The Rabbi
Mr. J is an elderly, retired, Jewish rabbi of 78 years old. Due to a hip fracture Mr. J was admitted to the
hospital. Issues were identified during Mr. J s hospital stay, which could have been improved to make
Mr. J s stay more pleasant.
In 1994 the American Nurses Association (ANA) started the Patient Safety and Quality Initiative. It
was a pilot program designed to evaluate the links between nurse staffing and quality care (Montalvo,
2007). The program outcome was a set of nursing sensitive indicators used to evaluate quality care for
patients in the acute setting and the start of the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators
(NDNQI). The NDNQI is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ulcers are preventable with turning schedules, frequent toileting, and good nutrition. Millions of
dollars could be saved with just a few interventions and patient satisfaction would also increase.
There are things that could have been done to solve the ethical issues in Mr. J s scenario. First, the
CNA needs to be educated on what to look for when it comes to pressure areas. A protocol should be
in place in which a CNA notifies the nursing staff of any redness. In turn the nursing staff should then
follow up with a care for the patient that requires turning every two hours. Second, a local Rabbi
should be called in to educate staff on the Jewish culture and the changes in care a patient should need
if they are Jewish. Teaching on Kosher diets would be one of the aspects of the education provided to
all staff. Thirdly, all staff needs education about communication. Education about communication
should be ongoing. Communication between staff is as important as communication between staff and
patients and staff and family. The diet issue should have been brought up to management before so
that the problem could have been prevented before Mr. J became a patient. The fact that it was not
reported reflects a system change that needs to be made in the realm of communication. Lastly, there
should be a protocol as to when restraints should be used. As discussed earlier in this paper, the patient
would have benefited from a bed

Standing at the gates of Holby South prison, Serena Campbell felt numb, she still didn t know why she
was here, what possessed her to accept the visitation card, she ignored all previous ones. They had
even been a ten year gap when she did not hear from him. Yet, something triggered her to make this

It all seemed like a blur the process of booking in, having her body and belongings searched, to
putting her things in a locker. It felt like it did not happen, and as soon as she grasped a sense of
reality, she found herself stood in the visitor s room, surrounded by criminals and their loving family

Analysis of Jules Ferry s Argument on French Colonial...
Analysis of Jules Ferry s argument on French Colonial Expansion 1884
The industrial revolution was not only a time of great advancement for the west but was equally
troubling for the European countries, especially that of France. Jules Ferry, a French statesmen
recognized a need for expansion and took it upon himself to go in front of French parliament to argue
his position of the need for French colonial expansion. The arguments he made in support of his
country were of economical, humanitarian, and patriotic views.
The first of these arguments was economical in nature. Ferry felt it urgent to expand the French
colonies because he recognized a change in foreign economic strategies that would directly affect
France. He saw that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They believed that Ferry wanted to take these small underdeveloped African and Asian countries by
force and use them for colonial expansion. I don t believe that his critics liked the idea of forcing
expansion. I think that Ferry s reasoning were more humanitarian in nature. He wanted to develop and
educate these countries and by doing this for them it would create new markets for France. He also
justifies his remarks by saying that they will never become great by being do nothing people. He said
that to be great that they had to act and that the choices they made would decide how great they could
become.
Ferry s last argument was that of patriotism. Ferry was a patriot, a countryman if you will. He believed
that his country was great but could be greater. This is why his last argument was on the defense of his
country A country should be as self sufficient as possible when it comes to its national defense, and so
to compete with the military and naval expansion of rival nations it would only be logical to make a
move that would strengthen military forces. Ferry expressed a need for safe harbors, defenses, and
supply centers for naval ships. Ferry uses an example of a war ship and talks about the fact that
regardless of how perfect the war ship is designed that it cannot carry more than two week of coal.
Ferry understood that it was an essential move for strengthening and extending the reach of

Essay on Social Expectations of Women
Kimberly Griffis Eula Thompson English 101 Tues/Thurs 9:30 The Effect Social Expectations of the
Nineteenth Century Had on Women Living in That Time Period The behaviors and desires of women
the nineteenth century were impacted strongly by the social expectations of their time. Kate Chopin s
character, Louise Mallard, from The Story of an Hour , Emily Grierson from A Rose for Emily by
Willliam Faulkner, and the character Roselily from Alice Walker s Roselily are all examples of women
restricted by the time they live in. Women in the nineteenth century were expected to get married and
to take care of their husband as well as cooking, cleaning, and looking after their children. Women
were expected to put aside their dreams and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her father thought that she should be a housekeeper and never let her leave the house. Emily wanted a
family and a husband but back then marriages were more for convienence and not for love. Emily
wanted love and this kept from marrying someone she did not have feelings for. After Emily s father
died she no longer had to live up to his expectations but because he never let her leave the house she
was unfamiliar with the new, modern ideas and did not embrace them because she was so used to the
ideals her father had instilled her. Another expectation of women was that they were not to handle
money. A group of men came to Emily for taxes and she denied, saying I have no taxes in Jefferson. It
was a man s job to take care of all money transactions because they worked for the money and
because women could not buy land in the nineteenth century, taxes were left to the men. Emily kept
saying she had no taxes because she still lived up to the social expectation that women could not
handle money. In the story the ladies were gossiping about Miss Emily and one of them said Just as if
a man any man could keep a kitchen properly. It was a woman s job to keep the kitchen and the ladies
disapproved that Emily was not running her kitchen. Men and women in the nineteenth century were
raised up to get married and never take a lover. Women, and their families, were expected to go to
church, so they knew that killing was wrong. Emily broke social

Questions On Mixed Metal Oxides
2.11.3 Mixed metal oxides
Despite the advantages of individual metal oxides, their CLC performance decreased with the increase
of cycles due to the harsh CLC conditions. Therefore, the pure phase of mixed metal oxides and its
supported form were prepared from the precursors and the selected support to overcome the
limitations of individual metal oxides. The characteristics of individual metal oxides can be retained or
even enhanced by mixing of appropriate individual oxides for CLC application in terms of multi cycle
CLC performance (cost, activity, stability, mechanical strength, reduction in carbon deposition, etc.).
The mixed oxide of Fe and Mn has been developed in our lab as a possible candidate for CLC. Fe Mn
mixed oxide possesses the promise as oxygen carrier for the CLC applications due to availability of
low cost minerals precursors, relatively high OCC, stability and environmentally benign nature.
Mungse et al. reported the pure phase of iron manganese oxides (FeMnO3 and Fe3Mn3O8) that
exhibit CLOU property. It was found that Fe3Mn3O8 was reduced into FeMnO3 at higher
temperatures. Fe3O4 and MnO were observed as reduced products after methane combustion reaction
of FeMnO3 [25]. Nickel manganese oxides were also prepared for methane conversion [50].
CoO NiO oxides were prepared as mixed oxide based oxygen carrier, however, the reaction rate was
lower than that of its individual oxides due to the formation of a solid solution of NiCoO2. However,
carbon deposition was

High Intensity Interval Training ( H.i ) Essay
Acute: sharp or severe in effect; intense
Conjugated: joined together, esp. in a pair or pairs; coupled
There are tons of articles trumpeting the benefits of high intensity interval training (H.I.I.T.), making
claims of accelerated fat loss and increased heart function when compared to steady state cardio.
There are tons more articles espousing the benefits of high intensity weight training for these same
goals as well as increased bone density. Literally, there are tons. I ve printed them out and weighed
them all.
Luckily for you, I also read all of those articles I found and I ve come to the conclusion that they re
onto something. H.I.I.T. is much better for most individuals overall health and fitness than long
endurance type cardio sessions. Weight training builds bones, just like milk was supposed to. Both
forms of exercise affect the hormonal system positively, eliciting a post exercise response that uses a
substantial amount of energy from optimal sources throughout the day. This is the basis of A.C.T., or
Acute Conjugated Training.
Benefits of High Intensity Exercise
Before I tell you about A.C.T., let s get a brief review of the benefits of both high intensity resistance
and interval training. Below is a non comprehensive list of clinical evaluations that show the many
benefits of high intensity exercise:

Hurricane Katrina Ethical Issues
Hurricane Katrina was one of the most deadliest natural disasters in the history of the United States of
America. At least 1,245 people in the hurricane and subsequent flooding. In reading the excerpt from
Five Days at Memorial: Life and Death in a Storm Ravaged Hospital by Sheri Fink, there are certain
ethical and legal issues that arise and ones that holds all those medical and health professionals
accountable for their actions. Dr. Ana Pou was one of the head doctors who took a leadership role at
Memorial Hospital after the backup generators had failed and the rescue teams were few and far
between. A team of medical personnel which included Dr. Pou had categorized the remaining patients
into an evacuating category. They felt that the most sick patients would be evacuated last because of
available resources and essentially decided who would live and who would die. Dr. Pou denies her
actions and states that she did what she felt was the right thing to do? But as Sherri Finks poses the
question in her article where is the line between comfort care and mercy killings .
In the Code of Ethics for Nurses provision 4 states The nurse has authority, accountability, and
responsibility for nursing practice; makes decisions; and takes action consistent with the obligation to
promote health and to provide optimal care. This was not done, there was no regard for human life.

Philosophical Understanding and a New View
Philosophical understanding
Philosophy is the study of legitimacy, existence, and the manner in which things exist. Philosophy
incorporates an immense range of topics and every person, place, thing, and idea has its roots
implanted in it. Everybody has their own beliefs in life whether it s from religion, morals, or in
essence everything in general. Philosophers try to answer the unknown questions in life that everyone
is wanting to examine and have the answers to. I never even thought twice about the world we live in,
I thought that it was just life and that s all to it; we live and we die. Throughout the semester I have

The new born baby would be able to hear the noise of the people in the hospital room, feel the arms
around him, see the smiling faces, smell and taste the placenta he has been resting in for so long. The
baby without senses would not even know it exists without having senses to understand his
surroundings. Epistemology is how we gain and acquire knowledge. My empiricist epistemological
view point is that nothing in the mind was put there without the help of the senses. Everything we
know is based on learning from different people, or on our own. Rule books are not just zapped into
our heads about how to do things. Every daily task we have in life goes back in time to the first person
who thought of the idea. For example the first person to create a car, they would not have created it if
they could not see, walk or talk. The person who created the first car would not know the long hours it
takes to walk somewhere far away because they would not be able to feel the pain of soreness the day
after. They would have never been able to experiment ways to create machinery that would make
everyone s lives easier someday. I m sure he did not get it right the first time, but he learned through
experience. I believe we learn something new every day through our senses, and we will continue to
learn things through our senses. I cannot think of anything that

Gears and Simple Machines
Gears are part of one of the six simple machines, the wheel and axle. Simple machines, such as the
wheel and axle, are mechanisms created to make difficult work much easier. The six simple machines
consist of the inclined plane, screw, lever, pulley, wedge, and wheel and axle. Gears can be found in
many household items today. For example, watches, bicycles, and pencil sharpeners. The most
common object, in which gears are found, is the car. The car s steering wheel is a simple machine,
called the wheel and axle. Gears however, are not found in the steering wheel, but are located in the
engine. The gears are then controlled by the gear shift, which spins the gears around, causing the car
to move or brake. Gears are circular objects that have teeth all around the outer rim, or just a wheel
with teeth. When in movement, if a singular gear s teeth fit into a second gear, it will cause that second
gear to rotate in the opposite direction of the first gear. This can then be continued by adding more
gears, which in turn create a system of gears. A gear system can be used to function a machine, such as
car s gear shift. This system is called a gear train. Whichever gear starts the gear train by rotating is
called the driver. The final gear on the opposite end of the train is called the driven gear. Meshed
Gears is a gear train of five or more gears. There are many other gear types such as Spur gears, bevel
gears, worm gears, rack gears, and internal gears. All these gears are

The Berlin Wall
Before the creation of the Berlin Wall, West Berlin presented an escape route for thousands of East
Germans, which worsened conditions in the East and put pressure on the West. When East Germany
lost civilians, its economy and social institutions weakened without skilled workers, causing more
civilians to flee in a vicious cycle. The West was also unprepared for the influx of immigrants, due to
the Western Leaders mistaken beliefs that reunification was imminent and economic fragility. East
Germans who feared further Sovietization and coveted the higher wages and civil rights of the West
fled West in droves; between 1941 and 1961 alone nearly 3.7 million people fled West. The creation of
the Berlin Wall almost completely stopped migration, giving both nations the time they needed to
develop. The Government of East Germany, the East German Democratic Republic or GDR , provided
its citizens with housing, free transport, and excellent public education. However, for many East
Germans these benefits were overshadowed by the methods by which the GDR maintained control
and the lack of economic development. The GDR used an extensive secret police network called the
Stasi to suppress discontent. The Stasi surveyed citizens every move in order to suppress rebellious
sentiments (Cameron). The Soviets had also weakened the German economy by selling German
equipment and created a centralized economy completely controlled by the government (Rosenburg).

The Cause And Effects Of Domestic Terrorism In The United...
Second, in the last year, many attacks have happened at public venues in America. Many public places
like arenas and stadiums make security sometimes the least priority. The United States is a highly
populated country may contribute to the high amount of attacks that have and could happen. A more
populous nation will have more domestic assaults because they are inhabited by more heterogeneous
groups than smaller countries. The vast amount of the population of these groups in countries leads to
discrimination which causes a higher amount of domestic terrorism than less populated countries
(Ghatak, pg. 71). This quote explains that with a higher population of different race groups experience
more racism towards them, and these racist things have a cause and effect in which it causes the

civilians are flawed as well, and many do not check enough. For example, whenever people go to a
concert and go through the scanners, have people ever experienced someone putting a pocket knife in
a shoe and it does not beep? Do public places like hotels and restaurants need to start searching
costumers? For example, the Las Vegas shooting at the Country Music Festival. A man checked into a
nice hotel and casino in Vegas and had a bag filled with many deadly machine guns and loaded ammo.

Assisted Suicide Papers
Assisted Suicide dates all the way back to 500 BC when the ancient Greeks and Romans supported it,
to presently something going on in our lives. Assisted suicide is the suicide of a patient that is
suffering from an incurable disease, by taking lethal drugs that have been provided by a doctor for this
specific purpose. Euthanasia is the same thing, but the definitions are different. It is the painless
killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease or an irreversible coma. This
practice is illegal in most countries, including the United States (excluding 2 individual states). There
are two types of euthanasia: passive and active. Passive euthanasia is when the patient dies because

Jack Death Kevorkian sparked the increased chatter about on hospice care and the right to die
legislation action. He was tried and convicted for murder in 1992 and became famous encouraging
and assisting people in committing suicide, assisting at least 130 people in ending their lives, and
saying dying is not a crime. The case that is most famous is when he assisted a 54 year old Alzheimer
s patient, Janet Adkins, in her suicide. She was a member of an organization that advocated voluntary
euthanasia for terminally ill patients. Janet was in search of someone to help her end her life before
she became too ill to do it. Dr. Kevorkian assisted her by attaching her to an IV and administering pain
killers and then poison. Janet Adkins died within minutes. Kevorkian was charged with her murder.
This shocked me because although it was voluntary and she had a valid reason to want to die, Dr.
Kevorkian still went to prison for it. His case was dismissed, but he continued in assisting suicides
which resulted in him going to jail for eight years. If all of the procedures were done with valid
consent, then I believe that he should not have been committed of any

A Paragraph About Obama s Red Line
Obama s Red Line Obama s red line has made the world more dangerous because countries were
testing him or ignoring the line completely. The purpose of the red line was to tell other countries that
chemical weapons were not okay. Other countries/terrorist groups didn t like the statement and made
threats of death to the United States. One of the ways that this has made the world worse off is that
countries ended up using chemical weapons anyways. For example the United states said that we
would bomb anyone who used chemical weapons. Syria decided to test what the U.S. claimed they
would do and decided to use a small amount of chemical weapons on their own people so they could
deny doing it. He started with a small deniable use of chemical weapons . Bashar al Assad didn t want
to be caught. Due to Obama making this red line countries disliked him and he was forced to retreat
out of Syria, which in turn made ISIS stronger. Another 100,000 non combatants have died ISIS grew
stronger and swept into Iraq . ISIS not only killed 100,000 people they displaced 9 million people.
That is a lot of people that have been put into danger due to the red line that Obama proposed. A

The Importance Of Nature For Youth Development
Imagine a boy who has never crunched leaves underfoot as he winds down a forest trail, or a girl who
has never followed frogs along a marsh. Imagine children who have watched Finding Nemo but never
have seen a living fish in a pond, or have read Charlotte s Web but never seen the morning dew settle
on a spider s filaments. Unfortunately, our imaginations do not need to stray very far to envision lives
of children cut off from nature, solely surrounded by concrete, metal and bricks. Many Canadian
educators intuitively recognize nature experiences as beneficial for youth, and various sources of
information their own experiences, poetry, movies or scientific studies seem to support such intuitions.
Despite the growing cultural awareness of the importance of nature for youth s development, there
seems to be a continuing emphasis on indoor, disembodied forms of education in classrooms, that are
overly focused on abstract cognition at the expense of emotion, movement, and other processes rooted
in body environment interactions. Why not reconsider the significance of nature as a valuable object
of learning, and reshape the current outdoor and nature narrative throughout our curriculum? Based on
my own personal experience, Chambers affirmations and Doll s rationale, nature should be considered
as such.
Despite living in an urban setting, I grew up nature. I made dollhouses out of birch bark inhabited by
acorn people, turning rivers into roads for tadpoles. The forest was my

isolated by those that I viewed as friends. I have always been surrounded by a strictly Democratic

Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Euro
The European Union is not perfect. It has its own weaknesses and faults as well. Therefore, now I
would like to write a short description about the mistakes of the monetary union. Then I put a question
to all of us if the Eurozone, and especially the Euro, need to be reformed after the last years
experiences. Finally at the end of this subsection I briefly summarize the negative effects of the crisis
on the EU as a single currency area.
First of all, there is some structural mistake which should be corrected. For instance, there were a lot
of real estate price bubbles and credit bubbles among the countries in the periphery of the Union
because of cheap credits. The Eurozone had no proper institutional background to predict the

Additionally, in connection with this topic, I would like to bring up the example of Sweden just in
very briefly. Sweden has had the opportunity to adopt the Euro since 2006 but they have not
introduced it yet. Their government supports the idea of that the main and last judgement should be
done by the population but they are waiting for the proper time for the referendum. This kind of
behaviour could be experienced in Hungary too, probably in order to profit from the process as much
as we could. Therefore, the next question is: What if this behaviour could make negative effects on
other countries, for example on Hungary, and influence them towards denying the Euro? However, we
can see on Figure 14 that most of the people in Hungary want to introduce the single currency
according to that opinion poll. Hence, it seems that temporarily we do not want to follow the way of
the northern country. In addition, recently Sweden does [also] not have a target date to adopt the euro
just like Hungary. Anyway, our government has a lot to do (e.g. implementing all the convergence
criteria) up to that time we could think about this decision whether the best solution is for

Geometry and Art of Stained Glass From a church to a person s home, there is stained glass all around
us. Most people take a look at stained glass and just admire the beauty, but not the work that goes into
it. The intense planning and preparations in deciding what to make and how to put it all together. Not
until recently, there has been no real equation for stained glass, but that has changed. People can now
use formulas and equations to take a part a piece of work. All over the world stained glass is known.
There is much more to stained glass than just what meets the eyes of the people who see it.
Stained glass contrasts from natural images. It has a wider dynamic range between highlight and
shadow areas. The name comes from the silver stain on the outside of the building. There is no exact
place where stained glass originated from. It is said that stained glass was an accidental finding.
According to Pliny s tale Phoenician sailors left a mixture of cooking pots, sand, and soda to burn
overnight created stained glass. As you can assume, this was not a very consistent method. Therefore,
the findings are given to Egyptians or Mesopotamian potters. At St. Paul s Monastery in Jarrow,
England a stained glass window was found in 686 AD and is the oldest known example. The Augsburg
Cathedral held the oldest complete European windows. There are different types of stained glass such
as; Romanesque, Gothic, and

The Lack of Free Speech in the Military
As a member of the United States military, there are times that the very freedoms that are being
defended are not extended to those sailors and soldiers that are in charge of that task. One of those
freedoms is freedom of speech. As a veteran of the United States Navy, I find the limitation of speech
for a member of the military to be contradictory at best. The very fact that members of the armed
forces cannot speak freely about government officials, as well as government issues that affect their
lives, seems to be controversial because it limits one of the freedoms these sailors and soldiers have
vowed to protect. To oppose the right of free speech of any member of the military takes away from
the importance of the job they do. It has been argued that a member of the military should be mindful
of whom they work for and the chain of command that orders come from, and that any display of
dissatisfaction can be seen as disobedience or even treason.
I support members of the military being able to voice their thoughts on issues that impact their lives,
as well as the lives of their families. There are a few reasons why I support this. Simply put, as
Americans they have the right of freedom of speech. Given the responsibilities of these sailors and
soldiers in their day to day jobs, they should be entrusted to know what to say and what not to say.
Most people take for granted the right to speak one s mind, right or wrong, and have nearly no
ramifications for doing so. When one

Eutrophication in te Chesapeake Bay Essay
Introduction
What is your topic/issue within that topic?
Eutrophication is a concern in the Chesapeake Bay. Eutrophication is caused by excessive amounts of
nutrients. Excessive nutrients in the bay have negative effects on the bay s ecosystem. The extra
nutrients make the environment unbalanced. The extra nutrients cause a chain reaction that eventually
kills most of the organisms in that area. This is what is known as a dead zone.
What is your personal interest in the topic?
This topic is interesting to me because it is a very local issue. I eat the seafood out of the Chesapeake,
I fish in many of its tributaries, and I visit many sights built around this watershed. I live in Lancaster
County which is focused on in many studies because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is understood that there is not just one problem causing the dead zone in the bay. Two main
contributors are the focus. Details are presented on the problems brought to the bay by agriculture, and
development. The language is easy to understand and the scientific and environmental message is
conveyed in a way that can be followed.
Summary of source The importance of the Chesapeake Bay is introduced. The bay is home to a large
amount of seafood businesses, and many people fish the bay and its tributaries for sport. Grass beds
are essential to many of the organisms living in this ecosystem, but are being destroyed by pollution.
Agriculture involves more than a fourth of the bay s watershed. This makes agricultural runoff a big
focus. Excessive nitrogen and phosphorus causes eutrophication. These nutrients come from pesticides
and sewage also. A goal was set in 1985 to cut back the percent of nutrients being put into the bay by
these two sources. It is thought that redirecting the flow of soil with nutrients in them will reduce the
runoff, but if the nutrients seep into groundwater they still get into the Chesapeake Bay. Farmers have
ways to help reduce these nutrient levels, but it is not the cheapest way to farm, so not all farmers are
doing their part to save the bay. Another contributor of runoff land development. Runoff can occur
from exposed land being prepared to be developed, or because of what has been used to replace what
used to naturally be.

George Wilhelm Friedrich and the French Revolution Essay
George Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel was a German Philosopher who was born in Stuttgart in 1770. As a
young man, he studied theology, but was also impelled to explore philosophy due to the upheaval of
this treacherous time in history. The Reign of Terror and French Revolution had a huge impact on
Germany and Europe, and Hegel became caught up in the fervor and outrage of the period and wanted
to take a deeper look at the events that were occurring. His look and analysis of the French Revolution
is what began his reflection of history.
After graduation from the seminary, Hegel joined the faculty of the University of Jena, the philosophic
center of Germany. While there, he wrote Phenomenology of Spirit, his first major book. Hegel left

Original historians relied heavily upon the writings of other contemporaries, because it would be
impossible for them to have seen everything that occurred at once. Original history is where we get
direct accounts of legend, folklore, and traditions because a person would have to have been there to
truly know about these. The great advantage that original historians have over the others is that they
lived through and were shaped by the events as they unfolded. They can descriptively write about
them from their experience, as opposed to a historian writing accounts based on the writings of others
hundreds of years later. Hegel said of these historians, The influences that have formed the writer are
identical with those which have moulded the events that constitute the matter of his story. The author s
spirit, and that of the actions he narrates, is one and the same (www.marxists.org).
The second kind of history described in Hegel s Philosophy of History, Reflective history, is written
after the time period being described has passed. These historians endeavor to show connections
between and reasons for historical events. Hegel distinguishes four types of Reflective History:
Universal, Pragmatic, Critical, and Specialized.

Ways Of Seeing John Berger
Throughout the history of art, the meaning of images and the fashion in which themes are depicted
have shifted throughout the history of art. In the book Ways of Seeing, John Berger outlines the
reasons behind these changes in the consumption of art and explains why art has become what it is
today. However, within his explanation he misses one of the most important contributors to this
evolution: the cultural changes that have occurred since the creation of the painting. He does mention
these differences, but only uses the concept of changing social norms to strengthen his argument about
the mystification of art. This is an oversight. A cultural shift changes how people perceive of the
world, and thus, changes how ideas are depicted in art. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These works were the exact opposite of his earlier works, which were of a larger scale, utilized color,
and were meant for a client. Instead, The Disasters of War were prints, made for easy disbursement on
small pieces of paper (Figure 2). This sudden shift in artistic style can be attributed to several changes
in the artist s personal life and the political atmosphere surrounding him. During the time period in
which these prints were made, between the years of 1810 1812, Napoleon had invaded Spain, and
brought with him war and destruction ( Goya Prado Tour ). With the warfare came the actual practice
of Enlightenment ideals. Most of these ideas had been known in Spain prior to this point and were
supported by the middle class, but they had been under the rule of an absolute monarch ( Goya Prado
Tour ). Therefore, the appearance with these ideas alongside bloody war must have been startling and
unsettling. Goya, who was in agreement with the ideas of the French Revolution, stayed in Spain after
the expulsion of the monarchs ( Goya Prado Tour ). However, it can be seen that the blood and
violence that followed with these changes bothered him. Before the French invaded, all of the
Enlightenment ideals of the French Revolution were intangible thoughts that Spaniards had spoken of
in theory, not actually experienced. With the experience of these Enlightenment ideas came war,

The Importance Of Rescission And Restitution Of The Law Of...
REMEDIES
Rescission
A contract with missing required elements can be officiated void by the courts. Rescission officially
voids a contract.
In contract law, rescission has been defined as the unmaking of a contract between parties. Rescission
is the unwinding of a transaction. This is done to bring the parties, as far as possible, back to the
position in which they were before they entered into a contract. [6]
The contract between Debbie and Alan is VOID (SUPRA).
As such, the court will most likely rescind the contract and officially make it void.
Restitution
Restitution damages are money damages that are awarded to an innocent party to compensate for the
benefit that party gave. Restitution will always involve a loss to the innocent party that benefits the
other party.
Rescission and Restitution: the remedy of canceling a contract and making restitution to the parties.
The law of restitution is the law of gains based recovery. It is to be contrasted with the law of
compensation, which is the law of loss based recovery. When a court orders restitution it orders the
defendant to give up his/her gains to the claimant. When a court orders compensation it orders the
defendant to pay the claimant for his or her loss. Simply, the plaintiff will get the value of whatever
was conferred to the defendant when there was a contract. [7]

consideration in return, it is

Compare And Contrast Feminism And Liberal Feminism
Whilst many disagreements have arisen in feminist discourse over the years, none has been quite as
prevalent or divisive as the issue of the commodification of sexuality. There are two central groups in
feminist ideology that are divided on this issue, liberal feminism and radical feminism. Liberal
feminism is influenced by the ideas and values of liberalism. Thus, these feminists share a
contractarian view which places an emphasis on a woman s ability to make choices for herself and that
the selling of one s sexuality is merely an expression of that choice. Paradoxically, radical feminists
believe that because women live in a patriarchal society, the commodification of sexuality can never
be a choice or a form of expression. Rather, forms of sexual commodification such as pornography
and prostitution just enforce male oppression. This essay will explore these two ideological positions
in regard to their divergent definitions of human nature and freedom which has created a division
within feminism about the commodification of sexuality.
Liberal feminism is grounded in the ideological framework of liberalism and therefore shares a
commonality with liberal themes of human nature. Whilst acknowledging the biological differences
between sexes, early liberal feminists argued that prevailing liberal ideas should also be applied to
women. Therefore, both men and women possesses natural rights, they should have equal rights under
law and share equal opportunity (Beasley 1999).

Americans and try to kill the American moral. Instead Americans would be reminded of what they are
fighting for and continue to be strong on their attack against the Japanese. In the Spring of 1942,
America would suffer the loss at the fall of the Philippines. The battles in the Philippines was led by
General Douglas MacArthur. Following the fall of Bataan and in the Philippines, the Americans would
suffer through the brutal Bataan Death March on April 9. Men were forced to march all through the

The Limitations Of Contemporary Currency Hegemony And The...
Chapter 4 The Limitations of Contemporary Currency Hegemony and the Transition to Multipolarity
The prevailing presumption amongst currency scholars of the past century is that issuing a currency
that dominates global markets and trading is of overwhelming benefit, largely interpreted via the gains
made by the US as the issuer of the dollar. These benefits have been both political and economic in
nature, as discussed in the previous chapter. However, both domestic and external factors have begun
to detract from the dollar s pinnacle currency gains, and leads to questions of whether what was once
described as an exorbitant privilege is deteriorating to the extent that it is a burden. While assessing
the dollar s evolved role as a burden appears premature, nonetheless it appears the capacity of the US
to use the dollar as a mechanism for power is under threat. In fact, the US dollar may well be more
than just under threat . It is no longer able to exert influence like it once was, but relies on the benefits
it solidified for itself at the formation of the globes monetary structures. The leverage available to the
United States through the use of dollars is still greater than any rival currency, but it is not absolute as
it was decades before. While much has been written about the euro, and the dollars other potential
replacements at the pinnacle of the currency pyramid, what appears more likely is a leaderless
currency system as Cohen termed it, with no clear

Compare And Contrast Paleolithic And Neolithic
Historians have many ideas which differ but all divide history into two periods, the Paleolithic Period
and the Neolithic Period. In the Paleolithic period, there was little to no evidence of political activities
and a government, while the Neolithic period had agriculture which led to advancements in political
structures, activities, etc., increase of populations and the creation of professional managers. There is
also a difference in economy as seen when the Paleolithic people had a foraging economy while the
Neolithic people had an agriculture economy which allowed the creation of specialized jobs and large
systems of trade. The Paleolithic people also had a religion where they worshipped Venus figurines in
hope of fertility and painted

Consent Vs Formal Consent
Is it better to scrutinize the idea of consent on the fact that consent should be partially given or that we
should be required to give full consent for all that we do? I believe that consent, in all of its
importance should not always be fully mandatory. O neill however did not believe this. He felt that
full consent should be given at all times, whether it be hypothetical or actual consent. Throughout this
response essay I will be talking about the two different types of consent in which O neill s perspective
is founded and I will also be telling why it is dangerous to follow this reasoning and why I do not
agree with this point of view. Consent is a key component to how we live our lives. It is something we
use more frequently than we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This style may be used in the condition in which a person would consent if he or she were in the
position of doing so. We would say it might be acceptable to perform an operation on an unresponsive
person because they might have been inclined to consent if they were able to do so.
The argument that I have against hypothetical consent is that: who is to say what is rational and was is
not rational. It can also override actual dissent, this can be very problematic in take for instance the
example of the unconscious victim. The comatose person may be suffering from a terminal disease or
may be towards the end of their life and do not have the funds to support a medical operation. Not
having the operation may be what they actually want to do but by performing it the doctors would be
going against the patient s actual consent. Although the perspective force of hypothetical consent is
effective, some have argued that hypothetical consent is not real consent, and it cannot do any moral
good.
In conclusion, I believe O neill did an excellent job classifying the different types of consent.
Hypothetical and Actual consent are applicable to almost everything in life, but the pitfalls that come
along with any type of consent are too great to be

Humanitarian Intervention with Respect to R2P
AGENDA HUMANITARIAN INTERVENTION WITH RESPECT TO R2P INTRODUCTION The
objective of humanitarian intervention is to prevent mass violation of human rights and human dignity.
It has remained a compelling issue in international affairs because of its controversial character.
Although sovereignty has formed the basis of international relations since the Treaty of Westphalia,
events in the 1990s raised the impetus of the international community to place the protection of
civilians before state autonomy. However, given the complexity of international law and international
relations, the threshold for triggering interventions continues to be debated. Definition Humanitarian
intervention is the threat or use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Secretariat General has strengthened capacity of mediation and control. It also proposed that the
established of so called a Peace building Commission backed by supporting fund will effectively
transform a country from war to peace. Murphy, Sean D.(1996) The United Nations in an Evolving
World Order, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: University of Pennsylvania press, 1996. Pg. 75 82 (b)
Responsibility to Protect When peaceful means of a nation s government fails to put a halt to
genocide, ethnic cleansing, and mass violation or has been proven inadequate, the UN Security
Council has the right to collectively take action. (c) Human rights, Democracy, and Rule of Law
Decisive act must be taken to strengthen the UN human right machinery and to increase related
funding. The 2005 World Summit also heavily favours for the idea of the foundation of Human Rights
Council over the coming years. In addition to emphasizing the essentiality of a human right institution,
the World Summit also reaffirmed democracy as a universal value. THE RESPONSIBILITY TO
PROTECT CORE PRINCIPLES (1) Basic Principles A. State sovereignty implies responsibility, and
the primary responsibility for the protection of its people lies with the state itself. B. Where a

  • 2. The Rabbi The Rabbi Helen Frace Western Governors University RTT Task 1 The Rabbi Mr. J is an elderly, retired, Jewish rabbi of 78 years old. Due to a hip fracture Mr. J was admitted to the hospital. Issues were identified during Mr. J s hospital stay, which could have been improved to make Mr. J s stay more pleasant. In 1994 the American Nurses Association (ANA) started the Patient Safety and Quality Initiative. It was a pilot program designed to evaluate the links between nurse staffing and quality care (Montalvo, 2007). The program outcome was a set of nursing sensitive indicators used to evaluate quality care for patients in the acute setting and the start of the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI). The NDNQI is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ulcers are preventable with turning schedules, frequent toileting, and good nutrition. Millions of dollars could be saved with just a few interventions and patient satisfaction would also increase. There are things that could have been done to solve the ethical issues in Mr. J s scenario. First, the CNA needs to be educated on what to look for when it comes to pressure areas. A protocol should be in place in which a CNA notifies the nursing staff of any redness. In turn the nursing staff should then follow up with a care for the patient that requires turning every two hours. Second, a local Rabbi should be called in to educate staff on the Jewish culture and the changes in care a patient should need if they are Jewish. Teaching on Kosher diets would be one of the aspects of the education provided to all staff. Thirdly, all staff needs education about communication. Education about communication should be ongoing. Communication between staff is as important as communication between staff and patients and staff and family. The diet issue should have been brought up to management before so that the problem could have been prevented before Mr. J became a patient. The fact that it was not reported reflects a system change that needs to be made in the realm of communication. Lastly, there should be a protocol as to when restraints should be used. Analysis of Jules Ferry s argument on French Colonial Expansion 1884 The industrial revolution was not only a time of great advancement for the west but was equally troubling for the European countries, especially that of France. Jules Ferry, a French statesmen recognized a need for expansion and took it upon himself to go in front of French parliament to argue his position of the need for French colonial expansion. The arguments he made in support of his country were of economical, humanitarian, and patriotic views. The first of these arguments was economical in nature. I don t believe that his critics liked the idea of forcing expansion. I think that Ferry s reasoning were more humanitarian in nature. He also justifies his remarks by saying that they will never become great by being do nothing people. He said that to be great that they had to act and that the choices they made would decide how great they could become. Ferry s last argument was that of patriotism. Ferry was a patriot, a countryman if you will. He believed that his country was great but could be greater. This is why his last argument was on the defense of his country A country should be as self sufficient as possible when it comes to its national defense, and so to compete with the military and naval expansion of rival nations it would only be logical to make a move that would strengthen military forces. Ferry expressed a need for safe harbors, defenses, and supply centers for naval ships. Kate Chopin s character, Louise Mallard, from The Story of an Hour , Emily Grierson from A Rose for Emily by Willliam Faulkner, and the character Roselily from Alice Walker s Roselily are all examples of women restricted by the time they live in. After Emily s father died she no longer had to live up to his expectations but because he never let her leave the house she was unfamiliar with the new, modern ideas and did not embrace them because she was so used to the ideals her father had instilled her. Another expectation of women was that they were not to handle money. A group of men came to Emily for taxes and she denied, saying I have no taxes in Jefferson. It was a man s job to take care of all money transactions because they worked for the money and because women could not buy land in the nineteenth century, taxes were left to the men. Emily kept saying she had no taxes because she still lived up to the social expectation that women could not handle money. In the story the ladies were gossiping about Miss Emily and one of them said Just as if a man any man could keep a kitchen properly. It was a woman s job to keep the kitchen and the ladies disapproved that Emily was not running her kitchen. Therefore, the pure phase of mixed metal oxides and its supported form were prepared from the precursors and the selected support to overcome the limitations of individual metal oxides. The characteristics of individual metal oxides can be retained or even enhanced by mixing of appropriate individual oxides for CLC application in terms of multi cycle CLC performance (cost, activity, stability, mechanical strength, reduction in carbon deposition, etc.). The mixed oxide of Fe and Mn has been developed in our lab as a possible candidate for CLC. Fe Mn mixed oxide possesses the promise as oxygen carrier for the CLC applications due to availability of low cost minerals precursors, relatively high OCC, stability and environmentally benign nature. Mungse et al. reported the pure phase of iron manganese oxides (FeMnO3 and Fe3Mn3O8) that exhibit CLOU property. It was found that Fe3Mn3O8 was reduced into FeMnO3 at higher temperatures. Fe3O4 and MnO were observed as reduced products after methane combustion reaction of FeMnO3 [25]. Nickel manganese oxides were also prepared for methane conversion [50]. My empiricist epistemological view point is that nothing in the mind was put there without the help of the senses. Everything we know is based on learning from different people, or on our own. Rule books are not just zapped into our heads about how to do things. Every daily task we have in life goes back in time to the first person who thought of the idea. • 19. Gears and Simple Machines Gears are part of one of the six simple machines, the wheel and axle. Simple machines, such as the wheel and axle, are mechanisms created to make difficult work much easier. The six simple machines consist of the inclined plane, screw, lever, pulley, wedge, and wheel and axle. Gears can be found in many household items today. For example, watches, bicycles, and pencil sharpeners. The most common object, in which gears are found, is the car. The car s steering wheel is a simple machine, called the wheel and axle. Gears however, are not found in the steering wheel, but are located in the engine. The gears are then controlled by the gear shift, which spins the gears around, causing the car to move or brake. Gears are circular objects that have teeth all around the outer rim, or just a wheel with teeth. When in movement, if a singular gear s teeth fit into a second gear, it will cause that second gear to rotate in the opposite direction of the first gear. This can then be continued by adding more gears, which in turn create a system of gears. A gear system can be used to function a machine, such as car s gear shift. This system is called a gear train. Whichever gear starts the gear train by rotating is called the driver. The final gear on the opposite end of the train is called the driven gear. Meshed Gears is a gear train of five or more gears. There are many other gear types such as Spur gears, bevel gears, worm gears, rack gears, and internal gears. All these gears are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Berlin Wall Before the creation of the Berlin Wall, West Berlin presented an escape route for thousands of East Germans, which worsened conditions in the East and put pressure on the West. When East Germany lost civilians, its economy and social institutions weakened without skilled workers, causing more civilians to flee in a vicious cycle. The West was also unprepared for the influx of immigrants, due to the Western Leaders mistaken beliefs that reunification was imminent and economic fragility. East Germans who feared further Sovietization and coveted the higher wages and civil rights of the West fled West in droves; between 1941 and 1961 alone nearly 3.7 million people fled West. The creation of the Berlin Wall almost completely stopped migration, giving both nations the time they needed to develop. The Government of East Germany, the East German Democratic Republic or GDR , provided its citizens with housing, free transport, and excellent public education. However, for many East Germans these benefits were overshadowed by the methods by which the GDR maintained control and the lack of economic development. The GDR used an extensive secret police network called the Stasi to suppress discontent. The Stasi surveyed citizens every move in order to suppress rebellious sentiments (Cameron). Many public places like arenas and stadiums make security sometimes the least priority. The United States is a highly populated country may contribute to the high amount of attacks that have and could happen. A more populous nation will have more domestic assaults because they are inhabited by more heterogeneous groups than smaller countries. The vast amount of the population of these groups in countries leads to discrimination which causes a higher amount of domestic terrorism than less populated countries (Ghatak, pg. 71). This quote explains that with a higher population of different race groups experience more racism towards them, and these racist things have a cause and effect in which it causes the groups to go against the country and act out with hate and violence towards the country they inhabit. The security guards checking do not work their hardest to monitor people. Plus, the ways of checking civilians are flawed as well, and many do not check enough. Imagine children who have watched Finding Nemo but never have seen a living fish in a pond, or have read Charlotte s Web but never seen the morning dew settle on a spider s filaments. Unfortunately, our imaginations do not need to stray very far to envision lives of children cut off from nature, solely surrounded by concrete, metal and bricks. Many Canadian educators intuitively recognize nature experiences as beneficial for youth, and various sources of information their own experiences, poetry, movies or scientific studies seem to support such intuitions. Despite the growing cultural awareness of the importance of nature for youth s development, there seems to be a continuing emphasis on indoor, disembodied forms of education in classrooms, that are overly focused on abstract cognition at the expense of emotion, movement, and other processes rooted in body environment interactions. Why not reconsider the significance of nature as a valuable object of learning, and reshape the current outdoor and nature narrative throughout our curriculum? Not until recently, there has been no real equation for stained glass, but that has changed. People can now use formulas and equations to take a part a piece of work. All over the world stained glass is known. There is much more to stained glass than just what meets the eyes of the people who see it. Stained glass contrasts from natural images. It has a wider dynamic range between highlight and shadow areas. The name comes from the silver stain on the outside of the building. There is no exact place where stained glass originated from. It is said that stained glass was an accidental finding. According to Pliny s tale Phoenician sailors left a mixture of cooking pots, sand, and soda to burn overnight created stained glass. As you can assume, this was not a very consistent method. Therefore, the findings are given to Egyptians or Mesopotamian potters. The Lack of Free Speech in the Military As a member of the United States military, there are times that the very freedoms that are being defended are not extended to those sailors and soldiers that are in charge of that task. One of those freedoms is freedom of speech. As a veteran of the United States Navy, I find the limitation of speech for a member of the military to be contradictory at best. The very fact that members of the armed forces cannot speak freely about government officials, as well as government issues that affect their lives, seems to be controversial because it limits one of the freedoms these sailors and soldiers have vowed to protect. To oppose the right of free speech of any member of the military takes away from the importance of the job they do. It has been argued that a member of the military should be mindful of whom they work for and the chain of command that orders come from, and that any display of dissatisfaction can be seen as disobedience or even treason. I support members of the military being able to voice their thoughts on issues that impact their lives, as well as the lives of their families. There are a few reasons why I support this. Simply put, as Americans they have the right of freedom of speech. Details are presented on the problems brought to the bay by agriculture, and development. The language is easy to understand and the scientific and environmental message is conveyed in a way that can be followed. Summary of source The importance of the Chesapeake Bay is introduced. The bay is home to a large amount of seafood businesses, and many people fish the bay and its tributaries for sport. Grass beds are essential to many of the organisms living in this ecosystem, but are being destroyed by pollution. Agriculture involves more than a fourth of the bay s watershed. This makes agricultural runoff a big focus. Excessive nitrogen and phosphorus causes eutrophication. These nutrients come from pesticides and sewage also. A goal was set in 1985 to cut back the percent of nutrients being put into the bay by these two sources. It is thought that redirecting the flow of soil with nutrients in them will reduce the runoff, but if the nutrients seep into groundwater they still get into the Chesapeake Bay. Farmers have ways to help reduce these nutrient levels, but it is not the cheapest way to farm, so not all farmers are doing their part to save the bay. Another contributor of runoff land development. Runoff can occur from exposed land being prepared to be developed, or because of what has been used to replace what used to naturally be. ... Original history is where we get direct accounts of legend, folklore, and traditions because a person would have to have been there to truly know about these. The great advantage that original historians have over the others is that they lived through and were shaped by the events as they unfolded. They can descriptively write about them from their experience, as opposed to a historian writing accounts based on the writings of others hundreds of years later. Hegel said of these historians, The influences that have formed the writer are identical with those which have moulded the events that constitute the matter of his story. However, within his explanation he misses one of the most important contributors to this evolution: the cultural changes that have occurred since the creation of the painting. During the time period in which these prints were made, between the years of 1810 1812, Napoleon had invaded Spain, and brought with him war and destruction ( Goya Prado Tour ). With the warfare came the actual practice of Enlightenment ideals. Most of these ideas had been known in Spain prior to this point and were supported by the middle class, but they had been under the rule of an absolute monarch ( Goya Prado Tour ). • 40. Compare And Contrast Feminism And Liberal Feminism Whilst many disagreements have arisen in feminist discourse over the years, none has been quite as prevalent or divisive as the issue of the commodification of sexuality. There are two central groups in feminist ideology that are divided on this issue, liberal feminism and radical feminism. Liberal feminism is influenced by the ideas and values of liberalism. Thus, these feminists share a contractarian view which places an emphasis on a woman s ability to make choices for herself and that the selling of one s sexuality is merely an expression of that choice. Paradoxically, radical feminists believe that because women live in a patriarchal society, the commodification of sexuality can never be a choice or a form of expression. Rather, forms of sexual commodification such as pornography and prostitution just enforce male oppression. This essay will explore these two ideological positions in regard to their divergent definitions of human nature and freedom which has created a division within feminism about the commodification of sexuality. Liberal feminism is grounded in the ideological framework of liberalism and therefore shares a commonality with liberal themes of human nature. Whilst acknowledging the biological differences between sexes, early liberal feminists argued that prevailing liberal ideas should also be applied to women. Therefore, both men and women possesses natural rights, they should have equal rights under law and share equal opportunity (Beasley 1999). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Chapter 4 The Limitations of Contemporary Currency Hegemony and the Transition to Multipolarity The prevailing presumption amongst currency scholars of the past century is that issuing a currency that dominates global markets and trading is of overwhelming benefit, largely interpreted via the gains made by the US as the issuer of the dollar. These benefits have been both political and economic in nature, as discussed in the previous chapter. However, both domestic and external factors have begun to detract from the dollar s pinnacle currency gains, and leads to questions of whether what was once described as an exorbitant privilege is deteriorating to the extent that it is a burden. While assessing the dollar s evolved role as a burden appears premature, nonetheless it appears the capacity of the US to use the dollar as a mechanism for power is under threat. In fact, the US dollar may well be more than just under threat . Humanitarian Intervention with Respect to R2P AGENDA HUMANITARIAN INTERVENTION WITH RESPECT TO R2P INTRODUCTION The objective of humanitarian intervention is to prevent mass violation of human rights and human dignity. It has remained a compelling issue in international affairs because of its controversial character.
