Jon Krakauer And Chris Mccandless
Jon Krakauer and Chris McCandless
Into the Wild, a novel talks a young boy called Chris McCandless who was born in a rich East Coast
family and traveled to Alaska by hitchhiking until he walked into the wilderness and then he dead. He
loved to adventure, seek a place without civilization and escape where he lived. The author of the
novel, Jon Krakauer, has similar experience to McCandless. Jon Krakauer climbed Devils Thumb, the
one of dangerous mountains in Alaska alone when he was twenty three, a year younger than
McCandless. Krakauer almost dead, but he was lucky and survived, unlike McCandless. Krakauer
spent lots of time and money on investigating McCandless s life and writing this novel. Krakauer and
McCandless are both eager to adventure and do what the normal people would not try to. Why?
Because they are smart, have similar personalities and effect by their father.
The first reason they are both smart and achieve outstanding results. Smart can help people solve
problems easier and faster. Sometimes, some smart people think the adventure is not so hard to be
done. Chris McCandless was a clever student. In the third grade, after receiving a high score on a
standardized achievement test, Chris was placed in an accelerated program for gifted students
(Krakauer 99). Chris was a high achiever in almost everything that caught his fancy. Academically he
brought home A s with little effort (101). His mother found that he had a talent of being a capitalist.

Not Without My Daughter
Film Analysis: Not Without My Daughter The film Not Without My Daughter depicts both positive
and negative responses to the Islamic religion. The film starts off with the couple of Moody and Betty,
and their daughter, Mahtob. In the opening scene, the family is depicted of being loving, humorous,
and supportive. The culturally unbiased and multi faceted portrayal of Islam in this film is
accomplished by including both negative aspects, through depicting gender discrimination and
positive aspects, by presenting women as being respectful.
Moody is employed as a doctor. In the break room, Moody overhears his coworkers talking poorly
about Iran. I unfortunately think this was a true depiction of Americans interacting with those from
Iran. Due to media, Americans tend to stray away from different ... Show more content on

As the movie continues, Moody told his wife that he wanted to visit his family in Iran because it had
been ten years since the previous visit. Betty did not want to go because she felt it was to dangerous.
Moody talked her into it and they were soon beginning their travels. Once they got there, Moody s
family meets them with veils and hugs. Betty was caught off guard when told she must wear a veil.
She learns that most women in Iran choose to wear the Chador as a sign of respect. I consider this as a
positive aspect of Islam. It is the women s choice to wear a veil which is looked at as being respectful.
From this film, I could understand that gender roles are very important in the depiction of Islam. After
Moody tells Betty that he had been fired from the hospital, he comes up with the idea of living in Iran
with his family. Betty did not like this idea because she

Analysis Of The Poem If I Were Paul
Intercession: an interposing or pleading on behalf of another person. In Mark Jarman s poem, If I
Were Paul, the speaker displays many changes in tone and diction to illustrate the crux of his ideology.
The first three stanzas are completely exalting in their nature. The speaker uses three distinct
categories to do this: creation of a being, virtue of an idea, and discovery of an object, and each of the
first stanzas are devoted to one of these topics. Each of these subsets are purposefully selected to
create a tone of artistry and fascination in the beginning stanzas of the poem. Eventually, the speaker
changes tone to display the hypocrisy in the modern church. To a superficial reader, the speaker is
rebuking a congregation, but further analysis reveals the speaker is attempting to write as a
contemporary Paul of Tarsus, pointing out inconsistencies in the modern Christian faith. The first
stanza deals strictly with how you were made. The speaker uses eloquent, articulate verbiage to
express the imp1ressiveness of how you were made. The speaker begins by asking the reader to
consider the loving geometry and passionate symmetry with which he or she was created. This causes
the reader to consider who or what created him or her, and being that the title refers to a biblical
character, most would undoubtedly assume the creator to be God. The mention of God oftentimes is
connoted with concepts pure, holy, and righteous. Moreover, this would lead a person of

The Persuaders Report on documentary for marketing class
In this documentary, PBS uncovers the evolution of marketing. Marketing has moved from targeting
large groups, to targeting individuals and smaller segments. With so many messages being transmitted
through the media, the line between what is being absorbed and what is not has become blurred.
Getting through the clutter is difficult. Every thing is done to break through the clutter. Therefore,
marketers need to market to only those who really want to hear the message, and to get those people
that hear that message, to have an emotional response to it.
One of the ways to break through the clutter in advertising is to create meaning through emotional or
spiritual branding. Marketers are targeting consumers in a way that tries to get ... Show more content

Song is not just a company but an attitude. They looked for people who had what they thought were a
character trait called song, as if someone could be song. Employees auditioned by acting in character
and demonstrating their song attitude. Their attitude was not only a representation of what their
product was, but their attitude was the product as well. The utilization of creating an attitude that
mirrored the attitude that the consumer wanted in a product was not just appropriate, but genius. Their
goal was a good one, to create something that communicates with the person on another level, aimed
at heart and not the head.
When trying to emotional brand someone, pun intended, one must appeal to those feelings or causes
that elicit an emotional response, one that leads to brand loyalty. Brands become an invitation into a

leads to brand loyalty. For example, picture a Cherios commercial that shows a baby and a grandma

The Concept Of Loyalty In Percy Jackson And The Olympians
The concept of loyalty has been prevalent throughout history and literature. One example is the book
series Percy Jackson and the Olympians. This series surrounds a teenage boy, Percy Jackson, who is a
demigod living in New York City. It blends ancient Greek mythology evil monsters and jealous gods
with current predicaments. One of the themes touched on in Percy Jackson and the Olympians is the
concept of a fatal flaw, or a trait that a hero possesses that will eventually bring about their downfall.
Percy s fatal flaw is loyalty. The strengths and weaknesses of strong loyalty are explored deeply in the
series. Loyalty is a strong motivating factor in not jst stories stories, but also in life. I believe that
strong loyalty to those closest to you can bring many benefits. Strong loyalty brings rewards through
small moments that make a lasting memory. Over spring break, I went to the beach with my friend
Marissa. We had a great time building sand castles and walking along the shore, but Marissa refused
to get in the water because of her sensitive skin. After a painstaking half an hour working on our moat
(and another ten minutes on the actual castle), we were done. Recklessly, I ran into the water,
submerging myself in the salty waves. I laughed and waved at Marissa, knowing she was not going to
follow. I told myself I d stay in for just a minute longer, and then I would go back to the shore. I sank
below the waves once more, fully expecting to return to Marissa on the shore. When I shook the
stinging water from my eyes, I was astounded to see Marissa wading in after me. I yelled out a
surprised greeting and swam back to meet her. We swam until we got tired, using the big waves to
propel us and slamming into the smaller waves. She did not end up regretting her ocean venture, even
though her skin burned for a short time after we left the water. She was loyal to me, even with
something as small as jumping in the ocean when she knew it would sting her skin, which brought her
fond memories and a fun time. That meant a lot to me because she had been adamant about not
wanting to swim, yet she came in the water with me because she knew I wanted to; she valued my
feelings above hers. Caring for other people,

Nomadic Human Hazing
Introduction
What is hazing? As stated by Alvarez D.M. (2015) hazing can be defined as the practice of initiating
new members into a group, often through harassment and humiliation . (p.43) However, if hazing is so
bad why is it still around, wouldn t an intelligent society discontinue harmful practices? Both the act
of hazing and the willingness to be hazed are rooted in the deepest parts of human nature. Any social
animal relies on its group members to survive. New members of a group are thoroughly vetted in all
social species; this can be seen most clearly in wolves. A lone wolf attempting to join a new pack must
follow a certain form of behaviors, if the new wolf is not deemed worthy it is either driven off or
killed. Ancient nomadic humans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It would be used as an additional form of correction for offenders (Mowrey, R., 2012. The general
form of punishment for hazing is dismissal from the organization (Mowrey, R., 2012.) This is not the
same as dismissal from the school, generally a person is dismissed from a fraternity, sorority, team or
community they were a part of. This form a punishment, though a strong deterrent, has its drawbacks
although common, the dismissal approach fails to address the harm done to the affect communities,
such as the team, school, or organization. (Mowrey, R., 2012). Restorative justice is not some mythical
state that requires chanting and incense. What would happen is that the offenders and the affected
parties would meet after the original punishment. The affected person or persons would state exactly
what they were thinking during the hazing and what they need to feel right again (Mowrey, R., 2012).
The offender would not be left voiceless, they would be given time to speak about what they were
thinking and what they feel is just repayment. This sounds like it might just be a waste of time, but it
is actually proven to decrease revenge acts against victims, it also increases the amount of satisfaction
victims feel with their cases (Mowrey, R., 2012). Often the perpetrators offer genuine statements of
remorse (Mowrey, R.,

Nitrogen Essay
Nitrogen
Nitrogen, symbol N, gaseous element that makes up the largest portion of the earth s atmosphere.
The atomic number of nitrogen is 7. Nitrogen is in group 15 (or Va) of the periodic table.
Nitrogen was discovered by the British physician Daniel
Rutherford in 1772 and recognized as an elemental gas by the French chemist, Antoine Laurent
Lavoiser about
1776.
Nitrogen is a colorless, odorless tasteless, nontoxic gas. It can be condensed into a colorless liquid,
which can be compressed into a colorless, crystalline solid.
Nitrogen exists in two natural forms, and four radioactive forms (artificial). Nitrogen melts at 210.01
degrees C, ( 349.02 F), boils at 195.79 C
(320.42 F), and has a density of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nitrogen compresses about 4/5ths by volume of the atmosphere.
Nitrogen is inert and serves as a diluent for oxygen in burning and respiration processes. It is an
important element in plant nutrition; certain bacteria in the soil convert atmospheric nitrogen into a
form, such as nitrate, that can be absorbed by plants, a process called nitrogen fixation. Nitrogen in the
form of protein is an important constituent of animal tissue. The element occurs in the combined state
in minerals, of which saltpeter (KNO ) and Chile saltpeter (NaNO ) are commercially important
products.
Nitrogen combines with other elements only at very high temperatures of pressures. It is converted to
an active form by passing through an electronic discharge at low pressure. The nitrogen so produced is
very active, combining with alkali metals to form azides; with the vapor of zinc, mercury cadmium,
and arsenic to form nitrides; and with many hydrocarbons to form hydrocyanic acid and cyanides, also
known as nitriles. Activated nitrogen returns to ordinary nitrogen in about one minute.
In the combined state nitrogen takes part in many reactions; it forms so many compounds that a
systematic scheme of compounds containing nitrogen in place of oxygen was created by the American
chemist Edward Franklin. In compounds nitrogen exists in all the valence states between 3 and +5.
Ammonia, hydrazine, and hydroxylamine represent compounds

Monterey Bay Experience Essay
In order to gain more knowledge and a better understanding of postcolonial discourses within the
context of the Monterey Bay area I conducted my field research at the Carmel mission. I decided to do
my field research relating to the carmel mission because I am interested in the psychological effects
Native Americans experienced during the creation of the missions and how the missionaries affected
them. In addition, other reasons why I chose this postcolonial issue is because I wanted to gain more
knowledge on the missions, since I was given a very vague historical description in primary school.
Lastly, I was curious in this topic because I wanted to engage in multiple perspectives and to hear
what individuals really knew about the mission. Moreover, the Carmel mission was founded in June of
1770 by Saint Junipero Serra. The mission was primarily built to convert natives, establish territory,
and create stopping points along California. Native american tribes such as the Esselen and other
Costanoan tribes were the main groups who lived in that area who ... Show more content on

Life became difficult because crops were difficult to grow and the missionaries heavily relied on
supply ships. The natives were also having a difficult time adjusting to the strict lifestyle of the
missionaries. Native Americans did not only have to adjust to this new lifestyle but they also
encountered abuse. Physical abuse such as being whipped, burned, raped, and beated were all known
practices. In addition native culture, language, and spiritual practices were often forbidden under the
mission system. In an attempt to free themselves from this form of oppression and unhealthy lifestyle
some indians ran away. Unfortunately, running away from the mission was not enough. The
missionaries would bring back indians to the mission regardless of choice and they would be punished

Environmental Resources Of Port River Estuary
Introduction
An estuary is semi enclosed bay where sea water mixes with freshwater. They are home to 70% of the
world s marine life. The port river estuary defines the areas of North Haven, outer harbour, barker
inlet, Torrens Island, the St Kilda mangroves and other areas near to the coastline. It is located
approximately 20km north west of the city of Adelaide. The following report will discuss the
environmental resources and humans have affected the local ecosystems.
Environmental Resources of the Port River Estuary
The Port River Estuary has a wide variety of natural resources. This is mainly due to its large size. The
Port River Estuary has a 346km2 catchment. In the catchment there are about 6.3km2 of salt marshes,
7.2km2 of mudflat area and 17km2 of mangroves. The Port River Estuary supports the growth of
seagrass, some ground vegetation and many different varieties of fish. Some of the main fish species
that use the Estuary for a habitat are king gorge whiting, yellow fin whiting and southern sea garfish.
The estuary also supports about 57 different species of waterbirds and some dolphins. Due to the
estuary s large size and access to the ocean, the vast majority of South Australia s importing and

Misfit In A Good Man Is Hard To Find

comprehend the consequences of their behavior, by taking responsibility to repair the harm in order to
make things right. Thus, both parties will be interviewed separately, in order to get more information
about each other needs, the finally both parties will come together in the decision process and what
justice is required in this case. However, during the meeting with Terry I analysed that because Mr.
Roberts fails to attend to her needs, by fixing the apartment, etc. Consequently, she declined paying
her rent and refuses to listen to his complaints about where to put the trash etc. She mentioned that she
is financially stable, so there is no problem for her to pay her rent on time, but where comfort is a
concern that is her priority. She said that just as much as paying her rent that will result making her
landlord comfortable, she also wants to be comfortable as well. Therefore, what I analysed here is that
if Mr. Robert pay attention to her needs, she would do the same that will enhance the happiness on
both sides. Thus, fixing the apartment, repairing the soiled and ripped wallpaper, replace some cracked

Personal Learning Management
The question at hand; is it possible to design an application to record high economic value learning
tasks or insights that will allow for periodic review? Yes it is possible, yet there is a level of
complexity to design such an application.
To solve the problem the application needs to determine economic value or insight that will allow for
review the important lessons learned. Each task would need an attribute, assigned a value or a score to
identify which may be of more significance than another. To achieve the output value the application
would be dependent on key user input.

Once the application is implemented it would then be tested, debugged and tested again. Once all this
is complete, documentation would be completed and any additional documentation for the application
from the user perspective would be done for deployment and maintenance of the application.
The program will be developed using object oriented programming. This decision is based on the need
for the program to have several components on the project, ease of use and time constraints. This
approach is being taken in order to minimize coupling and make maintaining the application easier.
The key components of the object oriented approach which are useful to our application are
encapsulation, class and inheritance, methods and messages, and instances and instantiation. Using
this approach a structure can be created representing classes and objects and values assigned or
inherited. It is the goal of the program to use the values from a specific lesson and rate its economic
viability. Sense our application is largely based on values derived from calculations from user input
object oriented appears the best choice. In summary the application is possible with the object oriented
approach and best practices implemented. To develop the full application it would need a small back
end database with fields that a user or rule could query based upon an economic value.

Symbolism In Guernica
Guernica, the title of the painting, is a town in Basque Country, Spain. It was the target of terror
bombing during the Spanish civil war because it was the northern bastion of the Republican resistance
movement.
First, war is depicted as devastating and it cares no one men, women, grandparents, children neither
animals. Everyone is a victim. By looking at the paintings, the people are in pain. With their mouth
open that might mean streaming out their agony; with their fingers wide spread, they might asking for
hands to hold them up. In a war, there are dead people (the baby held by his mom and the lying man);

The light bulb is the symbol of anti war and that Picasso wants the people to open their eyes and to see
what war could bring in our society. Everyone has their limitless potentials that can bring a brighter
future. This makes the painting connected to the present time and the future. Fourth, as interpreted by
Ray (2006), the shape and posture of the bodies express protest while the flaming buildings and
crumbled walls reflect destructive power of civil war. The newspaper background is the means by how
the painted knew the massacre. Both Berger (1980) and Chipp (1988) cited by Ray (2006), believe
that the broken sword in the painting mean defeats of the people. Overall, this is a less optimistic
painting that does not reference to the actual bombing of Guernica (Brunner, 2001). Rather it presents
a visceral depiction of terror, chaos, and grief. Sandberg (1960) quoted that Guernica is a pathetic

Cross Cultural Virtual Teams Essay

The evolution of globalization and the advancement of communication technology have increased the

Having good leadership of any project team is undoubtedly essential for the success of the team. It is
thus imperative for virtual, cross cultural teams to be led properly and carefully so that their cultural

This makes it easier for them to understand words spoken than between members of cross cultural
teams where first languages and accents may differ. For example, I work with a multicultural team and
I often find it difficult to understand my Turkish colleagues when they try to speak English. Many
times I ask questions so that I can get the message they are trying to pass across. It however becomes
frustrating sometimes because a lot of important information often gets lost in the discussion because I
can t understand properly. This has caused delay in meeting business targets in the past.
Cross cultural team members also face a challenge of having to understand that other team members
possibly have a different idea of how to treat their bosses. Drawing from the example of my job team
at work, I noticed that my American team members do not really run their ideas through our team
leader before taking actions. However, my Turkish boss does not like this as he comes from a culture
where everything a subordinate does should be run through the boss for approval. This had caused
strains in the team s effectiveness in the past; until my American team members adapted to fit our
team leader s wishes.
As with my previous example, my American partners often make quick decisions without really
examining the complete consequences of their decisions. This can be traced to their quick and sharp
approach to life while my Turkish and Egyptian counterparts like to look through

conducted for direct kills, instead it was done to see the effects of the deer population and the plant
and vegetation systems surrounding them. The expected effects were that in areas where wolves are
less dense in the region it causes an increase of deer having a negative impact on plants and vegetation
in the surrounding area. The recolonization of wolves in the area is generating trait meditated effects

Scat surveys of the area were conducted to support the collar information. Other information such as
droppings, siting s, and tracks were also recorded and grouped with the surveys. Motion activated and
infrared cameras were used to monitor deer activity in the areas of high or low wolf presence. Three
images per trigger of each camera was taken. This information was gathered over a three week period
during deer season in June August. The information recorded was compared with other studies
including a trophic cascades study in the Rocky Mountains area. The results showed differences in
deer presence (in either high or low areas) in correlation with wolf presence, resulting in impacts of
plant and vegetation density in the areas. High wolf areas contained larger saplings and vegetation
diversity and comparisons of deer presence in low wolf presence areas had negative impacts on
sapling growth. Put together, the results suggest that wolves have a substantial effect on white tailed
deer and a positive impact on sapling and vegetation growth in the Great Lakes forest area. These
results supported previous research that wolves have density and/or trait meditated effects on white
tailed deer. They also provide experimental and manipulated support for previous experiments
suggesting that wolves generate trophic cascades affecting sapling and vegetation growth in various
regions, as well as the Great Lakes forest area. The

Veronese Venus And Adonis
Venus and Adonis painted by Paolo Veronese and his workshop before 1580 is an example of large
scale Italian Renaissance painting. The oil painting towers over the viewer, a scale that is appropriate
for interacting with the goddess. The subject matter, mythology from Ancient Rome, reflects
Humanist values and trends from the 14th to 17th centuries. Venus and Adonis illustrates an excerpt
from Metamorphoses, Book 10 by Ovid that describes the love between the goddess Venus and the
hunter Adonis. Veronese makes compositional and color choices that highlight the beauty of Venus
creating a sense of romance and drama.
The color palette chosen by Veronese consists of mainly warm, earth tones. The vibrancy of Adonis
outfit stands out against the subdued greens, blues, and browns of nature surrounding the figures.
Though Adonis clothes are the most saturated colors in the piece, the most eye catching aspect of the
painting is the whiteness of Venus skin. The light source within the work highlights her torso, more so
than her limbs or face. The emphasis on Venus breasts and stomach could represent ... Show more

The intertwined arms and legs in the center of the painting and the overlapping of their bodies allude
to two becoming one. Additionally, their positions mirror each other, their overlapping bodies are
parallel, and their gazes are cast in the same direction. This mix of limbs contributes to the painting s
overall sense of romance and intimacy. The position of Venus arms and legs, in particular, create the
dramatic element of the piece. As if Veronese caught a snapshot of the two, Venus slightly contorted
body seems to be paused in the middle of a movement. Even so, the painting radiates a stillness. Venus
outstretched body is balanced by Adonis wrapped around her backside. Adonis embrace grounds

Shipping American Jobs Overseas Essay
Shipping American Jobs Overseas Did you know that the nation has lost more than 2.5 million
manufacturing jobs and more than 850,000 professional service and information sector jobs, due to
overseas shipping since 2001? (Aflcio) It is clear to me that some big business companies don t value
the protection of employees very highly. By some big business, ill single one out and state that
Goldman Sachs has shipped approximately 500,000 American jobs overseas in the past few years.
That s about half of the total net job loss during these past years (Aflcio). This shows that companies
are reluctant to stay in American and scared of the current economic situation. It upsets me to see

should receive those tax cuts. Financials have revealed that oversea companies receive government
procurement contracts worth billions of dollars along with their tax breaks. Not only are these
businesses getting cuts on their finances they get financial aid to help them. This money comes from
American taxpayers, and it goes towards a business that does not provide any help towards the country
that is assisting it (Aflcio). The jobs that they do offer are located halfway around the world; this does
no good for the hard working American. These taxpayer financed benefits usually come with very few
strings attached; allowing companies to skim additional profits by performing publicly funded work
overseas (Aflcio). I believe that, in this day and age, companies are always trying to take advantage of
the government and find loop hole. Laws concerning the distribution of government procurement
should be reformed to not encourage the shipping of jobs overseas, but to promote the growth of a
business in America with the assistance of government procurements paid for by the taxpayers who
live in the country.
Forlini 3 To solve these problems I believe that we need to remove other incentives to ship jobs
overseas by taking away the benefits of doing so. One way to remove incentive of shipping jobs
would be to implement a national health care system that would benefit the business, so health care

Real Good Of The Town At Heart Analysis
In a society that values materialistic and useless items, there s still the overbearing detail that it is a
society overruled and essentially run by naivety and selfishness. Today s society is most definitely not
what it was in 1880s, and with good reason. People would much rather ignore what they can then
accept someone else s opinion. An example of this is in politics. No matter how much someone tries,
they will never be equal. Especially in recent elections, families will go to drastic measures and
essentially remove a member from their family if they don t agree with another s opinion. Not only is
this showing that they are naïve, but they re also selfish. Granted there are reasons to agree with their
actions, there s still the voice in their head that is turning them in this direction to the idea of good
versus bad. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the play, Dr. Stockmann says, It is I who have the real good of the town at heart! (30). Thomas was
shown as a naïve man throughout the play, however in this scene especially, he is saying that he has
the real good of the town at heart, yet while he may be right, he was continuously blindsided by his
naivety which resulted in him and his family being shunned from the town. This relates to today s
society as there are often individuals, specifically those in power or who have authority over others,
place themselves on pedestals and preach their messages to masses of supporters yet they re saying
things that come across as insightful or problematic. The masses don t realize this as they too are

The Public s Trust Act Of Law Enforcement
Literature Review of Trust
I want to focus on the public s trust in the profession of law enforcement. Law enforcement
administrators are always looking for ways to enhance their departments image to the communities
they serve. This is a tough task because there are many factors that go into the public s perception of
law enforcement. While a local agency may have a good relationship with its community an incident
may happen across the country with the police misconduct and the local agencies reputation is
damaged because of it. Police Officers have accepted a position that holds a great deal of authority and
their actions are performed in the public eye. They are held by their communities to very high
standards, with traits such as honesty, integrity, equity and professionalism being some of the most
important. Every day thousands of police officers throughout the country do their job in a manner that
is exemplary but it takes the actions of just one officer to tarnish all of these good works.
Unfortunately these situations happen too often and seem to be increasing at an alarming rate.
We define trust as a certain belief and a sense of assurance that is based on strong but not logically
conclusive evidence, or based on some ones character, their ability, or truth that someone or something
has shown over a period of time or over experiences (Cambridge, 2015). Trust makes for a sense of
being safe or of being free of fear, enough so that one s focus can be on

Nuclear Families Research Paper
In society, there are many nuclear families that have different ways of raising their children due to
social classes that remain present. Nuclear families consist of a pair of adults and their children. Due
to the different social classes parents take into account different childrearing methods, cultural logic,
and religion affiliation. When raising their children families in a higher Asantie Yeboah 5 class, take
care of their children through concerted cultivation. They put their children in numerous activities
such as club teams which control a family s life, particularly for the mothers. The reason behind this is
because parents believe these activities are important skills to learn for their children. Families also in
a higher class talk to their children to discipline them. Parents in the working class and poor class
apply natural growth. Many parents of the working class provide love, food, and safety anticipating
their children will advance and succeed. They do not focus on developing their children s special
talents. For this reason, working class children have more free time and better relationships with their
extended families. Working class and poor also use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

First Confederate Flag
It is quite hard to answer this question, because the confederates have more than one flag. There exists
the first confederate flag which is blue with one white star. Next there are two versions of the first
confederate national flag. Both with red and white stripes and blue square on top left corner, one with
seven stars forming a circle, the other with thirteen stars forming a circle. Then there is the

Comparing Memory Test Performance
The author of the following excerpt concluded that the study was statistically significant. The
hypothetical research article compared memory test performance between two groups of participants:
those who consumed a caffeinated beverage before the test and those who consumed a non caffeinated
beverage:
An independent samples t test was conducted to examine the difference between experimental
conditions on test performance. The results indicated a significant difference between participants who
consumed the caffeinated beverage and participants who did not, with participants in the caffeinated
group (M = 7.64, SD = 2.41) performing worse than participants in the non caffeinated group (M =
9.81, SD = 3.16), t (97) = 2.14, p .05.
It tells that the t statistic with 97 degrees of freedom was 2.14, and the corresponding p value was less
than .05, specifically around 0.035. Therefore, it is appropriate to conclude the research study was
statistically significant.
But what does a statistically significant result really mean?

The Determinants Of Foreign Direct Investment
Topic and Motivations
The topic of my dissertation is about the determinants of foreign direct investment (FDI) in
developing countries. With the trend of economic integration, FDI has been considered as an
important part of boosting the economic development within any country around the world. Foreign
direct investments differ entirely from indirect investments such as portfolio management. The direct
way of investing in a foreign country can be conducted in a number of ways either by establishing
overseas controlled corporations, or associate company abroad, by obtaining shares of an
multinational company, or though a joint venture.
Almost all of the countries are trying to attract FDI, as inward FDI could bring host countries a

This study is focused on the two aspects: market seeking FDI and resource seeking FDI. These two
aspects which influence the determination of FDI can be denominated by some numerical variables. In
terms of market seeking, GDP and the rate of inflation can be used to measure the market size and
market growth respectively. The sum of exports and imports of goods and services indicates the
openness of an economy, which also means the availability of access to regional and global markets.
On the other hand, raw materials and human capital are the key elements for those resource seeking
enterprises. Thus, labour cost per worker in logs denotes human capital. With all the variables above, a
specific regression model are able to build to investigate the research question.
Theory of the study
FDI has grown strongly with the rapid speed of globalization. There are a few theories which attempt
to explain the motives for and determinants of it. The early theory arose on the basis of international
business. Another theory that is well accepted is called New Economic Geography. This study is based
on the theory derived from the eclectic paradigm of Dunning. Dunning (1977) introduced three types
of advantages in terms of determining the location of FDI, which are owner specific advantage,
location specific advantage and internalization specific advantage.

draws impurities from your pores, and eliminates black heads. Mix one cup of raw oatmeal and 1/8
cup of water in a blender, and blend until smooth and pasty. If it is too runny, add a little more oatmeal

Stereotypes In The Babysitter
For this week s blog I ve decided to discuss the two dichotomizing views of women portrayed in the
first thirty minutes of the horror comedy movie The Babysitter. This horror comedy Netflix original
movie tells the story of Cole, a young teenager who is one of the last of his age to still have a
babysitter. The film presents two schemas of women in American society: the first as the sexy, young,
promiscuous babysitter and the other as the suburban superwoman. The superwoman stereotype is
defined by Harris and Sanborn as the portrayal of women who appear to handle the demands of career,
marriage, and parenting with amazingly little stress and difficulty (Harris Sanborn, 2014, p. 81).
The movie s discussion of the babysitter as being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think the effect of the portrayals of women in this film will have different effects depending on the
audience. From the babysitter portrayal girls and young women may learn a particular script about
what a babysitter should be and/or do. Older women, may compare themselves to the script of
attractiveness the babysitter embodies and find themselves lacking.
For the superwoman portrayal, women in similar positions may see how easy the mom in this film
makes fulfilling these obligations look and again may find themselves lacking in comparison. Both
young girls and older women could see this portrayal of the superwoman as the societal average of
what a woman should be able to achieve. This could lead young girls to place an expectation on
themselves in future. Overall, I found little in these two depictions of women to be supportive of a
positive portrayal of women in the

The Effects of Cold on Blood Pressure and Pulse
THE EFFECTS OF COLD ON BLOOD PRESSURE AND PULSE
Abstract
The ability known as thermoregulation is a feature of an organism that help to keep the body
temperature within certain thresholds, thus independently from external conditions. A dynamic state of
thermal balance of human body between its internal environment and the territory is a model example
of precise control of organism heat. In the case where such stability would be disturbed the immediate
response would appear as well. In accordance with the thermodynamic principles the flow of the heat
will occur without change of the state (Houdas and Ring, 1982). Moreover, temperature coordination
is closely related to the changes within the cardiovascular system as well. To ... Show more content on

Title
At a glance at modern society most would say that it is a close to perfect world. On the contrary, it is
far from perfect; this world is full of war, poverty, and disease. But there more problems on a social
level like stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination causing oppression within society. ... as official
policy decision appear to redefine the importance of human interaction in terms of economic
relationship... Ruiz and Mínguez (2001) observe that such environments prompt immoralities such as
poverty, inequality, and exclusion (qtd. in Lucey, Agnello, and Hawkins 2). Homophobia can be
described as an antipathy towards homosexual individuals. Those individuals are subjected to
prejudice, stereotypes, and discrimination in their social and political lives. From the foreword of The
Bluest Eye by Toni Moorison, Moorison states There can t be anyone, I am sure, who doesn t know
what it feels like to be disliked, even rejected, momentarily or for sustained periods of time... It may
even be that some of us know what it is like to be actually hated hated for things we have no control
over and cannot change. Homosexuality has many misconceptions surrounding the lifestyle; from
disease to personality traits. The social life of those individual was not the only thing affected; their
rights as a human being have been restricted. Laws have been made in certain countries that says a

Although, without racial discrimination readers wouldn t be introduced to a shy character named

Scout is still very young during the book and doesn t seem to quite understand all that is happening.
She thinks that her father is of very old age, but in reality he is not. For instance, Atticus was feeble:
he was nearly fifty (Lee, 118). Additionally, Harper Lee told the book from Scout s point of view to
show a child s perspective, but perhaps Miss Maudie s narration of the play was of greater importance
to the audience.
Changing the narration of the story helps the audience understand, but changing the opening scenes
helps them follow the story. Another difference between the book and the play is that the book opens
with Jem breaking his arm, while the play opens with Its a sin to kill a mockingbird. The author,
Harper Lee, wanted to symbolize the meaning of the mockingbird in the story. In addition,
mockingbirds don t harm humans in anyway. Mockingbirds simply sing for everyone to enjoy with
pleasure. Lee writes That s why it s a sin to kill a mockingbird (119). In the play, they started with It s
a sin to kill a mockingbird to emphasize the importance of the saying throughout the story. The
difference between the opening scenes helps readers follow along, while the difference in the setting
of the fight scene allows the audience to

Church Ministry Essay
The history itself of the decree on the ministry and life of the priests is an extensive one and difficult
to summarize. The possibility of having just a disciplinary decree dealing with practical matters of
ministry and spiritual life was considered, but the conciliar fathers gradually became more aware of
the need to say something in regards to the priests, something comparable to what the Council had
said about the bishops and the laity. That is to say, the decree would have to refer to the doctrine, but
they realized this a bit too late to make major changes. The last date for rejection of De Vita et

spiritual effectiveness. The other conception, however, insists on the mission of the priest, a mission
which he receives from Christ through the sacrament: that is, the priest, since he becomes an assistant
to the Order of Bishops, acts in the person of Christ for the edification of church. Fact is, both
conceptions bring to light an aspect of great importance in the ministry and life of the presbyters.
Therefore, the commission will be careful to show how both conceptions harmoniously combine and
are in fact completed, so that they go together in the unity of the priestly ministry. Nonconformities

Dylan s portrayal of desperate and changing times in the 60s was evident through his use of literary
devices through the portrayal of metaphor, allusion, and repetition. Using biblical references through
the use of allusion, starting with the allusion to the bible by the phrase Come gather round people, by
claiming he used the inclusion of the Sermon on the Mount, Dylan is no stranger in lack of beautiful,
poetic usage in his song. To add on, the allusion goes to exemplify that change is bound to come,
knowingly or not, to men and women of all races, status, and gender. Dylan s usage of metaphors
spoke in philosophical manners and as well in general terms, but was easily able to be translated in its
appropriate context in its period of time referring to the civil rights struggle and the hippie counter
movement. Using metaphorical phrases such as the relation to the individual to the reference of a
stone that is sinking or swimming (Dylan 8), as well as the battle that is raging it ll soon shake the
windows and rattle the walls (Dylan 25 26) are all a means of Dylan explaining in simple means that if
one wants to make time worthwhile, then one better start living life to the fullest, or otherwise they
may drown as time passes by. In regards to repetition, Dylan uses the pattern of rhyme schemes. For
example in his third verse, Please heed the call...Don t block up the hall (Dylan 20 22) the word call
perfectly rhymes with hall and There s a battle outside ragin ...For the times they are a changin (Dylan

The Theory Of Folk Psychology
Eliminative materialism (eliminativism) is an ontologically radical approach that claims that a
matured cognitive science will show that mental states that common sense takes for granted, such as
beliefs, do not exist (or do not have referents). Instead, it claims that these mental entities are
theoretical terms for the false theory of folk psychology (common sense psychology), which can be
defined as the cognitive ability to explain and predict the behaviour and mental state of other people.
In essence, the theory aims to discredit folk psychology by claiming that people will discover that
there is no neural basis to mental entities and thus, they are non existent. I shall argue that there are
significant fundamental flaws to both the arguments for eliminativism about propositional attitudes
and eliminativism about qualia (subjective experience). For the former, I will argue that the
eliminative materialist s theory theory is flawed and show that propositions alone can discredit the
position on philosophy of mind. This will lead to identifying the position as self refuting. Furthermore,
I will show that science itself has proven simulation theory to be true so that I can discredit
eliminative materialism. For the latter, I will argue that qualia exist due to introspection. Combined,
the deconstruction of eliminative materialism with regards to propositional attitude and qualia will
show that the materialist position is flawed and should not be agreed with.

Analysis and summery of MCDP 2, Leading Marines.
Leading Marines is the greatest resource that I have come across so far for guidance and motivation in
becoming a leader of Marines. In one neat sentence located in the forward, we are given everything
that sums up what is expected of future leaders of Marines: Our actions as Marines every day must
embody the legacy of those who went before us. Marines have a great expectation to live up to, and as
commissioned officers we must absolutely carry on the tradition of excellent leadership that has come
before us. This leadership comes in many forms under many different conditions. As there are no two
people who are exactly alike, there is no single way to lead. Leadership is learned not born; one must
utilize personal traits and experiences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our country was a maritime nation at its birth in 1775 and still is today. Four of Five capitals are
within 300 miles of a coast, demonstrating the importance of an infantry force from the sea to national
security. Together, the individual Marine, similar indoctrination, every Marine a rifleman , and our
maritime heritage make up the Marine tradition.
The second chapter of Leading Marines is titled Foundations. It lays out the foundation of every
Marine leader; it is a collection of the principles taught to all Marines. Our core values, and Marine
leadership principles make up the bulk of the chapter. Leadership is what makes men take action
against their most basic instinct of self preservation. Leadership is based not only on the Marine ethos,
but also on certain elements of leadership philosophy. The elements rely on each other, and
collectively they serve to help guide a Marine leader in decision making. These values must be
reflected in a leaders action, otherwise the follower has no faith in the leader and the words become
hollow and meaningless. As Marines, we are held to a higher standard then the rest of society because
of the nature of our profession. Just because we carry arms and have an awesome amount of power,
does not mean that we can do as we please. With the application of force comes a strict liability,
requiring the individual

Ll Bean Case
L.L. Bean, Inc. Case Study Paper
L.L. Bean, Inc. was started in 1912 by Leon Leonwood Bean to sell his invention of the Main Hunting
shoe and was marketed to sports hunters via a mail order circular. Leon Gorman, L.L. s grandson,
succeeded him as president in 1967, and continued to build the company with his Grandfather s
golden rule in mind, Sell good merchandise at a reasonable profit, treat your customers like human
beings, and they ll always come back for more (Schleifer, 1993). The company would continue to
grow into a major catalog distributor, manufacturer, and retailer of outdoor sporting merchandise
(Schleifer, 1993).
The catalog has been the driving force of sales for L.L. Bean and is released throughout the year in
several versions: spring, summer, fall, and Christmas. Full catalogs, consisting of all the available
merchandise items offered were sent to regular customers. Potential customers, discovered through

Bean is an application of a probability distribution based on prior year demand errors. The errors are
applied to each item, both never out and new items for the current catalog. There is no consideration
of the impact of applying this distribution is calculated with prior year new item data and applying it
to current year new items, should be a major issue of concern for management. The demand forecast
method should be able to help control inventory levels, Stuart Dunkin (2013) states, An inventory
replenishment system that is based on a demand forecast (demand driven) can reduce the risk of lost
sales while improving service. L.L. Bean s current inventory control does not control the risk of lost
sales, Rol Fessenden, L.L. Bean s Manager of Inventory Systems, recognizes the current difficulty
they have with predicting customer demand, and that the high demand items they are unable to get
more inventory for, . . . leave us just turning customers away (Schleifer,

A Report On The Industrial Energy Audit Essay
1. Methodology
The industrial energy audit may be divided into three main parts: the survey, the analysis and the
proposed measures. The expected result of the energy audit is a number of measures that will increase
the energy efficiency, switch from non renewable to renewable sources and decrease the energy use of
the company. The result is normally presented in a report. In the three parts of the audit we have
different tasks:
Energy survey What do we have?
Define the system boundary.
Identify unit processes.
Quantify energy supply.
Allocate energy use to different unit processes. Energy analysis How bad is the utilization of the
supplied energy? Where does it go wrong? How far can we reach?
Identify both system errors and detail problems.
Identify idling power and energy.
Identify technologies that are far from BAT (Best Available Technology).
Identify mismatching energy quality, where high quality energy is used for non demanding purposes,
for example, electricity for low temperature heating.
Identifying barriers and driving forces.
Sum up the potential for energy efficiency and conversion for the system as a whole.
Suggested measures What can we do about it? Identify possible solutions.
Calculate the impact of the solutions and analyze them. Calculate the economic impact.
Top down approach and iterative method
the energy audit is basically a project with the aim to suggest energy efficiency and conversion

Neuropathic Pain Case Study
Many clinical conditions require bone or tissue regeneration and current therapeutic options
(pharmacotherapy, neurosurgical lesioning, and anesthetic blocks) do not provide effective long term
relief associated with the accompanied neuropathic pain. Regenerative therapy uses a patient s own
tissues to initiate the healing process. Two regenerative treatments currently being offered are stem
cell and platelet rich plasma therapy. The use of adult stem cells for bone and tissue regeneration has
gained much focus. This unique population of pluripotent cells has been isolated from various sources
including bone marrow, adipose, and muscle cells. Genetic engineering of adult stem cells with
osteogenic genes has led to rapid bone union and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2015). The goal of regenerative medicine is to restore function through therapy at levels such as the
gene, cell, tissue, or organ. For stem cells, physicians will obtain a patient s own stem cells by
aspirating tissue from the patient s hip bone or from their fat cells. These cells are centrifuged down to
identify and separate specific primitive cells that will help heal tissues (Alessandri et al., 2004). For
PRP, a patient s own blood is used and centrifuged down to obtain healing growth factors and the
platelets (Pantou et al., 2012). These are rich in protein to help stimulate healing. Once these products
are obtained, doctors are able to re introduce them into the patient s injured tissues. Regeneration of
tissues and ligaments have accomplished significant improvement in patient outcomes without
surgical intervention.
Discussion
Stem Cells Stem cells are unique cells that have self renewing properties and are able to differentiate
into one or many different specialized cell types. Pluripotent stem cells are generally abundant in
embryonic or fetal tissues, but the use of discarded embryos as sources of these cells raises many
ethical problems. Thus, adult stem cells are commonly used because they can differentiate into a wider
variety of cell types: bone marrow, adipose tissue, and skin tissue cells (Alessandri et al., 2004). The
use of adult stem cells has resulted in several advantages including a low

  • 3. Not Without My Daughter Film Analysis: Not Without My Daughter The film Not Without My Daughter depicts both positive and negative responses to the Islamic religion. The film starts off with the couple of Moody and Betty, and their daughter, Mahtob. In the opening scene, the family is depicted of being loving, humorous, and supportive. The culturally unbiased and multi faceted portrayal of Islam in this film is accomplished by including both negative aspects, through depicting gender discrimination and positive aspects, by presenting women as being respectful. Moody is employed as a doctor. In the break room, Moody overhears his coworkers talking poorly about Iran. Betty was caught off guard when told she must wear a veil. She learns that most women in Iran choose to wear the Chador as a sign of respect. I consider this as a positive aspect of Islam. It is the women s choice to wear a veil which is looked at as being respectful. From this film, I could understand that gender roles are very important in the depiction of Islam. After Moody tells Betty that he had been fired from the hospital, he comes up with the idea of living in Iran with his family. Betty did not like this idea because she ... • 4. Analysis Of The Poem If I Were Paul Intercession: an interposing or pleading on behalf of another person. In Mark Jarman s poem, If I Were Paul, the speaker displays many changes in tone and diction to illustrate the crux of his ideology. The first three stanzas are completely exalting in their nature. The speaker uses three distinct categories to do this: creation of a being, virtue of an idea, and discovery of an object, and each of the first stanzas are devoted to one of these topics. Each of these subsets are purposefully selected to create a tone of artistry and fascination in the beginning stanzas of the poem. Eventually, the speaker changes tone to display the hypocrisy in the modern church. To a superficial reader, the speaker is rebuking a congregation, but further analysis reveals the speaker is attempting to write as a contemporary Paul of Tarsus, pointing out inconsistencies in the modern Christian faith. The first stanza deals strictly with how you were made. The speaker uses eloquent, articulate verbiage to express the imp1ressiveness of how you were made. The speaker begins by asking the reader to consider the loving geometry and passionate symmetry with which he or she was created. This causes the reader to consider who or what created him or her, and being that the title refers to a biblical character, most would undoubtedly assume the creator to be God. The mention of God oftentimes is connoted with concepts pure, holy, and righteous. Moreover, this would lead a person of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Marketing has moved from targeting large groups, to targeting individuals and smaller segments. With so many messages being transmitted through the media, the line between what is being absorbed and what is not has become blurred. Getting through the clutter is difficult. Every thing is done to break through the clutter. Therefore, marketers need to market to only those who really want to hear the message, and to get those people that hear that message, to have an emotional response to it. • 8. The Concept Of Loyalty In Percy Jackson And The Olympians The concept of loyalty has been prevalent throughout history and literature. One example is the book series Percy Jackson and the Olympians. This series surrounds a teenage boy, Percy Jackson, who is a demigod living in New York City. It blends ancient Greek mythology evil monsters and jealous gods with current predicaments. One of the themes touched on in Percy Jackson and the Olympians is the concept of a fatal flaw, or a trait that a hero possesses that will eventually bring about their downfall. Percy s fatal flaw is loyalty. The strengths and weaknesses of strong loyalty are explored deeply in the series. Loyalty is a strong motivating factor in not jst stories stories, but also in life. I believe that strong loyalty to those closest to you can bring many benefits. Strong loyalty brings rewards through small moments that make a lasting memory. Over spring break, I went to the beach with my friend Marissa. We had a great time building sand castles and walking along the shore, but Marissa refused to get in the water because of her sensitive skin. After a painstaking half an hour working on our moat (and another ten minutes on the actual castle), we were done. Recklessly, I ran into the water, submerging myself in the salty waves. I laughed and waved at Marissa, knowing she was not going to follow. I told myself I d stay in for just a minute longer, and then I would go back to the shore. I sank below the waves once more, fully expecting to return to Marissa on the shore. When I shook the stinging water from my eyes, I was astounded to see Marissa wading in after me. I yelled out a surprised greeting and swam back to meet her. We swam until we got tired, using the big waves to propel us and slamming into the smaller waves. She did not end up regretting her ocean venture, even though her skin burned for a short time after we left the water. She was loyal to me, even with something as small as jumping in the ocean when she knew it would sting her skin, which brought her fond memories and a fun time. That meant a lot to me because she had been adamant about not wanting to swim, yet she came in the water with me because she knew I wanted to; she valued my feelings above hers. (p.43) However, if hazing is so bad why is it still around, wouldn t an intelligent society discontinue harmful practices? Both the act of hazing and the willingness to be hazed are rooted in the deepest parts of human nature. Any social animal relies on its group members to survive. New members of a group are thoroughly vetted in all social species; this can be seen most clearly in wolves. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nitrogen compresses about 4/5ths by volume of the atmosphere. Nitrogen is inert and serves as a diluent for oxygen in burning and respiration processes. It is an important element in plant nutrition; certain bacteria in the soil convert atmospheric nitrogen into a form, such as nitrate, that can be absorbed by plants, a process called nitrogen fixation. Nitrogen in the form of protein is an important constituent of animal tissue. The element occurs in the combined state in minerals, of which saltpeter (KNO ) and Chile saltpeter (NaNO ) are commercially important products. Nitrogen combines with other elements only at very high temperatures of pressures. It is converted to an active form by passing through an electronic discharge at low pressure. The nitrogen so produced is very active, combining with alkali metals to form azides; with the vapor of zinc, mercury cadmium, and arsenic to form nitrides; and with many hydrocarbons to form hydrocyanic acid and cyanides, also known as nitriles. Activated nitrogen returns to ordinary nitrogen in about one minute. In the combined state nitrogen takes part in many reactions; it forms so many compounds that a systematic scheme of compounds containing nitrogen in place of oxygen was created by the American chemist Edward Franklin. Monterey Bay Experience Essay In order to gain more knowledge and a better understanding of postcolonial discourses within the context of the Monterey Bay area I conducted my field research at the Carmel mission. I decided to do my field research relating to the carmel mission because I am interested in the psychological effects Native Americans experienced during the creation of the missions and how the missionaries affected them. Summary Of Trophic Cascades In A Great Lakes Forest The Summary of Trophic Cascades in a Great Lakes Forest This investigative study included whether gray wolves, a natural top predator to white tailed deer, create a trophic effect by reducing the deer and how it may affect saplings and vegetation in the Great Lakes forest area. The study was not conducted for direct kills, instead it was done to see the effects of the deer population and the plant and vegetation systems surrounding them. The expected effects were that in areas where wolves are less dense in the region it causes an increase of deer having a negative impact on plants and vegetation in the surrounding area. Scat surveys of the area were conducted to support the collar information. Other information such as droppings, siting s, and tracks were also recorded and grouped with the surveys. Motion activated and infrared cameras were used to monitor deer activity in the areas of high or low wolf presence. Three images per trigger of each camera was taken. This information was gathered over a three week period during deer season in June August. The information recorded was compared with other studies including a trophic cascades study in the Rocky Mountains area. The results showed differences in deer presence (in either high or low areas) in correlation with wolf presence, resulting in impacts of plant and vegetation density in the areas. High wolf areas contained larger saplings and vegetation diversity and comparisons of deer presence in low wolf presence areas had negative impacts on sapling growth. Put together, the results suggest that wolves have a substantial effect on white tailed deer and a positive impact on sapling and vegetation growth in the Great Lakes forest area. These results supported previous research that wolves have density and/or trait meditated effects on white tailed deer. They also provide experimental and manipulated support for previous experiments suggesting that wolves generate trophic cascades affecting sapling and vegetation growth in various regions, as well as the Great Lakes forest area. • 20. Veronese Venus And Adonis Venus and Adonis painted by Paolo Veronese and his workshop before 1580 is an example of large scale Italian Renaissance painting. The oil painting towers over the viewer, a scale that is appropriate for interacting with the goddess. The subject matter, mythology from Ancient Rome, reflects Humanist values and trends from the 14th to 17th centuries. Venus and Adonis illustrates an excerpt from Metamorphoses, Book 10 by Ovid that describes the love between the goddess Venus and the hunter Adonis. Veronese makes compositional and color choices that highlight the beauty of Venus creating a sense of romance and drama. The color palette chosen by Veronese consists of mainly warm, earth tones. The vibrancy of Adonis outfit stands out against the subdued greens, blues, and browns of nature surrounding the figures. Though Adonis clothes are the most saturated colors in the piece, the most eye catching aspect of the painting is the whiteness of Venus skin. By some big business, ill single one out and state that Goldman Sachs has shipped approximately 500,000 American jobs overseas in the past few years. The jobs that they do offer are located halfway around the world; this does no good for the hard working American. These taxpayer financed benefits usually come with very few strings attached; allowing companies to skim additional profits by performing publicly funded work overseas (Aflcio). I believe that, in this day and age, companies are always trying to take advantage of the government and find loop hole. Laws concerning the distribution of government procurement should be reformed to not encourage the shipping of jobs overseas, but to promote the growth of a business in America with the assistance of government procurements paid for by the taxpayers who live in the country. Real Good Of The Town At Heart Analysis In a society that values materialistic and useless items, there s still the overbearing detail that it is a society overruled and essentially run by naivety and selfishness. Today s society is most definitely not what it was in 1880s, and with good reason. People would much rather ignore what they can then accept someone else s opinion. An example of this is in politics. No matter how much someone tries, they will never be equal. Especially in recent elections, families will go to drastic measures and essentially remove a member from their family if they don t agree with another s opinion. Law enforcement administrators are always looking for ways to enhance their departments image to the communities they serve. This is a tough task because there are many factors that go into the public s perception of law enforcement. While a local agency may have a good relationship with its community an incident may happen across the country with the police misconduct and the local agencies reputation is damaged because of it. Police Officers have accepted a position that holds a great deal of authority and their actions are performed in the public eye. They are held by their communities to very high standards, with traits such as honesty, integrity, equity and professionalism being some of the most important. Every day thousands of police officers throughout the country do their job in a manner that is exemplary but it takes the actions of just one officer to tarnish all of these good works. The sum of exports and imports of goods and services indicates the openness of an economy, which also means the availability of access to regional and global markets. For the superwoman portrayal, women in similar positions may see how easy the mom in this film makes fulfilling these obligations look and again may find themselves lacking in comparison. To add on, the allusion goes to exemplify that change is bound to come, knowingly or not, to men and women of all races, status, and gender. Dylan s usage of metaphors spoke in philosophical manners and as well in general terms, but was easily able to be translated in its appropriate context in its period of time referring to the civil rights struggle and the hippie counter movement. Using metaphorical phrases such as the relation to the individual to the reference of a stone that is sinking or swimming (Dylan 8), as well as the battle that is raging it ll soon shake the windows and rattle the walls (Dylan 25 26) are all a means of Dylan explaining in simple means that if one wants to make time worthwhile, then one better start living life to the fullest, or otherwise they may drown as time passes by. • 40. The Theory Of Folk Psychology Eliminative materialism (eliminativism) is an ontologically radical approach that claims that a matured cognitive science will show that mental states that common sense takes for granted, such as beliefs, do not exist (or do not have referents). Instead, it claims that these mental entities are theoretical terms for the false theory of folk psychology (common sense psychology), which can be defined as the cognitive ability to explain and predict the behaviour and mental state of other people. In essence, the theory aims to discredit folk psychology by claiming that people will discover that there is no neural basis to mental entities and thus, they are non existent. I shall argue that there are significant fundamental flaws to both the arguments for eliminativism about propositional attitudes and eliminativism about qualia (subjective experience). For the former, I will argue that the eliminative materialist s theory theory is flawed and show that propositions alone can discredit the position on philosophy of mind. This will lead to identifying the position as self refuting. Furthermore, I will show that science itself has proven simulation theory to be true so that I can discredit eliminative materialism. For the latter, I will argue that qualia exist due to introspection. Combined, the deconstruction of eliminative materialism with regards to propositional attitude and qualia will show that the materialist position is flawed and should not be agreed with. In one neat sentence located in the forward, we are given everything that sums up what is expected of future leaders of Marines: Our actions as Marines every day must embody the legacy of those who went before us. Marines have a great expectation to live up to, and as commissioned officers we must absolutely carry on the tradition of excellent leadership that has come before us. This leadership comes in many forms under many different conditions. As there are no two people who are exactly alike, there is no single way to lead. Our country was a maritime nation at its birth in 1775 and still is today. Four of Five capitals are within 300 miles of a coast, demonstrating the importance of an infantry force from the sea to national security. Together, the individual Marine, similar indoctrination, every Marine a rifleman , and our maritime heritage make up the Marine tradition. The second chapter of Leading Marines is titled Foundations. It lays out the foundation of every Marine leader; it is a collection of the principles taught to all Marines. Our core values, and Marine leadership principles make up the bulk of the chapter. Leadership is what makes men take action against their most basic instinct of self preservation. Leadership is based not only on the Marine ethos, but also on certain elements of leadership philosophy. The elements rely on each other, and collectively they serve to help guide a Marine leader in decision making. These values must be reflected in a leaders action, otherwise the follower has no faith in the leader and the words become hollow and meaningless. As Marines, we are held to a higher standard then the rest of society because of the nature of our profession. Just because we carry arms and have an awesome amount of power, does not mean that we can do as we please. With the application of force comes a strict liability, requiring the individual ... • 44. A Report On The Industrial Energy Audit Essay 1. Methodology The industrial energy audit may be divided into three main parts: the survey, the analysis and the proposed measures. The expected result of the energy audit is a number of measures that will increase the energy efficiency, switch from non renewable to renewable sources and decrease the energy use of the company. The result is normally presented in a report. In the three parts of the audit we have different tasks: Energy survey What do we have? Define the system boundary. Identify unit processes. Quantify energy supply. Allocate energy use to different unit processes. Energy analysis How bad is the utilization of the supplied energy? Where does it go wrong? How far can we reach? Identify both system errors and detail problems. Identify idling power and energy. Identify technologies that are far from BAT (Best Available Technology). Identify mismatching energy quality, where high quality energy is used for non demanding purposes, for example, electricity for low temperature heating. Identifying barriers and driving forces. Sum up the potential for energy efficiency and conversion for the system as a whole. Suggested measures What can we do about it? Identify possible solutions. Calculate the impact of the solutions and analyze them. Calculate the economic impact. • 46. Neuropathic Pain Case Study Many clinical conditions require bone or tissue regeneration and current therapeutic options (pharmacotherapy, neurosurgical lesioning, and anesthetic blocks) do not provide effective long term relief associated with the accompanied neuropathic pain. Regenerative therapy uses a patient s own tissues to initiate the healing process. Two regenerative treatments currently being offered are stem cell and platelet rich plasma therapy. The use of adult stem cells for bone and tissue regeneration has gained much focus. This unique population of pluripotent cells has been isolated from various sources including bone marrow, adipose, and muscle cells. Genetic engineering of adult stem cells with osteogenic genes has led to rapid bone union and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2015). The goal of regenerative medicine is to restore function through therapy at levels such as the gene, cell, tissue, or organ. For stem cells, physicians will obtain a patient s own stem cells by aspirating tissue from the patient s hip bone or from their fat cells. These cells are centrifuged down to identify and separate specific primitive cells that will help heal tissues (Alessandri et al., 2004). For PRP, a patient s own blood is used and centrifuged down to obtain healing growth factors and the platelets (Pantou et al., 2012). These are rich in protein to help stimulate healing. Once these products are obtained, doctors are able to re introduce them into the patient s injured tissues. Regeneration of tissues and ligaments have accomplished significant improvement in patient outcomes without surgical intervention. Discussion Stem Cells Stem cells are unique cells that have self renewing properties and are able to differentiate into one or many different specialized cell types. Pluripotent stem cells are generally abundant in embryonic or fetal tissues, but the use of discarded embryos as sources of these cells raises many ethical problems. Thus, adult stem cells are commonly used because they can differentiate into a wider variety of cell types: bone marrow, adipose tissue, and skin tissue cells (Alessandri et al., 2004). The use of adult stem cells has resulted in several advantages including a low ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
