Essay on Nursing Assessment
Element: Prevention of pressure ulcers This essay is going to explore the nursing process with regard
to the prevention of pressure ulcers. Pressure ulcers are a widespread and often underestimated health
problem in the UK. They occur in 4 10% of patients admitted to hospital (Ward et al, 2010). This
essay, using case study 4, will explore the holistic nursing process, and also the biological,
sociological, psychological and ethical issues regarding the prevention of pressure ulcers. Lily is
frightened due to her shortness of breath (dyspnoea), and as lying down exasperates her ability to
breath effectively, has been sleeping in a chair. This is the primary concern of Lily. There has also
been recent weight loss. The aim of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Losing weight, combined with sleeping in a chair, may have contributed to Lily having a suspected
pressure ulcer. Unrelieved pressure, from sitting in a chair for long periods, squeezes the tiny blood
vessels in the skin which supply the tissues with oxygen and nutrients. The tissues die when deprived
of oxygen and nutrients for too long (Harris, 2009). Older people and those experiencing impaired
nutrition are among the groups at risk of developing pressure ulcers (NICE, 2005). The Malnutrition
Advisory Group of BAPEN (British Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition) developed the
Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST), (Perry, 2009). The MUST is a 5 step screening tool
to identify adults who are malnourished, at risk of malnourishment or obese. Lily s body mass index
(BMI) will be calculated to obtain her overall risk of malnutrition. By talking to Lily and consulting
her medical notes, the nurse can establish Lily s weight loss over the last 3 6 months (BAPEN, 2009).
Asking leading questions regarding Lily s dietary habits and appetite will give the nurse an
understanding of her nutritional intake. If Lily scored 2 or more in the MUST tool then she would be
considered high risk (Perry, 2009). Lily will be assessed for her risk of developing a pressure ulcer. A
number of evidence based tools have been developed but the Waterlow pressure ulcer risk

Asian Immigrants And The American Dream
The American Dream, a belief that draws immigrants to the US with the hope being able to work hard
for a better life. One of the groups that believe in this dream are Asian Immigrants. Children of these
Asian immigrants have a unique expectation to live up to. Their parents came to America in search of
a better life, so they are pushed to achieve this desired life. Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan exposes this
expectation through the stories of the character s childhoods. But in the real world, these standard
push Asian students to the top of their classes and centralized Asian student goals around their grades.
Some parents, for example, Amy Chua, have an even higher expectation for their children. Why
Chinese mothers are superior, tells of the stereotypical tiger mom, who expects the most of their
children, excelling them even further into the vision of the American dream. But even with all the
excellence the Asian students emits, university acceptance is another story. Articles like The model
minority is losing patience in the Economist and Justice Department investigating Harvard s
affirmative action policies by Susan Svrluga and Nick Anderson discuss the disadvantage Asians have
when applying to the top universities. With so many Asians prospering in school, the racial quotas
universities are suspected of having increase the difficulty for an Asian to be accepted. Because even
though Asian students tend to be more hardworking and dedicated to education than other races,

Introduction. Anterograde Amnesia Is The Inability To Form
Introduction
Anterograde amnesia is the inability to form new memories, while keeping old memories intact.
People who suffer from this impairment, are unable to encode new memories into long term memory
but are able to keep them in short term. The movie Fifty First Dates portrays this type of amnesia
accurately and inaccurately. The main protagonists of Fifty First Dates are Lucy, played by Drew
Barrymore, and Henry, played by Adam Sandler. Lucy suffers from anterograde amnesia due to brain
damage. For the most part, the movie is accurate to the impairment and is almost exactly the same as
the impairment patients suffer from.
Plot of Fifty First Dates
In the movie Fifty First Dates Lucy has permanent brain damage due to a car accident. ... Show more

Procedural memory is usually memories associated with muscle memory where her body remembers
it even if she does not. This is also true to the type of amnesia. She even dreams about Adam Sandler s
character even though she is not sure how she knows him. Somehow, her encounters with him are
encoded even though she doesn t remember them explicitly.
A Real Life Example: FL and Similarities from the Movie
What is most interesting is that the movie seems to be based off of a real incident. Smith et. al (2010)
wrote about a special case of a patient named FL. She was in a car accident in 2005 and reported
difficulty retaining information from one day to the next. She describes her memory as unaffected
over the course of the day but when she falls asleep, the memory for each day disappears. FL also, is
able to recall things from before her accident. Lucy, a fictional character created for a movie, shares
many things in common with FL, thus showing that the film is accurate to the disorder. It also is
interesting to know that FL like Lucy was somehow able to remember something s. According to
Smith et. al (2010), For some tests, unbeknownst to FL, material learned on the previous day was
intermixed with material learned on the same day as the test. In other words, FL sometimes mixed in
previously learned material that she did not recall learning due to her impairment with material that
she learned that day. This idea of intermixing material was also accurate

Disease Surveillance And Investigation Efforts
There are eighty communicable diseases that are required to be reported to the Department of Public
Health as part of the disease surveillance and investigation efforts. Every state has a website on what
to report, to who and time frames which it should be done. ( Reportable Diseases/Conditions in
Florida, 2014). It is everyone s duty as a medical professional to follow these rules to report to their
health department due to the possible spread of diseases. Communicable diseases can be prevented or
lessened the side effects with vaccines and education.
One common disease is the chickenpox. It is caused by the Varicella zoster virus. ( History of chicken
pox, 2013). History shows that chickenpox may have been around since Babylonian times. Anyone at
any age can get this disease. Chickenpox is contagious from one to two days before the rash appears
until all blisters have formed scabs. It spreads from person to person by direct contact or through the
air from an infected person s coughing or sneezing. It can also be transmitted from the fluid from the
blisters they cause until they are scabbed. The virus has a ten to twenty one days of an incubation
period. Chickenpox is usually diagnosed by the appearance of the rash the person has. The chickenpox
disease can start without warning or with a fever and a runny nose. Most common symptoms that
people are aware of are the red spots that appear on the upper trunk, neck, stomach, face and scalp that
become itchy (CDC, 2016).

Good Night And Good Luck And Badlands Compare And Contrast
Good Night and Good Luck, and Badlands are two very unique movies. Both poses very interesting
narratives, with underlying messages and symbolism. But, what makes them stand out the most, is
their artistic and technically driven visuals. One is full of beautiful and romanticized colors. The other
uses black and white to portray depth and struggle. Two vastly different approaches, but equally
powerful in their own ways. Good Night and Good Luck and Badlands, both use their visual ascetics
to motivate and strengthen their stories. Demonstrating that every part of filmmaking is detailed, and
every piece is an intricate part of the result. Badlands would have been a completely different movie if
not shot in color. This film is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All this going on, but somehow the audience gets caught up in the story. For brief moments forgetting
that Kit is a murderer and Holly is a child. This makes the film all the more impressive, the way it
draws you in. If Badlands was in black and white it would be a completely different movie. It would
be darker, and the characters lack of morality would be undeniable. Badlands may be best for color
film, but Good Night and Good Luck is perfect for black and white. Good Night and Good Luck s
message is one of struggle in a colorless world under the reign of a corrupt leadership. Shot in black
and white palette of cigarette smoke, hair tonic, dark suits and pale button down shirts, Good Night
and Good Luck plunges into a half forgotten world in which television was new, the cold war was at
its peak, and the Surgeon General s report on the dangers of tobacco was still a decade in the future
(Ebert) . While Badlands uses its color to, in a way, distract from the plot. Good Night and Good Luck
s black and white aesthetic embodies the depth of what s at stake for the characters lives. The black
and white is used as a symbol. In the time of the HUAC trials people believed the solution to all issues
could be solved with black and white logic. Undefined gray issues were ignored and McCarthy used
this to sway the people and carry out his agenda. These are some of the artistic reasons Good Night

The Importance Of Play On Child Development
Introduction to the Issues and Literature Review Play is an important part of children s development,
as it helps us to understand their emotional, social, and physical/motor development. Interaction
during play, or lack their of, can help to explain a child s temperance, their comprehension of social
rules, and their understanding of others (Allen, 2008; Franklin, 2000; Rothbart and Jones, 1998).
Physical and motor movements in play can depict a child s sensory tolerance and preferences
(Williamson and Anazalone, 2008). Most notable, all of these systems work together in play to
understand the rates at which a child is developing and in which areas more support may be needed.
As Rothbart and Jones discuss in their piece Temperament, self regulation and education, children that
have a stronger Behavioral Inhibition System (fear or anxiety reactions) may be more likely to display
introverted or inhibited behavior (1998). These children may be more susceptible to becoming
discouraged and may require more positive feedback from their peers or adults. To further explain,
they might fear punishment for their actions and need positive reinforcement that their behavior is
socially acceptable or they may doubt their own abilities to perform in certain situations. A child s
estimation of their abilities and likelihood of their success in a given situation also may be affected if
he or she tends to be more fearful. They may avoid situations where they feel inadequate and avoid

Technology in Ancient Rome and Egypt
Technology application of antiquity was so advanced in some areas that only in the last several
centuries has modern technology overtaken what existed several millennia ago . The massive building
projects of the Giza Plateau and throughout Egypt required heavy lifting and precision surveying
technology that did not exist even 100 years ago . The military equipment of ancient Rome, such as
artillery machinery, was still state of the art 200 years ago . Neither Rome nor Egypt invented much
new technology , but rather applied existing technology in new ways. Application of technology
expanded to meet the priorities of these two civilizations and innovative application of new
technology came through exchange of differing ideas and strong ... Show more content on

Romans solved this by applying Persian aqueduct technology . Technology spread throughout the
military, right down to simple but highly effective Celtic sourced chainmail body armor that protected
the lowly foot soldier. Rome s military technology allowed the empire to grow and sustain. The rise of
Rome was accomplished through military means, where ...each new conquest became vulnerable and
led to further expansion. This objective was first above anything else. Without the military strength to
establish and spread the empire, no other artistic, architectural, domestic, or other cultural innovation
could take place . This state priority was for survival because without relentless enhancements to labor
resources, military methods, and technology, Rome would fall. In fact, Rome nearly fell, and in 31
BC, Octavian established a military dictatorship, called the Principate . The military campaigns
provided the raw material to make the military even stronger labor and new ideas and technology.
The intellect of newly conquered countries brought with them new ideas and new technology. For
example, even the one technology of glass blowing the Empire invented, no Roman ever invented it,
for it seems to have developed in present day Syria. The pace at which technology was applied in the
military quickened because the new ideas

Proposal For Implementing A Formal Mentoring Program Essay
MEMORANDUM
TO: Donald Lower, Partner; Barry Anderson, Partner; John Huber, Partner; Todd Whitlow, Partner
FROM: Brooke Vondal, Administrative Officer
DATE:
September 18, 2016
SUBJECT: Proposal to Implement a Formal Mentoring Program
Attached is the proposal to implement a mentoring program at Anderson, Lower, Whitlow P.C. In
early summer, ALW hired fifteen recently graduated individuals and 12 have already taken positions at
other firms. There needs to be a system in place to develop and foster relationships for these
individuals within the firm. This firm has a high turnover rate of new hires; currently, the turnover rate
is 85%. Firms that are considered the Big Four are offering mentoring programs that make their
employees invested in the company s future. Unfortunately, if ALW does not start to compete with this
issue, more employees will be lost to the Big Four Firms.
Implementing a strong mentoring program that fosters individual and personal growth within the
company is vital for the future of this firm. This includes setting up and maintaining a mentoring
program. The mentoring program will be set up with individuals from all levels of achievement, that
are willing to devote a portion of their time to the firm s prosperity.
Investing in the future of this firm, through a formal mentoring program is a vital step. I look forward
to working with you throughout this process. I can be reached at bvondal@alwpc.com or 456 789

Lastly, cytokinesis which is the splitting of the daughter cells furrow will be formed and the cell will
pinched into two. Meiosis According to the Biology Online Organization (2006), Meiosis contained
two type of phases meiosis I and meiosis II. In the prophase I, homologous chromosomes in the
nucleus begin to pair up with one another and then split into chromatids where crossing over can
occur. For metaphase I, the chromosomes will align at the equator of the cell. The bivalents are
aligned randomly increasing the genetic variation via independent assortment. In the anaphase 1, the
homologous chromosomes move to opposing poles from the equator. A new nuclei will be formed
around each pole alongside each new chromosomes compliment in the telophase I. For prophase II,
the second meiotic division will be initiated and the nuclear membrane will disappear. In the
metaphase II, the pair of chromatids will be lined up at the equator. For the anaphase II, via the spindle
fibers, each of these chromatids will be moved away from the equator to the poles. Lastly, in the
telophase II the four new haploid gametes are created which will thus fuse with the gametes of the
opposite sex to form a zygote. 4. Procedures: 4.1 Preparation of onion root tip slide Firstly, the onion

A Game Of Balls And Bats
Similar Sports This is a game of balls and bats played by two teams, each consisting of nine players.
The object is to score runs by hitting a fair ball with the bat. The field is a diamond shape with bases
in each corner with an order of first, second, third, and home. After the ball is hit, the runner runs
counterclockwise around the bases. When a batter gets to home plate, a point is scored. The batter
waits at home plate to receive a pitch from the opposing team s pitcher. The pitcher is set up equally in
the middle of all four bases. There is an outer field on the opposite side of home plate where the ball
can also be hit to. Each defensive player has a position in the field. The batter gets three chances to
make contact with a good pitch. For each good pitch missed, the batter receives a strike. For every
pitch that is not good, or outside the strike zone, the batter receives a ball. If the batter gets three
strikes it counts as an out. If a batter receives four balls they are allowed to proceed or walk to first.
When a ball is hit foul, it will result as a strike, though a batter cannot receive a third strike from a foul
ball. When the ball is hit, the fielders are expected to get the ball and throw it to the closest base of
which a runner is heading to. If the ball is caught in the air by the fielders, the runner is called out.
There are three outs per inning, then the teams switch sides. If a pitch is hit over the outfield fence it
results in a homerun and the

Why Is Araby Important
S.S.S #1 (Araby) There is a force so powerful that it can control lives, this force is love. In the short
story Araby, the nameless boy has fallen in love for an unnamed girl, who is Mangan s sister, after
moving to Dublin, Ireland. Each morning the boy will watch her through the front window in the
parlour and quickly grab his books to walk behind her ,through their dull village, all the way to the
point at which their paths diverge. Araby is about a young boy whom is not named who moves into a
house in Dublin, Ireland. The previous tenant, an Irish priest, had died in the drawing room and left
his belongings to his sister and the house had a quite musty smell as it had not been inhabited for quite
some time. The family had moved in and as time went by, the boy made friends at his school,
Christian Brother s School, which was located within walking distance. The neighbors had a beautiful
daughter ,whom is also not named but is the sister of Mangan, and each morning the boy would watch
her leave her house from the window in the front parlour and grab his books so that he could walk
behind her quietly until their paths diverged at which point he would quicken his pace and pass her.
One day when the boy was walking behind her, she stopped and asked him if he was going to Araby,
the eastern bazaar that came to near Dublin each year, as she could not go because she had already
made a commitment to a school retreat. The boy was so stunned that he did not know what to say and

Police Misconduct And Criminal Crime
While police officers have many responsibilities, one of their primary duties is to protect and serve
their community. Due to the power given to police officers and the stresses that accompany that
power, police departments across time and the world have turned up some kind of police misconduct
or corruption. There are thousands of instances in which the power of an officer has been exercised
unethically and unlawfully.
Police misconduct and corruption is one of the oldest problems in the police force. Forms of police
misconduct can include police crime, occupational crime, corruption, and abuse of authority. Within
these forms lie actions of delinquency, which can include, but are not limited to police brutality, illegal
stops, or taking advantage of business owners in exchange of a blind eye, mooching, favoritism,
prejudice and racial profiling, extortion, or perjury. Misconduct among police officers can also include
negligence and carelessness. While ending police misconduct is crucial, it has proven difficult because
of the challenge of defining what constitutes as misconduct, and because misconduct or corruption can
go undetected for long amounts of time.
Police misconduct and corruption have been around as long as professional policing has. The origin
and development of professional policing began in the early nineteenth century under the direction of
England s Home Secretary, Sir Robert Peel. Peel implemented the Metropolitan Police Act of 1829,

The Government Into A Viable Operating Legislation
If James Madison were here today he would be pleased to see how his thinking has molded the
government into a viable operating legislation. Using the policy procedures depicted in All Roads
Lead to Congress: the $300 billion fight over highway funding by Costas Panagopoulos and Joshua
Schank, this essay will identify key areas within the amendment process of the Safe, Accountable,
Flexible, and Efficient Transportation Equity Act A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA LU), where James
Madison s beliefs are represented. The form of checks and balances within the legislation, along with
the development of factions and what they can accomplish, discussed in Article No. 10 and 51 of The
Federalist Papers mirrors the topics within in All Roads Lead to Congress.
Excerpts from The Federalist Papers No. 10 and 51 show that James Madison was telling his fellow
countrymen what he envisioned as a sustainable form of government; controlling factions within the
majority and minority parties, the need of a republic form of government instead of a pure democracy,
and establishing a form of checks and balances by a separation of power within the legislation.
In his essays, James Madison discusses one of the most dangerous but extremely necessary creatures
of government; factions. It is the government s responsibility to quell factions and maintain a minimal
divide between majority and minority groups. Within the opening chapters of All Roads Lead to
Congress, the authors are able to show how

Basket making was normally done by the elders of the tribe. The elders would sit around large fires
weaving baskets and singing ancient songs or prayers. Phillip Martin said, The baskets were made out
of any materials found in the area. The most common material used was tall grass (Martin 1). The
baskets can be found in various sizes and different configurations. While in the Hall of the Tribes we
found a basket that was taller than a fully grown man. The basket was made out of tall grass and
weighed well over one hundred pounds. In order to color a basket tall grass would have to be cut and
dried on drying racks. After the grass was dried baskets would be decorated with dye. In order to dye a
basket a particular color different herbs, fruit berries, flowers, grasses of color, and certain species of
trees were selected to make the different dye colors. The materials used for dye were then crushed or
pulverized into powder and made into paste or liquid paint. After the dye paint was made the tall grass
was soaked in the desired color and again placed on drying racks. Weavers then selected the desired
color stained grass and wove it into their baskets. After we departed the Hall of Tribes, we ventured
out into the surrounding snow covered grounds to see the ancient structures and ceremonial dwellings
that were also painted with the same colors and patterns as used on

Technology As A Catalyst For Beneficial Change And Progress
1. Career Goals Technology often elicits imagery of lifeless, emotionless, and automated machinery. It
is frequently viewed as a vehicle or weapon to oppress individuals and maintain conformity. Classic
dystopian novels such as Brave New World depict the depraved and immoral uses of technology at the
hands of the ruthless government. Despite this daunting view of technology that numerous individuals
hold, I personally viewed technology as a catalyst for beneficial change and progress. When I first
immigrated to the United States from the metropolis of Hong Kong, my rudimentary English skills
resulted in an inability to communicate. Consequently, I arrived home each day to log on to the
computer and sought safety in its tranquil hum, far away from the linguistic struggles and relentless
bullying I encountered at school. While my peers viewed technology as a tool for entertainment to
distract them from the monotony of daily life, I perceived it as a source of infinite knowledge. I
became captivated by the capacity of it to deliver a colossal amount of information instantaneously at
my fingertips. Consequently, I developed a profound connection with technology. I realized I wanted
to study technology as I witness its monumental progress. Phone calls became replaced by Skype
while shopping at retailers was displaced by sites such as Amazon. Consequently, the technology that I
once used to indulge in my intellectual interests was revolutionized into one with countless purposes

Wordsworth And John Muir Essay
John Muir and William Wordsworth are great examples of this theory. Throughout their stories, both
men give great insight to how the harmony of nature impacts their lives in a way that can make them
forget about all the sorrow and depression they have following behind them; Wordsworth and Muir s
stories include syntax and diction to verbalize their passionate relationship towards nature. William
Wordsworth s poem, I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud excellently shows how the power of beauty can
changes one s once depressed, sad day into joy and blissfulness. In Wordsworth s story, he exploits his
experience of how nature changed his mood of depression and sorrow to grateful and glee when he
stumbles across a bed of beautiful golden daffodils dancing in the breeze. Wordsworth writes: A poet
could not be but gay, in such a jocund company (stanza 3). In this passage, Wordsworth shows his
change of heart when in the presence of something so beautiful and alluring. Wordsworth also shows
how nature impacts his mood from the quote: They flash upon the inward eye, and my heart with
pleasure fills (stanza 4). In this final quote, Wordsworth explains that even when he is apart from the
beautiful golden daffodils, it is the memory that keeps his spirits alive. While Wordsworth s

Russian and Chinese Advanced Persistent Threat Groups
Utica College
October 15, 2016
Introduction
In this paper I will discuss a total of four Advanced Persistent Threat Groups (APT). I will discuss
their motives, attack objectives, targets of the attacks, tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTP), and
attack vectors. I will propose strategies that would deter and provide defense against the group or that
type of threat. I will also discuss if the APT is state backed or if it is a rogue actor.
The four APT groups that I chose to discuss are APT 28 and APT 29 from Russia, PLA Unit 61398
and PLA Unit 78020 from China. I have chosen these four groups because they interested me while I
was researching the topic. They each have a little signature that makes them stand out. A few are
completely dependent on phishing campaigns when others are more streamlined and actually take the
holidays of their homeland off from their efforts.
Main Body
The first Advanced Persistent Threat Group (APT) I will discuss is APT28. APT28 is also known by
the names: Fancy Bear, Pawn Storm, Sofacy Group and Sednit . APT28 has been active since 2007
and targets political figures, government institutions, telecommunications and e crime services with a
concentration on European and Asian aerospace companies.

develops, learns, and grows throughout his/her lifetime. To do so, I will use shadows in the
background to interact with the character in order to allow the audience to better comprehend my
actions and movements throughout the song. As the actor, I conform to the story line and the character
I am portraying by my movements and interactions with the shadows projected onto the backdrop of
the stage. As I prepared for this performance, I found it difficult to incorporate the movement patterns
of two characters, due to the fact that it is specifically a solo piece rather than a duet or

It Should Be Mandatory that All Security Guards Be Armed...
Other than police officers there are now security guards at just about every corner figuratively
speaking. Security guards spend their time guarding buildings and garages around the clock, day and
night. Most of these guards are assigned to work cites alone where there is no other employees or
supervisors present. When security guards are thought of one of the most popular thing that comes to
most peoples mind is they are rental cops. Private security faces many possible dangers and they can
become part of a violent situation at any given moment. . Without fire arms all they have is a outfit
that displays a badge and their title. To most criminals it is merely a joke. Security guards put their

That unarmed guard would not be able to stop the robber from putting a bullet through the bank
employees or the bank costumers, nor would the guard be able to stop him from robbing the place. On
the other hand if that guard who was standing in the corner would have been armed it would be a lot
more intimidating. The sight of the fire arm on the guards waist may make the criminal think twice. If
at that point the criminal would over look the guard and proceed to rob the place, the guard could then
put the skills he learned through his training to use. He/she could possible stop the criminal before any
harm came to anyone. Another example of dangerous location guards have to patrol is parking garage.
In Dayton Ohio most big garages have private security guarding the places throughout the night when
it is suppose to be empty. Guards are their to keep criminals and homeless people out. Within the
Sinclair library database there is a article about a female guard. She was working in a Dayton Ohio
parking garage next to city hall in 2010 and was viciously attacked. This guard was unarmed and
brutally beaten by two people while on duty there. While the article the city spokesmen talks about the

Leadership Styles
Introduction
Leadership and management are two different subjects but both are essential for an organizations
growth. Leadership is A relationship through which one person influences the behaviour or actions of
other people (Smith P et al 2012), whilst Management is more about getting things done on a day to
day basis and ensuring consistency (Smith P et al 2012).In simple context Managers helps in doing the
right thing where as Leaders do the right things. Having a strong Leader and Management an
organization can reap the benefits of Competitive advantage as it would distinguish them to be an

Why Pro-Choice Is The Right Choice
Why Pro Choice is the Right Choice
With the evolving moral standards of society, abortions are becoming more and more justified.
Abortions, the practice of removing a fertilized egg from a mother, has become a controversial issue in
American society, but should be generally supported because women should have the choice on how
they choose their eggs to go on, whether it be to end further growth of the fetus or not. Women have a
right to control what happens in and with their body.
Being a pro choice defender means taking sympathies to this woman while she then gets called a
murderer by pro life supporters. Abortions sometimes results in the woman being harassed because of
the choice she has made about her own body. That s what pro life supports. ... Show more content on

Essay On Renal Failure
Mr. Armstrong has a history of renal insufficiency and uncontrolled hypertension, along with
symptoms of fatigue, pedal edema, and occasional shortness of breath. He does not have a history of
trauma or obstruction to his kidneys, but his creatinine and BUN levels are currently at 3.5 mg/dl and
40 mg/dl. Normal creatinine concentration values are 0.7 to 1.2 mg/dl and normal BUN values are 10
to 20 mg/dl; this reveals that Mr. Armstrong s kidneys are not removing wastes properly (McCance,
Huether, Brashers, Rote, 2014). Mr. Armstrong s history of renal insufficiency and uncontrolled
hypertension is commonly found in patients diagnosed with intrarenal (intrinsic) acute renal failure.

Nephrotoxins, acute interstitial nephritis, glomerular damage, and vascular damage also correlate with
intrarenal acute renal failure (Singh, Levy, Pusey, 2013). Postrenal acute renal failure is usually a
result of a urinary tract obstruction that affects the kidneys bilaterally, which causes the intraluminal
pressure upstream from the site of the obstruction to increase with a progressive decrease in the
glomerular filtration rate (McCance, Huether, Brashers, Rote, 2014). A pattern consisting of several
hours of anuria with flank pain followed by polyuria is typically found in individuals with postrenal
acute renal failure (McCance, Huether, Brashers, Rote, 2014).
What health issues has Mr. Armstrong had that can factor into the development of renal failure? Mr.
Armstrong being 76 years old likely plays a factor in his diagnosis, considering that acute renal failure
is most common amongst the elderly (Singh, Levy, Pusey 2013). Mr. Armstrong s history of
uncontrolled hypertension is likely due to primary hypertension, which is sustained increases in blood
pressure due to genetics combined with environmental factors that increase vascular tone and blood
volume (McCance, Huether, Brashers, Rote, 2014). Increased vascular volume is related to a decrease
in renal excretion of salt, often referred to as a shift in the pressure natriuresis

Roller coasters have been around for a long time and gotten more fascinating over time. Russian ice

needed something fun to do. They would have gone sledding but the Russian lands did not have very
many hills. They created tall wooden structures and sprayed them with water. The water turned to ice
and then they slid down. They had to walk up a staircase each time they did it. Roller coaster safety

Roller coasters don t have engines. They have to use chains and gravity. Its cheaper and more

top and lets go gravity takes over and propels the coaster through the rest of the ride. The chain
requires less energy than putting a battery and engine on each cart. On roller coasters you will

What Is The Mood Of The Tower Of Babel
The Tower of Babel found in Genesis 11:1 9 tells the story of humanity s movement eastward and
settling in the region of Babylon; where at that time, all the people spoke the same language. What
unfolds is their quest to build a tower that would extend high into the heavens in order to make their
name great and keep them from being scattered all over the earth. Also, the people s ingenuity is
highlighted with the process of baking bricks rather than using traditional stone. As they are building,
the LORD comes down, and views their effort as a problem; in which he proceeds to confuse their
language and scatter them all over the face of the earth. Through this short narrative, the author
communicates a profound transition between the depravity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

First of which, Gary Schnittjer says, The human race defied God s instruction to multiply and fill the
earth because they wanted to make a name for themselves (Schnittjer 1737). God has always been a
sending God. He instructed Adam and Eve to fill the earth. He called Abraham to go to the land he
would show him so that he could be a blessing to all nations. Jesus told the disciples to wait in
Jerusalem until the Holy Spirit came on them, and then they would be his witness to the ends of the
earth. Yet in the early church, what unfolds is mini Babel building. The disciples stay in Jerusalem,
perhaps not to make their name great, but they are not fulfilling God s command to go and bless.
Therefore, persecution breaks out. What can be learned from Genesis 11 and the rest of the Bible, is
the church today must give attention going and blessing rather than codling and tower building. The
church is to be sent into every neighborhood with the good news of the Gospel, rather than only care
for themselves. God s mandate has never changed since Genesis

they were not given liberty. They were not given any kind of safety from their leaders they were being

grand scale one of the most absurd things I have read in some time. No law pertaining to say guns,

The Last Great Prophet was born in 570 A.D. in Mecca, as a member of the Quraysh tribe.
Muhammad was not his given name, but is instead an honorific, meaning highly praise, granted to him
later in life (Bowen 37). Muhammad s father passed away a few weeks before he was born.
Muhammad would also lose his mother at a young age and be forced to live with his uncle, Abu Talib,
leader of the Hashim clan. In his adulthood, Muhammad worked as merchant in the city of Mecca. He
also enjoyed solitude and would take trips to caves to pray and meditate. On one of these trips,
Muhammad received a vision of Gabriel, the Archangel. Gabriel would bestow revelations,
prophecies, and teachings to Muhammad. He would take this knowledge to create the Quran, the holy
book of Islam. Muhammad set out to Mecca, spreading his teachings, but was persecuted and forced
to stop by the city elders. Mecca could, and did, tolerate many religions, but it could not tolerate one
that demanded the expulsion of all others (Bowen 38). Compelled to leave the city and with his
followers in tow, he made his way to the city of Yathrib. He would spread his teachings across Yathrib,
he would take control of the city and it became known as Medina (derived from Medina t al Nabi, city
of the prophet) (Bowen 40). Here, in the city of Medina, Muhammad would establish Islam to what it

Symbols In A Rose For Emily
The literary works in the short story ¨A Rose For Emily¨ by American Author William Faulkner is an
influential work because of the symbols, motifs, and theme that are expressed throughout the story,
which are based upon love and relationships. Faulkner portrays the story in third person limited which
allows us to know the thoughts and feelings of a single charcter. The narrator is never identified
throughout the story, but when we examine the tone we can understand there is this we person, who
changes his/her mind about Miss Emily at certain points in the narration. A symbol is something used
for or regarded as representing something else. One instance of symbolism in this short story is in the
title itself. The rose is a symbol of love in which case Homer is the rose or love for Emily. Emily s

Anthem And The Island Comparison Essay
n my mind this means in you can grant someone with freedom, do not worry about getting it yourself

The first similarity between the book Anthem and the movie The Island is that the main characters

Joan Of Arc As A Saint
From Stake to Saint Medieval knights are known for being strong, brave, and faithful. However, a
well known warrior in the Hundred Years War also shares these attributes. What makes her different is
that she was a French peasant girl. At the age of 13, Joan of Arc heard voices from God telling her to
save France. In the midst of the Hundred Years War, a conflict between England and France for the
French throne, Joan was told to drive the English out of France, and see that Charles VII receive the
crown. As a devout Catholic, Joan was going to make sure this happened. Joan s courage and
determination let her accomplish her task. Even in her darkest times, she stayed strong and faithful.
She inspires people to this day, and left a legacy. Even though she was burned at the stake after being
accused of witchcraft, she is remembered as a saint and a hero. Joan of Arc s many achievements in
battle and her legacy in French history lived on for her to become a saint centuries later. Joan of Arc
started her journey to becoming a saint in 1428, when she felt that heavenly voices spoke to her (Beck

crown. He was called Dauphin, or rightful heir. Joan seeked an audience with him, and ventured to

Sex Harassment And Sexual Harassment
Introduction
Within this piece of work I will explain the following document about sexual harassment and describe
the differences between the comparisons of how it effect s the life s of them who have experienced the
horrors of sexual harassment.
Sexual harassment is a type of bullying, stereo typically towards a woman requesting for sexual
favours and acts in a verbal way it is stated by rape crisis London that within their research they found
that it is Estimates suggest that half of women in employment have been subjected to sexual
harassment (Rape Crisis London).
This can often be found in a workplace whereas for example, a person of a higher role such as a
manager could offer one of his female employees a promotion if she is willing to engage in his
sexually unwelcome behaviour or making comments about her sex life which can cause a hostile
workplace environment. Sexual harassment is defined as an unwelcome behaviour of a sexual nature
and when in a workplace can be referred to as quid pro quo, which basically means you give me what
I want, I ll give you what you want . It is believed that Sexual misconduct has emerged as a
widespread problem throughout the criminal justice system as indicated by law enforcement officer

Planet Of Slums By Mike Davis Essay
Mike Davis, author of Planet of Slums, predicts the direction in which the world s cities are headed,
and how the changes in living conditions are only going to deteriorate if certain trends continue. The
title of his book explains Davis s vision for the future of cities as he feels there is enough evidence
pointing towards an exponential rise in slum populations across the world s largest cities. Additionally,
he expresses his opinion on many issues regarding the rapid rise in developing cities slum populations,
although he offers very one sided arguments geared towards those who feel the current system is
causing more problems rather than improving current conditions. This causes Davis to overlook the
problems of slums as resolvable through different modes of assistance such as international aid
programs. Instead, he views aid programs as the root cause of imbalance created during
industrialization. Throughout the book, Davis presents information that confirms his preconceptions
towards the slums. Therefore, all the evidence that is presented by him portrays confirmation bias as
Davis fails to mention anything about the resolution of the problem of the growing number of slums
and instead sees this problem as unavoidable. Particularly, Davis writing, although intended for the
general population, is more geared towards critics who have similar ideas. Instead of providing the
means through which the economy could be improved and the problem of slums could be resolved, it

The Effects Of Ozone Depletion
The ozone depletion has been well documented to negatively affect planet Earth for years. The ozone
is a thin layer of the Earth´s atmosphere which is responsible for absorbing the sun s harmful
ultraviolet light ( What is Ozone Layer?,2017). The loss of ozone on earth will take a toll on human
health, plants and marine ecosystems, ultimately resulting in a planet that does not support living
things. Today, this manifests in climate change. It is easy for many to confuse these two issues,
although they are connected in various ways. Loss of the ozone layer is caused by greenhouse gases
such as chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs (compounds with chlorine and/or fluorine attached to carbon), as
well as , halons (similar compounds with bromine or iodine) (Jain 2015). These chemicals can stay in
the atmosphere for up to 100 years causing damage(What is Ozone Layer?,2017). Greenhouse gases,
like carbon dioxide, contribute to global warming, which then contributes to climate change by
warming the surface and waters. These factors are resulting in a domino effect on our environment.
Climate change is classified as an abrupt increase in the Earth s temperatures typically caused by
human activity (National Aeronautics Space Administration 2016). Human activities that release
pollutants in our atmosphere are changing it and contributing to global warming and ozone depletion.

Socrates Definition Of Justice Essay
Justice
What is justice? This is a question that men have struggled with answering for centuries. Justice
should be defined for the sake of all people, especially by rulers who attempt to make fair laws so that
their society functions in an orderly fashion. In Book 1 of The Republic, Plato attempts to define
exactly what justice is. To help determine this definition, he speaks through the philosopher
protagonist of Socrates. Justice is first brought up in The Republic during Socrates trip to Piraeus.
While traveling Socrates ends up gathering with his interlocutors and together, they talk about justice
and how one would define it. Socrates debates with the men about the definition of justice and is
presented with a definition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Republic presents two very different views of justice as argued by two skilled thinkers. The
beginning of the discussion starts off with Thrasymachus explaining what exactly he believes justice
is; justice is nothing other than the advantage of the stronger. (338c) Although Thrasymachus
definition is clear, Socrates attempts to spite him by using a wild comparison, by saying If
Polydamamas, the pancratiast, is stronger than we are and beef is advantageous for his body, then this
food is also advantageous and just for us who are weaker than he is. (338c) This statement from
Socrates disgusts Thrasymachus because Thrasymachus was simply referring to stronger in the sense
of being a ruler, not strong in the sense of being physically larger. To counter Socrates, Thrasymachus
explains how different societies are ruled throughout the world whether it be tyrannically,
democratically, or otherwise, and how the rulers, those who are strongest, are the ones who make the
laws and they do so to their advantage. Thrasymachus establishes this by saying how, A democracy
sets down democratic laws; a tyranny, tyrannic laws; and the others do the same. (338e) It is clear
from this line of reasoning that Thrasymachus has a solid position that justice is, rightly or wrongly,
the enforcement of the rule of law as dictated by the strong leaders that make the law.
Socrates attempts to disprove Thrasymachus definition of

The American Enlightenment Philosophy
The American Enlightenment Philosophy developed for a period of almost a century starting in mid
18th century and continued till the latter parts of the 19th century. This was the same era in which the
America gained independence and the nation was developing as a cohesive unit. It was on the rise and
the people wanted to leave a mark o the international scene. Just like we saw an Age of Enlightenment
in the European areas almost a 100 years back the same pattern was being followed and exhibited by
the people in this region. Since the major contingency of the people who had settled in the United
States were the descendants and the hybrids a number of different races and that is why they had a
fairly rich culture and their heritage directed them to be on the path to discovery. There were Brits,
Hispanics, Germans and French and similarly there were people who followed different religions and
levels and their faiths were different. So they were emerging as a new nation. A new force and they
had a lot to write home about. They had to prove something to the world and since most of the people
who were leading the nation were highly educated and the learned people were given their due
importance, it was realized well and truly in advance that the nation could only succeed if the new and
revamped philosophies were implemented. There were a number of different kinds of authors and they
felt that it had come upon them to deliver the best for the nation. They had to create awareness

Case Study Of Snickers
Marketing strategies are crucial for every business in order to expand its brand; therefore, numerous of
firms try to alter its marketing plan, however, it does not always turn out for the best. Snickers is an
excellent example to demonstrate this. First, Snickers is a chocolate candy brand which was created by
Fran and Erick Mars in 1930. (Archuleta and Media, nd) During the time from 2000 to 2010, its sales
declined as its marketing changed. (MarketingTango, 2013) Snickers had made changes in marketing
strategies which turned out to be the opposite of what the company expected, forcing Snickers to
return to its original strategy.
At first, when the founders of Snickers created the candy bar, its main selling point was ... Show more

Snickers should advertise under its previous principle, to satisfy people s hunger. (Elliott, 2013) It
created an entertaining commercial with the participation of numerous celebrities. At the same time it
created hilarious print advertisements based on its new slogan which is You Are Not You When You
Are Hungry. (Kaptan, Y. and Öksüz, B., 2016) The slogan indicated that everybody has a moment
when they are cantankerous, exhausted and whimpered while they are hungry; hence, eating Snickers
could solve this problem. It is able to revitalize the person back to themselves by satisfying its hunger.
This put Snickers repetition on the right track, moreover, the advertisement has been spread over 40
countries through several media outlets like social networking sites and individual commercial in
order to promote it globally. (Stporify, 2013) Ingratitude to the commercial Snicker have become more
successful and it started to direct its target to globalize. It shows Snickers made a wise decision by

Relationship Between Mother And Daughter
The relationship between a mother and daughter A mother and a daughter can have an unimaginable
bond or they can act like they barely like one another. A mother should always love, comfort, and
support their child. A daughter should obey, listen, and respect their parent. Two Kinds was written by
Amy Tan which is a short story focusing on the negative relationship of a mother and daughter. Suyan
Woo wanted her daughter to be able to excel in America. The mother wanted to turn her daughter Jing
Mei into a child prodigy. According to Tan, My mother believed you could be anything you wanted to
be in America (543). Jing Mei starts to refuse doing what her mother tells her. This causes conflict in
their relationship and neither of them wants to admit that they have done anything wrong. Suyan Woo
and Jing Mei have a negative relationship based on the mother s actions; this unhealthy connection
can be seen through failed communication, excessive control, and lack of respect. Suyan and Jing Mei
have a negative relationship based on the way they communicate with one another. Both of them come
from different backgrounds and have been influenced by different cultures. Since Jing Mei came from
a different background, culture, and environment the mother and daughter have had a difficult
relationship. They do not know how to express their feelings and they both end up getting angry with
one another. For example, when Jing Mei stated Why don t you like me the

Rosin Esters Lab Report
ESTERIFICATION OF ROSIN TO MAKE ESTER GUM
Esterification : It is a reaction between alcohols and carboxylic acids to produce esters.
The carboxylic acid group of a rosin acid can be converted to an ester through a reaction with various
alcohols. The alcohols typically used to make rosin esters are given below. The molecular weight and
functionality of the alcohol determines the softening point of the subsequent ester. Glycerol with three
reactive sites is the most commonly used alcohols. Methanol with a single hydroxyl group and tri
ethylene glycol with two reactive sites are used to produce liquid and low softening point esters.

Lacquer is a wood polish; it is the chemical added to wood to give it the smooth and shiny properties.
Without it, the wood of a piano would be a lot more difficult to work with, shrinking the lifespan of
the common piano by years if not decades. Without lacquer, the piano and other hammered string
instruments may have never become the influential instruments they are today. WHAT IS LACQUER
EXACTLY? Lacquer is a polymer of many different bases that when coated on a wooden substance,
offers a layer of protection and gloss to a piece of wood. The most common lacquer used on piano
frames is a urushiol based lacquer. Urushiol is a common allergen found in many Anacardiaceae plants
such as poison ivy. It has a boiling point of
200˚ C (392˚ F) and can dissolve in substances such as alcohol. It is composed of a 6 carbon ring with
3 double bonds similar to benzene, 2 hydroxyl groups, and an R group. The R group varies from a
large amount of hydrocarbons (such as (CH2)14CH3, (CH2)7CH=CH(CH2)5CH3,
(CH2)7CH=CHCH2CH=CH(CH2)2CH3 and others).

Pressure ulcers are a widespread and often underestimated health problem in the UK. They occur in 4 10% of patients admitted to hospital (Ward et al, 2010). This essay, using case study 4, will explore the holistic nursing process, and also the biological, sociological, psychological and ethical issues regarding the prevention of pressure ulcers. Losing weight, combined with sleeping in a chair, may have contributed to Lily having a suspected pressure ulcer. Unrelieved pressure, from sitting in a chair for long periods, squeezes the tiny blood vessels in the skin which supply the tissues with oxygen and nutrients. The tissues die when deprived of oxygen and nutrients for too long (Harris, 2009). Older people and those experiencing impaired nutrition are among the groups at risk of developing pressure ulcers (NICE, 2005). The Malnutrition Advisory Group of BAPEN (British Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition) developed the Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST), (Perry, 2009). The MUST is a 5 step screening tool to identify adults who are malnourished, at risk of malnourishment or obese. Lily s body mass index (BMI) will be calculated to obtain her overall risk of malnutrition. By talking to Lily and consulting her medical notes, the nurse can establish Lily s weight loss over the last 3 6 months (BAPEN, 2009). Asking leading questions regarding Lily s dietary habits and appetite will give the nurse an understanding of her nutritional intake. If Lily scored 2 or more in the MUST tool then she would be considered high risk (Perry, 2009). Lily will be assessed for her risk of developing a pressure ulcer. A number of evidence based tools have been developed but the Waterlow pressure ulcer risk ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Asian Immigrants And The American Dream The American Dream, a belief that draws immigrants to the US with the hope being able to work hard for a better life. One of the groups that believe in this dream are Asian Immigrants. Children of these Asian immigrants have a unique expectation to live up to. Their parents came to America in search of a better life, so they are pushed to achieve this desired life. Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan exposes this expectation through the stories of the character s childhoods. But in the real world, these standard push Asian students to the top of their classes and centralized Asian student goals around their grades. Some parents, for example, Amy Chua, have an even higher expectation for their children. Why Chinese mothers are superior, tells of the stereotypical tiger mom, who expects the most of their children, excelling them even further into the vision of the American dream. But even with all the excellence the Asian students emits, university acceptance is another story. Articles like The model minority is losing patience in the Economist and Justice Department investigating Harvard s affirmative action policies by Susan Svrluga and Nick Anderson discuss the disadvantage Asians have when applying to the top universities. With so many Asians prospering in school, the racial quotas universities are suspected of having increase the difficulty for an Asian to be accepted. People who suffer from this impairment, are unable to encode new memories into long term memory but are able to keep them in short term. The movie Fifty First Dates portrays this type of amnesia accurately and inaccurately. The main protagonists of Fifty First Dates are Lucy, played by Drew Barrymore, and Henry, played by Adam Sandler. Lucy suffers from anterograde amnesia due to brain damage. For the most part, the movie is accurate to the impairment and is almost exactly the same as the impairment patients suffer from. Procedural memory is usually memories associated with muscle memory where her body remembers it even if she does not. This is also true to the type of amnesia. She even dreams about Adam Sandler s character even though she is not sure how she knows him. Somehow, her encounters with him are encoded even though she doesn t remember them explicitly. A Real Life Example: FL and Similarities from the Movie What is most interesting is that the movie seems to be based off of a real incident. Smith et. al (2010) wrote about a special case of a patient named FL. She was in a car accident in 2005 and reported difficulty retaining information from one day to the next. She describes her memory as unaffected over the course of the day but when she falls asleep, the memory for each day disappears. FL also, is able to recall things from before her accident. Lucy, a fictional character created for a movie, shares many things in common with FL, thus showing that the film is accurate to the disorder. It also is interesting to know that FL like Lucy was somehow able to remember something s. According to Smith et. al (2010), For some tests, unbeknownst to FL, material learned on the previous day was intermixed with material learned on the same day as the test. In other words, FL sometimes mixed in previously learned material that she did not recall learning due to her impairment with material that she learned that day. • 8. The Importance Of Play On Child Development Introduction to the Issues and Literature Review Play is an important part of children s development, as it helps us to understand their emotional, social, and physical/motor development. Interaction during play, or lack their of, can help to explain a child s temperance, their comprehension of social rules, and their understanding of others (Allen, 2008; Franklin, 2000; Rothbart and Jones, 1998). Physical and motor movements in play can depict a child s sensory tolerance and preferences (Williamson and Anazalone, 2008). Most notable, all of these systems work together in play to understand the rates at which a child is developing and in which areas more support may be needed. As Rothbart and Jones discuss in their piece Temperament, self regulation and education, children that have a stronger Behavioral Inhibition System (fear or anxiety reactions) may be more likely to display introverted or inhibited behavior (1998). These children may be more susceptible to becoming discouraged and may require more positive feedback from their peers or adults. To further explain, they might fear punishment for their actions and need positive reinforcement that their behavior is socially acceptable or they may doubt their own abilities to perform in certain situations. Meiosis According to the Biology Online Organization (2006), Meiosis contained two type of phases meiosis I and meiosis II. In the prophase I, homologous chromosomes in the nucleus begin to pair up with one another and then split into chromatids where crossing over can occur. For metaphase I, the chromosomes will align at the equator of the cell. The bivalents are aligned randomly increasing the genetic variation via independent assortment. In the anaphase 1, the homologous chromosomes move to opposing poles from the equator. A new nuclei will be formed around each pole alongside each new chromosomes compliment in the telophase I. For prophase II, the second meiotic division will be initiated and the nuclear membrane will disappear. In the metaphase II, the pair of chromatids will be lined up at the equator. • 12. A Game Of Balls And Bats Similar Sports This is a game of balls and bats played by two teams, each consisting of nine players. The object is to score runs by hitting a fair ball with the bat. The field is a diamond shape with bases in each corner with an order of first, second, third, and home. After the ball is hit, the runner runs counterclockwise around the bases. When a batter gets to home plate, a point is scored. The batter waits at home plate to receive a pitch from the opposing team s pitcher. The pitcher is set up equally in the middle of all four bases. There is an outer field on the opposite side of home plate where the ball can also be hit to. Each defensive player has a position in the field. The batter gets three chances to make contact with a good pitch. For each good pitch missed, the batter receives a strike. For every pitch that is not good, or outside the strike zone, the batter receives a ball. If the batter gets three strikes it counts as an out. If a batter receives four balls they are allowed to proceed or walk to first. When a ball is hit foul, it will result as a strike, though a batter cannot receive a third strike from a foul ball. When the ball is hit, the fielders are expected to get the ball and throw it to the closest base of which a runner is heading to. If the ball is caught in the air by the fielders, the runner is called out. There are three outs per inning, then the teams switch sides. Due to the power given to police officers and the stresses that accompany that power, police departments across time and the world have turned up some kind of police misconduct or corruption. There are thousands of instances in which the power of an officer has been exercised unethically and unlawfully. Police misconduct and corruption is one of the oldest problems in the police force. Forms of police misconduct can include police crime, occupational crime, corruption, and abuse of authority. Misconduct among police officers can also include negligence and carelessness. While ending police misconduct is crucial, it has proven difficult because of the challenge of defining what constitutes as misconduct, and because misconduct or corruption can go undetected for long amounts of time. Abortions, the practice of removing a fertilized egg from a mother, has become a controversial issue in American society, but should be generally supported because women should have the choice on how they choose their eggs to go on, whether it be to end further growth of the fetus or not. Women have a right to control what happens in and with their body. Being a pro choice defender means taking sympathies to this woman while she then gets called a murderer by pro life supporters. Abortions sometimes results in the woman being harassed because of the choice she has made about her own body. That s what pro life supports. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Normal creatinine concentration values are 0.7 to 1.2 mg/dl and normal BUN values are 10 to 20 mg/dl; this reveals that Mr. Armstrong s kidneys are not removing wastes properly (McCance, Huether, Brashers, Rote, 2014). Nephrotoxins, acute interstitial nephritis, glomerular damage, and vascular damage also correlate with intrarenal acute renal failure (Singh, Levy, Pusey, 2013). Postrenal acute renal failure is usually a result of a urinary tract obstruction that affects the kidneys bilaterally, which causes the intraluminal pressure upstream from the site of the obstruction to increase with a progressive decrease in the glomerular filtration rate (McCance, Huether, Brashers, Rote, 2014). A pattern consisting of several hours of anuria with flank pain followed by polyuria is typically found in individuals with postrenal acute renal failure (McCance, Huether, Brashers, Rote, 2014). What health issues has Mr. Armstrong had that can factor into the development of renal failure? Mr. Armstrong being 76 years old likely plays a factor in his diagnosis, considering that acute renal failure is most common amongst the elderly (Singh, Levy, Pusey 2013). Mr. Armstrong s history of uncontrolled hypertension is likely due to primary hypertension, which is sustained increases in blood pressure due to genetics combined with environmental factors that increase vascular tone and blood volume (McCance, Huether, Brashers, Rote, 2014). The narrator is never identified throughout the story, but when we examine the tone we can understand there is this we person, who changes his/her mind about Miss Emily at certain points in the narration. Planet Of Slums By Mike Davis Essay Mike Davis, author of Planet of Slums, predicts the direction in which the world s cities are headed, and how the changes in living conditions are only going to deteriorate if certain trends continue. The title of his book explains Davis s vision for the future of cities as he feels there is enough evidence pointing towards an exponential rise in slum populations across the world s largest cities. Additionally, he expresses his opinion on many issues regarding the rapid rise in developing cities slum populations, although he offers very one sided arguments geared towards those who feel the current system is causing more problems rather than improving current conditions. This causes Davis to overlook the problems of slums as resolvable through different modes of assistance such as international aid programs. Instead, he views aid programs as the root cause of imbalance created during industrialization. Throughout the book, Davis presents information that confirms his preconceptions towards the slums. Therefore, all the evidence that is presented by him portrays confirmation bias as Davis fails to mention anything about the resolution of the problem of the growing number of slums and instead sees this problem as unavoidable. The ozone is a thin layer of the Earth´s atmosphere which is responsible for absorbing the sun s harmful ultraviolet light ( What is Ozone Layer?,2017). The loss of ozone on earth will take a toll on human health, plants and marine ecosystems, ultimately resulting in a planet that does not support living things. Today, this manifests in climate change. It is easy for many to confuse these two issues, although they are connected in various ways. Loss of the ozone layer is caused by greenhouse gases such as chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs (compounds with chlorine and/or fluorine attached to carbon), as well as , halons (similar compounds with bromine or iodine) (Jain 2015). These chemicals can stay in the atmosphere for up to 100 years causing damage(What is Ozone Layer?,2017). The Republic presents two very different views of justice as argued by two skilled thinkers. The beginning of the discussion starts off with Thrasymachus explaining what exactly he believes justice is; justice is nothing other than the advantage of the stronger. (338c) This statement from Socrates disgusts Thrasymachus because Thrasymachus was simply referring to stronger in the sense of being a ruler, not strong in the sense of being physically larger. To counter Socrates, Thrasymachus explains how different societies are ruled throughout the world whether it be tyrannically, democratically, or otherwise, and how the rulers, those who are strongest, are the ones who make the laws and they do so to their advantage. Thrasymachus establishes this by saying how, A democracy sets down democratic laws; a tyranny, tyrannic laws; and the others do the same. • 42. Rosin Esters Lab Report ESTERIFICATION OF ROSIN TO MAKE ESTER GUM Esterification : It is a reaction between alcohols and carboxylic acids to produce esters. The carboxylic acid group of a rosin acid can be converted to an ester through a reaction with various alcohols. The alcohols typically used to make rosin esters are given below. The molecular weight and functionality of the alcohol determines the softening point of the subsequent ester. Glycerol with three reactive sites is the most commonly used alcohols. Methanol with a single hydroxyl group and tri ethylene glycol with two reactive sites are used to produce liquid and low softening point esters. Lacquer is a wood polish; it is the chemical added to wood to give it the smooth and shiny properties. Without it, the wood of a piano would be a lot more difficult to work with, shrinking the lifespan of the common piano by years if not decades. Without lacquer, the piano and other hammered string instruments may have never become the influential instruments they are today. WHAT IS LACQUER EXACTLY? Lacquer is a polymer of many different bases that when coated on a wooden substance, offers a layer of protection and gloss to a piece of wood. The most common lacquer used on piano frames is a urushiol based lacquer. Urushiol is a common allergen found in many Anacardiaceae plants such as poison ivy. It has a boiling point of 200˚ C (392˚ F) and can dissolve in substances such as alcohol. It is composed of a 6 carbon ring with 3 double bonds similar to benzene, 2 hydroxyl groups, and an R group. The R group varies from a large amount of hydrocarbons (such as (CH2)14CH3, (CH2)7CH=CH(CH2)5CH3, (CH2)7CH=CHCH2CH=CH(CH2)2CH3 and others). ADHESIVES Rosin in a natural organic polymer that is used in many binders and adhesives. Binders help particles to stick to each other or stick to a surface, but adhesives are used to connect pieces or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
