Fictional Literature is based on the author s imagination and perspective rather than reality. Short
stories, novels, novellas and folk tales are kinds of fiction. A short story is a short fictional prose
structure narrative constructed on a plot that includes the basic elements such as situation, rising
action, climax and resolution. In contrast to it, a Novel is a long fictional story that uses all the
elements comprising storytelling, plot, character, setting, theme and point of view.
A Novella is one of the types of fictional literature whose length can be measured as longer than a
short story and shorter than a novel.
Non fictional Literature is factual work of writing which deals only with facts, real people, events or

Essay Determining the Ideal Gas Constant
Experiment 1 Determining the Ideal Gas Constant
Introduction:
Finding and balancing equations to find the ideal gas constant using PV=nRT. Using Excel to format
and graph various types of data, both given and calculated. The data given for the decomposition of
NaHCO3 and Na2CO3 provided the information needed to determine the experimental constant R that
can then be compared to the textbook definition of R .
Experimental:
Data was provided as Experiment 1: Determining the Ideal Gas Constant , see attachment. An excel
spreadsheet was used to enter provided data, calculate conversions and plot a graph showing that data
and its trend line. Data for NaHCO3 and Na2CO3 was used.
Results and Discussion:

These differ from the referenced value of 0.08206 because the conditions are experimental and not
ideal. The values calculated in this experiment are valid because they are accurately calculated with
the given temperature and pressure of the provided data points. Looking at the results of R=0.0822 for
NaHCO3 and R= 0.0818 for Na2CO3, the numbers are really close to the ideal R value.

Research Plan on Palm Oil Destruction Essay examples
My idea was to make a video of some sort, some kind of an educational video. I decided that my area
of interaction would be Environment. I narrowed it down to two topics which were : Palm Oil
Destruction and China Pollution. I already knew quite a lot about both of the topics, but I decided to
go with a topic that affects us and the world. Therefore, I chose Palm Oil Destruction which affects us
in many ways. I will make a video about an environmental issue and post it on Youtube, to gain
awareness and to learn more about this topic, those are my goals. Palm is one of the largest on going
environmental disasters currently. (Care2) A massive force that is pushing orangutans, a mankind s
closest relative, to extinction. A force that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I planned to reach my goal by keeping in mind the specifications I had set out to achieve. I focused on
one topic the whole time which was Environmental harm that Palm Oil was causing. I also have to
meet all my due dates and not procrastinate. First step was to get all the research done. I had some
great sources that combined really well to form the whole outline of my video as well as the body of
the video. I then started making my video which took me some time as I was working with a new
program. I also ran into some problems but I was still able to meet my due date. Since I am not a tech
person my video didn t turn out amazing or anything but it had all the important information so I think
the viewer understood the message. My other goal was to cover every aspect of palm oil such as; how
it affects the environment, and how it affects people. My main specifications are: to meet all my due
dates I set out for myself, find well rounded information on Palm oil and create a video that has all the
information I that covers everything.
Selection of Sources: I used 8 different sources that each focused on a different aspect of Palm Oil.
Source A was by far my favorite source it had all the information and it was organized very well. I
used that as my outline for my video, I just added more information from other sources. Some sources

A Dead Man s Path, By Chinua Achebe
Traditions throughout culture change with time, yet in most instances, a handful of people refuse to
change their methods or beliefs. In Dead Man s Path, Chinua Achebe creates a changing society and
presents a group of people who are unwilling to change their way of life and adapt. Achebe uses
symbols, allusions, characters, and setting development to give the reader an interpretation of the
changes made throughout society that creates a conflict between a new generation and an old
generation.
In A Dead Man s Path, Achebe uses the symbols of a path and a barbed wire fence to effectively
capture the conflicting ideas between a new and an old generation. Ani, the village priest, maintains
the importance of this path for he states that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1949, many African nations began their surge for independence, and the native people did not
accept the social modifications forced upon them. The revelation of the setting comes through the
name Ndume Central School which is a school located within the African nation of Nigeria (595).
Later, the setting reveals the deep divisions that take place in Africa at the time and allows the reader
to understand why the villagers resists change. The separation between the school and village
symbolizes the division, and this separation captures a modern school fighting a traditional village.
Obi enforces the separation with the moving of the path and states that this new path should [skirt] our
premises (597). The setting enhances the conflict between the villagers and Obi because the Africans
at the time resisted the change that Obi enforced within the school. The setting of the school and
village enhances the conflict because the school represents the transformation of society, while the
village captures the stubborn, old way of living.
Achebe produces a theme throughout A Dead Man s Path based on the conflict of change through the
path, a barbed wire fence, a biblical allusion, and setting throughout the story. The literary devices
allow for the reader to establish a strong interpretation of the effects of change and how people within
society refuse to adapt from their traditional ways. This story accurately captures the struggle between
a new generation and traditional way of life. Even with forced modernization, the refusal of change
causes conflict in an ever changing

George Zimmerman s Murder Case Analysis
These are two different cases of murder. One is supposedly out of self defense, and the other could
have been murder with intent, or accidental. It is unknown. Facts about the cases show that George
Zimmerman s murder trial could have been pressured by the public, assumedly because he killed a
black man, Trayvon Martin. Witnesses accounts and evidence from 911 calls support Zimmerman s
claim that he shot Trayvon out of self defense. Autopsy reports also indicated that Trayvon was shot at
a very close range. Witness accounts report that Trayvon was on top of Zimmerman, beating him up. It
was later reported that he had a broken nose and cuts on the back of his head (CNN Library (b), 2016).
These are evidence that aligns with Zimmerman s story of self defense.
The only mistake that Zimmerman committed was not following Trayvon as instructed by the police.
Zimmerman had called 911 to report a suspicious person in the neighborhood. He was then instructed
not to follow the person, but he did so anyway (CNN Library (b), 2016). For one to be charged with
murder according to the State of Florida s laws, he or she must have unlawfully killed a person
constituting first degree, second degree or third degree murders (The Florida Legislature, 2016). The
facts show that Zimmerman had no intention of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For Zimmerman s case, the Jurors had an adequate understanding of the law and made the right
decision to acquit him of murder. The media already branded him a murderer even before trial, but the
Jurors managed to play their role as expected. Richard (2014) indicates that the media controls great
influence in the society. In most cases, they help determine what topics to talk about and the direction
of the topic. That is why in the crimes with widespread media coverage, the jurors, prosecutors and
defendants face difficult challenges. The Jurors may develop some bias towards the victims and judge
the defendants guilty in a case

Rush Week Essay
During rush week, I was required to talk to potential new members for my fraternity. I had many
conversations with freshman and a couple of sophomores is one big group. The PNMs and I discussed
a wide range of topics. One particular guy I was talking to was actually a friend of mine who was the
only sophomore at the rush events. He and I talked about how great our freshman year was and how
much we hated a certain person.
In our main conversation, we discussed about how he wanted to be a part of a bigger idea and
fortunately our mutual friend referred him to my fraternity. My friend told me how he doesn t want

emotion, there was a variety of emotions actually displayed in our conversations from both sides. We
both have displayed disgust, happiness, neutral, excitement, and frustration. When we talked about the
girl we hated he displayed all of the emotions listed above except happiness. I did the same depending
on his stories. Our show of happiness and excitement were displayed when we both discovered that
we both hate a particular girl and that he was rushing my Fraternity. Disgust and excitement was

Expectancy Violation Theory Summary
Chiles and Roloff use Expectancy Violation Theory to understand the relationship between
expectations and responses to apologies. Chiles and Roloff clarify that EVT assumes that individuals
form expectations for the normative and prescriptive rules guiding (communicative) interactions with
others, and when those expectations are violated individuals become cognitively aroused. At that
point, based on factors such as the situation, the context, and the relationship itself, individuals
consciously or unconsciously attribute a valence, positive or negative, to the violation. EVT is one of
the most widely used theoretical perspectives on expectations and communication behavior, and has
been applied to a variety of novel contexts. However, no studies ... Show more content on

K., Bennett, M., and Goffman, E. Once again, using EVT as their perspective, this article focuses on
the degree to which people expect apologies to be accepted, the extent to which they are
accepted/rejected and how offenders view expected and unexpected responses. Chiles and Roloff
found that while accepting an apology is positively evaluated by apologizers, this relationship is
moderated by their expectations of acceptance prior to the actual response to the apology. According
to EVT, the stronger an expectation is, the more it matters whether an individual violates it or not. The
more an apologizer believes an apology will be accepted, the more positively they will view
adherence to this expectation. Consequently, violations or deviations from increasingly strong
expectations will be viewed more negatively. Drawing on the framework of EVT, the researchers
predict and confirm that acceptance of an apology would be positively related to the evaluation of said
response, but this relationship would be moderated by the expectations the apologizer had for
acceptance. Chiles and Roloff found that a limitation to their experiment is that communicative
behavior is the driving behavior to the response of an apology, not expectations. However,
expectations are still an important factor determinate whether or not a person will forgive someone
who has hurt

How Osmosis Affects A Potato
Aim: To See How Osmosis Affects A Potato

In this case, the tiny holes in the membrane of the potatoes will allow the water molecules to pass
through in and out of the solution and the potato, depending on the concentration gradient of the two
substances. So in this case, when the water concentration is lower, the water will go inside the potato,
and the potato will gain mass. If there is very little different in the two water concentrations, there
shouldn t be such a big change in mass.
Also if there is a higher concentration of water in the potato, then the water will go out of the potato
and into the liquid solution, as osmosis is the movement of water molecules from a region of high
concentration to a region of low concentration, through a partially permeable membrane.
Preliminary Plan
1. Two test tubes and put them in a test tube rack
2. Fill both test tubes with the same amount of water about 1/3 of the way full.
3. In one of the test tubes add sugar and mix it in with the water
4. Label this test tube sugar
5. Using a borer get two pieces of potato and cut the ends off.
6. Make sure that they are both the same size and weigh them
7. With a stop clock time 5 minutes for both of the potatoes bits when they have been dropped in the
water so they both have the same amount of time.
8. After they have been in for 5minutes take them out with a pair of tweezers and get rid of any excess

Edward Jenner s Disease
The scientist I decided to write about is Edward Jenner who lived from 1749 1823. He was born in
Berkeley, Gloucestershire, England (The Jenner Institute, 2015). His father was a preacher and died
when Edward was five years old, orphaning Edward (Famous Scientists, 2015, Riedel, 2005). He went
to school in Wotton under Edge and Cirencester (The Jenner Institute, 2015). While he was attending
school, his older brother inoculated him for a disease called smallpox when he was only eight years
(Adler, 2004, The Jenner Institute, 2015). When Jenner was 14 years old, he studied under a surgeon,
Daniel Ludlow, for 7 years where he learned about surgical and medical practice (The Jenner Institute,
2015, Riedel, 2005). In the year 1770 at the age of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

an instrument of protection against smallpox. In 1796, Edward Jenner came in contact with a
dairymaid named Sarah Nelmes. Nelmes had cowpox and had lesions on her arms and hands. Jenner
transferred some fluid from her lesions and inoculated an 8 year old boy with it. The boy ended up
getting a mild fever and felt some discomfort, was cold and lost his appetite, but recovered after about
10 days (Riedel, 2005). A month later, Jenner inoculated the same boy with fresh fluid from a
smallpox pustule. The boy developed a few pustules but did not get the disease. (Adler, 2004). Jenner
concluded that the boy was protected against smallpox and that he had just discovered a way to
prevent the disease (Riedel,

A Review Of The Story Of A Odyssey
Estefane Sanchez Homeroom 306 September Ulysses and his men were sailing once again through the

saw them rowing without motivation as if they were giving up on returning home to their families or
loved ones. It surprised him because for ten years that was the only thing they wanted to leave Troy
and return to their homes in the Greek Islands but they all looked wretched and starved; lifeless. He

they commanded each other not knowing what to do. Changing courses every so often not knowing
where to head but that all they knew was that they wanted to reach land. He started shouting curses at
them, scratching at the ropes breaking his nails that he started bleeding, he was very angry, red was

Rappaccini s Daughter And The Birthmark By Nathaniel...
The Interrogated Science Science is one of the most important factors that many science fictions deal
with. Some of them describe the positive and useful side of science such as the description of sciences
like mathematics, physics, chemistry and many other fields of study. While some of the other science
fictions describe the dangerous sides of science that can hurt and even kill human beings. Concerning
this idea, Nathaniel Hawthorne is one of the American writers of the mid nineteenth century who
writes about art and science. This paper will describe the sort of science that need to be interrogated

different scientific experiment on both human beings and plants. He is a famous doctor by which his

member of the faculty with perhaps one single exception in Padua or all Italy. But there are certain
grave objections to his professional character (Hawthrone 4). It means that Doctor Rappaccini is as far
as he is a good scientist, he has some issues with his character. One of these issues, as Dr. Aylmer has,
is his concentration on science more than mankind (4). He deals with his patients as if they are only

Comparing The Pantheon And San Vitale
This paper will compare the architecture, history, art theme, religion and the location behind the two
buildings: The Pantheon, and San Vitale. Overview: The Pantheon was built in Rome, Italy during the
reign of Augustus (27 BCE 14 CE). It is a religious building dedicated to all gods, which is the
meaning of its name. Almost 2000 years after it was built, its dome was the biggest largest dome that
did not need any reinforcement from steel. It is also the best preserved temple of the ancient time. San
Vitale was built in Ravenna, Italy during the reign of Justinian. It is one of the most important
examples of early Christian Byzantine churches. The construction began in 526 CE. It is inscribed in
UNESCO World Heritage List. History: The Pantheon went through many different changes. It was
first built by Marcus Agrippa, a Roman statesman, general, and architect. The Pantheon was part of a
major complex Marcus Agrippa created called Campus Martius, having consisted of the Baths of
Agrippa, the Basilica of Neptune, and the Pantheon. The building s original design by Agrippa was
uncertain, excavations, however, have suggested that this building was already circular (although
probably open to the sky) and orientated in the same direction (Hannah, and Magli, 487). Some say
the original building of Agrippa was rectangular instead of round, and faced the south, not the north

Fenian Movement
The word Fenian comes from Irish folklore. It is described as an ancient group of knights who were
independent and had a form of nationalism for their homeland of Ireland. According to the legend,
Irish rebels who were known as knights gave up a chance for world dominion by leaving their country
to keep Ireland alive, through their pride for the country. In 1848, a movement struck in Ireland, to
achieve independence from England by using force. The movement was led by a group of
revolutionaries called Young Ireland. This movement was led by William Smith O Brian. Also a part

Death and famine were causing the people to suffer in Ireland.
Landlords were trying to find the problem to the deaths. Landlords knew exactly what to do. They
evicted hundreds and thousands of peasants, because the work was not getting done (Considine 76).
Unemployment was the view of the workers due to soldiers coming home from the Napoleonic Wars
and more people were dying from disease. As the farmlands of Ireland were being cleaned out, over
the period of time, emigration increased at an excessive rate. Many Irish residents left for America and
other English speaking countries. During the famine, nearly one million people sought a new and
richer life in the United States. Ship owners crowded hundreds of Irish onto boats, later labeled coffin
ships (Ruddy 43). These ships reached port only after losing a third of their passengers to disease,
hunger and other causes. While Britain provided much relief for Ireland s starving population, many
Irish criticized Britain s delayed response and further blamed centuries of British political oppression
to underline the causes of the famine. As depression continued in Ireland, two million more people left
to seek this new life. But even leaving wasn t the cure. The Irish were already stressed out due to the
economy caused by its Poor Law System.

Critical Review Sam I Am Essay
Critical Review: I Am Sam The movie, I am Sam, is the portrayal of a mentally retarded single parent
struggling to maintain custody of his normal intelligence daughter. Within his circle of acquaintances
are four special needs adults who are his close friends and two normal intelligence adults who exhibit
disordered behavior. The writers, Kristin Johnson and Jessie Nelson, spent months researching and
observing developmentally disabled adults in order to provide an accurate representation of the issues
faced by the special needs population. The central character is Sam Dawson around whom the movie
is woven. Sean Penn, the actor who took the role of Sam, spent time at an organization called LA Goal

Two of the normal intelligence people in the film appeared more disabled than the above mentioned
five characters. Sam s neighbor, Annie, suffered from agoraphobia and was unable to leave her

compulsive stress eater, had anger explosions, was unable to focus, lacked parenting skills, and
exhibited relationship issues not only within her marriage but with her staff. The normal people
painted a portrait of being more handicapped than the disabled. The plight of Sam to maintain his
parental rights is one that is faced by the disabled community not only in the USA but abroad. They
lack the support services needed to help them thrive and raise their children. According to O Keeffe
and O Hara little is known about the mental health needs of parents with intellectual disabilities. (O

removed from their care. He fought the best battle he could against a well meaning social worker,
prosecutor, and foster parent. His friends came to his aid to testify on his behalf although their ability
to support him was not effective. O Keeffe and O Hara also state that in the USA there are

Indians Vs. The Constitution Essay
They are Native Americans who are trying to build better lives for themselves but are stopped in there
tracks by the state supreme court. Proposition 5 passed in November of 98, which would allow more
gambling in the Indian reservations. The proposition was ruled to be unconstitutional. Now the
Indians are rebutting the fact that they are sovereign and the ballot was passed.
Under existing law, Indian tribes operate as semi sovereign nations, and are liable under federal law
only. Recently, the long standing political and legal tension between the Indians and the government,
which has characterized the relationship since colonization, has entered into the debate over tribal
gaming. Indian gaming is not new to California. In fact, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many tribes contend that, as sovereign nations, they are not subject to state regulation. The state has
demanded the tribes to cease their gambling operations and enter into an agreement with the state,
which will allow quot;legal quot; tribal gaming. Some tribes have agreed to Wilson s demands,
recently signing the Wilson Pala Compact that provides state control of tribal gaming and also
establishes a limit on the size of gaming operations. The majority of tribes have refused to agree to the
terms of the Wilson Pala Compact, however, claiming that it is inflexible and grants the state too much
power over tribal affairs.
Proposition 5 provides the terms of a tribal gaming compact and requires the Governor to permit any
tribe to enter into the compact upon request. In general terms, Proposition 5 s compact contains fewer
restrictions upon tribal gaming than is provided for in the Wilson Pala Compact and is more protective
of Indian sovereignty. The differences relate to such diverse issues as the number of slot machines
permitted, the type of games authorized, the degree of state involvement in regulating tribal gaming,
employee rights, local community involvement, liability provisions, and the applicability of state
health and safety requirements.
Two constitutional concerns arise from the language of the proposition. The first is whether the
proposition establishes a statute, or

Why have they evolved that way? What does the future look like? Cisco is the leader in the switches

Remaining Elements Of IIED Against Nicole Kidman ( Nicole )
Sally Thompson (Sally) cannot successfully state a cause of action for IIED against Nicole Kidman
(Nicole). Under Illinois law, in order to claim IIED, it must be proven that (1) the conduct involved
must be truly extreme and outrageous, (2) the actor must either intend that his conduct will inflict
severe emotional distress, or know that there is at least a high probability that his conduct will cause
severe emotional distress, and (3) the conduct must in fact cause severe emotional distress. [McGrath

To prove extreme and outrageous conduct, there are considerations that the conduct must fulfill.
[CITE] First, the power or authority the actor has and whether or the actor abused that power.
{cite]Second, whether the actor had an illegitimate objective behind their conduct. Third, the actor

Religion And Religion In The Canterbury Tales By Geoffrey...
Religion is often seen in a good light, but the same does not necessarily apply to those who follow
said religion. In The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer explores this contrast between religion and
follower, during the medieval period. The work tells of a group of pilgrims on their way to Canterbury
to pray to Saint Thomas Becket, who are given the challenge of telling the best tale. In the Prologue
the simple minded narrator describes all the people on the journey and their characters. These travelers
come from various classes, occupations, and attributes; ordinarily, this includes people that are part of
the Christian church. Using the natures of the Friar, Monk, and Parson in particular, Chaucer shows

These amounts of tax savings should be added to the incremental cost savings for each year to come
up with the total cash inflows. The present value of all these cash inflows and outflows can be
calculated by discounting them at 12.19%. This rate is calculated by assuming that the purchasing
power parity holds in this scenario. The company can do the feasibility analysis by looking at both
from the subsidiary s and parent s perspective by assuming that the purchasing power parity holds.
Hence, this rate can be regarded as opportunity cost of investment because it is the second best
alternative for the company for investment purposes. So, the NPV can be calculated by taking the sum
of present values of all the cash flows. This NPV comes out to be 3,703,176 Pesos. This NPV value
can be converted into Euros by dividing the NPV value by the spot exchange rate. The spot exchange
rate is 15.99 MXN/EURO. Hence, by dividing 3,703,176 by 15.99, NPV value in terms of Euro comes

Idi Amin As A Leader That Abuse The Power
Throughout history there have been many leaders who abuse the power that has been bestowed upon
them. A person who abuses such power is considered a dictator, tyrant, despot, etc. These dictators
typically rule through fear, and don t usually win the hearts of many. They will do whatever it takes to
stay in power over the country that they rule. One such ruler is named Idi Amin. Idi was a ruler who
abused his power and saw himself as someone who was a man of influence.
Idi Amin was born on 1925 in Koboka, Uganda (History.com). He was raised with little to no
education, but quickly found his place in the world. He joined the King s African Rifles (KAR) and
quickly rose through the ranks.Milton Obote had become the first prime minister of Uganda in 1962.
He had forged an alliance with Amin, who helped expand the size of the Ugandan military. After a few
assassination attempts, Obote began to question Amin s loyalty and ordered his arrest. When the
leader of Uganda was away, Amin staged a coup and seized the government. Idi took the government
with blood, which isn t surprising due to his reputation (History.com).
Idi earned his reputation through the killing of about 500,000 people (History.com). He started off by
executing members of the Acholi and Lango tribes that had been loyal to Obote, and set up agencies to
eliminate anyone opposed to his regime. Within his rule he expelled Uganda s entire Asian population,

Social Scandals in the Mystery Genre
In the mystery genre one can agree that for a mystery to function as it does, it must have elements like
a case that must be solved, a detective or someone who is playing as the detective, and, in most cases,
murder. But in the short story A Scandal in Bohemia, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, a social scandal is a
part of the theme, which is also seen in Witness for the Prosecution, by Agatha Christie and Amber
Gate, by Walter Mosley. Just as a murder or a crime disrupts an aspect of society, a social scandal
functions the same way. Normally, what we view as the private life and public life is kept separately
because private life operates as the fantasy of the two worlds by creating the image of a normal life ,

Gunpowder Plot Analysis
Macbeth is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare that was published in 1623. The Gunpowder
Plot of November 5, 1605 was an attempt to assassinate King James the I of England. The Gunpowder
Plot of 1605 and Shakespeare s Macbeth seem to be unrelated at first, but upon closer analyzation, the
two are closely related. The two are related because of the influence that the Gunpowder Plot had on
the plot of Macbeth. The themes of high treason, conspiracy and execution are themes from the
Gunpowder plot that influenced the plot of Macbeth.
The Gunpowder Plot was a plan to kill King James I of England. Assassinating the King of England is
bad enough, but conspirators did not stop there. The conspirators also wanted to kill the queen, her
first born son, and members of parliament (source: Britannica). The Gunpowder Plot was lead by
Robert Catesby and included four other conspirators. The four other conspirators were Thomas
Winter,Thomas Percy, John Wright, and Guy Fawkes. All of the conspirators were zealous Roman
Catholics angered by James s refusal to grant more religious toleration to Catholics. The conspirators
wanted English Catholics to take over England after the King and his parliament were out of the
picture.
The conspirators of the Gunpowder Plot wanted to (literally) blow up King James and his parliament
members. Conspirators were going to do so by igniting kegs of powder under the room that parliament
was going to meet in with the King. The conspirators rented a cell under where parliament was to
meet. Then, during the summer of 1605 the conspirators smuggled kegs of gunpowder into the rented
room. As the plot progressed more conspirators needed to be recruited. The additional conspiracy
members were: Robert Wintour, Christopher Wright, Francis Tresham, Everard Digby, Ambrose
Rookwood, Thomas Bates, Robert Keyes, Hough Owens, and John Grant
(www.historylearningsite.co.uk).
The day before the kegs of gunpowder were set to be ignited, the plot was discovered. The plot was
discovered, in the official version, through an anonymous letter to Lord Monteagle, a Catholic,
warning him not to attend the State Opening. Whether the letter was genuine or a forgery is uncertain.
In any event, on the 4 November

Washing a Car for Idiots My car is always dirty from driving around in fields and dirt roads. I have

soap you use plays a big role in how shiny and clean your car will get. I have found that the best soap

Take the hose out of the bucket and start spraying your car. To ensure that your don t miss any areas
break your car up into five areas top ,two sides, front, and back. You start at the top of your car so that
the dirt on top does not run down onto parts of the car that you have already cleaned. On the top of the
car, first you wet the entire roof with water. Second grab you sponge that has been soaking in your
soap and bubbles and cover the entire roof with suds. Third rinse off the top of the car Making sure no
suds are left. After that re soak your sponge in the bucket and re apply to the roof. The reason you
apply the suds to the roof twice it to ensure all the dirt is removed and it is thoroughly cleaned. After
you finish the roof you can move on to the next section of your car. Repeat the same steps you did for
the roof on each of the other four sections. This will ensure that all the dirt and grime is removed from
the car. Once you have finished washing the body and windows of your car you can move down to the
rims and tires. The tires and rims are washed last so that the sponge doesn t get gravel stuck in it and
therefor the gravel will scratch the body paint on the car. The same process for washing the car is
applied to the rims and tires.
The third step for having a clean and sparkling car is to hand dry the car after you are finished
washing it. The reason you hand dry it is so no watermarks or soap stains are left behind. It usually
takes about two beach towels to dry the whole car. To dry the car properly use the wax on wax off
method that Mr. Miyagi taught in the karate kid. Once the car is wiped down take it for a sort drive

Desertification Essay
It is widely recognized that desertification is a serious peril to dryland and semi dryland environments,
which cover approximately 40% of the global land surface and populate millions of humans. The
global drylands face an innumerable amount of problems that present tough and perplexing research,
management and policy challenges. Desertification is the degradation of grasslands, savannas, and

education in teaching sustainable practices helping farmers/residents to understand how to best use the

Physical Appearance
The first form of nonverbal communication that plays a significant role in influencing the voting
behavior is the physical appearance of candidates. The analytical study by Olivola and Todorov (2010)
states that today s politics have become so extremely intricate and incomprehensible that it is almost
impossible for voters to genuinely agree to every aspect of the candidates views. For instance, it is
highly conceivable for voters to agree on international and security issues with one candidate and
agree on economic issues with the other candidate at the same time. Hence, the number of the voters
who are unfamiliar with the intricacies of political issues and unmotivated to study candidates policy
as a criterion for making their choice has increased (Olivola Todorov, 2010). In addition, according to
Olivola and Todorov (2010), the field of cognitive psychology indicates that people s minds tend to
simplify decision making process by relying on simple rules when they are confronted with too much
information. As a result, instead of behaving as rational actors and voting reasonably as they are
believed to do so, voters are hugely influenced by and unconsciously opt for irrelevant cues, which in
this case, the candidates physical appearance.

As the years rolled on the fight for enfranchisement grew more heated. Suffragette protests gradually
became more violent. The WSPU began to drift away from the leaflet and tea party tactics used by the
NUWSS. In November 1911 the Concillation Bill was dropped. The supporters of womens suffrage
were incensed. They organised window smashing across central London, leaders were imprsioned,
once an axe was thown at Prime Minister Asquith narrowly missng him. The Prime Minister was
against womens suffrage, and this violence casued by the suffragettes gave him the perfect excuse not

aspects is true, in today s society if groups of people have a belief they protest! Some violently and
some peacefully (such as Martin Luther Kings followers) whether or not these peopleare now inspired

The cases that I am most afraid of encountering is cases that involve deceased children, or children

children are so manipulative that a lot of people can just lure them to follow whatever they want. On

husband Danielle s father Damon Van Dam stayed home with the children. Damon put everyone to

Damon woke up to socialize with them. At around 3 am they left and the Van Dam s went to sleep, but

Gender Role In Men And Women In The 1960 s
During the 1950 s 1960 s men and women followed strict gender roles that complied with society s
expectation at the time. Women played domestic roles in which it was implied they were only useful
in the kitchen and taking care of their husbands. Throughout this time period it was more important
for women marry a man than it was to attend college and be educated. Some women had college
degrees and still chose to be housewives. At the time even secondary schools prepared young girls for
this type of role; lessons were given in cookery, household management, darning, sewing and even
how to iron a shirt properly. Women were prepared to take on the housewife role both at school and at
home; housewives did not have a career so they depended on their husband. Sexism was rampant
during this era; the attitude carried over into advertising, which did little to advance gender roles and
ran advertisements that implied women were idiots who cared mostly about pleasing their men.
Advertisements often implied that women were only useful in kitchen, cooking and taking care of the
kids. Image A displays a women in the kitchen looking outside the kitchen window at her husband
with her daughter. The kitchen is portrayed with light white, yellow, and beige colors. The
advertisement has a caption placed at the bottom and it states, Women don t leave the kitchen! The
caption was the quote in a big font and then in a smaller font it talks about how a woman s place is in
the kitchen. The purpose

Critical Analysis Of Shrek
`Shrek is the ultimate fractured fairy tale, a film that manages to simultaneously honor and lampoon
the conventions of its genre without becoming smug or condescending in the process. For while it is
sardonic, `Shrek is never cynical, so confident and assured are its makers in establishing and
maintaining just the right tone for a revisionist exercise such as this one. The film certainly conveys a
modern sensibility, yet it is a gentle sort of iconoclasm that allows us to enjoy the more conventional
aspects of the story (the happily ever after ending, for example) even as we are laughing at the obvious
absurdities contained within them.
The revisionism begins with Shrek himself, as unromantic a figure as has ever earned the title of `hero
in a fairy tale adventure. For Shrek is an ogre, plain and simple, an ugly, cranky, decidedly standoffish
beast who wants nothing more than to rid his swamp of all the classic fairy tale figures (Pinocchio, the
Three Little Pigs, The Three Bears, The Three Blind Mice et al), who have been consigned there by
the dastardly Lord Farquaad, who is attempting to purge his land of all those bothersome folkloric
personalities. To earn the deed to his land and thereby have authority to evict the squatters, Shrek
agrees to go in search of the beautiful Princess Fiona, rescue her from her dragon guarded castle, and
bring her back for Lord Farquaad to marry (thereby earning the latter the legitimate title of Prince of
the Land). Of course, every

Analysis Of Robert Hayden s Frederick Douglas
Robert Hayden has been considered one of America s best African American poets of the modern era.
He did not consider himself to be a black poet but liked to think of himself as an American poet. He
was a first in many ways, including the awards he won, his style of writing, and the level of success he
had even tho he was a negro poet. Robert Hayden was a great poet. Robert Hayden was born on
August 4, 1913 in Detroit Michigan to Asa and Ruth Sheffey. His birth name was Asa Bundy Sheffey
put his name changed to Robert Hayden when he was adopted because his parents had split up before
he was born. His foster parents lived next door to his biological parents. His foster parents constantly
fought in front of him which deeply bothered him. Like every little boy he wanted to play sports

He tells us how in the winter, his father would be up before everyone else to warm up the house so
that they wouldn t be so cold when they got out of bed. Robert was hesitant to come out of his room
because he was afraid of the chronic angers of the house which is referring to how his foster parents
always fought. Their fighting had always deeply troubled him. Hayden wrote Frederick Douglas
because his story was a source of inspiration to him. The poem is about the struggles of the African
Americans during the age of slavery and how they fought through it and how people like Frederick
Douglas will be remembered as nothing more than a fighter and a symbol to represent how far the
black population has come and how their fight is not yet over. The Middle Passage is about the
Africans journey to America where they will be sold into slavery and how tragic it was. It explains in
detail how inhuman and terrible it was. It tells how many of the Africans died at sea, how disease ran
rampant due no sanitation and tight quarters, just in general how horrible the whole ordeal was. And
that was just the

The Following Includes Course Language, Viewer Discretion...
WARNING: The following includes course language, viewer discretion is advised
Everyday from the moment we wake up, we live our lives caring what other people think of us.
We accept the status quo for what it is because everyone around us does.
We tip toe our way through life by doing things in order to please others, not because it s what we
believe in. Eventually our actions, appearances, and lives become molded by how we think other
people perceive us.
Wow I can t wear this dress people are going to think I m fat. I can t talk to so and so because
everyone would get mad at me. If I did this what would my friends think of me, what would they say?
Ahhh just saying those sentences gives me a headache. It is hard enough taking care of yourself let
alone trying to impress every other person in this world. Having to live up to society and other peoples
ideals of how you should be or how you should do things, its dreadful.
Now, while not giving a fuck may seem simple on the surface, its a whole new can of beans in real
life. What I m trying to say is that we are all going to struggle with these things on a day to day basis,
we can t just read something like this and tell ourselves, TODAY is the day I will stop giving a fuck
...don t we wish it were that easy. The truth is sometimes we give a fuck about to many things in
situations where the fucks do not deserve to be given. We give a fuck about that cute boy from the bar
not texting us back, we give a fuck about how many

The Race Of American History
Who s next? It seems that the issue about race in American history never reaches an endpoint. The
intersection of race, gender, contradiction has been continually crucial to shape the identity of
minority American. As early as the first wave of Asian immigrants, Chinese immigrants, arrived in
west coast, Asian Americans was haunted by anti Asian movement and intense hostility. Foreign
Miners Tax passed in 1852 was a representative of racial campaign between whites and nonwhites.
The requirement of monthly three dollars tax intentionally crashed the earliest American Dream of
Chinese immigrants who expected to lead a better life in the US. Such Anti Asian movement was
eventually ushered into legalized level. California Supreme Court declared in People v. Hall in 1854
that Chinese migrants were not entitled to testify against the white citizens in US court based on the
fact that people, other than whites, could never enjoy the same rights as white Americans. Since then,
Asian immigrants were subjected to numerous social and legislative initiatives that specifically
targeted them on a racial basis. In David Henry Huang s semiautobiographical play Yellow Face, he
mixed his own memory and fiction to depicting an image of Asian American racial identity. In 1990,
Hwang led a group of Asian Americans to protest the casting of a white British actor as a Eurasian
character in the musical Miss Saigon. However, later in his own play Face Value, he mistakenly casted
a white actor,

Burke Reading Interview Summary
Procedures This study followed three procedures: (1) the Burke Reading Interview (BRI) (Burke,
1987), (2) a Reading Miscue Inventory (RMI) (Goodman, 1973b), and (3) a Retrospective Miscue
Analysis (RMA) (Goodman, Y. Marek, 1996). In the forthcoming sections, I will explain in detail the
protocols required for each of these procedures. The Burke Reading Interview (BRI). The BRI
provides information about the reader s metalinguistic knowledge and about her/his beliefs about
reading and her/himself as a reader. This interview enlightens the reader s identity and her/his
individual understanding of the reading processes.I conducted the BRI interviews using the Spanish

Liar Liar Pants On Fire Analysis
Liar Liar, Pants on Fire my kindergarten friends used to tease. I liked the phrase, though. Not because
it stopped people from lying, but because I knew that lying wouldn t set my pants on fire, so I could
lie all that I wanted with no repercussions. The way that we perceive lying is pretty funny. Everyone
knows that it s a bad thing to do, and yet, we justify it with the concept of white lies . And maybe it s
this notion that there exists a form of lying that isn t bad that alleviates the stigma on lying for me.
Perhaps that s what makes Huck feel so justified when he lies too.
And this notion that lying is acceptable is terribly toxic. Because of one or two instances in which
there may be a benefit to lying, this acts as a gateway to widespread lying. And that poisons one s self
and their relationships. I guess I was a bit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Huck is just a character in a book, words on a page, and he s able to say, I don t want to lie . Why do I
have to let such an unnecessary action control me? Why can t I be free? Maybe it s because I m not a
character in a book because I m not just a figment of some author s imagination. Maybe, in reality,
temptation will surround me in ways in which I don t even realize, and that attempting to fight back is
futile. Bob and I eventually drifted apart, and maybe it s because I left the afterschool we both went to,
and then we no longer were friends. When did Bob change from an actual friend to a school friend?
When I found him telling someone else that his favorite color was green. When I found out that we
were compatible without lies, but these lies cast a veil over our eyes, distorting what we knew about
each other, that was when our friendship really started to change. Maybe, rather than trying to not
succumb to temptations, I should just try to prevent it from toxifying my

1. In President Obama s speech at West Point, he announced that 30,000 additional troops would be
sent to Afghanistan. He made this decision because he said it was vital to the United States national
interest. The vital national interest at risk in President Obama s address is the security and safety of the
American people as well as the security of our allies and the common security of the world. By
involving the military and increasing the troop strength, President Obama can achieve the objectives
of his strategy. His objectives are to keep the Taliban from becoming powerful, prevent them from

In order to advance the vital interests of the United States, we need a military that is equipped with
best of everything and the backing of a nation to use them to defend our national interests and goals
when needed.
2. The National Defense Strategy (NDS) counterbalances the Defense Departments tendency to focus
on winning conventional conflicts rather than irregular wars by empowering those small nations to
improve the security of their countries to prevent conflicts from happening. The NDS focuses on the
different irregular warfare tactics that can be used by our enemies in the strategic environment. It
gives us guidance on what we need to do to prevent the use of these irregular warfare tactics. It was
not until the last decade that the U.S. military started fighting the irregular wars; our Special Forces
units were the ones that were fighting the unconventional wars. The U.S. military has had a difficult
time changing its focus on fighting conventional wars to fighting irregular wars. During the Vietnam
War, the U.S. military became very experienced in guerrilla warfare tactics. However, when that war
ended the focus shifted back to fighting the conventional wars and that experience was lost. Now,
because of the lack of experience, the U.S. military is having a difficult time fighting the
unconventional wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The 2008 NDS attempts to counterbalance the focus on
conventional wars by emphasizing

Innovator Speculation And Its Effect On The Body And For...
Innovator speculation was equipped towards the masses and for the great of society; for instance,

I narrowed it down to two topics which were : Palm Oil Destruction and China Pollution. I already knew quite a lot about both of the topics, but I decided to go with a topic that affects us and the world. Therefore, I chose Palm Oil Destruction which affects us in many ways. I will make a video about an environmental issue and post it on Youtube, to gain awareness and to learn more about this topic, those are my goals. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I planned to reach my goal by keeping in mind the specifications I had set out to achieve. I focused on one topic the whole time which was Environmental harm that Palm Oil was causing. I also have to meet all my due dates and not procrastinate. First step was to get all the research done. I had some great sources that combined really well to form the whole outline of my video as well as the body of the video. I then started making my video which took me some time as I was working with a new program. I also ran into some problems but I was still able to meet my due date. Since I am not a tech person my video didn t turn out amazing or anything but it had all the important information so I think the viewer understood the message. My other goal was to cover every aspect of palm oil such as; how it affects the environment, and how it affects people. My main specifications are: to meet all my due dates I set out for myself, find well rounded information on Palm oil and create a video that has all the information I that covers everything. Selection of Sources: I used 8 different sources that each focused on a different aspect of Palm Oil. Source A was by far my favorite source it had all the information and it was organized very well. In Dead Man s Path, Chinua Achebe creates a changing society and presents a group of people who are unwilling to change their way of life and adapt. Achebe uses symbols, allusions, characters, and setting development to give the reader an interpretation of the changes made throughout society that creates a conflict between a new generation and an old generation. In 1949, many African nations began their surge for independence, and the native people did not accept the social modifications forced upon them. The revelation of the setting comes through the name Ndume Central School which is a school located within the African nation of Nigeria (595). Later, the setting reveals the deep divisions that take place in Africa at the time and allows the reader to understand why the villagers resists change. The separation between the school and village symbolizes the division, and this separation captures a modern school fighting a traditional village. Obi enforces the separation with the moving of the path and states that this new path should [skirt] our premises (597). The setting enhances the conflict between the villagers and Obi because the Africans at the time resisted the change that Obi enforced within the school. The setting of the school and village enhances the conflict because the school represents the transformation of society, while the village captures the stubborn, old way of living. Achebe produces a theme throughout A Dead Man s Path based on the conflict of change through the path, a barbed wire fence, a biblical allusion, and setting throughout the story. The literary devices allow for the reader to establish a strong interpretation of the effects of change and how people within society refuse to adapt from their traditional ways. This story accurately captures the struggle between a new generation and traditional way of life. Even with forced modernization, the refusal of change causes conflict in an ever changing ... • 7. George Zimmerman s Murder Case Analysis These are two different cases of murder. One is supposedly out of self defense, and the other could have been murder with intent, or accidental. It is unknown. Facts about the cases show that George Zimmerman s murder trial could have been pressured by the public, assumedly because he killed a black man, Trayvon Martin. Witnesses accounts and evidence from 911 calls support Zimmerman s claim that he shot Trayvon out of self defense. Autopsy reports also indicated that Trayvon was shot at a very close range. Witness accounts report that Trayvon was on top of Zimmerman, beating him up. It was later reported that he had a broken nose and cuts on the back of his head (CNN Library (b), 2016). These are evidence that aligns with Zimmerman s story of self defense. The only mistake that Zimmerman committed was not following Trayvon as instructed by the police. Zimmerman had called 911 to report a suspicious person in the neighborhood. He was then instructed not to follow the person, but he did so anyway (CNN Library (b), 2016). • 9. Expectancy Violation Theory Summary Chiles and Roloff use Expectancy Violation Theory to understand the relationship between expectations and responses to apologies. Chiles and Roloff clarify that EVT assumes that individuals form expectations for the normative and prescriptive rules guiding (communicative) interactions with others, and when those expectations are violated individuals become cognitively aroused. At that point, based on factors such as the situation, the context, and the relationship itself, individuals consciously or unconsciously attribute a valence, positive or negative, to the violation. EVT is one of the most widely used theoretical perspectives on expectations and communication behavior, and has been applied to a variety of novel contexts. However, no studies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... K., Bennett, M., and Goffman, E. Once again, using EVT as their perspective, this article focuses on the degree to which people expect apologies to be accepted, the extent to which they are accepted/rejected and how offenders view expected and unexpected responses. Chiles and Roloff found that while accepting an apology is positively evaluated by apologizers, this relationship is moderated by their expectations of acceptance prior to the actual response to the apology. According to EVT, the stronger an expectation is, the more it matters whether an individual violates it or not. The more an apologizer believes an apology will be accepted, the more positively they will view adherence to this expectation. Consequently, violations or deviations from increasingly strong expectations will be viewed more negatively. Drawing on the framework of EVT, the researchers predict and confirm that acceptance of an apology would be positively related to the evaluation of said response, but this relationship would be moderated by the expectations the apologizer had for acceptance. Chiles and Roloff found that a limitation to their experiment is that communicative behavior is the driving behavior to the response of an apology, not expectations. However, expectations are still an important factor determinate whether or not a person will forgive someone who has hurt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this case, the tiny holes in the membrane of the potatoes will allow the water molecules to pass through in and out of the solution and the potato, depending on the concentration gradient of the two substances. So in this case, when the water concentration is lower, the water will go inside the potato, and the potato will gain mass. If there is very little different in the two water concentrations, there shouldn t be such a big change in mass. Also if there is a higher concentration of water in the potato, then the water will go out of the potato and into the liquid solution, as osmosis is the movement of water molecules from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration, through a partially permeable membrane. While some of the other science fictions describe the dangerous sides of science that can hurt and even kill human beings. Concerning this idea, Nathaniel Hawthorne is one of the American writers of the mid nineteenth century who writes about art and science. He is a famous doctor by which his name is heard as far as Naples. He makes a medication from strange plants like collecting the strange flowers in his garden. Signor Pietro Baglioni, one of the main characters of Rappaccini s Daughter story, describes Doctor Rappaccini when he says: Doctor Rappaccini has as much science as any member of the faculty with perhaps one single exception in Padua or all Italy. But there are certain grave objections to his professional character (Hawthrone 4). It means that Doctor Rappaccini is as far as he is a good scientist, he has some issues with his character. One of these issues, as Dr. Aylmer has, is his concentration on science more than mankind (4). He deals with his patients as if they are only experiments. • 16. Comparing The Pantheon And San Vitale This paper will compare the architecture, history, art theme, religion and the location behind the two buildings: The Pantheon, and San Vitale. Overview: The Pantheon was built in Rome, Italy during the reign of Augustus (27 BCE 14 CE). It is a religious building dedicated to all gods, which is the meaning of its name. Almost 2000 years after it was built, its dome was the biggest largest dome that did not need any reinforcement from steel. It is also the best preserved temple of the ancient time. San Vitale was built in Ravenna, Italy during the reign of Justinian. It is one of the most important examples of early Christian Byzantine churches. The construction began in 526 CE. It is inscribed in UNESCO World Heritage List. History: The Pantheon went through many different changes. It was first built by Marcus Agrippa, a Roman statesman, general, and architect. The Pantheon was part of a major complex Marcus Agrippa created called Campus Martius, having consisted of the Baths of Agrippa, the Basilica of Neptune, and the Pantheon. The building s original design by Agrippa was uncertain, excavations, however, have suggested that this building was already circular (although probably open to the sky) and orientated in the same direction (Hannah, and Magli, 487). It is described as an ancient group of knights who were independent and had a form of nationalism for their homeland of Ireland. According to the legend, Irish rebels who were known as knights gave up a chance for world dominion by leaving their country to keep Ireland alive, through their pride for the country. In 1848, a movement struck in Ireland, to achieve independence from England by using force. The movement was led by a group of revolutionaries called Young Ireland. The Gunpowder Plot of November 5, 1605 was an attempt to assassinate King James the I of England. The Gunpowder Plot of 1605 and Shakespeare s Macbeth seem to be unrelated at first, but upon closer analyzation, the two are closely related. The two are related because of the influence that the Gunpowder Plot had on the plot of Macbeth. The themes of high treason, conspiracy and execution are themes from the Gunpowder plot that influenced the plot of Macbeth. The Gunpowder Plot was a plan to kill King James I of England. Assassinating the King of England is bad enough, but conspirators did not stop there. The conspirators also wanted to kill the queen, her first born son, and members of parliament (source: Britannica). The Gunpowder Plot was lead by Robert Catesby and included four other conspirators. The four other conspirators were Thomas Winter,Thomas Percy, John Wright, and Guy Fawkes. All of the conspirators were zealous Roman Catholics angered by James s refusal to grant more religious toleration to Catholics. The conspirators wanted English Catholics to take over England after the King and his parliament were out of the picture. The conspirators of the Gunpowder Plot wanted to (literally) blow up King James and his parliament members. Conspirators were going to do so by igniting kegs of powder under the room that parliament was going to meet in with the King. The conspirators rented a cell under where parliament was to meet. Then, during the summer of 1605 the conspirators smuggled kegs of gunpowder into the rented room. As the plot progressed more conspirators needed to be recruited. The additional conspiracy members were: Robert Wintour, Christopher Wright, Francis Tresham, Everard Digby, Ambrose Rookwood, Thomas Bates, Robert Keyes, Hough Owens, and John Grant (www.historylearningsite.co.uk). The day before the kegs of gunpowder were set to be ignited, the plot was discovered. Second grab you sponge that has been soaking in your soap and bubbles and cover the entire roof with suds. Third rinse off the top of the car Making sure no suds are left. After that re soak your sponge in the bucket and re apply to the roof. The reason you apply the suds to the roof twice it to ensure all the dirt is removed and it is thoroughly cleaned. After you finish the roof you can move on to the next section of your car. Repeat the same steps you did for the roof on each of the other four sections. This will ensure that all the dirt and grime is removed from the car. Once you have finished washing the body and windows of your car you can move down to the rims and tires. The tires and rims are washed last so that the sponge doesn t get gravel stuck in it and therefor the gravel will scratch the body paint on the car. The same process for washing the car is applied to the rims and tires. The third step for having a clean and sparkling car is to hand dry the car after you are finished washing it. Desertification Essay It is widely recognized that desertification is a serious peril to dryland and semi dryland environments, which cover approximately 40% of the global land surface and populate millions of humans. The global drylands face an innumerable amount of problems that present tough and perplexing research, management and policy challenges. Desertification is the degradation of grasslands, savannas, and woodlands to a more desert like condition, with resulting decrease in plant production and the land s ability to support livestock grazing or other human uses. Physical Appearance The first form of nonverbal communication that plays a significant role in influencing the voting behavior is the physical appearance of candidates. The analytical study by Olivola and Todorov (2010) states that today s politics have become so extremely intricate and incomprehensible that it is almost impossible for voters to genuinely agree to every aspect of the candidates views. For instance, it is highly conceivable for voters to agree on international and security issues with one candidate and agree on economic issues with the other candidate at the same time. Hence, the number of the voters who are unfamiliar with the intricacies of political issues and unmotivated to study candidates policy as a criterion for making their choice has increased (Olivola Todorov, 2010). In addition, according to Olivola and Todorov (2010), the field of cognitive psychology indicates that people s minds tend to simplify decision making process by relying on simple rules when they are confronted with too much information. As a result, instead of behaving as rational actors and voting reasonably as they are believed to do so, voters are hugely influenced by and unconsciously opt for irrelevant cues, which in this case, the candidates physical appearance. Small local groups had meetings nationwide to present their arguement for allowing women to vote. In 1877 78 there were 1,300 meetings this represents how serious the women were. The campaigners were mainly middle class, as, upper class ladies most propably found campaigning and argueing unlady like and inappropriate. However this does not mean they they too did not want the right to vote. The WSPU began to drift away from the leaflet and tea party tactics used by the NUWSS. In November 1911 the Concillation Bill was dropped. The supporters of womens suffrage were incensed. They organised window smashing across central London, leaders were imprsioned, once an axe was thown at Prime Minister Asquith narrowly missng him. The Prime Minister was against womens suffrage, and this violence casued by the suffragettes gave him the perfect excuse not to give in argueing that if he gave in, it would encourage other groups to do the same. This in some aspects is true, in today s society if groups of people have a belief they protest! Some violently and some peacefully (such as Martin Luther Kings followers) whether or not these peopleare now inspired by the suffragettes is unknown. One of the biggest differences in methods between the Suffragists and the Suffragettes was the role of the media within their campaigns. The new WSPU protesting methods involved smashing windows, breaking street lamps and arson e.g. 2nd June 1913 post boxes in Lesham were set on fire. • 37. Gender Role In Men And Women In The 1960 s During the 1950 s 1960 s men and women followed strict gender roles that complied with society s expectation at the time. Women played domestic roles in which it was implied they were only useful in the kitchen and taking care of their husbands. Throughout this time period it was more important for women marry a man than it was to attend college and be educated. Some women had college degrees and still chose to be housewives. At the time even secondary schools prepared young girls for this type of role; lessons were given in cookery, household management, darning, sewing and even how to iron a shirt properly. Women were prepared to take on the housewife role both at school and at home; housewives did not have a career so they depended on their husband. Sexism was rampant during this era; the attitude carried over into advertising, which did little to advance gender roles and ran advertisements that implied women were idiots who cared mostly about pleasing their men. • 38. Critical Analysis Of Shrek `Shrek is the ultimate fractured fairy tale, a film that manages to simultaneously honor and lampoon the conventions of its genre without becoming smug or condescending in the process. For while it is sardonic, `Shrek is never cynical, so confident and assured are its makers in establishing and maintaining just the right tone for a revisionist exercise such as this one. The film certainly conveys a modern sensibility, yet it is a gentle sort of iconoclasm that allows us to enjoy the more conventional aspects of the story (the happily ever after ending, for example) even as we are laughing at the obvious absurdities contained within them. The revisionism begins with Shrek himself, as unromantic a figure as has ever earned the title of `hero in a fairy tale adventure. For Shrek is an ogre, plain and simple, an ugly, cranky, decidedly standoffish beast who wants nothing more than to rid his swamp of all the classic fairy tale figures (Pinocchio, the Three Little Pigs, The Three Bears, The Three Blind Mice et al), who have been consigned there by the dastardly Lord Farquaad, who is attempting to purge his land of all those bothersome folkloric personalities. To earn the deed to his land and thereby have authority to evict the squatters, Shrek agrees to go in search of the beautiful Princess Fiona, rescue her from her dragon guarded castle, and bring her back for Lord Farquaad to marry (thereby earning the latter the legitimate title of Prince of the Land). The intersection of race, gender, contradiction has been continually crucial to shape the identity of minority American. As early as the first wave of Asian immigrants, Chinese immigrants, arrived in west coast, Asian Americans was haunted by anti Asian movement and intense hostility. Foreign Miners Tax passed in 1852 was a representative of racial campaign between whites and nonwhites. The requirement of monthly three dollars tax intentionally crashed the earliest American Dream of Chinese immigrants who expected to lead a better life in the US. Such Anti Asian movement was eventually ushered into legalized level. California Supreme Court declared in People v. Hall in 1854 that Chinese migrants were not entitled to testify against the white citizens in US court based on the fact that people, other than whites, could never enjoy the same rights as white Americans. Since then, Asian immigrants were subjected to numerous social and legislative initiatives that specifically targeted them on a racial basis. In David Henry Huang s semiautobiographical play Yellow Face, he mixed his own memory and fiction to depicting an image of Asian American racial identity.
