Analysis Of Henrik Ibsen s A Doll House
The production of any theatrical performance is an assembly of creativity, interpretation, and
collaboration. Typically, the task of imagining and guiding the integration of all these elements
belongs to the director. One of the toughest tasks of a director is to reinvigorate a socially important
and renowned production while maintaining its original message and composition. Henrik Ibsen s A
Doll House is a socially important realistic play that portrays the gender dynamics that plagued the
nineteenth century and questions the expectations held for women in a household and society. The
play is still incredibly influential because the issues it addresses are still prevalent decades later. The
original play is so accredited and well known that directors face a tough challenge of trying to
reconstruct it in a memorable way. One director, Lee Breuer, attempted to do so in his Mabou Mines
DollHouse production. In agreement with Elinor Fuchs review, through creative directorial decisions
on setting, casting, and music, Breuer uniquely reignited the fire in Ibsen s play without drifting from
the original message. Before discussing the specific stylistic decisions Breuer took to reconstruct and
modernize Ibsen s play, it is important to obtain a clear definition of reconstruction in theater, which is
different from other forms of reconstruction. Generally, reconstruction is the rebuilding of something
that has been broken. However, it would not be fair to say that Ibsen s A Doll

Coming Of Age By Anne Moody
The famous leader Martin Luther King once said, Being a Negro in America means trying to smile
when you want to cry. It means trying to hold on to physical life amid psychological death. It means
the pain of watching your children grow up with clouds of inferiority in their mental skies. It means
having their legs off, and then being condemned for being a cripple. This quote pretty much summed
up the way in which African Americans felt during the 1960 s. They had basically no meaning to life.
They were irrelevant. Whites wanted no part in them. This was especially the case in the state of
Mississippi. Anne Moody, writer of the autobiography, Coming of Age in Mississippi explains the
importance of the civil rights movement in the state of Mississippi and the influence it had on her life
and her viewpoint.
Growing up as a poor African American in Mississippi was not always an easy, especially in the 1960
s. It was a time where everyone was segregated. Blacks and whites were treated completely different.
They weren t allowed to eat at the same restaurants, go into the same bathroom, or even drink from the
same water fountain. Anne Moody did just that. As just a young girl being raised by extremely poor
black family in the South, she personally experienced the difference between the lives of blacks and
whites. She was growing up in the middle of the civil rights movement, where African American
struggled everyday. At a very young age Moody became challenged by many instances

Summary Of Bryan Caplan s Book, The Topic Of Rational...
The topic that I have chosen regarding Bryan Caplan s book is the topic of rational ignorance. Bryan
Caplan defines rational ignorance as a voter s belief that one vote has a small probability of changing
the outcome of an election. Several voters are rationally ignorant, myself included, which after reading
The Myth of the Rational Voter: Why Democracies Choose Bad Policies I have to ask myself why
even vote at all other than it is considered by some to be a civic duty. If voters are so ignorant then it
would be impossible for them to even make an attempt at an informed decision. Informed decisions
might be only reached by a small percentage of the population, but because of the miracle of
aggregation a democracy can work. According to Caplan aggregation can only work if the voters do
not make systematic errors (Caplan pg.7). That is their errors have to be random. Caplan uses the
analogy on page 7 that if the voters have the choice between a Unabomber and another candidate the
Unabomber will win only 50 percent of the time assuming there is 100 percent voter ignorance
(Caplan pg.7). However, in a democracy there is no such thing as 100 percent voter ignorance so the
Unabomber s chances of winning 50 percent of the time will drop even lower. Systematically biased
views are held by those voters who are considered to be rationally irrational. To empirically prove the
systematical biased views Caplan uses the results from the Survey of Americans and Economists on
the

George Berkeley s Response To Materialism
George Berkeley seeks to prove that everything there is, is a mind or a mind s contents . His overall
goal consists of arguing against materialism in an attempt to promote idealism instead. Berkeley does
this by introducing his likeness objection , in opposition to the traditional representation theory of
perception. Another approach that Berkeley takes in describing the lack of distinction between
primary and secondary qualities. I, however, believe that his likeness objection and his thoughts
towards primary and secondary qualities is not as convincing as he honestly thinks it is, and that its
usage could potentially help promote materialism instead of dismantling it. In order to fully explain
how I believe the likeness objection is ineffective, I will present three sections worth of information.
In section one, I will state Berkeley s approach to idealism and how he integrates his likeness
objection into it; in section two, I will put forth my thoughts and claims about the matter; and in
section three, I will anticipate one possible criticism and respond to that criticism accordingly. Section
I Berkeley s advocacy of idealism stemmed from the different definition that ... Show more content on

And what do we perceive besides our own ideas or sensations? And is it not plainly repugnant that any
one of these or any combination of them should exist unperceived? In an effort to anticipate any
criticism that his argument might obtain, Berkeley plans to respond to what someone might say if they
were to support a representational theory of perception. A representationalist might suggest that
Berkeley s argument is invalid because premise one could only be true his idea of perceive is being
used indirectly, and premise two could only be true if perceive is being directly

Similarities Between My Papa s Waltz And Do Not Go Gentle...
The feelings directed towards the fathers in the poems My Papa s Waltz and Do not go gentle into that
goodnight have both similar and constrasting views. In the poem My Papa s Waltz, the boy speaks of
his father in a disappointed way by saying that he smelled alcohol on his father s breath and his ears
kept being scraped by his dad s belt while his father carlessly danced with him. In this poem, the
father is potrayed as not one of the greatest father figures that there is. On the other hand, in the poem
Do not go gentle into that goodnight, the son is speaking of wise men, strong men, and so forth. He
states that when it s their time to face death, they don t go down without a fight. The language in the
poem potrays the son s limitless

Pros And Cons Of Creating The Budget
I was assigned to cut the budget for year 1 and year 2 by $750,000 (total of $1.5 million over 2 years)
by the CEO. I took a comprehensive look at the budget and my recommendations are that we should
cut the number of participants from 1000 to 910 and let go of 3 staff members. These reductions
would have a cascading effect and help us to cut the budgets of both years by 750,000 dollars.
I believe that the quality of our program is more important than the number of participants we serve.
Consequently, I propose to
decrease the number of participants by 9% (90 participants) for year 1 and year 2. This cut would
cause minimum harm to the program because we would be able to serve the other 910 participants
without decreasing services, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Subsequently, helping us reach our desired program outcomes. The average cost of a certification is
$75 and for our initial budget, we assumed that half of the participants would get these certifications.
In our new budget, this ratio would be maintained, however as we have fewer participants, we would
only need to budget for 455 certifications decreasing our budget by $3,375 for year 1 and year 2.
Another important service that our program offers is background checks. These checks help increase
the number of placements and retentions. Our initial budget reflected that each background check
costs $50 and approximately half of the participants would require a background check. The new
budget for year 1 and year 2 would still maintain the same ratio but due to a decrease in participants,
we would only need to budget for 455 participants. This would help us cut the budget by $2,250 for
year 1 and year 2 without harming the program.
Career advisors are an essential part of our program. Career advisors transitional help participants
during their transitional employment, which is usually for the first 4 6 months of the program. My
recommendation would be to fire 2 of these advisors as this would allow us to decrease our budget by
$80,000 for year 1 and 2. Currently, these advisors serve 500 participants and their maximum
participants to staff ratio is 35:1. Our initial budget

Introgenic government
Topic: Response and Social Policy paper on Iatrogenic Government The response to drug use in
America and in some countries around the world seems to have an interesting history. As the author
Daniel Patrick Moynihan describes the unintended consequences society faces when government does
not deal effectively with issues of drugs in society. He provided several references that shows the
historical and present connections to government interrelations and how many of these decisions have
some form of negative impact and at times causes social breakdown. His historical reference to drug
uses, medicinal properties as well as technology role in our present age does paint a vivid picture of
how government decisions can affect us. Since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus as the author begins to address the issues related to drugs his reference about the government s
approach ring truth The truth in either event is that we were mostly asserting what we did not know
and would need to learn (pg. 353). The author s reference to technology is relevant but I will address
the issue of technology later on as I respond to his summary. The history of drug use represents
lessons that were long been seen but obviously overlooked by doctors as well as pharmaceutical
companies. The earlier efforts by government to regulate drug use or alcohol consumption began with
some regulations on Jamaican rum. Since distilled liquor was used in social events, the government
approaches in regulating the trafficking of the distilled liquor was by levying heavy fines on the
general tariff bill. The cost of importing Jamaican rum was costlier than distilled liquor here in
America. Again, at the time, the government was mostly dealing with the abolition of slavery and
again the issues around alcohol consumption were minimally dealt with. Distilled spirits in earlier
America was part of bringing Americans together during times of unity. It was a time to earn easy
money and have an all around good time (pg. 354). People enjoyed alcohol in the morning for
breakfast as well as a celebratory thing. The government knew that drinking alcohol or distilled liquor
caused some medical issues but again, the

Why Did I Choose George Etienne Cartier
Introduction
Why did I choose George Etienne Cartier?
For my heritage fair I decided to research George Etienne Cartier, who if you haven t heard about was
a lawyer, rebel, politician and railway promoter whose contributions to Confederation were on the
same level as figures like John A. Macdonald and George Brown(Sweeny). If you haven t heard of
any of these people, then don t worry I ll be going into length on all of them, but I ll make sure to
focus from the perspective of George Cartier. Furthermore, if you were wondering why I chose this
topic to research, I would truthfully tell you that the only reason I chose George Etienne Cartier was
because he was as good a topic as anything else, so personally I didn t care about the topic. ... Show

George had 7 siblings and was the seventh child of his parents(Bonenfant), I didn t research much
about his siblings but I did find that one of George s brothers also went into law and was a partner of
Georges during the time he practiced law(Bonenfant). As you can tell probably tell from the name,
George Etienne Cartier came from French background and lived in Lower Canada which was mainly
French, he came from a relatively wealthy family of grain exporters and millers(Sweeny). Which
possibly influenced his views towards Confederation after the repeal of the Corn Laws, but that s a
subject for later, when we understand more about George s involvement with Confederation. Another
thing that could have influenced George about Confederation was that the fact that he was born around
the same time as the War of 1812, which again is a subject for later. As we know George came from a
wealthy family, which allowed him to live a relatively comfortable life, it also allowed him to be able
to access educational opportunities. He studied at the Sulpician College of Montreal, afterwards he
studied law and politics(Sweeny), he was also able to learn more about law while working under
Edouard Rodier, a Montreal Lawyer who was involved with various rebel groups in Lower
Canada(Bonenfant). While studying to become a lawyer, George Cartier almost certainly was exposed

Essay about Persuasion in 12 Angry Men
In his article, The Necessary Art of Persuasion , Jay Conger stated that persuasion is NOT about
selling or convincing; rather, it is a learning and negotiating process. Good persuaders use and listen to
ongoing and active discussions (or debates) to learn about their audience and include different
opinions into a shared conclusion. In the movie 12 Angry Men , juror number 8 (Henry Fonda) was
not sure if evidence presented against a young defendant in court left reasonable doubt for a guilty
conviction. The other jurors believed the presented facts and the defendant s background warrants a
guilty conviction. The movie showed how juror number 8 persuasively got the other jurors to review
each fact logically, which led to an unanimous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is critical to identify the tangible benefits and values that really matters to people being persuade.
Effective persuaders consider what is important to an audience and lays his or her position to match
common ground with the audience. This is a give and take process. Effective persuaders also use
testimonies, past and current research, etc and readjust their argument to make them appealing to their
audience. Persuaders must know an audience well enough to know what will capture their immediate
and continued attention.
Juror number 8 was in a situation where there is no common ground between him and the other jurors.
All are from diverse backgrounds and uncomfortably brought together to deliberate the facts in an
open and shut murder trial. Juror number 8, wanting to just talk , kept reconsidering and adjusting his
position with the other juror s positions about the defendant until a common was reach in the
deliberation. Again, this is a give and take process and is effective if properly done right.
The third essential step is presenting evidence to an audience. Conger stated that evidence alone will
not convince an audience to support a position or an idea. Evidence can appear too abstract and not
entirely informative. Persuaders, Conger noted, use stories, metaphors, analogies, examples, etc and
use vivid language skillfully to paint a compelling big picture of their point of view. This approach is
far more effective than stating facts in

Summary Of American Jewry
The American Civil War was, with the exception of the presence of Loyalists during the American
Revolution, the only time in American history that neighbor turned against neighbor in both
widespread physical violence and enmity of the heart. This was true of the entire nation, but even
more so of American Jewry. American Jewry was a very small percentage of the American population
at the start of the war in 1861. During the conflict it was forced to confront its own differences during
the Civil War; the politics, policies and emotions of the war acting as a great revealer which exposed
the fractured unity of the tiny ethno religious group in America. While the war exposed this fracturing,
it simultaneously exposed the commonalities that American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In his chapter The Rabbis and the Slavery Question , Bertram Wallace Korn notes how Judaism s
religious ideals and principles were interpreted in widely disparate ways when a crucial issue faced the
entire nation ; in the case of the Civil War that is interpreted according to geographic sentiments and
the ideologies that went along with them(slavery). With the exception of New York City, whose
general sentiments regarding slavery went along with the anti abolitionist sermons of Dr. Morris J.
Raphall and articles of Mordecai M. Noah, Northern Jewry tended to be abolitionist while Southern
followed their Christian neighbor s in extolling the virtues of slavery. The reason for this kind of
outlook is not surprising in the least, as any minority people will invariably take up the majority
culture as a means of survival. However, Jews were [possibly] more prone to this throughout their stay
in the early United States, as Rabbinic Judaism has always championed that the law of the land is the
law when living in the diaspora; a teaching which would ultimately justify the beliefs and actions of
both sides to themselves. In Shifting Veils , Diane Ashton posits that especially in the nineteenth
century Jews throughout the United States borrowed and adopted the attitudes common to the regions
in which they lived . For years prior to the Civil War no Jew wanted to appear disloyal to their
majority Christian neighbors (many of whom regarded them with suspicion) or to their country, and as
such did everything they could to adopt the culture and beliefs of their region [either out of sincere
belief or desire to blend in ]. A state of war only heightened the differences within American Jewry
that had been present all along, and pushed them forth into the wider

Neutrophils Research Paper
Once any bleeding is under control, chemotaxis occurs and inflammatory cells migrate into the wound
and promote the inflammatory phase, which is characterised by the successive influx of neutrophils,
macrophages and lymphocytes.
Neutrophils start with the critical task of destroying and removing bacteria, foreign particles and any
remaining damaged tissue. This phagocytic activity is crucial as bacterial imbalance within acute
wounds causes the wound to stop healing. Neutrophils are attracted to the site of injury within 24 36
hours by pro inflammatory cytokines including TGF β. Neutrophils are one of the most abundant cells
of the immune system and they are extremely active during the repair of cutaneous wounds. In

A Brief Note On Contingency Management ( Cm )
c. Contingency management (CM) is a treatment that uses a systematic method of changing behavior
by modifying through consequences. It maintains that behavior has a type of repetitiveness and can be
altered by using a system of negative and positive reinforcement. These negative and positive types of
consequences, if administered consistently, can result in behaviorally changes. CM is structured
around four core principles; routine drug testing is arranged by the clinician to detect if clients been
using specific substance regularly, if abstinence is proven the clinician implements positive
reinforcement, which is accepted by the client and clinician, if a positive for drugs is disclosed the
clinician denies the clients reward that was agreed upon, a negative test rewards the client with what
was agreed upon. CM is an approach that is best focused on a targeted behavior such as; substance
abstinence, treatment plan adherence, consistency with medication, continuous individual and group
presence, and completion of specific goals. There is an assortment of reinforcement techniques that
are available to use with CM like; currency, rewards, tokens, concessions, and other prizes. I would
use the CM method when a client that denies that he is consuming any alcohol but shows signs of the
substance abuse. This would be a good method for those who do better when they receive a reward
that would more likely motivate them to accept change. Keeping the client occupied and on a roll

Soon the Fatherland had recovered from its deep economic slump, and before long the massive rise in
nationalism led Germany to war. By 1942 Hitler seemed indestructible and the world seemed at his

would be unavoidable for the two to collide in war. Like Germany, the Soviet Union had established a
new nation and created a large military power in the aftermath of World War I. Czarist Russia had
converted into the immense Soviet Union and transformed into a world superpower also in the wake

Analysis Of The Journey Song Dont Stop Believin
The Journey song Don t Stop Believin is one of the band s most famous songs, and arguably their
magnum opus. However, the song itself goes deeper than its literal meaning, and tackles the theme of
finding your identity, following your dreams, and doing what you re passionate about. The name of
the song, Don t Stop Believin , follows its overall message and conveys it to listeners in a way that
they will understand its themes regardless of whether they are listening closely and trying to break it
down, or just singing along.
The first two stanzas read:
Just a small town girl
Livin in a lonely world
She took the midnight train
Goin anywhere
Just a city boy
Born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train
Goin anywhere
The first two lines of each stanza, Just a small town girl / Livin in a lonely world (1.1 2) and Just a city
boy / Born and raised in South Detroit (2.1 2), describe two different people from two different
settings, who are supposedly united when they take the midnight train goin anywhere . The midnight
train referred to in each stanza might be symbolic for some common goal, or it might be more literal,
as two different people take a train in search of something new in their lives.
The third stanza reads:
A singer in a smoky room
The smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

Effects of Outsourcing
What is outsourcing? We have all heard the term thrown around but what does it really mean?
Outsourcing is defined as contracting, sub contracting, or externalizing non core activities to free up
cash, personnel, time, and facilities for activities where the firm holds competitive
advantage(BD,09).Outsourcing happens when company s choose to purchases their needed products
and or services from an outside supplier ( mainly other countries), rather than doing the same work
within their own facilities.
Why companies outsource.
The main reason companies outsource is because it saves them money. Many different types of jobs
are outsourced, IT, telecommunications, auto manufacturers, physicians and so on. Outsourcing by

I then realized that this person wasn t in America and when I asked him where he was located he

offer up ideas on how company s could still keep the majority of their work in America while still

members of hippie subculture visitors began to increase dramatically. A decade later, 1970s Nepal was
one of the very popular spots for holiday makers and cultural tourist. A few decades later, in 1990s the
Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) was established. According to Naturally Nepal organisation they
mentioned in report that, Nepal Tourism Board had started in 1998 in the form of partnership between
the private tourism industry and government of Nepal . They also mentioned that this group will work
to develop the tourist destination in Nepal for to attract more tourists.

Pow 3 Rectangles
Problem statement:
What you are trying to find is how many rebounds and in what corner will a pool ball land. Each shot
will start at the lower left corners and will always start moving at a 45 degree angle. The table is a
rectangle with pockets in each of the four corners. The pool table has whole number dimensions. I am
trying to figure out the patterns or formulas for the pool table.
Process:
I first started making squares and rectangles on a graph paper, and did this in a group of three. Then I
started drawing lines at a 45 degree angle, if they hit one of the sides of the wall then I would keep on
drawing the lines at a 45 degree angle until the ball would go into one of the pockets. If you wouldn t
keep on drawing lines until ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But the one thing that I didn t quite get to is the super solution but all of my mini solutions work for all
sorts of rectangles. My solutions were two of the same numbers always equal zero. I know that this
works because if you do a 6 by 6 you would get 0 rebounds. A number and one are always the number
subtracted by one. If you do a 4 by 1 you would get 3 rebounds. If the dimensions can be reduced to ½
then the rebound will be one. For example, an 8 by 4 has one rebound. If the dimensions have a two in
it, then the other number is the number of rebounds that you have. For example, If you had a 7 by 2
there would be 7 rebounds. You take the first dimension and add it to the second dimension and
subtract it by 2. This one works for most of them but not all of them. For example, if you had a 9 by 7
then there would be 14 rebounds. The ball never lands in the corner, it was shot from. I looked at all
the pictures that I drew to figure out the formulas and noticed that the corner the ball was hit from,
never ever landed in the corner that it was hit from. Finally, if there are 0 rebounds then the ball will
land in the corner diagonal from the corner it was shot. I figured this out by looking at the rebounds
and pictures that I drew for the 0 rebounds. Those were all of the formulas and patterns that I found.
This is a one by one which has 0

Noise Sensitivity Essay
For many people, noises in the environment may not be an annoyance, but for others who are noise
sensitive it can have several numbers of negative effects. There are some cause effects such as
difficulties concentrating in the classroom, at work, and/or personal life. It can also go as far as
causing internal organs damage. For example, the learning process of a child facing this disorder could
be more difficult, according to Tremmel a child s brain has to work overtime in a noisy classroom to
do its typical, but, very important job of distinguishing sounds whose subtle differences are the key to
success with language and reading . Even though, from early age people learn how to localize and
identify different sounds that will help them throughout their life, there are some people that suffer
from noise sensitivity and it can make their life a bit hard, because certain functions of their brain can
be affected. Noise Sensitivity (NS) is a physiological and psychological internal state in which the
noise level of certain things can be uncomfortable for an individual in doing their daily tasks. In the
research paper by Kliuchko, et al. (2016), he states that the human ear and brain come together to
adapt to the acoustic environment and that the auditory cortex can adapt in a way that can be tolerated
for each individual . In another study done by Dr. Schnupp s from the research team at the University
of Oxford has been found that the auditory neurons in the brain are

Braveheart Speech: In depth Analysis Regarding Figurative Language Braveheart is a historical drama
epic film from 1995. The film was nominated for ten Academy Awards and won five. The film is non
fictional and depicts the events of William Wallace, a Scottish hero who led the Scots during the First
War of Scottish Independence against England. However, despite the historical inaccuracies cited by
critics, the film was intriguing and successful considering the box office success and award
nominations as mentioned earlier. Throughout the film, Wallace inspires his comrades using rhetoric

And I see a whole army of my countrymen here in defiance of tyranny (Braveheart). In this statement,
Wallace uses rhetoric to address the crowd. Metonymy is used in this sentence, the use of the term
tyranny substitutes what they are actually fighting against on the battlefield, which are the English.
Wallace uses the word tyranny because in the film, the English were ruling over the Scottish and the
customs in which they ruled, the Scottish saw it as tyranny. The term tyranny establishes logos
because it provides the audience reason for what they are about to fight and possibly die for. There is
also an appeal to pathos in this sentence because a term like tyranny carries a negative connotation
along with it. Kenneth S. Zagacki, a professor in communications at North Carolina State University
and Patrick Boleun Fitzgerald, a professor in philosophy at Lawrence University explain this
phenomenon: Emotions like anger are important to Aristotle s theory of Rhetoric, although it is
important to understand that there is a distinction between the emotional state of anger and angry
rhetoric. Angry rhetoric, however it is performed publicly, tries to evoke anger in one s audience, as
Aristotle himself demonstrates (4). In this case, a powerful term like tyranny creates that anger
because of its meaning and

Personally, I have experienced this in my own life. Although I do not use social media, I have used
Google Hangouts on occasion. When using Hangouts, I have found myself chatting superficially about
random issues with my friends and not truly making friendships. At times, I have spent time with other
people, almost all of them texting away on their phones, oblivious to their surroundings. Also, people
tend to project a superficial image of their lives that makes their lives seem wonderful and perfect.
Sometimes, this can lead others to feel depressed that their lives seem so much worse. Relationships
encapsulate much more that what social media provides. Thirdly, technology presents dangers to
online security. Nowadays, the threat of cyberattacks exists in a very real way. Since technology
dominates culture, hackers can possibly access virtually everyone s personal information. Over four
billion people had their identities stolen last year according to the Business Insider (Cole). In addition,
sixty four percent of Americans have experienced some form of data theft, according to the Pew

separate in a huge crowd of people and Forrester has an anxiety attack since he does not know how to
live a life outside of his house. Forrester leaving his house in the first place, takes a lot of courage
since he does not know what was going to happen. It is a challenge for him then to be all alone instead
of with Jamal. His courage was tough to build up, as Jamal found, but eventually he gains the courage
to hop back into the real world. According to Movielocity (2001), Compelled to look past skin color

Elizabeth Bennet In Pride And Prejudice
Despite the radical behaviour of Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen would not be
consider a feminist by today s standards. Viewing what meant to be a feminist in Austen s time, how
the main character of the novel illustrated that feminism, what feminism is today we can see how
Austen would not be consider a feminist.
Main Point: How the ____ of the moment implied in Austen s women s equality point of view
To understand what was declared major steps towards women equality at that time, we first need to
look at the inequalities that caused gender discrimination. In the 18th century the social role of women
was confined to housekeeping. Early in the 1800 s women were not allowed to continue school after
grammar school. Women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Austen proved this by having her rejecting Collin s proposal which prevented her from having the
state where her family lived her whole live, and by rejecting Darcy s first proposal that also would
have accommodate and ameliorated her family situation. She then accepted Darcy s proposal only at
the end when she found out she loved him and he respected her. Even though this are progressive
views, our main heroine did not think only of marrying for love as she also admitted she wouldn t
marry a poor man the mortifying conviction that handsome young men must have something to live
on as well as the plain (26.28). Another time when Elizabeth went against the social norm is at her
visit to Netherfield when she walked destroying her dress and appearing covered in mud, something
rather shocking for a lady from upper middle class. And then again; she feels ashamed for Lydia, a
fifteen years old girl at the beginning of the story, running of with Wickham and the couple end up
marrying because Darcy forced too and he did this for elizabeths which made her fall in love even
more, and feels relieved because the family s reputation is saved in the end.
Elizabeth reflects Austen point of view in feminism and because of their radical nature, can be taken
as feminism of the 18th

Comparing the Two Versions of A Butterfly by William...
Comparing the Two Versions of A Butterfly by William Wordsworth
William Wordsworth wrote two versions of the poem To A Butterfly, one in March, the other in April.
In reading the poems, the situation presented is obviously the same, only interpreted differently and
reflected differently. As Wordsworth himself said about poetry: it is the spontaneous overflow of
powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquillity: the emotion is
contemplated till by a species of reaction the tranquillity gradually disappears. Both versions of the
poem are about the memory that the sight of a butterfly brings back, not so much a memory but a
feeling the poet gets upon seeing this butterfly. In the first version of ... Show more content on

In the last two lines, we learn that the memory is not of the two of them together, but primarily of his
sister, Emmeline, who feared to brush the dust from off its wings. The memory seems like it should be
a happy one, but the language of the beginning of the poem tells us otherwise, and we are left
wondering what has happened between the memory and now. The tone of the second poem, the April
poem, is quite different from that of the first. Here, the poet does not impose his own thoughts and
impressions upon the butterfly, but simply observes it, and wonders about the natural life of a
butterfly. He thinks of what it would be like to be a butterfly, thoughts that would put one in a fanciful
mood, not a somber one. If the butterfly happened to take flight in the April poem, I think the poet
would be happy about this (compare lines 7 9 of the April poem to lines 1 2 of the March poem). The
next stanza is very important in differentiating between the uneasy sort of reflective mood of the
March poem, because it describes the orchard ground as theirs, his and his sister s together, showing
us that nothing bad has happened to her (an idea I got from the March poem). He tells the butterfly
that it is welcome in their orchard whenever it would like to rest, and they would like to see him often.
Lines 16 19 describe the conversations they will have (before, in the March poem, the conversation he
finds in the butterfly brings a solemn

Condoms And Birth Control
Although most parents frown upon their children having sex, safe sex is still important, which is why
condoms and birth control should not be permitted by the parents. For centuries now, most parents
have made a point that sex is forbidden until marriage or until they have moved out the house. The
effect of that, teens are very reluctant about letting their parents know that they are sexually active. So,
why would a teen ask a parent to set them up on birth control, knowing they don t allow sex in the first
place? They would not, unless they had some kind of death wish. It is a tough situation, with a non
win win solution. It s either they sneak around their parents back and have unprotected sex, and

First off, in this world of 2017, sex is one of the biggest topics that stays trending. It is on television,
in magazines, books and even in commercials. It is a tight subject to be on, and your outlook on it can
either make or break how people even look at you. So, if a teen is to get in a relationship, or maybe
even just a fling, sex will be brought up soon. A teen who will stay sex free in this generation will
more than likely suffer for social insecurities, self esteem issues and could even become sexually
confused. Since the teen is not able to express his or her sexuality when needed, they bottle it up and
keep it inside, causing mixed feelings on what sex should and should not be like. In the future, this
could cause problems between whomever they marry. They never got to express it, therefore they don
t know what they like until it is too late, which could also cause early divorce as well. The teen will
also soon grow sexually frustrated, and irritable. Fighting normal sexual urges, while dealing with
hormones can take a lot out on the brain, causing them to lash out, and push others away. The teen will
then find another way to relieve stress and express themselves, which could be very violent or illegal.
Not to mention the social insecurities they will endure during their teen years. Obeying your parents
and staying a virgin is looked down upon by many peers and

The Theme Of Slavery In Beloved By Toni Morrison

Sixty million and more, is the inscription at the beginning of the novel Beloved written by Toni
Morrison. It referred to the number of slaves killed from the time of the Middle Passage. In naming
the number so starkly, not saying anything further about it, Morrison pays testament to the horrendous
crime of the slave trade and the genocide it engendered. Through this epigraph, the author reminded
her readers of the frightening history of the slaves. I will call them my people, Which were not my

like Margaret Garner, having children was more a curse than a blessing. Female slaves were treated as

Importance Of Self Reflection In Fielding s Diary Helen...
Self reflection is something everyone does on a day to day basis. The way a person thinks about their
self really alters their personality, but that is not the only thing it affects. Through self reflection a
person can exacerbate insecurities. Insecurities tend to be an obstacle when it comes to love. Self
reflection can have a positive or negative affect on one s love life. In the novel Bridget Jones s Diary
Helen Fielding s main character Bridget, writes about how there are many things about her lifestyle
that she would like to change. In fact, majority of her storyline involves countless references to her
insecurities, which is not healthy. To many, Bridget is known as a sexist portrayal of pathetic,
desperate woman, while to others she is looked at as a feminist icon. The novel demonstrates the
themes self reflection and insecurities so well, because it is about an insecure girl who is just looking
for love, but doesn t quite love herself just yet. Fielding entwines these two themes to show how
women perceive themselves through self reflection and how much it impacts their self esteem. Her
main character, Bridget demonstrates how hard it is to be a girl in today s society because we are so
brainwashed by what we are supposed to be.
Bridget is a very lonely girl that drinks heavily and smokes cigarettes often. In fact, at the top of every
diary entry she lists what her alcohol intake and cigarette count is, along with her weight, and her

The Conflict Between The United States And Other Countries...
Both Israelis and Palestinians have been fighting for the same geographical territory for some time.
Arguments presented by both groups are reasonable as to why the area belongs to them considering
they both have historical and religious foundations in the region. The question that arises from these
claims is which group is right, and what appropriate measures should be taken to resolve the conflict
between the groups. For problems such as this, the U.S foreign secretary is called upon to conduct
negotiations that relate to U.S. foreign affairs, and to promote beneficial economic intercourse
between the United States and other countries. While both Israelis and Palestine s believe they are
right in their argument for territory. Both groups need to be more committed in establishing peace in
their region, resolving their differences so they can partake in a better quality of life. It is important to
understand the underlying beliefs of both groups, in order to gain an understanding of what caused the
conflict between them, and whether there can be a resolution. The State of Israel consists of two
nationalities which are Jews and Palestinians. The Palestinians are an ethnic group made up of modern
descendants of the people who have lived in Palestine over the centuries, and who today are largely
culturally and linguistically considered Arab. The people of Israel (also referred to as the Jewish

  • 2. Analysis Of Henrik Ibsen s A Doll House The production of any theatrical performance is an assembly of creativity, interpretation, and collaboration. Typically, the task of imagining and guiding the integration of all these elements belongs to the director. One of the toughest tasks of a director is to reinvigorate a socially important and renowned production while maintaining its original message and composition. Henrik Ibsen s A Doll House is a socially important realistic play that portrays the gender dynamics that plagued the nineteenth century and questions the expectations held for women in a household and society. The play is still incredibly influential because the issues it addresses are still prevalent decades later. The original play is so accredited and well known that directors face a tough challenge of trying to reconstruct it in a memorable way. One director, Lee Breuer, attempted to do so in his Mabou Mines DollHouse production. In agreement with Elinor Fuchs review, through creative directorial decisions on setting, casting, and music, Breuer uniquely reignited the fire in Ibsen s play without drifting from the original message. Before discussing the specific stylistic decisions Breuer took to reconstruct and modernize Ibsen s play, it is important to obtain a clear definition of reconstruction in theater, which is different from other forms of reconstruction. Generally, reconstruction is the rebuilding of something that has been broken. However, it would not be fair to say that Ibsen s A Doll ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Coming Of Age By Anne Moody The famous leader Martin Luther King once said, Being a Negro in America means trying to smile when you want to cry. It means trying to hold on to physical life amid psychological death. It means the pain of watching your children grow up with clouds of inferiority in their mental skies. It means having their legs off, and then being condemned for being a cripple. This quote pretty much summed up the way in which African Americans felt during the 1960 s. They had basically no meaning to life. They were irrelevant. Whites wanted no part in them. This was especially the case in the state of Mississippi. Anne Moody, writer of the autobiography, Coming of Age in Mississippi explains the importance of the civil rights movement in the state of Mississippi and the influence it had on her life and her viewpoint. Growing up as a poor African American in Mississippi was not always an easy, especially in the 1960 s. It was a time where everyone was segregated. Blacks and whites were treated completely different. They weren t allowed to eat at the same restaurants, go into the same bathroom, or even drink from the same water fountain. Anne Moody did just that. As just a young girl being raised by extremely poor black family in the South, she personally experienced the difference between the lives of blacks and whites. She was growing up in the middle of the civil rights movement, where African American struggled everyday. At a very young age Moody became challenged by many instances ... • 4. Summary Of Bryan Caplan s Book, The Topic Of Rational... The topic that I have chosen regarding Bryan Caplan s book is the topic of rational ignorance. Bryan Caplan defines rational ignorance as a voter s belief that one vote has a small probability of changing the outcome of an election. Several voters are rationally ignorant, myself included, which after reading The Myth of the Rational Voter: Why Democracies Choose Bad Policies I have to ask myself why even vote at all other than it is considered by some to be a civic duty. If voters are so ignorant then it would be impossible for them to even make an attempt at an informed decision. Informed decisions might be only reached by a small percentage of the population, but because of the miracle of aggregation a democracy can work. According to Caplan aggregation can only work if the voters do not make systematic errors (Caplan pg.7). That is their errors have to be random. Caplan uses the analogy on page 7 that if the voters have the choice between a Unabomber and another candidate the Unabomber will win only 50 percent of the time assuming there is 100 percent voter ignorance (Caplan pg.7). However, in a democracy there is no such thing as 100 percent voter ignorance so the Unabomber s chances of winning 50 percent of the time will drop even lower. Systematically biased views are held by those voters who are considered to be rationally irrational. To empirically prove the systematical biased views Caplan uses the results from the Survey of Americans and Economists on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. George Berkeley s Response To Materialism George Berkeley seeks to prove that everything there is, is a mind or a mind s contents . His overall goal consists of arguing against materialism in an attempt to promote idealism instead. Berkeley does this by introducing his likeness objection , in opposition to the traditional representation theory of perception. Another approach that Berkeley takes in describing the lack of distinction between primary and secondary qualities. I, however, believe that his likeness objection and his thoughts towards primary and secondary qualities is not as convincing as he honestly thinks it is, and that its usage could potentially help promote materialism instead of dismantling it. In order to fully explain how I believe the likeness objection is ineffective, I will present three sections worth of information. In section one, I will state Berkeley s approach to idealism and how he integrates his likeness objection into it; in section two, I will put forth my thoughts and claims about the matter; and in section three, I will anticipate one possible criticism and respond to that criticism accordingly. Section I Berkeley s advocacy of idealism stemmed from the different definition that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And what do we perceive besides our own ideas or sensations? And is it not plainly repugnant that any one of these or any combination of them should exist unperceived? In an effort to anticipate any criticism that his argument might obtain, Berkeley plans to respond to what someone might say if they were to support a representational theory of perception. A representationalist might suggest that Berkeley s argument is invalid because premise one could only be true his idea of perceive is being used indirectly, and premise two could only be true if perceive is being directly ... • 6. Similarities Between My Papa s Waltz And Do Not Go Gentle... The feelings directed towards the fathers in the poems My Papa s Waltz and Do not go gentle into that goodnight have both similar and constrasting views. In the poem My Papa s Waltz, the boy speaks of his father in a disappointed way by saying that he smelled alcohol on his father s breath and his ears kept being scraped by his dad s belt while his father carlessly danced with him. In this poem, the father is potrayed as not one of the greatest father figures that there is. On the other hand, in the poem Do not go gentle into that goodnight, the son is speaking of wise men, strong men, and so forth. He states that when it s their time to face death, they don t go down without a fight. The language in the poem potrays the son s limitless ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Pros And Cons Of Creating The Budget I was assigned to cut the budget for year 1 and year 2 by $750,000 (total of $1.5 million over 2 years) by the CEO. I took a comprehensive look at the budget and my recommendations are that we should cut the number of participants from 1000 to 910 and let go of 3 staff members. These reductions would have a cascading effect and help us to cut the budgets of both years by 750,000 dollars. I believe that the quality of our program is more important than the number of participants we serve. Consequently, I propose to decrease the number of participants by 9% (90 participants) for year 1 and year 2. This cut would cause minimum harm to the program because we would be able to serve the other 910 participants without decreasing services, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Subsequently, helping us reach our desired program outcomes. The average cost of a certification is $75 and for our initial budget, we assumed that half of the participants would get these certifications. In our new budget, this ratio would be maintained, however as we have fewer participants, we would only need to budget for 455 certifications decreasing our budget by $3,375 for year 1 and year 2. Another important service that our program offers is background checks. These checks help increase the number of placements and retentions. Our initial budget reflected that each background check costs $50 and approximately half of the participants would require a background check. The new budget for year 1 and year 2 would still maintain the same ratio but due to a decrease in participants, we would only need to budget for 455 participants. This would help us cut the budget by $2,250 for year 1 and year 2 without harming the program. Career advisors are an essential part of our program. Career advisors transitional help participants during their transitional employment, which is usually for the first 4 6 months of the program. My recommendation would be to fire 2 of these advisors as this would allow us to decrease our budget by $80,000 for year 1 and 2. Currently, these advisors serve 500 participants and their maximum participants to staff ratio is 35:1. Our initial budget ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Introgenic government Topic: Response and Social Policy paper on Iatrogenic Government The response to drug use in America and in some countries around the world seems to have an interesting history. As the author Daniel Patrick Moynihan describes the unintended consequences society faces when government does not deal effectively with issues of drugs in society. He provided several references that shows the historical and present connections to government interrelations and how many of these decisions have some form of negative impact and at times causes social breakdown. His historical reference to drug uses, medicinal properties as well as technology role in our present age does paint a vivid picture of how government decisions can affect us. Since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus as the author begins to address the issues related to drugs his reference about the government s approach ring truth The truth in either event is that we were mostly asserting what we did not know and would need to learn (pg. 353). The author s reference to technology is relevant but I will address the issue of technology later on as I respond to his summary. The history of drug use represents lessons that were long been seen but obviously overlooked by doctors as well as pharmaceutical companies. The earlier efforts by government to regulate drug use or alcohol consumption began with some regulations on Jamaican rum. Since distilled liquor was used in social events, the government approaches in regulating the trafficking of the distilled liquor was by levying heavy fines on the general tariff bill. The cost of importing Jamaican rum was costlier than distilled liquor here in America. Again, at the time, the government was mostly dealing with the abolition of slavery and again the issues around alcohol consumption were minimally dealt with. Distilled spirits in earlier America was part of bringing Americans together during times of unity. It was a time to earn easy money and have an all around good time (pg. 354). People enjoyed alcohol in the morning for breakfast as well as a celebratory thing. The government knew that drinking alcohol or distilled liquor caused some medical issues but again, the ... • 10. Why Did I Choose George Etienne Cartier Introduction Why did I choose George Etienne Cartier? For my heritage fair I decided to research George Etienne Cartier, who if you haven t heard about was a lawyer, rebel, politician and railway promoter whose contributions to Confederation were on the same level as figures like John A. Macdonald and George Brown(Sweeny). If you haven t heard of any of these people, then don t worry I ll be going into length on all of them, but I ll make sure to focus from the perspective of George Cartier. Furthermore, if you were wondering why I chose this topic to research, I would truthfully tell you that the only reason I chose George Etienne Cartier was because he was as good a topic as anything else, so personally I didn t care about the topic. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... George had 7 siblings and was the seventh child of his parents(Bonenfant), I didn t research much about his siblings but I did find that one of George s brothers also went into law and was a partner of Georges during the time he practiced law(Bonenfant). As you can tell probably tell from the name, George Etienne Cartier came from French background and lived in Lower Canada which was mainly French, he came from a relatively wealthy family of grain exporters and millers(Sweeny). Which possibly influenced his views towards Confederation after the repeal of the Corn Laws, but that s a subject for later, when we understand more about George s involvement with Confederation. Another thing that could have influenced George about Confederation was that the fact that he was born around the same time as the War of 1812, which again is a subject for later. As we know George came from a wealthy family, which allowed him to live a relatively comfortable life, it also allowed him to be able to access educational opportunities. He studied at the Sulpician College of Montreal, afterwards he studied law and politics(Sweeny), he was also able to learn more about law while working under Edouard Rodier, a Montreal Lawyer who was involved with various rebel groups in Lower Canada(Bonenfant). While studying to become a lawyer, George Cartier almost certainly was exposed to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Essay about Persuasion in 12 Angry Men In his article, The Necessary Art of Persuasion , Jay Conger stated that persuasion is NOT about selling or convincing; rather, it is a learning and negotiating process. Good persuaders use and listen to ongoing and active discussions (or debates) to learn about their audience and include different opinions into a shared conclusion. In the movie 12 Angry Men , juror number 8 (Henry Fonda) was not sure if evidence presented against a young defendant in court left reasonable doubt for a guilty conviction. The other jurors believed the presented facts and the defendant s background warrants a guilty conviction. The movie showed how juror number 8 persuasively got the other jurors to review each fact logically, which led to an unanimous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is critical to identify the tangible benefits and values that really matters to people being persuade. Effective persuaders consider what is important to an audience and lays his or her position to match common ground with the audience. This is a give and take process. Effective persuaders also use testimonies, past and current research, etc and readjust their argument to make them appealing to their audience. Persuaders must know an audience well enough to know what will capture their immediate and continued attention. Juror number 8 was in a situation where there is no common ground between him and the other jurors. All are from diverse backgrounds and uncomfortably brought together to deliberate the facts in an open and shut murder trial. Juror number 8, wanting to just talk , kept reconsidering and adjusting his position with the other juror s positions about the defendant until a common was reach in the deliberation. Again, this is a give and take process and is effective if properly done right. The third essential step is presenting evidence to an audience. Conger stated that evidence alone will not convince an audience to support a position or an idea. Evidence can appear too abstract and not entirely informative. Persuaders, Conger noted, use stories, metaphors, analogies, examples, etc and use vivid language skillfully to paint a compelling big picture of their point of view. • 13. Summary Of American Jewry The American Civil War was, with the exception of the presence of Loyalists during the American Revolution, the only time in American history that neighbor turned against neighbor in both widespread physical violence and enmity of the heart. This was true of the entire nation, but even more so of American Jewry. American Jewry was a very small percentage of the American population at the start of the war in 1861. During the conflict it was forced to confront its own differences during the Civil War; the politics, policies and emotions of the war acting as a great revealer which exposed the fractured unity of the tiny ethno religious group in America. While the war exposed this fracturing, it simultaneously exposed the commonalities that American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his chapter The Rabbis and the Slavery Question , Bertram Wallace Korn notes how Judaism s religious ideals and principles were interpreted in widely disparate ways when a crucial issue faced the entire nation ; in the case of the Civil War that is interpreted according to geographic sentiments and the ideologies that went along with them(slavery). With the exception of New York City, whose general sentiments regarding slavery went along with the anti abolitionist sermons of Dr. Morris J. Raphall and articles of Mordecai M. Noah, Northern Jewry tended to be abolitionist while Southern followed their Christian neighbor s in extolling the virtues of slavery. The reason for this kind of outlook is not surprising in the least, as any minority people will invariably take up the majority culture as a means of survival. However, Jews were [possibly] more prone to this throughout their stay in the early United States, as Rabbinic Judaism has always championed that the law of the land is the law when living in the diaspora; a teaching which would ultimately justify the beliefs and actions of both sides to themselves. In Shifting Veils , Diane Ashton posits that especially in the nineteenth century Jews throughout the United States borrowed and adopted the attitudes common to the regions in which they lived . For years prior to the Civil War no Jew wanted to appear disloyal to their majority Christian neighbors (many of whom regarded them with suspicion) or to their country, and as such did everything they could to adopt the culture and beliefs of their region [either out of sincere belief or desire to blend in ]. Neutrophils Research Paper Once any bleeding is under control, chemotaxis occurs and inflammatory cells migrate into the wound and promote the inflammatory phase, which is characterised by the successive influx of neutrophils, macrophages and lymphocytes. Neutrophils start with the critical task of destroying and removing bacteria, foreign particles and any remaining damaged tissue. This phagocytic activity is crucial as bacterial imbalance within acute wounds causes the wound to stop healing. Neutrophils are attracted to the site of injury within 24 36 hours by pro inflammatory cytokines including TGF β. • 16. A Brief Note On Contingency Management ( Cm ) c. Contingency management (CM) is a treatment that uses a systematic method of changing behavior by modifying through consequences. It maintains that behavior has a type of repetitiveness and can be altered by using a system of negative and positive reinforcement. These negative and positive types of consequences, if administered consistently, can result in behaviorally changes. CM is structured around four core principles; routine drug testing is arranged by the clinician to detect if clients been using specific substance regularly, if abstinence is proven the clinician implements positive reinforcement, which is accepted by the client and clinician, if a positive for drugs is disclosed the clinician denies the clients reward that was agreed upon, a negative test rewards the client with what was agreed upon. CM is an approach that is best focused on a targeted behavior such as; substance abstinence, treatment plan adherence, consistency with medication, continuous individual and group presence, and completion of specific goals. There is an assortment of reinforcement techniques that are available to use with CM like; currency, rewards, tokens, concessions, and other prizes. I would use the CM method when a client that denies that he is consuming any alcohol but shows signs of the substance abuse. This would be a good method for those who do better when they receive a reward that would more likely motivate them to accept change. Keeping the client occupied and on a roll ... It would be unavoidable for the two to collide in war. Like Germany, the Soviet Union had established a new nation and created a large military power in the aftermath of World War I. But the one thing that I didn t quite get to is the super solution but all of my mini solutions work for all sorts of rectangles. My solutions were two of the same numbers always equal zero. I know that this works because if you do a 6 by 6 you would get 0 rebounds. A number and one are always the number subtracted by one. If you do a 4 by 1 you would get 3 rebounds. If the dimensions can be reduced to ½ then the rebound will be one. For example, an 8 by 4 has one rebound. If the dimensions have a two in it, then the other number is the number of rebounds that you have. For example, If you had a 7 by 2 there would be 7 rebounds. You take the first dimension and add it to the second dimension and subtract it by 2. This one works for most of them but not all of them. For example, if you had a 9 by 7 then there would be 14 rebounds. The ball never lands in the corner, it was shot from. I looked at all the pictures that I drew to figure out the formulas and noticed that the corner the ball was hit from, never ever landed in the corner that it was hit from. And I see a whole army of my countrymen here in defiance of tyranny (Braveheart). In this statement, Wallace uses rhetoric to address the crowd. Metonymy is used in this sentence, the use of the term tyranny substitutes what they are actually fighting against on the battlefield, which are the English. Wallace uses the word tyranny because in the film, the English were ruling over the Scottish and the customs in which they ruled, the Scottish saw it as tyranny. The term tyranny establishes logos because it provides the audience reason for what they are about to fight and possibly die for. There is also an appeal to pathos in this sentence because a term like tyranny carries a negative connotation along with it. Kenneth S. Zagacki, a professor in communications at North Carolina State University and Patrick Boleun Fitzgerald, a professor in philosophy at Lawrence University explain this phenomenon: Emotions like anger are important to Aristotle s theory of Rhetoric, although it is important to understand that there is a distinction between the emotional state of anger and angry rhetoric. Comparing the Two Versions of A Butterfly by William Wordsworth William Wordsworth wrote two versions of the poem To A Butterfly, one in March, the other in April. In reading the poems, the situation presented is obviously the same, only interpreted differently and reflected differently. As Wordsworth himself said about poetry: it is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquillity: the emotion is contemplated till by a species of reaction the tranquillity gradually disappears. Both versions of the poem are about the memory that the sight of a butterfly brings back, not so much a memory but a feeling the poet gets upon seeing this butterfly. In the first version of ... In the last two lines, we learn that the memory is not of the two of them together, but primarily of his sister, Emmeline, who feared to brush the dust from off its wings. The memory seems like it should be a happy one, but the language of the beginning of the poem tells us otherwise, and we are left wondering what has happened between the memory and now. The tone of the second poem, the April poem, is quite different from that of the first. Here, the poet does not impose his own thoughts and impressions upon the butterfly, but simply observes it, and wonders about the natural life of a butterfly. He thinks of what it would be like to be a butterfly, thoughts that would put one in a fanciful mood, not a somber one. If the butterfly happened to take flight in the April poem, I think the poet would be happy about this (compare lines 7 9 of the April poem to lines 1 2 of the March poem). The next stanza is very important in differentiating between the uneasy sort of reflective mood of the March poem, because it describes the orchard ground as theirs, his and his sister s together, showing us that nothing bad has happened to her (an idea I got from the March poem).
