Story Of An Hour Character Analysis
In the short yet complex work The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin, readers see a woman who
goes through a complete spectrum of emotions in the short span of an hour. When the main
character learns that her husband is dead, like most, she is shocked and utterly filled with grief. As
the story continues, a dramatic change takes place within the mind of the main character, Louise.
Upon the conclusion of her natural, wifely grief, she realizes that she is finally out from under the
grasp of her husband and is now a free womanin a time when men dominated life at home and the
goings on of society. Through his death, Louise finds the opportunity to be born again. Many of the
emotions that the main character goes through are depicted through the imagery of her constantly
changing environment, and the author specifically uses the architecture of her home as a main
tool. In the story, the use of visual imagery projects the rise and fall of the main character as her
life transitions quickly back and forth. Through an analysis of her characterization, these changes
ultimately prove too much for her to handle. In Chopin s The Story of an Hour, a character analysis
can be performed based on the changes in her environment compared to the changes in her life
situation. The layout of the world around Louise is used to show her initial grief, sudden
realization of freedom, and her gateway to a new life free from oppression of men. A wife who
receives the unexpected news that her

Milos Forman s Amadeus
Mohammed alqarni Milos Forman s Amadeus is one of the most hazardous bets a producer has
taken in quite a while a rich film about Mozart that challenges to be anarchic and saucy, yet still
gains the significance of disaster. This motion picture is in no way like the bleak instructive
representations we re accustomed to seeing about the Great Composers, who appear to be
cobwebbed profundities overloaded with the weight of virtuoso. This is Mozart as an eighteenth
century Bruce Springsteen, but (here is the virtuoso of the motion picture) there is nothing shoddy
or unworthy about the approach. Amadeus is not just about as much fun as you re probably going
to have with a motion picture, it additionally is exasperatingly valid. Reality enters

Book Classification Final Exam
713 Final Exam
Part 1
Question 1. c
Question 2. d
Question 3. d
Part 2
The book, Ceremonial songs of the Creek and Yuchi Indians is unique because it fits comfortably
under classifications of history as well as music. For example, the provided Library of Congress
Classification number shows it categorized with folk music from the American Indians and the
Dewey Decimal Classification makes no reference to the musical aspect instead emphasizing the
ties to the Creek Indians. This is problematic because if someone is not aware of the full topic or
title and is seeking the book, they may disregard the music and be unable to locate the book in
their search. Retrieval requires solid metadata, especially in these instances where one subject or
classification is not enough to adequately describe the aboutness of the work. This is one
argument in favor of increasing the reach of the semantic web and Linked Data to alleviate some
of these problems. As seen in Part 1, achieving coextensivity is not easy when there can only be
one DDC or LCC call number, but multiple LCSH headings assigned.
Part 3 The assignments for this course were certainly eye opening for someone who intends to do
cataloging and classifying work in the future. I naively assumed going in that there would be some
ultimate form of classifying, but it seems the true winning combo is a combination of multiple,
whether that be LCC, LCSH, DCC, folksonomy, or other ontologies. This work is integral to

Why Is Criticism Wrong
Remember when last time you have pointed out someone s mistake or critisezed, what was the
reaction? I am pretty sure that the other person gave you tons of reasons why he is right,
Just take an example of smoker, if you just tell him that smoking is bad and it will lead to a very
bad consiquences, what will be the reaction, although that you are right, but the person will give
you hundreds if not thousands of reasons why he is not wrong,
I will tell you more than that, ninety nine times out of a hundred, people don t criticize
themselves for anything, no matter how wrong it may be. You can go to a drug deal or thiefs and
tell them that what they are doing is wrong and turst me, they will give tons of reasons why they
are rgitht (that s of if they talk to you, and not kill you)
Because Criticism is futile, it puts a person on the defensive and usually makes him strive to justify
himself.

Role Of Core Technologies On An Effective It System Essay
Roles of Core Technologies in an Effective IT System
The world of technology cores has a different function in today s era. The core roles of these
technologies play an important part to keep this world as we know it to operating on a day to day
basis. The basis of the technology that makes IT System useful is Computer Networks, Information
Assurance, Wed Technologies, Database, Computer Programs and Programming.
In order for IT System to become active first Computer Programs and Programming must be put in
place. Computer Programs and Programming are simple terms an executable set of commands for
the computer to perform. A process is an actively running program which may or may not is
running in the background. A program running in the background is one that the computer user
may not be aware of, but it may be providing useful services such as an ability to connect to other
computers. It reads and executes program instructions, performs calculations, and makes decisions

Second, Database is needed to take the collection of all sorts of sensitive data to organize, analyze,
and extract data. It is the heart of many functions in today s world. For example, when a password
or user in a program it is checking the information type in against the information it stored in order
to open the software. Databases solve most of the data management problems that are encountered.
The database does three essential things provides a framework in which strict procedures and

Undertaking A Personal Action Plan

Summary Of People Make Choices

People make Choices Introduction:
From 1941 to 1945, The Holocaust took place in many countries, and millions of people died.
Adolf Hitler came to power in 1933 in Germany, and had an Aryan Race which was the Nazi s
idea of a master race. They thought that people with blonde hair and blue eyes were perfect. Adolf
Hitler developed a plan called the Final Solution, which was to kill mostly Jewish people, but also
anyone who did not fit his standards. Hitler rounded up all of the people he disliked, and he placed
them in concentration camps and death camps. In these awful places, these prisoners got tortured
not only physically, but also mentally. In France, many Jews were being deported to Germany,
however; there was so many, that they had to stay in concentration camps in France. The survival
rate in France was higher than any country in Europe during the Holocaust. Two very similar people
who made very different choices were in France during the Holocaust. A priest named Andre
Trocme made a good choice to save many Jews, and a SS officer named Klaus Barbie made a bad
choice to kill thousands of Jews ( The Holocaust ).
1st body paragraph: Andre Trocme was born on April 7, 1901 in northern France. When he was a
child, he spoke his mind, and did whatever he felt like he needed to do, which led him to be an
objector during World War 1. He attended seminary school in Paris as he was growing up, and then

Gladiator Movie. vs History
During the Roman Empire many emperors ruled in their own ways. Some were considered to be
one of the Five Good Emperors, and the others didn t last because they were assassinated. They
either just cared about themselves or actually cared about the citizens of Rome. The movie
Gladiator portrays Roman life and the gladiatorial games. Really though, how does the movie
compare to the history of the Roman Empire? I am really interested in the actual history of the
gladiators and the movie is one of my favorites. That s why I chose to do my review on it and I
came to find out that the movie didn t give me the information on the real life and times of the
gladiators. In the movie, after the death of the emperor, Maximus becomes one of the... Show more

They had to inspect the men just by looking at their bodies and making sure they were strong
and healthy enough to purchase. I did not pay good money for you, for your company. I paid it
so I could profit from your death, he said. These quotes show that no one cared about the
gladiators because they were slaves. All they cared about was that they put on a good show.
Gladiator didn t show much of the training that the men received. Most of it was them in battle,
but not what went on behind the scenes and all the vigorous training they had to go through.
Watching the behind the scenes was interesting because throughout the whole thing I thought to
myself, wow this is crazy how much work it took for all these men to become gladiators for the
film. No wonder they were all buff, because they did hours and hours of training everyday. In
Roman times, gladiators had to endure lengthy and demanding training so that they could be
prepared for what lay before them. In the movie, Maximus was Rome s greatest general so they
just assumed he was the best around and didn t need any training. One thing I noticed that wasn t
historically accurate was the chants of the spectators at the arena. When a gladiator was wounded
the audience was able to whether or not they want him to be killed or spared. The way the
audience would decide would be either to wave their thumbs around, if they want him to be spared,
or they would press their thumb against their opposite hand,

Harley Davidson Financial Ratios
Harley Davidson Inc. is an American motorcycle manufacturer. Founded in Milwaukee, WI,
USA, during the first decade of the 20th century, It has become one of the most formidable
players in the US motorcycle industry. Harley Davidson holds 50.2% of the motorcycle market
share in the US. Demand for motorcycle is elastic hence Harley Davidson cannot price fix. This
memo will analyze profitability, liquidity, leverage, cash flow and investment valuation of
Harley Davidson through various financial ratios and give a recommendation. Profitability was
analyzed through profit margin analysis, ROE and ROA based on financial statements of the
fiscal year of 2013. Gross profit margin and operating profit margin were 44.1% and 21%,
respectively and also the net profit margin was at 13.6%. From the numbers stated above we can
infer that in every sales dollar for Harley Davidson in 2013, there are roughly 0.44, 0.21 and 0.14
cents of gross, operating and net profit, respectively. ROE and ROA were 26.4% and 8.4% for the
end of 2013 Q4, respectively.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The current ratio for the fiscal year of 2013 was 1.59 and quick ratio was at 1.42. From these two

assets to pay of short term debts, even without selling off inventory. Harley s liquidity ratios have
remained above 1 for the last 6 years in spite of recent economic downturns, which is impressive
and encouraging. Debt to equity ratio for the fiscal year of 2013 was 2.0, which indicates Harley
Davidson leverage is average at best. There is precarious amount of leverage, but this might have
happened because of the undertaking of new investments like expanding the business
internationally and expanding product line. It is possible that Harley Davidson is borrowing money
to finance these investments hence making the company less

Discuss How Shakespeare Uses Language and Dramatic...
Discuss how Shakespeare uses language and dramatic techniques for character development in
Act 2 Scene 2 of Measure for Measure. Shakespeare uses a variety of linguistic devices and
dramatic techniques for character development from Act 2 Scene 2 to Scene 4. We see Angelo s
precise, business like persona transform to temptation, and final cruelty whilst we see the true,
confident side of Isabella as as she attempts to convince Angelo to reverse his judgement, but
eventually loses her ignorant hope on the realisation of his true purpose . In Act 2 Scene 2
Shakespeare portrays Angelo as precise, intelligently dealing with the pleas of Isabella to save the
life of her brother by reversing the death sentence that has been handed down to him.... Show more

Comparing the characters of Angelo and Isabella, one could argue that Isabella is the symbol of
goodness and mercy set against a background of moral decay . Alternatively, one could see her
character as self righteous and hypocritical, as we later discover when she values her chastity
higher than her brother s life. Isabella continues arguing with Angelo until he finally relents and
tells her to come back the next day to hear his judgement. Everyone leaves, and Angelo speaks a
rather striking soliloquy, apparently talking to himself ...what art thou Angelo? Dost thou desire
her foully for those things that make her good? . Thus, through Shakespeare s staging, we learn
that Angelo admits to himself that he is in love with Isabella because of her virtue and purity.
Often characters in Shakespeare s plays have soliloquies but they do not often refer to
themselves in third person and when they do, it is often a sign of madness. Perhaps Shakespeare
is suggesting this as a sign for Angelo. What is certain is that he is struggling with an inward
battle between what he knows he should do and what he desires to do, as his develops and starts
questioning the morality of his own character. It is with great irony that Isabella s call to Angelo to
mark the weaknesses in his own heart is answered by Angelo s acknowledgement that he is tempted
by Isabella. It is this temptation that brings from Angelo his first

Critical Discourse Analysis For An International Crisis...
Methodology
Critical discourse analysis
For an international crisis happening thousands miles away, it is not sufficient to be understood
without acknowledging itself as a mediated complex. From critical linguistics perspective,
Fowler (1991/2013) believes news is socially constructed. What events are reported is not a
reflection of intrinsic importance of those events, but reveals the operation of a complex and
artificial set of criteria for selection (p. 2). The news media select events for reporting according to
a complex set of criteria of newsworthiness; so news is not simply that which happens, but that
which can be regarded and presented as newsworthy (p.13).
Filtered by the latent criteria, the final representation of Hong Kong protests in Canadian press is
the outcome of social inclusion and exclusion. In Fowler s sense, representation is a constructive
practice. Hong Kong protests are not communicated neutrally in natural structure per se. Instead,
they were transmitted through the Canadian press with its own structural features permeated by
Canadian social values. The discourse of Hong Kong protests reflects the social actions
accomplished by language users when they communicate in social situations and within society and
culture at large (van Dijk, 1997, pp. 13 14).
So to speak, studying how the protests were represented requires not only analyzing texts or
processes of production and interpretation, but also analyzing the relationship between texts,

The Bluest Eye Literary Devices
Through the prologue there is symbolism, distortion and imagery that shows what is to come in
the Bluest Eyes. Mother, Father, Dick and Jane appear to represent the perfect family. They also
appear to be white although not directly stated. The Bluest Eyes is a story of racism and how
mean people can be. It is also a story of people wanting to be something they can never be. This
showing how other people s thoughts can hold so much value whether they are positive or
negative. There is also no such thing as perfect family which the prologue alludes to no matter
what background you are. In the start, it says Who will play with Jane? No one ends up playing
with Jane as to show how she gets ignored. The theme in this story is so much of these kids
wanting to be white because they believe that to be perfect. Pecola goes through this story
constantly getting ignored by everyone. Claudia even becomes jealous of a girl who is light
skinned and falls into the belief that she wishes she was white. The reference of the mother just
laughing and the father being strong relates to the characters in the story as well. Cholly is not
strong in this story as he has had a tough life.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The distortion of the same sentences she uses creates this imbalance that we know is coming. It
shows that although this family seems to be perfect there is this underlying problem of no one
wanting to play with Jane. This also suggests the fake or fantasy everyone lives in because it
says the mother and father are smiling yet no one pays attention to Jane. The cat and dogs don t
even pay attention and we see how Pecola is tricked into killing a dog later in the story. This
perhaps alluding to this moment in the book. The distortion is words also makes the reader after
you read the story aware of how confused all these characters are. They don t need to be wishing
they were another color when the beauty in them already

Coming off or going on certain medication to reduce or eliminate bruxism is not an immediate
decision to be made in regard to tooth grinding. Few studies have been conducted therefore there is
not enough evidence to suggest medication is the cause of bruxism. Taking medications to treat
certain conditions far outweighs the need to go off these medications to reduce bruxism when other

Not Judge A Book By Its Cover
Never Judge a Book By its Cover
It is often said to never judge a book by its cover, yet in today s society judging is a major asset
that the citizens of the United States tend to do. In the school house, on the roads, in restaurants,
grocery stores, job interviews, and even in the churches are very familiar places where judging
has become vital. People are starting to discriminate, stereotype, and evaluate others as a lifestyle
rather than a duty. Today, many people are experiencing discrimination and stereotyping within
finding jobs. In today s society, when managers review an application the first aspect they view is
the age. When a manager sees that the applicant is under the age of eighteen years, he or she tends
to think that the applicant has no experience or maturity. Furthermore, when a person scans over a
job objective or description, the person tends to see sexist jobs. For instance, a firefighter is
typically a dominant male position. When an applicant reads the objectives, it states a gender
within the use of pronouns such as he or him. Also, males typically do not apply for dominant
female position. For example, males do not apply for secretary, nurse, or even school teacher
positions, whereas many males have a tendency to apply for masculine jobs such as police officers,
administrators, or security. Many employers do not notice this, but this is categorized as
discrimination. Additionally, teenage students are encountering more and more discrimination

Gentrification In Global Cities Essay
Each of the three characteristic contribute to economic growth that subsequently affects social and
spatial relationships within global cities. Sassen states that, Research covering the last two and
even three decades shows sharp increases in socioeconomic and spatial inequalities within major
cities of the developed world and now increasingly also in cities of the global South (Sassen, 241).
With the rise of global cities and an increase in socioeconomic inequalities comes gentrification.
Gentrification changes the market for everyone, as property values go up, people become
displaced and homelessness becomes a bigger problem. Gentrification in a global cityis the desire

Since the mid 1970 s there has been economic and social transformation in the economy in terms
of specific form of urban labor (Sassen, 246). A key shift is the change in occupational and
industrial employment which has also seen a shift in balance. Sassen states that, Such shifts
directly affect the mix of job characteristics, including earnings levels and employment stability,
and the types of careers available to local workers (Sassen , 246). The new type of flexibility
leads to an increase in flexible employment and precarious work. This means that there is an
increase in part time jobs that include no regular scheduling, no set hours and can be highly
unstable for the employee. With this also comes the rise of jobs paying under the poverty level.
This affects different cities because workers under the poverty level can not maintain a middle
class level of living, thus shaping the decline of the middle. Instead of having more areas of
middle class structure there is an increase in the separation between high and low. An example of
this can be seen throughout cities with the decrease in middle retail, which means that there is
large separation between the retail to high end and low end, but not much in the middle. Aside
from retail, labor markets in cities are also structures around sets of jobs that are very particular

When you think of the word bear what comes to mind? Some people may possible think of Yogi
the bear or Smoky the bear. However, society sets up a positive connotation for bears though in
reality they are quite aggressive animals. Since this is a reality, New Jersey along with others states
set up huntingseasons. The New Jerseybearhunt is in two different segments, A and B. Segment A
is held within October fifth to the tenth and segment B is December fifth to the tenth. In 2015
there were 472 bears killed within segment A while, 38 were killed in segment B. The bear hunt in
New Jersey is largely located in the northern counties. Bear hunting is a necessity in order to
prevent the overpopulation of the species.
Bear hunting is an extremely dangerous activity for one to partake in. There are many
precautions one must take in order to successfully kill a bear. Although bears are typically calm
creatures they can become extremely aggressive and dangerous if threatened. Therefore, one
must be aware of their surroundings at all times and ready for any encounter. Normally bears are
baited using some kind of container cut open with fruit and other strong smelling foods to draw
the bears in. Though dangerous bear hunting does also provide a considerable amount of food for
a family. Those you hunt typically do so in order to obtain the meat from the animal. A typical
black bear weighs about 240 pounds on average. Though not all of that weight is eatable much of it

How To Visit To Fayetteville
Fayetteville, West Virginia
Reflection Essay

The town of Fayetteville, West Virginia is very important and is fun to visit. Fayetteville is the
county seat of Fayette County and the town was established in 1837. I am constantly going to
Fayetteville for various reasons, including going to see the historic sites and to do business at the

The Fight to Help the Snow Leopard Essay
An endangered species is any species... that is at risk of extinction because of the sudden rapid
decrease in its population or loss of its habitat (Dublin, par. 1). An animal that falls under this
category is the Panthera Uncia (Dublin, par. 1) more commonly known as the snow leopard. This
animal is seen as a threat to many people in Central Asia the natural habitat of the leopard.
However, the conclusion is inaccurate. The snow leopardis a rare creature that is hardly seen by
humans. This animal is insulated by thick fur and has tremendous paws that act like snowshoes.

4). People are building more houses and farms that go beyond the snow leopards habitat. This
problem is causing the snow leopards to have less room to live freely.
Another reason for the decrease in the leopards natural habitat is global warming. The earth is
warming and causing the snow something the snow leopard depends on to melt. Since the snow is
melting, the snow leopards prey is moving to different areas; for example, the blue sheep, Asiatic
ibex, marmots and small rodents.
These animals are being relocated to different locations because they cannot stand this change in
the weather. Unfortunately this is a problem for the snow leopard because these animals are its
natural prey. It is said that as snow leopards get to higher elevations, the vegetation becomes
more scarce, which means that the herbivores that they prey on are in limited supply as well, and
the [snow] leopards are having trouble finding enough food (Defenders of Wildlife, par. 7). This
is a key problem because the snow leopard needs food to survive and it is resulting in more snow
leopards starving to death.
The snow leopards coat and body parts are in high demand. They are being illegally hunted and
poached to be sold on the black market. The bones and organs of the snow leopard are being used
for traditional Chinese and Asian medicine. The coat of a snow leopard is extremely valuable
because it is thick and has a very unique pattern. People sell the fur

The Techniques of Advertising Essay
The Techniques of Advertising
Advertisings are created to make us buy things. All the companies want to sell their products,
because they want to make profit. When a company knows that a product that it manufactures is
not very good they do not share that with their customers. On the contrary, they make a very
impressive advertising for the product, because all they want is to sell it. Everyone knows that
advertising a product is not really done because the product is just wonderful and everyone should

They say: better ingredients, better pizza, papa John s. First of all I don t understand what they
meant by saying better . Better than what? I assume that it is better than the pizza that I eat now.
How do they know it is better? Different people like different types of pizza; some people even
like it when it is homemade. I love the pizza that my grandmother prepares more than any other
type of pizza I have ever tasted. She has a little garden outside her house and she plants peppers
and some tomatoes there. No one can ever convince me that they have better ingredients and
better pizza than my grandmother s. In this case again if we do not pay attention to all these facts
and one day we feel the most severe hunger, the line pops up in our head Better ingredients, better

company s advertisers have made us believe that they sell the best pizza.
Another technique that advertisers use is the presence of role models. You see a person like Lebron
James advertising the soft drink Sprite. You may start thinking that since he is such a good
basketball player and he drinks Sprite then if you start drinking it may be you will look like him
at least a little. You look at Halle Berry advertising Revlon make up. She says to you: Only Revlon

Since the beginning, speeches have been remembered because of how they connected with their

rhetorical manner through which it connected with the people forever.
Stay hungry, stay foolish. In many arguments today, facts are given to help claims; be that as it

stories, he makes a persona for himself. He is a man who has faced many hardships but has still

that failure can sometimes be great, these are imperative bits of his persona. He was known as a
prosperous man and someone who everyone looked up to. Building up this persona lets him
connect with his audience significantly better.
Jobs opens with a compliment for the gathering of people: I am honored to be with you today for

Dicken s Hard Times
Dickens Hard Times
Now, what I want is, Facts. Teach these boys and girls nothing but Facts. Facts alone are wanted in
life. (Dickens, 1854, p.1)
With these beginning sentences of the novel Hard Times , Charles Dickens has made readers doubt
whether it is true that facts alone are wanted in life. This question leads to the main theme of the
story, fact against fancy, that author has never been written this kind of plot in his other stories
before. In fact, Hard Times is considered as the unlike the rest of Dickens works (Collins, 1992,
p.xi) because the plot is not involved the social problems in Victorian Age such as poverty or child
labor, but it is an abstract that exalts instinct above reason. (Collins, 1992, p.xiii) ... Show more

In order to help his son, Mr. Gradgrind eventually has to ask Sleary s circus, who he never favour

many subplot stories such as an impossible love between Louisa and Mr. Harthouse, a secret life
of Mr. Bounderby and a social class love. With his sharp and sarcastic writing skill, Hard Times
receives impressive critiques from many admirers. The outstanding critique is one from Dr F.
R. Leavis in 1948 that says ... of all Dickens works the one that has all the strength of his genius,
together with a strength no other of them can show that of a completely serious work of art...
(Collin, 1992, p.xii). These three facts of this novel even make it more astonishing. A good
novel not only gives reader an appreciation but also provides some points that need to be
analyzed through critical thinking process. So does the Hard Times, it is a valuable novel that I
favor and have critical reflections on the Dickens satire, the well rounded characters and the
comparison on the different abstract ideas. I was hooked by this novel right from the first three
sentences, claimed at the beginning of the essay, because it provokes readers brain to think until
we find the answer that it is wrong to lean on facts alone in life and that is the first satire in a story.

Money Can Buy Happiness
Can money buy you happiness? It is a classical debate, sparked by the left wing communists and
religious leaders who suggest that a person can live a full life without the pursuit of money, and
instead one must look to a more spiritual existence above the material desires. It is perhaps
conceivable in a century gone by where people grew all their food and believed in witches, that a
human could forge a fulfilling existence without the needof money to satisfy our desires. However
in today s society money can not only buy happiness, but is a major factor for happiness. Findings

The Lewis And Clark Trail

Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to explore the American Northwest. Together, they led the

Writer s Block A Creative Block
Writer s block is a term to describe a creative block when people are unsure and lost on how to go
about with their writing. It is not as simple as the inability to continue writing a story or a
painting, but it is about being unable to produce something, whether it be creative or not. This
term is not isolated to writers specifically, this creative block applies to all those who practice the
art artists, composers, poet, choreographers. In this essay, I shall explain a few relatively
common causes of writer s block and give some advice on the techniques to overcome this
obstacle. Moreover, I will be referring to several sources, my own experiences to the techniques I

Writing fan fictions is another path writers may take if writers are unable to come up anything,
using the existing characters as training wheels . Playing around with the plot of the story, changing
(in)significant little details, inserting their own character into the story, which could in doubt either
allow the story to follow the canon or take them down an alternative path. It is a lot easier to come

it should have happened differently to the original. Especially when it comes to the death of a
favorite character or the disagreement of character pairing their relationships and love life. It s
giving them a chance to practice before they decide to venture off and write their own story.

The relevant outgrowth of American realism, another relatable writing tendency derived in 1880s.
Similar as the purport of realism, Naturalism detailed theto suggest that social heredity and the

By utilizing a version of the scientific method to illustrate the surrounding, naturalism writers

Sethe, Paul D., and Denver, are all in some state of conflict in the current circumstances of their

to the lives, it eventually leads to resolution for the family. Beloved embodies many of the

M. C. Escher Research Paper
A tessellation is when a shape is repeated over and over again, using transformations such as
translations, reflections, rotations, and dilations. M. C. Escher was an artist and mathematician
who made many types of art, but is most known for his tessellations. He was born in 1898 in the
Netherlands, and died at age 73 in 1972. His full name is Marutis Cornelis Escher. As a kid, he
got bad grades, but he was very creative and great at drawing. He went to college to study
architecture, but didn t do very well so he switched to decorative arts. When Escher went on a
trip to Italy and Spain, he met Jetta Umiker, whom he ended up marrying. He then had 3 sons
named Giorgio, Arthur and Jan and lived in Italy. 11 years later, he decided to leave Italy and
move to Switzerland, because he wasn t interested in Italian politics, and he didn t like that his
son was forced to wear a Ballila uniform (an Italian fascist group). He didn t like the landscape of
Switzerland, so 2 years later him and his family moved to Belgium. 4 years later, they moved to

they are drawing each other, and Relativity , where there is a building with many different
staircases which confuses your brain because you don t know which way is up or

lifts: they may also offer you real mental health benefits. And their future looks even brighter!
Henry the VIII Rocked the First Stair Lift Don t let the concept of a stair lift make you feel weak
or powerless: one of the most powerful men who ever lived, Henry the VIII, actually invented one

Investing in a stair lift just might be what you need to beat your depression symptoms. Stair
Lifts Could Be Replaced By Apartment Elevators If you re concerned about the extra room a
stair lift will take up in your room, never fear: the future of stair lift technology may change all
of that. An English company is currently hoping that it s new apartment elevator will help
increase mobility for people all around the world. The concept is simple: a small vertical lift is
installed in one corner of your home, with a protective glass shell keeping you from falling
inside on accident. The lift will move you up and down the floors of your home, without the
need for a sprawling stair lift system or expensive elevator shaft installation. The success of
these new elevators could help people who would normally have said no to a stair lift invest in
increased mobility. Of course, the widespread use of these apartment elevators may be far off in
the distance. If you re suffering from decreased mobility, please don t ignore the possibilities of a
stair lift. They can help you regain full access to a home where you ve spent your entire

products are in important in the average day to day life. Possible substitutes that continuously put

  • 2. Story Of An Hour Character Analysis In the short yet complex work The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin, readers see a woman who goes through a complete spectrum of emotions in the short span of an hour. When the main character learns that her husband is dead, like most, she is shocked and utterly filled with grief. As the story continues, a dramatic change takes place within the mind of the main character, Louise. Upon the conclusion of her natural, wifely grief, she realizes that she is finally out from under the grasp of her husband and is now a free womanin a time when men dominated life at home and the goings on of society. Through his death, Louise finds the opportunity to be born again. Many of the emotions that the main character goes through are depicted through the imagery of her constantly changing environment, and the author specifically uses the architecture of her home as a main tool. In the story, the use of visual imagery projects the rise and fall of the main character as her life transitions quickly back and forth. Through an analysis of her characterization, these changes ultimately prove too much for her to handle. In Chopin s The Story of an Hour, a character analysis can be performed based on the changes in her environment compared to the changes in her life situation. The layout of the world around Louise is used to show her initial grief, sudden realization of freedom, and her gateway to a new life free from oppression of men. A wife who receives the unexpected news that her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is Mozart as an eighteenth century Bruce Springsteen, but (here is the virtuoso of the motion picture) there is nothing shoddy or unworthy about the approach. • 4. Book Classification Final Exam 713 Final Exam Part 1 Question 1. c Question 2. d Question 3. d Part 2 The book, Ceremonial songs of the Creek and Yuchi Indians is unique because it fits comfortably under classifications of history as well as music. For example, the provided Library of Congress Classification number shows it categorized with folk music from the American Indians and the Dewey Decimal Classification makes no reference to the musical aspect instead emphasizing the ties to the Creek Indians. This is problematic because if someone is not aware of the full topic or title and is seeking the book, they may disregard the music and be unable to locate the book in their search. Retrieval requires solid metadata, especially in these instances where one subject or classification is not enough to adequately describe the aboutness of the work. This is one argument in favor of increasing the reach of the semantic web and Linked Data to alleviate some of these problems. As seen in Part 1, achieving coextensivity is not easy when there can only be one DDC or LCC call number, but multiple LCSH headings assigned. Part 3 The assignments for this course were certainly eye opening for someone who intends to do cataloging and classifying work in the future. I naively assumed going in that there would be some ultimate form of classifying, but it seems the true winning combo is a combination of multiple, whether that be LCC, LCSH, DCC, folksonomy, or other ontologies. The core roles of these technologies play an important part to keep this world as we know it to operating on a day to day basis. The basis of the technology that makes IT System useful is Computer Networks, Information Assurance, Wed Technologies, Database, Computer Programs and Programming. In order for IT System to become active first Computer Programs and Programming must be put in place. Computer Programs and Programming are simple terms an executable set of commands for the computer to perform. A process is an actively running program which may or may not is running in the background. A program running in the background is one that the computer user may not be aware of, but it may be providing useful services such as an ability to connect to other computers. It reads and executes program instructions, performs calculations, and makes decisions (slideshare.net). Summary Of People Make Choices Kameron Jarvis Mrs. Bowden English Two Honors 17 March 2016 People make Choices Introduction: From 1941 to 1945, The Holocaust took place in many countries, and millions of people died. Adolf Hitler came to power in 1933 in Germany, and had an Aryan Race which was the Nazi s idea of a master race. They thought that people with blonde hair and blue eyes were perfect. Adolf Hitler developed a plan called the Final Solution, which was to kill mostly Jewish people, but also anyone who did not fit his standards. Hitler rounded up all of the people he disliked, and he placed them in concentration camps and death camps. In these awful places, these prisoners got tortured not only physically, but also mentally. In France, many Jews were being deported to Germany, however; there was so many, that they had to stay in concentration camps in France. The survival rate in France was higher than any country in Europe during the Holocaust. Two very similar people who made very different choices were in France during the Holocaust. A priest named Andre Trocme made a good choice to save many Jews, and a SS officer named Klaus Barbie made a bad choice to kill thousands of Jews ( The Holocaust ). 1st body paragraph: Andre Trocme was born on April 7, 1901 in northern France. Some were considered to be one of the Five Good Emperors, and the others didn t last because they were assassinated. They either just cared about themselves or actually cared about the citizens of Rome. The movie Gladiator portrays Roman life and the gladiatorial games. Really though, how does the movie compare to the history of the Roman Empire? I am really interested in the actual history of the gladiators and the movie is one of my favorites. They had to inspect the men just by looking at their bodies and making sure they were strong and healthy enough to purchase. I did not pay good money for you, for your company. I paid it so I could profit from your death, he said. These quotes show that no one cared about the gladiators because they were slaves. All they cared about was that they put on a good show. Gladiator didn t show much of the training that the men received. Most of it was them in battle, but not what went on behind the scenes and all the vigorous training they had to go through. Watching the behind the scenes was interesting because throughout the whole thing I thought to myself, wow this is crazy how much work it took for all these men to become gladiators for the film. No wonder they were all buff, because they did hours and hours of training everyday. In Roman times, gladiators had to endure lengthy and demanding training so that they could be prepared for what lay before them. In the movie, Maximus was Rome s greatest general so they just assumed he was the best around and didn t need any training. One thing I noticed that wasn t historically accurate was the chants of the spectators at the arena. When a gladiator was wounded the audience was able to whether or not they want him to be killed or spared. The way the audience would decide would be either to wave their thumbs around, if they want him to be spared, or they would press their thumb against their opposite hand, ... • 11. Discuss How Shakespeare Uses Language and Dramatic... Discuss how Shakespeare uses language and dramatic techniques for character development in Act 2 Scene 2 of Measure for Measure. Shakespeare uses a variety of linguistic devices and dramatic techniques for character development from Act 2 Scene 2 to Scene 4. We see Angelo s precise, business like persona transform to temptation, and final cruelty whilst we see the true, confident side of Isabella as as she attempts to convince Angelo to reverse his judgement, but eventually loses her ignorant hope on the realisation of his true purpose . In Act 2 Scene 2 Shakespeare portrays Angelo as precise, intelligently dealing with the pleas of Isabella to save the life of her brother by reversing the death sentence that has been handed down to him.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Comparing the characters of Angelo and Isabella, one could argue that Isabella is the symbol of goodness and mercy set against a background of moral decay . Alternatively, one could see her character as self righteous and hypocritical, as we later discover when she values her chastity higher than her brother s life. Isabella continues arguing with Angelo until he finally relents and tells her to come back the next day to hear his judgement. Everyone leaves, and Angelo speaks a rather striking soliloquy, apparently talking to himself ...what art thou Angelo? Dost thou desire her foully for those things that make her good? . Thus, through Shakespeare s staging, we learn that Angelo admits to himself that he is in love with Isabella because of her virtue and purity. Often characters in Shakespeare s plays have soliloquies but they do not often refer to themselves in third person and when they do, it is often a sign of madness. Perhaps Shakespeare is suggesting this as a sign for Angelo. What is certain is that he is struggling with an inward battle between what he knows he should do and what he desires to do, as his develops and starts questioning the morality of his own character. It is with great irony that Isabella s call to Angelo to mark the weaknesses in his own heart is answered by Angelo s acknowledgement that he is tempted by Isabella. It is this temptation that brings from Angelo his first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Critical Discourse Analysis For An International Crisis... Methodology Critical discourse analysis For an international crisis happening thousands miles away, it is not sufficient to be understood without acknowledging itself as a mediated complex. From critical linguistics perspective, Fowler (1991/2013) believes news is socially constructed. What events are reported is not a reflection of intrinsic importance of those events, but reveals the operation of a complex and artificial set of criteria for selection (p. 2). The news media select events for reporting according to a complex set of criteria of newsworthiness; so news is not simply that which happens, but that which can be regarded and presented as newsworthy (p.13). Filtered by the latent criteria, the final representation of Hong Kong protests in Canadian press is the outcome of social inclusion and exclusion. In Fowler s sense, representation is a constructive practice. Hong Kong protests are not communicated neutrally in natural structure per se. Instead, they were transmitted through the Canadian press with its own structural features permeated by Canadian social values. The discourse of Hong Kong protests reflects the social actions accomplished by language users when they communicate in social situations and within society and culture at large (van Dijk, 1997, pp. 13 14). So to speak, studying how the protests were represented requires not only analyzing texts or processes of production and interpretation, but also analyzing the relationship between texts, ... • 13. The Bluest Eye Literary Devices Through the prologue there is symbolism, distortion and imagery that shows what is to come in the Bluest Eyes. Mother, Father, Dick and Jane appear to represent the perfect family. They also appear to be white although not directly stated. The Bluest Eyes is a story of racism and how mean people can be. It is also a story of people wanting to be something they can never be. This showing how other people s thoughts can hold so much value whether they are positive or negative. There is also no such thing as perfect family which the prologue alludes to no matter what background you are. In the start, it says Who will play with Jane? No one ends up playing with Jane as to show how she gets ignored. The theme in this story is so much of these kids wanting to be white because they believe that to be perfect. Pecola goes through this story constantly getting ignored by everyone. Claudia even becomes jealous of a girl who is light skinned and falls into the belief that she wishes she was white. The reference of the mother just laughing and the father being strong relates to the characters in the story as well. Cholly is not strong in this story as he has had a tough life.... The cat and dogs don t even pay attention and we see how Pecola is tricked into killing a dog later in the story. This perhaps alluding to this moment in the book. Not Judge A Book By Its Cover Never Judge a Book By its Cover It is often said to never judge a book by its cover, yet in today s society judging is a major asset that the citizens of the United States tend to do. In the school house, on the roads, in restaurants, grocery stores, job interviews, and even in the churches are very familiar places where judging has become vital. People are starting to discriminate, stereotype, and evaluate others as a lifestyle rather than a duty. Today, many people are experiencing discrimination and stereotyping within finding jobs. In today s society, when managers review an application the first aspect they view is the age. When a manager sees that the applicant is under the age of eighteen years, he or she tends to think that the applicant has no experience or maturity. Furthermore, when a person scans over a job objective or description, the person tends to see sexist jobs. For instance, a firefighter is typically a dominant male position. When an applicant reads the objectives, it states a gender within the use of pronouns such as he or him. Also, males typically do not apply for dominant female position. For example, males do not apply for secretary, nurse, or even school teacher positions, whereas many males have a tendency to apply for masculine jobs such as police officers, administrators, or security. Many employers do not notice this, but this is categorized as discrimination. Additionally, teenage students are encountering more and more discrimination ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since the mid 1970 s there has been economic and social transformation in the economy in terms of specific form of urban labor (Sassen, 246). A key shift is the change in occupational and industrial employment which has also seen a shift in balance. Sassen states that, Such shifts directly affect the mix of job characteristics, including earnings levels and employment stability, and the types of careers available to local workers (Sassen , 246). The new type of flexibility leads to an increase in flexible employment and precarious work. This means that there is an increase in part time jobs that include no regular scheduling, no set hours and can be highly unstable for the employee. With this also comes the rise of jobs paying under the poverty level. This affects different cities because workers under the poverty level can not maintain a middle class level of living, thus shaping the decline of the middle. Instead of having more areas of middle class structure there is an increase in the separation between high and low. An example of this can be seen throughout cities with the decrease in middle retail, which means that there is large separation between the retail to high end and low end, but not much in the middle. Aside from retail, labor markets in cities are also structures around sets of jobs that are very particular (Sassen, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
