The Importance Of Journalism And Photography
Many events come and go before many citizens are aware of them. This is where journalism and
photography come to play. Journalism and photography allow for current events in other parts of the
world to be shown to the public for awareness. Some of these events such as the time during the Arab
Spring, where revolutions and protests broke out across the Middle East and North Africa, allowed for
citizens to get an idea of what is going on in that particular part of the country. A world without
journalism cause much of the people to be in the shadow of the unknown. But journalism creates a
chance for political impact. Journalism and photography will bring transparency and awareness to the
public eye leading to protests and a need for change, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Spayd) The work of journalism and photography keeps an important role of collecting information
and sharing it with others. The shared knowledge that photographers and journalists provide allows for
the public to assemble and have a voice.
The public whom are now informed through journalism and photography are often puzzled about the
stories or photos, which causes protest events to develop. In the film Bahrain: Shouting in the Dark
through the media we can see the repressed citizens of Bahrain wanting a change in their government.
The citizens of Bahrain assembled together protesting for a new democratic government. With
journalism reports from Al Jazeera, the world was now hearing their story. Countries around the world
heard the cries of the Bahrain citizens wanting for a change. But with the protest, the Bahrain s
government was quick to suppress the pro democratic activists. An NPR article Bahrain: The
Revolution That Wasn t Kelly McEver discussed, Bahrain s uprising was suppressed in a harsh
crackdown. Thousands of people were rounded up, detained, and sometimes tortured...Several people
died while in custody. (McEver) Protests may lead to better outcomes, but in this instance the outcome
lead to death of many Bahrain s citizens.
With the effects of journalism causing protest events to occur, there is always pressure on government
officials to listen to the public. The Schuster Institute for Investigative

The Influence Of The Middle Ages In Medieval Europe
Were the Middle Ages in Europe characterized more by hope or desire?
The early middle ages in Europe were characterized by conflict. Vikings, Eastern tribes, and Muslim
armies battered the continent from all sides. Most of the emperors were too weak to fight off the
threats after emperor charlemagne. Powerful nobles independently controlled their own land, in which
they usually were servile to their emperor. Feudalism then became the main political, social, and
economic organization of medieval Europe. Serfs worked as primarily farms but could be called to the
war at any time. They didn t have many rights but they could own their own freedom and work on
their own land, but most of them soaked in misery.
Monarchs had limited power and usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They built beautiful cathedrals and churches as a sign of their faith in God. When you visit a medieval
church or cathedral you do not get a feeling of despair. I would personally say that the Middle ages
were characterized by hope. The believed and had a deep feeling for Christ.
Towns grew larger during the middle ages and were centre of craft, commerce and trade. People were
able to grow rich through their business skills. There was always hope that a poor man might be able
to improve his lot in life.Even peasants, who are sometimes thought of as desperately poor and
wretched, could improve their lot in life. some peasants were better off than others, and some even
became wealthy through accumulating land. There were technological innovations. Farming methods
were improved, and there were inventions like spectacles, and the printing press.
The middle ages was a period of nothing but hope. They always looked for the positive in things and
always looked at the bright side of everything. There wasn t a time that they thought bad about a
situation. They always believed that the best would happen because of Christ and I think that is how
they got through what the did and succeeded as they did. They were extremely

The Pros And Consequences Of The Revolutionary War
The CPM had learnt from bitter experience to become smarter, more subtle and sophisticated, more
pragmatic and aware of its limitations and by withdrawing modestly to the background, Too
commented. (7)
From there, it directed and manipulated ambitious and unscrupulous surrogates to create trouble, thus
making it extremely difficult for the security agencies to identify and take proper action against such
communist agents.
When sufficient trouble had been created, even by apparently non communists or anti communists, a
revolutionary situation would be created and the time would become ripe for the revolutionary
struggle once more.
This is another reason why the CPM insisted on keeping its armed struggle ... Show more content on

Because of the contradictions within the ruling reactionary cliques (echoing social upheavals ), the
CPM looked forward to a new revolutionary storm ominous words reminiscent of its June 1968
message which had presaged the outbreak of the second insurgency (1968 1980).
In a more militant editorial broadcast on the 37th anniversary of its post war insurrection on June
1985, the CPM again spoke with a forked tongue, talking peace and calling for war. (11)
The editorial called for continuing the revolutionary war in so called defence of democracy and
freedom against the guns and cannons of a handful of reactionaries supported by the British
imperialists. Its objective was to achieve a new leap forward (Mao s language).
The CPM also called for popular resistance to stop the counter revolutionary war. In other words, the
Government should stop its anti insurgent operations while the CPM was planning for another
revolutionary war and a return to full scale armed conflict (what the Government side would call
Emergency III), hopefully with some popular

Logan: A Stand Out Superhero Movie
In the past few years, the superhero genre has risen into the movie industry. This year alone, six
superhero movies were released. The superhero genre is popular among young adults. While big
studios like Marvel and DC are competing for audiences, many overlook Fox studio, which has been
making critically acclaimed superhero movies like the X Men way before the surge of the genre. The
competition between studios create an oversaturation making it hard for films like Logan to stand, but
it does this and more. Logan not only transcends the superhero genre but also turns the superhero
format on its head. Logan incorporates elements found in the drama, road trip, and western genre and
emphasizes emotion over action. Set in a post apocalyptic future, Logon tells the story of a broken
down Wolverine in his older years, taking care of Charles. Despite his reluctance to engage in any
more conflicts, he is forced to escort Laura, a young girl, to safety. Although Logan may be criticized
for its one dimensional villains and overdone story, director James Mangold, successfully crafted an
excellent film that separates itself from the genre through realistic characters and a simplistic plot.
Most of the time, Logan centralizes on its main characters, so it is understandable that other characters
are not as fleshed out. The villains came off as uninteresting and forgettable. Boyd Holbrook played
Donald Pierce, a generic villain with no reason why he is

Analysis Of Oedipus Rex Bliss
Anita Vacation
English 9 CP
Mr. Myles
May 3, 2010
Oedipus Rex Bliss in Ignorance One of the most memorable and meaningful Socratic quotes applies
well when in context of Sophocles Theban Trilogy. The unexamined life is not worth living, proclaims
Socrates. He could have meant many things by this statement, and in relation to the play, the meaning
is found to be even more complex. Indeed, the situation of Oedipus, king of Thebes, the truth of this
statement is in question. Would Oedipus have been better off if he was blind to the knowledge of his
birthing and the fate that was foretold to someday befall him? Truly though, his life would have been a
far better and easier path had he never known about his true origins. ... Show more content on

Oedipus, up to the point in which he heard the comment in the tavern in Corinth, lived an unexamined
life. To Socrates, he was an unfulfilled man, one who deserved to know more, one who not complete.
However, in a much less metaphysical sense, Oedipus life was complete, in that he had all that he
needed, and was living a happy and fruitful life. As the drama progresses, he finds out more and more,
learning exactly what the implications of his birth was, he suffers the fate for examining his life. So
what Socrates had meant, that the life which was not rich with self exploration and reflection was not
worth living, was indeed different than its application in terms of Oedipus, who s life was
unexamined, yet complete (214). The question arises, what would life have been like, if Oedipus had
not discovered his true origins? If he had stayed in Corinth, would this have ever happened? We find
that indeed, we would have had no story, if not for that lone comment of a drunkard that sparked the
fire of rebellion in the young prince Oedipus.(Chen) He ventured out to Delphi, to pry knowledge of
his background out of it, and to discover if this was indeed the truth, despite the fact that his adopted
parents of Corinth had assured him of it falseness. Oedipus leaves Corinth, fulfilling the Socratic idea
of the unexamined life. However, we must evaluate the eventual consequences of his actions and the

The And The Doctrine Of Salvation
Soteriology or the Doctrine of Salvation is perhaps the grandest and greatest them in Scripture. If we
look at our world it s easy to see man s condition in sin. Mankind is completely helpless when the
message of salvation is ignored. Our world remains shattered and town by the condition of sin, but
God s gracious rescue plan through salvation and Jesus Christ will redeem us all and provide a
solution to man s problems. () This union with Christ is called the magical exchange in which Christ
assumes our debts and we inherit his wealth so that nothing (Horton pg.271) will be able to separate us
from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Ro 8:39) (Horton pg. 323 324) Let s visit the different
layers of salvation.
In our textbook, Horton starts with the blessing of Justification. God justifies the wicked. Justification
is a legal act, wherein God deems the sinner righteous on the basis of Christ s righteousness. Horton
tells us on pg. 280, God justifies the wicked not those who have done their best yet have fallen short,
those who might at least be judged acceptable because of the sincerity, but those who, at the very
moment of being pronounced righteous, are in themselves unrighteous. This means full repentance,
which is defined as such, as a change of mind, or a conversion from sin to God. And the
relinquishment of any practice from the conviction that has offended God. When we accept salvation
we are also testifying to God that we are a changed person from

design that Coco is known for is her little black dress . She wanted a new color that would stand out

suited this dress perfectly and ended up being one of Chanel s top designs (Bio.com). Chanel s

Substantive Due Process Claim Analysis

substantive due process claims is subject to dismissal as such claims are reserved for only the most
egregious official conduct. As Circuit Judge David Ebel stated in affirming a judgment in defendants
favor on a substantive due process claim based upon the murder of a state employee in a state facility,
this claim requires a plaintiff to demonstrate that the State acted in a manner that shock[s] the

Equal Protection claims based upon national origin are subject to close judicial scrutiny and generally
such claims follow equal protection precedent concerning race. A plaintiff must show a discriminatory
intent or purpose for a violation of the Equal protection Clause. A plaintiff cannot just allege a racially
disproportionate impact, but must also allege a discriminatory purpose for that impact. This requires
both a showing that the Defendants treated the plaintiff differently from others similar situated
individuals and that such treatment was the result of intentional discrimination. This standard is
heightened when it is against a supervisor and requires a specific intent to discriminate behind just
being aware of the consequences of their action. Essentially, a plaintiff must show that the supervisor
engaged in the discriminatory action because of the other person s race or national origin and not
merely in spite of their race or

Woman Hollering Creek By Sandra Cisneros
The book Woman Hollering Creek, by Sandra Cisneros highlights many examples of everyday verbal
mythology in the Hispanic culture, literacy and language as sites of conflict build up. The violence in
lack of translation, interpretation by translators, culture betrayal and existence of encoded language
only familiar to insiders are some of the issues that seems not to appeal to the translators.
The sufferings and subordination of both the culture and language by the leading culture is
accompanied by other elements that erupt from unconscious of the book s author to make things work
for its conscious signification. The author says that [The poem is] Pretty in Spanish. But you ll have to
take my word for it. In English it just sounds goofy. (161). this clearly highlights the issue of
untranslatability of the discourse subordinated culture to the dominant languages. The untranslatability
of the Spanish language, the unpronounceability of Spanish and Amerindian name and the invisibility
of silencing of Chicanos are all figured out by Sandra. Spanish operates in the text as a sign of insider
status, specifically the bilingual Spanglish which, according to Castillo s poet narrator, is spoken with
an outrag accent splattered with Chicanismos, one could only assume was done with some intention

inadvertently, evoking disfigurement and disease (55).

Management and Assumptions
Assumption based planning in project management is a post planning method, that helps companies to
deal with uncertainty. It is used to identify the most important assumptions in a company s business
plans, test these assumptions and think of hedging actions and what if scenarios. Conventional
business planning methods operate on the premise that managers can extrapolate future results from a
well understood base of information from the past. However, for new businesses and projects this way
of planning often does not comply. Most of the time there is no past knowledge and if there s any past
knowledge available, predicting the future out of it is nearly impossible. The dilemma is that corporate

What are we going to do if we re not certain about the size of the market by the end of September next
year? We assume that there the product is not very sensitive to the consumer price, how can we show
that we re right? Sometimes the mere identification of assumptions immediately leads to a change in
the business plan. It is for that reason that ABP should be strongly interwoven into the whole business
planning process. Implicit and explicit assumptions Assumptions according to Wikipedia are
propositions that are assumed, i.e., treated within the context of a discussion as if it were known to be
true or false . But although the Wikipedia definition of an assumption is correct, a better definition of
assumptions in the context of business planning and ABP is given by RAND. An assumption is an
assertion about some characteristic of the future that underlies the current operations or plans of an
organization There are multiple types of assumptions. The most known derivation is between implicit
and explicit assumptions. Another classification used in ABP is the derivation between primary and
secondary assumptions. This latter categorization is discussed in the Critical assumption planning
Wiki. The two classifications are not mutually exclusive; this means that an assumption can be both an
explicit and a primary assumption, while another assumption can be implicitly derived. Explicit
assumptions are assumptions of which the

Analysis Of Second Sex By Simone De Beauvoir
In Simone De Beauvoir Second Sex, the author aims to define what it is be a woman. It is difficult to
pin down the definition of something that has a multitude of meanings to different people. The author
makes the claim that although someone is female they may not identify as a woman. In an effort to
define women, men have made the comparison against themselves. The essence of woman through the
eyes of men is purely a sexual being. The Man views himself as the superior being while only viewing
women in terms of personal benefit. De Beauvoir goes on to state a man can imagine himself without
a woman yet, a woman cannot imagine herself without man. Not much has changed when it comes to
the core argument that on a subconscious level men view ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Weinstein would frequently tell the women that all actresses would partake in those type of behaviors
therefore, they should as well. Men who sexually harass women choose to prioritize their desires over
the potential long term trauma the victim will most likely endure. It also brought to light another
abuser, the bystander. Men of all ages stand by as inappropriate jokes are made at woman s behalf. In
the Weinstein scandal, numerous celebrities came forward stating they heard about rumors involving
weinstein but never the full extent. Too often people, men in particular, are willing to protect the
abuser because it is easier to ignore the situation altogether. Harvey Weinstein had female assistants
who would bring actresses to the disgraced producer knowing he would put the young actress in an

there to be true gender equality. Gender equality can also be expanded to the many genders that people
choose to identify with today. All genders other than the Man are currently seen as second class
citizens. Once the subconscious gender oppression ceases to play a role in our work and social
environments, genders can finally be equal. That means jokes are not made based on gender, pursuit of
happiness should not be dictated by gender, sexual desires will not influence political or

the family members are more related to the Drosophila grh, or to another Drosophila gene, CP2 (Ting

proteins with highly homologous DNA binding and dimerization domains. They all show restricted

Biography Of Nik Christensen And Dominic Mcgill
IEB conclusive research essay
Nik Christensen and Dominic McGill have influenced my art , being tremendously closely related to
my art works. Christensen sees his works as a trailer of a total story , which I decided to use this idea
on my art works , drawing a scene from my life explaining my emotions. McGill genre she sticks to is
paradigm of political discourse. She does not refer to the future but more about the past , political and
events. Her artwork a man is wolf to man , with the organic motions of a swirl , discerning how our
world is spinning into a spiral with all the mistakes being made. This closely influencing my work ,
with me walking into a spiraling future.

Reduces the risks and costs of establishing new systems. PIM is usually very flexible. You can quickly
and conveniently add new products to the PIM system more swiftly than you would add to an ERP
system. With this advantage, you can easily engage new applications to the system without many
hurdles. IT managers are particularly advantaged since they can be able to gauge what would happen
if they added new applications. If you project a risk or loss, you can conveniently evade it. Improves
the quality of data. If your data is of high standards, one can easily use it even in external channels.
The user friendly interface in PIM has the responsibility of checking your media data and verifying
that it is properly maintained and the quality has been increased. For example, in a website shop,
products are evidently visible to the customers. You have to ensure that the quality of such data is of

10 Things I Hate About You And The Taming Of The Shrew
Hello and welcome respected audience of the Shakespeare Society. I would like to start today by
thanking you for allowing me to speak on the topic of how the stereotypical roles of women have
changed and evolved in a positive manner since the Elizabethan era. I will start by defining a few
beneficial terms before discussing how Shakespeare s Taming of the Shrew has been appropriated by
Gil Junger s in the 1999 movie, 10 Things I Hate About You.
To make a modern adaptation of a highly recognised 16th century play, one would have to have a
perfect mix of both similarities and differences between the two, integrating elements from both eras.
Junger, the director of 10 Things I Hate About You has managed to achieve this. By using many of the
same characters and the same plot from Taming of the Shrew, he created a modernised appropriation
of the Shakespeare play that incorporates aspects of teen society. The Taming of the Shrew and 10
Things I Hate About You are similar in many ways, one way they are different however is how since
the Elizabethan Era the nature and role of women in society has changed considerably.
The Taming of the Shrew examines the way traditional 16th century notions about gender and its
hierarchy are tested and reinforced in tempestuous relationships. While patriarchy rules supreme at the
plays end, it s vital to consider the constant attempts to undermine the sexist assumptions about a
women s place in marriage. In The Taming of the Shrew gender plays a

Behind a glass wall stands a live wooly mammoth and saber tooth cat. As seen on the famous cartoon
movie Ice Age, kids watch this popular film to be intrigued. Now they can not only be fascinated with
creatures that have been lurking around their imagination, but live with them thanks to de extinction.
Extinction has existed for over 66 million years ago, when dinosaurs were wiped out. Now scientist
have disproven the definition of extinct; (of a species, family, or other larger group) having no living
members. By showing that extinct animals that were once proven to be no longer in existence can be
resurrected through deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). This process of de extinction starts with extracting
DNA from remains, then putting those fragments together to form the genome. From there scientists

Essay Comparing Dostoevsky s Crime And Punishment
People often judge others based on physical appearances, such as what they wear or their hairstyle.
The style and condition of a person s home and room can also reveal their character, as homes are the
place where they spend most of their time. In Fyodor Dostoevsky s novel titled Crime and
Punishment, the author includes descriptions of rooms to influence the reader s interpretation of the
characters. Specifically, by describing the furnishing and size of the rooms of Rodion Romanovich
Raskolnikov, the protagonist, Sonya Marmeladov, the prostitute, Alyona Ivanovna, the pawnbroker,
and Porfiry Petrovitch, the police inspector, Dostoevsky reveals the wealth, social status, and
personality of each of the characters. In Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky, the novelist
uses symbols, connotations, and metaphor to describe the rooms associated with characters to reveal
the wealth, social status, and personalities of the characters. After the emancipation of the serfs in
1861, serfs were freed from their landlords and were able to buy plots of land. However, they were

The Product Distribution Ideal For Whole Foods Market

The product distribution ideal for Whole Foods Market in Namibia will be two. First, the win win win
distribution will be used when the company is entering the new country for the first place. This
distribution channel aims at having all distributors in the supply chain to benefit from the products
being distributed. Even though American companies always aim at reducing the links in the supply
chain, this happens in the developed countries while this company is opening a new store in a
developing country where the distribution channel is expected to change. Therefore, the win win win

Therefore, using third party prospectors will initiate research and production units with the motivation
of having a ready high end market for the products (Roy, 2013).
Cost plus pricing
The ideal pricing strategy for Whole Foods Market will adopt the cost plus pricing strategy that takes
into account the cost of operations or cost of production plus a constant profit. The organic food
market analysis in Namibia indicates that there is a structured market with specific consumer. Organic
foods are better produced locally than flown from abroad. Therefore, the cost of producing these foods
using the local resources will be expected to reduce the retail cost because local production costs are
not equal to abroad production costs (Chris, et al., 2005). Another important pricing strategy ideal for
Whole Foods Market is to use psychology of pricing such that the retailer analyses the responses of
the market and develop a pricing strategy ideal to that consumer response. However, psychological
pricing will depend on the quality of organic foods and consumer services the company is going to
offer to its consumers in the foreign market. In return, the consumers are going to respect and pay for
quality and healthy organic foods they receive from Whole Foods Market Company. Since the market
for the organic food industry in Namibia is already defined as a niche that caters for the elite and
financially advantaged in the society, the company will find it easier to price

How Did Religion Affect European Society
The birth of modern science created conflict between religion and science in European societies. With
the conflicts, the people had started to question the church. These conflicted changes between religion
and science, had positively impacted the common people and had greatly damaged the stability of the
church itself. The idea that everything was to be perfect affected the communities of the people. The
ideas that the church had displayed in decades past, rejected any further discoveries or advancements
that they didn t see fit.

discovered that the moon was rough and had craters. The Catholic church had not liked his discovery,

beliefs. The Catholic church perhaps believed in Aristotle s discovery more so, because it showed that
everything was in unison with each other. Galileo and Copernicus were one in the same, as their

around it. Once again, science was rejected over religion. (document three.)

Benefits Of Airplanes And Society Essay
The Benefits of Airplanes to Society
As technology has developed throughout the years, many forms of transportation have been invented
and thoroughly advanced. The airplane is one of the inventions in transportation. The invention of the
airplane is credited to Wilbur and Orville Wright, brothers from Dayton, Ohio. The Wright brothers
were the first to successfully fly a sustained, controlled, powered, and manned airplane, which took
place on December 17, 1903 (Crouch Jakab, 2003, p.131). Throughout World War I, the demand for
airplanes grew; consequently, production and engineering rapidly improved (Crouch, 2003, p. 198).
With the development of airplanes, airplanes went from a sport for the wealthy to a functional,
efficient aircraft for carrying mail and passengers. Today, airplanes are used throughout the world for
business and commercial purposes, as well as in the medical world (Woolford Warner, 2015, pp. 150
255). The invention of the airplane has been a benefit to society. Airplanes are a benefit to society
because they have increased businesses opportunities by a significant amount. The first sources of
airplane business were through airmail. According to Dick and Patterson (2003), a quote from the first
few pilots to send mail on September 9th, 1911 reads, We believe this important event will become
historical, and its development will lead to a revolution in the present modes of conveying
communications between the peoples of the world. This quote

First of all increased the importance of the Virgin Mary for whom she felt a fierce admiration and to
who she could be related, herself being the Virgin empress . The judgment of Nestorious as a heretic
following the third ecumenical council is therefore no mystery, since Heraclius challenged the
importance of the Virgin Mary and consequently indirectly challenged the image and the beliefs of the
queen. This once again reflects empirical power within ecumenical councils at the time. Moreover, the
fourth Ecumenical council and Chalcedonian Creed was a way for the empress to deal with the
Monophysite situation and restore some sense of order. Furthermore, Justinian and Theodora s rule
reinforces the political aspect and appeal of religion for Byzantine emperors. Theodora was a fervent
monophysite christian and Justian himself was a strong supporter of the Chalcedon council. Yet, the
way with which it seems that they simply agreed to disagree actually had quite some positive political
consequences; the extent to which these were planned is of course debatable. Indeed, Justinian had
military ambitions in the Eastern empire and in North Africa where large patches of monophysites
remained therefore this situation where Theodora secretly supported monophysites and he did not
accept them without at the same time openly persecuting them was quite suitable. The support of
monophysites was

Industrial Advantage And Disadvantage Of Dc Motor
Introduction D.C Motor is used for variable speed operation because in dc motor torque and flux that
can be control independently and that is achieved by armature and field current control respectively.
D.C motor has many advantages delivering high starting torque, ease of control and non linear
performance. But due to certain disadvantage of dc machine such as mechanical commutator and
brush holder required time to time maintenance [1] .So cost of the drive system is increases. But now
D.C Motor is less used in industrial applications. Because of low cost, better performance and the
requirement of maintenance is less as compared to D.C Motor it make the asynchronous motor
advantageous in many industrial applications. SCIM are most widely used than all the rest of the
electric motor as they have all the advantages of A.C Motors and are cheaper in cost as compared to
slip ring induction motor. Because of absence of slip rings, brush maintenance duration and cost
associated with the wear and tear of brush are minimized. Because of these advantages, the induction
motor is used in element of most of the electrical drive system for all the conditions like starting,
braking, change in speed and speed reversal. To achieve the maximum efficiency of the induction
motor drive, so many techniques are developed in the last few years. Now a day s high switching
frequency converters are used for changing the frequency, phase and amplitude of the input to an A.C.

don t include your personal point of view. Texting hasn t been around and as trendy as it is now as the
average person doesn t start texting until their freshman year of high school. Texting use to be frowned
upon as a sort of childish thing but as Cullington states ...and is even becoming popular in the business
world because it allows quick messages to be sent without people having to commit to a telephone
conversation.
Early on Cullington gave us all the contrary implications of texting s effect. Things like Textspeak or
abbreviations and acronyms used in student s formal writing are some of the many negative
connotations of texting. For example teachers we finding that student were using slang like GTG
which is short for the phrase got to go peppered through writing samples. Another disagreement she
had was with the student s misuse of or lack thereof punctuation in their writing. Because texting
doesn t emphasize the importance of the correct punctuation in writing students overlook the simple
things in writing formally. She also feels, like many others, that

The Macdonald Triad
ABSTRACT The Macdonald triad, also known as the triad of sociopath is a set of three behavioral
characteristics which are associated with sociopathic behavior. How are all these tied into each other?
What are some of the characteristics that are associated with the Macdonald Triad? The Macdonald
triad is a set of three behavioral characteristics which are associated with sociopathic behavior. These
behavioral characteristics are found in the childhood histories of individuals with sociopathic
behaviors. We will examine each one of these that is associated with the Macdonald Triad. J. M.
Macdonald suggested that cruelty towards animals, fire setting and excessive bed wetting during in
childhood linked violent behavior in adulthood. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To me there isn t enough data to back the theories validity. The studies described in the text consist of
research counts of 84, 102, 1200; that is not enough research or statistical data collection to convince
me that these behaviors are direct links to the behaviors shown in serial killers. The simple downfall
of this theory is the lack of research and study groups. I believe that the strength of this theory is its
potential. With more money, research, studies, and attention I believe this theory s reputation could
improve. The Macdonald Triad does a good job of describing the emotional behind the act of the act.
The connection between nature/nurture and a child s emotional development process is extremely
important and often times are direct indicators of how they will act or react as an adult. Now I agree
that animal cruelty shows inner aggression and hatred towards themselves or another person, that bed
wetting shows lack of control, stress and signs of fear and that fire starting is a sign of needing

Symbolism In The Film, All-Heart
Symbolism is abundant within the film. Ray has created his own start up company called All Heart,
which focuses primarily on working with other companies to, for example, make necessary
medications more affordable. The symbol for his company is visible in various places within the
Embrey household, in Ray s workplace, and plays a major role toward the end when Hancock projects
the logo onto the moon for everyone to see. The logo itself symbolizes the importance of becoming a
good citizen and emphasizes working diligently to improve the quality of the world this is precisely
what Hancock attempted to do throughout the film, and his final gesture is an homage to his own
character development. The weather also plays a heavily symbolic role in establishing the mood.
Whenever Hancock is on a potentially destructive path, a storm begins to swirl above him, darkening
both the lighting and the mood of the film. The storms essentially symbolize Hancock s future when
choosing to selfishly go against society. Finally, a symbol of an eagle is shown to the audience several
times Hancock s hat at the beginning and suit toward the end both feature an eagle, and he spends

The audience is introduced to Ray from a low camera angle to emphasize his power. Although not the
typical figure of strength, this initial representation is consistent with the theme of the film and its
focus on being a good person who does not attempt to go against fate because Ray is essentially the
most moral character in the film. He proves himself to be a foil to Hancock with his immense focus on
improving the world around him. The director employs a subjective shot when Hancock leaves the
Embrey s household for the first time, primarily functioning to allow the audience to temporarily view
the world from Hancock s eyes. Viewing the neighborhood from such an angle shows

The Compensation Of Henrietta Lacks
Henrietta Lacks was born in Roanoke Virginia on August 1, 1920. She was a young black women who
would end up making the biggest contribution to science in humanity. Henrietta began to feel
something in her stomach that made her very uncomfortable and often stated she could feel a lump.
Lacks decided to take a visit to John Hopkins hospital in January of 1951, and this would change her
life forever. John Hopkins hospital was the only nearby hospital for miles that would assist those of
the negro descent. Henrietta began her visit by signing a form that gave permission to doctors to
perform any medical procedures needed. When she began her examination, Howard Jones found a
cancerous lump inside her cervix and she was misdiagnosed. Jones cut a ... Show more content on

Compensation is something, usually money, given to someone as a recompense for loss, injury, or
suffering. This actual definition lines up perfectly with what the family had to endure from Henrietta,
doctors, and the entire medical field themselves. Henrietta Lacks has a lot of family members and
many are still alive to this day. Henrietta was actually born Loretta Pleasant and later changed her
name (Biography). Her parents are John Randall Pleasant and Eliza Lacks Pleasant. After the death of
her mother, Henrietta moved with her grandfather and met her soon to be husband David Day Lacks.
David was Henrietta s first cousin and this caused health issues such as hearing loss within her
children. In 1935, Henrietta and David had a son named Lawrence (Biography). They soon had
another daughter named Elsie in 1939, and eventually married in 1941 (Biography). Elsie was
diagnosed with mental illness and sent to an insane asylum where she was often beaten and later died.
Images were taken of the horrific experiments and environmental living of these individuals. Henrietta
and Day later moved to Maryland and had three more children: David Jr., Deborah, and Joseph were
(Biography). Rebecca Skloot wrote a book called, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, where she
had many encounters with this family today (Family Perspective). Rebecca stayed very close and had
many interviews with Henrietta s daughter, Deborah. Skloot got to encounter Deborah seeing her
mother s cells through a microscope 50 years after her mother s death and she was stunned (Gabbay).
The family was unaware of what a cell even was. Medical researchers and scientists kept the HeLa
cells a secret from the family for over twenty years (Gabbay). After the family witnessed the cells,
their entire perspective changed. Deborah was amazed by these cells and finally wrapped her head
around how much she impacted the world. The family only truly knew the

Analyzing the Truman Show Essay
Analyzing the Truman Show
One physical feature of Seahaven that reeks of a movie set, is the disorder or absence of, that typical
life indubitably suffers from. Everything from the dog to the cars, the window cleaner to the mother
pushing the pram is set by the director Christoff on a preset course round and round their particular
area or doing the same job over and over again. This prevents any chaos from erupting and wipes out
the need for policemen, which we obviously didn t see any in the Truman Show. Their itinerary is the
same everyday and it is bound to be conspicious, however it is not until the end of the movie that
Truman enlightens upon this fact. Another apparent movie set prop ... Show more content on

In no matter what country from every New Yorkian city to a small outback community, rubbish on the
ground always outnumber 10 times the size of the human population. Seahaven with its spotless
streets is a illusion of the perfect heaven. No one lives in poverty and the neighbourhood is clean and
quiet. As a matter of fact, Christoff is projecting into Truman s mind a vision of a dreamworld that is
Seahaven. While commenting heavily on the outside world s disasters and violence, no bad aspect of
the real world is allowed to leak in and contaminate his master plan.
Note the scenes in which we are made aware of the relationship between Truman and his audience.
How do these scenes reveal what is really going on?
A number of dedicated viewers of the Truman Show are introduced to us. They are the people of the
real world looking into the intimate life of a real person un knowingly living in a make believe
movieset, the size of a small city. There is a obese man who lives in his bathtub and who also lives to
watch the Truman Show. This also applies to two old couch potato ladies, one of them whose obvious
favourite possesion is a cushion with Truman s face stitched on. The appeal of the Truman Show is
worldwide and apparently very riveting as demostrated by scenes of an oriental family quite enjoying
the show. Some moments could be

Benefits Of Avocado
2.2 Health and Medicinal Benefits of Avocado
Avocado has several medicinal and health benefits (Irvine, 1961 and Pamplona and Roger, 1998). The
skin of the avocado is used as an antibiotic, for ridding the intestinal tract of parasites, and as a remedy
for dysentery. The seeds are roasted and pulverized for the treatment of diarrhoea and dysentery. In the
powdered form, the seeds have been used as a dandruff treatment. Pieces of avocado seed are placed
in tooth cavities as a toothache palliative. It is recorded that Amazonian natives used avocado to treat
gout. When the pulp of the avocado fruit is added to the diet it helps to reduce cholesterol levels
(Pamplona and Roger, 1998).
Various studies have confirmed that apart from being a source ... Show more content on

However, because of the need to utilize surpluses and imperfect fruits, it has been of interest to
process the fruit for extended shelf life time and marketability. Unfortunately, avocado is very
sensitive to heating or freezing. The fruit develop off flavours (Bates, 1970) and discoloration (Golan
et al., 1977) even after the minimal thermal treatment needed to destroy spoilage microorganisms and
deactivate enzymes (Cruess et al., 1951; Brown, 1972; Gracia et al., 1976). Compounds involved in
off flavour and bitterness vary in polarity between neutral lipids to phospholipids (Bates, 1970) and
include 1 acetoxy 2, 4 dihydroxy n heptadeca 16 ene and 1, 2, 4 trihydroxy n heptadeca 16 ene (Ben
Et et al., 1973). Likewise freezing is detrimental to texture and flavor of whole avocado. Although
rapid freezing of avocado slices by liquid Freon (Smith and Winter,1970) or liquid nitrogen with
proper treatment with ascorbic and malic acids (Hanson, 1976) were claimed to produce an acceptable
product, these producers still wait for large scale implementation. In practice, since the available
mechanical equipment separates mashed pulp from the peel after manual removal of the seed, only
mashed avocado can serve as a raw material for processing. Indeed, a frozen puree known as
guacamole salad is the only avocado product of commercial relevance. This product can be stored for
weeks frozen at 18°c (Hester and Stephens, 1970; Salomon et

Body image is the way people are perceived as to body weight being fundamental to our sense of who
we are. Most people are influenced by celebrities, advertisement, and media. Building a positive body
image can trickle from speaking of thy self highly and having a positive influential mind set. Mostly
everyone deals with body image issues because they believe that there is an ideal image that they have
to pursue to be accepted in society. Stating in the Passage Enhancing Your Body Image , Today more
than 66 percent of Americans are overweight or obese; thus, a significant disconnect exists between
the media s idealized images of male and female bodies and the typical American body. You can t live
on a diet like this because it simply does not have adequate calories or protein, says Anne Fletcher,
MS, RD. Not only does protein make you feel full longer, but solid food makes you full longer.

Summary Of The Short Story The Shawl By Langston Hughes
In the short story, The Shawl by Cynthia Ozick, the symbol of the Shawl changes over the course of
the story. For Magda, the protagonist who is a baby, the shawl represents protection and nurturing.
Once Magda dies, however, the shawl represents mourning and emptiness for Rosa, Magda s mother.
Similarly, in the short story, Thank you, Ma am by Langston Hughes the blue suede shoes symbolize
varying ideas as the story develops. Initially, Roger, the protagonist, has a desire which is not met, to
own blue suede shoes, the shoes therefore, represent a feeling of lacking. Later in the story Roger is
given money to buy the shoes, at which point the shoes begin to represent his needs being met. Both
Ozick and Hughes use accessories as symbols to illustrate the protagonists transitioning between
gaining and lacking proper nourishment.
The shawl provides Magda with sustenance and protection, which allows Magda to provide these
same benefits for Rosa. In describing the shawl, Ozick writes, It was a magical shawl, it could nourish
an infant for three days and three night . While the shawl provides Magda with all the nutrients she
needs to survive, Magda helps Rosa feel satisfied, despite giving her food rations to Magda. Rosa
gains these crucial necessities indirectly from the shawl through Magda, while Magda, on the other
hand, benefits directly from the shawl. For both Magda and Rosa the shawl, in providing them with
the sustenance they need, symbolizes them having their basic needs met.
Once Magda dies, however, the shawl symbolizes an emptiness and dearth of nourishment. During her
life, the shawl provides for Magda, which allows Rosa to reap benefit also, but once Magda dies, and
the shawl no longer provides sustenance. Ozick writes, Rosa drank Magda s shawl until it dried . The
shawl dries up quickly, in contrast to the constant, never ending nourishment that the shawl possessed
prior to Magda s death. The dried up shawl symbolizes Rosa s lacking. Before Magda died Rosa s
needs were met through Magda, however, now that Magda is gone Rosa no longer has those needs
met. Although the shawl, initially, symbolized Rosa receiving proper sustenance, once Magda dies the
shawl symbolizes Rosa s lack of

  • 2. The Importance Of Journalism And Photography Many events come and go before many citizens are aware of them. This is where journalism and photography come to play. Journalism and photography allow for current events in other parts of the world to be shown to the public for awareness. Some of these events such as the time during the Arab Spring, where revolutions and protests broke out across the Middle East and North Africa, allowed for citizens to get an idea of what is going on in that particular part of the country. A world without journalism cause much of the people to be in the shadow of the unknown. But journalism creates a chance for political impact. Journalism and photography will bring transparency and awareness to the public eye leading to protests and a need for change, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Spayd) The work of journalism and photography keeps an important role of collecting information and sharing it with others. The shared knowledge that photographers and journalists provide allows for the public to assemble and have a voice. The public whom are now informed through journalism and photography are often puzzled about the stories or photos, which causes protest events to develop. In the film Bahrain: Shouting in the Dark through the media we can see the repressed citizens of Bahrain wanting a change in their government. The citizens of Bahrain assembled together protesting for a new democratic government. With journalism reports from Al Jazeera, the world was now hearing their story. Countries around the world heard the cries of the Bahrain citizens wanting for a change. But with the protest, the Bahrain s government was quick to suppress the pro democratic activists. An NPR article Bahrain: The Revolution That Wasn t Kelly McEver discussed, Bahrain s uprising was suppressed in a harsh crackdown. Thousands of people were rounded up, detained, and sometimes tortured...Several people died while in custody. (McEver) Protests may lead to better outcomes, but in this instance the outcome lead to death of many Bahrain s citizens. With the effects of journalism causing protest events to occur, there is always pressure on government officials to listen to the public. The Schuster Institute for Investigative ... • 3. The Influence Of The Middle Ages In Medieval Europe Were the Middle Ages in Europe characterized more by hope or desire? The early middle ages in Europe were characterized by conflict. Vikings, Eastern tribes, and Muslim armies battered the continent from all sides. Most of the emperors were too weak to fight off the threats after emperor charlemagne. Powerful nobles independently controlled their own land, in which they usually were servile to their emperor. Feudalism then became the main political, social, and economic organization of medieval Europe. Serfs worked as primarily farms but could be called to the war at any time. They didn t have many rights but they could own their own freedom and work on their own land, but most of them soaked in misery. Monarchs had limited power and usually ... When you visit a medieval church or cathedral you do not get a feeling of despair. I would personally say that the Middle ages were characterized by hope. The believed and had a deep feeling for Christ. Towns grew larger during the middle ages and were centre of craft, commerce and trade. People were able to grow rich through their business skills. There was always hope that a poor man might be able to improve his lot in life.Even peasants, who are sometimes thought of as desperately poor and wretched, could improve their lot in life. some peasants were better off than others, and some even became wealthy through accumulating land. There were technological innovations. Farming methods were improved, and there were inventions like spectacles, and the printing press. The middle ages was a period of nothing but hope. They always looked for the positive in things and always looked at the bright side of everything. There wasn t a time that they thought bad about a situation. They always believed that the best would happen because of Christ and I think that is how they got through what the did and succeeded as they did. They were extremely ... The Pros And Consequences Of The Revolutionary War The CPM had learnt from bitter experience to become smarter, more subtle and sophisticated, more pragmatic and aware of its limitations and by withdrawing modestly to the background, Too commented. (7) From there, it directed and manipulated ambitious and unscrupulous surrogates to create trouble, thus making it extremely difficult for the security agencies to identify and take proper action against such communist agents. When sufficient trouble had been created, even by apparently non communists or anti communists, a revolutionary situation would be created and the time would become ripe for the revolutionary struggle once more. Because of the contradictions within the ruling reactionary cliques (echoing social upheavals ), the CPM looked forward to a new revolutionary storm ominous words reminiscent of its June 1968 message which had presaged the outbreak of the second insurgency (1968 1980). In a more militant editorial broadcast on the 37th anniversary of its post war insurrection on June 1985, the CPM again spoke with a forked tongue, talking peace and calling for war. (11) The editorial called for continuing the revolutionary war in so called defence of democracy and freedom against the guns and cannons of a handful of reactionaries supported by the British imperialists. Its objective was to achieve a new leap forward (Mao s language). The CPM also called for popular resistance to stop the counter revolutionary war. In other words, the Government should stop its anti insurgent operations while the CPM was planning for another revolutionary war and a return to full scale armed conflict (what the Government side would call Emergency III), hopefully with some popular ... • 6. Logo Movie Analysis Logan: A Stand Out Superhero Movie In the past few years, the superhero genre has risen into the movie industry. This year alone, six superhero movies were released. The superhero genre is popular among young adults. While big studios like Marvel and DC are competing for audiences, many overlook Fox studio, which has been making critically acclaimed superhero movies like the X Men way before the surge of the genre. The competition between studios create an oversaturation making it hard for films like Logan to stand, but it does this and more. Logan not only transcends the superhero genre but also turns the superhero format on its head. Logan incorporates elements found in the drama, road trip, and western genre and emphasizes emotion over action. Set in a post apocalyptic future, Logon tells the story of a broken down Wolverine in his older years, taking care of Charles. Despite his reluctance to engage in any more conflicts, he is forced to escort Laura, a young girl, to safety. Although Logan may be criticized for its one dimensional villains and overdone story, director James Mangold, successfully crafted an excellent film that separates itself from the genre through realistic characters and a simplistic plot. Most of the time, Logan centralizes on its main characters, so it is understandable that other characters are not as fleshed out. The villains came off as uninteresting and forgettable. • 7. Analysis Of Oedipus Rex Bliss Anita Vacation English 9 CP Mr. Myles May 3, 2010 Oedipus Rex Bliss in Ignorance One of the most memorable and meaningful Socratic quotes applies well when in context of Sophocles Theban Trilogy. The unexamined life is not worth living, proclaims Socrates. He could have meant many things by this statement, and in relation to the play, the meaning is found to be even more complex. Indeed, the situation of Oedipus, king of Thebes, the truth of this statement is in question. Would Oedipus have been better off if he was blind to the knowledge of his birthing and the fate that was foretold to someday befall him? Truly though, his life would have been a far better and easier path had he never known about his true origins. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Oedipus, up to the point in which he heard the comment in the tavern in Corinth, lived an unexamined life. To Socrates, he was an unfulfilled man, one who deserved to know more, one who not complete. However, in a much less metaphysical sense, Oedipus life was complete, in that he had all that he needed, and was living a happy and fruitful life. As the drama progresses, he finds out more and more, learning exactly what the implications of his birth was, he suffers the fate for examining his life. So what Socrates had meant, that the life which was not rich with self exploration and reflection was not worth living, was indeed different than its application in terms of Oedipus, who s life was unexamined, yet complete (214). The question arises, what would life have been like, if Oedipus had not discovered his true origins? If he had stayed in Corinth, would this have ever happened? We find that indeed, we would have had no story, if not for that lone comment of a drunkard that sparked the fire of rebellion in the young prince Oedipus.(Chen) He ventured out to Delphi, to pry knowledge of his background out of it, and to discover if this was indeed the truth, despite the fact that his adopted parents of Corinth had assured him of it falseness. Oedipus leaves Corinth, fulfilling the Socratic idea of the unexamined life. However, we must evaluate the eventual consequences of his actions and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If we look at our world it s easy to see man s condition in sin. Mankind is completely helpless when the message of salvation is ignored. Our world remains shattered and town by the condition of sin, but God s gracious rescue plan through salvation and Jesus Christ will redeem us all and provide a solution to man s problems. () This union with Christ is called the magical exchange in which Christ assumes our debts and we inherit his wealth so that nothing (Horton pg.271) will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Ro 8:39) (Horton pg. 323 324) Let s visit the different layers of salvation. In our textbook, Horton starts with the blessing of Justification. God justifies the wicked. Justification is a legal act, wherein God deems the sinner righteous on the basis of Christ s righteousness. Horton tells us on pg. 280, God justifies the wicked not those who have done their best yet have fallen short, those who might at least be judged acceptable because of the sincerity, but those who, at the very moment of being pronounced righteous, are in themselves unrighteous. This means full repentance, which is defined as such, as a change of mind, or a conversion from sin to God. And the relinquishment of any practice from the conviction that has offended God. • 18. Analysis Of Second Sex By Simone De Beauvoir In Simone De Beauvoir Second Sex, the author aims to define what it is be a woman. It is difficult to pin down the definition of something that has a multitude of meanings to different people. The author makes the claim that although someone is female they may not identify as a woman. In an effort to define women, men have made the comparison against themselves. The essence of woman through the eyes of men is purely a sexual being. The Man views himself as the superior being while only viewing women in terms of personal benefit. De Beauvoir goes on to state a man can imagine himself without a woman yet, a woman cannot imagine herself without man. Men who sexually harass women choose to prioritize their desires over the potential long term trauma the victim will most likely endure. It also brought to light another abuser, the bystander. Men of all ages stand by as inappropriate jokes are made at woman s behalf. In the Weinstein scandal, numerous celebrities came forward stating they heard about rumors involving weinstein but never the full extent. Too often people, men in particular, are willing to protect the abuser because it is easier to ignore the situation altogether. Harvey Weinstein had female assistants who would bring actresses to the disgraced producer knowing he would put the young actress in an uncomfortable position. Downplaying the oppression of women will only make it more difficult for there to be true gender equality. Gender equality can also be expanded to the many genders that people choose to identify with today. All genders other than the Man are currently seen as second class citizens. • 21. A Family Of Transcription Factors Introduction 1. The Grainyhead (Grh) gene family Grainyhead (Grh) genes are conserved in metazoans. They encode a family of transcription factors with a unique, unusually large, DNA binding and dimerization domain, and an isoleucine rich activation domain(Attardi and Tjian, 1993; Gustavsson et al., 2008; Moussian and Uv, 2005; Ting et al., 2003b; Uv et al., 1994; Venkatesan et al., 2003; Wilanowski et al., 2002). Grh factors were first identified in Drosophila (Bray et al., 1989; Bray and Kafatos, 1991; Dynlacht et al., 1989; Johnson et al., 1989) and since then, they were also found in animals as diverse as nematodes and humans. Grh proteins have not yet been detected in unicellular organisms. Phylogenetic analysis subdivides this gene family into two main classes, the Grh like sub family and the CP2 sub family, depending whether the family members are more related to the Drosophila grh, or to another Drosophila gene, CP2 (Ting et al., 2003b; Venkatesan et al., 2003; Wilanowski et al., 2002). The fly and worm genomes each contain a single grh gene. Mammals, both mice and humans, have evolved three Grh homologues: Grh like 1 (Grhl 1, or Mammalian Grainyhead (MGR)/TFCP2L2), Grhl 2 (Brother of MGR (BOM)/TFCP2L3) and Grhl 3 (Sister of MGR (SOM)/ TFCP2L4). I would like to start today by thanking you for allowing me to speak on the topic of how the stereotypical roles of women have changed and evolved in a positive manner since the Elizabethan era. I will start by defining a few beneficial terms before discussing how Shakespeare s Taming of the Shrew has been appropriated by Gil Junger s in the 1999 movie, 10 Things I Hate About You. To make a modern adaptation of a highly recognised 16th century play, one would have to have a perfect mix of both similarities and differences between the two, integrating elements from both eras. Junger, the director of 10 Things I Hate About You has managed to achieve this. By using many of the same characters and the same plot from Taming of the Shrew, he created a modernised appropriation of the Shakespeare play that incorporates aspects of teen society. The Taming of the Shrew and 10 Things I Hate About You are similar in many ways, one way they are different however is how since the Elizabethan Era the nature and role of women in society has changed considerably. The Taming of the Shrew examines the way traditional 16th century notions about gender and its hierarchy are tested and reinforced in tempestuous relationships. While patriarchy rules supreme at the plays end, it s vital to consider the constant attempts to undermine the sexist assumptions about a women s place in marriage. The organic food market analysis in Namibia indicates that there is a structured market with specific consumer. Organic foods are better produced locally than flown from abroad. The airplane is one of the inventions in transportation. The invention of the airplane is credited to Wilbur and Orville Wright, brothers from Dayton, Ohio. The Wright brothers were the first to successfully fly a sustained, controlled, powered, and manned airplane, which took place on December 17, 1903 (Crouch Jakab, 2003, p.131). D.C motor has many advantages delivering high starting torque, ease of control and non linear performance. But due to certain disadvantage of dc machine such as mechanical commutator and brush holder required time to time maintenance [1] .So cost of the drive system is increases. The problem with how liberals and reactionaries argue this is that they ignore the fact that it is being discriminatory to the white and asian populus even when they can be in the lower social classes with the black and hispanic americans. In turn making it double as hard for them to get into college that use affirmative action because they aren t the minority race they were looking for. Also asians were a suppressed minority in america so why make it extra hard for them just because they tend do better academically? There is also a problem with conservative and reactionaries argument too about just leave it all alone to merit. The suppression and degradation of the black and hispanic communities has change their culture to not desire the education rout as much since a lot of them didn t need college and it s too much effort to prosper and this mentality goes beyond race and more of the lower class. There needs to be some assistance to the lower class to help bring more education to them that isn t based on race kind of like what moderates would theoretically believe. • 40. Pros And Cons Of Texting On Writing In the academic article Does Texting Affect Writing? Michaela Cullington weighs the pros and mostly cons on texting hindering your formal writing. A college level paper is to be considered the first step in writing at a scholarly level by experts. In high school we write for the recreation with genres like short stories or poems. In college we are expected to write more for rhetorical analysis or things that don t include your personal point of view. Texting hasn t been around and as trendy as it is now as the average person doesn t start texting until their freshman year of high school. Texting use to be frowned upon as a sort of childish thing but as Cullington states ...and is even becoming popular in the business world because it allows quick messages to be sent without people having to commit to a telephone conversation. Early on Cullington gave us all the contrary implications of texting s effect. Things like Textspeak or abbreviations and acronyms used in student s formal writing are some of the many negative connotations of texting. For example teachers we finding that student were using slang like GTG which is short for the phrase got to go peppered through writing samples. Another disagreement she had was with the student s misuse of or lack thereof punctuation in their writing. The studies described in the text consist of research counts of 84, 102, 1200; that is not enough research or statistical data collection to convince me that these behaviors are direct links to the behaviors shown in serial killers. The simple downfall of this theory is the lack of research and study groups. I believe that the strength of this theory is its potential. With more money, research, studies, and attention I believe this theory s reputation could improve. The Macdonald Triad does a good job of describing the emotional behind the act of the act. The connection between nature/nurture and a child s emotional development process is extremely important and often times are direct indicators of how they will act or react as an adult. • 42. Symbolism In The Film, All-Heart Symbolism is abundant within the film. Ray has created his own start up company called All Heart, which focuses primarily on working with other companies to, for example, make necessary medications more affordable. The symbol for his company is visible in various places within the Embrey household, in Ray s workplace, and plays a major role toward the end when Hancock projects the logo onto the moon for everyone to see. The logo itself symbolizes the importance of becoming a good citizen and emphasizes working diligently to improve the quality of the world this is precisely what Hancock attempted to do throughout the film, and his final gesture is an homage to his own character development. The weather also plays a heavily symbolic role in establishing the mood. Whenever Hancock is on a potentially destructive path, a storm begins to swirl above him, darkening both the lighting and the mood of the film. The skin of the avocado is used as an antibiotic, for ridding the intestinal tract of parasites, and as a remedy for dysentery. The seeds are roasted and pulverized for the treatment of diarrhoea and dysentery. In the powdered form, the seeds have been used as a dandruff treatment. Pieces of avocado seed are placed in tooth cavities as a toothache palliative. It is recorded that Amazonian natives used avocado to treat gout. However, because of the need to utilize surpluses and imperfect fruits, it has been of interest to process the fruit for extended shelf life time and marketability. Unfortunately, avocado is very sensitive to heating or freezing. The fruit develop off flavours (Bates, 1970) and discoloration (Golan et al., 1977) even after the minimal thermal treatment needed to destroy spoilage microorganisms and deactivate enzymes (Cruess et al., 1951; Brown, 1972; Gracia et al., 1976). Compounds involved in off flavour and bitterness vary in polarity between neutral lipids to phospholipids (Bates, 1970) and include 1 acetoxy 2, 4 dihydroxy n heptadeca 16 ene and 1, 2, 4 trihydroxy n heptadeca 16 ene (Ben Et et al., 1973). Likewise freezing is detrimental to texture and flavor of whole avocado. Although rapid freezing of avocado slices by liquid Freon (Smith and Winter,1970) or liquid nitrogen with proper treatment with ascorbic and malic acids (Hanson, 1976) were claimed to produce an acceptable product, these producers still wait for large scale implementation. In practice, since the available mechanical equipment separates mashed pulp from the peel after manual removal of the seed, only mashed avocado can serve as a raw material for processing. Indeed, a frozen puree known as guacamole salad is the only avocado product of commercial relevance. This product can be stored for weeks frozen at 18°c (Hester and Stephens, 1970; Salomon et ... • 47. Summary Of The Short Story The Shawl By Langston Hughes In the short story, The Shawl by Cynthia Ozick, the symbol of the Shawl changes over the course of the story. For Magda, the protagonist who is a baby, the shawl represents protection and nurturing. Once Magda dies, however, the shawl represents mourning and emptiness for Rosa, Magda s mother. Similarly, in the short story, Thank you, Ma am by Langston Hughes the blue suede shoes symbolize varying ideas as the story develops. Initially, Roger, the protagonist, has a desire which is not met, to own blue suede shoes, the shoes therefore, represent a feeling of lacking. Later in the story Roger is given money to buy the shoes, at which point the shoes begin to represent his needs being met. Both Ozick and Hughes use accessories as symbols to illustrate the protagonists transitioning between gaining and lacking proper nourishment. The shawl provides Magda with sustenance and protection, which allows Magda to provide these same benefits for Rosa. In describing the shawl, Ozick writes, It was a magical shawl, it could nourish an infant for three days and three night . While the shawl provides Magda with all the nutrients she needs to survive, Magda helps Rosa feel satisfied, despite giving her food rations to Magda. Rosa gains these crucial necessities indirectly from the shawl through Magda, while Magda, on the other hand, benefits directly from the shawl. For both Magda and Rosa the shawl, in providing them with the sustenance they need, symbolizes them having their basic needs met. Once Magda dies, however, the shawl symbolizes an emptiness and dearth of nourishment. During her life, the shawl provides for Magda, which allows Rosa to reap benefit also, but once Magda dies, and the shawl no longer provides sustenance. Ozick writes, Rosa drank Magda s shawl until it dried . The shawl dries up quickly, in contrast to the constant, never ending nourishment that the shawl possessed prior to Magda s death. The dried up shawl symbolizes Rosa s lacking. Before Magda died Rosa s needs were met through Magda, however, now that Magda is gone Rosa no longer has those needs met.
