Business Controlled Assessment At Afro Caribbean Hair Styles
Business Controlled Assessment
For my controlled assessment I have investigated an entrepreneur named, Asaya Marks, who owns a
small multi purpose business called Asaya Hardware and Asaya Beauty Box which changed on July
5th 2014 from Causeway Ā£ Saver. The business is both a hardware store and a beauty salon, the beauty
salon specialising in Afro Caribbean hair styles. For the controlled assessment I will be doing task 3,
which states: Which of the qualities shown by an entrepreneur has most contributed to the success of
their business?
In response to this task I found a mixture of desk and field research; desk research expressing various
opinions of entrepreneurial skills, field research being questionnaires and feedback forms expressing
the entrepreneur, the staff and some customer s views.
From Appendix 1 I have become more aware of the importance of planning within a business it allows
an entrepreneur to decide their desired outcome for the business. Planning with consistency is also
important (Appendix 4) as it leads to a more success and stability for the business; Asaya Marks does
this by using forecasts often when planning which may lead to a more organised method of planning.
Asaya Marks business benefits from planning as she can be more prepared for circumstances such as
an increase in supply and demand in which she could have already planned a way to purchase goods
from a different seller at short notice.
As an entrepreneur Asaya Marks uses planning to

Achilles Hero Behavior Cycle in the Iliad Essay
The Ancient Greeks admired their heroes and tried to learn from both their achievements and their
mistakes. They believed that most great leaders and warriors followed a predictable behavior cycle,
which often ended tragically. In Homer s epic poem, The Iliad, Achilles is a great warrior who traces
the stages of the behavior cycle twice, from arete to hubris to ate and then to nemesis. Achilles is a
highly skilled warrior and a great leader who becomes a narcissist and an arrogant person, which leads
to selfish and childish behavior resulting in the death of his best friend. Following Patroclus death,
Achilles repeats the behavior cycle by regaining his courage and motivation, and goes back to battle
against Hector. The pride he feels in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

both start two different behavior cycles that start at different times in the epic poem. The great talents
that Achilles possesses cause him to become much admired and well known by both the Greeks and
the Trojans. He begins to believe all the good things people are say and becomes an arrogant, child
like, selfish person which all mark Achilles hubris part of his behavior cycle. Achilles shows his
arrogance when he gets angry with Agamemnon for him wanting take his prize of honor, which
Achilles worked very hard to get. Because of this, Achilles begins to lose his capability to think
straight and weigh all the factors in situations, and withdraws himself from the battle. Later on after
Achilles overcomes the death of his best friend and regains back his courage and pride, Achilles kills
Hector and thinks he is invincible for doing the great deed he did. Achilles fought Hector for honor
over all else and performed the death of Hector almost as a duty and feels proud of himself for doing
so. Before he kills Hector, Achilles declares, I will go forth to slay Hector, who killed the man the I
loved... Until then, may I win great fame and glory, and may every Trojan realize that the greatest of
the Greeks no longer remains apart from battle (145).

Analysis Of Realistic Characters By Elizabeth Gaskell
In the previous paragraph, Realistic Characters are described with quotations and some sayings in
terms of gap between classes. In this paragraph, characters are argued in terms of politics, how
Elizabeth Gaskell illustrates political issues of that time by using realistic characters. In the Victorian
era, Workers began to show their reaction towards to their conditions and they made some step like
chartist petitions. Petitions are displayed to the parliament from 1838 to 1951. All of them were
refused. Because of these refusals, there are some violent events (Wikipedia). In Chris Vanden
Bossche s article, he speaks about their similarities between reflections of political actions. According
to him, while in novel, Trades unions try to resist low wages, in reality workers tries to resist.
(Bossche,7) Gaskell reflects reality just one different but their actions is same As a result of these

Reincarnation in The Ancient Indian Civilization
A gnat, a rabbit, a king...If one plays their cards right, they may just get the life they want next time.
The belief that a person is reborn upon death is known as reincarnation. Reincarnation was very
important to the Ancient Indian civilization. Because it played a major role in both the Buddhist and
Hindu religions, it is clear that reincarnation was an important aspect of the Ancient Indian culture.
Reincarnation was an important aspect of the Hindu religion in the ancient Indian civilization.

Another part of reincarnation that was beneficial to the ancient Indian society was dharma. Dharma is
the duty that a person must follow. Each caste had a set of jobs that were assigned to the people of that
specific caste. If one followed the path that was designated to them, and did the job that was assigned
to them, in their next life they may be reincarnated as a level higher in their caste. This aspect of
reincarnation was an important part of the ancient Indian civilization because it kept people on task
and created a balance of work forces. Karma was an aspect of reincarnation closely related to dharma
that also played a role in the ancient Indian civilization. Karma is the belief that when someone dies
their soul is transferred into a new body in a fair way. Meaning that if one was a kind, noble person,
that followed their dharma in one life, they will be given a life that is just as good, or better next time.
The belief in karma encouraged people to follow their dharmas, thus, reinforcing the balance of work
forces. The final stage of reincarnation was Moksha, a state

Police Officer Shootings
Yes I do feel that our police departments generally do a good job of screening applicants. The
Knoxville Police Department employees 397 police officers to protect the city of Knoxville, which
had a population of 185,638 in 2015 (UCR, n.d.). According to the statistics on officer involved
shootings from the Knoxville Police Department there showed to be no shootings in 2015 but in 2014
there were five officer involved shootings, three of which were fatal for the suspect (knoxvilletn.gov,
n.d.). In each of these cases the officers were exonerated from liability as their actions were found to
be within departmental policy (knoxvilletn.gov, n.d.). I feel that the psychological testing of incoming
officers is an important aspect to ensure we hire the most professional officers for our police forces
but sometimes individuals with behavioral or mental issues can be missed and any individual who
exhibits such traits or bias should be dealt with or dismissed from the force to avoid issues that could
impact the entire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In some of these cases there has been video evidence of the officer performing improperly and in other
cases the officer has performed properly and was exonerated. The media loves to report as if the
officer is automatically guilty and can skew the facts to make it appear so. One example of skewing
the facts is a website I accessed while searching for information on police shootings. The Washington
Post website shows a database of police shootings in 2016 and when accessing the website the number
958 is in large letters with lethal force written underneath and it ticks up one digit at a time to reach
963 (Washington Post, n.d.). This makes it appear that shootings are occurring currently even though
2016 has already past. Tactics such as this are those that the media uses to make police look more
responsible for issues than they

The Face Of Face Communications
In the past twenty years, the face to face communications as well as the ways of communication have
changed. With the creation of numerous devices, applications, and an unbelievable connection with
each other, the biggest distances have been shortened in ways never imagined. Two decades ago,
people could not imagine how effective and fast a device of the size of the palm of your hand could
connect you with people all over the world. With great ideas and a mentality of progress, humans and
technology have changed the way we interact and how we used to see the world. These changes have
helped to create a more capable society which is able to do things we once thought they were
impossible, but it also has had a negative impact in the way we behave.
Within the communication world, the evolution of the telephone is the biggest attraction for people of
all ages. In the past, landlines were the main source of communication, while cellphones were
uncommon, or actually inexistent. We have come from telephones which only capability was to call,
to smartphones that have calling, texting, emailing, and different social networks that connect you
with people world widely; and all this is in one simple device that is every time smaller and better. A
smartphone is the combination between a phone and a computer. It is capable of do multiple task, such
as connect to internet to check emails, make video calls, take pictures, access to documents and

quite often and took after his father in that sense and embraced his role of a pianist. Other composers
in the Classical Period consist of Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig Van
Beethoven. (Mello, 2017). Hayden, Mozart and Beethoven are perhaps the greatest composers of all
time. When people think of them, they think of their great works, or incidental stories, but they all had
a serious effect of the growth and development of the piano. This is often over looked and
underappreciated. Mozart challenged inventors, composers, teachers, and people each day. While
people had choice words to say about Mozart, he developed music in a way that not many people had.

With technology changing it is difficult to keep up with the progress. The piano today varies from the
piano in the classical romantic period in ways such as:
The modern Piano has 88 keys (52 white and 36 black), allowing the artist to emote with music. Each
key corresponds to two or three strings. The base notes have long strings and the higher the notes go,
the shorter the strings get. There are 100 parts to each key and 30 adjustments can be made to each
key. (LifeIsMusic, 2015).
Something else that has changed within the past few decades is that, since the Classical Period, almost
every middle class to upper class family had a piano in their household and it was expected that every
member of the family was to learn to play it. Because of the way technology has been moving, music
has been primarily heard through phones or laptops and could be made through other sources of
technology too. Unfortunately that means that the life of the piano has been at a standstill within
chamber music. Thankfully, a lot of composers today have kept the piano in their works and it is just
as important as it was during the Romantic and Classical

Smoke Signals Themes
Smoke Signals is an independent film directed by, Chris Eyre. The film, Smoke Signals , is based on a
short story named, This Is What It Means to Say Phoenix, Arizona , by Sherman Alexie. At the end of
the film, Smoke Signals , the character Thomas says some words in phrases, which puts us all to think.
He invokes problems that happen in life to almost every single human being in the world. Sometimes
we do not know how to handle these problems and we just learn to live with them. He talks about
abuse, lack of communication, rage, divorces, and family problems. The words that Thomas says at
the end of the film, and the short story have very similar themes, specific about father and son issues,
we will see which theme in special they both share. Thomas is trying to make a point with the last
words he takes at the end of the film. He is making us see that we can really forgive. At the end of the
film, we see how Victor finally forgives his father and starts making progress with Thomas. He does
not feel the anger he felt because of his dad, he sees that his father loved him, and that he only went
away to stop hurting his family. He sees that he always cared about them and that the love for his
family never ended. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like the death of Thomas father and mother, the time Thomas and Victor end in the marshal s office,
and the woman that lived next to his father s trailer. They link all of these events very well with the
things that really happened in the short story. It was basically like watching what we read on real life. I
believe that making the trip that Victor did to get his father s ashes was a family thing. Thomas
accompanies Victor after everything they went through in the past, and we see how Thomas has
already forgiven Victor like family

Twins Two Lives...One Personality
Twins Two Lives .One Personality What would it be like to have a twin? This is a question people
often ponder. People often say that they see someone that resembles someone they already know. It is
almost like dejavu. Twin comes from the German word twine meaning two together (Nagy 1). Most
people automatically think of two people who look just alike when they hear the word twin . However,
there is a lot more to twins than just looking alike. Twins are the most common type of multiple births.
Many think there are only two types of twins, identical and fraternal; they often leave out conjoined
twins. Twins are very unique and fascinating individuals because of their similarities biologically,
physically, and psychologically. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Begley, identical twins are not always identical in behavior just because of genes. Some
studies show that when twins are given different circumstances, for example, different educational
opportunities, different results are obtained. One example in Newsweek showed one twin may grow to
be a professional pianist while the other twin was not at all musical even though the twins were both
raised in a musical environment ( Heredity 69). Twins have different interest from each other, and
express them in individual ways. About twenty five percent of identical twins show features of mirror
imaging, a reversal of patterns in twins that are most commonly detected when twins have opposite
handedness (Wright 119). Every set of mirror twins are not opposite handed. Opposite handedness is
one of the major forms of mirror imaging along with opposite hair whirls and opposite birthmarks. In
its mildest form, it can be a matter of which side of the mouth the first tooth appears on. In a more
dramatic form of mirror imaging it can be when organs are actually found on the wrong side of their
bodies. Mirror imaging is found more frequently in conjoined twins, this has led most researchers to
conclude that mirror imaging is a characteristic of late separation (Scheinfeld 56). It has been proven
over and over by many professors, doctors, and researchers that identical twins share a special bond. It
is a

Darwin And Darwin s Theory Of Evolution
It is often thought today that the theory of evolution started with Darwin and begun in the nineteenth
Hundreds. Nonetheless, the thought of species changing over the years, had picked up for a long time
in one shape to something else. It was denied by the maximum, due to the defender whom did not had

significant evolutionary beliefs pervious to Darwin were of Lamarck and Geoffrey Hillarie, advanced

How to Save an Animal Life Essay
How to Save a Life
I remember when I was 11 years old and my dog, Happy, was sick with cancer. Since the moment we
rescued Happy he was the sweetest, most energetic pet I had ever seen. He remained this way over the
many years that we had him, hence, his name. I remember the day we decided it was time to let go.
We took Happy to the veterinarian clinic and were taken into a little room. All four of us, my brother,
my parents, and I, huddled around Happy as he was lying on the counter. The veterinarian gave us
some time to spend with him alone and say our goodbyes. When she returned she asked if we were
ready and gave him an injection that would take him away from this world forever. Happy was
euthanized due to his illness. As terribly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my opinion, this is a terrible issue. These animals are dying because of this with no fault of their
own. If the overpopulation in shelters continues we will not have a place to put all of these animals
except for in the ground. A shelter is supposed to be used as a safe place for lost, homeless pets, but it
is being abused and turned into a trashcan due to the overpopulation. Some may argue that there are
no kill shelters, and although that is true to some extent, it is not entirely true. The sad truth is that in
most cases even when a shelter calls themselves a no kill shelter it simply means they give the dogs
they don t want to a shelter that IS a kill shelter (Maguire). Overpopulation is costing animals their
lives. Do you know what else overpopulation is costing? Us. It costs the United States taxpayers $2
billion a year to impound, shelter, euthanize, and dispose of homeless animals ( Animal
Overpopulation ). These statistics are hard to take in, but they are very real and this is why I think
something needs to change.
So why is this happening? There are many things that can contribute to the massive amount of animals
entering shelters every year. Some of the reasons for overpopulation can be giving up problematic or
even old, sick pets, and continuing to over produce pets through breeding and the lack of neutering or
spaying. Many people think animals in shelters are pets that have been

Compare And Contrast Reason And Faith
In my essay I intend to explore the two very different theories on wether the Sun or the Earth is in the
middle of the universe, referring to the models, represented at the Earth and Sun exhibition. I will be
exploring the topic from different points of you, that are stated in my question, which is reason and
faith. Referring to reason, we can be implying different meanings, but mainly reason is our way of
trying to make sense of the world, which gives us explanations and justifications. All humans and
scientists seek to find answers by using a common way of knowing, such as reason. We use it for
different matters, which is why we know some reasons of the origins, of where Earth and where Sun
is. At first, faith might seem irrelevant in my question, however faith doesn t always have to be related
to religion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that faith is why we search for answers, hoping that there is a reason for everything, which
has to do with such way of knowing as emotions. This are the things I ll discuss, in order to find a

towards those attempts to understand, does faith has something to do with it and how does the
knowledge of Earth and Sun helps us understand the origins of life through reason and faith.

Kant s Principles Of Kant
The work of Immanuel Kant focuses on the idea that of everything in the world it is only good will
that can be taken as good without qualification (Kant, 393). Unlike qualities or talents, which can be
used both for good and for bad, good will is considered by Kant to be unequivocally good. Therefore,
Kant s principles require an individual to make decisions only based rationally upon the principles, or
maxim, behind that decision, without consideration of the consequences that that action will bring
about. Here, I will be evaluating a particular scenario and evaluating the morally right decision based
solely on the principles of Kant. According to Kant, the morally right act must come from a decision
taken by an individual because it is one s duty, as opposed to a decision that is performed merely in
accordance with duty. The significance there is that an act cannot be morally right in and of itself if it
is not performed for the right reason. As a result, it is particularly important to evaluate the duties at
play in this scenario as opposed to the outside motivating forces and inclinations that the individual
may have in the situation. The particular circumstance that I will analyze concerns an individual who
is sheltering Anne Frank and her family. The individual is one day confronted by the Gestapo who
demand to know if that individual is sheltering Jews, to which the individual must decide whether to
lie and protect the Frank family or to tell the truth and

How Workplace Is An Essential Part Of Professional Life
Modern workplace is a specific and highly changeable sphere where the interests of employees and
employers are highly interconnected and opposed at the same time. Workplace management has
become an important part of any organizations life, especially during the last decades, when people
have been recognized by different management theories as the greatest assets of an organization.
Dealing with people, making them develop and learn, making them follow the planned agenda and
achieving something with the help of others have always been among the most important character
features of professional business and political lives. Although the simplest definition of management

II. History of Management and Workplace Learning. Theories and Concepts. Although a great number
of managerial practices have been used through the centuries of human development, they were rarely
investigated and conceptualized. However, it is clear that such important organizations as the Church
or the ancient armies were based on particular practices and concepts. The history of management
normally starts with the Industrial Revolution and the following mass production that changed the face
of the businesses and the world in general.
Each stage of the management theories development brought new ideas about the nature of an
organization, the place and importance of the workplace learning. One of the oldest theories of
management is the Scientific Management theory developed by Frederick Taylor, who tried to develop
the standards of organizations and their tasks. It is followed by the Bureaucratic Management Theory
suggested by Max Weber. This theory mostly concentrated on the types of organizations and the
hierarchy of organizational tasks and responsibilities.

discovered many years later. The legend says all the wishes can come true for the one who

Three Denominations Of Christianity
Throughout the history, religions around the world have played an important part in establishing
beliefs and culture. Every area of the world has some kind of religion or belief system. There are many
different religions, some are huge and wide spread, some are small with a few people following it, and
some are very influential up to a point that, countries establish them as their state religions. According
to the Oxford Dictionary Religion is defined as the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling
power, especially a personal God or gods. However, it can be understood in different ways. For
someone it is a personal way of leading a lifestyle, while for others it is a tool to control a large
number of people. Also each person can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christianity is about 2,000 years old, beginning around 30 CE with the death of Jesus Christ. Over the
centuries, Christianity has divided into vast amount of denominations, because some Christians
worship in different ways and believe in different parts of the Bible. According to
arabamericanmuseum.org, each denomination has its own distinctive beliefs or practices, but they are
generally considered a branch of mainstream Christianity if they agree on core doctrines like the
divinity of Jesus Christ and the authority of the Bible. The three main largest denominations of
Christianity are Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy and Protestant, with Catholicism being the
largest. Christians believe that there is only one god, but that there are three elements of God,
including the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They believe these are 3 forms of the same God, similar to
how water can exist in 3 forms of liquid, gas and solid. They also believe that 2,000 years ago in
Israel, God sent his son, Jesus Christ, to earth to save humans from the consequences of their sins. He
gave his life by being crucified and on the third day rose from the dead. Faith in Jesus Christ himself,
not just in his teachings, is how the Christian experiences joy and a meaningful life. Jesus claimed to
be the God in human form, rather than prophet who is pointing to God. He performed miracles,
forgave people of their sin and said that anyone who believed in him would have eternal life. He made
statements like, I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will
have the light of life. (biblehub.com ) The Christian holy book is called the Bible. It reveals God s
personality, his love and truth, and how each person can have a relationship with him. Whatever
circumstances a Christian is dealing with in their life, the Bible teaches that they can confidently turn
to a wise and powerful God who truly loves

Organizational Effect on Employee Psychology
Organizational Effect on Employee Psychology Organizations are defined as a social group of
individuals who come together to achieve a common goal or particular purpose. The success of an
organization starts with a solid foundation to build upon. The foundation starts with a vision, followed
by a clear and concise mission statement and supported by a great employee base that executes the
plans. When we magnify the layers of a successful organization, it usually reveals great leadership and
the loyal employees who follow them. Understanding the importance of great leadership and the value
of a high performing staff is critical to any organizations success. The relationship between the
organization and the employees psyche can be very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will discuss the key factors that are leading to the challenges this organization is facing today.
Furthermore, I will propose a plan to address the root cause of the problems the organization is having
with its employees, and show why these few simple changes will have such a positive impact on the
overall morale of the organization.
The Organizational Challenge Few organizations can say they have been around for over 100 years,
let alone 125 years. More remarkable, few can say that they have steadily increased revenue and
market share during this entire stretch of time. This organization can proudly state this fact, and is a
well known retail beast that has sold everything from clothing to cars, and hats to homes. This
organization has been nationally recognized over the past 100 years for excellence in retail and
revolutionizing shopping, as we know it including having the famous catalogue for shoppers to
browse in the privacy of their own homes long before the internet was even a thought in some
technology moguls mind. Organizations like this are bound to have I O psychology related issues, and
this was certainly the case when I worked for them from 2011 to 2013. I was a General Manager (GM)
for them and my store had upwards of 150 employees across multiple sales and operations
departments. Shortly before I started, the organization completed a national employee

The Differences Between People With Autism And The People...
Perception refers to the process of taking in, organizing, and interpreting sensory data. Perception is
multimodal, with multiple sensory inputs contributing to motor responses (Bertenthal 1996). In this
paper, I will discuss the many differences between people with autism and the people without and how
each person reacts to the same stimuli differently. I will focus on a teenage boy named Brandon, who
has Autism, the parents have known that he had ASD since he was 16 months of age where they
entered him into early intervention. Each person focuses differently on the perception of each thing in
the world, but when you add a person with autism into the mix everything changes completely. When
it comes to perception I believe that top down processing is going to be the focus of this paper since, it
has a lot to do with perception, that perception may start with the brain this includes a person s
knowledge, experience, and expectation.
People with Autism experience different perceptions in response to the same stimulus than people
without a disability.

English literature. The plays main character is Hamlet he is the prince of Denmark. Hamlet plays the
biggest role throughout the play because he has all of the characters revolve around his actions. The
character Hamlet is an unusual character in the play no matter what Hamlet will always end up telling
the truth no matter what happens that s just how he views things as a person in the play. He shows true
emotion as a character with a leading role giving the play a great main character to focus on

Examples Of Mistakes In American History
Nobody is perfect, so everyone all makes mistakes. Human created history and even historical
failures. Some people believe that we usually repeat what we did wrongly before. It sounds similar to
the British author George Bernard Shaw s idea: We learn from history that we learn nothing from
history. However, in my opinion, that idea is completely not correct, because we must learn something
from the mistakes we made in the past, so that we would not do them one more time at the present or
in the future.
In my essay, I will use three examples from American history (from 1877 to the present) to disprove
George Bernard Shaw s statement. They are all the mistakes which the American made in the past
have not appeared until today.

Bush used to say a sentence which was very famous and seemed as his promise. That was Read my
lips: No new taxes . However, in June 1990 Bush abandoned his Read my lips. No new taxes
campaign pledge and acknowledged that new or increased taxes were necessary. Many Republican
conservatives were critical of this shift, and his popularity ratings fell immediately. (8) On March 4,
1992, he said: I thought this one compromise, and it was a compromise, would result in no more tax
increases. I thought it would result in total control of domestic discretionary spending. And now we
see Congress talking about raising taxes again. And some in Congress are talking about trying to break
down the spending caps. And so I m disappointed and given all of that, yes, a mistake. (9)
Let s talk about an example of kept promises. Barak Obama promised to Extend the Bush tax cuts for
lower incomes and he kept his word. He extended the Bush tax cuts for those making less than
$250000 (couples) or $200000(single). (10) He promised to Create an Advanced Manufacturing Fund
to invest in peer reviewed manufacturing processes, and once again he kept his word.
As a president, it would be terrible if that president broke his promise to the public. Once he says
something, he had better follow and do exactly the same as what he said. If not, his words will become
unreliable. Barak Obama was the 44th president of the United States, and it seemed that he learned a

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) 2005 2014. Educators are advised to prepare young

environmental integrity, economic viability, and a just society for present and future generations
(UNESCO 2005) and to help young people to become global citizens (UNESCO 2006). In response,
the Scottish Government (SDELG 2006) recommends that education for sustainable development
should offer young people opportunities to practise and develop:
sensitivity to and appreciation of the social and natural environment;
some factual understanding of environmental and social problems and issues;
knowledge/understanding of the social environment;
skills to find out about and explore environmental issues;
civic skills to influence decisionā€making in society;
researching and communicating information about one s own environment;

Christopher Seitz s The, The Divine, Miraculous...
I turned to a number of commentaries with these questions in mind. Christopher Seitz cites the opinion
of C. Westermann that the salvation referred to in this chapter is brought about by the divine,
miraculous transformation of a condition, the nation s oppression and impoverishment, into its
opposite rather than it being brought about by an historical event. Seitz comments that by God
becoming Zion s everlasting light, Zion s exaltation has cosmic, transnational consequences. I found
this unconvincing in the face of the fact that we have not seen the exaltation of Zion during the period
of the text. One would have to remove it entirely from history and see this as an apocalyptic text,
which my passed study of Isaiah has shown not to be true. I moved on to Joseph Blenkinsopp, who as
usual, did not disappoint. Here I found the historical context of this section of Isaiah. Blenkinsopp
referred back to Isaiah 58 to shed light on why the vision of theophany in Isaiah 60 had not been
realized. Cyrus had release the Jews from Babylonian captivity, and those who wished to had returned
to Jerusalem. But the dominant frame of mind of the people being address (in Isaiah 58) is one of
disorientation and disillusionment. There is corruption in the government and judicial system, and
among the religious leaders. The poor are neglected. Jerusalem suffers under external pressures and
internal dissention. In chapter 60 the vision is unfulfilled; in chapter 58, God tells the

As Hercules stumbled upon the den of the Nemean lion, he could see it sleeping soundly. Hercules
pulled out his arrow from the pouch behind his back, he aimed it towards the lion. He let go of the

much that the trees flew back. As the lion was roaring every hair on his mane stood up on end.
Hercules pulled out another one of his arrow and aimed it toward the lions right eye. The lion jumped

Factors Driving Germany To War Essay
There are four main factors that could have driven Germany s decision to go to war; firstly due to fear
of encirclement , secondly that she was pulled into war by a web of alliances, thirdly that she entered
war for imperial reasons, and lastly that she entered war as a result of social pressure. However one
must consider the degree to which each of these factors effected Germany s decision to go to war, and
that the principle reasoning is a conjunction of both social pressure and fear of encirclement. The
entrenched isolation within which Germany existed, to some degree alongside Austria Hungary and
lesser so with Italy, and the growing threat that she posed to Britain both financially and militarily, can
be said to have driven the web ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, Gerhard Ritter has argued that German aims in 1914 were essentially defensive and that
what Bethmann Hollweg hoped for was at best a diplomatic victory which would split the entente ,
showing her desire to break the encirclement. The intent of German policy was to drive a wedge
between Britain and France, whom together were a great check against German power in Europe. Yet
the Russian threat from the east compounded the fears of the Anglo French alliance, and as Otto von
Volderndorff stated, we must confine ourselves to securing our country against the two neighbours
[France and Russia] . Further historiographical support for this theory comes from Andreas Hillgruber
, who argues that Germany sought to break the Triple Entente by encouraging Austria to invade Serbia
and provoke a crisis that concerned only Russia, and in doing so hope that neither Britain nor France
felt compelled to enter the conflict, leaving Russia isolated and to eventually reach an agreement with
Germany. This theory is quite compelling as it serves both to explain Germany s quick support of
Austria, and to match Germany s concern of the Triple Entente. Yet this idea is not concurrent with
Germany s actions towards France. If keeping France out of the war was a goal, then antagonizing her

Masquerading Colonial Innocence in Rudyard Kipling s Kim
Kim: Masquerading Colonial Innocence Introduction Rudyard Kipling was one of the most famous
writers of his time, and his popular novel Kim, had first become published in 1901, has turned into
one of his most infamous non juvenile writing masterpieces. The novel happens during a time and
place that is contemporary to the publication of the book; the location is set in India up under the reign
of the British Empire. The main character is a boy of Irish descent who has been an orphan that has
grown up in the streets of India, that is cared for by a half caste woman, a keeper of an opium den. The
character of Kim, is very energetic and playful, even though full blooded Irish, he still grows up as a
native and gets skills to seamlessly incorporate into the numerous ethnic and religious factions of the
Indian country. When he meets a wandering Tibetan lama who is out to look for a sacred river, Kim
becomes his follower and moves on into a journey that covers the whole country of India. Kipling
story of Kim s journey during the subcontinent provided him a chance to describe the many peoples
and cultures comprised in India, and a noteworthy section of the novel is dedicated to such metaphors,
which have been both praised as visionary and magical ridiculed as imperialistic and stereotypical.

of the colonel. Colonel Creighton distinguishes Kim s great talent for mixing into

War Narrative
It started out as yet another wet and sloppy day in the camp with nothing to do. I sat in my bunk

that it would not happen any time soon. As I sat there in my hard cot, my mind drifted off to the fond
memories of home in Iowa. I remember my sister and my two brothers and recall the great times we
had together. I can still picture the looks on the faces of my family as I left them that day and also the

Jainism Is The Last Of The Great Teachers
Jainism is an India religion with most of it s more than four million followers residing there. It was
founded by Mahavira, who lived from 599 to 527 BCE. Mahavira was born into the kshatriya class of
rulers and warriors. At the age of thirty he renounced the privileges this class afforded him to live an
ascetic life. Reaching enlightenment only fourteen years later, Mahavira became a Vardhamana
gaining followers until thirty years later when he starved himself to death. Mahavira is called the last
of the great teachers. Jainism arose during the 6th century BCE. There were twenty four great
religious leaders called Tirthankaras including Mahavira (the 24th). Tirthankaras were all enlightened
humans whose teachings and stories point the way for others. Like Hinduism and Buddhism Jainism is
focused on separating from a physical form and escaping from reincarnation (The unhappy passage of
the soul from one body to another). They believe they can do this through physical denial and mental
self discipline, when they reach enlightenment through these means they are liberated. However
Jainism did oppose Hindu priestly groups who emphasized salvation by sacrifices they controlled.
Another difference between Jainism, Hinduism and Buddhism is, even though they use a lot of the
same words and imagery, the Jains have put many of them into a different context. Some of the main
symbols and meanings of those symbols for Jainism include the shape of human torso which

All titles such as Sir , Rai Bahadur, Khan Bahadur, have been abolished by the Constitution to remove

only confer military or academic awards. No citizen of India is permitted to accept any title even from
any foreign state, especially if he is employed in a government job, without the permission and
consent of the President of India.
Right to Freedom:
In a democratic country like ours, safeguarding the freedom of an individual is very essential. Six
freedoms have been granted to the citizens both individually and collectively. They are:
a. Freedom of speech and expression;
b. Freedom to assemble peacefully without arms;
c. Freedom to form associations or unions;
d. Freedom to move freely throughout the territory of India;
e. Freedom to reside and settle in any part of the country; and
f. Freedom to practice any profession or to carry on any occupation, trade or business.
But there are certain restrictions or limitations on these freedoms. For instance, the right to freedom of
speech does not mean that we can say anything to anyone. Our freedom to speech does not entitle us
to make statements that are not in the interest of the security of the nation or sours ours relations with
other countries.
Similarly, the right to freedom of movement is also subject

The Conservation And Recycling Of Water
Currently California has a terrible water problem, which is causing many people to cease watering in
excess all across the state. The reason California has water problems is that we are emptying our
underground aquifers during a drought that has been going on and many people are still wasting water
on their own personal opportunities. There are many options toward either ending or surviving the
water issue, such as the idea of war to take the water that California needs to survive. Another is to
build a pipeline from a place with extra rainfall annually that California can syphon off for usage.
Another is the option to conserve water across the state and to reuse water as much as possible to
minimize excess water usage. The most viable of these solutions is the conservation and recycling of
water. By conserving and recycling water there is no waste, only recycled water for cleaning dishes,
watering plants, and washing houses and cars. The only foreseeable problem is that the process cannot
be monitored and people are only held by honesty and a promise to do what they can to conserve
water, but the conservation of water seems to be the most affordable, quickly enacted, and can be done
by most families. Also the other options require a higher amount of financial support to begin and
continued maintenance, large spans of time to orchestrate, and would need a lot of manpower. With
the option of water conservation time, money, and manpower is not as high of a needed factor when

All of Germany had a solid reason for the persecution, if not extreme terrors that it included. After the
conclusion of World War One and the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, Germany was launched into
a massive depression that devastated the country. Those who are suffering are bound to reach a state of

their economy, resulting in massive inflation and extreme poverty. Thus, Germany was angry. The ...

Government Support In Higher Education
Once again what a timely discussion question: Tuesday, January 17, 2017, Betsy DeVos Education
Secretary Confirmation Hearing gave the country a look at how politics play a major role in higher
education. The background of government support for higher education and students can be dated
back to the 1944 G.I. Bill, the National Defense Education Act of 1958, and the Higher Education Act
of 1965. According to the Student Aid Alliance (2013), the Higher Education Act of 1965 formed the
basis for the current federal student aid system, embodied the principle that all qualified students

Kraft and Furlong (2013) suggest that one of the major arguments for supporting education generally
is the belief that it is the great equalizer within U.S. society (p. 369). There are constantly two sides of
a contention. Here in the United States, individuals trust that education is the one of the best way to
keep up developing nations. It s a known idea that advanced education measures up to higher
compensations and more open doors. In any case, the issue is that the normal cost of advanced
education is more than an individual can bear the cost of for a long time at a state college. Along these
lines, many believe that the government should offset the cost of college (Sakamoto and Chapman,
2011). While there are others that trust that the legislature shouldn t pay for school. Ziguras and
McBurnie (2015) uncover that college educations are discretionary and it takes a family and a group
to make the correct circumstance for students to go to college through various scholarship
opportunities and student loans. The authors additionally propose that unfortunate, students through a
byproduct of human nature, the individuals who get a free ride are likewise less inclined to esteem the
education as opposed to working for it. Regardless of the arguments, Kraft and Furlong (2013),
express that although higher education costs and funding provoke considerable debate, the value of a

The Knoxville Police Department employees 397 police officers to protect the city of Knoxville, which had a population of 185,638 in 2015 (UCR, n.d.). According to the statistics on officer involved shootings from the Knoxville Police Department there showed to be no shootings in 2015 but in 2014 there were five officer involved shootings, three of which were fatal for the suspect (knoxvilletn.gov, n.d.). In each of these cases the officers were exonerated from liability as their actions were found to be within departmental policy (knoxvilletn.gov, n.d.). I feel that the psychological testing of incoming officers is an important aspect to ensure we hire the most professional officers for our police forces but sometimes individuals with behavioral or mental issues can be missed and any individual who exhibits such traits or bias should be dealt with or dismissed from the force to avoid issues that could impact the entire ... With the creation of numerous devices, applications, and an unbelievable connection with each other, the biggest distances have been shortened in ways never imagined. Two decades ago, people could not imagine how effective and fast a device of the size of the palm of your hand could connect you with people all over the world. With great ideas and a mentality of progress, humans and technology have changed the way we interact and how we used to see the world. These changes have helped to create a more capable society which is able to do things we once thought they were impossible, but it also has had a negative impact in the way we behave. Within the communication world, the evolution of the telephone is the biggest attraction for people of all ages. In the past, landlines were the main source of communication, while cellphones were uncommon, or actually inexistent. We have come from telephones which only capability was to call, to smartphones that have calling, texting, emailing, and different social networks that connect you with people world widely; and all this is in one simple device that is every time smaller and better. Other composers in the Classical Period consist of Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig Van Beethoven. (Mello, 2017). Hayden, Mozart and Beethoven are perhaps the greatest composers of all time. When people think of them, they think of their great works, or incidental stories, but they all had a serious effect of the growth and development of the piano. This is often over looked and underappreciated. Mozart challenged inventors, composers, teachers, and people each day. The piano today varies from the piano in the classical romantic period in ways such as: The modern Piano has 88 keys (52 white and 36 black), allowing the artist to emote with music. Each key corresponds to two or three strings. The base notes have long strings and the higher the notes go, the shorter the strings get. There are 100 parts to each key and 30 adjustments can be made to each key. (LifeIsMusic, 2015). Something else that has changed within the past few decades is that, since the Classical Period, almost every middle class to upper class family had a piano in their household and it was expected that every member of the family was to learn to play it. Because of the way technology has been moving, music has been primarily heard through phones or laptops and could be made through other sources of technology too. People often say that they see someone that resembles someone they already know. It is almost like dejavu. Twin comes from the German word twine meaning two together (Nagy 1). Most people automatically think of two people who look just alike when they hear the word twin . However, there is a lot more to twins than just looking alike. Some may argue that there are no kill shelters, and although that is true to some extent, it is not entirely true. The sad truth is that in most cases even when a shelter calls themselves a no kill shelter it simply means they give the dogs they don t want to a shelter that IS a kill shelter (Maguire). There are many things that can contribute to the massive amount of animals entering shelters every year. Unlike qualities or talents, which can be used both for good and for bad, good will is considered by Kant to be unequivocally good. Therefore, Kant s principles require an individual to make decisions only based rationally upon the principles, or maxim, behind that decision, without consideration of the consequences that that action will bring about. Here, I will be evaluating a particular scenario and evaluating the morally right decision based solely on the principles of Kant. According to Kant, the morally right act must come from a decision taken by an individual because it is one s duty, as opposed to a decision that is performed merely in accordance with duty. The significance there is that an act cannot be morally right in and of itself if it is not performed for the right reason. As a result, it is particularly important to evaluate the duties at play in this scenario as opposed to the outside motivating forces and inclinations that the individual may have in the situation. The particular circumstance that I will analyze concerns an individual who is sheltering Anne Frank and her family. • 29. Christopher Seitz s The, The Divine, Miraculous... I turned to a number of commentaries with these questions in mind. Christopher Seitz cites the opinion of C. Westermann that the salvation referred to in this chapter is brought about by the divine, miraculous transformation of a condition, the nation s oppression and impoverishment, into its opposite rather than it being brought about by an historical event. Seitz comments that by God becoming Zion s everlasting light, Zion s exaltation has cosmic, transnational consequences. I found this unconvincing in the face of the fact that we have not seen the exaltation of Zion during the period of the text. One would have to remove it entirely from history and see this as an apocalyptic text, which my passed study of Isaiah has shown not to be true. I moved on to Joseph Blenkinsopp, who as usual, did not disappoint. Here I found the historical context of this section of Isaiah. Blenkinsopp referred back to Isaiah 58 to shed light on why the vision of theophany in Isaiah 60 had not been realized. Cyrus had release the Jews from Babylonian captivity, and those who wished to had returned to Jerusalem. But the dominant frame of mind of the people being address (in Isaiah 58) is one of disorientation and disillusionment. There is corruption in the government and judicial system, and among the religious leaders. The poor are neglected. Jerusalem suffers under external pressures and internal dissention. In chapter 60 the vision is unfulfilled; in chapter 58, God tells the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Factors Driving Germany To War Essay There are four main factors that could have driven Germany s decision to go to war; firstly due to fear of encirclement , secondly that she was pulled into war by a web of alliances, thirdly that she entered war for imperial reasons, and lastly that she entered war as a result of social pressure. However one must consider the degree to which each of these factors effected Germany s decision to go to war, and that the principle reasoning is a conjunction of both social pressure and fear of encirclement. The entrenched isolation within which Germany existed, to some degree alongside Austria Hungary and lesser so with Italy, and the growing threat that she posed to Britain both financially and militarily, can be said to have driven the web ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, Gerhard Ritter has argued that German aims in 1914 were essentially defensive and that what Bethmann Hollweg hoped for was at best a diplomatic victory which would split the entente , showing her desire to break the encirclement. The intent of German policy was to drive a wedge between Britain and France, whom together were a great check against German power in Europe. Yet the Russian threat from the east compounded the fears of the Anglo French alliance, and as Otto von Volderndorff stated, we must confine ourselves to securing our country against the two neighbours [France and Russia] . Further historiographical support for this theory comes from Andreas Hillgruber , who argues that Germany sought to break the Triple Entente by encouraging Austria to invade Serbia and provoke a crisis that concerned only Russia, and in doing so hope that neither Britain nor France felt compelled to enter the conflict, leaving Russia isolated and to eventually reach an agreement with Germany. This theory is quite compelling as it serves both to explain Germany s quick support of Austria, and to match Germany s concern of the Triple Entente. Yet this idea is not concurrent with Germany s actions towards France. If keeping France out of the war was a goal, then antagonizing her seems ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I sat in my bunk listening to my buddies talk amongst themselves about the crappy weather and the war. They chatted about the normal things; all of them wanting to finally get home and be dry, but all of them knowing that it would not happen any time soon. As I sat there in my hard cot, my mind drifted off to the fond memories of home in Iowa. I remember my sister and my two brothers and recall the great times we had together. I can still picture the looks on the faces of my family as I left them that day and also the face of my dear wife, Chris. • 36. Jainism Is The Last Of The Great Teachers Jainism is an India religion with most of it s more than four million followers residing there. It was founded by Mahavira, who lived from 599 to 527 BCE. Mahavira was born into the kshatriya class of rulers and warriors. At the age of thirty he renounced the privileges this class afforded him to live an ascetic life. Reaching enlightenment only fourteen years later, Mahavira became a Vardhamana gaining followers until thirty years later when he starved himself to death. Mahavira is called the last of the great teachers. Jainism arose during the 6th century BCE. There were twenty four great religious leaders called Tirthankaras including Mahavira (the 24th). Tirthankaras were all enlightened humans whose teachings and stories point the way for others. Like Hinduism and Buddhism Jainism is focused on separating from a physical form and escaping from reincarnation (The unhappy passage of the soul from one body to another). They believe they can do this through physical denial and mental self discipline, when they reach enlightenment through these means they are liberated. However Jainism did oppose Hindu priestly groups who emphasized salvation by sacrifices they controlled. Another difference between Jainism, Hinduism and Buddhism is, even though they use a lot of the same words and imagery, the Jains have put many of them into a different context. Some of the main symbols and meanings of those symbols for Jainism include the shape of human torso which represents the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. The Conservation And Recycling Of Water Currently California has a terrible water problem, which is causing many people to cease watering in excess all across the state. The reason California has water problems is that we are emptying our underground aquifers during a drought that has been going on and many people are still wasting water on their own personal opportunities. There are many options toward either ending or surviving the water issue, such as the idea of war to take the water that California needs to survive. Another is to build a pipeline from a place with extra rainfall annually that California can syphon off for usage. Another is the option to conserve water across the state and to reuse water as much as possible to minimize excess water usage. The most viable of these solutions is the conservation and recycling of water. By conserving and recycling water there is no waste, only recycled water for cleaning dishes, watering plants, and washing houses and cars. The only foreseeable problem is that the process cannot be monitored and people are only held by honesty and a promise to do what they can to conserve water, but the conservation of water seems to be the most affordable, quickly enacted, and can be done by most families. Also the other options require a higher amount of financial support to begin and continued maintenance, large spans of time to orchestrate, and would need a lot of manpower. With the option of water conservation time, money, and manpower is not as high of a needed factor when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Government Support In Higher Education Once again what a timely discussion question: Tuesday, January 17, 2017, Betsy DeVos Education Secretary Confirmation Hearing gave the country a look at how politics play a major role in higher education. The background of government support for higher education and students can be dated back to the 1944 G.I. Bill, the National Defense Education Act of 1958, and the Higher Education Act of 1965. According to the Student Aid Alliance (2013), the Higher Education Act of 1965 formed the basis for the current federal student aid system, embodied the principle that all qualified students should be able to attend college, regardless of their financial means . Kraft and Furlong (2013) suggest that one of the major arguments for supporting education generally is the belief that it is the great equalizer within U.S. society (p. 369). There are constantly two sides of a contention. Here in the United States, individuals trust that education is the one of the best way to keep up developing nations. It s a known idea that advanced education measures up to higher compensations and more open doors. In any case, the issue is that the normal cost of advanced education is more than an individual can bear the cost of for a long time at a state college. Along these lines, many believe that the government should offset the cost of college (Sakamoto and Chapman, 2011). While there are others that trust that the legislature shouldn t pay for school. Ziguras and McBurnie (2015) uncover that college educations are discretionary and it takes a family and a group to make the correct circumstance for students to go to college through various scholarship opportunities and student loans. The authors additionally propose that unfortunate, students through a byproduct of human nature, the individuals who get a free ride are likewise less inclined to esteem the education as opposed to working for it.
