Memory And Memory Of Computers
Memory
Have you ever wanted to know how certain files, documents and so on are being saved and what led
this to occur? The memory of computers is quite fascinating and there is so much that goes into saving
something on a computer. There are different types of memory that is found on computers that is
needed to make things work and that would be acceptable to the user. The main two that is quite
known in the computer world would be Primary and Secondary memory. There are 2 types that make
up the Primary memory and that would be Random Access Memory (RAM) and Read only memory
(ROM). The secondary memory consists of a hard disk drive, flash drive and zip drive. There are also
optical discs that are included.
One thing that is special in terms of computers would be the Primary memory. Primary memory is
divided into 2 types. The first type would be random access memory. RAM is in charge of keeping
data in a stored area so that it can be reached by the processor when necessary. RAM does a really
good job at laying away data in such a random basis. An article from the PC World have shown that in
this generation RAM has increased tremendously; it is said that A review of systems that the PC World
test center has grown from a little over 90 MB to about 2 GB, spiking whenever Microsoft releases a
new version of Windows (Stafford pg. 84). RAM has 2 forms, they are Static RAM and Dynamic
RAM. Static RAM

Literature Review On Blended Language Learning
Literature Review
This section discusses the fundamental concepts of blended language learning. It highlights basic
issues such as constructivism, eLearning, blended learning and Blackboard Learning Management
System (LMS) definitions, purposes, and advantages. It also reviews previous research that relevant to
the use of Blackboard in blended language environment in higher education.
Introduction
Constructivism is a theory of knowing and a way of examining how humans learn (Fosnot, 1996).
Constructivist learning theory pertains to the engendering and constructing of knowledge based on one
s experience (Vygotsky 1978). The Constructivist theory of Jerome Bruner (1996) provides the learner
with opportunities to reflect on their experiences. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The limited time and the expanded classes usually hamper the effectiveness of learning and teaching
of language. The result is an increase in the demand to construct a learning environment for language
in both the traditional and non traditional modes that foster autonomous learning in an out of
classroom setting. The presumption with this notion is that traditional classroom teaching is
inadequate in making students hone their independent skills for language learning. Technology based
language learning firmly adheres to the ideology that asserts that learners must develop their goals
throughout their learning process and to be capable of planning and reflecting, as well as directing,
their respective learning experiences (Chang,

Drones Bad
Drones are widely discussed if there good or bad for the environment around them or if
In one way arguments are saying they could say that drones are peaceful and they help spot dangers
with their camera and that they could help spot terrorist attacks earlier. But in the other argument, they
say that they could say drones are a danger up high to pilots and that they can be used to spy on
people. But this is why drones are bad for society and that they can be used for a lot of scary stuff that
can be used against you.
One reason why People need to get rid of drones is that they can spy on people. They can be used to
spy on borders and they will think that People are spying on them because People don t trust them.
drones can make people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can also be a possibility if a person gets something bad inside of your body or an infection in your
skin. They can also confuse or crash into pilots and if it s a passenger plane it can kill a lot of people
and it s more likely because other countries have them. Another reason that people need to get rid of
drones is because they can be used for terrorist attacks. They could attach something to the drone so it
can be used to attack us harshly and people wouldn t even see it coming. They can be used really
harshly against us and it could eventually start the third war and it can be more dangerous because of
all the technologically and because of small drones. Drones are hard to see so that s why it can be
dangerous for all countries and can lead to fewer allies for United states because people could also use
it or they can become more week.
Drones could be used to stop terrorist attacks and they could spy on killers and where terrorist camps
are. They could be used for spotting fires while they are starting or getting bigger and more spread

Comparing The Robber Bridegroom And The Grimm Brothers
Fairy tales possess the ability to last throughout the decades. The stories are passed down from
generations and teach valuable lessons in extraordinary ways. In fact, most fairy tales began with oral
storytelling. However, The Grimm Brothers made multiple editions of tales that they claimed as their
own. With over 200 fairy tales, not all of their stories gained the same amount of popularity. Their
more prominent stories, such as Cinderella and Snow White, create a sense of whimsy with talking
animals and love. In contrast, The Robber Bridegroom, a lesser known fairy tale, focuses on dark
ideas: cannibalism and murder. The Grimm Brothers fairy tale The Robber Bridegroom did not reach
the same level of acclaim as other Grimm stories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Grimm stories usually contain the standard characters of a fairy tale. In a normal fairy tale, the
characters include the fool, the fairy, the wicked crone, the charming prince, and the beautiful damsel
(Heckel). While not all of these characters are always included, most stories contain some
combination of them. These characters help make the iconic setup that makes the story popular. For
instance, the famous fairy tale Snow White shows off a wicked crone, a charming prince, and the
beautiful damsel. Snow White escapes her evil queen mother and ends up with her prince ( Snow
White ). In Snow White, the ideal structure is in place; everything comes together and it has a joyful
ending. However, in The Robber Bridegroom, there is no charming prince or a standard wicked crone
( The Robber ). The daughter is left to defend herself against the suitor and she does not end up with
love. The archetypal characters are not only missing, but the standard theme of love is not present
anywhere within the story. The fairy tale did not reach its full capability because it lacks the archetypal
characters that let readers connect to the

Acid Base Balance Research Paper
Abstract
In this essay I will be discussing four conditions: respiratory acidosis, respiratory alkalosis, metabolic
acidosis and metabolic alkalosis. I will be defining each condition by including the levels of PCO2 or
HCO3 and the pH levels, common causes for each condition, the compensatory mechanism for each
condition, treatment mechanisms for each condition, and how older age may compromise the acid
base balance processes.
Acid Base Balances and Fluids and Electrolytes
This is the most common challenge to acid base balance develops when the respiratory system can t
eliminate all the CO2 generated by the peripheral tissues. CO2 is the single biggest influence on acid
base balance in the body, because it is generated as a metabolic waste product 24/7 by virtually every
body cell. Primary symptom is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main cause of acid base imbalance is production of lactic acid from strenuous activity. Other
organic acids produced through metabolic activities, like the generation of carbon dioxide and its
transport in the blood. A less common cause would be reduced ability to excrete H+ at the kidneys a
drop in bicarbonate ions (HCO3 ) impairs the normal buffering ability of the carbonic acid bicarbonate
system; severe diarrhea can compromise this system, with HCO3 (which would normally be recovered
from the digestive tract. Many digestive secretions have bicarbonate ion in them being lost in the feces
rather than recovered physicians need to look at the causes of the acidosis. In severe cases requiring
treatment, the person receives respiratory assistance, and isotonic IV s with sodium lactate, sodium
gluconate or sodium bicarbonate. These compounds can act as buffers, lowering the pH of the body s
fluids). Respiratory and metabolic acidosis can be linked, as in a near drowning, when PO2 is low,
PCO2 is high, and the struggling person generated a lot of lactic acid in their oxygen starved tissues. (

Examples Of Altruism In I Am Legend
Even though selflessness will always be driven by serving one s values, feelings, or desires which is
ultimately serving you, altruism does exist. Altruism exists when it requires a person to sacrifice for
another without consideration of personal gain because not every act has a selfish motive. People must
learn to contribute to life through objective reality because it universalizes existence. Everyday life is
filled with small acts of altruism. Or maybe altruism does involve being self interested after all. Some
of the things that one does do not always mean they are selfish. Let s use the movie, I am Legend
starring Will Smith as an example. Robert Neville (Will Smith) lives in New York and although he had
the chance to leave with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To be honest, I know my essay is crap. I completely suck at philosophy and I don t know many things.
But I do know that being altruistic means also being selfish. Third world countries probably view
America as an altruistic hero because they basically help fight wars for other people. But as Arundhati
Roy said, Wars are never fought for altruistic reasons. Yes, soldiers do sacrifice their lives fighting, but
it s not (mostly) because they are altruistic, but because it s their way of paying rent . The definition of
altruism is the belief in or practice of disinterested and selfless concern for the well being of others.
But think about it, while helping others, don t you also help yourself? Like you can say, hey I am
going to help at a homeless shelter because I feel altruistic today. A part of you is lying to yourself;
you are going to a homeless shelter because yes, you feel like helping others, but you are also helping
yourself feel good, which is an act of being self interested. The reason why people help others is
because it makes them feel good. It can vary anything from relieving stress to feeling guilty for
something so they do something nice, like help others, which makes them believe they have a higher
chance of going to heaven. Other people help others to be seen as a hero although none of these
examples are true definition of the existence of

The Importance Of Environmental Consciousness
In recent days, certainly, the term environmental consciousness is one of the most utilized in various
degrees in our society. It being in a conference of international leaders or a local neighborhood
meeting, the matter of being environmentally and ecologically conscient became a mandatory
measure. In a general sense, being conscious towards environmental issues is described as the ability
to comprehend the environment one habits in, the actions and relationships among it, and the impacts
the caused by a short or long term. Such consciousness is only felt as complete once the perception
that such actions are much greater than a local, it impacts the planet and the environment in question.
In order to diminish the human environmental impact, we need to rethink our actions and its possible
consequences.
Additionally, another aspect of acquiring such consciousness is the search for information. After all,
awareness and knowledge are subjects profoundly interrelated. For instance, in recent days it is
brought to the fact that cars are released pollutant gases, as industries.Yet that the most developed and
consumerist countries are the ones that release most pollutant gases that contribute to the greenhouse
effect. The understanding that the amount of waste produced is also a major issue and it produces
affects the environmental balance.
However, being aware of such knowledge does not mean being environmentally conscious. Such can
have minimal utility when not transformed

How Does Ll Cool J And Ice T s Body Language, Clothing,...
African American Men
African American men have been known for being more violent and less successful than other race.
For instance, African American men who are involved in a gang bang, or that drop out of school are
most likely classified as people who are not serious, and do not have a bright future ahead of them. I
chose these two portraits because one of them, portrait how society sees African American men as
forceful and destructive, and the other portrait shows a successful African American man that society
doesn t pay much attention to. LL Cool J looks very intelligent in his portrait compared to Ice T who
displays himself as a dangerous person. LL Cool J and Ice T are both successful African American
actors and Rappers well known in the entertainment industry. LL Cool J and Ice T s Body language,
clothing, and setting portray them as men who demand respect from people to preserve their manhood.
Kehinde Wiley is known for painting high profile tough African American men to look very powerful
and influence. The two portraits of LL Cool J and Ice T portrayed by Kehinde Wiley in 2005, compare
and contrast as both men expose their strength of manhood through their body language. Both men
look very serious and unpleasant in their portraits. LL Cool J is sitting very comfortable with his legs

Kraft and Cadbury Merger
Kraft Cadbury Merger Just 27 months ago Kraft and Cadbury, two of the most exclusive firms in the
snack production industry consummated the final merger decision after negotiating for several
months. This essay lays out why this merger came to fruition and the reasons it made strategic sense
financially. Also, I evaluate numbers from the acquisition, as well and performance over the past
couple of years. One of the main aspects to analyze are the financial statements after the merger as
well as accounting methodology. Synopsis of Kraft and Cadbury Kraft Foods Inc., also known as
KFT, is the highest volume food processing company in the world. In the year 2009, KFT posted over
40 billion dollars in generated revenue. They also sell products in over 160 countries worldwide.
Some of their most popular brands include Philly Cream Cheese, Maxwell House Coffees and
flavorings, Nabisco, and their mayonnaise, likely the most recognized. Many types of cheeses,
packages and frozen meals, breads and candies are all under the Kraft Foods, Inc umbrella. This
makes them a very hot commodity for investors, as juggernauts such as Warren Buffett owns about
9.4% of Kraft stock. They are a global phenomenon with over 110,000 employees across the world

Lifetime Value of Customer
Lifetime Value of Customer The firm chosen to analyze is Anugraha Jewellers. The company was
incorporated in 1994. The company is based in India and it manufactures and sells gold jewellery. The
lifetime value of a customer is an essential metric for business owners who wish to capture the profits
associated with customer loyalty. The process starts by collecting data on existing customers and then
extrapolating that data to predict the value of potential customers. For the present company under
study, financial data were collected (Moneycontrol.com, 2012) and used as applicable to evaluate
some metrics related to customer lifetime value. The total number of customers is not usually listed on
these financial statements so per customer calculations are restricted. Many companies focus on
getting new customers and while new customers help to ensure the growth of the company, they may
not be as profitable as the returning customers since there is a cost to acquiring new customers. The
revenue per customer is tracked by determining the average amount spent per purchase by the
customer. Since the firm under study is custom jewellery this data may be easily tracked. The profit
and loss statement shows sales for successive twelve month periods. The revenue per customer is
obtained by dividing the revenue by the average number of customers. The profit per customer may be
obtained once certain other data are collected. For example the cost per new customer may be
determined

Falling Down Sequence
The opening sequence in the film Falling Down portrays how everyday activities can take a turn for
the worst. It begins with the main character William Foster stuck in a traffic jam on the highway
caused by construction. The first shot that opens the scene is an extreme close up of Foster s face,
which allows the audience to see him in great detail. We see by his heavy breathing and sweat
dripping down his face that he is in a hot environment. The camera starts to zoom out and go into a
tracking shot, which allows us to see the environment that surrounds him. This is also an establishing
shot. The car directly in front of Foster has a young girl starring out the back window towards him.

As the scene progresses, you see how each event is causing Foster s temper to rise and his patience to
grow thinner. Foster constantly plays with his AC unit, which is broken, reinforcing that the
temperature outside is hot. Another factor adding to his frustration is the fly stuck in his car. It is
buzzing around him and repeatedly landing on his neck causing him to keep swatting at it. The usage
of quick cuts gives the impression of tension building up for the character throughout the scene. This
gives off the impression that something worse is constantly happening to Foster and he is unable to
escape his uncomfortable reality. The AC breaking, window roller broken, kids screaming, cars
honking and the heat wave itself are all shown so quickly so that the viewer is seeing that everything
is being thrown at Foster at once and that he is starting to feel very claustrophobic and cannot seem to
escape it. When everything hits its peak he decides to quickly get out of his vehicle, which serves as
his escape as the music and sounds subside to a normal level and he is now calmer and decides to just

Hoefler Co.

Some fonts are created on a custom basis for editorial, institutional, and corporate clients while others
are designed for immediate sale to the public. They work with brand leaders in every sector,
developing original typefaces for print, web, and mobile environments, and licensing fonts from our
library of more than one thousand designs.

With the original design created as a serif font, this image shows the array of different styles one font

gives this typeface a formal and traditional style with an artistic flair of more ornamental design. I
chose this font as a representation because it holds many similar characteristics to Times New Roman,
which almost everyone is familiar with and/or has used. The letter Q caught my attention, as well as
the individual design of the numbers to accompany the letters as shown by the 16 towards the middle
of the image. Hoefler Co. is consistently creating typefaces we use on a regular basis, and may not

much of what is communicated is through letters or images that are inspired by letters. Logos, word
marks, symbols, and font all make up the world of graphic design, and without companies like Hoefler

The Island Of Dr. Moreau Analysis
People look to religion for answers. Why was I put on this Earth and for what purpose? The beast
people are asking the same question. Dr. Moreau answers their calls. He created the creatures by
performing vivisection and science experimentations. They worship him. Dr. Moreau is a godly figure
to the creatures. Moreau s godly figuratism on the island is similar to a religion. In the novel The
Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells, the creatures look to Dr. Moreau as their creator and their God by
singing about Moreau, their fear of his power, and where the story takes place. Moreau brainwashes
the animals to strip them of their animalistic ways by embedding the rules of the island in their chant.
This chant is similar to the bible God s disciples wrote in the form of verses to show examples of how
religious people should live their lives if they want to live on with God in eternity and go to Heaven.
Not to go on all Fours; that is the Law. Are we not Men? Not to suck up drink; that is the Law. Are we

the maker and healer in their eyes. The island is an enclosed space where Moreau can be superior.
There isn t anybody there that can take the power away from him. Even when Moreau dies, his

A Wrinkle In Time Analysis
A Wrinkle in Time was written by Madeleine L Engle, an award winning John Newberry Medal
author. She was born on November 29, 1918, wrote the book A Wrinkle in Time that became
published in 1962. Following that, L Engle wrote the sequels which included A Wind in Door, A Swift
Tilting Planet, Many Waters, and An Acceptable Time. In the novel, Margaret Meg Murry, Charles
Wallace Murry, and Calvin O Keefe are given a task which leads them to save Meg s father, Mr.
Murry. Throughout their journey, they face many sources of evil. The evils that they face in the novel
are The Black Thing, The Man with Red Eyes, and IT. Even though there are evil forces in their
expedition, the three children, Mr. Murry, the Mrs. W s, and more people they meet are good who are
all working against the strong, and overpowering darkness of the evil to conquer it. One of the first
evil forces the kids and the Mrs. W s run into is The Black Thing. They first run into it whenever they
are leaving the earth s atmosphere. Meg looked. The dark shadow was still there. It had not lessened
or dispersed with the coming of night. And where the shadow was the stars were not visible. What
could there be about a shadow that was so terrifying that she knew that there had never been before or
ever would be again, anything that would chill her with a fear that was beyond shuddering, beyond
crying or screaming, beyond the possibility of comfort? (L Engle 81). The Black Thing obviously

American Attitudes Toward Homelessness
Over the past 15 years, homelessness has been one of the more noticeable social problems in the
United States, but . With tens of thousands of homeless on the streets or in temporary housing
situations on any given night and no near term end in sight, finding ways to best support the homeless
becomes paramount to the well being of the homeless (Zaff, 2010). Although there are some
suggestions that American attitudes toward homelessness have hardened over time, there have not
been adequate experiments to back up this claim. According to (Daves Kingree, 1997) older people
hold less stigmatizing attitudes when it came to homeless people. When it came to college students
however, the findings were quite different. (Ostrow, 1995) states that as for students, self

How Did Winston Churchill Shaped Europe
Everything has a history, and Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill played one of the biggest in
Europe s. Born November 30, 1874 in Oxfordshire, England he experienced a tough childhood, but no
doubt did he prosper to do great things for his country. At a time of chaos during World War II,
Winston Churchill brought strategic ideas and courage to defeat one of Europe s greatest, yet worst
leaders, Adolf Hitler. Churchill was a british statesman, army officer, writer, and served as Prime
Minister for the United Kingdom from 1940 1945 and then again from 1951 1955. Winston Churchill

becoming scared, Germany was invading and taking over territory after territory in Europe. Something

came with it. She struggled with her identity from in her family, as a mother, to also her identity in her
career. Since her pain was so excruciating at times, she separated herself from those closest to her, and
became a hermit for periods of time. She experimented with every drug regimen the doctors
prescribed. She even tried marijuana. Some doctors suggested nerve blocks to lessen the pain. As
doctors tried to find what was causing the severity of her pain more tests were run. After some blood
work was done they found she was very deficient in her nutrients and vitamins. Doctors could not
decide, what the primary factor in causing this new onset of pain was. It was undetermined if the pain
was caused by physiological or psychological. In a search for a doctor to fix her she met a

pain, more narcotics were given. The struggle with drugs prescribed, the side effects and knowing

Germany as a country was hard hit by the effects of the war with the years to follow seeing the

was facing many sanctions imposed by the Allied Forces through the Versailles Treaty. After serving
in the First World War I, he resigned his military career to join the German Worker s Party where he

National sozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (Nazi). Hitler took this as the right platform to get
more power in Germany to oppose the influence of the Allied Forces in Germany. He underwent a lot
of power struggles as he tried to mobilize popular support for the Nazi party. It was until 1932 when
the party gunned a total of 37% of the votes in the election which was largest share of votes in the
election. This meant Hitler was a leader of unimaginable power within the Nazi party and Germany
and by 1933, he was the chancellor of Germany. After the death of President Hindenburg in 1934,

The Maine Lobster Festival is located in the western part of the state and is known for their delicious
lobster, lobster type foods, and the World s Largest Lobster Cooker. There is roughly 80,000 people
that visit this festival every year because it won an award in a magazine stating it was one of the best
food themed festivals in the world. I remember the first time I tried lobster, before, I was very
suspicious about sea food but my friend recommended that I try it and I have loved it since. Lobster is
known for being a high class meal, but in the 1800 s it was fed to the low class and inmates. Some
states even made it a law that they cannot have lobster more than once a week because it is considered
cruel and unusual punishment. In Maine,

Capitalism, Racism, Exploitation, And War
Capitalism, I assert is a domineering worldwide system that has allowed for the cultivation of racism,
exploitation and war to exceed through the economic and ideologies of capitalism. The emergence is
compassed through relations and mode of production and projected onto the superstructures of politics
and constructing mental production for accomplishing the aims of the system. The accomplishment
comes at ease through globalisation to expand ideas of labour theory value and division of labour and
hence allows for the firm grip on granting generations of exploitation, war and racism.

For Marx he states From each according to his ability,to each according to his need is conceptually
related to the concept of a division of labour allows for specialisation as an intrinsic part of the
economic system and the concept is associated with the capitalist system. For Smith categorising
individual skills is the greatest potential for economic growth and he is interested in a free economic

With this categorisation of states and individuals there is a silent rupture of racism, and the
categorisation is placed through into the economic system. Third world countries are not poor because
they have lagged behind the transformation or the enlightenment values of the European state. Its due
to the colonial expansion, countries were integrated into European economic system as producers of
raw materials and serve as cheap labourers and through the tools of power and globalisation it is still
continued. The power during colonialism was the weapons that forced large populations to adapt a
new way of life depicting western culture and values and yet is still placed at the bottom of the
societal pyramid. The idea of degrading positions in the social economic system has developed
throughout the world and is reflected in state apparatus structures and the global capitalist structure by
making racism a by product. Even in western nations certain historical skills are associated with the

unregulated speech. Many campuses are forming regulations on speech codes, others choose to remain

If they liked Bush, we made them register to vote. But not if they liked Gore (Dolgow). The same
cannot occur on a college campus, however the fear remains on how information of others can be used
or the manipulation of first amendment can be used in a college setting. The fact remains that there is
a substantial difference between a corporation and a university. Universities are meant to be a place of
learning and just like science is able to accept new theories, we should be willing to accept new ideas.
Building tolerance as a community allows us to embrace unpopular ideas. That being said, there is
very good reasons to protect offensive or unpopular speech. During the 1950 s, minority groups didn t
have the right to vote and civil rights movements sprung across the country. Voting right activists in
the South experienced various forms of mistreatment and violence. One such event on March 7, 1965,
when peaceful participants in a voting rights march from Selma, Alabama, to the state capital in
Montgomery were met by Alabama state troopers who attacked them with nightsticks, tear gas and
whips after they refused to turn back ( Voting Rights Act ). One can conclude, based on the reactions,
the decision to call in the state troopers and the state troopers attacking the protestors, that these
individuals found the protest offensive and threatening their values of white supremacy. Therefore,
should we banned offensive or popular speech solely on the fact that

Richard Graff s Hidden Intellectualism, By Gerald Graff
Contained within Gerald Graff s, Hidden Intellectualism, are several eye opening ideas. Graff main
point in his essay, is that non intellectual topics can be written or talked about in an academic way.
Graff uses his past stating that he has street smarts, and that it was a form knowledge. In a way, he
negatively scrutinizes the public education for overlooking the intellect of those who aren t skilled
academically. One thing that I believe is very fundamental is that he says, They would be more prone
to take on intellectual identities if we encouraged them to do so at first on subjects that interest them
rather than ones that interest us. He puts it plain and simple that you can take street topics and make
them into intellectual debates. Sport uniforms created by Nike are feats of technology, football
uniforms on the collegiate have reinvented the game. Graff stats, Sports after all was full of
challenging arguments, debates, problems for analysis. For example, some teams wear different
uniforms every week, how does this impact the way athletes perform. Sometimes the colors or style
someone makes their mental game change. This is a topic that can lead to heated debates and scientific
analysis. One collegiate football team that changes uniforms almost every week is the The Oregon
Ducks. They are always integrating the newest and best technology, which is designed by Nike to help
their players perform better. Oregon is somewhat privileged, because the co founder of

The Theme of Deception in Hamlet by William Shakespeare Essay
The Theme of Deception in Hamlet by William Shakespeare One must always be weary of the truth
because it is quite often manipulated to serve the needs of any person who requires that the truth be on
their side. Quite often, the only way to discern the truth from the fiction is by way of a deceptive act,
because an act of deception always exposes both its self and the truth to be two quite different things.
Nowhere is this more true than in William Shakespeare s, Hamlet. One of the major themes in the play
is in fact, deception. This central theme is expressed throughout the play in three major forms: the fear
of being deceived, the act of deception, and the ultimate result of the deceptive act. The first facet of

To learn the truth of Hamlet s actions, Claudius entreats upon Rosencrantz and Guildenstern (two of
Hamlet s oldest friends) to investigate the situation: Some little time; so by your companies To draw
him on to pleasures, and to gather So much as from occasions you may glean, Whether aught to us
unknown afflicts him thus That, opened, lies within our remedy. (II:2, ll 14 18) Claudius, at this early
point in the play, is slightly nervous of Hamlet s state of mind. Although Hamlet has not yet done or
said anything that distinctly proves that he knows of Claudius wrongdoing, Claudius is still
suspicious. Ironically, he is worried about being deceived by Hamlet, so he sends two of his friends to
spy him to learn what is bothering him. Laertes expresses a further example of the fear of deceit in his
conversation to Ophelia regarding Hamlet: His greatness weigh d, his will is not his own; For he
himself is subject to his birth. He may not, as unvalued persons do, Carve for himself, for on his
choice depends The safety and health of his whole state, (I:3, ll 17 21) Laertes fears that Hamlet is not
sincere in his love for Ophelia. He tells her that since he is of royal blood, he is not free to choose his
own wife. The court and other royals must decide who is the best choice to be queen, for the safety of
Denmark. Hamlet knows this to be true, and therefore, any sign of love that he gives her must be false.

For the assignment I am to choose one poem and one work of fantasy from two different cultural
traditions. Choosing the fantasy was easy, but choosing the poem was a little difficult for me. For the
poem, I chose High Flight by John Gillespie Magee, Jr. The poem was listed in our textbook as a
sonnet. A sonnet is a very old form of poetry, having gained prominence during the Renaissance
period. It is also very sophisticated form and therefore not found much in poetry for children(Russell,
Chapter 6, 2009). A sonnet contains fourteen lines; each line with five iambic feet or ten syllables. The

The writer used fantasy to describe what it might be like in heaven and all things you can do in
heaven. I think the fact that this is a poem is great. Poems are a good way to appeal to people.
Especially in the world today. Poems do not take that much time to read or comprehend. They are
simple and get the point across in a fun way. After reading this poem I think it represents kinesthetic
images because kinesthetic images refers to actions or motions. The work of fantasy I chose is Peter
and Wendy. A fantasy is any story of the impossible. Peter and Wendy is a fantasy story that is now
called Peter Pan. Peter is a boy who does not want to grow up. He flew into Wendy s room and lost his
shadow. Once they found his shadow Wendy sewed it back on so he would not loose it again. While
getting his shadow sewn back on Peter began telling Wendy and her siblings stories of Neverland. He
told them that in Neverland you never have to grow up. Wendy and her siblings wanted to go with
Peter. Peter sprinkled them with pixie dust and they all flew to Neverland where they met The Lost
Boys, Captain Hook, and Tiger Lilly. Their journey to Neverland was filled with action and fantasy. In
my opinion this fantasy would be considered a journey fantasy because they all go on a journey to
Neverland. It can also be considered a magical fantasy because people do not really fly. I think

Example Of Syncretism
The term syncretism refers to the process of amalgamation of conflicting principles and cultural
practices among two or more religions. This concept syncretism plays an important role in the rise of
secular nation states. In India the scene is such that at one hand, we encourage for the unity in
diversity and on the other to find more about the differences among groups to indicate certain
uniqueness. This strategy in a religious context can be a form of resistance for cultural dominance and
certain power to be established over the so called minority groups. Though each group or community

My House, And Household Apples
After analyzing the five sections beginning with My House and Household Apples we can infer that
the entire story is about people longing for love and looking for a life that s always blossoming and
full of hope, only to find this dream dashed. In fact, we can infer this from the recurring themes and
images that are portrayed throughout these sections. Like, the images of the trees and how the narrator
describes them as not only beautiful but also as if they present a sense of endless opportunities. This
idea is dashed though in the Household Apple s section when the man failed to spray the trees to
prevent bugs from swarming them and the fruit they were grew. They [flies] were everywhere the fruit
was: in the tree still apples like a hive for them or where the fruit littered the ground, squashing itself
as you stepped...there was no help for it. The flies droned, feasting on the sweet juice. No one could
go near the trees; I could not climb; (Gass 17). The man can no longer climb the tree like he once did
in which he saw the country sail away from him, and figuratively speaking the span of opportunities
presented to him. Thus, the flies consuming the trees and preventing anyone from going near them is
used to illustrate the end of these endless opportunities, of hope. Additionally, themes involving love
and loneliness stand out. We particularly see this when it says, No one notices, when they walk by,
that I am brimming in the doorways...To anybody else it s

The Symphony Orchestra At The Usf Concert Hall
On the afternoon of November 23rd, there was a performance by the USF Symphony Orchestra at the
USF Concert Hall. Their performance, which was masterful from beginning to end, featured guest
artists Jay Hunsberger on the tuba and Dolly Roberts on the harp. The performance began with
Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copland, a piece that started with a bang. The pang of a gong,
and the beat of the drums, immediately captured and captivated the audience from the start. The slow
build that led up to the trumpets and other brass instruments folding in, possessed an almost
militaristic feel. Upon looking into the composer, it was no wonder why the triumphant sounds
produced by the brass instruments came off as militaristic. Copland composed the piece during World
War II. According to Elizabeth Bergman Crist, Copland: . . . committed himself to creating music at
once unabashedly modern he committed himself to creating music at once unabashedly modern and
identifiably American. The desire to be American was symptomatic of the period, he wrote in a later
reminiscence. He recalled being anxious to write a work that would immediately be recognized as
American in character and so turned to jazz as an easy way to be American in musical terms. ( Music
for the Common Man: Aaron Copland During the Depression and War, p. 3). It is obvious that
Copland accomplished his goal of creating American music. Fanfare for the Common Man is an

The Rise Of Christianity With Charlemagne
The Rise of Christianity with Charlemagne
Through a series of events, Charles Magnus the Great became well known by the French version of
his name, Charlemagne. Charlemagne was famous for his aggressive spirit, accessibility, and an
efficient manager. Most of all, there was no denial that during his reign, Charlemagne was Champion
of Christianity (McClintock, 220 222). The leadership of Charlemagne began in a controversial period
during the rise of Christianity. Before Charlemagne s time, the Roman Empire fell, causing the
division of Western Europe into kingdoms, including the Franks. The Franks were a group of
Germanic peoples, unruly barbarians, from lowlands east and north of the Roman Empire that
outlasted predictions of a short kingdom (McKay, 227). After the division, the people faced conflicts
and confusion and searched for unity and order. Christianity spread rapidly and met the needs of the
people who had once been part of Rome and her empire (Spielvogel, 361). Christianity, even with all
of the hardships, spread throughout Britain between A.D. 325 and A.D. 600. Over time, people from
every class were tired of war and feared the empire s end. Thus, they were drawn to admire Christians
and their faith (Spielvogel, 354). Charles the Great, son of King Pepin of the Franks, began his throne
after the death of his father (r. 768 814). During his rule, Charlemagne not only achieved many

The sustainability of an average family in Nigeria is valued at less than 5 dollars a day.
Notwithstanding the government s preposition on the establishment of a health care system that is
promotive, protective, preventive, restorative and rehabilitative to every citizen of the country within
the available resources so that individuals and communities are assured of productivity, social well
being and enjoyment of living (F.M.H. 1988), the system, as is currently practiced is very inadequate
in comparison to the Nigerian growing population and slow paced economic development. According
to the health manpower statistics, the ratio of the registered medical doctors as against the population s
need is put at 1:1,100 with modern medical facilities being administered in mega cities and little or
none made available at the rural areas. As a result of lack of supervision or adequate provision for the
essential needs of medical practitioners, doctors often times are faced with the conscientious decision
to commute to the rural areas to administer Medicare on out of pocket expenses, which after a while

Robin Hood Cultural Influences
The story of Robin Hood, the famous archer and advocate for the poor, has been adapted into
hundreds of books, films, and television series. However, Robin Hood was not always depicted as a
beloved hero, stealing from the rich and redistributing to the poor. In fact, many early representations
of Robin Hood characterize him as a morally ambiguous, primarily self interested yeoman. Regardless
of the highly varying interpretations of the character, Robin Hood s adventures seem to resonate with

This has led to a multitude of suggested identities for Robin Hood. One primary candidate for the real
Robin Hood was Robert Hobbehod, a fugitive of the early 13th century. Sir J.C. Holt, an English
medieval historian, supports this theory as the most likely origin of Robin Hood, pointing to
similarities between Hobbehod and the Robin Hood described in one of his earliest depictions, A Gest
of Robyn Hode:
He was an outlaw. He lived at a time to which several incidental features of the Gest point and in
which the main topics of the Gest were major problems for the lesser landowning class. Within four
years of the first reference to Hobbe and in areas which included the very county from which he is
known to have come, there was an active outburst of Robin Hood like activities led by men of this
class. If we are to point at all to a historical Robin, Hobbehod s claims are at present

Impact Of Sociobiology On Theology
9. Discuss sociobiology and its possible impacts on theology. (10 points) Sociobiology is the scientific
study of the biological (especially ecological and evolutionary) aspects of social behavior in animals
and humans. The implications of sociobiology for theology are developed with respect to the general
impact of basic evolutionary ideas, the reductionist assumptions of sociobiologists, whether or not
survival can be a value, and more holistic accounts of the physical and biological grounding of the
mental and spiritual lives of human beings. An often heard criticism of sociobiology accuses it of
justifying existing injustices. For example, opponents say sociobiology supports the belief that people
of darker skin color are intellectually inferior to those with lighter skin. Additionally, opponents
suggest that following what sociobiology says is human nature only continues the injustices. In reality,
sociobiology really does not support this interpretation. Biological inclinations contain what many
would consider both altruistic and evil. To discriminate between them and to emphasize the more
appropriate is the task of social reflection. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, he continues, no one knows the actual connections between genes and behavior, nor do they know
how genes tell a person what to do. A response could be that this is a question for future research. But
this response is weak, as it can be applied to almost every argument in existence. Peacocke also points
to ethical codes not being uniform. Sometimes the ethical codes oppose what biology would require
leaving these ethical codes as inadequate where they encounter biology. Thus, morality cannot really
be thought of as being produced mechanically by biology. Each culture can add to and change the
basic biological norms, even making the resulting morals oppose their original

The Effect of Marriage on a Woman of the Victorian Period
Kate Chopin Author Kate Chopin is considered a feminine author because most of her stories feature a
plot about a turn of the twentieth century woman who is struggling against the restrictions of the
gender biases of her period. At this time in history women were socially insignificant. They were not
allowed to have any real power but instead were relegated to the private sphere. A woman s only role
in life at the time was as wife and mother. Any ambition outside of these roles was considered
abnormal and a proper woman of society would never dream of trying to move beyond their assigned
gender roles. This of course is not natural and Chopin writes stories where socially repressed women
illustrate their true need within for independence and freedom beyond what society says is
appropriate. The female character s need for independence in Kate Chopin s writing is evident in two
of her published short stories, The Story of an Hour and The Storm. In The Story of an Hour a woman
named Louise Mallard learns that her husband has been killed in a horrific train accident. Her loved
ones are immediately concerned that this news will be too much for poor Louise to bear. Louise
suffers from a heart ailment, which in the Victorian period made her only more attractive as a society
wife because she was fragile and physically impaired and no woman should strive to be strong or
healthy. Unexpectedly, the news of her husband s demise is not upsetting to Louise but instead she

This water remains standing in the fields for a couple of months and increases the humidity index of
the region drastically. Then the Monsoon rains start lashing the area and further increase the humidity
index. Since, it is peak summer times with temperatures shooting up to 50o Celsius, so the capacity of
air to hold water particles is manifolds as compared to cold winter season. The overall effect of all
these different physiographic factors is creation of a giant hot air bubble engulfing the area with a lot
of humidity trapped inside of it. These extreme physiographic conditions test the limits of man and
machine alike which are already being tested by the high G (gravity) forces experienced during the
aerobatics phase.
The MFI 17 aircraft is a small trainer aircraft with a piston engine that is air cooled. It has a limited
rated horsepower of 200 HP. There is no environment control (air condition) facility installed in the
aircraft. During the summer cum Monsoon season, the aircraft is subjected to extreme weather
conditions which affect its performance and maintenance. At the same time, the aerobatics phase also
starts. During the aerobatics phase, the aircraft and the pilot are subjected to G forces up to +5 Gs and
2 Gs. During aerobatics, the aircraft is turned, rolled, and maneuvered through the air through various
flying attitudes. Since, the aircraft is flown by under training pilots, therefore it is subjected to further

Escalation Of Tea Trade From 1700 To 1750
e escalation of tea importation and sales over the period 1690 to 1750 is mirrored closely by the
increase in importation and sales of cane sugar: the British were not drinking just tea but sweet tea.
[28] Thus, two of Britain s trading triangles converged: the sugar sourced from Britain s trading

Britain, India and China.[28]
In China, the Qing dynasty Qianlong Emperor decreed that China was the center of the world and had
everything they could ever need, so all trade with foreigners must be paid for in silver! [disputed

Big Bend Rocks
Geology of the Big Bend (Rocks)
The only types of rocks found in Big Bend National park are Sedimentary (N.P). The specific names

Cherty Limestone are found in this park (N.P). These rocks were likely abundant throughout the park;

  • 2. Memory And Memory Of Computers Memory Have you ever wanted to know how certain files, documents and so on are being saved and what led this to occur? The memory of computers is quite fascinating and there is so much that goes into saving something on a computer. There are different types of memory that is found on computers that is needed to make things work and that would be acceptable to the user. The main two that is quite known in the computer world would be Primary and Secondary memory. There are 2 types that make up the Primary memory and that would be Random Access Memory (RAM) and Read only memory (ROM). The secondary memory consists of a hard disk drive, flash drive and zip drive. There are also optical discs that are included. One thing that is special in terms of computers would be the Primary memory. Primary memory is divided into 2 types. The first type would be random access memory. RAM is in charge of keeping data in a stored area so that it can be reached by the processor when necessary. RAM does a really good job at laying away data in such a random basis. An article from the PC World have shown that in this generation RAM has increased tremendously; it is said that A review of systems that the PC World test center has grown from a little over 90 MB to about 2 GB, spiking whenever Microsoft releases a new version of Windows (Stafford pg. 84). It highlights basic issues such as constructivism, eLearning, blended learning and Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS) definitions, purposes, and advantages. It also reviews previous research that relevant to the use of Blackboard in blended language environment in higher education. Introduction Constructivism is a theory of knowing and a way of examining how humans learn (Fosnot, 1996). Constructivist learning theory pertains to the engendering and constructing of knowledge based on one s experience (Vygotsky 1978). The Constructivist theory of Jerome Bruner (1996) provides the learner with opportunities to reflect on their experiences. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The limited time and the expanded classes usually hamper the effectiveness of learning and teaching of language. The result is an increase in the demand to construct a learning environment for language in both the traditional and non traditional modes that foster autonomous learning in an out of classroom setting. The presumption with this notion is that traditional classroom teaching is inadequate in making students hone their independent skills for language learning. Technology based language learning firmly adheres to the ideology that asserts that learners must develop their goals throughout their learning process and to be capable of planning and reflecting, as well as directing, their respective learning experiences (Chang, ... But this is why drones are bad for society and that they can be used for a lot of scary stuff that can be used against you. • 5. Comparing The Robber Bridegroom And The Grimm Brothers Fairy tales possess the ability to last throughout the decades. The stories are passed down from generations and teach valuable lessons in extraordinary ways. In fact, most fairy tales began with oral storytelling. However, The Grimm Brothers made multiple editions of tales that they claimed as their own. With over 200 fairy tales, not all of their stories gained the same amount of popularity. Their more prominent stories, such as Cinderella and Snow White, create a sense of whimsy with talking animals and love. In contrast, The Robber Bridegroom, a lesser known fairy tale, focuses on dark ideas: cannibalism and murder. Grimm stories usually contain the standard characters of a fairy tale. In a normal fairy tale, the characters include the fool, the fairy, the wicked crone, the charming prince, and the beautiful damsel (Heckel). While not all of these characters are always included, most stories contain some combination of them. These characters help make the iconic setup that makes the story popular. For instance, the famous fairy tale Snow White shows off a wicked crone, a charming prince, and the beautiful damsel. Snow White escapes her evil queen mother and ends up with her prince ( Snow White ). In Snow White, the ideal structure is in place; everything comes together and it has a joyful ending. However, in The Robber Bridegroom, there is no charming prince or a standard wicked crone ( The Robber ). The daughter is left to defend herself against the suitor and she does not end up with love. The archetypal characters are not only missing, but the standard theme of love is not present anywhere within the story. • 6. Acid Base Balance Research Paper Abstract In this essay I will be discussing four conditions: respiratory acidosis, respiratory alkalosis, metabolic acidosis and metabolic alkalosis. I will be defining each condition by including the levels of PCO2 or HCO3 and the pH levels, common causes for each condition, the compensatory mechanism for each condition, treatment mechanisms for each condition, and how older age may compromise the acid base balance processes. Acid Base Balances and Fluids and Electrolytes This is the most common challenge to acid base balance develops when the respiratory system can t eliminate all the CO2 generated by the peripheral tissues. CO2 is the single biggest influence on acid base balance in the body, because it is generated as a metabolic waste product 24/7 by virtually every body cell. Primary symptom is ... • 7. Examples Of Altruism In I Am Legend Even though selflessness will always be driven by serving one s values, feelings, or desires which is ultimately serving you, altruism does exist. Altruism exists when it requires a person to sacrifice for another without consideration of personal gain because not every act has a selfish motive. People must learn to contribute to life through objective reality because it universalizes existence. Everyday life is filled with small acts of altruism. Or maybe altruism does involve being self interested after all. Some of the things that one does do not always mean they are selfish. Let s use the movie, I am Legend starring Will Smith as an example. Robert Neville (Will Smith) lives in New York and although he had the chance to leave with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To be honest, I know my essay is crap. I completely suck at philosophy and I don t know many things. But I do know that being altruistic means also being selfish. Third world countries probably view America as an altruistic hero because they basically help fight wars for other people. But as Arundhati Roy said, Wars are never fought for altruistic reasons. Yes, soldiers do sacrifice their lives fighting, but it s not (mostly) because they are altruistic, but because it s their way of paying rent . The definition of altruism is the belief in or practice of disinterested and selfless concern for the well being of others. But think about it, while helping others, don t you also help yourself? Like you can say, hey I am going to help at a homeless shelter because I feel altruistic today. A part of you is lying to yourself; you are going to a homeless shelter because yes, you feel like helping others, but you are also helping yourself feel good, which is an act of being self interested. The reason why people help others is because it makes them feel good. It can vary anything from relieving stress to feeling guilty for something so they do something nice, like help others, which makes them believe they have a higher chance of going to heaven. It being in a conference of international leaders or a local neighborhood meeting, the matter of being environmentally and ecologically conscient became a mandatory measure. In a general sense, being conscious towards environmental issues is described as the ability to comprehend the environment one habits in, the actions and relationships among it, and the impacts the caused by a short or long term. Such consciousness is only felt as complete once the perception that such actions are much greater than a local, it impacts the planet and the environment in question. In order to diminish the human environmental impact, we need to rethink our actions and its possible consequences. Additionally, another aspect of acquiring such consciousness is the search for information. After all, awareness and knowledge are subjects profoundly interrelated. For instance, in recent days it is brought to the fact that cars are released pollutant gases, as industries.Yet that the most developed and consumerist countries are the ones that release most pollutant gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect. The understanding that the amount of waste produced is also a major issue and it produces affects the environmental balance. • 11. Lifetime Value of Customer Lifetime Value of Customer The firm chosen to analyze is Anugraha Jewellers. The company was incorporated in 1994. The company is based in India and it manufactures and sells gold jewellery. The lifetime value of a customer is an essential metric for business owners who wish to capture the profits associated with customer loyalty. The process starts by collecting data on existing customers and then extrapolating that data to predict the value of potential customers. For the present company under study, financial data were collected (Moneycontrol.com, 2012) and used as applicable to evaluate some metrics related to customer lifetime value. The total number of customers is not usually listed on these financial statements so per customer calculations are restricted. Many companies focus on getting new customers and while new customers help to ensure the growth of the company, they may not be as profitable as the returning customers since there is a cost to acquiring new customers. The revenue per customer is tracked by determining the average amount spent per purchase by the customer. Since the firm under study is custom jewellery this data may be easily tracked. The profit and loss statement shows sales for successive twelve month periods. The revenue per customer is obtained by dividing the revenue by the average number of customers. The profit per customer may be obtained once certain other data are collected. For example the cost per new customer may be determined ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This gives off the impression that something worse is constantly happening to Foster and he is unable to escape his uncomfortable reality. The AC breaking, window roller broken, kids screaming, cars honking and the heat wave itself are all shown so quickly so that the viewer is seeing that everything is being thrown at Foster at once and that he is starting to feel very claustrophobic and cannot seem to escape it. The Theme of Deception in Hamlet by William Shakespeare Essay The Theme of Deception in Hamlet by William Shakespeare One must always be weary of the truth because it is quite often manipulated to serve the needs of any person who requires that the truth be on their side. Quite often, the only way to discern the truth from the fiction is by way of a deceptive act, because an act of deception always exposes both its self and the truth to be two quite different things. Nowhere is this more true than in William Shakespeare s, Hamlet. One of the major themes in the play is in fact, deception. This central theme is expressed throughout the play in three major forms: the fear of being deceived, the act of deception, and the ultimate result of the deceptive act. (II:2, ll 14 18) Claudius, at this early point in the play, is slightly nervous of Hamlet s state of mind. Although Hamlet has not yet done or said anything that distinctly proves that he knows of Claudius wrongdoing, Claudius is still suspicious. Ironically, he is worried about being deceived by Hamlet, so he sends two of his friends to spy him to learn what is bothering him. Laertes expresses a further example of the fear of deceit in his conversation to Ophelia regarding Hamlet: His greatness weigh d, his will is not his own; For he himself is subject to his birth. • 30. My House, And Household Apples After analyzing the five sections beginning with My House and Household Apples we can infer that the entire story is about people longing for love and looking for a life that s always blossoming and full of hope, only to find this dream dashed. In fact, we can infer this from the recurring themes and images that are portrayed throughout these sections. Like, the images of the trees and how the narrator describes them as not only beautiful but also as if they present a sense of endless opportunities. This idea is dashed though in the Household Apple s section when the man failed to spray the trees to prevent bugs from swarming them and the fruit they were grew. They [flies] were everywhere the fruit was: in the tree still apples like a hive for them or where the fruit littered the ground, squashing itself as you stepped...there was no help for it. The man can no longer climb the tree like he once did in which he saw the country sail away from him, and figuratively speaking the span of opportunities presented to him. Thus, the flies consuming the trees and preventing anyone from going near them is used to illustrate the end of these endless opportunities, of hope. The pang of a gong, and the beat of the drums, immediately captured and captivated the audience from the start. The slow build that led up to the trumpets and other brass instruments folding in, possessed an almost militaristic feel. Upon looking into the composer, it was no wonder why the triumphant sounds produced by the brass instruments came off as militaristic. Copland composed the piece during World War II. According to Elizabeth Bergman Crist, Copland: . . . committed himself to creating music at once unabashedly modern he committed himself to creating music at once unabashedly modern and identifiably American. The desire to be American was symptomatic of the period, he wrote in a later reminiscence. He recalled being anxious to write a work that would immediately be recognized as American in character and so turned to jazz as an easy way to be American in musical terms. Charlemagne was famous for his aggressive spirit, accessibility, and an efficient manager. The leadership of Charlemagne began in a controversial period during the rise of Christianity. Before Charlemagne s time, the Roman Empire fell, causing the division of Western Europe into kingdoms, including the Franks. The Franks were a group of Germanic peoples, unruly barbarians, from lowlands east and north of the Roman Empire that outlasted predictions of a short kingdom (McKay, 227). After the division, the people faced conflicts and confusion and searched for unity and order. Christianity spread rapidly and met the needs of the people who had once been part of Rome and her empire (Spielvogel, 361). Christianity, even with all of the hardships, spread throughout Britain between A.D. 325 and A.D. 600. Over time, people from every class were tired of war and feared the empire s end. However, Robin Hood was not always depicted as a beloved hero, stealing from the rich and redistributing to the poor. In fact, many early representations of Robin Hood characterize him as a morally ambiguous, primarily self interested yeoman. Regardless of the highly varying interpretations of the character, Robin Hood s adventures seem to resonate with audiences through the ages and the narrative has no doubt had a profound impact on modern day media and culture. Yet, despite this tremendous cultural influence, the roots of the legend of Robin Hood remain largely unknown. There are three predominant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This has led to a multitude of suggested identities for Robin Hood. One primary candidate for the real Robin Hood was Robert Hobbehod, a fugitive of the early 13th century. Sir J.C. Holt, an English medieval historian, supports this theory as the most likely origin of Robin Hood, pointing to similarities between Hobbehod and the Robin Hood described in one of his earliest depictions, A Gest of Robyn Hode: He was an outlaw. He lived at a time to which several incidental features of the Gest point and in which the main topics of the Gest were major problems for the lesser landowning class. Within four years of the first reference to Hobbe and in areas which included the very county from which he is known to have come, there was an active outburst of Robin Hood like activities led by men of this class. If we are to point at all to a historical Robin, Hobbehod s claims are at present ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Impact Of Sociobiology On Theology 9. Discuss sociobiology and its possible impacts on theology. (10 points) Sociobiology is the scientific study of the biological (especially ecological and evolutionary) aspects of social behavior in animals and humans. The implications of sociobiology for theology are developed with respect to the general impact of basic evolutionary ideas, the reductionist assumptions of sociobiologists, whether or not survival can be a value, and more holistic accounts of the physical and biological grounding of the mental and spiritual lives of human beings. An often heard criticism of sociobiology accuses it of justifying existing injustices. For example, opponents say sociobiology supports the belief that people of darker skin color are intellectually inferior to those with lighter skin. Additionally, opponents suggest that following what sociobiology says is human nature only continues the injustices. In reality, sociobiology really does not support this interpretation. Biological inclinations contain what many would consider both altruistic and evil. To discriminate between them and to emphasize the more appropriate is the task of social reflection. ... A response could be that this is a question for future research. But this response is weak, as it can be applied to almost every argument in existence. Peacocke also points to ethical codes not being uniform. Sometimes the ethical codes oppose what biology would require leaving these ethical codes as inadequate where they encounter biology. Thus, morality cannot really be thought of as being produced mechanically by biology. Each culture can add to and change the basic biological norms, even making the resulting morals oppose their original ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Effect of Marriage on a Woman of the Victorian Period Kate Chopin Author Kate Chopin is considered a feminine author because most of her stories feature a plot about a turn of the twentieth century woman who is struggling against the restrictions of the gender biases of her period. At this time in history women were socially insignificant. They were not allowed to have any real power but instead were relegated to the private sphere. A woman s only role in life at the time was as wife and mother. Any ambition outside of these roles was considered abnormal and a proper woman of society would never dream of trying to move beyond their assigned gender roles. This of course is not natural and Chopin writes stories where socially repressed women illustrate their true need within for independence and freedom beyond what society says is appropriate. The female character s need for independence in Kate Chopin s writing is evident in two of her published short stories, The Story of an Hour and The Storm. In The Story of an Hour a woman named Louise Mallard learns that her husband has been killed in a horrific train accident. Her loved ones are immediately concerned that this news will be too much for poor Louise to bear. Louise suffers from a heart ailment, which in the Victorian period made her only more attractive as a society wife because she was fragile and physically impaired and no woman should strive to be strong or healthy. Unexpectedly, the news of her husband s demise is not upsetting to Louise but instead she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
