Gemini-Scout Essay
Robots do all types of things with all sorts of purposes. In this case, this robot helps people
underground. It can go up and down stairs and even carry food and water, or supplies needed, easily. It
isn t that tall, it is only two feet tall! This robot is called, Gemini Scout, invented by Scientist Barbara
Mckenley. She runs into a predicament after she tests it out in the mining site, but fixes it a month
later. Mckenley always wanted to create a robot that was helpful to everyday activity in some way, so
she invented Gemini Scout which helps miners underground. Barbara Mckenley invented Gemini
Scout in the summer of 2014. All Mckenley s life she loved engineering, and creating things,
especially little robots. Her parents didn t really support her doing engineering because they had
always said, Why can t you find something else to do. But she didn t care what they thought. She
always told them, I don t care! I love it, and that is what matters! Why can t you guys just be
supportive? She constantly told them. She was only 24 at the time, excelling in all her former schools
and that is how she finished college successfully with her Robotics Engineering degree since she
loved it all her life. Now, in the summer of 2014, she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She decided to test out the built in wheels, which she thought she had built well. Everything else had
been working just fine, so she didn t have any doubt that the wheels wouldn t work. As Mckenley
arrived with Gemini of course, she turned him on with the remote control, and first she tested his
ability to carry food and water and other supplies easily, and that was a success! Then she tested the
ability that she was hoping the best to work because that is how he actually maneuvers around the
mining site. Anyways, she tested him to go down, and then something happened to one of his wheels,
as he was moving down. His wheel popped!

Role Of The Executive Officer Of The Chief Officer
The role of business in society is multifaceted in that there is an obligation to its shareholders, its
clients and its employees. In the instance of Margin Call by J.C Chandor, a wide range of justifications
revealed by the upper management level of an investment firm evinces the core values of the firm.
Once it is revealed that there is a high probability of the firm being the devalued beyond market
capitalization, the firm and its division heads attempt to find a solution to the imminent crisis.
Although there is some dissent from Sam Rogers, Head of Sales and Trading, CEO Tuld promptly
decides to liquidate the firm s toxic assets onto the market. However, there is much internal tension
between the chief officers in that they individually represent different predicaments. In the end,
Margin Call illustrates conviction that the role of business is to engender a certain type of lifestyle for
the society through the executives justifications and interactions with others.
In the first scene of Margin Call, there is a massive unannounced layoff for about 80% of the trading
floor in the investment firm. Though Eric Dale has worked in risk management for many years, the
firm s decline in profits requires that it downsize in order to survive. Will, Head of Trading, tells the
risk analysts to carry on with their jobs despite having most of their co workers laid off, but he also
jadedly asks if it s the first layoff the analysts have seen. Will is nonchalant about the layoff as

How Did Ruth Bader Ginsberg Impact Society
Throughout time, many individuals have stood up and fought for what they believed in. Many have
impacted society, but the most important ones are the people who took charge and lead others to
accomplish what seemed impossible. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg has impacted
American society by being a superb role model. Ruth Bader has demonstrated her idol stance by
proving women could also excel as much as men can academically. When Ginsberg went to Cornell
University in 1954, She earned her bachelor s degree in government as well as finishing first in her
class. according to the article titled Biography: Ruth Bader Ginsberg 1933 . Outclassing others as a
female, proves that hard work and effort outshines society s gender role stereotypes. Ginsberg has also

Environment encouraging the industrial growth is missing in the picture. The manufacturing sector in
Nepal is small contributing 8% of its share to the total G.D.P. It consists mainly of small industries.
Capital goods industries are few in number. Most of the sectors manufacture food even though the
structure is changing. This sector consists of five sub sectors namely a. Food, Beverage and Tobacco
b. Textile and garment c. Chemical d. Mechanical Engineering e. Electrical and Electronics The
production growth has been significant in paper, food, footwear, iron and steel, beverage and chemical

be raised by two sources i.e. Equity Capital and Debt Capital. These two sources of capital comprise
the total capital structure. Capital Structure refers to the composition of all source and amount of funds
collected to use or invest in business. In other words Capital structure refers to the capital and long
term liabilities of balance sheet. Therefore, it includes shareholder s fund and long term loans. It is
different from financial structure as financial structure includes both long term and short term source
of financing while capital structure includes only long term source of financing. Thus, a firm s capital
structure is only a part of its financial structure.

Transformation Of Urban Life During The Gilded Age And The...
Topic 3: The Transformation of Urban Life in the Gilded Age and the Development of Suburbs for the
American Middle Classes
This historical study will define the increased economy prosperity of the Gilded Age and the
development of suburban planning in the American middle classes. During the late 19th century, the
massive growth of the American economy was dominantly formed in urban industrial centers, yet the
wealth generated from the upper and middle classes allowed them to move out into rural areas near
major cities. More so, the development of public transportation, such a trolleys and trains, helped the
middle classes to plan suburban housing to escape the overpopulation and poverty of urban areas.
Economic growth inspired the idea of the suburbs as a convenient residential area for the middle
classes that sought greater individualism, which separated them from the masses of working class
urbanites. The expansion of American suburbs defines the growth of the administrative/managerial
classes that was able to utilize public transportation to shift urban residential quarters to semi rural
neighborhoods at the fringes of American cities. Also, the issue of urban pollution was major incentive
for the middle classes to seek out semi rural residencies to escape the city. In essence, a historical
analysis of the increased economic prosperity of the Gilded Age and the development of suburbs for
the American middle classes will be defined in this study. At the end of the

Interactionism In College
Upon graduating high school, many students are faced with the decision to continue their education at
a higher learning institution or approach the work force: more often than not, especially in today s
society, these students are pushed to attend college, in the hopes of creating better job opportunities
and a wholesome lifestyle. When many of these students do approach college, it is clear that the
workload is much more strenuous and tedious than what they have previously dealt with, often
wondering how they will accomplish seemingly never ending schoolwork. A fraction of these students
are also involved in student athletics, adding practices and games to their already hectic schedule: how

Ehrenreich s Nickel And Dimed, By Barbara Ehrenreich
A Call to Action
In her novel, Nickel and Dimed, Barbara Ehrenreich states the working poor should be categorized as
a state of emergency, and while that may first appear as extreme title, it would certainly promote
action in our society. This call to action is one of the main motivations behind Ehrenreich s writing of
this novel. If viewing the working poor as a state of emergency promotes society to take action, then
so be it. It is clear from Ehrenreich s novel that the life of the working poor is not a sustainable
lifestyle. Whether it s continuing to work after spraining your ankle out of fear of missing work or
calling a motel or car your home, it s not a life anyone should be forced to live.
It is easy for anyone to tell that the life of the working poor is not the ideal lifestyle. Though in
Ehrenreich s words, It is common, among the nonpoor, to think of poverty as a sustainable condition.
(214)She means to say that it is easy for the nonpoor to ignore the true realities of those in the working
class. Many in fact are not ignoring the realities but have never become aware of them in the first
place. This is further supported by Ehrenreich statements about how the media rarely ever truly shows
the realities of the working poor. It is hard for society to take action for a cause they truly don t
understand. Though by declaring the working poor as a state of emergency this would draw attention
to the realities of the average lifestyle. In such creating

Virtue Ethics Of Prenatal Gene Manipulation
A second ethical theory that may be used to analyze the moralities of prenatal gene manipulation is
virtue ethics. Can virtue ethics answer the moral questions raised by the development of the
technology of prenatal gene manipulation? An article in the BBC Ethics guide website helps to
describe virtue ethics very precisely. Virtue ethics (VE), according to the BBC ethics guide, is not
based on action. It is rather a person based ethical theory that views the character of an individual
carrying out an action and their morals. In addition to dealing with whether an action is right or
wrong, it also sets out a guideline for the type of actions and features a qualities a virtuous individual
might possess. Therefore, in this specific scenario VE ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gardiner (2011) does not consider it a wise decision to separate the process of attitude and just focus
solely on reason since humans usually make decisions that are somewhat affected by the emotions.
And virtue ethics realizes that and incorporates that emotional component into its ethical theory.
Beauchamp and Childress addresses five important virtues that are most likely pertinent to the medical
practitioner which is conscientiousness, trustworthiness, discernment, compassion and integrity. If
these five values are taken into account when making decisions about prenatal gene manipulation the
questions may seem less complicated to answer. A trustworthy medical practitioner with integrity and
compassion would want his patient to have the best chance at survival almost like a parent would. The
decision made then probably would be to employ the technology only if it reliable enough to produce
a result beneficial to the patient, in this case the embryo. If the technology is not developed enough, or
is too risky a virtuous medical practitioner would not take the risk of harming the patient. It would
probably be more virtuous to not use the technology that cannot be trusted and has too many variables
associated with it. A virtuous decision would be to continue development of the technique using non
viable embryos which has been done before. And only when the technology has reached a certain
threshold of accuracy and precision in being able to deliver what is intended can it be used to treat real
embryos. To answer the final question, if non viable embryos are being used to develop a system that
might help viable embryos then the value of life is still kept intact and in fact is raised since a
successful application of this advanced technology would actually enhance the quality of life of a
person who otherwise would have gone through a lot of pain and

1918 Spanish Flu Research Paper
1918 Spanish Flu
It was the year 1918, Many people were fighting viciously in the World War fighting for what each
side had believed was true and fair. Both the allied and the axis powers were butting heads across
Europe, Asia and Africa. As the war was coming to an end a massive 16 million lives were taken from
the war torn events that had taken place. While the war effort was in full force both domestically and
internationally, A secret war was brewing under the surface becoming the underlying theme for what

This made the treatment and finding a vaccination difficult as it was not being classified in the

Symbolism and Repression in The Yellow Wallpaper
Symbolism and Repression in The Yellow Wallpaper
Charlotte Perkins Gilman s story, The Yellow Wallpaper is as a wonderful example of the gothic
horror genre. It was not until the rediscovery of the story in the early 1970 s that The Yellow
Wallpaper was recognized as a feminist indictment of a male dominated society. The story contains
many typical gothic trappings, but beneath the conventional façade hides a tale of repression and
freedom told in intricate symbolism as seen through the eyes of a mad narrator.
It is difficult to discuss the meaning in this story without first examining the author s own personal
experience. The Yellow Wallpaper gives an account of a woman driven to madness as a result of the ...

Many of the passages concerning the husband can be interpreted as containing sarcasm, a great many
contain irony, and several border on parody (Johnson 528). It is true that the husband s language is
exaggerated at times, but dismissing the husband s character as caricature seems extreme. He is
instead the natural complement to the narrator s madness and uncontrolled fancy: the character of John
is control and sanity as defined by Victorian culture and is therefore the narrator s opposite. Greg
Johnson notes that John exhibits a near obsession with reason, even as his wife grows mad. He is the
narrator s necessary counterpart, without whose stifling influence her eventual freedom would not be
gained. And he is also transformed at the end of the tale in a reversal of traditional gothic roles
because it is he, not a female, who faints when confronted with madness (529).
Central to the story is the wallpaper itself. It is within the wallpaper that the narrator finds her hidden
self and her eventual damnation/freedom. Her obsession with the paper begins subtly and then
consumes both the narrator and the story. Once settled in the long empty ancestral estate, a typical
gothic setting, the narrator is dismayed to learn that her husband has chosen the top floor nursery room
for her. The room is papered in horrible yellow wallpaper, the design of which commit[s] every artistic
sin (426). The design begins to fascinate the narrator and she

Rasulullah SAW pernah
memerintahkan Ali RA agar tidur di atas katilnya sebelum baginda keluar berhijrah ke Madinah,
sedangkan musuh Islam begitu giat mengintip. Namun Sayyidina Ali sanggup berbuat mengikut
perintah Rasulullah SAW kerana beliau yakin atas Kehendak dan Kekuasaan Allah. 2. Khalid Ibn al

The Errors Of Second Language Learners
Many researchers in the field of error analysis have stressed the significance of errors of second
language learners. Corder (1967), for example, in his important article, notes that they are significant
in three different ways. First, to the teacher, in that they show how far towards the goal the learner has
progressed. Second, they provide to the researcher evidence of how a language is acquired, what
strategies the learner is employing in his learning of a language. Thirdly, they are indisputable to the
learner himself because we can regard the making of errors as a device the learner uses in order to
learn (p. 161).One of the most difficult challenges handled by non native speakers of English is
understanding the system of English articles. This study aims at providing a comprehensive account of
the types of errors produced by Persian speaking learners of English in their use of articles. Data were
collected from 120 sentences produces by Persian speaking learners of English which written in error

articles, omission errors were the most frequent, while substitutions were the least frequent.

similar findings. MAIN REPORT
In May 2006, Westmount Retirement Residence was having very low profitability. Its very simple
pricing model essentially charged each resident the same price per month regardless of their needs.
This was due to a change in the patients´ demands. In the past, patients´ demands were similar and
therefore the company´s pricing and costing system was appropriate. But changes in the population
and in the requirements of the residents caused that the pricing model remained out of date and the
costing system inappropriate. One of the problems observed when analyzing the company´s situation
was that due to the costing system used it was not possible to have a clear picture of how much each
of the services offered were costing. Consequently, it was clearly very difficult being able to define a
pricing system that will give the shareholders the desired profit. The first step was to design a new
costing system adequate for the company

Air Entering The Vascular System
Purpose:
Air embolism is a rare but potentially fatal consequence of air entering the vascular system. It can
result from a wide range of procedures, including those related to vascular access in interventional
radiology, in addition to open surgical procedures. We set out to review all cases of air embolism at
our institution over a 25 year period, including analysis of cause, clinical signs and symptoms,
treatment and prognosis.
Materials and Methods:
Institutional board review for this retrospective study was obtained. A centralized clinical data registry
was searched for all cases of air embolism over a 25 year period using the ICD 9 CM code for air
embolism, 958.0. Additionally, a separate database of radiology reports was searched for the terms air
embolism , air embolus and other related terms over the same time period. The data were combined
and the relevant medical records were reviewed. Patients with imaging evidence or high clinical
suspicion of air embolism were identified. Inclusion criteria included the presence of sudden
desaturation, reduced end tidal CO2, acute cardiopulmonary compromise as defined by the need for
cardiopulmonary resuscitation or vasopressors, acute neurological change including motor or sensory
changes or the presence of seizures. Additionally, all patients needed to have a clearly defined

The housing choice voucher allows a housing subsidy to be paid directly to the landlord on behalf of a
local public housing agency. The public housing agency is able to make payments as the Department
of Housing and Urban Development federally funds the voucher program. After the subsidy is paid the
participant pays the difference between the actual rent and that paid by the subsidy. Upon receiving
the housing voucher the public housing agency determines a payment standard for the local housing
market chosen by the voucher participant. The payment standard, however doesn t limit the amount a
landlord may charge or the voucher holder s portion of payment. The housing voucher family
[participant] must pay 30% of its monthly adjusted gross income for rent and utilities, and if the unit
rent is greater than the payment standard the family is required to pay the additional amount (Housing
Choice, n.d.). This is a general requirement and specific public housing agencies may have slightly
different requirements. In Cuyahoga County, Under the rental voucher program, the family

Norma Rae Servant Leader
In Chapter 14 of Ken Blanchard s Leading at a Higher Level, we learn that servant leaders are a part
of a different type of leadership. Servant leaders want to make a difference in the lives of their people
and, in the process, impact the organization (pg.262). Ken Blanchard also offers several different
scenarios of those that can be referred to as a servant leader for example, the DMV manager
mentioned on pg.263, although the examples were helpful in understanding this concept I have found
that the character of Norma Rae offered the best understanding. Norma Rae was a hardworking,
determined, and independent woman. She was a servant leader who put herself aside to help change
other people s life for the better. In the movie Norma Rae

Why Do You Think Trophies Aren T For Everyone Essay

Trophies aren t for Everyone
(An analysis of, if trophies should be given to everyone )
Society has shifted in the way competition has worked, and will continue to change its beliefs in how
we should treat competition in young people. Is it really necessary that every participant should
receive a trophy? Or should only those that accomplished the goal, earn one? In today s youth
activities, it has become an American tradition, to award all those that participate in the activity,
whether they win or not. This is perhaps a decision that many have faced, but in reality it will teach
the children about life. Because life isn t always fair, and there s nothing more atrocious than giving a
child a trophy for everything they do.
So now the question, Should kids get a trophy for participation? All in all, I oppose to the fact that
kids should earn a trophy for participating. For example, take the coach of a soccer team, he should
honor his team with treats after a well played season, but not trophies. Trophies are a sign of
accomplishment, and if a child gave the coach a terrible attitude, then they shouldn t deserve one. It is
as well as a little excessive. If you continue to give your child trophies for ... Show more content on

The main focus should be to learn how to play sports, how to listen to a coach and be part of a team.
That in fact is very true. Sports are important, but one will not always have them in life. Being a loser
isn t always necessary a bad thing. If you are given a trophy for everything you do, you will not learn
how it feels to lose. Losing makes people want to improve in what they aren t successful in. This
therefore is a motivator in what they want to be fortunate in and continue to strive in

Modern Soccer Research Paper
Emergence of Modern Soccer
The sport of soccer is traced back more than 2,000 years ago to ancient China. There are some other
places that also claims that they started the game of soccer and they are Greece, Rome, and parts of
Central America.
The place that really transitioned football the game that we now know as soccer is England. In
October 1863 is the year that the game of soccer was actually established, eleven representatives from
London clubs and schools met at the Freemason s Tavern to set up common fundamental rules to
control the matches amongst themselves. It is said that the English also recorded the first uniform
rules of the game, they forbid tripping opponents and touching the ball with your hands. As the game
of soccer developed the more rules that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then I found out that the leading exporter for soccer players in the world is actually Brazil even
though Europe is the core economic of soccer. It is said this is because of the Brazilian players
predominantly fluid and imaginative style of playing the game of soccer. This is crazy to me but about
5000 Brazilians play professional soccer outside of Brazil, which is a very outrageous number of
soccer players that are playing professional soccer all around the world. One of the reason that Brazil
has so many soccer players is because they are inspired by the success of Pele and Ronaldo. In Brazil
there are 500 professional clubs and those clubs employ about 23,000 players. Since there is so many
teams the individual markets are small and the pay is low for all the teams except for the top ones. It is
stated that, 90 percent of Brazilian players earn less than 100 euros per month (Bellos). Brazil exports
so many players to the world because of the poor clubs which means poor pay so the players would
rather go somewhere else where they can make more

Oral Language and Reading Comprehension
Introduction: This paper is intentionally made to show the comparison between oral language and
reading comprehension. Oral language and reading comprehension are both essential to every
individual. All of us had undergone oral language when we are still young and as it develops and as
we grow and mature, it enables us to be more knowledgeable and prepares us to a more needed
comprehension in reading. This two are significant and are interrelated to each other. As a parent,
talking to the child helps expands vocabulary, develop background knowledge, and inspire a curiosity
about the world. The more a child engages into certain experiences and more learning that starts from

Developmental stages of child language development: Phase I Protolinguistic or Protolanguage ,
Phase II Transition, Phase III Language. The Protolanguage Stage (which is associated with the
crawling stage) includes noises and intonation, physical movement, adult/infant interaction this
exchange of attention is the beginning of language. During the Transition Stage (which is associated
with the developmental stage of walking) there is a transition from child tongue to mother tongue.
During this stage the pragmatic mode develops; a demand for goods and services that seeks a response
in the form of an action. In Phase III Language Stage, the child moves from talking about shared
experience to sharing information with a third person. The child realizes that reality is beyond their
own experience; they invite confirmation, enjoy shared experience.
From the ontogenesis of conversation we are able to gain insight into human learning and human
understanding. Meaning is created at the intersection of two contradictions the experiential one,
between the material and the conscious modes of experience, and the interpersonal one, between
different personal histories of the interacting taking part (Halliday,1994). Properly developed oral
language enables a child to effectively communicate their thoughts and viewpoints with others. It is
also important for young children to have developed listening skills as they begin to

Canada On The Home Front Essay
Canada s contribution on the home front played a significant role in the war effort. The federal
government transformed the Canadian lifestyle by introducing rationing which limited the quantity
and type of goods we consumed. On September 3, 1939, Prime Minister Mackenzie King s
government established the Wartime Prices and Trade Board (WPTB) which introduced rationing and
controlled prices to avoid inflation. Every Canadian was issued a ration card to buy essentials such as
sugar, meat, gasoline etc. Even though the cards restricted the number of goods it ensured the limit
was enough to fulfill an individual s need. Special permits were required to purchase cars, appliances,

Part One: Feudal Class Structure The feudal class structure focuses on the power in the society and
that is centered on being able to get things done in a group or individually. In society, there is
inequality and equality that exist in groups specifically classes giving some of the group s power over
the others. The taproot of power is economic power, whoever controls the economy has the most
power because they control the wealth for the groups as an entirety. Where you are in the economic
structure is where you have powers and interests specific to that position. The kingdom is like a mafia,
the Kings power is equivalent to the barons, who are given gifts of land called fiefs, there are farming

At one point in time God mandated man and animal to eat solely from the earth. Perhaps in one of the
western world s oldest and most influential and powerful texts, there was reasoning for the implied
notion of equality. He creates man and woman at a synchronized point in time, on the same day he
creates all other earthly creatures again at the same time. He gives the same instructions and blessings
to animals as he does to man and woman he says, God blessed them saying, be fruitful and multiply
(Genesis, 1:22, 28). He also instructs both man and animal that the earth is a food source for all. The
text implies that animal and human are created and instructed in an analogous fashion, as equal
inhabitants of the earth, similar to the ideal against speciesism, that all of God s creatures or earth
inhabitants desire the equal right to life.
The same texts that seems to imply the guidelines of animal equality, is the main source of the Judeo
Christian faith. In my lifetime, I have never witnessed someone sitting down at a dinner table and

impossible dream. For the reason that, people now cannot get ahead in life financially, students are
having a debt that is holding them back, and medical care is becoming unaffordable. Money seems to
be one of the problems in reaching that dream. Financially, the people are struggling to reach that
dream. According to the Oxford Journals, The middle class has not seen it wage rise in 15 years...the

making that dream disappear slowly. On top of the middle class having problem the rate of income has

Inversion Of Public And Private Life In Julius Caesar
In act 3 Scene 4, the relationship between Antony and Octavia is presented to us through the means of
the conversation that they have about the arising conflict between Antony and Caesar. Although short,
the scene manages to present to us the relationship of Antony and Octavia as a comparison to Antony s
relationship with Cleopatra and further the inversion of public and private life, as Antony only
discusses public life with his wife Octavia and private with Cleopatra. This scene is significant as the
relationship between Antony and Octavia is portrayed to portend the conflict and the future war
between the two polar opposites, Egypt and Rome and the allowance of Antony to focus on duty and

Throughout this Scene, Antony and Octavia do not talk about their private life and only discuss the
public issues, even when they are alone together. This is shown by their persistent talk about duty and
honor of Antony with his wife Octavia and the fact that it was not common for the husband and wife
to talk about their public life, whereas Antony only discusses private life with Cleopatra. The fact that
Octavia acts as the reconciler between Antony and Caesar also indulges her into their public life that
further justifies the point that there is an inversion of private life with Octavia and that even in the
only private scene of the play, they talk about public affairs. The inversion is further shown by, O my
good lord, / Believe not all, or, if you must believe, / Stomach not all. From this line we see that
Octavia cares about Antony, nonetheless the fact that she means the news, justifies the point that there
is an inversion and that even when they are alone together, Octavia talks about the news and public
affairs around them. Furthermore, the effect that Octavia says this privately to Antony, refers to the
fact that their relationship is only based and was made due to public affairs, when Antony married
Octavia to sign and agree to bond to Caesar closely, as they were against the same enemy, whereas
with Cleopatra, Antony discusses private issues as he is in love with her. This is showcased by, There s
beggary in the love that can be reckoned. Shakespeare shows through these words Antony s love to
Cleopatra, that he does not want to measure the extent of love. The significance of putting this in the
first scene of the play is to shows the strong love and bond between Antony and Cleopatra and that the
play ends with them dying together, signifies that the whole play is actually revolving around their
relationship and the relationship of Antony and

Analysis Of Meghan Trainor s All About That Bass
The music industry nowadays is becoming more and more overloaded with songs orientated around,

reader into a depressed mood. Moreover, The speaker is able to do this through imagery; for example,

And some words played between us to and fro on which lost more by our love, (7 8). The love they
have for each keeps them together, but being together is only making things worse. They explain how
words that used to hold so much meaning now have none. Additionally, the next stanza continues with
explaining how everything about their lover is now fake. The stanza uses a metaphor to connect to the
theme. The metaphor is, The smile on your mouth was the deadest thing, (9). They compare a smile to
being something dead. The second and third stanza directly show the theme because it explains how
their lover is now fake, yet they are still together. Finally, the last stanza is the speaker coming to

I Am At The Local Grocery Store
I was at the local grocery store. It was a franchise styled to look like a local establishment. I stood
with a basket of impulse buys waiting in line to checkout. I observed with curiosity as a mother
appeared to struggle with product selection. Her son sat impatiently in the cart, trying to escape the
aged seatbelt. She held in each hand a box of detergent. They had comparable size and even resembled
each other s appearance. In her expression of exasperation she looked upward. There above her was a
display explaining the environmental benefits of the item in her left hand. As if receiving direction,
she placed that item in her cart and returned the unadvertised product to the shelf. She didn t even stop
to reevaluate the prices. She merely continued on her journey down the aisle.
That experience made me wonder. As I placed my own items on the conveyor belt, I rethought my
own decisions. I remember selecting the green (environmentally friendly) product several times, but
why? For one item there was an effective display with premium product packaging, and for another I

selections because it was good for the Earth, but is that why?

The Postbellum Southern Disillusionment In Wash Analysis
The Postbellum Southern Disillusionment in Wash According to German philosopher Friedrich
Nietzsche, exercising and expanding one s personal power is all that one wants (Nietzsche 36). He
argues that we hurt those to whom we need to make our power perceptible, [and] we benefit and show
benevolence toward those who already depend on us in some way (36). Per this logic, individuals who
exhibit generosity feel content with their current influence on the world while those who act
injuriously yearn for more control over their peers. It is not surprising, then, that the Poor White

Critic Françoise Buisson observes that Wash s idealized vision of his master present[s] the reader with

Southern attitude perpetuating inequality. He believes wholly in his master, and remarks Well Kernel

perception in a desperate attempt of self elevation, convincing himself that the world in which he
sensed always about him mocking echoes of black laughter was but a dream and an illusion, and that
the actual world was this one across which his own lonely apotheosis seemed to gallop on the black
thoroughbred (132). Wash s Platonic conception of himself is merely a plebian emulation of the man
he reveres most: Thomas Sutpen. He imagines himself in a position of power atop Sutpen s black
stallion, with all of the marks of representative power. When subjected to the verbal degradation that
he experiences at the tongues of the slaves calling him white trash (Faulkner 130), Wash attempts to
escape the reality of his dismal situation by fabricating a fictitious existence with limited
verisimilitude. Wash s puerile dismissal of his forlorn situation reflects many white Southerners
general denial of the upshot of the Civil War while in fact they are defeated, they refuse to accept this

The Wedding Of Ursula Essay
When telling the story of Ursula s childhood, Lawrence tells us early on that, Ursula was the one for

was a hard act to choose if it s in favour of liberation or not. Overall it s fifty fifty as the party was a
torn between pleasing the Lords or the lower working class men. An act that was less popular than the
Irish Act was the University Act. The liberals set up Roman Catholic University. In the university
Modern History, Philosophy and Theology wouldn t be taught in the. This act was very unpopular and
it was defeated in the House of common. Also it didn t please the catholic Bishops. This was a step too
far for the liberals and after it Gladstone offered to resign.
The University act wasn t liberating or popular. However that does not mean that all the unpopular
acts were unpopular. The army reform was very unpopular among the Aristocracy, the Senior Officers
and the Conservatives. The Army reform act was very liberating. There were two main reasons for the
reform in the army. One of the reasons was the Crimean War 1854 6 in which mare soldiers were

In an attempt to achieve a master race by rebuilding the society from the ground up, communist leader
Pol Pot spear headed a period radical change, terror, and bloodshed. Long lasting effects of this
atrocious time still taints Cambodia today. This tragedy has and will forever change Cambodia.
From April 17, 1975 Until January 1979 Pol Pot forced the citizens of Cambodia to live in harsh labor
camps and work 14 to 18 hour days. Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge s plan was to liberate their citizens.
They told citizens that America was going to bomb the cities. They forced millions of people out of
their homes and they were separated so they couldn t stand up and win back their rights (DePaul and

the old citizens and then city dwellers began as new citizens. They could move up in rank to
deportees, then Candidates and then full rights citizens. Anyone who refused to be re educated were

Grip and Arm Strength
Purpose Statement
Occupational health professionals consistently document the need for physical testing upon
application for physically demanding jobs. Decades of studies suggest that physical fitness screening
prior to job selection decreases workplace injuries. Many of these studies prove specifically that a
direct correlation exists between one s strength and job performance. This case study examines such a
claim. It is an analysis of the impact arm strength (ARM) and hand grip (GRIP) have on workers
performance on the job (SIMS). So, can job performance be predicted linearly by a combination of
grip strength and arm strength? Therefore, the dependent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, you risk injury to applicants who are not strong enough to do the job. A solution to this problem
is to develop a measure of physical ability that is easy and quick to administer, does not risk injury,
and is related to how well a person performs the actual job. A study by Blakely, Quiñones, and Jago
(1995) published in the journal Personnel Psychology reports on the research results of just such a
measure. That study, and this case study, looks at methods for determining if these strength tests are
related to performance on the job. The principles and methods associated with this case study also
apply to any number of variables other than strength and job performance.
Definition of Variables
The dependent variable will be work/job performance and the two independent variables are grip
(GRIP) and arm (ARM) strength and two measures of strength were gathered from each participant. A
piece of equipment known as the Jackson Evaluation System (JES) was used to collect the strength
data. The JES can be configured to measure the strength of a number of muscle groups. In this study,
grip strength and arm strength were measured. For each of the tests, the participant was asked to exert
as much force as they could for a period of 2 seconds. The equipment then measured the maximum
force exerted in pounds (lbs.). Since there is little to no

  • 2. Gemini-Scout Essay Robots do all types of things with all sorts of purposes. In this case, this robot helps people underground. It can go up and down stairs and even carry food and water, or supplies needed, easily. It isn t that tall, it is only two feet tall! This robot is called, Gemini Scout, invented by Scientist Barbara Mckenley. She runs into a predicament after she tests it out in the mining site, but fixes it a month later. Mckenley always wanted to create a robot that was helpful to everyday activity in some way, so she invented Gemini Scout which helps miners underground. Barbara Mckenley invented Gemini Scout in the summer of 2014. All Mckenley s life she loved engineering, and creating things, especially little robots. Her parents didn t really support her doing engineering because they had always said, Why can t you find something else to do. But she didn t care what they thought. She always told them, I don t care! I love it, and that is what matters! Why can t you guys just be supportive? She constantly told them. She was only 24 at the time, excelling in all her former schools and that is how she finished college successfully with her Robotics Engineering degree since she loved it all her life. Now, in the summer of 2014, she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She decided to test out the built in wheels, which she thought she had built well. Everything else had been working just fine, so she didn t have any doubt that the wheels wouldn t work. In the instance of Margin Call by J.C Chandor, a wide range of justifications revealed by the upper management level of an investment firm evinces the core values of the firm. Once it is revealed that there is a high probability of the firm being the devalued beyond market capitalization, the firm and its division heads attempt to find a solution to the imminent crisis. Although there is some dissent from Sam Rogers, Head of Sales and Trading, CEO Tuld promptly decides to liquidate the firm s toxic assets onto the market. However, there is much internal tension between the chief officers in that they individually represent different predicaments. In the end, Margin Call illustrates conviction that the role of business is to engender a certain type of lifestyle for the society through the executives justifications and interactions with others. In the first scene of Margin Call, there is a massive unannounced layoff for about 80% of the trading floor in the investment firm. Though Eric Dale has worked in risk management for many years, the firm s decline in profits requires that it downsize in order to survive. Will, Head of Trading, tells the risk analysts to carry on with their jobs despite having most of their co workers laid off, but he also jadedly asks if it s the first layoff the analysts have seen. Topic 3: The Transformation of Urban Life in the Gilded Age and the Development of Suburbs for the American Middle Classes This historical study will define the increased economy prosperity of the Gilded Age and the development of suburban planning in the American middle classes. During the late 19th century, the massive growth of the American economy was dominantly formed in urban industrial centers, yet the wealth generated from the upper and middle classes allowed them to move out into rural areas near major cities. More so, the development of public transportation, such a trolleys and trains, helped the middle classes to plan suburban housing to escape the overpopulation and poverty of urban areas. Economic growth inspired the idea of the suburbs as a convenient residential area for the middle classes that sought greater individualism, which separated them from the masses of working class urbanites. The expansion of American suburbs defines the growth of the administrative/managerial classes that was able to utilize public transportation to shift urban residential quarters to semi rural neighborhoods at the fringes of American cities. Also, the issue of urban pollution was major incentive for the middle classes to seek out semi rural residencies to escape the city. In essence, a historical analysis of the increased economic prosperity of the Gilded Age and the development of suburbs for the American middle classes will be defined in this study. • 9. Ehrenreich s Nickel And Dimed, By Barbara Ehrenreich A Call to Action In her novel, Nickel and Dimed, Barbara Ehrenreich states the working poor should be categorized as a state of emergency, and while that may first appear as extreme title, it would certainly promote action in our society. This call to action is one of the main motivations behind Ehrenreich s writing of this novel. If viewing the working poor as a state of emergency promotes society to take action, then so be it. It is clear from Ehrenreich s novel that the life of the working poor is not a sustainable lifestyle. Whether it s continuing to work after spraining your ankle out of fear of missing work or calling a motel or car your home, it s not a life anyone should be forced to live. It is easy for anyone to tell that the life of the working poor is not the ideal lifestyle. Though in Ehrenreich s words, It is common, among the nonpoor, to think of poverty as a sustainable condition. (214)She means to say that it is easy for the nonpoor to ignore the true realities of those in the working class. Many in fact are not ignoring the realities but have never become aware of them in the first place. This is further supported by Ehrenreich statements about how the media rarely ever truly shows the realities of the working poor. It is hard for society to take action for a cause they truly don t understand. Though by declaring the working poor as a state of emergency this would draw attention to the realities of the average lifestyle. In such creating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Can virtue ethics answer the moral questions raised by the development of the technology of prenatal gene manipulation? An article in the BBC Ethics guide website helps to describe virtue ethics very precisely. Virtue ethics (VE), according to the BBC ethics guide, is not based on action. It is rather a person based ethical theory that views the character of an individual carrying out an action and their morals. In addition to dealing with whether an action is right or wrong, it also sets out a guideline for the type of actions and features a qualities a virtuous individual might possess. Therefore, in this specific scenario VE ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gardiner (2011) does not consider it a wise decision to separate the process of attitude and just focus solely on reason since humans usually make decisions that are somewhat affected by the emotions. And virtue ethics realizes that and incorporates that emotional component into its ethical theory. Beauchamp and Childress addresses five important virtues that are most likely pertinent to the medical practitioner which is conscientiousness, trustworthiness, discernment, compassion and integrity. If these five values are taken into account when making decisions about prenatal gene manipulation the questions may seem less complicated to answer. A trustworthy medical practitioner with integrity and compassion would want his patient to have the best chance at survival almost like a parent would. The decision made then probably would be to employ the technology only if it reliable enough to produce a result beneficial to the patient, in this case the embryo. If the technology is not developed enough, or is too risky a virtuous medical practitioner would not take the risk of harming the patient. It would probably be more virtuous to not use the technology that cannot be trusted and has too many variables associated with it. A virtuous decision would be to continue development of the technique using non viable embryos which has been done before. And only when the technology has reached a certain threshold of accuracy and precision in being able to deliver what is intended can it be used to treat real embryos. To answer the final question, if non viable embryos are being used to develop a system that might help viable embryos then the value of life is still kept intact and in fact is raised since a successful application of this advanced technology would actually enhance the quality of life of a person who otherwise would have gone through a lot of pain and ... Many of the passages concerning the husband can be interpreted as containing sarcasm, a great many contain irony, and several border on parody (Johnson 528). It is true that the husband s language is exaggerated at times, but dismissing the husband s character as caricature seems extreme. He is instead the natural complement to the narrator s madness and uncontrolled fancy: the character of John is control and sanity as defined by Victorian culture and is therefore the narrator s opposite. Greg Johnson notes that John exhibits a near obsession with reason, even as his wife grows mad. He is the narrator s necessary counterpart, without whose stifling influence her eventual freedom would not be gained. And he is also transformed at the end of the tale in a reversal of traditional gothic roles because it is he, not a female, who faints when confronted with madness (529). Central to the story is the wallpaper itself. It is within the wallpaper that the narrator finds her hidden self and her eventual damnation/freedom. Her obsession with the paper begins subtly and then consumes both the narrator and the story. In the past, patients´ demands were similar and therefore the company´s pricing and costing system was appropriate. The Protolanguage Stage (which is associated with the crawling stage) includes noises and intonation, physical movement, adult/infant interaction this exchange of attention is the beginning of language. During the Transition Stage (which is associated with the developmental stage of walking) there is a transition from child tongue to mother tongue. During this stage the pragmatic mode develops; a demand for goods and services that seeks a response in the form of an action. In Phase III Language Stage, the child moves from talking about shared experience to sharing information with a third person. The child realizes that reality is beyond their own experience; they invite confirmation, enjoy shared experience. From the ontogenesis of conversation we are able to gain insight into human learning and human understanding. Meaning is created at the intersection of two contradictions the experiential one, between the material and the conscious modes of experience, and the interpersonal one, between different personal histories of the interacting taking part (Halliday,1994). He gives the same instructions and blessings to animals as he does to man and woman he says, God blessed them saying, be fruitful and multiply (Genesis, 1:22, 28). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout this Scene, Antony and Octavia do not talk about their private life and only discuss the public issues, even when they are alone together. This is shown by their persistent talk about duty and honor of Antony with his wife Octavia and the fact that it was not common for the husband and wife to talk about their public life, whereas Antony only discusses private life with Cleopatra. The fact that Octavia acts as the reconciler between Antony and Caesar also indulges her into their public life that further justifies the point that there is an inversion of private life with Octavia and that even in the only private scene of the play, they talk about public affairs. The inversion is further shown by, O my good lord, / Believe not all, or, if you must believe, / Stomach not all. From this line we see that Octavia cares about Antony, nonetheless the fact that she means the news, justifies the point that there is an inversion and that even when they are alone together, Octavia talks about the news and public affairs around them. Furthermore, the effect that Octavia says this privately to Antony, refers to the fact that their relationship is only based and was made due to public affairs, when Antony married Octavia to sign and agree to bond to Caesar closely, as they were against the same enemy, whereas with Cleopatra, Antony discusses private issues as he is in love with her. This is showcased by, There s beggary in the love that can be reckoned. Shakespeare shows through these words Antony s love to Cleopatra, that he does not want to measure the extent of love. The Postbellum Southern Disillusionment In Wash Analysis The Postbellum Southern Disillusionment in Wash According to German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, exercising and expanding one s personal power is all that one wants (Nietzsche 36). He argues that we hurt those to whom we need to make our power perceptible, [and] we benefit and show benevolence toward those who already depend on us in some way (36). Per this logic, individuals who exhibit generosity feel content with their current influence on the world while those who act injuriously yearn for more control over their peers. Wash alters his own self perception in a desperate attempt of self elevation, convincing himself that the world in which he sensed always about him mocking echoes of black laughter was but a dream and an illusion, and that the actual world was this one across which his own lonely apotheosis seemed to gallop on the black thoroughbred (132).
