What is Information Management
Information Management is the collection and management of information from one or more sources
and the distribution of that information to one or more audiences.

To help support this every organisation has an Information system. The UK academy for Information
Systems defines information systems as the means by which organisations and people, using
information technologies, gather, process, store, use and disseminate information
Cashmore and Lyall (1991), explain that the purpose of Information System is to: * Collect and store
data which may be converted into information at some later point in time * Provide operational
information to ensure that everyone can do their job as well as possible and to assist in the general
running of the organisation * Extend the value chain of the business so that the organisation s
information system can link with the information system of customers and suppliers. This should
result in benefits and improved information flows
Importance of Information Sharing and Legal obligations for sourcing, storing and sharing
information
In the previous section we determined the impact of management information on decision making
process within an organisation. One of the Critical Success Factors (CSF) that enables effective
decision making is Information sharing . This allows managers to take the right decision at the right
time.
According to C. Cashmore and R. Lyall (1991), information needs of managers across the organisation
can be linked to the decisions they make. They suggest these can be split into two broad categories: *

Summary Of The Urban Legend Of Fairfax County
During the summer of 2011, I went to visit my cousins that lived in Fairfax County. One night there
was a tornado warning, and the strong winds and rain had cut off all the power to the house. All we
had to that night was tell stories, and one tale brought up was about the county we were in. While the
urban legend intrigued me, you could easily identify the overarching message of the tale which was to
be cautious at night. According to the legend, in 1904 an insane asylum was being shut down per
request from residents of Fairfax County. During the transfer there was an accident allowing the
inmates to escape into a forest. While some were detained, others were killed because of their
hostility. Police officers were able to find all but two people, Marcus and Douglas that were still
missing. Local police officers followed a trail of dead rabbits in the forest that lead them to a bridge.
Hanging from the bridge was Marcus with a note attached to his foot that read: you ll never find the
bunny man . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s about a very troubled man that attacking innocent people. The urban legend first began to gain
traction in the 1970s. What it tells us about the time in which it originated is how mental health was
perceived. Upon hearing the story, I was frightened which is what it aimed to do. The story was
created to scare us, but why does it also evoke fear of those with mental illness as well? The legend
associates those institutionalized in an asylum as being murderers, when in reality they re mutually
exclusive. Being institutionalized doesn t mean you re killer. The transfer of inmates in the urban
legend only occurred per request of the residents of Fairfax. They didn t want an asylum in their
county, because of how they perceived the patients as being a threat to their safety. The story only
goes on to confirm that it the right decision to move people in the insane asylum, because they turned

The Problem Of Stereotyping
In today s world there are many problems, that individuals have to deal with, one of these many
problems is stereotyping. Stereotyping is an exaggerated statement or portrayal of a group of people,
which does cause people to view a race or person of the different sex differently, the remarks made
may be very offensive to the group of people. When it comes to stereotyping between races, one race
might even try to feel superior by putting another down, these portrayals and mis conceptions may
hurt others and cause a feeling of hatred towards one another. People are different and many have
flaws but not everyone should be blamed for one thing. If one person of another race commits a crime
then the whole race has committed that specific crime,

Does The Otl Mathematics Instruction For Conceptual...
Does the OTL Mathematics Instruction for Conceptual Understanding Matter?
Some studies have shown that preservice teachers and in service elementary teachers have knowledge
gaps in their mathematics content and pedagogical content knowledge (e.g., Ball, 1990; Ma, 1999).
The knowledge that teachers have for teaching influence their instruction and the lack of such can
limit how they teach mathematics for understanding (Borko Putnam, 1996). For this reason, teacher
preparation programs and professional development forums should emphasize and provide the
opportunities for learning to teach mathematics for conceptual understanding. Not only do such
opportunities build on preservice teachers mathematics content knowledge, but they also introduce
them to the new ways of teaching mathematics that they may not have experienced in their earlier
mathematics learning.
The findings from this study suggest that frequent experiences in learning mathematics for conceptual
understanding through particular strategies is related to an increase in PSTs knowledge about teaching
mathematics. In particular, more opportunities that allow PSTs to learn to show why a procedure
works was significantly related to the average PSTs increase in content knowledge between the
teacher preparation programs in the United States. Similarly, within the Polish generalist, United
States specialist, and Russian teacher preparation programs the relationships between the OTL to show
why procedures work and

Seat Belts Should Be Required
Imagine this, a church bus crashed into a truck the driver and 12 passengers on the bus died not
including the truck driver who died also. But that actually happened in Concan, Texas. Why? They
were all wearing seat belts, the seat belts just prevented them from evacuating Now that is really sad,
this is why I feel there should be no seat belts on a bus. Seat belts on a bus should not be required
because of the expense they bring and if there is an emergency it would take longer for the person to
evacuate out of the seat belt.
Most buses don t have seat belts because they are expensive. Therefore, Requiring seat belts on school
buses would be one more thing where dollars need to go ( Should States Require... ). Most schools

Assimilation And Culture In Rita Hook s Eating Vinegar
Assimilation vs Cultural Pacification
It is no secret that people in a foreign land often struggle to assimilate into other cultures. This feat is
particularly difficult in China where cultural and familial ties are deep seated. In Eating Vinegar, Rita
Hooks describes the great lengths one must be willing to go to become accepted in a new culture. She
uses foot binding among other Chinese practices and customs to explain how ridiculous it is to force
others to give up their culture and adopt the prevalent one rather than blend them. One of the most
obvious things which distinguished Sadie from her new peers was her language. Hooks consistently
points out the language barrier by always mentioning when people didn t understand her or spoke in
different languages. She also points out when different terms are used between the two cultures such
as kitchen cleaver. Another way language separates Sadie from society is her job. Her career was
limited to tutoring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though most modern Chinese women do not have bound feet, it was still used to evoke racism toward
Sadie. She was frequently teased by her students and peers for having such big feet which leads to her
interest in foot binding. Toward the end of the story she starts posing like the foot bound women in
Heng s book and eventually convinces herself that Heng was upset that she had big feet which actually
turns out to be true. Heng s feelings toward the size of sadie s feet become evident as the story
progresses. He begins with the attitude that he likes big feet saying that she was his all American girl.
Later his true feelings begin to show when he talks about the poem about the dancing girl with the
bound feet. He talks about her feet saying something can be done about this. When she expresses her
pain, Heng plays it off like he was joking and kisses her feet. This happens again later in the

Critical Analysis Of Requiem For A Dream
Requiem for a Dream is a 2000 psychological drama directed by Darren Aronofsky. The story follows
four characters as they struggle with, and eventually succumb to their different addictions. This leads
to the characters imprisonment in a world of delusions and reckless desperation that is eventually
overtaken by reality. The film makes effective use of imagery and sound to create the feeling of the
film reeling towards the end at an impossible pace. By the end of the movie, the characters are
completely changed: withered, broken, and alone. Requiem for a Dream was screened at the 2000
Cannes film festival, and was met with primarily positive reviews.
Darren Aronofsky created the feeling of the film speeding up by shortening the length of the scenes as
the film progresses. At the beginning of the movie scenes are 90 seconds to 2 minutes in length, and it
s by shortening the length of scenes and frames that he created a sense of unease within the audience.
It s also reflective of the emotional states of the characters. At the beginning of the film, the characters
aren t necessarily too far gone to be saved. They still have time for each other, for their future, and
their plans. But as the scenes shorten their chances of saving themselves become slimmer. They
characters find themselves more and more alone as they becomes slaves to their addiction, doing
whatever they can to get their next fix.
Requiem for a dream is split between two primary narratives which center on

The Electric Car
In 10 years, it is believed that the electric car will slowly start to push the gasoline/petrol vehicle to the
curb, and it will do it with style and swagger. In this ever growing age of technology and
advancement, more and more people are either looking very seriously into or have already transitioned
from ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles. The transition is seemingly a slow one for the
majority of the public and although it is understandable, it is also inevitable. Combustion engine
vehicles have been around for over a century and have dominated the car industry greatly. The
reliance on ICE engines can be visible in any direction someone turns, walking through the streets of
any city. The mindset that ICE rules, and is the only efficient and viable method of transportation is
slowly being replaced by the ever decreasing well of fossil fuels and oil on earth. Oil has been the
spine of the Earth and the gasoline car, it s pumping heart.
There are many reasons that more and more people are turning to electric. Some of the advantages are:
Higher efficiency by as much as 400 to 600 percent over an internal combustion engine
No polluting byproducts because this car gets its power from batteries, the wind or the sun
Three times as efficient as gas engines
Is extremely safe
Gets better mileage than any other car on the road
Quiet to drive
Convenient
Durable

Global definitions of terrorism are presented in the background reading. What would you propose as a
global definition of terrorism?
The challenges experienced at the international level with regard to arriving at a consensus about the
definition of terrorism are based on the fact that the term raises political and emotional tensions.
However, the international community through the United Nations has embraced various sectorial
conventions that describe and criminalize several types of terrorist activities. Moreover, the general
assembly of the UN has spoken against terrorist activities through diverse political definitions of

The Oppression Of Humanity And Nature In The Puritan Society
Moral law is an essential aspect of human existence, since the birth of Earth, humans have been
expected to act a certain way by roles made by God. Similar to what Plato discussed in Symposium,
all human live in an orderly universe, determined by God s image. With the Puritan religion, Man has
taken to God s ultimate plan to dictate his own way of life. Upholding this standard of perfectionism
in society influenced a trend of oppressive culture throughout the Puritan society. This concept of God
s image of perfection creates a complex social norms and peer pressure that can result in an individual
denying his or her self. While God s perceived perfection is being upheld in society, God s true power
reveals the truth in the world. Through nature, God reveals the truth of one s soul and can be an escape
from society s oppressive nature. Nathaniel Hawthorne argues in The Scarlet Letter (1850), that
Natural magnifies the truth of an individual s innocence. Hawthorne also argues that individuals deny
themselves in a society that oppresses the truth of natures and behaviors through social norms in
Puritan traditions. Hawthorne argues that within Puritan society an individual is oppressed from their
true image of themselves. Peer pressure is a concept in Puritan society can aid an individual to
denying his or her true image through God s eyes. This concept of trying to fit into a society that
constrains an individual from being their best self can affect their mental fortitude and

appraisal. It will help reduce ambiguity about performance appraisal and compensation increments in

Alex Sander should be allowed to continue as a product manager in view of the product launch. Glass
ought to mentor him to develop his people and leadership skills through feedback and training
workshops. Pros: The Company needs high performance workers like Alex for its product launch.
With leadership skills he can turn out to be a very valuable asset. Cons: Alex did not have faith in the
feedback system and may disagree to the changes. Without suitable changes he cannot lead his team
productively. Option 2 Change Alex s role to give him a position where he can work alone and his
skills and competencies are aligned to the job. Pros: Retaining a high performance employee. Cons:
Not suitable for long term succession planning. Recommendation and Course of Action (For 360

granted. Michael Oher was a homeless adolescent which has never had a bed before . Therefore, he is
grateful that the Touhy s brought him into their life and adopted him. One of the themes is the need to

African American Vernacular English (Aave)
African American Vernacular English
The United States of America is one of the world s most ethnically diverse and multicultural nations.
Even though there is not an official national language, most Americans speak Standard American
English (SAE). However, the most prevalent native English vernacular dialect in the United States is
African American Vernacular English (AAVE). According to Sharon Vaughn, AAVE is a dialect used
by some African Americans (110). In order to examine AAVE, one must explore the origins,
grammatical features, and prominent resolutions, which created a precedent for educating students that
speak dialects other than Standard American English.
For years, scholars and sociolinguist partook in debate over the ... Show more content on

Wolfram notes that double negatives are never interpreted as positives (305). An AAVE speaker may
say, Wasn t nobody in there but me and him to express that no one was in there but him and me.
The final and most recognizable trait of AAVE is the use of the habitual be. The habitual be conveys
events that happen routinely. Jack Sidnell offers several examples in African American Vernacular
English Ebonics. He illustrates, Standard English present perfect: He has been married. AAVE been:
He been married (Sidnell). In the Standard English sentence the implication is that, he is now no
longer married. However, in the AAVE sentence the implication is quite the opposite: he is still
married. The four above mentioned grammatical features are not the only rules that AAVE speakers
follow, but these rules are the most common and recognizable traits of AAVE.
As aforementioned, AAVE is the most prevalent native English vernacular in America. Consequently,
educators often encounter AAVE speakers and writers in their classrooms. Educators must inform
students that their home language is not Standard American English and create effective classroom
methods to educate non native SAE speakers. Faced with these constant occurrences, the Conference
on College Composition and Communication (CCCC) issued a statement on students rights to their
own language. The resolution states:
We affirm the students right to their own patterns and

How Does Iron Affect The Body
The mineral iron (Fe) is a crucial substance for the human body. Many parts of the body, including red
blood cells, require iron in order for the body to function normally. Only specific amounts of iron are
absorbed by the body to maintain homeostasis. However, iron is a very toxic mineral so if there is too
much iron stored in the body, it can lead to serious consequences. People that suffer from
haemochromatosis, a hereditary iron disorder, are unable to regulate the amount of iron absorbed from
their diet. Almost all iron in the intestine is absorbed into the blood stream and because the human
body has no major way to rid of excess iron, it is stored in organs and joints of the body where it can
cause serious harm. Typically, the body stores one gram or less of iron but people with
haemochromatosis can have up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Iron homeostasis is controlled though a negative feedback loop that involves hormones, including
Hepcidin, which are released to control the absorption of iron. With haemochromatosis, the production
of these hormones is affected. Over time, the build up of iron has a serious effect on cells in the body
which can lead to other fatal diseases or even premature death.
It is vital that the body contains a stable amount of iron. This level of iron is regulated through iron
homeostasis. On average, people take in 10 to 20 mg of iron a day but only absorb 10%. Usually
around 1mg of iron is also lost each day meaning the gain of iron equals the loss. This maintains iron
in the body at a stable level. Iron and many other minerals are absorbed through enterocytes,
absorbing cells that make up the small intestine. These cells are the regulators for how much iron is
moved into the blood stream meaning they only move it if the body sees a need for it. When iron is
taken in through food it travels through the digestive system down to the small intestine in the form of
Fe3+ (from plant matter) or Fe2+ (from meat). If it is the form 3+ then it is turned into the

Examples Of Greasers In The Outsiders
In the Outsiders, written by S.E Hinton one of the main characters is Ponyboy. He is stereotyped as a
greaser (a poor boy from the east side of town). Ponyboy accepts being a greaser and it affects him
positively. Some people might stereotype Ponyboy as a hero and not a greaser. Ponyboy is a greaser,
this is because he fits the characteristics of a greaser. For example, all the greasers have long greasy
hair, pony has that. Besides I look better with long greasy hair. (2). This quote means that Ponyboy is a
greaser, and that he looks better with long greasy hair. Another reason that ponyboy is that he has a

take it off his mind and try to feel better about the two deaths. The greasers also respect Ponyboy, for
example, during an argument towards the end of the book Darry said to Ponyboy Sure, little buddy
(84). Another example of the greasers respecting Ponyboy is how Johnny helps Ponyboy feel better a
lot of in a lot of conflicts. For instance, getting hit or getting almost drowned. Ponyboy positively
accepted being a greaser and he is committed to being a greaser. Some people might think that
Ponyboy has the stereotype of a hero and not a greaser, because he, Johnny and Dally saved the kids at
the burning church. I swear, you three are the bravest kids I ve seen in a long time. (42), after saving
the trapped kids Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally were called the bravest kids the school teacher has ever

when he was in a police chase. Ponyboy tried to make the police not shoot Dally, he was tried trying
his life for his friend but he could not complete. The final reason that Ponyboy is a hero is that he

Differences Between Monarchy and Democracy
Differences between Monarchy and Democracy
1. Democracy is a type of government that emanates from the constituted powers that are elected,
depending on the system (presidentialist, parliamentary, constitutional monarchy, semi presidentialist,
semi parliamentary, etc...) directly or indirectly by the people. Whereas in an absolute monarchy, an
absolutist regime exists and is in power because of family lineage.
2. In democracy three state powers(in most cases) exist as a checks and balances system, these being
the judicial, executive and legislative as it was enunciated in Montesquieu s Of the Spirit of law. And
they are independent, complementary and with no relation of subordination. Whereas in an absolute

Analysis Of Aphra Behn s Oroonoko
Aphra Behn, since the start of story Oroonoko takes on an apologetic tone in her narration of the story.
She starts of by apologizing (examples) as to the form of her writing and why she writes some parts of
the story while omitting others. It is not fully understood whether when Behn refers to being a female
pen she does so in a sarcastic way or with a deeper meaning, giving a double sense to her story. That
although she writes about a male character, she decides to write and exalt those parts of his life that
were influenced by a woman, making them as something as a very meaningful part of his story that
influenced his actions, exalting the role of a woman in this great man s life.
First of all speaking of the characterization of women in her story, we see that women are treated
merely as objects and do not have the power to make decisions for themselves, they are mostly always
under the strict rule of a man. Starting off with the character of Imoinda, we see that she only has a
considerable power because of her beauty. It is because of her beauty and her shy manner that
Oroonoko finds her so attractive, and therefore decides to marry her and have her as his only wife for
the rest of his life. After getting married, Imoinda is called by the King of Kalimenes to join his
multitude of wives. The only reason that Imoinda can proclaim to let her be slightly safe from the king
is to tell him that she is married; meaning that only by being under the protection of marriage to

Respiratory Diseases
Respiratory diseases can be classified in many different ways; by the organ involved, by the pattern of
symptoms or by the cause of the disease (Barron, 2009). Disorders of the respiratory system can be

pulmonary edema, pulmonary embolism, pulmonary hypertension)
Infectious, environmental and other diseases ( pneumonia, tuberculosis, asbestosis, particulate

How are infections of upper respiratory tract different from those of lower respiratory tract?
The main difference is the location of the infection. An upper respiratory tract infection would include
infection of the nose, nasal cavity, nasal and paranasal sinuses, the larynx and pharynex. A lower
respiratory infection would include infection of the traches, bronchi, or bronchial tree, the lungs or
pleural cavitiy.
Why are infections of the upper respiratory tract milder as compared to those pertaining to the lower
respiratory tract?
Lower rspiratory tract infections have secretions low down that can block the airways and prevent
sufficient oxygen being available to the lungs (Health Blurbs, 2015).
. Upper respriatory tract infections aren t so bad because if your nose is blocked you can breathe
through your mouth , so oxygen availability isn t much of an issue.

an upper respiratory tract infection may include rest, increased fluid intake, over the counter

Men and Women in British Literature Essay
The portrayal of men and women has varied in different stories throughout history. Many portray
women as beautiful, deceptive, manipulative, and smart, while men are portrayed as being strong,
masculine, and easily tricked. In many of the works covered in the course Major British Writers to
1800, men are advised to refrain from acting lustful, believed that it would harm their overall ability to
succeed in whatever the characters aimed to do. An example of this is seen in Sir Gawain and the
Green Knight when Gawain is deceived by Lady Bertilak in an effort to prove that Sir Gawain is
imperfect. The depictions of men and women are very similar in Fantomina by Eliza Haywood, Sir
Gawain and the Green Knight, and Phyllis and Aristotle. . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Sir Gawain was nearly beheaded as was Aristotle in their stories, the result of the deception by
Fantomina was an unplanned pregnancy. I feel that Haywood shows morality in this result because,
unlike other works, the man is not punished for being deceived, with the only real trouble of
Beauplaisir being that he knows of the existence of his child, which is an internal punishment for his
actions. Beauplaisir being unpunished and having his name remain untarnished while Fantomina was
sent to a monastery with her child is an example of how Haywood remained consistent with the
portrayal of other works in regards to male and female portrayal while also distinguishing herself and
her work from other works. The portrayal of women in Milton s Paradise Lost is very different from
the other works. While women are often seen as being deceitful, devious, and smart, the depiction of
Eve is different as she is seen as being dumber and more inferior to Adam in all areas besides beauty.
This portrayal of Eve assisted in the progression of Paradise Lost as Eve ate the forbidden apple after
being persuaded by Satan to eat the apple. While the incident caused Adam to also disobey God, it
created a bond between Adam and Eve that was greater than before the incident when they were
considered pure. The bond between Adam and Eve that is improved through the learning of new
emotions, trying new things, and the

Compare And Contrast Athens And Athenian Democracy
Athens and Sparta were two powerful city states, different from each other where Athenian democracy
focused on economic advancement, while Sparta oligarchy focused on military force. Democracy is a
system of government where citizens have the right to vote, whereas oligarchy is a system of
government where only a group of people is in control and only their opinion or decision that were
taken into consideration. Leading to the thesis statement that people are better served by Athenian
democracy than the Spartan oligarchy, supported in three evidence points. Firstly, Athenian democracy
allowed citizens participation in government that gave them freedom to vote and take part in
legislation. Secondly, the Athenian government provided Athenian men better education, by being
taught how to read and write to reach their academic advancement. Lastly, the Athenian democracy s
contribution to Athens military advancement that protected its citizens.
The Athenian citizen had a further contribution to the government than Spartans citizens. The
Athenian government allowed its citizens to take part in government positions, aside from military
positions, as it stated on a textbook, Echoes from the Past that Every citizen had an equal chance to
hold public office (Newman, Echoes from the Past, page132). Which signifies that being in the
government position means having the capability to rule and not wealth. In the Athenian democracy,
each council member and government officials had an

Introduction to psychology
TASK 1
Psychodynamic is an approach within psychoanalysis (a human behaviour theory) which was found
by Sigmund Freud. He believed that the unconscious mind which was developed primarily from
childhood experiences is what drives our behaviour. Freud thought of the human mind as though it
was an iceberg the conscious mind (which you re in control of) as the tip, and the unconscious mind
(which you have no control over) as the larger part of the iceberg. This led to him believing that
personality was made up of 3 important elements, ID (instinct e.g. sex, hunger, lust, aggression and so
on), Ego (reality and how you perceive the world) and Superego (morality, following rules within
society and being sensible).
Behaviourism is a psychological approach that emphasis on environmental factors influencing
observable human behaviour. This approach consists of two main processes: Classical conditioning
which means learning things by associating them with something e.g. if you ate Chinese food before
and it made you feel queasy and unwell then the next time you see Chinese food you will associate it
to that experience you had before. Operant conditioning which means learning things by positive and
negative reinforcement and association e.g. when you do well in school and your parents buy you the
game you ve always wanted (positive reinforcement).
A key difference between the two is the nature and the nurture debate. The psychodynamic theory
takes both

Youth Sports Research Paper
Competitive sports in some cases are becoming unhealthy for children. Most children would rather
play on a losing team than sit on the bench of a winning team. Youth sports are a great idea to get
children up and active, as well as improve their social skills. Just like every other thing in life it is
important to practice and work hard to achieve success. However it is unhealthy to foster the results
over the wants or needs or wants of the child. Aside from the mental stress that young athletes may
experience from intense training and physical play long lasting injures is a growing concern. Fact is
competitive sports is a double edge sword if done right it is the greatest thing world, but if done wrong
it can be very unhealthy for a child.
When you are dealing with young kids it is important to stress effort over results. Meaning winning is

on time, and is paying attention and learning what s going on it good. However you get the parents for

child especially at a young age.
There s absolutely no evidence that says that if an athlete plays organized sports that will guarantee
success as a teen or adult. Youth sports should never be about outcome, but based of want and desire
of the child not the parent. What tends to happen is that practice turns into 7 days a week to 365 days a
year. There a rise in cases where parents are even holding their kids back a grade to try and give a
competitive edge over other kids. What was once fun is now looked at as hard work and no longer
enjoyable to do. This burns kids out mentally and physically. Not to mention they are missing out on
their child hood, and for what just to please the

New Imperialism In Europe
New imperialism is often described as the quick increase and take over of land that European powers
had during the 19th century. New imperialism was a movement that erupted very suddenly. Many of
the European powers were actually opposed to the idea of taking over new territories. Of course, as
time progressed, all of that changed. Sense there was a creation of new nations; these nations need
resources to be able to establish themselves. Italy and Germany were the two new nations that used
imperialism initially. The change of balance cause more stable European powers to want more control.

The scramble was a plan to take over unindustrialized locations around the world and claim them as
colonial possessions. Eventually these lands that were taken over were used for their natural resources.
These natural resources were normally used for European industrial complexes. The way the European
colonists justified their actions was by using social Darwinism through natural selection. They
believed that the European race was more superior or stronger than any other in the world. This reason
is why they conquered Africa. Another factor for the colonization by Europeans was the missionaries.
The missionaries used a less aggressive form of social Darwinism. Missionaries felt that their purpose
was to civilize Africans and spread Christianity. Real colonization of Africa happened after the
Brussels geographical conference. This conference resulted in the creation of African international
association. Later the Berlin conference happened and Europe portioned the whole continent of Africa.

the first child is a healthy boy but then the second child that comes out is a little girl with the signs of

the baby girl died. Through out the entire book it is a struggle for Dr. Henry s wife Norah to have
closure with the fact that her baby girl is said to be dead and she never saw her, held her, or cared for

But David, you missed a lot of joy . In the theme that life is beyond our control the author Kim
Edwards has the book move through the years rapidly and at a fast pace in order to demonstrate how
life flys by. Throughout the book Edwards uses photography as a metaphor showing the character
David s growing obsession with taking photographs as a desperate attempt to make time stand still:
Photo after photo, as if he could stop time or make an image powerful enough to obscure the moment
when he turned and handed his daughter to Caroline Gill . Life may also feel as it is out of their
control with there being a constant aura of uncertainty or what if quality. That being said, the
characters in the end will always wonder what life would have been like if David had never given his
daughter away, but find it exhausting to wonder once they are brought together in the end after the
death of David. As Paul reflects at the end of the novel: His mother was right; he could never know
what might have happened. All he had were the facts . Life was also seeming to be out of anyone s
control with the struggle of the melancholy tone through the novel with Norah becoming more and
more depressed becoming that of a drinker in Paul s young life and then being so unhappy with her
marriage with David for him being so distant that she has an affair with a man while she is on a trip to
Aruba with her job. Even with the tone the author seems to have it progress in a

Fever Epidemic In Laurie Halse Anderson s Fever 1793
The historical fiction story Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson takes place in Philadelphia during
the yellow fever epidemic of 1793. Matilda, the main character in the story, wanted to go out and
explore the city. Her mother wouldn t let her go out because of the fear of the yellow fever. Because of
this fear, people started leaving the city of Philadelphia and went to the country. Because of this, a
good theme for Fever 1793 would be that if people stayed in Philadelphia and worked together, there
would be better outcomes. If people worked together there would be better outcomes. For example,
Mattie and Eliza walked around the city helping others that had the fever. They were working together
and there was a better outcome. People who were sick got taken care of when they were forgotten by
others. The outcome was also better for Mattie as she matured and helped Eliza when she didn t need
to. No... I m not going anywhere. The work will go faster if you have me there. Mattie says. (pg. 196)
Mattie was helping the sick and the dying and both people had a better outcome. Therefore, when
people work together there are better outcomes for everyone. Certainly it could be said that when
people work together there are worst outcomes. While this is a good point... it fails to account for the
fact that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

An example of this is that Matthew Clarkson (mayor of Philadelphia) and his committee worked
together to make the city cleaner. They would add sewer systems and clean drinking water to the city
to help prevent another epidemic. Anderson creates the lesson in Fever 1793 by using dialogue and
inner thoughts. By the end, it is clear that people started to working together to create better

Multicolored pants, synchronized leg and arm movements, doll like features, and screaming fans at

friendly girls next door. Upon further research, it becomes apparent that this South Korean girl group
ranks as one of the highest revenue earning legacies in girl group history, earning over 21 billion won
in the first three quarters of 2011. Alongside Girls Generation, comedic singer Psy s Gangnam Style
music video has generated 2.5 billion views and Korean boy group Big Bang has generated a revenue
of 44 million dollars in 2016. The rise of the Korean pop industry and global phenomenon is most
notably attributed to several factors: creators, distribution, consumers, and content. Most interestingly,
the prominence of K pop music and artists on consumer goods, advertisements, social media, and
daily life, has profoundly influenced ideological standards of domestic and international culture. With
technology, social media, training programs, and international popularity, the Korean pop music
industry has played a significant role in shifting consumerism, standards of beauty, gender and societal
roles, music production trends, international culture, and the future of the industry as a whole.

Cone And The Oppression Of God
One of Cone s most significant assertions is the declaration of God s ontological blackness. This very
strong standpoint has been taken to emphasize the fact that God stands with the oppressed. For this
same reason, in a society where oppression is associated with color of the skin, God could never be
colorless (Floyd and Pinn 21). Throughout the history of Christianity, God and Jesus Christ have
always been depicted as white as one way to justify the oppression of African Americans and the
supremacy of white people. To assert that God and Jesus are black also serves as a way to remind
people of the injustices committed against black people. Indeed, Jesus was marginalized by the Jews,
just like black people have been marginalized by the caucasian dominant community. Jesus was also
killed as he was trying to subvert an unjust social order, just like many black people have been killed
while trying to subvert white supremacy. This is also the reason why Cone compares the cross of Jesus
with lynching trees. Another very interesting point made by Cone that strictly relates to the context of
oppression from which Black theology was raised is the belief that since all humans are made in the
image and likeness of God, none of them is created to be oppressed, but they are all meant for
freedom. This also links to the theme of salvation which Cone identifies with liberation, and is seen in
terms of bringing about the kingdom of God, heaven, which is also earthly, and that is the place

Democracy And The Liberal Democracy
Democracy varies in every country depending on the type of government or regime they have. There
is the liberal democracy, which is all about giving people their rights and liberties; everything is done
through fair voting and electing. The people are aware of everything that happens in their government.
Illiberal democracies are basically the same as liberal, but the people in power are more secretive of
their activities, and there is less civil liberty. It is essentially a partial democracy. Now Authoritarian
regimes designate any political system that concentrates power in the hands of one leader or a small
elite. There are no free elections and very little regard for the law. Political institutions, social
structures, and the democratic rule of law all affect liberal, illiberal, and authoritarian regimes
democratic quality differently. First, liberal democracies are more open with the people. The
philosophical traditions of a liberal democratic republic are democracies, liberalism, and
republicanism. Democracies try to be equal with all, it stresses public rights, it reaches for what the
majority wants, and it is very protective against authoritarianism. In liberalism, natural rights can t be
violated, private rights are very important, no one is above the law, and the government has no rights.
In republicanism the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. The chief executive is chosen
through lections, and every citizen has their right to vote. Political

How Is Diction Used In Literature
A character s usage of words can create not only emotions for others, but for their own as well.
Throughout Indian and Pakistani literature, a character s emotions on him or herself is expressed
throughout the experience of the past. Through their literature, authors wrote their stories through the
1900s, where certain events occurred at the time. which makes an impact due to their experiences
through those time. Accordingly, India s authors and their stories express different types of diction

The Lines Between Sanity And Insanity
The lines between sanity and insanity are commonly tested in young adult literature. Shown to be
entirely based on individual perception, sanity or insanity attempt to form a reflection of the characters
personalities. In society, as shown in the novels, people are often too quick to write off nonconformist
as crazy or insane. Girl, Interrupted and One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest both illustrate how society
s stern view cause them to treat mental illness unethically and take away from individualism. Minds
may be altered through prescribed medication until they are faded husks of what they once were, As
seen in both Susanna Kaysen s Girl, Interrupted and Ken Kesey s One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest,
those who do not conform to society are shunned and their personalities, the very things that make
them individuals, are broken. The patients in both of these novels either become more paranoid or
drugged into a nearly unconscious state. Personalities and individualism is lost at the hands of
unethical and ineffective medications and procedures to fix the diagnoses of itchy handed doctors.
Minds may be altered through prescribed medication until they are faded husks of what they once
were. Those who don t fall into social norms are out casted and quickly written off as crazy or insane.
They are placed into institutions in an attempt to fix them or in other words remove them from society
until they are acceptable. At the start of the novels the reader has a fairly set opinion

Discipleship Within The Gospel Of John
Discipleship within the Gospel of John is multifaceted. Discipleship cannot alone be described as
follower of Christ because such an individual must be chosen by God, believe in Christ, witness
publically about Jesus, be open to and/or be persecuted for the faith, and participate in the reception of
the Body and Blood of Christ. Since discipleship is not a vocation that humans can choose for
themselves, God must call and pick his chosen peoples. An example of Christ choosing those whom
would be His disciples is seen in John 1:37 39 in which Jesus invites two of John of the Baptist s
disciples who had been following Him to Come and ...see (John 1:39). This invitation for the two
disciples to join was extended by God and this discipleship is divinely initiated. This divine invitation
to Andrew and the other disciple is also extended to Simeon Peter (John 1:41 42), Philip (1:43 44),
and Nathanael (1:45 51). With each call to Follow me (1:43), Christ gains another disciple, thus
discipleship is not possible by human will, but only through divine initiative. An example of how
human will cannot be a cause for discipleship is seen in Nicodemus human desire to believe and be a
disciple (3:1 13). Because Christ has not called him by name to be a disciple, Nicodemus cannot grasp
the idea of being reborn because he views this a problem to be solved rather than a mystery to
encounter (3:4). Faith beyond the worldliness of his reality was impossible for Nicodemus, without

Barriers In Chinese Cinderella
Every adolescent has struggles and problems that need to be resolved throughout their life, however,
one constant is that their parents are always there for them. Whether they fix the problem themselves,
or help their child through it, the child almost always receives the help they require. A quote from
Mending Wall by Robert Frost helps describe what it is like when the parents are not there for the
child. Something there is that doesn t love a wall, that sends the frozen ground swell under it, and
spills the upper boulders in the sun; and makes gaps even two can pass abreast (1). In this instance, the
child is the wall, and the parent is the person that does not love it. Slowly, the child will break apart,
and eventually collapse without the affection and support they need. In Chinese Cinderella by Adeline
Yen Mah, this is one of the few unfortunate exceptions where the child doesn t acquire assistance from
any parent. Adeline had many occurrences within her community that changed her mentality, one
being that her self esteem declined, and made her feel like she needs to prove herself worthy, no
matter the circumstance. Adeline s step mother, Niang, never fails to be uncouth towards her, not just
by damaging her self esteem, but also through verbal and physical abuse (whipping, hitting, etc.). I
approached her gingerly, trembling with terror. She slapped my face so hard I almost fell... ...she
slapped me with the back of her hand against my other cheek (Mah 114 115).

Columbus Before The Council Of Samaca Analysis
The artwork my group of three chose to describe for this assignment is called Columbus Before the
Council of Salamaca. William H. Powell painted it in 1847. The professor said to identify three
stylistic characteristics, however I am going to identify four of my favorite stylistic characteristics.
Theatricality, immediacy, human drama, and descriptive realism of particulars are the four stylistic
characteristics from different stylistic periods I am going to pinpoint and describe in the painting.
Theatricality is the use of light and shadowy dark to create a spotlight effect, also known as tenebrism.

Caravaggio painted it in the year ca. 1597 1601 and it can be found on page 539 of the texbook. The
artworks named the Calling of Mathew and Columbus Before the Council of Salamaca are both
similar in many ways. They both have the four stylistic characteristics of human drama, immediacy,
theatricality, and discriptive realism of particulars. In Columbus Before the Council of Salamaca
Powell used the same technique as Caravaggio to create windoms that allow the afternoon sunlight to
reflect on the figures at a particular angle. Powell made his windoms visible to the viewer, however
Caravaggio did not; he just gave the viewer a sense of having one. They both used light and shadowy
dark to create a spot light effect on their figures, the term known as theatricality. Both of these
paintings display a great deal of human drama, the first painting show Columbus infront the concil
men trying to convince them of his finding, while the second is a babically scene of Jesus Calling
Mathew, who was then Levi the tax collector. Those surrounding Jesus were surprise that he wanted a
man that must of them thought was the biggest sinner of all to follow him and so were those listening
to Mr. Columbus. The immediacy play a great role in both of the paintings, in Calling of Saint

Nursing Practice in a Given Scenario
Nursing Practice and Responsibilities 2 Introduction Many older people fear that a hospital stay could
leave them even more disabled than they were before. Unfortunately, there s new reason to believe
this fear is justified. Elderly patients who are hospitalized are at much higher risk of cognitive
problems afterward, according to a study published on Wednesday in the journal Neurology. Joan
would have to witness a number of stressful psychological factors. For one he would be unfamiliar
with his new surroundings. He had lived with his daughter in law and son for quite some time and
now was accustomed to that environment. He had adjusted to it. This new environment may be a
source of intimidation for him. He may be sharing a room with people he hardly knows and are hence
complete strangers to him. There may be several stressful triggers like a new bed, an eccentric smell,
the room being too hot or cold or having to eat cold or tasteless food. The sources of stress for and
threats to patients arise from circumstances of the hospital setting, the behaviour of hospital staff, the
patients own behaviour and the built hospital environment. Although anxiety and distress are negative
states that most people would choose to avoid anyway, they are particularly relevant when their
influence on physical recovery is examined. The various ways in which stress can slow recovery and
in which buffers against stress can speed recovery are of central importance to the training of

The Day Of The World
Every single person is frightened of death, or has a fear of being left behind. Death of a person is very
terrifying, yet the end of humanity and universe is not even imaginable. Humankind has been
wondering how and when will the Earth end for thousands of years, to be prepared spiritually and
religiously or just to decide whether to spend all the money that a person has or enjoy the life more.
Exemptionalist, environmentalist, universe and judgement day are a few known and existing concepts.
Initially, exemptionalists are the people who believes that humankind should stop worrying because
they can withstand all the situations. On the other hand, environmentalists are the people who believes
humankind is a part of nature so they point out that humankind is related to environment directly,
hence humankind is affected by all the problems associated with the environment. Universe is the
place where everything stays and occurs in. The day of judgement is the time many religions accept
that God will end the life which we live. Mainly theories about end of the world can be separated into
three groups which are the end by the human based problems, physical destruction of universe and the
order of God. Although the human based damages on the Earth are getting more and more serious and
physical collapse of universe makes sense scientifically, the decision of ending the world will only be
in the hands of the owner of everything, the God, not the humankind.

The Watts Music Festival
In a world of political discourse with racism and hate running rampant, a few great men and women
came together to bring unity and harmony like never before: in the form of massive music festivals. In
the late 1972, the black community came together for a concert known as Watts Summer Festival. In
1969, the largest music festival of its time was held, and was known as Woodstock. Later that year, the
Rolling Stones put together a massive free concert in San Francisco known as the Altamont Concert.
All of the concerts and music festivals were not aimed at making money or becoming famous, but
about the unity of people through the art of music. On August 20, 1972, the Watts music festival was
held in Los Angelas. This was a festival put together by the Stax recording company in order to honor
the men, women, and children who were devastated in the riots in Watts, a primarily African American
community. Performers in this eight hour festival included James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Isaac Hayes,
the late Harmonica Fats, WAR, Richard Pryor, Nancy Wilson, Gil Scott Heron, Barry White, the Watts

New York Police Department, the New York City Department of Probation, local schools, the New
York City Law Department and Criminal Court. The majority of cases are for shoplifting, truancy, and
fighting. When Mia heard this she looked very excited because one of her goal was to find a program
or internship related to criminal justice. The only problem was that Mia told me she applied for the
Summer Youth Employment (SYEP), and PENCIL so she is unsure if she will start college in the
summer. I asked her if she can keep me updated and let me know by our next session. After I help her
finish her application for a program called Pencil a paid internship that helps students receive real

Essay on Analysis of Joy Williams Save the Whales, Screw...
Analysis of Joy Williams Save the Whales, Screw the Shrimp
Save the Whales, Screw the Shrimp is an essay written by Joy Williams, about the overwhelming
complacency that todays culture shows towards nature.Williams argues in a very satirical way, that
todays culture has all but completely lost touch with what nature really is, and that unless we as a
nation change our morals regarding the role that nature plays in human existence, we may very well
be witnessing the dawn of our own destruction.
An Evaluation of: Save the Whales, Screw the Shrimp
Williams is very satirical in the presentation of her topic, and the way that she addresses the reader
from the very first paragraph is very interesting inasmuch as she is almost ... Show more content on

Although many would agree that Williams has a very good point, her writing style belies conflict even
in her own views. For instance, she attempts to use her satire as a way of shocking the reader into
feeling her personal pain regarding the issue. However, if she truly felt as strongly as she would lead
one to believe, then it stands to reason that she would much rather have written an essay which
touched personal points in the lives of those who are percived to be the overindulgent, complacent,
and disrespectful citizens of our decadent culture. In this way she may have accomplished what she set
out to do in the beginning with this essay, which was to convince the target culture they need to
change their ways before it?s too late.
The overwhelming feeling througout the entire essay is that, ?This lady is on a rant?, and it is apparent
in the closing paragraphs of the essay that this was her intention, but the essay ends there, and seems
to come up short of a punchline. While most self proclaimed environmentalists would say that
Williams did a wonderful job jabbing our glutenous culture where it hurts, those of a more dedicated
banter would wonder just how much of a bite does this author take during her turn at the plate. It
would seem that she places herself outside of this realm of over utilization to the point where one can
only imagine her standing in a loin cloth eating bannanas all day. Take her affront on the

Literary Analysis Of Amores Perros
Come to Clarity
Typically, photographs are considered nothing more than tangible items that invoke nostalgia. Having
a character ponder over a photo typically gives the image no more value than a McGuffin. Alejandro
González Iñárritu s Amores Perros (2000) on the other hand, asks the viewer to re evaluate the concept
of the photograph both literally and figuratively throughout the film. The meaning of a photograph can
be considered the glue on this story; the symbol is dynamic enough to provide each character with a
moment of reflection, and the audience a window into the subjective perspective at the peak of a
character s diegesis. Using the photograph loosely in this fashion allows it to be one of the key
elements to tie together three radically different stories, despite the symbol s lack of dedicated screen
time. Before diving into each individual character s world, it helps to look at the background of the
new, circa 2000, director Alejandro Iñárritu. Alejandro started his career with a passion for music
working with radio; that original passion is visible throughout Amores Perros as sound is used to
articulate the set space and time. Sound mimics patterns found throughout the story and Alejandro
frequently positions it to juxtaposition the narrative. With that being in mind there are few scenes
where we are met with no background noise, and no dialogue. Looking at these we can see Alejandro
graces the film with three powerful character defining images, each

34.7 drops. The next highest amount that was able to stay on the penny was H₂O, which had an
average of 26.3 drops. After that was ethanol which average 25.3 drops, and finally, soap, which
averaged 22.7. When these drop counts were converted to mL, the results were 1.566 mL of NaCl on
the penny, 1.143 H₂O on the penny, 0.527 mL of ethanol on the penny, and 0.413 mL of soap on the

This is a very strong type of intermolecular force, which results in a high boiling point and a lot of
surface tension. H₂O has the second highest amount of substance on the penny because H₂O consists
of hydrogen bonds, which are very strong but not as strong as ion dipole bonds. This is why H₂O had a
lot of surface tension, but slightly less than NaCl. Ethanol had the third most amount of substance on
the penny, and this is because ethanol also has hydrogen bonds like H₂O, but because ethanol is a a
bigger molecule there are less bonds, and therefore less surface tension. Soapy water had the least
amount of substance on the penny, and this is because soap molecules have hydrophobic ends, so
when they are mixed with water molecules, they break the surface tension created by the strong
hydrogen bonds. The impact of the intermolecular forces: hydrogen bonds, London Dispersion Forces,
dipole dipole attraction, and ion dipole attraction were investigated in this lab, and it was determined
that ion dipole attraction results in the greatest amount of surface tension, followed by hydrogen
bonds, dipole dipole attractions, and London Dispersion

The UK academy for Information Systems defines information systems as the means by which organisations and people, using information technologies, gather, process, store, use and disseminate information Cashmore and Lyall (1991), explain that the purpose of Information System is to: * Collect and store data which may be converted into information at some later point in time * Provide operational information to ensure that everyone can do their job as well as possible and to assist in the general running of the organisation * Extend the value chain of the business so that the organisation s information system can link with the information system of customers and suppliers. One of the Critical Success Factors (CSF) that enables effective decision making is Information sharing . This allows managers to take the right decision at the right time. According to C. One night there was a tornado warning, and the strong winds and rain had cut off all the power to the house. All we had to that night was tell stories, and one tale brought up was about the county we were in. While the urban legend intrigued me, you could easily identify the overarching message of the tale which was to be cautious at night. According to the legend, in 1904 an insane asylum was being shut down per request from residents of Fairfax County. During the transfer there was an accident allowing the inmates to escape into a forest. While some were detained, others were killed because of their hostility. Police officers were able to find all but two people, Marcus and Douglas that were still missing. Local police officers followed a trail of dead rabbits in the forest that lead them to a bridge. Hanging from the bridge was Marcus with a note attached to his foot that read: you ll never find the bunny man . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The story was created to scare us, but why does it also evoke fear of those with mental illness as well? The legend associates those institutionalized in an asylum as being murderers, when in reality they re mutually exclusive. Being institutionalized doesn t mean you re killer. The transfer of inmates in the urban legend only occurred per request of the residents of Fairfax. Some studies have shown that preservice teachers and in service elementary teachers have knowledge gaps in their mathematics content and pedagogical content knowledge (e.g., Ball, 1990; Ma, 1999). The knowledge that teachers have for teaching influence their instruction and the lack of such can limit how they teach mathematics for understanding (Borko Putnam, 1996). For this reason, teacher preparation programs and professional development forums should emphasize and provide the opportunities for learning to teach mathematics for conceptual understanding. Not only do such opportunities build on preservice teachers mathematics content knowledge, but they also introduce them to the new ways of teaching mathematics that they may not have experienced in their earlier mathematics learning. The findings from this study suggest that frequent experiences in learning mathematics for conceptual understanding through particular strategies is related to an increase in PSTs knowledge about teaching mathematics. In particular, more opportunities that allow PSTs to learn to show why a procedure works was significantly related to the average PSTs increase in content knowledge between the teacher preparation programs in the United States. Similarly, within the Polish generalist, United States specialist, and Russian teacher preparation programs the relationships between the OTL to show why procedures work and ... • 7. Assimilation And Culture In Rita Hook s Eating Vinegar Assimilation vs Cultural Pacification It is no secret that people in a foreign land often struggle to assimilate into other cultures. This feat is particularly difficult in China where cultural and familial ties are deep seated. In Eating Vinegar, Rita Hooks describes the great lengths one must be willing to go to become accepted in a new culture. She uses foot binding among other Chinese practices and customs to explain how ridiculous it is to force others to give up their culture and adopt the prevalent one rather than blend them. One of the most obvious things which distinguished Sadie from her new peers was her language. Hooks consistently points out the language barrier by always mentioning when people didn t understand her or spoke in different languages. She also points out when different terms are used between the two cultures such as kitchen cleaver. Another way language separates Sadie from society is her job. Her career was limited to tutoring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though most modern Chinese women do not have bound feet, it was still used to evoke racism toward Sadie. Heng s feelings toward the size of sadie s feet become evident as the story progresses. He begins with the attitude that he likes big feet saying that she was his all American girl. • 8. Critical Analysis Of Requiem For A Dream Requiem for a Dream is a 2000 psychological drama directed by Darren Aronofsky. The story follows four characters as they struggle with, and eventually succumb to their different addictions. This leads to the characters imprisonment in a world of delusions and reckless desperation that is eventually overtaken by reality. The film makes effective use of imagery and sound to create the feeling of the film reeling towards the end at an impossible pace. By the end of the movie, the characters are completely changed: withered, broken, and alone. Requiem for a Dream was screened at the 2000 Cannes film festival, and was met with primarily positive reviews. Darren Aronofsky created the feeling of the film speeding up by shortening the length of the scenes as the film progresses. At the beginning of the movie scenes are 90 seconds to 2 minutes in length, and it s by shortening the length of scenes and frames that he created a sense of unease within the audience. In this ever growing age of technology and advancement, more and more people are either looking very seriously into or have already transitioned from ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles. The transition is seemingly a slow one for the majority of the public and although it is understandable, it is also inevitable. Combustion engine vehicles have been around for over a century and have dominated the car industry greatly. The reliance on ICE engines can be visible in any direction someone turns, walking through the streets of any city. The mindset that ICE rules, and is the only efficient and viable method of transportation is slowly being replaced by the ever decreasing well of fossil fuels and oil on earth. Oil has been the spine of the Earth and the gasoline car, it s pumping heart. There are many reasons that more and more people are turning to electric. Some of the advantages are: Higher efficiency by as much as 400 to 600 percent over an internal combustion engine No polluting byproducts because this car gets its power from batteries, the wind or the sun Three times as efficient as gas engines Is extremely safe Gets better mileage than any other car on the road Quiet to drive Convenient Durable Although everyone has his or her personal motivations to owning and driving electric, some ... The Oppression Of Humanity And Nature In The Puritan Society Moral law is an essential aspect of human existence, since the birth of Earth, humans have been expected to act a certain way by roles made by God. Similar to what Plato discussed in Symposium, all human live in an orderly universe, determined by God s image. With the Puritan religion, Man has taken to God s ultimate plan to dictate his own way of life. Upholding this standard of perfectionism in society influenced a trend of oppressive culture throughout the Puritan society. This concept of God s image of perfection creates a complex social norms and peer pressure that can result in an individual denying his or her self. While God s perceived perfection is being upheld in society, God s true power reveals the truth in the world. Through nature, God reveals the truth of one s soul and can be an escape from society s oppressive nature. Nathaniel Hawthorne argues in The Scarlet Letter (1850), that Natural magnifies the truth of an individual s innocence. • 15. How Does Iron Affect The Body The mineral iron (Fe) is a crucial substance for the human body. Many parts of the body, including red blood cells, require iron in order for the body to function normally. Only specific amounts of iron are absorbed by the body to maintain homeostasis. However, iron is a very toxic mineral so if there is too much iron stored in the body, it can lead to serious consequences. People that suffer from haemochromatosis, a hereditary iron disorder, are unable to regulate the amount of iron absorbed from their diet. Almost all iron in the intestine is absorbed into the blood stream and because the human body has no major way to rid of excess iron, it is stored in organs and joints of the body where it can cause serious harm. Typically, the body stores one gram or less of iron but people with haemochromatosis can have up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Iron homeostasis is controlled though a negative feedback loop that involves hormones, including Hepcidin, which are released to control the absorption of iron. With haemochromatosis, the production of these hormones is affected. Over time, the build up of iron has a serious effect on cells in the body which can lead to other fatal diseases or even premature death. It is vital that the body contains a stable amount of iron. This level of iron is regulated through iron homeostasis. On average, people take in 10 to 20 mg of iron a day but only absorb 10%. Usually around 1mg of iron is also lost each day meaning the gain of iron equals the loss. This maintains iron in the body at a stable level. Iron and many other minerals are absorbed through enterocytes, absorbing cells that make up the small intestine. These cells are the regulators for how much iron is moved into the blood stream meaning they only move it if the body sees a need for it. Throughout the book Edwards uses photography as a metaphor showing the character David s growing obsession with taking photographs as a desperate attempt to make time stand still: Photo after photo, as if he could stop time or make an image powerful enough to obscure the moment when he turned and handed his daughter to Caroline Gill . Life may also feel as it is out of their control with there being a constant aura of uncertainty or what if quality. That being said, the characters in the end will always wonder what life would have been like if David had never given his daughter away, but find it exhausting to wonder once they are brought together in the end after the death of David. • 31. Fever Epidemic In Laurie Halse Anderson s Fever 1793 The historical fiction story Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson takes place in Philadelphia during the yellow fever epidemic of 1793. Matilda, the main character in the story, wanted to go out and explore the city. Her mother wouldn t let her go out because of the fear of the yellow fever. Because of this fear, people started leaving the city of Philadelphia and went to the country. Because of this, a good theme for Fever 1793 would be that if people stayed in Philadelphia and worked together, there would be better outcomes. If people worked together there would be better outcomes. For example, Mattie and Eliza walked around the city helping others that had the fever. They were working together and there was a better outcome. People who were sick got taken care of when they were forgotten by others. The outcome was also better for Mattie as she matured and helped Eliza when she didn t need to. No... I m not going anywhere. The work will go faster if you have me there. Mattie says. (pg. 196) Mattie was helping the sick and the dying and both people had a better outcome. Therefore, when people work together there are better outcomes for everyone. Certainly it could be said that when people work together there are worst outcomes. While this is a good point... it fails to account for the fact that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They would add sewer systems and clean drinking water to the city to help prevent another epidemic. Anderson creates the lesson in Fever 1793 by using dialogue and inner thoughts. • 33. Cone And The Oppression Of God One of Cone s most significant assertions is the declaration of God s ontological blackness. This very strong standpoint has been taken to emphasize the fact that God stands with the oppressed. For this same reason, in a society where oppression is associated with color of the skin, God could never be colorless (Floyd and Pinn 21). Throughout the history of Christianity, God and Jesus Christ have always been depicted as white as one way to justify the oppression of African Americans and the supremacy of white people. To assert that God and Jesus are black also serves as a way to remind people of the injustices committed against black people. Indeed, Jesus was marginalized by the Jews, just like black people have been marginalized by the caucasian dominant community. Jesus was also killed as he was trying to subvert an unjust social order, just like many black people have been killed while trying to subvert white supremacy. This is also the reason why Cone compares the cross of Jesus with lynching trees. Another very interesting point made by Cone that strictly relates to the context of oppression from which Black theology was raised is the belief that since all humans are made in the image and likeness of God, none of them is created to be oppressed, but they are all meant for freedom. This also links to the theme of salvation which Cone identifies with liberation, and is seen in terms of bringing about the kingdom of God, heaven, which is also earthly, and that is the place ... • 34. Democracy And The Liberal Democracy Democracy varies in every country depending on the type of government or regime they have. There is the liberal democracy, which is all about giving people their rights and liberties; everything is done through fair voting and electing. The people are aware of everything that happens in their government. Illiberal democracies are basically the same as liberal, but the people in power are more secretive of their activities, and there is less civil liberty. It is essentially a partial democracy. Now Authoritarian regimes designate any political system that concentrates power in the hands of one leader or a small elite. There are no free elections and very little regard for the law. Political institutions, social structures, and the democratic rule of law all affect liberal, illiberal, and authoritarian regimes democratic quality differently. First, liberal democracies are more open with the people. The philosophical traditions of a liberal democratic republic are democracies, liberalism, and republicanism. Democracies try to be equal with all, it stresses public rights, it reaches for what the majority wants, and it is very protective against authoritarianism. In liberalism, natural rights can t be violated, private rights are very important, no one is above the law, and the government has no rights. • 36. The Lines Between Sanity And Insanity The lines between sanity and insanity are commonly tested in young adult literature. Shown to be entirely based on individual perception, sanity or insanity attempt to form a reflection of the characters personalities. In society, as shown in the novels, people are often too quick to write off nonconformist as crazy or insane. Girl, Interrupted and One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest both illustrate how society s stern view cause them to treat mental illness unethically and take away from individualism. Minds may be altered through prescribed medication until they are faded husks of what they once were, As seen in both Susanna Kaysen s Girl, Interrupted and Ken Kesey s One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest, those who do not conform to society are shunned and their personalities, the very things that make them individuals, are broken. The patients in both of these novels either become more paranoid or drugged into a nearly unconscious state. Personalities and individualism is lost at the hands of unethical and ineffective medications and procedures to fix the diagnoses of itchy handed doctors. Minds may be altered through prescribed medication until they are faded husks of what they once were. Those who don t fall into social norms are out casted and quickly written off as crazy or insane. • 37. Discipleship Within The Gospel Of John Discipleship within the Gospel of John is multifaceted. Discipleship cannot alone be described as follower of Christ because such an individual must be chosen by God, believe in Christ, witness publically about Jesus, be open to and/or be persecuted for the faith, and participate in the reception of the Body and Blood of Christ. Since discipleship is not a vocation that humans can choose for themselves, God must call and pick his chosen peoples. An example of Christ choosing those whom would be His disciples is seen in John 1:37 39 in which Jesus invites two of John of the Baptist s disciples who had been following Him to Come and ...see (John 1:39). This invitation for the two disciples to join was extended by God and this discipleship is divinely initiated. This divine invitation to Andrew and the other disciple is also extended to Simeon Peter (John 1:41 42), Philip (1:43 44), and Nathanael (1:45 51). With each call to Follow me (1:43), Christ gains another disciple, thus discipleship is not possible by human will, but only through divine initiative. An example of how human will cannot be a cause for discipleship is seen in Nicodemus human desire to believe and be a disciple (3:1 13). Because Christ has not called him by name to be a disciple, Nicodemus cannot grasp the idea of being reborn because he views this a problem to be solved rather than a mystery to encounter (3:4). Faith beyond the worldliness of his reality was impossible for Nicodemus, without divine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Barriers In Chinese Cinderella Every adolescent has struggles and problems that need to be resolved throughout their life, however, one constant is that their parents are always there for them. Whether they fix the problem themselves, or help their child through it, the child almost always receives the help they require. A quote from Mending Wall by Robert Frost helps describe what it is like when the parents are not there for the child. Something there is that doesn t love a wall, that sends the frozen ground swell under it, and spills the upper boulders in the sun; and makes gaps even two can pass abreast (1). In this instance, the child is the wall, and the parent is the person that does not love it. Slowly, the child will break apart, and eventually collapse without the affection and support they need. In Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah, this is one of the few unfortunate exceptions where the child doesn t acquire assistance from any parent. Adeline had many occurrences within her community that changed her mentality, one being that her self esteem declined, and made her feel like she needs to prove herself worthy, no matter the circumstance. Adeline s step mother, Niang, never fails to be uncouth towards her, not just by damaging her self esteem, but also through verbal and physical abuse (whipping, hitting, etc.). Theatricality, immediacy, human drama, and descriptive realism of particulars are the four stylistic characteristics from different stylistic periods I am going to pinpoint and describe in the painting. Theatricality is the use of light and shadowy dark to create a spotlight effect, also known as tenebrism. Caravaggio painted it in the year ca. 1597 1601 and it can be found on page 539 of the texbook. The artworks named the Calling of Mathew and Columbus Before the Council of Salamaca are both similar in many ways. They both have the four stylistic characteristics of human drama, immediacy, theatricality, and discriptive realism of particulars. In Columbus Before the Council of Salamaca Powell used the same technique as Caravaggio to create windoms that allow the afternoon sunlight to reflect on the figures at a particular angle. Powell made his windoms visible to the viewer, however Caravaggio did not; he just gave the viewer a sense of having one. They both used light and shadowy dark to create a spot light effect on their figures, the term known as theatricality. Both of these paintings display a great deal of human drama, the first painting show Columbus infront the concil men trying to convince them of his finding, while the second is a babically scene of Jesus Calling Mathew, who was then Levi the tax collector. Those surrounding Jesus were surprise that he wanted a man that must of them thought was the biggest sinner of all to follow him and so were those listening to Mr. Columbus. Nursing Practice in a Given Scenario Nursing Practice and Responsibilities 2 Introduction Many older people fear that a hospital stay could leave them even more disabled than they were before. Unfortunately, there s new reason to believe this fear is justified. Elderly patients who are hospitalized are at much higher risk of cognitive problems afterward, according to a study published on Wednesday in the journal Neurology. Joan would have to witness a number of stressful psychological factors. For one he would be unfamiliar with his new surroundings. He had lived with his daughter in law and son for quite some time and now was accustomed to that environment. He had adjusted to it. This new environment may be a source of intimidation for him. He may be sharing a room with people he hardly knows and are hence complete strangers to him. There may be several stressful triggers like a new bed, an eccentric smell, the room being too hot or cold or having to eat cold or tasteless food. The sources of stress for and threats to patients arise from circumstances of the hospital setting, the behaviour of hospital staff, the patients own behaviour and the built hospital environment. Although anxiety and distress are negative states that most people would choose to avoid anyway, they are particularly relevant when their influence on physical recovery is examined. The various ways in which stress can slow recovery and in which buffers against stress can speed recovery are of central importance to the training of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Death of a person is very terrifying, yet the end of humanity and universe is not even imaginable. Humankind has been wondering how and when will the Earth end for thousands of years, to be prepared spiritually and religiously or just to decide whether to spend all the money that a person has or enjoy the life more. Exemptionalist, environmentalist, universe and judgement day are a few known and existing concepts. Initially, exemptionalists are the people who believes that humankind should stop worrying because they can withstand all the situations. On the other hand, environmentalists are the people who believes humankind is a part of nature so they point out that humankind is related to environment directly, hence humankind is affected by all the problems associated with the environment. Universe is the place where everything stays and occurs in. The day of judgement is the time many religions accept that God will end the life which we live. Mainly theories about end of the world can be separated into three groups which are the end by the human based problems, physical destruction of universe and the order of God. Although the human based damages on the Earth are getting more and more serious and physical collapse of universe makes sense scientifically, the decision of ending the world will only be in the hands of the owner of everything, the God, not the humankind. For instance, she attempts to use her satire as a way of shocking the reader into feeling her personal pain regarding the issue. In this way she may have accomplished what she set out to do in the beginning with this essay, which was to convince the target culture they need to change their ways before it?s too late. • 46. Literary Analysis Of Amores Perros Come to Clarity Typically, photographs are considered nothing more than tangible items that invoke nostalgia. Having a character ponder over a photo typically gives the image no more value than a McGuffin. Alejandro González Iñárritu s Amores Perros (2000) on the other hand, asks the viewer to re evaluate the concept of the photograph both literally and figuratively throughout the film. The meaning of a photograph can be considered the glue on this story; the symbol is dynamic enough to provide each character with a moment of reflection, and the audience a window into the subjective perspective at the peak of a character s diegesis. Using the photograph loosely in this fashion allows it to be one of the key elements to tie together three radically different stories, despite the symbol s lack of dedicated screen time. Before diving into each individual character s world, it helps to look at the background of the new, circa 2000, director Alejandro Iñárritu. Alejandro started his career with a passion for music working with radio; that original passion is visible throughout Amores Perros as sound is used to articulate the set space and time. Sound mimics patterns found throughout the story and Alejandro frequently positions it to juxtaposition the narrative. With that being in mind there are few scenes where we are met with no background noise, and no dialogue. This is a very strong type of intermolecular force, which results in a high boiling point and a lot of surface tension. H₂O has the second highest amount of substance on the penny because H₂O consists of hydrogen bonds, which are very strong but not as strong as ion dipole bonds. This is why H₂O had a lot of surface tension, but slightly less than NaCl. Ethanol had the third most amount of substance on the penny, and this is because ethanol also has hydrogen bonds like H₂O, but because ethanol is a a bigger molecule there are less bonds, and therefore less surface tension. Soapy water had the least amount of substance on the penny, and this is because soap molecules have hydrophobic ends, so when they are mixed with water molecules, they break the surface tension created by the strong hydrogen bonds.
