Effects Of Cigarette Smoking Essay
Is cigarette smoke affecting the environment? Do people have problems from the smokers? Does
cigarette smoking affect the public places? A lot of questions come to mind about cigarette
smoking because cigarette smoking is a serious issue which should be discussed. Anyone can easily
think about the health issues from cigarettesmoking. Everyone knows that cigarette smoking is bad,
and smoking hurts the human body in different ways either smoker or non smoker. A lot of
researches and studies showed that how much cigarette smoking affect human physically and
socially. People should not only think about their health, that is kind of being selfish. People should
look around and try to understand others comfort. Some public places do not seem... Show more

Mostly kids do the same things what they see others doing. Elders are the one where kids learn
from and when kids will see their elders smoking cigarette, then kids would do the same thing.
Like this, public place is the area where teenagers see things every day. Kids adapt the behaviors
mostly from the environment around them. According to the surgeon general of the U.S Public
Health Service, Each day in the United States, 3,800 children under 18 smoke their first
cigarette, and 1,000 others become daily smokers (Culpepper). So, what is the cause of this
smoking behavior? Why do teenagers really want to smoke under the age of 18? Public places
affect the person s behavior and activities. People will try to do the same things what they will see
in the public. (to be continued for final draft)
However, some people think that not allowing smoking in public places is like not allowing
their freedom of choice. According to columnist Dan Hemp, we have the choice of going to any
public place where we feel comfortable (Hemp). People have the choice for everything they
want to do but sometimes people have to compromise at some point. Smokers have choices too,
they can smoke if they want but if they try to avoid some public places for smoking then it can
save hundreds of lives. Smokers can save the environment for kids and elders. So, not allowing
cigarette smoking in public places can be a good sign for nonsmokers and teenagers. Everyone
knows that what smoking

Confucianism In Vietnam Essay
Vietnam makes up a major part of Indochina, a region whose religions, philosophies, art, and
political organizations were dominated by India and China for two millennia (Buttinger 1968). The
region of Indochina retained its identity, despite the ideology of China that led to continual
interference in the region (Luttwak 2012). Indeed, different Chinese dynasties had made continual
efforts to invade and assimilate Vietnamfor around a thousand years before the first central feudal
government was formed in Vietnam in the early 11th century. Even after this period, Vietnam had
to continuously guard against the invasion of Chinese and Mongolian dynasties until the Tay Son
Kingdom defeated the invasion forces of the Qing dynasty in the late 18th... Show more content on

To guard against threats and the risk of assimilation from the Chinese, the Vietnamese had learned
from its northern neighbor to build strong centralized feudal governments along with tireless effort
to maintain friendly relations with China. The feudal government structure was largely borrowed
from China s model in which Confucianism was the main philosophy. A major reason why
Confucianism has become deeply rooted in Vietnam s society was that feudal courts found that it
was a reasonable philosophy to rule (Duiker 1995). To deal with wars or the threat of war, the need
for consolidated and centralized power was prominent. Therefore, there was not much time for
discussion or space for exercising democracy throughout Vietnam s history. The paternalistic style
has been the dominant mode of government in Vietnam. The role of the feudal government mainly
focused on defense and building irrigation systems the backbone of a wet rice economy. All
Vietnamese feudal courts treated China respectfully, and most of them sought recognition from
Chinese courts. After victories in wars with China, Vietnam s feudal courts always sent
ambassadors to China to seek reestablishment of friendly relationships. Furthermore, feudal
governments sometimes sought support from China s feudal courts to act against other external
forces, such

The Grapes Of Wrath And Jacob Lawrence s The Grapes Of Wrath
During the Dust Bowl and Great Depression migration in the United States impacted the nation just
as much as immigration did in the early twentieth century. The Dust Bowl was the time in which
severe dust storms occurred in the South because the ground was so infertile from all the years of
farming on it the wind would blow it away. Along with other agricultural and economic reasons it
was during this time that many Southerners began their migration North in search of work. John
Steinman s, The Grapes of Wrathand Jacob Lawrence s, The Migration Series demonstrate one
characteristic of the American Dream, the pursuit of happiness, through the theme of family both
during times of need and difficult situations.
The mother figures had the job to take care of everyone and make sure the family remained
together and one during their journey. One scene in The Grapes of Wrath the Joad family just
arrived at a camp and Mama Joad was making food when all the kids around her came to see if they
could be fed too. She knew she needed to take care of her family first and made sure that was a
priority. After they were fed she extended her love and care to the children of the camp by offering
them what was left of the remaining food. It was because of her nurturing persona she was able to
find a way to feed the children as well her family. Panel 11 labeled Food had doubled in price
because of the war (68 69) connects to this image of children begging for food. The panel depicts a

The Humanitarian Intervention Since 1990

Word Count: 2077
With reference to one example of a humanitarian intervention since 1990, assess whether it was
humanitarian .
Key:
FRY Former Republic of Yugoslavia On March 23rd 1999, the National Atlantic Treaty
Organisation (NATO) began a three month period under the name Operation Allied Force, which
involved the bombing of the Former Republic of Yugoslavia. Allegedly, the reason for this was to
prevent the ethnic cleansing of Kosovar Albanians in Serbia under Slobodan Milosevic s regime.
NATO itself has provided justifications as to why they intervened in the FRY, with multiple
scholars supporting the reasons given. However there are several scholars who reject the
justifications put forward and believe for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not gaining permission from the UN, fatalities and casualties caused and the environmental
repercussions will be discussed to showcase how the intervention cannot be labelled humanitarian .
NATO s intervention in the FRY is deemed humanitarian due to it being seen as a way to stop any
further human catastrophe (Cohn 2002:80) in Kosovo due to the tensions between the Kosovo
Liberation Army (KLA) and the Yugoslav Military. There was a fear that it would result in the
ethnic cleansing of many Kosovar Albanians under Milosevic s regime. As a result of the war
between the two armies, it had left approximately 1500 Kosovar Albanians dead and over
300,000 had left their homes to hide in the mountains of Kosovo due to the fear of being killed.
(Roberts 1999:112). The huge numbers of Albanians fleeing their homes resonated with a large
proportion of Europe. Because of this, NATO had made it clear that they were going to try and
bring the Albanian refugees
9823942 POLI10601 back to their homes and had promised to do so. (IICK 2008:89). As NATO
was intervening due to their attempt to save Kosovar Albanians, many see this as being a
humanitarian justification because they were trying to protect lives and stop the destruction caused
by the ethnic cleansing of Albanians under Milosevic. There seems to be the belief that an
intervention can be deemed humanitarian if it attempts to save the lives of others,

John Fitzgerald Kennedy s Politics And World Affairs
John Fitzgerald Kennedy, nicknamed Jack, was born on May 29, 1917. He was the second of 9
to be born to Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy and Joseph Kennedy Jr. While Jack was at Harvard in
1937, his father became the United States Ambassador to England. That sparked Jack s interest
in politics and world affairs. From then on, he strived to learn more about government and
current events. When Jack was a senior at Harvard, WWII began. He wrote a thesis about why
Great Britain was not ready for the war with Germany, which went on to be published as a book
called Why England Slept. Jack s career in politics, though, began after college in 1946 when he

One of Kennedy s accomplishments was the creation of the Peace Corps on March 1, 1961.
During his presidential campaign, Kennedy gave a speech at the University of Michigan in Ann
Arbor to a crowd of 10,000. In his speech, he asked how many of the aspiring doctors,
technicians, and/or engineers would be willing to work in the Foreign Service and travel the
world. After the speech, 1,000 students wanting to live and work abroad signed a petition
saying such. This event was the inspiration for the Peace Corps. Kennedy spoke of a peace corps
of talented men and women who would dedicate themselves to the progress and peace of
developing countries two weeks later in a speech at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. A
response of more than 25,000 letters encouraged Kennedy to make the Peace Corps a reality.
When Kennedy became president, he decided he wanted to put his brother in law, R. Sargent
Shriver, as the director of a Peace Corps Task Force to organize it and get everything together.
Shriver did so by creating seven steps to follow in forming the Peace Corps in February of 1961.
During the first trip after the Peace Corps was established, leaders from India, Ghana, and Burma

Essay On Hyperthermia
Many people have an understanding of what hyperthermia is and the reasons it may occur in an
individual. Hyperthermia occurs when the body s core temperature reaches between 37 38В°C
due an inability to dissipate heat. In most cases, the occurrence of hyperthermia can be credited to
a known reason. Examples include being outside in extremely hot temperatures without any
cooling mechanism or vigorous exercise in extreme heat causing the body s temperature to rise.
Hyperthermia is determined by an increase in core temperature at a rate of 1 2В°C every five
minutes (2, 11). However, in certain individuals, the use of general anesthesia can cause individuals
to suffer from an inherited disorder known as malignant hyperthermia. When malignant
hyperthermia is triggered, individuals are at risk of hypoxemia, metabolic acidosis,
rhabdomyolysis and a quick rise in the person s body temperature... Show more content on

The increase in metabolic activity occurs in response to inhalational anesthetics and depolarizing
muscle relaxers, such as succinylcholine, and causes individuals to suffer from muscle rigidity,
hyperthermia, and tissue damage (1, 2). This is an inherited disorder found in humans and swine. If
treatment is not initiated quickly, the individual may die from ventricular fibrillation or, if the
situation is extended, the patient may die from renal failure (1). For treatment, patients are given
dantrolene, a muscle relaxer that prevents the release of calcium. Once dantrolene was widely used
as a treatment for malignant hyperthermia, the mortality rate from the disorder dropped from more
than 80% to less than 7% (1, 5, 6). Overall, the rate at which malignant hyperthermia occurs is
between 1:5,000 and 1:75,000 (2). While the physical results of malignant hyperthermia are known,
the physiological and genetic reasons for the disorder are starting to be

1.Introduction
The 2008 Global Financial Crisis (GFC) and its aftermath had critically damaged the world
economy with a drag in global economic growth. Indubitably, the imprudence in which banks
managed their risks and capital holdings were among reasons that caused the crisis. It raised the
need for industry reform, leading to G20 s Basel III proposal in 2010 to strengthen the global
capital framework by imposing stricter rules regarding capital and liquidity requirements, as well as
a focus on transparency, consistency and quality. 2.Regulatory Framework

Texas Textbook Controversy
Texas textbook controversy Analysis
Kim Stevenson

March 3, 2013
Abstract:
Ever since the 1960s, the Texas textbook controversy has had an issue in America. The Texasschool
board is meeting to make revisions to their textbooks and curriculum. But are they also revising
history? Educators across the country are watching to see the effect this issue will have on students.
The choices the board members are making will affect politics, religion, monies spent thru out the
Texas school system. Christian conservatives on the state education board want curriculum
changes. Parents and student would like the curriculum to remain the same, or not ... Show more

All of which plus a natural supply of political eccentrics helps explain how Texas once had a board
member who believed that public schools are the tool of the devil.
Texas originally acquired its power over the nation s textbook supply because it paid 100 percent
of the cost of all public school textbooks, as long as the books in question came from a very short
list of board approved options. The selection process was grueling and tension filled, said Julie
McGee, who worked at high levels in several publishing houses before her retirement. If you
didn t get listed by the state, you got nothing. On the other side of the coin, David Anderson, who
once sold textbooks in the state, said that if a book made the list, even a fairly mediocre
salesperson could count on doing pretty well. The books on the Texas list were likely to be mass
produced by the publisher in anticipation of those sales, so other states liked to buy them and take
advantage of the economies of scale.
What happens in Texas doesn t stay in Texas when it comes to textbooks, said Dan Quinn, who
worked as an editor of social studies textbooks before joining the Texas Freedom Network, which
was founded by Governor Ann Richards s daughter, Cecile, to counter the religious right.
The cost for the Texas textbooks?
As a market, the state was so big and influential that national publishers tended to gear their books
toward whatever it wanted. Back in

Imperialism, Militarism, And The Allied System
I will define each imperialism, nationalism, militarism, and the allied system. Then I will rank them
in order as the start of the World War I goes.
Imperialism To impose your culture, power and government on an inferior country, a policy of
extending a country s power and influence through diplomacy or military force:
Nationalism To take pride in your own country, a patriotic feeling, efforts and principals
Militarism the belief or desire of a government or people that a country should keep a strong
military capability and be prepared to use it aggressively to defend or promote national interests.
Allied system alliance system was one of the main causes of World War I. The alliance system was
made up of two groups, the Central powers (Germany, Austria Hungary, Italy (1914), the Ottoman
Empire). The second group was the Allied powers (Russia, France, Great Britain, and United States
). The alliance system is when countries join forces or worked together ... Show more content on

Literature Review On Fascism
Literature Review
1. Walter laquer in his book Fascism discusses fascism and defines it clearly. In his book he
described what sociology is and how it worked during that time. It talks about its poetical and
social views. It gives information on Mussolini in an objective format and describes fascism s gain
in popularity and power. It mainly concentrates on what fascism is and how to define it. It talks
about the good points of it and the high ideals that it first had before it became a corrupt quest for
power over the people it was supposed to help. It also tells how it was supposed to make all
workers equal and how it went wrong by corrupt officials.
2. Eco Umberto in his article shows today s fascism or Ur Fascism in many ways. It offers many
new ideas about fascism and how it is tied to nationalism and selective populism. It offers deeper
meaning in explaining fascism other than simple contempt for others . This site shows that
fascism is faceted so that it has many different levels of oppression. It helps to understand why
fascism is so object able. It also has links to other fascism sites.

Wilhelm Reich in his book The Mass Psychology of Fascism described that Fascism appealed to
the large masses of the poor and working class in the early to mid twentieth century. They
enjoyed the ideals becoming equal and the elimination of unemployment by the use of
government work camps, and the idea that their ethnic group was the best and that all others
were inferior. Also the public was brainwashed by the elimination of all other political parties.
Education was also changed to favor fascism by censoring in schools and widespread
propaganda. It also talks about how fascism was easily accepted by the Germans. The Germans
already had a high sense of nationality and morality. Fascism took many of the basic beliefs that
were held by the Germans and Italians and used them to bring popularity to the Fascist

David Foster Wallace On Language Essay
David Foster Wallace s essay regarding language and the usage of the English language in America
captured my attention from the beginning. Through several gasps of humor and wording geared
toward an audience of intellectual scholars, Wallace s stance on language was raw and honest
nothing was held back that he thought important.
Wallace s tone throughout the piece is one of distinct uniqueness as he emphasizes his points by
disputing others , which I found amusing and entertaining. My favorite example of Wallace s
utilization of this aspect was his argument against Philip Gove s introduction to Webster s Third. In
the introduction, Gove outlined five basic edicts about language and usage. When I read Gove s

This technique gave me a feeling as if I were engaged in a sociable conversation with a close
friend. Although he uses words and phrases many lesser educated persons would call hard to
understand, he also uses humor and the occasional informal phrase. For example, while
discussing introductory essays in dictionaries, Wallace referenced something I personally related
to, even though he was not doing so in a serious manner. His short comment that almost nobody
ever bothers with these little intros, and it s not just their six point type or the fact that
dictionaries tend to be hard on the lap, (Wallace 78) Wallace was able to make me laugh and put
myself into the situation Wallace was referring to. Admittedly, there have been instances where I
have skipped sections of text because the size of the type was smaller than the rest of the book.
When Wallace referenced this, it made me realize that he was a person just like me, not just a godly
author writing for a miniscule paycheck with little to no connection to everyday persons. In addition
to this prime example, Wallace continuously incorporated small spurts of general humor, such as
the founders of the Super 8 Motel chain must surely have been ignorant of the meaning of

Fiscal Policy And Trade Openness On Unemployment Essay
AHMED SALIM NUHU On The Impact of Fiscal Policy and Trade Openness on Unemployment in
Namibia 1.Introduction Unemployment remains a fundamental challenge for policy makers around
the globe as it simultaneously increases poverty and threatens social stability within a country
(Goker, 2013). Even though the literature recognizes the critical role fiscal policy plays in
mitigating unemployment and stabilizing the economy (Auerbach, Gale, and Harris, 2010), the
extent to which it works effectively to achieve this remains an issue of debate amongst economists
(Coate and Battaglini, 2011). However, the massive use of fiscal policy tools by governments in the
wake of the 2008 financial crisis has, ignited a renewed interest in examining the role of fiscal
policy in promoting growth and employment (Feldstein, 2009). A cursory survey at the literature
however, reveals a lack of consensus on the fiscal policy unemployment debate. For example, using
a dynamic stochastic general equilibrium model with search and matching frictions, Gomes (2010)
found mixed responses of unemployment to different fiscal shocks. Bruckner and Pappa (2012)
found that an increase in government consumption expenditure usually causes higher
unemployment whilst Fatas and Mihov (2001) in their study of the United States economy and
more recently, Unal, (2015) in his study of the Netherlands economy and, found that higher
government consumption was an incentive for increases in employment. These heterogeneous

It is no surprise that obesity is rapidly taking over our beautiful country by the thousands. The

food on a daily basis. A majority of these fast food joints carry chicken sandwiches. They have
been a staple menu item for years. Without a doubt, Chick Fil A has the most delicious fried

mouthwatering goodness each time they visit a restaurant. Between the quality, temperature, and

Differently, in color films, completely different and more complex techniques are required in
order to achieve complete artistic control. Historically, in order to film movies in color, directors

The World s First Debate On Morality
In 11th Century, The Spanish Empire sent men to conquer the Americas and they discovered
natives in the area. As a result of their interactions with the natives, a debate as to how they
should treat or interact with the natives got to a boiling point, and was settled in a debate in
Valladolid in 1550, with two men defending either side of the world s first debate on morality.
One of these men was BartolomГ© de las Casas, a Dominican Catholic friar who spent some time
with the American Natives, and debated to defend them against any harsh rule or handling by the
hands of the Spanish. On the other end was Juan GinГ©s de SepГєlveda, an Aristotelian
philosopher, argued for the enslavement of these natives due to the superiority of the Spanish over
them. They both held strong convictions about their arguments, however Las Casas argument was
made more effectively because he was more rational in his argument. Alternatively, SepГєlveda
chose an exaggerated appeal to emotions as his approach for the argument he was making.
SepГєlveda appeals to emotion in a variety of ways one of them being exaggerated language. In
the beginning of his Treatise on the Just Causes of War against the Indians , he asked, what
moderation or mildness can you expect of men who are given to all kinds of intemperance and

Creation Myths In Hindu Religion
Our myth is a Hindu creation myth, titled In the Beginning and Forever was the One, the Absolute,
Iswara . In this myth, there is a multitude of mini creation myths, from the one and only Iswara, to
Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. All of these mini myths center in on the central idea that everything
has come from the one (Iswara) and will return to it, including Brahma s sleeping and waking
cycles, in which the world is either materialized or absorbed back into Iswara, completing the cycle
every time Brahma sleeps and wakes.
This specific creation myth is one out of many from the Hindu religion, and is told in many

Tibial Plateau Fracture With Rehab
A tibial plateau fracture is a break in the top of the bone that forms the bottom of the knee joint

The need to make a work such as Fuente Ovejuna accessible to modern audiences is apparent in

Victorian Schools In Victorian England
In Victorian England, children did not have much of an education, they were mostly just taught
how to read. Many poor children worked instead of going to school. Richer families could afford
school fees but wealthy girls were usually taught at home by a governess, and the boys attended
good schools like grammar schools. Some schools had spots for poor boys that could attend for
free. There weren t very many schools for children to go to anyway. The biggest issue to me was
that poor girls did not have an educationat all.
In 1780, Robert Raikes taught children in Sunday school how to read so they could read the bible .
Another man, John Pounds would have kids come play with his disabled nephew (Picard, Liza).
Once he realized he had 30 or 40 kids he started a class, and taught the kids to read the bible
because [it was the only book easy to access] (Picard, Liza). The idea of this class spread to
London so they had even more schools and classes, by 1861 they were teaching more than 40,000
children (Picard, Liza). They had many different schools systems. There were church schools who
mostly taught elementary children, and they had a system where the children who knew the most
and was the brightest taught the other children, which those other children would do the same and
it would just go on. Eventually that system was replaced with actual teachers. Now the education
for girls was basically nonexistent, everyone thought girls would grow up and get married to a man,

Analysis Of Saint Thomas Aquinas Third Way Essay
1.)Introduction
In analyzing Saint Thomas Aquinas s Third Way I will first identify the structure of the argument
and then I will define some terms that are vital in understanding the argument. Next I will state the
premises and conclusion of his argument in my own words. Then I will identify an objection to
premise one and finally I will attempt to articulate a rebuttal to that objection.
St. Thomas Aquinas Third Way is a reductio ad absurdum argument. The structure of the modal
cosmological argument first identifies a certain proposition and then disproves that proposition by
showing an absurdity to which it leads when carried to its logical conclusion. St. Thomas uses three
terms in his argument that are important to clarify:
Possible: a statement that could happen regardless of how ridiculous it sounds.
Necessity: that which must be actual
Contingent: something which is possibly true or possibly false
2. Aquinas s Third Way
1.We find in nature some things that are contingent.
2.If there are things which are contingent then such things have not always been in existence
3.If everything is contingent then at one time there was nothing in existence.
4.If there was nothing in existence then there is nothing in existence now.
5.Such a statement is absurd because some things now exist.
6.Therefore, there must be something which exists out of necessity, namely God.

Blessed John Duns Scotus states an objection to St. Thomas

significant geographic barriers, the western U.S. has historically had much smaller and more

C. diabolis falling out most recently some 0.5 MYA. The speciation is believed to be allopatric,

this uncertainty is that the cavern that C. diabolis currently inhabits, Devil s Hole, only opened
to the surface around 60,000 years ago (Martin et al. 2016). It is possible that there was some
degree of sympatric speciation happening before a colonization event occurred or, because
mtDNA was used to determine divergence times, C. nevadensis could have been polymorphic
for mtDNA before the cavern opened and was subsequently colonized (Echelle 2008). So how
did the allopatric speciation of the Death Valley pupfish occur? Was it the result of dispersal or
vicariance? When we examine figure 2 closely, we see that although the Pleistocene lakes in the
Death Valley region were extensive, they still might not have connected all of the waterways. In
addition, this map shows a summary of the lakes, that is to say that all of them did not exist at the
same time (Knott et al. 2008). Limited connectivity of waterways as well as the late colonization
and subsequent speciation of C. diabolis are potentially evidence against the hypothesis for
speciation through vicariance. On the other hand, pupfish are notoriously very poor dispersers.

Argumentative Essay On The Super Bowl
Sports are integrated into people s lives. They have a great influence on human society, not only
for people s health but also for cultural development. Different countries like and are good at
different sports. For example, when people hear about China, people will think of ping pong.
When people hear about Brazil, people will think of soccer. Currently, the United States is the most
powerful country in the world. What type of sports are the Americans good at or like? It must be
the American football. In the United States, what professional American football event is the
most watched? People have to say that it must be The Super Bowl. The Super Bowl is so really
popular in America that the Sunday of The Super Bowl has become compared to a national
festival. Every single year, lots of popular singers and musicians give people a big show during
the halftime of the game. Thanksgiving day is the first largest food consumption day in the United
States, and which day is the second? Of course be The Super Bowl Sunday. (TicketCity). The
Super Bowl has a great impact on many aspects of Americans.
What is The Super Bowl? The Super Bowl is the championship football game played annually
between the AFC and NFC division champions of the NFL. In 1970, the National Football League
and the American Football League officially announced the merger, but they think the two single
league champions should have a match which can decide who is the world football champion, so
they established

Year 11 Changing Perspectives Essay ( Looking for...
Personal Growth Practise Essay The process of changing perspectives inevitably contributes to
personal growth. Analyse how this idea has been represented in your prescribed text, Looking
for Alibrandi , and one related text of your choosing. As individuals, when faced with gruelling or
traumatic experiences, we are often compelled to feel a sense of loneliness and seclusion.
However, it is precisely these times of isolation, through reflection and a willingness to embrace
the situation that can force us to reconsider the original outlooks we hold, often resulting in a
greater appreciation for life and a deeper understanding of who we truly are. This idea is clearly
communicated in the feature film Looking for Alibrandi (1999)... Show more content on

A close up camera shot of Josie s languishing facial expression as John s body passes by, suggests
the inner emotional turmoil she is experiencing, yet simultaneously the passing coffin signifies
her acceptance of him slowly moving away from her, out of her life. The idea of her acceptance
of John s death is further reinforced at the end of the scene through Woods use of symbolism.
The subsequent shredding of his letter, followed by the release of the pieces out of the window
symbolically serve to represent her letting go as well as allowing John the freedom that he has
always longed for. Josie s feelings of isolation and separation following John s death are captured
during the bus ride scene where a closeup camera shot of Josie s facial expression is juxtaposed to
that of a group of laughing boys, totally oblivious to the inner turmoil that she faces. It isn t until
towards the end of Winton s novel that Pikelet is confronted with the spontaneous death of his
father, a significant catalyst that simultaneously compels him to irrevocably reconsider the
importance of family; suddenly being left with only a mother, and helps him to develop a greater
appreciation for life by understanding the instantaneous nature of death My father s death hit me
with a force that seemed targeted and personal. The metaphorical portrayal of death here, clearly
communicates the severity of the impact on

For instance, in 2013 June, the company was forced to recall its Azera cars that had been
manufactured in 2012 due to occupant detection system problems. This system was unable to detect
whether the front passenger seat was occupied by an adult or a child, hence creating high risk of
injury.
In the same respect, the company recalled 1,059,824 vehicles and SUVs in 2013 and this mainly
affected its models that had been released between 2007 and 2011 due to repair problems that
raised the risk of crashing. The company also recalled 186,254 Elantra vehicles manufactured
between 2011 and 2013 within the same year.
Moreover, following the findings of a research conducted by the Environmental Protection

A lot of questions come to mind about cigarette smoking because cigarette smoking is a serious issue which should be discussed. Anyone can easily think about the health issues from cigarettesmoking. Everyone knows that cigarette smoking is bad, and smoking hurts the human body in different ways either smoker or non smoker. Elders are the one where kids learn from and when kids will see their elders smoking cigarette, then kids would do the same thing. Like this, public place is the area where teenagers see things every day. Kids adapt the behaviors mostly from the environment around them. According to the surgeon general of the U.S Public Health Service, Each day in the United States, 3,800 children under 18 smoke their first cigarette, and 1,000 others become daily smokers (Culpepper). So, what is the cause of this smoking behavior? Why do teenagers really want to smoke under the age of 18? Public places affect the person s behavior and activities. People will try to do the same things what they will see in the public. (to be continued for final draft) However, some people think that not allowing smoking in public places is like not allowing their freedom of choice. According to columnist Dan Hemp, we have the choice of going to any public place where we feel comfortable (Hemp). People have the choice for everything they want to do but sometimes people have to compromise at some point. Smokers have choices too, they can smoke if they want but if they try to avoid some public places for smoking then it can save hundreds of lives. Smokers can save the environment for kids and elders. So, not allowing cigarette smoking in public places can be a good sign for nonsmokers and teenagers. Everyone knows that what smoking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Confucianism In Vietnam Essay Vietnam makes up a major part of Indochina, a region whose religions, philosophies, art, and political organizations were dominated by India and China for two millennia (Buttinger 1968). The region of Indochina retained its identity, despite the ideology of China that led to continual interference in the region (Luttwak 2012). Indeed, different Chinese dynasties had made continual efforts to invade and assimilate Vietnamfor around a thousand years before the first central feudal government was formed in Vietnam in the early 11th century. Even after this period, Vietnam had to continuously guard against the invasion of Chinese and Mongolian dynasties until the Tay Son Kingdom defeated the invasion forces of the Qing dynasty in the late 18th... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To guard against threats and the risk of assimilation from the Chinese, the Vietnamese had learned from its northern neighbor to build strong centralized feudal governments along with tireless effort to maintain friendly relations with China. The feudal government structure was largely borrowed from China s model in which Confucianism was the main philosophy. A major reason why Confucianism has become deeply rooted in Vietnam s society was that feudal courts found that it was a reasonable philosophy to rule (Duiker 1995). To deal with wars or the threat of war, the need for consolidated and centralized power was prominent. Therefore, there was not much time for discussion or space for exercising democracy throughout Vietnam s history. The paternalistic style has been the dominant mode of government in Vietnam. The role of the feudal government mainly focused on defense and building irrigation systems the backbone of a wet rice economy. All Vietnamese feudal courts treated China respectfully, and most of them sought recognition from Chinese courts. After victories in wars with China, Vietnam s feudal courts always sent ambassadors to China to seek reestablishment of friendly relationships. Furthermore, feudal governments sometimes sought support from China s feudal courts to act against other external forces, such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Grapes Of Wrath And Jacob Lawrence s The Grapes Of Wrath During the Dust Bowl and Great Depression migration in the United States impacted the nation just as much as immigration did in the early twentieth century. The Dust Bowl was the time in which severe dust storms occurred in the South because the ground was so infertile from all the years of farming on it the wind would blow it away. Along with other agricultural and economic reasons it was during this time that many Southerners began their migration North in search of work. John Steinman s, The Grapes of Wrathand Jacob Lawrence s, The Migration Series demonstrate one characteristic of the American Dream, the pursuit of happiness, through the theme of family both during times of need and difficult situations. The mother figures had the job to take care of everyone and make sure the family remained together and one during their journey. One scene in The Grapes of Wrath the Joad family just arrived at a camp and Mama Joad was making food when all the kids around her came to see if they could be fed too. She knew she needed to take care of her family first and made sure that was a priority. After they were fed she extended her love and care to the children of the camp by offering them what was left of the remaining food. It was because of her nurturing persona she was able to find a way to feed the children as well her family. Allegedly, the reason for this was to prevent the ethnic cleansing of Kosovar Albanians in Serbia under Slobodan Milosevic s regime. Not gaining permission from the UN, fatalities and casualties caused and the environmental repercussions will be discussed to showcase how the intervention cannot be labelled humanitarian . NATO s intervention in the FRY is deemed humanitarian due to it being seen as a way to stop any further human catastrophe (Cohn 2002:80) in Kosovo due to the tensions between the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) and the Yugoslav Military. There was a fear that it would result in the ethnic cleansing of many Kosovar Albanians under Milosevic s regime. As a result of the war between the two armies, it had left approximately 1500 Kosovar Albanians dead and over 300,000 had left their homes to hide in the mountains of Kosovo due to the fear of being killed. (Roberts 1999:112). The huge numbers of Albanians fleeing their homes resonated with a large proportion of Europe. Because of this, NATO had made it clear that they were going to try and bring the Albanian refugees 9823942 POLI10601 back to their homes and had promised to do so. (IICK 2008:89). As NATO was intervening due to their attempt to save Kosovar Albanians, many see this as being a humanitarian justification because they were trying to protect lives and stop the destruction caused by the ethnic cleansing of Albanians under Milosevic. • 13. Essay On Hyperthermia Many people have an understanding of what hyperthermia is and the reasons it may occur in an individual. Hyperthermia occurs when the body s core temperature reaches between 37 38В°C due an inability to dissipate heat. In most cases, the occurrence of hyperthermia can be credited to a known reason. Examples include being outside in extremely hot temperatures without any cooling mechanism or vigorous exercise in extreme heat causing the body s temperature to rise. Hyperthermia is determined by an increase in core temperature at a rate of 1 2В°C every five minutes (2, 11). However, in certain individuals, the use of general anesthesia can cause individuals to suffer from an inherited disorder known as malignant hyperthermia. All of which plus a natural supply of political eccentrics helps explain how Texas once had a board member who believed that public schools are the tool of the devil. Texas originally acquired its power over the nation s textbook supply because it paid 100 percent of the cost of all public school textbooks, as long as the books in question came from a very short list of board approved options. The selection process was grueling and tension filled, said Julie McGee, who worked at high levels in several publishing houses before her retirement. If you didn t get listed by the state, you got nothing. On the other side of the coin, David Anderson, who once sold textbooks in the state, said that if a book made the list, even a fairly mediocre salesperson could count on doing pretty well. The books on the Texas list were likely to be mass produced by the publisher in anticipation of those sales, so other states liked to buy them and take advantage of the economies of scale. What happens in Texas doesn t stay in Texas when it comes to textbooks, said Dan Quinn, who worked as an editor of social studies textbooks before joining the Texas Freedom Network, which was founded by Governor Ann Richards s daughter, Cecile, to counter the religious right. • 27. Fiscal Policy And Trade Openness On Unemployment Essay AHMED SALIM NUHU On The Impact of Fiscal Policy and Trade Openness on Unemployment in Namibia 1.Introduction Unemployment remains a fundamental challenge for policy makers around the globe as it simultaneously increases poverty and threatens social stability within a country (Goker, 2013). Even though the literature recognizes the critical role fiscal policy plays in mitigating unemployment and stabilizing the economy (Auerbach, Gale, and Harris, 2010), the extent to which it works effectively to achieve this remains an issue of debate amongst economists (Coate and Battaglini, 2011). However, the massive use of fiscal policy tools by governments in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis has, ignited a renewed interest in examining the role of fiscal policy in promoting growth and employment (Feldstein, 2009). A cursory survey at the literature however, reveals a lack of consensus on the fiscal policy unemployment debate. For example, using a dynamic stochastic general equilibrium model with search and matching frictions, Gomes (2010) found mixed responses of unemployment to different fiscal shocks. Bruckner and Pappa (2012) found that an increase in government consumption expenditure usually causes higher unemployment whilst Fatas and Mihov (2001) in their study of the United States economy and more recently, Unal, (2015) in his study of the Netherlands economy and, found that higher government consumption was an incentive for increases in employment. • 30. The World s First Debate On Morality In 11th Century, The Spanish Empire sent men to conquer the Americas and they discovered natives in the area. As a result of their interactions with the natives, a debate as to how they should treat or interact with the natives got to a boiling point, and was settled in a debate in Valladolid in 1550, with two men defending either side of the world s first debate on morality. One of these men was BartolomГ© de las Casas, a Dominican Catholic friar who spent some time with the American Natives, and debated to defend them against any harsh rule or handling by the hands of the Spanish. On the other end was Juan GinГ©s de SepГєlveda, an Aristotelian philosopher, argued for the enslavement of these natives due to the superiority of the Spanish over them. They both held strong convictions about their arguments, however Las Casas argument was made more effectively because he was more rational in his argument. • 36. Victorian Schools In Victorian England In Victorian England, children did not have much of an education, they were mostly just taught how to read. Many poor children worked instead of going to school. Richer families could afford school fees but wealthy girls were usually taught at home by a governess, and the boys attended good schools like grammar schools. Some schools had spots for poor boys that could attend for free. There weren t very many schools for children to go to anyway. The biggest issue to me was that poor girls did not have an educationat all. In 1780, Robert Raikes taught children in Sunday school how to read so they could read the bible . Another man, John Pounds would have kids come play with his disabled nephew (Picard, Liza). Once he realized he had 30 or 40 kids he started a class, and taught the kids to read the bible because [it was the only book easy to access] (Picard, Liza). The idea of this class spread to London so they had even more schools and classes, by 1861 they were teaching more than 40,000 children (Picard, Liza). They had many different schools systems. There were church schools who mostly taught elementary children, and they had a system where the children who knew the most and was the brightest taught the other children, which those other children would do the same and it would just go on. Eventually that system was replaced with actual teachers. Now the education for girls was basically nonexistent, everyone thought girls would grow up and get married to a man, ... • 37. Analysis Of Saint Thomas Aquinas Third Way Essay 1.)Introduction In analyzing Saint Thomas Aquinas s Third Way I will first identify the structure of the argument and then I will define some terms that are vital in understanding the argument. Next I will state the premises and conclusion of his argument in my own words. Then I will identify an objection to premise one and finally I will attempt to articulate a rebuttal to that objection. St. Thomas Aquinas Third Way is a reductio ad absurdum argument. The structure of the modal cosmological argument first identifies a certain proposition and then disproves that proposition by showing an absurdity to which it leads when carried to its logical conclusion. St. Thomas uses three terms in his argument that are important to clarify: Possible: a statement that could happen regardless of how ridiculous it sounds. Necessity: that which must be actual Contingent: something which is possibly true or possibly false 2. Aquinas s Third Way 1.We find in nature some things that are contingent. 2.If there are things which are contingent then such things have not always been in existence 3.If everything is contingent then at one time there was nothing in existence. 4.If there was nothing in existence then there is nothing in existence now. 5.Such a statement is absurd because some things now exist. 6.Therefore, there must be something which exists out of necessity, namely God. 3. The speciation is believed to be allopatric, but there is still some uncertainty regarding C. diabolis (Duvernell Turner 1998). The reason for this uncertainty is that the cavern that C. diabolis currently inhabits, Devil s Hole, only opened to the surface around 60,000 years ago (Martin et al. 2016). It is possible that there was some degree of sympatric speciation happening before a colonization event occurred or, because mtDNA was used to determine divergence times, C. nevadensis could have been polymorphic for mtDNA before the cavern opened and was subsequently colonized (Echelle 2008). So how did the allopatric speciation of the Death Valley pupfish occur? Was it the result of dispersal or vicariance? When we examine figure 2 closely, we see that although the Pleistocene lakes in the Death Valley region were extensive, they still might not have connected all of the waterways. In addition, this map shows a summary of the lakes, that is to say that all of them did not exist at the same time (Knott et al. 2008). Limited connectivity of waterways as well as the late colonization and subsequent speciation of C. diabolis are potentially evidence against the hypothesis for speciation through vicariance. On the other hand, pupfish are notoriously very poor dispersers. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
