Adlerian Theory In The Movie Antwone Fisher
Upon watching the movie Antwone Fisher, I found that Psychodynamic theory and Adlerian theory
would serve well to treating the movie s main character, Antwone. Antwone is an African American
man who struggles with his emotionally unstable life. He joined the Navy after leaving Cleveland,
but was plagued with anger and temperament issues which stem from his childhood. These issues,
upon watching further into the movie, are associated with the emotional and physical abuse that
was inflicted upon him via varying authoritarian figures from his foster family. These childhood
issues have since caused Antwone to struggle finding a self image and identity that he can call his
very own.
Psychodynamic theory revolves around the perspective to attempt and gain an intuitive
understanding of what transpires in the mind of an individual and how these thoughts ultimately
drive the individual in an outward sense. Counselors who use this theory help the client to look
into their personal relationships, the experiences due to their worldviews, and how their
preferences affect their behaviors and personality. Antwone, upon being placed into therapy
sessions was angry and clearly thought the course of action was a waste of time. To begin the
process of conceptualizing Antwone s problems, a psychodynamic counselor might ask about the
relationships Antwone had as a child. Davenport, in the movie, asks Antwone where he is from
with Antwone s response being Under a rock. In the last of the three mandatory sessions, Antwone,
once he begins to open up to Davenport, discloses that his father was shot to death a couple of
months before he was born and his mother was in prison and had to give him up due to the
circumstances. Antwone was then placed in a foster home with two other children, one older and
one younger the older brother is half Caucasian and half African American. Upon first disclosure,
Antwone mentions that his foster mother would beat him and his other African American brother.
When talking about his relationships with his foster family, Antwone eventually discusses how his
foster mother s cousin, Nadine, raped him when he was just six years old.
A counselor, such as Davenport, can parallel Antwone s past

Positive And Negative Effects Of Artificial Lighting
According to (International Dark SkyAssociation, 2016) Most of us are familiar with air, water,
and land pollution, but did you know that light can be a pollutant ? Most people think that light
pollution is misdirected light into the sky that affects our view of the sky, but light pollution is the
result of overly used, misused, or misdirected artificial lightingin the sky, on the ground, in certain
areas within our environment, and within in our homes. Although artificial lighting has provided a
way for us humans to feel safe outside after dark, see at night, attend sporting events, and advertise
for our businesses artificial lighting has negative affects to. There is an ongoing debate among
society about the positive and negative effects of overuse of artificial lighting. Artificial lighting is
becoming a major concern because it affects human s health, animals, and our environment.
According to (International Dark SkyAssociation, 2016) Light pollution affects every citizen .
Artificial lighting negatively affect s human s health. Being exposed to bright light can affect our
sleeping pattern. The more we are exposed to bright light our melatonin decreases making it hard
for us to get to sleep and being on a routine sleeping schedule. When we are exposed to light and
not darkness and our melatonin decreases putting us at risk for many health complications.

Analysis Of Why Millennials CanT Grow Up
The Millennial Generation is earning 20 percent less than the Generation X and the Baby Boomers.
Psychotherapist at NYU (according to the university s website), Brooke Donatone argues in her
article, Why Millennials Can t Grow Up that millennials experience extended adolescence that
delays adulthood (Donatone 1). The author believes that the reasons for that happening are parents
by their helicopter parenting and the economy because there are less high paying jobs that allow
millennials to be financially independent. Throughout the article, Donatone explains that there is
evidence on how it is not millennials fault that they are experiencing delayed adulthood. Therefore,
it is safe to assume that her intended audience are the parents... Show more content on

His article also contrasts Donatone s second flaw of unprofessional tone because he
continuously stays professional and mindful of his audience that comes from world of business
professionals. Donatone proposes that the reason for millennials struggles with adulthood, like
working, dealing with people or even doing laundry is caused by helicopter parenting; however,
she uses Amy, a girl that comes from a family with moderate wealth, to wrongly generalize that
all millennials come from similar background. It is especially inappropriate and unfair to
generalize about this topic because she talks about such a big and diverse group that is
millennial generation, and not everyone comes from the same background. Donatone shows that
Amy comes from middle class family when she says She finally had to dump the part time job,
was still unable to do laundry, and often stayed up until 2 a.m. to complete her homework because
she didn t know how to manage her time without her parents ... (Donatone 1). In order for
someone to be able to drop their job they need someone that can help with their financial needs and
wants, therefore it is safe to assume that Amy comes from a family with moderate wealth that is
able to support those needs and wants. The author s moment when she generalizes that all
millennials are like Amy and come from similar background is when she states It s easy to
generalize an entire population by its

Extracurricular Activities And Children With Intellectual...
In the article entitled Extracurricular activities and the development of social skills in children
with intellectual and specific learning disabilities the authors begin to explain why children with
intellectual and specific learning disabilities social skills are absent. According to Brooks, Floyd,
Robins, and Chan, participation in social activities is positively related to children s social
adjustment, but little is known about the benefits of activity participation for children with
intellectual and specific disabilities (2015, p. 678). Children typically become aware of how to

680). The Second hypothesis states that given their greater need for improving social
competence, we predicted that participation in out of school activities would have a greater
impact on predicting social competence for children with intellectual disability or a specific
learning disability than for an age matched typically developing comparison group (Brooks,
Floyd, Robins, and Chan, 2015, p. 680). Families living in the southeastern USA in rural and
urban communities were taken from public schools for testing. The sample consisted of 117
students, 75 boys and 42 girls, between the ages of eight and eleven years old. The mean age of
the sample was 9.44 and the standard deviation was 1.05. The students were categorized into three
different groups, the learning disability, intellectual disability, and the typically developing
students. The learning disability group contains 53 students who are enrolled in services for
specific learning disability and school Individual Education Programs. The intellectual disability
group contained 40 students who s IQ scores were between 40 and 70. The typically developing
group consisted of 24 students who show no signs of intellectual disability, psycho emotional
disorder, specific learning disabilities or physical disorder. Children with siblings who have

Summary Of Ode On Melancholy
In John Keats Ode on Melancholy, he writes on the relationship of the self and how one deals with
Melancholy. There have been many different authors that have written about the topic of
experiencing melancholy. Generally, writers talk about melancholy as a problem and wanting to
escape it, or they discuss how one can remedy it. However, Keats takes a different approach and
discusses an alternative way of looking at melancholy. On the surface, the poem talks about ways
that one should not escape it, how one should deal with it, and ends with a conclusion on
melancholy. The poem, when analyzed closer, shifts to a different meaning. Through Keats use of
word choice, symbolism, and form, he discusses the relationship between appreciation... Show more

(474). Then, he begins to offer solutions to dealing with melancholy. He repeatedly uses the
words like glut, feed, and imagery of food when describing how to deal with this sadness (474).
This repetition of imagery suggests that one should continue to feed this melancholy spirit,
rather than escape it whatsoever so that it is experienced as much as possible. He also continues
to use imagery of heaven or at least transcendence in some sort of way, by referencing heaven
repeatedly. He also suggests a relationship between transcendence and melancholy in the
sentence, Ay, in the very temple of Delight / Veil d Melancholy has her Sovran shrine (474).
Therefore, this creates an undertone that melancholy is related to something that is heavenly,
which will be explored later on. Throughout the poem, Keats uses symbolism to create polarities
such as death and life, experience and escape that shifts the poem s meaning to a philosophical
thought process. The beginning stanza makes numerous references to death, but also to life as
well. For instance, Keats references Proserpine, who was the goddess of the underworld, but also
came to earth for half of the year so that she could be with her mother, Ceres, who was the goddess
of the harvest (474, 170). Therefore, this immediately creates a polarity between spending half her

CBA Situation Analysis
To prevent further disruptions of league and staff operations, the recommendation for bi annual
meetings between the NFL and the player s union should be considered. This would provide both
sides a reasonable outlook period in which to improve the conditions of business. This time could
be used by the parties to undergo voluntary mediation for the union s members to come to a mutual
agreement into what the playerswant and feel they need. The main purpose of this suggestion
would be to alleviate the threat of strikes and lockouts due to expired CBA contracts.
The next thing that could have been done differently is allowing for amendments to be placed into
order in circumstances such as the replacement players in 1987 or the 132 day lockout

The Evolution Of Tetra Pods
It is often debated which species share common ancestors, in particular, how closely related
amphibians, mammals and osteichthyes are. The evolution of tetra pods, or four legged animals,
from aquatic animals such as fish can be traced back 365 million years ago to the Devonian, 408
360, mya, and evidence shows that this evolution was divergent in nature (Freeman, S. 2011; Myer,
A and Zardoya, R. 2004). Divergent evolution, also sometimes termed adaptive radiation, occurs
over many geological times and gives rise to a number of new species that all occupy different
habitats and show characteristics that assist in survival and reproduction under their natural
selection pressures (Kinear, J.F. 2000). Variations in these essential survival

2011). Different organisms can evolve in similar ways even if they are not similar by descent
from a common ancestor and this is known as homoplasy (Hawks, J. 2005). Classification of
animals is an important field of biology, as new knowledge about genetics, anatomy and
evolutionary relationships often leads to new thoughts on how different groups of organisms are
related. In the biological systems of classification, all organisms are divided and classed into
increasingly specific groups, starting with the kingdom, and finally being classed down to their
genus and species (Huxley, L; Watter, M. 2005). Animals are either vertebrates or invertebrates, and
this determines what phyla they belong to. All vertebrates, for example are all classed under the
chordate phylum, meaning that they all evolved from an ancestor that had a notochord along the
back (dorsal) side. Mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians and birds are all chordates. Studies on
vertebrates have revealed that progressive evolutionary adaptations, such as improved respiration,
efficient reproduction and paired muscular appendages enabled the vertebrates to survive in a wider
range of habitats and on land. The development of the earliest vertebrates and the transition from

Relationship Between Indentured Servants And Slaves
The typical colonial planter s views were inconsistent due to the exploited non white races within
the vast majority of indentured servants and the economic manipulation of the British government.
Indentured servants and slaves were overworked by their masters because exploitive colonial
planters and plantation owners pushed them to the degree that they eventually died at a very early.
When indentured non white servants migrated to Virginia in the seventeenth century, they were
immediately put to work because masters sought to gain wealth as soon as possible and lead forty
percent of these servants to die before their four year term was finished (Jovanovich, 1984).
Inhumane exploitation within plantations were regularly colonial planters pushing

Essay about Guide to Becoming a Jerk
Guide to Becoming a Jerk
Being a jerk can be fun. It gives you a feeling of dominance over others; you are more important
then the rest. You are the wolf among a flock of sheep; people fear you, and therefore look up to
you. Being a jerk is not hard; all you have to do is think about yourself and your own feelings, and
forget that everyone else has emotions. There are various ways of achieving this perception of
importance; you can put people down and belittle them, pretend you re better than everyone, or just
be plain mean, unpolite, and nasty. Sure, there might be some little voice inside saying that you are
no better than anyone else is, but you can drown out that nagging reminder with constant insults to
others. Nothing replaces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This will make the other person feel insecure and reluctant to talk to you; the people around you
will either think your comments are funny (they aspire to be a jerk like you), or they will
consider you rude and disgraceful. It doesn t really matter what anyone else thinks though, does
it? You are yourself and no one else; you feel only your feelings and no one else s; so why should
you be concerned with anyone but yourself? You are king in your own mind, and your perception is
everything.
If you can t be bothered to be a witty, sarcastic jerk, you can just be a regular, mean jerk. This
kind of jerk is intolerant and impatient (to a higher degree than the other type of jerk), rude, and
unsarcastically mean. The next time someone gives you something or does something for you,
don t say thank you or show gratitude; you should even go so far as to complain about what they
gave you or how they should accomplish things faster. Don t be grateful; if you are grateful,
people will think that they can win your favor with good deeds; that s manipulation. You can t let
anyone win your favor; that would show weakness, and you have to be strong to show that you
are of great importance. Be disrespectful to everyone, and elders and authority figures especially.
Respect can also be linked to weakness, since respecting someone can be taken

The Second Most Important Man Towards Christianity
Question:
Analyse the contribution that Paul of Tarsus had on the development and expression of Christianity.
Paul of Tarsus or Saint Paul is considered by many Christians today to be the most important
disciple of Jesus, and beside this the second important found in the development of Christianity.
Saint Paul had a major impact on the spread of Christianity, contributing to the underlying unity of
the religious tradition by helping expand Jesus original teachings into a developed integrated belief
system.

He became an advocate for the inclusion of the Gentiles among the true followers of Christianity.
Until Paul s challenge, Jewish Christians believed that non Jews had to convert to Judaism and
follow the law, which included restrictions and circumcision. Gentiles who worship in the
synagogue but did not become proselytes were called god fearers and were only second class
citizens in the synagogue. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki
/Circumcision_controversy_in_early_Christianity)
As the Gentiles did not follow kashruth, many Christian Jews refused to eat with Christian
Gentiles, believing them to be unclean and not acceptable. This had implications for church
fellowship and for the ritual celebration of the Lord s Supper. Paul challenged this belief,
(Galatians 2: 11 14) most strongly at the Council of Jerusalem in 50 CE. This lead to the decision
by the early Christian leaders to enable Gentiles as well as Jews to be followers of Jesus of
Nazareth and to call themselves Christians.
Permitting freedom from the laws of kashruth and circumcision allowed Christianity to spread more
freely amongst the Gentiles and is why Paul is so significant today. (Christianity vs. Judaism
worksheet).
Paul s writings on social issues were just as influential on the life and beliefs of the Christian
culture, and are still considered part and parcel of the broader Christian doctrine by the more
conservative Christians.

Biblical Heroism In Treasure Island By Robert Louis Stevenson
Noah. Moses. Joshua. Esther. What might all these people share in common? All were heroes in
light of the biblical understanding of the term, heroism. Matthew 20:28 states, Just as the Son of
Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many (NIV). This
verse embodies one of the components of a true heros character. The biblical heroes mentioned
above were humble, led others by serving, counted others needs more significant than their own,
and obeyed God s call for their lives. Of course, they were sinners and still stumbled and fell, but
their lives demonstrate true biblical heroism in their strivings to honor God and serve others.
Noah obeyed God s command to build an ark and rescued his family and the animals from the
Flood. Moses led the grumbling people of Israel out of Egypt and into the desert after continually
pleading with Pharaoh to let them go leave Egypt. Joshua listened to God s instruction and led the
Israelites around Jericho s walls until they came tumbling down. Uninvited, Esther came into King
Nebuchadnezzar s presence, asking him and Haman to dinner where she would eventually expose
Haman s evil plans and save the Jews. In Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, the main
characters, Long John Silverand Jim Hawkins, do not measure up in comparison to this biblical
standard of heroism. Therefore, neither Silver nor Jim are heroes in the biblical light of heroism.

The Problem of Child Labor Essay
Please, sir, replied Oliver, I want some more. No one will ever forget the simple plea made by
the poor hungry little orphan named Oliver Twist. Nobody will be able to omit from his mind the
painful blows that Oliver suffered. Nor will anyone cease to recall what it felt like to be young
and helpless in a much bigger and stronger world. In an effort to bring the ostracized poverty
situation of so many children to the public s attention, Charles Dickens wrote an unforgettable book
to touch the hearts of millions. Whether he knew it then or not, he was also bringing a new
connotation and worldwide innuendo to the term child labor.

Not true. Though our intentions mean well, we cannot lose our head every time a story involving
a helpless child in an uncaring society reaches the news. We must not, in our naiveness and absence
of the facts, be brainwashed to believe that ending child labor will solve anything. For what Greene
forgets to include in her definition is the one element that makes the problem impossible to deal
with. For some children, child labor, with all its abuses and exploitations, is all that stands
between life and death. As much as the world s public is now aware of all the corruption behind
the productivity of big international corporations, we must also come to realize the other side of
the argument. The prohibition of child labor in its entirety is not the solution. It is neither possible
nor probable. As long as poverty exists, children will work to stay alive. The complete and utter
abolishment of child labor by more developed countries may hurt the poverty stricken children of
less developed countries more than if absolutely nothing was done.

The Theme Of Death In Slaughterhouse Five And Death
Slaughterhouse Five and Death There s a recurring theme throughout Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt
Vonnegut which permeates throughout the story from beginning to end. It s the idea that death is
just that. Death. One can argue that Vonnegut attempts to desensitize death through the Billy
Pilgrim and the Sci Fi story of the Tralfamadorians, but what if he is instead using these examples
in order to justify the exact opposite idea? By planting us into Billy Pilgrim s surreal and insane
story filled with destruction and soulless human action, it may on surface seem as if he is regarding
death as a meaningless construct, but what if he is instead trying to tell us that death should
actually be something regarded as monumental and crucial to the... Show more content on

The simple phrase seems to follow concepts related to death throughout the first half of the
novel, and the melancholic and casual tone of the phrase parallel with the idea that death is
something to gloss over and not emphasize with. This idea by nature is comforting. It allows
anybody to ignore deaths and view them as unimportant. This comforting way of thinking
simultaneously places the reader into the psyche of Billy Pilgrim and his mentality. The phrase
is repeated over a hundred times, and the repetitive nature of it being stated brings the reader
into the same mindset by sheer repetition. Interestingly enough, the phrase is also very rarely
placed alongside completely unrelated ideas. When Billy Pilgrim uncorked a bottle of
champagne on the kitchen table, It didn t make a pop. The champagne was dead. So it goes (70).
After nearly all of the prior utilization of the phrase so it goes is used to accompany death,
Vonnegut places it next to a moment which is anything but related to it. This shatters the
consistency of the quote and in a way, compares death to any small disappointing moment in a
life. The phrase resonates even more because now, it compares death to something like
overcooking a steak or dropping a cell phone. Doing this is, of course, comfortable. Over the
course of the novel, the reader becomes Billy Pilgrim, and adapts his fatalistic way of thinking.

The Crucible By Mary Warren
Power is the force that, during the Salem Witch Trials, condemned innocent individuals to be
hanged on the sole basis of spectral evidence. Power is what blinds people and deceives them; it
makes people believe they are in control, when in reality they are only fooling themselves. The
character in The Crucible that knows best just how easily power can entice and energize
someone with its false sense of fulfillment, just to leave them stripped of their conscience with
nothing left to show for their actions but regret, is Mary Warren. The first instance where Mary
Warren struggles with the giddy, detrimental fulfillment that power provides, is when she
becomes one of the prosecutors in the court. During these court sessions, she, along with other
young girls, pretend to faint and turn cold in the presence of accused witches. Many of the other
girls have ulterior motives for pretending that they are being bewitched. Abigail s motive is
wanting to eliminate Elizabeth by condemning her to death so she can finally be with her
adulterous lover John Proctor. However, Mary Warren does not have an ulterior motive for
participating in these trials and does so for no reason other than the fact that she is drunk with
power. She realizes she holds the fates of these benevolent souls in her hands, and with one trifling
shiver and perhaps a brief fainting spell, she can ruin these people s lives by making them choose
to either taint their soul by turning against their own religion or give

Thanks in great part to its green image British company Body Shop has prospered in the 80s. In

After one of Anita Roddick s earliest visits, she announced that Body Shop would extend the

In the meantime, Body Shop began heavily promoting its links to the Kayapo. It announced what
it called the first ever intellectual property rights agreement. However, the Kayapo had agreed to

intellectual property rights agreement with the Kayapo. The chiefs were stunned and frustrated
when it became clear that Body Shop was trying to get the chiefs to legitimize the agreement, which
still had not been negotiated.

gods and the like.Similar to Oedious and the King, excessive pride is a major part in Antigone. In
the plays pride [excessive pride] is abhorred.A person with hubris is severly punished by the gods.
Here in Antigone, the man with hubris believes himself, his laws and men to be supperior to the
gods it is the paramount display of pride/hubris and it needs to be severely punished.Sophocles
affirms that no man can equal or be superior to the gods, devine right and the laws of the gods.
The excessive pride and stubborness, later tyranny results in destruction and suffering. In Antigone
,Ceron and Antigone have the same Hamarita [erroer, flaws] and that is their stubborn
nature.Antigone is stubborn with her loyality and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

While, reading the play,it had seemed to me that Sophocles had written Ceron for a number of
things/actions to carry out.Mostly as a warning on pride and tyranny.Ceron defyies the gods [his
decrees that Polynices,as he is a traitor will not be give a burial and whomever burries him will be
sentenced to death.].Him stubbornly refusing to reason, claiming that the gods do not honour
criminals .Here,Ceron is prideful and stubborn not realizing that he is crossing the line as a criminal
and tyrant by not following the rules/laws set by the gods.
Ceron has too much pride leading him to believe that he is above women this is noted when
Antigone defies him breaks the law, goes against him and the like.Ceron also believes himself and
his laws above the gods and their laws.Throughout the story we see Ceron reject everything and

How Does Greene Present Fowler s Relationship In The Quiet...
In his allegorical novel The Quiet American , centered during the conflicts of the First Indo
China War, author Graham Greene aims to portray the majority of relationships as being driven
by selfish desires. Greene develops this motif through the eyes of protagonist Thomas Fowler,
whose initial indifferent cynicism towards the war enhances the idea that personal gain and
individual desires are the powering force behind the story s relationships. This egocentricity
prevailing within the friendship of characters Thomas Fowler and Alden Pyle, as well as Fowler
s affair with Vietnam, serves to further explore Greene s idea that personal gain plays a bigger role
than affection in any relationship. This idea is reinforced by both Fowler and Pyle s insensitive
pursuit and objectification of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This idea is explored through Fowler s eventual forsakenness of indifference, which is catalysed
his witnessing of the tragic Garnier Square explosion caused by Pyle. Fowler is finally able to
accept this movement to becoming engagГ© when he tells Pyle There s always a point of

repressed emotion when his thoughts instantly turned to Phuong s safety at the moment of the
blast, especially when his love of Phuong made him thoughtless his personal safety, represented
when he states [the policeman] might shoot; I didn t care . Fowler s closing line how I wished
there existed someone to whom I could say that I was sorry conclusively shows he has abandoned
his previous state of detachment, and when he apologetically tells Phuong There was so much you

How Wireless Communication Has Improved The Point Of Being...
Wireless communication is the transfer of data between two or more points that are not connected
by an electrical conductor. In addition, wireless communications networks are less expensive to
install and preserve than equivalent wired systems. Wireless communication has become possible
due to the discovery of radio waves. With the first breakthrough of the radio signal within the 19th
century, along with founders Nikola Tesla and Guglielmo Marconi, evolution of the wireless
technology has improved to the point of being unrecognizable (Makkai ,2006, p.1). According to
Rappaport (2002 ,p.1) , with the Guglielmo Marconi s invention of the long distance
communication with ships at sea, has the power of instant communication emerged. Nowadays,
many people use the internet service on a cellphone to keep the contact with people around the
world, and for other purposes such as: researching, learning and exploring (Makkai ,2006, p.1).
In this essay, the following definitions will be used. Communication in this essay refers to a
technology that allows sending and receiving data such as: SMS, voice and images (Lee,
Schneider and Schell,2004, p.15). A mobile app is a software application developed specifically for
use on small, wireless computing devices, such as smartphones and tablets, rather than desktop or
laptop computers. Ram (Random Access Memory) arranges communication through messages to a
customer while they are in the city territory (Rappaport, 2002, p.508).

The Scientific Management Principles Of Frederick Winslow...
There has been tremendous development of organizations and corporations in the past two
centuries, which has resulted in academic as well as practical development of concepts related to
organizational behaviour, revolutionizing the current landscape. From the studies conducted by
Adam Smith in the 18th century to Peter Ferdinand Drucker in the 21st century a range of ideas
and concepts have originated with respect to organizational behaviour and associated practices.
While Adam Smith s contribution was in the area of division of labour, which even though
proposed as early as the 18th century is still finding relevance in modern day organizations. The
scientific management principles of Frederick Winslow Taylor can be considered to be the modern
proponent of organizational behaviour by concentrating on maximizing benefits to the staff,
managers and society through a system of supervision, uniformity and standardization. These
earliest theoretical concepts, particularly the one by Taylor and Webber s ideas related to
bureaucracy are considered as the foundations for Modernist thought process. Under the Modernist
perspective, the three main organizational theories are system theory, technical systems theory and
contingency theories. In post modernism a replacement of superstitions reasoned based on
Enlightenment is the consideration (Hatch and Cunliff 2012). Within the symbolic perspective the
concepts related to social construction and enactment can be found. According to

The Malagan s are a particularly peaceful society because their authority figures are women, and
women tend to be less aggressive rulers. (Miller 2014) Although Malagana has their own

First off, they Malagan people are tremendously peaceful. Within the society, there is barely any
crime. Law enforcement is provided my Madagascar, and they rarely have to do work. If the
Malagan s were to be introduced to a weaker society, they would immediately attempt to form an
alliance. The Malagan s would not try to assimilate the society, or get rid of them through

History of Internet
Before the the Internet was created, linking the world, human beings were already thinking with
a connected mind. While messages obviously were unable to be transferred electronically,
humans invented different ways to trade information and news with other people. Firstly was
the post. In order to send a friend a message, a letter would have had to been written and mailed.
Mailing messages was a long process, often taking days to get one message to another person.
This method (still used today) was not the most convenient because there is no urgency or speed
in mailing a letter. Luckily in the mid 1800 s the telegraph was invented. Sent for the first time in
1838, the telegraph was the first instance of sending a message (4). A telegraph is defined as the
transmission of textual or symbolic messages without the physical exchange of an object. This is
the first instance of a message being sent in a virtual sense (2). While messages could be delivered
through the mail within a matter of days, a telegraph could be transmitted live. At the time this was
quite a feat. When studying the creation of the internet, it is important to remember that not one
single man directly created the web that we know today. Rather, many brilliant minds, over time,
added and refined the experience for the greater good. Originally, the earliest version of the internet
was constructed as a tool for US warfare. The United States

Brief History of the Domestication of Cats and Dogs
You can find at least one cat or dog in almost every home in America. In fact, approximately 67
million households have pets and there are 164 million owned pets in the U.S. (U.S. Pet
Ownership). But, do we know where our beloved pets came from? Many know that the dog
descended from wolves and the cat descended from some larger wild catbut it is a little more
complicated than that.
So just what country did cats originate from? Researchers found that cats have been involved with
humans for about 4,000 years. They also found a feline that roamed Eurasia and Africa more than
34 million years ago! That s a long time! This early cat weighed about twenty pounds and was the
size of the bobcats we see today. It was called the Proailurus, which means early cat (Cat History).
The NC Museum of Natural Scientists states that cats came to North America with Colonial settlers
in the 1700 s. Humans have helped spread them throughout the world by keeping them as
companions (Pushy Plants).
Unlike dogs, cats are said to have domesticated themselves. When humans started settling North
America and farming land, cats came in and protected the crops from rodents. The humans saw
that they were good so they fed and protected the cats (Carver). The humans also began to store
crops, such as grain, and with storage, came rats. The cats were delighted by the great amounts of
prey and the people appreciated cats even more (Zax).
The earliest breed of cats in Europe was the Angora. Scientists

Essay about Root Surface Caries
Root Surface Caries
Caries can affect any surface of the teeth. The most commonly seen caries are found on the crown
of a tooth, above the cemento enamel junction, it is also possible for caries to form on the root
surface, below the cemento enamel junction. Dental root caries has received a great deal of
attention in the past few decades. A variety of different patients are at risk for root surface caries.
Dentists use several methods of treatment.
Root surface caries are also called cemental caries, cervical caries, or radicular caries. (Wilkins)
Root surface caries only involves the roots of teeth. The cementum and dentin located just below
the crown of the tooth is involved. No involvement of enamel is seen with root surface caries. ...

This process is enhanced with the presence of gingival recession.(Hammel)
Clinically, root caries appears as a soft, irregularly shaped lesion, either totally confined to the
root surface or also involving the enamel at the cemento enamel junction. (Flaitz) It is more
easily detected on exposed root surfaces. It has been found that 10% to 20% of root caries lesions
are found subgingivally, especially at the interproximal region. The most common locations also
include exposed roots of the mandibular premolar and molar areas. On a dental radiograph, root
surface caries appears as a cupped out or crater shaped radiolucency just below the cemento enamel
junction. Early lesions may be difficult to detect on a dental radiograph.(Hassan)
Clinical description is very subjective and is based on color, texture, surface smoothness, depth
of the lesion, and distinctiveness of its border. Root caries can be classified as active or inactive.
Active lesions are leathery or soft, and inactive or arrested lesions are hard upon touch with an
explorer. Root caries can vary in color from black or dark brown to yellowish or light
brown.(Wilkins)
Measures that can be taken to prevent root surface caries are just as one would perform to prevent
coronal caries. Oral hygiene is most important. Brush your teeth at least twice a day, preferably
after each meal. Floss your teeth regularly to remove food particles between your teeth that cannot
be removed by ordinary brushing. Because you

colonies and Great Britain was turning sour. Henry has previous experiences with Britain have
lead him to believing that a war is the best decision. Patrick Henry stood before the colonists of
Virginia, and gave them a compelling speech of why their relations with Englandhas to change.
Patrick Henry gave a homely called Speech to the Virginia Convention , in which he utilized
persuasive tone and allusion to relay his views of Great Britain to the colonists of Virginia.
Henry s persuasive tone advises his fellow colonists to rebel against England in order to gain
their freedom. In the opening of his speech, he claims, No man thinks more highly than I do of
the patriotism, as well as abilities, of the very worthy gentlemen who have just addressed the
House (Henry 1). Henry treats his fellow congressmen with respect in order to gain credibility
and trust, in order to be more persuasive to the audience. Patrick Henry s approach is peaceful, as
he is avoiding aggressiveness. Which, gains the trust and respect of his peers. This persuades the
colonists to take Henry seriously, because and gives them the sense that he is not belittling them.
He makes a point of this by saying, As well as

Substance Abuse And Social Media Analysis
Moreover, parents and siblings play an important role in the lives of adolescents; they see their
parents and older siblings as role models and imitate their habits and behaviors. The National
Institute on Drugs Abuse (2014) states that the family environment is also important: Violence,
physical or emotional abuse, mental illness, or drug use in the household increase the likelihood an
adolescent will use drugs . These stressors can lead teens to engage in illicit activities such as
substance abuse. Psychological abuse and physical violence increase the need for drinking and
smoking because they want to forget and avoid internal and external problems. Parents may

A German Requiem, Op. 45 By Johannes Brahms
The Choral Union performed A German Requiem, Op. 45 by Johannes Brahms. This was my
second choral concert and I came out of it with a deeper respect for choral music. It was
impressive how powerful, resonant, loud and beautiful they could sing and even project to the
last row where I was. The dynamic range the chorus could produce was similar to that of a
marching band, extremely quiet with a solo or a mind blowing fortissimo with the hundreds of
singers. Originally this piece was played with Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass with soprano and
baritone soli backed by the full orchestraand sung in German. This transcription however was
translated into English, backed by two pianists and used solos instead of soli s. What I found

Essay about Feminism and Changing Perceptions of Motherhood
Societal perceptions of motherhood in North America have changed drastically over the last century
and continue to change. Due to prescribed traditional gender roles, the concept of motherhood has
historically been latent in the concept womanhood, in that a woman s ability to reproduce was seen
to be an inherent part of her identity. Thus there existed societal pressures not only for women to
become mothers, but to fit into the impossible standard of being the perfect mother. However, as the
feminist movement gained more ground and women were increasingly incorporated into the
workforce, these traditional views of genderroles and in turn motherhood were challenged. As the
family dynamics that exist today are much more diverse, what... Show more content on

They argue that this media driven debate pins working mothers against stay at home mothers in
order to divert the dialogue away from the real issues such as affordable health care, quality
childcare, gender and racial equality, fathers roles in parenting, media effects, fair wages and
benefits, and family friendly work arrangements (204). They state that in this culture of mother
blame, mothers have been blamed for causing problems in regards to childhood development such
as, epilepsy, colitis, asthma, ulcers, arthritis, anorexia nervosa, and a multitude of more severe
problems in children (207). However, they argue that it is now accepted that these disorders are in
fact not caused by poor mothering... (208). Another issue with the Mommy Wars debate is that it
portrays a universal kind of woman white, affluent, and heterosexual ignoring the fact that there are
many different kinds of mothers of all backgrounds, sexualities, and economic statuses which can
make those who are not reflected as the average mother, feel inadequate. The authors further argue
that these messages that working mothers are harming their children are what discourage women
from economic participation and achievement and can have a negative impact on a mother s
perception of herself which in turn can affect her performance as a parent. It seems that the

Zen Buddhism Essay
Zen Buddhism was first introduced to China by a South
Indian man called Bodhidharma in around 520 CE. Bodhidharma, according to tradition, was a
man so epic that he removed his own eyelids in order to win a staring contest with a rock wall
(from his severed eyelids sprang tealeaves, and thus, the connection between Zen Buddhism and tea
drinking). The main teaching of Zen is that of zazen, or seated meditation, and that only through
meditation and action, rather than cogitation, can one achieve enlightenment (Elwood, 127 132).
There are two main sects of Zen Buddhism: Rinzai and Soto. Rinzai is the older of the two
schools, and was introduced to Japan by Eisai, a Tendai monk who traveled to China and was
disappointed to see that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the new tenzo, or cook, makes a mistake...a senior monk will surely give him a tongue lashing
in front of everyone. The cook will be criticized if the rice is too hard, the soup is too salty, the
vegetables have been cut too small, the tea is lukewarm, the faucet is left dripping (Hori, 13 14).
Hori goes on to say that if Zen Buddhist masters taught rationally, rather than intuitively, a new
cook would be taken aside for a while in the weeks preceding his appointment and shown how to
cook properly. However, in not being taught the proper way to prepare meals, and through being
forced to constantly be mindful of his actions and the effects they will have on the reactions of his
fellow monks, Zen is effectively being practiced.
Another thing that Rinzai and Soto have in common is their effort to keep monastic life simple to
the point of being almost primitive. This includes the use of wood fires, non flushing toilets, no
running water, no heating or air conditioning, and often no electricity. (Hori, 14) By not allowing
the use of modern, time saving innovations, Zen Buddhist monks are forced to spend much more
time focused on simple, day to day activities, again improving the general state of awareness that
Zen Buddhism seems to be all about.
Along the same lines, monasteries have strict, often harsh, rules dictating many mundane aspects of
everyday life. As we saw in the movie,

Benefits And Benefits Of Benefits
Benefits Plan Benefits are a very important part of the compensation piece for Techtron. They can
often make or break a recruit s decision to accept a position with the company. Therefore it is
important that we offer a competitive benefits package while keeping the bottom line in mind.
Within the realm of benefits there are two types: Legally required benefits and discretionary
benefits. Defined, legally required benefits are protection programs that attempt to promote worker
safety and health, maintain familyincome streams, and assist families in crisis . The Social
Security Act of 1935, workers compensation laws which vary by state, and the Family Medical
LeaveAct of 1993 are all mandated under federal law. Discretionary benefits are benefits that
employers chose to offer. These benefits fall under protection programs, pay for time not worked,
and services (Martocchio, 2015).
Legally Required Benefits: The Social Security Act of 1935 provides for unemployment
insurance, Old age, Survivor and Disability insurance or OASDI for short, and means tested
welfare programs all of which were brought about by The Great Depression (Martin, P. Weaver, D.,
2005). Social Security is financed through a specific payroll tax. Both employers and employees
pay 6.2% of wages up to the taxable maximum of (2015) $118,500. The breakdown in the OASDI
is as follows: OASI = 5.3%, DI = .90%, Total = 6.2% (Retrieved from www.ssa.gov). Workers

Copernicus Influence On Religion
The Religious aspects that life seemed to revolve around during the seventeenth and eighteenth
centuries made a large impression on the way scientists not only distributed their information, but
the way it was written down and explained. During the time period the Church held an
extraordinary amount of power, easily outweighing any mere scientist who claimed the seemingly
impossible notion that the sun, not the earth, was in the center of the universe. Should someone
inadvertently challenge this immense authority, death was not simply a threat, it was an absolute
promise. This absolute giant of a power that was the church, loomed over many scientists such as
Copernicus acknowledged this power by writing things such as can readily hold slanders from

The church itself changed how scientists as a whole worked, scientists didn t dedicate their
works to their inspirations, or their mothers or fathers like most authors (scientific or not) do

a power this was and how is changed the way scientists wrote. In very few to no astrology
textbooks from the twenty first century will you find the words moses or the wisdom of God ,
because while the church is powerful today, it has no where near the sway it had back a few
hundred years ago. This power not only affected the way people spoke, but how they lived and
how history and science and math was recorded, everything revolved around the church, everything
was static to the church, and yet later on, it

Finally in 2008, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) received a criminal complaint filed by
the Manhattan States which said that he (Madoff) confessed to his two sons, who were both
employed at his firm Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC that he had been running a
giant Ponzi scheme. (Wall Street Journal 2012) This led to the arrest of Madoff, who was charged
with criminal securities fraud. In the three months that followed, Madoff : had his investment
firm liquidated; was banned for life by the SEC from practicing in the investment industry; gave
up the rights to his investment firm, artwork, and event tickets; and pled guilty to 11 criminal
charges, including securities fraud, wire fraud, mail fraud, money laundering, and making a false
filing with the SEC. The judge ordered him to jail, pending sentencing and revoked his bail. (Wall

Compare the Presentation of War in the poems Dulce et Decorum est , by Wilfred Owen and
Icarus Allsorts , by Roger McGough.
Dulce et Decorum est was written by Wilfred Owen and Icarus Allsorts was written by Roger
McGough. Dulce was written during WW1. Wilfred Owen wrote this poem while he was in a
military hospital. In the poem Owen reveals the chilling truth about what WW1 was really like.
Icarus was written in the tension of the Cold War. In the poem Roger McGough turns a very
serious (fake) event into a joke. Dulce was written in 1917 and published in 1920. It was written
to show that Jessie Pope s poem Who s for the Game was a whole pot of lies. Icarus Allsorts was

The tone/mood in Dulce is sad and negative. In all my helpless dreams, before my helpless sight
he plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning. In this quotation Owen is referring to a dream
he has had. Also he is describing what is happening in the dream a man is drowning from gas.
He is also having this dream because the things he has seen in war are things that will stick in
his head forever. This is sad and negative. In 2012 we have computers, radios, T.V.s etc. and can
find out what the conditions were like in any war but back in 1917 when WW1 was going on the
only way for a family member to know what their son/dad/nephew/grandson was seeing was
through a poem and reading poems like Dulce would make them feel worried and sad.
Another difference is the way both poems are written. Icarus is written like a news report. Using
a lack of punctuation does this. This stanza is an example of the lack of punctuation used in the
poem. From every corner of the earth bombs began to fly there were even missile jams no traffic
lights in the sky in the time it takes to blow your nose the people fell, the mushrooms rose. This
lack of use of punctuation makes you read the poem fast this relates to how quick a nuclear bomb
can drop and destroy. Also the lack of punctuation communicates the idea that all the events from
the poem are occurring simultaneously as the bombs explode. Dulce is written like a diary as it is
written in the first person. I saw him drowning Also Dulce is

the role that family, religion and the African Americancommunity plays on the experiences of
young black men who have sex with other men through in depth interviews. Interviews were
conducted from sixteen participants. Seven participants were HIV positive while the remaining

elements such as family, religion or the black community. Through reading the text, the authors

Toronto Blue Jays need to revitalize the old and outdated Rogers Centre to bring a greater positive

Oktoberfest Research Paper
Across the Atlantic, Germany started the world s largest beer event Oktoberfest in 1810 when
King Ludwig got married and a festival was held for the royal wedding. At the start, Oktoberfest
main focus was on horse races, however, more and more beer stands were popping up and then
beer tents started taking their place. In order for breweries to serve their beer in the event, the beer
had to be brewed in Munichand it also had to be in compliance with the Reinheitsgebot purity laws.
Today, Oktoberfests first focus is beer but, now, there are many rides and attractions to see while at
the fair.
Around the late 1800 s the birth of modern beer took place in response to commercial
refrigeration, pasteurization, automatic bottling and railroad transportation. Before the Modern
Era the average person only had access to beer through taverns because it would have been too
costly to individually bottle. They were stored in large barrels for the tavern and had a finite
shelf life. Transportation was also an issue before railroads because the large barrels were
burdensome to transport. Due to the hassle and cost of transportation, it was rare to see beer
outside town limits. In the modern era, beer could be bottled cheaper and pasteurized so it could
survive a longer rail journey in less than ideal temperatures. Beer was ... Show more content on

The Daughter Of Time By Joseph Essay
Josephine Tey s The Daughter of Time is a historical novel that looks at the belief that
Richard III, King of England, murdered his two nephews in order to maintain his power. This
novel also supports the belief that the truth comes out through time. In the novel the main character,
Grant, is concerned with what he believes is a unknown fact of whether or not the long ago King
of England was guilty. Throughout his search for the answer Grant discovers many history books
which all tend to view Richard in different ways. It is from these different views of the same man,
that one can draw the conclusion that bias plays a major role in the validity and credibility of
documents and personal accounts. So what is the role and in what ways ... Show more content on

Personal accounts and documents are often overlooked or considered unbelievable because they
cannot be considered valid due to the bias opinions of the writer. As historians many find this
discouraging because they have no account of what really happened and only have what can be
read from the writings of others. In the media bias plays a role in the validity of certain things. An
example, just one out of the many, where bias plays a role in the credibility of certain events is the
Pocahontas story. With out going into too much detail it is safe to say that the Disney version was
very much altered from the real version. Pocahontas was a nickname for the naughty one the girls
real name in this legend was Matoaka. [visit http://www.powhatan.org/pocc.html to see what is

If bias continues to effect how valid certain past documents are, the documents which help to base
our future, than what do we as historians have to go on?
When one takes The Daughter of Time and looks closely another name for daughter one may come
up with is truth. The truth is what eventually evolves after time. The truth comes out through time,
is a statement which this book The Daughter of Time demonstrated very well. It showed how
Grant found evidence to support his belief that Richard the III was in fact innocent. It took many
years for someone to realize this but that is the role of time in this case. Grant used information
from books, which had been

Essay Layering Internet Model
There are three parts to this assignment relating to each lecture in Module 1.
Part 1: Layering and the Internet Model
Imagine that a technology organization has been in business for decades, and that the organization
developed its own method of computer to computer communication. Because this method of
communication only occurs within this organization, it is not layered, but rather is designed to
operate as quickly and efficiently as possible on the custom hardware by using the least amount of
overhead possible. The organization continues to create its own communication hardware and
software that works with modern computers, but the CTO of the organization is considering
replacing this custom communication solution with the adoption ... Show more content on

Thus Cost will be reduced as there will be many vendors offering the products at different layers.
Competition and compatibility of the products will be more, which will in turn reduce the cost.
Topic 2: The Disadvantages of a Layered Model
Identify and describe the disadvantages of a layered solution when compared to the organization s
non layered solution.
1.The processing and data overhead because for any communication to take place it has to go
through all 5 layers (internet model ) and 7 layers for OSI model.
2. The data overhead as it adds headers at each layer as the datagram moves down the stack. Thus
part of bandwidth is used for the protocol headers instead of message/data.
3. Addition of headers at each layer also increases the computation overhead.
Topic 3: The Layers of the Internet Model
Identify the layers of the Internet Model, and explain what functionality each layer would provide
for the organization, if adopted.
Layers of the Internet Model :
1. The Physical Layer 2. The Data link layer 3. The Network layer 4. The Transport layer 5. The
Application layer
Physical layer : The Physical layer is the lowest layer of the internet model and is concerned with
the transmission and reception of the unstructured raw bit stream. It describes the electrical/optical,
mechanical, and functional interfaces to the physical medium, and carries the signals for all of

  • 2. Adlerian Theory In The Movie Antwone Fisher Upon watching the movie Antwone Fisher, I found that Psychodynamic theory and Adlerian theory would serve well to treating the movie s main character, Antwone. Antwone is an African American man who struggles with his emotionally unstable life. He joined the Navy after leaving Cleveland, but was plagued with anger and temperament issues which stem from his childhood. These issues, upon watching further into the movie, are associated with the emotional and physical abuse that was inflicted upon him via varying authoritarian figures from his foster family. These childhood issues have since caused Antwone to struggle finding a self image and identity that he can call his very own. Psychodynamic theory revolves around the perspective to attempt and gain an intuitive understanding of what transpires in the mind of an individual and how these thoughts ultimately drive the individual in an outward sense. Counselors who use this theory help the client to look into their personal relationships, the experiences due to their worldviews, and how their preferences affect their behaviors and personality. Antwone, upon being placed into therapy sessions was angry and clearly thought the course of action was a waste of time. To begin the process of conceptualizing Antwone s problems, a psychodynamic counselor might ask about the relationships Antwone had as a child. Davenport, in the movie, asks Antwone where he is from with Antwone s response being Under a rock. In the last of the three mandatory sessions, Antwone, once he begins to open up to Davenport, discloses that his father was shot to death a couple of months before he was born and his mother was in prison and had to give him up due to the circumstances. Antwone was then placed in a foster home with two other children, one older and one younger the older brother is half Caucasian and half African American. Upon first disclosure, Antwone mentions that his foster mother would beat him and his other African American brother. When talking about his relationships with his foster family, Antwone eventually discusses how his foster mother s cousin, Nadine, raped him when he was just six years old. A counselor, such as Davenport, can parallel Antwone s past ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Analysis Of Why Millennials CanT Grow Up The Millennial Generation is earning 20 percent less than the Generation X and the Baby Boomers. Psychotherapist at NYU (according to the university s website), Brooke Donatone argues in her article, Why Millennials Can t Grow Up that millennials experience extended adolescence that delays adulthood (Donatone 1). The author believes that the reasons for that happening are parents by their helicopter parenting and the economy because there are less high paying jobs that allow millennials to be financially independent. Throughout the article, Donatone explains that there is evidence on how it is not millennials fault that they are experiencing delayed adulthood. Therefore, it is safe to assume that her intended audience are the parents... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His article also contrasts Donatone s second flaw of unprofessional tone because he continuously stays professional and mindful of his audience that comes from world of business professionals. Donatone proposes that the reason for millennials struggles with adulthood, like working, dealing with people or even doing laundry is caused by helicopter parenting; however, she uses Amy, a girl that comes from a family with moderate wealth, to wrongly generalize that all millennials come from similar background. It is especially inappropriate and unfair to generalize about this topic because she talks about such a big and diverse group that is millennial generation, and not everyone comes from the same background. Donatone shows that Amy comes from middle class family when she says She finally had to dump the part time job, was still unable to do laundry, and often stayed up until 2 a.m. to complete her homework because she didn t know how to manage her time without her parents ... (Donatone 1). In order for someone to be able to drop their job they need someone that can help with their financial needs and wants, therefore it is safe to assume that Amy comes from a family with moderate wealth that is able to support those needs and wants. The author s moment when she generalizes that all millennials are like Amy and come from similar background is when she states It s easy to generalize an entire population by its ... In the article entitled Extracurricular activities and the development of social skills in children with intellectual and specific learning disabilities the authors begin to explain why children with intellectual and specific learning disabilities social skills are absent. According to Brooks, Floyd, Robins, and Chan, participation in social activities is positively related to children s social adjustment, but little is known about the benefits of activity participation for children with intellectual and specific disabilities (2015, p. 678). Children typically become aware of how to interact with other children through Albert Bandura s social learning theory. The Second hypothesis states that given their greater need for improving social competence, we predicted that participation in out of school activities would have a greater impact on predicting social competence for children with intellectual disability or a specific learning disability than for an age matched typically developing comparison group (Brooks, Floyd, Robins, and Chan, 2015, p. 680). Families living in the southeastern USA in rural and urban communities were taken from public schools for testing. The sample consisted of 117 students, 75 boys and 42 girls, between the ages of eight and eleven years old. The mean age of the sample was 9.44 and the standard deviation was 1.05. The students were categorized into three different groups, the learning disability, intellectual disability, and the typically developing students. The learning disability group contains 53 students who are enrolled in services for specific learning disability and school Individual Education Programs. The intellectual disability group contained 40 students who s IQ scores were between 40 and 70. The typically developing group consisted of 24 students who show no signs of intellectual disability, psycho emotional disorder, specific learning disabilities or physical disorder. • 6. Summary Of Ode On Melancholy In John Keats Ode on Melancholy, he writes on the relationship of the self and how one deals with Melancholy. There have been many different authors that have written about the topic of experiencing melancholy. Generally, writers talk about melancholy as a problem and wanting to escape it, or they discuss how one can remedy it. However, Keats takes a different approach and discusses an alternative way of looking at melancholy. On the surface, the poem talks about ways that one should not escape it, how one should deal with it, and ends with a conclusion on melancholy. The poem, when analyzed closer, shifts to a different meaning. Through Keats use of word choice, symbolism, and form, he discusses the relationship between appreciation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (474). Then, he begins to offer solutions to dealing with melancholy. He repeatedly uses the words like glut, feed, and imagery of food when describing how to deal with this sadness (474). This repetition of imagery suggests that one should continue to feed this melancholy spirit, rather than escape it whatsoever so that it is experienced as much as possible. He also continues to use imagery of heaven or at least transcendence in some sort of way, by referencing heaven repeatedly. He also suggests a relationship between transcendence and melancholy in the sentence, Ay, in the very temple of Delight / Veil d Melancholy has her Sovran shrine (474). Therefore, this creates an undertone that melancholy is related to something that is heavenly, which will be explored later on. Throughout the poem, Keats uses symbolism to create polarities such as death and life, experience and escape that shifts the poem s meaning to a philosophical thought process. The beginning stanza makes numerous references to death, but also to life as well. For instance, Keats references Proserpine, who was the goddess of the underworld, but also came to earth for half of the year so that she could be with her mother, Ceres, who was the goddess of the harvest (474, 170). Therefore, this immediately creates a polarity between spending half her time in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This would provide both sides a reasonable outlook period in which to improve the conditions of business. This time could be used by the parties to undergo voluntary mediation for the union s members to come to a mutual agreement into what the playerswant and feel they need. The main purpose of this suggestion would be to alleviate the threat of strikes and lockouts due to expired CBA contracts. • 10. The Evolution Of Tetra Pods It is often debated which species share common ancestors, in particular, how closely related amphibians, mammals and osteichthyes are. The evolution of tetra pods, or four legged animals, from aquatic animals such as fish can be traced back 365 million years ago to the Devonian, 408 360, mya, and evidence shows that this evolution was divergent in nature (Freeman, S. 2011; Myer, A and Zardoya, R. 2004). Divergent evolution, also sometimes termed adaptive radiation, occurs over many geological times and gives rise to a number of new species that all occupy different habitats and show characteristics that assist in survival and reproduction under their natural selection pressures (Kinear, J.F. 2000). Different organisms can evolve in similar ways even if they are not similar by descent from a common ancestor and this is known as homoplasy (Hawks, J. 2005). Classification of animals is an important field of biology, as new knowledge about genetics, anatomy and evolutionary relationships often leads to new thoughts on how different groups of organisms are related. In the biological systems of classification, all organisms are divided and classed into increasingly specific groups, starting with the kingdom, and finally being classed down to their genus and species (Huxley, L; Watter, M. 2005). Animals are either vertebrates or invertebrates, and this determines what phyla they belong to. All vertebrates, for example are all classed under the chordate phylum, meaning that they all evolved from an ancestor that had a notochord along the back (dorsal) side. Mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians and birds are all chordates. Studies on vertebrates have revealed that progressive evolutionary adaptations, such as improved respiration, efficient reproduction and paired muscular appendages enabled the vertebrates to survive in a wider range of habitats and on land. The development of the earliest vertebrates and the transition from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Indentured servants and slaves were overworked by their masters because exploitive colonial planters and plantation owners pushed them to the degree that they eventually died at a very early. When indentured non white servants migrated to Virginia in the seventeenth century, they were immediately put to work because masters sought to gain wealth as soon as possible and lead forty percent of these servants to die before their four year term was finished (Jovanovich, 1984). • 12. Essay about Guide to Becoming a Jerk Guide to Becoming a Jerk Being a jerk can be fun. It gives you a feeling of dominance over others; you are more important then the rest. You are the wolf among a flock of sheep; people fear you, and therefore look up to you. Being a jerk is not hard; all you have to do is think about yourself and your own feelings, and forget that everyone else has emotions. There are various ways of achieving this perception of importance; you can put people down and belittle them, pretend you re better than everyone, or just be plain mean, unpolite, and nasty. Sure, there might be some little voice inside saying that you are no better than anyone else is, but you can drown out that nagging reminder with constant insults to others. Nothing replaces ... You are yourself and no one else; you feel only your feelings and no one else s; so why should you be concerned with anyone but yourself? You are king in your own mind, and your perception is everything. If you can t be bothered to be a witty, sarcastic jerk, you can just be a regular, mean jerk. This kind of jerk is intolerant and impatient (to a higher degree than the other type of jerk), rude, and unsarcastically mean. The next time someone gives you something or does something for you, don t say thank you or show gratitude; you should even go so far as to complain about what they gave you or how they should accomplish things faster. He became an advocate for the inclusion of the Gentiles among the true followers of Christianity. Until Paul s challenge, Jewish Christians believed that non Jews had to convert to Judaism and follow the law, which included restrictions and circumcision. Gentiles who worship in the synagogue but did not become proselytes were called god fearers and were only second class citizens in the synagogue. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki /Circumcision_controversy_in_early_Christianity) As the Gentiles did not follow kashruth, many Christian Jews refused to eat with Christian Gentiles, believing them to be unclean and not acceptable. This had implications for church fellowship and for the ritual celebration of the Lord s Supper. Paul challenged this belief, (Galatians 2: 11 14) most strongly at the Council of Jerusalem in 50 CE. This lead to the decision by the early Christian leaders to enable Gentiles as well as Jews to be followers of Jesus of Nazareth and to call themselves Christians. Permitting freedom from the laws of kashruth and circumcision allowed Christianity to spread more freely amongst the Gentiles and is why Paul is so significant today. • 14. Biblical Heroism In Treasure Island By Robert Louis Stevenson Noah. Moses. Joshua. Esther. What might all these people share in common? All were heroes in light of the biblical understanding of the term, heroism. Matthew 20:28 states, Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many (NIV). This verse embodies one of the components of a true heros character. The biblical heroes mentioned above were humble, led others by serving, counted others needs more significant than their own, and obeyed God s call for their lives. Of course, they were sinners and still stumbled and fell, but their lives demonstrate true biblical heroism in their strivings to honor God and serve others. Noah obeyed God s command to build an ark and rescued his family and the animals from the Flood. Moses led the grumbling people of Israel out of Egypt and into the desert after continually pleading with Pharaoh to let them go leave Egypt. Joshua listened to God s instruction and led the Israelites around Jericho s walls until they came tumbling down. Uninvited, Esther came into King Nebuchadnezzar s presence, asking him and Haman to dinner where she would eventually expose Haman s evil plans and save the Jews. In Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, the main characters, Long John Silverand Jim Hawkins, do not measure up in comparison to this biblical standard of heroism. • 15. The Problem of Child Labor Essay Please, sir, replied Oliver, I want some more. No one will ever forget the simple plea made by the poor hungry little orphan named Oliver Twist. Nobody will be able to omit from his mind the painful blows that Oliver suffered. Nor will anyone cease to recall what it felt like to be young and helpless in a much bigger and stronger world. In an effort to bring the ostracized poverty situation of so many children to the public s attention, Charles Dickens wrote an unforgettable book to touch the hearts of millions. Whether he knew it then or not, he was also bringing a new connotation and worldwide innuendo to the term child labor. Child labor, is a term that will probably never be clearly defined. Though our intentions mean well, we cannot lose our head every time a story involving a helpless child in an uncaring society reaches the news. We must not, in our naiveness and absence of the facts, be brainwashed to believe that ending child labor will solve anything. For what Greene forgets to include in her definition is the one element that makes the problem impossible to deal with. For some children, child labor, with all its abuses and exploitations, is all that stands between life and death. As much as the world s public is now aware of all the corruption behind the productivity of big international corporations, we must also come to realize the other side of the argument. The prohibition of child labor in its entirety is not the solution. It is neither possible nor probable. As long as poverty exists, children will work to stay alive. The complete and utter abolishment of child labor by more developed countries may hurt the poverty stricken children of less developed countries more than if absolutely nothing was done. The Theme Of Death In Slaughterhouse Five And Death Slaughterhouse Five and Death There s a recurring theme throughout Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut which permeates throughout the story from beginning to end. It s the idea that death is just that. Death. One can argue that Vonnegut attempts to desensitize death through the Billy Pilgrim and the Sci Fi story of the Tralfamadorians, but what if he is instead using these examples in order to justify the exact opposite idea? By planting us into Billy Pilgrim s surreal and insane story filled with destruction and soulless human action, it may on surface seem as if he is regarding death as a meaningless construct, but what if he is instead trying to tell us that death should actually be something regarded as monumental and crucial to the... The simple phrase seems to follow concepts related to death throughout the first half of the novel, and the melancholic and casual tone of the phrase parallel with the idea that death is something to gloss over and not emphasize with. This idea by nature is comforting. It allows anybody to ignore deaths and view them as unimportant. This comforting way of thinking simultaneously places the reader into the psyche of Billy Pilgrim and his mentality. The phrase is repeated over a hundred times, and the repetitive nature of it being stated brings the reader into the same mindset by sheer repetition. Interestingly enough, the phrase is also very rarely placed alongside completely unrelated ideas. When Billy Pilgrim uncorked a bottle of champagne on the kitchen table, It didn t make a pop. The champagne was dead. So it goes (70). After nearly all of the prior utilization of the phrase so it goes is used to accompany death, Vonnegut places it next to a moment which is anything but related to it. This shatters the consistency of the quote and in a way, compares death to any small disappointing moment in a life. The phrase resonates even more because now, it compares death to something like overcooking a steak or dropping a cell phone. Doing this is, of course, comfortable. Power is what blinds people and deceives them; it makes people believe they are in control, when in reality they are only fooling themselves. The character in The Crucible that knows best just how easily power can entice and energize someone with its false sense of fulfillment, just to leave them stripped of their conscience with nothing left to show for their actions but regret, is Mary Warren. The first instance where Mary Warren struggles with the giddy, detrimental fulfillment that power provides, is when she becomes one of the prosecutors in the court. During these court sessions, she, along with other young girls, pretend to faint and turn cold in the presence of accused witches. Many of the other girls have ulterior motives for pretending that they are being bewitched. Abigail s motive is wanting to eliminate Elizabeth by condemning her to death so she can finally be with her adulterous lover John Proctor. However, Mary Warren does not have an ulterior motive for participating in these trials and does so for no reason other than the fact that she is drunk with power. She realizes she holds the fates of these benevolent souls in her hands, and with one trifling shiver and perhaps a brief fainting spell, she can ruin these people s lives by making them choose to either taint their soul by turning against their own religion or give ... • 29. History Of Internet On The World Josh Margolis EMF140 November 2, 2015 History of Internet Before the the Internet was created, linking the world, human beings were already thinking with a connected mind. While messages obviously were unable to be transferred electronically, humans invented different ways to trade information and news with other people. Firstly was the post. In order to send a friend a message, a letter would have had to been written and mailed. Mailing messages was a long process, often taking days to get one message to another person. This method (still used today) was not the most convenient because there is no urgency or speed in mailing a letter. Luckily in the mid 1800 s the telegraph was invented. Sent for the first time in 1838, the telegraph was the first instance of sending a message (4). A telegraph is defined as the transmission of textual or symbolic messages without the physical exchange of an object. This is the first instance of a message being sent in a virtual sense (2). While messages could be delivered through the mail within a matter of days, a telegraph could be transmitted live. At the time this was quite a feat. When studying the creation of the internet, it is important to remember that not one single man directly created the web that we know today. Rather, many brilliant minds, over time, added and refined the experience for the greater good. Originally, the earliest version of the internet was constructed as a tool for US warfare. • 34. Brief History of the Domestication of Cats and Dogs You can find at least one cat or dog in almost every home in America. In fact, approximately 67 million households have pets and there are 164 million owned pets in the U.S. (U.S. Pet Ownership). But, do we know where our beloved pets came from? Many know that the dog descended from wolves and the cat descended from some larger wild catbut it is a little more complicated than that. So just what country did cats originate from? Researchers found that cats have been involved with humans for about 4,000 years. They also found a feline that roamed Eurasia and Africa more than 34 million years ago! That s a long time! This early cat weighed about twenty pounds and was the size of the bobcats we see today. It was called the Proailurus, which means early cat (Cat History). The NC Museum of Natural Scientists states that cats came to North America with Colonial settlers in the 1700 s. Humans have helped spread them throughout the world by keeping them as companions (Pushy Plants). Unlike dogs, cats are said to have domesticated themselves. When humans started settling North America and farming land, cats came in and protected the crops from rodents. The humans saw that they were good so they fed and protected the cats (Carver). The humans also began to store crops, such as grain, and with storage, came rats. The cats were delighted by the great amounts of prey and the people appreciated cats even more (Zax). The earliest breed of cats in Europe was the Angora. Scientists ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thus there existed societal pressures not only for women to become mothers, but to fit into the impossible standard of being the perfect mother. The main teaching of Zen is that of zazen, or seated meditation, and that only through meditation and action, rather than cogitation, can one achieve enlightenment (Elwood, 127 132). Hori goes on to say that if Zen Buddhist masters taught rationally, rather than intuitively, a new cook would be taken aside for a while in the weeks preceding his appointment and shown how to cook properly. However, in not being taught the proper way to prepare meals, and through being forced to constantly be mindful of his actions and the effects they will have on the reactions of his fellow monks, Zen is effectively being practiced. Another thing that Rinzai and Soto have in common is their effort to keep monastic life simple to the point of being almost primitive. This includes the use of wood fires, non flushing toilets, no running water, no heating or air conditioning, and often no electricity. (Hori, 14) By not allowing the use of modern, time saving innovations, Zen Buddhist monks are forced to spend much more time focused on simple, day to day activities, again improving the general state of awareness that Zen Buddhism seems to be all about. Along the same lines, monasteries have strict, often harsh, rules dictating many mundane aspects of everyday life. As we saw in the movie, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The implementation of real grass will require significant capital to change and maintain the grass. For example, the grass itself is costly and one the main reasons many stadiums prefer turf. Moreover, the reengineering of the stadium to handle real grass will be costly as well. Also, the cost of an irrigation system, artificial lighting, and a retrofit (funnel humidity that comes off grass) are the additional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Oktoberfest Research Paper Across the Atlantic, Germany started the world s largest beer event Oktoberfest in 1810 when King Ludwig got married and a festival was held for the royal wedding. At the start, Oktoberfest main focus was on horse races, however, more and more beer stands were popping up and then beer tents started taking their place. In order for breweries to serve their beer in the event, the beer had to be brewed in Munichand it also had to be in compliance with the Reinheitsgebot purity laws. Today, Oktoberfests first focus is beer but, now, there are many rides and attractions to see while at the fair. Around the late 1800 s the birth of modern beer took place in response to commercial refrigeration, pasteurization, automatic bottling and railroad transportation. Before the Modern Era the average person only had access to beer through taverns because it would have been too costly to individually bottle. They were stored in large barrels for the tavern and had a finite shelf life. Transportation was also an issue before railroads because the large barrels were burdensome to transport. Due to the hassle and cost of transportation, it was rare to see beer outside town limits. In the modern era, beer could be bottled cheaper and pasteurized so it could survive a longer rail journey in less than ideal temperatures. Beer was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was the year New Albion Brewing Co. was founded and is considered the birth, or rebirth rather, of craft brewing. New Albion was founded after Jack McAuliffe was stationed in Europe where he enjoyed quality beers there. After coming back to the U.S. he could only find the large company lagers and decided he would create a brewery with a focus on quality and taste. The brewery only lasted 6 years but the craft beer movement is still around to this day. Today there are over 1800 craft breweries in the US and it is one of the fastest growing segments in beer with an almost 19% growth rate for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. The Daughter Of Time By Joseph Essay Josephine Tey s The Daughter of Time is a historical novel that looks at the belief that Richard III, King of England, murdered his two nephews in order to maintain his power. This novel also supports the belief that the truth comes out through time. In the novel the main character, Grant, is concerned with what he believes is a unknown fact of whether or not the long ago King of England was guilty. Throughout his search for the answer Grant discovers many history books which all tend to view Richard in different ways. It is from these different views of the same man, that one can draw the conclusion that bias plays a major role in the validity and credibility of documents and personal accounts. So what is the role and in what ways ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Personal accounts and documents are often overlooked or considered unbelievable because they cannot be considered valid due to the bias opinions of the writer. As historians many find this discouraging because they have no account of what really happened and only have what can be read from the writings of others. In the media bias plays a role in the validity of certain things. An example, just one out of the many, where bias plays a role in the credibility of certain events is the Pocahontas story. With out going into too much detail it is safe to say that the Disney version was very much altered from the real version. Pocahontas was a nickname for the naughty one the girls real name in this legend was Matoaka. [visit http://www.powhatan.org/pocc.html to see what is being referred to] If bias continues to effect how valid certain past documents are, the documents which help to base our future, than what do we as historians have to go on? When one takes The Daughter of Time and looks closely another name for daughter one may come up with is truth. The truth is what eventually evolves after time. The truth comes out through time, is a statement which this book The Daughter of Time demonstrated very well. It showed how Grant found evidence to support his belief that Richard the III was in fact innocent. It took many years for someone to realize this but that is the role of time in this case. Grant used information from books, which had been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Essay Layering Internet Model There are three parts to this assignment relating to each lecture in Module 1. Part 1: Layering and the Internet Model Imagine that a technology organization has been in business for decades, and that the organization developed its own method of computer to computer communication. Because this method of communication only occurs within this organization, it is not layered, but rather is designed to operate as quickly and efficiently as possible on the custom hardware by using the least amount of overhead possible. The organization continues to create its own communication hardware and software that works with modern computers, but the CTO of the organization is considering replacing this custom communication solution with the adoption ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus Cost will be reduced as there will be many vendors offering the products at different layers. Competition and compatibility of the products will be more, which will in turn reduce the cost. Topic 2: The Disadvantages of a Layered Model Identify and describe the disadvantages of a layered solution when compared to the organization s non layered solution. 1.The processing and data overhead because for any communication to take place it has to go through all 5 layers (internet model ) and 7 layers for OSI model. 2. The data overhead as it adds headers at each layer as the datagram moves down the stack. Thus part of bandwidth is used for the protocol headers instead of message/data. 3. Addition of headers at each layer also increases the computation overhead. Topic 3: The Layers of the Internet Model Identify the layers of the Internet Model, and explain what functionality each layer would provide for the organization, if adopted. Layers of the Internet Model : 1. The Physical Layer 2. The Data link layer 3. The Network layer 4. The Transport layer 5. The Application layer Physical layer : The Physical layer is the lowest layer of the internet model and is concerned with the transmission and reception of the unstructured raw bit stream. It describes the electrical/optical, mechanical, and functional interfaces to the physical medium, and carries the signals for all of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
