Our Responsibility to Enlightenment
Immanuel Kant, a well known philosopher and writer, once said in his essay An Answer to the
Question: What is Enlightenment?, Nothing is required for this enlightenment, however, except
freedom; and the freedom to question is the least harmful of all, namely, the freedom to use reason
publicly in all matters. But on all sides I hear: Do not argue! The officer says, Do not argue, drill! The
tax man says, Do not argue, pay! The pastor says, Do not argue, believe! Throughout his essay, and
many other works, there is a call to throw off the shackles of blind acceptance and come into a new
light of reason and continuous questioning and analysis. This is the basis for modern science; what we
cannot explain, we explore, and even that which we are certain of is subject to discussion, debate, and
open criticism. In our culture there has been a tacit compliance to allow knowledge and debate fall to
the back burners, behind what experts say and what we read in the newspaper or hear on the
television. There has been an unspoken agreement with the media, the churches, the government, and
even college institutions saying: We don t care to learn or understand. Just tell us what we need to
know to survive, and here s what money we have (plus much that we don t) for you to tell us these
things. I would respectfully, but vehemently disagree with this status quo. As I will continue to
emphasize, reason, debate, and discussion are the paths to knowledge and change that we

Film Analysis Of The Art Film The Wedding Banquet
Art Film: The Wedding Banquet
The wedding banquet is a film which is based around the life of a Chinese born man Wai Tung Gao, a
very successful property developer in New York. Wai Tung hides the fact that he is a homosexual from
his parents who live in China because it is seen as a dishonourable characteristic to have. He must find
himself a fake wife to trick his parents into believing that he is a straight man who they can be proud
of, he eventually chooses one of his tenants called Wei Wei after trying to find the perfect wife
through applications and changes who she is in order to impress his parents, Wai Tung must do this
whilst at the same time trying to maintain his relationship with his boyfriend, Simon. The father of
Wai Tung knows about the relationship between his son and Simon, this scene can be found at 1:35:28
to 1:36:58 of the wedding banquet. The wedding banquet aims to show how perception of sexual
orientation can effect different people of different nationalities and how society looks at people of a
different sexual orientation.
The scene which holds a lot of power in The Wedding Banquet is the scene in which Mr. Gao and
Simon are speaking to each other overlooking some kind of a pier. It is in this part of the film that
Simon realises that Mr. Gao can speak English which is a huge surprise for Simon as he had spent
some of the film trying to speak Chinese to Wai Tung s parents and trying to be polite to them most
likely in hopes that they would

The Lord Of The Flies And The Cold War Essay
The primary conflict in The Lord of the Flies is a portrayal of the strife between democracy and
communism during the Cold War. The Cold War was the result of World War Two, where both
America and Russia wanted to gain influence in the recently ravaged Europe and beyond. America
wanted to continue to globalize and create a capitalist world of free trade, while the Soviets wanted to
spread their influence by establishing communistic proxy states, and form a barrier between
themselves and the capitalistic west. Although the Cold War may have started in Europe, it spread
across the world, into Asia, South and Central America, and the Middle East. The ideologies of the
two emerging superpowers conflicted in many ways, especially politically and ... Show more content

There were real wars, sometimes called proxy wars because they were fought by Soviet allies rather
than the USSR itself along with competition for influence in the Third World, and a major superpower
arms race. In the novel, Ralph and the conch are representative of democracy and the fundamental
principles of the freedom of expression, and Jack is representative of communism and the militaristic
Soviet society. Ralph, after being elected, seeks to build a society of efficiency and prosperity, and
where everyone is able to express themselves when they hold the conch. With the rational guidance of
Piggy and the use of technology, Ralph s society intended to be rescued from the island with as little
violence and consequences as possible. However, Ralph is soon challenged by Jack and his tribe of

The Greatest Physical Of Sports
People love to watch, play, and enjoy sports or cheering for teams. In the majority of sports that are
physical and require a lot of contact that could potentially cause injuries. The most physical of sports
such as hockey, soccer, football, and boxing can make the people who care about them worried for
their health. Some people don t understand that the helmet the players wear don t always prevent the
athletes from getting concussions or the fracture of your skull. You can get a concussion by having
your brain constantly hit your skull. The NFL should take more necessary precautions every time a
player suffers from damage. There is are diseases called CTE which means chronic traumatic
encephalopathy players get playing that turn into medical bills need to be paid for by the NFL because
players often are pressured to ignore the symptoms of a concussion and go back out to play. Players
should be aware of the consequences and risk that can occur when they make these decisions. I
believe that they should study about what can actually happen to their health so that they can prevent
getting concussions and acknowledge the negative effects.
These days most athletes worry about how big their pay checks going to be than actually caring what s
on the scoreboard. A good of players know that if they aren t actually playing the game then they are
not getting paid. If they always keep this concept in their heads than most players will most likely not
tell the coach that they may being

The Relationship Between Modernity and the First World War
The First World War, also known as the Great War of 1914 1918, is not an event that manifested
overnight; it was the result of ever growing tension among European nations. This conflict was
brought about by factors such as, nationalism, militarism, and the Alliance system. An upheaval such
as the First World War was witness to the emergence of the glorification of war, struggle, despair,
destruction and immense loss of life. The First World War brought about a defining moment in the
history of the modern consciousness. The modern world was born anew with a self conscious
awareness of plight and modern society. This awareness has been characterized by a profound sense of
the differences between past and present. The process of modernity ... Show more content on

The effect the war had on both the political and economic sector was so significant that the First
World War marks the commencement of the modern era. Socialist thought emerged due to revolutions
in Russia, and imperialism lost its appeal. A desire to avoid further conflict also arose at the
culmination of the First World War, and individuals hoped that this war would be the war to end all
wars, which encouraged many nations to resolve disputes with one another. The societal structure of
every European nation that participated in the war changed irreversibly. The war not only facilitated
change, it played a powerful role in molding its quality and strength. This view of the war suggests its
pivotal role in directing the destinies of the contemporary world it is in this sense that the war was
possibly a turning point. The class system in Britain was changed and lower class consciousness grew.
New nations were formed in Eastern Europe, and a new identity was to be formed in Germany, an
identity without imperialistic values and goals. Though, not only did European nations change, so to
did warfare. The advancements of the industrial age were applied to weapons and eventually to tactics
as well, changing the face of warfare perpetually. The year 1914 signaled the conclusion of a rather
peaceful century on the European continent, with unparalleled invention and new scientific
developments. The vision of a future filled with peace, nourished by greater than

The Economic Problems Of The United States Economy Essay
Introduction Economics is the science which studies human behavior as a relationship between given
ends and scarce means which have alternative uses ( Supplementary sources for college economics,
n.d.). It is all about making choices. The United States economy has experienced many ups and downs
in its journey with decision making and realizing its economic power. In 1865, when the civil war
ended the United States economy experienced extreme development as a result of urbanization and
industrialization. It is apparent that the United States economy boarded a difficult journey to
ultimately achieve the power it has today ( Industrialization, Urbanization, and Immigration, n.d.).
This essay is going to take an in depth look at the seven course objectives which include, the basic
economic problems that face the American Society, how businesses make economic decisions, ways
people invest money to save for the future, how economic policy affects the individual state, nation,
and world, define concepts of macro and microeconomics and how theories relate to current economic
issues, explain the economic theories and how they apply to the global economy, and lastly how they
enhance managerial decision making processes and abilities. The Economic Problems That Face the
American Society All societies for one reason or another face economic problem. The economic
problem exists because the needs and wants of people are essentially endless; however the resources

40 Yard Dash Research Paper
The most important event in my life was when I beat the record for the fastest time in running the 40
yard dash for all of the University in the whole world, and for Kentucky University track team. It took
place at the Mercede Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana on June 12, 1922. The day after my
grandpa died from helping a lady crossing the street when a car came and the driver was texting and
then suddenly ran him over. So if I would win nationals I would dedicate the win for him. Before I
was about to run the 40 yd. dash the whole track team and Coach Saban prayed for, we can win the
track meet. Once our praying time was done the whole team ran out to the track all electrified and
pumped up to win this meet. After 30 minutes into the track meet I decided to get a gatorade while I
was heading to the vending machine I saw my toughest rival Jackie Robinson passing by with his
team who holds the fastest record in running the 40 yard dash in 3.57 seconds at the University of

Homosexuality and Religion
Opposition to gay marriage has increased since the summer and a narrow majority of Americans also
oppose allowing gays and lesbians to enter legal agreements that fall short of marriage. Moreover,
despite the overall rise in tolerance toward gays since the 1980s, many Americans remain highly
critical of homosexuals and religious belief is a major factor in these attitudes.
A 55% majority believes it is a sin to engage in homosexual behavior, and that view is much more
prevalent among those who have a high level of religious commitment (76%). About half of all
Americans have an unfavorable opinion of gay men (50%) and lesbians (48%), but highly religious
people are much more likely to hold negative views.

But there is evidence that this issue could become problematic for the Democratic presidential
nominee. Voters who support President Bush are largely of one mind on this issue: More than three
quarters (78%) of voters who favor the president s reelection in 2004 oppose gay marriage; more than
half (53%) strongly oppose the idea. But voters who prefer to see a Democrat elected in 2004 are
divided 46% favor gay marriage, 48% oppose. A substantial minority of these Democratic leaning
voters strongly oppose gay marriage (25%).
The survey also shows that Americans remain deeply divided over the essential cause and nature of
homosexuality. A 42% plurality believes that being a homosexual is just the way that some people
prefer to live, no change from a Los Angeles Times survey conducted in 1985. But there has been a
rise in the percentage who say homosexuality is something that people are born with from 20% in the
Times survey to 30% currently. The public also is split on the question of whether a gay person s
sexual orientation can be changed 42% say it can, the same number disagrees.
Still, most Americans say they are comfortable interacting socially with homosexuals. Just one in five
say they are uncomfortable around homosexuals, while 76% say they do not mind being around gays.

Nabokov Point Of View
Nabokov discusses the three points of view he believes an author can write from: the storyteller, the
teacher, and the enchanter. In his last three paragraphs he describes each point of view; he starts with
storyteller. In the second to last paragraph, Nabokov begins expressing his storyteller; he believes the
storyteller remains simple. Readers appreciate the magical little world the author sets up; this type of
point of view only amuses the audience with minimal emotional involvement. Children s books are a
great example of a storyteller approach; it is simplistic and may have meaning to its story. Because
children do not necessarily need major life lessons, they appreciate more of the whimsical aspect of
fictional books. Next is the teacher;

Medical Detoxification In Obama Care
There has been an expectation of society that substance abuse treatment should eliminate alcohol and
illicit drug use while improving individual health and social functioning as to reduce the public safety
threat. The Affordable Care Act of 2010 also known as Obama Care was created with intentions of
expanding the availability of health insurance. In 2011 the President s National Drug Control Strategy
requested investments in screening, intervention and referral to treatment, and expanded the Access to
Recovery voucher program. These initiatives are a start towards total care for alcohol and substance
abuse patients, however from our study we have found that treatment may be best when considered as
a long term possibly life resource for these individuals to become successfully sober and healthy. One
of the initial processes of treatment includes that of medical detoxification. Detoxification, is defined
at the period of time a client is withdrawing from AOD (141). This detox is necessary in regards to
drugs, such as CNS depressants, because of their dangerous withdrawal symptoms (21). Careful
medical supervision in regards to withdrawals as well as medications that may be used in treating
symptoms related to these effects. This process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the horrors of the Jewish Holocaust. Yolen portrays the difference between the fairytale and the ugly
reality through this novel. The character, Gemma, tells a fairytale called Briar Rose to her three

Becca, Gemma s granddaughter, is on a journey to unveil and discover the truth about her identity and

Oh they are much in appreciation and Once upon a time represent that language is a big part of the
novel through the characters. The first quote shows Magda s awkward, broken English, and the second
quote shows Gemma s fairytale. Through the language of a text, readers are able to get the different
ideas about the people s backgrounds and who they are. Irony is often used in Briar Rose, especially
with Josef. Josef represents the prince because he saves Gemma s life during the Holocaust. The
stereotypical view of princes in fairytales is that they rescue the female, and they kiss and live happily
ever after. That was never going to be the case with Gemma and Josef because Josef is a homosexual,
and he was in love with Aron, Gemma s husband. Briar Rose is an allegory for the Holocaust. The
harsh details of her survival are hidden in the magical fairytale, and it softens the impact of reality for
the reader. Jane Yolen s techniques pull through to create an interesting story, and they also help carry
out the different themes throughout the book. The themes of the novel make Briar Rose a good book.

The Effect of Task Complexity on the Relation Between...
1. Introduction
In this study I want to look at the effect of task complexity on the relationship between team based
incentives and performance. I will thus try to find whether task complexity is a moderating variable in
the relation between incentives and performance and specifically try to find whether this effect differs
for individual incentives and team incentives.
When looking at incentive contracts in management accounting literature, usually theories from the
field of economics and psychology are combined. In some circumstances these theories can lead to
quite opposing predictions of the effect of incentives on performance. In general incentive contracts
are a decision influencing control tool used to make sure that people s ... Show more content on

For example Lazear (2000) empirically finds in a manufacturing environment that pay for
performance increases productivity with 44%. On the other hand Bonner et al. (2000) find that only in
about 50 percent of the experiments they examined, financial performance led to improvements in
productivity. This thus means that the relationship between incentives and performance may be
dependent on the situational circumstances and they do not work in every environment. Specifically in
their review of experiments Bonner et al. (2000) find that when the complexity of the task increases
(relative to the skill of the participants), the likelihood of observing a positive effect of incentives on
performance decrease. Bailey and Fessler (2011) also find that monetary incentives are more effective
when the task is less complex. On the other hand in a review of empirical studies on financial
incentives and performance Jenkins et al. (1999) find that financial incentives are generally related to
output quantity but not to quality. Furthermore, they find task type is independent of the relation
between financial incentives and performance. If the performance on a complex task is more difficult
to measure, the agent s effort thus has less influence on the performance measure (more noise, less
sensitivity) and the measure is less effective.
All the above studies are concerned with individual incentives. Apart from research on individual
incentives there is also a lot

A symptom often overlooked called hyperfocus is where one becomes absorbed in tasks that are

one lose track of time and neglect what a person is supposed to be doing. Other symptoms along with
inattentiveness are poor organizational skills, very messy, tendency to procrastinate, trouble starting
and finishing projects, chronic lateness forgetting appointments and important deadlines, often loses
or misplaces items, and overestimates or underestimates the time it takes to complete a task. The
second subtype hyperactive includes being restless, feeling agitated, unable to sit still, always
fidgeting, easily bored, having racing thoughts, craves excitement and attention, often acts out for

conjunction with hyperactivity also contains impulsivity. These symptoms include trouble inhibiting

Contour Featherss
Down feathers are smaller than contour feathers and lack barbules and the accompanying hooklets.
They are soft and fluffy, located beneath the contour feathers. They provide most of a chicken s
insulation. In that respect are various subcategories of down, including natal down, present only at
hatching, and powder down, which is a specialized feather type that throws off a fine, white keratin
powder. The waxy powder is composed of granules so small that it is unreadable and therefore makes
a waterproof barrier for contour feathers. The semi plume is a feather type that mediates between the
categories of contour and down. Semi plumes share characteristics with both; they deliver a large
rachis and predominantly downy vanes. Filoplumes

The Strike Of Foodservice Workers At Unc Chapel Hill
The 1969 strike of foodservice workers at UNC Chapel Hill was a labor dispute involving lunch
ladies, less than 20 women of color, working in a college cafeteria serving the large student
population. This unlikely group of women and their labor dispute had a much more important effect
on the larger perspective of not only work conditions and wages for women and African Americans,
but the macro level of civil rights on college campuses in the south during the civil rights movement.
The efforts of the women and Black Student Movement to fight for fair pay, We will also look at the
impact this labor dispute had for not only the college campus but also the entire state of North
Carolina and the nation at large. Not only geographically, we will also examine the effect this
foodservice strike has had on the fast food industry presently and labor relations for the Fight for 15
movement. The Lenoir Dining Hall at UNC Chapel Hill served food to some 1700 students and
faculty a day. The lunch ladies managing the cafeteria worked through long hours, short wages and
degrading work conditions. Food service was tough enough for college lunch ladies because students
and faculty did not typically regard the non faculty employees with much respect or recognition. This
lack of respect or recognition was amplified by high racial tensions of the civil rights era and the
reality that most non faculty employees were African American.
Not only were the work conditions underappreciated by the

What Are Hamstring Strains Have Been One Of The Most...
Hamstring strains have been one of the most common injuries around the world. Unfortunately, there
has been a limited amount of success reducing the rate of this injury (Schmit, 2012). Although many
researchers and doctors have studied the cause of hamstring strains, there are still many theories as to
why they occur. One theory includes that there is an imbalance between the medial and lateral
hamstring muscle that leads to hamstring muscle fatigue (Prentice, 2015). Hamstring strains are
painful and prevalent in different types of activities. Most commonly these strains can be found in
athletes that engage in running, skating, jumping sliding, kicking, and quick/fast motions (Valle,
2015). A hamstring is comprised of a group of three muscles that can be found along the back of the
thigh. These muscles allow the range of motion at the knee, which gives the ability to bend the leg.
The three hamstring muscles include semitendinosus, semimbranosus, and biceps femoris. The
hamstrings work concentrically to flex the knee, extend the hip, and rotate the tibia (Prentice, 2015).
These muscles begin at the ischial tuberosity, which is at the bottom of the pelvis. The muscles meet at
the knee joint and end at the lower leg, where they are joined together through connective tissue that
attach the tendons to the bones like double sided tape. The hamstring muscle groups work to help
extend the leg back and provide motion at the knee. Due to the crossing

Pressure vs. Number of Particles Lab Report
Introduction: The experiment deals with many different parts and one of them is gas, a substance that
moves freel through the air and their particles are stread farther away from each other when compared
to the other states of matter. The difference between the states of matter are how close the particles are
to each other. The experiment was completed to find how pressure affects the number of particles.
Pressure, which is the force exerted on an object by physical contact, was used to apply force into the

E. Coli And Its Effects On The United States
E.coli outbreaks have steadily grown over the last few decades. An expansion in big farming has led to
E. coli not only being found in meat, but vegetation as well, due to waste runoff. This has increased
our need for adequate antibiotics that can fight bacteria, like E. coli. The best way to pinpoint which
antibiotics work is by measuring their ability to create antimicrobial agents or zones of inhibition.
When a paper disc that has been saturated in an antibiotic is inserted in a solution of E.coli and
medium, the zone of inhibition will be noted as the clear ring that forms around the disk. The
antibiotics efficacy is then determined by measuring each disk zone of inhibition, and comparing these
measurements to the zone measurements of an untreated specimen. If an antibiotic is to be deemed
sufficient for treating E. coli it should show a zone of inhibition that is at least double the size of the
untreated specimen.
On August 19th, 2015 this experiment was performed, by 6 separate lab groups. The experiment began
by measuring 1 Ml of E. coli into a pipette and pump, then placing the bacteria into a culture medium.
The E. coli and medium were then swirled together for a period of 15 minutes, until completely
mixed. This mixture was then poured into a petri dish and allowed to solidify for 45 minutes. After the
45 minute solidification time, 5 small paper disks were inserted into the dish. 4 of the disk contained
treatments of antibiotic and 1 was left untreated. The

The Europeans Interpretation Of Civilization
The arrival of Europeans in the New World introduced a way of life that was unfamiliar to the Native
peoples. The Europeans interpretation of civilization was the opposite of the Indians. Europeans
regarded themselves as the superior beings. In a document, a Micmac composed a scathing response
to French criticism of Indian civilization. The Micmac testified, Though sayest of us also that we are
the most miserable and most unhappy of all men, living without religion, without manners, without
honour, without social order, and, in a word, without any rules [...] We consider ourselves nevertheless
much happier than thou in this, that we are very content with the little we have, and believe also once
for all, I pray, that though Armes 3 deceivest thyself greatly if though thinkst to persuade us that thy
country is better than ours (Calloway 50 51). This was the general consensus of Europeans at that
time, who believed that happiness was defined by power and materialistic goods. The Micmac speaker
affirms that although they are void of luxuries, they rebuffed the notion that they were inferior. A
Mowhawk named Joseph Brant scrutinized and rejected the colonists ways of living. In his reply, he
quips, But for what are many of your prisoners confined? For debt! Astonishing! And will you ever
call the Indian nations cruel? [...] Cease then, while these practices continue among you, to call
yourself Christians, let you publish to the world your hypocrisy (Calloway 180).

The Whale Rider By Niki Caro
The Whale Rider by Niki Caro is a film about a young girl, Paikea s journey to acceptance from her

conflicts explored throughout this film is the conflict between Nanny Flowers and Koro, Paikea s
grandparents. Conflict is an important issue in this film because it causes rupture among an already
fractured family.
The film Whale Rider is based around a family living on the East Coast of New Zealand, in

Nanny Flowers didn t like this gesture and after Koro had said goodbye made him hold her. Here, hold

Koro s rejection too Paikea the conflict between these two characters ignited. Nanny Flowers thought
this was wrong and stood by Paikea for she was only an innocent child and Koro was being a blinded
man. He was looking for something that didn t exist, a prophet, a new leader who was going to lead
their family to great heights. During this scene, Niki Caro used some clever camera movement and
shot compositions to enhance the message she was trying to get across. When we see Koro saying
goodbye to Pai s brother the shot we see is from behind a glass wall, behind Nanny Flowers shoulders.
This was effective because the shot was made out to be from Nanny Flowers perspective. Caro also
used the wall as a barrier showing that there is separation between the characters. This was clever of
Caro because this event was the beginning of the conflict between Nanny Flowers and Koro.
Throughout the film the conflict between these characters builds until the very end of the film when,
the conflict reaches its peak. At the end of the film one of the last events is helping a whole pod of
beached whales, back into the sea. After a long night s struggle Paikea gets onto the biggest

he created a new constitution of law that declared majority rule and South Africa became racially
united. Every race was granted their human rights in South Africa thanks to the hard work and
struggles of Nelson Mandela, and his work was recognized nationally. Nelson Mandela later worked
on economic improvement within South Africa and focused on issues such as poverty and AIDS.
Racial segregation and discrimination was also occurring in other parts of the world besides South
Africa. Martin Luther King Jr. was a colored pastor from Montgomery, Alabama who shared a similar
vision as Nelson Mandela. Martin Luther King Jr. had a vision that he could live in a world where race
did not affect how others treated you and or how you lived your life. The two most significant political
changes made by Martin Luther King Jr. were the abolishment of racial segregation and the granting
of civil rights and equality for Negroes.
Martin Luther King Jr. started a revolution in the 1950 s and 1960 s. Martin Luther King Jr. believed
in change. He wanted to put an end to the Jim Crow laws which gave Negroes economic, educational,
and social disadvantages. These laws made white people more superior than the blacks. Martin Luther
King Jr. s voice was heard when he chose to boycott these laws after a woman by the name of Rosa
Parks was arrested because she

The Importance Of Bilingual In Deaf Culture
My feeling was a bit surprised and complicated when I first hear that deaf parents want to conceive a
deaf baby. Because if I have not taken any classes about deaf culture or prior to reading Candy and
Sharon s story, I would normally think it is unfair to the children to be born with disabilities,
especially when the parents are already deaf who sure know the difficulties and obstacles that a deaf
child will have to experience in the future. What if the child grew up and blamed the parents to make
the decision for him depended on personal preferences and inflicting hardship on him? Because even
though the deaf community exists, the majority of the population is living in the hearing world. There
is still some inconvenience for the deaf people today. However, after I took CSD courses and read the
article, I have changed my viewpoint about deafness. Now I start to understand more ... Show more

Deaf people are not limited by hearing loss and are able to achieve what the hearing people can
achieve. Some deaf people are proud of being deaf not from the medical perspective, but from the
linguistic perspective. Since ASL is capable of supporting the highest levels of abstract mind to mind
communication, it is considered to be a rich language. From the linguistic point, the deaf people are
viewed as bilingual in ASL and English. Unlike others, their first language is ASL instead of English.
There are so many deaf people out there that are teachers, writers, lawyers, doctors, etc. Sharon and
Candy, the deaf couples who want their children to be deaf in the article A World of Their Own by
Liza Mundy, all performed well academically and are graduates from universities. They see how
successful deaf people can be as well as the capabilities of their deaf child. Parents always want to
give the best to their children. If Candy and Sharon searched around and worked so hard to get a deaf
baby, I am sure that this is what they think the best for that

The Challenges Of Tour Guides In The Tourism And...
The Tourism and Hospitality Industry is one of the largest industries in the country. This industry is
one of the key front line players which contributes greatly to the growth of the economy of a country.
They are the vital source of income for both government and private sectors. People often mistaken
that the duty of the profession in the tourism and hospitality to be somewhat similar, that is to serve
clients but in fact, there is actually a vast difference between the roles of a tour guide, travel tour
manager and travel agency manager.
According to Sokanu (2017), tour guides are individuals who work in the travel industry, giving
guided tours to groups of visitors and typically the residents of the region in which they give tours.
Tour guides have the ability to transform the tourists visits from a tour to a life long experience
through the delivery of knowledge and interpretations of the attractions and culture at the destinations
with their communication and service skills. A tour guide s duties highly depend on their employer
and location. The three prime areas of specialization in the guiding industry are corporate ... Show

One of the challenges that these travel agency managers face is that there is a greater traveler
independence (Murison, 2015). In certain parts of the worlds, travelers are keen to explore and travel
without the need of having everything arranged for them anymore. These travelers know what they
want and how to obtain it getting rid of the need for travel agencies. Additionally, the increasing
transparency of prices is another problem that travel agency managers face (Murison, 2015). Travelers
are not naïve when it comes to the pricing of their trip. With all the online services available, travelers
can check and compare prices of the best deals that suit their needs and their

Causes And Differences Of Medieval Society In Modern Society
Modern society is inarguably different from medieval communities, quite frankly it would be
terrifying if they were exactly the same. Contemporary culture, in general, is not wholeheartedly
focused on the journey to salvation/ religious causes as was more common in medieval communities.
Communication, technology and education have broadened the scope of human activity and
opportunities. As far as declining religion and social hierarchy, it remains debatable whether it is a
cause or effect of modern technology. Though because humans are creatures of habit and conservative
as far as change, religious tradition and teachings remain embedded in many communities. Despite
similarities based on tradition and inherited values, modern society differs in driving forces and
religious prevalence due to a developed and educated environment.
One of the most obvious differences between the two time periods is the presence of a social
hierarchy. Though it would be naive to say that modern society flourishes with equality and
opportunity for all, equality is at least somewhat attempted by many societies. Medieval communities
justified opportunity difference with what they called the feudal system. This dictated education and
position in regard to other people. Most medieval people believed that God dictated a person position
in society and that is where they were meant to stay, as opposed to the modern idea of moving up
based on merit (or connections). As far as modern people, there is

Essay on Padres and Indians
One of the things which largely go unrecognized is how vital the missions were to the military in
California in the 19th century. Since the military in California received little to no support during the
Mexican revolution against Spain, and suffered more after Mexico won its independence from Spain
in 1821. In particular, Mission San Jose was expected to furnish food to the military presidios as a way
of preventing famines. In fact this had been established in the 1770 s with the Reglamento,
It is also important to note that in Spanish California at this time, the dominant economic system was
based on that of bartering. Pesos were far more an abstract economic factor for both the missionaries
as well as the soldiers. Since pesos would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But for the present the mission offers 200 pesos, the only ones it has and 300 fanegas of wheat for
trade with the Russian ship if it enters, etc., all for the sole purpose of helping the troops.
This letter from Duran was in response to an earlier circular (a letter which was sent to all missions)
from Fr. Sarría in which he stated:
You know the state of the nation and the misery an suffering of the monarchy on account of the war. I
know it is not good to dispossess the neophytes but it is essential for the missions to contribute goods
and other necessities for the maintenance of the troops and their families as we did last yeafr and
which we must do again. It is our patriotic duty.
Duran s response to Sarría is interesting on two levels. The first level is his mention of trade with the
Russian ships. One of the primary roles for colonizing Alta California (and utilizing the evangelizing
fervor of the Franciscan missionaries for this was to create a bulwark against foreign incursions,
primarily of the Russians, though later the English and the Americans would enter into the mix. This
was accomplished easily enough during the early days of the missions existence when they were
struggling just to survive. In the beginning, the missions had nothing which the commercial interest
(which was the driving force of an empire) would be interested in, since at that time the missions were
barely producing enough to support themselves, let alone produce surplus for sale. This

How Did Alexander The Great Impact Greek Culture
The Impact of Greek culture during the Hellenistic period. The definition of Hellenistic is imitating
Greece. The Hellenistic Period is known as the Time after Alexander the great spread Greek culture to
the eastern region and blended with the native culture. The Name Alexander the great is derived from
the great amount of accomplishments and military dominance that he displayed during his life.
However, some historians describe him as more of a ruthless warlord. Those who see Alexander as
aspiring autocratic monarchy present a very different portrait of him as a ruthless Machiavellian. One
has titled his biography Alexander the Great Failure. (Spielvogel 94) Alexander s Father was king
Phillip II who ruled Macedonia and after being a prisoner in Thebes developed an understanding and
admiration for Greek military and tactics. Once he was able to return to Macedonia he quickly
developed a standing army from the strongest men his country had to offer. It was with this powerful
army that he was able to conquer Greece and take control of the entire Greek peninsula. Once
Alexander was 20 his father was assassinated and he had to quickly take power and establish, he did
this by conquering the city of Thebes where a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Fortune In Dante s Inferno
The concept of fortune, as developed in the poem Inferno, is that fortune is seen as a goddess who is
malicious in that she is able to alter a person s circumstance for better or for worse. According to the
poem, good fortune is the one that is adverse and has the ability to teach lessons effectively. Dante s
attitude towards wealth makes him have strong original ideas about how fortune collates with human
affairs. Fortune is a force that is very powerful in both philosophies as well as literature. Ignoring one
s status on earth and trusting in a being is considered certain according to the poem, inferno. Dante s
fortune is a being that distributes the earth s resources just like God would do and is immune to critics

In Canto IIV, Plutus, a raging god of wealth blocks Dante from entering the fourth circle. With the
intervention of Virgil, they are able to pass through. In the circle, Virgil explains to Dante that the one
with the ability to rule who is to be rich and who is to be poor is only fortune. Human beings are
portrayed as people who waste their lives while fighting for wealth and they end blaming fortune
instead of glorifying her (Jaffe, Valerie and Selens 14). It seems that fortune is not bothered by
criticisms from the humans, but instead she enjoys doing what she does best. Dante has borrowed
several characters to be able to explain the role of fortune in Canto IIV. Such include hoarders who he
describes as people who accumulate wealth for themselves. Poetically, he describes them as people
with no hairs covering their heads. In religion, these people are the cardinals and the pope. He also
describes the wasters as those people who spend or misuse all the wealth that they have. Poetically, he
describes them as those who have risen from the tombs with their hairs cut short.
Fate can largely affect the conscious mind. Some fates can be unpleasurable and very painful for the
human mind to comprehend. Human beings reactions are different in this case and often some end up
living their lives and doing things unconsciously. Others will repress those bad memories by trying to
live in the unconscious world. The outcome of this repression is often very different and according to
Freud, the cause of repression is always connected to the conscious mind (Freud

Meaning Of Symbolic Interactionism
When an interaction of this kind appears,It is safe to say that we have a language and a meaning. A
symbol is something which stays for something else, for example words refers to objects.
(Giddens,p22) However,in order such an interaction to occur, all the participants must understand the
meanings of the symbols used by them altogether. Just as like in a theatre hall, dramaturgical
perspective interprets a social encounter as a stage and the social participants as actors and
audience. The actor takes on a certain role in front of an observing audience. The roles indicates the
actors` social positions, but also marks audience`s expectations towards him/her. The possession of
meaning according to Mead is a privilege accessible only to advanced animals such as the human
beings.Meaning is a prerequisite for action in this case.In other words, meaning and action are
interrelated in an interaction as meaning may be before action, but the latter confirms for the initiated
meaning. The act of adjustive response of the second organism, gives to the gesture of the first ... the
meaning which it has. (Mead p.71) Thus can me implied that meaning and action are the essentials for
a symbolic interaction. I and me constitute the essential mechanism for an individual to act. However
in terms of function, they have a clearly opposite one. Me is that part of a person, which alarms for how
this person should react,in this sense it is his/her

pattern or rhyme within the poems. The major difference between the poems structure is the use of end
stop and enjambment within the poems. Frost s poem uses both enjambment and end stop throughout
the poem. For example, The sun and moon get crossed, but they never touch,
Nor strike out fire from each other nor crash out loud. (5 6). Whitman s poem uses mostly

The Melting Pot That It Is Made Up Of Many Types Of People...
American being the melting pot that it is, is made up of many different types of people that have
different political priorities. During an election year, these priorities are discussed even more often and
more heatedly. Newscasters light this debate fire daily, as do politicians. Some of these issues are
absolutely essential to the American political life and should be discussed and evaluated in order to
make America great. Even when parties are on opposite sides of an issue, they can agree that priorities
need to be established and evaluated (Gallup, 2016). In evaluating today s society both economic and
social issues top the list of priorities. Economic issues top the list of priorities for most American.
Unemployment is a word that Americans hear on a daily basis. Currently the 62.7% of adults who are
able to work are currently working and three major factors are driving the decrease in workers. Due to
the large number of baby boomers who are retiring, which is healthy and understandable, we have a
decline in the number of adults who work. Another positive reason is due to a larger number of college
students and graduate students. The cause that is worrisome is the people who have given up on
finding work. The Wall Street Journal estimates that about 2.6 million of the roughly 92 million
American adults who don t work want a job but aren t looking for one (CNN, 2016). Politicians and
citizens alike recognize this as a political concern. Foreign trade is

More Than A Game By John Swales
More Than A Game
Nearly every American knows the popular song, Take Me Out to the Ball Game. It has commemorated
the national sport baseball for many years, drawing fans from coast to coast creating a unique

There are countless numbers of communities similar to the baseball community that operate in unique

The Creator Of Star Wars
In the George Lucas film, the creator of Star Wars, has very strong Hindu beliefs. Similar to Hinduism
affecting our lives, so has it affected his to an extent, which can also be seen by the fact that he has
incorporated Hindu themes throughout the Star Wars film. This essay will explain, through different
examples, the way Lucas has pushed Hinduism into this movie. In the movie, The Empire Strikes
Back, it seems to portray some type of Hinduism in the first parts. Moreover, In the scene when Luke
Skywalker goes to find Yoda. As he arrives, Skywalker finds himself in a swamp or forest, trying to
find an old and wise master Yoda to learn the ways of the force. Later in that scene Luke gets a vision
that his friends are in great danger. Luke then prepares to departure to go save his friends. Yoda
persuades him not to go by saying that he must finish his training first because it is more important.
This specifies on the Hindu concept of job over blood. The duty over blood lesson can be looked as
examples in readings found in the Bhagavad Gita, where Krishna tells Arjuna to battle his cousin in
spite of his emotions for them, it is his job to do so. Towards the end of the training session, as Luke
begins to leave, Ben Kenobi tells Luke to never give into anger and hatred. This lesson is also taught
by Gandhi, which is explained in Hinduism.
Aside from the training sessions, there are several parts of Star Wars that portray examples of
Hinduism. An example of this would be

Joy Is Not Just Happiness
In our everyday lives, joy has become synonymous with both happiness and pleasure. We have
diminished the meaning of the word by using it in place of the more appropriate terms in order to
provide emphasis. C.S. Lewis takes more literal definition of joy, and so assigns it more significance
in his mind, separating it from any other emotion. Though he acknowledges that oftentimes happiness
and pleasure occur simultaneously with joy, they are not the root cause, nor are they the same
emotion. I think the best distinction Lewis makes between happiness and pleasure is when he states
Joy... must have the stab, the pang, the inconsolable longing (Lewis 72). This look into the root of joy
demonstrates that joy is not just happiness, it is more complex and not always a fully positive emotion.
There can be sadness and longing behind the joy, but it does not diminish the great properties of joy.
Because joy is so great it is often sought, but as Lewis says it is never a possession, always a desire for
something longer ago or further away or still about to be (Lewis 78). The fleeting nature of joy only
adds to the intrigue, as it often comes at the most unexpected times. Lewis recognizes this, as he titled
the book Surprised by Joy. Lewis also thinks that one s definition of joy is constantly changing with
our experiences. As he learned more about some subject, one that used to bring him joy to study, he
realizes that this was something quite different from the original Joy.

Bhopal Plant Responsible For The Production Of Carbaryl
The Bhopal Plant
As previously stated, the Bhopal plant was responsible for the production of Carbaryl, otherwise
known as Sevin which was released under the brand name Eveready. The plant itself aided Bhopal
somewhat with attracting new people with the promise of jobs and fixing the inconsistent electricity
supplied to the city. While the plant was initially very profitable, eventually the market changed,
leaving the factory making a loss every year. The plant eventually stopped producing Sevin due to a
large backlog of Methyl Isocyanate and little demand in the market for it[1]. Many of the safety
features could have reduced the severity, or completely stopped the Bhopal Disaster altogether.
However, with none of these active, very little stopped the Methyl Isocyanate cloud from descending
upon Bhopal. In addition staff size was reduced below recommended levels, leaving very few workers
on shifts with only a single supervisor[1]. Available positions would now be a less attractive prospect
to workers, leading workers with fewer skills than previously to take up positions in the plant. Over 50
tons of Methyl Isocyanate in liquid form was stored in two tanks beneath the plants (though some
workers claim that a 3rd reserve tank was in use too), and were kept there for several months.
This makes it exceedingly likely that much of the maintenance and security features were turned off to
prevent losing money every year. The parent company likely ignored many safety suggestions

  • 2. Our Responsibility to Enlightenment Immanuel Kant, a well known philosopher and writer, once said in his essay An Answer to the Question: What is Enlightenment?, Nothing is required for this enlightenment, however, except freedom; and the freedom to question is the least harmful of all, namely, the freedom to use reason publicly in all matters. But on all sides I hear: Do not argue! The officer says, Do not argue, drill! The tax man says, Do not argue, pay! The pastor says, Do not argue, believe! Throughout his essay, and many other works, there is a call to throw off the shackles of blind acceptance and come into a new light of reason and continuous questioning and analysis. This is the basis for modern science; what we cannot explain, we explore, and even that which we are certain of is subject to discussion, debate, and open criticism. In our culture there has been a tacit compliance to allow knowledge and debate fall to the back burners, behind what experts say and what we read in the newspaper or hear on the television. There has been an unspoken agreement with the media, the churches, the government, and even college institutions saying: We don t care to learn or understand. Just tell us what we need to know to survive, and here s what money we have (plus much that we don t) for you to tell us these things. I would respectfully, but vehemently disagree with this status quo. As I will continue to emphasize, reason, debate, and discussion are the paths to knowledge and change that we ... • 3. Film Analysis Of The Art Film The Wedding Banquet Art Film: The Wedding Banquet The wedding banquet is a film which is based around the life of a Chinese born man Wai Tung Gao, a very successful property developer in New York. Wai Tung hides the fact that he is a homosexual from his parents who live in China because it is seen as a dishonourable characteristic to have. He must find himself a fake wife to trick his parents into believing that he is a straight man who they can be proud of, he eventually chooses one of his tenants called Wei Wei after trying to find the perfect wife through applications and changes who she is in order to impress his parents, Wai Tung must do this whilst at the same time trying to maintain his relationship with his boyfriend, Simon. The father of Wai Tung knows about the relationship between his son and Simon, this scene can be found at 1:35:28 to 1:36:58 of the wedding banquet. The wedding banquet aims to show how perception of sexual orientation can effect different people of different nationalities and how society looks at people of a different sexual orientation. The scene which holds a lot of power in The Wedding Banquet is the scene in which Mr. Gao and Simon are speaking to each other overlooking some kind of a pier. It is in this part of the film that Simon realises that Mr. Gao can speak English which is a huge surprise for Simon as he had spent some of the film trying to speak Chinese to Wai Tung s parents and trying to be polite to them most likely in hopes that they would ... • 4. The Lord Of The Flies And The Cold War Essay The primary conflict in The Lord of the Flies is a portrayal of the strife between democracy and communism during the Cold War. The Cold War was the result of World War Two, where both America and Russia wanted to gain influence in the recently ravaged Europe and beyond. America wanted to continue to globalize and create a capitalist world of free trade, while the Soviets wanted to spread their influence by establishing communistic proxy states, and form a barrier between themselves and the capitalistic west. Although the Cold War may have started in Europe, it spread across the world, into Asia, South and Central America, and the Middle East. The ideologies of the two emerging superpowers conflicted in many ways, especially politically and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. The Greatest Physical Of Sports People love to watch, play, and enjoy sports or cheering for teams. In the majority of sports that are physical and require a lot of contact that could potentially cause injuries. The most physical of sports such as hockey, soccer, football, and boxing can make the people who care about them worried for their health. Some people don t understand that the helmet the players wear don t always prevent the athletes from getting concussions or the fracture of your skull. You can get a concussion by having your brain constantly hit your skull. The NFL should take more necessary precautions every time a player suffers from damage. There is are diseases called CTE which means chronic traumatic encephalopathy players get playing that turn into medical bills need to be paid for by the NFL because players often are pressured to ignore the symptoms of a concussion and go back out to play. Players should be aware of the consequences and risk that can occur when they make these decisions. I believe that they should study about what can actually happen to their health so that they can prevent getting concussions and acknowledge the negative effects. These days most athletes worry about how big their pay checks going to be than actually caring what s on the scoreboard. A good of players know that if they aren t actually playing the game then they are not getting paid. If they always keep this concept in their heads than most players will most likely not tell the coach that they may being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Relationship Between Modernity and the First World War The First World War, also known as the Great War of 1914 1918, is not an event that manifested overnight; it was the result of ever growing tension among European nations. This conflict was brought about by factors such as, nationalism, militarism, and the Alliance system. An upheaval such as the First World War was witness to the emergence of the glorification of war, struggle, despair, destruction and immense loss of life. The First World War brought about a defining moment in the history of the modern consciousness. The modern world was born anew with a self conscious awareness of plight and modern society. The effect the war had on both the political and economic sector was so significant that the First World War marks the commencement of the modern era. Socialist thought emerged due to revolutions in Russia, and imperialism lost its appeal. A desire to avoid further conflict also arose at the culmination of the First World War, and individuals hoped that this war would be the war to end all wars, which encouraged many nations to resolve disputes with one another. The societal structure of every European nation that participated in the war changed irreversibly. The war not only facilitated change, it played a powerful role in molding its quality and strength. This view of the war suggests its pivotal role in directing the destinies of the contemporary world it is in this sense that the war was possibly a turning point. The class system in Britain was changed and lower class consciousness grew. New nations were formed in Eastern Europe, and a new identity was to be formed in Germany, an identity without imperialistic values and goals. Though, not only did European nations change, so to did warfare. The advancements of the industrial age were applied to weapons and eventually to tactics as well, changing the face of warfare perpetually. The year 1914 signaled the conclusion of a rather peaceful century on the European continent, with unparalleled invention and new scientific developments. Moreover, despite the overall rise in tolerance toward gays since the 1980s, many Americans remain highly critical of homosexuals and religious belief is a major factor in these attitudes. A 55% majority believes it is a sin to engage in homosexual behavior, and that view is much more prevalent among those who have a high level of religious commitment (76%). About half of all Americans have an unfavorable opinion of gay men (50%) and lesbians (48%), but highly religious people are much more likely to hold negative views. Religiosity is clearly a ... • 11. Medical Detoxification In Obama Care There has been an expectation of society that substance abuse treatment should eliminate alcohol and illicit drug use while improving individual health and social functioning as to reduce the public safety threat. The Affordable Care Act of 2010 also known as Obama Care was created with intentions of expanding the availability of health insurance. In 2011 the President s National Drug Control Strategy requested investments in screening, intervention and referral to treatment, and expanded the Access to Recovery voucher program. These initiatives are a start towards total care for alcohol and substance abuse patients, however from our study we have found that treatment may be best when considered as a long term possibly life resource for these individuals to become successfully sober and healthy. One of the initial processes of treatment includes that of medical detoxification. Detoxification, is defined at the period of time a client is withdrawing from AOD (141). This detox is necessary in regards to drugs, such as CNS depressants, because of their dangerous withdrawal symptoms (21). • 13. The Effect of Task Complexity on the Relation Between... 1. Introduction In this study I want to look at the effect of task complexity on the relationship between team based incentives and performance. I will thus try to find whether task complexity is a moderating variable in the relation between incentives and performance and specifically try to find whether this effect differs for individual incentives and team incentives. When looking at incentive contracts in management accounting literature, usually theories from the field of economics and psychology are combined. In some circumstances these theories can lead to quite opposing predictions of the effect of incentives on performance. In general incentive contracts are a decision influencing control tool used to make sure that people s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (2000) find that only in about 50 percent of the experiments they examined, financial performance led to improvements in productivity. This thus means that the relationship between incentives and performance may be dependent on the situational circumstances and they do not work in every environment. Specifically in their review of experiments Bonner et al. (2000) find that when the complexity of the task increases (relative to the skill of the participants), the likelihood of observing a positive effect of incentives on performance decrease. Bailey and Fessler (2011) also find that monetary incentives are more effective when the task is less complex. On the other hand in a review of empirical studies on financial incentives and performance Jenkins et al. (1999) find that financial incentives are generally related to output quantity but not to quality. Furthermore, they find task type is independent of the relation between financial incentives and performance. If the performance on a complex task is more difficult to measure, the agent s effort thus has less influence on the performance measure (more noise, less sensitivity) and the measure is less effective. • 17. What Are Hamstring Strains Have Been One Of The Most... Hamstring strains have been one of the most common injuries around the world. Unfortunately, there has been a limited amount of success reducing the rate of this injury (Schmit, 2012). Although many researchers and doctors have studied the cause of hamstring strains, there are still many theories as to why they occur. One theory includes that there is an imbalance between the medial and lateral hamstring muscle that leads to hamstring muscle fatigue (Prentice, 2015). Hamstring strains are painful and prevalent in different types of activities. Most commonly these strains can be found in athletes that engage in running, skating, jumping sliding, kicking, and quick/fast motions (Valle, 2015). A hamstring is comprised of a group of three muscles that can be found along the back of the thigh. These muscles allow the range of motion at the knee, which gives the ability to bend the leg. The three hamstring muscles include semitendinosus, semimbranosus, and biceps femoris. The hamstrings work concentrically to flex the knee, extend the hip, and rotate the tibia (Prentice, 2015). These muscles begin at the ischial tuberosity, which is at the bottom of the pelvis. The muscles meet at the knee joint and end at the lower leg, where they are joined together through connective tissue that attach the tendons to the bones like double sided tape. The hamstring muscle groups work to help extend the leg back and provide motion at the knee. Due to the crossing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. E. Coli And Its Effects On The United States E.coli outbreaks have steadily grown over the last few decades. An expansion in big farming has led to E. coli not only being found in meat, but vegetation as well, due to waste runoff. This has increased our need for adequate antibiotics that can fight bacteria, like E. coli. The best way to pinpoint which antibiotics work is by measuring their ability to create antimicrobial agents or zones of inhibition. When a paper disc that has been saturated in an antibiotic is inserted in a solution of E.coli and medium, the zone of inhibition will be noted as the clear ring that forms around the disk. The antibiotics efficacy is then determined by measuring each disk zone of inhibition, and comparing these measurements to the zone measurements of an untreated specimen. If an antibiotic is to be deemed sufficient for treating E. coli it should show a zone of inhibition that is at least double the size of the untreated specimen. On August 19th, 2015 this experiment was performed, by 6 separate lab groups. The experiment began by measuring 1 Ml of E. coli into a pipette and pump, then placing the bacteria into a culture medium. The E. coli and medium were then swirled together for a period of 15 minutes, until completely mixed. This mixture was then poured into a petri dish and allowed to solidify for 45 minutes. The Europeans interpretation of civilization was the opposite of the Indians. Europeans regarded themselves as the superior beings. The Micmac testified, Though sayest of us also that we are the most miserable and most unhappy of all men, living without religion, without manners, without honour, without social order, and, in a word, without any rules [...] We consider ourselves nevertheless much happier than thou in this, that we are very content with the little we have, and believe also once for all, I pray, that though Armes 3 deceivest thyself greatly if though thinkst to persuade us that thy country is better than ours (Calloway 50 51). This was the general consensus of Europeans at that time, who believed that happiness was defined by power and materialistic goods. The Micmac speaker affirms that although they are void of luxuries, they rebuffed the notion that they were inferior. Communication, technology and education have broadened the scope of human activity and opportunities. Poetically, he describes them as people with no hairs covering their heads. In religion, these people are the cardinals and the pope. He also describes the wasters as those people who spend or misuse all the wealth that they have. Poetically, he describes them as those who have risen from the tombs with their hairs cut short. Fate can largely affect the conscious mind. Some fates can be unpleasurable and very painful for the human mind to comprehend. Human beings reactions are different in this case and often some end up living their lives and doing things unconsciously. Others will repress those bad memories by trying to live in the unconscious world. The outcome of this repression is often very different and according to Freud, the cause of repression is always connected to the conscious mind (Freud ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Meaning Of Symbolic Interactionism When an interaction of this kind appears,It is safe to say that we have a language and a meaning. A symbol is something which stays for something else, for example words refers to objects. (Giddens,p22) However,in order such an interaction to occur, all the participants must understand the meanings of the symbols used by them altogether. Just as like in a theatre hall, dramaturgical perspective interprets a social encounter as a stage and the social participants as actors and audience. The actor takes on a certain role in front of an observing audience. The roles indicates the actors` social positions, but also marks audience`s expectations towards him/her. The possession of meaning according to Mead is a privilege accessible only to advanced animals such as the human beings.Meaning is a prerequisite for action in this case.In other words, meaning and action are interrelated in an interaction as meaning may be before action, but the latter confirms for the initiated meaning. The act of adjustive response of the second organism, gives to the gesture of the first ... the meaning which it has. (Mead p.71) Thus can me implied that meaning and action are the essentials for a symbolic interaction. I and me constitute the essential mechanism for an individual to act. However in terms of function, they have a clearly opposite one. Me is that part of a person, which alarms for how this person should react,in this sense it is his/her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When I Heard The Learn D Astronomer Analysis The poems Oh Looking up by Chance at the Constellations by Robert Frost and When I heard the Learn d Astronomer by Walt Whitman have many similarities and differences in their themes and structures. • 33. The Melting Pot That It Is Made Up Of Many Types Of People... American being the melting pot that it is, is made up of many different types of people that have different political priorities. During an election year, these priorities are discussed even more often and more heatedly. Newscasters light this debate fire daily, as do politicians. Some of these issues are absolutely essential to the American political life and should be discussed and evaluated in order to make America great. Even when parties are on opposite sides of an issue, they can agree that priorities need to be established and evaluated (Gallup, 2016). In evaluating today s society both economic and social issues top the list of priorities. Economic issues top the list of priorities for most American. Unemployment is a word that Americans hear on a daily basis. Currently the 62.7% of adults who are able to work are currently working and three major factors are driving the decrease in workers. Due to the large number of baby boomers who are retiring, which is healthy and understandable, we have a decline in the number of adults who work. Another positive reason is due to a larger number of college students and graduate students. The cause that is worrisome is the people who have given up on finding work. The Wall Street Journal estimates that about 2.6 million of the roughly 92 million American adults who don t work want a job but aren t looking for one (CNN, 2016). Politicians and citizens alike recognize this as a political concern. Foreign trade is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. More Than A Game By John Swales More Than A Game Nearly every American knows the popular song, Take Me Out to the Ball Game. It has commemorated the national sport baseball for many years, drawing fans from coast to coast creating a unique community that is truly American. However this song fails to portray the true nature of the sport. If we don t win, yes it is a shame, but it s not just about one, two, three strikes and you re out, it s about learning to play the game; and not just the game of baseball but the game of life. There are countless numbers of communities similar to the baseball community that operate in unique ways, yet meet the many of the same criteria. According to linguist, John Swales theory on discourse communities, there are common goals, participatory mechanisms, information exchange, community specific genres, a highly specialized terminology and a high general level of expertise. analyze quote more Being a freshman on the Boise State University softball I am aware of the team being an example of a discourse community with it s own unique traits as defined by Swaels six characteristics. • 36. The Creator Of Star Wars In the George Lucas film, the creator of Star Wars, has very strong Hindu beliefs. Similar to Hinduism affecting our lives, so has it affected his to an extent, which can also be seen by the fact that he has incorporated Hindu themes throughout the Star Wars film. This essay will explain, through different examples, the way Lucas has pushed Hinduism into this movie. In the movie, The Empire Strikes Back, it seems to portray some type of Hinduism in the first parts. Moreover, In the scene when Luke Skywalker goes to find Yoda. As he arrives, Skywalker finds himself in a swamp or forest, trying to find an old and wise master Yoda to learn the ways of the force. Later in that scene Luke gets a vision that his friends are in great danger. Luke then prepares to departure to go save his friends. Yoda persuades him not to go by saying that he must finish his training first because it is more important. This specifies on the Hindu concept of job over blood. The duty over blood lesson can be looked as examples in readings found in the Bhagavad Gita, where Krishna tells Arjuna to battle his cousin in spite of his emotions for them, it is his job to do so. Towards the end of the training session, as Luke begins to leave, Ben Kenobi tells Luke to never give into anger and hatred. This lesson is also taught by Gandhi, which is explained in Hinduism. Aside from the training sessions, there are several parts of Star Wars that portray examples of Hinduism. An example of this would be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Joy Is Not Just Happiness In our everyday lives, joy has become synonymous with both happiness and pleasure. We have diminished the meaning of the word by using it in place of the more appropriate terms in order to provide emphasis. C.S. Lewis takes more literal definition of joy, and so assigns it more significance in his mind, separating it from any other emotion. Though he acknowledges that oftentimes happiness and pleasure occur simultaneously with joy, they are not the root cause, nor are they the same emotion. I think the best distinction Lewis makes between happiness and pleasure is when he states Joy... must have the stab, the pang, the inconsolable longing (Lewis 72). This look into the root of joy demonstrates that joy is not just happiness, it is more complex and not always a fully positive emotion. There can be sadness and longing behind the joy, but it does not diminish the great properties of joy. Because joy is so great it is often sought, but as Lewis says it is never a possession, always a desire for something longer ago or further away or still about to be (Lewis 78). The fleeting nature of joy only adds to the intrigue, as it often comes at the most unexpected times. Lewis recognizes this, as he titled the book Surprised by Joy. Lewis also thinks that one s definition of joy is constantly changing with our experiences. As he learned more about some subject, one that used to bring him joy to study, he realizes that this was something quite different from the original Joy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Bhopal Plant Responsible For The Production Of Carbaryl The Bhopal Plant As previously stated, the Bhopal plant was responsible for the production of Carbaryl, otherwise known as Sevin which was released under the brand name Eveready. The plant itself aided Bhopal somewhat with attracting new people with the promise of jobs and fixing the inconsistent electricity supplied to the city. While the plant was initially very profitable, eventually the market changed, leaving the factory making a loss every year. The plant eventually stopped producing Sevin due to a large backlog of Methyl Isocyanate and little demand in the market for it[1]. Many of the safety features could have reduced the severity, or completely stopped the Bhopal Disaster altogether. However, with none of these active, very little stopped the Methyl Isocyanate cloud from descending upon Bhopal. In addition staff size was reduced below recommended levels, leaving very few workers on shifts with only a single supervisor[1]. Available positions would now be a less attractive prospect to workers, leading workers with fewer skills than previously to take up positions in the plant. Over 50 tons of Methyl Isocyanate in liquid form was stored in two tanks beneath the plants (though some workers claim that a 3rd reserve tank was in use too), and were kept there for several months. This makes it exceedingly likely that much of the maintenance and security features were turned off to prevent losing money every year. The parent company likely ignored many safety suggestions ...
