Master Degree Program Entry Essay
Since serving with AmeriCorps, my legal advocacy experiences and my passion for issues affecting
children and families heightened my desire to learn how to address problems by creating equitable and
humane responses central to the needs of distressed communities. This desire first led me to apply and
complete the Master s degree in Public Policy from Trinity College. This degree program enabled me
to understand the role of government and how public policy decisions impact people s everyday lives.
Since graduating, I realize that I am only equipped to contribute to social research, policy analysis and
advocacy efforts that seek to improve the systems amongst which people live, however, I lack the
ability to address the biological and psychological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The background. The early 1890s in Japan was a time when the country was experiencing major
growth and economic expansion. The political scene was far from stable. The demise of the Tokugawa
period and the unsettling establishment of the Meiji Restoration remained fresh in people s memories.
The transformation of the former Samurai class into paragons of civic society was already well
established and the abolition of the four feudal classes emancipated and liberated the nation. The
former Samurai, previously repelled by the thought of handling money or finances (the domain of the
vulgar merchant class) now slid comfortably in to key financial and banking positions, comforted by

It was during this time as an undergraduate that he chose to take advantage of furthering his skills in
Jujutsu by studying at a number of the many Jujutsu schools within the city. He pursued this study for
four years but seems to have come to the conclusion that much of what he was learning, irrespective
of style, was repetitive and basically the same. He then ceased visiting these Dojos and continued to
train on his own in his original discipline, namely, Shindo Yoshin Ryu Jujutsu. There has been much
speculation as to which schools he visited during his four itinerant years. He is said to have studied
Tenshinshinyo Ryu Jujutsu as well as Kito Ryu Jujutsu [6] and also, according to historian Dr Ryozo

Daevea made the terrible choice to enter the forbidden forest outside of their pocket sized town. The

My wife and I have developed a marketing plan for the opening of a new antique store in our
neighborhood. There are three reasons we believe this will be a profitable opportunity. First, we both
love antiques, and have learned a great deal about authenticating, pricing and conserving the value of
these pieces. Next, we have business experience from our venture in consulting work. And thirdly, one
of the major antique stores in our area has ceased operations. Develop a marketing plan for business

how to proceed in order to plan our upcoming activities. The first step was to develop a mission state

determined that we could use the internet and local business leaders to assist us in gaining the
necessary information. For our next step we would conduct a traffic study to determine which blocks
in our target area had the most favorable traffic patterns. After this, we researched the other antique

Emily Dickinson s Feelings About Death Revealed in Her...
Emily Dickinson s Feelings About Death Revealed in Her Poem, Because I could not stop for Death
Emily Dickinson grew up in New England in the late 1800s. The nineteenth century was a difficult
time period for the people of America. There was an abundance of war, epidemic, and death. Because
her house was located beside a graveyard, Dickinson saw many of the elaborate funeral processions as
they passed (Murray). Because of these experiences, death became very real to her, and it made a large
impression on her life. Conrad Aikin, one of the many critics of Dickinson s work, believes that:
Death and the problem of life after death obsessed her (15). She had a very peculiar idea about eternity
that was unlike any of the traditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Personification is a type of figurative language one uses to give abstract ideas human like
characteristics. Dickinson uses personification in this poem because it allows the reader to understand
death in a more intimate way. Death became so real to her and to her contemporaries because of the
time in which she lived. Through her life experiences, the poet became intimate with death. Because
of all the disease and epidemics in her lifetime, many of her loved ones passed away. These deaths
were very intense breaks in her life (Murray). Some critics suggest that the death of her cousin was the
inspiration for this poem (Semansky). In any event, death had a large impact on Dickinson s life. This
impact explains why she writes so descriptively about it. In this poem, death is personified as a
gentleman caller taking the lady out for a carriage ride. This personification gives the reader a better
image of the writer s idea of the coming of death.
Dickinson gives Death many characteristics that help to shape our image of him. The line He kindly
stopped for me in the first stanza, immediately gives a male gender (2). This male image gives the
reader the traditional idea of the gentleman caller. This line also reveals a kind quality of death. The
kind quality is important throughout this poem because it allows the speaker to

Men Christian Association Training School in Springfield. He created the game because he needed to

As for professional basketball leagues in 1937 Goodyear, Firestone, and General Electric started up
the National Basketball League. This league was formed by industrial teams sponsored by companies
and even independent teams. Mostly all these teams were based in the Midwest. Now after World War
II ended there was a move to establish a true nationwide league. This lead to the Basketball
Association of America being born. Now in 1949 this year was the end of the National Basketball
League and its remaining teams joined the Basketball Association of America. With all the teams
combined the National Basketball Association was formed.
For colleges Ivy League schools such as Yale, Harvard, Cornell, and Princeton formed some of the
earliest college leagues. A group of basketball writers in 1937 from New
York decided to have a basketball tournament. This is how they would name the college national
basketball team. This tournament would the 1 invitation tournament and was held at New York s
Madison Square Garden. This event took place in 1938 and the tournament winner with Temple
becoming the first national champion team. A group of coaches felt that this tournament should be
more centralized so they started their own tournament. It was the year of 1939 when they did so only a
year after the original tournament. The tournament that these coaches started up was then taking over
by the NCAA. It eventually grew into what we call today March Madness.

Compare And Contrast Tocqueville And Putnam
Tocqueville and Putnam The works of Alexis de Tocqueville have been tested by time, and as we have
begun the 21st century, a variety of his ideas have fallen by the wayside as the evolution of American
life has left them irrelevant; however, many observations laid out in Democracy in America , have
proven to hold true to this day. Of these theories authored by Tocqueville, the common theme of
individualism allows for the examination of ideas that have retained their relevance, as well as ideas
that now hold only historical purposes. Tocqueville s idea that individualism can be combatted by the
doctrine of self interest rightly understood is relevant today and is supported by Robert Putnam s
discussion on social capital and individual health; while his idea that the newspaper is an effective tool
to combat individualism is no longer relevant in today s society, as discussed in Putnam s piece on
technology and mass media. Tocqueville reintroduces the idea of ... Show more content on

Putnam states, As late as 1975 Americans nationwide chose among a handful of television programs.
Barely a quarter century later, cable, satellite, video, and the Internet provide an exploding array of
individual choice. Second, electronic technology allows us to consume this hand tailored
entertainment in private, even utterly alone (Putnam, 217). Putnam summarizes the transition of the
news as a tool to fight individualism, into an outlet of individualism nicely. While at one point
members of society received the same news at the same time; today s citizens read their self tailored
news, when it is most convenient for them, thus eliminating the unifying factor. Tocqueville s
argument that once held water has now become important only in a historical context due to this

The Existence of Absence in Keats On Seeing the Elgin...
In his sonnet On Seeing the Elgin Marbles for the First Time, John Keats presents a series of various
forms of conflict and tension. Most prominent is the poet s sense of his own fleeting existence
juxtaposed with the eternity of the Greek marble sculptures and, perhaps, with the timelessness of art
in general. However, there is another, more subtle tension between what is in existence, and what is
not, an absence which paradoxically manifests as a form of existence in itself. The presence of this
conflict within the sonnet shows Keats s self coined Negative Capability, the ability to be in
uncertainties, mysteries, doubts, without any irritable reaching after fact and reason (Keats 863).
Furthermore, the Negative Capability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The image plays heavily both on what was, the eagle soaring through the skies, and what remains, a
gaping absence: an eagle less sky and a lacking eagle. Hence, a fundamental element of the image is
the existence of an absence. Two lines later, the speaker describes the cloudy winds (7) which he does
not have. The unusual description of the winds as cloudy implies a fraught and stormy sky, and
stimulates both visual and tactile senses; yet, these same cloudy winds are absent to the speaker. Thus,
here too is an instance of the existence of absence; the vivid and sensuous imagery creates something
substantial and tangible, and, as such, the negation of the image s existence, becomes all the more
palpable; its absence becomes distinct and almost like an entity in its own right. The oxymoron dim
conceived glories (9) produces a similar tension. On a superficial level, the oxymoron is interesting in
that it combines dim, connoting darkness, with glories, which often connotes radiance or light.
Furthermore, there is a tension between the dim and conceived, the latter implying creation and thus
existence, while the first paradoxically suggests something barely or non existent. Implying the
creation of that which does not exist embodies the tension between existence and the

The Concept Of Intertextuality
Introduction
Research Background
Derived from the Latin intertexto, intertextuality is the complex relationship between texts, which
accounts for a separate field or location in which the text can act. The term intertextuality was
acknowledged as Julia Kristeva s coinage in the late 1960s in the context of structuralist and post
structuralist thoughts going at it hammer and tongs. Translation Studies, an interdisciplinary field,
centers on creating a comprehensive solution for complex problems encountered in translating
process. From the moment that the theory of intertextuality was integrated into the field of Translation
Studies in the late 1970s, the concept of translation activity has undergone a radical evolution. Since
the intertextual network has weakened the major and minor relationships between the source text and
the target ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Relevant literature review are offered in Chapter 1, exploring where a contribution to knowledge may
be situated. Chapter 2 begins by considering the origin of intertextuality theory from a number of
linguistic, literary and philosophical key figures to outline clearly its development process. Thereafter,
it is explained how intertextuality is related to translation. An explanation then follows of how
translating activity can be analyzed in terms of reading and translating when the intertextuality is
taken as an effective approach and principle. This chapter also includes considering intertextuality as
applicable to the analysis of the case adopted in this study, explaining why it is feasible to use the
framework to analyze the material. The main analyses are presented in Chapters 3 with intertextual
approach to the co translation. Fairclough s classification of manifest and constitutive intertextuality is
used to construct the structure of this part and source and target texts are then analyzed to explore
intertextual effects on translating

9.0 TOWS MATRIX The TOWS (threats, opportunities, weakness, strength) matrix is a two cell by

opportunities and treats and how they compare to a company s existing strengths and weaknesses. All
the threats, opportunities, weaknesses and strengths are listed on the outside of the matrix and

TOWS matrix is a variant of the SWOT analysis, which is another popular strategic planning method

On observation of the client, the head is rotated a little to the left as well as a slight chin poke is
noticed. Also, more bulk is noticed on the right trapezius musculature. Range of motion examination
of the cervical spine indicates pain 2 type on active and passive extension. Similarly, pain 2 type is
reproduced on right side flexion on both active and passive movement. On passive accessory
intervertebral movement examination, Postero anterior central pressure (PA) reproduces pain before
resistance at the 6th cervical vertebrae. Postero anterior unilateral pressure on the right articular

Essay on The DNA Vaccine-Induced Response of T-Cells
Nearly three hundred years ago, Edward Jenner made a scientific breakthrough as he developed a
vaccine for smallpox from cowpox pustules. By 1980, a WHO led vaccination campaign had
eradicated the disease from the face of the planet. As immunologists realized the value of this
discovery, this catalyzed research for vaccines for numerous other diseases, until scientists had not
only started discovering vaccines for previously elusive viruses such as HIV, but also for diseases such
as cancer, that weren t necessarily infectious. However, conventional vaccines that used live
attenuated or dead pathogens were limited in safety and ability to provide an adequate cytotoxic T Cell

2008), thus causing cross presentation of the antigen. This antigen presentation is essential in order to
stimulate a T response. While targeting cancer tumors, the DNA vaccine is made to code for either full
sequences or fragments of tumor antigens and delivered directly to the tumor. It is easier for more
mobile tumors such as leukemia to be targeted than the less accessible, solid ones (Rice et al. 2008).
DNA vaccine is based on the principle that T Helper cells need to be recruited in order to be able to
generate a cytotoxic T cell response. However, in cancer treatment, being able to stimulate these TH
cells is challenging, since autologous tumor antigens (Rice et al. 2008) are often not immunogenic
enough. To overcome this problem, the same plasmid is used as a vector for genes encoding non self
antigens as fusion partners , such as tetanus toxins, green fluorescent protein and immune targeting
molecules (Rice et al. 2008) that amplify the immune response. After the APCs have been loaded with
the vaccine generated antigen, they travel to the secondary lymphoid organs, where they activate naïve
T cells through a combination of MHC, co stimulatory molecules and TCR. Once CD4+ TH cells are
activated, they secrete cytokines during cell to cell interaction with B cells and bind to

Informative Speech On Racism
Racism is like an epidemic in that it is spread by communities and affects thousands of lives every
day. It is shown through speech and actions from the age range of children to elders. When in effect,
racism can become violent and flip lives upside down. Fast forward past all the civil rights movements
and efforts to halt racism, and today s society still has an abundance of racism. Eradicating racism all
together has been the goal since the beginning of time, but I believe to make people aware of actual
damage it causes is the best way to advocate how wrong this discrimination is. One of the most
impactful program I have seen to spread awareness of racism is the television hit series titled Switched
at Birth . During the specific episode, a select group of white students placed cotton balls throughout
the lawn of the Black Student Union. Since these said students were white and rich, they got away
with it. This lack of punishment from authority for such a horrendous act created an uprising within
the Union. Not only did they peacefully protest, but one member went on a hunger strike to gain
attention. The school refused to partake in the expulsion of the students and requests of equality from
the union, so the one member continued her hunger strike. Soon after this refusal of acknowledgment,
the said member was sent to the hospital as she had passed out and almost lost her life. Even after this
event, the school wanted to ignore her actions and keep the students.

The French Revolution And Neo Classical Era
Lumières
Show Title
The 18th century was a time for human knowledge to thrive, as well as the challenging of long held
dogmatic practices; this meant much change for both the commoner as well as the nobility. Lumières
is the title of our exhibition, which translates to Enlightenment in French, which we found to be most
appropriate for this era. This show title would instantly grab the audience s attention as it effectively
communicates the meaning behind the exhibit. The enlightenment was among many movements that
contributed to the progressiveness of the 1700 s during the French Revolution and Neo Classical era,
but none had nearly the impact that the Enlightenment era did for society in this time.

However, it is not until the 1760 s that the stagnation of fashion and its evolutionary pace shifts from a
gradual change to rapid progression (Payne, Winakor Farell Beck, 1992).
Our goal is to study more specifically the Neoclassical era, because this period in France gave a newly
and creative sense of style in both the arts and architecture that was very similar to those in ancient
Rome and Greece (Craske, 1997). During this conflict it caused people to recognize social status and
freedom of dress. This revolt caused civilians mainly middle class to rebel for equality and freedom
among their society (Mezler, 1998). Furthermore, our group will analyze this decline of the pompous
nobility as France is experiencing the onset of a revolution. Following this shift is the ultimate demise
of formal aristocracy, the once cynosure of all eyes has met their fate at the guillotine. A guillotine,
meant to symbolize the Reign of Terror nearing the end of the eighteenth century would perhaps be a
fitting and symbolic final piece to the exhibition.
International Location In addition to Dallas, the exhibition will also be held in Versailles, France.
As stated in Blum s introduction for the book Illusion and Reality: Fashion in France 1700 1900

structured court Louis XIV had created here. Another reason to have the exhibit here would be

The Endless Possibilities of 3D Printing Essay
Why go to stores and spend lots of money buying toys, jewelry, cups and many other plastic utilities
when you can only press one button and print them out for yourself. This futuristic idea is not only
innovating the scientific and technological world, but it is also innovating modern day households.
The possibilities of 3D printing are extremely captivating, making this one of the most exciting
innovations in recent times. 3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, makes three
dimensional solid objects from a digital model or command. To picture how this process works, 3D

Although 3 D printers are not yet a standard part of home computing equipment, the latest generation
of devices, such as Cube® by 3D Systems, the Cubex™ or Makerbot s Replicator™2X which retail
for between one and three thousand US dollars are bringing the possibility of home manufacturing one
step closer to reality (Jewell). Now the biggest difference between traditional manufacturing and 3D
printing will be the emergence of mass customization. Goods will be, infinitely more customized,
because altering them won t require retooling, only tweaking the instructions in the software.
Creativity in meeting individuals needs will come to the fore, just as quality control did in the age of
rolling out sameness (D Aveni). When you have a product that is printed out individually from
software with your own customization, then there would be no reason in buying a product that will
look like something another person can own because of its ordinary accessibility. Creating physical
3D models in a fast, easy and affordable way has great potential, especially when you can do it in the
comfort of your home. As 3D printers are becoming live in the market, they demonstrate great
potential by fostering economic growth. The implications of this revolutionary technology indeed

Essay about The National Labor Relations Board
The ability for the federal government to regulate businesses activity is given in the Constitution.
Article 1, Section 8 is known as the commerce clause; it states, Congress shall have the Power...to
regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes
(Reed, 173). Through the commerce clause, the government is able to regulate business activity by the
use of administrative agencies, which is defined as a governmental regulatory body that controls and
supervises a particular activity or area of public interest and administers and enforces a particular body
of law related to that activity or interest (Administrative Agency, 1). There are two types of regulatory

To properly examine the NLRB it is imperative to understand how it is organized. The NLRB has five
members and primarily acts as a quasi judicial body in deciding cases on the basis of formal records in
administrative proceedings. Board Members are appointed by the President to 5 year terms, with
Senate consent, the term of one Member expiring each year (NLRB.gov). In addition to the board
members there is a General Counsel, which is appointed by the President to a 4 year term and is
independent from the board. The person appointed to the position of General Counsel is responsible
for the investigation and prosecution of unfair labor practice cases and for the general supervision of
the NLRB field offices in the processing of cases. (NLRB.gov) The NLRB also has a Division of
Judges, which is made up of 40 Administrative Law Judges who hear, settle and decide unfair labor
practice cases throughout the United States.
Next, it is important to understand what the NLRB does and does not have jurisdiction over. The
NLRB does not have jurisdiction over 6 types of labors: (1) governmental employees, (2) persons
covered by the Railway Act, (3) independent contractors, (4) agricultural laborers, (5)
household/domestic workers, and (6) employees who work for their spouse or parents (Reed, 631).
Technically the NLRB has jurisdiction over everything else; however, the NLRB has a limited budget
as well as time constraints and so must limit

Gcse Film Techniques
The 2001 Baz Luhrmann Moulin Rouge production is assembled like a bunch frenzied snapshots of
what a drug induced erotic encounter would look like, or what we would imagine it would look like.
The film does not depend on dialogue but on the way you imagine a fantasy from one angle and then
another with all of extreme contrast between dark and light colors and the fast movement of the film.
Luhrman uses many different techniques to convey images to his viewers. Examples of these are mise
en scene, cinematography, and editing. All of these techniques are used to draw you into the film; the
uses of these together make a fantastic story about love.
Luhrman uses mise en scene to a great effect. A perfect example of this is in the first scene where we
are introduced into Christian s attic. We are shown Cristian being surrounded by papers, bottles,
clothes, dust and dirt, with his face down in his arms. The lighting on him is a saturated blue light and
the detail of the typewriter, his dirty appearance, even more empty ... Show more content on

This film was a lot to take in due to is very unconventional use of mise en scene, cinematography, and
most of all editing. I can honestly say that if I had not taken this film appreciation course, sadly I
would not have made it through the first 10 minutes of pure madness. Had I not been able to better
recognize the meaning or reasoning behind the editing style and use of artwork I would have been
uninterested. Now, with all of that being said the movie over all is a fantastic piece of artwork. From
the beginning scenes with the perfect use of illuminated blue lighting, to the use of cinematography to
really bring us into the character s perspective, to the creative use of hyper kinetic style editing to give
the feeling of freedom. It all comes together to really bring the audience a true feel of what the 1899

Prescription Drug Abuse Among College Students
Prescription drugs are being used for nonmedical purposes and it is becoming so common that it has
been deemed an epidemic. Literature suggest that prescription drug abuse among college students is
high. This could be due to the stressful environments college students are placed in. Prescription drugs
will be discussed broadly but in some instances, limited to opioids. Many people are prescribed
medication on a daily basis and not everyone uses them as they are intended. What happens to the
leftover medication? Do people share their medication with other people? Why do people use
prescription medication for nonmedical purposes? What is being done to fight the epidemic? What
treatment(s) is/are available? These questions and the answers will be discussed later on.
There are many possible reasons why a person may use prescription drugs non medically. According
to a study conducted by Rozenbroek and Rothstein (2011) most non medical users use socially with
friends rather than alone. To come to this conclusion, they sent out a questionnaire that contained
information regarding three categories: opioids, CNS depressants, and stimulants. The questionnaire
included demographic information, relevant information (how they obtained the drug), and to make it
less of a hassle, they gave the questionnaire during regular class times to unsuspecting students. They
discovered from 428 completed questionnaires that opioids and CNS depressants were mainly used

Mérode Altarpiece (Triptych of the Annunciation) by Robert...
Art is everywhere; from architecture to sculptures, paintings, pictures and even flower gardens. There
are many styles and techniques used by artists to capture the eye of a viewer and draw them into the
artwork. One such art piece that has this effect is: Mérode Altarpiece (Triptych of the Annunciation)
by Robert Campin (Master of Flémalle), circa 1425 1430s. This beautiful triptych was painted in oil
on oak panels, with the center panel measuring 25 1/4 x

The small Christ figure is carrying a cross, a possible reference to the knowledge of what he is being
sent to do for the people. The way Mary is seated shows her acquiescence towards Gods resolve; she
is so devoted that she would do anything God requested or required of her. On the right flank of the
triptych sits Joseph in his workshop working on a carpentry project. The hues in this scene are more
neutral throughout with some darker accents in Josephs robes and headpiece. Behind Joseph a Flemish
city scene is visible through the open window, baring semblance to the fact that the people are going
about their normal daily activities, unaware of the miraculous event taking place just yards away.
Inside the shop, Joseph is drilling holes in a piece of wood that will be used in the wine making
process; this subtle reference to wine refers to the blood of Christ. There are several traps set in
various areas of the shop, these traps reference God s plan to trap Satan by sending Jesus to live
among the people. On the left flank of the triptych the donors, a husband and wife, kneel in the garden
outside the door of Mary and Josephs house. The hues in this panel are not as dark, still quite a bit of
neutral shades, however, the husband is draped in black attire while his wife who is positioned behind

The Deeds Of The Divine Augustus

Augustus portrays himself. Augustus views himself almost as the greatest among men. After the Julius

the son of the divine . Almost like he was trying to use godliness of the former emperor to ensure to be
viewed more highly or even be considered a deity himself. Upon Augustus s death, Augustus left

What Role Did Babe Ruth Play In The 1920s
Never allow the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game! This quote was famously said by
one of the greatest baseball players ever Babe Ruth. Babe Ruth played in the 1920s era. This was a
time of low unemployment, so many citizens spent their salaries on many activities: going to the
movies, listening to jazz music, and watching sporting events. The 1920s became a time for people to
enjoy their time and live life with laissez faire, or a policy or attitude of letting things take their own
course. The 1920s also became a time for sports to take full effect. Athletes, such as Babe Ruth, Benny

Many people consider Babe as the greatest to play the game. The records Babe Ruth set is a testament
to how amazing of a player he really was. While playing for the Red Sox in 1919, Babe set the single

Ruth close to doubled his single season home run record to 54(biography). Following the 54 home run
season Ruth set the outstanding record of 59 home runs(biography). It only took Ruth 10 seasons to
become one of the greatest home run hitters anyone has ever seen. Ruth s success on the baseball
diamond made him a household name; so much so, that the new Yankee Stadium (built in 1923) was
dubbed the house that Ruth built (biography). When everyone thought that Babe was incredible at
setting the total home runs to 59, Ruth outdid himself again to set godly mark of 60 homeruns in one
season during the 1927 season(biography). Unsurprisingly, this record stood for an amazing 34 years.
No one had ever seen a player as great as what Babe Ruth was during the 1920s. During the 1920s,
Ruth broke practically all of the slugging records. These include most years leading a league in home

Anorectoplasty Essay
Definitive management of male rectourethral fistula
Historically, there have been many surgical techniques to repair anorectal malformations. These
include endorectal dissection, anterior perineal approaches, and many different types of anoplasties
However, most pediatric surgeons now use the posterior sagittal approach to repair these
malformations with or without laparotomy or laparoscopy ( Levitt and Pena, 2006). Posterior sagittal
anorectoplasty (PSARP) as described by pena and levitt ( Levitt and Pena, 2014):
A Foley catheter is inserted and the patient is placed in prone position with the pelvis elevated. The

The Civil War, Lincoln said, was the ultimate test of the preservation of the Union created in 1776,
and the dead at Gettysburg fought to uphold this cause. Lincoln evoked the Declaration of
Independence, saying it was up to the living to ensure that the government of the people, by the
people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth, and this Union was dedicated to the proposition
that all men are created equal. A common interpretation was that the President was expanding the
cause of the Civil War from simply reunifying the Union to also fighting for equality and abolishing
slavery.
Abraham Lincoln s Assassination
Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on April 14, 1865, by well known actor and Confederate
sympathizer John Wilkes Booth at Ford s Theater in Washington, D.C. He was taken from the theater

Gender, Gender Identity And Sexual Orientation Essay
Many parents voice a fear about their child learning about gender, gender identity, and sexual
orientation. They think that hearing, seeing, or learning these things will influence their child.
According to research, however, no matter how often children are exposed to these topics they still
will make their own decisions later on in life on the matter. Often parents are upset when they hear
their children are learning about these terms because they do not know the dictionaries definitions for
these words are. According to webster; gender is the state of being male or female, the word typically
used to reference social and cultural differences rather than biological ones. Gender identity is a
person s perception of having a particular gender that may not correspond with the sex they were
given at birth. Sexual orientation is a person s sexual identity in relation to the gender to which they
are attracted. Many times a person s sexual orientation can be labeled as heterosexual, homosexual, or

how to best teach diversity about gender in a classroom background information, teaching strategies,

Arguments Against Faux Fur
An analysis of the strengths and weaknesses found in the argument
Premise 1
Premise 1 argues that the animal fur industry should be stopped since faux fur is a better alternative to
animal fur. It claims that faux fur delivers the same benefits (it has an indistinguishable appearance
and provides greater warmth) with less environmental cost. The suppressed assumption here is that
environmental damage should be prevented where possible: this is a non controversial normative
claim that does not require further support, and is, therefore, acceptable.
The first sub premise, which asserts that faux fur can replace animal fur in terms of human use is non
controversial and may be easily accepted. The second sub premise, a causal argument that faux ...

Premise 1 is unacceptable because the author fails to adequately compare the environmental impact of
the control (animal fur) and test (faux fur) groups, and is therefore unsuccessful in arguing that faux
fur is a superior alternative. Consequently, premise 1 holds a very weak inference as to why the animal
fur industry should be stopped. Premises 2 and 3 are unacceptable since they are linked, and premise 2
lacks sufficient analysis of the test and control groups. Since the author does not compare the levels of
suffering between the test (fur industry animals) and control (non fur industry animals) groups, we are
unable to conclude that suffering would be reduced or prevented by ending the animal fur industry.
Hence, premises 2 and 3 do not support the argument that the animal fur industry should be stopped to
prevent suffering. Lastly, Premise 4 is unacceptable because it commits fallacies of relevance and
vacuity: it does not argue why the industry should be stopped, but instead proposes a method of
stopping the industry. In these ways, the argument has a very weak rational core. The author has
attempted to conceal these logical flaws with rhetorical devices including emotionally charged
language and loaded descriptions. Ultimately, however, they have committed multiple fallacies and
further undermined their claims. For these reasons, the argument should be

Sputnik And The Space Race
On October 4, 1957, the Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union commenced in a
sudden, explosive fashion. The Soviet Union launched Sputnik , humanity s very first artificial
satellite, into outer space. Sputnik, meaning fellow traveler in Russian, is now synonymous with the
Cold War and the Space Race. Sputnik s purpose was twofold the first reason was purely to beat the
U.S. to outer space. However, Sputnik had scientific reasons to be in space as well. The Soviet Union
determined five objectives for Sputnik to accomplish during her time in space: 1. Test the method of
placing an artificial satellite into Earth s orbit, 2. Provide information on the density of the atmosphere
by calculating its lifetime in orbit, 3. Test radio and optical methods of orbital tracking, 4. Determine
the effects of radio wave propagation through the atmosphere, and 5. Check principles of
pressurization used on satellites. When the Soviet Union beat the United States by launching
something into space first, the U.S. reaction was palpable. Public fear and anxiety spread throughout
the nation, along with a sense of nationalism and pride. The United States must answer with a launch,
or face humiliation and defeat.

In Haiti education is much harder to acquire. Most schools in Haiti are private schools with tuition

,even if they did make it as most didn t , the same: In the early dawn light, I tried to distinguish
between the living and those who were no more. But there was barely a difference (Wiesel 98). The
conditions and bad treatment caused Wiesel and many others to forget themselves and only remember
their instincts: One day when we had come to a stop, a worker took a piece of bread out of his bag and
threw it into a wagon. There was a stampede. Dozens of starving men fought desperately over a few
crumbs. The worker watched the spectacle with great interest (Wiesel 100). ... Show more content on

Nothing is worse than being treated like a farm animal. Stripped of all of your rights as a person. Even
the right to live: I no longer felt anything except the lashes of the whip... Only the first really hurt
(Wiesel 57). The author wrote this novel to make sure people knew the true story of how the Jews had
their right to live stripped away from them: The idea of dying, ceasing to be, began to fascinate me. To
no longer exist. To no longer feel the excruciating pain of my foot. To no longer feel anything, neither
fatigue nor cold, nothing. To break rank, to let myself slide to the side of the road... (Wiesel

Statement Of Openminding
My background and the environment in which I was raised has shaped me into an openminded person.
I was born in Turkey and moved to America when I was four years old. I grew up being influenced by
my father s British culture and my mother s Turkish one, but I was also exposed to many different
cultures at my school. I go to an International School in Houston and I have constantly been
surrounded by members of different countries and exposed to the celebration of multiple cultures in
performances and festivals throughout the school year. The city of Houston is a meltion pot of many
different types of people from all over the world, and the celebration of these cultures has helped me
realized that everyone, no matter their race, creed, and gender deserve equal rights and opportunities.
As a multicultural individual, I grew up learning to accept and value the mix of different cultures and
backgrounds in my community. Exposure to different cultural perspectives has shaped my own. This
intercultural understanding has shaped me into the openminded person I am today. I have an open
outlook on the world that is not restricted by the confines of race or gender. I knew now that I was not

Boxing
Roberto Hands of Stone Duran once said: Getting hit motivates me. It makes me punish the guy more.
A fighter takes a punch, hits back with three punches. Duran represents one of the hardest punchers in
boxing history, and the best middleweight that has ever fought. He is one of the most experienced and
successful boxers inside and outside of the ring. Boxing is a sport that provides excellent physical
condition, because its high intensity exercises all muscles at the same time. It increases muscular tone,
cardiovascular capacity and overall body strength.
One of the principal benefits of boxing is the capacity to increase muscular tone. Boxing doesn t
create bulky muscles, instead it provides well toned muscles due to the constant movement. By
punching and moving around, muscles are exercised at all times, which is very different from other
sports where only one muscle is exercised at a time. Exercising all muscles at once does not make
them bigger, it makes them healthy and able to develop properly. Bones also play an important role in
having well toned muscles. By boxing, bones gain power and size; therefore, the proportions of
muscles are affected in a positive way. When bones get stronger, muscles ... Show more content on

By punching and moving the hips, arms and legs constantly gain power and endurance. The oblique,
shoulders, back, and many more muscles are contracted. For example, throwing a punch makes
deltoids work in synergy with the pectorals, contracting the trapezius for another punch. This example
clearly demonstrates how boxing improves strength in a very good way and how it involves a vast
quantity of muscles. One of boxing´s best attributes is giving the ability to defend yourself. It properly
teaches how to block a punch, dodge a strike, and hit properly. Because of this, you will be able to
defend yourself in any situation (even without hitting your opponent) and leave with no harm done to
your physical

The Safety Of The Space Race
On August 2, 1955, the Space Race, the race for spaceflight supremacy, began, with two countries
going head to head, United States of America and the Soviet Union. The front row seat to the most
thrilling show on Earth. From the day the Space Race commenced, to present day, safety has always
been a fragile subject. Believe it or not, the safety of humans was not always the objective. These next
events altered the concept of safety within the Space Shuttle era.
On January 28, 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger was rolled out to Kennedy Space Center s Pad
39A, for what would end up being its final launch. At T minus 5 seconds, the solid rocket boosters
ignited, propelling the nearly 134 ton vertical flight vehicle into geocentric orbit. However, at T plus
73 seconds, Challenger experienced catastrophic structural failure which resulted in the loss of both
the Shuttle and the seven crew members onboard. Among those seven crew members was Christa
McAuliffe, an American teacher from Concord, New Hampshire. McAuliffe was slated to be the first
teacher in space, as well as the first teacher to teach not one, but two lessons from space.
Unfortunately, had NASA not ignored the many warnings from their contractor s flight engineers
declaring the solid rocket boosters unfit to fly in such a cold temperature, the astronauts aboard the
Challenger would still be with us today. Furthermore, if Challenger, or any Shuttle for that matter, had
been built with an emergency evacuation

Theme Of A Mother In A Refugee Camp By Chinua Achebe
In the poem, A Mother in A Refugee Camp Chinua Achebe conveys the close relationship between a
mother and a son. Achebe starts with the imagery of the famous painting of Madonna and Child by
Duccio di Buoninsegna. The painting symbolizes Madonna as Mary, who is seen as the mother of
Jesus here because in the bible her character is seen to be lovely and every parent child relationship is
just like that of Mary and Jesus, tender and caring. This is emphasized in the second line of this
stanza, Her tenderness for ... have to forget , the two contrasting words tenderness showing how she
cares for her son; forgets hints the mother should come back to reality as her son is eventually going to
die. This is followed by ellipses to give ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poet talks about how he taught me /that telling the truth/did not always mean a beating , this may
suggest that her father was a genuine man who tried to help her become the nice person he wants her
to be by teaching her the morals. The verb grieved in this stanza could imply how she had
disappointed him by revealing many of her truths . This sudden contrast in the same stanza tells us
how she remembers his teachings more when she thinks about all the mistakes she has done
throughout her life and how she might have hurt his feelings. It could also link to death and how she
feels more upset about not spending the most time with him, before her father passed away. The poet
also mentions the memories she had of him dancing/in a yoga meditation... informing the reader how
she genuinely misses her father s presence a lot through the use of simple language in the stanza. The
closeness between the poet and the father is constantly reminded by the past fun memories the poet
talks about and describes her father as a simple, good human who taught her to always be generous :
happy to feed/whoever strays my way just like

The Origin Of Nonverbal Communication
Whether you realize it or not, almost all of what you say doesn t come out of your mouth. In 1967, the
Journal of Consulting Psychology published a study conducted by two researchers, UCLA professor
Albert Mehrabian and Susan R. Ferris, that concluded that 93% of communication is considered
nonverbal. Nonverbal communication can be anything from tone of voice, body language, and
anything that doesn t come out of your mouth basically. Nonverbal communication varies across
cultures and sexes and is an essential part of our world. Knowing the facts about how we
communicate and the way we react to communication is important to increase trust, clarity, and add
interest to your presentation and appearance. Learning how to become sensitive to body language and
nonverbal cues will help you become better at portraying your intention.
Origins
The origin of nonverbal communication in our world is not quite easy to point out. On
http://www.study body language.com they point out two main reasons as to why this is. One is the
belief that body language evolved over time to help fill human social needs such as finding food,
needing shelter, or gathering together. Another is that there are so many different categories of
nonverbal communication. They can be divided up like traits that are universal and we are born with
or traits that we learn to use through our age and knowledge. We do have roots of the types of
communication we use such as our culture, personal habits, education and

I had figured that it had not moved or deleted itself so I went back online to redownload the file. Once
online and on the website in which the correct file was located, I had begun to search for the file
again. After searching for nearly 30 seconds, the browser had suddenly closed and left me staring
blankly at the desktop. About 5 seconds had passed and it mysteriously opened back up but this time
on an unfamiliar webpage; 30 seconds passing again until I was back staring at the desktop for another
5 seconds. This process went on for around a minute before I had decided to restart the computer.
Once the computer had restarted and everything was running as normal again, it was time to relaunch
the browser and download the proper file. The browser launched with no problem at all and I was able
to successfully navigate to the correct website once again and was able to begin searching. Once
again, after so long of skimming the page for the file, the browser shut down without a notice and
restarted, opening to the same unknown website as before. The next day my parents needed to use the
computer and discovered the problem. Immediately they had known it was my fault and put me in
charge of removing the virus. Without any clue as to how to remove malware from a computer, my
first thought was to go to YouTube and search for a generic video of how to clean a computer of
viruses. Cluelessly I followed the instructions of the video and opened critical file systems

A Life Worth Living In Jojo Moyes s After You
I loved a man who had opened up a world to me but hadn t loved me enough to stay in it. is a very
popular quote from the breathing novel After You by Jojo Moyes. After You is the sequal to Me Before
You which leaves Louisa an entirely different character. When she took the job as Will s caregiver, she
never thought his choice to medically kill himself would leave her the way it did. After You goes
throught the motions of the people left to mourn Will s death, specifically Louisa. The theme of this
book can easily be narrowed down to living, Lou is left to figure out how to put together a life worth
living. Since she has been without Will, her life hasn t been much of anything, this story shows her
journey back to living. The theme of living ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was taking care of Lily and even developed a love for her that made her almost feel like a mother.
They had an incredible relationship, they were best friends, sisters, mothers and daughters because
yes, even sometimes Lily was the one teaching and taking care of Lou. Together they learned to live
by escaping the things that defined them as individuals. Neither of them wanted to let go of this so
they worked everyday to respect each other and grow stronger. Lily started working, Lou started
dating to some extent and they found happiness in their little flat which began to feel more like home.
At Louisa s highest point of understand she wrote, You learn to live with it, with them. Because they
do stay with you, even if they re not living, breathing people any more. It s not the same crushing grief
you felt at first, the kind that swamps you, and makes you want to cry in the wrong places, and get
irrationally angry with all the idiots who are still alive when the person you love is dead. It s just
something you learn to accommodate. Like adapting around a hole. I don t know. It s like you
become... a doughnut instead of a bun. Louisa remembered what it was like to love the life she had
been given and share it with Will even though he no longer physically existed in

  • 3. Juquatsu The background. The early 1890s in Japan was a time when the country was experiencing major growth and economic expansion. The political scene was far from stable. The demise of the Tokugawa period and the unsettling establishment of the Meiji Restoration remained fresh in people s memories. The transformation of the former Samurai class into paragons of civic society was already well established and the abolition of the four feudal classes emancipated and liberated the nation. The former Samurai, previously repelled by the thought of handling money or finances (the domain of the vulgar merchant class) now slid comfortably in to key financial and banking positions, comforted by the thought that they would be serving the Emperor and the ... It was during this time as an undergraduate that he chose to take advantage of furthering his skills in Jujutsu by studying at a number of the many Jujutsu schools within the city. He then ceased visiting these Dojos and continued to train on his own in his original discipline, namely, Shindo Yoshin Ryu Jujutsu. There has been much speculation as to which schools he visited during his four itinerant years. He is said to have studied Tenshinshinyo Ryu Jujutsu as well as Kito Ryu Jujutsu [6] and also, according to historian Dr Ryozo Fujiwara, it is possible that Ohtsuka Sensei trained with Butokukai Instructor Motoo Kanaya in Yoshin Koryu Jujutsu between the years 1919 to 1921, but this has yet to be confirmed ... It was determined that we could use the internet and local business leaders to assist us in gaining the necessary information. Emily Dickinson s Feelings About Death Revealed in Her Poem, Because I could not stop for Death Emily Dickinson grew up in New England in the late 1800s. The nineteenth century was a difficult time period for the people of America. There was an abundance of war, epidemic, and death. Because her house was located beside a graveyard, Dickinson saw many of the elaborate funeral processions as they passed (Murray). Because of these experiences, death became very real to her, and it made a large impression on her life. Conrad Aikin, one of the many critics of Dickinson s work, believes that: Death and the problem of life after death obsessed her (15). She had a very peculiar idea about eternity that was unlike any of the traditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Personification is a type of figurative language one uses to give abstract ideas human like characteristics. Dickinson uses personification in this poem because it allows the reader to understand death in a more intimate way. Death became so real to her and to her contemporaries because of the time in which she lived. Through her life experiences, the poet became intimate with death. Because of all the disease and epidemics in her lifetime, many of her loved ones passed away. These deaths were very intense breaks in her life (Murray). Some critics suggest that the death of her cousin was the inspiration for this poem (Semansky). In any event, death had a large impact on Dickinson s life. This impact explains why she writes so descriptively about it. In this poem, death is personified as a gentleman caller taking the lady out for a carriage ride. This personification gives the reader a better image of the writer s idea of the coming of death. Dickinson gives Death many characteristics that help to shape our image of him. The line He kindly stopped for me in the first stanza, immediately gives a male gender (2). This male image gives the reader the traditional idea of the gentleman caller. This line also reveals a kind quality of death. The kind quality is important throughout this poem because it allows the speaker to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Compare And Contrast Tocqueville And Putnam Tocqueville and Putnam The works of Alexis de Tocqueville have been tested by time, and as we have begun the 21st century, a variety of his ideas have fallen by the wayside as the evolution of American life has left them irrelevant; however, many observations laid out in Democracy in America , have proven to hold true to this day. Of these theories authored by Tocqueville, the common theme of individualism allows for the examination of ideas that have retained their relevance, as well as ideas that now hold only historical purposes. Tocqueville s idea that individualism can be combatted by the doctrine of self interest rightly understood is relevant today and is supported by Robert Putnam s discussion on social capital and individual health; while his idea that the newspaper is an effective tool to combat individualism is no longer relevant in today s society, as discussed in Putnam s piece on technology and mass media. Putnam summarizes the transition of the news as a tool to fight individualism, into an outlet of individualism nicely. • 10. The Existence of Absence in Keats On Seeing the Elgin... In his sonnet On Seeing the Elgin Marbles for the First Time, John Keats presents a series of various forms of conflict and tension. Most prominent is the poet s sense of his own fleeting existence juxtaposed with the eternity of the Greek marble sculptures and, perhaps, with the timelessness of art in general. However, there is another, more subtle tension between what is in existence, and what is not, an absence which paradoxically manifests as a form of existence in itself. The presence of this conflict within the sonnet shows Keats s self coined Negative Capability, the ability to be in uncertainties, mysteries, doubts, without any irritable reaching after fact and reason (Keats 863). Furthermore, the Negative Capability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The image plays heavily both on what was, the eagle soaring through the skies, and what remains, a gaping absence: an eagle less sky and a lacking eagle. Hence, a fundamental element of the image is the existence of an absence. Two lines later, the speaker describes the cloudy winds (7) which he does not have. The unusual description of the winds as cloudy implies a fraught and stormy sky, and stimulates both visual and tactile senses; yet, these same cloudy winds are absent to the speaker. Thus, here too is an instance of the existence of absence; the vivid and sensuous imagery creates something substantial and tangible, and, as such, the negation of the image s existence, becomes all the more palpable; its absence becomes distinct and almost like an entity in its own right. The oxymoron dim conceived glories (9) produces a similar tension. On a superficial level, the oxymoron is interesting in that it combines dim, connoting darkness, with glories, which often connotes radiance or light. Furthermore, there is a tension between the dim and conceived, the latter implying creation and thus existence, while the first paradoxically suggests something barely or non existent. Implying the creation of that which does not exist embodies the tension between existence and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Concept Of Intertextuality Introduction Research Background Derived from the Latin intertexto, intertextuality is the complex relationship between texts, which accounts for a separate field or location in which the text can act. The term intertextuality was acknowledged as Julia Kristeva s coinage in the late 1960s in the context of structuralist and post structuralist thoughts going at it hammer and tongs. Translation Studies, an interdisciplinary field, centers on creating a comprehensive solution for complex problems encountered in translating process. From the moment that the theory of intertextuality was integrated into the field of Translation Studies in the late 1970s, the concept of translation activity has undergone a radical evolution. By 1980, a WHO led vaccination campaign had eradicated the disease from the face of the planet. As immunologists realized the value of this discovery, this catalyzed research for vaccines for numerous other diseases, until scientists had not only started discovering vaccines for previously elusive viruses such as HIV, but also for diseases such as cancer, that weren t necessarily infectious. However, conventional vaccines that used live attenuated or dead pathogens were limited in safety and ability to provide an adequate cytotoxic T Cell response. This antigen presentation is essential in order to stimulate a T response. While targeting cancer tumors, the DNA vaccine is made to code for either full sequences or fragments of tumor antigens and delivered directly to the tumor. It is easier for more mobile tumors such as leukemia to be targeted than the less accessible, solid ones (Rice et al. 2008). DNA vaccine is based on the principle that T Helper cells need to be recruited in order to be able to generate a cytotoxic T cell response. However, in cancer treatment, being able to stimulate these TH cells is challenging, since autologous tumor antigens (Rice et al. 2008) are often not immunogenic enough. To overcome this problem, the same plasmid is used as a vector for genes encoding non self antigens as fusion partners , such as tetanus toxins, green fluorescent protein and immune targeting molecules (Rice et al. 2008) that amplify the immune response. After the APCs have been loaded with the vaccine generated antigen, they travel to the secondary lymphoid organs, where they activate naïve T cells through a combination of MHC, co stimulatory molecules and TCR. Once CD4+ TH cells are activated, they secrete cytokines during cell to cell interaction with B cells and bind to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is shown through speech and actions from the age range of children to elders. When in effect, racism can become violent and flip lives upside down. Fast forward past all the civil rights movements and efforts to halt racism, and today s society still has an abundance of racism. Eradicating racism all together has been the goal since the beginning of time, but I believe to make people aware of actual damage it causes is the best way to advocate how wrong this discrimination is. One of the most impactful program I have seen to spread awareness of racism is the television hit series titled Switched at Birth . During the specific episode, a select group of white students placed cotton balls throughout the lawn of the Black Student Union. Since these said students were white and rich, they got away with it. This lack of punishment from authority for such a horrendous act created an uprising within the Union. Not only did they peacefully protest, but one member went on a hunger strike to gain attention. The school refused to partake in the expulsion of the students and requests of equality from the union, so the one member continued her hunger strike. Soon after this refusal of acknowledgment, the said member was sent to the hospital as she had passed out and almost lost her life. Our goal is to study more specifically the Neoclassical era, because this period in France gave a newly and creative sense of style in both the arts and architecture that was very similar to those in ancient Rome and Greece (Craske, 1997). During this conflict it caused people to recognize social status and freedom of dress. This revolt caused civilians mainly middle class to rebel for equality and freedom among their society (Mezler, 1998). Furthermore, our group will analyze this decline of the pompous nobility as France is experiencing the onset of a revolution. Following this shift is the ultimate demise of formal aristocracy, the once cynosure of all eyes has met their fate at the guillotine. A guillotine, meant to symbolize the Reign of Terror nearing the end of the eighteenth century would perhaps be a fitting and symbolic final piece to the exhibition. The Endless Possibilities of 3D Printing Essay Why go to stores and spend lots of money buying toys, jewelry, cups and many other plastic utilities when you can only press one button and print them out for yourself. This futuristic idea is not only innovating the scientific and technological world, but it is also innovating modern day households. The possibilities of 3D printing are extremely captivating, making this one of the most exciting innovations in recent times. 3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, makes three dimensional solid objects from a digital model or command. To picture how this process works, 3D printers use an additive process, where adding layers of a successive material creates an object. Now the biggest difference between traditional manufacturing and 3D printing will be the emergence of mass customization. Goods will be, infinitely more customized, because altering them won t require retooling, only tweaking the instructions in the software. Creativity in meeting individuals needs will come to the fore, just as quality control did in the age of rolling out sameness (D Aveni). When you have a product that is printed out individually from software with your own customization, then there would be no reason in buying a product that will look like something another person can own because of its ordinary accessibility. Creating physical 3D models in a fast, easy and affordable way has great potential, especially when you can do it in the comfort of your home. As 3D printers are becoming live in the market, they demonstrate great potential by fostering economic growth. All of these techniques are used to draw you into the film; the uses of these together make a fantastic story about love. Luhrman uses mise en scene to a great effect. Premises 2 and 3 are unacceptable since they are linked, and premise 2 lacks sufficient analysis of the test and control groups. Since the author does not compare the levels of suffering between the test (fur industry animals) and control (non fur industry animals) groups, we are unable to conclude that suffering would be reduced or prevented by ending the animal fur industry. Hence, premises 2 and 3 do not support the argument that the animal fur industry should be stopped to prevent suffering. Lastly, Premise 4 is unacceptable because it commits fallacies of relevance and vacuity: it does not argue why the industry should be stopped, but instead proposes a method of stopping the industry. • 39. Sputnik And The Space Race On October 4, 1957, the Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union commenced in a sudden, explosive fashion. The Soviet Union launched Sputnik , humanity s very first artificial satellite, into outer space. Sputnik, meaning fellow traveler in Russian, is now synonymous with the Cold War and the Space Race. Sputnik s purpose was twofold the first reason was purely to beat the U.S. to outer space. However, Sputnik had scientific reasons to be in space as well. The Soviet Union determined five objectives for Sputnik to accomplish during her time in space: 1. Test the method of placing an artificial satellite into Earth s orbit, 2. Provide information on the density of the atmosphere by calculating its lifetime in orbit, 3. Test radio and optical methods of orbital tracking, 4. Determine the effects of radio wave propagation through the atmosphere, and 5. Check principles of pressurization used on satellites. When the Soviet Union beat the United States by launching something into space first, the U.S. reaction was palpable. The story of dehumanization of an entire group of people through the eyes of a young boy,Elie Wiesel. In Night Wiesel portrays the dehumanization of the jewish people as unnatural and undeserved. The difficulties Wiesel went through are all collected in one small book The Jews all started the same before they began their journey through the camps. They were normal; they had their own communities, religion, and jobs. None of them came out of the camps ,even if they did make it as most didn t , the same: In the early dawn light, I tried to distinguish between the living and those who were no more. But there was barely a difference (Wiesel 98). The conditions and bad treatment caused Wiesel and many others to forget themselves and only remember their instincts: One day when we had come to a stop, a worker took a piece of bread out of his bag and threw it into a wagon. There was a stampede. Dozens of starving men fought desperately over a few crumbs. The worker watched the spectacle with great interest (Wiesel 100). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Duran represents one of the hardest punchers in boxing history, and the best middleweight that has ever fought. He is one of the most experienced and successful boxers inside and outside of the ring. Boxing is a sport that provides excellent physical condition, because its high intensity exercises all muscles at the same time. It increases muscular tone, cardiovascular capacity and overall body strength. One of the principal benefits of boxing is the capacity to increase muscular tone. The front row seat to the most thrilling show on Earth. From the day the Space Race commenced, to present day, safety has always been a fragile subject. Believe it or not, the safety of humans was not always the objective. These next events altered the concept of safety within the Space Shuttle era. On January 28, 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger was rolled out to Kennedy Space Center s Pad 39A, for what would end up being its final launch. At T minus 5 seconds, the solid rocket boosters ignited, propelling the nearly 134 ton vertical flight vehicle into geocentric orbit. However, at T plus 73 seconds, Challenger experienced catastrophic structural failure which resulted in the loss of both the Shuttle and the seven crew members onboard. Among those seven crew members was Christa McAuliffe, an American teacher from Concord, New Hampshire. McAuliffe was slated to be the first teacher in space, as well as the first teacher to teach not one, but two lessons from space. Unfortunately, had NASA not ignored the many warnings from their contractor s flight engineers declaring the solid rocket boosters unfit to fly in such a cold temperature, the astronauts aboard the Challenger would still be with us today. Origins The origin of nonverbal communication in our world is not quite easy to point out. On http://www.study body language.com they point out two main reasons as to why this is. One is the belief that body language evolved over time to help fill human social needs such as finding food, needing shelter, or gathering together. Another is that there are so many different categories of nonverbal communication. They can be divided up like traits that are universal and we are born with or traits that we learn to use through our age and knowledge.
