Sleeping Disorders Research Paper
There are many different types of sleeping disorders that may affect the way you sleep at night and act during
the day. A sleeping disorder is a change in your sleep cycle or a quirk that can negatively affect your health.
They prevent you from getting a good night s sleep. Although they sound harsh, most sleeping disorders can be
treated or can improve with treatment. According to scientists, there are roughly 80 types of sleeping disorders.
Four of the most common ones are: insomnia, sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, and narcolepsy. Insomnia is
separated into 3 different types: transient, acute, and chronic. Transient insomnia occurs when your symptoms
last for only a couple of days. Acute, or short term insomnia, occurs when your symptoms last for a few weeks.
Chronic insomnia is the type of insomnia that may last for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sleep apnea is a disorder in which your breathing is interrupted during sleep. There are two separate forms of
sleep apnea, one is obstructive and the other is central. Obstructive sleep apnea is when the tissue in your throat
collapses and blocks your airway, and central sleep apnea is when your brain doesn t signal your muscles to
breathe. This disorder can be caused if you: smoke, are an overweight male, have high blood pressure, or have
a neck circumference larger than 15.75 inches. A few of the symptoms of sleep apnea are: extremely loud
snoring, choking during sleep, shortness of breath, daytime fatigue, waking up with a sore throat, or using the
restroom a lot at night. Sleep apnea can be treated with a machine called the CPAP device. The CPAP device is
a mask machine that provides a stream of air through your nose and mouth. This device keeps your airways
clear at all times, while you sleep. Another way to treat it is by having a tonsillectomy or an adenoid removal.
Nearly 22 million Americans suffer from sleep apnea and the majority don t even know

Speech On Old Hollywood
Introduction : My interest in Old Hollywood comes from my grandma and her love for the old movies she
grew up with. When I was little my grandma would watch me while my parents were at work and we would sit
in her living room with Turner Classic Movies turned on channel 47 to be exact. Movies like Breakfast at
Tiffany s and Dancing In The Rain became my favorite childhood movies. No matter what movies you like, if
you want to know where movies started then pay close attention. Today, I am going to teach you about classic
movies to help you better appreciate the movies we have today. You will learn about the evolution of the
golden age of Hollywood from silent movies black and white movies, to talkie movies in color, and some of
the actors and actresses that shaped the time period from 1915 to 1960.

Silent and Black and White Movies
Silent, black and white movies took the stage in 1915 with the release of the first major feature film entitled A
Birth of a Nation .
A Birth of a Nation was a movie based on the civil war, war inspired many of the first movies ever created.
The studios in charge of producing these movies (called the Big Five ) included MGM, Paramount, RKO and
Fox, Universal, and Columbia Pictures. Most of these studios are still producing the movies we know today.
These studios were called to action when World War 1 to create propaganda movies.
This popularized movies and the public started to gain an interest

Austrailian School Curriculum Essay
Structure and Development of Curriculum
Education needs to address the knowledge and skills that young Australians require to become competent
citizens in the 21st century. In 2008, a nation wide curriculum was announced by then Minister for Education,
Employment and Workplace Relations, Minister for Social Inclusion and Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard
under the power of the Rudd Labour Government (Brady, 2010). Based on the Melbourne Declaration on
Educational Goals for Young Australians (Ministerial Council on Education, Employment, Training and Youth
Affairs [MCEETYA], 2008), The Australian Curriculum, developed by the Australian Curriculum and

Seven areas of general capabilities are identified that students develop through successful application to the
subject content, with some capabilities developed in specific learning areas, whereas others can be developed
in any learning area as the teacher sees fit (ACARA, 2009b), and provides students with skills in literacy,
numeracy, information and communication technology (ICT), critical and creative thinking, ethical behaviour,
personal and social competence, and intercultural understanding (ACARA, 2009b). Also identified are three
cross curriculum priorities that aim to be both relevant to the lives of students and address the contemporary
issues they face (ACARA, 2009c), and include studies in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and
cultures, Asia and Australia s engagement with Asia, and the sustainability of our planet (ACARA, 2009c).
The Australian Curriculum builds upon the knowledge and skills students develop as learning progresses with
the learning achieved in one year forming the foundation for learning in subsequent years. It contains specific
achievement standards in each learning area that are comprised of outcomes

Heart of Darkness vs. Apocalypse Now
To win the top award at the Cannes Film Festival and be nominated for eight awards at the Academy Awards is
an outstanding feat. Francis Ford Coppola s Apocalypse Now did not only that, but won Academy Awards for
Best Cinematography and Best Sound. Coppola can not take all the credit for this enlightening movie. The film
was loosely based off of Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness. Though Conrad was not credited in Apocalypse
Now, his novella has a great impact on Coppola s cinematic masterpiece. Captain Benjamin Willard of
Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness s Marlow are very much alike. Both are sent on a mission to find
Kurtz, a well respected man. In the novella, Kurtz is an exceptional ivory trader and not only a musician, but a

And good does not always triumph, General Corman informs Willard of the dangers of mankind. The people
who should be most civilized act barbaric. The Ninth Air Calvary attacks innocent, unarmed natives and the

steamer act surprisingly civilized, more so than the pilgrims. The Congo of Africa and the deep jungle of
Cambodia are places of corruption. Marlow and Willard take the same journey that Kurtz does and they
become him. Kurtz realizes his darkness and mistakes before he dies and cries, The horror, the horror! Marlow
accepts this and burries Kurtz in the mud, while in Apocalypse Now, Willard sees that the only solution is the

Marlow and Willard travel away from the darkness to not subdue themselves to the same fate as Kurtz. We d

What Are The Three Branches
Our founding fathers met together on a warm summer day in the May of 1787, and wrote our Constitution,
serving as the supreme law of the United States. This particular piece of paper has set the laws of the U.S, and
acts as the foundation of it s national government. However, this government is not ruled by one single person
for that would be a dictatorship; something that the founding fathers wanted to stray from. The government is a
republic democracy, in which the citizens vote for other people to represent them. These people then work in
different branches, but what are exactly are branches ? The branches are split up pieces of the entire
government, and in the Constitution it has stated that our government is to consist of three branches. These

Bicameralism is a system in which the legislative branch is split into chambers (The Constitution). One
chamber is the House of Representatives, which in total has 435 members to represent the 50 states populations
individually. The other chamber would be the Senate, in which all 50 states each equally have 2 members to
represent them, making up a total count of 100 members. The Congress, another name for the legislative
branch, has this system for smaller states would have equal representation so states are more involved ,
whereas the House of Representatives are based off of population to represent its people. By having this
system, it makes the process of a bill becoming an official law a long and painful process. Of course, having
this long process can be a good thing for it acts as a giant filter for corrupt laws, but it has its cons. Even
though this branch is in charge of writing federal laws to help protect its citizens and promote the general
welfare, middle and lower class citizens do not have much of a say in the process of making these laws. For

Retinal Disparity Lab Report
As human eyes are located at different lateral positions, there is a slight difference between images projected to
the retinas of the eyes. Due to the binocular vision of the observer, this difference is mainly in the relative
horizontal position of the objects being viewed (see Figure 2.11). This positional difference is called horizontal
disparity or binocular disparity [38]. Binocular neurons in the visual cortex of the brain receive the input
signals from both eyes and after integration provide stereopsis or perception of depth [39]. Depth perception
has a positive impact on performing practical tasks; for instance driving, stepping off a curb, pouring into a
container and even reaching out to shake someone s hand.

behind the horopter line in the outside of panum s fusional area, then the images can no longer be merged
together. In this case double vision or diplopia is produced known as physiological diplopia. However, the
human brain can unconsciously distinguish whether the images are coming from the same objects or not. Then,
based on the position of the images on the two retinas, the visual cortex interprets the position of the object
whether in front or behind the horopter. This phenomenon is called qualitative stereopsis. This classification of
stereopsis creates an impression that the world is in layers of depth and a feeling of being immersed in
surrounding. Although qualitative stereopsis does not provide the exact location of the object as well as
quantitative stereopsis, it still provides an awareness of nearness and

Advantages Of The Divine Command Theory
The Divine Command Theory is of the view that morality is somehow independent upon God, and that the
moral obligation consists of obedience to God s commands. The divine Command Theory also includes the
claims that morality is based on the commands or how God is, and that the right thing to do is what God
commands of one to do. The specific content of these divine commands alternates according to the particular
religion and the particular views of the individual divine command theorist. However, all versions of this
theory hold in common the claim that morality and moral obligations ultimately depend on God.
Immanuel Kant claims that morality wants one to have faith and belief in God and in the Hereafter. According
to him, one must be of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparison Of Post-Modernism And The Modern Movement
The Arisen of Post Modern movement for the replacement of the Modern movement in the way of constructing
architecture Post Modernism could be a new paradigm in architecture to replace Modernism and it is also
known as the Critical Modernism. It is committed to pluralism, the heterogeneity of our cities and global
culture, and it acknowledges the variety of taste cultures and visual codes of the users (Jencks, 2002). Post
Modernists agree that the cultures at different stages of growth and the history behind of it had made up the
world. This pluralism had become the essential fact, in our life and the differences had to be preserved and
cultivated. Post modern movement had rejected the endless repetition in the architecture and welcome the new

Contrary to the Modern movement, Post Modernism had placed great emphasis on the communication of
architecture between humans and the environment. Robert Venturi once said before that architecture as a
system of communications within society to satisfy the need for explicit and heightened symbolism
(Trachtenberg and Hyman, 2003). Post modernism architecture was often designed to convey the message that
carries ironic meaning or criticism that challenge the status quo to the public. The forms of an architecture or a
space will also respond to the emotional needs. The communication of an architecture between humans and the
built environment will all depends on the form created. The architecture or space s overall suitability will first
be judged by its general form, even before the consumer has had the chance of making use of it or physically
experiencing it. It is, therefore, very important to note that emotional needs are equally as pressing as corporal
needs, and experience shows that the lines between the two sometimes become so

Greek Drama Dbq
Greek plays required a very specific setting to be performed and written. The society needs to allow people the
needed time to work and perform plays as well as educate them enough to be able to write the plays. Athens
was a society that based itself off of education. This allowed people to have knowledge to write and read yet
still gave them free time to work on plays. Sparta, was a militaristic society that was only focused on raising
the best possible warriors. This meant education, free time, and even enjoyment was not necessary. Sparta s

`` Speak, Traum Toward A Revised Understanding Of Literary...
Trauma Theory and Enon
In his article entitled Speak, Trauma: Toward a Revised Understanding of Literary Trauma Theory, Joshua
Pederson proposed a new method of approaching a text from the perspective of literary trauma theory that set
aside old methods in favor of those that reflect the most recent advancements made in trauma research. Rather
than approaching a text according to Caruth, Herman, or van der Kolk s definitions of trauma, Pederson
suggested that scholars attempt to perceive a literary text according to the latest definition laid out by Richard
McNally (Pederson 338). In utilizing his method of approach to analyze the contemporary trauma narrative in
Paul Harding s Enon, it became apparent to me that the novel s protagonist, Charlie Crosby, exhibits the exact
characteristics of recent trauma research findings, and none of the characteristics described in older definitions,
leading me to assert that Harding s understanding and depiction of trauma reflects modern research, perhaps
suggesting that he studied modern trauma theory in preparation for writing this novel. It is relevant to note that
Harding wrote this novel during a very controversial time in trauma literary theory. This controversy is sparked
by recent developments in the field of psychology suggesting that older definitions of trauma are no longer
believed to be accurate. Therefore, literary theory based on those outdated definitions is no longer based on
valid research, and thus no longer

The Disturbing World Of Human Trafficking
Man is a wolf to man. This Latin proverb starts the reader on a harrowing journey into the disturbing world of
human trafficking. John Bowe speaks to the typical American as he investigates the often hidden and
dangerous side of globalization. Humans have a natural desire to get ahead in life, even if sometimes others
have to suffer as a result. This attitude is the catalyst for what is known as modern day slavery. The author
sums up his book perfectly when he says, We all seek control. Control equals power. Power corrupts.
Corruption makes us blind, tyrannical and desperate to justify our behavior. Indeed he proves that statement
true throughout the book.

including moving dead bodies of people from a place to another, for years. Imagine doing this and knowing
that this one day can happens to you. . This was the Holocaust. The holocaust is known as the extermination of
6 millions of Jews by the Nazis during Hitler dictatorship. It all began when Hitler was given the opportunity
by Hindenburg to be Germany s chancellor on January 30, 1933. This opportunity turned in an abuse of power,
in fact Hitler governed Germany according to his belief. Hitler, and the Nazis more in general, strongly
believed in the German biological superiority. According to the article Before Germans Slaughtered Jews They
Slaughtered Africans , a mixed society in Germany was seen as a threat to the national s identity. Jews, in
particular, were considered sub human. For this reason, under Hitler s Nazi regime, they were treated as animal
or way differently from Germans. But the separation occurred gradually; in fact, at the beginning of his
governance, Jews had to leave their homes and were placed in assigned ghettos where little or no food was
available to them. As months passed, ulterior separations occurred. Old

The Worst Hard Time Summary
Timothy Egan writes the book The Worst Hard Time. In the book, it has a build up to how the Dust Bowl
occurred, and it explains the effects of the Dust Bowl through families that were in the plains. Then to the end
of the book, things are starting to turn around when Franklin D. Roosevelt visits the Great Plains. Timothy
Egan s thesis is that from the beginning, the whole United States starts to tip the balance of the Great Plains,
which led to the Dust Bowl, and the people hitting rock bottom; however, two opposite ideas come together
with faith that the Great Plains can be rebalance. Egan writes in an inspiring tone that gives a feeling of
understanding how the people felt in the worst time, and he stays on topic of his main point but is slightly bias.
In the beginning of the book, Timothy Egan effectively show that the removal of Indians and the XIT ranch
was the start line to the Dust Bowl. Egan writes about how the United States drives both the Indians and the
cowboys out of the Midwest for the farmers, which Egan signals that this is the spark that started the worst
hard time. Egan explains this by writing, This grass was never meant to be plowed, James told his fellow
cowboys. By writing this, Egan shows that the cowboys know that the farmers should not have used the land
for crops, because they know that the rain will not always be there. Throughout the first chapters, Egan
continues to give scenarios that tip the balances like the effect of the clearing of the

Managed Care System
The U.S has many payer systems which many believe it to be its downfall among other countries. This may be
because many view it more as an economic business and not an overall wellness plan. The United States main
public program of funding is Medicare, which once followed a standard form of payment. It is now envisioned
as a futuristic model that encompasses the payments of providers. Medicare is a national social insurance
program that is run by the government since 1966. Also unlike Great Britain system, the program provides
health care to Americans over 65 years of age for those who have paid their work dues in the system. Medicare
has also extended its reach to those Americans who may be veterans or disabled. Another huge form of
payment to providers is through Managed care which can be beneficial to physicians in the fee for service and
capitation aspect. While this form of payment is similar to Great Britain s programs, their execution of it
remains vastly different. Managed Care is a type of healthcare system with health care plans that has

Causes of American War of Independence
The Causes of American War of Independence The American Revolutionary War (1775 1783), also known as
the American War of Independence, was a conflict that erupted between Great Britain and revolutionaries
within thirteen British colonies, who declared their independence as the United States of America in 1776. The
war was the culmination of the American Revolution, a colonial struggle against political and economic
policies of the British Empire. The war eventually widened far beyond British North America; many Native
Americans also fought on both sides of the conflict. Throughout the war, the British were able to use their
naval superiority to capture and occupy coastal cities, but control of the countryside (where most of the ...

Many of the rest served as orderlies, mechanics, laborers, servants, scouts and guides, although more than half

shortages, Washington lifted the ban on black enlistment in the Continental Army in January 1776. All black
units were formed in Rhode Island and Massachusetts; many were slaves promised freedom for serving in lieu

for the Revolutionary cause. Most American Indians east of the Mississippi River were affected by the war,
with many communities dividing over the question of how to respond to the conflict. Most Native Americans
who joined the fight fought against the United States, since native lands were threatened by expanding
American settlement. An estimated 13,000 warriors fought on the British side; the largest group, the Iroquois

Argumentative Essay On Animals
Around twenty six million animals are used for scientific research every year in the United States alone. The
animals are used solely for medical treatments, determining the toxicity of medications, checking the safety of
products destined for human use, and many other biomedical, commercial, and healthcare uses. Researchers
estimate animals have been used as test subjects since 500 B.C. According to Humane Society International,
animal subjects are commonly forced fed, forced inhalation of chemicals, deprived of food and water, burned,
and possibly killed. We as a nation need to begin a movement to stop testing products on defenseless animals
(PETA).
Researchers have found descriptions of live animals being dissected in ancient Greek writing dating back to
500 BC. Physician scientists such as Aristotle, Herophilus, and Erasistratus conducted experiments on animals
to discover the functions of living organisms. Originally, vivisection, the dissection of a living organism, were
performed on criminals in ancient Rome and Alexandria, however, in ancient Greece there were prohibitions
against the mutilation of the human body which eventually led to the reliance on animals. The physicians each
had their own opinions when it came to performing vivisections on animals. Aristotle believed that animals
lacked intelligence and therefore the notions of justice and injustice did not apply to them. A successor to
Aristotle, Theophrastus, disagreed stating that animals, like humans,

paradoxical ways of perceiving the world coexisted: one view in which the traditional cultural values persisted
in which fairy beliefs were common and oral history dominated; and another in which the scientific and the

Global Positioning System (GPS) Sensors:
GPS sensors are receivers with antennas that use a satellite based navigation system with a network of 24
satellites in orbit around the earth to provide position, speed , and time information.
The GPS was originally developed for use by the United States army, but in the 1980s, the United States

Graduated Driver License
Within the United States and throughout the world we have young men and women driving for the first time.
Furthermore, there are some concerns with young drivers not being responsible enough to handle the
operations of a vehicle without doing harm to themselves or someone else. Consequently, we need to apply
stronger restrictions on new drivers from the age of 16 21, in doing this the mortality rate will begin to drop.
Graduated Driver License
The rate of vehicle incident is high among our youth. The Graduated Driver License or the GDL was
developed in the mid 90s in the United States to lower the incident rate. In the mid 1970s to the early 1990s the
rate of mortality dropped from 390,000 to 280,000 deaths per year, but from 1992 to 2000 the rate has
remained at a constant level. To address the issues, many states implemented a new program called the GDL

intended audience was those who can put a stop to sexual violence: the perpetrators or would be offenders.
Although this one minute announcement completes the task of bringing sexual assault to the forefront of

Historically, the United States has adopted the English common law, where a conviction of rape required
evidence that the perpetrator used force or threats of force against the victim. Rape was defined as carnal
knowledge of a woman forcibly and against her will (Decker, 2011). Under this definition, in order for the
court to determine sexual assault had indeed occurred, five factors needed to be proven: that the victim was a
woman, that the act was illicit and criminal , that there was penile vaginal sexual intercourse during the attack ,
that force was used, and that the force was against the victim s will (Reddington Kreisel 2005). Over time,
these traditional rape laws were criticized, because the victim, not the defendant...is on trial (Spohn, 1999);
instead of evaluating the offender s actions and the seriousness of the injuries, the case often focused on the
character of the victim, what he or she was wearing, the time and place, whether the victim was under the
influence of alcohol or drugs, and other details of the occurrence (Spohn, 1999). In fact, this traditional
definition, which was largely used by most jurisdictions, emphasized two dimensions of rape: force and
consent.
Over the years each state has adopted different definitions of force and consent. Generally, forcible compulsion
is the statutory language used to denote a force requirement while incapacity to consent generally means an

The California Drought And The Proper Allocation Of Water...
The California Drought and the Proper Allocation of Water Resources
Intro:
The state of California is in the midst of a five year drought. The results of which are beginning to reek havoc
on the state s municipalities, farms and wetland habitats. If the state continues as is supporting in thirsty
agricultural industries, towns and cities at current levels, not only will this exacerbate already tenuous water
supply problem within the state it will have ripple affects throughout the South West. Surrounding states will
have to adopt even more stringent restriction for farms, cities and industries which may have further calamitous
economic results. However, the most difficult questions like proper allocation or modifying water rights have
yet to be answered and likely will not be resolved before California s water situation worsens. Last April
standing in front of a snowpack at just 5% of normal levels, Governor Jerry Brown declared the drought in
California has reached a crisis level and instituted state wide water restriction for towns, cities and
municipalities. He called for a 25% reduction of water usage by urging Californians flush less, take shorter
showers, and let lawns turn brown. Although agriculture accounts for roughly 80% (Northern California Water
Association) of all human consumption of water this industry was exempted any restriction by the governor.
With a drought which shows no sign of letting up, powerful farm and environmental lobbies, difficult to

Why College Is Not Worth It Analysis
As you graduate high school you begin to think about whether to go to college or not. A huge number of people

absolutely worth your time and money. There are many reasons why you should go to college. Some reasons
are, you can earn money and another is that you have a greater chance of getting a good and decent job. In this
essay I will discuss the value of college and why it is important. College may seem not seem like the best path
in life but when it comes to reality, it is. One reason to prove my claim is, that you can earn more money after

get the job you want or the job that has a good profit for you. Even though college does sound so great, it will
lead you to a successful life in the future. Someone who went to college might say that it was their best years
of their life, and others might say that they dreaded the fact of college. College is in fact very expensive. Many
people who don t go to college usually don t have the money to go and at the same time, don t earn the
education they need. According to the article, why is college so expensive it states, As the government s budget

The Growth Of China
Over the past couple decades, China s economy has been shifting from an economy that relies on exports and
low cost production to a consumer economy that has much more open markets than it used to. As a result, they
are poised to regain their status as the largest economy in the world in terms of purchasing power. China used
to make and produce products at a low price, now they want to build the machines that make these products
instead. Looking forward, there will be four main trends that will drive the growth of China s economy even if
growth is very marginal. These trends are; the shift in investment, the shift in capital flows, the shift in
consumer leverage, and the shift in shopping(ecommerce).
The first trend is China s shift in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today, China has a large excess of capital. The international reserves of China are currently above $3 trillion.
Because of the fact that China s financial system is very small and undeveloped for the immensity of the
nation, China needs to have a greater amount of capital outflows.. For example, in the United States alone,
Chinese consumers spent $12 billion on U.S, real estate in only the past year. This trend means that U.S and
other foreign real estate will continue to be bought Chinese investors both for residential usage and for hard
assets like farmland or similar physical capital.
The third trend is the positive shift in consumer leverage. In a new modern world where products like cars are
being bought through obtaining loans instead of cash, China is lacking behind but is slowly catching up. In
fact, it is still the norm in China to purchase a car using cash. The common Chinese person will simply have
more abundant ways of obtaining credit than they ever did in the past. For example, in the last year, the amount
of new car loans increased by 10% which increased the overall amount of sales in China. With a large market
to choose from in industries like the car industry, investors will want to put their money into the ones that will
be buyers while the smaller industries will become weaker and lose the little market share that they had before.
The last trend is the shift in

Supernatural Elements And Supernatural Elements In...
Supernatural and temporal elements are popular devices used in romantic literature. Supernatural elements are
things that go beyond the natural realm such as spirits and demons, and temporal elements are a part of the
physical world such as nature and flaws in humanity. Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter, a romantic
novel, consists of mystic and secular facets that enhance the plot and tone of the novel as well as creating
conflicts. Supernatural elements provide contrast between Puritan beliefs and witchcraft, and temporal
elements provide contrast between the sins and flaws of society and the purity of nature. The devil is a
supernatural being that imposes itself into the character, Roger Chillingworth. The temporal fault of hypocrisy
shows in Dimmesdale s character and the judgmental nature of the townspeople. The role of the forest is both a
supernatural and temporal element because it is a very spiritual place and provides an escape from the secular
world. Hawthorne uses dark supernatural elements to characterize Roger Chillingworth. Hester s affair makes
Chillingworth an envious and vengeful man, and his need for revenge turns him into a fiend. Chillingworth s
physical appearance changes for the worst in the course of seven years, old Roger Chillingworth was a striking
evidence of man s faculty of transforming himself into a devil (Hawthorne 156). Chillingworth s appearance
changes from a studious and scholarly man to a stooped and deformed creature with red glowing eyes. Pearl
observes Chillingworth s hideous and terrifying features and suspects that he is the Black Man. Not only is
Chillingworth s appearance effected by the supernatural elements of the devil, his demonic character is
exposed when he leeches onto Dimmesdale. Chillingworth seems to embrace his demonic identity when Hester
condemns him for torturing Dimmesdale and making his life hell. Chillingworth admits to doing so, but refuses
to stop because Dimmesdale deserves it. Hawthorne uses the evil supernatural elements of the devil to make
Roger Chillingworth a symbol of the Black Man. His reason for doing so provides grave conflict in the lives of
Hester, Pearl, and especially Dimmesdale. The comparison of Chillingworth to the devil

enjoyed Eiden and colleagues article the most out of the assigned articles. Eiden and colleagues conducted a
study examining the effects of prenatal cocaine exposure on infant hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis activity

dangerousness even though it is a stupid attempt at possibly gaining popularity in their friendship circles.
Dopamine plays an important role in the brain s area focused on reward, increasing, decreasing, and the
redistribution of dopamine. We discussed the fact that adolescents feel invincible and may share more emotions
with their peers which can lead to choosing to take certain risks. For example, if they see (or hear) that their
peers are partaking in the consumption of alcohol or drugs, they may do it themselves to feel a part of the gang
or to feel just as invincible as their friends are. The claim of the day was that genetic factors play a strong role
in human development that genes alone can determine certain human behavioral characteristics. Plomin

The Negative and Positive Benefits of Fluoride
The ingestion of fluoride has been associated to benefits for the teeth. According to some observers in the past,
fluoride strengthens the enamel of the teeth making it not so susceptible to cavities. From this hypothesis the
fluoridation of water had its start and until today it is believed to be one of the most responsible sources for
reducing cavities in the population (Graham Morin, 1999). In some author s view the fluoridation of the water
implies a significant change and the positive effects can been seen in the so called post fluoride generation. In
this generation the number of adults without any teeth has dramatically declined and similar improvements can
be observed in the periodontal health − related to gums and supporting structures of teeth − (Milgrom Reisine,
2000). However the lack of consideration of fluoride s potential to be harmful to human s health is
questionable and studies have pointed out the dark side of this compound (Bryson, 2006). A study conducted in
the cities of Newburgh and Kingston, in New York have shown that the prevalence of cavities in the population
is similar or even less in communities that doesn t have artificial fluoridated water compared to the ones that
have fluoride add to the water. This study conducted forty years ago is one considerable evidence that
fluoridating the water isn t strongly necessary nowadays to prevent tooth decay, considering that the access to
fluoridated products, such as toothpaste, mouthwash and

The debt to credit ratio is the calculation of how much you are using the credit that is available to you. It is an
indication of how heavily your finances lean on credit. This ratio accounts for 30% of your credit score. It is
next to your payment history, which is 35%. An understanding of this ratio can help you improve your FICO

Your debt to credit ratio is calculated as follows:
Debt used divided by available credit multiplied by hundred = Debt to credit ratio
For example a debt of $2,000 on a credit card of $4,000 limit = 50%

Dada was a radical art movement started in 1914 and ended in the mid 1920 s mainly in the North Atlantic. It
was created as a form of protest against World War 1 by immigrants who wanted to express a new kind of
mentality in the world of art and politics at the time. Dada was the reaction and rejection of traditional society
and the atrocities of World War 1 by artist of that era. It reflected their desire to oppose convention and
boundaries and establish art in a new light, breaking down stereotypes and forcing people s perception of art to

Dadaists pushed anarchy in their disgust with the government and the destruction the war caused on their lives.
Art was used to enforce political motives rather than portray conventionally accepted forms of art. The Dadaist
focus was to involve the audience into critical thinking that they hope would stimulate a social revolution.
Artists in Berlin included Johannes Baader, Hannah Hoch, George Gzosz and Raoul Hausmann. Their art
signified and encouraged revolution and independence, it comprised of a lot of collage, typography and
photomontage techniques all with the purpose of breaking away from traditional canonized art.
Spontaneity in art was a significant feature in Dada. It was representative of Dada s breaking away from
constraints and we saw this in Dada s love for collage which is random and easily assembled allowing the
release of an easy flow of creative ideas, they believed that traditional art at that time, being oil paintings,
required a lot of time spent on perfecting imagery which negated and stifled the artists ability to follow
subconscious impulses. Collages and other Dada art were works that disturb or humiliate traditional concepts
of art .

1. The Act stipulates that the Central Board of Directors of the State Bank of Pakistan
(SBP) shall secure monetary stability and the soundness of the financial system .
2. However, the Act currently has twin objectives: price stability and growth. It does not define monetary
stability with precision, although Sections9 (a) and (b) do set out monetary policy formulation and objectives.
These ambiguities have allowed the government to adopt different monetary policy frameworks at different
times. To improve transparency, the IMF has recommended to the Pakistani authorities that the SBP Act be
amended to define the term more clearly and to establish a hierarchy of multiple objectives of monetary policy.
3. The SBP is currently working to amend the Act to reflect the bank s role in the foreign exchange market, as
well as to clarify monetary policy.
When monetary policy is made?
In February 1994, the SBP was granted full autonomy to regulate and supervise monetary and credit
mechanisms. Following 2006 a separate independent body of monetary policy and research department was
created.
The process of monetary policy formulation usually begins at the start of the fiscal year when SBP sets a target
of M2 growth in line with government s targets of inflation and growth (usually in the month of May) and an
estimation of money demand in the economy.

The Censorship Of Canadian Content
Rules revolving around Canadian Content (CanCon) have been set in place since the 1920 s. In 2005, revisions
to the 1991 Broadcasting Act were made. Since this revision was made there have been further changes to the
Act trying to create the best set of rules for CanCon to be broadcasted (Dewing, 2011). CanCon is an outdated
concept that is causing consumers to switch to other forms of media. The CanCon rules cannot determine what
is considered Canadian and they cannot keep up with the ever changing forms of media. Canadian producers
are only getting a slim portion of the industry even with the rules in place. Therefore CanCon rules should be
totally eliminated.
While technology is getting better and people have begun streaming different forms of media online, the
government has been slow on updating the rules that regulate broadcasted Canadian Content (Mejaski, 2011).
Due to the rapid development of digital technology CanCon rules are now outdated. This is causing the
distinction between broadcasting and telecommunications to be blurred. New technology has resulted in
fragmentation. This refers to the idea that there are is a growing number of courses that now have to be
regulated by CanCon (Dewig, 2011). With the world technologically progressing Canada has to focus on the
idea that the world is becoming borderless. This idea comes from the thought that technology is bringing the
world closer together because everyone is interconnected now. This will result in the power

Due to the binocular vision of the observer, this difference is mainly in the relative horizontal position of the objects being viewed (see Figure 2.11). This positional difference is called horizontal disparity or binocular disparity [38]. Binocular neurons in the visual cortex of the brain receive the input signals from both eyes and after integration provide stereopsis or perception of depth [39]. Trauma Theory and Enon In his article entitled Speak, Trauma: Toward a Revised Understanding of Literary Trauma Theory, Joshua Pederson proposed a new method of approaching a text from the perspective of literary trauma theory that set aside old methods in favor of those that reflect the most recent advancements made in trauma research. Rather than approaching a text according to Caruth, Herman, or van der Kolk s definitions of trauma, Pederson suggested that scholars attempt to perceive a literary text according to the latest definition laid out by Richard McNally (Pederson 338). In utilizing his method of approach to analyze the contemporary trauma narrative in Paul Harding s Enon, it became apparent to me that the novel s protagonist, Charlie Crosby, exhibits the exact characteristics of recent trauma research findings, and none of the characteristics described in older definitions, leading me to assert that Harding s understanding and depiction of trauma reflects modern research, perhaps suggesting that he studied modern trauma theory in preparation for writing this novel. It is relevant to note that Harding wrote this novel during a very controversial time in trauma literary theory. This controversy is sparked by recent developments in the field of psychology suggesting that older definitions of trauma are no longer believed to be accurate. In the book, it has a build up to how the Dust Bowl occurred, and it explains the effects of the Dust Bowl through families that were in the plains. Timothy Egan s thesis is that from the beginning, the whole United States starts to tip the balance of the Great Plains, which led to the Dust Bowl, and the people hitting rock bottom; however, two opposite ideas come together with faith that the Great Plains can be rebalance. Egan writes in an inspiring tone that gives a feeling of understanding how the people felt in the worst time, and he stays on topic of his main point but is slightly bias. In the beginning of the book, Timothy Egan effectively show that the removal of Indians and the XIT ranch was the start line to the Dust Bowl. Egan writes about how the United States drives both the Indians and the cowboys out of the Midwest for the farmers, which Egan signals that this is the spark that started the worst hard time. Egan explains this by writing, This grass was never meant to be plowed, James told his fellow cowboys. By writing this, Egan shows that the cowboys know that the farmers should not have used the land for crops, because they know that the rain will not always be there. Physician scientists such as Aristotle, Herophilus, and Erasistratus conducted experiments on animals to discover the functions of living organisms. Originally, vivisection, the dissection of a living organism, were performed on criminals in ancient Rome and Alexandria, however, in ancient Greece there were prohibitions against the mutilation of the human body which eventually led to the reliance on animals. The physicians each had their own opinions when it came to performing vivisections on animals. Aristotle believed that animals lacked intelligence and therefore the notions of justice and injustice did not apply to them. A successor to Aristotle, Theophrastus, disagreed stating that animals, like humans, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although this one minute announcement completes the task of bringing sexual assault to the forefront of discussion, it fails to encompass central issues of rape culture: societal perceptions, the victim, and the justice system. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Historically, the United States has adopted the English common law, where a conviction of rape required evidence that the perpetrator used force or threats of force against the victim. Rape was defined as carnal knowledge of a woman forcibly and against her will (Decker, 2011). Under this definition, in order for the court to determine sexual assault had indeed occurred, five factors needed to be proven: that the victim was a woman, that the act was illicit and criminal , that there was penile vaginal sexual intercourse during the attack , that force was used, and that the force was against the victim s will (Reddington Kreisel 2005). Over time, these traditional rape laws were criticized, because the victim, not the defendant...is on trial (Spohn, 1999); instead of evaluating the offender s actions and the seriousness of the injuries, the case often focused on the character of the victim, what he or she was wearing, the time and place, whether the victim was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and other details of the occurrence (Spohn, 1999). In fact, this traditional definition, which was largely used by most jurisdictions, emphasized two dimensions of rape: force and consent. The California Drought and the Proper Allocation of Water Resources Intro: The state of California is in the midst of a five year drought. The results of which are beginning to reek havoc on the state s municipalities, farms and wetland habitats. If the state continues as is supporting in thirsty agricultural industries, towns and cities at current levels, not only will this exacerbate already tenuous water supply problem within the state it will have ripple affects throughout the South West. Surrounding states will have to adopt even more stringent restriction for farms, cities and industries which may have further calamitous economic results. However, the most difficult questions like proper allocation or modifying water rights have yet to be answered and likely will not be resolved before California s water situation worsens. Last April standing in front of a snowpack at just 5% of normal levels, Governor Jerry Brown declared the drought in California has reached a crisis level and instituted state wide water restriction for towns, cities and municipalities. He called for a 25% reduction of water usage by urging Californians flush less, take shorter showers, and let lawns turn brown. For example, in the United States alone, Chinese consumers spent $12 billion on U.S, real estate in only the past year. • 34. Supernatural Elements And Supernatural Elements In... Supernatural and temporal elements are popular devices used in romantic literature. Supernatural elements are things that go beyond the natural realm such as spirits and demons, and temporal elements are a part of the physical world such as nature and flaws in humanity. Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter, a romantic novel, consists of mystic and secular facets that enhance the plot and tone of the novel as well as creating conflicts. Supernatural elements provide contrast between Puritan beliefs and witchcraft, and temporal elements provide contrast between the sins and flaws of society and the purity of nature. The devil is a supernatural being that imposes itself into the character, Roger Chillingworth. The temporal fault of hypocrisy shows in Dimmesdale s character and the judgmental nature of the townspeople. The role of the forest is both a supernatural and temporal element because it is a very spiritual place and provides an escape from the secular world. Hawthorne uses dark supernatural elements to characterize Roger Chillingworth. Hester s affair makes Chillingworth an envious and vengeful man, and his need for revenge turns him into a fiend. Chillingworth s physical appearance changes for the worst in the course of seven years, old Roger Chillingworth was a striking evidence of man s faculty of transforming himself into a devil (Hawthorne 156). Chillingworth s appearance changes from a studious and scholarly man to a stooped and deformed creature with red glowing eyes. Pearl observes Chillingworth s hideous and terrifying features and suspects that he is the Black Man. Not only is Chillingworth s appearance effected by the supernatural elements of the devil, his demonic character is exposed when he leeches onto Dimmesdale. Chillingworth seems to embrace his demonic identity when Hester condemns him for torturing Dimmesdale and making his life hell. Chillingworth admits to doing so, but refuses to stop because Dimmesdale deserves it. Hawthorne uses the evil supernatural elements of the devil to make Roger Chillingworth a symbol of the Black Man. His reason for doing so provides grave conflict in the lives of Hester, Pearl, and especially Dimmesdale. The comparison of Chillingworth to the devil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. The Negative and Positive Benefits of Fluoride The ingestion of fluoride has been associated to benefits for the teeth. According to some observers in the past, fluoride strengthens the enamel of the teeth making it not so susceptible to cavities. From this hypothesis the fluoridation of water had its start and until today it is believed to be one of the most responsible sources for reducing cavities in the population (Graham Morin, 1999). In some author s view the fluoridation of the water implies a significant change and the positive effects can been seen in the so called post fluoride generation. In this generation the number of adults without any teeth has dramatically declined and similar improvements can be observed in the periodontal health − related to gums and supporting structures of teeth − (Milgrom Reisine, 2000). However the lack of consideration of fluoride s potential to be harmful to human s health is questionable and studies have pointed out the dark side of this compound (Bryson, 2006). A study conducted in the cities of Newburgh and Kingston, in New York have shown that the prevalence of cavities in the population is similar or even less in communities that doesn t have artificial fluoridated water compared to the ones that have fluoride add to the water. This study conducted forty years ago is one considerable evidence that fluoridating the water isn t strongly necessary nowadays to prevent tooth decay, considering that the access to fluoridated products, such as toothpaste, mouthwash and ... Since this revision was made there have been further changes to the Act trying to create the best set of rules for CanCon to be broadcasted (Dewing, 2011). CanCon is an outdated concept that is causing consumers to switch to other forms of media. The CanCon rules cannot determine what is considered Canadian and they cannot keep up with the ever changing forms of media.
