Elizabeth Barrett Browning s Sonnets From The Portuguese
Elizabeth Barrett Browning s Sonnets from the Portuguese are a set of sonnets which highlight
Browning s perspective on idealised, spiritual love. F.S Fitzgerald s 1926 novel, The Great Gatsby
criticises Elizabeth Browning s Sonnets From the Portuguese embodies the female identity through
her portrayal of the persona as a highly educated women which was at the time a reversal of typical
female roles. The classical allusion to Theocritus, I though once how Theocritus had sung alludes that

The differing perspective of love are outlaid by Gatsby and Tom as we explore Gatsby s idea of pure
genuine love of Daisy, compared with the superficial love portrayed by Tom. You re not going to take
care of her anymore emphasises this aspect as Tom only wants Daisy as an object for him, paralleling
the contextual values of the Roaring Twenties of Hedonism and superficiality i.e. the motif of the foul
dust expressed throughout the book, referring to the carelessness and corruption of the society as
promulgated by the ideals of Tom Buchannan. The motif of this foul dust is directly combated by
Gatsby s motif of the green light which emphasises the hope, optimism and pure concept of the
American Dream which is corrupted by this foul dust, represented by the superficiality of love
expressed from 6Daisy and Tom that ultimately succeeds Gatsby s dreams and hope. Fitzgerald
explicitly criticises the careless and hedonistic values of the roaring twenties, as it corrupts the original
pure American Dream , shown by Gatsby and disintegrates it into the pursuit of

Cyber Security And Risk Analysis
As a student pursuing a major in Security and Risk Analysis, also known as Cyber Security, it has
been repeatedly drilled into my head how much potential the Internet has to change the ways in which
people experience the external world in which we live, for better or for worse. The Internet, consisting
of a gargantuan amount of data, is composed of more than 150 million websites, such as Facebook,
LinkedIn, blogs, or other virtual worlds such as Second Life. Such websites, made possible by the
Internet, act as a medium between two worlds: 1) an external world experienced by embodied
conscious beings and 2) a virtual world experienced by disembodied, yet still conscious, beings. The
ways in which individuals experience various phenomena pertaining to such a contrasting dichotomy
between external and virtual worlds, characterized by disembodiment, can be difficult to comprehend
given that humans tend to rely so heavily on immediate sense data provided by their physical bodies.
Fortunately, phenomenology (as Shaun Gallagher and Dan Zahavi have presented it) can help us to
understand such experiential differences. Phenomenologist Hubert Dreyfus begins to analyze these
differences in experienced phenomena between embodiment and disembodiment and its social
implications through his work On the Internet. Dreyfus claim that disembodied telepresence,
characterized by disembodiment through technological mediums, as detrimental to society may
initially be perceived as plausible due to

Persuasive Essay About Undocumented Immigrants
My Uncle risked his life crossing the border, his family, and his future. But he was determined to be
with the love of his life, my aunt, no matter how risky it was. He was terrified, no other emotion was
coursing through his mind. He just wanted to make it there, and he did. He got lucky, unlike many
other undocumented immigrants who cross the border. and they are labeled dangerous and should be
evacuated as if they are investing our country. But like my uncle, they are coming here for a better
opportunity, because they believe in America. They believe in us, so why should we not believe in
them? Undocumented immigrants should be able to stay in America, any age, and have a chance to get
legal without complications. Because Immigrants are an improvement to our country, we are all
immigrants, immigrants are as much of a person as born Americans are. Letting undocumented
Immigrants stay in our country, isn t just a plus for them, it s a plus for us. They are rising our
population, and they help our economy, a lot! Many people, including the president, think that
immigrant workers increase labor market competition, and bring down wages for everyone. Lucky,
this is misguided, and driven into false information. Immigrants do not take up space in employment.
So they are not taking away anything from native workers, If anything, they are providing more
business for us to purchase from. People also think that terrorist are why immigrants are judge, and
they are right for one part.

Symbolism In The Chronicles Of Narnia
In the series, The Chronicles of Narnia, written by a Christian author named C.S. Lewis, wrote the
series as fun entertainment for young folks. C.S. Lewis actually grew up as an atheist, but later
became the most popular convert to Christianity in the twentieth century. He was converted to
Christianity at the age of thirty three and from there on out he devoted his life to promote and write
about Christianity (Byfield). In The Chronicles of Narnia, there are several symbols and references to
the Bible. It is written from a Christian perspective, and made Christianity known to all who was
reading it. The series was also popular because even if you believe in a different religion, it was open
to interpretation and is a series that is just as appealing to other groups of different faith as well.
Narnia itself has symbolism written all over it, but it is up to the reader to find it and really understand
the meaning of everything that happens and how it relates to the Christian faith (McGrath). C.S. Lewis
in a way, re told the life of Jesus Christ, and all the tragic events that happened to him in a fun,
creative way that appeal to the younger audience and maybe gave them a better picture of what Jesus
went through. Lewis wrote books that he wish he would have read as a child (McGrath). A good mix

of overcoming temptation, such as the scene of Aslan s banquet table. Aslan is just an overall major

Concetps of Democracy and South Africa
1.From a basic and conceptual standpoint, thin concepts of democracy are more narrow, whilst thick
concepts of it take a much broader stance.(Democracy Index 2012:5)
Both definitions include the fundamental electoral requirements of a democracy whilst the thin
concepts seem to stay within this minimalist realm(Democracy Index 2012:5) and the thick definition
encompasses more political freedoms, adding civil liberties to the list of requirements as well.
(Democracy Index 2012:26)
Dahls version of polyarchy and Freedom Houses electoral democracy are examples of thin definitions
where both define democracy by political freedoms only, mostly related to elections and votes.
(Democracy Index, 25, 26), Freedom houses non electoral definition of democracy (Democracy Index
2012:5) is thick as it adds to it a range of political liberties and includes public freedoms.(Democracy
Index 2012:5)
Sometimes there are even more points added to certain thick definition of democracy because they do
not see political and civil liberties as enough to define a country as truly democratic.(Democratic
Index 2012:26, 27)
The economic index does this where it sees that requirements such as a population that participates in
the democratic process and a government that is able to carry out its given role must be added on to
make a democracy more practically efficient.(Democratic Index 2012: 26, 27)
In conclusion thin democracy is a narrow definition(Democracy Index 2012:5) leading more towards

Houseboat Vacation Essay
Taking a vacation isn t just a way to spend time with your family. It gives you a chance to unplug and
it s good for your health.
One of the most important and overlooked aspects of a vacation is relaxing. People routinely
overschedule their vacations and come back exhausted. A houseboat vacation offers you a way to
avoid the problem.
You spend most of your time out on the water, rather than trying to cram in visits to tourist sites. Even
so, there are some things you must deal with ahead of time to keep your houseboat vacation as
relaxing as possible.
Let s jump in and help you plan for relaxation.
Mind the Weather
Weather is a make or break factor when planning a houseboat vacation. The problem is that weather is

Stick with non perishable versions of items, such as non dairy or powdered coffee creamer.
Buy and freeze any meat you want ahead of time. You can pack the frozen meat in styrofoam
containers with dry ice.
Dry ice can damage your skin, so only handle it with gloves or a thick towel. Tape the containers
closed to avoid accidental skin contact.
Stick with fresh fruits and veggies that hold up well at room temperatures, such as apples, carrots,
onions, and potatoes.
Linens and Bedding
Always ask the rental company about linens and bedding when planning your houseboat vacation.
Some companies provide them, some don t, and some only provide them with luxury packages.
If possible, assign each person a color of linen. Figuring out which white facecloth belongs to which
person after three days is almost impossible.
Think you put enough dish towels in your car for the trip? You didn t. Add some more.
Even if you expect warm weather and bring along sleeping bags, include some fitted sheets. The last
thing you want is your face stuck to a vinyl cushion.

Essay on Korean Comfort Women
Comfort women, or ianfu as they are called in Korean, are females who were forced sex slaves for the
Japanese Imperial Army (Chunghee). Some of the women were dragged off with physical force as
their families wept, while others were actually sold to the army by their destitute families (Watanabe).
Still other were officially drafted by the Japanese Imperial Army and believed they would be factory
workers or nurses (Hwang in Schellstede 4). Some Korean village leaders were ordered to send young
women to participate in important business for the Imperial Army (Watanabe). Many Japanese soldiers
referred to comfort women as teishintai, which means volunteer corps, so those women who thought
they would be working in a factory would not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The majority of Korean women seem to have come from lower class worker and farmer families.
Korean and other Asian women were assigned to lower ranking soldiers, while Japanese and European
women were reserved for higher ranking officers (Watanabe). This obviously portrays the
condescending attitude the Japanese had toward Koreans.
Japanese military leaders formulated the concept of comfort women in order to stop soldiers from
committing sexual violence towards women they might encounter. Japanese Lieutenant General
Okamura Yasuji proposed that comfort women should be shipped to Shanghai to solve the problem of
223 rapes reportedly committed by troops there (Kim). One former comfort woman reported that in
some places, soldiers were so desperate for some kind of outlet for their sexual desires that they had
intercourse with dogs (Kim in Schellstede 32). It is estimated that over 125 million forced sexual acts
took place between Japanese soldiers and comfort women in the span of only five years (Kim). The
Japanese military made soldiers pay to have sex with comfort women. The prices were as follows:
1.50 yen for privates, 2 yen for non commissioned officers, 2.50 yen for junior officers, and 3 yen for
senior officers (Hicks 19). Concerned for the health of their soldiers, Japanese military leaders
provided condoms to thwart the spread of any sexually transmitted diseases; however, these condoms

Holden Caulfield Relevant Today
Many consider The Catcher in the Rye to be the most poignant and popular story of adolescence in
American literature. Reading reviews, examining the public reception, and uncovering depths of
research would evidence this well. However, the value of the novel rests not in its popularity a simple
sign of its inherent value but in its ability to resonate truth. More than merely telling a story, Salinger
creates a relatable life through the actions and attitudes of his ornery adolescent character Holden
Caulfield. Even though Holden can be annoying and the setting of the novel dated, his perspective of
the world makes The Catcher in the Rye just as relevant to Australian teenagers today as it was back in
1951 when first published. The characterization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This continues to make the novel just as relevant to Australian youth in 2018. During his meeting with
his history teacher Mr Spencer, before Holden leaves Pencey, he explains why he left Elkon Hills. He
attributes, One of the biggest reasons I left... was because I was surrounded by phonies. They were
coming in the god damn window...Mr Haas... was the phoniest bastard you ve ever seen. (pg. 12)
Holden s reference to the adjective phonies is the first of many references to people who he sees as
fake, superficial and lacking authenticity. Naming the principal, an adult in a position of authority as a
phony coupled with a derogatory insult such as bastard indicates his negative and critical view of
those who he sees as fake, particularly adults. This view makes the novel resonate with so many teens
today. Moreover, his scepticism of phonies is eptimized in his description of his brother D.B he tells
the reader that now [D.B] is out in Hollywood... being a prostitute. If there s one thing I hate, it s the
movies, (pg.1). Through the first person narration and the language choice of the noun prostitute it is
clear that Holden views Hollywood as the center of superficiality a world where nothing is genuine or
real. The strong language choice of the verb hate , illustrates Holden s negative views of this aspect of
the adult world. This scepticism of a lack of authenticity in the world makes the novel relatable to a
contemporary audience. A Forbes article entitle Authenticity: The Way To The Millennial s Heart,
outlines that authenticity can be considered to be one of the ten values regarded as most essential to
youth. As teenagers our world view is influenced by technology and social media. Facebook, Twitter,
Instagram the plethora of social media has made it easier to fake it. Before any scheduled meeting,

Crispin, by Avi, takes place during the Middle Ages the Medieval era. Living during this period also
meant social class division and intense Christianity. This causes Crispin s character to become

the lowest rank of peasants, and suffers from many hardships because of it. With being serf, your

Sikh migrants began arriving in the United States more than one hundred years ago, and now have
reached numbers close to half a million. Like most other immigrant communities in the United States,
Sikhs have faced problems that are both specific to their community and that are also shared by other
ethnic communities making their way in a new land. Despite their recent numbers and century long

A Sikh man, by design, stands out in a crowd with his turban and full beard. These outwardly shown

The invasion of the Punjab by the British during the Anglo Sikh War in 1849 led to the annexation of
the Punjab to Britain in March of that year. The ferocity and tenacity of the Sikh warriors greatly
impressed the British, and the fierceness of the British earned the mutual respect from the Sikhs as
well. The British considered the Sikhs a martial race , and Sikhs were allowed to enlist in the British
Indian Army. At it s highest point, Sikh enlistment represented 33% of the British Indian Army,
despite the fact that Sikhs only accounted for around 2% of India s total population.[4] Sikh regiments
were eventually dispatched throughout the colonies of the British Empire. Many of these Sikh soldiers
remained in the colonies after completion of their military duties. Their reputation as soldiers and
warriors put them in demand as employes in police and various other security services throughout the
British Empire. These soldier sojourners represent the first phase of Sikhs being scattered across the
globe.[5]

Corruption In The Poisonwood Bible
Throughout Barbara Kingsolver s novel The Poisonwood Bible, the downfall of the Price family is
enclosed through the words of each family member. One may blame Nathan Price, the father of the
Price family, for the downfall of his family. Therefore, his preaching is poisonous to his loved ones.
During their time in the Congo, the women of the Price family constantly wish to return back home,
but it is Nathan who forces their stay. Nathan poisons his family through his abusive behavior towards
his family, and ultimately kills his daughter, Ruth May. Aside from poisoning his own family, Nathan
Price also poisons the African people. Towards the end of the novel, Adah Price goes into detail about
the mistakes that have taken place in the copies of the Bible. For ... Show more content on

Through Orleanna Price, the reader learns that upon marriage, Nathan was drafted for the war. While
on the Philippine shore, his company fought their way into Luzon. After being struck in the head with
a shell fragment, Nathan was spotted on the beach and picked up by a PT boat. It wasn t until a few
days later that Nathan learned that his fellow soldiers did not make it out alive. Orleanna states, It
would permanently curl one soldier s heart like a piece of shoe leather (196). Nathan s guilt for
surviving the war makes him fearless when placed in dangerous situations, such as life in the Congo.
Not only does Nathan Price carry the burden of guilt throughout the novel, but Orleanna does as well.
Upon the death of Ruth May, Orleanna carries the guilt of not guiding her daughters out of the Congo
to safety. Orleanna states, The substance of grief if not imaginary. It s as real as rope or the absence of

Nectar in a Sieve by Markandaya
Bend like the grass, that you do not break. This quote, said by Nathan, shows that many characters do
not fight for what they believe in, but rather, they let it happen, and acquiesce in their difficult
situations. Nectar in a Sieve by Markandaya is a story about an Indian family living with demanding
situations and trying to obtain food for their children, all while dealing with foreigners and a growing
society. Numerous characters in the story accept issues and events that they cannot change. The
characters attitudes towards acceptance and change is to endure it, and let the change occur. The
narrator, Rukmani, does not strive for what she believes in, instead, she lets the influences and
decisions of others control her life. A point in the story when Rukmani accepts unavoidable
circumstances, and does nothing to stop it, is when Kunthi blackmails Nathan into giving her their rice
(Markandaya 85). This shows that Rukmani does not fight for what she believes in because she could
have went looking for Kunthi to get her rice back, but she did not. Therefore, Rukmani lets others
control her. Another time in Nectar in a Sieve when the protagonist accepts changes that occur in her
life is when Raja is killed (Markandaya 90). Two men come to Rukmani s house, and they are subtly
telling her not to sue them for the death of her child. Instead of suing the tannery for the premature

Propionibacterium Acne
A group investigating the effects of normal flora on the pathogenesis of Propionibacterium acnes on
the surface of the skin will characterize this microenvironment and describe evidence showing: (1)
need for a new treatment for acne; (2) reduced population of P. acnes by normal flora will prevent
future breakouts; (3) potential for normal flora to compete with P. acnes; (4) mechanisms by which
recolonization will be possible; (5) production of a topical agent will allow for recolonization to occur;

[5] While culture techniques provide identification to a small population present on the surface of the
skin, this allows for only living species to be cultured. The populations identified using molecular
approaches showed a higher range of diversity, but measured both live and dead cells using 16S
ribosome RNA metagenomic sequencing. For a topical agent to be effective against P. acnes the
bacteria present should be alive to allow competition between bacterial cells, so the needs for
molecular approaches in this study are not necessary. Typical lab culture techniques will provide the
necessary isolates found living on healthy hosts. With the studies previously performed on ways to
treat acne, one team of investigators found that a fungus present in aloe vera exhibits antimicrobial
and anti inflammatory properties against P. acnes. [6] Talaromyces wortmannii poses Compound C,
which can be obtained from crude extracts of the aloe vera plant that is the host to this fungi.
Compound C showed inhibition of toll like receptors that induce inflammation response. P. acnes
induces inflammation through the use of toll like receptors, TLR 2 specifically, and induces
inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. [7] From Grice et al. of the overall species diversity on the
human skins shows a fungus that is part of the normal flora of the skin. Since

The internationally recognized South Korean electronics company, Samsung Group, is accredited in
the Fortune global top company but 2.5 decades prior, the company was initially just a small domestic
grocery store (Samsung, 2017; Lifewire, 2017). The company s product quality, design, pricing, and
technology has not always been known as it is known in the past decade. Founder, Lee Byung chull,
diversified his products from food, textile, building, wool, insurance, security, retail and finally to the
success of electronics in the 1960s; before becoming one of the top five most powerful Asian

development towards their success is intriguing; revealing multiple setbacks including the Korean

How Gender Roles Are Predetermined by the Environment
How gender roles are predetermined by the environment
What is male? What is female? The answers to these questions everyone may depend on the types of
gender roles they were exposed to as a child. Gender roles can be defined as the behaviours and
attitudes expected of male and female members of a society by that society.
Basically to make it clear the pattern of masculine or feminine behaviours of an individual that is
defined by a particular culture and that is largely determined by a child s upbringing is what is calls
gender roles. Gender roles vary. Different cultures impose different expectations upon the men and
women who live in that culture. A person s sexuality comes from within him or her making a person

Socrate Socrates Research Paper
One of the most famous Greek philosophers that was ahead of his time was a man by the name of
Socrates. Socrates was mocked as a philosopher because of the way he thought which was not
welcomed in greek philosophy. We know of his life only because of his admirers Plato and Xenophon.
They observed Socrates s complex teachings and to what we intake now in modern society.
His early life started out in Ciria Greece in 470 B.C the reason why we know this is because again of
his followers. He grew up not in a noble family and received no high class education and a lower class
family. Socrates father was a stonemason and a sculptor and he learned his father s sculpting ways.
His first job started out as a sculptor for many years until he gave it up on philosophy and was paid to
be a philosopher. Later on in life he married and had three sons which he had no connection with, but
a short time after he joined the greek army and was in the infantry and later after the war ended he

When is it honorable in society s opinion that Rose of Sharon can be gloomy? In many ways of
answering, Steinbeck morbidly offers a stillborn baby. She picked up a lantern and held it over an

Structure Of The Two Ketone Groups
Prednisolone
1. Structure
The two ketone groups will be sp2 hybridised and so are the carbon to carbon (C to C) double bonds.
The carbon atoms that are part of alkanes and the alcohol groups will be sp3 hybridised. There isn t
any resonance in the molecule.
2. Functional Groups
There are 3 different functional groups, excluding the alkane and cycloalkanes. There are two aliphatic
ketones and three aliphatic alcohols along with a cyclohexadiene, where one of the ketones is found.
The alcohols are secondary, tertiary and primary as you go from left to right of the molecule.
3. Conformation of prednisolone 4. Stereochemistry in prednisolone
Prednisolone has 7 chiral centres, which would give rise to 128 possible stereoisomers. There are also
two C to C double bonds, however because they are part of a ring, they wouldn t give rise to any
geometrical isomers.
5. Acidic or basic functional groups in the drug
Prednisolone is a neutral molecule. Alcohol groups are mildly acidic and could theoretically act as an
acid at a high pH, but that would happen very rarely, certainly not at physiological pH. There are no
basic groups in Prednisolone.
6. Ionisation state of the drug in the stomach (pH of 2) and blood (pH of 7.4)
Prednisolone would remain in this neutral state both at pH 2 and at pH 7.4. This is because its
strongest acid pKa is 12.59 (the tertiary alcohol; the primary and the secondary alcohols have pKa
values of 13.87 and 14.93 respectively). Hence, the hydroxyl

For the Sake of Our Planet, Tourism Should Be...
The world is huge and mysterious, full of wonders and surprises, and humans are ever inquisitive by
nature. The need for human to consistently travel and quench their curiousity through new discoveries
had been evident since early civilization. Like those myths and legends of Gulliver s Travels to
appease the curiousity of people in the pastof the vast , unknwon Eart, to the real history and conquers
of Marco Popl, humans have never find it enough to stop unreveling the wonders of nature and Earth
to cease travelling. Especially with the advancement of and improvement of transport technologies.

The environment may be destroyed in the process of building these infrastructures, like the clearing of
lands for not only the hotels and shops, but also for better accessibility and transport system. This may
eventually lead to overcrowding of the tourist spot. Following are the air and noise pollution,
unavoidable when overpopulation occurs. This further degrades the environment.
Therefore tourism should be discouraged as it can cause great harm to the environment of that
particular tourist spot with the influx followed by the tourism industry.
Also the travelling in modern modes of transports like air palnes and various land transports releases
large amount of carbon gases that can result in global temperature rise. And of course the rise in
carbon emmision is a major influece from the rise in tourism as many prefer the mode of transport by
air. The advancemnet of transporation technology by air has not only hasten travelling time, but as
thismode of transport became more common, it became cheaper as well. Many budget airline
companies are springing out, making travelling more affordable and more popular. However 12% of
the world s carbon emmision is contributed by aviation.
Although there are many other industries and activities, like factories wastes, which produce more
carbon emmision than air travel alone, discouraging tourism (along with other sectors) can help cut
down on the carbon emmision.
But on the other hand, as more people travel due to their

Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market
Christina Rossetti s poem Goblin Market provokes vivid imagery and illustrates the cost and
consequences of rash actions. The narrative poem tells of two women going about their daily lives,
one woman being steadfast in denying forbidden or dangerous choices while the other willingly risks

beginning of the poem, but Laura s curiosity proves to be stronger than her sister s warning. Rossetti
creates an uncomfortable struggle between the consequences of pursuing lust and the need to explore
human desires. With language like sucked and heaved, Laura loses her youth and bloom as a result of

They will not sell Lizzie the fruit to take away with her; instead they attack, jostle, and abuse her.
Smashing their fruit into her face and leave bruises and torn clothing in their wake before running

Alexie s imagery unravels the darkest secret from native people. All white women love Indian men.
That is always the case. White women feign disgust/at the savage in blue jeans and T shirt, but
secretly lust after him. The continuous concept of patriarchy that has been carried throughout years
make it difficult for even white women to escape their own gender because being a woman means you
will be controlled by men and escaping the chains of patriarchy seems unrealistic thus, the cycle of
this continues as the identity of the women fades because women are not seen as humans. She will be
swept away with their storms of patriarchy and will eventually demolish the white woman s life while
the men commit murders and become alcoholics. When the Indian man unbuttons his pants, the white
women should think of the topsoil. As the white women is ready to sexually engage in the Indian men
she forgets she belongs to the whites who give greater pleasure simultaneously, becoming difficult for
women to escape the ideology of men policing around women and using them like objects to fulfill
their desires. The obscure meaning of topsoil points out the irony as the white people are on the
topsoil as well as, superior. In the contrary, native women are at the surface where life is destroyed.
However, the dirt reaching the top soil effortlessly illustrates the wrongs white men have done in the

It is simply a matter of pouring the liquid glucosamine chondroitin over the dogs food at meal time

product. However, some believe that splitting the dose of glucosamine chondroitin and giving their
animals to doses each day is more effective.
Glucosamine chondroitin is a widely used supplement product for treating canine osteoarthritis
without the risks of negative side effects.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning s Sonnets From The Portuguese Elizabeth Barrett Browning s Sonnets from the Portuguese are a set of sonnets which highlight Browning s perspective on idealised, spiritual love. F.S Fitzgerald s 1926 novel, The Great Gatsby criticises Elizabeth Browning s Sonnets From the Portuguese embodies the female identity through her portrayal of the persona as a highly educated women which was at the time a reversal of typical female roles. The differing perspective of love are outlaid by Gatsby and Tom as we explore Gatsby s idea of pure genuine love of Daisy, compared with the superficial love portrayed by Tom. You re not going to take care of her anymore emphasises this aspect as Tom only wants Daisy as an object for him, paralleling the contextual values of the Roaring Twenties of Hedonism and superficiality i.e. the motif of the foul dust expressed throughout the book, referring to the carelessness and corruption of the society as promulgated by the ideals of Tom Buchannan. The motif of this foul dust is directly combated by Gatsby s motif of the green light which emphasises the hope, optimism and pure concept of the American Dream which is corrupted by this foul dust, represented by the superficiality of love expressed from 6Daisy and Tom that ultimately succeeds Gatsby s dreams and hope. • 3. Cyber Security And Risk Analysis As a student pursuing a major in Security and Risk Analysis, also known as Cyber Security, it has been repeatedly drilled into my head how much potential the Internet has to change the ways in which people experience the external world in which we live, for better or for worse. The Internet, consisting of a gargantuan amount of data, is composed of more than 150 million websites, such as Facebook, LinkedIn, blogs, or other virtual worlds such as Second Life. Such websites, made possible by the Internet, act as a medium between two worlds: 1) an external world experienced by embodied conscious beings and 2) a virtual world experienced by disembodied, yet still conscious, beings. The ways in which individuals experience various phenomena pertaining to such a contrasting dichotomy between external and virtual worlds, characterized by disembodiment, can be difficult to comprehend given that humans tend to rely so heavily on immediate sense data provided by their physical bodies. Fortunately, phenomenology (as Shaun Gallagher and Dan Zahavi have presented it) can help us to understand such experiential differences. Phenomenologist Hubert Dreyfus begins to analyze these differences in experienced phenomena between embodiment and disembodiment and its social implications through his work On the Internet. Dreyfus claim that disembodied telepresence, characterized by disembodiment through technological mediums, as detrimental to society may initially be perceived as plausible due to ... • 4. Persuasive Essay About Undocumented Immigrants My Uncle risked his life crossing the border, his family, and his future. But he was determined to be with the love of his life, my aunt, no matter how risky it was. He was terrified, no other emotion was coursing through his mind. He just wanted to make it there, and he did. He got lucky, unlike many other undocumented immigrants who cross the border. and they are labeled dangerous and should be evacuated as if they are investing our country. But like my uncle, they are coming here for a better opportunity, because they believe in America. They believe in us, so why should we not believe in them? Undocumented immigrants should be able to stay in America, any age, and have a chance to get legal without complications. Because Immigrants are an improvement to our country, we are all immigrants, immigrants are as much of a person as born Americans are. Letting undocumented Immigrants stay in our country, isn t just a plus for them, it s a plus for us. They are rising our population, and they help our economy, a lot! Many people, including the president, think that immigrant workers increase labor market competition, and bring down wages for everyone. Lucky, this is misguided, and driven into false information. Immigrants do not take up space in employment. So they are not taking away anything from native workers, If anything, they are providing more business for us to purchase from. People also think that terrorist are why immigrants are judge, and they are right for one part. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In The Chronicles of Narnia, there are several symbols and references to the Bible. It is written from a Christian perspective, and made Christianity known to all who was reading it. The series was also popular because even if you believe in a different religion, it was open to interpretation and is a series that is just as appealing to other groups of different faith as well. Narnia itself has symbolism written all over it, but it is up to the reader to find it and really understand the meaning of everything that happens and how it relates to the Christian faith (McGrath). C.S. Lewis in a way, re told the life of Jesus Christ, and all the tragic events that happened to him in a fun, creative way that appeal to the younger audience and maybe gave them a better picture of what Jesus went through. Still other were officially drafted by the Japanese Imperial Army and believed they would be factory workers or nurses (Hwang in Schellstede 4). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The majority of Korean women seem to have come from lower class worker and farmer families. Korean and other Asian women were assigned to lower ranking soldiers, while Japanese and European women were reserved for higher ranking officers (Watanabe). This obviously portrays the condescending attitude the Japanese had toward Koreans. Japanese military leaders formulated the concept of comfort women in order to stop soldiers from committing sexual violence towards women they might encounter. Japanese Lieutenant General Okamura Yasuji proposed that comfort women should be shipped to Shanghai to solve the problem of 223 rapes reportedly committed by troops there (Kim). One former comfort woman reported that in some places, soldiers were so desperate for some kind of outlet for their sexual desires that they had intercourse with dogs (Kim in Schellstede 32). It is estimated that over 125 million forced sexual acts took place between Japanese soldiers and comfort women in the span of only five years (Kim). The Japanese military made soldiers pay to have sex with comfort women. The prices were as follows: 1.50 yen for privates, 2 yen for non commissioned officers, 2.50 yen for junior officers, and 3 yen for senior officers (Hicks 19). • 17. Holden Caulfield Relevant Today Many consider The Catcher in the Rye to be the most poignant and popular story of adolescence in American literature. Reading reviews, examining the public reception, and uncovering depths of research would evidence this well. However, the value of the novel rests not in its popularity a simple sign of its inherent value but in its ability to resonate truth. More than merely telling a story, Salinger creates a relatable life through the actions and attitudes of his ornery adolescent character Holden Caulfield. He attributes, One of the biggest reasons I left... was because I was surrounded by phonies. They were coming in the god damn window...Mr Haas... was the phoniest bastard you ve ever seen. (pg. 12) Holden s reference to the adjective phonies is the first of many references to people who he sees as fake, superficial and lacking authenticity. Naming the principal, an adult in a position of authority as a phony coupled with a derogatory insult such as bastard indicates his negative and critical view of those who he sees as fake, particularly adults. This view makes the novel resonate with so many teens today. Moreover, his scepticism of phonies is eptimized in his description of his brother D.B he tells the reader that now [D.B] is out in Hollywood... being a prostitute. If there s one thing I hate, it s the movies, (pg.1). Through the first person narration and the language choice of the noun prostitute it is clear that Holden views Hollywood as the center of superficiality a world where nothing is genuine or real. The strong language choice of the verb hate , illustrates Holden s negative views of this aspect of the adult world. This scepticism of a lack of authenticity in the world makes the novel relatable to a contemporary audience. A Forbes article entitle Authenticity: The Way To The Millennial s Heart, outlines that authenticity can be considered to be one of the ten values regarded as most essential to youth. The need for human to consistently travel and quench their curiousity through new discoveries had been evident since early civilization. Like those myths and legends of Gulliver s Travels to appease the curiousity of people in the pastof the vast , unknwon Eart, to the real history and conquers of Marco Popl, humans have never find it enough to stop unreveling the wonders of nature and Earth to cease travelling. Especially with the advancement of and improvement of transport technologies. The environment may be destroyed in the process of building these infrastructures, like the clearing of lands for not only the hotels and shops, but also for better accessibility and transport system. This may eventually lead to overcrowding of the tourist spot. Following are the air and noise pollution, unavoidable when overpopulation occurs. This further degrades the environment. Therefore tourism should be discouraged as it can cause great harm to the environment of that particular tourist spot with the influx followed by the tourism industry. Although there are many other industries and activities, like factories wastes, which produce more carbon emmision than air travel alone, discouraging tourism (along with other sectors) can help cut down on the carbon emmision. • 37. Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market Christina Rossetti s poem Goblin Market provokes vivid imagery and illustrates the cost and consequences of rash actions. The narrative poem tells of two women going about their daily lives, one woman being steadfast in denying forbidden or dangerous choices while the other willingly risks herself due to being unable to resist temptation. Lizzie and Laura are both innocent and virginal at the beginning of the poem, but Laura s curiosity proves to be stronger than her sister s warning. Rossetti creates an uncomfortable struggle between the consequences of pursuing lust and the need to explore human desires. With language like sucked and heaved, Laura loses her youth and bloom as a result of taking the goblin men s fruit. A woman s deflowering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She decides to deny all her previous thoughts of how to deal with goblin men and instead goes in search of them. Lizzie fears that Laura will die soon, so she places a silver penny in her purse and goes to purchase fruit. Then Lizzie weighed no more better and worse; but put a silver penny in her purse, kissed Laura, crossed the heath with clumps of furze at twilight, halted by the brook: and for the first time in her life began to listen and look (609). She asks for fruit for her sister, but the goblins instead invite Lizzie to join their feast. When she refuses they suddenly change. No longer are they interesting, lively, and perhaps even cute amalgamations; suddenly they become wicked and abusive. They will not sell Lizzie the fruit to take away with her; instead they attack, jostle, and abuse her. Smashing their fruit into her face and leave bruises and torn clothing in their wake before running away and hiding; a fairly obvious rape scenario. Lizzie then goes home happy despite the pain of the ordeal and tells Laura to Come kiss me. Never mind my bruises, Hug me, kiss me, suck my juices squeezed from goblin fruits for you (612). Rossetti uses the language of sexual violence when the goblin men attack her with fruit. Laura is immediately worried that Lizzie had doomed herself in an attempt to help her. She asked if Lizzie partook for the goblin fruit and so doomed herself. Lizzie being the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
