her own husband s eyes, Rochester. Moreover, Rochester is ignored by his own family. His isolation
stems from the letter he sends to his father, stating that I will never be a disgrace to you or my dear
brother the son you love (70). His bitterness implies that his father favors his brother much more than
he favors Rochester. He is also separated from the black population, as he tells Antoinette that he
would never hug and kiss [a black person] (91). His haughty behavior eventually confines him from

age, the idea that no matter sex, age, religious disparities, race, nationality, socioeconomic standings,
or physical differences people were inherently all equals. This idea manifested in my mind and
changed the way I perceived all components of my life. In the case of Forrest Gump, the movie further
affirmed that all people should be treated as equals and looked at as simply people. Forrest s simple
mindset and perception reaffirmed this belief to me. The movie confirmed that the idea that people
were equal, on all levels, was not something difficult to understand especially when someone as
simple as Forrest Gump could understand this. Through my religion, in which treating all people with
kindness is integral, allowed me to view the movie through this lens. The foundation religion laid for
me has affected all components of my life because it has shifted my perception, my understanding,
and my opinions of the world

The boy griped the cold, metal handle with his sweaty shaking hand. He was full of nerve, took a big

Taking a Look at Soil Depletion
With the constant overuse of the soil negative effects started to appear regarding the soil and the soil s
fertility. As farmers introduce the chemical fertilizers to their crops they seldom know that they are
decreasing the soil s fertility level and in return increasing the acidic levels, this is due to the fact that
chemical fertilizers cause the soil to turn acidic (Missouri Botanical Garden). Plants grow best in
neutral soils so when the soil turns acidic due to the implementation of chemical fertilizers farmers
add more chemical fertilizers to help the next yield of crops grow thinking that the soil needs more
nutrients and N P K when in reality all it needs is a little time off to try to recuperate itself naturally.
Sadly, sometimes in the end the soil is no longer able to grow anything. The great amounts of
fertilizers that are being used result in the soil turning into a desert; literally, this process is
desertification. Desertification is just that, the process in which a healthy fertile soil turns into a dry
infertile desert and once the soil reaches this state it is very difficult to restore it back to the healthy
soil it used to be but it is not impossible. A great role model that helped proved this statement was the
great Aldo Leopold. Leopold was a scientist that after experiencing a sudden change of thoughts; after
looking inside a wolf s eye, wrote about the importance of being one
