Critical Analysis Of Serving In Florida By Barbara Ehrenreich
Serving in Florida Barbara Ehrenreich is a best selling author, who wrote the descriptive narrative
essay titled, Serving in Florida . In this writing, Ehrenreich tells the readers about her experiment into
seeing if it was truly possible to live off of minimum wage, in a low wage community located in
Florida. Ehrenreich initially published this writing in her novel called Nickled and Dimed, but since
then, it has also been published in other books for students in school. In Serving in Florida ,
Ehrenreich finds a place to live for about $500 per month. While living there, she had a waitressing
job, paying 2.13 per hour plus tips. Throughout the writing, Ehrenreich described the obstacles that
made it almost impossible to live off of only minimum wage.
Nowadays, everyone living on their own, hopes to have a good job that pays the bills and lets them
live comfortably. In the writing Serving in Florida , Barbara Ehrenreich made a bold move, and she
conducted an experiment where she tested if it was possible to make a living off of minimum wage.
Ehrenreich found a place to live and got her waitressing job, paying 2.13 an hour plus tips. She was
ultimately focusing on the lives of people who were forced to live off of minimum wage. Ehrenreich
described all of this as an experiment to test a mathematical proposition . During the 20th century,
economic progress took over the idea of poverty, while employees rights got taken away. This made

Counsel For The Accused Criminal Essay
Introduction: My practicum for the year is downtown Seattle, at the Associated Counsel for the
Accused (ACA). Note: There is also an ACA location in Kent, Washington as well. The ACA, like
many other public defender units, is one of the four division in the department of Public Defense. The
Department of Public Defense, assigns counsel to those who need an attorney. This is screened by the
type of crime, the age of the accused criminal, and etc. Once a client is assigned to one of the
divisions, that division must then decide who will individually represent that client. The main purpose
of the ACA is too provide defense to those who are charged with a crime, and cannot afford someone
to defend them. The ACA is filled with attorneys who work with different populations of people.
These populations include juveniles, drug court, dependency youth, and many more. The public
defenders in this agency work closely with social workers to maintain necessary info, in order to
provide the right amount of support, and background to those they are defending. Having this report
from social workers can help the defender decide the best way to represent their client. Structure:
Some public defenders utilize the social workers more than others. For example, there is one senior
attorney per division in the building. I work with the juvenile division at the ACA. The role of the
senor attorney here is to manage the social workers and the attorneys underneath her. She usually

Lbc Essay
The future of the LBC remains uncertain and worrying. The inappropriate upbringing and scarce
education opportunities allow little upward social mobility for the LBC. They are almost destined to
follow their parents step into the cities when they grow up and perform low paying jobs. Although
their parents contribute much to China s booming economy, the LBC barely benefit from any of it.
From a utilitarian perspective sacrificing the welfare of 1 in 5 children may be acceptable. However,
the society is the one to pay a higher price in the future when the generation of LBC comes of age. To
abandon these children and let the vicious cycle continue is not sustainable for both economic and
societal development. With lower fertility rate and ageing population, the relative impact of the 61
million increases. It is up to the society to decide whether they should contribute to improve or worsen
quality of population.
The well being of LBC concerns the vital interests of millions of migrant worker who are the main
influencing factor in the success of urbanization. Educate and mentor LBC relates to improvement of
the overall quality of the population and the society. A successful solution to the problem ... Show

Establishing a long lasting relationship with a trusted mentor can act as protective mechanism for a
left behind child. College students are most suitable for playing the role of mentors for a number of
reasons. First of all, they can be the role models for LBC because they represent the best education
and can naturally be influential. They are well educated individuals who understand the issue of LBC
and know how to communicate with children. As soon to be leaders in the society, they are the ones to
be in the position to solve the issue and they need to experience the context. In a lot of ways, the

Federalism in America and India
The Federalism of US and the Federalism of India have a number of similarities and differences
between them. However, by and large, they are successful.
The Similarities and Differences between American Federalism and Indian Federalism
Being the largest democratic countries in the world, both United States and India are based on
federalism in their political structure. US became a Federal Republic State by promulgating its
constitution in the year1789; whereas India became a Socialist, Sovereign, Secular, Democratic
Republic by formally launching its constitution only in the year 1950.Thereby both countries had
attained dominion status in which a number of smaller states had got affiliated forming a union with a

5)Powers of Checks and Balances:
Though there exists a clear cut division of labor known as separation of powers into executive,
legislature and judiciary in both countries, still there is a threat. to democracy. A strong and dynamic
leadership at the helm of powers as the executive and acting with unlimited powers may lead to
arbitrariness. After all power corrupts power; absolute power corrupts absolutely; in the result
democracy may become a laughing stock and virtually unworkable. Hence, in order to prevent
unwieldy growth of any one of these three divisions, a fantastic mechanism known as powers of
checks and balances has been maintained in both countries. In other words, each division of power is
somehow or other checked and controlled by other divisions of power.
In the US, the President as the chief executive power appoints his members of Kitchen Cabinet and he
is the Supreme Commander in Chief of Army,Navy and the Air Force. He appoints the Chief Justice of
the Supreme Court of the US. He enters into treaties with other countries. However, his treaties must
be approved by the House of Senate.Otherwise, the treaty will not come into force. Though President
Woodrow Wilson was the chief architect of the League of Nations that came into being after the first
world war,US could not become a member of it since the House of Senate did not approve it.Thus
important policy decisions must be necessarily approved by the House of Senate, which

Comparing Single And Married Life In The United States
Nowadays, people in the world are more like to be single because they think they can have more
money, freedom, and time for entertainment. During these three decades the average age of marry is
increase in my country. The lives of people who are single differ from who are married in terms of the
amount of money they can make and spend, having freedom, and having entertainment. First, the lives
of single and married people are different in terms of basic life expenses. Obviously, married people
have to spend more money for basic life expenses such as, housing, insurance, utilities, and foods. On
the other hand, Single people spend less money for these mentioned expenses. Married people can
make more money if both couple have a job. In contrast, single people have to make money by their
own. In addition, the lives of single and married people are different in terms of having the ability to
do anything they want. For example, married people can t do road trip whenever they want because
they have to check that with their spouse at first, while single people can decide to do unplanned trip
with their friends. Married people can t go anywhere they want. For instance, they can t go to bar
restaurant after 10 pm. By comparison, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Within the film, Edward Scissorhands, we are shown many different characters, stories, and people.
There are many differences shown between Edward Scissorhands and the townspeople, this is easily
viewed through the costumes they are wearing. Edward s costume consists of a black leather vest with
a variety of different dark belts around his waist, neck and on his arms, his costume also consists of
dark leather pants, which also has a variety of dark belts around his legs. This is also shown in Edward
s pale and scarred face, and in his black hair. Edwards costume relates to the dark, gothic world. The
residents of the town Suburbia wear costumes that consist of pastel colours and tacky clothing. The
difference between the costumes of Edward and the residents also connects us to what the two world
themes are, one that is dark, bland, and gothic and one that is colourful and tacky. This shows the two
different worlds, one that is gothic and one that is simple, colourful, and regular. Edwards costume
shows darkness, horror, and fear, which shows that his costume relates to the dark, gothic world. The

Lyndon B. Johnson s Immediate Advocacy of the Tonkin Gulf Resolution President Lyndon B.
Johnson s immediate advocacy of the Tonkin Gulf Resolution, acting as head of state, influenced
Congress to unintentionally give him a blank check in conducting the Vietnam War. Johnson s
accusation of unjustified attacks on American ships by the North Vietnamese in the Gulf of Tonkin led
to the resolution s nearly unanimous passage in Congress three days later. Although with the passage
of time the certainty of these attacks has come into question, President Johnson through his
presidential powers was able to get the Tonkin Gulf Resolution passed, which gave him near free reign

North Vietnamese defense forces were expected to be quite active because covert operations were
being carried out by boats out of Danang, South Vietnam under Operations Plan 34A (OPLAN 34A).
These OPLA 34A raiders attacked the North Vietnamese islands of Hon Me and Hon Ngu during the
first hours of July 31. The Maddox was aware of these covert operations, but did not plan its route
based on them. During the afternoon of August 2, three North Vietnamese torpedo boats from the
island of Hon Me attacked the Maddox when it was not far by, and this was the first attack. The
Maddox left the Gulf of Tonkin afterwards, but returned on August 3, with the USS Turner Joy, as
they were heading away from the North Vietnamese coastline they believed they were being attacked,
and opened fire. Most of the presumed attacking vessels appeared on the radar screen of the Turner
Joy, but not on the radar of the Maddox. Some men aboard the destroyers believed that what had
appeared on the radar were ghost images, while others believe that they were actual torpedo boats
attacking them. This incident is referred to as the second attack, and the following afternoon
retaliatory air strikes approved by President Johnson were carried out. (2) The Johnson administration
s presentation of what occurred in the Gulf of Tonkin on August 2 and 4 must be taken in context with
their eagerness for a resolution. Their account of the events stated that on August 2, the Maddox while

A Study On Old Maria Luisa Nava
Brianna Nava

AP English Literature
April 3, 2015
Flee It was 18 years ago on October 28, 1996 at Dallas Presbyterian Hospital, Texas, where 22 year
old Maria Luisa Nava was as she was as she was almost 40 weeks pregnant and about to give birth to
her soon to be daughter. Maria Luisa is a small and reserved young woman. She is fairly the typical
Mexican woman that is apart of the thousands of illegal immigrants who are crossing the border
frequently to give birth to their babies in the United States of America. Maria Luisa had bigger things
in mind for her baby girl rather than living in a city where poverty is a major subject of matter.
Numerous days prior to her being at Dallas Presbyterian Hospital, Maria Luisa was in her hometown,
Jaripo, Michoacán. It was a Sunday afternoon and Maria Luisa had just turned off the stove, where she
had just finished cooking the popular Mexican soup, menudo (as it is apart of the Mexican tradition to
cook and eat on Sundays). Her little brothers, Hector and Noe, had just turned on the 5 o clock news.
As Maria Luisa was pouring soup into 4 bowls for her mother, little brothers, and for herself, she
overheard that there is a rising problem occurring in the United States where pregnant mothers
(mainly) from Mexico and Canada, cross the border hoping to give birth in the United States, so their
newborn will be born an American citizen. Seconds later, Maria Luisa took this risky opportunity into
consideration, she then

Essay The Salem Witchcraft Trials of 1692
The Salem Witchcraft Trials of 1692
The Salem witchcraft trials of 1692, which resulted in 19 executions, and 150 accusations of
witchcraft, are one of the historical events almost everyone has heard of. They began when three
young girls, Betty Parris, Abigail Williams and Ann Putnam began to have hysterical fits, after being
discovered engaging in forbidden fortune telling (not dancing naked in the woods) to learn what sorts
of men they would marry. Betty s father, the Reverend Samuel Parris, called in more senior authorities
to determine if the girls affliction was caused by witchcraft. Although Betty was sent away fairly soon,
and did not participate in the trials, the other girls were joined by other young and mature

Whereas in the past everyone in a locality had followed the same religion, people were now exposed
to Christianity and the local religions of people who had moved to their region, or whose regions they
had moved to. In the cities of central and southern Africa, many local religions and Christian sects
could be found, as well as Islam. Belief in witchcraft tended to unite people across religious
differences. Typically, the names brought to witch finders were those of the same sort of local enemies
we have become familiar with in reading about the Azande. As the frenzy increased, people began to
be accused who had not aroused any particular jealousies, possibly because they possessed a peculiar
bag or horn, which might be said to contain medicine in one reported case, such a container did indeed
contain medicine but ordinary physical medicine, not magical substances. These crazes tended to die
down, often after considerable conflict and property damage, and the witch finders would then move
on to the next town. As witchcraft accusations still occur in the area, we can conclude that the
movements did not get rid of witches forever, nor, unlike the situation Salem or Europe, did belief in
witchcraft itself actually end with the witch crazes.
The actual execution of witches was not usually a feature in African witchcraft, so there was probably
less to repent in the end, though there

Essay On Deportation In The Military
Ultimately, anyone who serves in the United States military should receive automatic and
unconditional citizenship. Everyday there are hundreds of immigrants serving in every branch of the
military, but not one of them is promised citizenship. Anyone who wears our uniform, fights to defend
our constitution and is an American soldier should never be subjected to deportation. However, our
current immigration policy doesn t even allow a judge to consider a defendant s military service.
Under the Immigration and Nationality Act there is a requirement of mandatory detainment and the
removal of immigrants who have committed and been convicted of aggravated felonies. The hole in
this act that allows U.S. veterans to be deported needs to be adjusted by our lawmakers and members
of congress.

Congressman Juan Vargas of San Diego has introduced a series of bills that would hold the
requirement of every branch in the military to have a naturalization office at all sites of basic training.
Democratic Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois and Nevada Democratic Senator Catherine Cortez

citizens. Trump s remark about Mexicans made him one of the most hated presidential candidate
amongst Hispanic communities. Apart from wanting to strengthen our immigration laws, Trump also
wants to implement a new tax reform. According to Trump, this reform will provide tax relief for
American families, grow our economy and make preparing taxes easier. One of his plans is to
eliminate the marriage penalty, the Alternative Minimum Tax and the death tax. He, however, wants to
keep the charitable giving deductions. His tax plan will not make single individuals, who earn less
than $25,000 or married and together earn less than $50,000, owe any income tax. His reform will also
decrease tax brackets from the current seven to four. These brackets will be divided into 0%, 10%,

the impact tip and the impact center affect the injury degree and lesions. An optimized 9mm tip is used

How Important Was the Role of Women During Wwi Essay
How important was the role of women during world war 1
The early rush of volunteers and later the conscription of men led to a shortage of manpower on the
home front. Women, already working in munitions factories were encouraged to take on jobs normally
done by men. This was the start of major social change. Before the war, women had been content to
stay at home to bring up the family and do domestic work. It was considered unbecoming for a woman
to work. During the war it was considered unpatriotic not to. Many changes came about as shown by
the quote from A. J. P Taylor English History Women became more independent. Women paid for

slowly by Manchester and London. Women also became train drivers and greasers of the railways.
When the war was over most of the women left, or were forced to leave, the paid employment which
they had taken. Despite this the war had brought a significant change to their life s. They began to do
things the normally had never done before such as wear trousers and smoke in public. After the second

who weren t yet allowed to vote, the chance to show that they were equal to men. It forced many men
to change the way they regarded women. More people realized that women could make a contribution

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Youth Participation In...
The sport of tennis is often thought of as a country club sport limited only to the wealthy and elite.
Due to its financial requirements, people who are less fortunate are often denied opportunities to play.
Substantial expenses that accumulate from lessons, equipment, and membership fees deter potential
players from participating. Inner city youth are underrepresented due to lack of attainable resources
and programs. Aside from financial limitations, many junior athletes favor the characteristics of team
sports such as football, soccer, and basketball over the independence and isolation of an individual
sport like tennis. Not to mention, team sports are often far less costly. Due to these drawbacks and
perceptions, prospective junior tennis athletes are often more inclined to take the route of a different
sport. I believe that youth participation in tennis is deteriorating. As an avid tennis player and advocate
for the sport, I identify this as a major problem. Discovering practical methods that introduce and
attract younger players to tennis is crucial in expanding participation. Broadening accessibility to
tennis, demonstrating its positive values, and targeting specific ethnic and social groups are worthy
solutions in reversing the negative trend. Inner city kids are some who have the most difficulty
becoming involved in tennis. A large majority of these kids don t come from an economic background
capable of providing expenses required for participation in the sport. Talented underprivileged kids
may never have the opportunity to go to a country club and take lessons. More often than not, urban
areas lack the facilities and money to provide tennis programs for their kids. This economic deficit
becomes a major challenge for impoverished kids who want to learn tennis. As a result, inner city
youth neglect even the thought of playing tennis, and become underrepresented as a part of the junior
tennis community. By finding a way to give the inner city kids of poorer, urban areas the opportunities
to take part in tennis, we can expect to see participation of youth rise. One practical method to
encourage the involvement of inner city kids is to implement tennis programs in public schools. By

system. As described the endocrine system is a series of glands that work throughout the body to help
you function properly. To become an endocrinologist is a long process taking up to 10 years of
education. They then have the ability to treat and diagnose a hormone imbalance or problem in the
endocrine organs such as thyroid, pituitary, testes, ovaries, pancreas, and adrenals. Some conditions

Most are common only around 5% coming to be cancerous. Most times when a person has a thyroid

can cause what is called hyperthyroidism. Symptoms of this include palpitations, rapid heart rate,
anxiety, restlessness and an increased appetite. If your doctor suspects thyroid nodules they will do
tests such as an ultrasound or a thyroid scan. A good example of a procedure done by an
endocrinologist is an LHRH test. This test is done to see how your pituitary gland is working when it
comes to regulating sex hormone production. The night of this procedure you are to not eat or drink
anything. When you go in, you will be made comfortable and have a small needle inserted into a vein

Dulce Et Decorum Est Tone Analysis
In his poem, Dulce Et Decorum Est poet Wilfred Owen utilizes horrific imagery, angry and disgusted
tones, and a contrasting title to engage readers.
Throughout the poem, Owen makes clear two major tones. Anger and Disgust. To establish this point,
the poet says Knock kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge (lines 2 3). This reveals
how the poet was angry about being in the war because he wasn t experiencing the romanticism of war
he was experiencing suffering of fighting. An additional example is when Owen adds But limped on,
blood shod. All went lame; all blind; Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots (lines 6 8). These lines
imply Owen s disgusted tone towards the war because the soldiers were worked to death. However the
title has a completely different tone. The translated title states It is sweet and fitting to die for one s
country. This is a huge contrast to the rest of the poem because all the poet describes is the horror of
being in the war, when the title puts a glorified image in your mind that serving is heroic and
honorable. For instance, Owen states My friend, you would not tell with such high zest To children
ardent for some desperate glory, the old Lie: Dulce et decorum ... Show more content on

when the poet states Come gargling from the froth corrupted lungs, Obscene as cancer, bitter as the

Furthermore, the horrific imagery present in Dulce Et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen assists the poet

What Is The Eulogy For The Pursuit Of Happyness
Statement of Intent: In this piece of writing, the eulogy is about mourning the loss of Christopher
Gardner at the funeral, in the movie The Pursuit of Happyness . His son, Christopher who speaks at
his father s funeral showing the relationship between him and his father and also show the impact that
Christopher has made on his son. This eulogy is set shortly after the end of the movie. Welcome
everyone, we have all gathered here to mourn the loss of a good man, Christopher Gardner, my father.
I am glad that I got the chance to have a father like him. I have always admired him, adored him. He
was my role model and still is, I look up to him. He is the best dad in the world ever. I remember some
time ago when my parents separated due to some financial issues, I m not really sure though, but even
in these times, my mom left me but my father stayed on my side. He never left me, he was there when
I needed both my parents the most. He did everything in his power to keep me happy. I hope I was the
son he wanted me to be, I hope I didn t disappoint him as his son. I will never forget the words he said
to me that day, If you want something, go get it, period . I remember when he didn t have a job and we
were facing difficult times. I didn t realise the situation we were in, but now I ve realised that to get
through the night, we had to sleep in a public bathroom in a subway. Well, at that time it seemed like
an adventure but now, not as much. But we got through those time together, the times that tried to
separate us which did succeed on separating me from my mom. If it wasn t for him, if he didn t take
that one more step, we would still be sleeping in public bathrooms and I wouldn t even be here talking
to you guys. He has carried me throughout this painful but extremely helpful journey which has taught
me many things. The most important out of all is the value of life and money. When I was younger, I
didn t care how much money my parents had, I didn t care how much they spent on me. The only one
thing I did was to order them to but me useless toys, the toys which I barely played with. Now I know

Touchdown after Touchdown, point after point, but I sat motionless on the couch, like a sack of
potatoes, trying not to miss a minute of the action. The day felt like it would never end.
The morning games were beginning to end, and the afternoon games were beginning to kickoff now
and I was losing 65 55, but I knew that a comeback was still possible. Then all the stars began to
align. Within the span of 3 minutes, McCown threw a touchdown, Evans caught a touchdown and
Matt Prater nailed a field goal right through the middle of the uprights. I was now winning 97 86 with
only the Sunday night game remaining. Tonight the Vikings were playing the seemingly unstoppable
Jaguars in Jacksonville. Earlier in the day, I ended up making the last minute decision to start Murray
over McCoy, however, he still had Bortles and Fournette to play. The projections were 102 105 in his
favor, and we were neck to neck and the race was about to end.
The time had come, it was now or never. I was still sitting on the couch, but now I was sitting up
tense, panicking with blood rushing through my veins. They had just kicked off and my dad sat down
next to me with a comforting look and put his long, hairy arm over my shoulder. Trying to make me a
little more at ease he said: I m praying for you buddy.
The Jaguars were off to a hot start in the first half, with Bortles throwing two perfect touchdown
passes to Marcedes Lewis, who seemed as big as the Laestrygonians, and

Analysis Of The Book The Wes Moore
When most people hear the name Wes Moore, they think of the Wes Moore that is a decorated veteran
and author, but when Wes Moore hears his name, he thinks about not himself, but the Wes Moore
serving life in prison for first degree felony murder. They both grew up in similar settings and both
had trouble with the police, but there lives are the complete opposite now. Most people wonder how
that could happen. Each Wes ended up on totally different paths as evidenced by actions and events
that took place in each of their lives. Throughout the following paragraphs, how each Wes s life slowly
became different will become clear. The meaning of the excerpt from Sir William Ernest Henley s
poem has a lot in common with Moore s writing, The chilling truth is that his story could have been
mine. The tragedy is that my story could have been his (Moore 180). It has a lot in common because
they are both about sadness. Wes is saying that it is frightening that he could have ended up like
prisoner Wes and that it is saddening that prisoner Wes did not end up like him, while Henley is saying
that there it is fear since we do not know our future. These two pieces also talk about the future. Wes is
saying that he has a bright future in front of him while the other Wes is going to have a sad life in jail.
Henley is saying that by the time your life on Earth ends, you should not be in fear. He is also saying
that what punishments you get do not matter as long as you are in control and in

Of Isara Ed Trihemasava s To Kill A Mockingbird
One of the most notable quotes in To Kill a Mockingbird is, you never really understand a person until
you consider things from his point of view until you climb into his skin and walk around in it (Lee
39). Shadowing my father allowed me to exercise this quote. His name is Isara Ed Trihemasava, who
is an excellent choice to shadow for he is self employed, a dedicated father, as well as a diligent
person. He takes on exhausting tasks in working as an electronic retailer for several hours throughout
the week in addition to being a full time father. Shadowing him gave me an opportunity to convey a
glimpse into my future as an owner of a business along with being a parent from a male s perspective.

Being satisfied with one s life can be effortless, but for my father that is not the case. For my father to
be happy with his life, he would have to see his children succeed in goals that they have set for their
future and to not work as hard as him for a living. He would want to change his career that would give
further financial security, while having extra time to stay with family provided that he could.
According to my father, there are no clear or burdensome parts of being a parent, however being a
parent entrusts a person to be accountable for providing the basic needs for their children. For
instance, education, correct behavior, and principles. Sacrifices are typically seen with families, but
not by Mr. Trihemasava. Mr. Trihemasava stated that he did not relinquish anything, because he gives
his family his love and time as much as he can. Being a parent is always difficult, but there are no
guidelines to being a good or bad parent. In my father s opinion, teaching or telling the children what
is good for their life, what they are supposed to do, and how to prepare for their future, such as
working hard at school, is what I would consider a good parent (Trihemasava). My father repeatedly
says when you are tired, you go to sleep, when you wake up you feel refreshed, when you are hungry,
you go to sleep and wake up still hungry (Trihemasava). The intention behind this quote is to work for
necessities. Giving me the chance to shadow my father

Abstinence In American Culture
The American government considers itself a knight in shining armor fighting the ugly dragon of
injustice, and hate. In reality, it looks more like a bum, racking up debt and enforcing ignorance and
intolerance. The IRB, institutional review board, limits anthropologists from studying people they
consider vulnerable . These are groups that include: prisoners, terminally ill persons, children, people
with mental illness, and pregnant women . When the government bodies prohibit anthropologists from
studying people who fall on the fringes of these categories, they hinder understanding. having more
data about these individuals may be key to fixing the hate directed towards these demographics.
governments regulation on anthropologists enforces a system of hate and ignorance.
The American culture has this crazy notion that the government or anyone in authority cannot talk to
anyone under the age of 18 about sex, or sexuality. Unless it is in a sterile environment like a
classroom or a doctor s office. and even when these dialogues do happen, it s to enforce abstinence
only ideas. This fear of sex leads to a society of teenagers who are more likely to cause harm to
themselves or their partners. The government steps on its own toes when the IRB prohibits an

Why Are Significant Figures Important
Science has always worked hand in hand with data. Data relies on both quantitative and qualitative
data. Some examples of qualitative data are color, scent, texture, etc. Quantitative data are always in
numbers either measured or calculated such as length, volume, density, temperature, etc. The results
are always dependent on the amount of significant figures the measurement has, and so there is a large
emphasis on how many significant figures should be used in the data. The importance of significant
figures will be explained in the rest of the essay, as it is a crucial part in all calculations of chemistry.
There are rules in acknowledging what significant figures are. First rule is that all non zero numbers

The rules that were explained here are that of the course and do not reflect the policies in the textbook.
In relation to arithmetic calculations, Silberberg s rules are both similar from the course s. For
multiplying/division, the two rules are the same: the answer should contain the least amount of
significant figures used in the calculation. In addition/division, the answer should contain the least
amount of decimal places used in the calculation. In relation to rounding off, Silberberg s rules are
different. Rounding off rules are similar, except in the case when the number being rounded off is 5.
Silberberg explains that if the number preceding the 5 is odd, round up. If the preceding number is
even, it remains the same. This is in the case if there are proceeding 0s after the 5, however if there are
any other digits after 5 that aren not just 0, round up no matter what the preceding digit

It does not matter if they are documented or not, children or adults, in each case we see the unethical
state power in its treatment of non citizens. To explain this further, we will mention a few examples of
what Carens means by this as well as the merits of the argument. For example, if a person is residing
within an specific polity as undocumented, throughout the years (this is something that should be
contemporary relevant for all of us) the person will have created a huge network of social ties and
multiple distinct types of relationships. After several years of a person doing this, one must see the
moral claim that a person should have the right to citizenship. The contemporary rules to acquire
citizenship are made from beliefs and they violate the human right to freedom of conscience.
Renouncing other citizenships serves no purpose for the state. In fact, these are abuses that will
discriminate against the poor (the process is expensive), and the civic citizenship test is an
undemocratic standardize test that reveals nothing else the unfairness and nation centric view of the
state. As a side note, the only edge that Carens is willing to accept, on the conventional assumption
that states have sizeable moral discretion over border policies, is the absence of a criminal record, but
only the absence of a criminal record that would morally warrant and actually result

Denver and her mother, Sethe, that lived together in a house. That house was passed down to them by
Denver s grandmother, Baby Suggs, which was given to her by a white couple who were out to help

lurking in the outside world. They also had a spirit that was haunting their house, which was believed
to be Denver s sister that was killed as a baby. Until one day, Paul D came to the house and banished
the ghost. But the ghost ended up taking human form and stayed with the family from then on. They

she was as happy as can be. Beloved was the only friend or even company that Denver ever had

The Progressive Movement
The progressive movement, the era of change in a New America , occurred in the late 19th century
into the early 20th century. Debated as the most influential time in history, this period birthed three
amendments (17th, 18th, and 19th) along with much social and political change. Sandwiched between
societal depression , this was a breath catching interlude of reform and social justice. This movement
was definitely a people s movement. But what caused it? How did it start and why?
One of the sparks in the blaze called the Progressive Movement was the shadow cast upon the
working class by big business and corrupt politics (The Gilded Age). The big business interacted with
and basically controlled politics (mainly because of monetary control). John Powell said in his article,

progressives came from a long tradition of middle class elites possessing a strong sense of social duty
to the poor. Progressives felt an obligation to help the lower class. The biggest group that helped were
middle class women. These women helped immigrants to speak English, helped with child care, and
helped with health care (Red Cross). Along with immigrants, lower class citizens were also helped.

There must be no barriers to freedom of inquiry. There is no place for dogma in science. The scientist
is free, and must be free to ask any question, to doubt any assertion, to seek for any evidence, to
correct any errors. Our political life is also predicated on openness. We know that the only way to
avoid error is to detect it and that the only way to detect it is to be free to inquire. And we know that as
long as [we] are free to ask what [we] must, free to say what [we] think, free to think what [we] will,
freedom can never be lost, and science can never regress. J. Robert Oppenheimer A man who is almost

He obtained his PhD afterward in Germany from the prestigious University of Göttingen.
Oppenheimer was always a brooding and intense man. As a youth he suffered some degree of torment
from kids his age for his bookish tendencies. During his college years, he sustained several bouts of
depression. Looking back at his college years, Oppenheimer remarked that virtually everything
aroused a very great sense of revulsion and wrong. He had a tendency to ask difficult questions of his
professors. After his oral PhD exam, one of his evaluators was reputed to have said that Phew, I m
glad that s over. He was on the point of questioning me. In 1929 Oppenheimer returned to the United
States to take up teaching positions at Berkeley and Cal Tech. During the 30 s, Oppenheimer began to
become associated with a variety of heavily left wing organizations affiliated with Communism. This
was mainly due to the repression of several Jewish relatives in Nazi Germany. He married Katherine
Harrison in 1940, who was a member of the Communist party and had two children. He also started to
distance himself from his former leftist friends and groups. This was probably largely done to make
himself more attractive to obtaining the post of head of development for atomic bombs. Historian
Daniel Kevles called World War II the Physicist s War. World War II represented the greatest

The Scope Of Psychoanneuroimmunology
C) Psychoneuroimmunology:
Psychoneuroimmunology is an inter disciplinary science that combines the fields of Psychology,
Neurology and Immunology. Primarily, it studies the connection between mental processes and
physical health through the interaction between immune system and neural synapses. The approach is
to see human body as an inter connected, inter dependent system which operates in accord. The range
of Psychoneuroimmunology is simply exhaustive. The impact of human thoughts, emotions, feelings,
behaviour, and environment on the physical body varies from person to person; depending upon an
individual s biological history. This intensely dissolves the already dated mind body distinction. The
two are cohesive, and work as a single unit. It is interesting to note, this new insight in the medical
field bears remarkable parallels to Patañjali s model of Yoga. Akin to Psychoneuroimmunology, ...

Remarkably, the study establishes cellular consciousness. It is not a brain centred system, wherein
brain dominates body. Every cell has the wisdom of its own. Emotions comes first, molecules
manifest after; emotions create the peptides. If we accept this, the question arises, where do Emotions

molecular reactions or neuropeptides. Neuropeptides then proceed to alter the mental and physical

Video Games Are The Most Revolutionary Form Of Art
To quote the famous game designer Santiago Sir Games are not just art, they are the most
revolutionary form of art mankind has ever known about . Video games are a hybrid form of art that
brings together multiple forms of art. Video games are very aesthetic. They achieve this through the
use of their realistic graphics, in depth development of the story, and the emotional attachment built
overtime with the game. Video games have come a long way in the development of the graphics
system. To really understand the substantial innovations that have been made, one needs to understand
where the original graphics started. The original video games used vector based graphics, which uses
geometric primitives to produce an image. This was common for arcade games. These vector based
graphics were mainly two dimensional and had little detail. For the time that these games released it
was an amazing feat of art that they could use math to produce these images and have a reaction
through the use of a joystick and buttons. Video games of the modern time we live in have blown this
feat of the past out of the water. The common form of producing graphics in a video game now uses
resolution based bitmap graphics to develop images. These image can be three or two dimensional and
have detail down to a bead of sweat rolling down your cheek or the swift movement of the grass and
landscape. Skyrim is a modern day video game that has achieved this feat of art. Skyrim s new game

exhibit are: Garry Noland, Gerry Trilling, and Julie Peppito. I have never truly analyzed art before,
and a textile museum was the last place I pictured myself at Florida Tech. As soon as I walked in I felt
like I was in a whole different world. There were beautiful pieces of handmade jewelry, and scarves
for sale all over the walls and shelves. The walls were pure white, and looked very modern. Banners
hung from the second floor ceiling down to the ground behind the desk. The banners read Ruth Funk
Center for Textile Arts. I knew this exhibition was going to be beautiful as soon as I walked in, and I
was right. The exhibition beautifully showed how one can view different aspects of life and
demonstrated the necessity of reusing waste and finding beauty and detail in everything around us.
The first piece that jumped out at me was by Garry Noland, it was sitting on the ground and looked
like three beautiful shiny rocks that were dipped in gold paint. Upon greater observation I realized that
they weren t rocks at all, they were pieces of dirty used Styrofoam with brand new shiny gold duct
tape on top. The piece had three main parts. The smallest piece, which was pale orange and had

Lord of the Flies Commentary
Passage Commentary: Lord of the Flies, Pages 109 111 In this passage from Lord of the Flies by
William Golding, the reader gets deep insight into Ralph s mind and how the boys are adapting to life
on the island. Occurring around the middle of the novel, this passage dives into the thoughts of Ralph
to see what he is really feeling about being stranded. It shows how the other boys are coping, and it
demonstrates the two different sides of the island; the reader now sees the dangerous, wild side
representing the savagery of the boys, and the safe, light side representing their innocence. When the
reader looks at the passage with an inquisitive eye, one will see that Golding s choice in tone and
content gives the passage many levels of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The island has the light and the dark side. This is a symbol for the light and dark side of the boys on
the island. The safe side is described in a happy and hopeful tone using words such as filmy
enchantments, mirage, dream of rescue, and irresistible. But as the reader dives into the other side, one
feels the hope drain out and the author begins to use words such as cold, clipped, hard, and
condemned. The ocean is characterized as having Shining hair, arm of surf, fingers of spray, and rising
with a roar. Here the reader sees how Golding personifies the ocean and one watches as the sea taunts
Ralph, showing the power of nature over man. The emphasis of the dark tone used by the author adds
to the feeling of the passage. The words chosen by Golding were clearly chosen thoughtfully to give
the darkness meaning, layers and depth to the description. As the reader ends the passage, the dark
tone continues with words such as, painful, gripped, and stiff. This dark description leads up to the last
sentence of the passage said by Simon: You ll get back to where you came from. The emphasis of the
quote is clearly on the word you as in the later chapters the reader sees the death of Simon. Simon has
insight into Ralph s thoughts here. The reader can see, with a close read, that Simon has insight into
what Ralph is thinking without Ralph even speaking aloud. Here,

Civil Disobedience In America
Civil disobedience is the refusal to conform to certain laws as a form of harmless political protest,
while being aware of the consequences that could result because of it. Peaceful resistance to laws
positively impacts a free society because actions are taken due to people letting their voice be heard.
While some may argue that the main reasons of this are the five basic rights mentioned in the first
amendment (freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly, and petition), this issue goes far beyond
that. Without civil disobedience, many historical events might have not played such an important role
as they did to the point that they changed America in numerous ways; not to mention the courageous
people who still take part in protests today to claim the rights they should have. Take African
American activist Martin Luther King Jr. as an example of a man who violated unjust laws but
willingly accepted the punishment that came ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nonetheless, the issues today could not possibly be as unprincipled as the ones back in the day. For
instance, on 28 September 2016, African American Intelligence Specialist, Janaye Meishawn Ervin,
refused to stand for the national anthem in Pearl Harbor. Although this reservist knew the
consequences of her actions due to the oath of enlistment and article 15 under the Uniform Code of
Military Justice regarding non judicial punishment, she did not conform to these familiar concepts
because she claimed that it would be hypocritical of her to even sing The Star Spangled Banner about
the land of the free when those rights are not given to all Americans. However, she will not be
punished through assassination nor prosecution like the old times, but rather through restriction to
certain specified limits or suspension from

Essay on The History of the Beatles
The History of the Beatles
The Beatles are known to many as one of the greatest bands of all time. Their music has influenced
many people, including the Queen of England, future musicians, parents, and teens. All four, Ringo
Starr, Paul McCarteny, John Lennon, and George Harrison, were knighted by the
Queen. The controversy of the statement made by John Lennon that sparked protesters everywhere to
burn countless records. Teens were influenced by the peaceful lyrics and hippie messages. Numerous
musicians of today count the Beatles among of their inspirations. The modern rock band Oasis has
stated that they get their greatest influence from the Beatles (Lewisohn, 56).

He had an Irish heritage, and was the son of a friendly local bus conductor (Schaffner, 19). George
was only sixteen when he joined the band, which was, at that time, The Quarrymen. He was allowed
to join because John was very impressed that he could play Raunchy, a popular song at the time, note
for note
(Lewisohn, 3). As soon as George joined, he, Paul, and John dropped out of school (Schaffner,
19).
This band had three guitarists, singers, and songwriters, but no bass or drums. After trying many
people, they finally settled on Pete Best on drums. They recruited Stuart Sutcliffe on bass, and
although he was a talented artist that John had met at school, he could hardly play his instrument
(Wiener, 4). The new band had no name, and their early inspirations were Buddy Holly, and the
Crickets. John created the name Beatles, because I [John] was looking for a name like the
Crickets that means two things. From Crickets I went to Beatles... when you said it people thought of
crawly things, when you read it it was beat music. (Schaffner, 20). So the Beatles were born.
They began to play at a club called The Cavern in Liverpool, after a destructive tour in Hamburg,
Germany. Soon after this, Stuart became engaged and left the band. To compensate, Paul picked up the
bass and became the permanent bassist. After hearing the young Beatles at The Cavern,
Brian Epstein signed on as manager. Soon after, George Martin

the land under cultivation.
The physical map in Figure 2 shows that France s major mountain ranges are mostly in the south,
including the Alps, Pyrenees, and Massif Central. Its major rivers are the Seine, Rhine, and Rhône.
About a quarter of the land area is covered in forests which is a valuable environmental resource.

Africa s Health Care Crisis Essay
The residents of Africa are suffering from preventable, treatable, and fatal diseases everyday at a
higher rate compared to developed countries. The healthcare crisis in Africa is the primary cause of all
these deaths, and includes inefficient healthcare systems. Consequently, African s inefficient
healthcare systems results in poor delivery of care and a shortage of health professionals. The
healthcare crisis in Africa is a current issue impacting the lives of many African s who don t have the
same access to resources as developed countries such as the United States. These resources can save
the lives of many African s dying of preventable and curable disease, and understanding why the

The health of many women in Algeria which is part of Sub Saharan Africa in 1990 were impacted by
the poor health care system because they lived in poverty. Poverty caused these women to lack
essential needs to live a quality life. They lacked or could not afford resources such as supplies, health
care professionals, and facilities for healthcare, clean water, and waste disposal. This ultimately
affected the health of women and their children. For instance, lack of clean water and waste disposal
facilities can cause health abnormalities such as cholera or typhoid fever which can cause devastating
deaths. This is a healthcare problem because of the lack of funding. The lack of funding prevents
antibiotics from being used to prevent death, and prevents African s from being vaccinated against
typhoid fever. Another example of how poverty affects woman s health is unintended pregnancy,
which is because they are more likely to engage in risky sexual behavior. It s part of the health crisis
because it includes a poor health system, and a lack of education about proper nutrition and behaviors
during pregnancy. Complications in these pregnancies due to poor nutrition and not visiting the doctor
regularly includes increased infant mortality. Infant mortality in the slums of Nairobe is 91.3% while it
is 75.9% in urban areas where there is a better developed healthcare system. The inferiority of poor

Literary Analysis Of John Keats s Ode To Autumn
Analysis of John Keats Ode to Autumn
My initial reaction to this work evoked a taste of wanting to taste the fruit of season. The poem, Ode
to Autumn, also reverted me back to my years of early reading when I read The Secret Garden . I am
enamored by the way Keats almost makes me see the fruit and vines. Reading about the symbionic
relationship that takes place between the sun and the changing season is awe inspiring; as it relates to
the reaction or the beauty that is created based on that relationship.
Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom friend of the maturing sun (MindEdge, 2014).

His friend Hunt introduced him to many well known people in the Liberal movement. The Romantic
period was wrought with people questioning things through scientific expansion, rationalism and
individualism which helped people to understand the God in things but also wanted to know more
about the science of it all. Which can explain Keats desire to become a surgeon and then to progress to
become a poet gives credit to how Romantics were interested in nature but also in the science that can
explain its splendor (Keats, 1936).
Stylistic Characteristics Keats poem Ode to Autumn is part of series of poems. This particular poem
was the most popular for its contrasting simplicity. He makes you see the relationship of nature by
describing the relationships and reactions. For example the in the first stanza he speaks of the arrival
of autumn and the way the sun works to develop the rest of his surroundings such as the grapes,
gourds and vines. In the poem he references the music of the summer and how the music of the
welcoming of autumn is heard in the gnats, crickets, robins and swallows (Keats, 1936). It is a very
natural way to see the world from Keats perspective. Until now no one has ever given the subjective
experience of surroundings.
Current Relevance
The work of John Keats remains to be taught in primary education. It

Lessons from The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett Essay
The Maltese Falcon is a novel written by Dashiell Hammett in 1929. It was originally published by
Alfred A. Knopf, Inc., New York, in 1930. Readers and critics see this book as one of the best
detective novels ever written, but they also see it as a great piece of literature. With 217 pages, it is an
easy read but is a stimulating story.
The main character of this book is a private investigator named Sam Spade. The story revolves around
him being lied to and interrogated constantly by people who are hiring him to find the statue called
The Maltese Falcon. It was believed to have priceless jewels and other forms of wealth within the
inside of the ordinary statue. The conflict shows up after several different events mentioned in the

She makes up an entire story just so she can track down another person, Floyd Thursby, who is also
looking for the bird (The Maltese Falcon). So Spades partner, Miles Archer, takes the responsibility of
tailing Thursby. Unfortunately, Thursby and Archer are both later found dead. So the police soon start
questioning Spade on suspicion he had something to do with it and at the same time Spade is
questioning Miss Wonderly, whose real name is actually Brigid O Shaughnessy. After he gets what he
hopes is the total truth, another man named Joel Cairo comes out and asks Spade to find the bird for
$10,000 and after that an even more serious man named Casper Gutman offers Spade more than
everyone else to get the bird. Spade is the only one that knows where it is and is still being questioned
by the police. When the morning finally comes when Spades secretary picks up the falcon from the
train station Gutman above all is excited. He starts scratching away at the enamel which should have
gold underneath but he soon enough realizes that there is nothing but lead underneath it. Disappointed
he offers everyone to go out and get it back from the Russian Constantinople who switched the real
one. Cairo accepts the offer and they leave. Immediately Spade phones the police and gives them all
the names of the murderers and everyone involved. They catch them all and Spade then turns in Brigid
even though they had become so close.

America s Nutritional Standards
As early as the 19th century, there has been increased efforts to rebuild America s nutritional
standards. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) was organized to provide insights on
issues related to public policies such as agriculture, nutrition and food safety. In efforts to help guide
Americans in establishing healthier nutrition plans, the USDA has implicated various visual aids. As a
result of globalization, there has been various revisions done on nutrition visual aids, which was
fraught with different interpretations. These visual aids plays a significant role in the health education
of the general public in which it educates people how to eat and stay healthy. As a result of
globalization, there has been a gradual change ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
USDA s main concern during this time period, as it continuously is today, was to educate Americans
on food groups, serving sizes, and the balance between food intake and energy (Mudry 346).
Specifically in a memorable method on informing citizens on the importance of variety and
proportionality, the USDA published an illustration of a food pyramid that could communicate
quantitative information and concepts (Mudry 346). In 1991, the USDA announced the release of the
Eating Right Pyramid, an icon designed to illustrate the federal government s recommendation s for
eating healthy. It is emphasized that twentieth century development of the science of nutrition
contributes to the refiguring of public conceptions of good food and a proper diet. (Mudry 339).
Judgements are simplified as a result of the Eating Right Pyramid. Farther implicating the principle of
science of nutrition, the USDA s Eating Right Pyramid accentuates the principles of nutritionism. The
bases of nutrition include the assumptions that the hidden chemical elements, and the quantities of
those elements of a food are its most important feature and that understanding these hidden chemical
constituents will inevitably improve our health (Mudry

Pornography Viewed by The Four Ethical Standards Essay
The word Pornography is defined as writings, photographs, movies, etc., intended to arouse sexual
excitement . With each year that passes pornography has been more and more accepted, it can be seen
in books, magazines, cable television and most of all through the internet. Many religions go against
it, but at the same time people know that there is a reason why people go into the business and
accepted it an other people just like it. In this paper I will talk about pornography and how it is viewed
by the four ethical standards (Utilitarian, Kant, Human Rights and Justice is Fairness). Utility
(Utilitarian) is measured by the amount of benefits for all people or greatest number of people. By this
pornography is accepted since it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Off course there are exemptions on which people are brought into the business against there own will.
By this standard if you choose to go into the business then by K 2 standards it is ethical. K 1 applies
the Universality principle, which asks the question Would a person in a similar circumstance do the
same thing? Most of the people who are in the pornography business know that they could be making
money in another way. And if asked, they would not like their son or daughter to follow their steps. By
this it would flunk the K 1 standard. K 3 applies the publicity test, which asks Would I be willing to
tell my grandmother? By majority nobody would tell their grandmother about it, if he or she is
working in pornography. It would flunk the publicity test. Human Rights are what more people are
concerned with. Pornography fits in where people have the freedom of speech, life and the right to
pursue happiness. While people are doing it by their own means and have the adequate age then
pornography is all right. In my opinion pornography does violate welfare rights, since pornography is
not considered a moral and ethical way of living because it is not a descent environment. Pornography
under the principle of equal liberty it is accepted since it gives liberty to choose. But the only thing is
that not everyone respects the people who work in pornography, because they don t think it is right to
make their living in that way. Under the

For most of the next day, they prepared themselves for the four day excursion through the Oort Cloud.
To make matters worse, they woke up late as the party had lasted until one o clock in the morning!
They used Earth time not only onboard the Odyssey but also on Gnaritus since both planets had
similar spin axes of twenty three and a half degrees. However, Gnaritus solar orbit took three hundred
and seventy four days, resulting in a slightly longer year than on Earth. Consequently, the New Year
celebrations occurred at a slightly different time than on Earth! Nonetheless, Gnaritus had the

comets orbit the Sun once in thirty million Earth years. It will take four days to navigate through this
vast Oort Cloud depending, of course, on our progress. The safety precautions are similar to those on
our journey through the Kuiper Belt such as remaining in the main cabin with seat belts on if possible.
Additionally, you will dine only in the main cabin and no longer in the dining compartment. If you

  • 2. Critical Analysis Of Serving In Florida By Barbara Ehrenreich Serving in Florida Barbara Ehrenreich is a best selling author, who wrote the descriptive narrative essay titled, Serving in Florida . In this writing, Ehrenreich tells the readers about her experiment into seeing if it was truly possible to live off of minimum wage, in a low wage community located in Florida. Ehrenreich initially published this writing in her novel called Nickled and Dimed, but since then, it has also been published in other books for students in school. In Serving in Florida , Ehrenreich finds a place to live for about $500 per month. While living there, she had a waitressing job, paying 2.13 per hour plus tips. Throughout the writing, Ehrenreich described the obstacles that made it almost impossible to live off of only minimum wage. Nowadays, everyone living on their own, hopes to have a good job that pays the bills and lets them live comfortably. In the writing Serving in Florida , Barbara Ehrenreich made a bold move, and she conducted an experiment where she tested if it was possible to make a living off of minimum wage. Ehrenreich described all of this as an experiment to test a mathematical proposition . During the 20th century, economic progress took over the idea of poverty, while employees rights got taken away. Note: There is also an ACA location in Kent, Washington as well. The ACA, like many other public defender units, is one of the four division in the department of Public Defense. The Department of Public Defense, assigns counsel to those who need an attorney. This is screened by the type of crime, the age of the accused criminal, and etc. Once a client is assigned to one of the divisions, that division must then decide who will individually represent that client. The main purpose of the ACA is too provide defense to those who are charged with a crime, and cannot afford someone to defend them. The ACA is filled with attorneys who work with different populations of people. These populations include juveniles, drug court, dependency youth, and many more. The public defenders in this agency work closely with social workers to maintain necessary info, in order to provide the right amount of support, and background to those they are defending. Having this report from social workers can help the defender decide the best way to represent their client. Structure: Some public defenders utilize the social workers more than others. • 4. Lbc Essay The future of the LBC remains uncertain and worrying. The inappropriate upbringing and scarce education opportunities allow little upward social mobility for the LBC. They are almost destined to follow their parents step into the cities when they grow up and perform low paying jobs. Although their parents contribute much to China s booming economy, the LBC barely benefit from any of it. From a utilitarian perspective sacrificing the welfare of 1 in 5 children may be acceptable. However, the society is the one to pay a higher price in the future when the generation of LBC comes of age. To abandon these children and let the vicious cycle continue is not sustainable for both economic and societal development. With lower fertility rate and ageing population, the relative impact of the 61 million increases. It is up to the society to decide whether they should contribute to improve or worsen quality of population. The well being of LBC concerns the vital interests of millions of migrant worker who are the main influencing factor in the success of urbanization. • 5. Federalism in America and India The Federalism of US and the Federalism of India have a number of similarities and differences between them. However, by and large, they are successful. The Similarities and Differences between American Federalism and Indian Federalism Being the largest democratic countries in the world, both United States and India are based on federalism in their political structure. US became a Federal Republic State by promulgating its constitution in the year1789; whereas India became a Socialist, Sovereign, Secular, Democratic Republic by formally launching its constitution only in the year 1950.Thereby both countries had attained dominion status in which a number of smaller states had got affiliated forming a union with a strong central government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 5)Powers of Checks and Balances: Though there exists a clear cut division of labor known as separation of powers into executive, legislature and judiciary in both countries, still there is a threat. to democracy. A strong and dynamic leadership at the helm of powers as the executive and acting with unlimited powers may lead to arbitrariness. After all power corrupts power; absolute power corrupts absolutely; in the result democracy may become a laughing stock and virtually unworkable. Hence, in order to prevent unwieldy growth of any one of these three divisions, a fantastic mechanism known as powers of checks and balances has been maintained in both countries. In other words, each division of power is somehow or other checked and controlled by other divisions of power. In the US, the President as the chief executive power appoints his members of Kitchen Cabinet and he is the Supreme Commander in Chief of Army,Navy and the Air Force. He appoints the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the US. He enters into treaties with other countries. However, his treaties must be approved by the House of Senate.Otherwise, the treaty will not come into force. Though President Woodrow Wilson was the chief architect of the League of Nations that came into being after the first world war,US could not become a member of it since the House of Senate did not approve it.Thus important policy decisions must be necessarily approved by the House of Senate, which ... Johnson s immediate advocacy of the Tonkin Gulf Resolution, acting as head of state, influenced Congress to unintentionally give him a blank check in conducting the Vietnam War. Johnson s accusation of unjustified attacks on American ships by the North Vietnamese in the Gulf of Tonkin led to the resolution s nearly unanimous passage in Congress three days later. These OPLA 34A raiders attacked the North Vietnamese islands of Hon Me and Hon Ngu during the first hours of July 31. The Maddox was aware of these covert operations, but did not plan its route based on them. During the afternoon of August 2, three North Vietnamese torpedo boats from the island of Hon Me attacked the Maddox when it was not far by, and this was the first attack. The Maddox left the Gulf of Tonkin afterwards, but returned on August 3, with the USS Turner Joy, as they were heading away from the North Vietnamese coastline they believed they were being attacked, and opened fire. • 9. A Study On Old Maria Luisa Nava Brianna Nava Mr. Black AP English Literature April 3, 2015 Flee It was 18 years ago on October 28, 1996 at Dallas Presbyterian Hospital, Texas, where 22 year old Maria Luisa Nava was as she was as she was almost 40 weeks pregnant and about to give birth to her soon to be daughter. Maria Luisa is a small and reserved young woman. She is fairly the typical Mexican woman that is apart of the thousands of illegal immigrants who are crossing the border frequently to give birth to their babies in the United States of America. Maria Luisa had bigger things in mind for her baby girl rather than living in a city where poverty is a major subject of matter. Numerous days prior to her being at Dallas Presbyterian Hospital, Maria Luisa was in her hometown, Jaripo, Michoacán. It was a Sunday afternoon and Maria Luisa had just turned off the stove, where she had just finished cooking the popular Mexican soup, menudo (as it is apart of the Mexican tradition to cook and eat on Sundays). Her little brothers, Hector and Noe, had just turned on the 5 o clock news. As Maria Luisa was pouring soup into 4 bowls for her mother, little brothers, and for herself, she overheard that there is a rising problem occurring in the United States where pregnant mothers (mainly) from Mexico and Canada, cross the border hoping to give birth in the United States, so their newborn will be born an American citizen. Essay The Salem Witchcraft Trials of 1692 The Salem Witchcraft Trials of 1692 The Salem witchcraft trials of 1692, which resulted in 19 executions, and 150 accusations of witchcraft, are one of the historical events almost everyone has heard of. They began when three young girls, Betty Parris, Abigail Williams and Ann Putnam began to have hysterical fits, after being discovered engaging in forbidden fortune telling (not dancing naked in the woods) to learn what sorts of men they would marry. Betty s father, the Reverend Samuel Parris, called in more senior authorities to determine if the girls affliction was caused by witchcraft. Whereas in the past everyone in a locality had followed the same religion, people were now exposed to Christianity and the local religions of people who had moved to their region, or whose regions they had moved to. In the cities of central and southern Africa, many local religions and Christian sects could be found, as well as Islam. Belief in witchcraft tended to unite people across religious differences. Typically, the names brought to witch finders were those of the same sort of local enemies we have become familiar with in reading about the Azande. As the frenzy increased, people began to be accused who had not aroused any particular jealousies, possibly because they possessed a peculiar bag or horn, which might be said to contain medicine in one reported case, such a container did indeed contain medicine but ordinary physical medicine, not magical substances. These crazes tended to die down, often after considerable conflict and property damage, and the witch finders would then move on to the next town. As witchcraft accusations still occur in the area, we can conclude that the movements did not get rid of witches forever, nor, unlike the situation Salem or Europe, did belief in witchcraft itself actually end with the witch crazes. The actual execution of witches was not usually a feature in African witchcraft, so there was probably less to repent in the end, though there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unlike open head injury, the impact tip positioning is relatively difficult. First, the size of the impact tip and the impact center affect the injury degree and lesions. An optimized 9mm tip is used in this protocol. Based on mouse brain anatomy, the impact center is designed to correspond to the central sagittal suture midway between coronal and lambdoid sutures. To positioning a correct injury site, the impact tip must be adjusted to the target coordinates above the sagittal suture midway and one edge of the impact tip must be vertical parallel to an imaginary horizontal line drawn between the two ears. • 15. How Important Was the Role of Women During Wwi Essay How important was the role of women during world war 1 The early rush of volunteers and later the conscription of men led to a shortage of manpower on the home front. Women, already working in munitions factories were encouraged to take on jobs normally done by men. This was the start of major social change. Before the war, women had been content to stay at home to bring up the family and do domestic work. It was considered unbecoming for a woman to work. During the war it was considered unpatriotic not to. Many changes came about as shown by the quote from A. J. P Taylor English History Women became more independent. When the war was over most of the women left, or were forced to leave, the paid employment which they had taken. Despite this the war had brought a significant change to their life s. They began to do things the normally had never done before such as wear trousers and smoke in public. After the second world war their daughter proved to be much tougher to remove from their jobs. The war gave women, who weren t yet allowed to vote, the chance to show that they were equal to men. It forced many men to change the way they regarded women. More people realized that women could make a contribution in the workplace as well as at home. The first World War could be said to have begun the movement for equal opportunities for men and women. • 16. The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Youth Participation In... The sport of tennis is often thought of as a country club sport limited only to the wealthy and elite. Due to its financial requirements, people who are less fortunate are often denied opportunities to play. Substantial expenses that accumulate from lessons, equipment, and membership fees deter potential players from participating. Inner city youth are underrepresented due to lack of attainable resources and programs. Aside from financial limitations, many junior athletes favor the characteristics of team sports such as football, soccer, and basketball over the independence and isolation of an individual sport like tennis. Not to mention, team sports are often far less costly. Due to these drawbacks and perceptions, prospective junior tennis athletes are often more inclined to take the route of a different sport. I believe that youth participation in tennis is deteriorating. As an avid tennis player and advocate for the sport, I identify this as a major problem. Discovering practical methods that introduce and attract younger players to tennis is crucial in expanding participation. Broadening accessibility to tennis, demonstrating its positive values, and targeting specific ethnic and social groups are worthy solutions in reversing the negative trend. Inner city kids are some who have the most difficulty becoming involved in tennis. A large majority of these kids don t come from an economic background capable of providing expenses required for participation in the sport. Talented underprivileged kids may never have the opportunity to go to a country club and take lessons. More often than not, urban areas lack the facilities and money to provide tennis programs for their kids. This economic deficit becomes a major challenge for impoverished kids who want to learn tennis. As a result, inner city youth neglect even the thought of playing tennis, and become underrepresented as a part of the junior tennis community. By finding a way to give the inner city kids of poorer, urban areas the opportunities to take part in tennis, we can expect to see participation of youth rise. One practical method to encourage the involvement of inner city kids is to implement tennis programs in public schools. By introducing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout the poem, Owen makes clear two major tones. Anger and Disgust. To establish this point, the poet says Knock kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge (lines 2 3). This reveals how the poet was angry about being in the war because he wasn t experiencing the romanticism of war he was experiencing suffering of fighting. An additional example is when Owen adds But limped on, blood shod. All went lame; all blind; Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots (lines 6 8). These lines imply Owen s disgusted tone towards the war because the soldiers were worked to death. However the title has a completely different tone. The translated title states It is sweet and fitting to die for one s country. This is a huge contrast to the rest of the poem because all the poet describes is the horror of being in the war, when the title puts a glorified image in your mind that serving is heroic and honorable. This was mainly due to the repression of several Jewish relatives in Nazi Germany. He married Katherine Harrison in 1940, who was a member of the Communist party and had two children. He also started to distance himself from his former leftist friends and groups. This was probably largely done to make himself more attractive to obtaining the post of head of development for atomic bombs. Historian Daniel Kevles called World War II the Physicist s War. Primarily, it studies the connection between mental processes and physical health through the interaction between immune system and neural synapses. The approach is to see human body as an inter connected, inter dependent system which operates in accord. The range of Psychoneuroimmunology is simply exhaustive. The impact of human thoughts, emotions, feelings, behaviour, and environment on the physical body varies from person to person; depending upon an individual s biological history. This intensely dissolves the already dated mind body distinction. The two are cohesive, and work as a single unit. The pandemic lasted until 1919 but its effects were very shocking to the population as it was so deadly it killed more than 50 million people and infected about 20% to 40% of the population. In the early 20th century, when the influenza was barely spreading, many people had a negative feeling, they felt fear, therefore, it led to many responses. Video Games Are The Most Revolutionary Form Of Art To quote the famous game designer Santiago Sir Games are not just art, they are the most revolutionary form of art mankind has ever known about . Video games are a hybrid form of art that brings together multiple forms of art. Video games are very aesthetic. They achieve this through the use of their realistic graphics, in depth development of the story, and the emotional attachment built overtime with the game. Video games have come a long way in the development of the graphics system. To really understand the substantial innovations that have been made, one needs to understand where the original graphics started. The original video games used vector based graphics, which uses geometric primitives to produce an image. This was common for arcade games. These vector based graphics were mainly two dimensional and had little detail. For the time that these games released it was an amazing feat of art that they could use math to produce these images and have a reaction through the use of a joystick and buttons. Video games of the modern time we live in have blown this feat of the past out of the water. The common form of producing graphics in a video game now uses resolution based bitmap graphics to develop images. These image can be three or two dimensional and have detail down to a bead of sweat rolling down your cheek or the swift movement of the grass and landscape. I have never truly analyzed art before, and a textile museum was the last place I pictured myself at Florida Tech. As soon as I walked in I felt like I was in a whole different world. There were beautiful pieces of handmade jewelry, and scarves for sale all over the walls and shelves. The walls were pure white, and looked very modern. Banners hung from the second floor ceiling down to the ground behind the desk. The banners read Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts. I knew this exhibition was going to be beautiful as soon as I walked in, and I was right. The exhibition beautifully showed how one can view different aspects of life and demonstrated the necessity of reusing waste and finding beauty and detail in everything around us. The first piece that jumped out at me was by Garry Noland, it was sitting on the ground and looked like three beautiful shiny rocks that were dipped in gold paint. The ocean is characterized as having Shining hair, arm of surf, fingers of spray, and rising with a roar. Here the reader sees how Golding personifies the ocean and one watches as the sea taunts Ralph, showing the power of nature over man. The emphasis of the dark tone used by the author adds to the feeling of the passage. The words chosen by Golding were clearly chosen thoughtfully to give the darkness meaning, layers and depth to the description. As the reader ends the passage, the dark tone continues with words such as, painful, gripped, and stiff. Civil Disobedience In America Civil disobedience is the refusal to conform to certain laws as a form of harmless political protest, while being aware of the consequences that could result because of it. Peaceful resistance to laws positively impacts a free society because actions are taken due to people letting their voice be heard. While some may argue that the main reasons of this are the five basic rights mentioned in the first amendment (freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly, and petition), this issue goes far beyond that. Without civil disobedience, many historical events might have not played such an important role as they did to the point that they changed America in numerous ways; not to mention the courageous people who still take part in protests today to claim the rights they should have.
