Eyewitness Testimony And The American Psychological...
For centuries, even before the rise of modern law and judicial practices, eyewitness testimony has
been a crucial part in reaching verdicts in court. The opinions and observations of bystanders or active
participants in a crime scene are often considered to be very valuable in determining the guilt or
innocence of accused individuals. However, there has been a large amount of scrutiny in the law world
concerning both misappropriated and untrue testimonies administered in courts of law. Although the
testimony of individuals can simply be misinterpreted or forgotten due to a variety of reasons,
eyewitnesses also provide information that can purposefully incriminate or exonerate a defendant.
Ultimately, despite its benefit in putting deserving persons behind bars, the use of eyewitness
testimony can absolutely be a dangerous monster for the innocently accused in different scenarios.
Despite thorough research supporting the dangers of eyewitness testimony, and the constant press by
the American Psychological Association (APA) and different law, psychology, and forensics experts,
there are no national guidelines conducting how law enforcement agencies gather eyewitness
identifications. In an APA brief, suggested by researchers and the Innocence Project, sent to the
Pennsylvania Supreme Court, it discussed how juries often don t understand the factors that can
influence a witness ability to accurately identify a suspect. Such factors include how much stress a
witness is under,

Confucian Analects And Ban Zhao s Lessons For A Woman
Though authored possibly centuries apart, the Confucian Analects and court historian Ban Zhao s
Lessons for a Woman have far more similarities than they do differences. The truth is that when
considered in the context of their societies, the two texts actually serve to complement each other, and
do so quite successfully. Technically written as instructions on maintaining order and progress in
government and society, the Analects are very widely directed (Bentley, Traditions and Encounters,
101). While some of the text claims to be private conversations between Confucius and other men, the
instructions and suggestions are universally applicable. As all of the teachings of Confucius, the
Analects are not meant to answer theological or spiritual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ban Zhao begins her text utilizing a bit of her own advice. She humbles herself immediately in a
rather demeaning opening paragraph regarding her own educational background. The text covers the
three primary functions of women in ancient Chinese society: as unmarried daughters, as wives and
mothers, and their role in the preservation of spiritual matters. She stresses the development of four
womanly qualifications that include virtue, words, bearing and work (Ban Zhao, Lessons for a
Woman, 4). The basic virtues of women stem from (similarly to the Analects) humility, and respect. A
true quietness of spirit and mind, a lack of foolishness, and an exhibit of modesty are required to
demonstrate the true humility of a woman (Ban Zhao, Lessons for a Woman, 4). She is also to possess
a diligence in labor that surpasses those around her; putting others always before herself. These traits
are to be developed and displayed even before marriage, as without them, how can her name be
honored; how can [a woman] but bring disgrace on herself? (Ban Zhao, Lessons for a Woman, 2).
Humility is stressed at the foundation of respect and

JFK assassination
Everyone knows about John F. Kennedy s assassination and everyone knows that it is still a mystery
who exactly killed him. Today people still do think th think that Lee Harvey Oswald killed Kennedy.
But I think Lee Harvey Oswald setup by someone. For example was Lee Harvey Oswald The only one

I think Lee Harvey Oswald was set up because could never have gotten from the second floor to the

Coram Boy Essay
What do we learn about life in the 18th century and how successfully does the writer convey this
information whilst telling us a good story?
The story is set in the 18th century and includes factual information which plays a vital part in the
storyline. It uses this information whilst entertaining the readers with a fictional storyline. It is based
on one thing in particular, hence the title The Coram Boy , this is The Coram Hospital.
A main factor in the storyline is the way the writer portrays society s attitude to poverty in the 18th
century. The poor people were treated tremendously different to higher classed people. A lot of people
were even living on the streets. For example, He picked his way through the hordes of homeless ...

Alexander is much higher classed. It shows how he feels to be in the company of those higher classed.
This is then contrasted by The food was borne in on silver platters by white gloved manservants; food
he had never even seen before: venison pie, partridge breasts, grilled trout, slivers of ham, trifle with
cream and jam, cheese and little biscuits this shows the wealth of Alexander s family. These two
examples clearly show the difference between different classes.
The next main factor in the story is society s attitude towards illegitimacy. Any woman who bore a
child out of wedlock was treated with disgust and held an air of shame and disgrace. This caused those
who did happen to have their children out of wedlock to give them up and send them off to
orphanages in hope their child would be alright. A lot of these single mothers tried to send their
children to one such orphanage called The Coram Hospital . An example is when Melissa, a young girl
just found out she was pregnant and says And Mama? What about Mama? The disgrace. We ll both be
thrown out. Destitute. This is a good example of the consequences of illegitimacy. If anybody found
out about such circumstances the mother and her acquaintances would be thrown out and homeless.
The writer includes this factual information in the story and it entwines

Out Of All The Homeless Essay
A righteous man knows the rights of the poor; a wicked man does not understand such knowledge.
Proverbs 29:7. It was a regular Wednesday in the summer, I was down in Toronto for the day to
celebrate my birthday. My friends and I decided to go to a local burger shop that was known for their
bacon cheeseburgers called Burger Priest . We decided to sit on the countertop beside the window for
a nice view of the city while we eat. While I was eating the burger I couldn t help but to notice down
on the streets a figure of someone sitting down, in fact I could multiple figures sitting down. All of
them were homeless people begging for change to try and get them through the day.

Electrophoresis Analysis
Agarose gel electrophoresis used for the separation of the fragments was based on the migration of the
negatively charged DNA to the positively charged anode. DNA has a uniform mass/charge ratio
therefore allowing the molecules to be separated by size within an agarose gel such that the distance
travelled is inversely proportional to its molecular weight. The rate of migration is controlled by the
following; size of DNA molecule, agarose concentration, DNA conformation, voltage applied
presence of ethidium bromide, type of agarose and electrophoresis buffer.

frost Essay
The Road Not Taken
In line one, Frost introduces the elements of his primary metaphor, the diverging roads. Lines two to
three expresses the speaker s disappointment with his human limitations; he must make a choice. The
choice is not easy, since quot;long I stood quot; before coming to a decision. Lines four and five
examine the path as best the narrator can. However his vision is limited because the path bends and is
covered over. These lines indicate that although the speaker would like to acquire more information,
he is prevented from doing so because of the nature of his environment. In the following three lines,
lines six through eight, the speaker indicates that the second path is a more attractive choice because it

The Road Not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood.
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that, the passing there
Has worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In the leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first foe another day!
Yet knowing how way leads onto way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
The reader can just picture Robert Frost walking in a wooded area of the New Hampshire forest when
suddenly he comes upon a trail that divides and he wrote he Road Not Taken? A poem that has been
used in countless high school graduation speeches and as a metaphor for any situation in which a
person must make an important decision. The simple themes have always appealed to Frost s readers
and seems to speak to people more than a Shakespeare

The Effect of Longer School Days on Children
Do you remember being in elementary school feeling sleepy, wishing you were back in kindergarten
where you were allowed to take naps? Was your brain ever so tired that the only way you were able to
stay awake was by daydreaming or talking to friends while the teacher was teaching? That is the case
with many students in the United States. Not only does the current school schedule prove to be
unproductive to students, but also adding longer hours to a school day can have more damaging
effects than positive ones. In the 1970 s the school days used to be 5.5 hours with two recess breaks in
the day and one extended lunch period where children were allowed to go home and eat. Now the
school days are 6.5 hours with one recess break if the child is in elementary school, and a short lunch
break. The public school system has been struggling for a while and the drop out rate has been
increasing in a fast and steady speed. The solution to this problem, by the representatives of our city, is
to add another two hours to the school day. This is not only happening in Chicago, but it is happening
all across the country. If you look back at the 1970 s times where simpler, more family oriented,
children were better behaved, and students did well academically. A small change like adding hours to
a school day can do a lot of long lasting damage that can result in other areas of your life. An example
is by having a long day at work. After a while of being at work employees get tired and they do

Entire Contract Principle in Construction Industry
Entire Contract Principle in Construction Industry
Entire contract principle is an understanding and agreement that has always been a concern of many
parties in the construction world. Construction activity is activities that constitute a complete unity and
hard to be done partially. A variety of factors make a construction contract different from most other
types of contracts. These include the length of the project, its complexity, its size and the fact that the
price agreed and the amount of work done may change as it proceeds. In Gilbert Ash (Northern) Ltd v
Modern Engineering (Bristol) Ltd [1974] AC 689 at 717 Lord Diplock described a building contract as

The duty of performance under many contracts is contingent upon the occurrence of a designated
condition or promise. A condition is an act or event, other than a lapse of time that affects a duty to
render a promised performance that is specified in a contract. A condition may be viewed as a
qualification placed upon a promise. A promise or duty is absolute or unconditional when it does not
depend on any external events. Nothing but a lapse of time is necessary to make its performance due.
When the time for performance of an unconditional promise arrives, immediate performance is due. A
dependent or conditional promise is not effective until the occurrence of some external event that the
parties have specified. An implied condition is one that the parties should have reasonably
comprehended to be part of the contract because of its presence by implication. The failure to comply
strictly with the terms of a condition will not prevent recovery if there has been substantial
performance of the contractual obligation. Courts created this doctrine in order to prevent forfeitures
and to ensure justice. Where recovery is permitted for substantial performance, it is offset by damages
for injuries caused by failure to render complete performance. Courts determine whether there has
been a breach or a substantial performance of a contract by evaluating the purpose to be served; the

Symptoms And Treatment Of Ayurveda
In Ayurveda, diseases are grouped by causes: genetic (adibalapravritta), congenital
(janmabalapravritta), constitutional (doshabalapravritta), traumatic (sanghatabalapravritta), seasonal
(kalabalapravritta), infectious and spiritual (daivabalapravritta), as well as natural
(swabhavbalapravritta) (Warrier, 1997, p. 130). They can also be classified depending on their effect,
intensity, cause, what part of the body is affected, and what treatment is best. Examples of genetic
ailments include asthma, tuberculosis, asthma, epilepsy and some mental disorders. Congenital
disorders include deafness and blindness. Seasonal disorders include frostbite. Most diseases are
considered to be caused by spiritual means, especially according to those strictly rooted in their Indian
culture. Ayurvedic treatment depends on the disease, prognosis, and state of the patient but usually
consists of drugs and diet. Plant based medicines are at the center of the Ayurveda healing process.
Various herbs and medicines are commonly used for treatment including taleespatradi vatakah, which
is used to treat kapha related illness (Warrier, 1997, p. 140). Other common medicines and herbs are
trivrt, rasna, candana, bala, anu taila, and pasamoola rishtum to name just a few of the many options
available. Common diseases or illnesses that occur in India include fevers, malaria, headaches, heart
problems and many other diseases (Albert et al, 2015). According to the Khasi and Garo tribes of

Environmental Justice Model
This memo presents and overview of the environmental justice movement and the importance of
economic models like hedonic valuation to control for underlying factors of discrimination. The paper
concludes with a study of the relationship between an industrial composting facility and property
values in Maple Valley, Washington.
Background
Rooted in the civil rights movement, environmental justice emerged in the 1970s before gaining
nation s attention in the early 1980s. In 1982, a nonviolent demonstration protesting a PCB landfill in
Warren County, North Carolina brought the concern of discriminatory siting to the public and
prompted further investigation.

In addition, total living area is positive and significant, with values increasing 0.02% per additional
square foot. Views from the property also increased value by 21%. Although not quite statistically
significant, traffic noise on the property may decrease value by 6.8%.
When calculated into distance and time groupings, the value of properties within one mile of the
facility were 21.2% higher than those further away. Across time periods, the prices of properties sold
between 2010 2014 were 14.5% lower than earlier years. This indicates a possible decreased
desirability of the area, overall, despite the booming real estate market in King County.
The independent variables only explain about 30% of the variation in sale price, making it difficult to
determine if the facility influences local property values or if $75,000 in damages is appropriate for
the residents of the area, based on the analysis above.
Considerations
Because this analysis focuses on sales of single family properties, it does not accurately portray the
changing rental landscape or the sale of multifamily residential properties in the area. Additionally, the
focused area limited the sample

12 Angry Men Rhetorical Analysis
One of the most valuable abilities an individual can possess is dauntlessness and the art of persuasion.
In the film 12 Angry Men by Reginald Rose, twelve members of the jury must determine and issue a
final decree on whether an inner city teenager is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt or not guilty of his
father s murder. Despite the numerous factual evidence provided, a majority of the jurors are
convinced without reasonable doubt that the young boy is guilty and should be sentenced to death.
These abilities are undoubtedly illustrated when one juror decides to stand against eleven jurors in
transforming the fate of the teenage boy. The individual is Juror 8. He utilizes the act of courage to
stand against the other jurors in what he believes is an unfair judgment and also uses persuasion to
alter their decisions. Through analyzing juror 8 s dialogue and his employment of rhetorical
techniques with each juror, the readers can discern his unique traits of courage and persuasion. First,
Let s examine Juror 8 s demeanor. He appears to be a gentle, quiet and an astute man. In the initial
jury vote, he is the only juror that votes not guilty while the rest votes guilty. Thus, he exhibits that he
is a man that values justice and is willing to fight for it. His display of dubitatio is recognized when he
says, I don t know whether I believe it or not. Maybe I don t. (Lumet Rose, 1957). He is uncertain
whether the boy is innocent or guilty but merely seeks the truth. He further states that it is not easy for
him to send a boy off to die without talking about it first (Lumet Rose, 1957). While justifying to Juror
7 why he cast a not guilty vote, Juror 8 utilizes pathos to sway the jurors. Look, this boy s been kicked
around all his life. You know, living in a slum, his mother dead since he was nine. That s not a very
good head start, he says (Lumet Rose, 1957). Juror 8 points to the boy s poor upbringing in a bid to
persuade the others to reconsider discussing the case before making a hasty judgment. He also uses his
moderate touch and amiable expressions to calm Juror 9 from the comments made by Juror 10.
Consequently, it is apparent that Juror 8 s attitude in determining facts to the

Aldi Store Analysis
On Friday after class, I went to the ALDI store in Anderson to make a purchase and to get some

Everything was stacked on top of each other and very close with barely any walking space. There

you need; it was like looking for a needle in a haystack. As I can continue to walk through out the

It was a lower level brand with a similar design. They even had packages that look like it could be

Pros And Cons Of Repealing Obamacare
A somewhat impertinent question to the GOP: Were you lying the whole time about repealing
Obamacare? History has taught us that sometimes it s inflection points are difficult to discern in the
moment. Often it takes events around these points to provide context. Examining the past is through
the objective lens of hindsight makes it easy to determine these points, but not so for those in the
midst of them. However, one can use past events and the immutable laws of human nature to look
ahead and see if present events meet the standard of an historic turning point. In the case of present
events one can make an educated guess as to the consequences of the two choices before you. At
present the GOP has a choice to make with regard to the fiscal abomination of Obamacare. It can
either chose the path laid out for it by the Socialists on the nation s Left and set a course towards
historic oblivion. Or it can return to it s principled roots of preserving liberty. ... Show more content on

Towards A Phenomenology Of Dwelling Summary
In Towards a Phenomenology of Dwelling, Lisa Guenther puts forth thought on dwelling, and doing
so responsibly. She brings up the idea of a person s daimon, which I like to think of as a person s
conscious. It tells you the possible things that you can do, both good and bad, but ultimately, only you
can decide what you will do. The visual of an angel and the devil sitting upon either shoulder comes to
my mind. Others are more aware of your daimon than you are, and this is because there are parts of
yourself that you do not see. Whether this be physical, like your habits, tendencies, and body language
or not visible like your desires, most of the time, others are more aware of this than you are. Desires

Un People, Un But, Une Foi
Un People, Un But, Une Foi
After going through a rut during the Middle Ages, culture, exploration, and power boomed all over the
world during the Renaissance. European explorers traveled down the coast of Africa, and in one of the
least explored areas, which became known as Mali, they found a culture not replicated in the rest of
the world. Mali never wanted to be oppressed, and this led to a lot of conflict throughout its history
from ancient times to as recently as today. Though Mali has had a tumultuous past, buried underneath
the rubble of many wars and conflicts is a culture unlike any other in the world, a foundation not
based on government but on traditions dating back almost two thousand years.
Archaeologists know from ruins that Mali has been populated for about 50,000 years. During ancient
times, part of the Sahara was a fertile grassland, and farming was introduced to this land in 5000 BCE.
The earliest traceable civilization in Mali is the Ghana Empire, which began in 300 BCE (Baxter 1).
Lasting until the thirteenth century A.D., the Ghana Empire ruled most of northwestern Africa. Ghana,
defined as leading or first, controlled from the Niger basin to the Atlantic until its collapse and the
establishment of the Mali Empire in the thirteenth century (African History: An Illustrated Handbook

The Mali Empire, one of the most powerful empires in the country s history, ruled until 1591 and
gained their success by trading gold, salt, and slaves to the Europeans. The

First Generation Student Essay
First generation students can easily blend in with all other college groups, but can be distinguished by
them self disclosing, on a check box or drop down menu, during the application process. A first
generation student is one who is the first in their family to attend a four year university in pursuit of a
bachelor s degree. This particular group of students lacks Precollege preparation, study skills, and
major exploration, to name a few. They also suffer from a phenomenon known as the Imposter
Phenomenon, which states it is a feeling the students receive that is far beyond not fitting in, but
thoughts so deep that the students feel they do not deserve to be at the institution and the experience
should have gone to someone else (Davis, p. 49). Thoughts of having to meet with a professor face to
face instills fear in many first generation students and it takes time for them to gain courage to
approach office hours and build awareness of multiple resources the campuses have to offer, in which
they can take advantage of (Davis, p. 52). Community Colleges have been increasing the number of
students and the fastest growing population is that of first generation students. California Community
Colleges Chancellor s Office reports that first generation student population is slightly above 40% and
on the rise. A community college is the perfect place to offer the group sessions I have put together

The Between Creationism And Creationism
The first words in the Bible are, In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1,
English Standard Version). This statement leaves a question for modern day society. Does this verse
mean God created the universe in six literal days and rest on the seventh? Or could it possibly mean
this was a non literal text that leaves room for the possibility of evolution. Evolution and Creationism
have been battling over this issue for many years. What must be realized before examining these two
theories is the fact that both require faith. Requiring faith means neither can be proven right
completely. These two theories bring to light the literal and non literal reading of Genesis 1 and 2.
Creationism believes in the literal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The non literal interpretation of the Holy Scripture can be seen in two points of view: Old Earth
Creationism and Theistic Evolution. Old Earth Creationism believes God created everything out of
nothing, the same as Young Earth Creationism, but does not think it was done over a literal six days,
so it can be considered as semi literal (Fowler, 2010). They believe each day meant a period time; and
thus think the earth is over four billion years old. This view point combines evolutionary theory with a
semi literal translation with the text in Genesis 1 and 2. This leads to a very long process of thinking
and an even harder process to explain. Theistic Evolution differs and takes the approach that God
caused the Big Bang and used evolution to create the universe and thus takes a non literal approach
(Marinov, 2014). This means that they believe everything was created through evolution, but with God
s hand guiding it. This theory coincides with modern scientific thought. The authority of scripture
plays a role in the non literal and semi literal interpretations of scriptures. In order to have a non
literal, or semi literal viewpoint on interpretation, one has to understand that that it means they cannot
think the Bible is completely accurate with every aspect and thus cannot be taken literally. This means
that the text is meant to taken literarily and

You also remember there is a web site that explains the COSO framework and make a note to yourself
to explore this resource tonight (http://www.coso.org/). In addition, you know that most large CPA
firms have published information for their clients on the implementation of the COSO framework that
is available on their respective websites. You only have one week to get ready for the meeting. Besides
not eating at lunchtime, you probably won t be going anywhere this weekend.

1. The Control Environment establishes the tone of a company and influences the control awareness of
the employees. It is the foundation for all the other internal control components and provides
discipline and structure for the entire business operation (Bagranoff, Simkin, and Strand 2005, 110).
2. The purpose of Risk Assessment is to identify organizational risks, analyze their potential in terms
of costs and likelihood of occurrence, and install those controls whose projected benefits outweigh
their costs (Bagranoff, Simkin, and Strand 2005, 111).
3. Control Activities are the policies and procedures that an organization develops to help protect the
assets of the firm (Bagranoff, Simkin, and Strand 2005, 111).

Analysis Of The Poem The Usns Bob Hope
The USNS Bob Hope is a US Navy cargo ship named after the famous entertainer Bob Hope. It may
seem odd for a naval vessel to be named after an entertainer, but what Hope did for the Navy and the
military as a whole is worth the honor. Bob hope performed at hundreds of USO shows spanning 50
years. He dedicated much of his life to supporting US military efforts in the wars the country
participated in between the years of 1941 1991. Although Bob Hope may not have been a great
military leader like many other ships namesakes, but what Hope did shows great leadership in other
less expected ways. Leslie Townes Hope was born on May 29, 1903 in Eltham, London. His family
emigrated from England to the United States in 1908. Hope dropped out of school at age 16, and he
tried a few different career options before he eventually landed on entertainer. He started out taking
dance lessons and then working in small vaudeville shows. He started to gain some success with his
partner act before he discovered that he had a talent as a master of ceremonies (MC). He then split
from his partner in order to pursue this, and he was more successful as an MC. As Leslie Hope
continued to gain popularity, he decided that a name like Bob had a better sound to it; from then on he
was known to all as Bob Hope. In the early 40 s before the US was at war, Bob Hope performed for a
radio show, and In May 1941, the producer of the show convinced Hope to record the show at a live

and conduct of persons and businesses engaged in commerce, merchandising, trade, and sales. It is
often considered to be a branch of civil law and deals with issues of both private law and public law.
Business law is very important when starting a business. It will help you operate your business
without the hindrances of ignorance. Business law will help you prepare for issues pertaining to
Zoning Laws, Licensing Laws, Tax Laws, Trademark and Patent Laws. Once you got your business
running, you will need to know how to protect your business from things like lawsuits, creditors, the

When dealing with Military allotments, Soldiers will go out and purchase lavish and expensive items
such as cars, furniture, computers and gaming systems with ridiculous interest rates. The soldiers were
allowed to walk into businesses and purchase items with no money down and take it home the same
day. With no cap on how many allotments a Soldier can have, he or she will miscalculate their
monthly spending and at the end of the month have no money left for necessities. The Soldiers then
cancel the allotments in turn failing to fulfill and obligation to pay for their goods. Once the Soldier
stop making payments, companies will then file for an involuntary allotment to get their money. It is
Department of Defense (DoD) policy that military members pay their just financial obligations in a
proper and timely manner. Creditors who have been awarded a civil judgment against a military
member may seek enforcement of the judgment by applying for an involuntary allotment from the
member s military pay . (Collecting a Debt, 2014) Mrs. George also stated that so many Soldiers were
getting suits filed against them that the Army started to investigate the companies and found that the
companies were targeting and taking advantage of Soldiers and their families. On 1 June 2015,
Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel changed the policy pertaining to military allotments. The new policy

George Washington A Good President Essay
The United States has been blessed with many great presidents throughout the years. Some had even
helped restore the country when leaders before hadn t helped it succeed. One great president is the 1st

country. He was tall, rich, and born into the Virginian Gentry, which was helpful for the national
leadership in his time. His morals are continuously looked upon to follow. He passionately spread the

Political historian Thomas A. Bailey of Standford stated, Lincoln was undeniably a great man... In
spirit, in humility, in humanity, in magnanimity, in patience, in Christlike spirit, in capacity for growth,
in political instincts, in holding together a discordant political following, in interpreting and leading
public opinion and in seizing with bulldog grip the essential idea of preserving the Union. Lincoln was
a political genius. His greatness shined when he brought the nation through its crisis. Democrats had
hoped that the Kansas Nebraska Act would calm the passions of the slavery issue. Because this had an
opposite effect, Lincoln not only saw this, but crafted a rhetorical concept of both the crisis and a
pathway for getting through it. He made a way for the 13th amendment, getting rid of slavery in the
U.S.. His perseverance and determination not only saved the Union, but insured, in his own words, a
new birth of freedom and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish
from the earth. Along with his leadership skills, Lincoln had a great personality and was very
empathetic towards others. People gravitated towards him for his presence. Lincoln sought the good in
those around him. His speeches are considered some of the best speeches in

Lydia Seated In A Cafe Analysis
Lydia Seated in a Lounge, by Mary Cassatt, and Au Café, by Edouard Manet, are two pieces of work
that were created in the modern era. Both paintings possess the characteristics of modern paintings;
the quick, light brush strokes that portrays a sense of ephemerality and movement. However, these two
works differ heavily when placed in the social contexts of the time period, which revolved heavily
around the idea of sexuality. From 1860 1900, the social fabric of Paris transformed enormously, and
as a consequence, the social perception of women and men changed drastically. Looking at the two
paintings, gender plays a paramount role in the understanding of the subject as well as the painting as
a whole. This idea is further emphasized by the idea of the Flaneur, the Gaze, and the social spheres
that were formed at the time. During this period, the idea of separate spheres came into being as a
consequence of increased social interactions. There were public spheres, such as the cafes, restaurants,
and theaters, which were occupied predominately by men. Women on the other hand occupied the
private sphere, which consisted of their homes and other much more secluded areas. For women to go
to these cafes and expose themselves to the public degraded them in the eyes of society. Some would
go as far to say that for a woman to maintain her respectability and femininity, it was best not to
expose herself to the public at all. (Pollock) The context of the painting emphasizes this idea

Workplace As Part Of Continuous Improvement
Many companies have chosen to follow the route towards a 5S workplace as part of continuous
improvement. This type of system allows a company to dispose and remove unnecessary items
properly, prevent the accumulation of these items, and help decipher if these are costs that need to be
rid of. Costs tend to pile up on businesses and companies in the form of wastes and defects. Some
situations that are an example of this are utilization suffering because item changeovers take too long,
product is rushed in because an important part cannot be found, and output not meeting its full
potential because of crew to crew variations (Bresko 2014). Many companies attempt to advance
through Six Sigma, Lean, or other initiatives. However, some studies have been reported that two
thirds of other initiatives fail to meet the expectations of the organization leaders (Ghodrati and
Zulkifli 2013). Learning about the certain methods of the different systems is not the issue when
putting these into play, but putting them into their daily organizational actions is. Some of these
situations where they fail to put these into play is process improvement, continuous improvement, and
the procedures of the initiatives not being long standing. The process of 5S is a great way to add to
culture change and to involve people. 5S is aimed to simplify larger productivity, quality, and safety
measures. It is also very visual in the aspects of organization, cleanliness, and planning. It is a base for

Airplane Invention
Evolve
What is the definition of the word invent? Dictionary.com states that invent means to originate or
create as a product of one s own ingenuity, experimentation, or contrivance. Inventions have shaped
the world and helped the earth evolve incredibly. Without these developments, the lives of everyone in
the world would not be the same. Computers, phones, televisions, houses, and many other creations
would not exist. However certain inventions prove to stand greater than others, including phones,
airplanes and light bulbs.
Firstly, telephones, invented by Alexander Graham Bell, have proven to benefit people in drastic
situations. They help one interact from lengthy distances. For example, if a family has an emergency,
the fastest method to contact a member is to call them. After the invention of telephones, cell phones
developed. Cell phones are most likely of the most used inventions ... Show more content on

They help incredibly with traveling overseas or flying long distances. The successful creators of the
amazing aircraft were the Wright brothers: Wilbur and Orville. Their miraculous invention placed the
world in awe, for no one considered that the idea of flying was possible. The development, used for
war and traveling, exists as one of the safest ways of transportation. Thus, airplanes remain as one of
the best and most useful inventions in the world.
Conclusively, light bulbs, invented by Thomas Alva Edison, prove to be extremely helpful in life.
They illuminate the world and lighten the gloomy night. If light did not exist, everyone would
probably find themselves using fire and lanterns to see, which could result in hazardous outcomes. For
example, if candles were left unattended throughout the night, then they could tip over and possibly
create a massive fire. Lights, found everywhere, including streets, houses, and cars, assist people at all
times. Therefore, light bulbs stand as a safe and valuable

Bolshevik Party Essay
The Bolshevik party was based on Marxist ideals, ideals which sought to rid society of class conflict
and create an egalitarian society. After the fall of the provisional government, the Bolsheviks were
now able to implement an economic policy of their own, introducing a form of communism called
War Communism . It was a form of strict communism that, amongst many things, took money out of
circulation and banned private enterprise. It should, therefore, seem surprising that the Bolshevik
government got rid of this policy, a policy which espoused many Marxist principles of destroying
interclass conflict through the abolition of private enterprise, and replacing it with the NEP, a policy
which at first glance, may resemble something much more capitalist orientated than would one expect
of a party based on communist ideals. The NEP was a policy that reintroduced a free market and
capitalism, both subject to state control . This may have therefore have been a step back from
achieving a Marxist utopia in the Russian State but it can be argued that the continuance of war
communism would have ultimately led to the utter economic collapse of the Russian state and the
NEP prevented this from occurring.
A major criticism of the NEP was that it simply was not a policy ... Show more content on

What Is The Divide Between The Paleolithic Period And The...
The divide between the Paleolithic period and the Neolithic period could not be greater. However,
both time periods rely on each others advancements for the ultimate development of art, and
architecture. The Paleolithic time period is divided into three sections, lower, middle and upper. This
time period is essentially the beginning of human control over the environment. Humans were now
beginning to leave their mark, so to speak. During this time period, humans relied on hunting, fishing,
and farming for their survival, they began drawing in caves at this time. Cave art was the ancient
version of murals. The art depicted what the ancient culture valued most, life. During this time period,
creation was important and essential. Artists depicted everyday life and animals because that is what
they depended on for their livelihood.

Procedure:
Obtain a preserved sheep brain from the bucket and place this on a dissection tray.
Examine the outer surface of the brain and locate the dura matter (the outer toughest layer of the
brain).
Remove the dura matter.
Place the brain on dissecting tray and position its ventral surface upward. Identify olfactory nerve,
optic nerves, optic chiasm, pons, medulla oblongata, and spinal cord.
Position the brain with its ventral surface down and identify cerebral hemispheres, cerebral lobes
(frontal, parietal, temporal, and occipital), cerebellum, longitudinal fissure, and transverse fissure.
In same position (with the ventral surface downward), make a longitudinal cut along the longitudinal
fissure using a scalpel all the way down, and separate the cerebral hemispheres.

Analysis Of It s Like Everyone
It s like everyone tells a story about themselves inside their own head. Always. All the time. That story
makes you what you are. We build ourselves out of that story (Patrick RuthFuss). When a baby is

rest of the way through life, that person which has been given life, has to find their own path and their
own identity. Although parents teach very dignified lessons of values, it is up to him/her to establish if
they want to adopt the ideals of his/her parents. Lisa Hill from Monkey Beach (Eden Robinson) goes

Lisa Hill has confronted many different forms of inequality throughout the novel. Lisa was walking
through a strip mall in a part of town called Terrace when she saw her friend Erica being chased by a
car full of white men verbally harassing her. Lisa then stepped in to stand up to the men while Erica
called her bigger brother. During that whole ordeal there were many bystanders who did not lend a
hand. Later that day, Lisa went to go meet her aunt Trudy when she told her that If you were some
little white girl, that would be true, but you re a mouthy Indian, and everyone thinks we re born sluts.
Those guys would have said you were asking for it and hot off scot free (Robinson, 255). Although
Lisa was just trying to protect her friend, no one decided to stand up to the white men and help a
teenage girl although there were many people watching. This displays the inequality that the regular
man feels towards the Indians. Furthermore, when Lisa s aunt Trudy was just a small teenager herself,
Lisa s grandmother was forced to send her away to a residential school because she was an Indian.
Trudy did not realize this and put her blame and hate on her mother cause a rift between her and her
mother. If Indian children were allowed to go to regular public schools and had equality between
different ways of life, the fissure between a mother and a daughter would not have been created.
Along with that Eden Robinson also fought for the equality for

undiscussed matter, is climate change; over the years it has played a significant change in driving

by the article is the monitoring of cod numbers, as well as monitoring the seal population. The article

Essay Urban Inequality
Introduction:
In Urban Studies two schools of academic thought answer the urban question : the ecological and
urban political economy schools. I will argue that the political economy perspective better allows us to
fully grasp the urban question where society and space mutually encompass each other and allow us to
better explain and address urban inequality. First, I will develop a working definition of the urban
question . Second, I will write on the ecological school s view of the urban question and how their
vista explains but inadequately addresses urban inequalities. Third, I will review the political economy
(social spatial dialect) landscape of the urban question and how their panorama explains and gives
better analyses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essentially, the political economist asks the urban question in two parts, the first questions asks how
do wider social processes affect urban societies and their relationship to geographical space? The
second question asks: how do wider social, political or economic processes affect spaces which impact
upon wider social, political or economic dynamics? Understanding the two academic schools, I will,
in the next two sections, further argue that the interrelationship of society and space from a political
economy standard better allows us to address and understand urban inequalities.
Society and Space: Ecological thought
The ecological school fails to fully address the modern social dynamic of urban inequality. The
ecological perception sees urban social, political and economic unevenness as urban stratification.
Stratification is the end result from the geography or conditions of the city. Again, the underlying
premise that geographical landscape (space) influences social grouping and behavior (society)
becomes central to the urban question . The ecological notion leaves out any beliefs to wider social,
political and economic processes that address geographic location and impinge upon the social
concept of urban inequality (Burgess, 1925). The urban ecologist see urban racial or ethnic, and
economic

The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The treaty that ended the...
The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which came into effect on 2 February 1848, ended the Mexican
American war and formally resolved territorial disputes resulting from that conflict. The treaty
required the U.S. government to pay the Mexican government $15 million dollars, this in return for an
expanse of territory that later became the states of Arizona, New Mexico, and parts of Utah, Nevada,
and Colorado. I intend to argue that the treaty benefitted the people who inhabited, and later came to
inhabit, that territory. I also propose that, as a result of the transfer of territory from a dictatorial
regime to one that was based on democratic principles, both Mexico and the United States ultimately
benefitted in several ways.
The Treaty of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was, at the time, one of the most populous cities in Northern Mexico, having a population of of
nearly fifteen thousand inhabitants. (The Mexican War 33). About the same time, Taylor and his army
won the battle of Buena Vista. The terrain in northern Mexico is difficult, and water scarce. Perhaps
this is why, after a number of arduous campaigns in the north, Taylor seemed to lose interest in
fighting. Instead of pressing south towards the Mexican capital, he was content to remain in the north.
Because of his lack of fighting spirit, Pres. James Polk lost faith in him as a leader. Instead, he turned
to General Winfield Scott, who lost no time in making for the Mexican capital. The American army
and generals proved significantly superior to the Mexican forces and in less than a year and a half the
American army had captured Mexico City and the Mexican Republic had to sue for an unfavorable
peace. (The Mexican American War).
The treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo contained twenty articles. The most important of these were the
payment of $15 million already mentioned, and the transfer of territory. The U.S. pledged to withdraw
its troops from the Mexican capital, cease its blockading of Mexican ports, and to withdraw all of its
forces from Mexico within three months of the signing of the treaty.

  • 2. Eyewitness Testimony And The American Psychological... For centuries, even before the rise of modern law and judicial practices, eyewitness testimony has been a crucial part in reaching verdicts in court. The opinions and observations of bystanders or active participants in a crime scene are often considered to be very valuable in determining the guilt or innocence of accused individuals. However, there has been a large amount of scrutiny in the law world concerning both misappropriated and untrue testimonies administered in courts of law. Although the testimony of individuals can simply be misinterpreted or forgotten due to a variety of reasons, eyewitnesses also provide information that can purposefully incriminate or exonerate a defendant. Ultimately, despite its benefit in putting deserving persons behind bars, the use of eyewitness testimony can absolutely be a dangerous monster for the innocently accused in different scenarios. Despite thorough research supporting the dangers of eyewitness testimony, and the constant press by the American Psychological Association (APA) and different law, psychology, and forensics experts, there are no national guidelines conducting how law enforcement agencies gather eyewitness identifications. In an APA brief, suggested by researchers and the Innocence Project, sent to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, it discussed how juries often don t understand the factors that can influence a witness ability to accurately identify a suspect. Such factors include how much stress a witness is under, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Confucian Analects And Ban Zhao s Lessons For A Woman Though authored possibly centuries apart, the Confucian Analects and court historian Ban Zhao s Lessons for a Woman have far more similarities than they do differences. The truth is that when considered in the context of their societies, the two texts actually serve to complement each other, and do so quite successfully. Technically written as instructions on maintaining order and progress in government and society, the Analects are very widely directed (Bentley, Traditions and Encounters, 101). While some of the text claims to be private conversations between Confucius and other men, the instructions and suggestions are universally applicable. As all of the teachings of Confucius, the Analects are not meant to answer theological or spiritual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ban Zhao begins her text utilizing a bit of her own advice. She humbles herself immediately in a rather demeaning opening paragraph regarding her own educational background. The text covers the three primary functions of women in ancient Chinese society: as unmarried daughters, as wives and mothers, and their role in the preservation of spiritual matters. She stresses the development of four womanly qualifications that include virtue, words, bearing and work (Ban Zhao, Lessons for a Woman, 4). The basic virtues of women stem from (similarly to the Analects) humility, and respect. A true quietness of spirit and mind, a lack of foolishness, and an exhibit of modesty are required to demonstrate the true humility of a woman (Ban Zhao, Lessons for a Woman, 4). She is also to possess a diligence in labor that surpasses those around her; putting others always before herself. These traits are to be developed and displayed even before marriage, as without them, how can her name be honored; how can [a woman] but bring disgrace on herself? (Ban Zhao, Lessons for a Woman, 2). Humility is stressed at the foundation of respect and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Coram Boy Essay What do we learn about life in the 18th century and how successfully does the writer convey this information whilst telling us a good story? The story is set in the 18th century and includes factual information which plays a vital part in the storyline. It uses this information whilst entertaining the readers with a fictional storyline. It is based on one thing in particular, hence the title The Coram Boy , this is The Coram Hospital. A main factor in the storyline is the way the writer portrays society s attitude to poverty in the 18th century. The poor people were treated tremendously different to higher classed people. A lot of people were even living on the streets. For example, He picked his way through the hordes of homeless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alexander is much higher classed. It shows how he feels to be in the company of those higher classed. This is then contrasted by The food was borne in on silver platters by white gloved manservants; food he had never even seen before: venison pie, partridge breasts, grilled trout, slivers of ham, trifle with cream and jam, cheese and little biscuits this shows the wealth of Alexander s family. These two examples clearly show the difference between different classes. The next main factor in the story is society s attitude towards illegitimacy. Any woman who bore a child out of wedlock was treated with disgust and held an air of shame and disgrace. This caused those who did happen to have their children out of wedlock to give them up and send them off to orphanages in hope their child would be alright. A lot of these single mothers tried to send their children to one such orphanage called The Coram Hospital . An example is when Melissa, a young girl just found out she was pregnant and says And Mama? What about Mama? The disgrace. We ll both be thrown out. Destitute. This is a good example of the consequences of illegitimacy. If anybody found out about such circumstances the mother and her acquaintances would be thrown out and homeless. It was a regular Wednesday in the summer, I was down in Toronto for the day to celebrate my birthday. My friends and I decided to go to a local burger shop that was known for their bacon cheeseburgers called Burger Priest . We decided to sit on the countertop beside the window for a nice view of the city while we eat. While I was eating the burger I couldn t help but to notice down on the streets a figure of someone sitting down, in fact I could multiple figures sitting down. Lines two to three expresses the speaker s disappointment with his human limitations; he must make a choice. The choice is not easy, since quot;long I stood quot; before coming to a decision. Lines four and five examine the path as best the narrator can. However his vision is limited because the path bends and is covered over. Oh, I kept the first foe another day! Yet knowing how way leads onto way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. • 11. The Effect of Longer School Days on Children Do you remember being in elementary school feeling sleepy, wishing you were back in kindergarten where you were allowed to take naps? Was your brain ever so tired that the only way you were able to stay awake was by daydreaming or talking to friends while the teacher was teaching? That is the case with many students in the United States. Not only does the current school schedule prove to be unproductive to students, but also adding longer hours to a school day can have more damaging effects than positive ones. In the 1970 s the school days used to be 5.5 hours with two recess breaks in the day and one extended lunch period where children were allowed to go home and eat. Now the school days are 6.5 hours with one recess break if the child is in elementary school, and a short lunch break. The public school system has been struggling for a while and the drop out rate has been increasing in a fast and steady speed. The solution to this problem, by the representatives of our city, is to add another two hours to the school day. This is not only happening in Chicago, but it is happening all across the country. If you look back at the 1970 s times where simpler, more family oriented, children were better behaved, and students did well academically. A small change like adding hours to a school day can do a lot of long lasting damage that can result in other areas of your life. An example is by having a long day at work. • 12. Entire Contract Principle in Construction Industry Entire Contract Principle in Construction Industry Entire contract principle is an understanding and agreement that has always been a concern of many parties in the construction world. Construction activity is activities that constitute a complete unity and hard to be done partially. A variety of factors make a construction contract different from most other types of contracts. These include the length of the project, its complexity, its size and the fact that the price agreed and the amount of work done may change as it proceeds. In Gilbert Ash (Northern) Ltd v Modern Engineering (Bristol) Ltd [1974] AC 689 at 717 Lord Diplock described a building contract as an entire contract for the sale of goods and work and labor for a lump sum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The duty of performance under many contracts is contingent upon the occurrence of a designated condition or promise. A condition is an act or event, other than a lapse of time that affects a duty to render a promised performance that is specified in a contract. A condition may be viewed as a qualification placed upon a promise. A promise or duty is absolute or unconditional when it does not depend on any external events. Nothing but a lapse of time is necessary to make its performance due. When the time for performance of an unconditional promise arrives, immediate performance is due. A dependent or conditional promise is not effective until the occurrence of some external event that the parties have specified. An implied condition is one that the parties should have reasonably comprehended to be part of the contract because of its presence by implication. The failure to comply strictly with the terms of a condition will not prevent recovery if there has been substantial performance of the contractual obligation. Courts created this doctrine in order to prevent forfeitures and to ensure justice. Where recovery is permitted for substantial performance, it is offset by damages for injuries caused by failure to render complete performance. • 15. 12 Angry Men Rhetorical Analysis One of the most valuable abilities an individual can possess is dauntlessness and the art of persuasion. In the film 12 Angry Men by Reginald Rose, twelve members of the jury must determine and issue a final decree on whether an inner city teenager is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt or not guilty of his father s murder. Despite the numerous factual evidence provided, a majority of the jurors are convinced without reasonable doubt that the young boy is guilty and should be sentenced to death. These abilities are undoubtedly illustrated when one juror decides to stand against eleven jurors in transforming the fate of the teenage boy. The individual is Juror 8. He utilizes the act of courage to stand against the other jurors in what he believes is an unfair judgment and also uses persuasion to alter their decisions. Through analyzing juror 8 s dialogue and his employment of rhetorical techniques with each juror, the readers can discern his unique traits of courage and persuasion. First, Let s examine Juror 8 s demeanor. He appears to be a gentle, quiet and an astute man. In the initial jury vote, he is the only juror that votes not guilty while the rest votes guilty. Thus, he exhibits that he is a man that values justice and is willing to fight for it. His display of dubitatio is recognized when he says, I don t know whether I believe it or not. Maybe I don t. (Lumet Rose, 1957). He is uncertain whether the boy is innocent or guilty but merely seeks the truth. He further states that it is not easy for him to send a boy off to die without talking about it first (Lumet Rose, 1957). While justifying to Juror 7 why he cast a not guilty vote, Juror 8 utilizes pathos to sway the jurors. Look, this boy s been kicked around all his life. You know, living in a slum, his mother dead since he was nine. That s not a very good head start, he says (Lumet Rose, 1957). Juror 8 points to the boy s poor upbringing in a bid to persuade the others to reconsider discussing the case before making a hasty judgment. He also uses his moderate touch and amiable expressions to calm Juror 9 from the comments made by Juror 10. Consequently, it is apparent that Juror 8 s attitude in determining facts to the ... European explorers traveled down the coast of Africa, and in one of the least explored areas, which became known as Mali, they found a culture not replicated in the rest of the world. Mali never wanted to be oppressed, and this led to a lot of conflict throughout its history from ancient times to as recently as today. Though Mali has had a tumultuous past, buried underneath the rubble of many wars and conflicts is a culture unlike any other in the world, a foundation not based on government but on traditions dating back almost two thousand years. Archaeologists know from ruins that Mali has been populated for about 50,000 years. During ancient times, part of the Sahara was a fertile grassland, and farming was introduced to this land in 5000 BCE. The earliest traceable civilization in Mali is the Ghana Empire, which began in 300 BCE (Baxter 1). Lasting until the thirteenth century A.D., the Ghana Empire ruled most of northwestern Africa. Ghana, defined as leading or first, controlled from the Niger basin to the Atlantic until its collapse and the establishment of the Mali Empire in the thirteenth century (African History: An Illustrated Handbook 1). Thoughts of having to meet with a professor face to face instills fear in many first generation students and it takes time for them to gain courage to approach office hours and build awareness of multiple resources the campuses have to offer, in which they can take advantage of (Davis, p. 52). This statement leaves a question for modern day society. Does this verse mean God created the universe in six literal days and rest on the seventh? Or could it possibly mean this was a non literal text that leaves room for the possibility of evolution. Evolution and Creationism have been battling over this issue for many years. What must be realized before examining these two theories is the fact that both require faith. Requiring faith means neither can be proven right completely. These two theories bring to light the literal and non literal reading of Genesis 1 and 2. Creationism believes in the literal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The non literal interpretation of the Holy Scripture can be seen in two points of view: Old Earth Creationism and Theistic Evolution. Old Earth Creationism believes God created everything out of nothing, the same as Young Earth Creationism, but does not think it was done over a literal six days, so it can be considered as semi literal (Fowler, 2010). They believe each day meant a period time; and thus think the earth is over four billion years old. This view point combines evolutionary theory with a semi literal translation with the text in Genesis 1 and 2. This leads to a very long process of thinking and an even harder process to explain. Theistic Evolution differs and takes the approach that God caused the Big Bang and used evolution to create the universe and thus takes a non literal approach (Marinov, 2014). This means that they believe everything was created through evolution, but with God s hand guiding it. This theory coincides with modern scientific thought. The authority of scripture plays a role in the non literal and semi literal interpretations of scriptures. In order to have a non literal, or semi literal viewpoint on interpretation, one has to understand that that it means they cannot think the Bible is completely accurate with every aspect and thus cannot be taken literally. • 29. Lydia Seated In A Cafe Analysis Lydia Seated in a Lounge, by Mary Cassatt, and Au Café, by Edouard Manet, are two pieces of work that were created in the modern era. Both paintings possess the characteristics of modern paintings; the quick, light brush strokes that portrays a sense of ephemerality and movement. However, these two works differ heavily when placed in the social contexts of the time period, which revolved heavily around the idea of sexuality. From 1860 1900, the social fabric of Paris transformed enormously, and as a consequence, the social perception of women and men changed drastically. Looking at the two paintings, gender plays a paramount role in the understanding of the subject as well as the painting as a whole. This idea is further emphasized by the idea of the Flaneur, the Gaze, and the social spheres that were formed at the time. During this period, the idea of separate spheres came into being as a consequence of increased social interactions. There were public spheres, such as the cafes, restaurants, and theaters, which were occupied predominately by men. Women on the other hand occupied the private sphere, which consisted of their homes and other much more secluded areas. For women to go to these cafes and expose themselves to the public degraded them in the eyes of society. Costs tend to pile up on businesses and companies in the form of wastes and defects. Some situations that are an example of this are utilization suffering because item changeovers take too long, product is rushed in because an important part cannot be found, and output not meeting its full potential because of crew to crew variations (Bresko 2014). Computers, phones, televisions, houses, and many other creations would not exist. However certain inventions prove to stand greater than others, including phones, airplanes and light bulbs. Firstly, telephones, invented by Alexander Graham Bell, have proven to benefit people in drastic situations. They help one interact from lengthy distances. For example, if a family has an emergency, the fastest method to contact a member is to call them. After the invention of telephones, cell phones developed. The successful creators of the amazing aircraft were the Wright brothers: Wilbur and Orville. Their miraculous invention placed the world in awe, for no one considered that the idea of flying was possible. The development, used for war and traveling, exists as one of the safest ways of transportation. Thus, airplanes remain as one of the best and most useful inventions in the world. Conclusively, light bulbs, invented by Thomas Alva Edison, prove to be extremely helpful in life. They illuminate the world and lighten the gloomy night. If light did not exist, everyone would probably find themselves using fire and lanterns to see, which could result in hazardous outcomes. For example, if candles were left unattended throughout the night, then they could tip over and possibly create a massive fire. Lights, found everywhere, including streets, houses, and cars, assist people at all times. Therefore, light bulbs stand as a safe and valuable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Bolshevik Party Essay The Bolshevik party was based on Marxist ideals, ideals which sought to rid society of class conflict and create an egalitarian society. After the fall of the provisional government, the Bolsheviks were now able to implement an economic policy of their own, introducing a form of communism called War Communism . It was a form of strict communism that, amongst many things, took money out of circulation and banned private enterprise. It should, therefore, seem surprising that the Bolshevik government got rid of this policy, a policy which espoused many Marxist principles of destroying interclass conflict through the abolition of private enterprise, and replacing it with the NEP, a policy which at first glance, may resemble something much more capitalist orientated than would one expect of a party based on communist ideals. The NEP was a policy that reintroduced a free market and capitalism, both subject to state control . This may have therefore have been a step back from achieving a Marxist utopia in the Russian State but it can be argued that the continuance of war communism would have ultimately led to the utter economic collapse of the Russian state and the NEP prevented this from occurring. A major criticism of the NEP was that it simply was not a policy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 34. Culture In The Kite Runner In my last journal I conclude that I strongly disliked the culture and main character but after my reading this week I might have changed my mind. I know like the culture of the novel and I still hate the main character. I change my judgement on hate trod the Agfanishain culture after I learned a little bit about. I disliked the culture because of the discrimination and racism to citizens of Hazara Mongolian descent. As I continued reading, I learn more about Kite running and how important and cool their culture is. Honestly when I first started to read, I thought the tournament was more like a neighborhood gathering. • 35. What Is The Divide Between The Paleolithic Period And The... The divide between the Paleolithic period and the Neolithic period could not be greater. However, both time periods rely on each others advancements for the ultimate development of art, and architecture. The Paleolithic time period is divided into three sections, lower, middle and upper. This time period is essentially the beginning of human control over the environment. Humans were now beginning to leave their mark, so to speak. During this time period, humans relied on hunting, fishing, and farming for their survival, they began drawing in caves at this time. Cave art was the ancient version of murals. The art depicted what the ancient culture valued most, life. During this time period, creation was important and essential. Artists depicted everyday life and animals because that is what they depended on for their livelihood. Also list, identify, and describe the important structures of the sheep brain and compare with those of the human brain. Materials: Preserved sheep brain Dissection tray Scalpel Scissors Pins Tweezers Gloves Safety glasses Procedure: Obtain a preserved sheep brain from the bucket and place this on a dissection tray. Examine the outer surface of the brain and locate the dura matter (the outer toughest layer of the brain). Remove the dura matter. Place the brain on dissecting tray and position its ventral surface upward. Identify olfactory nerve, optic nerves, optic chiasm, pons, medulla oblongata, and spinal cord. Position the brain with its ventral surface down and identify cerebral hemispheres, cerebral lobes (frontal, parietal, temporal, and occipital), cerebellum, longitudinal fissure, and transverse fissure. • 37. Analysis Of It s Like Everyone It s like everyone tells a story about themselves inside their own head. Always. All the time. That story makes you what you are. We build ourselves out of that story (Patrick RuthFuss). When a baby is brought into this world, the only piece of identity it attains from its mother and father is its name. The rest of the way through life, that person which has been given life, has to find their own path and their own identity. Although parents teach very dignified lessons of values, it is up to him/her to establish if they want to adopt the ideals of his/her parents. Lisa was walking through a strip mall in a part of town called Terrace when she saw her friend Erica being chased by a car full of white men verbally harassing her. Lisa then stepped in to stand up to the men while Erica called her bigger brother. During that whole ordeal there were many bystanders who did not lend a hand. Later that day, Lisa went to go meet her aunt Trudy when she told her that If you were some little white girl, that would be true, but you re a mouthy Indian, and everyone thinks we re born sluts. Those guys would have said you were asking for it and hot off scot free (Robinson, 255). Although Lisa was just trying to protect her friend, no one decided to stand up to the white men and help a teenage girl although there were many people watching. This displays the inequality that the regular man feels towards the Indians. Furthermore, when Lisa s aunt Trudy was just a small teenager herself, Lisa s grandmother was forced to send her away to a residential school because she was an Indian. Trudy did not realize this and put her blame and hate on her mother cause a rift between her and her mother. • 38. Newfoundland Fishing Industry The closing of the cod fisheries marked one of the most devastating moments in history for the province of Newfoundland. However, Sue Bailey wrote an article discussing the return, the comeback of the Newfoundland fishing industry once again. Bailey refers to a federal report stating cod stocks are still in a parlous state, although a union of fishermen wish to expand the cod fishery. While the cod fishery was thought to be gone, the recovery rate of the species are remarkable; ...total biomass was up seven percent from 2015 to 2016, there is still much recovery to be done. Another undiscussed matter, is climate change; over the years it has played a significant change in driving away fish populations because of dropping temperatures and changing of salinity. One idea discussed by the article is the monitoring of cod numbers, as well as monitoring the seal population. The article states to limit seal population to keep the fish alive; the textbook states They contend that the greater number of seals ate larger quantities of caplin, a small fish that is a major food source of groundfish, (pg 285). • 39. Essay Urban Inequality Introduction: In Urban Studies two schools of academic thought answer the urban question : the ecological and urban political economy schools. I will argue that the political economy perspective better allows us to fully grasp the urban question where society and space mutually encompass each other and allow us to better explain and address urban inequality. First, I will develop a working definition of the urban question . Second, I will write on the ecological school s view of the urban question and how their vista explains but inadequately addresses urban inequalities. Third, I will review the political economy (social spatial dialect) landscape of the urban question and how their panorama explains and gives better analyses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Essentially, the political economist asks the urban question in two parts, the first questions asks how do wider social processes affect urban societies and their relationship to geographical space? The second question asks: how do wider social, political or economic processes affect spaces which impact upon wider social, political or economic dynamics? Understanding the two academic schools, I will, in the next two sections, further argue that the interrelationship of society and space from a political economy standard better allows us to address and understand urban inequalities. Society and Space: Ecological thought The ecological school fails to fully address the modern social dynamic of urban inequality. The ecological perception sees urban social, political and economic unevenness as urban stratification. Stratification is the end result from the geography or conditions of the city. Again, the underlying premise that geographical landscape (space) influences social grouping and behavior (society) becomes central to the urban question . The ecological notion leaves out any beliefs to wider social, political and economic processes that address geographic location and impinge upon the social concept of urban inequality (Burgess, 1925). The urban ecologist see urban racial or ethnic, and economic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The treaty that ended the... The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which came into effect on 2 February 1848, ended the Mexican American war and formally resolved territorial disputes resulting from that conflict. The treaty required the U.S. government to pay the Mexican government $15 million dollars, this in return for an expanse of territory that later became the states of Arizona, New Mexico, and parts of Utah, Nevada, and Colorado. I intend to argue that the treaty benefitted the people who inhabited, and later came to inhabit, that territory. I also propose that, as a result of the transfer of territory from a dictatorial regime to one that was based on democratic principles, both Mexico and the United States ultimately benefitted in several ways. The Treaty of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was, at the time, one of the most populous cities in Northern Mexico, having a population of of nearly fifteen thousand inhabitants. (The Mexican War 33). About the same time, Taylor and his army won the battle of Buena Vista. The terrain in northern Mexico is difficult, and water scarce. Perhaps this is why, after a number of arduous campaigns in the north, Taylor seemed to lose interest in fighting. Instead of pressing south towards the Mexican capital, he was content to remain in the north. Because of his lack of fighting spirit, Pres. James Polk lost faith in him as a leader. Instead, he turned to General Winfield Scott, who lost no time in making for the Mexican capital. The American army and generals proved significantly superior to the Mexican forces and in less than a year and a half the American army had captured Mexico City and the Mexican Republic had to sue for an unfavorable peace. (The Mexican American War). The treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo contained twenty articles. The most important of these were the payment of $15 million already mentioned, and the transfer of territory. The U.S. pledged to withdraw its troops from the Mexican capital, cease its blockading of Mexican ports, and to withdraw all of its forces from Mexico within three months of the signing of the treaty.
