A Review of the Effects of Steroid Hormones and Neuropeptides on Social Emotional Behavior
Bos, Peter A., Panksepp, Jaak, Bluthé, Rose Marie, van Honk, Jack (2011). Acute effects of steroid
hormones and neuropeptides on human social emotional behavior: A review of single administration
studies. Frontiers in Neuroendocrinology 33 (2012) 17 35.
1. Introduction/Background Information The discovery of hormones and their function has been
relatively recent. The term was first coined by Professor Earnest Starling in 1905. He derived the word
from the Greek meaning to arouse or excite. However, the idea of the role hormones could be traced
back as far as ancient Greece. Though Hippocrates theory on humors has been refuted, the ... Show

The neuro developmental effects of these chemicals are comparatively well known, while their impact
on human conduct has yet to be fully comprehended.
2. Goals of the study The main goal of this study was to review all of the placebo controlled single
hormone administration studies addressing human social emotional behavior, involving the peptides
oxytocin and vasopressin, and the steroids testosterone and estradiol. This research gives insight into
the underlying neural mechanisms and also demonstrates substantial hormonal control over human
behavior. After reviewing and discussing the placebo controlled studies, they proposed a theoretical
model that synthesized detailed knowledge of neuroendocrinology of social emotional behavior in
animals, as well as the recently gained data on humans. The study of emotional and behavioral
disorders have become more popular in the last twenty years. Characteristics of these irregularities
include: learning disabilities that are not explainable by either sensory, health, or intellectual factors;
persistently inappropriate feelings and conduct; and/or chronic unhappiness or depression (gadoe.org).
The authors of this study thoroughly analyzed the underlying neural mechanisms of supplemental
hormones and how they affect participants as opposed to using a placebo. Research into human
behavior as it relates to neuroendocrinology will be crucial to future generations and their
interrelations.

Diversity And Inclusion Of An Organization
In a survey, 24 executives were asked way advancing diversity in their organizations was so important
to them. The majority believe it was a business imperative because their companies needed it to stay
competitive, and they believed it was a moral imperative because of their companies needed of their
personal experiences and values (Broysberg Connolly, 2013). Steve Reinemund was the first senior
leader at PepsiCo to focus on diversity and inclusion from a perspective of changing the entire culture

grow, to be who God made us to be, to exercise our assortment of ideas, openness, dignity and
inclusion. The purpose of this paper is to introduce several CEO s who have made contributions to a
cultural difference in the workplace and how the contributions may have affected their work life.

Compare And Contrast Mitosis And Meiosis
Comparing Mitosis and Meiosis
Inside the human body, there are two different cells who help the reproductive system. Those are
Mitosis and meiosis which are similar and different than one another.
There are many ways that mitosis and meiosis are similar such as them having always having a
Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase,Telophase (PMAT). In addition, both of them have their own
interphase at the start of the PMAT. Also, since they have a PMAT then they will always create cells
during it which would mean that PMAT will always repeat. Without Mitosis and Meiosis, the human
population would already be extinct. Even though they have their similarities they also have their own
differents. Everything is different in their own way. Mitosis and

How Computers Has Changed The World
There are 7 individuals on the planet who hold the key to the web. If in the occasion of a significant
disaster the web is closed down these key holders will together have the capacity to reboot an essential
piece of the framework. Computers are a radiant deed of engineering. They have developed from
straightforward number crunchers to machines with numerous functions and abilities. Computers have
gotten to be common to the point that practically every home has no less than one computer, and
schools discover them a decent hotspot for data and training for their understudies. Computers have
made new professions and dispensed with others and have left an enormous effect on our general
public. The development of the computer has incredibly influenced expressions of the human
experience, the business world, and society and history in numerous diverse zones, yet to see how
extraordinary these progressions are, it is important to examine the sources of the computers.
Innovation has changed the world and the future holds greater creations for every one of us. Numerous
individuals have helped innovation. Three of the numerous individuals who have helped engineering
are Tim Berners Lee, Steve Ballmer, and Linus Torvalds. Without specific individuals we may have
not seen a large portion of these new advances turning out so soon, but I believe the future holds more.

She then had died and this was very sad. She was
shot to death and told Marius how much she loved him and gave him the
last letter of Cossette. Eponine was a character that stood as a heroic
figure in the story for what she did for Marius. She also was a very kind and
compassionate person, because she was the one who found Cossette.
Eponine had a miserable and in the end it led to a tragic ending for her life.
Another character that demonstrated a miserable was Jean
Vajean. He begins as a criminal and convict with absolutely no scruples. A kindly
prelate forgives him after a theft, and simply turns the other cheek. This act of
unexpected generosity inspires Valjean to turn his life around, and for the most
part, he succeeds in doing so. He becomes a wealthy respected philanthropist,
but doing so puts him in a conspicuous position. The merciless police officer J
Javert hounds him until his existence is discovered and he in again incarcerated.
By this time, Valjean has involved himself with a young girl and become her
father figure of sorts. He makes a daring escape from jail, and is able to hide
from the law with his daughter , Cossette. Valjean settles down for a good
while, until Cossette grows up. Valjean then decides to help fight in the
barricades. He escapes and meets Javert again and Javert sets him free again.

The Characters Of Harry Potter
The Harry Potter book series has sold over 450 million copies and is currently translated into almost
every language on the face of the earth ( Harry Potter ). Millions have faithfully followed the story
about this magical world and have fallen in love with the many enchanting characters. What most
readers do not recognize is the prominence that classical Greek/Roman mythological allusions play in
the beloved roles in Harry Potter through their names and personality attributes. The importance of
names is extremely significant to a person s identity, especially in literature where words are meant to
bring stories to life. Rowling continues this concept through her characters by linking her characters
names to classical folklore charismas that share similar personas. Rowling does a fantastic job with
cleverly connecting her characters to classical Greek/Roman mythological figures through the
etymology of their names and similar personality traits to their wizard counterparts, such as Professor
McGonagall and Filch. An apparent allusion to a classical mythological figure is the Hogwarts
transfiguration professor Minerva McGonagall. Professor McGonagall is an extremely intelligent
woman, which is seen because she is tenured teacher who is respected by both her students and fellow
professors. She is also known as an excellent strategist in wizard duels, which can be seen clearly in
Rowling s last installment when McGonagall duels and defeats Snape when he is in search of Harry

The Maltese Falcon Gender Roles
Women have different personalities and motivations, and they form relationships with men for many
different reasons. Some of these reasons include love, money, and even lust and manipulation. The
Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett is a novel about Sam Spade, who is a huge figure of the hard
boiled detective genre. Sam Spade goes on a quest to find a valuable falcon, solve murders and jump
over the obstacle that surround him on a daily basis. The novel is also about the three women who
surround Spade during his quest. The names of these women are Iva Archer, Effie Perine, and Brigid
O Shaughnessy, and they all have different roles in Sam Spade s life. In The Maltese Falcon by
Dashiell Hammett, Brigid O Shaughnessy plays the role of femme fatale, Iva Archer plays the role of
Spade s unfortunate future, and Effie Perine plays the role of Spade s right hand woman. Brigid O
Shaughnessy plays the role of femme fatale, meaning deadly woman in French, and she uses her
femininity to manipulate Sam Spade. For example, Brigid lies to persuade Spade to keep helping her,
And the lie was in the way I said it, and not at all in what I said. She turned away, no longer holding
herself erect. It is my own fault that you can t believe me now. Spade s face reddened and he looked
down at the floor, muttering: Now you are dangerous (Hammett 36). Spade acknowledges that she
draws him in with her good looks, and that she makes him feel sympathy towards her, which is giving
Brigid the upper hand towards Spade. Brigid is described as a very attractive woman in the book, and
this is the other way she controls Spade like a puppet. For example, she has control over Spade by
sleeping with him, She puts her hands up to Spade s cheeks, put her open mouth hard against his
mouth, her body flat against his body (Hammett 89). It can be inferred that after that, they end up
sleeping with each other and this is a way that Brigid builds up an emotional connection to Spade, so
he will be on her side and trust her more than anyone else. Ultimately, Spade ends up betraying Brigid,
and tells the cops about the murders she commits. Spade admits he loves Brigid but it will not keep
him from telling the cops about Brigid murdering Archer, You

How Did The Light Bulb Have Revolutionized The World
Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one
more time . This was a quote said by Thomas Edison who was a great inventor and inspired many. The
light bulb was one of his many inventions that have revolutionized the world, because it has changed
many lifestyles.
The light bulb was invented in 1879 by Thomas Edison. The light bulb was incandescent which had a
filament and metal wires. The light bulb is powered by the filament which sends the electrical current
to the bulb. The light bulb converts electricity into heat which makes the filament get very hot so it
glows, thus producing light. These light bulbs were very inefficient because only 3% of the energy
that went into the incandescent

Essay about Lucid Dreaming
An individual obtains about seven to eight hours sleeping per night and according to the dream
encyclopedia (2009) we spend approximately one third of our lives in a state of sleep, much of the
night filled with dreams (p.16). Judith Duerk, who is a well renowned writer, refers to a dream as an
alternate course which can change a person s entire life. The Dream Encyclopedia points out that the
meaning of a dream would be, a spiritual world distant from the physical, in no way demeaning their
definition, but a dream is a way to motivate a person spiritually in order to physically and mentally

organizing ones long term or short term goals.
A dictionary of any kind, by any person, of any edition would define lucid dreaming in similar ways,

Inaccuracy In Genetic Testing
Although researchers and scientists always aim to develop further beneficial advancements, some of
them might be as harmful and still controversial as they are supposed to be beneficial. Genetic
technologies are advancing at a very high rate. For example, genetic testing is widely available
nowadays. It is a test that identifies whether an individual is carrying the gene for a specific disease or
disorder. Through genetic testing, parents can be provided with genetic information about the health of
the fetus by simply taking a blood sample and testing it. However, implications arise as genetic
technology is not very accurate. Although a positive result indicates a higher possibility of carrying
the disease or disorder and a negative result indicates a lower possibility, there is always that other
possibility of a false result (Women s Health Care Physicians). Inaccuracy in genetic testing causes a
controversial question on whether individuals should risk the choices by trusting and basing their life
on nothing but expected results. Even more concern is caused due to rejections of going through
genetic testing and consequently, a possibility of giving birth to a defected baby and not taking benefit
of the technology. Many agree that not taking a genetic test avoids a lot of the emotional issues and
stress that could arise with the results. Others believe that this technology should play a major part of
everyone s life as it allows individuals to be more aware of the

The Characteristics Of Male And Women In Detective Novels
In detective novels and films, men characters are portrayed to be the definition of a masculine male
and women are portrayed as the persuasive, and vulnerable female. The man detective is grounded,
straightforward, attentive to detail, and a lone wolf. Women are portrayed as a distraught, damsel in
distress, not independent searching for a man for support and saving. In the film, The Big Sleep
directed by Howard Hawks and written by Raymond Chandler creates the character Detective
Marlowe who interest and passion is his detective work. He shows no emotion to not make himself
vulnerable to the outside world and all the people that are connected with it. In detective stories
women are portrayed as being flirtatious using the title of being a women to get what they want. A
damsel in distress is what the majority of women play in detective novels. They turn to the detective
or other men in the story for protection and guidance. Carmen is presented as a flirtatious,
promiscuous woman but yet evil and tainted.
In the novel Too Many have lived and They Can Only Hang You Once both written by Dashiell
Hammett introduces the reader to Detective Samual Spade who similar to Detective Marlowe
dedicated his time and efforts into solving crimes, catching killers, and protecting the people s safety.
He creates a hard exterior to the world and shows no sympathy or emotion. There are many similar
characteristic traits shared between both Detective Marlowe and Detective Spade. The man

Ancient Egyptian Social Classes
Social classes have divided people since the beginning of human civilization and still continue to keep
people separated in a world where it is encouraged that people work together. In ancient Egyptian
society, social classes were made to establish power and keep a chain of command. At the bottom of
the Egyptian social classes were the slaves and servants while the Pharaohs were above all (Egyptian).
Social classes in different societies are based on different things like occupation or, in today s society,
the amount of money one makes. During segregation in the 1950 s, the racial classes of white and
black basically served the same purpose as the social classes but was much more extreme. However,
when people die, those social classes mean absolutely nothing. The proverb, After the game, the king
and the pawn go into the same box means it does not matter where someone stands in society,
everyone dies eventually. The unknown author of this quote referenced the game of chess and uses
some of the words to symbolize other things. The word box in the quote is a symbol for death and the
game symbolizes life. In the game of chess, a piece is moved off to the side of the board after the
pieces are knocked off. All the pieces go in the same pile whether it is a king, bishop, or ... Show more

Rousseau General Will Analysis
In Basic Political Writings by Jean Jacques Rousseau, Rousseau talks about general will. The general
will is perhaps the most difficult concept Rousseau had to face. Rousseau explains that the general
will relates to sovereignty. Sovereignty is a state that govern itself. Here Rousseau says, I therefore
maintain that since sovereignty is merely the exercise of the general will (Rousseau, pg.153). The
general will is the common good for the state as a whole. The common good is when it benefits
everyone. Everyone can vote on issues and other matters. Rousseau says, It is therefore essential, if
the general will is to be able to express itself, that there should be no partial society within the State,
and that each citizen should think only his own thoughts (Rousseau, pg.156). The United States is one
of many countries around the world where the general will is present. In Rousseau s book, Rousseau
emphasize how important the general will is.
Here Rousseau says: As long as several men assembled together consider themselves as a single body,
they have only one will which is directed towards their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Rousseau, laws should benefit the people and should be applied to all members of states.
Laws should be followed because in order to keep the loyalty of the people. To keep the loyalty of the
people good laws must be established. Rousseau says, Good laws lead to the making of better ones;
bad ones bring about worse (Rousseau, pg.199). This can be true in some ways. Take the presidency in
the United States. In the United States Constitution, the president is only allowed two terms in office.
First the Constitution was formed to help develop the United States then after many amendments were
added to the United States Constitution, the twenty second amendment was added to prevent the
leader of the United States to assume ultimate power. A positive and a positive could only result in a

Essay on Police in Ontario
Policing in Ontario
1. What are the different types of police forces we have in Ontario and how do they differ and how are
they the same?
In Ontario, we have three different types of police forces. They are the municipal which are the
numbered divisions within a city, provincial which is the Ontario Provincial Police, and federal which
is the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Municipal police forces are established by the municipalities
and are usually in every major city. If a city has a population of approximately 50 000 100 000, then
they usually contract out the policing to the RCMP such as in the case of Burnaby and Northern
Vancouver, B.C. Municipal police forces are the most common type of policing found in ... Show

Another reason why I strongly believe that policing in Ontario is good is because of the T.A.V.I.S.
program. The Toronto Anti Violence Intervention Strategy is a group of officers who focus on
community policing and interaction with the community. They are deployed within a neighbourhood
who are experiencing a rise in crime, and it s their job to try to figure out the root cause of the problem
by cooperating with the community. Their goals are to make neighbourhoods safer, not by arresting
more people, but by the reduction of crime. Even though I believe policing in Ontario is good, there
can obviously be changes or enhancements in order to be more effective. First off, Ontario needs to
recognize aboriginal policing as a fully fledged police force. Not only are they more effective than
regular police, they are also the preferred policing amongst the aboriginal people themselves. One of
the most important aspects the police have to work on is community support and trust. They need to
reach out and communicate with the communities. I say this because I believe the reputation of
officers is tarnished, especially amongst any persons in priority neighbourhoods under the age of 30.
In order to prove this, I went to the Kingston/Galloway area which is one of the priority
neighbourhoods. I interviewed approximately 15 people of all different races, ages (under 30), and
nationalities. Remarkably, not a single person

Osborne v. Ohio
37 Ohio St.3d 249, 525 N.E2d1363
Osborne v. Ohio, 495 U.S. 103 (1990), is a Supreme Court of the United States case in which the
Court held that the First Amendment allows states to outlaw the mere possession, as distinct from the
distribution, of child pornography. After Ohio police found photographs in petitioner Osborne s home,
each of which depicted a nude male adolescent posed in sexually explicit position, he was convicted
of violating a state statute prohibiting any person from possessing or viewing any material or
performance showing a minor who is not his child or ward in a state of nudity unless the material or
performance is presented for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These harms include the psychological damage to children; both the children depicted in the
pornography, for whom the images produced serve as a permanent record of the abuse, and the
children whom potential abusers might lure with such images. They were worried more upon
protecting the children and not having other children been lured when seeing the other children s
images. Given the importance of the State s interest in protecting the victims of child pornography, we
cannot fault Ohio for attempting to stamp out this vice at all levels in the distribution chain. Even if
the First Amendment did not categorically forbid the government to ban the possession of child
pornography, Osborne argued that the Ohio statute under which he was convicted was overbroad. A
ban on speech is overbroad if it outlaws both prohibited speech as well as a substantial amount of
legitimate speech. The statute, as written, banned depictions of nudity, and the Court had previously
held that nudity was protected expression. But the Ohio Supreme Court had held that the statute only
applied to nudity that constitutes a lewd exhibition or involves a graphic focus on the genitals, and
where the person depicted is neither the child nor the ward of the person charged with violating it.
Furthermore, the Ohio Supreme Court had required that the defendant had to know that the images

A Report On Pike River Mine Essay
Pike river mine was in a lot trouble and needed something to get rid of financial debts that had piled
up over the years. The mine was new and the owner, Pike River Coal Ltd, had not completed the
systems and infrastructure necessary to safely produce coal. It s health and safety systems were poorly
maintained and the ventilation and methane drainage systems weren t coping with everything the
company was trying to do for example, driving roadways through coal and drilling into the coal seam
and extracting coal by hydro mining, a method known to produce large quantities of methane. They
wanted to start a system called hydro mining . Hydro mining uses a high pressure jet of water to carve
coal from the surface or the coalface, which was found to be well suited to the coal seams of New
Zealand s West Coast. In 2008, he (Nishioka) was asked to draw up a plan for a hydro system at pike
river mine and to put forward a budget and price to supply most of the requirements as well as
equipment needed. When Masaoki Nishioka arrived at Pike River Mine he found he was in a situation
that was much worse than he had expected.
The mines core infrastructure wasn t ready for hydro mining to begin with because it was still reliant
on a small backup fan located at the top of the ventilation shaft and the main fan, which was the mines
source of ventilation, wasn t installed yet and there was no emergency exit. Also, the company had

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Crime Statistics
During this essay, I will be discussing recorded crime statistics and victimisation surveys as they are
our primary techniques of measuring levels and trends of crime. After briefly explaining what is meant
by these terms, I will seek to evaluate their strengths and weaknesses in order to question the extent to
which they are reliable resources that provide us with accurate information.
Firstly, recorded crime statistics are collated through the collection of data by law enforcement
agencies, such as the police in England and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in America. It
focuses on the crime that is reported by the public and then what is chosen to be recorded by the
police. During the mid late 19th century, these statistics formed the basis of information about crime,
however, although they still provide raw data for publications such as the Offenders Index, they are
now viewed critically. This is because, according to Mayhew and Hough (1988), the recorded crime
statistics are adequate as a measure of police workload, but because of unreported and unrecorded
crime deficient as an index of crime .
Secondly, the Home Office funded a national victimisation survey which was originally known as the
British Crime Survey, with the purpose of interviewing a representative sample of the population
about their experiences of crime and victimisation in the last 12 months. Since 2011/12, it is now
known as the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) as Scotland and

The Importance Of The Right To Privacy
Property is paramount regarding the individual rights of citizens. United States Founders considered it
as the foundation of freedom and prosperity. In fact, James Madison stated government is instituted to
protect property of every sort...This being the end of government, that alone is just government, which
impartially secures to every man, whatever is his own. Originally, the right for citizens to freely
acquire, use, and dispose of property was protected by common law, state law and the constitution.
However, as the nation grew and this concept became more complex, property rights have been
severely compromised. For instance, there is much disagreement on what the right to privacy concept
within the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution actually protects.
Originally, the Court tended to view the right to privacy as place orientated and property based (739).
This narrow range of protections was understandable but was limited primarily to criminal procedure,
specifically the protections against search and seizures. For example, the courts repeatedly use the
proverb A man s home is his castle , however, this concept is explicitly place orientated and property
based. The issue with this narrow view of property is that it fails to protect property that is non
physical, such as an original concept, copyright material, music and other entities that were not
necessarily factors in the 18th century. Rossum acknowledges this issue stating, Anything less than

INTRODUCTION
As a parent, you are faced with a number of trials and tribulations. You have the responsibility to
ensure your children s proper care. Childcare is one of the dilemmas parents face. Childcare should be

of getting their children safe home, to an institution for child care or a home care provider. While
recovering, from the tension of the falling economy leaves parents to cope with the new challenge of
high schools that do not have transportation to and from school, because the school system has
decided to reduce student transportation . According to the California Department of Education,

You take a test of which it asks you how will you react in a situation and askes which word do you

the Myer Briggs personality test is great at describing one s personality. I think it described me very
well and I agree with everything it described me as, the good and the bad. I think the Big Five trait

between Myer Briggs and the big five test, is that the Myer Briggs test gives you ways to improve

What Makes Architecture Real
Project Report:
Jon 9. Grade
Architecture
Architecture is a word of common knowledge, as I think it should and is at least for the people around
me that i know. For me the word is always associated with architect, because an architect is the one
who makes architecture real. Architecture as people understand it nowadays probably came to life
with the species homo sapiens because they are self conscious, before it was just a very primitive
thing. You could say DNA is an architect because it builds, in fact it is probably the best and wisest
architect humans know of, therefore we are also architecture because anything that is built and is
physical can be architecture by definition even Wikipedia states that. This is is all very philosophical.
All form of art are connected with philosophy and so is architecture. Architecture is considered art,
plus everything that involves with it like the process of designing.
Architecture was the first art form on this planet, everything existing is in reality architecture, noone
never said architecture had to be created by a conscious being. If universe just came into existence,
therefore nothingness itself is an architect.
Therefore nothingness could be conscious, just vacuum or something more. ... Show more content on

Nowadays building are not that practical anymore, there have been buildings just for the show like the
Eiffel tower. In fact there have been buildings just for show since the beginning of first civilizations.
Temples for gods, pyramids for pharaos, arcs for victorious battles. Still architecture has to stay
practical and efficient, if not, we could not support 7 billion people on this earth. For example building
a house which fits 5 families inside comfortably when it could as well fit in 15 families same
comfortably with the same amount of effort put in. In other words not doing anything

Nurse Attrition
Novice nurse attrition rates continue to haunt the profession of nursing, with rates as high as 30%
leaving within the first year, and as high as 57% by the second year (Chandler, 2012; Laschinger,
Grau, Finegan, Wilk, 2012). These new graduate nurses who leave the profession commonly report
reaching a state of burnout (Suzuki, Tagaya, Ota, Nagasawa, Matsuura, Sato, 2010). Furthermore, with
an aging nurse population, high attrition rates only compound the threat of an impending nursing
shortage. While multiple studies identify and explore the independent stressors that may be
contributing to the new graduate nurses intent to leave, little to no research exists that explains why,
despite similar practice environments, some nurses engage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Finally, Aaron Antonovsky s (1979) concept of sense of coherence, offers insight into why there are
variances in the perception of unmet needs and the experience of stress. Sense of coherence is a
descriptor of one s orientation to life and a predictive tool for health outcomes. It describes one s
degree of confidence to manage life s stressors and feelings of optimism that events will work out
reasonably. These feelings of control and optimism can free one up to look forward to new and
exhilarating opportunities and in essence, toward a more self actualized way of being and doing
(Antonovsky, 1979). He suggested that contextual factors determine whether one has the protective
resources to manage stimuli. The attainment of these protective resources determines whether stimuli
are stressful and resolvable. If one cannot resolve workplace stressors, or optimistically reorient how
they perceive a workplace stressor, they may not be able to engage in self actualization as a novice
nurse. For this study, Maslow s (1943) theory, supported by the work of Rogers (1959) and
Antonovsky (1979), provides a roadmap of factors that may distract or even disable novice nurses
from engaging in self actualization in the

Wolves In North America
There was a time when wolves could be found almost anywhere in North America. But that time was
short lived. In the mid 1900 s, Gray wolves, Mexican Gray Wolves, and Red Wolves, were hunted to
near extinction. Less than three hundred lived near the Great Lakes, and there were fewer than fifty in
captivity. However, a few years later, some wolves were captured and they were reintroduced into
other states. Since then they have repopulated, but they are far from a stable population. If some
people have their way, history may repeat itself and we could lose these animals all together. Over one
hundred years ago, America began the war with wolves. Wolves posed a threat to America at the time,

Summary Of The Reclaiming The American Dream Report
In the Reclaiming the American Dream report (AACC, 2012), seven recommendations were suggested
to meet the needs of the students, as well as having a strong community college system. Hence, these
recommendation address redesigning students educational experiences, reinventing institutional roles,
and resetting the system to create incentives for students and institutional triumphs.
Recommendation One A section of recommendation one is to increase completion rates of students
earning community college credentials (certificates and associate degrees) by fifty percent by 2020.
(AACC, 2012 p. 26). Although recommendation one is certainly obtainable, completing the goal by
2020 is doubtful. As an administrator, in order to see a goal this large come to manifestation, everyone
has to get on the bus, and asking the same question who instead of what then, and only then will a goal
this large will manifest ( Collins, 2001). However, utilizing particular strategies to accomplish the goal
will help toward achieving the goal. In doing that, students would be served more effectively and
more efficiently, because staff and faculty would be more intentional regarding the service rendered.
Affective academic advising is an essential and sure way to promote students retention (O Banion,
1997). In addition, using strategies to construct coherent, structured pathways to complete degrees,
promote transfers from community colleges to four year institutions, and to assist students

Glomerulonephritis Essay
Glomerulonephritis (GN), or the inflammation of glomeruli, is a leading cause of renal failure
worldwide. Inflammation is characterized by vascular fragility, infiltration of leukocytes, and edema.
Glomerular disease may manifest by three major syndromes: nephritic syndrome, nephrotic syndrome,
and rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis (RPGN). Nephritic syndrome consists of sudden onset of
hematuria, non nephrotic range proteinuria (1.5 g/24 h), active sediment with red blood cell (RBC)
casts or dysmorphic RBCs, acute renal failure, and hypertension. Nephrotic syndrome is characterized
by heavy proteinuria ( 3.5 g/24 h), edema, hypoalbuminemia, and hyperlipidemia. RPGN is
characterized by active sediment (RBC casts and dysmorphic RBCs) and rapid development of acute
renal failure usually over a period of weeks to months. Glomerulonephritis accounts for the majority
of progressive renal disease in many parts of the world.
ETIOLOGY
Glomerulonephritis has diverse etiologies related to disorders of the immune system, including
abnormal immunoglobulin and complement regulation. Glomerulonephritis is caused by immune
processes that lead to deposition of antibodies and complement within the glomerulus. This results in
injury to intrinsic glomerular cells, infiltration of leukocytes and damage to the capillary ... Show

On the other hand, there has always been a class of people who have time and skills but not enough
money. In terms of simple economics, the on demand economy has provided a space where the

the whole society gains because its idle resources are put to use. Startups, which act as middlemen,

of the programme, this increases to about $1.5 billion per launch (p. 38). This source brought a new
perspective into my thought process about how costly the space programs can be. The authors of the
article presented the information though graphs as well, which I intend to include in my final research

1. Introduction
Security in the age of internet has become a tremendously important issue to provide comfort not only
for paranoid people but for many others who are naïve to believe that protection in digital era is
essential to communication between millions of people that increasingly used as a tool for commerce.
There are many aspects to security and applications, from secure commerce and payment to private
communications and protecting passwords. Cryptography, is the practice and study in securing
communication between parties in the presence of potential adversaries (Yousuf, N.D.). This report
focuses on modern methods of cryptography its operation, strengths and weaknesses, its application
techniques in computing and some other aspects where cryptography deemed essential as discussed in
this report.
Moreover, it is important to note that while cryptography is necessary for secure communications, this
report is not by itself sufficient. The reader is advice then, that the topics covered in this paper only
describe the first of the many steps necessary for better security in a number of situations.

diseases and teenage pregnancies, it is needed in case of a parents absence or neglect, and it also
provides more knowledge about how sex works while debunking the myths surrounding sexual
intercourse, and it makes some want to set goals for relationships. People say sex education
encourages youth to engage in sexual activities rather than preventing sex. This is true; however,

Students aren t getting the information that they need from the right places. Talking to friends or
learning from social media is not the best way to learn about important topics such as sex. Many
students don t know how to prevent catching an STD because the information is not available in
school. There will always be peers who will badly influence others. That is why sex education should
be implemented in schools so the youth have a reliable non biased adult to guide them into their own
adulthood and are not just basing it off misconceptions. Myths and misconceptions play a big role in
why youth engage in sex without considering the effects it can have. Many believe sex is an all access
enjoyment activity because of the influence from outside sources like music, movies, and television.
However, I state again, that with proper knowledge from both the pros and cons of engaging in sexual
activity better choices can be made that will potentially save lives of many young people today and
saving them the embarrassment of contracting an STD. When talking about sex, students are often
embarrassed to open up about how they feel about it or what they know about it. Some adults say sex

Rousseau s State Of Nature
Rousseau defines the state of nature as The hypothetical, prehistoric place and time where human
beings live uncorrupted by society (Editors). According to Rousseau, in the state of nature people have
complete physical freedom and are at liberty to do whatever they want (Editors). The state of nature
for Rousseau is where human beings have not discovered rationality or morality (Editors). The state of
nature keeps us from turning psychopathic as opposed to society who Rousseau says is to blame for
our behavior and short comings.
Rousseau interpretation of the state of nature was a man will act like a savage if they need food,
sexual satisfaction, and sleep (Giampietri). In the process of acting like a savage they fear hunger and

In general, Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau all agree the only thing that is important to a man other than
self preservation is his immediate needs, so luxuries are not seen as vital in his opinion. Rousseau
compares a savage looks to that of a wild animal, the difference being a man s free will and the ability
of self improvement (Giampietri). Still self improvement can either bring progress or misfortune to
mankind. In Rousseau s opinion the goodness in the state of nature is polluted thanks to civilization
and progress leaving us no chance to go back to that state.
However, Rousseau s aspect on mortality in the state of nature is there is no room for law, right and
mortality (Giampietri). In other words, we do not harm others because we have a natural distaste to
seeing people in pain or suffering. Such as, Hobbes and Locke assumption that we will fall in a state
of war which Rousseau feels they over estimates. Rousseau imagines in state of war a man will feel
horrible for the harm caused to other fellows. To Rousseau in a state of nature man are equal.
Rousseau attitude towards private property is different than Locke s view. Rousseau feels the only
outcome that will occur of owning private property is inequality, mutual dependence, and jealousy.
When the social contract first came out many people did not agree with it. In fact, the Paris authorities
immediately banned it after its arrival (Delaney). The social contract job is to tell how a government

Marie Moreau And Alain Delon Star Persona
Both Jeanne Moreau and Alain Delon star persona s are notable for being embodiments of two
distinctly different approaches to France s burgeoning modernity in a post war context. Though each
star s representation of a new form of French modernity deviate due to their different gendered
experiences. Their images of modernity challenged traditional codes and conventions of France s past
and represented different and new ideas of the French individual. These challenges were particularly
gendered, through their perpetuation of new ideals and images of gender in French society. In the case

She lived a new form of bourgeois lifestyle that was affluent, cultivated but more anti conformist and
less cynical, despite remaining very consumeristic. Her focus on leisure as well as individual freedom,
represented another key aspect of French modernity in its mirroring of capitalist and Western ideology.
This behaviour could be seen in her private life and film roles, as she smoked, drunk and strolled the
streets of urban environments, while going to street bars, cafes, casinos. Just like like the modern
female Moreau showed a boredom with traditional bourgeois life and her role as an urban woman, was
a departure of typical conceptions of French femininity, that kept the woman in the domesticated
sphere. This urban femininity can be seen in many of her film roles, such as the 1957 Louis Malle
directed film Ascenseur Pour l Échafaud (Elevators to the Gallows). The film captures her freedom to
wander and traverse the environment through its use of tracking shots that trace her movement and
emphasise her belonging and control over the space. Moreau s modernity must also be considered
through her significant role as an actor of the New Wave. In many ways Jeanne Moreau became a
personification of the New Wave style in her star persona, and this shaped her image of femininity. As
a New Wave star, Moreau rejected, the overly constructed image of the French female, that dominated
the persona of previous stars. Unlike previous

Inspirations for Youth and Families treatment center. Client was arrested for shop lifting but was also

The author used an ABAB design with the client. The ABAB design represents an effort to measure a
baseline, a treatment measurement, the withdrawal of treatment, and the re introduction of treatment.
The author chose the design because it involves two parts including gathering of baseline information,
the application of a treatment and measurement of the effects of the treatment; and of what happens
when the treatment is removed and then again applying the treatment and measuring the change. With
the amount of time allowed, the ABAB design worked best.

American popular culture has always had a great influence on Japan. Thus, the design of the Tokyo
Disneyland was virtually identical to the Anaheim Disneyland. Most aspects of the Tokyo Disneyland

Tokyo Disneyland had even become a special cultural haven in Japan. Despite the different way of life
between Japan and the U.S., Japanese people maintained great interests in the Disney s brand of
entertainment. The annual festive party on the New Year s Day and Evening has been an extremely
popular celebration. And feedbacks from Tokyo Disneyland visitors were overwhelmingly positive. As
a result, managers of Disney were convinced that everything they imported that worked in the U.S.

  • 8. The Characters Of Harry Potter The Harry Potter book series has sold over 450 million copies and is currently translated into almost every language on the face of the earth ( Harry Potter ). Millions have faithfully followed the story about this magical world and have fallen in love with the many enchanting characters. What most readers do not recognize is the prominence that classical Greek/Roman mythological allusions play in the beloved roles in Harry Potter through their names and personality attributes. The importance of names is extremely significant to a person s identity, especially in literature where words are meant to bring stories to life. Rowling continues this concept through her characters by linking her characters names to classical folklore charismas that share similar personas. Rowling does a fantastic job with cleverly connecting her characters to classical Greek/Roman mythological figures through the etymology of their names and similar personality traits to their wizard counterparts, such as Professor McGonagall and Filch. An apparent allusion to a classical mythological figure is the Hogwarts transfiguration professor Minerva McGonagall. Professor McGonagall is an extremely intelligent woman, which is seen because she is tenured teacher who is respected by both her students and fellow professors. She is also known as an excellent strategist in wizard duels, which can be seen clearly in Rowling s last installment when McGonagall duels and defeats Snape when he is in search of Harry ... • 9. The Maltese Falcon Gender Roles Women have different personalities and motivations, and they form relationships with men for many different reasons. Some of these reasons include love, money, and even lust and manipulation. The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett is a novel about Sam Spade, who is a huge figure of the hard boiled detective genre. Sam Spade goes on a quest to find a valuable falcon, solve murders and jump over the obstacle that surround him on a daily basis. The novel is also about the three women who surround Spade during his quest. The names of these women are Iva Archer, Effie Perine, and Brigid O Shaughnessy, and they all have different roles in Sam Spade s life. In The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett, Brigid O Shaughnessy plays the role of femme fatale, Iva Archer plays the role of Spade s unfortunate future, and Effie Perine plays the role of Spade s right hand woman. Brigid O Shaughnessy plays the role of femme fatale, meaning deadly woman in French, and she uses her femininity to manipulate Sam Spade. For example, Brigid lies to persuade Spade to keep helping her, And the lie was in the way I said it, and not at all in what I said. She turned away, no longer holding herself erect. It is my own fault that you can t believe me now. Spade s face reddened and he looked down at the floor, muttering: Now you are dangerous (Hammett 36). Spade acknowledges that she draws him in with her good looks, and that she makes him feel sympathy towards her, which is giving Brigid the upper hand towards Spade. Brigid is described as a very attractive woman in the book, and this is the other way she controls Spade like a puppet. For example, she has control over Spade by sleeping with him, She puts her hands up to Spade s cheeks, put her open mouth hard against his mouth, her body flat against his body (Hammett 89). It can be inferred that after that, they end up sleeping with each other and this is a way that Brigid builds up an emotional connection to Spade, so he will be on her side and trust her more than anyone else. Ultimately, Spade ends up betraying Brigid, and tells the cops about the murders she commits. Inaccuracy In Genetic Testing Although researchers and scientists always aim to develop further beneficial advancements, some of them might be as harmful and still controversial as they are supposed to be beneficial. Genetic technologies are advancing at a very high rate. For example, genetic testing is widely available nowadays. It is a test that identifies whether an individual is carrying the gene for a specific disease or disorder. Through genetic testing, parents can be provided with genetic information about the health of the fetus by simply taking a blood sample and testing it. However, implications arise as genetic technology is not very accurate. Although a positive result indicates a higher possibility of carrying the disease or disorder and a negative result indicates a lower possibility, there is always that other possibility of a false result (Women s Health Care Physicians). Inaccuracy in genetic testing causes a controversial question on whether individuals should risk the choices by trusting and basing their life on nothing but expected results. Even more concern is caused due to rejections of going through genetic testing and consequently, a possibility of giving birth to a defected baby and not taking benefit of the technology. In ancient Egyptian society, social classes were made to establish power and keep a chain of command. The general will is perhaps the most difficult concept Rousseau had to face. Rousseau explains that the general will relates to sovereignty. Sovereignty is a state that govern itself. The common good is when it benefits everyone. Everyone can vote on issues and other matters. Rousseau says, It is therefore essential, if the general will is to be able to express itself, that there should be no partial society within the State, and that each citizen should think only his own thoughts (Rousseau, pg.156). The United States is one of many countries around the world where the general will is present. In Rousseau s book, Rousseau emphasize how important the general will is. In Ontario, we have three different types of police forces. They are the municipal which are the numbered divisions within a city, provincial which is the Ontario Provincial Police, and federal which is the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Municipal police forces are established by the municipalities and are usually in every major city. If a city has a population of approximately 50 000 100 000, then they usually contract out the policing to the RCMP such as in the case of Burnaby and Northern Vancouver, B.C. Another reason why I strongly believe that policing in Ontario is good is because of the T.A.V.I.S. program. The Toronto Anti Violence Intervention Strategy is a group of officers who focus on community policing and interaction with the community. They are deployed within a neighbourhood who are experiencing a rise in crime, and it s their job to try to figure out the root cause of the problem by cooperating with the community. Their goals are to make neighbourhoods safer, not by arresting more people, but by the reduction of crime. Even though I believe policing in Ontario is good, there can obviously be changes or enhancements in order to be more effective. First off, Ontario needs to recognize aboriginal policing as a fully fledged police force. Not only are they more effective than regular police, they are also the preferred policing amongst the aboriginal people themselves. One of the most important aspects the police have to work on is community support and trust. They need to reach out and communicate with the communities. I say this because I believe the reputation of officers is tarnished, especially amongst any persons in priority neighbourhoods under the age of 30. I interviewed approximately 15 people of all different races, ages (under 30), and nationalities. Remarkably, not a single person ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ohio, 495 U.S. 103 (1990), is a Supreme Court of the United States case in which the Court held that the First Amendment allows states to outlaw the mere possession, as distinct from the distribution, of child pornography. After Ohio police found photographs in petitioner Osborne s home, each of which depicted a nude male adolescent posed in sexually explicit position, he was convicted of violating a state statute prohibiting any person from possessing or viewing any material or performance showing a minor who is not his child or ward in a state of nudity unless the material or performance is presented for a ... Given the importance of the State s interest in protecting the victims of child pornography, we cannot fault Ohio for attempting to stamp out this vice at all levels in the distribution chain. Even if the First Amendment did not categorically forbid the government to ban the possession of child pornography, Osborne argued that the Ohio statute under which he was convicted was overbroad. A ban on speech is overbroad if it outlaws both prohibited speech as well as a substantial amount of legitimate speech. The statute, as written, banned depictions of nudity, and the Court had previously held that nudity was protected expression. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Crime Statistics During this essay, I will be discussing recorded crime statistics and victimisation surveys as they are our primary techniques of measuring levels and trends of crime. After briefly explaining what is meant by these terms, I will seek to evaluate their strengths and weaknesses in order to question the extent to which they are reliable resources that provide us with accurate information. Firstly, recorded crime statistics are collated through the collection of data by law enforcement agencies, such as the police in England and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in America. It focuses on the crime that is reported by the public and then what is chosen to be recorded by the police. During the mid late 19th century, these statistics formed the basis of information about crime, however, although they still provide raw data for publications such as the Offenders Index, they are now viewed critically. This is because, according to Mayhew and Hough (1988), the recorded crime statistics are adequate as a measure of police workload, but because of unreported and unrecorded crime deficient as an index of crime . Secondly, the Home Office funded a national victimisation survey which was originally known as the British Crime Survey, with the purpose of interviewing a representative sample of the population about their experiences of crime and victimisation in the last 12 months. Originally, the right for citizens to freely acquire, use, and dispose of property was protected by common law, state law and the constitution. However, as the nation grew and this concept became more complex, property rights have been severely compromised. For instance, there is much disagreement on what the right to privacy concept within the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution actually protects. Originally, the Court tended to view the right to privacy as place orientated and property based (739). This narrow range of protections was understandable but was limited primarily to criminal procedure, specifically the protections against search and seizures. For example, the courts repeatedly use the proverb A man s home is his castle , however, this concept is explicitly place orientated and property based. They then wanted to go into the Italies and destroy the rebellions and in addition to nullify the constitutions. They could reestablish the rulers once more into power and general Italy had no real way to bring on Austria alone with such weak powers. There was obvious disruption inside the procedure of the transformation. Nonetheless, the absence of such solidarity that was seen inside the unrest was not by any stretch of the imagination thought about of the pioneers at the time which at last cost them an extraordinary measure of what they were battling ... It adds freshness, finesse, and aromatic complexity as well as hints of raspberry and violet. It provides the wines with the necessary acidity as well as minerality, aromatic freshness, and varietal aromas, such as citrus, boxwood, and fig leaves. White Grapes SEMILLON Sémillon is the main grape variety for semi sweet and sweet white wines and is almost always a component of dry white wines as well. It contributes roundness, richness, and apricot and honey aromas. When affected by «noble rot», it develops an inimitable bouquet. Thus it is a place rife with diseases and other problems that afflict vines, compared with many of the world s other wine regions, such as dry Chile or Australia. • 31. Glomerulonephritis Essay Glomerulonephritis (GN), or the inflammation of glomeruli, is a leading cause of renal failure worldwide. Inflammation is characterized by vascular fragility, infiltration of leukocytes, and edema. Glomerular disease may manifest by three major syndromes: nephritic syndrome, nephrotic syndrome, and rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis (RPGN). Nephritic syndrome consists of sudden onset of hematuria, non nephrotic range proteinuria (1.5 g/24 h), active sediment with red blood cell (RBC) casts or dysmorphic RBCs, acute renal failure, and hypertension. Nephrotic syndrome is characterized by heavy proteinuria ( 3.5 g/24 h), edema, hypoalbuminemia, and hyperlipidemia. RPGN is characterized by active sediment (RBC casts and dysmorphic RBCs) and rapid development of acute renal failure usually over a period of weeks to months. Glomerulonephritis accounts for the majority of progressive renal disease in many parts of the world. ETIOLOGY Glomerulonephritis has diverse etiologies related to disorders of the immune system, including abnormal immunoglobulin and complement regulation. Glomerulonephritis is caused by immune processes that lead to deposition of antibodies and complement within the glomerulus. This results in injury to intrinsic glomerular cells, infiltration of leukocytes and damage to the capillary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Space Administration ( Nasa ) And Kennedy Space Center My main interest in writing a research paper about space sparked from the retirement of the Space Shuttle, in which thousands of workers lost their jobs and other individuals where forced to move away to different locations across the United States to find work. I will be focusing on the obstacles that National Aeronautic Space Administration (NASA) and Kennedy Space Center are presented with from the view points of many different angles. I have discovered many interesting facts and sources regarding my topic and realize that there is still so much to be learned. My search begins with an article concerning the budget situation out at Kennedy Space Center. The first article of the budget confliction can be seen in the News of the Week: ... During the operational years from 1982 to 2010, the average cost per launch was about $1.2 billion. Over the life of the programme, this increases to about $1.5 billion per launch (p. 38). This source brought a new perspective into my thought process about how costly the space programs can be. The authors of the article presented the information though graphs as well, which I intend to include in my final research paper. This source also had me eager to look up how much the National Government has funded NASA over the past years. Researching the topic of NASA s budget presented alarming evidence about the shrinking government funding that the agency receives. According to NASA Budget , published in 2012, the following monetary amounts show the decrease in the amount of funding the National Government is providing NASA $553.8 million in fiscal 1995, $155.5 million in fiscal 1996, $131.7 million in fiscal 1997, $61 million in fiscal 1998, $51.3 million in fiscal 2000, $10.8 million in fiscal 2004 . According to Rousseau, in the state of nature people have complete physical freedom and are at liberty to do whatever they want (Editors). The state of nature for Rousseau is where human beings have not discovered rationality or morality (Editors). The state of nature keeps us from turning psychopathic as opposed to society who Rousseau says is to blame for our behavior and short comings. In general, Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau all agree the only thing that is important to a man other than self preservation is his immediate needs, so luxuries are not seen as vital in his opinion. Rousseau compares a savage looks to that of a wild animal, the difference being a man s free will and the ability of self improvement (Giampietri). Still self improvement can either bring progress or misfortune to mankind. In Rousseau s opinion the goodness in the state of nature is polluted thanks to civilization and progress leaving us no chance to go back to that state. However, Rousseau s aspect on mortality in the state of nature is there is no room for law, right and mortality (Giampietri). Their images of modernity challenged traditional codes and conventions of France s past and represented different and new ideas of the French individual. Her focus on leisure as well as individual freedom, represented another key aspect of French modernity in its mirroring of capitalist and Western ideology. This behaviour could be seen in her private life and film roles, as she smoked, drunk and strolled the streets of urban environments, while going to street bars, cafes, casinos. Just like like the modern female Moreau showed a boredom with traditional bourgeois life and her role as an urban woman, was a departure of typical conceptions of French femininity, that kept the woman in the domesticated sphere. This urban femininity can be seen in many of her film roles, such as the 1957 Louis Malle directed film Ascenseur Pour l Échafaud (Elevators to the Gallows). The film captures her freedom to wander and traverse the environment through its use of tracking shots that trace her movement and emphasise her belonging and control over the space. Moreau s modernity must also be considered through her significant role as an actor of the New Wave. In many ways Jeanne Moreau became a personification of the New Wave style in her star persona, and this shaped her image of femininity. Single Subject Evaluation The author used an ABAB design with the client. The ABAB design represents an effort to measure a baseline, a treatment measurement, the withdrawal of treatment, and the re introduction of treatment. The author chose the design because it involves two parts including gathering of baseline information, the application of a treatment and measurement of the effects of the treatment; and of what happens when the treatment is removed and then again applying the treatment and measuring the change. With the amount of time allowed, the ABAB design worked best. Measurement Tool The Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale (RSS) was used to measure the clients level of self esteem.
