Photosynthesis and Respiration
All organisms on earth depend on photosynthesis, in which light energy is used to make sugar and
other food molecules from carbon dioxide and water. For example, plants and other photo synthesizers
need only energy from sunlight, carbon dioxide from air, and water from the soil to make the sugar
glucose. Photosynthesis is the most important chemical process on earth because it provides food for
virtually all organisms, not only for photo synthesizers but for the organisms that eat them. Plants can
capture the energy of the sun by a chemical process called photosynthesis. This chemical reaction can
be described by the following simple equation:
6CO2 + 6H2O + light energy = C6H12O6 + 6O2
The product of photosynthesis is a carbohydrate, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The CO2 is converted into malic acid and then converted back to CO2 during the day when light is
present, thus producing sugars, while the stomata are closed and greatly reducing water loss. Plants
convert the energy from light into simple sugars, such as glucose. This food may be converted back to
water and carbon dioxide, releasing the stored energy through a process called respiration. This energy
is required for growth in nearly all organisms. Simple sugars are also converted to other sugars and
starches (carbohydrates) which may be transported to the stems and roots for use or storage, or they
may be used as building blocks for more complex structures, e.g. oils, pigments, proteins, cell walls,
etc. Photosynthesis is dependent on the availability of light. In other words, as sunlight increases in
intensity photosynthesis increases. This results in greater food production. Many garden crops, such as
tomatoes, respond best to maximum sunlight. Tomato production is cut drastically as light intensities
drop. Only two or three varieties of greenhouse tomatoes will produce any fruit when sunlight is
minimal in fall and spring. Water plays an important role in photosynthesis in several ways. First, it
maintains a plant s turgor or the firmness or fullness of plant tissue. Turgor pressure in a cell can be
compared to air in an inflated balloon. Water pressure or turgor is needed in plant cells to maintain
shape and ensure

The Different Styles Of Parenting Essay
The two different styles of parenting that are described in the book are concerted cultivation and
natural growth. Concerted cultivation is typically seen in the middle class families. Whereas natural
growth is mainly seen in the working class families. The book defines concerted cultivation as having
Organized activities, established and controlled by mothers and fathers... (Lareau, 2011, p.1). And it
defines natural growth as having children experience long stretches of leisure time, child initiated
play, clear boundaries between adults and children, and daily interactions with the kin. (Lareau, 2011,
p.3). Essentially in concerted cultivation parents are focused in exposing their children in activities
that will implement skills that they can use later in life. Some of the skills will be mentioned in the
next paragraph. As for the natural growth approach, it is more concerned in letting the child acquire
the necessary skills on their own. This parenting style views that the parents do not really impact the
skills that the child learns. An example would be thinking that the child s organized activity helps the
child have something to do for a certain amount of time. They do not view the child s activities as
helping them acquire skills that will help them into adulthood. Throughout the book it has become
clear that the differences we are seeing are not due to racial or ethnic background but rather to the
parenting style that is implemented to the children. We are able

Entrepreneurship is The process of initiating a business venture, organizing the necessary resources

Entrepreneurship as an option. For many years there was many worries surrounding the idea but

Parable Of The Good Samaritan
When given the option between the Good Samaritan or the Prodigal Son, I chose the Good Samaritan.
I believe this parable represents a common misconception of our walk with Christ. This parable deals
with individuals who are excepted to show compassion that does not and individuals who are least
likely to show compassion that actually does. In this passage Jesus teaches the lawyer that everyone is
his neighbor; thus meaning he should love everyone, regardless of their situation or social standard.
1. The Setting...why did Jesus tell this parable?
Jesus introduced this parable to a Pharisee that was a law expert (lawyer or Scribe). The Pharisee asks
Jesus what he must do to earn eternal life. Jesus then allowed the Pharisee to answer his own question
by asking what the law said. The Pharisee correctly explained himself by saying love the Lord your
God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind. ; and,
Love your neighbor as yourself. The lawyer then proceeds to ask who his neighbors were. Jesus
replied with The Parable of the Good Samaritan, which teaches God s law of love and how to
effectively express it.
2. The Characters
Character #1 Jesus was referred to specifically in this parable as a Teacher by the Pharisee. He is also
considered to be the storyteller in this specific piece. Globally known as the Son of God.
Character #2 The Pharisee was an expert in the law which allowed him to answer his own question to

Summary Of The Abduction Of Europa
The painting I found at the Dallas Museum of Art is a work done by Jean Baptiste Marie Pierre. It is
entitled The Abduction of Europa , it is a depiction of an episode coming from the narrative Ovid s
Metamorphoses. In this painting, Zeus manifests himself as a bull and comes to lift Europa out of the
sea. She then ascends out of the water on the back of the bull into the heavens. This work of art comes
to life through its usage of the fundamental elements and principles of art. The usage of the lines in
this painting establishes emphasis and develops subtle nuances in the structure of the piece. The
figures above the sea: namely the cherubs and the large birdlike figure possess thinly defined lines
outlining them. The cherub in the top left corner with the string of flower petals has a long implied
line going into the distance. The wings of the birdlike figure in the sky have a horizontal line on the
left wing and a curved line on the right wing. This develops the outline and shape of the birdlike
creature. The lines that surround the clouds are curved and thinly defined as well. In the bottom, right
corner of the painting there is a man whose hand is reached out to touch the chin of the bull. The lines
of the rib cage and upper body muscles of this man are very thick. The lines on this man are much
more defined than the other people in the painting. This is meant to establish a subtle sense of struggle
with this man, while he is attempting to flee the sea. Europa s

United Parcel Service
United Parcel Service Executive Summary UPS has announced that after more than 90 years as a
private company, it was planning an initial public offering to become a publicly traded company. In
response to this, we will first analyze UPS¡¦s business strategy and it¡¦s sustainability of its current
performance. Then we will look at key factors to estimate the UPS¡¦s market capitalization value using
FedEx¡¦s multiples as well as ¡§best in breed¡¨ company premiums. From this, we concluded that
UPS¡¦s IPO should create a market capitalization for UPS between $17,520 million and $30,415

Also UPS¡¦s decision to operate their ground and express business as one integrated company sharing
the same trucks and sorting centers gave UPS advantage over FedEx. UPS is likely to sustain the
current performance since ground delivery business, which has been growing at a slower rate than
express business is expected to grow faster mainly due to the expansion of Internet shopping which
would provide a boost for the B2C ground business. FedEx has not fared as well as UPS in financial
performances. FedEx¡¦s total revenue has grown 60% from 1996 to 1999 while their net income has
doubled in the same period. FedEx¡¦s acquisition of RPS will challenge UPS for the ground delivery
business and affect the sustainability of UPS¡¦s advantage in the ground deliver business. FedEx has
been competing well in the higher end, high service segment of the package delivery market.
Although, digitations of documents and emergence of electronic signatures is threatening the express
business which FedEx has the advantage over UPS. Analysis If we use FexEx¡¦s multiples as
benchmarks we get an average UPS market capitalization of $17,520 million. Using FedEx¡¦s trailing
price to earnings ratio, we come up with UPS¡¦s market capitalization of $13,911 million. Using

Human Consciousness Essay
Human Consciousness
Erich Fromm and Shirley Jackson have both written wonderful true life affecting essays and should be
awarded for them. I appreciate both stories and feel they both set tales to learn from and live by. As a
combined theme for both I ld say human consciousness is more then a gift . And read on to see what I
mean.
In Erich Fromm we notice a compassionate concern for the unfolding of life. Fromm claims that the
growing process of the emergence of the individual from his original ties, a process which we may call
individuation, seems to have reached its peak in modern history in the centuries between the
Reformation and the present. Of course, the beginning of change is not the cause of all our problems
but it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being set in your own way doesn t necessary have to be bad? Just imagine, if the tradition was
something more positive that promote life rather than destroy it. Traditions, rituals are made from
rules established. The rules could be rules of a home, a city, county, state or nation. Then again
imagination can do wonders and living life is just part of nature. And that s where Fromm brings our
attention to living life . He states that although the animals are living within nature, they at the same
time going above it and are conscious of themselves. Which I think is very true. Setting themselves
over against nature they have lost their unity and feel unbearably alone, lost, and powerless. This same
process can be seen in the development of individual human beings. Each of us initially feels at one
with our environment, but then becomes gradually more aware of our individuality. Fromm
determines, therefore, that on the one side of the growing process of individuation is the growth of self
strength, but on the other side of this process is a growing aloneness.
Then again with Jackson s story one has to gaze from a distance. At first glance, one would think by
reading The Lottery, that it was to tell of someone s great chance of fortune. After all it begins with the
setting of a beautiful day. The

African American Voting Rights For African Americans
When Washington was delivering the Atlanta Exposition he claimed that according of the full exercise
of political rights is going to be a matter of natural, slow growth, not an over night [Sic] gourd vine
affair . However, Du Bois believed that it was necessary to agitate and upset to gain voting rights for
African Americans, essentially believing that their freedom and their right to vote had to be explosive
and upset the social order. Through political power, Du Bois felt that economic security and material
gains could be achieved. But Washington opposed the direct militancy of Du Bois. Washington made
the point that the militancy would only serve to upset the whites in the south, which in turn would
limit African American voting rights. Much of their differences in suffrage can be understood through
their respective backgrounds. Washington was a former slave, so his experiences later affected how he
viewed voting. His subservience to his masters as to not upset or cause unnecessary violence is
apparent in his pragmatic and slow evolving voting ideals. While Du Bois grew up in a white
European neighborhood in Boston, Massachusetts, relatively secluded from the Jim Crow Laws of the
South. Du Bois self proclaimed elitist attitude, reveals the most important difference and reasoning
between him and Washington on the matter of the need for African American suffrage. Du Bois, from
experience, knew that suffrage in the north was a far more attainable goal after the Civil

Market Competition
Industrial regulations are those regulations in which the government commissions regulate the price
charged by natural monopolists . (McConnell Brue, 2008, p. 382)
These regulations exist to ensure that natural monopolies are not charging consumers monopoly prices
which in turn hurt the consumers as well as society as a whole. Industrial regulations affect the market
by its regulation of the natural monopolies which in turn protects the markets consumers. These
regulations also allow for a fair profit to the natural monopoly by setting a fair rate, protecting its
consumers, but also a fair return to the enterprises . (McConnell Brue, 2008, p. 382) In terms of

The three main regulatory commissions of industrial regulation include the Federal Energy Regulatory

Each regulatory commission regulates a particular area. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission

of media including internet, telephone, radio, and satellite. This commission governs this area through

Court Trial Essay
The criminal trials I attended at the Boone County Courthouse where very interesting because it was
not the first time ever being in a courthouse and courtroom. I have seen some courtrooms through
videos of trials or pictures from high profile cases such as the shooter in Colorado who opened fire in
a movie theater during Batman in 2012 and I have been to a small courthouse in Calvert County
Maryland. The difference between these two courtrooms was the size and number of people present.
At the Boone County Courthouse the room was small and had a large amount of people ready to see
the Judge. Some of the people present included: the Bailiff, who did his job by making sure everyone
had a seat, was situated and quiet during the court ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This sentencing was in response to the multiple times this gentleman was charged with the same
crime.
The difference between the Bonne County court and the Calvert County court is the size and how
quickly cases where moved through the system. In the Calvert County courtroom I sat and watched
the cases where processed slow and meticulous even the requests for a change of date moved slowly.
While in attendance in Calvert County I heard the judge ask how defendants mothers or families
where and even postpone court dates or sentencing so farmers could bring crops in or so people could
attend family functions. Even the sentencing was odd back home people could get sentenced to just
weekends or even just nights in jail I heard one sentence where someone had to spend every weekend
in jail for the next year, which I thought was strange but the judge said after the sentence that it was to
keep the farms working. In Boone County the courtroom seemed more formal and less personal than a
small town. The judge only cared for the rule of law and not about family matters or the occupation of
the defendant and this is the way a judge should act in my opinion. The personal approach that judges
take in Calvert County compared to Boone County is more influential than an impersonal approach
because people do not want to be seen as just a number. A friend of mine who saw his day in court in
Calvert County said that the judge was very friendly and

I Want To Be Opening Page
1. Opening Credits I Don t Want To Be by Gavin DeGraw I chose this specific song as my opening
credits because it is one of my favorite songs from my favorite TV show, One Tree Hill. Every time I
watched this show on Netflix, I never skipped the intro because of this song. It always has a way of
putting me in a good mood and singing to the top of my lungs. The beat isn t the only thing that draws
me to this song, the lyrics have such a positive meaning describing how I can be anything I want to be.
In high school it s all about deciding what you want to be when you graduate and for many of us, that

The Media’s Negative Influence on Society
The Media s Negative Influence on Society There is a lot of controversy about how the media affects
people, but in my opinion I think the influence we get is more negative than positive. The media is one
of the things that impact people the most because in today s society it is impossible to ignore. It
influences the ways in which we dress, speak, act and think. Media is fed to us through movies,
television, radio, social media, music, and magazines. I believe mass media is pressuring the way
woman and girls want to look, twists reality, and is sexist towards woman without people even
realizing. I think the most dominant affect the media has is on young women. The number one
message the media sends is that all females must be skinny to ... Show more content on

A teenager s main source of information about sex comes from what they pick up in the media. In
television shows, music videos and video games, dressing skimpy, hooking up, and casual sex is
totally normal. The problem is that there is rarely any mention of protection or STDs. This makes
people in real life forget about those things, which leads to unexpected pregnancies and the spread of
STDs. After the media demands you to be thin, it also wants you to be provocative and sexual, which I
think is completely unrealistic. The media expresses an image, behavior, and lifestyle that are
unrealistic for many people. ANAD says that the perfect body portrayed in advertisements is
possessed naturally by only 5% of American girls. What many people do not understand, is that
celebrities, models, and even News Reporters and broadcasters will not go on screen without altering

Company Culture Influences Behavior Within A Company
Businesses do not exist in a vacuum. It is hard to even imagine one that is completely isolated from
external input. In fact, they are constantly subjected to influence from both the outside and the inside.
In open systems, a relationship exists between a business and its surroundings in which awareness of
that constant input and output is vital. In order for a startup company like Everyday Indulgence to
move forward strategically and become successfully established, its leadership must identify and
consider both internal and external environments.

Using the example of dessert delivery service, Everyday Indulgence, setting the tone within the startup
business is especially important early on, when there are only a few employees. A wide variety of
tasks will be shouldered by a small team of people and there is bound to be a significant learning
curve. Hiring individuals with values that are aligned with the company s is a good start and
continuous training with an ever present owner/manager will further develop employee confidence
and expertise. Mentoring and training employees leads to a desirable output in the form of both
product and service, while poorly trained staff produce the opposite. Communication, written, verbal,

comradery, whereas lack of communication on such a small team will lead to disorganization and a
disconnected feeling among team members. The success or failure of startup companies like Everyday

Early African Civilization Dbq
The early civilizations of Africa were different in many of their cultural traits. One common trait they
did have in common was the importance of trade in their society. Although trade was good for the
African civilizations, there was consequences that followed trading. I will be using documents B, F,
and D to support how early African civilizations had consequences from trading. In document B it
states that, The door of the pavilion is guarded by dogs on an excellent breed... who wear collars of
gold and silver, this quote helps support the idea that Ghana had lots of gold and wealth. One of the
consequences of trading was wealth and power. Wealth and power was a positive consequence that
would help a early African civilization prosper. Wealth and power of Ghana included having golden
swords, trappings, and braiding. This is why document B helps support the idea that early African
civilizations had consequences from trading. Document F is a map that shows the West African trade
network. A consequence of trade from document F is exploitation. Some examples are: in the
civilization of Elmina, they were near salt, gold, slaves, and ivory. These are the things that Elmina
traded with others and how they prospered. In Benin, salt was traded with others. Finally, in the
civilization of Gao, copper, gold, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Compare and Contrast Of Mice and Men Movie and Book Essay
Compare and Contrast Of Mice and Men Movie and Book The classic novel, Of Mice and Men,
written by John Steinbeck was made into a Hollywood Blockbuster in 1992. Directed and acted by
Gary Sinise and John Malkovich, Hollywood took a stab at trying to recreate this literary success. The
novel, which takes place in the 1930 s, follows the lives of two men, George and Lennie, as they try to
attain their dream of owning a farm. George is a smart man who always seems to have things figured
out. Lennie is massive, but has the mind of a young child. George looks after him, but it is not easy
since Lennie always seems to get himself in some kind of trouble. As they struggle towards their
dreams, George and Lennie face obstacles that test ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, in the book George is shown to really hate Curley, whereas in the movie, George doesn t
seem to like Curley too much but he definitely doesn t hate him. Apart from these characters, all the
others are pretty much very similar in both the book and the movie. As well as the movie having some
character differences, some of the scenes were either cut out or added. One of the major differences in
the movie is that Candy never comes into the room when Lennie and Crooks are talking to each other.
This is an important part in the novel because when Candy comes in, Crooks finds about their future
plan wants to get in on the deal. Except this scene is cut short in the movie and Candy never shows up
at Crooks house. Another important part that is changed in the movie is the ending. The movie never
shows Lennie have the illusions of his Aunt Carla and the rabbits lecturing him while he is waiting by
the pond. Also, is seems as though in the movie George doesn t hesitate to shoot Lennie, and it is all
over very quickly. Furthermore, the important scene when Slim tells George, You hadda, George
(107), never happens in the movie, but instead it ends with an image coming from within George s
imagination, a memory of the many happy times that he and Lennie had shared. There are also some
scenes that are added into the movie, but only because the novel is so short, they needed to add things

Persuasive Essay On Prenatal Testing
Title: Everyone Planning to Start a Family Should Do Prenatal Testing
Pregnancy is a time, filled with both wonderful and exciting moments of anticipation. Most
pregnancies result in healthy babies while a small percent of all babies are born with birth defects
regardless of mother s history, exposure to toxic carcinogenic substances, and mother s age. The
decision to have any prenatal testing is usually up to the parents. Prenatal testing is done for many
reasons. In this paper, I endeavor to highlight the most important ones, which are; to check for fetal
abnormalities; make informed decisions before, during and after the pregnancy and to have a piece of
mind! These are the most important reasons. All expectant mothers are entitled to be offered the
option of screening and diagnostic testing during their pregnancies, to determine whether they are at a
higher risk to have a baby with certain types of birth defects or safely carry the pregnancy to term. It is
important to note that, prenatal screening does not only apply to the fetus, but to the mother as well.
Emily Osters (1) says, Prenatal testing is a complicated decision for many women, forcing us to
confront concerns about a disabled child and risks of miscarriage. (Emily Oster)
Assessing maternal conditions to ensure a healthy pregnancy is vital too, although checking fetal
abnormalities precedes.
To check for fetal abnormalities, emotional preparation is required by the expectant parents. This is
performed by the family physician and a genetic counsellor. Genetic counselling is an information
session between you and your partner and a genetic counselor or group of counselors. A genetic
counselor will not make a decision for you. He or she will provide information on tests you might take
and what the results of those tests may indicate (2). It is of paramount importance for new parents to
be aware of the choices available. Having a prenatal test is a decision for you and your family. It is
helpful to discuss these choices with your family doctor or genetic counsellor and sort out any
detected arising issues early. Detection of fetal abnormalities provides an assessment of the risk of
carrying a fetus with

Character Analysis Of Thriller
Thriller analysis
Common storylines
Thriller is a movie genre that is largely dependent on anticipation and suspense, normally the aim of a
good thriller is to keep the audience in suspense and on their toes. In thriller films the protagonist will
always face a highly dangerous situation or villain this lead to a extremely intense and stressful
climax. Thrillers often follow the structure of exposition, rising action, climax, falling action then
resolution. The exposition is the part of the story where everything is calm and where the backstories
of characters are introduced, prior events are shown and the mood is set. Next comes the rising action,
the rising action creates tensions, moves the main plot forward ... Show more content on

villain and rescues the princess, in thriller films this character is stereotypically shown as a male
teenager that is naive but brave and kind, a fantastic example of this is the character of Thomas in the
movie The Maze Runner (2014), the villain is the antagonist his/her job is to oppose the protagonist
and creat conflict with the protagonist, in thriller films the antagonist is often a corrupt and powerful

How Did Ww1 Affect Canada
gained Canada international praise and Canada was able to prove what we could do as a nation and
this led to a more independent Canada. As the countries signed the Treaty of Versailles, Britain
allowed Canada to sign the Treaty of Versailles as well, planting the first seeds of Canadian autonomy.
To conclude, World War I had a major impact on Canadian identity and led to a change in Canadian
independence from Britain. Furthermore, World War I is Canada s most defining moment because of
Canada s war efforts. As stated, the military efforts from Canada were huge and it played a huge role
in the defeat of the Axis. But, it is important to note that it was not just military efforts that Canada put
forth towards its war efforts, there were other factors involved as well. Canada invoked conscription
during this time as part of their war efforts. This even created problems between English and French
Canada. As the romantic idea of war was destroyed when people realized the amount of casualties at
war, many men did not volunteer to go to war themselves. The people who went to war came back in
terrible conditions. In 1917, Sam Hughes stated that only 5% of soldiers were French Canadians and

Legitimacy Of Courts During The Judicial System
Legitimacy of courts has long been an important factor in the judicial system. However, a more recent
concern has been diversity. It is becoming increasingly important for the court to represent those who
it serves. The ECJ s composition remains unreflective of the millions of black and migrant European
Union citizens whom it serves . Judgements of both the domestic courts of England and Wales along
with the European Court of Justice, affect the everyday lives of all EU citizens including those of
minority and underrepresented groups. Outcomes should not be influenced by considerations of
political or financial consequences . Independence is important as it is vital that each judge is able to
decide cases solely on the evidence presented to them by the parties in court. Personal independence is
always necessary to ensure that the judiciary as a whole of both the land or the community remains
independent. In order for the courts to be fully independent, they must represent the diversity of the
people and make decisions in accordance with the law with no other influences. With the growing
influence of the government over the last century it has become increasingly important that the
judiciary fulfils its responsibility to protect the public against unlawful acts of the government. What
has therefore also become increasingly more important is the need for the judiciary to be completely
independent from the government. The evidence suggests that the courts nowadays are not

Culture In The Nacirema
I believe culture is the attitudes and feelings a group of people share. Culture can include practices
like rituals and customs like religion. It is how you eat, drink, and speak. Culture can be either tacit or
explicit. Tacit is very much like an unspoken behavior, it is something people lack words for. Explicit
culture can be spoken or written. No matter what category culture falls into it truly makes us different
from one another. It is everywhere shaping people all around the world every day. The Nacirema May
sound like strange a tribe, but if you read very closely you will notice they are not. Nacirema is
American spelled backwards and latipso is ospital backwards which almost spells hospital. In this
passage the American people are really the ones who are being talked about. All the rituals that are
spoken of describe our everyday life. Bathrooms are described as shrines and medicine cabinets as
charm boxes. Doctors are referred to as medicine men and dentists to holy mouth men as they rid the
mouth of evils. The story of the Nacirema really does make a good point about out how we have a
ridiculous amount of medications, and we take unnecessary trips to the hospital too often. Miner, the
author is trying to illustrate the obsessions of the American people like our obsession with self image

Body Care Products and their Impacts Essay
Body care products. We use them every day. On our hair, on our body, on our face. And, sometimes
but not often, we think about the environmental, ethical and social impacts it has. Nowadays, it s a
standardised idea that it is extremely important to take in these factors when choosing and purchasing
products; however, is it really as important as it is portrayed to be? To come to a conclusion as to
whether or not it is important to think about the environmental, social and ethical impacts when
buying a product, both sides shall be discussed.
The environment is probably one of the most debatable subjects around right now. And yet another
debatable aspect about the impact on the environment is related to the body products. One must be ...

The chemicals used and the consequences related to them are similar to those stated above. Another
factor where body products endanger the environment is when it comes to packaging. Statistics show
that in fact body products make up a third of all landfill waste. The packaging being non bio
degradable is left lying in landfills, waiting for hundreds of years to break down. With enough threats
to the environment, is there really need to worsen its condition even more? As can be seen above, the
environmental impact of body products is quite profound. Body products that go into the ocean can
also cause dangerous consequences to the eco system, especially to the organism living there. Even
the packaging of body products affects the environment. Therefore, the environmental impacts should
be taken seriously when choosing a body care product.
Yet, some are still doubtful. They think that perhaps they are part of a scheme to scare people with
over exaggerated statistics and dangers. Some believe we are being too paranoid and easily swayed by
what we hear. So are we creating needles worries and stirring a storm out of nothing? Before, we jump
to conclusions too quickly by drawing conclusions from things we hear; we should see the concrete
evidence first. Although there has been lots of research, nothing has been 100% confirmed nor are
they extremely certain the effects are caused by the body care

Paulo Freire The Banking Concept Of Education
Paulo Freire believes that the world is primarily dominated by the banking concept in regards to
education. Under the banking concept, Freire describes the relationship between students and teachers
as involv[ing] a narrating Subject (the teacher) and patient, listening objects (the students) (216).
Freire later goes on to symbolize students as empty receptacles awaiting teachers to dump their
knowledge freely to fill the empty spaces. Memorization, obedience, oppression, and dominance all
describe the inner workings of the banking concept. Students lose their ability to become cogitative
thinkers as they memorize lectures, never speak their voice or dissent to teachers, and give all of their
freedom to their professors. Students then become slaves to the classroom, and rather than a symbiotic
relationship existing between students and teachers, the road is very one way. If Freire were to analyze

molds students to be mindless receptacles awaiting dumped knowledge; reading then is used to soak in
the word count and not the actual meaning behind the piece. In The Banking Concept of Education,
Freire makes an interesting point:
The interests of the oppressors lie in changing the consciousness of the oppressed, not the situation

Rise Of Rome Research Paper
The Great Rise of Rome and Latin In the ancient Italian peninsula, numerous languages were spoken
in many different regions. The most influential, extending to modern times, is Latin. Latin was the
vernacular of the region of Latium; the same region that gave rise to the remarkable city of Rome.
Rome was perhaps the greatest empire to have taken shape in history, exerting an infinite amount of
influence in politics, medicine, civilization, military, and language. While Rome spread her borders,
Latin would soon become the lingua franca of the Mediterranean world and beyond. The war against
the vast Carthaginian Empire that enabled the Romans to rule the known world and establish their

Once language begins to develop, though, humans wrote on anything that would stand still long

For as long as the earth has circled the sun, masses of men have continued to rise and lower
themselves dutifully towards sky and towards earth. Lips have continued to eloquently part,
countenancing sounds that spill out in a fluent mélange of euphoric expressions and sorrows. Pages
have continued to sound as countless, weathered finger tips root through those same yellowing linen

of beating hearts have continued to thrive as the mass have drawn nearer to the parables with which

Research Paper On Brown Dwarfs
The life and death of a star is both interesting and complicated. The formation of a star might not be as
simple as you think. Some stars actually fail to form big enough to ever be seen. You might also
believe that a star will shine forever. However, stars can also lose their energy, causing them to
become other types of formations. Stars can be complex anomalies that can end up in several forms
including neutron stars, brown dwarfs, and white dwarfs. Star formation is a rather simple process.
Gasses in space clump together with dust and rock. Over millions of years these materials begin to
form small orbs. Eventually it the clump will get big enough to create gravity. The core will become
hot from the constant pressure and will use hydrogen to make helium using nuclear fusion. This
fusions creates a tremendous amount of energy creating a fiery ball in space. ... Show more content on

A brown dwarf forms when a star fails to form. This is why brown dwarfs are often referred to as
failed stars . When a star is forming it has to create enough fusion to generate enough energy. Brown
dwarfs do not get large enough to be able to sustain nuclear fusion. These dwarfs are called brown
because even though they do not shine brightly they still have little heat in their core to give it a small
glow. After a brown dwarf has formed it will star in space with its glow of millions of years. White
dwarfs are an effect of small star deaths. White dwarfs form when a star runs out of hydrogen to create
energy with using nuclear fusion. The star s gravity takes over due to no energy pushing back. The star
then becomes extremely dense forcing atoms together. The hot ball is then left in space to cool over
billions of years. No known white dwarf has ever cooled because the universe is only 13.7 billion
years old and some of the first white dwarfs are still thousands of degrees

The Pros And Cons Of Creative Destruction
Joseph Schumpeter was one of the most famous author and economist in the 20th century. Among his
numerous findings, one stands out; creative destruction. Creation refers to disruptive innovation on
one side, while destruction alludes to the disappearance of some jobs, industries or even sectors on the
other. A popular example is transportation. When combustion engines were invented, horse drawn
vehicles suddenly became out of age. On the short term, there was a lot of job destructions too. If
there was no need for horse drawn vehicles, all adjacent sectors were hit hard: horse breeders were
probably left with less demand, horse drawn vehicles companies began to lose their clientele. In
creative destruction, neither does the creation part nor the destruction part happen overnight. Before
being affordable to the masses and cause the economic disruption mentioned above, the auto industry
had to undergo several incremental as opposed to disruptive changes. Eventually, fordism, which has
been a cause of destructive creation as well, came along the way and created millions of jobs in the
auto industry. When one looks at the jobs created directly, indirectly with auto part suppliers, auto
dealers and thanks to new trade opportunities made possible by this new technology, it becomes
obvious that if jobs losses can be painful, on the long run, benefits from creation overweight its
drawbacks. (Creative destruction, Ricardo Caballero, MIT Economics)

The younger you are implanted the better the chances of being able to fully hear are. The older you are
when implanted the less likely the chances of being able to fully hear are. In 2010 it was reported that
over 40 million Americans are older than 65 years old, of those 40 million many will most likely
experience hearing loss. By the year of 2050, the amount of senior citizens will increase by 147%

will be a positive externality. For instance, inoculation and education. In contrast, negative externality
represents by the costs, so if social costs are greater than private costs, there will be a negative

Regulation means that the government sets rules to make it more difficult for firms to produce, for
example, quantity restriction. If companies do not follow the regulation, they have to pay penalty.
Permits means that the government can set a maximum allowed amount, and then it will issue permits
to each firm. Firms can gain by reducing production or using cleaner methods to reduce pollution
because permits can be traded and firms cannot exceed permitted amount. Tax is also a good way to
remedy negative externalities. The government use tax to control the price, meanwhile to reduce the
consumption. In most cases, tax rates of those externalities should equal to the value of the externality.

Trip To Puerto Rico
This J term trip to Puerto Rico has been one of the best experiences of my life. I have encountered so
many incredible people that have made an impact in my life all in ten days time. I have seen so many
unique and beautiful places that have made me fall in love with Puerto Rico. Being able to see the
East and West coast sides of the island allowed me to have a better understanding of the culture and
ethnicity of the people. Although Puerto Rico is poorer than any U.S state, it has cultural practices that
help protect against public health problems. At Costa Salud in Rincón, Puerto Rico, every patient that
checks into the Health Center is screened for alcohol and drugs and if their tests turns out positive then
they are immediately sent

  • 2. Photosynthesis and Respiration All organisms on earth depend on photosynthesis, in which light energy is used to make sugar and other food molecules from carbon dioxide and water. For example, plants and other photo synthesizers need only energy from sunlight, carbon dioxide from air, and water from the soil to make the sugar glucose. Photosynthesis is the most important chemical process on earth because it provides food for virtually all organisms, not only for photo synthesizers but for the organisms that eat them. Plants can capture the energy of the sun by a chemical process called photosynthesis. This chemical reaction can be described by the following simple equation: 6CO2 + 6H2O + light energy = C6H12O6 + 6O2 The product of photosynthesis is a carbohydrate, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The CO2 is converted into malic acid and then converted back to CO2 during the day when light is present, thus producing sugars, while the stomata are closed and greatly reducing water loss. Plants convert the energy from light into simple sugars, such as glucose. This food may be converted back to water and carbon dioxide, releasing the stored energy through a process called respiration. This energy is required for growth in nearly all organisms. Simple sugars are also converted to other sugars and starches (carbohydrates) which may be transported to the stems and roots for use or storage, or they may be used as building blocks for more complex structures, e.g. oils, pigments, proteins, cell walls, etc. Photosynthesis is dependent on the availability of light. In other words, as sunlight increases in intensity photosynthesis increases. This results in greater food production. Many garden crops, such as tomatoes, respond best to maximum sunlight. Tomato production is cut drastically as light intensities drop. Only two or three varieties of greenhouse tomatoes will produce any fruit when sunlight is minimal in fall and spring. Water plays an important role in photosynthesis in several ways. First, it maintains a plant s turgor or the firmness or fullness of plant tissue. Turgor pressure in a cell can be compared to air in an inflated balloon. Water pressure or turgor is needed in plant cells to maintain shape and ensure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Different Styles Of Parenting Essay The two different styles of parenting that are described in the book are concerted cultivation and natural growth. Concerted cultivation is typically seen in the middle class families. Whereas natural growth is mainly seen in the working class families. The book defines concerted cultivation as having Organized activities, established and controlled by mothers and fathers... (Lareau, 2011, p.1). And it defines natural growth as having children experience long stretches of leisure time, child initiated play, clear boundaries between adults and children, and daily interactions with the kin. (Lareau, 2011, p.3). Essentially in concerted cultivation parents are focused in exposing their children in activities that will implement skills that they can use later in life. Some of the skills will be mentioned in the next paragraph. As for the natural growth approach, it is more concerned in letting the child acquire the necessary skills on their own. This parenting style views that the parents do not really impact the skills that the child learns. An example would be thinking that the child s organized activity helps the child have something to do for a certain amount of time. They do not view the child s activities as helping them acquire skills that will help them into adulthood. Throughout the book it has become clear that the differences we are seeing are not due to racial or ethnic background but rather to the parenting style that is implemented to the children. I believe this parable represents a common misconception of our walk with Christ. This parable deals with individuals who are excepted to show compassion that does not and individuals who are least likely to show compassion that actually does. In this passage Jesus teaches the lawyer that everyone is his neighbor; thus meaning he should love everyone, regardless of their situation or social standard. 1. The Setting...why did Jesus tell this parable? Jesus introduced this parable to a Pharisee that was a law expert (lawyer or Scribe). The Pharisee asks Jesus what he must do to earn eternal life. Jesus then allowed the Pharisee to answer his own question by asking what the law said. The Pharisee correctly explained himself by saying love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind. ; and, Love your neighbor as yourself. The lawyer then proceeds to ask who his neighbors were. Jesus replied with The Parable of the Good Samaritan, which teaches God s law of love and how to effectively express it. 2. The Characters Character #1 Jesus was referred to specifically in this parable as a Teacher by the Pharisee. He is also considered to be the storyteller in this specific piece. • 10. Summary Of The Abduction Of Europa The painting I found at the Dallas Museum of Art is a work done by Jean Baptiste Marie Pierre. It is entitled The Abduction of Europa , it is a depiction of an episode coming from the narrative Ovid s Metamorphoses. In this painting, Zeus manifests himself as a bull and comes to lift Europa out of the sea. She then ascends out of the water on the back of the bull into the heavens. This work of art comes to life through its usage of the fundamental elements and principles of art. The usage of the lines in this painting establishes emphasis and develops subtle nuances in the structure of the piece. The figures above the sea: namely the cherubs and the large birdlike figure possess thinly defined lines outlining them. The cherub in the top left corner with the string of flower petals has a long implied line going into the distance. The wings of the birdlike figure in the sky have a horizontal line on the left wing and a curved line on the right wing. This develops the outline and shape of the birdlike creature. The lines that surround the clouds are curved and thinly defined as well. In the bottom, right corner of the painting there is a man whose hand is reached out to touch the chin of the bull. The lines of the rib cage and upper body muscles of this man are very thick. The lines on this man are much more defined than the other people in the painting. This is meant to establish a subtle sense of struggle with this man, while he is attempting to flee the sea. Europa s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I appreciate both stories and feel they both set tales to learn from and live by. As a combined theme for both I ld say human consciousness is more then a gift . And read on to see what I mean. In Erich Fromm we notice a compassionate concern for the unfolding of life. Fromm claims that the growing process of the emergence of the individual from his original ties, a process which we may call individuation, seems to have reached its peak in modern history in the centuries between the Reformation and the present. And that s where Fromm brings our attention to living life . He states that although the animals are living within nature, they at the same time going above it and are conscious of themselves. Which I think is very true. Setting themselves over against nature they have lost their unity and feel unbearably alone, lost, and powerless. This same process can be seen in the development of individual human beings. Each of us initially feels at one with our environment, but then becomes gradually more aware of our individuality. Fromm determines, therefore, that on the one side of the growing process of individuation is the growth of self strength, but on the other side of this process is a growing aloneness. Through political power, Du Bois felt that economic security and material gains could be achieved. But Washington opposed the direct militancy of Du Bois. Washington made the point that the militancy would only serve to upset the whites in the south, which in turn would limit African American voting rights. Much of their differences in suffrage can be understood through their respective backgrounds. Washington was a former slave, so his experiences later affected how he viewed voting. His subservience to his masters as to not upset or cause unnecessary violence is apparent in his pragmatic and slow evolving voting ideals. I have seen some courtrooms through videos of trials or pictures from high profile cases such as the shooter in Colorado who opened fire in a movie theater during Batman in 2012 and I have been to a small courthouse in Calvert County Maryland. The difference between these two courtrooms was the size and number of people present. At the Boone County Courthouse the room was small and had a large amount of people ready to see the Judge. While in attendance in Calvert County I heard the judge ask how defendants mothers or families where and even postpone court dates or sentencing so farmers could bring crops in or so people could attend family functions. Even the sentencing was odd back home people could get sentenced to just weekends or even just nights in jail I heard one sentence where someone had to spend every weekend in jail for the next year, which I thought was strange but the judge said after the sentence that it was to keep the farms working. In Boone County the courtroom seemed more formal and less personal than a small town. The judge only cared for the rule of law and not about family matters or the occupation of the defendant and this is the way a judge should act in my opinion. One of the major differences in the movie is that Candy never comes into the room when Lennie and Crooks are talking to each other. This is an important part in the novel because when Candy comes in, Crooks finds about their future plan wants to get in on the deal. Persuasive Essay On Prenatal Testing Title: Everyone Planning to Start a Family Should Do Prenatal Testing Pregnancy is a time, filled with both wonderful and exciting moments of anticipation. Most pregnancies result in healthy babies while a small percent of all babies are born with birth defects regardless of mother s history, exposure to toxic carcinogenic substances, and mother s age. The decision to have any prenatal testing is usually up to the parents. Prenatal testing is done for many reasons. In this paper, I endeavor to highlight the most important ones, which are; to check for fetal abnormalities; make informed decisions before, during and after the pregnancy and to have a piece of mind! These are the most important reasons. All expectant mothers are entitled to be offered the option of screening and diagnostic testing during their pregnancies, to determine whether they are at a higher risk to have a baby with certain types of birth defects or safely carry the pregnancy to term. It is important to note that, prenatal screening does not only apply to the fetus, but to the mother as well. Emily Osters (1) says, Prenatal testing is a complicated decision for many women, forcing us to confront concerns about a disabled child and risks of miscarriage. (Emily Oster) Assessing maternal conditions to ensure a healthy pregnancy is vital too, although checking fetal abnormalities precedes. To check for fetal abnormalities, emotional preparation is required by the expectant parents. This is performed by the family physician and a genetic counsellor. Genetic counselling is an information session between you and your partner and a genetic counselor or group of counselors. A genetic counselor will not make a decision for you. He or she will provide information on tests you might take and what the results of those tests may indicate (2). It is of paramount importance for new parents to be aware of the choices available. Having a prenatal test is a decision for you and your family. It is helpful to discuss these choices with your family doctor or genetic counsellor and sort out any detected arising issues early. As the countries signed the Treaty of Versailles, Britain allowed Canada to sign the Treaty of Versailles as well, planting the first seeds of Canadian autonomy. To conclude, World War I had a major impact on Canadian identity and led to a change in Canadian independence from Britain. Furthermore, World War I is Canada s most defining moment because of Canada s war efforts. As stated, the military efforts from Canada were huge and it played a huge role in the defeat of the Axis. But, it is important to note that it was not just military efforts that Canada put forth towards its war efforts, there were other factors involved as well. Canada invoked conscription during this time as part of their war efforts. This even created problems between English and French Canada. As the romantic idea of war was destroyed when people realized the amount of casualties at war, many men did not volunteer to go to war themselves. The people who went to war came back in terrible conditions. In 1917, Sam Hughes stated that only 5% of soldiers were French Canadians and that they should go to war as well. • 25. Legitimacy Of Courts During The Judicial System Legitimacy of courts has long been an important factor in the judicial system. However, a more recent concern has been diversity. It is becoming increasingly important for the court to represent those who it serves. The ECJ s composition remains unreflective of the millions of black and migrant European Union citizens whom it serves . Judgements of both the domestic courts of England and Wales along with the European Court of Justice, affect the everyday lives of all EU citizens including those of minority and underrepresented groups. Outcomes should not be influenced by considerations of political or financial consequences . Independence is important as it is vital that each judge is able to decide cases solely on the evidence presented to them by the parties in court. Personal independence is always necessary to ensure that the judiciary as a whole of both the land or the community remains independent. In order for the courts to be fully independent, they must represent the diversity of the people and make decisions in accordance with the law with no other influences. With the growing influence of the government over the last century it has become increasingly important that the judiciary fulfils its responsibility to protect the public against unlawful acts of the government. What has therefore also become increasingly more important is the need for the judiciary to be completely independent from the government. The evidence suggests that the courts nowadays are not ... It is how you eat, drink, and speak. Culture can be either tacit or explicit. Tacit is very much like an unspoken behavior, it is something people lack words for. Explicit culture can be spoken or written. No matter what category culture falls into it truly makes us different from one another. It is everywhere shaping people all around the world every day. The Nacirema May sound like strange a tribe, but if you read very closely you will notice they are not. Nacirema is American spelled backwards and latipso is ospital backwards which almost spells hospital. In this passage the American people are really the ones who are being talked about. All the rituals that are spoken of describe our everyday life. Bathrooms are described as shrines and medicine cabinets as charm boxes. Doctors are referred to as medicine men and dentists to holy mouth men as they rid the mouth of evils. The story of the Nacirema really does make a good point about out how we have a ridiculous amount of medications, and we take unnecessary trips to the hospital too often. And, sometimes but not often, we think about the environmental, ethical and social impacts it has. Nowadays, it s a standardised idea that it is extremely important to take in these factors when choosing and purchasing products; however, is it really as important as it is portrayed to be? To come to a conclusion as to whether or not it is important to think about the environmental, social and ethical impacts when buying a product, both sides shall be discussed. The environment is probably one of the most debatable subjects around right now. And yet another debatable aspect about the impact on the environment is related to the body products. One must be ... The packaging being non bio degradable is left lying in landfills, waiting for hundreds of years to break down. With enough threats to the environment, is there really need to worsen its condition even more? As can be seen above, the environmental impact of body products is quite profound. Body products that go into the ocean can also cause dangerous consequences to the eco system, especially to the organism living there. Even the packaging of body products affects the environment. Therefore, the environmental impacts should be taken seriously when choosing a body care product. Yet, some are still doubtful. They think that perhaps they are part of a scheme to scare people with over exaggerated statistics and dangers. Some believe we are being too paranoid and easily swayed by what we hear. So are we creating needles worries and stirring a storm out of nothing? Under the banking concept, Freire describes the relationship between students and teachers as involv[ing] a narrating Subject (the teacher) and patient, listening objects (the students) (216). Freire later goes on to symbolize students as empty receptacles awaiting teachers to dump their knowledge freely to fill the empty spaces. Memorization, obedience, oppression, and dominance all describe the inner workings of the banking concept. Students lose their ability to become cogitative thinkers as they memorize lectures, never speak their voice or dissent to teachers, and give all of their freedom to their professors. Students then become slaves to the classroom, and rather than a symbiotic relationship existing between students and teachers, the road is very one way. If Freire were to analyze ... • 35. Research Paper On Brown Dwarfs The life and death of a star is both interesting and complicated. The formation of a star might not be as simple as you think. Some stars actually fail to form big enough to ever be seen. You might also believe that a star will shine forever. However, stars can also lose their energy, causing them to become other types of formations. Stars can be complex anomalies that can end up in several forms including neutron stars, brown dwarfs, and white dwarfs. Star formation is a rather simple process. Gasses in space clump together with dust and rock. Over millions of years these materials begin to form small orbs. Eventually it the clump will get big enough to create gravity. The core will become hot from the constant pressure and will use hydrogen to make helium using nuclear fusion. This fusions creates a tremendous amount of energy creating a fiery ball in space. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A brown dwarf forms when a star fails to form. This is why brown dwarfs are often referred to as failed stars . When a star is forming it has to create enough fusion to generate enough energy. Brown dwarfs do not get large enough to be able to sustain nuclear fusion. These dwarfs are called brown because even though they do not shine brightly they still have little heat in their core to give it a small glow. After a brown dwarf has formed it will star in space with its glow of millions of years. White dwarfs are an effect of small star deaths. White dwarfs form when a star runs out of hydrogen to create energy with using nuclear fusion. The star s gravity takes over due to no energy pushing back. The star then becomes extremely dense forcing atoms together. The hot ball is then left in space to cool over billions of years. • 36. The Pros And Cons Of Creative Destruction Joseph Schumpeter was one of the most famous author and economist in the 20th century. Among his numerous findings, one stands out; creative destruction. Creation refers to disruptive innovation on one side, while destruction alludes to the disappearance of some jobs, industries or even sectors on the other. A popular example is transportation. When combustion engines were invented, horse drawn vehicles suddenly became out of age. On the short term, there was a lot of job destructions too. If there was no need for horse drawn vehicles, all adjacent sectors were hit hard: horse breeders were probably left with less demand, horse drawn vehicles companies began to lose their clientele. In creative destruction, neither does the creation part nor the destruction part happen overnight. Before being affordable to the masses and cause the economic disruption mentioned above, the auto industry had to undergo several incremental as opposed to disruptive changes. Eventually, fordism, which has been a cause of destructive creation as well, came along the way and created millions of jobs in the auto industry. When one looks at the jobs created directly, indirectly with auto part suppliers, auto dealers and thanks to new trade opportunities made possible by this new technology, it becomes obvious that if jobs losses can be painful, on the long run, benefits from creation overweight its drawbacks.
