Emerson s Self Reliance
R.W. Emerson s Self Reliance The essay has three major divisions: the importance of self reliance
(paragraphs 1 17), self reliance and the individual (paragraphs 18 32), and self reliance and society
(paragraphs 33 50). As a whole, it promotes self reliance as an ideal, even a virtue, and contrasts it
with various modes of dependence or conformity. Self Reliance Paragraphs 1 17. The Importance of
Self Reliance. Emerson begins his major work on individualism by asserting the importance of
thinking for oneself rather than meekly accepting other people s ideas. As in almost all of his work, he
promotes individual experience over the knowledge gained from books: To believe that what is true in
your private heart is true for all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The metaphor of a corpse as the receptacle of memory is a shocking—but apt—image of the individual
who is afraid of contradiction. In this vivid image of the corpse of . . . memory, Emerson asks why
people hold onto old beliefs or positions merely because they have taken these positions in the past.
Being obsessed with whether or not you remain constant in your beliefs needlessly drains energy—as
does conformity—from the act of living. After all, becoming mature involves the evolution of ideas,
which is the wellspring of creativity. It is most important to review constantly and to reevaluate past
decisions and opinions, and, if necessary, to escape from old ideas by admitting that they are faulty,
just as the biblical Joseph fled from a seducer by leaving his coat in her hands, an image particularly
potent in characterizing the pressure to conform as both seductive and degrading. Noteworthy in this
discussion on consistency is the famous phrase A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.
The term hobgoblin, which symbolizes fear of the unknown, furthers the effect produced by the corpse
of memory and reinforces Emerson s condemnation of a society that demands conformity. Citing
cultures that traditionally frown on inconsistency, Emerson points out that history s greatest thinkers
were branded as outcasts for their original ideas—and scorned as such by their peers.

The Qur An

The Noble Qur an
The Qur an, also known as Kitah Allah (the book of God) is the religious text of Muslim Scripture. It
is the revelation of God that the Prophet Muhammad received by the archangel Gabriel and written in
Arabic language. It provides Muslims with guidelines and detailed teachings for a just society, proper
human behaviors, and an egalitarian economic system. One can only truly understand the teachings of
the Qur an by exploring the life of the prophet Muhammad and grasping the important message and
tone that is held within the book.
Muhammad Abdullah, was the founder of the religion of Islam, and is considered by Muslims to be
the last Islamic prophet of God. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His dedication to spread the message of God was phenomenal and he did not give up despite his harsh
treatment. Muhammad received some good news from the city of Yathrib. The city was in need of a
leader and pledged to obey and worship Allah alone and defend him to the death. Muhammad and his
loyal followers fled to Yathrib and left the city of Mecca. Yathrib was later renamed Medinat al Nabi,
the City of the Prophet, and is now known as Medina, the City. Muhammad died in 632, having
conquered all of Arabia for Islam.
He was loved and highly respected by man Muslims. His battle for peace never ended and his message
from God continues to spread present day.
The Qur an was written over a period of twenty three years beginning on December 22 609 CE, and
concluding in 632. Muslims claim that Muhammad spoke the whole Quran to his followers and many
of them memorized the verses word by word and later wrote it down. The Qur an was divided into 114
chapters, called surah(s). These chapters are arranged according to length, which vary from 3 to 286
verses. The chapters of the Qur an also have a title that comes from a word that is written within the
text. However, some titles are not linked to the subject matter in each surah. The titles have names
such as The Cow (Surah 2), Noah (Surah 71), and The Most High (Surah 87). Each Sura contains an
important message for the people of Islam. Most Muslims claims

A P By John Updike Analysis
A P, a short story by John Updike, is about a young boy named Sammy who works at a grocery store.
On a regular but also slow day at work, Sammy can t seem to notice three young girls that walk into
the store barefoot and wearing bathing suits. He watches them closely as they go from aisle to aisle
and wonders why they are even in the store dressed the way they are and what they could possibly be
looking for. He pays attention to every detail about each of the three girls and becomes attracted to the
leader of the group, who he refers to as Queenie . As he continues to watch them, he sees his other
coworkers also eyeing the three girls. He feels bad that they had to come into the store looking the
way they are and not even notice what reaction they were receiving. ... Show more content on

As Queenie takes a dollar bill out from the hallow of her top, the store manager, Lengel, walks up to
the checkout lane and begins to reprimand the girls for the way they were dressed. Queenie stated that
she was only coming in to buy something her mom had asked her to get. Lengel continues to criticize
and tells the girls that his store isn t the beach and that next time they come to the store they are
decently dressed . After bagging up the girls can of Herring Snacks, Sammy tells Lengel he quit,
hoping to be their unsuspected hero and that the girls heard him. The girls did not hear him and
continued to walk out of the door into the parking lot. Lengel tries to make Sammy feel guilty by
telling him he will have to report to his parents but Sammy argues that the girls should not have been
humiliated the way they were. He ends up taking his apron off and walking out of the store. Sammy
then stands outside and looks back into the store and sees Lengel s dark gray face and stiff

Who Is Kitcher Inescapable Eugenics
I support the guidelines outlined by Kitcher for the use of genetic information because of their
responsible and ethical nature. I believe that future generations will benefit as a direct consequence of
these guidelines. I shall begin by defining eugenics as the study of human genetics to improve
inherited characteristics of the human race by the means of controlled selective breeding.
Chapter 8 of Kitcher s novel, Inescapable Eugenics, identifies past abuses of eugenics resulting from
inaccurate, misleading information; abuses that include dominant groups using eugenics to
discriminate against other undesirable groups.
In 1933, the Nazi s exercised eugenics as a direct way to rid individuals who were portrayed as unfit

By the conditions above, Kitcher states one main precondition. This precondition is the ability to form
a sense of self in order to set one s own personal values and to also take course of ones future path of
life . In Kitcher s point of view, the use of genetic information concerning embryos or fetuses is
permissible if and only if Fragile X, Lesch Nyhan, neurofibromatosis, and other similar severe
syndromes prevent even a modest quality of life . Under these circumstances, Kitcher justifies the
need for the use of genetic information to restore the ability to attain a decent quality of life and to
have the ability to satisfy desires that individual s value. Kitcher rejects relying on objective science, a
science that sometimes falsely labels diseases according to society views and biases. For example,
masturbation and homosexuality were falsely labeled as disorders. The outcomes of objective science
are unreliable and bring about social prejudices instead of promoting health and life .
A moral justification for genetic treatment is only as accurate as the justification of disease. In the
realms of objective science and the use of genetic testing, Kitcher argues that the basis for terminating
a pregnancy due to a severe syndrome can also lead to the basis for termination due to an undesired
sex or possibly even homosexuality. Ultimately, Kitcher supports only a minimalist approach to the
use of

Australian Lifestyles And Living Conditions
Australian s lifestyles and living conditions can largely be effect by the levels of unemployment and
employment. A labour market is a place in which employees and workers interact with each other, in
this situation the employers will seek to hire the best workers, who aim to complete a job to the
standards set by those employing them. Labour markets can be developed by three basic conditions,
these are, stronger market conditions, weaker market conditions and ideal market conditions. If there
is increased demand for labour by firms and large business, the market conditions will getting
stronger. This can be seen through unemployment rates, of which is Australia is currently around 5.7
percent and gradually decreasing. This relatively low figure displays the need for workers with an
expanding number of job opportunities along with a decrease in monthly hours worked. With more
people bring in a steady income the living conditions of these workers will increase, however one
could argue that this will also put those who are struggling to find work further behind. In future, it is
predicted that employment will continue to increase by almost 8,000 to 11,939,600 workers along
with the small increase in unemployment due to retirements. This will lead to improved living
conditions for the majority of Australians. The number of workers for businesses will increase
allowing them to expand the operations to cover a larger area. Participation rates is a measure of the

William Gass Stand The Test Of Time Analysis
The widely known idiom, Stand the test of time , is used to describe something that works well over a
period of time. In his essay, The Test of Time, William Gass explores this idiom in the scope of
literature, where he induces that the test of time is infinite and merciless. Works of art that take the test
find themselves struggling through the vicissitudes of history, along with compositions that are more
intune with the present. It is because of this gauntlet of time, where artworks outshine one another, and
mass culture, whose appeal to the masses amass more pleasure than rhetoric, that William Gass
enlightens us as to why works of art last. Good writing includes recursion: the ideas, the conscious,
and the experiences of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This new environment, is a dimension that the writer absorbs, retains, and transmits into writing.
Through each process, aspects of the environment changes, even after it is ejected onto paper, the
writer adds to it and takes out what he/she deems unnecessary. The outcome takes the test: if the
composition appeals the mind of the reader, it may live on indefinitely. However, the world that the
composition encompasses is not the world the author bases it upon. Gass gives the example of
Thoreau s Walden, events encouraged those words, events surprised them into existence, but Thoreau
made his memory, created water that never was... It was lovely to be on Walden Pond at midnight,
fluting fish, but lovelier and more lasting in the verbal than in the fishing lines, (Gass 125). Thoreau s
experiences fishing in Walden Pond is transposed onto his writing: certain aspects of that recollection
change, but the base is still there. Walden Pond may now be polluted by runoff, but Gass argues
Thoreau s crystal clear Walden Pond is still there in prose. Readers connect with the writer, and
conceives what the writer sees. Everything felt and written by the writer in the past is given to the
reader in his/her present. And as a result, the writer s composition transcends its time frame and

Biology, Pragmatism and Contradiction Essay
Biology, Pragmatism and the Question of Contradiction
ABSTRACT: In this article I present H. R. Maturana s work as an alternative that reinforces
pragmatism in the task of thinking philosophy through the evolution of biological species. I try to
demonstrate how Maturana s biology dilutes the principal argument against American Neo
pragmatism. This criticism uses the argument of performative contradiction as it has developed in the
European Neo Kantian philosophy. Thus, I begin by presenting Apel. s arguments which are contrary
the perspective of the detranscendentalization of the Post Nietzschenian philosophy. I conclude that
analytical philosophy is a fecund point of contact between Maturana s biology and American
Pragmatism, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then, I would like to use a specific kind of reasoning as the filament of this discussion. I reefer to the
argument of the performative contradiction, central in contemporary philosophical discussion.
The argument of performative contradiction had been used by Aristotle to justify the Principle of
Contradiction. As shown by Cirne Lima, contemporary philosophy has rescued this type of argument
trough the Philosophy of Robert Heiss, Austin and Apel.
In one of his papers, Apel points to the historical origins of the argument that he proposes as a method
to establish a non metaphysical ultimate foundation to knowledge and ethics. In this article, Apel
begins his argumentation by partially accepting the Münchhausian s trilemma. As has been
demonstrated by Hans Albert every ultimate foundation implies: either a) in a regression to the
infinite; b) in a logical circle in which part of the argumentation includes exactly that we would
suppose to be settled; or c) in a dogmatic interruption of the foundational regress. Apel accepts only
partially this trilemma because he believes that this difficult in the structure of ultimate foundation is
applied only to Metaphysical Philosophy and not to Post Metaphysical Philosophy. In fact, Apel
attempts to demonstrate the possibility of a non metaphysical ultimate foundation.
Apel reflects about the Falsificationism and attempts to transport into Philosophy what was supposed
to be the mechanism of

California Rail Case Study
California High Speed Rail Anil Hirani Concordia University Austin Texas Dr. Catalina Zarate April
5, 2015 Introduction and Highlights High speed rail (HSR) was generally defined as trains capable of
travelling at least 150 mph. The origin of high speed rail in California started in early 1980s, a 130
mile bullet train project between Los Angeles and San Diego was put forward as assembly bill.
Financing difficulties ultimately led the American High Speed Rail Corporation s (AHSRC)
abandonment of the project in 1984. California high speed rail authority has studied possible route

more than doubled from $ 25 billion (1999) to $ 50 55 billion (2009). The forecast distinguished two
types of market, one for interregional or long distance trips typically of over 200 miles, and a second
for intraregional or commuting trips of less than 100 miles. According to Charles River Association in
2020 the full CHSRA system would capture 32 million interregional train trips. The total ridership
would thus just exceed 42 million trips annually, based on a two tier fare system designed to
discriminate between business and non business travelers, with train tickets priced competitively at 50
% of the comparable airfare for each class. The revised business plan issued in 2009 used the same
CSI methodology but tested slightly higher fares. That plan estimated that train fares set at 83 % of
airfare would generate the greatest operating profit. At 83 % it can attract just over 40 million annual
passengers whereas at 50 % it would attract 54 million. Actions were required in the field of financial

Life Through My Eyes By Tupac Essay
Life Through My Eyes is a poem written by Tupac Shakur. Tupac was born in East Harlem,
Manhattan New York and named Lesane Parish Crooks until he later adopted the stage name Tupac
Amaru Shakur. For most of his childhood, Tupac lived with his mother and half sisters in a poverty
stricken neighbourhood. The family moved around to various homeless shelters and places of refuge
in New York City for a large portion of Tupac s life. As a result of his frequent relocation, Tupac had
very few friends which moved him to find other sources of entertainment such as writing poetry and
diary entries. Life Through My Eyes is a narrative/lyric poem that tells a story about Tupac s life. In
this poem, Tupac reveals to the reader the type of environment he was exposed to, the pain it brought
and the positive outlook he had on his situation. The poem is an illustration of the lifestyle he was

the reader. This poem is a simple rhyming 12 bar poem told from the perspective of Tupac, it s

Descriptive Essay On The Wrecking Ball
The Wrecking Ball The crowd screamed and surged as they looked up at the gleaming escalator. He
descended proudly, nodding approvingly at their expectant and trusting faces. All of their dreams and
hopes came down with him, reaching the high point as he stepped off at the very bottom. Over in the
expansive ballroom, just beneath the majestic chandelier, hang his best surprise yet. The wrecking ball
swayed slowly and gently, waiting to pick up some speed. He knew it was right there, but for now, he
would work the crowd. When they were all charged up into a great frenzy, he pointed at the toy above
their heads. Together, they would play for many days to come. He would aim, they would cheer, and
on and on it would go. He was going to swing as far and as high as possible. He had many targets. He
would hit one at a time, hard enough to knock, flatten, and obliterate it forever. Far beyond the adoring
crowd were those others who jeered in spite. He looked over and took aim at the women standing tall.
They knew him from before and were sure he was no good. He would not let them ruin his dreams,
and so he took aim directly at their heads. How dare they stand their ground against him and his
dream? He would show them who was boss after that cherished inaugural. Way over in the trenches,
the immigrants toiled for their dreams. He gave them a once over and saw a bunch of crooks. He
pulled the lever again and aimed at the busy lot. The crowd cheered yet again as the ball flew through
the air. With nowhere safe to turn, the immigrants looked up for help. The ball was getting closer, and
they prayed that help would come soon. He was getting even more frenzied, and the brothers and
sisters were next. Not feeling included had them taking pause. How well did he know them or care for
what they cherished? After pushing them away, he was mad at them now. He pulled and aimed the ball
right for their centre. First, he would scatter their faith to end their unity. He would pit one against the
other and race to a sure victory. He would call them cheaters and suppress their big turnouts. He
would bring doubt to the trusted process. He looked out to the back and saw the media in full form. If
he could just break their pens and

An Example Of A Cosmetic Dentist
A cosmetic dentist is a professional who helps improve a patient s dental health by maintaining and
creating aesthetic function and balance of the teeth. There are many services you can get from a
cosmetic dentist. Below is an example of some of those services:
Bleaching
Bleaching is one of the simplest treatments that can be used to improve the smile. It helps remove
stains that accumulate on the teeth. Discoloration can be caused by tea, coffee, cigarettes and certain
medications. Bleaching can be performed at home or in the dental office. If you choose to do the
bleaching treatment at home, then you will need to get a custom mouthpiece from the dentist.

Compare And Contrast The Spanish American War
The Spanish American war was fueled by many things, including the main idea of expanding the
manifest destiny ideology. This war differed from the civil war because it was not for freedom or
rights; it was the impact yellow journalism made on U.S citizens. Hearst and Pulitzer from New York
slandered the news of the guerilla warfare happening in Cuba. They distorted the news in their
newspapers; and this worked because at the time newspapers were the prime source of
communication. As soon as the citizens began tuning in on the newspapers, citizens felt involved in
the aid of the Cubans. They wanted to stop them from being suppressed by the Spanish. If they did
this, they would not only have a more secure investment in the coal and sugar

Characteristics And Differences Of Anton Chekov And...
Anton Chekov and Bertolt Brecht are two theatre practitioners whose work has had a significant
impact on the development of modern theatrical practices. Both of these men s contributions
revolutionised the nature of theatre at their time and their work has greatly shaped modern acting
techniques and theatre conventions. However, Brecht and Chekhov share more differences than
similarities in the way they approached theatre. These differences are strikingly evident while
examining their plays. This essay will identify these key differences between Brecht and Chekov and
will examine how the different approaches affect each practitioners work.
Firstly, one of the most notable differences between Chekhov and Brecht is the aims that they wished
to fulfil through theatre. Brecht viewed theatre as a vehicle to critique the society in which he lived in
order to inspire his audience to enact social and political change. However, Chekhov s work focused
on the creation of an authentic reality which highlights the nature of human behaviour. Highly

The rising cost of using British suppliers was also a burden, as rival retailers increasingly imported
their goods from low cost countries, but M S s belated switch to overseas suppliers undermined a core
part of its appeal to the public. Another factor was the company s refusal until 2000 to accept any
credit cards except its own store card.[13] In addition, as an ageing and famously bureaucratic
company, it was losing touch with potential younger customers, who were reluctant to shop with it. At
the same time Greenbury, who had dominated the company, had his attention diverted by the Prime
Minister s committee on directors pay.
These factors combined to plunge M S into a sudden slump, which took the company, its shareholders,
who included hundreds of thousands of small investors, and nearly all retail analysts and business
journalists, by surprise. The company s share price fell by more than two thirds, and its profits fell
from more than a billion pounds in 1997 and 1998 to £145 million in the year ended 31 March 2001.
[14]
Since the late 1990s M S has experienced serious boardroom instability and has made a number of
attempts to revive its business, with only partial success. By 1999, Online Shopping was brought in,
and the company grew with new sales of fashion clothing. In 2001, with changes in its business focus
such as taking credit cards, the introduction of the

Nursing Theorist Grid

Watson s philosophy of human caring she developed carative factors. She uses the word carative to
classify nursing and medicine. The carative factors aim at the caring process. There are 10 carative
factors each one involving a lived experience from all involved in the relationship, including the
nurse. Watson described a need for transpersonal caring relationship. This is defined as a relationship
between the nurse and patient, in which the relationship affects both. The patient and the nurse are

Keeping the environment to a calm atmosphere promotes healing. Educating nurses and nursing
students to be prepared to care for patients as a whole, as well as educating nurses on the importance
of being non judgmental, will make building a trusting relationship with the patient leisurelier. Nurses
are taught earlier in nursing school the importance of caring for a patient and keeping their
environments comfortable. Students and nurses who are taught to practice Watson s theory, gain
education that is focused on caring as its center. It is not only important for the nurse to practice what
they are taught but to also educate the patient. Watsons theory of caring applies to most nursing
research. Almost all nursing research involves the caring model. A variety of research has been
achieved with its focus on caring and nursing. Caring or not caring can have both positive and
negative consequences. Research has proven that the biogentic level, the deepest level of a caring
relationship, was in connection with true caring. This level of caring is related to the transpersonal
caring theory. Research also shows that the level of non caring, known as the biocidic level, leads to
annoyance, frustration, and non healing (Watson 2006). Health The harmony and peace within the

What are symbols and why are they viewed differently by individuals. For example, a marriage

finger, and the commitment honored before God.
In the play Othello , Desdemona and Othello married, they desired to share their life together, and
even consummated the marriage through sex, but their views of love differ. Let me explain the
opposition of how the audience may view the handkerchief as Symbols and also how the symbols
have different meaning between the characters in the play. What did the handkerchief mean to both
Othello and Desdemona. Was the handkerchief a symbol of Christianity or paganism of magic. How
did the handkerchief effect the moral nature of others as it passes between characters.
Othello gave Desdemona a handkerchief as a first gift, the handkerchief to be represented as a token
of his love and belief that he was loved by his wife. Kiss and talk meaning Desdemona did cherishes
the gift from her husband. But why did Othello believe that it took a symbol such as the handkerchief

Similarities Between Capitalism And Capitalism
Capitalism and Communism economic philocaly are only talks about ownership of individual and
collective property. In Capitalism the ownership of wealth concentrates in the hands of small group of
aristocratic people while in Communism the ownership of wealth is in hands of statesmen and
bureaucrats of the State. But, I believe that the wealth is created by god or nature. We human and
living being are the tenant on the earth, I believe that the utility of natural and human resource is more
important rather than ownership. In the concept of ownership, people tend to hold and accumulate the
wealth and property hence the utility value of the property and wealth is lost. So that economic policy
must on bases on the utility of human and natural resource not on the basis of ownership. .
Up to 1990 the ideological fight between two political economical theories (communism and
capitalism) but after the collapse of USSR the impacts was communist ideology lost its impact in the
world political system. Now the capitalism only economic philosophy rules the world but capitalism
cannot solve the problem of the world economy. After 1990, Asian crises happen than in 2008
subprime crises also happen. The gap between rich and poor is increasing day by day; poverty
reduction rate is very slow. Capitalism has some basic principle problem, living with boom and bust.
The concentration of wealth in the few hand is the biggest problem of the capitalistic system, and it is
more unutilized.

The New Liberal Arts, By Sanford J. Ungar And Robert Reich...
To discuss the value of liberal education, there should be a mutual understanding that investing in
college means to invest in oneself. Furthermore, while some consider this investment to be a critical
stepping stone to success, others dismiss it, explaining that school simply cannot prepare someone for
the real world. Sanford J. Ungar and Robert Reich explore both of these subjective values in their
essays The New Liberal Arts and College is a Ludicrous Waste of Money. Ungar, the president of
Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland, discusses why a liberal education should be sought after; he
does so by introducing common misconceptions about liberal arts and, using argumentative
persuasion, proves their insignificance. On the other hand, Reich, the former secretary of labor, argues
against the conventional belief of college being the only road to financial wellbeing; rather, he
explains why a two year education may better accommodate many college students, especially those
in need of immediate work or those that simply cannot afford a four year education. In all, although
both Reich and Ungar generally discuss liberal education, their perspectives differ when it comes to its
practicality in the current economy. Also, to express their different views about liberal arts, the authors
use contrasting tones to present their ideas to different intended audiences. In order to analyze the
given arguments, one must identify the intended audiences. Ungar explores many ideas,

Brief Essay On Merlin s Life
Merlin was born April 24th, 1885 at Plymouth, Devon. She grew up as an only child to her parents Mr.
and Mrs. Carly. She went to an all girls school 5 minutes away from her tiny but comfortable house.
Merlin always grew up as a quiet and mannered girl. Her parents never used to take her anywhere,
therefore she never had any outdoor exposure. She would literally live in the library with her best
friend Megan as they both loved to read. Merlin wanted to become a writer when she grew up but her
life changed dramatically that it didn t work out. She never attended college as her parents could not
afford it. In 1910, she was married to Christopher Rogers, at the age of 25. She got pregnant 3 years

nominated into a cooking show by a guest who ate her food and was the manager of the show Star
Food. She went into many international levels of the contest and won the highest award for the best
child cook in Devon. Ever since, she has taken on the responsibility of cooking all meals at home and
she even got a job at a restaurant. She had been proven a great cook for the skill that was passed down
to her from her mother. Then 6 years later, 18 year old Merlin had to witness her father killing her
mother. She saw the shadow of her father strangling her mother on the wall of her parents room.
Merlin always had a petrified side to her ever since because she was worried that she would get killed
too. She always has mental breakdowns when she hears anything that has to do with death, murder or
her father. Merlin has always been a very kind and respectable person, she also has a lot of manners.
This characteristic of hers has always been appreciated by everyone. After her mother s death, she

Personal Narrative-Toto, Were Not In Kansas Anymore
Toto, Were Not in Kansas Anymore
I was not surprised when I was told we were moving again. Moving from place to place was
something I accepted into my life. My mom always had a good reason to leave and start a new
adventure somewhere else. The whole move happened fairly quickly. Mom made the announcement
while we were riding in the car. My sister and I mourned over our lives we were leaving behind for the
remainder of that ride. Our brains were programmed to adapt to new things rapidly, so the mourning
stage did not last very long. I guess you could call it a survival instinct. Anyway, just after two days of
the decision, our house immediately began to be packed up. Everything we owned had to be stuffed
into the smallest amount of boxes possible. When you start to pack up your room, let alone your
whole house, you start to realize how much stuff you really have. As a nine year old sitting on my
bedroom floor, this task seemed impossible to accomplish. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

We came to Tazewell from a place in Kansas about fourteen hours away. To say the least, we stopped
at many gas stations. At every one we had the same routine to go through. We used the bathroom,
went inside, got drinks and snacks, paid for them, and got back on the road as promptly as a mother
and two kids could. Since it was such a long ride, we had to spend a night in a hotel. From the
perspective of two young kids, the hotel was like a jungle gym. Every turn we took presented a new
thing. This particular hotel had many different kinds of rooms to enjoy, though most weren t for kids.
For example, they had a swimming pool, business center, a gym, and even a spa. We went into every
room we could without getting caught and ran through the halls until Mom told us to come to bed. The
next morning we enjoyed the complimentary breakfast, got the few things we brought in, and headed

Abraham Lincoln s Political Legacy
In chapter eight of the book Abraham Lincoln s political legacy is looked at. It goes in depth on how
during the Reconstruction, the republican party essentially ruined the South for twelve years by
instituting puppet governments that constantly raised taxes but provided very few public benefits (7).
This chapter talks also talks about how the republican party stole money from the raised taxes. It
seems like the main goal for the government at this point was to become an empire under Abraham
Lincoln and his business supporters. Lincoln s own Reconstruction ideas made a mockery of
democracy (227). He believed that at least 10 percent of the southern population probably had
Unionist sympathies, and he wanted representatives of that group to be put into place by the
Republican Party as the governors, mayors, and local public officials of the Southern states after the
war (227). Abraham Lincoln seems like he is trying to get all the power he can by taking control of the
south and making them do certain duties after the war is over. Lincoln was trying to explore Central
Government according to Richard Bensel (232).
Chapter nine describes Lincoln s economic legacy (7). Lincoln was trying to get easy votes from the
majority of the people and he knew he can do that with the northern states. The south on the other
hand did not agree with his policies and the American System he wanted to establish. The only things
that were standing in his way to have complete power was, the

Causes And Disadvantages Of Tooth Discoloration
A recent survey has found that 80% of Americans aged eighteen to forty nine want their teeth whiter
(Lisa Vernon Sparks 2010). According to the American Association of Orthodontists, they have found
that 90% of their patients request tooth whitening (Mouth Healthy 2013). Many claim a brighter smile
would help boost their self confidence and it is also a cost effective way to enhance teeth (Your Smile
Becomes You). Teeth whitening has become an easy way to instantly improve appearance or first
impression on someone. Numerous toothpaste companies claim their brand of toothpaste can whiten
teeth the best, but can they really? Top toothpaste brands include Colgate Optic Whitening Toothpaste,
3D Crest White Luxe Toothpaste, AP 24, Arm Hammer Advance White Toothpaste, Sensodyne
Pronamel Whitening Toothpaste, and many more. Overall AP 24 Toothpaste has the best whitening

What is the tooth discoloration? The main causes of tooth discoloration is antibiotics, genetics, certain
foods, and aging. There are two types of tooth discoloration. They consist of internal and external
tooth discoloration. Internal tooth discoloration is caused by changes in enamel of the dentin and

The National Socialist Workers Party employed anti Semitism as an instrument to consolidate its
control over the nation by gradually increasing the emphasis on anti Semitism and gaining immense
emotional support over the course of the year. When the National Socialist Workers Party was first
founded, its focus on anti Semitism was very marginal. Nonetheless, Adolf Hitler was appointed as the

Kristallnacht, also known as the Night of Broken Glass, was a night of organized violent assault on the
Jews on November 9, 1938. Although it appeared to be a spontaneous response to a Jewish teenager s
assassination of a German ambassador in Paris, this event was, in fact, a thoroughly organized attack
on the Jews. As the name of the incident suggests, two day long violent outbreak was detrimental. Not
only were Sturmabteilung set loose to ransacking Jewish stores and homes, civilians also participated
in the series of attacks against the Jews. Over 250 synagogues were targeted; they were destructed,
burned, and vandalized. Moreover, over 7,000 businesses were shattered. Plundered Jewish owned
properties were often redistributed to German citizens. During this massive coordinated attack,
approximately 100 Jews were killed, and approximately 30,000 Jews were sent to concentration
camps, such as Dachau, Buchenwald, and Sachsenhausen. Although brutally treated, the prisoners
were released if they could prove that they were able to emigrate. However, an estimate of 1,000 Jews
ended up dying. After Kristallnacht, Jews clearly became social outcasts; they were aggressively
dissimilated from the society, marginalized from economic interactions, and persecuted from political
activities. Anti Semitism rose

IRA Cons
IRA is the stands for an Individual Retirement Account, which is another form of a savings plan. You
can open an IRA through almost any large financial institution, including banks, mutual fund
companies and brokerage firms (Where should I open an IRA). It is a savings account meant for your
retirement. It helps save money for your future so by the time you retire you will have enough to live
off of. There are different types of IRA s to pick and choose from to best fit what the individual needs
along with what they are eligible for as well. The main 3 are Traditional, SEP (Simplified Employee
Pension), and Roth (Internet Retirement Allowance). All of these IRAs have different requirements
and but the one thing they have in common ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This IRA is meant for business owners to help contribute toward their employees retirement as well as
their own retirement as well (SEP Plan FAQs). The amount that employers can deposit into this IRA is
up to 15% (Internet Retirement Allowance). The benefits of this IRA are less responsibility, low fees,
tax deferred and tax deductible (Simplified Employee Pension Plans Pros and Cons). The employee
does not have a lot of responsibility because he or she does not have to put the money into the
retirement account on his or her own; the employer does it directly. While this is helpful to the
employee, the employer gets to deduct the contributions that they make into the fund from their taxes
creating an incentive for them (Simplified Employee Pension Plans Pros and Cons). SEP accounts
have reasonable fees; they re not over the top. The last benefit of a SEP IRA is the money you make in
the retirement account from investments is allowed to grow tax free; you do not have to worry about
taxes before you retire (Simplified Employee Pension Plans Pros and Cons). The disadvantages are
contributions and no guarantees (Simplified Employee Pension Plans Pros and Cons). The bad thing
about contributions is that the employee does not get a say on how much they want to deposit into
their SEP account; the employer decides for them. The last thing that is a con is that there could be no
requirements for contributions; they employer can pick and chose when they want to make a
contribution to the employees account (Simplified Employee Pension Plans Pros and Cons). The SEP
IRA is good for employees who do not want the responsibility for putting money into their retirement
account. It is a risky one since the employee will be depending on the employer to do their part of the
contribution. It is important to make sure you have a good employer if you do decide to choose to go

Podcast 1 Response Essay
Podcast 1 Response: How to be More Productive In my life I find it very easy to be productive if you
stay motivated and focused on the tasks at hand (as mentioned in the podcast); however, I find it very
easy to get distracted by others, televisions, or even social media. One connection I can make involves
my work with a lab group I was assigned to work with during a summer program. Our task was to
complete a final project on the basis of plant pigment labs. Now reflecting on the work I did with my
group, I realized that we all followed many of the productivity tips that Charles Duhigg mentioned
such as including everyone equally in the team, socializing sparingly, creating trust with one another,
and setting goals to be reached. My group ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, my assumption was the complete opposite and I now know from the podcasts that people who
work on multiple tasks at the same time that are different from each other are more productive because
different tasks lead to learning which assigns values to the tasks. When someone has meaning for the
tasks at hand then he or she will be more productive. Another misconception that I believed was that
productivity and efficiency were the same thing, but from the podcast I know they are different.
Productivity involves being more alert with one s surroundings and focusing on certain tasks to
accomplish instead of just doing things mindlessly in a quick manner. Something I assumed would
increase productivity but was not sure until I listened to the podcast was reflection on the past. My
APUSH teacher Mr. Lee gave my class several times to reflect because he said we never actually do
so on our own time. Now I know from the podcast that reflecting allows us to see if we are doing
meaningful things (having meaning associated with tasks leads to productivity) and if not then we can
adjust our lives to be more meaningful hence increasing

Taking a Look at the Renaissance
Renaissance is a generally accepted name for the era of great change in culture, art, and architecture
which took place in the fifteenth and sixteenth century Italy, and then left its mark on the culture of the
whole of Europe. During the Renaissance there was a significant shift of universally recognized
values. They began to appreciate and recognize the creative possibilities of a human mind, which
entailed a lot of consequences. One of them was the spectacular development of the architecture, and
the new role of architecture and the architect in society. New forms of secular buildings such as villas,
palaces, houses and town halls were exemplified, but most of building activity was centered on sacred
buildings like the famed Tempietto by Donatano Bramante. Tempietto is a prime example of
Renaissance architecture because not only it represents key characteristics like the simplicity of the
composition, symmetry within structure, but it also resurrects precedents of Christian and pagan origin
which were a baseline for many designs during that period.
For many reasons the Renaissance began in Italy. In addition to the fact that there existed a rich artistic
tradition, Italy was the richest country in Europe at that time. Cities were in bloom, rich merchants and
bankers wanted to glorify their names ordering portraits, building magnificent palaces, decorating
family chapels. And although the mere presence of such a generous patronage did not have to
guarantee the creation of

Sports Betting Scandal
Sports Betting Scandal Since their very beginning, sports have been immersed in society and often
times gambled on. This gambling increased with the rising popularity of college sports, and came to
the forefront through scandals involving illegal betting and point shaving. One such scandal occurred
just down the road from St. Francis de Sales High School at the University of Toledo. In between the
fall of 2003 and winter of 2006, two gamblers from Detroit bribed athletes from both the University of
Toledo basketball and football teams to shave points while they placed bets totaling $407,500 on the
games. The two gamblers involved were Ghazi Gary Manni and Mitchell Karam, Detroit businessmen

consequences were justified and fair for the crimes the players and gamblers committed, although
Manni s could have been more lengthy. This scandal helped bring awareness back to illegal betting in
college sports, which many thought had died down. Specifically, this scandal hurt the image of UT

HISTORY OF TCM REFLEXOLOGY THROUGHOUT TIME
Ancient China has a history of foot therapy; in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) the feet have
held symbolical importance for both spiritual and physical well being for many centuries in the Orient.
Many Civilizations have practiced Reflexology. Evidence of this has been documented on four
continents, Asia, Europe, Africa and North America. The most common theory is that the earliest form
of reflexology originated in China as much as 5,000 years ago. Part of Traditional Chinese Medicine
(TCM), Chinese Reflexology is the ancient art of working pressure points on the feet, hands and ears
that correspond to different parts of the body. The Chinese are also known to have used Reflexology in
conjunction with acupuncture. Dr. Wong Wei, a Chinese Doctor in the fourth century BC evidently
used to position acupuncture needles in the patient s bodies and then apply very firm pressure with his
thumbs to the soles of their feet. This pressure was maintained for several minutes until the desired
therapeutic effects were achieved. Dr. Wong Wei maintained that as the pressure was applied and held
healing energy was released into the patient s body.
Reflexology traveled across India, Japan, Asia and China. Many changes took place in Zone Therapy
or Reflexology. Early evidence of Chinese Reflexology dates back to

Atticus says, There s something in our world that makes men lose their heads they couldn t be fair if
they tried. In our courts, when it s a white man s word against a black man s, the white man always

law isn t a pure realm free of the prejudices that plague everyday life it s subject to the same problems
as society at large. Whether it be social or economic superiority, the belief that individuals should be
treated differently according to their racial designation is a perfect example of narrow mindedness, a
learned response. Lack of diversity and interaction with people of other races only strengthens this
idea, which is why education is vital in a just society. An appreciation of cultural diversity and social
equality goes hand in hand, and the art of being open minded can only be learned from education.
Education teaches you to seek first to understand, then to be understood. Each individual (black or
white) is different in their thinking and their motivation, and if you have an open mind, one of the
most tremendous results of that trait will be your ability to perpetually seek and discover new
opportunities, new ideas, and new approaches to solving the challenges you face. Moral education is

The Competition Of The Construction Building Supply Industry
The competition in the construction building supply industry is very strong on a local and regional
level, and moderate on a national level. Sales in 2014 of the top fifty eight U.S. building material
suppliers who are similar to BLDR in product offerings totaled 18.7 billion dollars (Webb, 2015b),
and BLDR s share of this is over thirty percent. BLDR s closest competitor, BMC STOCK Holdings,
Inc. (BMC) is only half its size, however holds vast national presence and is closest in product
offerings, making BMC BLDR s chief competitor. 84 Lumber Company is within BMC s sale volume,
however is regionally concentrated towards Eastern U.S. markets. Finally, US LBM Holdings, LLC
holds national presence, however utilizes a hands off approach from corporate, by marketing multiple
local and regional storefront brands, which weakens strategic initiatives at a national level. Table 1
compares BLDR s three main competitors.
Currently, competition for providing pre cut framing systems is relatively low. BLDR is into its

evolution in the story.
There are six main characters who play a role in the development of the story. These six characters are
Scout Finch, Jem Finch, Atticus, Tom Robinson, Calpurnia and Boo Radley. Scout Finch is the

The expedition starts with introducing Maycomb county to the reader. Next the book introduces the
reader to the Finch family. This is when Scout, Jem and Atticus become central characters. After this
the book tells the reader about the Ewell family, they are not such good news. Around the same time
Scout, Jem and Dill (their friend) play the Boo Radley game. Conflicts arise in the story when Scout,
Jem and Dill start to annoy Boo Radley, their quiet neighbor. Action picks up when Tom Robinson
(black man) is arrested for allegedly beating Mayella Ewell (white woman). Atticus Finch is a lawyer
in town and he takes on Tom Robinson s case. To Kill a Mockingbird reaches a climax when Tom
Robinson is wrongly convicted of the crime. Atticus made the jury stay out for a while to think about
their decision. Ultimately Tom gets convicted, he tried to escape prison but he got shot by the guards.
This is a turning point in the story because a lot of people are mad at Atticus, specifically Bob Ewell.

The Impact Of Technological Development On The Growth And...
Distribution had always been costly process for the tourism industry until technology was introduced.
Technological development in the tourism industry of distribution systems consists of three main
stages from the evolution and development of airline reservation systems (ARS), computer reservation
systems such as SABRE and global distribution systems (GDS) that are now currently in place. The
roles of these distributors and stages will be assessed. The impacts of the growth and development of
distribution via the internet causes global distribution system companies to create changes in their
business models to adapt to the evolution of new technology.
Before any technological systems, airlines took the initiative to create systems to solve issues such as
informing possible passengers about whether or not they are able to book a seat. This process was
very slow and required a lot of work to be done manually, bookings were usually made through
telegrams, letters or even over the phone. The lack of direct communication between customers and
airlines caused problems with over booking seats and under booking seats for a certain flight
(Copeland, D and Mckenney, J. 1988). This made office jobs at airlines more labour intensive and
stressful. Neither efficient for the customer nor the service provider. Therefore airlines created the card
system, each airline office in each city would have a boards on the wall for particular flights which

Analysis Of Bullet In The Brain
A man faced with his fatality will quiver and beg for mercy. Anders, from Bullet in the Brain , is
unique in that he faces death with laughter and sarcasm. The short story by Tobias Wolff portrays a
man named Anders being shot during a bank robbery after ignoring the threats of the robbers (In Text
Cite). Through descriptions of the protagonist and his speech with other characters, Anders shows
signs of schizophrenia. Before the shooting, the narrator describes Anders and his interactions with
other people at the bank. In the first paragraph, Anders looks at the two women in front of him with a
murderous temper (In Text Cite) and is described as criticizing books with savagery (In Text Cite).
Anders is also angry with the girl in front of him when she whines about the teller closing their
window, telling her she is overdramatic. Most people would be slightly annoyed with these
interactions, but murder would never come to mind.
The robbers and their interaction further support the idea that Anders is crazy. When the robbers enter
the bank, they wearing blue business suits. Blue often represents sadness, which is a common
symptom burdened upon those with schizophrenia. When the robbers begin threatening the hostages,
Anders tells the woman, Great script, eh? (In Text Cite). This line shows an inappropriate response to
the threat presented. Normal individuals would panic at the sight of a gun, but Anders seems to think
the robbery is a joke or a game. Anders also

The Amphitheater Named After The Flavian Dynasty
The Flavian amphitheater named after the Flavian dynasty emperors who built it or better known as
The Colosseum was a large arena built in 80 C.E. and used for gladiatorial games, mock sea
battles, theater plays, and public executions until its fall to christianity in 404 C.E. It was called the
Colosseum for the great statue of Nero nearby named Colossus. The Colosseum, also known as the
flavian amphitheater was built of travertine stone from the quarries of Albulae. The massive stone
blocks that made up a good portion of the seating, arena, and the massive stone columns that
supported the magnificent structure were moved to Rome on a road constructed specifically for that
purpose. The seating consisted of 45,000 seats, arranged in an oval surrounding the arena. It also had
5,000 standing places for the Roman public. It had 80 arched entrances all around the arena, with 4 of
them being non accessible to the public at the minor and major axises. The entrances at the major axis
provided direct access to the arena. The minor axis entrances provided access to the special seating
boxes for the emperor, empress and other very important people. It measured 527 meters in
circumference and its diameters were 189 and 156 meters, with the height of the structure being 48
meters high. (romancolosseum.org) The seating nearest to the arena was reserved for very important
Romans like the emperor the vestal virgins and priests. The emperor sat in the north end of the arena

Benefits Of The TTC In Toronto
TTC, standing for Toronto Transit Commission is a public transport agency which benefits and
transports 2.7 million people daily by using different vehicles and services in Toronto, Ontario,
Canada. Some citizens of Toronto argue how the TTC pollutes and makes the environment a horrid
and dreadful place, while it is actually the opposite because the TTC can help reduce the
environmental damage in the city, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and benefit Toronto to make it a
safer, significant, and a convenient city.
The TTC uses many vehicles to support it, such as buses, subways, streetcars, and paratransit services
to help people who need to go places in Toronto. Specifically, the TTC drives 2.7 million people daily.
Those people include adults, elderly, and children. The TTC has a blue seating called the Priority
Seating opposed to the ones who have disabilities, the elderly, and pregnant women. The TTC is also
very helpful and useful to many other people especially for the ones who do not have any vehicles or
any type of transportation.
Unfortunately, the TTC is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without it, the TTC will be significantly dirtier, it will also emit more pollution followed by additional
greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere than there already is. To prevent such pollution people
should start by using the TTC because it will reduce the number of trips by car which equals less
greenhouse gas emissions. The atmospheric pollutants and gases caused by fuel being burnt are
formed into a gas like texture called smog. The Ontario Medical Association has calculated that 1 900
people die each year in the province because of the smog exposure. Therefore, the TTC is trying to
make Toronto a cleaner place by reducing and preventing the environmental damage in the city. By
using the TTC, it can also save 70 000 of fuel and remove tonnes of pollutants effectively from the
atmosphere every

The Cloud Of Cloud Computing Essay
1.1 Project Background Cloud computing have revolutionized life as we know it; it allows people to
store, manage, and access their data by using a network of remote servers which are hosted on the
internet rather than using a local server or own hardware. A recent study conducted by KPMG found
that 81% of businesses were either evaluating cloud services, planned a cloud implementation or had
already implemented a cloud strategy [1]. Organizations tend to use the cloud to reduce costs and
improve efficiency. Cloud is not a commodity, some people think that it comes out of the sky, while in
fact it comes from physical hardware inside brick and mortar facilities which are connected to
hundreds of miles by networking cables. We can conclude from cloud computing that it is a significant
technology which can be utilized nowadays and in the coming future to make everything easy. The
project is to provide a web service using cloud computing, there are many web services, but all the
web services need a platform to run on it which in this case is the virtual machine on cloud server.
This will help users to access their data from any device or machine instead of using hard drives. My
target in this project is to prove that cloud can be used for different kind of applications and purposes.
An example of cloud web services is enabling the user to create a virtual machine on the cloud server
of the web service provider. A virtual machine can be created and customized by the web service

Microcredit and Poverty Alleviation Essay example
Microcredit is a financial innovation that is considered to have originated with the Grameen Bank in
Bangladesh, and Muhammad Yunus is its founder. This Bank offers collateral free loan to rural poor
women. Women are afforded the opportunity of education and access to health care, reduced
unemployment, so that their families and communities prosper. The future of the Microcredit is very
bright now because it plays an important role for the development of poor families. This system is
being introduced in both developing and developed countries of the world. The relationship between
Muhammad Yunus s Grameen bank and women s lives is important because he helps poor women to

Muhammad Yunus has had phenomenal success helping people lift themselves out of poverty in rural
Bangladesh by providing them with credit without requiring collateral. According to his microfinance
theory is largely based on mutual trust, the enterprise, and accountability of millions of women
villagers. The popularity of the work of Muhammad Yunus is known as a pioneered the world famous
microcredit financial institution, Grameen Bank. One interesting goal Yunus set for it was to have at
least half the borrowers be female. Yunus had a dream to end extreme poverty and his most priority to
help poor women to get loans who have nothing because the way they can become independent and
economically succeed. He has interviewed Sufiya Begum in Jobra village to know about her bamboo
stools business. Therefore he asked her that how much you profited from bamboo stools. She said five
taka and fifty poysha (about 25 cents) (Yunus 47). Because she bought it with five taka (about 23
cents) from middlemen and sell back to him with five taka and fifty poysha (25 cents). According to
Yunus quote He shocked because Sufiya earned two cents per day that is not enough for her family s
foods, cloths and other expenses. He lent $27 out of his own pocket to a group of poor craftsmen in
the Jobra village including Sufiya Begum since then he has developed the Grameen Bank. This was a
struggle given the low social status of women in

The First Era Of Globalization During The Period Ca
Globalization is defined as the interaction between people, and governments from different nations,
driven by trade and aided by technology. (Globalization, 2014) In this paper, I will demonstrate how
the first era of globalization began during the period ca.1450 1650. The use of ocean going vessels in
1450, utilizing magnetic compasses marked the beginning of globalization. Europeans had a
geographic advantage that enabled them to accumulate wealth from both the slave trade and natural
resources. Their use of ocean going ships equipped with magnetic compasses enabled them to travel
further, faster. Voyages to discover and conquer new lands provided opportunities to open the door to
trading resources with other nations. Resources such as metal, spices and cloth were in demand
worldwide. Discovery of such resources and knowledge of their value drove nations to construct trade
routes. One example is the mining of gold and silver from1500 1600, which were key resources that
contributed to the wealth of the Europeans. However, due to the increased volume of gold being
mined, it lost value resulting in inflation. (Brown, 2012, p. 198) Africa no longer had a market for
their gold, which meant that the only marketable asset they had for trade, were their people. The need
for slaves to provide manual labor was global. African princes and chiefs sold slaves to other nations
as a means to buy guns, cloth, iron and other items unavailable to them. Transatlantic slave trade,

What Is Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs
Theory One of the many interesting things Maslow noticed while he worked with monkeys early in
his career, was that some needs take precedence over others. For example, if you are hungry and
thirsty, you will tend to try to take care of the thirst first. After all, you can do without food for weeks,
but you can only do without water for a couple of days! Thirst is a stronger need than hunger.
Likewise, if you are very very thirsty, but someone has put a choke hold on you and you can t breath,
which is more important? The need to breathe, of course. On the other hand, sex is less powerful than
any of these. Let s face it, you won t die if you don t get it! Maslow took this idea and created his now
famous hierarchy of needs. Beyond ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of the preceding four levels he calls deficit needs, or D needs. If you don t have enough of
something i.e. you have a deficit you feel the need. But if you get all you need, you feel nothing at all!
In other words, they cease to be motivating. As the old blues song goes, you don t miss your water till
your well runs dry! He also talks about these levels in terms of homeostasis. Homeostasis is the
principle by which your furnace thermostat operates: When it gets too cold, it switches the heat on;
When it gets too hot, it switches the heat off. In the same way, your body, when it lacks a certain
substance, develops a hunger for it; When it gets enough of it, then the hunger stops. Maslow simply
extends the homeostatic principle to needs, such as safety, belonging, and esteem, that we don t
ordinarily think of in these terms. Maslow sees all these needs as essentially survival needs. Even love
and esteem are needed for the maintenance of health. He says we all have these needs built in to us
genetically, like instincts. In fact, he calls them instinctoid instinct like needs. In terms of overall
development, we move through these levels a bit like stages. As newborns, our focus (if not our entire
set of needs) is on the physiological. Soon, we begin to recognize that we need to be safe. Soon after
that, we crave attention and affection. A bit later, we look for self esteem. Mind you, this is in

The Pros And Cons Of Guerilla Warfare
Insurgency must not be jumbled up with terrorism as they overlap somehow but are totally different
entities. These two such concepts probably lead to more confusion than any other thing. Guerilla
warfare and insurgencies are often inferred to be similar with terrorism. One rationale for this is that
insurgencies has similar targets as that of terrorism. However, if we examine specific differences, a
prime difference is that an insurgency is a movement against the authorities with specific aim. Its
motive is to challenge the government regarding control of certain parts of its territory and for that
they require some support of the population, on the contrary, a terror group does not require active
support of the population. It just works for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a creative force, not an antagonistic one in some scenarios. If their approach is to improve the
spaces that belong to all of us, then that is the positive aspect of such movements. Taking a very small
example like installing temporary seating at bus stops, for people who are fed up of waiting for bus,
after their jobs and stay standing. When the authorities take no step to accommodate them, that s when
the guerillas come in. I won t naively support such acts as profound, or say that they have the strength
to solve the deep rooted problems in our cities, but the spirit of the guerilla urbanists to fix small
issues in appreciable ways should be appreciated. These are the acts that lay the foundation of a
reformatory movement, for the betterment of locales. They change the direction of our vision towards
the city. Guerrilla urbanists are not given the reform projects by the government like turning roads into
sidewalks and setting up shop in vacant buildings, which is illegal in most cities. Gradually though,
some governments have approved these projects after witnessing the positive public reception they
gain. Others have gone further and initiated such projects themselves, one of the most famous
examples is pedestrianizing Times Square in New York

Course materials will also engage with debates over the role of the Harm Principle, Moralism and
Paternalism, especially in the context of Criminal Law. In order to bring these often very abstract
issues to life, we will examine a selection of high profile and prominent decisions (mainly from
Canadian courts, and frequently from the Supreme Court of Canada) which can be said to have
changed the law, and in which the judges of the court have disagreed among themselves. Cases to be
covered concern controversial issues such as Battered Woman Syndrome, Euthanasia/ Physician
Assisted Suicide, Hate Speech, Marijuana Use, Obscenity/ Pornography, Prostitution, or topics in
human rights (i.e., freedom of expression, national security and the right not to be tortured, or
religious freedom). Analysis of cases will include exploration and examination of the philosophical
aspects of crucial terms and concepts that appear in Canadian law, such as in the Criminal Code of
Canada, or in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. PLEASE NOTE: Philosophical theories
of punishment, such as deterrence (based on the ethical theory of utilitarianism), retributivism (based
on the ethical theory of deontology), denunciation, and restorative justice are covered
comprehensively in a different course, PHL 449, Philosophy of Punishment. Throughout the course,
there will be an iterative process for learning, one in which philosophical theories and

As a whole, it promotes self reliance as an ideal, even a virtue, and contrasts it with various modes of dependence or conformity. Self Reliance Paragraphs 1 17. The Importance of Self Reliance. Emerson begins his major work on individualism by asserting the importance of thinking for oneself rather than meekly accepting other people s ideas. As in almost all of his work, he promotes individual experience over the knowledge gained from books: To believe that what is true in your private heart is true for all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The metaphor of a corpse as the receptacle of memory is a shocking—but apt—image of the individual who is afraid of contradiction. In this vivid image of the corpse of . . . memory, Emerson asks why people hold onto old beliefs or positions merely because they have taken these positions in the past. Being obsessed with whether or not you remain constant in your beliefs needlessly drains energy—as does conformity—from the act of living. After all, becoming mature involves the evolution of ideas, which is the wellspring of creativity. It is most important to review constantly and to reevaluate past decisions and opinions, and, if necessary, to escape from old ideas by admitting that they are faulty, just as the biblical Joseph fled from a seducer by leaving his coat in her hands, an image particularly potent in characterizing the pressure to conform as both seductive and degrading. Noteworthy in this discussion on consistency is the famous phrase A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds. The term hobgoblin, which symbolizes fear of the unknown, furthers the effect produced by the corpse of memory and reinforces Emerson s condemnation of a society that demands conformity. Citing cultures that traditionally frown on inconsistency, Emerson points out that history s greatest thinkers were branded as outcasts for their original ideas—and scorned as such by their peers. ... I believe that future generations will benefit as a direct consequence of these guidelines. Chapter 8 of Kitcher s novel, Inescapable Eugenics, identifies past abuses of eugenics resulting from inaccurate, misleading information; abuses that include dominant groups using eugenics to discriminate against other undesirable groups. Under these circumstances, Kitcher justifies the need for the use of genetic information to restore the ability to attain a decent quality of life and to have the ability to satisfy desires that individual s value. Kitcher rejects relying on objective science, a science that sometimes falsely labels diseases according to society views and biases. For example, masturbation and homosexuality were falsely labeled as disorders. The outcomes of objective science are unreliable and bring about social prejudices instead of promoting health and life . A moral justification for genetic treatment is only as accurate as the justification of disease. A labour market is a place in which employees and workers interact with each other, in this situation the employers will seek to hire the best workers, who aim to complete a job to the standards set by those employing them. Labour markets can be developed by three basic conditions, these are, stronger market conditions, weaker market conditions and ideal market conditions. If there is increased demand for labour by firms and large business, the market conditions will getting stronger. This can be seen through unemployment rates, of which is Australia is currently around 5.7 percent and gradually decreasing. This relatively low figure displays the need for workers with an expanding number of job opportunities along with a decrease in monthly hours worked. With more people bring in a steady income the living conditions of these workers will increase, however one could argue that this will also put those who are struggling to find work further behind. In future, it is predicted that employment will continue to increase by almost 8,000 to 11,939,600 workers along with the small increase in unemployment due to retirements. I reefer to the argument of the performative contradiction, central in contemporary philosophical discussion. The argument of performative contradiction had been used by Aristotle to justify the Principle of Contradiction. As shown by Cirne Lima, contemporary philosophy has rescued this type of argument trough the Philosophy of Robert Heiss, Austin and Apel. In one of his papers, Apel points to the historical origins of the argument that he proposes as a method to establish a non metaphysical ultimate foundation to knowledge and ethics. In this article, Apel begins his argumentation by partially accepting the Münchhausian s trilemma. As has been demonstrated by Hans Albert every ultimate foundation implies: either a) in a regression to the infinite; b) in a logical circle in which part of the argumentation includes exactly that we would suppose to be settled; or c) in a dogmatic interruption of the foundational regress. Apel accepts only partially this trilemma because he believes that this difficult in the structure of ultimate foundation is applied only to Metaphysical Philosophy and not to Post Metaphysical Philosophy. To discuss the value of liberal education, there should be a mutual understanding that investing in college means to invest in oneself. Furthermore, while some consider this investment to be a critical stepping stone to success, others dismiss it, explaining that school simply cannot prepare someone for the real world. Sanford J. Ungar and Robert Reich explore both of these subjective values in their essays The New Liberal Arts and College is a Ludicrous Waste of Money. Ungar, the president of Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland, discusses why a liberal education should be sought after; he does so by introducing common misconceptions about liberal arts and, using argumentative persuasion, proves their insignificance. On the other hand, Reich, the former secretary of labor, argues against the conventional belief of college being the only road to financial wellbeing; rather, he explains why a two year education may better accommodate many college students, especially those in need of immediate work or those that simply cannot afford a four year education. In all, although both Reich and Ungar generally discuss liberal education, their perspectives differ when it comes to its practicality in the current economy. • 23. Personal Narrative-Toto, Were Not In Kansas Anymore Toto, Were Not in Kansas Anymore I was not surprised when I was told we were moving again. Moving from place to place was something I accepted into my life. My mom always had a good reason to leave and start a new adventure somewhere else. The whole move happened fairly quickly. Mom made the announcement while we were riding in the car. My sister and I mourned over our lives we were leaving behind for the remainder of that ride. Our brains were programmed to adapt to new things rapidly, so the mourning stage did not last very long. I guess you could call it a survival instinct. Anyway, just after two days of the decision, our house immediately began to be packed up. Everything we owned had to be stuffed into the smallest amount of boxes possible. When you start to pack up your room, let alone your whole house, you start to realize how much stuff you really have. Since it was such a long ride, we had to spend a night in a hotel. From the perspective of two young kids, the hotel was like a jungle gym. Every turn we took presented a new thing. This particular hotel had many different kinds of rooms to enjoy, though most weren t for kids. For example, they had a swimming pool, business center, a gym, and even a spa. • 24. Abraham Lincoln s Political Legacy In chapter eight of the book Abraham Lincoln s political legacy is looked at. It goes in depth on how during the Reconstruction, the republican party essentially ruined the South for twelve years by instituting puppet governments that constantly raised taxes but provided very few public benefits (7). This chapter talks also talks about how the republican party stole money from the raised taxes. It seems like the main goal for the government at this point was to become an empire under Abraham Lincoln and his business supporters. Lincoln s own Reconstruction ideas made a mockery of democracy (227). He believed that at least 10 percent of the southern population probably had Unionist sympathies, and he wanted representatives of that group to be put into place by the Republican Party as the governors, mayors, and local public officials of the Southern states after the war (227). Abraham Lincoln seems like he is trying to get all the power he can by taking control of the south and making them do certain duties after the war is over. Lincoln was trying to explore Central Government according to Richard Bensel (232). Chapter nine describes Lincoln s economic legacy (7). Lincoln was trying to get easy votes from the majority of the people and he knew he can do that with the northern states. The south on the other hand did not agree with his policies and the American System he wanted to establish. The only things that were standing in his way to have complete power was, the ... As the name of the incident suggests, two day long violent outbreak was detrimental. Not only were Sturmabteilung set loose to ransacking Jewish stores and homes, civilians also participated in the series of attacks against the Jews. Over 250 synagogues were targeted; they were destructed, burned, and vandalized. Moreover, over 7,000 businesses were shattered. Plundered Jewish owned properties were often redistributed to German citizens. During this massive coordinated attack, approximately 100 Jews were killed, and approximately 30,000 Jews were sent to concentration camps, such as Dachau, Buchenwald, and Sachsenhausen. Although brutally treated, the prisoners were released if they could prove that they were able to emigrate. However, an estimate of 1,000 Jews ended up dying. The employee does not have a lot of responsibility because he or she does not have to put the money into the retirement account on his or her own; the employer does it directly. While this is helpful to the employee, the employer gets to deduct the contributions that they make into the fund from their taxes creating an incentive for them (Simplified Employee Pension Plans Pros and Cons). SEP accounts have reasonable fees; they re not over the top. The last benefit of a SEP IRA is the money you make in the retirement account from investments is allowed to grow tax free; you do not have to worry about taxes before you retire (Simplified Employee Pension Plans Pros and Cons). The disadvantages are contributions and no guarantees (Simplified Employee Pension Plans Pros and Cons). • 31. Taking a Look at the Renaissance Renaissance is a generally accepted name for the era of great change in culture, art, and architecture which took place in the fifteenth and sixteenth century Italy, and then left its mark on the culture of the whole of Europe. During the Renaissance there was a significant shift of universally recognized values. They began to appreciate and recognize the creative possibilities of a human mind, which entailed a lot of consequences. One of them was the spectacular development of the architecture, and the new role of architecture and the architect in society. New forms of secular buildings such as villas, palaces, houses and town halls were exemplified, but most of building activity was centered on sacred buildings like the famed Tempietto by Donatano Bramante. Tempietto is a prime example of Renaissance architecture because not only it represents key characteristics like the simplicity of the composition, symmetry within structure, but it also resurrects precedents of Christian and pagan origin which were a baseline for many designs during that period. For many reasons the Renaissance began in Italy. In addition to the fact that there existed a rich artistic tradition, Italy was the richest country in Europe at that time. Cities were in bloom, rich merchants and bankers wanted to glorify their names ordering portraits, building magnificent palaces, decorating family chapels. And although the mere presence of such a generous patronage did not have to guarantee the creation of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The impacts of the growth and development of distribution via the internet causes global distribution system companies to create changes in their business models to adapt to the evolution of new technology. Before any technological systems, airlines took the initiative to create systems to solve issues such as informing possible passengers about whether or not they are able to book a seat. This process was very slow and required a lot of work to be done manually, bookings were usually made through telegrams, letters or even over the phone. The lack of direct communication between customers and airlines caused problems with over booking seats and under booking seats for a certain flight (Copeland, D and Mckenney, J. 1988). The massive stone blocks that made up a good portion of the seating, arena, and the massive stone columns that supported the magnificent structure were moved to Rome on a road constructed specifically for that purpose. The seating consisted of 45,000 seats, arranged in an oval surrounding the arena. It also had 5,000 standing places for the Roman public. It had 80 arched entrances all around the arena, with 4 of them being non accessible to the public at the minor and major axises. The entrances at the major axis provided direct access to the arena. The minor axis entrances provided access to the special seating boxes for the emperor, empress and other very important people. It measured 527 meters in circumference and its diameters were 189 and 156 meters, with the height of the structure being 48 meters high. (romancolosseum.org) The seating nearest to the arena was reserved for very important Romans like the emperor the vestal virgins and priests. The emperor sat in the north end of the arena and the ... • 44. Benefits Of The TTC In Toronto TTC, standing for Toronto Transit Commission is a public transport agency which benefits and transports 2.7 million people daily by using different vehicles and services in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Some citizens of Toronto argue how the TTC pollutes and makes the environment a horrid and dreadful place, while it is actually the opposite because the TTC can help reduce the environmental damage in the city, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and benefit Toronto to make it a safer, significant, and a convenient city. The TTC uses many vehicles to support it, such as buses, subways, streetcars, and paratransit services to help people who need to go places in Toronto. Specifically, the TTC drives 2.7 million people daily. Those people include adults, elderly, and children. The TTC has a blue seating called the Priority Seating opposed to the ones who have disabilities, the elderly, and pregnant women. The TTC is also very helpful and useful to many other people especially for the ones who do not have any vehicles or any type of transportation. Unfortunately, the TTC is ... Without it, the TTC will be significantly dirtier, it will also emit more pollution followed by additional greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere than there already is. To prevent such pollution people should start by using the TTC because it will reduce the number of trips by car which equals less greenhouse gas emissions. The atmospheric pollutants and gases caused by fuel being burnt are formed into a gas like texture called smog. The Ontario Medical Association has calculated that 1 900 people die each year in the province because of the smog exposure. Therefore, the TTC is trying to make Toronto a cleaner place by reducing and preventing the environmental damage in the city. By using the TTC, it can also save 70 000 of fuel and remove tonnes of pollutants effectively from the atmosphere every ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Cloud Of Cloud Computing Essay 1.1 Project Background Cloud computing have revolutionized life as we know it; it allows people to store, manage, and access their data by using a network of remote servers which are hosted on the internet rather than using a local server or own hardware. A recent study conducted by KPMG found that 81% of businesses were either evaluating cloud services, planned a cloud implementation or had already implemented a cloud strategy [1]. Organizations tend to use the cloud to reduce costs and improve efficiency. Cloud is not a commodity, some people think that it comes out of the sky, while in fact it comes from physical hardware inside brick and mortar facilities which are connected to hundreds of miles by networking cables. We can conclude from cloud computing that it is a significant technology which can be utilized nowadays and in the coming future to make everything easy. The project is to provide a web service using cloud computing, there are many web services, but all the web services need a platform to run on it which in this case is the virtual machine on cloud server. This will help users to access their data from any device or machine instead of using hard drives. My target in this project is to prove that cloud can be used for different kind of applications and purposes. An example of cloud web services is enabling the user to create a virtual machine on the cloud server of the web service provider. A virtual machine can be created and customized by the web service ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. The First Era Of Globalization During The Period Ca Globalization is defined as the interaction between people, and governments from different nations, driven by trade and aided by technology. (Globalization, 2014) In this paper, I will demonstrate how the first era of globalization began during the period ca.1450 1650. The use of ocean going vessels in 1450, utilizing magnetic compasses marked the beginning of globalization. Europeans had a geographic advantage that enabled them to accumulate wealth from both the slave trade and natural resources. Their use of ocean going ships equipped with magnetic compasses enabled them to travel further, faster. Voyages to discover and conquer new lands provided opportunities to open the door to trading resources with other nations. Resources such as metal, spices and cloth were in demand worldwide. Discovery of such resources and knowledge of their value drove nations to construct trade routes. One example is the mining of gold and silver from1500 1600, which were key resources that contributed to the wealth of the Europeans. However, due to the increased volume of gold being mined, it lost value resulting in inflation. (Brown, 2012, p. 198) Africa no longer had a market for their gold, which meant that the only marketable asset they had for trade, were their people. The need for slaves to provide manual labor was global. African princes and chiefs sold slaves to other nations as a means to buy guns, cloth, iron and other items unavailable to them. • 48. What Is Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs Theory One of the many interesting things Maslow noticed while he worked with monkeys early in his career, was that some needs take precedence over others. For example, if you are hungry and thirsty, you will tend to try to take care of the thirst first. After all, you can do without food for weeks, but you can only do without water for a couple of days! Thirst is a stronger need than hunger. Likewise, if you are very very thirsty, but someone has put a choke hold on you and you can t breath, which is more important? The need to breathe, of course. On the other hand, sex is less powerful than any of these. Let s face it, you won t die if you don t get it! Maslow took this idea and created his now famous hierarchy of needs. Beyond ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of the preceding four levels he calls deficit needs, or D needs. If you don t have enough of something i.e. you have a deficit you feel the need. But if you get all you need, you feel nothing at all! In other words, they cease to be motivating. As the old blues song goes, you don t miss your water till your well runs dry! He also talks about these levels in terms of homeostasis. Homeostasis is the principle by which your furnace thermostat operates: When it gets too cold, it switches the heat on; When it gets too hot, it switches the heat off. In the same way, your body, when it lacks a certain substance, develops a hunger for it; When it gets enough of it, then the hunger stops. Maslow simply extends the homeostatic principle to needs, such as safety, belonging, and esteem, that we don t ordinarily think of in these terms. Maslow sees all these needs as essentially survival needs. Even love and esteem are needed for the maintenance of health. He says we all have these needs built in to us genetically, like instincts. In fact, he calls them instinctoid instinct like needs. In terms of overall development, we move through these levels a bit like stages. As newborns, our focus (if not our entire set of needs) is on the physiological. Soon, we begin to recognize that we need to be safe. Soon after that, we crave attention and affection. A bit later, we look for self esteem. Mind you, this is in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. The Pros And Cons Of Guerilla Warfare Insurgency must not be jumbled up with terrorism as they overlap somehow but are totally different entities. These two such concepts probably lead to more confusion than any other thing. Guerilla warfare and insurgencies are often inferred to be similar with terrorism. One rationale for this is that insurgencies has similar targets as that of terrorism. However, if we examine specific differences, a prime difference is that an insurgency is a movement against the authorities with specific aim. Its motive is to challenge the government regarding control of certain parts of its territory and for that they require some support of the population, on the contrary, a terror group does not require active support of the population. It just works for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a creative force, not an antagonistic one in some scenarios. If their approach is to improve the spaces that belong to all of us, then that is the positive aspect of such movements. Taking a very small example like installing temporary seating at bus stops, for people who are fed up of waiting for bus, after their jobs and stay standing. When the authorities take no step to accommodate them, that s when the guerillas come in. I won t naively support such acts as profound, or say that they have the strength to solve the deep rooted problems in our cities, but the spirit of the guerilla urbanists to fix small issues in appreciable ways should be appreciated. These are the acts that lay the foundation of a reformatory movement, for the betterment of locales. They change the direction of our vision towards the city. Guerrilla urbanists are not given the reform projects by the government like turning roads into sidewalks and setting up shop in vacant buildings, which is illegal in most cities. Gradually though, some governments have approved these projects after witnessing the positive public reception they gain. Others have gone further and initiated such projects themselves, one of the most famous examples is pedestrianizing Times Square in New York ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In order to bring these often very abstract issues to life, we will examine a selection of high profile and prominent decisions (mainly from Canadian courts, and frequently from the Supreme Court of Canada) which can be said to have changed the law, and in which the judges of the court have disagreed among themselves. Cases to be covered concern controversial issues such as Battered Woman Syndrome, Euthanasia/ Physician Assisted Suicide, Hate Speech, Marijuana Use, Obscenity/ Pornography, Prostitution, or topics in human rights (i.e., freedom of expression, national security and the right not to be tortured, or religious freedom). Analysis of cases will include exploration and examination of the philosophical aspects of crucial terms and concepts that appear in Canadian law, such as in the Criminal Code of Canada, or in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
