Mythology in The Virgin Suicides
When one first thinks of mythology the first things that first come to mind are probably stories of
Greek gods and goddesses, and the humans that prayed to them. We often forget that mythology does
not end or begin with the Greeks. Authors have been using mythology for many would say centuries
as a source for symbols, characters, situations, or images that conjures up universal feedback. In the
case of The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides one of the archetypes that we see play out
throughout the novel is the one of The Virgin Mary. The Virgin Mary in The Virgin Suicides
represents a sense of foreshadowing at the beginning and towards the end of the book, provide an
allegory between the Libson girls and The Virgin Mary, and help ... Show more content on

Cecilia is not known to be very religious; but yet, she is found holding a laminated picture of the
Virgin Mary. As the story develops we almost forget this small but important detail amidst all the other
symbols Eugenides throws at us but we come back to the laminated picture of the Virgin Mary during
the last months of the remaining Libson girls lives. Just as we had begun to despair of ever being near
them again, more laminated pictures of the Virgin Mary began showing up (Eugenides 182). We begin
to see the significance of the laminated picture of the Virgin Mary had not only to the boys but also to
the Libson girls. These cards were their only way of communicating with the outside world. They
knew that if they left these cards the person who found them would know that it was coming from
them because of the fact that Cecilia was found holding one on the day of her attempted suicide. The
card Cecelia held and the last card the girls left were almost a sign of bad things to come. The last card
the girls left said Tomorrow. Midnight. Wait for our signal (Eugenides 195). The remaining Libson
girls wanted to in a way imitate the night their younger sister s failed suicide attempt.
The Virgin Mary also provides an allegory between her, the archetype, and the Libson girls. In the
Catholic church the Virgin Mary is the mother of of God and

The Consequences Of Corporal Punishment In Public Schools
Disciplining a child can become a tedious task for parents and tutors. As a result, they believe that
punishment is the most optimal way to eliminate a misbehavior. Paddling, spanking, and hitting are a
small group of the harsh disciplinary practices used by adults. Such practices of physical punishment
are currently allowed in public schools in the United States. Many people argue that a reasonable
physical punishment on the children leads them to understand the consequences of misbehaving.
However, the word reasonable is an ambiguous term utilized to diminish the meaning of such type of
violence. Corporal punishment can be a momentarily disciplinary practice, which in the long term,
severely, impacts the children. Researchers have said that children exposed to more corporal
punishment tend to suffer certain psychological disturbances. Generally, they are more likely to
develop mental health problems, low self esteem, and antisocial behavior. Such issues make them
become vulnerable and depressive leading them in the long term to drugs or alcohol abuse. Once the
children reach their adulthood, they become extremely aggressive and the parent child relationship
gets substantially damaged. In the United states a large number of people believe that such
disciplinary practice is no longer present in our public schools system. According to a letter recently
written by John B. King Jr., U.S. Secretary of Education, twenty two states still allow corporal
punishment in school:

Conklin And Henry Fleming Analysis
im Conklin and Henry Fleming have a lot in common, but they also are very different. They are
different in the way they act before the first battle. Crane describes Henry when he says, He
contemplated the lurking menaces of the future, and failed in an effort to see himself standing stoutly
in the midst of them (Crane 16). Henry is confused about what he will do when the battle starts, while
Jim is assured of what he will do. He states that, If a whole lot of boys started to run, why, I s pose I d
start and run... But if everybody was a standing and a fighting, why, I d stand and fight... I ll bet on it.
... He had feared that all of the untried men possessed a great and correct confidence (Crane 20 21).

Pros And Cons Of Cosmetic Surgery
The Good and Bad of Cosmetic Surgery Cosmetic surgery has been in high demand since the late
1900 s among various people. The correct medical term for cosmetic surgery is aesthetic surgery. This
type of surgery is used to change a person s appearance for many different reasons. There are different
types of cosmetic surgeries that can be done depending on the situation. Cosmetic surgery is more of a
downfall than it is beneficial to people (ASAPS, paragraph 2). People the age of thirty five to fifty
years old, are more likely to have some form of cosmetic surgery. Of all cosmetic surgeries, 39.3
percent of patients were in this age group during 2016. There has been an 89 percent increase within a
five year duration. Research has shown that this huge increase could be to improve a person s dating
life or social acceptance. There are three main cosmetic surgeries that are in the highest demand. In
the year of 2016, liposuction, breast augmentation, and abdominoplasty were the most common
cosmetic procedures in the world. The majority of these procedures were done in the United States on
Caucasian individuals. No matter the ethnicity of an individual, cosmetic surgery gives one the option
to almost completely change their features. Like all surgery, cosmetic surgery has your common risk:
infection, scarring, and blood loss. Death, a word no one likes to hear is a possible risk but is not
likely. The recovery of a patient can vary depending on what the patient has done. A

Victim Blaming Sociology
The phenomenon of victim blaming is a multifaceted topic with far reaching consequences. The
tendency to blame innocent victims stems from a need to cope with threats to our concept of reality.
People generally prefer to consider the world to be just a concept that indicates that people get what
they deserve. This just world view is very integral to the worldview of most people, so when it is
threatened, individuals employ defensive strategies to reestablish a sense of justice in the world
(Hafer, 2000). Blaming the victim in some capacity for misfortunes that befall them is a convenient
way to reestablish a just world view. Such misattribution of blame institutes the possibility that
victims of crimes or disease will be mistreated and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is more likely that a person will engage in victim blaming when the victim in question is an in group
member in some capacity. When a person whom is perceived as belonging to one s in group is
victimized, one s perception of the just world is more likely to be threatened (Correia Vala, 2003).
This is because observers wish to believe themselves as invincible to the same types of misfortune as
those who are victimized, and the more similarities between the observer and the victim, the more the
observer may question this perception of invincibility (Goldenberg Forgas, 2012).
Mood Induction When an individual engages in victim blaming practices, they are attempting to
alleviate psychological discomfort. It is reasonable to suggest, then, that pre existing states of mood
may influence the likelihood of blaming the victim. Mood as resource theory indicates that a positive
mood acts as a resource, which individuals may draw upon when presented with situations that
threaten their world view (Raghunathan Trope, 2002). Because of this, a person in a positive mood is
less likely to engage in victim blaming, while a person in a negative mood is more likely to engage in
victim blaming.

Aristotle Persuasion
In definition rhetorical theory is a theory where the speaker is giving a persuasion to the audience in
the form of logical, emotional, and ethical aspect. Greek philosopher Aristotle is the first person that
came to up the idea of the art of persuasion, an art that is use for public speaking, where he explains
that there are three types of persuasion such as, deliberative, forensic, and epideictic. Aristotle also
includes that the important element of public speaking or persuasive communication is the audience.
Audience is the most important aspect of persuasion, considering if there is no audience, then there is
no act of persuasion. In the past Aristotle or ancient term and idea of persuasion is considered the most

The Ethics Of The Ethical Systems
The Ethical Systems In ethics, four systems serve as different beliefs concerning our morals:
Relativism Ethics, Consequentialism Ethics, Deontological Ethics, and Virtue Ethics. These four
theories attempt to define what right and wrong should be and how one should handle any situation.
There are many strengths and weaknesses of each view. The goal is to determine which theory is the
best by exploring real world situations and questioning the claims that just don t work out.
RELATIVISM ETHICS
There are two different types of relativistic views: Cultural Relativism and Subjectivism. Cultural
Relativism is the belief that culture defines what is right and wrong. Subjectivism is the belief that the
individual person decides what is right and wrong. Many pros and cons exist with an overall
relativistic view. First, the positive: Someone with this view will obviously be very tolerant and is not
likely to discriminate against a different culture or person. Also, morality depends on a social
experience, instead of being derived from a higher being, morality is derived from the surrounding
people. It is good to know the diversity and experience the many aspects of the world. Although this
might sound like a perfect world for everyone to be tolerant and understanding of one another, there
are many flaws to this theory. One flaw is that with this way of thinking, justice cannot exist. If
someone committed murder, they cannot be punished because they believe murder is right, which

Overpopulation And Congestion In New York City
Traffic Doesn t Cause Congestion, People do
New York City has always had issues with overpopulation and congestion. As of July 2016, the U.S.
Census Bureau has estimated New York City s population at 8,537,673. That s an increase of 362,500
residents (or 4.4 percent) over the April 2010 decennial census count of 8,175,133. The city has not
witnessed such a robust pace of growth in over a half century. And, as New York s population
continues to upsurge, so does its problems with overcrowding and congestion.
Neighborhoods, like South Jamaica, Queens, where I m from, hasn t been omitted from the populace
boom that was once exclusive to the more appealing boroughs of Manhattan, Brooklyn and The
Bronx. When people migrated to the Big Apple from all over the world, they settled in the boroughs
closer to public transportation and burgeoning job markets. Jamaica, Queens wasn t considered the
ideal borough for families moving from the South to the north because throughout the 19th to early
20th centuries, Jamaica was mainly populated by whites as new Irish immigrants settled around the
places known today as Downtown and Baisley Pond Park. By the 1950s, however, in what was later
called white flight , African American families with middle incomes began to move in as white
families fled to Long Island. After the 1970s, as housing prices began to tumble, many Hispanic, such
as Salvadorans, Colombians, Dominicans, and West Indian immigrants, moved in. These ethnic
groups tended to stay

Title IX Obligations
Introduction In recent years, the U.S. Department of Education s Office for Civil Rights has received
an increasing number of questions from parents and schools regarding civil rights protections for
transgender students. Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits discrimination in
educational programs/activities based on gender, including discrimination based on a student s gender
identity or transgender status. This letter, while it does not add requirements to applicable law,
provides significant guidance and encouragement regarding a school s Title IX obligations for
transgender students and how a school is evaluate for compliance with these obligations. Relevant
Terminology: Gender identity: refers to an individual s sense of gender, may be different from one s
assigned gender at birth
Sex assigned at birth: gender that is designated on an infant s birth certificate

Under Title IX, a school must begin treating a student consistent with their gender identity when they
are notified by the student or student s parent or guardian that the student will identify with a gender
that differs from previous records. No medical diagnosis or treatment is required. Requiring students
to produce documentation of their new gender identity in order to participate in an educational
program/activity may be a violation under Title IX, as these documents are often difficult to obtain
due to legal restrictions. As commonly recognized in civil rights cases, the desire to accommodate the
discomfort of others cannot justify denying equal access to a particular class of

Essay On Detective Fiction
Why we should read detective fiction.
We spend large parts of our lives in books about fiction. Not only in books but also through television
shows and films. Many people wonder if it is positive or negative to read Fiction? Society is changing
and is today surrounded by digital media that govern society. When society changes, it may in some
cases be enjoyable to escape from reality and this by reading detective fiction.
Britannica.com (Search word, Fiction history ,2017) explains that detective and crime related stories
are one of the most popular genres of fiction. The authors are many who have found inspiration from
the well known authors Edgar Allan Poe and Conan Doyle. What characterizes detective fiction is that
a crime is introduced and investigated and the culprit is revealed. Once a murder has been committed,
the books separating broadly from one another, creating a unique atmosphere, simultaneously as it

Jonathan Gottschall article Why fiction is good for you (Bostonglobe 2012/04/28) clarifies that the
books can give a person a new perception of reality. Fiction becomes like their fantasy world, as they
can disappear when something in life is hard. In addition, the books can make people believe, that
there are others living in the same situation as them. It also allows you to go on adventures in your
mind. You are becoming one with the character, and in fiction like the murder of the orientexpress , it
feels as if you are involved in the murder, that you are one of all the train travelers questioned by the
detective Poirot. When the end comes with the book, it will be an end to one time friendship. The
characters have become friends of you and now they are gone. Which in turn inspires you to read

Transcendentalism Is Not A Beneficial Way Of Life
Transcendentalism is when one goes beyond the regular human experiences of the material world and
society to find true peace. Thoreau s Walden is about leaving the cities, abandoning one s possessions
and living out in nature to find one s true self. Emerson s Self Reliance is about resisting society and
living true to oneself and never following society s standards. A modern Transcendentalist named Josh
from the novel The Gospel According to Larry by Janet Tashjian follows in the footsteps of Emerson
and Thoreau and tries to live a Transcendentalist way of life. When a person does follow the
transcendentalist way of life, they will find that it will always lead back to the material world and
society and that they cannot escape it. The Transcendentalist way of life is not a beneficial way of life.
Transcendentalist Thoreau believed that one should follow his or her own emotions. Thoreau thoughts
are shown vividly when Thoreau in Walden says, I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so
dear; nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was quite necessary. (Thoreau 26 27). Thoreau
wanted to live freely and if he did not live this way he was not living life. However when Josh uses his
own emotions like Thoreau, things do not end well for him. When Josh tries to follow his own
emotions, he wants to tell Beth that he is actually Lary however, Josh tells what the consequences of
his emotions caused him when he says I did something worse. I kissed

Powell was commissioned an officer in the U.S. Army and in 1962 sent to South Vietnam as a military
adviser. During a second tour of duty in the late 1960s, he was in a helicopter crash and, despite his
own injuries, was able to rescue fellow soldiers from the burning wreckage. For his heroism, he was
awarded the Soldier s Medal, one of several commendations earned during his military career. Powell
excelled in military and academic pursuits. Although an average student in his early years, he made
excellent grades in his 30s while earning his MBA at George Washington University, despite lacking
many undergraduate prerequisites when he enrolled. Powell never put chalk marks on the wall that
indicated he has to do this. He has tried to do his best at what came his way. He was not without
ambition, but driven by ambition. He had a full and active public life. He would like to be
remembered as a good soldier who served well, and is well thought of by his fellows. Those fellows
include his greatest mentors, the captains, and majors who taught him as a lieutenant and kept him
going straight ahead. The less you associate with some people, the more your life will improve. Any
time you tolerate mediocrity in others, it increases your mediocrity. An important attribute in
successful people is their impatience with negative thinking and negative acting people. As you grow,
your associates will change. Some of your friends will not want you to go on.

Theme Of Human Nature In Brave New World
After observing the novel Brave New World along with an article titled, Catholic Church Corrupt To
Its Core, Says Survivor one can conjure the idea that human nature will always persevere. Since the
birth of mankind this concept has been instilled in the minds of people. It is the nature of humanity to
feel uncontrollable emotions and feelings that promote certain actions. This ranges from undergoing a
state of overwhelming rage to possessing a heightened amount of fear to becoming engulfed in
jealousy. These are undeniable traits of humans as seen in Brave New World because of the key
figures in the novel that despite Hypnopædia and childhood conditioning, enact elements of innate
emotions. When viewing Bernard Marx, one sees that he is different from the other Alphas and quite
frankly, the rest of the population. He continuously experiences jealousy of Henry Foster s intimacy
with Lenina and sadness that his physical shape is deformed. From birth, children become conditioned
to be happy and not to experience these emotions since it could potentially cause social instability. No
matter the amount of soma Bernard consumes, he always finds a way to come back to these strong
desires of love and depression. The reader can also observe Helmholtz Watson s ambition to write
rhymes that have more significant and influential meaning. Watson was predestined to cease from

Canada s Health Care System
Health care environment
Central structural differences
The United States and Canada had similar health care system before Canada changed its system in the
1960s but now have a different mix of funding mechanisms. The basic difference between the two is
in health insurance. Most assume Canada s system as socialized medicine which is not correct. Canada
has a universal single payer health care system which covers about 70% of health care costs. 75% of
Canadian health care services are delivered privately, but are funded publicly. The Canada Health Act
provides financial disincentives for using private insurance for publicly insured services and requires

In spite of this, the studies show that the health outcome is superior in Canada as compared to the
United States. WHO s ratings on overall health service ranks Canada 30th and the USA 37th among

care. Statistics show higher life expectancy and lower infant mortality rate in Canada than in the
United States. Different racial makeup, obesity, alcohol and smoking rates can be the cause that US
has shorter life expectancy and higher infant mortality rate. Canada has half the obesity rate as
compared to the US. On an average, obesity can decrease life expectancy by almost 7 years. Other
things to consider is the fact that the death of an American newborn in Canada is not accounted for in
Canada but successful delivery of a Canadian newborn in the US is accounted for in Canada.
Americans have exceptionally high death rates deaths in conditions like coronary heart disease,

The Case Of The American Legal System
The question what is law?, is important to understand law and to the extent to which particular
institutions have been accorded power to make or pronounce law. It is important for lawyers,
policymakers, politicians and those working in the field of social science academia to understand that
the meaning and the scope of law exceeds the basic premises of assumption that law is what the
legislature passes as a statute, or law is what a court applies, etc. because that is the way our political
order is constructed, etc. Since laws takes various forms, a legal system is needed to interpret and

Madison exemplifies that understanding . Since the US legal system is based on federalism. The Tenth
Amendment of the U.S constitution shift the power and legal authority away from the states and
towards the federal government. The federal government gains more power over the state but there is
a certain jurisdiction of boundaries that the federal can exercise their power over the state. The law
deals with the fundamental principles by which the federal government exercises its authority. In the
American constitutional system, the authority of government is defined, limited, and distributed by the
fundamental law of the United States Constitution. The U.S constitution is a body of written basic law
and is superior to and takes precedence over all ordinary acts of Congress and state legislatures and
over all decision and actions of the executive branches of the national and state government. That s
why it divides the national government into three branches legislative, executive and judicial. This
will separate the power of the branches of the government and at the same time check and balances
the actions of other branches. Constitution law is most often associated with fundamental rights like
equal protection, the right to bear arms, freedom of religion

Childhood Diabetes Research Papers
Dealing with Childhood Diabetes
Childhood diabetes is a disease where the pancreas is faulty and cannot produce insulin to regulate
blood sugar levels. The cause of the disease is unknown ,it cannot be prevented, and there is no cure.
Additionally, it is the most common pediatric illness. Childhood diabetes affects families suddenly,
causing anxiety about treatment, denial, loss of identity, bad habits, and worries about how others
think of them. These negative effects can be lessened by education, support and care.
Patients or their parents (if they are very young) are expected to test their blood sugar regularly and
give themselves (or their children) insulin shots accordingly. High quality education is crucial,
because 95% of the disease ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Walt Disney Company Analysis and Marketing
WALT DISNEY COMPANY PROJECT
With a dream and an ambition, a young man, Walt Disney arrived in Santa Fe California with a
cartoon character named Alice. Within months after the Alice cartoon became a hit, Walt and his
brother created the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, which after a couple of years was renamed to
Walt Disney Studio. In 1928, five years after his arrival to California, Walt was able to introduce a
new cartoon character, Mickey Mouse. With this introduction, people were seeking amusement and to

both the children and adult is by having the people cme to the stadium to watch their Anaheim Angels,

Multitasking: the Uncertain Impact of Technology on

Abstract: While the productivity paradox has now been officially pronounced dead, the argument and
the evidence for this assertion are both at a macroeconomic level. What has been less closely
examined is the microeconomic impact of recent developments in ICT on the productivity of office
and knowledge workers. There is an assumption, readily seen in many advertisements for mobile
technology, that multi tasking, WiFi connected laptops, Blackberrys, smart phones and so on are good

1.2 The impact of ICT?
Multitasking in the workplace long predates ICT, but ICT, if not a prerequisite for multitasking, is a
significant enabler and amplifier of multitasking. From an ICT evaluation perspective, it is therefore
pertinent to ask: Whether such modes of working (learning is a separate question) are better in some
(or any) sense than monotasking? and When and if is multitasking a beneficial development in the
workplace?
There is, as will be seen below, a body of research addressing the first of these questions, but little
research which looks at the second. Furthermore, only a modest portion of this research is to be found
in the IT evaluation literature (or in the wider IS literature). There is a embryonic body of research
into the impact of multitasking on some specific types of

Reflection On Internships
Reflection
In the beginning of my sophomore year of college, I became passionate about public policy. Knowing
that just my education was not going to suffice with the aggressive job market directly after school, I
found myself being challenged to look for a position in my field for that summer. Recommendations
from family friends led me to apply for Senator Rob Portman s prestigious internship in Washington,
D.C. The internship was a reach as I was competing with some of the top students in my state. My
hard work dedication paid off: a couple of months later the office of Senator Rob Portman extended an
invitation for me to join their team that summer. I ventured to the District of Columbia with two main
goals: first, to discover my intended career path; and second, to try to understand the language of
government, since it will be relevant to my career.
Needless to say, I was so ecstatic to get a call from the office that I immediately began preparing my
move in May. I was not familiar with our nation s capital as I had never been before. I decided to stay
in the George Washington University Greek Housing dorms that were a quick 15 minute commute to
work via metro. The early morning hustle and bustle was a shock to me, but it was something that I
fell in love with immediately.
I was the first intern out of the nine interns to show up to the office. Once the last person arrived to the
glamorous Russell Senate office, one of the staffers took us to a large conference

Clarke s Cosmological Argument On The Existence Of God
Clarke s Cosmological argument has been around for multiple centuries the purpose of this argument
being to try to prove the existence of God. Although this argument sounds valid meaning that IF
premises 1 and 2 are true, then the conclusion must be true while many people have accepted this
argument, it has also caused a lot of questioning and skepticism, mainly because of what the
Cosmological Argument uses to support its argument the Principle of Sufficient reason. Before
determining whether the PSR effectively supports Clarke s Cosmological argument, one must know
the Cosmological Argument s premises and what they mean. Premise 1 of Clarke s Cosmological
Argument asserts that every being is either dependent or independent meaning ... Show more content

For example, if you see a dog at a veterinary, you know that the dog exists due to its parents
(component 1 of the Principle of Sufficient Reason). You also know that there is an explanation for the
dog being at the veterinary: the dog might be sick or is going to go through a medical procedure
(component 2 of the Principle of Sufficient Reason).
Although the Principle of Sufficient Reason seems to be straight forward it is heavily questioned and
fails to effectively support Clarke s Cosmological arguments for many reasons, one of them being its
failure to think about or recognize Brute Facts. Brute Facts are things that can t be explained; in this
case, the inability to explain the existence of a being. An example of a Brute Fact is God, since his
existence can t be explained but his existence is considered to be true by many people. Although it has
not been explicitly confirmed that Brute Facts actually exist, the Principle of Sufficient Reason and its
premises fails to acknowledge the possibility of Brute facts existing, therefore making the PSR to be
less certain and accepted since it requires that everything has to have an explanation. This failure to
acknowledge Brute Facts by the PSR also makes it a weak argument, therefore also making it not
effectively support Clarke s Cosmological Argument.

Analysis Summary
Main Problems
Two issues are present in the case. The first is a decision on what research should be conducted by
Manson and Associates to allow Larry Brownlow to estimate the feasibility of a Coors beer
distributorship for a two county area in Delaware. This issue is evident, even stressed, throughout the
case. The second issue is a decision on whether or not the distributorship is feasible or, in other words,
a go/no go decision by Brownlow regarding his application. This issue is largely implicit in the case.

Apollo Moon Landing Evidence
Apollo Moon Landing Evidence
On July 16th, 1969 the Apollo 11 spacecraft launched from Earth and landed on the moon four days
later. It was the first of six manned spacecraft to land on the moon, all launched by NASA and the
United States. Conspiracy theorists have tried to prove that the moon landings were fake from the
moment the Apollo 11 spacecraft landed on the moon. One of the conspiracy theorists biggest pieces
of evidence against the moon landing are two photos from NASA, which have been proven to actually

Thomas Goodrich is an author that focuses most of his writings about the American Civil War. This

presenting this sinister side of the Civil War. Mr. Goodrich s book portrays the horrific death,
destruction, merciless killings, rapes, and the millions of dollars worth of property seized or destroyed

After the jayhawkers, bloody raids in 1861 he became a Southern sympathizer. Quantrill and his
bushwhacker guerillas struck back for what the jayhawkers had done to Missouri. He avoided capture
many times and on August 21, 1863, led a surprise attack at Lawrence. Over 200 men and boys were
murdered in this raid and the town was stripped of what Quantrill and his gang wanted and then
burned to the ground. More than $1.5 million worth of property were destroyed. One of Quantrill s
most famous guerillas was Jesse James, who later became a legendary bank robber. This book was one
of the most eye opening books I have read on the Civil War. Mr. Goodrich exposes one of the darkest
times in our American History. As the eyes of the nation was immersed on the big battles to the east,
lawlessness ruled along the Kansas and Missouri border. I found this book to be very interesting
because it told the story from people loyal to the union, the south, and fellow citizens just trying to
make a living. Kansas was a union state and was anti slavery. Missouri was also a union state but the
majority of its population was pro slavery. This resulted in a state of war within its own borders
between the U.S. Army and Missouri citizens. This was a civil war within the Civil War. The State of
Missouri never officially joined the Civil War due to its own internal struggles. Most of the male

The Inevitability Of Reality, By Edvard Munch
The Inevitability of Reality
Oscar Wilde once said, Society exists only as a mental concept; in the real world there are only
individuals. This quote explains that society is corrupt. People will only surround you when you are in
the spotlight, but will depart when you hit rock bottom. The painting The Dance of Life, by Edvard
Munch, portrays a life from beginning to completion. It is visible that the same woman is cloned, from
a happier stage of life, to a dark, gloomy end. The Swimmer, by John Cheever, relates to this idea of
the different experiences throughout the course of one s life. The story is about Neddy, who decides to
go home by swimming through the Lucinda River. As a reader, we can see that the story takes place

Neddy arrived at Enid Bunker s house to go through her pool. When he arrived, Ms. Bunker screams,
Oh, look who s here! What a marvelous surprise! When Lucinda said that you couldn t come I thought
I d die. (3) This shows us the peak of Neddy s reputation. Everyone wanted him to be at their party to
make it seem as if it was worth coming to, since it was good enough for Neddy to join. Cheever
continues the initial exchange saying, She made her way to him through the crowd, and when they had
finished kissing she led him to the bar, a progress that was slowed by the fact that he stopped to kiss
eight or ten other women and shake the hands of as many men. (3) This shows that Neddy is viewed
on high standards and why Mrs. Bunker was so happy that he had shown up to her party. Neddy
finishes his drink and then leaves to move on to the next pool.
When Neddy arrives at the Levy s house, no one is home and he cannot seem to remember whether or

Literature Influence On American Literature
A Tale Intended to be After the Fact... is how Stephen Crane introduced his harrowing story, The Open
Boat, but this statement also shows that history influences American Literature. People wanted a
language and writing style that was distinctly American, different from Great Britain. Noah Webster
published Webster s American Dictionary of the English Language in 1828. Previously, words
pronunciations and spellings differed from area to area. In other words, people made up words and
wrote them however they liked. Webster s dictionary made American English more consistent, as well
as unique from Great Britain. Abraham lincoln once said, America will never be destroyed from the
outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves. Throughout
history, there have been connections on literary works from different times. The connection is that
History, current events, and social events have influenced and affected American Literature. Authors,
and their work are influenced by the society surrounding them. Authors have used experiences they
have lived in or taken out of history to help create and personalize their writings. Writing styles are
also affected by the current trends and opinions of the time they show. By reading American
Literature, we have seen the diabolical treatment of slaves, the destruction and trauma caused by wars,
and the ruin of eras such as The Great Depression. Literature is so very important to our generation

Lincoln Racist Dbq
Racism is the belief of superiority of a certain race which often leads to discrimination towards other
people. Lincoln was a racist because of his ideology. According to Document B, Lincoln was in favor
of the race to which I belong, having the superior position . Since Lincoln believed that he, the white
race, was better and superior to the Negroes, this proves that he is racist because of his ideology. In
addition, Lincoln was a racist because of his words. In Document C and D, Lincoln called the Negroes
heathism , barbarian , creatures . By using such demeaning and dehumanizing words, Lincoln puts
down the Negroes, which establishes himself as the better race. However, some may argue that
Lincoln was not a racist. In Document A, Lincoln believed that the Negro was born his equal and that
no human law can deprive him of these rights . By thinking that he is equal to Negroes, it
demonstrates that he does not think lowly of them. Although Lincoln stated that the Negro is his equal,
it does not hide the fact that he believes that the white race is more superior and the words he uses to

The Importance Of Student Athletes In High School Sports
When I participated in high school interviews last year, the interviewer always wanted to know which

programs in Massachusetts. Every time I was asked, I d just shrug it off and tell them the truth: I m not

athletes, I was in a demographic of kids who worked their hardest to succeed in both academics and
athletics. During my time at Hillside, I went through all the hardships that the serious athletes went
through by trying to balance the two subjects. Some kids blamed their grades on teachers that did not
explain concepts well. Others turned to the lack of study material for answers. The only thing that we
all agreed on, as a community, was that pushing the start and end times back an hour was the worst
decision that an athletically focused school like ours could make. Since many private schools already
have very tight schedules, the athletes in these schools get the short end of the stick more often than
not in the event of a new and improved school schedule. We prepared for our day and woke up at 6:40

Psychology is the study of the mind and behavior that seeks to understand the mindset of individuals

the way they do can be manipulated to evoke fear in an audience, especially if the motivations can t be

Self Efficacy, Self Esteem, And Social Wellness Essay
Suicide, the reason what teens use to get away from life, caused by depression and other mental health
problems. Unhealthy minds and healthy minds will tell you how unclear thoughts affects someone.
This brings down the self efficacy, self esteem, and self confidence. There are three steps to prevent
suicide, which might decrease the risk of suicide from happening. This might give you a clear idea to
help prevent a friend, family member, or anyone from committing suicide.
Self Efficacy
Many of us had been though a couple of rough times and some pretty amazing ones as well. Difficult
times for most people can take away their energy, taken away emotions, and break a person s spirit.
The good times on the other hand can lift someone s spirit up, boost their self esteem, and show signs
of our capability. This is called self efficacy, it connects with four of the 6 dimensions of health
mental, emotional, spiritual, and social wellness. These effects tell people to feel good about
themselves, help them control their social anxiety, and maintain a positive lookout on life.
Healthy vs Unhealthy People with an unhealthy mental mind can be extremely dangerous, or just plain
terrible, they would respond with an irrational response. Whereas, healthy people respond with a more
positive, a better outlook on life. A healthy mind has a good attitude, value, beliefs, and can reason
with other people. Unhealthy people with unhealthy minds cannot do things like that. They either have

Humans can be set apart from other living beings by, their ability to reason out whether a decision is
either wrong or right using their conscience, their ability to create relationships that can hold a similar
value to that of biological relationships, and despite having a capacity for sin, humans are still good.
In the film A Few Good Men, three lawyers are left with a case, where two Marines on Guantanamo
Bay have been convicted of murdering a fellow comrade. This film clearly showed as to what it means
to be human. Through the film, the audience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Likewise, Lieutenant Daniel Kaffee, who was the defense Lawyer for both Dawson and Downey, was
a man who was in great need of emotional guidance from other people. During the trial period, Kaffee
was left dumbfounded on whether the case should be fought on or if it was time to step back. His
defense partners were Lieutenant Commander JoAnne Galloway and Lieutenant Sam Weinberg, two
individuals that helped in removing Kaffee from his old shell and putting him into a new one. While
Kaffee was ready to abandon Dawson and Downey s case, Galloway made him realize that. Being in
connection with others is a requirement for any living being, but if these relationships prevent a person
from doing good, then they should not be given such importance. Similarly, to bad relationships,
unwanted rules and conditions are also very bad for a person s conscience.
Rules and conditions that go against a person s moral values and conscience are also tremendously
bad since it can become very difficult for a person to realize as to which rules are deemed acceptable,
as we are taught from an early age to follow all rules and order. Therefore, as seen in the film, the
rules put in place by the commanding officers of Lance Corporal Dawson and Private Downey
directly conflicted with their abilities to comprehend moral values and damaged the

The Importance Of Traveling To Hawaii
If I had a ticket to go anywhere in the world I would go to Hawaii and take my family to have a
memorable time there and experience new things. My parents have dreamt of going to Hawaii one day
to just see how it really is to see people dancing, and see crystal clear aqua blue beaches.
Hawaii has been one of my childhood places i ve always wanted to experience growing up. Many
people around the globe have always said many positive comments about traveling to Hawaii. As
growing up i ve learned more and more about fun things to. For example, Hawaii s active volcano is
currently active to this day. Many citizens from parts of state have to evacuate from their area to move
to a different location due to the volcano erupting. Hawaii has many rainforests,

Queen Victoria Influence On Society
Have you ever heard of Queen Victoria? She was the second most popular queen after Queen
Elizabeth. Queen Victoria was born royal, Victoria s father died when she was only 8 months old and
her mom became the main influence in Victoria s younger years. Her fashion is what named the
Victorian era. (Pettinger, 2014) Queen Victoria was born royalty, her mother was Victoria Saxe
Saalfeld Coburg and her father was Edward, the duke of Kent, King George III s fourth son. Victoria
was christened privately in 1819 at Kensington Palace. She was baptised Alexandrina, after one of her
godparents and Victoria, after her mother. Victoria s mother became a main influence in her life after

She was crowned early to do the people ahead of her dying young, she was crowned after her fathers 3
siblings died. When she was crowned, Victoria refused any further influence from her mom. Respect
for the crown was not the best at her coronation, but the straightforward and modest young Queen
won the hearts of her subjects. Victoria wanted to know of political matters, but she hadn t have direct
input in policy decisions. Under Queen Victoria s reign, Great Britain got expansion in industry,
building bridges railways, underground sewers, power distribution networks, and underground sewers.
There were advances in science and technology. During her reign, Britain doubled in size.

Victoria s life. They had 9 children, Edward VII, Princess Alice, Princess Victoria, Princess Louise,
Princess Beatrice, Princess Helena, Prince Leopold, Prince Arthur, and Prince Alfred. She was devoted

Essay On Us Economy
The United States Economy The US economy is still the largest and the most important in the world
which represent about 20% of the total global output and is ranked as 6th highest per capita GDP. The
US economy features a highly developed and technologically advanced services sector, which
accounts for about 80% of its outputs. Large American Corporations also play a role on the global
stage with a huge amount of their companies are located all around the world. The US is also the 2nd
largest manufacturing in the world and also has an important manufacturing base and is the main hub
in producing high value products. They have access to almost any natural resource and is the world s
largest agricultural exporting country with sophisticated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Still, the US economy faces many challenges in its way in the coming years. The Chinese Economy
China economy experienced an incredible growth in the last few decades that made the country the
2nd largest economy in the world. When China started the program of economic reforms in 1978, it
ranked 9th in nominal GDP but 35 years later it s now ranked 2nd in the nominal GDP and been the
world s manufacturing hub. In recent years, China s modernization propelled the tertiary sector and in
2013, it became the largest category of GDP with a share of 46.1%, while the secondary sector still
accounted for a sizeable, 45% of the country s total output. Meanwhile, the primary sector s weight in
GDP has shrunk dramatically since the country opened up to the world. Since 1993, China has
experienced uninterrupted trade supplies and in 2013, China has overtaken the US as the world s
largest trading nation. As an economy highly integrated into the global trade system, the country
benefited from a steady improvement in its term of trade since 2000. The country has multiple
bilateral and multilateral trade agreements that opened new markets for its product. A Free Trade
Agreement (FTA) between China and ASEAN nations which came into effect in the beginning of
2010, created the world s third largest free trade area in terms of nominal GDP. China established FTA
with nations like Korea, Peru, Pakistan, Singapore and etc.

Growth Strategies for Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston Essay
Growth Strategies for Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston
If we at Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston (OCB) intend to be a profitable business with plans of
continued growth, then we must make some fundamental changes in the way we operate our business.
First we need to get back to the very basics and write a business plan! The Information contained in a
business plan will help us to determine who we are, where we want to go, and how we intend to get
there. This basic information will bring us focus, and act as a guide for our actions in the future. By
defining our intended strategies for management, operations, sales, marketing, finance, competition,
etc. we will then have what is necessary to layout a clear path for our future. If you ... Show more

These trends show that the market is growing, therefore the opportunity for OCB to increase sales is
good, unfortunately on the other side of the equation costs are increasing. If we look at the simple
formula for calculating profits, (Total Sales Total Costs = Profits) then we must either reduce our costs
or increase our sales if we are to reverse our dropping profits trend.
We must consider new ideas that will return us to financial health once again. Listed below are some
examples of organization changes / structures that we should consider.
1. Maintain the same business model but invest in incremental procedural changes to improve
efficiency. Ease into change by forming LEAN teams to address critical issues first, like controlling
costs and increasing efficiency.
2. Merge OCB with a large Physician Practice Management (PPM) organization and adopt their
proven business models, strategies, and methods, to optimize all aspects of the business. Although
tempting, the potential tradeoffs could include binding agreements, a complete reorganization, of OCB
to match the new PPM model. A change of such magnitude would be disruptive and negatively impact
revenue, reputation, and may force out valuable personnel. Additionally surrender of control, and loss
of Independence is not appealing to me. The potential for improvement is great, but the potential risks
may outweigh the reward.
3. Maintain the similar business

Video Editing Essay
TASK 1 PROPOSAL (Typed document minimum 1000 words)
Special investigation into editing
I will be talking about editing work through the industry of media, we will start some of the software
that is used in the industry today, these include, Premier pro, Avid, and final cut, avid has always been
a strong editing software in the industry, but as some technology rises and falls premier pro is just
edging the gap into the industry, as regular updates of this software make it the better choice for
editing films together as different filters, transitions and bugs with in the software are updated, for the
software to be crisp. Final cut on the other hand is mostly use by educational establishments for
training people to use software like this in the future as in the last few years final cut has dropped
down in consumer use as it is not been updated and is less consumer friendly for use then premier and
avid, This is reason for it being used in education.
Methodology of Video Editing
There are several different ways to edit video and each method has its pros and cons. Although most
editors go for non linear editing for most projects, it makes sense to have an understanding of how
each method works, as some people prefer different options or how some look, i.e Vintage
Film Splicing
film editing was the first way to edit moving pictures and conceptually it forms the basis of all video
editing, as film had to be spliced and put together back in the day.

Intraspecific Competition Lab Report
This experiment was performed to give a better idea of interspecific competition and intraspecific
competition between radish seeds and wheat seeds at high and low densities. By planting two species
only pots and two combined species pots our results showed that the radish seeds performed better at
both interspecific and intraspecific competitions and concluded that the lower the pot density the more
resources and growth. 32 radish seeds were evenly planted in pot A1 followed by 32 wheat seeds
planted in pot A2 and 16 of each radish and wheat seeds combined (32 total) planted in pot AB1. We
repeated this procedure again but this time planting 96 radish seeds evenly in pot A2, 96 wheat seeds
in pot B2 and 48 of each radish and wheat seeds combined (96 ... Show more content on

For both interspecific and intraspecific competition the radish did its best however at the lowest
density of 32. (Figure 1) These results did support our hypothesis that the lower the density the better
the growth and the radish would thrive better at intraspecific competition however was refuted with us
predicting that wheat would do better in interspecific competition. These results can possibly be
explained by the idea of density dependent growth meaning that as you increase population, resources
such as light, soil, and water decrease and vice versa (Walsh and Walsh 2015). Also a possible
explanation for our results is that the radish shoots were longer, taller, more in number versus the
wheat shoots that were short, broad and few in number. The theory of allocating more roots if the there
is less sun and bigger shots if there is less nutrient rich soil is shown in the experiment of intraspecific
and interspecific competition of beans, in the end that beans that had more competition and the soil
was poor had bigger leaves at the expense of its neighbors (Mania et al.

What Is The Mood Of Shalott And If I Die Young
The Victorian Era saw a huge growth in literacy and literature. This is due largely to everyone
receiving mandated education, though it was a miniscule amount, and also because the printing press
made printed works more accessible (Reid Notes #5). One author who was published during this time
and became very popular was Lord Alfred Tennyson. For the first twenty or so years of Tennyson s
career he was not very successful and was very poor. After some time, his wealth and fame began to
increase (Reid Notes #6). A popular poem of Tennyson s that is still well known today is The Lady of
Shalott. The poem is about a young woman who is locked away and will be cursed if she even looks
out a window. She decides that death by the curse is better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is displayed in the poem when Tennyson states But in her web she still delights (Tennyson line
64). The Lady of Shalott has been weaving a web during her time of imprisonment and she has found
happiness in doing that and does not care to look or go outside. In the song, The Band Perry states The
sharp knife of a short life, Well I ve had just enough time (The Band Perry). The singer is stating that
though her life has been short, it has been enough time to experience life. Also, both characters wish to
end up in some type of kingdom. As the Lady of Shalott is in the boat She floated down to Camelot
(Tennyson line 140). Her intention once getting into the boat was to end up in the kingdom that is
Camelot, perhaps to see Sir Lancelot once again. In the song, the lyrics state And I ll be wearing white
when I come into your kingdom (The Band Perry). From other context in the poem readers can infer
that the kingdom that is mentioned is referencing heaven, and the character could possibly be wearing
white to symbolize her innocence due to being

  • 2. Mythology in The Virgin Suicides When one first thinks of mythology the first things that first come to mind are probably stories of Greek gods and goddesses, and the humans that prayed to them. We often forget that mythology does not end or begin with the Greeks. Authors have been using mythology for many would say centuries as a source for symbols, characters, situations, or images that conjures up universal feedback. In the case of The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides one of the archetypes that we see play out throughout the novel is the one of The Virgin Mary. The Virgin Mary in The Virgin Suicides represents a sense of foreshadowing at the beginning and towards the end of the book, provide an allegory between the Libson girls and The Virgin Mary, and help ... As the story develops we almost forget this small but important detail amidst all the other symbols Eugenides throws at us but we come back to the laminated picture of the Virgin Mary during the last months of the remaining Libson girls lives. Just as we had begun to despair of ever being near them again, more laminated pictures of the Virgin Mary began showing up (Eugenides 182). We begin to see the significance of the laminated picture of the Virgin Mary had not only to the boys but also to the Libson girls. These cards were their only way of communicating with the outside world. They knew that if they left these cards the person who found them would know that it was coming from them because of the fact that Cecilia was found holding one on the day of her attempted suicide. The card Cecelia held and the last card the girls left were almost a sign of bad things to come. The last card the girls left said Tomorrow. Midnight. Wait for our signal (Eugenides 195). The remaining Libson girls wanted to in a way imitate the night their younger sister s failed suicide attempt. The Virgin Mary also provides an allegory between her, the archetype, and the Libson girls. In the Catholic church the Virgin Mary is the mother of of God and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Consequences Of Corporal Punishment In Public Schools Disciplining a child can become a tedious task for parents and tutors. As a result, they believe that punishment is the most optimal way to eliminate a misbehavior. Paddling, spanking, and hitting are a small group of the harsh disciplinary practices used by adults. Such practices of physical punishment are currently allowed in public schools in the United States. Many people argue that a reasonable physical punishment on the children leads them to understand the consequences of misbehaving. However, the word reasonable is an ambiguous term utilized to diminish the meaning of such type of violence. Corporal punishment can be a momentarily disciplinary practice, which in the long term, severely, impacts the children. Researchers have said that children exposed to more corporal punishment tend to suffer certain psychological disturbances. Generally, they are more likely to develop mental health problems, low self esteem, and antisocial behavior. Such issues make them become vulnerable and depressive leading them in the long term to drugs or alcohol abuse. Once the children reach their adulthood, they become extremely aggressive and the parent child relationship gets substantially damaged. In the United states a large number of people believe that such disciplinary practice is no longer present in our public schools system. According to a letter recently written by John B. King Jr., U.S. Secretary of Education, twenty two states still allow corporal punishment in school: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The correct medical term for cosmetic surgery is aesthetic surgery. This type of surgery is used to change a person s appearance for many different reasons. There are different types of cosmetic surgeries that can be done depending on the situation. Cosmetic surgery is more of a downfall than it is beneficial to people (ASAPS, paragraph 2). People the age of thirty five to fifty years old, are more likely to have some form of cosmetic surgery. Of all cosmetic surgeries, 39.3 percent of patients were in this age group during 2016. • 6. Victim Blaming Sociology The phenomenon of victim blaming is a multifaceted topic with far reaching consequences. The tendency to blame innocent victims stems from a need to cope with threats to our concept of reality. People generally prefer to consider the world to be just a concept that indicates that people get what they deserve. This just world view is very integral to the worldview of most people, so when it is threatened, individuals employ defensive strategies to reestablish a sense of justice in the world (Hafer, 2000). Blaming the victim in some capacity for misfortunes that befall them is a convenient way to reestablish a just world view. Such misattribution of blame institutes the possibility that victims of crimes or disease will be mistreated and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is more likely that a person will engage in victim blaming when the victim in question is an in group member in some capacity. When a person whom is perceived as belonging to one s in group is victimized, one s perception of the just world is more likely to be threatened (Correia Vala, 2003). This is because observers wish to believe themselves as invincible to the same types of misfortune as those who are victimized, and the more similarities between the observer and the victim, the more the observer may question this perception of invincibility (Goldenberg Forgas, 2012). Mood Induction When an individual engages in victim blaming practices, they are attempting to alleviate psychological discomfort. It is reasonable to suggest, then, that pre existing states of mood may influence the likelihood of blaming the victim. Mood as resource theory indicates that a positive mood acts as a resource, which individuals may draw upon when presented with situations that threaten their world view (Raghunathan Trope, 2002). Because of this, a person in a positive mood is less likely to engage in victim blaming, while a person in a negative mood is more likely to engage in victim blaming. Specific Aims/Research ... • 8. The Ethics Of The Ethical Systems The Ethical Systems In ethics, four systems serve as different beliefs concerning our morals: Relativism Ethics, Consequentialism Ethics, Deontological Ethics, and Virtue Ethics. These four theories attempt to define what right and wrong should be and how one should handle any situation. There are many strengths and weaknesses of each view. The goal is to determine which theory is the best by exploring real world situations and questioning the claims that just don t work out. RELATIVISM ETHICS There are two different types of relativistic views: Cultural Relativism and Subjectivism. Cultural Relativism is the belief that culture defines what is right and wrong. Subjectivism is the belief that the individual person decides what is right and wrong. Many pros and cons exist with an overall relativistic view. First, the positive: Someone with this view will obviously be very tolerant and is not likely to discriminate against a different culture or person. Also, morality depends on a social experience, instead of being derived from a higher being, morality is derived from the surrounding people. It is good to know the diversity and experience the many aspects of the world. Although this might sound like a perfect world for everyone to be tolerant and understanding of one another, there are many flaws to this theory. One flaw is that with this way of thinking, justice cannot exist. If someone committed murder, they cannot be punished because they believe murder is right, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When people migrated to the Big Apple from all over the world, they settled in the boroughs closer to public transportation and burgeoning job markets. Jamaica, Queens wasn t considered the ideal borough for families moving from the South to the north because throughout the 19th to early 20th centuries, Jamaica was mainly populated by whites as new Irish immigrants settled around the places known today as Downtown and Baisley Pond Park. By the 1950s, however, in what was later called white flight , African American families with middle incomes began to move in as white families fled to Long Island. • 12. Transcendentalism Is Not A Beneficial Way Of Life Transcendentalism is when one goes beyond the regular human experiences of the material world and society to find true peace. Thoreau s Walden is about leaving the cities, abandoning one s possessions and living out in nature to find one s true self. Emerson s Self Reliance is about resisting society and living true to oneself and never following society s standards. A modern Transcendentalist named Josh from the novel The Gospel According to Larry by Janet Tashjian follows in the footsteps of Emerson and Thoreau and tries to live a Transcendentalist way of life. When a person does follow the transcendentalist way of life, they will find that it will always lead back to the material world and society and that they cannot escape it. The Transcendentalist way of life is not a beneficial way of life. Transcendentalist Thoreau believed that one should follow his or her own emotions. Thoreau thoughts are shown vividly when Thoreau in Walden says, I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was quite necessary. (Thoreau 26 27). Thoreau wanted to live freely and if he did not live this way he was not living life. However when Josh uses his own emotions like Thoreau, things do not end well for him. • 14. Theme Of Human Nature In Brave New World After observing the novel Brave New World along with an article titled, Catholic Church Corrupt To Its Core, Says Survivor one can conjure the idea that human nature will always persevere. Since the birth of mankind this concept has been instilled in the minds of people. It is the nature of humanity to feel uncontrollable emotions and feelings that promote certain actions. This ranges from undergoing a state of overwhelming rage to possessing a heightened amount of fear to becoming engulfed in jealousy. These are undeniable traits of humans as seen in Brave New World because of the key figures in the novel that despite Hypnopædia and childhood conditioning, enact elements of innate emotions. When viewing Bernard Marx, one sees that he is different from the other Alphas and quite frankly, the rest of the population. He continuously experiences jealousy of Henry Foster s intimacy with Lenina and sadness that his physical shape is deformed. From birth, children become conditioned to be happy and not to experience these emotions since it could potentially cause social instability. No matter the amount of soma Bernard consumes, he always finds a way to come back to these strong desires of love and depression. Recommendations from family friends led me to apply for Senator Rob Portman s prestigious internship in Washington, D.C. The internship was a reach as I was competing with some of the top students in my state. My hard work dedication paid off: a couple of months later the office of Senator Rob Portman extended an invitation for me to join their team that summer. Clarke s Cosmological Argument On The Existence Of God Clarke s Cosmological argument has been around for multiple centuries the purpose of this argument being to try to prove the existence of God. Although this argument sounds valid meaning that IF premises 1 and 2 are true, then the conclusion must be true while many people have accepted this argument, it has also caused a lot of questioning and skepticism, mainly because of what the Cosmological Argument uses to support its argument the Principle of Sufficient reason. You also know that there is an explanation for the dog being at the veterinary: the dog might be sick or is going to go through a medical procedure (component 2 of the Principle of Sufficient Reason). Although the Principle of Sufficient Reason seems to be straight forward it is heavily questioned and fails to effectively support Clarke s Cosmological arguments for many reasons, one of them being its failure to think about or recognize Brute Facts. Brute Facts are things that can t be explained; in this case, the inability to explain the existence of a being. An example of a Brute Fact is God, since his existence can t be explained but his existence is considered to be true by many people. Although it has not been explicitly confirmed that Brute Facts actually exist, the Principle of Sufficient Reason and its premises fails to acknowledge the possibility of Brute facts existing, therefore making the PSR to be less certain and accepted since it requires that everything has to have an explanation. This failure to acknowledge Brute Facts by the PSR also makes it a weak argument, therefore also making it not effectively support Clarke s Cosmological Argument. In addition to ... Literature Influence On American Literature A Tale Intended to be After the Fact... is how Stephen Crane introduced his harrowing story, The Open Boat, but this statement also shows that history influences American Literature. People wanted a language and writing style that was distinctly American, different from Great Britain. Noah Webster published Webster s American Dictionary of the English Language in 1828. Previously, words pronunciations and spellings differed from area to area. In other words, people made up words and wrote them however they liked. Webster s dictionary made American English more consistent, as well as unique from Great Britain. Abraham lincoln once said, America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves. Throughout history, there have been connections on literary works from different times. The connection is that History, current events, and social events have influenced and affected American Literature. Authors, and their work are influenced by the society surrounding them. Authors have used experiences they have lived in or taken out of history to help create and personalize their writings. Writing styles are also affected by the current trends and opinions of the time they show. Woollin is more generous. * Exceptional cases : oblique intention D has a purpose other than causing the prohibited harm but where that result is an inevitable or likely consequence in rare cases it is permissible / central problem is that there are 2 possible interpretations of Woollin * Definitional interpretation = extended definition of intention if a consequence is foreseen as virtually certain the jury may be told that this amounts to intention * Evidential interpretation = still no definition of intention where a consequence is foreseen as virtually certain this is evidence entitling a court or jury to find intention jury has discretion * Evidential adopted = Matthews and Alleyn = Ds who had tossed a half dead V off a bridge who they knew couldn t swim appealed. • 42. Analysis Of The Film A Few Good Men Humanity can be defined as quality of being human; the peculiar nature of man, by which he is distinguished from other beings. Being human does not mean that an individual possesses humanity. Humans can be set apart from other living beings by, their ability to reason out whether a decision is either wrong or right using their conscience, their ability to create relationships that can hold a similar value to that of biological relationships, and despite having a capacity for sin, humans are still good. In the film A Few Good Men, three lawyers are left with a case, where two Marines on Guantanamo Bay have been convicted of murdering a fellow comrade. This film clearly showed as to what it means to be human. Through the film, the audience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Likewise, Lieutenant Daniel Kaffee, who was the defense Lawyer for both Dawson and Downey, was a man who was in great need of emotional guidance from other people. During the trial period, Kaffee was left dumbfounded on whether the case should be fought on or if it was time to step back. His defense partners were Lieutenant Commander JoAnne Galloway and Lieutenant Sam Weinberg, two individuals that helped in removing Kaffee from his old shell and putting him into a new one. While Kaffee was ready to abandon Dawson and Downey s case, Galloway made him realize that. Being in connection with others is a requirement for any living being, but if these relationships prevent a person from doing good, then they should not be given such importance. Similarly, to bad relationships, unwanted rules and conditions are also very bad for a person s conscience. Rules and conditions that go against a person s moral values and conscience are also tremendously bad since it can become very difficult for a person to realize as to which rules are deemed acceptable, as we are taught from an early age to follow all rules and order. Therefore, as seen in the film, the rules put in place by the commanding officers of Lance Corporal Dawson and Private Downey directly conflicted with their abilities to comprehend moral values and damaged the ... Growth Strategies for Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston Essay Growth Strategies for Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston If we at Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston (OCB) intend to be a profitable business with plans of continued growth, then we must make some fundamental changes in the way we operate our business. First we need to get back to the very basics and write a business plan! The Information contained in a business plan will help us to determine who we are, where we want to go, and how we intend to get there. This basic information will bring us focus, and act as a guide for our actions in the future. By defining our intended strategies for management, operations, sales, marketing, finance, competition, etc. we will then have what is necessary to layout a clear path for our future. If you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These trends show that the market is growing, therefore the opportunity for OCB to increase sales is good, unfortunately on the other side of the equation costs are increasing. If we look at the simple formula for calculating profits, (Total Sales Total Costs = Profits) then we must either reduce our costs or increase our sales if we are to reverse our dropping profits trend. We must consider new ideas that will return us to financial health once again. Listed below are some examples of organization changes / structures that we should consider. 1. Maintain the same business model but invest in incremental procedural changes to improve efficiency. Ease into change by forming LEAN teams to address critical issues first, like controlling costs and increasing efficiency. 2. Merge OCB with a large Physician Practice Management (PPM) organization and adopt their proven business models, strategies, and methods, to optimize all aspects of the business. Although tempting, the potential tradeoffs could include binding agreements, a complete reorganization, of OCB to match the new PPM model. A change of such magnitude would be disruptive and negatively impact revenue, reputation, and may force out valuable personnel. Additionally surrender of control, and loss of Independence is not appealing to me. The potential for improvement is great, but the potential risks may outweigh the reward. 3. • 47. Video Editing Essay TASK 1 PROPOSAL (Typed document minimum 1000 words) Special investigation into editing I will be talking about editing work through the industry of media, we will start some of the software that is used in the industry today, these include, Premier pro, Avid, and final cut, avid has always been a strong editing software in the industry, but as some technology rises and falls premier pro is just edging the gap into the industry, as regular updates of this software make it the better choice for editing films together as different filters, transitions and bugs with in the software are updated, for the software to be crisp. Final cut on the other hand is mostly use by educational establishments for training people to use software like this in the future as in the last few years final cut has dropped down in consumer use as it is not been updated and is less consumer friendly for use then premier and avid, This is reason for it being used in education. Methodology of Video Editing There are several different ways to edit video and each method has its pros and cons. Although most editors go for non linear editing for most projects, it makes sense to have an understanding of how each method works, as some people prefer different options or how some look, i.e Vintage Film Splicing film editing was the first way to edit moving pictures and conceptually it forms the basis of all video editing, as film had to be spliced and put together back in the day. Intraspecific Competition Lab Report This experiment was performed to give a better idea of interspecific competition and intraspecific competition between radish seeds and wheat seeds at high and low densities. By planting two species only pots and two combined species pots our results showed that the radish seeds performed better at both interspecific and intraspecific competitions and concluded that the lower the pot density the more resources and growth. 32 radish seeds were evenly planted in pot A1 followed by 32 wheat seeds planted in pot A2 and 16 of each radish and wheat seeds combined (32 total) planted in pot AB1. We repeated this procedure again but this time planting 96 radish seeds evenly in pot A2, 96 wheat seeds in pot B2 and 48 of each radish and wheat seeds combined (96 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For both interspecific and intraspecific competition the radish did its best however at the lowest density of 32. (Figure 1) These results did support our hypothesis that the lower the density the better the growth and the radish would thrive better at intraspecific competition however was refuted with us predicting that wheat would do better in interspecific competition. These results can possibly be explained by the idea of density dependent growth meaning that as you increase population, resources such as light, soil, and water decrease and vice versa (Walsh and Walsh 2015). Also a possible explanation for our results is that the radish shoots were longer, taller, more in number versus the wheat shoots that were short, broad and few in number. The theory of allocating more roots if the there is less sun and bigger shots if there is less nutrient rich soil is shown in the experiment of intraspecific and interspecific competition of beans, in the end that beans that had more competition and the soil was poor had bigger leaves at the expense of its neighbors (Mania et al. ... This is due largely to everyone receiving mandated education, though it was a miniscule amount, and also because the printing press made printed works more accessible (Reid Notes #5). One author who was published during this time and became very popular was Lord Alfred Tennyson. For the first twenty or so years of Tennyson s career he was not very successful and was very poor. After some time, his wealth and fame began to increase (Reid Notes #6). A popular poem of Tennyson s that is still well known today is The Lady of Shalott. The Lady of Shalott has been weaving a web during her time of imprisonment and she has found happiness in doing that and does not care to look or go outside. In the song, The Band Perry states The sharp knife of a short life, Well I ve had just enough time (The Band Perry). The singer is stating that though her life has been short, it has been enough time to experience life. Also, both characters wish to end up in some type of kingdom. As the Lady of Shalott is in the boat She floated down to Camelot (Tennyson line 140). Her intention once getting into the boat was to end up in the kingdom that is Camelot, perhaps to see Sir Lancelot once again. In the song, the lyrics state And I ll be wearing white when I come into your kingdom (The Band Perry).
