehabilitation of clients into their homes. Our company have just secured a
new contract from the Ministry of Health and needs to widen the scope of its services. As of the
moment, we have 12 staff and the management advised me that we can employ 8 more staff.
Therefore, I need to decide the health care services and the qualities of the new employees that
we will hire. This paper will tackle about leading a team into change. Rehabilitation as defined by
World Health Organization (2014) is a process aimed at enabling the people with disabilities to
maintain and reach their optimal physical, intellectual, psychological, sensory and social functional
levels. It provides people with disability the tools that they need in order for them to have self
determination and independence. Moreover, this also includes the successful and productive
interaction of many stakeholders such as clients that includes Maori and the Pacific Islanders and
family, therapists, doctors, nurses, caregivers, social support workers, psychologists, dieticians and
speech and language therapists. Our company is dedicated to enabling our clients enjoy greater
quality of life, regardless of age,

Malcolm George Lennie Descriptive Writing
Malcolm George Kimberly, a successful CEO of the international enterprise, a young, charming
millionaire who was a frequent member on the list of the New York City s rich, stylish

Example Of Bravery In Beowulf
Theme is the matter of a subject within a piece of writing. Throughout this essay examples of
mesopotamian literature, old english poetry and ancient greek literature are brought up. The
central theme throughout all these epics is bravery. I chose bravery because each one of these
characters risks their lives to save others. The ability to take on life threatening battles is an
extreme form of bravery. Character traits are important to literary elements because they help
the reader get an understanding of who they are reading about. Beowulf is a part of a medieval
tribe called the Geats (Shmoop... Beowulf), he is represented as a heroic figure who puts
everyone else s safety before his own. He was willing to risk his life in order to save the city of
Herot from the evil monster Grendel, who feeds off of the citizens. That mighty protector of
men Meant to hold the monster till its life Leaped out (Beers #23). In this excerpt from Beowulf,
Beowulf is fighting the monster Grendel in the town of Herot. He is risking his life to save all
the citizens he possibly can from this monster who tortures this town daily. Grendel escaped, But
wounded as he was could flee to his den, Only to die, to wait for the end Of all his days. (Beers
#24). Beowulf was able to defeat Grendel after putting up a hard fight. Grendel flees from Herot
back to his home to die. The morning after the victory the townspeople cheered on Beowulf
(Shmoop... Beowulf) for saving them and honored his bravery for

Meanwhile, the overall price level dropped by about 1/3. Many people blamed the crash for the
economical collapse. Some people held responsible were President Hoover, brokers, bankers, and
businessmen. The cause of the depression cannot be linked to one individual or even a group of
people. It is also unlikely that the crash of the market would have been large enough to lead the US
economy into the depression and to sustain the downward spiral in business activity. (1929В…)
Why People Invested in the Stock Market During 1929, people invested in the stock market for 5
major reasons. The first was that the market was considered an easy way to get rich, quick.
Although, about 4 million Americans, a small amount, invested in the stock market at one time.
The constant influx of new investors coming in and old investors moving out ensured that new
money was always flowing around. (1929В…) Another reason was higher wages. This meant that
everyone in America had extra money to put into savings or invest in the market. The 3rd reason
was that at this time, money was made more readily available, from banks, at a lower interest rate
to more people. Some economist debated that this influenced the stock market, it is conceivable that
people took loans to buy more stock. (1929В…) The fourth reason is that industry was over

crime scene will degrade, diminish, or disappear over time unless collected and preserved. No
matter how carefully done, collecting evidence will result in a post crime transfer of material. The
Integrity of evidence requires that any item introduced in court must be in the same condition as
when it was found at the crimescene. The document that I would provide would be the chain of

Every school is required to carry out regular risk assessments of the premises and activities to
identify any hazards in advance, but all members of staff should also be aware that risk assessment
is an ongoing process, and that they must remain cautious and report any potential hazards to the
health and safety officer (Safe Work Australia 2011). Each school must place its own health and
safety policy and ensure that all staff are trained in its contents. The school should ensure allocating
sufficient resources to meet health and safety priorities. The school should also ensure that
attendance on appropriate work health safety training courses and/or meetings.
All staff should take ownership for, not just their own safety but also ensuring that their actions,
or lack of action, does not cause harm or dangers to others, for example, if a staff was using an
equipment that is for the adult use only, it must be used and stored away where it is out of reach
for students. If the staff can see a potential hazard with the equipment they are using, it must be
reported or taken care of appropriately. If safety equipment is provided, then staff must ensure it is
used at all times. For example, it is customary to wear aprons and closed shoes in the kitchen
throughout the practical. If there comes a student wearing the inappropriate types of shoes, you, as

IRAQ WAR A DISASTER 2
Was the Iraq War a Disaster? From 1979 to 2003 Saddam Hussein ruled Iraq in a brutal
dictatorship. The first action taken against Hussein s regime began in 1990 when Iraq invaded and
annexed Kuwait. In a coalition led by the United States, Great Britain, and Saudi Arabia, Saddam
Hussein was defeated. From that point the United Nations imposed many sanctions upon Iraq. In
2003 President George W. Bush and the United States asked the United Nations Security Council to

an increWhen the United States first went to war President Bush thought it was a good idea to
cut taxes. ...this was the first time in American history that a president took us into a war and
cut taxes (Farley, 2009, p. 1). Typically, taxes rise during times of war to help compensate for the
cost of fighting. With lowered tax rates prior to and during the Iraq War the United States was
put in a difficult predicament. We were required to borrow large sums of money from other
countries to finance the war. This is a large part of why we are struggling with a national debt
issue today. As of today the United States has accumulated over $18 trillion in national debt. Of
that $18 trillion, one third can be attributed to the Iraq War. The amount of money we owe to
other countries isn t shrinking either. Our debt has increased by an average of $3.25 billion since
2012. If the amount we owe was divided amongst every taxpaying citizen in the United States
each person would have to pay roughly $58,400 to compensate for the amount we owe. The total
cost of the Iraq War was over $3 trillion. This $3 trillion could have been used to boost the United
States economy, finance the ongoing War on Terror in Afghanistan, or be held as savings for future

The Issue Of Paper Mill Closures And A Bad Reputation For...
Paper, Pollutants, Politics, and Precaution
The paper industry here in Maine is struggling with mill closures and a bad reputation for being
wasteful or bad for the environment. The issue of paper mills being an added stress to the
environment is not unique to Maine. Mills in Wisconsin are also very wasteful, producing toxins in
the air, soil, and water. In one river in Wisconsin, two hundred fifty thousand pounds of sediment is
said to have been contaminated with manufactured organic chemicals used by the paper mills
(Environmental Impacts of the Paper Industry, 2016). The Environmental protection agency has
become involved in the issue by estimating the movement of about one hundred sixty thousand
pounds of sediment from that river to adjoining lakes, river, and bays (Environmental Impacts of
the Paper Industry, 2016). Restricting access from these locations would be pointless if a natural
disaster occurred, possibly washing the contaminated soil to populated areas (Environmental
Impacts of the Paper Industry, 2016). Not only does the paper industry s chemical waste enter the
water systems, it also enters the air. The particulate matter entering the air includes carbon dioxide,
nitrous oxides, sulfur dioxides, carbon monoxides and particulates. These contribute to ozone
warnings, acid rain, global warming and respiratory problems (Environmental Impacts of the Paper
Industry, 2016). The paper making process also consumes huge amounts of energy, drawing from

Discolored Lenses Of Anglocentrism In Jane Eyre
Through the Discolored Lenses of Anglocentrism
During 19th century Victorian England, in the age of the British Empire and colonialism, Charlotte
Bronte s usage of non caucasian characters and attributes highlight subtle racial tensions and
perspectives in an increasingly anglocentric society. In Jane Eyre, while Jane s perspective and
analogies reveal an overt condemnation of slavery and oppression in foreign countries, the novel s
racially biased undertones characterizes foreign characters as plot devices in order for Jane to
achieve her equality, while the other crumple in on themselves once they are no longer needed.

Jane Eyre By Charlotte Bronte
Following the experiences of Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte, expresses many elements of gothic
literature throughout her novel Jane Eyre. In her perfect understanding of gothic literature, she
expresses the three types of evil commonly found in gothic literature, including the evil of the
supernatural, the evil within or the instinctual evil motives of humans, and lastly, the evil because
of societal influence. Jane Eyreexperiences all of these three evils with her aunt and three cousins
with her residency and return to Gateshead: Jane encounters the supernatural and the evil of societal
influence as a child and she fully encounters the evil within upon her return.
As a child at Gateshead, one discovers the first form of evil in the novel with the negative
interactions between Jane and her relatives, which sparks from both, physical inferiority, (Bronte
11) to her cousins, and as Bronte eventually states, her lack of money. Doing rather short work,
the reader discovers Jane does not belong in Gateshead with her rich Aunt, Mrs. Reed, and her
cousins, John, Georgina, and Eliza. Jane s three cousins cluster, around their mamma, (Bronte 11)
in the opening of the novel, but Jane sits in solitary. She leaves to ask her aunt, What does Bessie
say I have done? (Bronte 11); her aunt responds she likes children, who do not take up their elders,
and Bronte implies, she likes good children, which becomes surprising with Jane s cousins later
actions. As Mrs. Reed departs from the

Esi 1020 Cold Rolled Steel
1) Of all the sample materials tested during the lab, the AISI 1020 Cold Rolled Steel was found to
be the strongest. Moreover, between the two samples of AISI 1020 Cold Rolled steel, the sample
without the neck was found to be stronger. This was observed by calculating the ultimate tensile
strength for all the samples used during the experiment. As a result, the higher the ultimate tensile
stress the material endured, the stronger the material was. The ultimate tensile stress calculated for
the AISI 1020 Cold Rolled was 563 MPa which was the highest of all. Therefore, concluding that
the AISI 1020 Cold Rolled without a neck region was the strongest material. As for ductility, the

speed exhibited greater ductility. Ductility was calculated by obtaining the percent elongation of

English Descriptive Narrative essay
It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia. The air was fresh and the fog was rolling
off of the dark green oak trees. These trees were scattered everywhere like grains of sand on a hot
summer beach. The soft and lingering scent from the various kinds of flowers filled the air. This
added a sense of happiness to everyone who was celebrating my uncle s wedding, especially my
sisters and I. Before the wedding, people were gathered in large groups, everywhere, bickering
with one another. Over 450 were people talking and suddenly a quietness came over the crowd. All
of them were waiting on the same thing, that fairytale moment where two people come together
with one thing in common, love. As everyone started to take their... Show more content on

All of them were holding on to their lovely flowers. As for the nicely shaved men wearing
matching black tuxes and purple ties, they were lined up on the right hand side. Each of them
with their hands placed in front of their body. After the bridesmaids and the groomsmen got
situated it was finally time. It was like she was walking on clouds. Walking with grace in every
foot step, she came out from behind the stone wall in her long white dress covered in a very thin
lace. Everyone was watching her. It was her day to celebrate. All eyes were on her. As I took a
glance at the groom I knew this was a forever love. Tears rolled down his eyes faster and faster as
his soon to be wife came out. He looked at her the same way as almost every character in a love
story would. When they held eachothers hands and said their vows, I knew right then that this
was a moment of truth. I do. finally came out of his quivering lips and then from hers. They had
finally done it. They have sealed that bond of love with the most powerful kiss. This kiss was
full of meaning and pure passion. Everyone was affected by this commitment. Some cried, others
clapped, and some just watched in awe, of what looked like a bond that could not be broken. As
the ceremony neared its end, everybody went their separate ways. The elderly people started
filing out of the gardens to go home after a long memorable day. While the families had to send
their kids to bed after a tiring day of

Torture in Guantanamo Essay
Torture in Guantanamo Under American influence, Binyam Mohamed, an Ethiopian citizen
contained in the prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, was tortured to an extent where his whole
body was burned. Binyam is just one example of the claims of torture found in the Guantanamo
Bay prison, otherwise known as Gitmo . Many of the Gitmo detainees are men who made most, if
not all, Americans fear them after their attacks on September 11, 2001, but after reports of abuse,
George W. Bush and Barack Obama have promised to close down the Guantanamo detention
facility. Too many Guantanamo Bay detainees have been abused in the prison by the large, deep

about any of the cruel and unusual tactics used at the Guantanamo Bay prison. Not only are the
prisoners abused and neglected but they are also isolated for most of the time they serve. Along
with the abuses already listed, they deny medical and family visits, food, and pay for prisoners (
Background Note: Cuba 6). The people of the United States may find out about these horrid
interrogations, they have much more to learn. Many people are shocked to find out the Pentagon
has denied claims of any abuse in Guantanamo, although the people at the Pentagon admit to
finding cases of the torture (Ardiente 2). To authorities this scheme acts as a minor problem, and it
s apparent they aren t making it as much of a concern as they should. Techniques for interrogation
were considered to be life threatening conditions that should not be tolerated by any presidential
administration (Woodward 1). Detainees had no trial and no charges to bring to court so they went
on many hunger strikes to protest ( Guantanamo Bay 3). As a response to the prisoners hunger

Therefore, when price setting issue was obvious concerned mostly by consumers, Ian Chang,

Colonization Of The United States
Colonization in America has demonstrated all of the US history themes of exploration, encounter
and exchange in the Americas. From the beginning of colonization, in 1492 by Christopher
Columbus, to the establishment of the first American colony, Jamestown in 1607, and to the
creation of the thirteen colonies, there have been countless examples of exploration, encounter and
exchange. The exploration of vast waters and unchartered territory led to new and undiscovered
land and America being colonized. During this time of exploration, explorers encountered many
new faces (including Native Americans), crops, animals and even new lifestyles. In addition, with
the increased encounters with the explorers and Natives, there was a massive growth in exchange
of goods between the Europeans and the Natives in the Americas.
The Period of Colonization in America is widely debated, as to what years it is categorized
within. Some say it started as early as 30,000 years ago, the pre Columbus (before 1492) era,
when the Asians crossed the Bering Strait into Alaska. But there is very little written record
before this time, so we don t know much about life during this time period. Then the Vikings
arrived in the year 1000. Many believe that it started in 1492, when Columbus discovered
America and landed in the Bahamas; whereas others believe it started in 1512 when Ponce De
Leon arrived in Florida (the first discovery of, what is now, the US). The ending of this time
period is even more in

Management and Leadership Essay
Management and Leadership
Leadership is the process by which a person influences others to accomplish a
goal, and directs an organization in a manner that makes it more unified and logical. A
noted by Maxwell (1991), True leadership cannot be awarded, appointed, or assigned. It
comes only from influence, and that can t be mandated. It must be earned (p.14).
Leadership can also be described as a dynamic, relational process involving interactions
among leaders, members, and outside influences. Management is the process of
formulating a strategic vision, setting goals, crafting a strategy and then implementing
and executing that strategy. Drucker (1977) states ...management is a function, a

In a bulk mail facility, its goal may be to consolidate the mail for processing within a specific
geographical region. For example
Southeastern region consolidation, empty equipment processing, or lost mail recovery

who motivate and influence its employees to obtain the company s objectives. Whenever
new automation is introduced within a postal facility, in almost documented situation,
facilities are required to downsize. The leadership tries to make this transition as smooth
as possible, without causing a disruption in the morale or production of the employees.
Management takes global competition into account, when formulating its goals
and visions. At this point, it decides which direction is more cost effective for the Postal
Service to stay competitive within a service oriented strategy. In Postal Operations,
management is normally separated into different entities. Management curtails different
grade levels and responsibilities to ensure the overall goals and visions. When we say
management in Postal Operations, we speak of plant managers, postmasters, and other
executive positions. As goals and visions are evaluated from various sources,
management controls what and when certain programs or behavior changes within the

Through compelling visuals, confronting interviews and captivating camera techniques, The Tall

effects on the community.

the camera remains on the interviewee so the audience can resonate with what they just said.
Non diegetic sound is also used fittingly in The Tall Man. In interviews, often there is subtle
instrumentals playing. When the film is detailing more of the distressing components of this
case, suspenseful and tense music is playing. One key scene where non diegetic sound is
utilised, is when a picture of Doomadgee is focused slowly zoomed to and in the background the

The Influence Of River Civilization On The People Of Egypt
Water played a big role in Egypt s ability to develop as a civilization. Therefore, Egypt is also
known as a river civilization because the Nile River had a huge influence on the lives of the
people. It literally meant the difference between life and death to the Egyptians because they
depended on it for drinking, bathing, and watering crops. Since Egypthas been a land of contrasts, a
place of hot sunny days and cold nights, of rop laden fields and empty desert , it was necessary to
use the Nileto their advantage (Background Essay). The people of Egypt shaped their lives around

It is this mix of key factors that has empowered Boston Pizza to serve a bigger number of clients in
a greater number of areas than many other full service restaurants in Canada (BP International Inc.,
2014). Background Authoritative structure and outline help organizations to comprehend
themselves and in a perfect world to cooperate to perform all the assignments and accomplish all the
objectives of an organization. Frequently when a company is small and beginning up, it ignores
both of these ideas while it makes sense of its character, errands, capacities and everything
authoritative structure and outline help put in place. Contrastingly, when Gus Agioritis opened his
little Boston Pizza and Spaghetti House in 1964, his technique was to develop the restaurant by
concentrating on franchising. Take on a similar mindset as a client, convey extraordinary
sustenance and quality, and work nearly with your accomplices. (BP International Inc., 2014).
Boston Pizza has conquered this by concentrating on the three mainstays of achievement, which are
the scenery for all choice making that has supported the advancement and accomplishment of
Boston Pizza. The three pillars of this concrete pizzeria are responsibility to the franchisee benefit,
responsibility for building the Boston Pizza brand, duty to persistently enhancing the client
experience. One of the first franchisees was a RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) officer

Exceptions To The Exclusionary Rule
Grounded in the Fourth Amendment is the Exclusionary Rule that bars illegally seized evidence.
However, modifications or exceptions to the Rule allow, once considered illegally seized evidence,
to be now allow in a court. These exceptions have been met with controversy or repudiation, but are
crucial to the criminal justice system to protect individual s constitutional rights and prosecute the
guilty. These exceptions include the plain view doctrine, independent source doctrine, inevitable
discovery doctrine, and the good faith doctrine. Furthermore, two concepts that are exceptions to
the constitutional requirements are the dying declaration and exigent circumstance. Finally, in
order to elicit a voluntary confession, officers can legally employ deception tactics to misrepresent
information or lie to a suspect to obtain a confession. These exceptions to the Exclusionary Rule
will be examined and expounded on to establish their purpose in allowing evidence into a court.
The plain view doctrine is an exception to the search warrant requirements that allows police
officers to seize evidence, without a search warrant, that they recognize as contraband or used in a
criminal activity that is seen in plain view without having to enter the property or perform a search.
In addition, a corollary to the plain sight doctrine is the plain smell doctrine, that allows if an
officer smells evidence (e.g. marijuana), the officer meets the probable cause requirement to initiate

Life In The Iron-Mills By Rebecca Harding Davis
The short story Life in the Iron Mills by Rebecca Harding Davis is about a town that centers
around an iron mill and the workers whose lives revolve around the mill. At the beginning of the
story, this becomes evident when the narrator says, The mills were deserted on Sundays, except
by the hands who fed the fires, and those who had no lodgings and slept usually on the ash heaps
(1715). The only day that there are not workers at the iron mill is on Sunday because most of
Sunday is spent at church. In the short story, Davis begins to suggest that there are strong, spiritual
elements throughout the story. Most people who think about God believe that God and faith can
bring those who are struggling out of the dark cloud that seems to be encompassing their lives.
That is how Davis is trying to show the role of the church and trying to show that the people in the
iron mill town need... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Davis argues that the Spirit of God is needed to liberate the poor iron workers from their
depression. The church is supposed to be able to lift up those who need help. In so doing, the story
examines a system that was being developed and used in the mid nineteenth century in which
churches created an infrastructure within their existing spiritual framework to be proactive,
organized, and responsible for the economic welfare of the poor.
Wolfe s story reveals why the solution to the social problem methods of charity is still veiled. In
the time period the story took place, middle and upper class people always felt so great about
themselves when giving money to the poor because they thought they were helping charity cases .
Now, and probably back in the time of the iron mills

Pericles Speech During The Peloponnesian War
During the first phase of the Peloponnesian War, Pericles was selected to make a speech to honor
those who had lost their lives in battle. His famous funeral oration covered many topics, such as
democracy, freedom, courage, and most of all the glory of Athens. This is best summed up in the
thesis of the speech, where Periclesencourages Athenians to realize how great Athens is and fall in
love with her. Pericles insists, When you realize her greatness, then reflect that what made her
great was men with a spirit of adventure, men who knew their duty, and men who were ashamed to
fall below a certain standard. However, much of what Pericles states is not the full truth of what
happened during the war. In his speech, Pericles exaggerates Athens military power, society, and
overall greatness, often contradicting himself in the process.... Show more content on

Athens for its greatness. This is best seen through statements such as We do not rely on secret

Newark High School Rewriting Research Paper
The public school system in Delaware isn t exactly prestigious. Senior English Honors required a
total of three written papers, one of them over the summer, and the writing focus was on the
CSQT. A simple formula for a paragraph that a monkey could handle, its meaning is Claim, Set
up, Quote, and Tie in. If you had an opening and closing paragraph and three CSQT s in a paper at
Newark High School, you were a genius. Joseph Harris, the writer of the textbook Rewriting: How
to do Things with Text, implores his readers to think of the act of writingas re writing. Taking
information, thoughts, ideas, concepts from writers and utilize them with new concepts to create a
fresh and more tailored piece from the new writer s perspective, essentially using old to create
new, the theory of conservation of mass applied to writing. This process of taking others work and
utilizing it for rewriting, is very different than what Newark High Schoolhad in mind, for the
concept of the CSQT left little room for creativity. The focus was on making a claim, and using
quotations to point out why that stance was the best choice. The... Show more content on

  • 2. Synthetic Hormone Synthesis When a drug company representative (we call them drug dealers ) came to my office selling some prescription drugs, I asked him, Do you carry bioidentical hormones? He said, Nope. I asked why. He answered, Doc, don t you know that according to American laws, natural substances cannot be patented? No patent, no money. No other treatment has ignited as many debates and controversy as Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT). Official medicine proponents including the FDA, International Menopause Society, American Medical Association, Endocrine Society, Mayo Clinic, and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists have stated that Bioidentical Hormones carry the same risks as synthetic hormones, and that there is no... One group (Harvey Alter, FDA and National Institutes of Health) found that there was a link. Another group (William Switzer, CDC), found the contrary 17. If scientists who are using the same methods and tests on the same virus cannot come to the same conclusion, how could they be so unanimous in a more complicated subject like Bioidentical Hormones? As for the FDA s decision that the risks of Bioidenticals are the same as those for synthetic hormones, what are these opinions based on? Did the FDA test Bioidentical Hormones? Not that I m aware of. They assumed that Bioidenticals work the same as synthetic hormones, which we know might be in fact harmful. It s like assuming that a one dollar bill has the same value as a hundred dollar bill, because they re the same size. On the other hand, proponents of Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy are saying that these hormones are safe and have almost no side effects. Two French studies published in 2008 suggest that Bioidenticals are safer than conventional HRT. According to Dr. Kent Holtorf s literature review bioidential hormones appears to be safer and more potent then synthetic therefore physicians may opt for biodenticals for now unless new data is available from new studies. ... • 3. Brutus Was The Noblest Character In Julius Caesar I think Brutus was the noblest character in Julius Caesar. He was a Roman senator and was the leader in the plot to assassinate Caesar. The energy behind Brutus was for what he believed to be the best interest of Rome, at any cost. He was certainly flawed in his reasoning and his conclusions we not analytical as compared to Cassius. Brutus ran on strong emotion and conviction. He was convinced that Caesar was not a great leader that Rom deserved and Brutus wanted to preserve Rome. He felt Caesar would ruin it and by removing Caesar, Rome can be better off. While Antony and Brutus were at odds, the comment that Antony made in respect of the death of Brutus is important in the story. I think Antony was noble as well. For Antony to give Brutus ... But there is also a need to see this transformation from the society s perspective and analyse the true costs and benefits for the country. It is also important since many projects for development of new airports with private participation are also coming up at different airports all over across the country. On one hand we can see the business models for the Delhi and Mumbai but on the other, the transformation has led to a question on the long term effects of the privatisation. • 5. Analysis Of Speak By Laurie Anderson The book Speak by Laurie Anderson is a book about how Melinda Sordino overcomes the troubles in her life, and how she learned to speak up for herself. The author uses a lot of archetypes and allusions throughout the book to add a fuller description to the events Melinda had gone through, which will help the readers to better understand what Anderson is trying to tell. When Melinda started her first day of high school, she suffered from peer pressure with her best friend who had just left her, and everyone had hated her because she ruined a party during summer break by calling the police. Melinda knew that no one knew the truth, but she was afraid to speak out about it. Laurie Anderson used the allusion of Rudolph, the red nosed reindeer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, the drawing was poorly drawn at the beginning of the book, Melinda s pressure and her life were weighing her down. As the drawing got better throughout the school year, Melinda s strength and mindset also began to get better as well. If the tree meant to shelter , then Melinda sure developed a very nice shelter for herself in the end. Laurie Anderson also used allusions while describing Melinda s trauma. IT sees me. IT smiles and winks. Good thing my lips are stitched together or I d throw up. (Anderson 96). The book Maya Angelou is written by a girl who was once raped. The experience is similar between Melinda and Angelou. The audience may not fully understand what Melinda was thinking during that time, but the book, Maya Angelou, fully describes the life of a raped girl which gave us a fuller understanding of the situation that Melinda was dealing with. She also used the archetype of darkness, when Melinda was raped, it was night time. Darkness represents Chaos, emblem of bad judgment and destruction, for instance, Melinda was raped in the darkness. This word should give the readers a clear foreshadowing of what will happen next. The author also used the archetype of coldness throughout the story. For instance, at ... Psychotherapy Treatment In recent years, the stigma associated with mental illness has significantly dropped due to depression becoming a nationally recognized cause of disability in American s. The recognition of depression is only one of several mental illnesses that impact the quality of life. In the 1950 s psychiatric research opened the doors to evaluating alternative treatment options for individuals with treatment resistant mental illnesses. The use of psychedelic drugs combined with psychotherapy was evaluated to enhance how patients perceived themselves and how they felt. • 7. The Importance Of Impression Management Impression management is an inevitable part of human life. Impression management is a deliberate and conscious form of desirability ... [that] requires cognitive effort (Uziel 202), or thought. It is not supposed to be associated with one s actual behavior (Uziel 202), but, rather, impression management is the image people portray of themselves by the use of behaviors to intentionally regulate the impressionsthat observers have of oneself (Lewis and Neighbors 470). Patricia M. Rodriguez et al. claim that people will present themselves in ways they believe will produce positive rewards and will help them accomplish their goals (403), but different goals require different self presentations. Thus, people must alter their impression managementin pursuance of achieving their social objective. Mark R. Leary and Ashley Batts Allen claim that people do not interact with others but rather make their own impressions of that person (889). In other words, people go by their mental representations and inferences they make about a person s character instead of who the person really is. In order to control others impression of them, people may use manipulation and deceptionin their impression management to present a favorable image of themselves. As a way to influence the perception of others on themselves, people may use a strategy of being untruthful in their achievements and behaviors that provide them with a mechanism to manufacture a positive outward image (Tyler and Feldman ... Slavery in America was considered a form of physical abuse and it was easy to see through hangings, lashes, and brutality demonstrated that African Americans were under physical abuse. Mental abuse, however, is often difficult to argue as bruises do not show on one s arm from constant mistreatment through unequal pay, educational inequality, and racism. Black Americans continue to face both kinds of abuse and are subjected to consistent inequality. Because of the tone of one s skin, black Americans receive poor education and a lower chance for success. Although physical abuse toward black Americans... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1861, when slavery was still prevalent, Harriet Jacobs introduces through the text, The Church and Slavery, that men, women, and children were taught that they [were] rebellious sinners...[their] hearts [were] filled with all manners of evil. Although America has come far from slavery, we still continue to live in a racist country. Our history derives from black individuals taught that they were not worthy of god, that because of the color of their skin they were evil. Because black Americans were told that their opinions and beliefs were wrong and constantly consumed with racist opinion from slave owner, blacks were not able to stand up for themselves. Black individuals were not able to stop the abuse of slavery because of their lack od education lack of education and because they were told they were not worthy of god. This kind of mindset, where black Americans are considered less than, still remains and affects blacks within the American culture. Therefore, it is seen that boys get more attention than girls as they are disciplined more harshly than girls, leading to girls getting less attention than boys, also in terms of ethnicity, boys from African Caribbean backgrounds are also more likely to be disciplined than white British boys. The poor do not have the money to get food. In some cases the higher class poor are is one of the supporters of the homeless. In the essay it talks about how people are wasting food and items for no reason. Eighner explains that concept as he travels into dumpsters every day in search of necessities. In one of his routinely visits to a dumpster he visits a pizza shop. He said it was his conveyer belt to get food. When a call is not confirmed by a customer the pizza is thrown away into the dumpster. After a while the pizza place catches on that someone is taking their pizza from the trash. The next time he visits the pizzas have jalapeГ±os on them. It was intentionally done because he was taking the pizzas. In Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua, college students participate in a service learning project to earn college credits at a New York City community college. During this international service learning opportunity, students perform service work and conduct research to examine and address health and social problems in resource poor communities. Students design and implement health education skits and workshops, conduct health assessments in local neighborhoods, and work at the local hospital. Program requirements include a daily journal, evening reflection groups, a report that communicates the results of student research and a final reflection paper which includes a plan for future action. The transformative learningaspect involves the student s ability to learn and understand of the levels of poverty, economic disparities, and health issues within the region as well as the different factors that contribute to it. Social and cultural factors, structural issues, and baseline contextual factors all influence the situation that the region experiences. The program is designed that students experience this condition for the first time and are transformed in the way that they view and articulate poverty. The Nazi s arguably faced a lot of opposition between the years 1939 45 and not only from the army; who had the power of keeping up the morale of the citizens due to their military strengths and integrating part of the Nazi regime. However Hitler and the Nazi s also faced other oppositions, such as the church which again was a source of opposition based on morale. • 15. Summary Of The Net Imagery In Oresteia In the Oresteia, revenge drives the characters to act. Although they call it justice, it is not. Aeschylus uses net imagery to symbolize faith and destiny. When Clytemnestra murders Agamemnon and Cassandra, the net imagery acts as a symbol of terrible fate. However, then fate reverse. Now, Orestes is caught in Apollo s net and kills his own mother. Lastly, Athene changes the meaning of the net from one of chaos to that of order and justice. These uses of the net imagery help the reader focus on a crucial theme in the play: the superiority of a formal justice system to one based on the individual quest for revenge by progressively altering the nets meaning and its affect on those around it. Clytemnestra s use of the net imagery focuses the reader on the drawback, that is, collateral damage, of a justice system that is based on the individual quest for revenge by emphasizing the collateral damage associated with revenge. As she stands over the bodies of Agamemnonand Cassandra she says: I wrapped in a great net not a fish could have slipped from the shoal (69). Involving the shoal in Clytemnestra s speech explains that with every revenge quest there are innocent people who suffer the repercussions. An avenger does not consider the bystanders surrounding the guilty person. Clytemnestra states that the net was so large that the fish could not escape the shoal. If the fish s fate is to be caught in the net yet it cannot escape the shoal, that means the shoal suffers the same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay about Salome and Cupid The paintings Salome with the Head of St. John the Baptist, by Guido Reni and Cupid Chastised, by Bartolomeo Manfredi are both 17th century visual representations of a story. The story behind Salome is the interesting biblical story of the beheading of St. John the Baptist, as it s title suggests. The story goes that Salome performed a dance for the king and his guests. Herod Antipas saw Salome s dance and was so impressed, and drunk, that he promised to give her whatever she asked of him. After consulting her mother, Salome asks Herod for the head of John the Baptist. Herod delivered on his promise, and had the head of John the Baptist delivered to her on a platter, as she asked. The yellow in Salome s dress can be taken as a reflection of her confident and satisfied posture and facial expression. Pink can symbolize femininity or sexuality, a major factor behind the events of the story. For it was Salome s display of these qualities, in her dance, that moved Herod so much as to grant her any request. These vibrant colors also provide contrast to the cool background, with pink (a tint or red) serving as a contrast to green, further emphasizing the protagonist woman and relating to the viewer her significance in the story behind the depiction. The term depression was derived from a Latin verb deprimere, to press down. Dated as far back to the 14th century, the term to depress meant to bring down in spirits or to conquer (AllDisease.org, 2011). Even though melancholia continued to be the leading diagnostic expression, depression increased its frequency (its usage of name) in the medical field and was a synonym by the end of its century. Paper, Pollutants, Politics, and Precaution The paper industry here in Maine is struggling with mill closures and a bad reputation for being wasteful or bad for the environment. The issue of paper mills being an added stress to the environment is not unique to Maine. Mills in Wisconsin are also very wasteful, producing toxins in the air, soil, and water. In one river in Wisconsin, two hundred fifty thousand pounds of sediment is said to have been contaminated with manufactured organic chemicals used by the paper mills (Environmental Impacts of the Paper Industry, 2016). The Environmental protection agency has become involved in the issue by estimating the movement of about one hundred sixty thousand pounds of sediment from that river to adjoining lakes, river, and bays (Environmental Impacts of the Paper Industry, 2016). Restricting access from these locations would be pointless if a natural disaster occurred, possibly washing the contaminated soil to populated areas (Environmental Impacts of the Paper Industry, 2016). Not only does the paper industry s chemical waste enter the water systems, it also enters the air. The particulate matter entering the air includes carbon dioxide, nitrous oxides, sulfur dioxides, carbon monoxides and particulates. These contribute to ozone warnings, acid rain, global warming and respiratory problems (Environmental Impacts of the Paper Industry, 2016). In her perfect understanding of gothic literature, she expresses the three types of evil commonly found in gothic literature, including the evil of the supernatural, the evil within or the instinctual evil motives of humans, and lastly, the evil because of societal influence. Jane Eyreexperiences all of these three evils with her aunt and three cousins with her residency and return to Gateshead: Jane encounters the supernatural and the evil of societal influence as a child and she fully encounters the evil within upon her return. This was observed by calculating the ultimate tensile strength for all the samples used during the experiment. As a result, the higher the ultimate tensile stress the material endured, the stronger the material was. The ultimate tensile stress calculated for the AISI 1020 Cold Rolled was 563 MPa which was the highest of all. • 53. Life In The Iron-Mills By Rebecca Harding Davis The short story Life in the Iron Mills by Rebecca Harding Davis is about a town that centers around an iron mill and the workers whose lives revolve around the mill. At the beginning of the story, this becomes evident when the narrator says, The mills were deserted on Sundays, except by the hands who fed the fires, and those who had no lodgings and slept usually on the ash heaps (1715). The only day that there are not workers at the iron mill is on Sunday because most of Sunday is spent at church. In the short story, Davis begins to suggest that there are strong, spiritual elements throughout the story. Most people who think about God believe that God and faith can bring those who are struggling out of the dark cloud that seems to be encompassing their lives. That is how Davis is trying to show the role of the church and trying to show that the people in the iron mill town need... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Davis argues that the Spirit of God is needed to liberate the poor iron workers from their depression. The church is supposed to be able to lift up those who need help. In so doing, the story examines a system that was being developed and used in the mid nineteenth century in which churches created an infrastructure within their existing spiritual framework to be proactive, organized, and responsible for the economic welfare of the poor. Wolfe s story reveals why the solution to the social problem methods of charity is still veiled. In the time period the story took place, middle and upper class people always felt so great about themselves when giving money to the poor because they thought they were helping charity cases . Now, and probably back in the time of the iron mills ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Pericles Speech During The Peloponnesian War During the first phase of the Peloponnesian War, Pericles was selected to make a speech to honor those who had lost their lives in battle. His famous funeral oration covered many topics, such as democracy, freedom, courage, and most of all the glory of Athens. This is best summed up in the thesis of the speech, where Periclesencourages Athenians to realize how great Athens is and fall in love with her. Pericles insists, When you realize her greatness, then reflect that what made her great was men with a spirit of adventure, men who knew their duty, and men who were ashamed to fall below a certain standard. However, much of what Pericles states is not the full truth of what happened during the war. In his speech, Pericles exaggerates Athens military power, society, and overall greatness, often contradicting himself in the process.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the time of the oration, Athens was in the first phase of the Peloponnesian war, and both opposing forces were at a stalemate. One side would win a battle and then lose one right after. Despite this, Pericles depicted Athens as having the upper hand in the war and continued to praise Athens for its greatness. This is best seen through statements such as We do not rely on secret weapons, and how they do not need help in winning their battles. These statements give Athenians baseless morale, as in reality, neither side in the war was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Newark High School Rewriting Research Paper The public school system in Delaware isn t exactly prestigious. Senior English Honors required a total of three written papers, one of them over the summer, and the writing focus was on the CSQT. A simple formula for a paragraph that a monkey could handle, its meaning is Claim, Set up, Quote, and Tie in. If you had an opening and closing paragraph and three CSQT s in a paper at Newark High School, you were a genius. Joseph Harris, the writer of the textbook Rewriting: How to do Things with Text, implores his readers to think of the act of writingas re writing. Taking information, thoughts, ideas, concepts from writers and utilize them with new concepts to create a fresh and more tailored piece from the new writer s perspective, essentially using old to create new, the theory of conservation of mass applied to writing. This process of taking others work and utilizing it for rewriting, is very different than what Newark High Schoolhad in mind, for the concept of the CSQT left little room for creativity. The focus was on making a claim, and using quotations to point out why that stance was the best choice. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Any journaling that is done is essentially the dumping of all internal feelings onto paper. There is no rhyme or reason to what is on the paper, it s just whatever feeling happens to be at the forefront of the mind at the time. Quotes are often involved in journaling as well as activities like blogging or emailing, however they are included to stand alone, functioning as a reminder or a type of encouragement, for either the author or the recipient. In such mediums like emailing or blogging, the reiteration of the day s events may include summaries of books read or phrasing of new ideas introduced throughout the day mixed with personal opinions on what occurred.
