The Social Hierarchy Of Jane Eyre By Charlotte Bronte
In Charlotte Bronte s novel, Jane Eyre, Bronte seemingly condemns the existing social hierarchy. Not
only are the characters who are most concerned with the allure of fortune and rank portrayed as either
deceitful or unethical, but even characters who ve accepted their means of poverty and demonstrate
honest moral natures are mocked. Rather than use the normal class structures, the book suggests that a
person of impoverished means can be viewed as socially respectable with the condition that they
maintain a sincere desire to better both oneself and their means of living.
The novel highlights the significance of class consciousness and how one particular class can become
subjective to the hands of the dogmatic elites. The derogative attitudes regarding social class first
occurs when Jane suffers horrible treatment from John Reed. He violently torments Jane and
constantly reminds her that she is an orphan and a dependent of the Reed family, forcing into her mind
that to be without a class is to be without worth. He imposes fear into Jane and reminding her that he
is the superior being.
You have no business to take our books; you are a dependent, mamma says; you have no money; your
father left you none; you ought to beg, and not to live here with gentlemen s children like us, and eat
the same meals we do, and wear clothes at our mamma s expense. Now, I ll teach you to rummage my
book shelves: for they are mine; all the house belongs to me, or will do in a few years.

The Tensile Of Tensile Test
The tensile test is a standout amongst the most normally utilized tests for assessing materials. The
tensile test is done just by grasping inverse finishes of test thing and applying elastic power with the
machine. This outcomes in continuous stretching and consequent fracture in the test thing. During this
procedure, power expansion information normally are checked and recorded. Malleable test measures
properties like extreme rigidity and most extreme stretching specifically simultaneously, utilizing
these estimations different properties, for example, Young s Modulus, Poisson s proportion and yield
quality can likewise be resolved. At the point when appropriately directed, the pliable test results
power expansion information that can measure a few vital mechanical properties of a material. The
ductile test led for this paper is done in room temperature under the ISO 6892 1 standard.
4.6 Sheet Metal Cutting Methods For conducting a tensile test, the sheet metals will be cut from cold
formed metal sheet by various cutting techniques. Regular techniques for cutting sheet metal will be
explored. Reviewed techniques are metal stamping/blanking, water plane cutting and wire electrical
release machine cutting.

b. Protein intake and DRI RDA From my longhand calculation sheet, my protein RDA goal based on
0.8 g protein/kg body weight was 43.9 g/day, which is slightly lower than my 3 day average intake
which was 45.08 g. According to these values, I am not concerned about my protein intake value
because protein is not a major source of energy and it does not store in the body. As a result, for me,
maintaining the similar amount of protein intake is a better choice. If the protein are over consumed, it
might leads to the deficiency of nutrient dense foods intake and increase potential risks of kidney
disease and colon cancer (Hammond, 2016b). On the other hand, if we consume too less protein, the
risks of malnutrition and life threatened diseases such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am concerned about potassium intake because it plays an important role in regulating heartbeat,
lowering blood volume and blood pressure (Hammond, 2016d). The lack of potassium intake will lead
to irregular heartbeat and life threatened diseases such as hypokalemia (Hammond, 2016d). In order to
increase my potassium consumption, animal foods and plant foods especial fresh vegetable and fruit
are needed (Hammond, 2016d). Zinc: My intake value of zinc was 5.59 mg, while the DRI value 8.00
mg. This result should be concerned because Zinc acts as cofactors to protect from oxidative damage
(Hammond, 2016f). Also, the symptoms of lacking Zinc includes diarrhea, slow wound healing,
damaged digestive system and so on (Hammond, 2016h). Therefore, it is important to maintain a
normal intake level of Zinc. Sodium: My 3 day average sodium intake value was 1831.68 mg, and it is
higher than the DRI value of 1500.00 mg. Although over consumed sodium (~ 3400 mg/day) can
cause hypernatremia and hypertension, it posts a low risk for healthy people (Hammond, 2016d). I do
not need to concern too much about the sodium intake, while I am more likely to reduce the
consumption of canned

The relationship between the existence of gall on the goldenrod and the development on the plants by
using aspect measurement at the Riverwood Conservatory
Introduction
This study shows that the present of the gall on the stems of goldenrod has a taller height of stems
than the ones that without galls. The averaging about 4 feet (1.2m) in height, goldenrod is a perennial
with clusters of bright yellow flowers. It has been used for centuries in the treatment of kidney stones,
urinary tract infections, a variety of other medical condition. (1) Survival probability depends on gall
size; in small galls the larvae is vulnerable to parasitoid ovipositor, whereas larvae in large galls are
more frequently eaten by avian predators. (2) During the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, the existing of a gall would not impact on the development on the Goldenrod plants, such
as based on average stem height, which was the stem height is shorter than the ones are normal by the
factor of the presence of a gall. Secondly, the presence of a gall also would not impacted the diameter
of gall and in general that won t be an impact on the plants development. Moreover, based on the
result that have been collected, the Goldenrod stem was thinner than the normal ones also by a factor
of whether there was a gall or not on the plants. The presence of a gall did not significantly affect final
stem height but did slow the growth of ramets during the period of most rapid gall growth. (3)Major
errors that could occurred during this investigation was that groups were not able to give out a
confidence measurement as in a total that nine group might have performed this observation by using
their particular way, which means the data collection might be uncertain due to the groups perform the
experiment differently. On top of it, it is important that whether the performed group used a ground as
a reference point for recording the height of stem from the plant, which would lead to the failed of the
hypothesis and draw an incorrect result at the end of this observation. Suggestion that could avoid this
error occur is to give specific way

John Muir and Theodore Roosevelt went on a camping trip in Yosemite Valley. They went in March of
1903. They planned a camping trip because they planned to preserve nature in Yosemite Valley. For
thirty years John Muir has tried to persuade people to preserve the area but it wasn t easy. Soon
enough he got a letter from Roosevelt saying he wanted to go on a camping trip with just Muir.
According to Fleming ¨ Roosevelt already expressed his outrage over destruction of the wilderness.¨.
Muir agreed to guide Roosevelt. Roosevelt was dazzled by Yosemite Valley that he went on to give a
speech saying ¨The sequoias deserve protection, simply because it would be a shame to let them
disappear.¨ according to Fleming. When Roosevelt went to california

The Is The Uncontrolled Growth Of Blood Cancer New Zealand
Leukaemia is the uncontrolled growth of blood cells which occurs in the bone marrow (National
Cancer Institute, 2013). Every day six New Zealanders are diagnosed with some form of blood cancer
(Leukaemia and blood cancer New Zealand, 2015). It is believed that more than 10,000 people in New
Zealand are affected by blood cancers such as, leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma or related blood
diseases (Leukaemia and blood cancer New Zealand, 2015).Leukaemia is believed to be ten times
more common in adults and double as common in males (McKenna, 2000). Blood cancers are the fifth
most common cancer in New Zealand. Furthermore, leukaemia is most common among children in
New Zealand (Leukaemia and blood cancer New Zealand, 2015). This assignment will describe the
pathophysiological condition, symptom, current best practice and treatment of Acute Lymphoblastic
Leukaemia (ALL).
Four types of leukaemia
Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) With this type of leukaemia, a patient s myeloid cells get affected
and develop rapidly. Leukemic blast cells develop in the bone marrow and blood. It is more common
in adults (McKenna, 2000).
Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) Patient s with ALL have lymphoid cells affected and it grows
rapidly. It is more common in children (McKenna, 2000).
Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML) It affects myeloid cells and develops slowly initially. In the blood
test, high numbers of white blood cells is seen. There might be the presence of less leukemic blast

Peter Olson s Ceramic Art
It is not unusual for ceramicists to employ photography as a means of documenting their works, yet
Philadelphia based artist Peter Olson s method of incorporating these two media on his exquisite clay
creations is arguably previously unseen. In each of his work, the artist cleverly unfolds a pleasant
surprise. As the audience closely examines Olson s signature kaleidoscopic surface decoration which
bears a resemblance to motifs found on Islamic artifacts and Greek vessels, images of modern streets
and people appear where floral design and mythological beings are expected to be. Photo Ceramica is
a refreshing meld of photography and ceramic art; the works showcased in the show represent nothing
less than the best of both worlds. More than 40 pieces, including bowls, marionettes, tiles, and large
urns takes over the 3,200 square feet gallery space at The American Museum of Ceramic Art
(AMOCA). Assisting them is a long wall of photos originally taken by Olsen to be used as design
elements. The exhibit plan is resolved so that visitors have a chance to visually experience the
production of the artist s works from the very beginning. Olson s process begins with printing and

The Mexican War Of Argentina
Throughout Argentina and as well other Central American countries during that of the late 1970 s,
many were going through severe political upheaval. This political catastrophe coupled with various
human rights violations pushed many people to the edge and out of their homeland. Economically
drained and scared for their lives Argentines sought freedom and asylum within the United States. For
many this was the start of something new in a foreign country with people that speak a foreign
language. Courage and bravery those are two words that in my eyes describe an immigrant that has
been forced to endure so much that they leave everything they had ever known. The Dirty War of
Argentina caused families to be ripped apart and people to vanish as if they had never existed. This
horrendous stretch in Argentine history showcased various human rights violations, corrupt leaders,
United States backed coup, death and a need for reform in a country that was broken and dismayed.
The Argentine Dirty War was a deadly tumultuous war that struck the country sort of by surprise
forcing many to abandon their homeland. It all started with Isabel Peron becoming the first female
president of Argentina after her husband was forced out due to illness where he received around the
clock care. Although there were many Peronist supporters in favor of her rule, there was a growing
insurgency to overthrow her corrupt regime. Her regime inherited problems of inflation, labour unrest,

Pan mean? All Peter can do is fly around but that is what Darth Vader wants.Darth Vader was on a
strange planet were he found a boy named Peter who never wanted to grow up, plus he could fly and
take children. Darth Vader thought Peter could steal people who are Jedis. When Peter went to the
dark side captain Hook became a Jedi.
Instead of a hook he now had a light saver for a hand. Captain Hook would not let Peter take any
Jedis. Luke skywalker would train Hook but hook thought he could handle it on his own. Yoda made
Hook train with Luke. Of course han solo was there with chewy but they were just sitting around like
losers. I still can t believe Peter Pan and star wars came together in one story that s crazy, at least that s
what I think, yet again frozen and star wars came together in someone else s story. Well lets get back

Self Regulation And Education-Not Advertising
Advertising, we all know it and we all have a love hate relationship for it. The most current topic on
advertising right now is, whether or not advertisement s targeting the youth of this nation should be
allowed. There are many arguments on both sides that make very valid and convincing arguments, yet
overall it all comes down to how you view the world. Personally I believe that, if moderated,
advertisements targeting a young audience are not harmful enough to ban them overall. In the article
Self Regulation and Education Not legislation the writer supports the contiuance of children s
advertising. The article points out that advertising not only helps the economy grow but creates smart
consumers out of the youth who watch them.

The Theme Of Antisemitism In Night Of Surrender
I think Night of Surrender serves to showcase the difficulty Holocaust survivors faced when
attempting to transition back into the regular world. This tension faced by all Jewish survivors after
World War 2 is the central theme of the story. We see the female protagonist struggle with trying to
find happiness after staying relatively safe during the Holocaust. I should be happy to have survived,
but I wasn t happy, and I was upset to be so sad (Fink 93). The woman cannot seem to escape her past
even on such a celebratory night the night of the surrender. She goes on to reveal herself as Jewish and
talks about her struggle with her significant other Mike, saying Do you know what it means to live in
fear, lying, never speaking your own language. Or thinking with your own brain, or looking with your
own eyes? (Fink 100). I think Fink is showing us that it s easy to think liberation brought about pure
happiness for the Jewish people which enabled them to live happy fulfilling lives, however many were
hurt emotionally beyond repair by the Nazi regime. What most startles me about this piece is the idea
that even after the war people felt as if they had to hide their Jewish faith out of fear of Antisemitism. I
liked how this story showcased the different viewpoints on Judaism during the time. While
Antisemitism thrived in Europe, Mike who was an American didn t seem to care at all that Ann was
Jewish. The quote I think is worth discussing is when Ann states My knowledge of

that are important to me in my life are some of the best things to live by in the world. One of these
promises is that Mary will give her special protection and the greatest graces to all those who say the
Rosary. This is important in my life because St. John Paul II is one of my biggest role models. He

Theme Of Stanley In A Streetcar Named Desire
In A Streetcar Named Desire , the characters of Blanche and Stanley are presented as opposing
characters in the book, and hence a lot of conflict and friction occurs between them. The character of
Blanche is an older character, from a rather wealthy background and lives in a fantasy world in which
she is still young and hasn t faced the truth. The character of Stanley, however, is a more realistic and
primitive character and can be viewed as Blanche s opposite.
Throughout the play, there is a constant battle between Blanche and Stanley for Stella. This is shown
at the beginning of the play when Blanche disapproves of Stella s home and what she is dressed in,
which to Stanley on the other hand seems completely normal and fine. Blanche: Why, ... Show more

Stanley is shown as the reality of the modern society in that time, where Blanche believes that she is
still young and beautiful, and that all men adore her. Approaching the end of the play, in scene 10, the
idea of Blanche s fantasy is very clearly shown to the audience [She is now placing the rhinestone
tiara on her head before the mirror of the dressing table and murmuring excitedly as if to a group of
spectral admirers] . The word choice of murmuring shows to the audience that she doesn t know
exactly what she is saying or thinking giving the effect that she is insane, not just messing around.
This leads to further conflict in this scene as Stanley walks in and begins to pick apart Blanche s lies
and stories she has told him about the millionaire. After Stanley has done with eating away at Blanche
s tales, he proceeds to rape her. The stage direction [...as he waits between BLANCHE and the outer

Analysis Of Louise Erdrich s A Healthy Way Essay
Louise Erdrich s Tracks occurs in the 1910s, in the midst of anti Native racism and government
sanctioned Indian boarding schools. The characters in Tracks must reconcile with their Native
American culture while also facing the constant threat to their culture. The characters in Tracks
attempt to understand and accept their cultural identities in a country doomed with racial tensions.
Napush is an example of a character who is able to positively accept his Native American identity in a
healthy way, while Pauline is an example of a character who is unable to accept her Native American
identity and reacts negatively to it. Nanapush and Pauline both come to terms with the anti Native
racism they encounter in drastically different ways. On one hand, Nanapush does not feel tempted by
the white culture that surrounds him. He actively attempts to embrace his Ojibwe identity, despite the
white culture that surrounds him. He can see the value in preserving his Native American heritage. In
contrast, Pauline actively rejects her Ojibwe identity in favor of attempting to create a new, white
identity for herself. She uses her highly religious nature to try and separate herself from her Native
American identity.
The racism and anti Native culture that surrounds Pauline eventually breaks her down and makes her
believe that she must become white. She even starts to believe that she must kill her inner Native
identity so that she can finally be accepted as a member of the white community.

The Human Body is An Example of Amazing Efficiency Essay
The way our body works is an amazing thing. Millions of different actions come together so that our
bodies can function the way that they do. If you really think about it, it is amazing how we can survive
day to day. There are certain laws and forces that are the reason behind the human body can function
as efficiently as it does. Gas laws help us understand certain aspects of human anatomy such as
pressure. Laplace s Law is one gas law that helps explain distending pressures within the body. Terry
Jardins explained in his book, Cardiopulmonary Anatomy Physiology Essentials of respiratory care
that Laplace s law describes how the distending pressure of a liquid bubble is influenced by (1) the
surface tension of the bubble and (2) the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We can apply this to respiratory therapy because in cases of pulmonary edema, the greater the pressure
of the liquid the greater the force inside the alveoli will be. This could lead to collapse of the alveoli
(Gardenhire). As stated previously the human anatomy is an amazing and complex work of art.
Laplace s law helps us to understand just a small part of how the human body works. It is now
understood that Laplace s law can be applied to the lungs because the alveoli are in constant contact
causing them to have only one surface area. Also in the case of pulmonary edema, the pressure of the
liquid outside of the alveoli will cause greater pressure within the alveoli which can cause then to
collapse.
Summary
In our Anatomy textbook Laplace s law describes how the distending pressure of a liquid bubble is
influenced by (1) the surface tension of the bubble and (2) the size of the bubble itself. If the sphere
only has one liquid gas interface then the equation is written as P= 2ST/r .In this equation P represents
the pressure difference which will be measured in dynes/cm2. ST will be the variable for surface
tension and will also be measured in dynes/cm2. R equals the radius and will be measured in
centimeters. Our Pharmacology textbook describes it a little differently by saying that Laplace s law
the physical principle describing and quantifying the relationship between the internal pressure of

The Need to Support and Assist Employees
Throughout our career, we have been taught to check our personal problems at the door prior to
starting our work shift. In other words, personal problems are exactly what it is, personal , and have no
place in a work environment. In today s new economy, organizations are realizing the importance of
providing assistance to employees dealing with major personal problems. At times, when an employee
is having a personal problem at home, it can after their work performance and can potentially disrupt
the work flow of the organization. Industrial and labor relations experts talk of a changing labor force
and the need for employers to develop new polices in response to the changing needs of their
employees, if they wish to remain competitive in an increasingly world economy (Kamerman Kahn,
1987, p. 2). I personally believe that employers should provide assistance and be supportive of their
employees. Unfortunately many of us in the work force are presented with personal problems that are
unforeseen. Organizations need to be open minded in regards to these isolated issues and provide
support during the employee s difficult time. Emotions play a critical role in the success of every
organization, yet many people in key decision making positions, leaders with outstanding technical
skills, fail to understand the role emotions play in a work setting (Reece, Brandt, Howie, 2011, p.
190). My current employer, MetroHealth Medical Center, offers their employees and the

Unknown Blood Cells Lab Report
Introduction When foreign antigens enter the body, chemical signals are dispatched to different parts
of the immune system and send it into action. B lymphocytes produce the antigen specific antibodies.
The antibodies will then attach to the antigen/virus and T lymphocytes will attack the antigen that the
antibody has bound itself to. Once the antigen has been eliminated phagocytes, which are cells that
absorb bacteria and other small particles/substances, will come through and absorb the remains of the
antigen/infection. In a forensic setting antibodies can also be used to identify an unknown
blood/protein. The purpose of this experiment is to use the process of immunoprecipitation to identify

Analysis Of O Leary s Cow To Blame For The 1871 Chicago Fire
For over 100 years a cow has been blamed for the 1871 Chicago fire. It s simply not true. There is a
myth that the O Leary s cow knocked over a lit lantern in their barn and caused the fire but there is
another cause for the fire. Before the fire there was about 109,000 people. Then after the fire there was
an estimate of 1,000,000 people when they rebuilt the new city ( Before and After the Fire: Chicago in
the 1860s, 1870s, and 1880s ). The 1871 Chicago Fire not only resulted in multiple fatalities, it also
destroyed the city. It created a huge/life changing fire in Chicago. Many people think a cow started the

Civil Rights And Social Integration Of African Americans
During the 20th century there were numerous riots, protests, and boycotts fighting for the equality and
social integration of African Americans. Some of the stories of individuals endeavoring for their
freedom have gone down in history resulting in laws being altered, regulations being revised, and
unimaginable boundaries being broken. Sadly, in order to establish justice in this world, violence and
death usually occur due to conflicting ideals. In Southern Los Angeles, even after African Americans
were issued their Civil Rights, underlying racism constructed barriers such as racial restrictive
covenants that ensured that blacks were still not welcome there. The two biggest social disturbances
that have taken place in the West have taken place in Los Angeles where unemployment,
overcrowding, poverty, and segregation have become increasingly prevalent. The first of these social
disturbances is the Rodney King riot of 1992 and the second is the Watts riot of 1965. The racial
bigotry, which was backed by the racial restrictive covenants and racial discrimination of LAPD
throughout Southern Los Angeles; as well as the events that sparked the Rodney King riot and the
Watts riot; clearly illustrate the racial segregation and the overall struggle that African Americans
faced during the 20th century. Between 1910 and 1920 in what is commonly known as the Great

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This case is about how a company should allocate costs. Mr. Delaney is the owner of an automobile
dealership that is profitable but not profitable in the area of the body shop department.. The
predicament that he faces is that he needs to figure out how to allocate the costs among his different
profit centers. One of the things that Mr. Delaney did in trying to assist himself was to hire a
consultant. The consultant was one that is very competent in analyzing the issues of cost, both fixed,
variable and semivariable. He then tried to relate his knowledge to help Mr. Delaney in his dilemma.

2.
Mr. Delaney would be doing himself a disservice if his prices were not in line with the rest of his
competitors. Unless he could retain a profit margin equal to his competitors with lower prices I think
he should raise them to industry standard.
3.
The action Mr. Delaney should take should be the one that is most in line with his goals, mission and
vision for the company. It seems as if he wants to retain the level of service for the buck he is giving
his customers so I think he feels comfortable doing this and that is what he should do. I also think he
should increase prices slowly if it is warranted by the industry and at the same time try to reduce the
costs associated with the body shop to increase profit margin for that department.
Conclusions/Recommendations
This case brought to light the importance of allocating the costs of a company to the correct
departments and the benefits of doing so in the analysis of each department.
The consultant seemed to make a recommendation based upon inaccurate cost allocations and a lack
of analysis of the prices of competitors.
What Mr. Delaney should do is to get an accurate system in which he could allocate costs accurately
to the proper department. Do the analysis which is needed based on accurate cost allocation and then
make his decision after he gets a report on actual prices in the industry for the

Essay on Treatment of Women in Jack Kerouac’s On The Road
The Treatment of Women in On The Road
The women in Jack Kerouac s On The Road were, it seems, not afforded the same depth in character
which the author gave the men. The treatment of the women characters in both word and action by Sal
and Dean seems to show that women could only be a virgin/mother figure or a whore. Throughout the
novel there are many instances in which women and their feelings or actions are either referred to
flippantly or blatantly degraded. It can be said, however, that Sal (Kerouac) did not necessarily agree
with this narrow female identity, and there is evidence to support this claim. The novel also shows
though that Sal did participate in this male forced female stereotyping whether he ... Show more

So, in consequence, there are many instances of the diminishment of the female identity. These can be
seen in the novels treatment of the female characters like Marylou, Sal s Aunt, and Terry. Marylou is
repeatedly talked about, not talked to. In the part in which Dean wishes Sal to sleep with Marylou the
only dialogue that goes on is either Sal s or Dean s. Marylou has no lines. All she really has is a little
go ahead . That is all and that really does not even imply cooperation; only coercion like go ahead and
You do Your thing to me . Dean is flippantly wanting Marylou to sleep with his friend with little
regard to anything she feels. She is a women, and, what is more to Dean she is a whore so of course
she will sleep with Sal. To Sal s credit though he does ask what she wants or thinks from the start but
this sudden care seems to arise due to his own nervousness and insecurities not any kind of genuine
feeling for Marylou. Her identity as seen through the eyes of men would fall into the whore stereotype
of women. This is the exact opposite from Sal s Aunt. The most apparent treatment of Sal s Aunt as
something less than an equal comes at the end of part one. Sal has just returned from his first trip west.
He is tired. He has been starving for three days now and of course eats everything in the house. Then
his Aunt s few extensive lines in the entire novel occur, and in a decidedly motherly fashion she says
Poor little Salvatore . She has fulfilled Sal s

Tension And Suspense In Antigone And The Handmaid s Tale
Taboos and forbidden behaviors within novels and pieces of literature help the authors capture the
audience s attention by creating tension and a sense of suspense. Novels and plays both portray the
same ideas through this creation of suspense. Antigone, an ancient Greek play written by Greek
tragedian Sophocles and the famous dystopian novel, The Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood are
both forms of literature that use tension and suspense in this context. Their messages of oppression of
communities captivate and engage the reader into reading further. In both an engaging topic includes
the moral behaviors, ethics and morality in Greece one and a half millennia. In Antigonon the whole
burial issue becomes a big deal and the consequences many different conflicts making audiences feels
suspense and keep them on the edge of their seats. In the Handmaid s Tale a core issue revolves
around strong ethics on use of a sex slave to satisfy the sex drive of an individual, and the expected
role of a handmaid in the time that they lived. Even today sex slavery is a serious issue in the middle
east, Europe and in Africa and often still remain as a taboo subject.
Moral behaviors, including taboos that are even are priority conflict areas in the modern world are
highlighted in Margaret Atwood s created society. For example Gilead behaves in ways to increase
tensions in the stories. Readers are therefore captivated by drawing them in to see the morals and the
ethical values that they hold

Pip Quotes In Great Expectations
Despite any controversy over Dickens style, most agree that Great Expectations is his best book. The
story, while set in the early part of the 1800s, was written in 1860 during the Victorian era that began
with the crowning of Queen Victoria in 1837 and lasted until her death in 1901. Virtues emphasized at
that time included integrity, respectability, a sense of public duty, and maintaining a close knit family.
Phillip Pirip is nicknamed Pip, a word commonly used to describe the seed of an apple. From early
childhood well into adulthood, Pip s budding maturity is the focus of the novel. In keeping with the
Bildungsroman genre, Pip is at first an innocent young child whose place in this world hasn t been
defined. He is an orphan whose only sister finds him a bother and a burden; she resents him to the
point of cruelty. In true Bildungsroman fashion, the hero must become unsatisfied with his life and his
place in society. The visits to Miss Havisham are the motivation for this discontent. Estella s disgust
for everything common introduces Pip to shame and embarrassment over his family and his
appearance. He becomes obsessed with uncommon ness and the want to overcome his position in
order to impress Estella. The inheritance he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Living Dead
The introduction of zombies into this world has led many people to want to know about their
appearance, behavior, and weaknesses. Zombies are one of the most well known creatures in the world
today. Many people believe they are just a myth, but others have concluded that they are real. Fiction
or not, zombies are interesting enough to make people want to learn more about them.
The belief in zombies originated in the Haitian culture. The Haitians strongly believed in witchcraft
and Voodoo magic. They assumed that priests called bokors could turn a person into a zombie with a
powder containing a deadly poison. Several people would hire bokors to turn a person into a zombie if
they did not like him ( Zombies ). Bokors often turned the deceased into zombies if the person broke a
law during his lifetime. Zombies were also created for slavery. Being turned into a zombie was
considered a harsh punishment to receive. Although the Haitians concluded that zombies were real,
many other countries suspected that zombies were just a myth (Radford).
Although zombies are formed from dead humans, they have hardly any similarities in appearance. A
zombie s face consists of the same characteristics as a human s, but a zombie s skin has become ruined
due to decomposition. Their eyes appear to be much different once they have become a zombie. Their
pupils are shaded white. Zombies are also different from humans in the way they maneuver. While
humans normally move very easily, zombies have a

Superman Cannot Always Save The Day
Superman Cannot Always Save the Day According to the results of standardized tests across America,
public schooling systems are not always efficient in educating their students to their fullest capability.
When we think about corruption in public schools, we think about schools in lower income areas such
as Chicago Heights or any other major cities that are in the rougher areas of the city. The documentary
focuses on those stereotypical schools for their setting. In the film Waiting for Superman created by
Davis Guggenheim, the documentary exposes the overall fraudulency of the public school systems
across the United States and uncovers the actual ways that certain teachers act and how they partake in
educating their students. The interactive use of pop culture animations and silence in the documentary
illustrates the discussion of the school s corruption in the documentary for the audience to better
understand. Not only does the documentary target the underperforming public schools, it digs deeper
into the actual teachers within the failing districts. Undetermined teachers are one of the major causes
of a failing school. Without properly educated students, the test standards are not met, which means
insufficient funds towards that district. Consequently, the teachers are not driven thanks to tenure they
can sit back, relax, and collect their paycheck without doing efficient work. In Waiting for Superman,
there is a very popular cartoon animation from the television show

Diet to High Risk Patients For the Prevention or Treatment of Non Communicable or Chronic
Diseases?
David Arthur, MS, PA S
The term non communicable disease refers to set of chronic, slowly progressing, long duration
illnesses that are not infectious and are responsible for more deaths globally than any other cause.1 In
2011, in most high and middle income countries, non communicable diseases were responsible for
more deaths than all other causes combined.1 These same chronic diseases are also referred to as
lifestyle diseases by some practitioners, as they are recognized as having lifestyle choice as primary
risk factors, and possibly, treatment modalities centered around lifestyle modification.2 The four
primary non communicable diseases, as identified by the World Health Organization, are
cardiovascular disease, malignant neoplasm, respiratory disease, and diabetes mellitus.3 The power of
lifestyle choices to effectively address some of the most vexing chronic diseases of our time is well
established.4 Adherence to four healthy lifestyle tenets not smoking, not being obese, getting at least
thirty minutes of moderate activity per day, and eating a diet consisting primarily of vegetables, fruit,
and whole grains, may have the net effect of addressing the primary sources of disease and death in
western society.4 Strictly adhering to each of these healthy lifestyle choices

Regency Gentlemen Amusements Essay
Regency Gentlemen Amusements
The Regency Era, generally referring to the time period of 1800 1820, was undeniably a time of
pleasure seeking and over indulgence. The Regency era represented a time when the current ruler, mad
King George III, was incapable of performing his royal duties. Due to his madness, the King s son the
Prince of Wales, a Regent and heir to the throne, was appointed to govern. The Prince of Wales was
designated Regent in 1811 (Channel4). During this era people of the upper class had a great deal of
leisure time, and their major task seemed to be to entertain themselves. Some of the more popular
amusements of rich and fashionable Regency gentlemen were boxing, cockfighting, and ... Show more

The competition was not finished until one man lay unconscious, and this often took hours (channel
4). Despite the popularity of boxing, cockfighting was still considered to be the period s most
widespread sport.
Cockfighting ranged across all social classes. Tournaments were held between gentlemen, often
geographically based with one area playing another. The cockpits were a common place where all
social classes gathered to place bets and watch the match. Although even the smallest town had a
cockpit, Regency gentlemen were known to hold contests at their own estate. This pastime was a
common practice and even influenced furniture makers to offer cockfighting chairs (GI).
Unlike bare knuckle bouts between people, cocks were precisely paired by weight in all the more
heavily staked cockfights. Human training was elementary when compared to the training of
gamecock. The cocks often had bone or metal spurs strapped over the birds beak to insure a fight to
the death. Cockfighting began to diminish in England only after The Royal Society for Cruelty to
Animals began to bring actions in the late 1830s, based on an 1835 Act against animal cruelty (GI).
With boxing and cockfighting s growing interest, both created an obsession with gambling.

Chris Gardner s Ethos In The Pursuit Of Happyness
The ethos in this film was discreetly implemented so the audience could carefully follow along the
film to discover and trust in Chris Gardner s ambition. It is only going through the entire film do we
see that Chris had what it took all along. Rhetoric in a film is of utmost importance that without valid
justification for what is occurring in the screen, the film can become confusing unless there is some
degree of logos. In the Pursuit of Happyness the theme of hopelessness effects the logos of the film.
Poverty is an issue which is brought up throughout the film and in order to believe that hardships one
goes through if they are not financially stable is very common to other s experiences. The first
instance of logos occurs during

Tax Reform Persuasive Speech
It amazes me to sit before parliament and witness the ignorance among my fellow noblemen, bishops,
knights, and burgesses who seem to rightfully believe the best course of action for England to take, is
to increase taxes in order to sustain a military buildup. We are some of the most well educated
individuals of this kingdom, yet many of you are so caught up in your own petulance, that you fail to
realize just how unrealizable this legislation is. England s defenses are well kept, and have proven
time and time again to be able to withstand foreign aggression. Rather than focusing on tax reform
that would only harm the hard working laborers of this nation, we should instead focus our efforts
towards maintaining low tax rates for these individuals while we continue to revive our economy.
There are few in this nation who could healthy support and pay for this tax, especially after the rise of
enclosures in 1517. The only way to do this is to underwrite princely ambition, for passion is a
dangerous trait which more often than not leads us astray from what is truly important. The current
state of England s defense is more than optimal. We have numerous castles which have withstood the
brunt of invasion and protected our great nations. Take Dover for example which overlooks the
English Channel, and the Strait of Dover. God has graced us with ... Show more content on

We should not be motivated by fear, but by God. For if war were truly to break out, our fortifications
will be rendered useless if we are not in the Lord s favor, no amount of money can save us from his
glorious wrath. And the Lord certainly does not favor those who are motivated by temporal goods.
Peace is far more beneficial than the spoils of war, and the rewards are far greater than simply by
glory and extension of territory. England is safe as long as her prince holds himself in a virtuous light

  • 2. The Social Hierarchy Of Jane Eyre By Charlotte Bronte In Charlotte Bronte s novel, Jane Eyre, Bronte seemingly condemns the existing social hierarchy. Not only are the characters who are most concerned with the allure of fortune and rank portrayed as either deceitful or unethical, but even characters who ve accepted their means of poverty and demonstrate honest moral natures are mocked. Rather than use the normal class structures, the book suggests that a person of impoverished means can be viewed as socially respectable with the condition that they maintain a sincere desire to better both oneself and their means of living. The novel highlights the significance of class consciousness and how one particular class can become subjective to the hands of the dogmatic elites. The derogative attitudes regarding social class first occurs when Jane suffers horrible treatment from John Reed. He violently torments Jane and constantly reminds her that she is an orphan and a dependent of the Reed family, forcing into her mind that to be without a class is to be without worth. He imposes fear into Jane and reminding her that he is the superior being. You have no business to take our books; you are a dependent, mamma says; you have no money; your father left you none; you ought to beg, and not to live here with gentlemen s children like us, and eat the same meals we do, and wear clothes at our mamma s expense. Now, I ll teach you to rummage my book shelves: for they are mine; all the house belongs to me, or will do in a few years. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Tensile Of Tensile Test The tensile test is a standout amongst the most normally utilized tests for assessing materials. The tensile test is done just by grasping inverse finishes of test thing and applying elastic power with the machine. This outcomes in continuous stretching and consequent fracture in the test thing. During this procedure, power expansion information normally are checked and recorded. Malleable test measures properties like extreme rigidity and most extreme stretching specifically simultaneously, utilizing these estimations different properties, for example, Young s Modulus, Poisson s proportion and yield quality can likewise be resolved. At the point when appropriately directed, the pliable test results power expansion information that can measure a few vital mechanical properties of a material. The ductile test led for this paper is done in room temperature under the ISO 6892 1 standard. 4.6 Sheet Metal Cutting Methods For conducting a tensile test, the sheet metals will be cut from cold formed metal sheet by various cutting techniques. Regular techniques for cutting sheet metal will be explored. Reviewed techniques are metal stamping/blanking, water plane cutting and wire electrical release machine cutting. 4.6.1 Wire Electric Discharge Machine Wire EDM is not the new child on the block. • 5. Nt1310 Unit 2 Paper b. Protein intake and DRI RDA From my longhand calculation sheet, my protein RDA goal based on 0.8 g protein/kg body weight was 43.9 g/day, which is slightly lower than my 3 day average intake which was 45.08 g. According to these values, I am not concerned about my protein intake value because protein is not a major source of energy and it does not store in the body. As a result, for me, maintaining the similar amount of protein intake is a better choice. If the protein are over consumed, it might leads to the deficiency of nutrient dense foods intake and increase potential risks of kidney disease and colon cancer (Hammond, 2016b). On the other hand, if we consume too less protein, the risks of malnutrition and life threatened diseases such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I am concerned about potassium intake because it plays an important role in regulating heartbeat, lowering blood volume and blood pressure (Hammond, 2016d). The lack of potassium intake will lead to irregular heartbeat and life threatened diseases such as hypokalemia (Hammond, 2016d). In order to increase my potassium consumption, animal foods and plant foods especial fresh vegetable and fruit are needed (Hammond, 2016d). Zinc: My intake value of zinc was 5.59 mg, while the DRI value 8.00 mg. This result should be concerned because Zinc acts as cofactors to protect from oxidative damage (Hammond, 2016f). Also, the symptoms of lacking Zinc includes diarrhea, slow wound healing, damaged digestive system and so on (Hammond, 2016h). Therefore, it is important to maintain a normal intake level of Zinc. Sodium: My 3 day average sodium intake value was 1831.68 mg, and it is higher than the DRI value of 1500.00 mg. Although over consumed sodium (~ 3400 mg/day) can cause hypernatremia and hypertension, it posts a low risk for healthy people (Hammond, 2016d). The averaging about 4 feet (1.2m) in height, goldenrod is a perennial with clusters of bright yellow flowers. It has been used for centuries in the treatment of kidney stones, urinary tract infections, a variety of other medical condition. Moreover, based on the result that have been collected, the Goldenrod stem was thinner than the normal ones also by a factor of whether there was a gall or not on the plants. The presence of a gall did not significantly affect final stem height but did slow the growth of ramets during the period of most rapid gall growth. • 9. Peter Olson s Ceramic Art It is not unusual for ceramicists to employ photography as a means of documenting their works, yet Philadelphia based artist Peter Olson s method of incorporating these two media on his exquisite clay creations is arguably previously unseen. In each of his work, the artist cleverly unfolds a pleasant surprise. As the audience closely examines Olson s signature kaleidoscopic surface decoration which bears a resemblance to motifs found on Islamic artifacts and Greek vessels, images of modern streets and people appear where floral design and mythological beings are expected to be. Photo Ceramica is a refreshing meld of photography and ceramic art; the works showcased in the show represent nothing less than the best of both worlds. More than 40 pieces, including bowls, marionettes, tiles, and large urns takes over the 3,200 square feet gallery space at The American Museum of Ceramic Art (AMOCA). • 10. The Mexican War Of Argentina Throughout Argentina and as well other Central American countries during that of the late 1970 s, many were going through severe political upheaval. This political catastrophe coupled with various human rights violations pushed many people to the edge and out of their homeland. Economically drained and scared for their lives Argentines sought freedom and asylum within the United States. For many this was the start of something new in a foreign country with people that speak a foreign language. Courage and bravery those are two words that in my eyes describe an immigrant that has been forced to endure so much that they leave everything they had ever known. The Dirty War of Argentina caused families to be ripped apart and people to vanish as if they had never existed. This horrendous stretch in Argentine history showcased various human rights violations, corrupt leaders, United States backed coup, death and a need for reform in a country that was broken and dismayed. The Argentine Dirty War was a deadly tumultuous war that struck the country sort of by surprise forcing many to abandon their homeland. It all started with Isabel Peron becoming the first female president of Argentina after her husband was forced out due to illness where he received around the clock care. Although there were many Peronist supporters in favor of her rule, there was a growing insurgency to overthrow her corrupt regime. • 14. The Theme Of Antisemitism In Night Of Surrender I think Night of Surrender serves to showcase the difficulty Holocaust survivors faced when attempting to transition back into the regular world. This tension faced by all Jewish survivors after World War 2 is the central theme of the story. We see the female protagonist struggle with trying to find happiness after staying relatively safe during the Holocaust. I should be happy to have survived, but I wasn t happy, and I was upset to be so sad (Fink 93). The woman cannot seem to escape her past even on such a celebratory night the night of the surrender. She goes on to reveal herself as Jewish and talks about her struggle with her significant other Mike, saying Do you know what it means to live in fear, lying, never speaking your own language. Or thinking with your own brain, or looking with your own eyes? (Fink 100). I think Fink is showing us that it s easy to think liberation brought about pure happiness for the Jewish people which enabled them to live happy fulfilling lives, however many were hurt emotionally beyond repair by the Nazi regime. What most startles me about this piece is the idea that even after the war people felt as if they had to hide their Jewish faith out of fear of Antisemitism. I liked how this story showcased the different viewpoints on Judaism during the time. While Antisemitism thrived in Europe, Mike who was an American didn t seem to care at all that Ann was Jewish. • 16. Theme Of Stanley In A Streetcar Named Desire In A Streetcar Named Desire , the characters of Blanche and Stanley are presented as opposing characters in the book, and hence a lot of conflict and friction occurs between them. The character of Blanche is an older character, from a rather wealthy background and lives in a fantasy world in which she is still young and hasn t faced the truth. The character of Stanley, however, is a more realistic and primitive character and can be viewed as Blanche s opposite. Throughout the play, there is a constant battle between Blanche and Stanley for Stella. The word choice of murmuring shows to the audience that she doesn t know exactly what she is saying or thinking giving the effect that she is insane, not just messing around. • 17. Analysis Of Louise Erdrich s A Healthy Way Essay Louise Erdrich s Tracks occurs in the 1910s, in the midst of anti Native racism and government sanctioned Indian boarding schools. The characters in Tracks must reconcile with their Native American culture while also facing the constant threat to their culture. The characters in Tracks attempt to understand and accept their cultural identities in a country doomed with racial tensions. Napush is an example of a character who is able to positively accept his Native American identity in a healthy way, while Pauline is an example of a character who is unable to accept her Native American identity and reacts negatively to it. Nanapush and Pauline both come to terms with the anti Native racism they encounter in drastically different ways. On one hand, Nanapush does not feel tempted by the white culture that surrounds him. He actively attempts to embrace his Ojibwe identity, despite the white culture that surrounds him. He can see the value in preserving his Native American heritage. In contrast, Pauline actively rejects her Ojibwe identity in favor of attempting to create a new, white identity for herself. She uses her highly religious nature to try and separate herself from her Native American identity. The racism and anti Native culture that surrounds Pauline eventually breaks her down and makes her believe that she must become white. She even starts to believe that she must kill her inner Native identity so that she can finally be accepted as a member of the white community. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. The Human Body is An Example of Amazing Efficiency Essay The way our body works is an amazing thing. Millions of different actions come together so that our bodies can function the way that they do. If you really think about it, it is amazing how we can survive day to day. There are certain laws and forces that are the reason behind the human body can function as efficiently as it does. Gas laws help us understand certain aspects of human anatomy such as pressure. Laplace s Law is one gas law that helps explain distending pressures within the body. Terry Jardins explained in his book, Cardiopulmonary Anatomy Physiology Essentials of respiratory care that Laplace s law describes how the distending pressure of a liquid bubble is influenced by (1) the surface tension of the bubble and (2) the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We can apply this to respiratory therapy because in cases of pulmonary edema, the greater the pressure of the liquid the greater the force inside the alveoli will be. This could lead to collapse of the alveoli (Gardenhire). As stated previously the human anatomy is an amazing and complex work of art. Laplace s law helps us to understand just a small part of how the human body works. It is now understood that Laplace s law can be applied to the lungs because the alveoli are in constant contact causing them to have only one surface area. Also in the case of pulmonary edema, the pressure of the liquid outside of the alveoli will cause greater pressure within the alveoli which can cause then to collapse. Summary In our Anatomy textbook Laplace s law describes how the distending pressure of a liquid bubble is influenced by (1) the surface tension of the bubble and (2) the size of the bubble itself. If the sphere only has one liquid gas interface then the equation is written as P= 2ST/r .In this equation P represents the pressure difference which will be measured in dynes/cm2. ST will be the variable for surface tension and will also be measured in dynes/cm2. R equals the radius and will be measured in centimeters. Our Pharmacology textbook describes it a little differently by saying that Laplace s law the physical principle describing and quantifying the relationship between the internal pressure of ... At times, when an employee is having a personal problem at home, it can after their work performance and can potentially disrupt the work flow of the organization. Industrial and labor relations experts talk of a changing labor force and the need for employers to develop new polices in response to the changing needs of their employees, if they wish to remain competitive in an increasingly world economy (Kamerman Kahn, 1987, p. 2). I personally believe that employers should provide assistance and be supportive of their employees. Unfortunately many of us in the work force are presented with personal problems that are unforeseen. Organizations need to be open minded in regards to these isolated issues and provide support during the employee s difficult time. Emotions play a critical role in the success of every organization, yet many people in key decision making positions, leaders with outstanding technical skills, fail to understand the role emotions play in a work setting (Reece, Brandt, Howie, 2011, p. 190). B lymphocytes produce the antigen specific antibodies. The antibodies will then attach to the antigen/virus and T lymphocytes will attack the antigen that the antibody has bound itself to. Once the antigen has been eliminated phagocytes, which are cells that absorb bacteria and other small particles/substances, will come through and absorb the remains of the antigen/infection. In a forensic setting antibodies can also be used to identify an unknown blood/protein. There is a myth that the O Leary s cow knocked over a lit lantern in their barn and caused the fire but there is another cause for the fire. Before the fire there was about 109,000 people. Then after the fire there was an estimate of 1,000,000 people when they rebuilt the new city ( Before and After the Fire: Chicago in the 1860s, 1870s, and 1880s ). The 1871 Chicago Fire not only resulted in multiple fatalities, it also destroyed the city. It created a huge/life changing fire in Chicago. • 23. Civil Rights And Social Integration Of African Americans During the 20th century there were numerous riots, protests, and boycotts fighting for the equality and social integration of African Americans. Some of the stories of individuals endeavoring for their freedom have gone down in history resulting in laws being altered, regulations being revised, and unimaginable boundaries being broken. Sadly, in order to establish justice in this world, violence and death usually occur due to conflicting ideals. In Southern Los Angeles, even after African Americans were issued their Civil Rights, underlying racism constructed barriers such as racial restrictive covenants that ensured that blacks were still not welcome there. The two biggest social disturbances that have taken place in the West have taken place in Los Angeles where unemployment, overcrowding, poverty, and segregation have become increasingly prevalent. The first of these social disturbances is the Rodney King riot of 1992 and the second is the Watts riot of 1965. The racial bigotry, which was backed by the racial restrictive covenants and racial discrimination of LAPD throughout Southern Los Angeles; as well as the events that sparked the Rodney King riot and the Watts riot; clearly illustrate the racial segregation and the overall struggle that African Americans faced during the 20th century. Between 1910 and 1920 in what is commonly known as the Great Migration among 300,000 and 1,000,000 African Americans made their way toward northern cities to try and escape the ... Unless he could retain a profit margin equal to his competitors with lower prices I think he should raise them to industry standard. 3. The action Mr. Delaney should take should be the one that is most in line with his goals, mission and vision for the company. It seems as if he wants to retain the level of service for the buck he is giving his customers so I think he feels comfortable doing this and that is what he should do. I also think he should increase prices slowly if it is warranted by the industry and at the same time try to reduce the costs associated with the body shop to increase profit margin for that department. • 26. Essay on Treatment of Women in Jack Kerouac’s On The Road The Treatment of Women in On The Road The women in Jack Kerouac s On The Road were, it seems, not afforded the same depth in character which the author gave the men. The treatment of the women characters in both word and action by Sal and Dean seems to show that women could only be a virgin/mother figure or a whore. Throughout the novel there are many instances in which women and their feelings or actions are either referred to flippantly or blatantly degraded. It can be said, however, that Sal (Kerouac) did not necessarily agree with this narrow female identity, and there is evidence to support this claim. The novel also shows though that Sal did participate in this male forced female stereotyping whether he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, in consequence, there are many instances of the diminishment of the female identity. These can be seen in the novels treatment of the female characters like Marylou, Sal s Aunt, and Terry. Marylou is repeatedly talked about, not talked to. In the part in which Dean wishes Sal to sleep with Marylou the only dialogue that goes on is either Sal s or Dean s. Marylou has no lines. All she really has is a little go ahead . That is all and that really does not even imply cooperation; only coercion like go ahead and You do Your thing to me . Dean is flippantly wanting Marylou to sleep with his friend with little regard to anything she feels. She is a women, and, what is more to Dean she is a whore so of course she will sleep with Sal. To Sal s credit though he does ask what she wants or thinks from the start but this sudden care seems to arise due to his own nervousness and insecurities not any kind of genuine feeling for Marylou. Her identity as seen through the eyes of men would fall into the whore stereotype of women. This is the exact opposite from Sal s Aunt. The most apparent treatment of Sal s Aunt as something less than an equal comes at the end of part one. Sal has just returned from his first trip west. He is tired. He has been starving for three days now and of course eats everything in the house. Then his Aunt s few extensive lines in the entire novel occur, and in a decidedly motherly fashion she says Poor little Salvatore . She has fulfilled Sal s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Tension And Suspense In Antigone And The Handmaid s Tale Taboos and forbidden behaviors within novels and pieces of literature help the authors capture the audience s attention by creating tension and a sense of suspense. Novels and plays both portray the same ideas through this creation of suspense. Antigone, an ancient Greek play written by Greek tragedian Sophocles and the famous dystopian novel, The Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood are both forms of literature that use tension and suspense in this context. Their messages of oppression of communities captivate and engage the reader into reading further. In both an engaging topic includes the moral behaviors, ethics and morality in Greece one and a half millennia. In Antigonon the whole burial issue becomes a big deal and the consequences many different conflicts making audiences feels suspense and keep them on the edge of their seats. In the Handmaid s Tale a core issue revolves around strong ethics on use of a sex slave to satisfy the sex drive of an individual, and the expected role of a handmaid in the time that they lived. Even today sex slavery is a serious issue in the middle east, Europe and in Africa and often still remain as a taboo subject. Moral behaviors, including taboos that are even are priority conflict areas in the modern world are highlighted in Margaret Atwood s created society. • 28. Pip Quotes In Great Expectations Despite any controversy over Dickens style, most agree that Great Expectations is his best book. The story, while set in the early part of the 1800s, was written in 1860 during the Victorian era that began with the crowning of Queen Victoria in 1837 and lasted until her death in 1901. Virtues emphasized at that time included integrity, respectability, a sense of public duty, and maintaining a close knit family. Phillip Pirip is nicknamed Pip, a word commonly used to describe the seed of an apple. From early childhood well into adulthood, Pip s budding maturity is the focus of the novel. In keeping with the Bildungsroman genre, Pip is at first an innocent young child whose place in this world hasn t been defined. He is an orphan whose only sister finds him a bother and a burden; she resents him to the point of cruelty. In true Bildungsroman fashion, the hero must become unsatisfied with his life and his place in society. The visits to Miss Havisham are the motivation for this discontent. Estella s disgust for everything common introduces Pip to shame and embarrassment over his family and his appearance. • 29. The Living Dead The introduction of zombies into this world has led many people to want to know about their appearance, behavior, and weaknesses. Zombies are one of the most well known creatures in the world today. Many people believe they are just a myth, but others have concluded that they are real. Fiction or not, zombies are interesting enough to make people want to learn more about them. The belief in zombies originated in the Haitian culture. The Haitians strongly believed in witchcraft and Voodoo magic. They assumed that priests called bokors could turn a person into a zombie with a powder containing a deadly poison. Several people would hire bokors to turn a person into a zombie if they did not like him ( Zombies ). Bokors often turned the deceased into zombies if the person broke a law during his lifetime. Zombies were also created for slavery. Being turned into a zombie was considered a harsh punishment to receive. Although the Haitians concluded that zombies were real, many other countries suspected that zombies were just a myth (Radford). Although zombies are formed from dead humans, they have hardly any similarities in appearance. A zombie s face consists of the same characteristics as a human s, but a zombie s skin has become ruined due to decomposition. Their eyes appear to be much different once they have become a zombie. Their pupils are shaded white. Zombies are also different from humans in the way they maneuver. While humans normally move very easily, zombies have a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Superman Cannot Always Save The Day Superman Cannot Always Save the Day According to the results of standardized tests across America, public schooling systems are not always efficient in educating their students to their fullest capability. When we think about corruption in public schools, we think about schools in lower income areas such as Chicago Heights or any other major cities that are in the rougher areas of the city. The documentary focuses on those stereotypical schools for their setting. In the film Waiting for Superman created by Davis Guggenheim, the documentary exposes the overall fraudulency of the public school systems across the United States and uncovers the actual ways that certain teachers act and how they partake in educating their students. The interactive use of pop culture animations and silence in the documentary illustrates the discussion of the school s corruption in the documentary for the audience to better understand. Not only does the documentary target the underperforming public schools, it digs deeper into the actual teachers within the failing districts. Undetermined teachers are one of the major causes of a failing school. Without properly educated students, the test standards are not met, which means insufficient funds towards that district. Consequently, the teachers are not driven thanks to tenure they can sit back, relax, and collect their paycheck without doing efficient work. A Plant Based Diet as a Prescriptive Measure: Should Health Care Providers Recommend A Vegan Diet to High Risk Patients For the Prevention or Treatment of Non Communicable or Chronic Diseases? David Arthur, MS, PA S The term non communicable disease refers to set of chronic, slowly progressing, long duration illnesses that are not infectious and are responsible for more deaths globally than any other cause.1 In 2011, in most high and middle income countries, non communicable diseases were responsible for more deaths than all other causes combined.1 These same chronic diseases are also referred to as lifestyle diseases by some practitioners, as they are recognized as having lifestyle choice as primary risk factors, and possibly, treatment modalities centered around lifestyle modification.2 The four primary non communicable diseases, as identified by the World Health Organization, are cardiovascular disease, malignant neoplasm, respiratory disease, and diabetes mellitus.3 The power of lifestyle choices to effectively address some of the most vexing chronic diseases of our time is well established.4 Adherence to four healthy lifestyle tenets not smoking, not being obese, getting at least thirty minutes of moderate activity per day, and eating a diet consisting primarily of vegetables, fruit, and whole grains, may have the net effect of addressing the primary sources of disease and death in western society.4 Strictly adhering to each of these healthy lifestyle choices ... Due to his madness, the King s son the Prince of Wales, a Regent and heir to the throne, was appointed to govern. The Prince of Wales was designated Regent in 1811 (Channel4). The competition was not finished until one man lay unconscious, and this often took hours (channel 4). Despite the popularity of boxing, cockfighting was still considered to be the period s most widespread sport. Cockfighting ranged across all social classes. Tournaments were held between gentlemen, often geographically based with one area playing another. The cockpits were a common place where all social classes gathered to place bets and watch the match. Although even the smallest town had a cockpit, Regency gentlemen were known to hold contests at their own estate. This pastime was a common practice and even influenced furniture makers to offer cockfighting chairs (GI). Unlike bare knuckle bouts between people, cocks were precisely paired by weight in all the more heavily staked cockfights. Human training was elementary when compared to the training of gamecock. The cocks often had bone or metal spurs strapped over the birds beak to insure a fight to the death. Cockfighting began to diminish in England only after The Royal Society for Cruelty to Animals began to bring actions in the late 1830s, based on an 1835 Act against animal cruelty (GI). With boxing and cockfighting s growing interest, both created an obsession with gambling. Gambling amongst the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tax Reform Persuasive Speech It amazes me to sit before parliament and witness the ignorance among my fellow noblemen, bishops, knights, and burgesses who seem to rightfully believe the best course of action for England to take, is to increase taxes in order to sustain a military buildup. We are some of the most well educated individuals of this kingdom, yet many of you are so caught up in your own petulance, that you fail to realize just how unrealizable this legislation is. England s defenses are well kept, and have proven time and time again to be able to withstand foreign aggression. Rather than focusing on tax reform that would only harm the hard working laborers of this nation, we should instead focus our efforts towards maintaining low tax rates for these individuals while we continue to revive our economy. There are few in this nation who could healthy support and pay for this tax, especially after the rise of enclosures in 1517. The only way to do this is to underwrite princely ambition, for passion is a dangerous trait which more often than not leads us astray from what is truly important.
