Jeffersonian Republicanism vs. Jacksonian Democracy
Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson were two influential political figures in two very different eras,
ranging from 1800 1808 and 1808 1840 respectively, that established two very different political
philosophies. Each formed their own system that helped shape the way people think about American
government. Liberalism is a political philosophy that goes against the established status quo at the
time in order for change, where as a conservative is one which adheres to principles established by
that same status quo. The Jeffersonian Republicans image of the common man was one vested in the
educated and independent farmer, who by no stretch of the imagine had the capabilities to serve in
government. The Jacksonian Democracies image of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jackson forced thousands of Native Americans to march from Georgia to Oklahoma on the infamous
Trail of Tears with his Indian Removal Act, thus showing his hatred for the Native Americans (Brands,
H. W.). Jacksonians opposed programs such as educational reform and the establishment of public
education. They believed that schools restricted individual liberty by interfering with parental
responsibility. The importance of the Jacksonian Era was not that the gap between rich and poor had
narrowed, but that there were now few barriers that prevented people from gaining wealth and power.
Because Jackson eradicated the Indian threat (a major concern for common people), and belittled the
importance education, his party symbolized that a man could come from nothing, and become
president, which was a source of inspiration and hope for the common man. Both Jefferson and
Jackson did what they felt would economically benefit the common man however Jeffersons
maintenance of the Hamiltonian economic system, which benefited the upper class, did less for the
common man then Jackson, who advocated for the ideals of economic success for all. Jefferson
encouraged State banks and was originally opposed to the national bank, however once in office he
saw the true benefits of such a bank. Jefferson feared the

My Internship And The Washington Center Program
From the beginning of my internship to the end, my plans for the future have become even clearer as I
have completed my internship and the program. I came into this internship with a general idea of what
I wanted my future to look like, such as getting my masters, joining the military, and working for
federal law enforcement. However, now after completing my internship and The Washington Center
program I have a better idea of what I want my immediate future to look like after I graduate college. I
plan to apply to as numerous agencies as possible in the fall and if I get hired on, I will join the
reserves. If I do not get hired, I will join active duty, and as I become more experienced I will continue
to apply to agencies until I am able to get a job in a federal agency. I feel more equipped for a job in
law enforcement after I have expanded my knowledge and abilities. Throughout my internship, I was
able to expand my software knowledge in Excel, Tableau, and Visio. Tableau is a computer software
program used to support data and create visualizations based on the data, such as graphs and tables. I
used tableau as part of my brief to upper management in order to make the data I was presenting
clearer. Another type of visual aid I developed during my internship was the program Visio. I used
Visio to create several diagrams to show cost avoidance. Lastly, I was able to update my abilities on
Excel, a skill I have obtained for years, but now am able to do more advanced

Global Marketing Strategy
Product Development
Product design development is an activity where the potential to globalize needs to be examined
carefully. A globally standardized product can be made efficiently at a low cost but may end up
pleasing few customers. On the other hand, customized products targeted at different markets across
the world may be too expensive. The trick, as in the case of other value chain activities is to identify
those elements of the product which can be standardized across markets and those which need to be
customized.
Japanese companies such as Sony and Matsushita have been quite successful in marketing
standardized versions of their consumer electronics products. These companies had limited resources
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, even for these products, local customization may be required in engineering, installation,
sales, service and financing schemes. In the case of financial services, institutional products tend to be
more global than the retail ones.
Consider a product like cars. Traditionally, car manufacturers have developed hundreds of models to
meet the needs of different markets without exploring the possibilities that exist for standardization.
Proliferation of models has resulted in unused capacities and inefficiencies. In the global automobile
industry today, substantial excess capacity exists. Under these circumstances, car manufacturers are
looking for ways to cut costs. One approach has been to select common platforms and build models of
different shapes around these platforms. The idea here is that the basic functionality of a car can be
extended globally while features and shape are customized to appeal to different consumer tastes in
various parts of the world. Ford and Toyota have made a lot of progress in standardizing the platforms.
Other automobile companies are also laying a lot of emphasis in this regard.
Market Research
Now, let us move on to another important marketing activity, market research. Some elements can
probably be standardized. For example, the sample to population ratio can be controlled globally. The
information to be collected for each product category can also be

Doomed Relationships in the Bread Givers
The Bread Givers, written by Anzia Yezierska, revolves around a starving lower east side family
whose daughter rebels against her fathers strict conception of the role of a Jewish woman. The major
theme of this novel is doomed relationships. There are several of these that are thoroughly analyzed in
the novel. These include the relationship between Rabbi Smolinksy and the females in his family as
well as those in his society, between him and his son in laws, between the Smolinsky daughters and
their husbands, between the Smolinsky daughters and their heritage, between Rabbi Smolinksy and his
heritage, and lastly, between the old and the new. The following will concentrate on three of latter ...

Of the doomed relationship between the females and Rabbi Smolinksy, there is one female that stands
out. This is the rocky relationship between Rabbi Smolinsky and his youngest daughter Sara. Sara,
from a young age, was independent. This independence was illustrated at the time when her family
was destitute and starving. On her own initiative, Sara ran out into the street to sell herring in order to
bring a couple of dollars home to her family. There is a conflict in Saras independence. On one hand,
her independence is useful in that it allowed her to assist with the family finances. On the other hand,
Rabbi Smolinsky is opposed to her independence because of the fear that she will leave the house, as
well as the family values, all together. Rabbi Smolinsky needs Sara at home indefinitely, or at least to
marry into a wealthy family, who will then support him. This is not Saras ambition. Due to their clash
in values, Sara reaches her breaking point and runs off to become the independent soul she is. My will
is as strong as yours, she replies. Nobody can stop me. I m not from the old country. I m American!
Sara then rediscovers her independence through education, employment, and love. The last doomed
relationship in the novel, is the relationship between Rabbi Smolinsky s daughters and their husbands.
Relationships require a stable foundation in which to grow. If that foundation is weak at

Funeral Eulogy
As I stand here, with my hand resting on your coffin, breathing in the scent of lilies and of wood
polish, the congregation is watching and waiting. The guests file into the church with the cool,
morning, Melbourne breeze sending shivers down everyone s spines. All the other guests greeted each
other with upturned brows, watery eyes, forced smiles, and lingering embraces. The occasional person
comes up and embraces me and tells me everything is going to be okay, when they know its quite far
from it. The crowd was growing quickly as more people flowed through the front door, all of them
dressed in monotone fashions. Staring at me through the tears that fill their eyes are the people who
cared and still care about you. I m taking these few minutes to prepare myself, before I have to deliver
your eulogy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I never liked funerals, even through they are thought as a celebration of the life you have lived, they
only make me remember that you are no longer to continue celebrating that life. I place my unstable
hand on the hard, dark, wooden coffin, wearing your suit you got perfectly fitted for what was
supposed to be the best day of our entire lives . The flag draped upon your casket setting a reminder to
every one of your bravery. I allow a tear to slowly roll down my cheek as I stare blankly at my blurred
hand and say to you my heart is forever yours . I say this to you with a different meaning and emotion

a beginning and I m saying it now as an ending. This just highlights the fact that I m not ready to say

Nixon Watergate Scandal
When the Watergate Seven broke into the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the
Watergate Office Complex, none of them could have imagined the scandal which would soon erupt.
Following the initial break in on July 17, 1972, a cover up was initiated by the Nixon administration to
hide the fact that the burglary was ordered by Nixon s Committee to Re elect the President (CREEP).
After two years of investigations and trials, Nixon s cover up blew up and he was indicated for
obstruction of justice. In the end, Nixon chose to resign as president instead of facing impeachment.
Although the Nixon administration endeavored to cover up its involvement in the Watergate burglary,
political investigators were able to uncover the White House s ... Show more content on

Appointed as a special prosecutor on May 18, 1973, Cox was able to receive logs of presidential
meetings and telephone conversations with aides which proved vital in creating subpoenas for Nixon s
tape recordings. As soon as Alexander Butterfield revealed the existence of the secret tape recording
system in the Oval Office, Cox demanded that Nixon release certain tapes for evidence on July 23,
1973, (fordlibrarymuseum). After the release of the tapes was denied, Cox immediately subpoenaed
eight of the tapes and three other documents (Britannica; Washingtonpost). Once again Nixon denied
the release of the tapes making claim to his executive privilege. Nixon was finally forced to surrender
the tapes to Cox on August 29, 1973, with Judge Sirca delivering a key ruling (Britannica). Following
the court s decision and a failed appeals attempt, Nixon tried to compromise with Cox by offering
summaries of the tapes on October 19, 1979,; nonetheless, this offer was rejected by Cox. As a result
of this refusal, Cox was fired alongside the resignations of Attorney General Elliot Richardson and his

them. a few months ago my grandparents, who don t watch much tv, or movies, were over and me and
my little brother were playing a round or two of Special Ops on the game. For anyone who has played
a lot of games like that, they know that there isn t much gore in them, but my grandparents were

International Trade As A Tool For International Business
The case study in chapter fourteen asks some very important questions regarding international trade as
SME and MNE evolve globally due to technology. Therefore as international business continues to
evolve companies are find easier ways to find importers and exporters from the comfort of their
offices without the costly methods of travel and due diligences trying to find reputable companies to
handle their needs. Using a variety of sources I will analyze international trade through the use of
websites and go into detail about the secureness and effectiveness of those sites.

Therefore companies are able to benefit through e commerce by overcoming capital and infrastructure

Websites like alibaba .com such as being an improved mechanism for trade by making information
readily available and inexpensive. Therefore by creating a direct service to international traders, gives
companies the opportunities to grow in addition to an even playing field among competitors. Although
there are a good deal of benefits associated with international trade using the internet there are still
some things to watch for in which companies looking to use websites like alibaba.com for their trade
needs should look for. For example, Alibaba s reputation among US consumers has been poor,
including an F rating from the Better Business Bureau. The low rating is due to Alibaba s failure to

Anthrax in Bioterrorism
As America rises shakily to its feet after September 11th, a man from American Media Inc. breathes in
a funny powder from a letter in his office. Five days later he ís in the hospital, an apparent severe case
of the flu. Two days later, he dies. This man was Bob Stevens, the first in America to die from a
deliberate anthrax attack. Others letters such as this started popping up in major American media

Gruinard Island was a mess of death and contamination after testing it was indeed the only
uninhabited place during WWII. The island has only recently been decontaminated [and yes, they used
another hundred sheep to test the safety of the island. All these sheep survived]. The U.S. took another
approach on the homeland at Fort Detrick, Maryland, the 1950ís and ë60s. The top research facility
called themselves the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases,
affectionately known as the Institute. Even after WWII they continued their biological weapon
research for two decades. Their specialty? Anthrax. This is where anthrax was honed down and
refined to its most lethal potential. And, like every great American Research facility, the whole area
had round the clock military security, and every scientist was given a gun to keep in proximity during
all work hours. They stated that, ideally, a hundred grams of dried anthrax could destroy a whole city,
and every gallon could murder every human being on earth. Thankfully, itís not an ideal world, and
the anthrax bomb was not perfected. The Institute continued work on anthrax until 1969,

History Of The Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers are the best because they have had so many stars and hall famers that played

Lakers have made a name for themselves with the players they had and have as of right now. When
the Lakers first started out they were originally in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They were called the
Lakers in honor of the state s nickname, The Land of 10,000 Lakes. In 1960, Bob Short moved the
NBA franchise to Los Angeles. He did not change the name because there are also lakes in California.
During this time there was the best duo, Jerry West and Elgin Baylor, these two were lethal on the
court. The 1968 time was a new era for the Los Angeles Lakers because the duo now added a new
member, Wilt Chamberlain, making it a trio for the Lakers. Another reason why they are the best is
because of their 33 game winning streak which remains longest winning streak in history. ... Show

Lawlessness And Savagery In Jack And Jack s Lord Of The Flies
Lord of the Flies is about a group of boys stranded on an island that must work together to survive and
get rescued. At first, civilization still has a firm grasp on the boys, and they have rules to follow and a
plan to get rescued. However, as time goes on, lawlessness and savagery begins to set in, as they re
just a pack of boys. The death of two of the wisest boys on the island, Piggy and Simon, shows a real
turn of events and signals that the boys have finally turned savage. Evidently, no matter how polished
and civilized the boys may seem, at the end of the day when the boys are stripped to their cores, their
crueler nature shows.
Jack and Ralph work together, at least at the start, to keep everyone fed and happy. They create rules
to keep law and order, and have a conch that they blow to assemble everyone. At the very beginning,
the boys vote for a chief to lead the tribe. Seems to me we ought to have a chief to decide things...with
dreary obedience the choir raised their hands...every hand outside the choir except Piggy s was raised
(22 23). Showing how the boys want a leader who does things, they pick a leader that s rather
charismatic and represents, at least to the little uns, the government.

The Is A Cure For Deafness
Imagine a life without hearing, waking up everyday in silence. Would you embrace your deafness,
have a hearing aid, or have a cochlear implant? Surely, all of these options are personal preferences;
however, one is better than the others: the cochlear implant operation, in a way, is a cure for deafness.
Having an opportunity to fully hear in both of your ears can open many gateways into your life; the
troubles of finding a school, a job, and doing basic things such as listening to music or driving a car
would be made easier. The cochlea is the auditory portion in your inner ear, usually identified as a
spiral like a snail shell. The cochlear implant contains two parts: the inner and outer. The inner part,
also known as the receiver, is where the surgery comes into play. The receiver is placed under the skin
above your ear where the surgeon carves a little part of the skull out for the magnet to lay in. The outer
part, also known as the processor, is worn on the ear and connects to the magnet in your skull. The
processor analyzes sound, sends it to the receiver inside your skull, which sends electrodes to the
auditory nerves (Chorost). Therefore, it would be very hard to lose the cochlear implant whereas a
hearing aid is very easy to lose. The hearing aid can be uncomfortable to wear all the time, the
batteries die quickly, and you can not get it wet. The cochlear implant can have some discomfort such
as a headache, and a stiff neck that lasts for a few days after the

Lex Orandi
Continuity and Development in Roman Catholic Ecclesiology
Summary
After the Reformation, the Roman Catholic Church showed herself as a perfect society , which is
visible by the profession of faith while Protestant is not. Subsequently, retrieving the biblical and
patristic evidence, Pius XII s encyclical letter introduced the image of mystical body of Christ for the
Church. Overcoming the impersonality the image of perfect society has, this idea was still criticized
for the exclusiveness and also a lack of historical Christ. After that, the Church began to consider the
Eucharistic ecclesiology. Supported by the theology in the RCIA, which elucidates the significance
and the Baptism and the Eucharist, the ecclesiology regained its dynamism. ... Show more content on

As the proverb lex orandi, lex credendi goes, especially supporting her arguments by liturgical
resources is effective. At the expense of that, however, there are fewer arguments from biblical
resources. For example, the reader may not be able to understand where this image comes from when
she discusses the church as people of God (p.161), although this image apparently stems from the
biblical tradition. The second weakness in her argument is that she does not explain the historical
background, though she admits the fact that the mystery of the church is present and manifested in a
concrete society, (P. 168) where people were at the mercy of influential ideologies, such as
modernism, atheism and communism. Finally, explanation on infallibility, in my opinion, can be
omitted for the following three reason. Firstly, it is not convincing to the faithful other than Roman
Catholic Church because of less biblical evidence. Secondly, Vatican I was discontinued and not a few
opponents left the council before its closure in order to avoid voting. Finally, the historical constraint
should be considered. Therefore, there is no point in introducing the theological theory before the last

Legality Of The Use Of Cluster Munitions Essay
The Legality of the Use of Cluster Munitions
In order to establish the legality of the use of cluster munitions under international law, it is necessary
to look at the norms that regulate the means and methods of warfare. Article 35 (2) of the First
Additional Protocol to the Geneva Convention clearly states that: It is prohibited to employ weapons,
projectiles and material and methods of warfare of a nature to cause superfluous injury or unnecessary
suffering. Moreover, Article 48 claims that: ...the Parties to the conflict shall at all times distinguish

The most important document against these arms is the Convention on Cluster Munitions, signed by
119 countries, which is a treaty and, thus, it is only binding for the member states. Among the 78
countries that do not take part in the Convention there is the United States, China, India, Pakistan,
Israel, Russia, Iran, Libya, and Saudi Arabia, meaning the countries that actually have or use these
kind of munitions.
Moreover, there is another document, the Protocol on Explosive Remnants of War, according to which
its member states are committed to clear up the attacked territory after the end of a conflict. Many
countries that did not sign the Convention on Cluster Munitions, such as the United States, signed the
Protocol. Therefore, these countries are committed to eliminate the suffering caused by unexploded
cluster munitions in attacked territories.
In addition, it is worth mentioning that the use of other types of controversial arms is not prohibited
under international law. For example, the International Court of Justice s advisory opinion of 1996
claimed that the threat or use of nuclear weapons is not prohibited under international law, even
though it is extremely difficult to imagine a situation where the use of nuclear weapons might respect
the principles of distinction and proportionality and not inflicting superfluous injuries or unnecessary

Taking A Look At World Health Organization
World Health Organization estimates, there are 59.8 million health care worker worldwide,
representing 12% of the working population globally. About two thirds of them (39.5 million) provide

History of Jamaican Music
The history of Jamaican music is inextricably intertwined with the history of the Jamaican people.
Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean, and was initially populated by the Arawak people.
Christopher Columbus discovered the island on his second voyage to the Americas, and it was settled
first by Spanish colonists, and later by English colonists. (Megan, R.)
Jamaicans possess a musical heritage that comes from their African and European roots. Reggae music
is Jamaica s best sound. These thumping sounds are rich and infectious and encompass expression ...

form gives young people the outlet of expressing themselves creatively. (Franksterr)
This is old time story telling in song and music. It combines African and latin rhythm, with anglo

How Is Cronus Selfish
The Greek God, Cronus was a devilish one. While being one of the smartest gods, Cronus still fell for
a trick played by his sister and wife Rhea the goddess of fertility, new generation, and motherhood. In
early adulthood, he dethroned his father with a sickle given by his mother, imprisoned his brothers
after gaining authority, and later swallowed his children whole in fear of being overthrown just like he
had done to his father. This action did not work due to his hidden son, Zeus, who he was later
dethroned by. Cronus ( also spelt Kronus, Kronos, and Cronos) was the God of all time and son of
Earth (Gaia) and Sky (Uranus). He is often described as being a ...wily, crafty, devious, devising ruler.

Ways Of Seeing John Berger
Throughout the history of art, the meaning of images and the fashion in which themes are depicted
have shifted throughout the history of art. In the book Ways of Seeing, John Berger outlines the
reasons behind these changes in the consumption of art and explains why art has become what it is
today. However, within his explanation he misses one of the most important contributors to this
evolution: the cultural changes that have occurred since the creation of the painting. He does mention
these differences, but only uses the concept of changing social norms to strengthen his argument about
the mystification of art. This is an oversight. A cultural shift changes how people perceive of the
world, and thus, changes how ideas are depicted in art. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These works were the exact opposite of his earlier works, which were of a larger scale, utilized color,
and were meant for a client. Instead, The Disasters of War were prints, made for easy disbursement on
small pieces of paper (Figure 2). This sudden shift in artistic style can be attributed to several changes
in the artist s personal life and the political atmosphere surrounding him. During the time period in
which these prints were made, between the years of 1810 1812, Napoleon had invaded Spain, and
brought with him war and destruction ( Goya Prado Tour ). With the warfare came the actual practice
of Enlightenment ideals. Most of these ideas had been known in Spain prior to this point and were
supported by the middle class, but they had been under the rule of an absolute monarch ( Goya Prado
Tour ). Therefore, the appearance with these ideas alongside bloody war must have been startling and
unsettling. Goya, who was in agreement with the ideas of the French Revolution, stayed in Spain after
the expulsion of the monarchs ( Goya Prado Tour ). However, it can be seen that the blood and
violence that followed with these changes bothered him. Before the French invaded, all of the
Enlightenment ideals of the French Revolution were intangible thoughts that Spaniards had spoken of
in theory, not actually experienced. With the experience of these Enlightenment ideas came war,

The Role Of Nurturing In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein

Consumer Society and Choice
A consumer society is a post industrial term used to describe the fact that society is characterised more
by what people consume and less by the jobs they do or goods they produce (Hetherington, 2009). As
our relationship with consumerism has changed so too have the choices available of why, when, where
and how we consume. The first part of this assignment will look at the characteristics of a consumer
society, the choices available and identify the divisions created from unequal choices. The second part
will consider the role of the Big four supermarkets (TESCO, Asda, Sainsbury and Morrison s) in
providing choice to people.

Larger stores also offer people the convenience of additional services along with their shopping, for
example post office, pharmacy and opticians. By addressing consumer s expectations and using their
buyer power they can offer a choice of products to reflect consumer s diverse budgetary, dietary,
ethical and environmental requirements. Furthermore their global buyer power enables consumers to
benefit from choosing exotic produce all year round. With 30,000,000 customers (Bevan cited in
Allen, 2009) choosing to use the big four supermarkets on a weekly basis it would suggest that they
provide a format that consumers want.
Supermarkets also claim that their economic leverage enables them to benefit local communities by
building stores and providing social and economic regeneration packages. One such example is
Linwood, on the outskirts of Glasgow (Allen, 2009). The closure of a main employer left the centre of
Linwood economically scarred. A proposal to build a new Tesco supermarket in the area and attract
other special retailers to the ailing Town Centre was met with enthusiasm by local residents.
Supporters of supermarkets advocate that everyone within the supply chain (customers, communities
and suppliers) benefit from supermarkets, a concept Dennis Wrong terms the positive sum game
(Allen, 2009).
Anti supermarket campaigners have a counterclaim that the big four abuse their dominant position in
the marketplace and restrict

The Negative Impacts Of Rock NRoll
Rock N Roll made its first debut in the late 1940s, early 1950s. Creating a new genre of music based
on heavy beats and simple melodies. As the years began to evolve so did the opinion of Rock N Roll.
Rock N Roll began influencing people s everyday lives from their fashion, attitudes, and even
language. The most influential genre found in Rock N Roll was heavy metal, due to its strong beats
and violent or fantastic imagery. Motley Crue was neither the first nor the last heavy metal band in
Rock N Roll. They were, however, the band social critics loved to hate. By placing Motley Crue
within the development of heavy metal, one can discover how Rock N Roll, even in the 1980s,
continued to divide American society. Motley Crue was founded in the early 1980s with numerous
other astonishing heavy metal bands such as Iron Maiden, Scorpion, Def Leppard, and Metallic. These
bands choose to be associated with the genre heavy metal, because they knew the impact it would
leave on their fan base. Yet many people had their doubts about this new style of music due to its
negative outlooks. Heavy metal was believed to split our society by encouraging rebellious tendencies
against authority figures such as parents, adults, schools, and the work force. Even after all these
negative impact heavy metal recieved, it did not stop Motley Crue from continuing to produce the
music they believed to explain their feelings at the time. This also showed others that their style of

Walden Location Essay
In Thoreau s novel, Walden, the reader is introduced to Thoreau s world and how it is greatly impacted
by location. Thoreau begins his project by moving away from civilization and searching for a place to
live. He finds his temporary home at Walden Pond, where he starts with few resources and little
outside inputs. Thoreau even has to borrow the axe that he uses to cut down trees to make his home
for the next two years. Thoreau asserts that his experiment, moving to Walden Pond, is not permanent.
Walden Pond is, however, the foundation precept of how location impacts one s way of life. The place
one live shapes the way one live and how one interact with the world around oneself.
Before Thoreau makes the bold decision of living in seclusion, he lives in a community. Thoreau

trades his beans with others for food, and makes a profit off of the land on which he lives. The place
that he inhabits becomes his main concern and priority. This helps readers to understand why the place

Asian Stereotypes In America
Beginning with the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, the first law to ever restrict immigration,
discrimination against Asian Americans has been prevalent in the United States. Although the issue
has existed for more than a century, modern Americans have expressed their hostility to the diverse
group due to the bitterness caused by the minority s wild economic successes in the 19th century and
in the 21st century. However, as society has labeled them as a group of hard working, intuitive
individuals, Asians have since surfaced as the model minority of America. By definition, the model
minority stereotype is a cultural standard with expectations that Asian American individuals will be

The typical stereotyping of Asians as exemplar intellectuals with natural skills in the fields of math,
technology, and science are many times, true, as the masses have portrayed themselves as achievers of
the American Dream ( Model Minority Stereotype ). Asians, on average, are more educated and
intellectual than any other racial group (Wingfield). As they are more likely to have white collar jobs
and even considered overrepresented in professional workplaces in the United States, it is not
surprising that Asians earn higher incomes than the average white individual (Wingfield). Thus, it is
feasible that Asians serve as a model minority for other minorities and maybe even the majority, as
many strive to have the same opportunities as them. Moreover, in the film Get Out, African Americans
are portrayed as the main minority; the protagonist, Chris, is the only black person in a white suburban
town (Truffaut Wong). However, in two scenes, an Asian man named Hiroki Tanaka participates in the
modern slave auction and ultimately accomplishes his role as the model minority (Truffaut Wong).
The man blends in with the white crowd and enforces the concept of the model minority, as he is seen
to be on the ranks of white people. Furthermore, by definition, the model minority is not offensive as
its denotation is meant to praise the group. Asians are seen to thrive economically and their
responsibility, motivation, and the success as a result are proof that American meritocracy is effective
(Wingfield). Fundamentally, Americans recognize the dedication and diligence Asians have and thus
acclaim Asians to be models for the rest of the population. Overall, the stereotyping of Asians as a

Bowling For Columbine The Cove Analysis
The purpose of a documentary is to promote one s views or beliefs, in order to provoke change in
society. This is evident in Michael Moore s documentary Bowling for Columbine and Louie Psihoyos,
The Cove. Both documentaries manipulate the audience into taking the composers side of the
argument. Bowling for Columbine uses satirical humour and interviewing techniques to make an
extremely persuasive argument highlighting issues such as gun violence levels in America and the
Columbine High School massacre itself. Louie Psihoyos The Cove uses statistics and archival footage
to persuade the audience that dolphins are beginning unnecessarily slaughtered, and there is something

Michael Moore s, Bowling for Columbine manipulates the viewer to believe that gun violence in

Assumption.1 According to the authors of the article they have quoted an assumption that for a new
entrant it is important to have a pre entry experience to determine its performance.
Evidence by the author
To back up the assumption made by the authors, they have provided with evidence which states that
according to M. Ganco in 2009 it is important to have a pre industry experience before entering a new
industry and also according to Dimov and Martin in 2004 and 2010 both breadth and depth of
experience contributed to the likelihood that firms made first round entries.
Challenging the assumption
The authors have made a significantly true assumption above to what I completely agree with.
Importance of pre industry experience was first analyzed in 1982 by Gort and Klepper who also says
that a new entrant who has prior experience of the industry will be able to survive the challenges of
the new industry and also the heterogeneity of the previous and new firm is equally important. By
stating the above evidence I completely stand with the assumption made by the authors.

Technology And The Internet And Personal Smartphone Devices
With the ever increasing use of technological advancements such as the internet and personal
smartphone devices, many people simply take their security for granted. However, the act of simply
connecting to a web page like the Google search engine requires interacting with thousands of security
checkpoints and distinct networks just to display their distinctive logo. Every modern organization
must consider the risk of the internet, including but not limited to: banks, organizations, universities,
militaries, big business, local shops, and even governments. Astonishingly, this is a risk that
essentially did not exist merely 20 years ago. Nowadays there are many ways to add security to a
system or network. Some will find that simply placing a password on their site works and others may
find encrypting their data is the best way to keep private information safe. Nevertheless, the loss of
personal information to things like identity theft is at an all time high. This lack of cyber security
means that there is an increasing number of ways to get personal information with the ever expanding
use of technology and thusly a more dire need for awareness of the risks taken.
Need for Cyber Security To directly address the sheer magnitude of the issue at hand, users must

AL Starting Pitchers Is Lacking Strength
Pitching may cause a few problems at this year s All Star game. Kansas City Royals manager and this
year s American League coach, Ned Yost has a tough road ahead of him. There are few starting
pitchers on the American League side that stand out enough to warrant a few innings on July 12. The
Red Sox Steven Wright, Danny Salazar, and the White Sox Jose Quintana top the list with the lowest
ERA in the American League. Trouble is numbers do not tell their whole story making them
questionable candidates. Wright is a terrific knuckleballer, and Quintana has lost 5 of his last 6 starts, a
streak that ended against my beloved Red Sox. Both may get pretty beat up. Salazar is hanging in

chose different attitudes. Some remained descent, while others chose to become sadistic. He explains
that it is the condition or the atmosphere that forces man to make this decision but that the condition or
atmosphere does not make the decision. Each person has to decide what attitude to adopt. As Frankl
further explains there is also purpose in life which is almost barren of both creation and enjoyment and
which admits of but one possibility of high moral behavior: namely, in man s attitude to his existence
restricted by external forces.
Dr. Frankl also explains his theory on neurosis and how it is tied to the meaning of life. Frankl differs

believes that the basis for neurosis is man s search for his own meaning. Furthermore he explains that
ones own meaning is constantly changing; therefor, the means for our suffering is constantly

Kano Model And Quality Deployment Essay
Kano Model and Quality Function Deployment (QFD)
Introduction
It is a fact that the main target of any company is to meet the needs of customers. Customers are the
main goal as they are the main asset which brings in the profits to companies. As companies do their
best to attract as more as possible, and as there is a severe competition among companies to attract
customers, researchers also do their best to provide with means to analyze customer needs to help
companies meet these needs. One of these models used to identify the needs of customers is the Kano
Model. This model helps determine the main needs and the delights customers which the customers
expect to find in a product or a service. Therefore, Professor Noriaki Kano could give us a powerful
technique to address the issue of needs of customers. According to theory of Kano, the customer
satisfaction is not the same as this is proportional to the degree to which the product or service is
completely functional. So, the Kano Model and Quality Function Deployment (QFD) helps identify
the needs of customer in any of the products or services to determine how to meet such functional
requirements. Through this report, I am going to tackle the following tasks.

Although it seems that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the ridiculous standards and pressures of

Our minds can be molded by others in multiple different ways, such as through conformity, when
people alter their thoughts or behaviors to match another group or what is normal , or persuasion,

techniques, we can be easily influenced, and the media uses them every day to shape our views of the
world. From ancient times to present day, the concept of beauty has changed tremendously. Back in
the 17th and 18th centuries, society embraced models such as Lillian Russell, a more heavyset woman
that would most likely be shunned in the current modeling industry (Bushak). Even in the mid 1900s,
one of the most iconic women of the century, Marilyn Monroe, was quite curvy herself (Bushak).
Then, in the 1990s, skinny was in; models were progressively becoming thinner and thinner to the
point we are at now, influencing the major eating disorder epidemic and body insecurities in
adolescents we see today. Even I have noticed this change in Disney Channel; over the years, the

Summary Of A Wall Of Fire Rising
Life can be a beautiful thing, or in this case of the short story A Wall of Fire Rising, by Edwidge
Danticat, life is an unpleasant thing. One of the main characters, Guy, is struggling to enjoy his life
due to living as a low economy family in the post colonial Haitian era. Such a life can cause one to
become crazy when seeing an opportunity to escape, but continuously being unable to reach it. Being
out of reach of his escape plan and left with no other option, Guy, places little value in life and
continuously thinks about hope for a better life. His aggressive characteristic traits are not an
expression of a strange personality, but rather a reaction to feeling broken. Trapped by his economic
status, Guy is out of reach of any opportunities to better his family s life. Because of this, he learned to
accept that being a permanent worker at the sugar mill would never happen. Growing older, he knows
he wants better for his son s life, but must keep up with the normal life his family belongs to. Many
years ago, it was determined that the men of a specific decent were the only ones allowed to work at
the mill. The Haitians of Lebanese, the sugar mill owners, were the workers because they had been in
the country for generations. As the narrator explains, The jobs at the sugar mill were few and far
between. The people who had them never left, or when they did they would pass the job on to another
family member who was already waiting on line (Danticat 97 99). Since Guy was viewed as a lower
class to the community, he worried about his son s future, but his wife tried to overlook the thought of
her son living like Guy. Multiple times, Guy tried to tell his wife about his escape plan to a better life,
but she blew it off each and every time. Due to the setting being post colonial, Guy never experienced
a great life. After his multiple walks to watch the state sponsored news with his wife and son, he

Comparing The Afterlife In Greek Mythology And Christianity
Introduction to the Greek mythology in the 21st century, not many religions believe in the afterlife.
The religions that believed in the existence of the afterlife were Christians, Islamic, and a few pagan
systems. Greek mythology and Christianity both believe in the same afterlife but have different names
for it. This Greek mythology parallels the afterlife of Christianity because they believe in God and
believe that when they die they will go to heaven or hell.
The certainty that an indispensable part of one s self endures after the decease of the physical body is
called the afterlife. The belief in extinction after death is in contrast with the conviction in the afterlife,
which many perceive as supernatural. In Christian religion they believe that human can be reborn into
the same world with different identify they will begin an new cycle all over again for them (Gray 14).
They believe that this rebirth and death continues until the individual gains access to the spiritual
dominion. According to the biblical aspect of life after death, the demise of an individual ... Show

According to Christians believe in the afterlife, they understand that one might die and get reborn to
the land of the living again and again as another human and begin the life cycle over again until they
move on to the afterlife. Therefore, according to the Underworld mythology of the Greek and the
afterlife biblical explanation of Christianity, there is a similarity wherein both religions there is an
afterlife of rewards and punishment. In Greek mythology, if a person died they were taken by boat
across the river Styx and Acheron by Charon the gatekeeper and they will never rest in peace, while
Christians believe that punishment in hell would be where people burn for all

The Tudor Family Research Paper
The Tudor Family is a line of Kings and powerful Queens . The Tudor Dynasty starts with Henry VII .
Henry VIII created the Protestant Church of England so he could divorce his first wife Catherine of
Aragon , who was Catholic . He created his own church because the Pope refused to annul the
marriage . Henry had Parliament pass laws ending the power of the Pope in England. In 1534 the Act
of Supremacy names the King Henry as the head of the Church of England . After Henry s death and
his son Edward s short reign , his daughter Mary I became Queen. Mary made England Catholic again
. When Mary died, Elizabeth was crowned queen and returned England to Protestant. Queen
Elizabeth, like her father Henry had a good relationship with Parliament. Elizabeth I died in 1603 and
a relative of the Tudors from Scotland became King . James I was the first member of the Stuart
dynasty to rule England . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
James had a hard time getting along with Parliament . James spent his money toward the military and
started to run low on money. James would ask Parliament for money but they would never grant his
request. During that time a group called the Puritans formed. The Puritans are a group of strict
Calvinists that demanded that the Church of England be reformed. The Puritans goal was to take
power away from the church officials. James saw this as a threat to his power since the church
supported him and refused to pass the Puritans request for reform. King James faced many problems
during his reign with Parliament unlike the Tudor Family who made sure they had a good relationship
with Parliament . When James died his younger son Charles I was crowned king , whose conflict with
Parliament would led to the english civil war and his own

Literacy From The Army Of Me
Literacy from the army to me
.
The military has always been a part of my family s life. My grandfather was in the army along with
his son and my grandmothers other son s. I also have many cousins who are still in and one who
worked at the Pentagon. My uncles use to always tell us stories about their military service and how
much they learned. Most of my cousins that joined only joined because of these stories and the lavish
lifestyles they have seen my uncles live. Unlike them, I wasn t drawn in by the stories my uncles told
me, or the war letters from my deceased grandfather. For some reason it was my mothers dream for
me; probably because its always something she wanted to do but was afraid, a fantasy I wasn t quite
ready to live in for her or them. I remember high school. Everyone I was close to was in JROTC. I
would watch them in laughter every Monday morning when they walked around in their tight fitted
uniforms. To me it was all a big joke; quite funny to say the least. I mean, really, how many took this
seriously? It wasn t like it was really being in the army. It was just for show. Either way I know for
sure that I didn t. I was always asked to join for the next year and told how it could benefit me, but
somehow I always found myself politely declining. I would begin to walk as fast as I could feel giddy
inside. I was still immature and had the mindset that being all you could be didn t look like that at all.
I pictured strong and arrogant

Safety And Health Directives
This paper examines the implication to establish measures that provide safety and health directives
concerning areas involving painting operations, gas and electric welding, cutting, brazing, or
equivalent conflagration or spark generating operations towards safeguarding personnel and property
in contrast to heat, developed gases and fumes, electrical shock, and radiation meant for all personnel
responsible for ground work, managing, and accompanying painting, welding and cutting operations
(Mroszczyk, 2012). Personnel is mandated to use sanctioned painting, welding, and cutting equipment
and follow the manufacturer s instructions. Equipment will maintain a continuous operational status
and a safe working order at all times. Personnel will report any equipment deficiency or safety hazard
to a proprietor, and the use of such equipment must be unobtainable until it is repaired by qualified
personnel. Mroszczyk (2012) writes that painting, cutting or welding operations must be performed in
areas with adequate ventilation to keep fumes and gases within safe limits. Local exhaust ventilation

The Effects Of Drought And Its Effects On The Environment
Since we moved into the 21st century, the condition of global environment is one of the most popular
topics, and it created many controversies. Those topics are wide ranged, from the natural disasters like
earthquake, tornado or volcano eruption; to the man made disasters like nuclear war or air / water /
sound pollutions. As a student, I too am interested and have some concerns for the planet that we are
living in. Among the disasters, drought is the one that I want to learn more about it. So what is
drought? Drought is described as a period of time when the water supply is decreasing, and the length
of the drought might occur in months or even years (basicplant). It occurs in virtually all climatic
zones and its characteristics may be different in certain regions. According to The Ojos Negros
Research Group, the characteristics of the drought are scarcity of water, low precipitation, and mostly
occurred in dry season . Other climatic factors like high wind/temperature and low relative humidity
(The Ojos Negros Research Group) are usually related with the drought. Drought can be put into four
categories based on the regions, needs, and disciplinary approaches. The first type of drought is called
Meteorological drought; it is defined on the basis degree of dryness [compare to a normal/average
amount], and the duration of the dry period (National Drought Mitigation Center). Agricultural
drought is the second type and it is similar to the Meteorological drought, but

Interaction With Nurses
Interaction with and teaching of patients is a core duty of nurses (Whitman, 2015). During their initial
training, nursing students must be taught how to communicate with and teach patients; however, most
nursing curriculums do not explicitly instruct nursing students in andragogy theories and teaching
techniques. Instead, many nursing curriculums rely on the model of the nursing instructor and clinical
experiences to teach these elements, such as nursing professionalism and patient education (Azadi et
al., 2017). To complicate matters, once they achieve their nursing license, nurses are expected to
competently interact with and care for patients from a variety of backgrounds including those who
have special needs or come from vulnerable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nurses are expected to provide advocacy for populations by embracing diversity (Koch et al., 2014).
One population which nurses will encounter is the mental health community; however, many nurses
may hold fear or negative attitudes toward this community due to personal experiences or a lack of
instruction on how to interact with this population (Clement et al., 2015). Many nurses, nursing
faculty, and nursing students may hold fear, negative attitudes, or aversion toward mental illness
which frames their experiences; thus, perpetuating the fear of mental illness and negatively impacting
the mental health nursing experience (Kashihara, 2015). Because nurses must be an advocate for their
patients, regardless of mental health status, it is vitally important that nursing students are taught
explicitly how to interact with and teach patients from the mental health community. The proposed
research topic is to explore how explicit and focused education of student nurses on how to interact
with and teach vulnerable populations, such as the mental health community, will affect their patient
education competency and their attitudes toward these

Essay about The Media’s Effect on Adolescent Bodies
The Media s Effect on Adolescent Bodies
The stringent standard Barbie doll proportions of body image and what is considered beautiful in
today s media has resulted in devastating effects on adolescent women. The images displayed of
women who have long beautiful legs, thin waist lines and smooth flawless skin are very hard to
ignore. Throughout history the female body has been on display as a selling tool to coerce people into
buying that new fancy car or the latest new appliance that can make their everyday lives easier.
Commercials of the extremely thin Kelly Ripa can act as a mantra of what a modern day picture
perfect house wife should look like standing beside her magical ovens and washing machines. There
are also constant ads on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In her book The Beauty Myth, Naomi Wolf criticizes the media and its negative effects on women by
stating that every woman should be allowed the choice to do whatever we want with our faces and
bodies without being punished by an ideology that is using attitudes, economic pressure, and even
legal judgments regarding women s appearance to undermine us psychologically and politically (10).
Some of the most common negative effects that young girls are experiencing are physical, emotional,
and social.
The physical effect s that the media has on a young girl s overall beauty and body image are
staggering. Many young girls put their bodies through painful physical transformations. They want to
look just like their favorite celebrities or to fit into the latest fashion trends and appeal to the media s
idea of what the opposite sex wants them to look like. Willis s The Culture of Beauty, argues this point
by saying The Media distract women from focusing on what bodies do... dressing up, dressing down
or sculpting our bodies in pursuit of a profile the we d be happy to avoid dressing altogether. They
print lessons available to male readers regarding what s desirable and ideal when it comes to the sizes
and shapes of women s body parts (106 107). What s even more disturbing is the physical appearance
of girls who starve themselves to reach the

Integrity In The Medical Field
Integrity is a code of values which individuals follow. It means to follow moral and ethical convictions
such as being honest or doing the right thing. Integrity can be applied to many scenarios including the
workplace, the university or our home. For students such as myself, which are perusing a career in the
medical field, integrity has to be a core value for delivering decent healthcare. In the medical field
patients, every day entirely rely on the integrity of their doctors. By trusting the doctor or any other
medical professional they encounter, they expect their medical records and secrets to be treated with
the highest discretion. As a dear friend who practiced medicine for more than 30 years once told me

The mining industry in developing nations often lacks the enforcement of ethical principles, laws and
regulations. I therefore believe developing nations are better off without large mining companies
operating within them. Mining majors can use force to get there way and this often includes political
involvement and corruption. Mining companies often overlook the artisanal miners, that use the mine
as their lone source of income, and move them out from the mines. The impact on locals is not usually
not taken into account when a new mine is set up. Mining companies often disregard the citizenship,
fairness and dignity principles of the Global Business Standards Codex to improve profits. Mining
majors will go to great lengths to make profit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As corruption is seen as a cheaper alternative to fixing the problem. I believe that developing nations
are better off without mining majors in operation within them because of the possibility for
government corruption. Developing nations are better off without mining majors because the country
is seen as a target for large revenue gains, the Global Business Standards Codex and fair treatment of
local people can often be disregarded at the expense of profits. Artisanal miners live in or around
mines and generally do all of their work by hand, including the extraction of ore, to make a living. As
these people live on the mine, if a company wants to buy the mine then they have to move the whole
town elsewhere. In accordance with the fairness principle, which has always been involved with
ethical thought (Paine et al. 2005), the mining company should provide housing for the artisanal
miners. However, by doing this, the company is taking the miners away from their source of money
and livelihood, which creates an imbalance. An example of this is the Canadian mining company in
Essakane, Burkina Faso (Siegel 2013). As global mining companies seek new avenues of revenue they
are increasingly turning to the developing world. In developing countries mining is used by locals as a
source of income when farms fail, which is becoming increasingly common with global warming. The
increasing number of artisanal miners causes

Relationship Between Marcus Aurelius And Fronto
Juan Avila
Professor Anne Haeckl
Seminar 203
11 January 2017
Structured Reflection on Marcus Aurelius life Although Marcus Aurelius had many Second Sophistic
teachers during his youth, it can be noted that his relationship with Marcus Fronto was unique. From
an examination of the epistolary Marcus Aurelius in Love, the expression of appreciation, longing, and
concern between the erastes and the eromenos is evident and of great interest. In comparing the letters
exchanged between Marcus Aurelius and Fronto with Chapter One of Meditations, there is an
observable change in the manner that Marcus Aurelius articulates his thoughts and feelings for Fronto,
showing that his sentiments for his mentor have changed from great admiration to remorse. ... Show

He says, I am thankful...that I have preserved the flower of my youth, and that I did not make proof of
my virility before the proper season, but even deferred the time. The peculiarity of this line lies in the
fact that there was no proper season for having sexual intercourse in ancient Rome. Even so, Marcus
Aurelius shows that he was able to prevent himself from rushing into having intercourse with his wife.
Thus, in refraining from having a sexual relationship with his slaves and delaying his proof of virility,
Marcus Aurelius makes an indirect statement to Fronto that, unlike him, he is able to control himself

Jeffersonian Republicanism vs. Jacksonian Democracy Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson were two influential political figures in two very different eras, ranging from 1800 1808 and 1808 1840 respectively, that established two very different political philosophies. Each formed their own system that helped shape the way people think about American government. Liberalism is a political philosophy that goes against the established status quo at the time in order for change, where as a conservative is one which adheres to principles established by that same status quo. Jackson forced thousands of Native Americans to march from Georgia to Oklahoma on the infamous Trail of Tears with his Indian Removal Act, thus showing his hatred for the Native Americans (Brands, H. They believed that schools restricted individual liberty by interfering with parental responsibility. The importance of the Jacksonian Era was not that the gap between rich and poor had narrowed, but that there were now few barriers that prevented people from gaining wealth and power. Because Jackson eradicated the Indian threat (a major concern for common people), and belittled the importance education, his party symbolized that a man could come from nothing, and become president, which was a source of inspiration and hope for the common man. Both Jefferson and Jackson did what they felt would economically benefit the common man however Jeffersons maintenance of the Hamiltonian economic system, which benefited the upper class, did less for the common man then Jackson, who advocated for the ideals of economic success for all. I came into this internship with a general idea of what I wanted my future to look like, such as getting my masters, joining the military, and working for federal law enforcement. However, now after completing my internship and The Washington Center program I have a better idea of what I want my immediate future to look like after I graduate college. I plan to apply to as numerous agencies as possible in the fall and if I get hired on, I will join the reserves. If I do not get hired, I will join active duty, and as I become more experienced I will continue to apply to agencies until I am able to get a job in a federal agency. I feel more equipped for a job in law enforcement after I have expanded my knowledge and abilities. Throughout my internship, I was able to expand my software knowledge in Excel, Tableau, and Visio. Tableau is a computer software program used to support data and create visualizations based on the data, such as graphs and tables. I used tableau as part of my brief to upper management in order to make the data I was presenting clearer. Another type of visual aid I developed during my internship was the program Visio. • 4. Global Marketing Strategy Product Development Product design development is an activity where the potential to globalize needs to be examined carefully. A globally standardized product can be made efficiently at a low cost but may end up pleasing few customers. On the other hand, customized products targeted at different markets across the world may be too expensive. The trick, as in the case of other value chain activities is to identify those elements of the product which can be standardized across markets and those which need to be customized. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, even for these products, local customization may be required in engineering, installation, sales, service and financing schemes. In the case of financial services, institutional products tend to be more global than the retail ones. Consider a product like cars. Traditionally, car manufacturers have developed hundreds of models to meet the needs of different markets without exploring the possibilities that exist for standardization. Proliferation of models has resulted in unused capacities and inefficiencies. In the global automobile industry today, substantial excess capacity exists. Under these circumstances, car manufacturers are looking for ways to cut costs. One approach has been to select common platforms and build models of different shapes around these platforms. The idea here is that the basic functionality of a car can be extended globally while features and shape are customized to appeal to different consumer tastes in various parts of the world. Ford and Toyota have made a lot of progress in standardizing the platforms. Other automobile companies are also laying a lot of emphasis in this regard. Market Research Now, let us move on to another important marketing activity, market research. Some elements can probably be standardized. This is the rocky relationship between Rabbi Smolinsky and his youngest daughter Sara. Sara, from a young age, was independent. This independence was illustrated at the time when her family was destitute and starving. On her own initiative, Sara ran out into the street to sell herring in order to bring a couple of dollars home to her family. There is a conflict in Saras independence. On one hand, her independence is useful in that it allowed her to assist with the family finances. On the other hand, Rabbi Smolinsky is opposed to her independence because of the fear that she will leave the house, as well as the family values, all together. Rabbi Smolinsky needs Sara at home indefinitely, or at least to marry into a wealthy family, who will then support him. This is not Saras ambition. Due to their clash in values, Sara reaches her breaking point and runs off to become the independent soul she is. My will is as strong as yours, she replies. Nobody can stop me. I m not from the old country. I m American! Sara then rediscovers her independence through education, employment, and love. • 17. The Is A Cure For Deafness Imagine a life without hearing, waking up everyday in silence. Would you embrace your deafness, have a hearing aid, or have a cochlear implant? Surely, all of these options are personal preferences; however, one is better than the others: the cochlear implant operation, in a way, is a cure for deafness. Having an opportunity to fully hear in both of your ears can open many gateways into your life; the troubles of finding a school, a job, and doing basic things such as listening to music or driving a car would be made easier. The cochlea is the auditory portion in your inner ear, usually identified as a spiral like a snail shell. The cochlear implant contains two parts: the inner and outer. The inner part, also known as the receiver, is where the surgery comes into play. The receiver is placed under the skin above your ear where the surgeon carves a little part of the skull out for the magnet to lay in. The outer part, also known as the processor, is worn on the ear and connects to the magnet in your skull. The processor analyzes sound, sends it to the receiver inside your skull, which sends electrodes to the auditory nerves (Chorost). Therefore, it would be very hard to lose the cochlear implant whereas a hearing aid is very easy to lose. Subsequently, retrieving the biblical and patristic evidence, Pius XII s encyclical letter introduced the image of mystical body of Christ for the Church. Overcoming the impersonality the image of perfect society has, this idea was still criticized for the exclusiveness and also a lack of historical Christ. As the proverb lex orandi, lex credendi goes, especially supporting her arguments by liturgical resources is effective. At the expense of that, however, there are fewer arguments from biblical resources. For example, the reader may not be able to understand where this image comes from when she discusses the church as people of God (p.161), although this image apparently stems from the biblical tradition. The second weakness in her argument is that she does not explain the historical background, though she admits the fact that the mystery of the church is present and manifested in a concrete society, (P. 168) where people were at the mercy of influential ideologies, such as modernism, atheism and communism. Finally, explanation on infallibility, in my opinion, can be omitted for the following three reason. Firstly, it is not convincing to the faithful other than Roman Catholic Church because of less biblical evidence. While being one of the smartest gods, Cronus still fell for a trick played by his sister and wife Rhea the goddess of fertility, new generation, and motherhood. In the book Ways of Seeing, John Berger outlines the reasons behind these changes in the consumption of art and explains why art has become what it is today. However, within his explanation he misses one of the most important contributors to this evolution: the cultural changes that have occurred since the creation of the painting. He does mention these differences, but only uses the concept of changing social norms to strengthen his argument about the mystification of art. This is an oversight. These works were the exact opposite of his earlier works, which were of a larger scale, utilized color, and were meant for a client. Instead, The Disasters of War were prints, made for easy disbursement on small pieces of paper (Figure 2). This sudden shift in artistic style can be attributed to several changes in the artist s personal life and the political atmosphere surrounding him. During the time period in which these prints were made, between the years of 1810 1812, Napoleon had invaded Spain, and brought with him war and destruction ( Goya Prado Tour ). With the warfare came the actual practice of Enlightenment ideals. Most of these ideas had been known in Spain prior to this point and were supported by the middle class, but they had been under the rule of an absolute monarch ( Goya Prado Tour ). Therefore, the appearance with these ideas alongside bloody war must have been startling and unsettling. Goya, who was in agreement with the ideas of the French Revolution, stayed in Spain after the expulsion of the monarchs ( Goya Prado Tour ). However, it can be seen that the blood and violence that followed with these changes bothered him. Consumer Society and Choice A consumer society is a post industrial term used to describe the fact that society is characterised more by what people consume and less by the jobs they do or goods they produce (Hetherington, 2009). As they are more likely to have white collar jobs and even considered overrepresented in professional workplaces in the United States, it is not surprising that Asians earn higher incomes than the average white individual (Wingfield). Thus, it is feasible that Asians serve as a model minority for other minorities and maybe even the majority, as many strive to have the same opportunities as them. Moreover, in the film Get Out, African Americans are portrayed as the main minority; the protagonist, Chris, is the only black person in a white suburban town (Truffaut Wong). James would ask Parliament for money but they would never grant his request. During that time a group called the Puritans formed. The Puritans are a group of strict Calvinists that demanded that the Church of England be reformed. The Puritans goal was to take power away from the church officials. James saw this as a threat to his power since the church supported him and refused to pass the Puritans request for reform. • 43. Literacy From The Army Of Me Literacy from the army to me . The military has always been a part of my family s life. My grandfather was in the army along with his son and my grandmothers other son s. I also have many cousins who are still in and one who worked at the Pentagon. My uncles use to always tell us stories about their military service and how much they learned. Most of my cousins that joined only joined because of these stories and the lavish lifestyles they have seen my uncles live. Unlike them, I wasn t drawn in by the stories my uncles told me, or the war letters from my deceased grandfather. For some reason it was my mothers dream for me; probably because its always something she wanted to do but was afraid, a fantasy I wasn t quite ready to live in for her or them. I remember high school. Everyone I was close to was in JROTC. I would watch them in laughter every Monday morning when they walked around in their tight fitted uniforms. To me it was all a big joke; quite funny to say the least. I mean, really, how many took this seriously? It wasn t like it was really being in the army. It was just for show. Either way I know for sure that I didn t. I was always asked to join for the next year and told how it could benefit me, but somehow I always found myself politely declining. I would begin to walk as fast as I could feel giddy inside. I was still immature and had the mindset that being all you could be didn t look like that at all. I pictured strong and arrogant ... Safety And Health Directives This paper examines the implication to establish measures that provide safety and health directives concerning areas involving painting operations, gas and electric welding, cutting, brazing, or equivalent conflagration or spark generating operations towards safeguarding personnel and property in contrast to heat, developed gases and fumes, electrical shock, and radiation meant for all personnel responsible for ground work, managing, and accompanying painting, welding and cutting operations (Mroszczyk, 2012). Personnel is mandated to use sanctioned painting, welding, and cutting equipment and follow the manufacturer s instructions. Equipment will maintain a continuous operational status and a safe working order at all times. Personnel will report any equipment deficiency or safety hazard to a proprietor, and the use of such equipment must be unobtainable until it is repaired by qualified personnel. • 45. The Effects Of Drought And Its Effects On The Environment Since we moved into the 21st century, the condition of global environment is one of the most popular topics, and it created many controversies. Those topics are wide ranged, from the natural disasters like earthquake, tornado or volcano eruption; to the man made disasters like nuclear war or air / water / sound pollutions. As a student, I too am interested and have some concerns for the planet that we are living in. Among the disasters, drought is the one that I want to learn more about it. So what is drought? Drought is described as a period of time when the water supply is decreasing, and the length of the drought might occur in months or even years (basicplant). It occurs in virtually all climatic zones and its characteristics may be different in certain regions. According to The Ojos Negros Research Group, the characteristics of the drought are scarcity of water, low precipitation, and mostly occurred in dry season . Other climatic factors like high wind/temperature and low relative humidity (The Ojos Negros Research Group) are usually related with the drought. Drought can be put into four categories based on the regions, needs, and disciplinary approaches. The first type of drought is called Meteorological drought; it is defined on the basis degree of dryness [compare to a normal/average amount], and the duration of the dry period (National Drought Mitigation Center). Agricultural drought is the second type and it is similar to the Meteorological drought, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Interaction With Nurses Interaction with and teaching of patients is a core duty of nurses (Whitman, 2015). During their initial training, nursing students must be taught how to communicate with and teach patients; however, most nursing curriculums do not explicitly instruct nursing students in andragogy theories and teaching techniques. Instead, many nursing curriculums rely on the model of the nursing instructor and clinical experiences to teach these elements, such as nursing professionalism and patient education (Azadi et al., 2017). To complicate matters, once they achieve their nursing license, nurses are expected to competently interact with and care for patients from a variety of backgrounds including those who have special needs or come from vulnerable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nurses are expected to provide advocacy for populations by embracing diversity (Koch et al., 2014). One population which nurses will encounter is the mental health community; however, many nurses may hold fear or negative attitudes toward this community due to personal experiences or a lack of instruction on how to interact with this population (Clement et al., 2015). Many nurses, nursing faculty, and nursing students may hold fear, negative attitudes, or aversion toward mental illness which frames their experiences; thus, perpetuating the fear of mental illness and negatively impacting the mental health nursing experience (Kashihara, 2015). Because nurses must be an advocate for their patients, regardless of mental health status, it is vitally important that nursing students are taught explicitly how to interact with and teach patients from the mental health community. The proposed research topic is to explore how explicit and focused education of student nurses on how to interact with and teach vulnerable populations, such as the mental health community, will affect their patient education competency and their attitudes toward these ... Essay about The Media’s Effect on Adolescent Bodies The Media s Effect on Adolescent Bodies The stringent standard Barbie doll proportions of body image and what is considered beautiful in today s media has resulted in devastating effects on adolescent women. The images displayed of women who have long beautiful legs, thin waist lines and smooth flawless skin are very hard to ignore. Throughout history the female body has been on display as a selling tool to coerce people into buying that new fancy car or the latest new appliance that can make their everyday lives easier. Commercials of the extremely thin Kelly Ripa can act as a mantra of what a modern day picture perfect house wife should look like standing beside her magical ovens and washing machines. In her book The Beauty Myth, Naomi Wolf criticizes the media and its negative effects on women by stating that every woman should be allowed the choice to do whatever we want with our faces and bodies without being punished by an ideology that is using attitudes, economic pressure, and even legal judgments regarding women s appearance to undermine us psychologically and politically (10). Some of the most common negative effects that young girls are experiencing are physical, emotional, and social. The physical effect s that the media has on a young girl s overall beauty and body image are staggering. Many young girls put their bodies through painful physical transformations. They want to look just like their favorite celebrities or to fit into the latest fashion trends and appeal to the media s idea of what the opposite sex wants them to look like. Willis s The Culture of Beauty, argues this point by saying The Media distract women from focusing on what bodies do... dressing up, dressing down or sculpting our bodies in pursuit of a profile the we d be happy to avoid dressing altogether. I therefore believe developing nations are better off without large mining companies operating within them. Mining majors can use force to get there way and this often includes political involvement and corruption. Mining companies often overlook the artisanal miners, that use the mine as their lone source of income, and move them out from the mines. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As corruption is seen as a cheaper alternative to fixing the problem. I believe that developing nations are better off without mining majors in operation within them because of the possibility for government corruption. Developing nations are better off without mining majors because the country is seen as a target for large revenue gains, the Global Business Standards Codex and fair treatment of local people can often be disregarded at the expense of profits. Artisanal miners live in or around mines and generally do all of their work by hand, including the extraction of ore, to make a living. As these people live on the mine, if a company wants to buy the mine then they have to move the whole town elsewhere. In accordance with the fairness principle, which has always been involved with ethical thought (Paine et al. 2005), the mining company should provide housing for the artisanal miners. However, by doing this, the company is taking the miners away from their source of money and livelihood, which creates an imbalance. An example of this is the Canadian mining company in Essakane, Burkina Faso (Siegel 2013). As global mining companies seek new avenues of revenue they are increasingly turning to the developing world. In developing countries mining is used by locals as a source of income when farms fail, which is becoming increasingly common with global warming. The increasing number of artisanal miners causes ... From an examination of the epistolary Marcus Aurelius in Love, the expression of appreciation, longing, and concern between the erastes and the eromenos is evident and of great interest. In comparing the letters exchanged between Marcus Aurelius and Fronto with Chapter One of Meditations, there is an observable change in the manner that Marcus Aurelius articulates his thoughts and feelings for Fronto, showing that his sentiments for his mentor have changed from great admiration to remorse. ... Even so, Marcus Aurelius shows that he was able to prevent himself from rushing into having intercourse with his wife.
