Using Alternative Energy Sources For The Uk Market Essay
1 Introduction All the vehicle OEM s are making a major effort to improve fuel consumption and
reduce tailpipe CO2 emissions. One of the most common application for reducing tailpipe CO2 is
using alternative energy sources than gasoline and diesel [1]. In accordance, this paper aims to present
an outline design for a PHEV version of the Ford Focus family hatchback for the UK Market. 1.1
Manufacturer s Corporate Position As quoted in official company page, Ford s blueprint for
sustainability goes beyond improved fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions to define
sustainability as a business model that creates value by preserving and enhancing environmental,
social and financial capital [2]. This approach confirms an enthusiasm that will eventually lead to
hybrid/electric cars for Ford. Such improvement will mean a lot for UK market, as Ford is a very
strong brand in UK, with Ford Fiesta being the top selling car, while Ford s C segment representative
Focus is in 3rd rank among all competitor models [3]. Additionally, penetrating in electric/hybrid
market holds huge potential since 81% of UK population lives in urban areas [4] which is the already
focus market for E.V. electric hybrid car manufacturers. 1.2 Market Status, Market Expectations and
Government Support EV range is the top concern for potential consumers [5], [6] worldwide.
Therefore, the range is the most critical item within the technical requirements of an electric / hybrid
car. In Great Britain, average

Evaluation Of The And Emotional Development
Throughout the assessments, I found Julia to be average or superior to developmental milestones for
children her age. To assure all areas were observed, I allowed a week to monitor the assessment data
for two checklists. I observed social and emotional development over a three day span to allow for
situational stimuli and behavior adjustments from a quick trip to visit her paternal grandparents.
Finally, to pull all my information together, I completed a time sampling assessment to observe
actions during free play. This time sampling focused on general intellectual behaviors which may
indicate a level of giftedness in comparison with other children her age. With all the observations
completed, I have analyzed each of the assessment work sheets. Observation of Julia s gross motor
skills in relationship to abilities of children 3 5 years was completed using a checklist. The checklist
indicated whether or not a specific skill was observed during the week of observation. This check list
indicates Julia is on target developmentally. Because she is athletic and likes to play physically, her
gross motor skills are strong. Using the checklist to determine areas in which ... additional support and
help (Bentzen, 2009, p. 8) is needed, attention should focus on balance and strength. Using balance
skills would produce the greatest qualifiers in her development. To do this, Julia may be taught to

Physics of Ice Skating
Many everyday activities, and sports involve physics. During the Olympics, you saw the graceful
performance done by the figure skaters. Figure skating involves a lot of physics. These principles
include friction, momentum, and Newton s Third Law. These core principles plays a big impact on the
performance of figure skaters. Before understanding the physics of the ice skater s motion, the first
thing to comprehend is the skates itself.
The major parts of figure skates are the boot itself, and the blade. A figure skater performs a spin by
rotating the blade backwards as the skater spins on a fixed point. This fixed point, is also known as the
balls of their feet. The skater also has the toe pick, a rigid part of the blade located at the front of the
blade, touching the ice. This allows the skater to put a forward pressure down without sliding forward
and falling backwards. It also helps keep the skater s balance. When the skater performs a jump, he or
she pushes off the toe pick, jumps, lands on the toe pick, and then rocks down to the blade. This also
adds stability. The design of the blade allows the skater to rock down to the blade from the toe pick
due to the curvature of the blade. This is called the rocker. The skater imparts the momentum from its
opposite leg, back into his lower foot and then continues to move. This leads to the movement of the
figure skater and the laws and principles of physics used to perform them.
Figure skating involves ice, which means there

Software Defined Networking: Google s B4 SDN
Dhruv Bhatia
Illinois Tech dbhatia4@hawk.iit.edu ABSTRACT
Software Defined Networking or SDN is an emerging paradigm in the computer networking world
that attempts to build a computer network by essentially separating it into two systems, the control
plane and the data plane. The separation effectively makes it possible to write a single high level
program to control the behavior of an entire network. This allows a network operator to potentially
write programs to more easily secure, manage or troubleshoot the networks. SDN has gained
tremendous momentum and six of the world s largest networks are supporting it, Google s B4 network
being one of them. In this paper, I highlight the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These traffic patterns would cause very high demands for a particular resources that they could not
meet with the existing network infrastructure. So they had two choices, either scale the network
infrastructure to meet the peaks, which is very expensive and leading to networks being under utilized,
or you build your network in such a way that it can reconfigure itself automatically to cope with those
peaks and channel the resources to meet the appropriate demand. This is what SDN does.
There are only a few significant implementations of Software Defined Networking that exists today.
One of those few is Google s B4 SDN. This research further describes the framework that Google has
developed for their migration methods personified by a group of target networks which includes the
traditional network migration requirements, target network core requirement, phased migration
requirement and finally validation requirements to ensure a complete and successful network
migration to SDN.
2. Client Server Connection in SDN
A software defined network attempts to build a computer network by separating it into two systems.
The first system is the control plane which provides performance and fault management via NetFlow,
IPFIX, SNMP and other standard protocols. It typically handles configuration management of the
SDN compliant devices and understands the network topology. Loaded with these

How Does Grendel Cause Hrothgar s Downfall
Character development is very important in character driven literature, where stories focus not on
events, but on individual personalities. Character development is a literary device that is used step by
step in literature to highlight and explain the details about a character in a story. And the stories that
move us most, the ones that stick inside years later, are those inhabited by characters we can connect
with and admire. And no characters resonate more than those who in the course of a story learned how
to either give in or overcome their own flaws and weaknesses to which they are remembered for. The
rocky path of personal growth and development a character undergoes in a story, usually unwillingly,
during which the character wrestles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s clear that Grendel is a major cause of Hrothgar s suffering there are only so many times you can
clean up the blood and rebuild your meadhall before you feel a little weak and broken. But the factors
contributing to Hrothgar s downfall are more complex. Grendel s razor sharp assessments hit the nail
right on the head: He had in his youth the strength of seven men. Not now. He has nothing left but the
power of his mind and no pleasure there: a case of knives. The civilization he meant to build has
transmogrified to a forest thick with traps (121). Not only has he lost his muscle, he s lost his peace of
mind as well. The king has become trapped by everything he worked so hard to achieve. His bling, his
solid rep, his fantastic crib, and even his methods of ruling become a target for younger, ambitious
warlords. His beautiful wife, a peace offering from a young and resentful lesser king, might become a
point of contention in the future. He also knows that his young sons will most likely become prey for
their orphaned cousin Hrothulf, who has lost his natural chance at a throne through

Success For A Business Analyst
Success for a Business Analyst is not that easy to understand. This is because, when a project goes
well, he takes a back seat. But, when there is even the smallest of problems, he is the one in the firing
line. The role of the business analyst is to bring clarity to the project outcomes and getting the
business to own the solutions. The success of a Business Analyst can be measured by answering the
following questions:
a. Does the project deliver the anticipated value and meet the objectives of the business case? Is the
business happy with the value that is delivered?
b. Are the stakeholders aligned around the project concept?
c. Are the stakeholders convinced that the solution being developed is the best possible solution to the
problem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every person s suggestions are taken until management is satisfied that all has been done to rectify the
situation. Everything is on track and the project is coming together. Teams are coordinating with each
other and everything is going according to plan. Just then, at the last stage, it all falls apart. Nothing is
as it seems. The project has failed to accomplish what it set out to do. In this scenario, the business
analyst is left hung out to dry, he is blamed and every finger starts pointing at him.
This is exactly the kind of scenario that a business analyst fears. A business analyst must make sure
that such a situation never arises. Some reasons that cause such failures are:
a. Incomplete requirements: There are situations when, the requirement provided by the business are
not complete and contain holes. Such holes must be filled by questioning and covering all possible
scenarios. A business analyst must make sure that the requirements are clear, scope clearly defined and
all loopholes covered.
b. Lack of user requirement: There are certain scenarios when there is uncertainty in the primary and
secondary users that are involved in the implementation of a requirement. This could be due to poor
communication. A business analyst must make sure that he identifies the correct stakeholders and
engages with them by asking the correct questions.
c. Unrealistic expectations: Not every requirement can be met by the implementation team in terms of
cost, design,

Witch Wolf Research Paper
The witch wolf is a dangerous species and is very unique. It almost looks the same as a normal wolf,
there is only some changes. Some differences from a normal wolf is how it catches prey, how it acts,
where it lives, or what kind of powers it has. The witch wolf has grey fur and amber eyes. But, while
they are on the prowl, all of their hair stands on end and their eyes turn black. A adult witch wolf is
about 5.1 feet to 7.3 feet in length, which is larger than a normal wolf by a couple feet. These special
types of wolves live in packs. Next, they have special powers because they are part witch. They can
lure prey away from safety with spells, and they can go invisible for very short periods of time. When
these packs find prey they strike

The Lesson By Toni Cade Bambara Summary
Toni Cade Bambara has quite a unique style of writing. She does not have the typical proper style as
other authors do, which shows drastically in her short story The Lesson. Bambara was born in New
York and grew up in Harlem which explains her high influence of writing about African American
lifestyles. In The Lesson she writes about a poverty stricken African family who meet a rich woman
that moves into their neighborhood to teach the children. Bambara s unique voice comes to life in this
short story when she uses informal words and phrases, has a relaxed and informal tone, and
incorporates irony into her story. Using all of these components make for an outstanding story and
makes it more realistic and somewhat more relatable. Unlike many authors, Bambara gets into the ...

Alcohol Dependency Summary
The article by Bierut et al. 2010 is a discovery science article, in which there are no hypotheses tested.
This article focuses on alcohol dependence and the genetic influences that may contribute to the rapid
growing dependency. Various case subjects were used to analyze the results from, the Collaborative
Study on the Genetics of Alcoholism (COGA), Family Study of Cocaine Dependence (FSCD) in
addition to the Collaborative Genetic Study of Nicotine Dependence (COGEND). This genome wide
association case study Bierut et. al analyzed various single nucleotide polymorphisms, likewise known

created this beautiful world we are living in today. Also talks about the flood and how noah dealt with
this issue (Gen 6 9 KJV). The second part of the book tells about how God deals with this one man,
Abraham (Gen. 11 25 KJV). In the bible it says that, Genesis is a Greek word meaning orgin, source,

Canaan is in Israel. The books of the bible where Canaan is located is Genesis, Exodus, Numbers,
Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, and Job. I believe Canaan was a pretty popular place in the
before Christ century because it did take its place in so many books of the bible. Especially in Joshua
where the conquest took place in Canaan. Canaan is also known as the promise land. The whole book
of Joshua talks about the conquest of Canaan. Then it also talks about the division of Canaan. Around
1400 BC The Amarna Tablets refer to a period of chaos in Canaan. (Hindson Towns, 2013, pg.49)
Also in the book of Genesis from chapters 12 36 it talks about Joseph s arrival in Egypt which mostly
took place in Canaan. It looks to me that Canaan had a really big part of the Old Testament and
without Canaan where would we be today. I would say nowhere because it was a well known place.

Difference Between Supernatural And Supernatural
In today s production of films, ghosts and paranormal beings are a popular topic. However, even with
today s modern science, there is no legitimate proof of ghosts or spirits. When unexplainable things
happen when no one else is around, the idea of a paranormal being might seem rational. Despite the
speculation of the phenomenon, what exactly is paranormal activity and how do residual areas become
haunted by these spirits? The terms supernatural and paranormal are often confused. Supernatural is
relating more to faith or something we cannot completely comprehend or prove with our sciences.
Where as paranormal is something that cannot be explained with current knowledge and technology,
but most likely has a scientific reason for why it s happening. (Kelly) The difference between both
supernatural and paranormal has to do with being able to explain and understand the paranormal with
whatever available science. Religion might often be pushed into the category for supernatural, as with
the science available, we cannot fully explain ideologies of religion. With the paranormal, mediocre
equipment is used to supposedly make contact with the supernatural. It s believed that the supernatural
will eventually be able to be explained with advanced science. There have been many reports of
residual areas all around Kansas that have been determined as either haunted or rich with paranormal
activity. A famous example is the Topeka State Hospital, which was an asylum that was in

We see irony throughout the story. We see this whenever Della runs to the hair articles shop to see how

My Book Retell I Have Chosen The Hobbit By J.k. R. Tolkien
For My book retell I have chosen The Hobbit, written by J.R.R. Tolkien. It takes place in the fictional
land of Middle Earth, where Elves and dwarves roamed the lands and much darker creatures too, such
as Trolls and Goblins. Our tale starts off like this. In a hole in the ground, there lives a Hobbit .
Hobbits are a simple folk who rarely wander beyond their little town of Baggend. They are no taller
than a human child, but they eat like giants. They love eating so much, they have seven meals a day.
Breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, luncheon, afternoon tea, dinner and supper. They have a mop
of curly hair on there head and big furry feet. That brings us to the main protagonist, Bilbo Baggins.
Throughout the story he is accompanied by Thirteen dwarves, lead by Thorin Oakenshield, and the
wizard, Gandalf the Grey. There are many antagonists in this story including goblins, trolls, elves, and
even humans, but the main conflict is with Smaug, the fire breathing dragon, who has stolen Thorin s
kingdom.
Hobbits in Baggend rarely have anything close to an adventure, since they would have to leave the
comfort of their warm hobbit hole. Bilbo Baggins, never in his wildest dreams, would find himself
hunting dragons next to dwarves and wizards. However, one day, while he was smoking his pipe of
tobacco, he heard a knock on his gate. It was Gandalf. He wondered if Bilbo wanted to take part in an
adventure. Bilbo quickly urged the wizard away saying he wanted nothing to do

The Significance Of The ANZAC Legend
In 1914, long term tensions between European powers sparked a detrimental global conflict known as
World War 1. During this time, Australia held a strong alliance with Britain, which meant that when
Britain declared war, Australia willingly backed its mother country to the last man and the last shilling
(Fisher, 1914). The Gallipoli campaign was one of many battles, yet its effect on Australia was most
significant. The primary goal was to capture the Dardanelles, allowing supplies to be shipped to
Russian troops in Germany (Darlington et al, 2012, p.236). After the initial attempt by naval attack
failed, another attack was planned. In 1915, 78 000 ANZAC soldiers landed on the shores of Gallipoli
possessing unique qualities. Even though this campaign was considered a military failure, an inspiring
legacy was born. Through establishing these undeniable qualities of courage, sacrifice, mateship and
endurance, and comparing them to the legend, it is evident that the ANZAC legend is an accurate
portrayal of the Australian soldiers during World War 1.
This paragraph will help analyse and define the ANZAC legend which will be proven accurate by
historical evidence. The ANZAC legend was created upon the ANZACs first arrival in Gallipoli on 25
April 1915, and firmly re established in the eight months of combat. Strong characteristics of courage,
sacrifice, mateship and endurance were displayed on the battlefield, particularly during times of
hardship. These qualities that are

Carrie White Compare And Contrast
Contrasting the house De Palma made into an uncanny character of its own, this house is nice looking
and spacious; its yard and street are fertile and well maintained; the walls appear freshly painted and
light colored; the furniture is pleasingly organized and equipped for company; and condemnatory male
religious icons don t border the female residents and shimmer down at them as they did in the
previous version. Although some of the events that take place in the household are far from normal,
the film gives no indication that Carrie is not in a healthy environment. By highlighting the normality
of Carrie s living conditions the director removes the focus off of the mother daughter relations.
In the original version, there was a sense of self hatred, but in the latest version, that self hatred is
magnified. Margaret White s self harm in the original version seemed like a ploy to increase the fear
of her daughter. However, in Pierce s version anytime she is on screen in the new edition it raises ...

and thirty minutes into the film Carrie White is already sassing back to her mother. Also, Carrie White
disregards her curfew while she was out looking for dresses in the film leaving her mother worried
sick. Her actions in the film don t seem like an adolescent that is afraid of her mother. Rarely are there
scenes in Pierce s film where Carrie shrinks at the sound of her mother raising her voice and abusing
her. In this film, it seems as if Carrie is controlling her mother. Again, the director wants to remove the

Censorship in Schools Essay
Censorship in Schools
There has recently been a renewed interest and passion in the issue of censorship. In the realm of the
censorship of books in schools alone, several hundred cases have surfaced each year for nearly the
past decade. Controversies over which books to include in the high school English curriculum present
a clash of values between teachers, school systems, and parents over what is appropriate for and
meaningful to students. It is important to strike a balance between English that is meaningful to
students by relating to their lives and representing diversity and satisfying worries about the
appropriateness of what is read. This burden often falls on teachers. The purpose of this research paper

Censorship can take different shapes depending on the public school system: Schools can give
teachers a list of acceptable books to teach, just provide guidelines, or leave it up to the teachers to
judge which books are appropriate (Agee, 1999). Teachers are often very nervous about including
texts that are not traditional or specifically approved by the school, especially because of the highly
publicized cases of teachers whose careers have been ruined because of censorship debates in courts
and school systems (Agee, 1999).
First Amendment Rights Relating to the Censorship of Books
Censorship cases often bring about debates over students first amendment rights. Students first
amendment rights are important to preserve so that students can not be excluded from meaningful
works or literature. It is understandable for the government to design educational plans as a way to get
its voice into classrooms, but the truth promoting function of the First Amendment provides no reason,
however, to question the right of students to explore a variety of ideas and perspectives, and to form
and express ideas of their own (Brown, 1994, p. 30). Schools already place a restriction on religious
material or material addressing current political controversy (Brown, 1994).
Censors typically feel as though the subject material of controversial books in the high school English
curriculum is too much for teenagers to handle (Shen, 2002).

Sheet Mask Risk
Risk of Using a Sheet Mask Sheet masks have been super popular these days, and I do sometime use
them for fun. Yet, did you know that almost all sheet masks that are not required to be kept in a fridge
contain a lot of preserva tives? Imagine there s some food wrapped in wet tissue in a zip lock bag. If it
s kept at room temperature for a long time, it will spoil and mold will start to grow, right? The same
principle applies to sheet masks too. Sheet masks contain lots of great natural ingredients and these
ingredients are like foods. Natural ingredients attract microbes, so preservatives are needed to keep the
natural ingredients in the mask fresh. Sheet masks are fun and very moisturizing, so you might be
using them very frequently, but I highly suggest you limit how much you use them. If you can, check
the ingredient list first before you pur chase a sheet mask. Natural ingredients are great, but if the
mask has a lot of preservatives so you don t have to refrigerate it, those chemical preservatives
counteract the benefits of the natural in gredients, right? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sole ingredient is the tofu skin, and it s shipped with ice like foods. Once you receive it, you have
to keep it in the fridge. This insures the safety of the product as well as the quality. Let s check an
ingredient list of a very popular sheet mask. Water (Safe) Butylene Glycol (Safe) Bifida Ferment
Lysate (Safe) Glycerin (Safe) Bis Peg 18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane (Chemical Conditioning
Agent) Hydroxyethylpiperazine Ethane Sulfonic Acid (Safe) Alcohol Denat. (It s ok, if it s not in large
amounts. However, in this mask, it s the 7th ingredient listed, which means it is the 7th biggest
percentage of the product, so it s not great) Peg 20 (Synthetic Preservative) Sodium Benzoate
(Synthetic Preservative) Sodium Hydroxide (PH Adjuster) Phenoxyethanol (Synthetic Preservative)

Similarities Between Antigone And Thomas King
Society plays a crucial role in everyone s lives as it directs the way one behaves, observes, and
interacts. Antigone and Borders written by Sophocles and Thomas King respectively, demonstrate the
roles and decisions executed by the protagonists according to societal expectations. To briefly
describe, Antigone is a play set in the ancient Geek era where the protagonist, Antigone, breaks a law
that holds the punishment of death, to give her traitorous brother a respectable funeral. On the other
hand, Borders is a short story set in modern day times where the protagonist, the narrator s mother, is
attempting to cross the border to visit her daughter without surrendering her Blackfoot status to a
Canadian or American citizenship. Both women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To emphasize, the phrase we had nowhere to go, that neither the Americans nor the Canadians would
let us in indicates that the narrator s mother knows that her decision to drive from border to border is
making the trip difficult not only for herself but her son as well (King 312). Not to mention, it also
illustrates that the mother is trying to dismiss her motherly characteristics like being nurturing and
affectionate and put up a hardened exterior because she wants acceptance for herself. However, she
did express some hope for her son to ensure him that they will gain justice eventually, which
demonstrates that even if she tries to venture out of the societal norms, her motherly instincts will
always be there (King 312). Moreover, it establishes that mother is willing to push until she gets her
way which is again typical of male qualities. Therefore, the violation of the societal expectations
reveals the narrator s mother s strong will to surpass the fear of the aftermath by not complying to
government authorities from two bordering

Indian Imperialism
Rudyard Kipling stated, East is East and West is West, and never the twain shall meet (Velgen 240).
One of the main questions posed by this novel, as asked by Mahmoud Ali and Hamidullah, is whether
or not it is possible to be friendly with the Englishmen. The book serves as an example as to how
difficult it might seem to achieve unity when there s diversity already present. This question is
answered through discovering the personal relationships among the main characters in the novel and
analyzing the effects of imperialism on the exploitation of those personal relationships. Set in British
colonial India, the novel explores cultural, religious, and political barriers and the hostility between
the subjects and the ruling class. India, a country already known to be diverse within itself and
containing innumerable groups formed by social hierarchy and distinct traditions, was unaware of a
society in which people of different backgrounds live in unity. This book created much controversy
because many critics believe that E.M. Forster, the author, was being impartial to the Ango Indians
and advocating more for the native Hindus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Forster uses the relationships of his characters to demonstrate that East and West have not yet reached
a point where they can cohabitate peacefully as a result of a variety of non political factors, including
differences in mentalities, the human propensity for selfishness in addition to the political factors of
colonization and English

Consumerism Speech
How many times would you say you thought, I need that bag, or those shoes because everyone else
has them? How many people do you speak to that know who you are as a person and not just the
things you like or the types of food you don t eat. Is it possible that you could, unwillingly and
unintentionally be superficial? Good morning everyone and welcome to the mindset of modern
society, materialistic and consumer driven. Today, the desirable consumerist lifestyle outweighs the
instinct of compassion, which only proves my point that the inherent values of consumerism force you
all; yes you, to be insensitive. The Australian poet Bruce Dawe wrote The Not So Good Earth during
the Vietnam War, about these values influencing the response ... Show more content on

Twice? Three times? Does it end? The colloquialisms in the poem only further denote the inextricable
link of consumerism to relationships. When it is linked this closely to people, the very nature of their
interaction is shaped into a shallow never ending cycle of meaningless expression. The falseness of
communication today is directly linked to the consumerist lifestyle and has been increasing since the
late 1880 s. Clancy of the Overflow not only depicts the city as a giant symbol of materialism, but also
portrays the townsfolk as having eager eyes and greedy stating that they have no time to grow, they
have no time to waste . This statement is indicative of the busyness of people s lives and negligence of
other humans. Similarly, when Paterson wrote As they shoulder one another in their rush and nervous
haste he shows the carelessness of people affected by consumerism in this era, which has only
increased from the time of Paterson to the time of Dawe, and furthermore to present day. What can we
do to change? What can we do to stop this perpetual chain of meaningless things, people and
interactions? It begins with the consumer mindset; this is what influences our identity, and our
communications. When consumerism becomes something we understand and acknowledge we can
then bring about change in relationships and eventually

Thematic Groupings of Essays
Thematic Groupings of Essays The three essays selected have several key traits in common. Among
the traits shared, each piece is written by a woman. Each essay expresses both a single aspect and the
general experience of being a woman in a western patriarchal society. Additionally, each piece of
writing is specifically divided into sections by theme, by style, and sometimes by formatting. This
essay will examine the essays as a group and specifically take note of the divisions within each essay.
How a writer divides her work can indicate the writer s perspective, sensibility, or strategy of
communication. In their own ways, each author is writing about the lack of equality for women in
society. The authors vary their methods of expression. Stanton is direct and abrupt. Cisneros is more
lyrical and descriptive. Brady uses humor, irony, and wit to make her points. The paper will contend
that the pieces of writing are, in their unique ways, divided, and will illustrate those divisions as an
intentional method of grouping by theme. Stanton begins with a section entitled Declaration of
Sentiments. (Stanton, Declaration of Sentiments and Resolution, Seneca Falls Convention 1848, Page
581) In her first section, she quotes the Declaration of Independence and makes small modifications
that support her assertions. She begins by appealing to every American s sense of national pride and
shared national history. The remainder of this section is a concise list of the ways in

The Bands And Music Groups That Are Popular Today
Introduction:
Look at the bands and music groups that are popular today. They use many different instruments to
create the songs they present to us. A common instrument they tend to use is the guitar. Whether it is
acoustic or electric, the guitar can be used in various styles of music such as rock, pop, or country,
presenting it s ability to adapt and change the different forms, creating perfect harmonies. Although, it
is a well known instrument around the world, people do not appreciate the time and effort it takes to
create such an incredible instrument. We tend to applaud the people that play it well, but what about
those who create it? What about the people behind the creation of the guitars we play? There is a lot
that goes into making such a magnificent instrument. While there is a lot of woodwork and
craftsmanship needed, putting the parts together without a mistake, people don t realize that there is a
lot of math that goes into creating a guitar. By combining the fields of mathematics and musical
theory, a craftsman can produce a guitar of great quality. To understand this complex interplay, we
must understand:
the relationship between frequency of sound waves and the pitch of musical notes
the body of a guitar as an acoustic resonator
Pythagorean tuning and the diatonic scale
the Western chromatic scale as a group of 12 elements closed under transposition in a specific system
of tuning
how to place frets on a guitar using either a mathematical idea

How Presidents Have Too Much Power
Most of the specifications for the executive branch in the Constitution, other than how he is to be
elected, have to deal with the interactions between Congress and the President. The president can (fill
in the blank) but only if (this part) of Congress approves. The powers of the president have been
interpreted widely so that he has more power than I believe the Framers intended. They wanted him to
be able to check Congress with veto power and be the head of the military. However, I think that
presidents nowadays have too much power. They are active in trying force their policy agenda through
Congress, manage foreign relations, and act as the administrative head of the entire nation. The
textbook lays it out well in, The vast size of the executive branch and the number and complexity of
decisions that must be made each day pose a challenge for the White House. (316) In order to deal
with the stresses put on the executive branch, there are thousands of employees that work to give the
president the information that he needs to make decisions. He has advisors, cabinet members,
legislative liaisons; the list goes on and on, but he is the person who actually gets to make all of the
choices. The President is limited in some ways and given more power in other ways by the structure
laid out for him in the Constitution, and evolved to be what it is now. Based on the way that the
President s office was created, the makeup of the Congress can present a challenge or an

The Tragedy Of The Bosnian Genocide
Reflections about major significant historical occurrences often lead to a philosophical inquiry as to
whether the outcome could have been changed. Often inspired by unfortunate events, historians may
never know if they could have been prevented. Genocides are an example of such an event, as they are
often influenced by delicate situations, and are often very tragic. The deepest tragedy of all is that we
will never know if these mass murders of specific ethnicities could have been averted. One such
dreadful occurrence became known to the public as the Bosnian Genocide. Lasting from 1992 till
1995, the Bosnian Genocide erupted after the ruination of Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia was a communist
government that was formed in 1929 from several ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By 1991, emboldened by the absence of a unifying figurehead, several provinces declared their
independence from Yugoslavia, which was now in ruins. Croatia, Serbia, and Slovenia all officially
formed their own nations in 1991. Slobodan Milosevic had taken control of Serbia in 1987, which was
largest by land area, and inspired strong nationalist feelings in Serbs. In 1992, Bosnia declared its
independence as well. Bosnia was composed of several ethnicities, including the Bosnian Muslims
(Bosniaks), who were the majority, Bosnian Serbs, and Bosnian Croats. Savo Heleta, who was living
in Bosnia at the time, described the ethnic boundaries in her book, Not My Turn To Die: ...there were
no clear cut boundaries there weren t three different regions, one for each ethnic group. People lived in
ethnically mixed cities, villages, neighborhoods, and apartment buildings. The presence of borders
may have prevented the genocide, and at least it might have softened the degree and severity of the
killings. Boundaries might have been able to allow the ethnicities to split peacefully and without
forcing anyone out of the area or out of the world. The declaration of Bosnian independence was not
received favourably by the Serbs. Since Bosnia, in 1991, was composed of forty four percent
Bosniaks, thirty one percent Serb, and seventeen percent Croat. Due to the clear majority of the
Bosniaks, the Serbs had fears about

Questionnaire On Classroom Observation
Reading Lesson Observation Questionnaire
1. Describe the classroom environment. In what ways did the environment support literacy?
a. This classroom supports literacy in numerous ways. There are visual aids all over the walls about
various subjects such as high frequency words, weather, days of the week, months, bullying, class
rules, a birthday wall, and consequences for bad behavior. Mrs. Brandt also has five stations set up
around her room and each one of them are labeled which is important for children because they will
learn to recognize what those words look like. The walls are nearly covered with these types of
posters, anchor charts, labels, pictures, etc.
2. Observe a reading lesson. Describe what, if anything you saw the students/teachers do before,
during, and after the lesson. If you observe more than one reading lesson (for example small groups)
or activity please comment on each.

i. Introduction of the day on SMARTboard
1. Displayed a paragraph on the SMARTboard introducing the students to the date and the activities
for the day.
a. Mrs. Brandt first read the paragraph out loud to the class while also pointing to each word as she
read out loud. Then, she had the class join in the second time to participate in a choral reading of the
introduction to the day. After the choral reading was finished, Mrs. Brandt would ask students to find a
word on the board, raise their hand when they found it, and then she would call a student up to the
board to circle

Assessment of the Factors that Impact Pay Inequity in America
The widening inequality in income has progressively grown to become a defining challenge in the
contemporary society. Now more than ever, the gap that exists between the rich and the poor is at its
all time high in decades, particularly in the developed economies. Emerging markets and developing
countries (EMDCs) have more mixed inequality trends where some countries have seen drops in
levels of inequality, but pervasive inequality trends continue to remain in access to vital sectors like
healthcare, education, and finance. The degree of inequality, therefore, does not come as a surprise,
nor the driving forces behind it, and the possible solutions to the problem are currently some of the
most fiercely debated issues by researchers and policy makers alike.
A great number of literature points to the fact that there is a considerable discrepancy in the wage
structure in the United States. Wage differential determined by educational level, gender, socio
economic status, race or ethnicity and technical factors like experience; in particular, all rose
significantly. Likewise, other determinants like the residual wage that is the dispersion of wage within
a skill or demographic group also increased simultaneously. This growth in wage inequality stems
from several factors such as the transformations in non wage

Plebeian Families
In the early years of Rome, the less wealthy plebeian majority typically worked as farmers on a
patrician estate through a clientage, a social relationship in which wealthy landholders offer protection
and financial aid to lesser citizens in return for political and labor support. The plebeian families had a
small plot of land within the estate that was used simultaneously to provide for the families and to
provide for the landowner.
If not bound by a clientage, plebeians would live within the walls of a city and earn a living by selling
food that they had grown themselves on a small plot of land or run a shop that provided common
amenities to Roman citizens

Soon, Rome became an organized sprawl of paved roads that connected cities and farms. Despite this
it was still cheaper and more efficient to transport goods by sea rather than by river or land. Sea travel
could also be the riskiest, subject to the whims of weather and theft from piracy. It was restricted by
the seasons as the period between November and March was regarded as being too unpredictable for
safe passage.
During the era of Roman Trade a state control had to be sanctioned over trade in order to guarantee
supply. This was called the annona system and it was very strict, enforcing taxation on all vessels that
entered Roman ports, no exceptions. The state taxed the movement of goods between provinces and
also controlled many local markets, even the establishment of a market by a landowner had to be
approved by a member of the Senate.
The Roman military, with its members in the hundred thousands, was the most prominent reason to
maintain trade with other regions. The promise of land to well serving soldiers also facilitated
expanding conquest. In fact, close to seventy percent of all government spending was towards the

  • 2. Using Alternative Energy Sources For The Uk Market Essay 1 Introduction All the vehicle OEM s are making a major effort to improve fuel consumption and reduce tailpipe CO2 emissions. One of the most common application for reducing tailpipe CO2 is using alternative energy sources than gasoline and diesel [1]. In accordance, this paper aims to present an outline design for a PHEV version of the Ford Focus family hatchback for the UK Market. 1.1 Manufacturer s Corporate Position As quoted in official company page, Ford s blueprint for sustainability goes beyond improved fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions to define sustainability as a business model that creates value by preserving and enhancing environmental, social and financial capital [2]. This approach confirms an enthusiasm that will eventually lead to hybrid/electric cars for Ford. Such improvement will mean a lot for UK market, as Ford is a very strong brand in UK, with Ford Fiesta being the top selling car, while Ford s C segment representative Focus is in 3rd rank among all competitor models [3]. To assure all areas were observed, I allowed a week to monitor the assessment data for two checklists. I observed social and emotional development over a three day span to allow for situational stimuli and behavior adjustments from a quick trip to visit her paternal grandparents. Finally, to pull all my information together, I completed a time sampling assessment to observe actions during free play. This time sampling focused on general intellectual behaviors which may indicate a level of giftedness in comparison with other children her age. With all the observations completed, I have analyzed each of the assessment work sheets. Observation of Julia s gross motor skills in relationship to abilities of children 3 5 years was completed using a checklist. The checklist indicated whether or not a specific skill was observed during the week of observation. This check list indicates Julia is on target developmentally. Because she is athletic and likes to play physically, her gross motor skills are strong. Using the checklist to determine areas in which ... additional support and help (Bentzen, 2009, p. 8) is needed, attention should focus on balance and strength. • 4. Physics of Ice Skating Many everyday activities, and sports involve physics. During the Olympics, you saw the graceful performance done by the figure skaters. Figure skating involves a lot of physics. These principles include friction, momentum, and Newton s Third Law. These core principles plays a big impact on the performance of figure skaters. Before understanding the physics of the ice skater s motion, the first thing to comprehend is the skates itself. The major parts of figure skates are the boot itself, and the blade. A figure skater performs a spin by rotating the blade backwards as the skater spins on a fixed point. This fixed point, is also known as the balls of their feet. The skater also has the toe pick, a rigid part of the blade located at the front of the blade, touching the ice. This allows the skater to put a forward pressure down without sliding forward and falling backwards. It also helps keep the skater s balance. When the skater performs a jump, he or she pushes off the toe pick, jumps, lands on the toe pick, and then rocks down to the blade. This also adds stability. The design of the blade allows the skater to rock down to the blade from the toe pick due to the curvature of the blade. This is called the rocker. The skater imparts the momentum from its opposite leg, back into his lower foot and then continues to move. This leads to the movement of the figure skater and the laws and principles of physics used to perform them. Figure skating involves ice, which means there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Application And Migration Of Sdn Software Defined Networking: Google s B4 SDN Dhruv Bhatia Illinois Tech dbhatia4@hawk.iit.edu ABSTRACT Software Defined Networking or SDN is an emerging paradigm in the computer networking world that attempts to build a computer network by essentially separating it into two systems, the control plane and the data plane. The separation effectively makes it possible to write a single high level program to control the behavior of an entire network. This allows a network operator to potentially write programs to more easily secure, manage or troubleshoot the networks. This is what SDN does. There are only a few significant implementations of Software Defined Networking that exists today. One of those few is Google s B4 SDN. However, even with today s modern science, there is no legitimate proof of ghosts or spirits. When unexplainable things happen when no one else is around, the idea of a paranormal being might seem rational. Despite the speculation of the phenomenon, what exactly is paranormal activity and how do residual areas become haunted by these spirits? The terms supernatural and paranormal are often confused. Supernatural is relating more to faith or something we cannot completely comprehend or prove with our sciences. Where as paranormal is something that cannot be explained with current knowledge and technology, but most likely has a scientific reason for why it s happening. (Kelly) The difference between both supernatural and paranormal has to do with being able to explain and understand the paranormal with whatever available science. Religion might often be pushed into the category for supernatural, as with the science available, we cannot fully explain ideologies of religion. With the paranormal, mediocre equipment is used to supposedly make contact with the supernatural. It s believed that the supernatural will eventually be able to be explained with advanced science. During this time, Australia held a strong alliance with Britain, which meant that when Britain declared war, Australia willingly backed its mother country to the last man and the last shilling (Fisher, 1914). The Gallipoli campaign was one of many battles, yet its effect on Australia was most significant. The primary goal was to capture the Dardanelles, allowing supplies to be shipped to Russian troops in Germany (Darlington et al, 2012, p.236). After the initial attempt by naval attack failed, another attack was planned. In 1915, 78 000 ANZAC soldiers landed on the shores of Gallipoli possessing unique qualities. Even though this campaign was considered a military failure, an inspiring legacy was born. Through establishing these undeniable qualities of courage, sacrifice, mateship and endurance, and comparing them to the legend, it is evident that the ANZAC legend is an accurate portrayal of the Australian soldiers during World War 1. • 22. Similarities Between Antigone And Thomas King Society plays a crucial role in everyone s lives as it directs the way one behaves, observes, and interacts. Antigone and Borders written by Sophocles and Thomas King respectively, demonstrate the roles and decisions executed by the protagonists according to societal expectations. To briefly describe, Antigone is a play set in the ancient Geek era where the protagonist, Antigone, breaks a law that holds the punishment of death, to give her traitorous brother a respectable funeral. On the other hand, Borders is a short story set in modern day times where the protagonist, the narrator s mother, is attempting to cross the border to visit her daughter without surrendering her Blackfoot status to a Canadian or American citizenship. Both women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To emphasize, the phrase we had nowhere to go, that neither the Americans nor the Canadians would let us in indicates that the narrator s mother knows that her decision to drive from border to border is making the trip difficult not only for herself but her son as well (King 312). Not to mention, it also illustrates that the mother is trying to dismiss her motherly characteristics like being nurturing and affectionate and put up a hardened exterior because she wants acceptance for herself. However, she did express some hope for her son to ensure him that they will gain justice eventually, which demonstrates that even if she tries to venture out of the societal norms, her motherly instincts will always be there (King 312). Moreover, it establishes that mother is willing to push until she gets her way which is again typical of male qualities. Therefore, the violation of the societal expectations reveals the narrator s mother s strong will to surpass the fear of the aftermath by not complying to government authorities from two bordering ... • 23. Indian Imperialism Rudyard Kipling stated, East is East and West is West, and never the twain shall meet (Velgen 240). One of the main questions posed by this novel, as asked by Mahmoud Ali and Hamidullah, is whether or not it is possible to be friendly with the Englishmen. The book serves as an example as to how difficult it might seem to achieve unity when there s diversity already present. This question is answered through discovering the personal relationships among the main characters in the novel and analyzing the effects of imperialism on the exploitation of those personal relationships. Set in British colonial India, the novel explores cultural, religious, and political barriers and the hostility between the subjects and the ruling class. India, a country already known to be diverse within itself and containing innumerable groups formed by social hierarchy and distinct traditions, was unaware of a society in which people of different backgrounds live in unity. This book created much controversy because many critics believe that E.M. Forster, the author, was being impartial to the Ango Indians and advocating more for the native Hindus. ... How many people do you speak to that know who you are as a person and not just the things you like or the types of food you don t eat. Is it possible that you could, unwillingly and unintentionally be superficial? Good morning everyone and welcome to the mindset of modern society, materialistic and consumer driven. Today, the desirable consumerist lifestyle outweighs the instinct of compassion, which only proves my point that the inherent values of consumerism force you all; yes you, to be insensitive. Does it end? The colloquialisms in the poem only further denote the inextricable link of consumerism to relationships. When it is linked this closely to people, the very nature of their interaction is shaped into a shallow never ending cycle of meaningless expression. The falseness of communication today is directly linked to the consumerist lifestyle and has been increasing since the late 1880 s. Clancy of the Overflow not only depicts the city as a giant symbol of materialism, but also portrays the townsfolk as having eager eyes and greedy stating that they have no time to grow, they have no time to waste . This statement is indicative of the busyness of people s lives and negligence of other humans. Similarly, when Paterson wrote As they shoulder one another in their rush and nervous haste he shows the carelessness of people affected by consumerism in this era, which has only increased from the time of Paterson to the time of Dawe, and furthermore to present day. What can we do to change? What can we do to stop this perpetual chain of meaningless things, people and interactions? It begins with the consumer mindset; this is what influences our identity, and our communications. When consumerism becomes something we understand and acknowledge we can then bring about change in relationships and eventually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Thematic Groupings of Essays Thematic Groupings of Essays The three essays selected have several key traits in common. Among the traits shared, each piece is written by a woman. Each essay expresses both a single aspect and the general experience of being a woman in a western patriarchal society. Additionally, each piece of writing is specifically divided into sections by theme, by style, and sometimes by formatting. This essay will examine the essays as a group and specifically take note of the divisions within each essay. How a writer divides her work can indicate the writer s perspective, sensibility, or strategy of communication. In their own ways, each author is writing about the lack of equality for women in society. The authors vary their methods of expression. Stanton is direct and abrupt. Cisneros is more lyrical and descriptive. Brady uses humor, irony, and wit to make her points. The paper will contend that the pieces of writing are, in their unique ways, divided, and will illustrate those divisions as an intentional method of grouping by theme. Stanton begins with a section entitled Declaration of Sentiments. (Stanton, Declaration of Sentiments and Resolution, Seneca Falls Convention 1848, Page 581) In her first section, she quotes the Declaration of Independence and makes small modifications that support her assertions. She begins by appealing to every American s sense of national pride and shared national history. The remainder of this section is a concise list of the ways in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. The Bands And Music Groups That Are Popular Today Introduction: Look at the bands and music groups that are popular today. They use many different instruments to create the songs they present to us. A common instrument they tend to use is the guitar. Whether it is acoustic or electric, the guitar can be used in various styles of music such as rock, pop, or country, presenting it s ability to adapt and change the different forms, creating perfect harmonies. Although, it is a well known instrument around the world, people do not appreciate the time and effort it takes to create such an incredible instrument. We tend to applaud the people that play it well, but what about those who create it? What about the people behind the creation of the guitars we play? There is a lot that goes into making such a magnificent instrument. While there is a lot of woodwork and craftsmanship needed, putting the parts together without a mistake, people don t realize that there is a lot of math that goes into creating a guitar. By combining the fields of mathematics and musical theory, a craftsman can produce a guitar of great quality. To understand this complex interplay, we must understand: the relationship between frequency of sound waves and the pitch of musical notes the body of a guitar as an acoustic resonator Pythagorean tuning and the diatonic scale the Western chromatic scale as a group of 12 elements closed under transposition in a specific system of tuning how to place frets on a guitar using either a mathematical idea ... How Presidents Have Too Much Power Most of the specifications for the executive branch in the Constitution, other than how he is to be elected, have to deal with the interactions between Congress and the President. The president can (fill in the blank) but only if (this part) of Congress approves. The powers of the president have been interpreted widely so that he has more power than I believe the Framers intended. They wanted him to be able to check Congress with veto power and be the head of the military. However, I think that presidents nowadays have too much power. They are active in trying force their policy agenda through Congress, manage foreign relations, and act as the administrative head of the entire nation. The textbook lays it out well in, The vast size of the executive branch and the number and complexity of decisions that must be made each day pose a challenge for the White House. (316) In order to deal with the stresses put on the executive branch, there are thousands of employees that work to give the president the information that he needs to make decisions. He has advisors, cabinet members, legislative liaisons; the list goes on and on, but he is the person who actually gets to make all of the choices. The President is limited in some ways and given more power in other ways by the structure laid out for him in the Constitution, and evolved to be what it is now. Based on the way that the President s office was created, the makeup of the Congress can present a challenge or an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Often inspired by unfortunate events, historians may never know if they could have been prevented. Genocides are an example of such an event, as they are often influenced by delicate situations, and are often very tragic. The deepest tragedy of all is that we will never know if these mass murders of specific ethnicities could have been averted. Slobodan Milosevic had taken control of Serbia in 1987, which was largest by land area, and inspired strong nationalist feelings in Serbs. In 1992, Bosnia declared its independence as well. Bosnia was composed of several ethnicities, including the Bosnian Muslims (Bosniaks), who were the majority, Bosnian Serbs, and Bosnian Croats. Savo Heleta, who was living in Bosnia at the time, described the ethnic boundaries in her book, Not My Turn To Die: ...there were no clear cut boundaries there weren t three different regions, one for each ethnic group. People lived in ethnically mixed cities, villages, neighborhoods, and apartment buildings. The presence of borders may have prevented the genocide, and at least it might have softened the degree and severity of the killings. Boundaries might have been able to allow the ethnicities to split peacefully and without forcing anyone out of the area or out of the world. The declaration of Bosnian independence was not received favourably by the Serbs. Factors That Impact Pay Inequity Assessment of the Factors that Impact Pay Inequity in America Name Institution Assessment of the Factors that Impact Pay Inequity in America The widening inequality in income has progressively grown to become a defining challenge in the contemporary society. Now more than ever, the gap that exists between the rich and the poor is at its all time high in decades, particularly in the developed economies. Emerging markets and developing countries (EMDCs) have more mixed inequality trends where some countries have seen drops in levels of inequality, but pervasive inequality trends continue to remain in access to vital sectors like healthcare, education, and finance. The degree of inequality, therefore, does not come as a surprise, nor the driving forces behind it, and the possible solutions to the problem are currently some of the most fiercely debated issues by researchers and policy makers alike. A great number of literature points to the fact that there is a considerable discrepancy in the wage structure in the United States. Wage differential determined by educational level, gender, socio economic status, race or ethnicity and technical factors like experience; in particular, all rose significantly. Likewise, other determinants like the residual wage that is the dispersion of wage within a skill or demographic group also increased simultaneously. This growth in wage inequality stems from several factors such as the transformations in non wage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Plebeian Families In the early years of Rome, the less wealthy plebeian majority typically worked as farmers on a patrician estate through a clientage, a social relationship in which wealthy landholders offer protection and financial aid to lesser citizens in return for political and labor support. The plebeian families had a small plot of land within the estate that was used simultaneously to provide for the families and to provide for the landowner. If not bound by a clientage, plebeians would live within the walls of a city and earn a living by selling food that they had grown themselves on a small plot of land or run a shop that provided common amenities to Roman citizens After the rapid expansion of Ancient Rome and the Punic Wars, slaves were rapidly ... It was restricted by the seasons as the period between November and March was regarded as being too unpredictable for safe passage. During the era of Roman Trade a state control had to be sanctioned over trade in order to guarantee supply. This was called the annona system and it was very strict, enforcing taxation on all vessels that entered Roman ports, no exceptions. The state taxed the movement of goods between provinces and also controlled many local markets, even the establishment of a market by a landowner had to be approved by a member of the Senate.
