The Costly Damage of Flooding
Floods are the most costly and damaging natural disaster in the world (Berz, 2000). The determination
of streamflow (stage or discharge) at a river station plays an important role in environmental and water
resources management. Flood routing, a basis for flood forecasting, is the process of determining
progressively the timing and shape of a flood wave at successive points along a river reach.
Approaches for flood routing have been based either on hydraulic (process approach) or hydrologic
(conceptual or system approach). Hydrologic stream routing is based on the storage concept, and
conversely, hydraulic channel routing is based on the principles of mass and momentum conservation.
In predicting a particular hydrograph on its passage through a river reach, any flood modeling will
involve a number of assumptions and simplifications. For many rivers, topographic information
neither exit nor are readily available and consequently the use of dynamic models has some limitations
(Barati, 2013). In addition, a close match between the observed flow rates and the computed ones is
difficult to achieve with such techniques if some parameters used along a reach are not accurate.
While high demands on computer resources, as well as on the quantity and quality of input data,
restrict the efficiency of hydraulic models in practical applications, approximate models produce
satisfactory results at considerably less expense with a limitation in their generality and accuracy
depending on the

Geometry Standards
During my level two s I was in a first grade classroom and I had a wonderful experience teaching at
Orchard Hill Elementary, I grew to love teaching first grade. My mother was also a preschool teacher
and my aunt was a kindergarten teacher, so I have always had a passion for teaching lower elementary.
I think first grade would be the perfect classroom to teach, because that is when students are starting to
become less dependent on help from the teacher. Students are still at the age where they love going to
school and are excited to learn. Also, I can empower them to keep having a love of learning for years
to come. Students in first grade are starting to develop their critical thinking and problem solving
skills, so this is very important when it comes to math. I plan on staying in Iowa to teach, so I am
going to be discussing how geometry can be taught in a first grade classroom. Then, I will discuss
how to implement the standards in a first grade classroom. Then, I will discuss briefly how the Iowa
Core and the Common Core compare in geometry standards and also describe the three Iowa Core
standards for geometry. As well as, explaining the Van Hiele levels and what level first graders should
be at. Overall, this paper will be explaining how teachers can apply geometry content in there

will begin to understand the specific characteristics for any give shape. They will learn how to draw
such figures and be able to define their

Trap Music Subcultures
Subculture in America is a way to establish a unique identity apart from the mainstream culture.
Classic examples of subcultures are music. Subcultures consist of specific linguistics, types of dress
and fashion, and also certain values. Much like the Punk Rock era in the late 70 s, Hip hop culture
birthed it s own subcultures in mass variety. Trap Music is a subculture of Dirty South, Gangster Rap .
Trap Music breeds a life and followers of its own, centered on heavily bass riddled compositions,
lyrics that glorify narcotics sale and use, in addition to defying authority specifically the police and
related agencies. This subculture came in to development during early 2000 s time period. Trap music
can be identified as an evolved version

Compare And Contrast The Satisfaction Theory Of Atonement
The premise of the whole Christian faith is that Christ died for humanity s sin but there is debate
amongst why his sacrifice did this. The disagreement in the exact way atonement was achieved by
death on the cross are seen in the multiple different theories. Christus Victor states that Jesus Defeated
the devil and evil at the cross, making his victory humanity s satisfaction. The Satisfaction theory
argues that Jesus death payed a debt owed thus making the satisfaction of the debt humanity s victory.
The Penal Substitution Theory is close to Satisfaction but is different in that it says a penalty was
required as a result of sin and Jesus substituted himself in humanity s place. Moral Exemplar
illustrates that Christ life and death were an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to this theory, every sin requires payment in return and Jesus death was the eternal payment
for sin. Some texts used to defend this theory include Isaiah 53:10 12, Mark 10:45, Matt 3:17, Matt
20:28, and Romans 3:23 25. The original author of the Satisfaction theory, St. Anslem of Canterbury,
was known as a unifier because when he came into his bishop position in Canterbury there was great
division in the community between the monks. According to R.W. Southern, there were two different
groups of monks at the cathedral and because of it the community was still bitterly divided when he
arrived, and Anselm was quite simply the only person who could heal the division, and he knew it
(Southern, 2009, pg. 52). In his mission to unify, Anslem probably sought to bring the focus of
Christians to the idea that Jesus satisfied humanity s sin and away from disunity. The resurrection and
ascension is significant in this theory because if death is the payment for this sins committed. If Jesus
remained dead, then he would be still paying the price as opposed to paying it in full as shown in his
resurrection back to life and

Imagery In Nate Powell s March
Everywhere you look you see many different beautiful scenes of nature and socitety. In the book
March, the illustrator, Nate Powell, along with the authors, John Lewis and Andrew Aydin, use these
scenes to illustrate the civil rights movement. The novel shows the growth of the main character, John
Lewis, and how he started as a young child who grew up into a very influential man in the civil rights
movement. March describes many influential moments in the civil rights movement, such as the lunch
counter sit ins and the Freedom Ride. The novel uses different types of imagery to enhance the story
and add. Powel uses white and black to evoke a sense of sadness. The illustrator also uses different
techniques to show the importance of different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One way used many times throughout the book is using black to reinforce a grim tone onto the reader.
An example of this is in Book One on page 93. The image shown is of lunch counter protesters during
a sit in with a counter closed sign. The photo uses mostly black to develop a dark and unsettling tone.
On the page before it is shown how the servers did not want to serve SNCC members. The negativity
and hatefulness of the servers is reinforced with the dark tones used to create the image on page 93.
Another instance the illustrator uses black is in Book Two on pages 102 through 108. The Freedom
Riders were arrested and they were transferred to the Mississippi State Penitentiary, also known as
Parchman Farm. This point in the Freedom Riders journey was one of the low points for the Riders.
They were dehumanized and treated terribly in the jail, this shown in the way the panels are
illustrated. As soon as the Riders entered the jail cells, the white borders started to transition into black
borders. This transitions the tone the reader feels while reading. The dark colors cause the reader to
subconsciously feel unsettled and unhappy, which is what the Freedom Riders felt during their time at

American Dreamer By Bharati Mukherjee Summary
American Dreamer by Bharati Mukherjee scrutinizes the problems involved with culture fusion and
identity. Within the essay, Mukherjee provides her story of traveling to the United States to expose
America s problem with the fusion of other cultures. Fusion, according to Mukherjee, stands as the
idea of multiple cultures uniting together within the context of a country under one supreme set of
ideals regardless of previous beliefs and cultural influences. However, both resident countries and
immigrants struggle to coexist with their conflicting societal influences. The refusal to accept cultural
differences provokes division within society. Immigrants refusal to appreciate a fused culture
promotes division. Mukherjee questions the idea of immigrants losing their culture for American
ideals: Parents express rage or despair at their U.S. born children s forgetting of, or indifference to,
some aspects of Indian culture, to that Mukherjee asks, Is it so terrible that our children are
discovering or are inventing homelands for themselves? (Mukherjee, 1997, para. 28). Many
immigrants experience anger when their children no longer hold the ideals of their home country. This
tension produced within the household hinders the unity within a resident country s culture and
encourages division within families. Using herself as an example, Mukherjee provides another
instance of anger directed at her from her own subculture: They direct their rage at me because, by
becoming a U.S.

Rights of Indigenous Australians
The law recognizes that specific groups in society are permitted to have specific rights. Individuals in
traditional homelands have the right to determine the application of health, education and welfare
entitlements, free from government regulation and discrimination. However the rights Indigenous
Australians are entitled to are not being completely abided by and therefore white law is being used as
a tool of discrimination to Indigenous Australians.
Before the case of Eddie Mabo, Indigenous Australian s ancestral lands that they were raised on were
claimed for British purposes and benefits. After crossing paths with land rights advocates and legal
minds, Eddie Mabo became of crucial importance to Indigenous Australian land law. Mabo was
looking to seek a retreat from injustice concerning Indigenous Australians right to the land. After a ten
year legal battle, often referred to as the Mabo Case, six out seven High Court Judges ruled that: The
Meriam people are entitled as against the whole world, to possession, occupation, use and enjoyment
of the lands of the Murray Islands . By showing that the Indigenous owned land as individuals and as
families, and had clearly demarcated property boundaries, Mabo s battle for land rights proved
successful. This succession paved the way for fair land rights for Australia s Indigenous people.
The Stronger Futures aims to help the Indigenous persons of remote communities in the Northern
Territory, but are the Indigenous free from

The Uas Control Segment Architecture (Ucs) Is A System
The UAS Control Segment Architecture (UCS) is a system interface originally focused on developing
interoperability software for UAS ground control stations (Department of Defense, 2013). UCS
standards have expanded beyond the original intent of a common open architecture for UAS greater
than 20 pounds; the maritime Program Executive Office (PEO) is exploring USC in many of its
unmanned platforms (Department of Defense, 2013). UCS is able to eliminate the stove pipe
acquisition process with the adoption of common standards for the ground control segments which
provides interoperability as well as reducing life cycle costs (Blais, 2016). UCS interoperability
addresses the following:
1. How things relate to one another.
2. Functional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goal of JCUA is to provide a reference baseline system so as to compare it to other open
architectures and find differences in standards, terminology, and content (Blais, 2016). JCUA is that
standard that open systems can be measured against; the JCUA facilitates analysis of programs for
interoperability (Department of Defense, 2013). One example is terminologies, if like components and
functions are not consistently labeled across architectures it becomes difficult to determine where they
are alike or different (Gonzales Harting 2014). As C. Blais points out in the report Unmanned Systems
Interoperability Standards (2016), all DOD Programs of Record (POR) are required to comply with
the Net Ready Key Performance Parameter (NRKPP) (Blais, 2016).

ensure that all information technology is capable of interoperability in accordance with federal law;
this includes UAS (Koester, Williams, Powers, Vincent, 2010). Therefore, information technology
must be evaluated for interoperability compliance, the evaluation tool is the NRKPP (Koester et al.,
2010). UAS must be capable of net centric military operations; they must be able to enter the network,
be managed securely and effectively within that network, capable of data exchange and
interoperability (Koester et al., 2010). JCAU supports DOD initiatives

Analysis Of The Poem Long Black Song By Richard Wright
W.E.B Du Bois makes points of having a double consciousness and being behind a veil. While Booker
T. Washington points out that there is a dignity to be found in fruits from labor. In the reading of Long
Black Song, by Richard Wright, he uses both of these points in his text to make the story come alive.
Although, creatively both Du Bois and Washington s points can be found hidden within the text; it is
clear within this short story that Wright leaned to agree more with Du Bois points than he did with
Washington s points. W.E.B. Du Bois presents two ideas within his text, the idea that African
Americans live behind a veil and the idea that they constantly struggle with a double consciousness.
Double consciousness to Du Bois was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I said that any individual who learned to do something better than anybody else learned to do a
common thing in an uncommon manner had solved his problem, regardless of the colour of his skin,
and that in proportion as the Negro learned to produce what other people wanted and must have, in the
same proportion would he be respected. (Washington 76 77) Washington is basically saying dignity in
labor means that African American men will earn respect if they provide white men with something
useful, such as things you can get from working hard in a field and selling it to white men. This will
show them you are valuable and therefore they will respect you. The right to be respected by white
man has been earned and thus it will be given. Long Black Song starts out with hints towards Du Bois
idea of the veil with the lines, She saw green fields wrapped in the thickening gloam. It was as if they
had left the earth, those fields, and were floating slowly skyward. (Wright 65) The terms such as
thickening and floating give the image of being behind or on something. The idea that the fields are
being pulled into a veil. These lines give a bit of foreshadowing to the story when you read between
them leading us to whether Wright will side with Du Bois or Washington at the end of the story. Also

American Foreign Policy 1930-1941
Over the years 1930 through 1941 the goals of American foreign policy generally changed. In the
earlier years America dealt with war and fought with other countries. America was not very smart in
learning to stay out of war. Over the years, America became more neutral and attempted to stay out of
war as much as possible. Throughout the years, important figures wrote documents to support
America s journey and decisions. In the beginning of this time period, around 1931, Japan disregarded
our international treaty agreements. America did not approve of this and drew a cartoon criticizing
Japan for these actions. This was shown in Document A. The same type of action happened between
Europe and America in the year 1932. Europe could not pay their war debts and America reacted by
saying Europe could not agree on anything else. This was shown in Document B. America could have
handled this differently by being neutral and helping rather than being aggressive and saying they
could not agree on anything else. Around the year of 1937, people started to ... Show more content on

Family Centered Practice
Description of the major thrust of family centered practice
According to Sandau Beckler (2001), the primary drive of family centered practice is customer
empowerment . She defined empowerment as the process of negotiating or eliminating barriers to
problem solving imposed by external society (p. 86). Moreover, she elaborated that the therapist
should present the customer with prospects that would result in empowerment. Similarly, Cohen
(2004) mentioned that both the therapist and customer benefits from this expansion. she further
uttered, You become empowered as you assist in the empowerment of others (p.42).

Bruce Springsteen s Almost Dreamlike Song Nebraska
In Bruce Springsteen s almost dreamlike song Nebraska he sings about Charles Starkweather and his
girlfriend Carol Fugate. A young couple that went on a killing spree over eight days in Nebraska in the
1950s, killing ten people. The song is short and intimate despite it being a first person narrative of a
serial killer. Springsteen writes, They wanted to know why I did what I did Well, sir, I guess there s
just a meanness in this world. as the last words of the song. This ending coupled with the historical
background expresses a few themes that I believe Springsteen wanted to convey. The first being that
people always seem to search for meaning in things, that sometimes have no meaning at all. Secondly,
that isolation and loneliness can be a hard thing to cope with, and it is something that I have had to

I felt trapped by my lack of ability to communicate with the people around me, and unable to relate to

The Greatest Mayan Achievement
The greatest Mayan achievement of the Maya was probably how they lived for at least a few years. I
think this because they believed in many things like gods that were so bloodthirsty that they had to do
very violent ceremonies, which are when they sacrificed others to give human blood to the gods to get
what they want. This has hurt their population. Why this might be the greatest Mayan achievement is
because they lived long enough to at least be in their 10 s 40 s. If there was a religion that did these
sacrifices then they wouldn t be able to live that long because their population would be highly
reduced. Also, doing these sacrifices made others want to leave this village even more. This
achievement could be the greatest because

Colloidal Silver Nutritional Supplements Essay
Colloidal silver as a nutritional supplement became a news item again this year with the death of one
of its most famous proponents. Paul Karason died in September of 2013, Karason gained fame after
appearing on the Today Show in 2008 for having blue skin due to argyria (Netburn. 2013). Karason s
argyria was caused by his ingestion of silver, he drank colloidal silver to treat his dermatitis (Netburn.

The prevalence of argyria prior to 1800 has not been documented, but it was reported to be associated
with a reduced mortality rate during epidemics of plague and other infectious diseases.
(Alexander, 2009, p.290)
During the period 1800 to 1900 dressings with silver nitrate were used to treat skin ulcers and other
types of wounds (Alexander, 2009). In the 1880 s, Doctor Carl Siegmund Franz Crede introduced the
use of silver nitrate eye drops to successfully prevent gonorrheal ophthalmia in newborns (Alexander,
2009, p.291). In the period between 1900 and 1940, colloidal silver was consumed by patients and
silver was also given intravenously; but it was later discovered in high doses parenterally, the silver
could cause gastrointestinal disturbances, convulsions or death (Alexander, 2009, p.291). The use
discovery and use of antibiotics has resulted in greatly decreased use of parenteral silver products by
today s allopathic doctors.
Treatment Methods Kevin Trudeau in his book Natural cures they don t want you to know about ,
writes that gargling with colloidal silver is a treatment for bacterial infection, viral infection, Candida
and even for parasites (2004). The author provides no studies to confirm his recommendations and the
efficacy of the treatment on parasites.

The Experiences Of Denver, Florence, And The Survivors
The experiences of Denver, Florence, and the survivors of the atomic bomb represent one way
invaders intrude on homes and capture the occupant s attention, which freezes time. This claim is
further strengthened by the characters in these books that exist outside of I24, a troubled conscience,
and Hiroshima. What the authors demonstrate through these characters is the absence of time freezing.
Even though, these characters interact with the invader. Moreover, the authors reveal how character s
attachment to the domestic space exacerbates the paralysis of time. In Beloved, time does not freeze

Stamp Paid doesn t have a home, and therefore he isn t obligated to remain with the invader. Stamp
Paid can leave, and he does just that. The lack of a domestic sphere weakens the preoccupation with
an invader because the individual can simply leave the place of intrusion. While Stamp Paid is free
from Beloved and I24, Elisha is free from memories that trouble his conscience. Baldwin displays a
character who isn t affected by invaders and the freezing of time, through John s role model, Elisha.
Understand that Elisha is saved, and this holy revival exonerates him from his past. Elisha
demonstrates no recognition of his dabble with sin that transpires with Ella Mae. John comments on
this: He stared in a dull paralysis of terror at the body of Elisha. He saw him standing had Elisha
forgotten? beside Ella Mae before the altar while Father James rebuked him for the evil that lived in
the flesh (12). Whereas memories invade Florence s mind and directs the narrative into an explanation
of her past, there is no chapter of Go Tell It titled, Elisha s Prayer. Baldwin dedicates voyages into the
past solely on characters who have troubled consciences. Elisha is saved: You got to remember, Elisha
said, turning now to look at him, that you think about it with a carnal mind. You still got Adam s mind,
boy, and you keep thinking about your friend, you want to do what they do, and you want to go to the

The Absolutism Of King Louis XIV Essay
Louis XIV, the ruler of France from the late seventeenth century to the early eighteenth century,
claimed, I am the state. He considered this to be absolutism. His goal, also acquainted with
absolutism, was, one king, one law, one faith; Furthermore, Louis wanted to promote religious unity,
royal dignity, and security of the state. In order to achieve this goal, he had to rule with a firm hand,
laying down the law for all to see. Louis XIV s absolutism fostered in four major parts: the building of
Versailles to control the nobility, the breeding of a strong military, the improvement of France s
economy, and, while quite harsh, the brutal extinction of religious toleration. After the occurrence of

In 1685, Louis revoked the Edict of Nantes and put the Edict of Fontainebleau in its place. Because of
this document, all religious toleration for Huguenots (previously allowed by the Edict of Nantes) was
no longer allowed, leaving them with two options: convert to Catholicism or leave France. Through
this law, Louis achieved national religious unity. In 1661 Louis appointed Jean Baptiste Colbert as
controller general of finances. This proved to be very successful in adding to the increase of France s
economy, and it helped Louis achieve his second goal of having one law. Colbert s ideas were similar
to that of mercantilism. He insisted on having an economic system that would make France a self
sufficient powerful country where they exported more than they imported. He improved France s
economy through the invention of a merchant marine fleet, the support of industries, the control of
tariffs on French goods, and the collection of taxes. All of these gained money for France, which led to
the creation of a powerful army. Due to a powerful army, France was able to secure its natural
frontiers, even in the North East, which was France s weakest natural border. While Louis claimed a
flaw of his was that, I loved war too much, he was able to make a strong French presence in Europe,
adding to his idea of one law. Louis XIV was successful in achieving one king, one law, one faith. He

Thomas
I can relate to Thomas because of these four ways. Thomas was doubtful and worked hard at finding
out the truth. He helped out others believe in Jesus even though they have never seen Him. He taught
about Jesus to others. And he struggled a lot throughout his life with Jesus.
Thomas doubted and so he worked hard at finding out the truth. He always doubted because of his
faith, he wanted to see with his own eyes instead of believing what he wanted to see. For example
when Jesus was crucified on the cross he was speared in the chest and nailed to the cross from his
wrists. When Jesus was resurrected He visited the group of disciples but Thomas wasn t with the
group at the time. So when Thomas came to them they told him about the good news but he didn t

I m finished with practice I have to go eat dinner, then I go home around 8:00 8:30. I have to do my

Pros And Cons Of The Legal Drinking Age
Even though Americans can legally qualify for the military, army, marines, navy, and etc. at the age of
18 and over, women and men under the age of 21 cannot legally drink alcoholic beverages. Not only
can Americans qualify to fight for the United States, but they are also suppose to be able to drive,
attend college, take on careers and bills, do anything without parental supervision, vote state and
federal, sign legal documents, charge as an adult, and live the life of an adult. The list of rights that an
18 year old can do, continues to grow throughout the years. If an 18 year old is enlisted into the
United States military and stationed in the U.S., they should be able to consume alcoholic beverages.
On a day in 1942, the legal drafting age lowered to the age 18 and the highest age raised to the age 37
(history.com np). By 1988, all 50 states in the United States, had raised their legal drinking age
because the National Government prompted them to, so all states had the same minimum legal
drinking age (drinkingage.procon.com np). At this point in time, the National Government announced
it completely clear that even if you are 18, you can be drafted into the military and etc., can draft you,
but you cannot consume or purchase alcoholic beverages. Only a couple of statistics have changed
from 1942 to present day. On January 27th, 1973, the United States military ended drafting and the
legal military age to apply for the military was 18 years old (without parental consent)

Professional Athlete Research Paper
As a professional Athlete you practice and develop your skills so you can be the best of your ability.
You have to maintain your equipment to keep your body clean, as well as you have to train, exercise
and maintain your weight so your body can be in the best condition available. To be a professional
athlete you have to be a team player because you have to work with other players on the team and take
instructions from the coach. There are many work environments for professional athletes, like the field
or court in which they play on. Another environment would be the weight room or indoor facility, in
these places the athletes work on bettering their skills. Athletes have a very unusual work schedule
because they are forced to work on weekends and holidays. Athletes usually work 40 plus hours a
week, just so they can be successful as a team and individual. ... Show more content on

The Pros And Cons Of Biological Weapons
One of the reasons as to why the commission believes that terrorists are more likely to obtain
biological weapons than nuclear weapons is because some biological weapons are much simpler and
easier to make than nuclear weapons (Abramson, 2012). Moreover, the materials that are needed to
create a biological weapon could easily be obtained from innocuous endeavors that improve the
quality of human life (Abramson, 2012). On the other hand, if a terrorist organization would try to
conduct a nuclear attack, then they would face many challenges that would be very difficult to
overcome while also keeping the attack secret (Gerstein, 2010). One of these challenges would be
acquiring the equipment and the infrastructure that is needed to create a nuclear weapon without
raising any alarms to authorities about the intents of the terrorist organization (Gerstein, 2010). The

In fact, the former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) director James Woolsey has stated that creating
a biological weapon is as easy as producing beer and that even a good chemistry high school student is
capable of creating a biological weapon (Gerstein, 2010). Moreover, with the increase of natural
viruses such as Ebola, terrorists could carry out a biological attack without the need of having to use
any technology (Cenciarelli et al., 2015). They could simply travel to the country where a
transmittable natural virus is occurring and they could get infected on purpose; then, all they have to
do is travel back to their target location and intentionally spread the transmittable virus among large
crowds of people (Cenciarelli et al.,

College Cost In College
The author talks about college cost, and the effect it has on students and on how times it takes longer
to graduate. This is an important topic because college cost has been a problem for many individuals
for decades and it still is. College cost is something that shapes people s lives and it worries them
because college cost is what determines if they re going to continue going to college. It s something
that people should take lightly because college is pretty expensive. According to the advocacy group
complete college America, it cost 63,718 for one extra year to attend college. For students who take
longer to finish school because of certain requisites, it becomes a toll because of the cost. According to
Norton Field Guide to writing by Richard Bullock and Maureen Daly Goggin found a report on Los
Angeles bases campaigns for college opportunity, saying students who attend school 6 years instead of
4 years will lose 110,900 dollars in their lifetime. Many people in the work field and colleges expect
students to attend school for four years. According to the NFGW, nearly nine out of 10 freshmen think
they will earn their bachelor degree within the traditional four years. Yet In the NFGW quotes the U.S
Department of Education and they report that about 45 percent won t have finished.

been a big factor on whether they would continue their education. People can take a break

HOW POPULAR CULTURE AFFECTS RACE
The popular culture particularly visual media affects our opions and attitude towards race and racial

The Impact Of Reality Television And Its Impact On Society
Reality television is an addicting phenomenon that graces millions of televisions daily. From shows
like Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Life of Kylie, and Love and Hip Hop to series like My Strange
Addiction, Hoarders, and My 600 lb Life, reality TV has left its mark and impacted today s society in
more ways than one. It has slithered into mass media to dominate lives and focus on real events or
situations that have long term effects on its viewers. This brand of television serves as a reflection of
society and often exploits its participants if not glamorizes a certain lifestyle that may seem
unattainable to its viewers. For example, the Kardashians represent success and the achievement of the
American dream that, to many, is elusive. Through the dramatization of mental illness, Hoarders
exploits its viewers and reinforces the perception of these people as outsiders which lead to further
marginalization and hiding of hoarding behavior. Shows that look down on and criticize certain
lifestyles, such as Hoarders, function as a cautionary story and is put out to the public as a warning of
how not to live. Lifestyle themed programs are also connected to broader campaigns, orchestrated by
private and public partners to promote desired behaviors such as delayed parenting and healthy eating
(Oullette). With this program, A E tends to sensationalize these people and sends the message to its
audience that this behavior is monstrous and should be avoided at all costs. A E chooses to dramatize
the manifestation of hoarding as opposed to using the platform to get to the root of hoarding for both
the viewers and the hoarders themselves. Although some episodes are less offensive than others,
Hoarders exploits its subjects and interferes with the viewer s potential for empathy. The ordinary
celebrity promised by television, and the incitement to perform the real for ratings, accentuates these
possibilities and constraints, and raises important questions about whether ordinary people are
empowered or exploited through nonfiction and reality programming (Oullette). Instead of
encouraging proper treatment it presents hoarding as something that is impossible to relate to and
rather than sympathize, viewers are

Shades of a White Man
What a piece of work is a man, how noble in reason, how infinite in faculties, in form and moving
how express and admirable, in action how like an angel, in apprehension how like a god.
(Shakespeare) Humans were born pure, humble and humane. Politics, science, conflicts and the innate
desire for dominance change who we are, and who we ultimately aspire to be. The culture we are born
into, too, affects who we are in a rather dramatic way; it contributes significantly in writing the script
of a person s life. George Orwell was born into a culture of white men, a culture that believes in
dominance and superiority, a culture that steps on whoever stands in its way. Imperialism was that
culture; the culture that Orwell was influenced by, and suffered from. From my perspective, I believe
that even though George Orwell claimed that he was against the imperialist, British culture; I was all
for the Burmese and against their oppressors, the British (Orwell, Shooting an Elephant, par. 2), he
was an imperialist in disguise, and had always been one. He was a unique imperialist, one who had
morals and ethical obligations, which seemingly resulted in his lifelong misery, since it would not
naturally align with the culture he belongs to. Orwell was not a perfect white man, yet he was one.
Imperialism is a state of mind, a certain way of looking at people and life. The imperialist culture is a
selfish one; it imprints a seal on all of its descendants, thus creating masters out of

How Did The Holocaust Happen
It is clear that the holocaust did happen but why would some people believe that it did not? Many
sources state that people don t deny the holocaust. But don t think that there could be that high of
numbers with people being murdered and killed and that they weren t death camps, the people died of
some sort of disease and starvation. The main thing is that they believe that Hitler did not command
the holocaust and that it was not the Nazis that committed it. Then who did? At the trials of
Nuremberg in 1945 and 1946 twenty two major, high ranked Nazis were charged on the holocaust and
many others were found guilty before and after those trials.
An article states that there is no autopsy reports and that there was nothing in German documents that
state facts on the holocaust or if it happened. Although there were many thousands of corpses
available in German concentration camps by the end of the war and although at least 1,000 autopsies
were performed, none showed any evidence of death by poison gas or poison. There is many videos

there is no physical documents or proof was found, and even after being told, being proven

Australian aboriginals are a group of people who are deemed to be the indigenous occupants of
Australia. The Australian High Court appreciated them to share a common as well as biological
ancestry as Australia s original occupants (de Plevitz, Croft, 2003). There has however been a lot of
ignorance with reference to this group of people more so from the Australians. This has mostly been
due to ignorance of these people with most arguments and opinions based on myths (Morphy, Morphy,

Aboriginal as well as their fellow native tribes as being the original residents of the State. Their final
proposal was directed towards the insurance of enactment of legislation that would enshrine processes
that would forge forth means of uniting the entire state of Australia by way of agreement or treaty.
These treaty or agreement would further ensure the resolving of any issues that detracted

All these are clear indications that the Australians failed to relate and know the aboriginal people. Had
this been so, there then would have raised no demand for a treaty at the end of reconciliation. The
demand has thus made the establishment as well as the operations of the Council for Aboriginal
Reconciliation more or less an irony. This is due to the fact that the same had been in place as a
political response to the failed attempts to come up with a proposal treaty. These attempts and
enactment of the council had been predeceased by the Bicentenary of European settlement/invasion

Such lack of recognition has also been reflected by the ignorance and or deliberate attempts to

agree because, ultimately, everyone believes they are fighting for the right cause, so silencing the
other party s voice means we must silence all parties voices. The heckler s veto is defined as the
suppression of speech in order to appease disruptive, hostile, or threatening members of the audience,
(Gillman, Chemerinsky). This has been ruled time and time again as unconstitutional when speakers
are actually designated to speak in a private area. Although, in a public space, such as an open campus

Symbolism Of The Scarlet Letter By Nathaniel Hawthorne
If it is important, it is remembered. If it has any value, it will last far into the future, if not forever.
This is why Michelangelo s David, the Mona Lisa, the automobile, The Beatles, and Pride and
Prejudice are all remembered. If it is the first to make an impact, it becomes important. That is when it
will affect people in future generations. For example, the Model T is not produced anymore, but is the
grandfather of almost every car made today, affecting jobs, businesses, people, and the world. The
Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne is taught today because it was one of the first important
American written novels that contained obvious symbolism. Since symbolism is used in everything of
literary merit, it is important to see where it started. In the same way, The Adventures of Sherlock
Holmes, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has lasted through the years and still be prevalent today. This is
achieved in the original books and continuing in spin offs and adaptations.
Sherlock Holmes holds the Guinness World Record for literary character most frequently portrayed on
screen. Over one hundred actors have played Holmes on screen. There are over two hundred and fifty
movies, hundreds of episodes, and even plays based around Doyle s writings with the first known
Sherlock Holmes movie debuting in 1905. The first American Sherlock Holmes actor was William
Gillette, who played him on stage in 1899 and on film in 1916 (Dawidziak, n. p.). The many

increased after the approval of home testing kits by FDA in 1996. On the other hand, some people
feared that notification of negative result in home testing would diminish the chances to educate at
risk individuals to understand their risky behavior. Meanwhile, in VCT setting there are less concerns
about this problem because it has face to face counseling for patients with any results. However, it is
believed that direct counseling services currently provided in clinic based testing are ineffective
because they are too brief and inadequate (Harris 2005). Moreover, according to a study that

counseling services were not necessarily optimal and also supported the introduction of new

White Collar Crime Is Now Becoming More Widely

In today s society, white collar crime is now becoming more widely known because of the
advancement of technological devices and brilliant minds. In fact, over 730,000 counts of suspected
financial wrongoing were recorded in America last year, according to recent data from the Treasury

Analysis Of I Heard A Fly Buzz When I Died
Emily Dickinson s I heard a Fly buzz when I died describes a death speaker looks back the moment of
his or her death. Using the objects like the storm, the fly and the melancholy of the people around to
express the mood of the speaker, Dickinson reveals that faces the death, the speaker is afraid at first,
but finally, the speaker finds the calmness and peace inside herself or himself. Like I heard a Fly buzz
when I died , After Death also addresses a moment before death. Rossetti uses the death as a
compensation of the tragic love He did not love me living; but once dead . Two poems both use brief

But they gather together to witness the final performance of the speaker.
Then, Dickinson keeps providing the detailed imagery in the room, and shows the people s reaction to
the speaker s death:
The Eyes around had wrung them dry
And Breaths were gathering firm
For that last Onset when the King
Be witnessed in the Room (Dickinson, lines 5 8)
People are sad and sorrow, and maybe they are the speaker s family members and friends. Their eyes
are like sponges, and crying is stretching the tears out of the sponges and had [has] wrung them dry .
Breaths have touchable weight and shape that can be gathered together and get firmed. Dickinson
endows new property to the breath and cry. This provides a vivid picture in the room like people are
sobbing and weeping weakly, and the same feeling as if our audience is part of the people around the
speaker. Then Dickinson describes the mental world of the people. They are waiting and to witness the
King Death in their own eyes.
What does the last moment look like? Is it horrified? Dickinson gives her answer in the last stanza:
With Blue uncertain stumbling Buzz
Between the light and me
And then the Windows failed and then
I could not see to see (Dickinson, lines 13 16)
There are many symbols in this stanza: a light, blue color, a buzz, and windows. I consider the light is
a symbol of heaven and the fly is the speaker s soul because flies have wings just as angles.

Over The Counter Medications Of Maca Root
Maca root is coming into its own with regards to a possible alternative to over the counter
medications. In the United States, maca root is a supplement as opposed to an actual medicine, so you
should research anything with maca to examine its uses, benefits and possible side effects.
Here?s your complete guide to taking maca root pills, including maca supplement dosage, how much
maca to take and any possible side effects to this superfood.
What Is Maca Root?
What precisely is maca root? Maca root comes from the Peruvian Andes Mountain region. Native
people began cultivating maca root around 2,000 years ago. Natives used maca root as a vegetable and
as a tea like drink, but also as a medicine.
As a plant, maca root is red, purple, yellow, black and cream colored. The bulb like part that stores the
food reaches to 4 to 6 inches long and 1.5 inches wide. Maca root seems to only grow in high
altitudes, and Peruvians have become experts at growing, cultivating and using this plant as a staple
food.
Although ancient Peruvians have known about this plant for some time, maca root is just now gaining
prominence as a superfood. Maca root, at least in the United States, usually comes in a powdered or
capsule form. There are several uses for this versatile plant as a supplement.
Benefits of Maca Root
Although the U.S. Food and Drug Administration does not regulate or evaluate maca root
supplements, there is some evidence that maca root is an aphrodisiac or a fertility enhancer.

Notes on Poetry
Poetry
A Soldier
By Robert Frost
He is that fallen lance that lies as hurled,
That lies unlifted now, come dew, come rust,
But still lies pointed as it plowed the dust.
If we who sight along it round the world,
See nothing worthy to have been its mark,
It is because like men we look too near,
Forgetting that as fitted to the sphere,
Our missiles always make too short an arc.
They fall, they rip the grass, they intersect
The curve of earth, and striking, break their own;
They make us cringe for metal point on stone.
But this we know, the obstacle that checked

Young as she is, the stuff
Of her life is a great cargo, and some of it heavy:
I wish her a lucky passage.
But now it is she who pauses,
As if to reject my thought and its easy figure.
A stillness greatens, in which
The whole house seems to be thinking,
And then she is at it again with a bunched clamor
Of strokes, and again is silent.
I remember the dazed starling
Which was trapped in that very room, two years ago;
How we stole in, lifted a sash
And retreated, not to affright it;
And how for a helpless hour, through the crack of the door,
We watched the sleek, wild, dark
And iridescent creature
Batter against the brilliance, drop like a glove
To the hard floor, or the desk top,
And wait then, humped and bloody,
For the wits to try it again; and how our spirits
Rose when, suddenly sure,
It lifted off from a chair back,
Beating a smooth course for the right window
And clearing the sill of the world.
It is always a matter, my darling,
Of life or death, as I had forgotten. I wish
What I wished you before, but harder.
What are frail? Spring blossoms and youth;
What are deep? The ocean and truth.
How can sorrow be heavy as said in the poem? Today and Tomorrow be brief? Youth be frail? And
truth be deep?

Tenochtitl Place In Mexico
Did you know that Tenochtitlan was a place in Mexico?
So was Popocatepetl and Ixtlaccihuatl. They were both during the Aztecs days also. Tenochtitlan was
doing really good with its irrigation system. The city was built in a huge valley which was surrounded
by mountains, and rivers also flowed from the mountains into lake Texcoco. Popocatepetl and
Ixtlaccihuatl were two mountains that were in Tenochtitlan.
In Tenochtitlan there was a least about 200,000 people that lived there at that time. Most of the houses
there was a one story and had a flat roof. People in Tenochtitlan traveled by canoes since there was
few roads. At one point of time Tenochtitlan reach it greatest, with about 1 million people that lived in
the valley of Mexico. Most of the population in Tenochtitlan were farmers, and as the city grew, more
land was used for farming and all that stuff. Tenochtitlan main crop was corn, and farmers also grew
tomatoes, beans, chili peppers, and prickly pears. Nobles houses was built like a palace, and poor
people houses was built on the Chiampa s.
Popocatepetl and Ixtlaccihuatl and Tenochtitlan both took place during the Aztec days. They both also
take place at Tenochtitlan. Both had a life in the world. They live in the same city, and were active.
They had to each rule their own city. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mountain or Ixtla had a great disposition, so she had plenty of friends. Ixtlaccihuatl wanted to
marry Popocatepetl, but the emperor didn t let her to marry him though. As the emperor became old,
he also got ill. Eventually the emperor made a bet, and the bet was if you defeated the enemies around
Tenochtitlan, you were able to rule or reign with Ixtlaccihuatl. The war was long, and they took a
variety of weapons with them to. When Popocatepetl returned from the battle with all of the surviving
man s, he was crowned the new

Quiz On Human Diversity
Sorry everyone for being late! Since Tuesday, an Internet outage with AT@T occurred until early
Saturday morning. I was able to take the quiz before problems became worse. The quiz on human
diversity was very intriguing in a way that educated me more on understanding race and similarities.
Even though I did pretty well on the quiz, I did answer a few questions incorrectly. In order for me to
understand the questions answered wrong, I did a little more research and found a lot of information
that I was unaware of. Like many other students who mentioned in their discussion post, I assumed
that certain regions possessed a variety of skin color due to environmental changes, but in all honesty,
no one really knows. Another part of the quiz

Characteristics Of Surrey Neighbourhoods
Surrey Neighbourhoods
Throughout Surrey every neighbourhood has a different sense of place which is well defined through
its character which is a fundamental of sense of place in residential communities. Thus making each
neighbourhood a vital part of a truly liveable, modern city(City of Surrey, Surrey communities).
There are six main neighbourhoods in Surrey (Fig 1):

The historic resort community of Crescent Beach is one of South Surrey s most popular attractions.
South Surrey offers connections to the United States through the Peace Arch and Pacific Highway
border crossings which gives a sense of landscape dominated ecological environment and a
memorable destination getaway with a vibrant urban waterfront place which connects memories and
people around the world (Fig 8).
Conclusion
To some extent the sense of place depends on the built form, surrounding features derived from a mix
of natural and cultural features in the landscape, aesthetics and characteristic of the neighbourhood but
a major part depends on the feeling or perception held by people who occupy the place and not by the
place itself and thus makes a place special or unique, authentic or belonging. Places can have a strong
sense of place identity and character by local inhabitants and by many visitors. It is a social
phenomenon that exists independently of any one individual s perceptions or experiences. Surrey
neighbourhoods have distinguishable sense of place which can t be defined by one

The Causes Of The Stock Market Crash Of 2008
In Frontline s The Meltdown, the causes of the stock market crash of 2008 came into discussion. The
topics regarding Bear Stearns, the Lehman Brothers and their collapse, and the huge bailout made in
results to the market crash. There were great points being made on the mistakes Henry Paulson and
Ben Bernanke did not view from their perspective, which in turns were the problems that made up the
crash.
It was not until 2007 when foreclosures occurred more and became prominent, especially since the
last market crash during the Great Depression. As Gretchen Morgenson of the New York Times
discusses, Bear Stearns was known for his great plays with mortgages on Wall Street. People who
believed Stearns would pull the right decisions became scared as the values of their assets were
decreasing. This created a necessitated attitude towards money since their was money being borrowed
fighting against the collaterals, in turns the assets. When the assets started to decline, you need to start
paying back money to those you have borrowed from. Roughly $1.6 billion was discarded in Stearns
decisions, which was the start to the stress he would obtain from the crash. This enabled the world to
see how weak the market was, especially those who had a role within the market. When banks also
saw the weakness mortgage companies had developed, they decided to raise the cost of borrowing
money from them, creating doubts if these mortgage firms, such as Stearns, would be able to solve

The Doolittle Raid
When most people think about the top school in the world for math, science, engineering and
technology, they usually think of Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech has its perks, but there are such better
options, such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or commonly known as MIT. According to
the name, MIT is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The school is considered one of the hardest
schools in the US to get into, have an acceptance rate of 7.9%, and the average GPA is around 4.13,
but it is highly worth your while. A lot of famous people have gone to MIT. An example of a
successful leader who went to MIT was James Doolittle, the leader of the Doolittle Raid
(http://archive.boston.com/lifestyle). The Doolittle raid was one of the most famous raids in the
history of WW2, mental scarring the Japanese, while not doing that much damage to the actual
landscape. Then we have Buzz Aldrin, who also went to MIT. If you don t know who Buzz Aldrin is,
he was the second person to walk on the moon. There is also Richard Feynman, who studied
theoretical physic, and Andrew Wong, the CEO of Sony. As you can see with these famous people,
they were able to become very successful by going to this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As seen by Quora, the most popular curse in all of MIT is Electrical Engineering and Computer
Science. This is because of people wanting to work at places such as Dropbox or
Google(https://www.quora.com). From looking at the statistics of this, is says that the least popular
majors include the musical arts, history, and comparative media (https://www.quora.com) . They also
have plenty of other courses, such as fencing and sailing. Both of these courses are apart of the Pirate s
Certificate, a certificate given to students that take fencing, pistol, sailing, and archery. To put the nail
in the fun classes coffin, MIT has there own toy lab class.

  • 2. The Costly Damage of Flooding Floods are the most costly and damaging natural disaster in the world (Berz, 2000). The determination of streamflow (stage or discharge) at a river station plays an important role in environmental and water resources management. Flood routing, a basis for flood forecasting, is the process of determining progressively the timing and shape of a flood wave at successive points along a river reach. Approaches for flood routing have been based either on hydraulic (process approach) or hydrologic (conceptual or system approach). Hydrologic stream routing is based on the storage concept, and conversely, hydraulic channel routing is based on the principles of mass and momentum conservation. In predicting a particular hydrograph on its passage through a river reach, any flood modeling will involve a number of assumptions and simplifications. For many rivers, topographic information neither exit nor are readily available and consequently the use of dynamic models has some limitations (Barati, 2013). In addition, a close match between the observed flow rates and the computed ones is difficult to achieve with such techniques if some parameters used along a reach are not accurate. While high demands on computer resources, as well as on the quantity and quality of input data, restrict the efficiency of hydraulic models in practical applications, approximate models produce satisfactory results at considerably less expense with a limitation in their generality and accuracy depending on the ... • 3. Geometry Standards During my level two s I was in a first grade classroom and I had a wonderful experience teaching at Orchard Hill Elementary, I grew to love teaching first grade. My mother was also a preschool teacher and my aunt was a kindergarten teacher, so I have always had a passion for teaching lower elementary. I think first grade would be the perfect classroom to teach, because that is when students are starting to become less dependent on help from the teacher. Students are still at the age where they love going to school and are excited to learn. Also, I can empower them to keep having a love of learning for years to come. Students in first grade are starting to develop their critical thinking and problem solving skills, so this is very important when it comes to math. I plan on staying in Iowa to teach, so I am going to be discussing how geometry can be taught in a first grade classroom. Then, I will discuss how to implement the standards in a first grade classroom. Then, I will discuss briefly how the Iowa Core and the Common Core compare in geometry standards and also describe the three Iowa Core standards for geometry. As well as, explaining the Van Hiele levels and what level first graders should be at. Trap Music breeds a life and followers of its own, centered on heavily bass riddled compositions, lyrics that glorify narcotics sale and use, in addition to defying authority specifically the police and related agencies. • 5. Compare And Contrast The Satisfaction Theory Of Atonement The premise of the whole Christian faith is that Christ died for humanity s sin but there is debate amongst why his sacrifice did this. The disagreement in the exact way atonement was achieved by death on the cross are seen in the multiple different theories. Christus Victor states that Jesus Defeated the devil and evil at the cross, making his victory humanity s satisfaction. The Satisfaction theory argues that Jesus death payed a debt owed thus making the satisfaction of the debt humanity s victory. The Penal Substitution Theory is close to Satisfaction but is different in that it says a penalty was required as a result of sin and Jesus substituted himself in humanity s place. Moral Exemplar illustrates that Christ life and death were an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to this theory, every sin requires payment in return and Jesus death was the eternal payment for sin. Some texts used to defend this theory include Isaiah 53:10 12, Mark 10:45, Matt 3:17, Matt 20:28, and Romans 3:23 25. The original author of the Satisfaction theory, St. Anslem of Canterbury, was known as a unifier because when he came into his bishop position in Canterbury there was great division in the community between the monks. According to R.W. Southern, there were two different groups of monks at the cathedral and because of it the community was still bitterly divided when he arrived, and Anselm was quite simply the only person who could heal the division, and he knew it (Southern, 2009, pg. 52). In his mission to unify, Anslem probably sought to bring the focus of Christians to the idea that Jesus satisfied humanity s sin and away from disunity. The resurrection and ascension is significant in this theory because if death is the payment for this sins committed. If Jesus remained dead, then he would be still paying the price as opposed to paying it in full as shown in his resurrection back to life and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. American Dreamer By Bharati Mukherjee Summary American Dreamer by Bharati Mukherjee scrutinizes the problems involved with culture fusion and identity. Within the essay, Mukherjee provides her story of traveling to the United States to expose America s problem with the fusion of other cultures. Fusion, according to Mukherjee, stands as the idea of multiple cultures uniting together within the context of a country under one supreme set of ideals regardless of previous beliefs and cultural influences. However, both resident countries and immigrants struggle to coexist with their conflicting societal influences. The refusal to accept cultural differences provokes division within society. Immigrants refusal to appreciate a fused culture promotes division. Mukherjee questions the idea of immigrants losing their culture for American ideals: Parents express rage or despair at their U.S. born children s forgetting of, or indifference to, some aspects of Indian culture, to that Mukherjee asks, Is it so terrible that our children are discovering or are inventing homelands for themselves? (Mukherjee, 1997, para. 28). Many immigrants experience anger when their children no longer hold the ideals of their home country. This tension produced within the household hinders the unity within a resident country s culture and encourages division within families. Using herself as an example, Mukherjee provides another instance of anger directed at her from her own subculture: They direct their rage at me because, by becoming a U.S. ... • 8. Rights of Indigenous Australians The law recognizes that specific groups in society are permitted to have specific rights. Individuals in traditional homelands have the right to determine the application of health, education and welfare entitlements, free from government regulation and discrimination. However the rights Indigenous Australians are entitled to are not being completely abided by and therefore white law is being used as a tool of discrimination to Indigenous Australians. Before the case of Eddie Mabo, Indigenous Australian s ancestral lands that they were raised on were claimed for British purposes and benefits. After crossing paths with land rights advocates and legal minds, Eddie Mabo became of crucial importance to Indigenous Australian land law. Mabo was looking to seek a retreat from injustice concerning Indigenous Australians right to the land. After a ten year legal battle, often referred to as the Mabo Case, six out seven High Court Judges ruled that: The Meriam people are entitled as against the whole world, to possession, occupation, use and enjoyment of the lands of the Murray Islands . By showing that the Indigenous owned land as individuals and as families, and had clearly demarcated property boundaries, Mabo s battle for land rights proved successful. This succession paved the way for fair land rights for Australia s Indigenous people. • 10. Analysis Of The Poem Long Black Song By Richard Wright W.E.B Du Bois makes points of having a double consciousness and being behind a veil. While Booker T. Washington points out that there is a dignity to be found in fruits from labor. In the reading of Long Black Song, by Richard Wright, he uses both of these points in his text to make the story come alive. Although, creatively both Du Bois and Washington s points can be found hidden within the text; it is clear within this short story that Wright leaned to agree more with Du Bois points than he did with Washington s points. W.E.B. Du Bois presents two ideas within his text, the idea that African Americans live behind a veil and the idea that they constantly struggle with a double consciousness. (Washington 76 77) Washington is basically saying dignity in labor means that African American men will earn respect if they provide white men with something useful, such as things you can get from working hard in a field and selling it to white men. This will show them you are valuable and therefore they will respect you. The right to be respected by white man has been earned and thus it will be given. Long Black Song starts out with hints towards Du Bois idea of the veil with the lines, She saw green fields wrapped in the thickening gloam. It was as if they had left the earth, those fields, and were floating slowly skyward. (Wright 65) The terms such as thickening and floating give the image of being behind or on something. This has hurt their population. Why this might be the greatest Mayan achievement is because they lived long enough to at least be in their 10 s 40 s. What the authors demonstrate through these characters is the absence of time freezing. Even though, these characters interact with the invader. Baldwin displays a character who isn t affected by invaders and the freezing of time, through John s role model, Elisha. In order to achieve this goal, he had to rule with a firm hand, laying down the law for all to see. Because of this document, all religious toleration for Huguenots (previously allowed by the Edict of Nantes) was no longer allowed, leaving them with two options: convert to Catholicism or leave France. Through this law, Louis achieved national religious unity. In 1661 Louis appointed Jean Baptiste Colbert as controller general of finances. This proved to be very successful in adding to the increase of France s economy, and it helped Louis achieve his second goal of having one law. Colbert s ideas were similar to that of mercantilism. He insisted on having an economic system that would make France a self sufficient powerful country where they exported more than they imported. He improved France s economy through the invention of a merchant marine fleet, the support of industries, the control of tariffs on French goods, and the collection of taxes. • 20. Thomas Reflection Kaleb Harriott Bible 10 9/2/2017 Thomas I can relate to Thomas because of these four ways. Thomas was doubtful and worked hard at finding out the truth. He helped out others believe in Jesus even though they have never seen Him. He taught about Jesus to others. And he struggled a lot throughout his life with Jesus. Thomas doubted and so he worked hard at finding out the truth. He always doubted because of his faith, he wanted to see with his own eyes instead of believing what he wanted to see. For example when Jesus was crucified on the cross he was speared in the chest and nailed to the cross from his wrists. When Jesus was resurrected He visited the group of disciples but Thomas wasn t with the group at the time. So when Thomas came to them they told him about the good news but he didn t believe them unless he saw and felt Jesus wounds in his wrists and chest. Jesus then invited Thomas to see Him so he did and Thomas felt his wounds and believed. The way I work hard is my schedule; I have to wake up go to swim practice from 5:00 to 7:00. Then I have to go to school for six hours and do a lot of assignments for each class. After each class they assign homework which usually takes another two hours after school. Then I have to go to swim practice again for another two hours. When I m finished with practice I have to go eat dinner, then I go home around 8:00 8:30. I have to do my homework which takes forever and go to bed late and wake up early the next morning for practice. It s hard to do mostly because of the amount of school work we have. When I have to wake up for practice it makes it even harder because I put in all my effort and end up tired before school and makes it harder to concentrate. Then after school I have to practice really hard again, and by the time I get home I m exhausted and just want to go to sleep, but I have to stay up and do a lot of homework. I keep doubting that I won t be able to get my work done on time or work hard at practice. I just try to do my best at either my school work or swimming no matter what. Thomas was an inquisitive man. Thomas curious mind led him to doubt God s work in the world, but also led him to discover answers to his questions, which led him to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pros And Cons Of The Legal Drinking Age Even though Americans can legally qualify for the military, army, marines, navy, and etc. at the age of 18 and over, women and men under the age of 21 cannot legally drink alcoholic beverages. Not only can Americans qualify to fight for the United States, but they are also suppose to be able to drive, attend college, take on careers and bills, do anything without parental supervision, vote state and federal, sign legal documents, charge as an adult, and live the life of an adult. The list of rights that an 18 year old can do, continues to grow throughout the years. If an 18 year old is enlisted into the United States military and stationed in the U.S., they should be able to consume alcoholic beverages. On a day in 1942, the legal drafting age lowered to the age 18 and the highest age raised to the age 37 (history.com np). By 1988, all 50 states in the United States, had raised their legal drinking age because the National Government prompted them to, so all states had the same minimum legal drinking age (drinkingage.procon.com np). At this point in time, the National Government announced it completely clear that even if you are 18, you can be drafted into the military and etc., can draft you, but you cannot consume or purchase alcoholic beverages.   • 23. The Pros And Cons Of Biological Weapons One of the reasons as to why the commission believes that terrorists are more likely to obtain biological weapons than nuclear weapons is because some biological weapons are much simpler and easier to make than nuclear weapons (Abramson, 2012). Moreover, the materials that are needed to create a biological weapon could easily be obtained from innocuous endeavors that improve the quality of human life (Abramson, 2012). On the other hand, if a terrorist organization would try to conduct a nuclear attack, then they would face many challenges that would be very difficult to overcome while also keeping the attack secret (Gerstein, 2010). From shows like Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Life of Kylie, and Love and Hip Hop to series like My Strange Addiction, Hoarders, and My 600 lb Life, reality TV has left its mark and impacted today s society in more ways than one. It has slithered into mass media to dominate lives and focus on real events or situations that have long term effects on its viewers. This brand of television serves as a reflection of society and often exploits its participants if not glamorizes a certain lifestyle that may seem unattainable to its viewers. For example, the Kardashians represent success and the achievement of the American dream that, to many, is elusive. Through the dramatization of mental illness, Hoarders exploits its viewers and reinforces the perception of these people as outsiders which lead to further marginalization and hiding of hoarding behavior. Shows that look down on and criticize certain lifestyles, such as Hoarders, function as a cautionary story and is put out to the public as a warning of how not to live. Lifestyle themed programs are also connected to broader campaigns, orchestrated by private and public partners to promote desired behaviors such as delayed parenting and healthy eating (Oullette). With this program, A E tends to sensationalize these people and sends the message to its audience that this behavior is monstrous and should be avoided at all costs. A E chooses to dramatize the manifestation of hoarding as opposed to using the platform to get to the root of hoarding for both the viewers and the hoarders themselves. Although some episodes are less offensive than others, Hoarders exploits its subjects and interferes with the viewer s potential for empathy. The ordinary celebrity promised by television, and the incitement to perform the real for ratings, accentuates these possibilities and constraints, and raises important questions about whether ordinary people are empowered or exploited through nonfiction and reality programming (Oullette). Shades of a White Man What a piece of work is a man, how noble in reason, how infinite in faculties, in form and moving how express and admirable, in action how like an angel, in apprehension how like a god. (Shakespeare) Humans were born pure, humble and humane. Politics, science, conflicts and the innate desire for dominance change who we are, and who we ultimately aspire to be. The culture we are born into, too, affects who we are in a rather dramatic way; it contributes significantly in writing the script of a person s life. George Orwell was born into a culture of white men, a culture that believes in dominance and superiority, a culture that steps on whoever stands in its way. Imperialism was that culture; the culture that Orwell was influenced by, and suffered from. From my perspective, I believe that even though George Orwell claimed that he was against the imperialist, British culture; I was all for the Burmese and against their oppressors, the British (Orwell, Shooting an Elephant, par. 2), he was an imperialist in disguise, and had always been one. He was a unique imperialist, one who had morals and ethical obligations, which seemingly resulted in his lifelong misery, since it would not naturally align with the culture he belongs to. Orwell was not a perfect white man, yet he was one. Imperialism is a state of mind, a certain way of looking at people and life. This is why Michelangelo s David, the Mona Lisa, the automobile, The Beatles, and Pride and Prejudice are all remembered. If it is the first to make an impact, it becomes important. That is when it will affect people in future generations. For example, the Model T is not produced anymore, but is the grandfather of almost every car made today, affecting jobs, businesses, people, and the world. The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne is taught today because it was one of the first important American written novels that contained obvious symbolism. Since symbolism is used in everything of literary merit, it is important to see where it started. If we who sight along it round the world, See nothing worthy to have been its mark, It is because like men we look too near, Forgetting that as fitted to the sphere, Our missiles always make too short an arc. They fall, they rip the grass, they intersect The curve of earth, and striking, break their own; They make us cringe for metal point on stone. But this we know, the obstacle that checked And tripped the body, shot the spirit on Further than target ever showed or shone How does poetry help you see yourself/your world differently? Imagery ... But now it is she who pauses, As if to reject my thought and its easy figure. I remember the dazed starling Which was trapped in that very room, two years ago; How we stole in, lifted a sash And retreated, not to affright it;

It is always a matter, my darling, Of life or death, as I had forgotten. I wish What I wished you before, but harder. What are frail? Spring blossoms and youth; What are deep? The ocean and truth. How can sorrow be heavy as said in the poem? Today and Tomorrow be brief? Youth be frail? And truth be deep? • 43. Quiz On Human Diversity Sorry everyone for being late! Since Tuesday, an Internet outage with AT@T occurred until early Saturday morning. I was able to take the quiz before problems became worse. The quiz on human diversity was very intriguing in a way that educated me more on understanding race and similarities. Even though I did pretty well on the quiz, I did answer a few questions incorrectly. In order for me to understand the questions answered wrong, I did a little more research and found a lot of information that I was unaware of. Like many other students who mentioned in their discussion post, I assumed that certain regions possessed a variety of skin color due to environmental changes, but in all honesty, no one really knows. The topics regarding Bear Stearns, the Lehman Brothers and their collapse, and the huge bailout made in results to the market crash. There were great points being made on the mistakes Henry Paulson and Ben Bernanke did not view from their perspective, which in turns were the problems that made up the crash. It was not until 2007 when foreclosures occurred more and became prominent, especially since the last market crash during the Great Depression. As Gretchen Morgenson of the New York Times discusses, Bear Stearns was known for his great plays with mortgages on Wall Street. People who believed Stearns would pull the right decisions became scared as the values of their assets were decreasing. This created a necessitated attitude towards money since their was money being borrowed fighting against the collaterals, in turns the assets. When banks also saw the weakness mortgage companies had developed, they decided to raise the cost of borrowing money from them, creating doubts if these mortgage firms, such as Stearns, would be able to solve this ...
