Immigrants Essay
Traditionally immigrants are face numerous challenges on a daily basis. Whether it be learning a new
language, raising their children, work, housing, accessing services, transportation, cultural barriers,
and many more. But, have we as society really thought who is to blame for this and why as we should
care. How this affects them in the long run. Having all these different emotion inside them from the
not knowing. There are about 1.5 million children and youth that are brought over undocumented. . In
the book Lives in Limbo there is a saying which goes ni de aqui ni de alla meaning that they don t feel
like they belong to either side. They know they don t belong here because everyone is telling them
they don t belong but then they don t belong from where they came from because they grew up here
and that s all they know. Many of these children are often faced with discrimination, racial profiling,
bullying, forcibly taken away from their families and even deportation. These events can not only scar
them but cause them severe issues while growing up. They can become depressed, have anxiety,
PTSD, and become socially isolated. These children should not have to experience these types of
situations. Many of these children lose their only support system . In some cases some of the youth
became so hopeless that they their last resort was suicide. The first problem immigrants face is
language. It s hard enough to be a(n) undocumented immigrant having the fear of being

Mass Media And Its Effect On Society
Mass Media are organizations in our society. The medium industries provide information and
entertainment, but mass media also can affect political, social, and cultural institutions. Mediums such
as radio, newspapers, and television all reflect and affect American society. However, the main one
that I am going to discuss is Radio. Radio is more effective in mass media as compared to the other
mediums. The way radio was back then is way different from what it is in society today, it has
changed over time. People believe that radio is one of the dying mediums, but that s false. Radio has
saved plenty of lives through communication. Radio has been the first device to allow for mass
communication. It changed the pace at which information was exchanged. Radio broadcasts that exist
in society today didn t began until after World War I. Radio was used during the war to communicate.
But, the federal government had ordered all professionals off the air taking control over all stations.
Back in 1920, KDKA was licensed as the nation s first commercial broadcast in the United States. The
audience began to expand very quickly because advertisers began to see how well the broadcast was
doing. In addition, seeing that the audience was expanding they started to think about how they would
make money. So, AT T radio broadcast station (WEAF) became the first paid commercial, they began
selling limited advertisement time to sponsors. This led to success. Radio back then was and still is a

Don t Be So High And Mighty
Paul grimaced as he took another swig from his tin cup, and stared down at forlornly as he struggled
to swallow. Dear Lord, he pronounced, what was in that river? William didn t answer at first, but he
smiled as he poked the fire. It s just the Hudson. Ay, said Peter, Nothing but the blood of Tories. Don t
act like you re some kind hardened soldier, snapped Paul. By the time you joined, the Treaty of Paris
was nearly ratified, and the war over. William laughed. Don t be so high and mighty, Paul; you once

Bloody thing, that was. You know who Joseph Brant was? William nodded, but Peter frowned. Not
particularly, no. He was a Native American chief, see. They were all with the British. So we were
fighting them and the Redcoats out there. I was a great sharp shooter, so I was always hanging out in
trees, picking off scouts and officers. I was with George Rogers Clark at Vincennes, you know. You
shot officers? Peter said, incredulous. Paul nodded grimly. William looked at Paul, who was settling
into melancholy, and quickly stood up. It s very late, he said. And I don t know about you, but I want
to make it to Philadelphia sometime in the next year. So let s go to sleep and get up early in the
morning. Sound good? His companions nodded, if somewhat vaguely, and they all nestled into their
bedrolls for the night. In the morning, the quickly broke camp and began to head west, settling, rather
subconscious, into a march. It did not take long for William and Peter to begin to chatter. They talked
about everything, from why they were going to Philadelphia to their favorite food back at home.
William discussed buttery cornbread at great length, while Peter mourned the lack of fresh shellfish.

The history of the United States military is a very prestige, brave, heroic, and memorable one at that.
Starting on September 3, 1793 the United States was officially it s own nation and it s own military. At
that time many other countries didn t believe that we would succeed but, now we are one of the
strongest, freest, and most prestige country to possible ever be developed.

After several months of failed experiments they had finally made a bomb to test. On July 6, 1945 they
had tested this new bomb at Los Alamos. Then one month later the 2 nuclear bombs were dropped on
Japans Hiroshima and Nagasaki. One of the main reasons that Truman had initiated the dropping was
because he belived it would end the war.
Once every one had realized that the Manhattan Project was a success the Soviet Union had begin to
make there own form of a nuclear weapon. Thus the begin of the atomic arms race had started. This
had also started the beginning of the cold war as well.

In 1949 the cold war had started , China had turned communist, and the Soviet Union tested there first
atom bomb. The testing of there atom bomb was one of the many reasons why this war had started.
One of the other reasons was that communism was taking over the east and the nations of the U.N.
were afraid that there allies or profits might be lost to communism. When China had became
communist with as many people it has making a large workforce could spell trouble for the
democracies. Communism was also flexing it s muscles in the Soviet Union after making sure the

Othello Illusion Vs Reality Essay
Every day we are constantly meeting new people and with meeting new people comes new
personalities. Some may be our friend while others may be hypocritical. But at the end true colors are
revealed. Illusion verses reality is one of the many themes expressed in Othello by William
Shakespeare. There are many examples shown through the character Othello where the misconception
of illusion and reality leads to misfortune. This is displayed when Othello develops an outrageous
jealousy due to Iago manipulating him, or when there s irrelevant hatred created between Othello and
Cassio because of these manipulations. When Iago s schemes work it fools Othello s gullible
personality, resulting in him doubting his love for Desdemona. William Shakespeare ... Show more

Due to Iago s perception of Othello being naïve, Iago uses his phenomenal understanding of the
human psyche as his ability to orchestrate pre planned scenarios. Iago is successfully and carefully
able to manipulate Othello s thoughts into thinking Desdemona has been unfaithful and that it was
false love. I called my love false love, but what he said then? (IV, iii, 59) This is significant because
Desdemona is beginning to realize that the love Othello had for her must have been false she s worried
that Othello will leave her. Due to Othello s inability to differentiate between delusion and reality it s
bringing forth disaster leading to their relationship suffering. Othello being able to trust people easily
allowed Iago s words to manipulate him into making a tremendously poor decision which was killing
Desdemona. Put out the light, and then put out the light, (V,ii, 7) This quote is paramount because
Othello blows out the candle just before he strangles Desdemona which symbolizes Desdemona s
fragile life and because he is so manipulated by Iago there is no turning back and he is ready to kill
her. Othello muses that the difference between Desdemona s life and a candle s light is that he can put
out and relight the candle but he cannot bring Desdemona back to life. The thought of not being able
to bring Desdemona back to life did not stop him from murdering Desdemona,

Why Do We Need Effective Classroom Management
Teachers often wonder how to execute the ideal lesson, what structure should they adopt and how to
ensure that all their students cooperate. What we need to recognise is what classroom management is
and how much does student behavior factor? Why is it significant? What strategies does my mentor
use to establish classroom management within the class? If we know the behaviour of our students,
what do we need to do to ensure that effective classroom management is successfully acquired? All
these questions need to be answered as they all link towards a successful lesson and student
cooperation.
During my two weeks of placement, I was placed at St Albans Primary School in a prep class.
Considering that these students are at a young age, they are in a position where they are still
developing skills and are in the process of becoming mature, therefore classroom management is
crucial. In the class that I was in, students would often cause trouble with other members of the class,
they are easily distracted and overall difficult to handle. Being that I am a pre service teacher, they
often took advantage of me while I conducted the class, they would do the events explained above,
and this is due to the lack of classroom management and my ability to maintain student behaviour.
This led to students not understanding the task at hand and the overall focus of the lesson was not
acquired. It is crucial that classroom management is maintained, without a theoretical approach to
classroom

Controversy Behind South Park s Ethics
South Park, the animated TV series aired on Comedy Central was created by Matt Stone and Trey
Parker and is one of the many new shows that involve animation with high level adult comedy that
parodies current events going on across the United States and throughout the world. South Park is just
one of many new shows that involve this sort of high end entertainment and they are taking the
television ratings by storm. This show, along with others of its nature such as Family Guy, The
Simpsons, and King of the Hill are all extremely controversial in nature and in regards to the
situations portrayed on the television screen. These shows have gotten consistently more obnoxious,

FOX gave them $2,000 to make a video portfolio that he could send as a Christmas card to other
company executives to pitch the idea of the show. I did the animation using nothing more then
construction paper cutouts, Parker says, and we both improvised the dialogue, screaming obscenities
at each other in my basement for hours while my mom was baking fudge upstairs wondering what in
the world we were doing. It cost $750 and we pocketed the rest. To complete this project they used
relatively the same exact setup as they had previously done at the University of Colorado in Boulder.
When it came to doing work for the first Pilot show for South Park, Matt and Trey used more than
5,000 construction paper cut outs and a the same exact 16mm camera. Each action shot was filmed
frame by frame directly onto video film. It took approximately 70 days to make the pilot for the show.
Using traditional methods for the Comedy Central pilot the duo claimed it took us forever, because it
was 22 minutes long, Stone says. Another animator, Terrence Masson, was the first to suggest that
South Park could be made using CG and he proceeded to make a 10 second playground scene using
cut outs he had received with approval from Matt and Trey. Computers were used starting with the
very first episode, but the episodes didn t look like construction paper animation again until episode

Heeding Literary Omens In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men

The Importance of Heeding Literary Omens: Of Mice and Men The novel, Of Mice and Men, by John
Steinbeck, depicts the unfortunate tale of two men traveling in search of labor. Lennie Small, and
George Milton, born and raised in Auburn, settle in Salinas valley making their living as ranch hands.
Conflict arises as Lennie struggles to heed George s words and eventually Lennie suffers his downfall
at the hand of his best friend. John Steinbeck used foreshadowing in, Of Mice and Men, to express and
reveal the sentiments behind characters actions and personalities throughout the novel, demonstrating
the importance of foreshadowing to deepen the understanding of major events in a novel. The author
utilizes the setting of the book to foreshadow the differences in Lennie and George s characters.
Before they are introduced, Steinbeck describes the diverse region of mountains and streams close to
George and Lennie s destination. The area is separated by a river with one side harboring, golden
foothill slopes [which] curve up to the strong and rocky Gabilan mountains, but on the valley side the
water is lined with trees willows fresh and green with every spring, carrying in their lower leaf
junctures the debris of the winter s flooding, (Steinbeck 1). Steinbeck uses the contrast in the opposite
sides of the river to foreshadow the variation in the mental and physical aspects of his two main

The Media Production Program At Ryerson University
Polaroid photographs can be thought of as tangible moments in time. They give off vibes of nostalgia
and whimsy. These feelings lead me to incorporate Polaroid s in my personal media artifact. And since
I am in the Media Production program at Ryerson University, I found it appropriate to apply what I
learned digitally in Photoshop to represent myself in an assemblage of hanging Polaroid s.
Corkboards are commonly used for reminders, organizing and possibly posting things we like on
them. These elements often come into play when I try to start a project. I often need to plan in advance
but even when I try to stay organized, I am scattered much like the board. The texts are what I used to
be inspired when I am creating something of my own. And like many aspects in life, the Polaroid s
and board have imperfections, but it is these imperfections build character. When hung together they
form a tapestry that tells a story of my life. I will now explain part of that story by analyzing three of
these texts from my collage by applying key concepts commonly studied in popular culture.
Habitus, described by sociologist Pierre Bourdieu is the manifestation of culture through developed
habits and predispositions. Habitus can be thought of as the procedural memory one develops when
one improves in a sport by practicing it for many years (as cited in Cultural Capital, 2016). This
metaphor fits perfectly for something I love to watch and play: hockey.

`` Yes A College Education Is Worth The Cost `` By Rodney...
In his essay, Yes a College Education is Worth the Cost, writer Rodney Smith discusses how students
of this generation don t care about receiving a great education for the future. Throughout his essay he
explains how a college education is worth the cost. He stated that people between the ages of 18 34
say they would much rather get a job and make money than spend money to go back to school to
obtain a higher degree. Smith s family grew up in Oklahoma and they viewed education as an
investment. Smith was influenced by his father s upbringing and attended college and law school just
like his father. By establishing and building his case about how education is worth the cost, uses a
great deal of evidence, his argument is well organized, and he gains the audience s attention.
Background of the author
The organization of Smith argument was well structured. Smith begins his argument by imagining a
student getting a worthless degree and realizing that the degree he got won t repay the loan debt (29).
He then uses one type of persuasion, logos. He uses logos in the beginning to show the percentages of
going and not going to college can affect your future. In addition, the data illustrates the percentage of
people who have a certain degree and how much money the degree will earn them (29). After that, he
explains thoroughly why college education is worth the money. Smith uses pathos to emotionally
connect to his audience when he tells his story about when he was a president at

Essay on Little Women
Little Women, Louisa May Alcott
Book Theme: In the arduous journey from childhood to adulthood, a young woman is faced with two
things that need great attention and balance the progress of her individual social standing, and the
welfare of her immediate family.
Main Conflict: The book does not really follow the traditional single plot line characteristic of many
stories (especially during the time it was written). Alcott illustrated the roads the four March girls
Amy, Beth, Jo, and Meg take in their lives as they become young women. The storyline includes many
mini conflicts, such as Jo s writing, or Beth s illness, or Laurie s inclination to love Jo despite Amy s
affections. Generally speaking, the one overlying conflict stands as ... Show more content on

How Louisa May Alcott emphasizes on certain aspect of each March girl that sets them apart from the
other three is quite intriguing. For the most part, this book seemed more directed at a feminine
audience. You d have thought I could figure that out from the title, but I chose the book because of its
reputation. Although it was slow and gradual (after all, the story followed the life of these little
women), getting through the book was like growing up with the March girls. I like that Jo was a fiery
tomboy, that Beth was shy and reserved, that Meg was all knowing and wise, and that Amy was naive
and proud. It was even more enjoyable to see them grow into adults that contradicted some of their
former ways. Jo for instance, exhibited great change, especially when she burned her old sensationalist
stories in Mr. Bhaer s fire. This symbolic event included a step away from Jo s old behavior and
towards the life of the woman she was meant to be.
I did a little research on the books themes to get some ideas on what Alcott was trying to convey in
Little Women. What I found was a little discouraging. Initially, Alcott s priority was to show how
young women (more specifically from that time period) had to face two premier choices. Many had to
choose between staying and caring for their immediate family, or to move on and pursue their life s
interests. Now although the four March girls moved on to better things,

Lust By Simon Blackburn Quotes
Lust: the seven deadly sins by Simon Blackburn is part of a seven book series covering the seven
deadly sins. In the book Blackburn takes a wide ranging, historical approach, discussing lust as
viewed by Aristophanes and Plato, lust in the light of the Stoic mistrust of emotion, and the Christian
fear of the flesh that catapulted lust to the level of deadly sin. He describes how philosophical
pessimists like Schopenhauer and Sartre contributed to our thinking about lust and explores the false
starts in understanding lust represented by Freud, Kinsey, and modern evolutionary psychology. (

questions of myself. Do I really want to draw aside the curtains and let light disperse the decent night
that thankfully veils our embarrassments? Am I to stand alongside the philosopher Crates, the Cynic,
who believing that nothing is shameful, openly copulated with his wife Hipparchia? Certainly not, but
part of the task is to know why not. (Blackburn, Simon. Introduction. Lust: The Seven Deadly Sins.

The Pros And Cons Of Justifying The Aeneid War
When the Greeks achieved victory over Troy, Aeneas fled with the other Trojan survivors. The Trojans
spent countless years searching for a new home, and finally found Italia. Due to a much earlier
grudge, Juno stirs up trouble and plunges the Trojans and Latins into war. The fact that the Trojans are
initially peaceful, that King Latinus wishes to ally with the Trojans, and that the rulers who fight the
Trojans are tyrants, justifies the Aeneid War.
First, the Trojans have not intentionally provoked the rulers of the cities of Italia. When the Trojans
arrive, they declare peace and bring gifts to the Latins. When the Latins attack the Trojans, the Trojans
seek peace with the people of King Evander and the Estruscans. The Trojans originally

David Foster Wallace, author of the essay Authority and American Usage*, praises and advocates for
good writers who have a strong rhetorical ability, which he defines as the persuasive use of language
to influence the thoughts and actions of an audience (Wallace 628). To have a strong rhetorical ability,
an author needs to be aware of whom their audience is, in order to present their information in a way
that will be influential on their audience. Wallace recognizes that an author who applies a strong
rhetorical ability will be able to connect with the audience so that they respond not just to [their]

Our teacher, Mrs. Hetrick, provided the answer to our question: These essays could have easily been
generated by a computer program. They tell me nothing about yourselves; why in the world you are
telling me all of this? You need to make me care about the message you are conveying, otherwise,
your writing is useless. She then told us that while we were all communicating in the proper format,
we had failed to take into consideration whom our audience was. In order to truly persuade and
influence our audience, we had to do more than place complicated ideas into a grammatically
immaculate sentences; we need to show the audience why they should care about our writing;
otherwise, they will just lose interest. I realize now that this experience provided a stable foundation

authors Wallace deems as good through their rhetorical strategies.

The Role of the Noble Lie in the Iliad and the Republic
Lie
2 : something that misleads or deceives
Noble
5 : possessing, characterized by, or arising from superiority of mind or character or of ideals or morals
(Merriam Webster Dictionary)
The very thought of a noble lie is contradictory, yet Plato uses it as the basis for stability within his
perfect republic. The concept that a lie so deeply ingrained in society will allow it to remain peaceful
is generally thought to be unique to Plato. This is because Plato s idea of the noble lie is one that is at
the very root of society one that is accepted as a truth. What makes Plato s Noble Lie such a hallmark
of knowledge is that it has never been tested, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conversely, when a soldier is filled with angst and attempts to strike down a more powerful being an
immortal or when an immortal influences a mortal by asserting his or her power, war breaks out.
Achilles, in Book I, proclaims, Remind [Zeus] of that, now, go and sit beside him, grasp his knees . . .
persuade him, somehow, to help the Trojan cause, to pin the Achaeans back against their ship, trap
them round the bay and mow them down (484 488). If Achilles had not believed that immortals were
more powerful, he would not have attempted to directly influence his mother Thetis a goddess. To
preserve the integrity of the lie, Achilles couldn t even exist. His existence is proof that the noble lie is
untrue, as he as the offspring of a mortal and immortal, and possesses powers greater than the
common mortal. If Achilles did not exist, the Iliad, a story about his wrath and anger, could not exist
meaning there would be peace between the Achaeans and Trojans. However, the noble lie within the
Iliad still remains; mortals and immortals should not interact. Because Achilles appeals to his mother,
the war continues.
Although the means to the ends may be different when comparing the the role of a noble lie in the
Iliad and the Republic, the ends of the lie remains the same. Plato introduces the lie by writing:
Could we, I said, somehow contrive one of those lies that come

for all of the sadness and despair were they live. His parents, along with everyone else in the mouse
community did not think he would live, but he did. His brothers and sisters picked on him quite often
for his size and for all of his looks. He didn t mind, he never even let it bother him when his mother or
father called him a disappointment for his looks or his inability or unwillingness to act like a mouse.
His brother, Furlough, took him on a tour of the castle to learn how to be a mouse, but his attempts to

In the early parts of the 20th Century, Canada experimented with banning alcohol consumption. There
were some exceptions to this, but most of Canada s Provincial governments issued some sort of
prohibitory laws. The exception being Québec who only prohibited hard liquor, meaning that they
allowed the production and consumption of beverages, such as, beer. This drive towards prohibition
started during the mid 19th Century. It all started during the Temperance Movement, when proponents
voluntarily abstained from alcohol. This abstention was due to alcohol s, perceived, moral downfalls.
However, slowly, the various provinces reversed their restrictions on alcohol and moved from
prohibition to system of coordination. There were several ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They thought that ridding the world of alcohol was necessary for their saviors return. They used the
Temperance Movement as a means to achieve their ultimate goal social salvation. The Temperance
Movement was not just about abstaining, or riding the world from alcohol, but it was all about
religion. In fact, the movement had a positive correlation with religion; which, meaning that when
religious fever increases so does the popularity of the Temperance Movement . In essence, the
temperance was a religious, moral, crusade to prepare society for the second coming of the one true
savior Jesus Christ. Therefore, this shows that the Temperance Movement was a religious movement
as well.
The movement went further than just trying to cleanse society from the grips of alcohol. It centered on
the health and well being of the family unit. The movement consisted of various different
organizations. Two examples of numerous temperance groups are The Bands of Hope of the Sons of
Temperance (BHST) and the Women s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU). The BHST for instance
encouraged children to abstain from liquor, tobacco, and bad language. This shows that the
Temperance Movement wanted to go beyond alcohol reform. It could be argued that all fore
mentioned things are immoral, thus they must be abstained from. The reformers also tried to change,
or create, a new definition of what it is to be a real man. The proponents of temperance said that real

Margaret Sanger Vs Betty Friedan
Throughout history, leaders of political and social movements have designed slogans and catchphrases
to mobilize ordinary citizens into political and social activists. Historically, activists such as Nelson
Mandela, Mohandas Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and countless others have, in
their speeches and writings, created a perfect pairing of words that persists in the mind of the listener.
Two such activists of the Twentieth Century were Margaret Sanger and Betty Friedan. Friedan and
Sanger greatly influenced the women s rights movement; despite both being feminists, however, their
personal beliefs in terms of other civil rights movements often fell at opposite ends of the spectrum.
Both Friedan and Sanger popularized phrases which empowered their respective followers and similar
activists to push back against a system designed to repress them; the phrases that the two activists
used, however, reflected their different brands of activism and revealed their differences of opinion on
who mattered both for and in the Women s Rights Movement. : Sanger with the phrase birth control
and Friedan with the term feminine mystique.
Betty Friedan, who lived from 1921 2006, constructed her activism through her writing. She wrote for
trade unions and magazines, and later, at the age of 42, published her best known work The Feminine
Mystique. This book stirred up a following among urban, white, middle class American women who
felt that their male counterparts

Analysis Of Warren St. John s Outcasts United
In Warren St. John s Outcasts United, the citizens of Clarkston, Georgia had a fantasy of living in the
ideal American town. However, that fantasy stood no chance when faced with the harsh reality of life.
When a myriad of refugees from war torn countries were placed in Clarkston, the townspeople saw
their fantasy begin to slip away. Clarkston s residents disliked the influx of refugees because they
feared the thought of losing their ideal American town. The citizens were too selfish to live in such a
state of liminality as depicted by St. John. Rather than helping their neighbors, the old Clarkston
residents maintained their ideology by isolating the refugees and making it nearly impossible for the
refugees to survive or have a desirable life in Clarkston. The Clarkston residents were driven by fear
of the unknown and were reluctant to accept the refugees. Luma started a youth soccer program,
which was aimed toward the refugee children to help the younger generation of refugees fit into the
American society and lessen the tensions between the Clarkston residents and the refugees that was
evident in her generation of refugees. The Clarkston residents had to accept and become a part of the
inevitable change in their community.
To begin, the Clarkston townsfolk had to eliminate the isolation between themselves and the refugees
and accept the reality of their town changing. The refugees were set to live in apartments on one side
of the town, while a majority of the

Finelli s Bust Of St. Peters Basilica
These three busts of women in the 1600s are exceptionally different than those before this time.
Women portraits in the 1600s have obvious influence from these sculptors, but also lack the focus to
detail and movement. Andrea Bolgi sculpted St. Helen which is housed in St. Peters. The sculpture has
movement expressed through the drapery which is used by Bernini in a copious amount of his
sculptures and Algardi used this in his bust of Olympia Maidalchini Pamphilj. Also in St. Peters
Basilica, Francesco Mochi takes the same approach to his sculpture of St. Veronica. St. Veronica is
portrayed in a dramatic way, with multiple folds in her dress and the cloth with Jesus s face is blowing
in the wind. Taking a page from the book of Bernini, Mochi ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He adds a story to his portrait, and has intense detailed style to the face of the sitter without losing
beauty and passion. Finelli s bust is elegantly beautiful, but is not done natural. Finelli fails to focus on
anything about his sitters face which leaves her looking like just another wealthy woman with no
depth to her. Algardi adds detail to the face of his sitter, but instead of portraying at her best moment,
takes a naturalistic approach which makes the portrait unflattering. Bernini added detail needed, but
still managed to make the portrait look like the best version of the sitter. Although, this may represent
the beauty of the sitter more than the skill of the artist. Bernini, Algardi, and Finelli are all infatuated
with detail, this is what makes their portraits stand out from all of the others. These are some of the
first portraits of woman sculpted, and it is fitting to the time that the focus on detail is used on
accessories or sexuality. The artists focus on detail, but each to different parts of their works to create
different qualities. Finelli has fine detail to accessories, and intrinsic drill work. While Bernini is at the
other spectrum, detail to face but faster drill work, and Algardi falls in the middle of this. Bernini,
Algardi, and Finelli are all well respected and each bring their own unique style to baroque period, but
Bernini goes above and beyond. Bernini s

The Role Of Excessive Rewarding For Children In Sports
Excessive rewarding for children in sports can play a role in depleting their competitive traits. Being
competitive can be a good thing that will help children later in life when trying to be the best
candidate for a job. There has been a seismic shift in American culture in an effort to make each child
feel special. The mentality has created an atmosphere where everyone gets a trophy, but awarding
medals and trophies just for participation sets the bar very low, according to experts. Trophies make
kids feel like finishing in last place may be good enough ( Mens Journal
http://www.mensjournal.com/adventure/races sports/how participation trophies are making our kids
soft 20150725) Children need to understand that not everyone can win. Children who are rewarded no
matter their rank do not strive to better themselves. They will believe that they have given enough
effort because they received a trophy which signifies winning. Studies have shown that rewarding kids

If a child only acts correctly when he or she is being awarded they aren t really learning anything and
their bad behavior will follow them to adulthood. Children who receive more material rewards grow
up to be more, well, materialistic. (Renzulli http://time.com/money/3733905/downside treating kids
for good behavior/) When parents overvalue their children they get a sense of entitlement and think
that there are no consequences for their actions. Children also get a false sense of entitlement by being
overly praised for things, and rewarded for tasks that they should be doing as a matter of course.
Theres nothing wrong with rewarding achievement and excellence but it becomes a problem when
you reward mediocre efforts. (Lehman https://www.empoweringparents.com/article/i want it now how

Hannibal In The Prince By Machiavelli
In The Prince Machiavelli speaks about virtue, and describes many of his characters to be virtuous.
Machiavelli s ideal virtuous leader must have the ability to avoid fortune, ability to use one s own
arms, and being a virtuous leader involves skill, therefore, to gain and remain in power.
Machiavelli s example of Hannibal in The Prince teaches us that having virtue or being virtuous is to
remain in power with the use of force. In chapter seventeen Hannibal is portrayed as being cruel;
maintains his army unified to gain and remain in power. Machiavelli also rates Hannibal highly on the
scale of virtue because it is said that ...together with his inhuman cruelty which, together with his
infinite virtues, always made him venerable and terrible

Collective Bargaining During The Great Depression
After researching information about collective bargaining, I found several cases of employees
exercising the rights they are entitled to. One of these rights I found was the right of employees to
form a union. The act of collective bargaining, be it a labor union, strike, picket, etc., came to a height
during the Great Depression.
The Great Depression was a significant time in the United States for many reasons. It spurred the
formation of labor unions, strikes against banks, and just an overall demand for greater working
conditions and employee welfare. With the revolt against banks happening as a result of the crash, a
union was formed in 1937 known as the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU).
The CTU was powerful in establishing bargaining rights,

George Kesey s One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest
Only a few are able to utilize the power to control and manipulate situations which can lead to drastic
outcomes. Those with an assertive and manipulative personality tends to use that to their own benefit
and completely disregard the impact their personality has on the surrounding people and themselves.
In Ken Kesey s novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, he expresses the theme of power and
manipulation through two characters, Nurse Ratched and McMurphy. Both characters use their
manipulative powers for their own advantage in a deceptive way that causes the patients admitted to
the asylum to suffer rather than improve.
Regarding Miss Ratched, she seems to show signs of passive aggressive behavior throughout the
book. This behavior adds to her manipulative ways and contributed to the decrease of the patients
progress (mental/physical state). Passive aggressive behavior is used to maintain control and power
because it s a way for her to not display any signs of weakness. Miss Ratched, also known as the Big
Nurse to the patients, fights hard to remain as the top authority figure in the Ward due to her thirst for
power. To maintain the control over the men, she emasculates them, stripping them of their
masculinity, in various ways to prevent the chance of an uproar against her. For instance, after a group
meeting regarding Harding s problem with his wife s breasts, the patients attack Harding. In response,
McMurphy provides an analogy of a pecking party to the current

Construction Of A Local Public School
Last year, the city of Colchester, England decided to expand the building of a local public school due
to a growing population. The land on which the school is built holds an abundant amount of
archaeological information relevant to the history of Colchester. This data was only briefly reached in
1911 when amateur archaeologist, Henry Jones, was given permission to quickly excavate the site.
This came about after century old human remains were discovered during the construction of the
original school. From his excavations, Jones concluded that the remains of the three bodies discovered
were killed during the Boudiccan Rebellion in 60 61 CE. Due to the circumstances under which Jones
performed his excavations, he was not able to produce a stratigraphic section of the site. Jones also
failed to keep any written record of his excavations and the remaining artifacts and remains have since
been lost. With the expansion of the school in Colchester, it is my job to perform a thorough
excavation of the site before construction begins. Using the law of superposition, with a start and end
date of approximately 200 BCE 1 CE or 100 BCE ± 100, stratum 800 is the oldest stratum
represented. This date was formulated from the average of seven radiocarbon samples. Due to the lack
of cultural material present in the stratum, it can be surmised that this stratum was uninhabited.
The next oldest stratum using the law of superposition, is stratum 700, dates to 200 BCE 1 CE to 43
CE. I

Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Market Economy
Market Economy A market economy is one of the types of economies. In this particular economy
economic decisions and the pricing of goods and services are done by the citizens and businesses of
the economy. The market economy is the complete opposite of a command economy. Adam Smith,
David Ricardo and Jean Baptiste developed the idea of a market economy in the late 19th early 20th
centuries. With a market economy the idea is based off of a supply and demand system with citizens
and businesses. With this system there is rarely or ever any government involvement. Almost all
governments nowadays have this type of economic system infiltrated in their economy in some way.
They will either have a full market economy or they will have a mixed economy which is most
common, this is an economy with some government influence but mainly based off citizens and
businesses. In my opinion I think there are advantages and disadvantages to this economic system. I ll
start with the disadvantages. One of the main disadvantages would be not having a deciding power or
having someone in charge to step in when something doesn t make sense or is a bad idea that becomes
undecided between citizens and businesses. Another disadvantage is that sometimes too much freedom
can be a bad thing, free reign to do what you want can be cool and nice until people start using that
freedom in a negative way. However there are also advantages, one of them being the absolute
freedom and the ability to do and vote

Whether it be learning a new language, raising their children, work, housing, accessing services, transportation, cultural barriers, and many more. But, have we as society really thought who is to blame for this and why as we should care. How this affects them in the long run. Having all these different emotion inside them from the not knowing. There are about 1.5 million children and youth that are brought over undocumented. . In the book Lives in Limbo there is a saying which goes ni de aqui ni de alla meaning that they don t feel like they belong to either side. They know they don t belong here because everyone is telling them they don t belong but then they don t belong from where they came from because they grew up here and that s all they know. Many of these children are often faced with discrimination, racial profiling, bullying, forcibly taken away from their families and even deportation. These events can not only scar them but cause them severe issues while growing up. They can become depressed, have anxiety, PTSD, and become socially isolated. These children should not have to experience these types of situations. Many of these children lose their only support system . In some cases some of the youth became so hopeless that they their last resort was suicide. The first problem immigrants face is language. • 4. Mass Media And Its Effect On Society Mass Media are organizations in our society. The medium industries provide information and entertainment, but mass media also can affect political, social, and cultural institutions. Mediums such as radio, newspapers, and television all reflect and affect American society. However, the main one that I am going to discuss is Radio. Radio is more effective in mass media as compared to the other mediums. The way radio was back then is way different from what it is in society today, it has changed over time. People believe that radio is one of the dying mediums, but that s false. Radio has saved plenty of lives through communication. Radio has been the first device to allow for mass communication. It changed the pace at which information was exchanged. Radio broadcasts that exist in society today didn t began until after World War I. Radio was used during the war to communicate. But, the federal government had ordered all professionals off the air taking control over all stations. Back in 1920, KDKA was licensed as the nation s first commercial broadcast in the United States. The audience began to expand very quickly because advertisers began to see how well the broadcast was doing. In addition, seeing that the audience was expanding they started to think about how they would make money. So, AT T radio broadcast station (WEAF) became the first paid commercial, they began selling limited advertisement time to sponsors. This led to success. Radio back then was and still is a ... William didn t answer at first, but he smiled as he poked the fire. It s just the Hudson. Ay, said Peter, Nothing but the blood of Tories. Don t act like you re some kind hardened soldier, snapped Paul. By the time you joined, the Treaty of Paris was nearly ratified, and the war over. William laughed. Don t be so high and mighty, Paul; you once boasted that John Paul Jones was your cousin. William took on a mocking voice. Oh, you say you re a fisherman? William nodded, but Peter frowned. Not particularly, no. He was a Native American chief, see. They were all with the British. So we were fighting them and the Redcoats out there. I was a great sharp shooter, so I was always hanging out in trees, picking off scouts and officers. I was with George Rogers Clark at Vincennes, you know. You shot officers? Peter said, incredulous. Paul nodded grimly. William looked at Paul, who was settling into melancholy, and quickly stood up. It s very late, he said. And I don t know about you, but I want to make it to Philadelphia sometime in the next year. So let s go to sleep and get up early in the morning. Sound good? His companions nodded, if somewhat vaguely, and they all nestled into their bedrolls for the night. In the morning, the quickly broke camp and began to head west, settling, rather subconscious, into a march. It did not take long for William and Peter to begin to chatter. • 7. Othello Illusion Vs Reality Essay Every day we are constantly meeting new people and with meeting new people comes new personalities. Some may be our friend while others may be hypocritical. But at the end true colors are revealed. Illusion verses reality is one of the many themes expressed in Othello by William Shakespeare. There are many examples shown through the character Othello where the misconception of illusion and reality leads to misfortune. This is displayed when Othello develops an outrageous jealousy due to Iago manipulating him, or when there s irrelevant hatred created between Othello and Cassio because of these manipulations. When Iago s schemes work it fools Othello s gullible personality, resulting in him doubting his love for Desdemona. William Shakespeare ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to Iago s perception of Othello being naïve, Iago uses his phenomenal understanding of the human psyche as his ability to orchestrate pre planned scenarios. Iago is successfully and carefully able to manipulate Othello s thoughts into thinking Desdemona has been unfaithful and that it was false love. I called my love false love, but what he said then? (IV, iii, 59) This is significant because Desdemona is beginning to realize that the love Othello had for her must have been false she s worried that Othello will leave her. Due to Othello s inability to differentiate between delusion and reality it s bringing forth disaster leading to their relationship suffering. Othello being able to trust people easily allowed Iago s words to manipulate him into making a tremendously poor decision which was killing Desdemona. Put out the light, and then put out the light, (V,ii, 7) This quote is paramount because Othello blows out the candle just before he strangles Desdemona which symbolizes Desdemona s fragile life and because he is so manipulated by Iago there is no turning back and he is ready to kill her. Othello muses that the difference between Desdemona s life and a candle s light is that he can put out and relight the candle but he cannot bring Desdemona back to life. The thought of not being able to bring Desdemona back to life did not stop him from murdering Desdemona, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Why Do We Need Effective Classroom Management Teachers often wonder how to execute the ideal lesson, what structure should they adopt and how to ensure that all their students cooperate. What we need to recognise is what classroom management is and how much does student behavior factor? Why is it significant? What strategies does my mentor use to establish classroom management within the class? If we know the behaviour of our students, what do we need to do to ensure that effective classroom management is successfully acquired? All these questions need to be answered as they all link towards a successful lesson and student cooperation. During my two weeks of placement, I was placed at St Albans Primary School in a prep class. Considering that these students are at a young age, they are in a position where they are still developing skills and are in the process of becoming mature, therefore classroom management is crucial. In the class that I was in, students would often cause trouble with other members of the class, they are easily distracted and overall difficult to handle. Being that I am a pre service teacher, they often took advantage of me while I conducted the class, they would do the events explained above, and this is due to the lack of classroom management and my ability to maintain student behaviour. This led to students not understanding the task at hand and the overall focus of the lesson was not acquired. It is crucial that classroom management is maintained, without a theoretical approach to classroom ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

South Park is just one of many new shows that involve this sort of high end entertainment and they are taking the television ratings by storm. FOX gave them $2,000 to make a video portfolio that he could send as a Christmas card to other company executives to pitch the idea of the show. It cost $750 and we pocketed the rest. To complete this project they used relatively the same exact setup as they had previously done at the University of Colorado in Boulder. When it came to doing work for the first Pilot show for South Park, Matt and Trey used more than 5,000 construction paper cut outs and a the same exact 16mm camera. Each action shot was filmed frame by frame directly onto video film. It took approximately 70 days to make the pilot for the show. Using traditional methods for the Comedy Central pilot the duo claimed it took us forever, because it was 22 minutes long, Stone says. Another animator, Terrence Masson, was the first to suggest that South Park could be made using CG and he proceeded to make a 10 second playground scene using cut outs he had received with approval from Matt and Trey. • 10. Heeding Literary Omens In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men Preciado 1 Lizeth Preciado Deborah Sidler Pre AP English 9: 2A December 1st, 2017 The Importance of Heeding Literary Omens: Of Mice and Men The novel, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, depicts the unfortunate tale of two men traveling in search of labor. Lennie Small, and George Milton, born and raised in Auburn, settle in Salinas valley making their living as ranch hands. Conflict arises as Lennie struggles to heed George s words and eventually Lennie suffers his downfall at the hand of his best friend. John Steinbeck used foreshadowing in, Of Mice and Men, to express and reveal the sentiments behind characters actions and personalities throughout the novel, demonstrating the importance of foreshadowing to deepen the understanding of major events in a novel. The author utilizes the setting of the book to foreshadow the differences in Lennie and George s characters. Before they are introduced, Steinbeck describes the diverse region of mountains and streams close to George and Lennie s destination. The area is separated by a river with one side harboring, golden foothill slopes [which] curve up to the strong and rocky Gabilan mountains, but on the valley side the water is lined with trees willows fresh and green with every spring, carrying in their lower leaf junctures the debris of the winter s flooding, (Steinbeck 1). Steinbeck uses the contrast in the opposite sides of the river to foreshadow the variation in the mental and physical aspects of his two main ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Media Production Program At Ryerson University Polaroid photographs can be thought of as tangible moments in time. They give off vibes of nostalgia and whimsy. These feelings lead me to incorporate Polaroid s in my personal media artifact. And since I am in the Media Production program at Ryerson University, I found it appropriate to apply what I learned digitally in Photoshop to represent myself in an assemblage of hanging Polaroid s. Corkboards are commonly used for reminders, organizing and possibly posting things we like on them. These elements often come into play when I try to start a project. I often need to plan in advance but even when I try to stay organized, I am scattered much like the board. The texts are what I used to be inspired when I am creating something of my own. And like many aspects in life, the Polaroid s and board have imperfections, but it is these imperfections build character. When hung together they form a tapestry that tells a story of my life. I will now explain part of that story by analyzing three of these texts from my collage by applying key concepts commonly studied in popular culture. Habitus, described by sociologist Pierre Bourdieu is the manifestation of culture through developed habits and predispositions. Habitus can be thought of as the procedural memory one develops when one improves in a sport by practicing it for many years (as cited in Cultural Capital, 2016). This metaphor fits perfectly for something I love to watch and play: hockey. Canada has been the catalyst that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. `` Yes A College Education Is Worth The Cost `` By Rodney... In his essay, Yes a College Education is Worth the Cost, writer Rodney Smith discusses how students of this generation don t care about receiving a great education for the future. Throughout his essay he explains how a college education is worth the cost. He stated that people between the ages of 18 34 say they would much rather get a job and make money than spend money to go back to school to obtain a higher degree. Smith s family grew up in Oklahoma and they viewed education as an investment. Smith was influenced by his father s upbringing and attended college and law school just like his father. By establishing and building his case about how education is worth the cost, uses a great deal of evidence, his argument is well organized, and he gains the audience s attention. Background of the author The organization of Smith argument was well structured. Smith begins his argument by imagining a student getting a worthless degree and realizing that the degree he got won t repay the loan debt (29). He then uses one type of persuasion, logos. He uses logos in the beginning to show the percentages of going and not going to college can affect your future. In addition, the data illustrates the percentage of people who have a certain degree and how much money the degree will earn them (29). After that, he explains thoroughly why college education is worth the money. Smith uses pathos to emotionally connect to his audience when he tells his story about when he was a president at ... • 13. Essay on Little Women Little Women, Louisa May Alcott Book Theme: In the arduous journey from childhood to adulthood, a young woman is faced with two things that need great attention and balance the progress of her individual social standing, and the welfare of her immediate family. Main Conflict: The book does not really follow the traditional single plot line characteristic of many stories (especially during the time it was written). Alcott illustrated the roads the four March girls Amy, Beth, Jo, and Meg take in their lives as they become young women. The storyline includes many mini conflicts, such as Jo s writing, or Beth s illness, or Laurie s inclination to love Jo despite Amy s affections. Generally speaking, the one overlying conflict stands as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How Louisa May Alcott emphasizes on certain aspect of each March girl that sets them apart from the other three is quite intriguing. For the most part, this book seemed more directed at a feminine audience. You d have thought I could figure that out from the title, but I chose the book because of its reputation. Although it was slow and gradual (after all, the story followed the life of these little women), getting through the book was like growing up with the March girls. I like that Jo was a fiery tomboy, that Beth was shy and reserved, that Meg was all knowing and wise, and that Amy was naive and proud. It was even more enjoyable to see them grow into adults that contradicted some of their former ways. Jo for instance, exhibited great change, especially when she burned her old sensationalist stories in Mr. Bhaer s fire. This symbolic event included a step away from Jo s old behavior and towards the life of the woman she was meant to be. I did a little research on the books themes to get some ideas on what Alcott was trying to convey in Little Women. What I found was a little discouraging. Initially, Alcott s priority was to show how young women (more specifically from that time period) had to face two premier choices. Many had to choose between staying and caring for their immediate family, or to move on and pursue their life s interests. Now although the four March girls moved on to better things, ... In the book Blackburn takes a wide ranging, historical approach, discussing lust as viewed by Aristophanes and Plato, lust in the light of the Stoic mistrust of emotion, and the Christian fear of the flesh that catapulted lust to the level of deadly sin. He describes how philosophical pessimists like Schopenhauer and Sartre contributed to our thinking about lust and explores the false starts in understanding lust represented by Freud, Kinsey, and modern evolutionary psychology. The Trojans spent countless years searching for a new home, and finally found Italia. Due to a much earlier grudge, Juno stirs up trouble and plunges the Trojans and Latins into war. The fact that the Trojans are initially peaceful, that King Latinus wishes to ally with the Trojans, and that the rulers who fight the Trojans are tyrants, justifies the Aeneid War. First, the Trojans have not intentionally provoked the rulers of the cities of Italia. When the Trojans arrive, they declare peace and bring gifts to the Latins. • 18. Essay on Authority and American Usage, by David Foster... David Foster Wallace, author of the essay Authority and American Usage*, praises and advocates for good writers who have a strong rhetorical ability, which he defines as the persuasive use of language to influence the thoughts and actions of an audience (Wallace 628). To have a strong rhetorical ability, an author needs to be aware of whom their audience is, in order to present their information in a way that will be influential on their audience. Wallace recognizes that an author who applies a strong rhetorical ability will be able to connect with the audience so that they respond not just to [their] utterance but also to [them] (Wallace 641). What had we done wrong? Our teacher, Mrs. Hetrick, provided the answer to our question: These essays could have easily been generated by a computer program. They tell me nothing about yourselves; why in the world you are telling me all of this? You need to make me care about the message you are conveying, otherwise, your writing is useless. She then told us that while we were all communicating in the proper format, we had failed to take into consideration whom our audience was. In order to truly persuade and influence our audience, we had to do more than place complicated ideas into a grammatically immaculate sentences; we need to show the audience why they should care about our writing; otherwise, they will just lose interest. I realize now that this experience provided a stable foundation for what I consider to be an example of passionate rhetorical ability, which helps me reflect on what authors Wallace deems as good through their rhetorical strategies. The Role of the Noble Lie in the Iliad and the Republic Lie 2 : something that misleads or deceives Noble 5 : possessing, characterized by, or arising from superiority of mind or character or of ideals or morals (Merriam Webster Dictionary) The very thought of a noble lie is contradictory, yet Plato uses it as the basis for stability within his perfect republic. The concept that a lie so deeply ingrained in society will allow it to remain peaceful is generally thought to be unique to Plato. This is because Plato s idea of the noble lie is one that is at the very root of society one that is accepted as a truth. If Achilles had not believed that immortals were more powerful, he would not have attempted to directly influence his mother Thetis a goddess. To preserve the integrity of the lie, Achilles couldn t even exist. His existence is proof that the noble lie is untrue, as he as the offspring of a mortal and immortal, and possesses powers greater than the common mortal. If Achilles did not exist, the Iliad, a story about his wrath and anger, could not exist meaning there would be peace between the Achaeans and Trojans. However, the noble lie within the Iliad still remains; mortals and immortals should not interact. Because Achilles appeals to his mother, the war continues. This book, I feel like, has always understood, that is if books could understand, and I have always had a deep connection with it and its characters. I have read this book several hundred times and it will never ever get old to me. I could read it when I m fifty. This was my favorite book back in the day, and now because of this assignment, I get to read it once more! I will never and can never forget this book. Book one, Coda. This book is split up into four books, and here we will start off with the reading of the first five chapters. Despereaux was the only surviving mouse out of all that were born. He had great big ear for his size, and his eyes were open at birth. He got his name Despereaux for all of the sadness and despair were they live. His parents, along with everyone else in the mouse community did not think he would live, but he did. His brothers and sisters picked on him quite often for his size and for all of his looks. He didn t mind, he never even let it bother him when his mother or father called him a disappointment for his looks or his inability or unwillingness to act like a mouse. His brother, Furlough, took him on a tour of the castle to learn how to be a mouse, but his attempts to teach Despereaux went in one ear and out the other. His sister even tried taking him to the library to learn how to eat paper. But when Despereaux saw the paper he saw ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There were some exceptions to this, but most of Canada s Provincial governments issued some sort of prohibitory laws. The exception being Québec who only prohibited hard liquor, meaning that they allowed the production and consumption of beverages, such as, beer. This drive towards prohibition started during the mid 19th Century. It all started during the Temperance Movement, when proponents voluntarily abstained from alcohol. This abstention was due to alcohol s, perceived, moral downfalls. However, slowly, the various provinces reversed their restrictions on alcohol and moved from prohibition to system of coordination. They used the Temperance Movement as a means to achieve their ultimate goal social salvation. The Temperance Movement was not just about abstaining, or riding the world from alcohol, but it was all about religion. In fact, the movement had a positive correlation with religion; which, meaning that when religious fever increases so does the popularity of the Temperance Movement . In essence, the temperance was a religious, moral, crusade to prepare society for the second coming of the one true savior Jesus Christ. Therefore, this shows that the Temperance Movement was a religious movement as well. The movement went further than just trying to cleanse society from the grips of alcohol. It centered on the health and well being of the family unit. The movement consisted of various different organizations. Two examples of numerous temperance groups are The Bands of Hope of the Sons of Temperance (BHST) and the Women s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU). The BHST for instance encouraged children to abstain from liquor, tobacco, and bad language. This shows that the Temperance Movement wanted to go beyond alcohol reform. It could be argued that all fore mentioned things are immoral, thus they must be abstained from. The reformers also tried to change, or create, a new definition of what it is to be a real man. The proponents of temperance said that real men do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Margaret Sanger Vs Betty Friedan Throughout history, leaders of political and social movements have designed slogans and catchphrases to mobilize ordinary citizens into political and social activists. Historically, activists such as Nelson Mandela, Mohandas Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and countless others have, in their speeches and writings, created a perfect pairing of words that persists in the mind of the listener. Two such activists of the Twentieth Century were Margaret Sanger and Betty Friedan. Friedan and Sanger greatly influenced the women s rights movement; despite both being feminists, however, their personal beliefs in terms of other civil rights movements often fell at opposite ends of the spectrum. Both Friedan and Sanger popularized phrases which empowered their respective followers and similar activists to push back against a system designed to repress them; the phrases that the two activists used, however, reflected their different brands of activism and revealed their differences of opinion on who mattered both for and in the Women s Rights Movement. : Sanger with the phrase birth control and Friedan with the term feminine mystique. Betty Friedan, who lived from 1921 2006, constructed her activism through her writing. She wrote for trade unions and magazines, and later, at the age of 42, published her best known work The Feminine Mystique. However, that fantasy stood no chance when faced with the harsh reality of life. When a myriad of refugees from war torn countries were placed in Clarkston, the townspeople saw their fantasy begin to slip away. Clarkston s residents disliked the influx of refugees because they feared the thought of losing their ideal American town. The citizens were too selfish to live in such a state of liminality as depicted by St. John. Rather than helping their neighbors, the old Clarkston residents maintained their ideology by isolating the refugees and making it nearly impossible for the refugees to survive or have a desirable life in Clarkston. The Clarkston residents were driven by fear of the unknown and were reluctant to accept the refugees. Luma started a youth soccer program, which was aimed toward the refugee children to help the younger generation of refugees fit into the American society and lessen the tensions between the Clarkston residents and the refugees that was evident in her generation of refugees. The Clarkston residents had to accept and become a part of the inevitable change in their community. To begin, the Clarkston townsfolk had to eliminate the isolation between themselves and the refugees and accept the reality of their town changing. The sculpture has movement expressed through the drapery which is used by Bernini in a copious amount of his sculptures and Algardi used this in his bust of Olympia Maidalchini Pamphilj. One of these rights I found was the right of employees to form a union. The act of collective bargaining, be it a labor union, strike, picket, etc., came to a height during the Great Depression. The Great Depression was a significant time in the United States for many reasons. It spurred the formation of labor unions, strikes against banks, and just an overall demand for greater working conditions and employee welfare. Those with an assertive and manipulative personality tends to use that to their own benefit and completely disregard the impact their personality has on the surrounding people and themselves. In Ken Kesey s novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, he expresses the theme of power and manipulation through two characters, Nurse Ratched and McMurphy. Both characters use their manipulative powers for their own advantage in a deceptive way that causes the patients admitted to the asylum to suffer rather than improve. Regarding Miss Ratched, she seems to show signs of passive aggressive behavior throughout the book. This behavior adds to her manipulative ways and contributed to the decrease of the patients progress (mental/physical state). Passive aggressive behavior is used to maintain control and power because it s a way for her to not display any signs of weakness. Miss Ratched, also known as the Big Nurse to the patients, fights hard to remain as the top authority figure in the Ward due to her thirst for power. To maintain the control over the men, she emasculates them, stripping them of their masculinity, in various ways to prevent the chance of an uproar against her. The land on which the school is built holds an abundant amount of archaeological information relevant to the history of Colchester. This data was only briefly reached in 1911 when amateur archaeologist, Henry Jones, was given permission to quickly excavate the site. This came about after century old human remains were discovered during the construction of the original school. From his excavations, Jones concluded that the remains of the three bodies discovered were killed during the Boudiccan Rebellion in 60 61 CE. Due to the circumstances under which Jones performed his excavations, he was not able to produce a stratigraphic section of the site. Jones also failed to keep any written record of his excavations and the remaining artifacts and remains have since been lost. In this particular economy economic decisions and the pricing of goods and services are done by the citizens and businesses of the economy. The market economy is the complete opposite of a command economy. Adam Smith, David Ricardo and Jean Baptiste developed the idea of a market economy in the late 19th early 20th centuries. With a market economy the idea is based off of a supply and demand system with citizens and businesses. With this system there is rarely or ever any government involvement. Almost all governments nowadays have this type of economic system infiltrated in their economy in some way. They will either have a full market economy or they will have a mixed economy which is most common, this is an economy with some government influence but mainly based off citizens and businesses. In my opinion I think there are advantages and disadvantages to this economic system. I ll start with the disadvantages. One of the main disadvantages would be not having a deciding power or having someone in charge to step in when something doesn t make sense or is a bad idea that becomes undecided between citizens and businesses. Another disadvantage is that sometimes too much freedom can be a bad thing, free reign to do what you want can be cool and nice until people start using that freedom in a negative way.
