Comparing James Lapine s Into The Woods And Stephen Sondheim
We watched Into the Woods by James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim. Honestly, when you said we
were going to watch a musical I thought, oh cool it s going to be like Phantom of the Opera , or High
School Musical , but it wasn t like that at all. The costumes were pretty cool and the special effects
were really awesome. I thought it was going to be really boring and dry, but there were some funny
parts. I love the way Sondheim tied the sarcasm in with the release of tension and lesions.
James Lapine wrote the book for Into the Woods he is an American stage director, filmmaker,
playwright, screenwriter, and librettist. He graduated from Franklin and Marshal College and did a
graduate study at the California Institute of the Arts. He has won many Tony Awards, and Drama Desk
Awards; he also won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and the Peabody Award. In 2010 he was inducted
into the American Theater Hall of Fame. Besides collaborating with Sondheim he also collaborated
with William Finn. Stephen Sondheim was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jack shows growth in realizing two wrongs don t make a right, stealing is wrong, and that you re never
alone. The Baker realized he should have appreciated his wife more and done more to help her with
the baby. Cinderella realized that looks can be deceiving, and that it may not be better on the other
side. They all learned to be careful what they wished for. The show is a dark musical so it has twist
and most of the play is sung where if it s a straight play it s talking. There wouldn t have been any of
the big show stopper numbers like at the end of each scene. When the witch died was a big show
stopper, and when the backer talked to his died dad. When the baker s wife sung about her affair with
Cinderella s prince it would have been a soliloquy, as well as, the songs called agony one and agony
two where the princes sing about their love for their princesses, and wanting what they can t

Classical Conditioning And Observational Learning
Classical conditioning, operant conditioning, as well as observational learning don t only hold their
influence in the field of psychology but can also affect the experiences in one s life. These three
concepts/theories are able to leave an impact through the duration of an individual s development and
life. Classical conditioning, operant conditioning and observational learning have been able to play a
pivotal role through my initial fear then eventual confidence with public speaking.
Classical conditioning is the learning process that occurs when two stimuli are repeatedly paired . A
stimulus is what causes a reaction to be initiated. This can be applicable to many situations, an
example being in training a dog. An individual could place a bowl of food ... Show more content on

Once the food is taken away and replaced with a ringing of a bell (neutral stimulus), the dog will no
longer salivate. The neutral stimulus is a stimulus that at first doesn t produce a significant response
but will eventually become a conditioned stimulus, especially in classical conditioning. Then when the
bell rings and is presented along with a bowl of food the dog will respond by salivating. Now, the
individual will only have to ring the bell (without the bowl of food present) in order for the dog to
respond by salivating, this in turn being the conditioned response. This type of learning process was
used in similar way when I had to present in front of the class. I knew I would have to eventually
present my final project in front of my class. Knowing this caused me to be quite nervous, causing my
heart to pound and my forehead to sweat. The knowledge of having to present

Women Should Be Integrated Into Combat Positions
Women should be integrated into combat positions such as infantry, artillery, and Special Forces. If a
woman chooses this kind of challenge, then she is more than capable. Women are as tough as men.
They can do what a man can do, and if that is going into combat then yes, why not? Women can fight,
shoot, run, work hard, and win for this country like the men of this country do. Women have been in
combat for a long time, but now women are actually in combat rather than helping the men out with
injuries, being a laundresses, a cook, and a nurse. Women can go into combat, just like a man.
Women should be let onto infantry and artillery positions. Women have been involved in our nation s
military since the Revolutionary War, serving not only as nurses and cooks, but also supplying water
to thirsty soldiers on the battlefield. Throughout history, men have always fought our battles while
women stood by, but what if I told you that in some countries, women are fighting alongside men
inside combat zones? Here in the U.S., there is an immeasurable disagreement about equality in the
military. One of the supporting arguments is that several other countries outside the U.S. already have
women serving on the front lines. Countries such as Canada, New Zealand, and Australia, all have
allowed women to serve in any type combat that they qualify in and or meet requirements. While there
are several countries that don t allow women in combat, the U.S. has recently had the biggest sparring

Ancient Egypt And Greek Similarities
Ancient Egyptian and Ancient Greek civilizations both are two of the oldest studied civilizations in
our history that show up in our everyday live. The Ancient Egyptian civilization, that was centrally
located in Nile valley, is believed to have started/formed around 3150 BC and continued till the end of
the Pharaoh rule in 31 BC. The Ancient Greek civilization is thought to have started from 1100 BC till
about 146 BC. Many similarities and differences existed between these two civilizations, even though
they both were around during in the same timeframe (1150 BC to 146 BC), they were located in
different geographical areas around the world changing the development and growth involving

Ancient Egyptian politics, thought the pharaoh was the main ruler of Egypt and the lower class did not
have any say. This was mainly due to the religious differences between the two. The Ancient
Egyptians believed that the pharaoh was some sort of a god. The Ancient Greeks also had a very
complex religious system with many different gods including Zeus the king and ruler over all the
other gods.
The biggest thing that sets these two apart are the differences in their art techniques. In Ancient Egypt
painting, sculpting, crafts, and architecture were very common. The Ancient Egyptians art were
influenced by nature and animals, they used bright colors and made bold art. The ancient Egyptians
painted lots of their paintings on papyrus, a kind of paper that they made from the papyrus plant found
near their homes. Ancient Egyptians also made pottery including vases, amulets, and images of their

Method or how I observed the ecosystem was by randomly choosing 2 areas with in it and gradually
expanding my study area from 1 to 32 m², carefully watching and noting down what I observed.
I did this by starting from surface equal to 1 m² then increasing it to 2, 4, 8 and 32 m² each time
marking the boundary with a yellow fluorescent string held up by four screwdrivers that also acted as
the four corners of the current quadrat correctly marked with a measuring tape and 90° angle. Each
time I increased the surface are, I observed and noted down every different type of plant and animal
species, any present non living animal or plant materials, condition of the soil, different types of
foliage, interactions between the living non living components and interaction between living
organisms.
All the accumulated was put in to a data table, showing species richness for each quadrat and total

Effective Management Of Operations And Supply Chain
Introduction Effective management of operations and supply chain is a crucial source of competitive
advantage for any business in a rigorously competitive environment. Operations management
generally denotes the process of managing a firm s resources with the ultimate aim of delivering value
to the customer (Krajewski, Ritzman Malhotra, 2013). To stay ahead of the competition, an
organisation must constantly strive to transform its operations it must seek to eliminate inefficiencies
in the supply chain. This report compares the operations of 99p Stores and Sainsbury s fulfilment
process. Sainsbury, which was founded more than one and a half centuries ago, is one of the most
popular retailers in the UK, commanding the third largest market share after Tesco and Asda (Christie,
2013). 99p Stores is also a retailer that operates in the UK, though it is quite smaller compared to
Sainsbury. While Sainsbury has been doing online retailing since 1996, 99p Stores is currently in the
process of testing the viability of online retailing.
Operations Transformation The primary aim of any transformation process is to deliver value to the
customer. From primary activities such as raw material acquisition and marketing to support activities
such as procurement and human resource management, an organisation aims to create value for the
end consumer. Transforming these operations is vital for survival in an environment characterised by
stiff competition. Some of the operations

How Did Confucius Have A Good Government
Confucius, also known as King Qui was born in 551 BC, and passed away in 479 BC. Confucius was
a government official, who then came to see that the government was growing disorder and was very
chaotic. Confucius then decided to develop a new moral code due to the injustice and distress, he had
seen within the system. These laws consisted of respect, honesty, education, kindness, and strong
family bonds. Confucius believed that a good government was the basis for a peaceful and happy
society. And to have a good government you had to have good officials. Therefore, in order to have a
good official, you had to master the following five virtues that Confucius created. These virtues
included: Li, which stood for ritual etiquette, Ren, standing for kindness, Xin, requiring faithfulness,
Yi, for honesty, and Xiao, which meant having strong family values. With these virtues and laws being
said Confucius believed that if people had respect and had strong bonding, then the central
government would become strong and prosperous.
Confucius was a member of the upper class, but he also believed that education and knowledge

If you did not follow his rules than most likely your government will fall apart and turn against you.

Gun Control Mechanism
Introduction
In America, one of the major challenges for security agencies is to have Gun control. Several innocent
people s lives have been taken by this weapon and led to great moaning in the U.S. Likewise, different
people have been left immobilized due to increase gun violence crime. In the United States, these
types of challenge are arising because of issuing providing possession of unlicensed guns. For the aim
of reducing crime rates due to gun, governments must make strict balance on gun distribution, as well
as illegalize its ownership without any exception to any conditions (DeConde, 2003).
Therefore, gun violence is explained as the utilization of firearms to produce harm. Moreover, this
term signifies the general guns misuse, so broadly, it can be described as a violence and crime class
committed with the help of firearms which might not cover self defense actions, practices for law
enforcement, sports along with hunting others (DeConde, 2003).
Further includes careful use of weapons to murder, produce injury or threaten people. Among children
and adolescents, it is common who wind up providing trouble to them along with the public. The
positioning of this paper is Gun control.
Mechanisms for Implementing Gun Control
Many ways are now available for the implementation of the gun control. Getting it from the legislation
and experience of U.K, gun control must be the only government duty in addition to private security
organizations. In the U.S., it is

What Role Do Relationships Play In Shaping A Person s...
Identity is a critical aspect of the growth and development in human beings. It is defined as a
condition or character as to who a person or what a thing is; the qualities that distinguish or identify a
person. Identity influenced by relationships is when the people one associates themselves with shape
their identity. Researchers posited that it is important to recognize the process of exploring and
making commitments in interpersonal relationships is four domains: friendship, dating, sex roles, and
recreation. Relationships with friends, parents, and partners help influence an identity in a person.
They each have a specific time where one is more important than the other. Each one shapes the
person s identity, it could be for the better or for the worst. Parents are the first influence that a child
has, then peers/friends become more important, and lastly partners help finish off shaping the person s

Peers have a major role in shaping a person s identity. Children tend to have a similar identity as their
peers. Similarity among friends. Strong correlations were found. If a friend is doing something it
makes the child feel pressured into doing it to. Adolescents tend to rebel against their parents in their
teen years and that s when peers become a huge influence on shaping the teen s identity. For example
if a persons friends are doing drugs he or she may feel peer pressured. Peer pressure is influence from
members of one s peer group. If his or her friends do good things, for example, pick up trash or treat
others with respect it helps the adolescent to not liter and pick up after themselves and treat people

Competitive Interactions between Apis and Bombus Essay
The invasive European honeybees create a competitive environment for the native bumblebee as their
ecological niches (species total use of abiotic and biotic resources) overlap; thus, creating a niche
differentiation (the increase in species using resources causes a wider range of resources being used)
between the two species. The invasive and native bees exemplify a symbiotic relationship in which
interaction could possibly be detrimental to both species competition (an interaction in which species
use the same resources). Moreover, the invasive European honeybee (Apis mellifera) decreases the
population of the native bumblebee (Bombus occidentalis) in northern California by creating a niche
overlap and competition for available ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although it is difficult to directly exemplify the impact of invasive European honeybees on native
bumblebees through floral resources, many studies prove there is an indirect relationship between the
species concerning overlapping of their ecological niche (Thomson 2004). Diane Thomson conducted
an experiment measuring the impacts of the invasive honeybee on the native bumblebee through
competition for nectar and pollen resources. Each summer from 1998 through 2000, two to three Apis
colonies (each consisting of 10,000 15,000 workers) were introduced into three sites from early June
to early September (Thomson 2004). Each Apis colony was placed 2 km apart. For the native
bumblebees, B. occidentalis colonies were located at 10 m, 500 m, and 1000 m away from each site.
Since there are three distances, and three different sites, there were nine B. occidentalis colonies in
total. The B. occidentalis species was placed in the same location every year; however, the distance
treatment was altered (Thomson 2004). To reduce the factors that may alter the results, laboratory
reared colonies were used to minimize any differences in the Bombus colonies and weighed to keep
the amount consistent (Thomson 2004). Overall, Thomson s experiment exemplified the direct effects
of the invasive Apis species on reproductive success and foraging activity of the native Bombus.
Observations showed Apis foragers declined with distances in flower patches (Thomson 2004).

SUBJECT:
Proposal to Implement a New Training and Development Program
Attached is the proposal to implement a new training and development program at English Home
Furnishings. This new program will go in effect on November 1, 2016. This four week program will
allow all employees to have the same experience and knowledge when selling the products for the
company.
Due to the lack of training with new hires, this has caused a decline in sales due to lack of knowledge
and experience. The following four week program will prepare all new sales employees to be able to
be confident and efficient on the sales floor. Week one will include an overall introduction to the
program. Week two will teach the new hires all products (living room, bedroom, mattress, dining
room, office, accessories, and etc.) the company offers. Week three will breakdown all of the financing
programs and how to run the PLH system to create cash sales and contracts. Week four will allow the
new hires to put what they learn and work the sales floor with guidance of their superior.
In order to get this new training and development program started by November 1, please respond no
later than September 30, 2016 by 5pm. If there are any changes or suggestions, please send them to

Stereotypes Of Dumb Blonde
What does a blonde do when her laptop computer freezes? She sticks it in the microwave. We have all
heard the dumb blonde jokes that are now the vast majority of jokes told. Media has branded the
blonde as what the world knows to be the archetype of the dumb girl. Today a member of society is
judged on his/her looks, personality, and money. However, no matter how smart, poor, or passionate
one is, as a blonde, one is automatically stereotyped. The stereotype points to a human being that is
dumb, pretty, rich, and stuck up. This paper will discuss how the stereotype is used, to received, and
branded.
Media may have branded the blonde stereotype, but recently media has been debunking it over the

The dumb blonde is a popular culture stereotype often applied to women with blonde hair. Now the
blonde has been branded by the dumb blonde impression. In the article No Logo by Naomi Klein it is
stated that the brand is not a reflection of quality but a reflection of what the marketing department
wants it to stand for (Klein, 3). For example the everyday blonde symbols a dingy and arrogant but
attractive and popular woman. This is an identity that people have adapted in to their lifestyles. A few
years ago society seen the brainless blonde everywhere partly due to the marketing corporation
because it a part of advertisement that fits a particular style of people.
From the movie Legally Blonde to the hit television show The vampire Dairies the dumb blonde
stereotype is beginning to change. Blondes are not really that dumb. For instance Legally Blonde
shows a woman going through law school and winning her case. Media may have created the dumb
blonde stereotype but with the new movies it is starting to debunk the whole idea now. Media has

Victorian Era Wedding
Marriage in the Victorian time period was carefully contemplated, as Rosenberg addresses that
Wedding ceremonies were seen as an expression of Victorian social values that that the Queen wished
to renounce, while on the other hand, such occasions were viewed as having national and collective
significance (Rosenberg 98). Love played a very tiny role in the Victorian Era marriages. An
engagement was more approached as a business deal. Once married all possessions went to the
husband as property. Anatolyevna emphasizes how Victorian weddings should be transformed from a
formalized procedure to a celebration, a holiday for a young couple in honor of their initiation

Because it all depended on your wealth on whom you were going to spend the rest of your life with.
For example, if you were un employed you were not eligible to marry an employed man or women.
Queen Victoria believed that if you were not in the same wealth class you wouldn t be reliable in your
marriage. Although, the Victorian time age was very serve, the exceptional backgrounds were very
thought provoking. Furthermore, the Victorian era wedding customs were stimulating because of their
uniqueness. Dawn Hurst demonstrates how A Church bell at the beginning of the ceremony [drives]

any people who do weddings like this anymore. People are less likely to achieve this tradition because
the marriages now aren t very organized and rushed. While the Victorian time period wedding
traditions were unique they were also very elegant during the time period. Lastly the Victorian age
wedding customs were attention grabbing because of their elegance. A Victorian wedding is all about
class and grace. Queen Victoria was the one who set the trend for white wedding gowns and white
floral arrangements. Now in modern day weddings, people have made up myths and different
assumptions of the white wedding gown. But in the Victorian time when the white gowns were

The Physics of Roller Coasters Essay
The Physics of Roller Coasters
The roller coaster has its beginnings in Russia where during the 1600 s. People crafted sleds out of
wood and built hills made of ice blocks. The hills had sand at the bottom to help slow down the sleds
so they would not crash when they reached the bottom of the hill.1 Over time, the roller coaster has
become more complex. They now are taller, faster and are designed out of different materials like
wood and steel. Although roller coasters are fun and exciting, the questions, what allows them to twist
and turn, go up and down hills at a fairly good speed? Why do they not fall off of the track when it
goes through a loop? The answer to these questions and others about roller coasters lies in the
application ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then as the coaster begins its decent down the first hill, the energy is converted back into kinetic
energy as the train is pulled toward the Earth by gravity. Gravity is the traditional source of power for
roller coasters that accelerates the train as it goes on its hilly, twisty journey.3 Gravity is a unit of
acceleration, that is always present, that causes free falling objects on Earth to change their speed at a
rate of approximately 10 m/s (32ft/s) every second.1 So, as the train goes down the hills of the track it
has a positive acceleration giving it the necessary potential energy to climb the next hill, make a turn,
or travel through a loop.
Also, as the train goes down the hills and loops, it experiences a free fall effect.
This occurs when an object falls and is not inhibited by other objects2 (314 315). As the train goes
down the hill, the coasters mass causes it to accelerate faster than the people in the car. During the free
fall stages of the ride the train does not exert any pressure on the riders or the track causing the riders
to feel momentarily weightlessness. This is why the train has wheels on the bottom of the track and
the passengers of the train have some sort of restraining device to hold them into their seats.3 So, as
the train goes down the hill it is actually falling, causing the velocity of the train to increase due to the

The Search for Enlightenment Essay
The Search for Enlightenment
Nature, I think we can deduce, refers not only to animals, plants, and mountains, but rather to the
universe as a whole the entirety of the physical universe ranging from human nature to quantum
nature while also including, plants, animals, and mountains as part of this greater whole. It has been
the search for knowledge and truths of the wonders and mysteries of nature, or rather the universe (in
other words science) that has, over the past few years been the underlying motivation in my life. Not
only do I find the search for knowledge exciting and intellectually stimulating, but I have found that
this motivation gives meaning or rather a direction to my life. I don t wish to imply that science and ...

This is a fundamental misunderstanding of the purpose of science and one that I disagree with. Instead
my drive for competency has made science seem attractive, not because it tries to replace God and
metaphysical ideology, but rather that it explains the universe without having to rely on untestable
assumptions (which we can t know to be true) about how the universe should or would make sense to
be. As I believe that there is no God or transcendental explanation for life or the cosmos, I aspire to
understand human behavior, not in terms of metaphysical and transcendental explanations, but rather
in an empirical approach based on logic, reason, and the consiliecnce (Wilson 1998, p.8) of the
sciences and knowledge.
Yet, my innate desire for competence leads to another important motivation that affects my being, that
is the quest for authenticism. To be authentic, I refer to being original, honest about my thoughts to
myself and others; aware and skeptical of the motivation and assumptions of culture and society;
attempting to recognize and dissect assumptions of my creation and that of culture and societies; being
able to relate to others; and finally, being hyper conscious of myself. By hyper conscious, I refer to the
state of consciousness deeper than that of awareness of one s existence, that being the awareness of
one s motivations the constant introspection, thought, and questioning of one s actions and

Qualitative amp; Quantitative Research Methods
There are two types of research methods: qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative research methods
are complex meaningful analyses characterized by processes and meanings that are not measured in
terms of mathematical measurements. Quantitative research however, relies and builds on
mathematical procedures and methods, such as frequency, quality, amount and statistical procedure.
There are unique characteristics which distinguish one research process from the other.
Purpose
The purpose of research is to answer questions by using a predefined set of procedures (Mack,

Because the data obtained by qualitative and quantitative research methods are different, they must be
evaluated differently also.
In order to ensure the quality and establish the trustworthiness of qualitative data, researchers may call
upon their peers to evaluate the narrative in order to determine if there are inconsistencies,
contradictions, or other instances of researcher bias (researcher proving only that which they choose or
anticipate)(Smith amp; Davis, 2010). Additionally, qualitative researchers also indicate the procedures
they used to validate data. This process is called confirmability. In addition to confirmability,
qualitative researchers are also concerned with credibility. Credibility refers to the accuracy of the
study. Because qualitative research is social or human in nature, it is best to allow the subjects of the
study determine accuracy. However, quantitative data is evaluated in a different manner.
In order to ensure that quantitative data is obtained from an acceptable instrument, it is necessary to
determine the validity and reliability of the instrument being used. It is important to minimize
subjectivity in quantitative research. The researcher must ensure that the surveys, questionnaires, and
tests, used are not open for interpretation or the results may be skewed. Researchers can verify the
usefulness of an instrument through validity and reliability. Validity refers to the extent to

Rio Grande And South Padre Island Case Study
I am pessimistic about the human race because it is too ingenious for its own good. Our approach to

The Purpose Of A Mousetrap Car
The purpose of my mousetrap car design was to design a car that was both quick/traveled and creative.
The design of my car was one main piece of basswood and having two thin pieces on the side of that.
Each of those side pieces would have two whole in them (at the ends) so that I would be able to stick
an axel through them and put wheels at then end. I used a total of four wheels on my car so that the
whole thing was balanced. I used lego wheels and lego axles because I knew that because the axles fit
perfectly in the wheels, that the wheels would be straight and move easily. My wheels had a lot of
tread to them which helps them maintain a high degree of friction and it gives them a better grip to the
floor. I hypothesized that if the length

Supernatural And Spiritual Reasoning Regarding The...
Supernatural and spiritual reasoning regarding the physical properties of the universe are often
discredited because they lack sufficient evidence or overlook natural laws. However, many people still
rely on these ideologies as a doctrine governing their lives and world. Alternatively, the world has
shifted towards naturalism a practice which follows the physical properties of the world due to an
advancement in scientific inquiry and technology. Carl Sagan, author of The Demon Haunted World:
Science as a Candle in the Dark, claims that naturalism is the only reasonable framework to accurately
describe physical properties of the world. Sagan s claim is valid due to the self correcting mechanisms
found within naturalism that produce evidence with certainty.
To begin, Sagan constructs his discussion by defining hope, which is a feeling of expectation and
desire for something certain to happen. Science acts as a mechanism to find the truth in avenues which
we seek it. Every scientist hopes that he/she is right, but science is what makes them right. What
makes science right, according to Sagan, is that it has its own built in mechanism to correct itself
(Sagan, 27). Sagan is correct, the scientific method itself is designed to be a replicated process. That
is, if one scientist were to make an observation, form a hypothesis, run an experiment, record data, and
make a conclusion. Then, another scientist could repeat the process and results could be compared
between the two.

Logical Fallacies. Logical Fallacies Can Be Found In Many
Logical Fallacies
Logical Fallacies can be found in many forms of persuasions, in infomercials, political debates,
common discussion, everywhere. Although Logical Fallacies are very common, they mar our
arguments and should be avoided. In order to avoid them we must first learn to recognize them. To
fully understand Logical Fallacies, we will look at the definition of Logical Fallacies, some examples
of Logical Fallacies, classifications of Logical Fallacies, and finally why we should, and how we can,
avoid them.
In simplest form, Logical Fallacies are fallacious arguments, fallacious meaning logically unsound or
misleading. However a more in depth understanding can be constructed from three definitions for

Schmidt s article, On Classifications of Fallacies including the author s own classification system.
Although they all attempted to classify the complicated Logical Fallacies, most of the philosophers
presented in On Classifications of Fallacies agreed that there was no definite way to classify Logical
Fallacies. The classification of Logical Fallacies was first tackled in 350 B.C., by Greek philosopher
Aristotle, and continues to be tackled, as philosophers search for a better way to define them. In
general Logical Fallacies are defined by where the logic goes wrong, however one philosopher,
Ronald Munson, attempted to classify them according to what type of argument they support
(Schmidt). No matter the way the classification system is drawn there is always Fallacies that
crossover into multiple categories. Any classification system that eliminates crossovers is too complex
to fulfil the purpose of a classifying, which is to simplify. The classifications found in Schmidt s
article On Classifications of Fallacies, attempt to create formal classification systems, however in our
pursuit of understanding Logical Fallacies a simple working classification will do fine.
The Purdue Owl article, Logical Fallacies, provides a simple classification, Fallacies can be either
illegitimate arguments or irrelevant points (Weber). From my understanding illegitimate argument
Logical Fallacies rely on faulty evidence or misrepresented evidence to support

Doubles In A Tale Of Two Cities
Dickens uses motif and character to show how dissatisfaction in the general public can bring down
society, and can only be resuscitated through a sacrifice and resurrection. The motif of doubles is seen
throughout A Tale of Two Cities. One such counterpart is London and Paris. This pair of doubles
illustrates how discontent can make a society crumble. Each capital represents the country that they
are the capital of. In the beginning of the book, there are constant comparsions between Paris and
London, whether by the country, city, or its people. Vicious violence occurred in both countries. In
England, there is no trust, as shown by how a highway man in the dark was a City tradesman in the

However, in the end, he transforms into a person even better than Darnay had been. The night before
Carton s sacrifice, the reader can see that Carton s mind is very clear; he knows his path. His plan to
save Darnay shows that he is good at making quick decisions and going straight on to fulfill his plans.
Carton s last decisions fully represent his skill and intelligence, though all odds said otherwise (Heung
1). The reason behind Carton s decision is very much like the reason behind the crucifixion of Christ;
God loved the world so much that he sent his son, Christ, to die for the world (NIV, John 3:16). Carton
loved Lucie and would do anything to protect her and everyone she loves. He switched places with
Darnay and sacrificed himself so that Lucie could still have Darnay, whom she loves, while Carton
resurrects through Darnay s offspring, and becomes a Christ figure. Likewise, God loved the world
and sent his son to switch places with the people of the world, so that they would be saved from their
sin and would not need to suffer for their sin but could live with God, who loves them. Furthermore,
Lucie s love for Carton, and hope and belief that there was potential in him, is also another part that
contributes to Carton s decision ( A Tale 2). This is like how the love of Christ changes people s lives.
When Carton resurrects, like Christ, his life gains meaning and value . He resurrects as Darnay s son,
who fulfills the potential that Carton had. As Carton says, it is a far, far better thing that I do, then I
have ever done (Dickens 390). Dickens uses Carton to show that any country that wishes to become
something of meaning and value must rise above everything, even their death , and sacrifice
everything and resurrect itself in order to start again and become better ( A Tale

In this essay, I ll be analysing a plethora of techniques used in an RSPCA letter: emotive language,
anecdotes, repetition, direct address, imperatives and statistics. The purpose of this text is to persuade
us to donate £3 a month and each technique assists that. Firstly, the text uses emotive language to
make the reader feel sorrowful and sympathetic towards the animals: cold and trembling . The reader
will be influenced by these words as they create a picture in their mind of how dreadful the situation
is. There can be numerous effects when it comes to this technique a reason why the text heavily

reader the most because they have the widest range of effects: guilt, fury, regret or misery. The

insight. These outcomes are achieved by making every story even more tragic with the use of emotive
language: heartless , terrified and callousness . Additionally, these words will tap into the reader s state

Sex Trafficking, Prostitution, And Prostitution
Although many believe that slavery was abolished many years ago, it is actually a part of an organized
crime that is growing faster than any other. It a deceitful process that tricks many people, mostly
women, into believing that they will be safe and secure. It has quite the opposite effects. The form of
slavery that is being referred to here is sex trafficking. It is all around the world. Many do not realize
that it is happening in their own community. It is happening right here in Saginaw, Michigan. It is
categorized with prostitution, but prostitution alone is more of a choice and sex trafficking is forced
prostitution. Although the women and men involved are called prostitutes, they are not doing it to
make money for themselves. They are forced to do it through their pimps which are the individuals in
charge of the prostitution business. Forced sex slavery is in correlation with physical, mental, and
emotional abuse. What if prostitution was legal? A woman would be able to be a prostitute if she
wanted. She could do whatever she wants with her body without the consequence of being arrested.
Although, it would be harder to identify if the woman was doing it because she wanted to or doing it
because she was forced by a sex trafficker. Would prostitution legalization affect the amount of sex
trafficking that is already occurring? If people are educated on sex trafficking and what the signs of it
are, we may be able to help those in need. It can also be

Traditionalism In Texas
The United States of America is a country priding itself on providing equal opportunity for the right of
life, liberty, and property. These unalienable rights, according to the Founding Fathers, were not to be
taken away or denied by the American government. Also known as a natural right, the right to life can
be classified as a citizen s right to be protected by the government from abuse or death. Property
classifies the right that a citizen has for owning materialistic items and land for which can be
considered private. Finally, the right of liberty presented in the Constitution for a citizen refers to
many different aspects ranging from freedom of speech and expression, right to bear arms, freedom of
religion, freedom against search and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Texas case served as the tip of the iceberg into advancing the gay rights movement in Texas and
nationwide. Without the case as well as the specific decision made by the Supreme Court, Texas
would still be majorly intolerant, discriminant, and unrepresented by the LGBT community and
supporters. Lawrence and Garner were two men who fought for their love, their privacy, and their
rights, and they came out successfully in the end in turn affecting all of society and many events that
have taken place since 2003. Considering if sodomy laws were still implemented in Texas, an injustice
and unconstitutional hindrance would be in place fostering the traditional culture and conservative
views that are voiced as the majority in Texas. In the past few years, Texas Democrats have voiced
their support of same sex marriage, the next step in the gay rights movement. In 2012 their support
and advocacy in favor of same sex marriage began and it would not have been possible without the
existence of the Lawrence v. Texas case and its six to three ruling declaring the sodomy laws in Texas
unconstitutional. The LGBT community wants what all Americans expect: life, liberty, and property.
The pursuit of happiness is the added bonus as to what they strive for, and it was made possible by the
ruling of the Lawrence v. Texas case in

Honestly, when you said we were going to watch a musical I thought, oh cool it s going to be like Phantom of the Opera , or High School Musical , but it wasn t like that at all. The costumes were pretty cool and the special effects were really awesome. I thought it was going to be really boring and dry, but there were some funny parts. These three concepts/theories are able to leave an impact through the duration of an individual s development and life. Classical conditioning, operant conditioning and observational learning have been able to play a pivotal role through my initial fear then eventual confidence with public speaking. The neutral stimulus is a stimulus that at first doesn t produce a significant response but will eventually become a conditioned stimulus, especially in classical conditioning. Then when the bell rings and is presented along with a bowl of food the dog will respond by salivating. Now, the individual will only have to ring the bell (without the bowl of food present) in order for the dog to respond by salivating, this in turn being the conditioned response. This type of learning process was used in similar way when I had to present in front of the class. I knew I would have to eventually present my final project in front of my class. If a woman chooses this kind of challenge, then she is more than capable. Women are as tough as men. They can do what a man can do, and if that is going into combat then yes, why not? Women can fight, shoot, run, work hard, and win for this country like the men of this country do. Women have been in combat for a long time, but now women are actually in combat rather than helping the men out with injuries, being a laundresses, a cook, and a nurse. Women can go into combat, just like a man. Women should be let onto infantry and artillery positions. Women have been involved in our nation s military since the Revolutionary War, serving not only as nurses and cooks, but also supplying water to thirsty soldiers on the battlefield. Throughout history, men have always fought our battles while women stood by, but what if I told you that in some countries, women are fighting alongside men inside combat zones? Here in the U.S., there is an immeasurable disagreement about equality in the military. One of the supporting arguments is that several other countries outside the U.S. already have women serving on the front lines. Countries such as Canada, New Zealand, and Australia, all have allowed women to serve in any type combat that they qualify in and or meet requirements. The invasive and native bees exemplify a symbiotic relationship in which interaction could possibly be detrimental to both species competition (an interaction in which species use the same resources). Although it is difficult to directly exemplify the impact of invasive European honeybees on native bumblebees through floral resources, many studies prove there is an indirect relationship between the species concerning overlapping of their ecological niche (Thomson 2004). Diane Thomson conducted an experiment measuring the impacts of the invasive honeybee on the native bumblebee through competition for nectar and pollen resources. Each summer from 1998 through 2000, two to three Apis colonies (each consisting of 10,000 15,000 workers) were introduced into three sites from early June to early September (Thomson 2004). Each Apis colony was placed 2 km apart. For the native bumblebees, B. occidentalis colonies were located at 10 m, 500 m, and 1000 m away from each site. Since there are three distances, and three different sites, there were nine B. occidentalis colonies in total. The B. occidentalis species was placed in the same location every year; however, the distance treatment was altered (Thomson 2004). To reduce the factors that may alter the results, laboratory reared colonies were used to minimize any differences in the Bombus colonies and weighed to keep the amount consistent (Thomson 2004). Victorian Era Wedding Marriage in the Victorian time period was carefully contemplated, as Rosenberg addresses that Wedding ceremonies were seen as an expression of Victorian social values that that the Queen wished to renounce, while on the other hand, such occasions were viewed as having national and collective significance (Rosenberg 98). Love played a very tiny role in the Victorian Era marriages. An engagement was more approached as a business deal. Once married all possessions went to the husband as property. • 28. The Physics of Roller Coasters Essay The Physics of Roller Coasters The roller coaster has its beginnings in Russia where during the 1600 s. People crafted sleds out of wood and built hills made of ice blocks. The hills had sand at the bottom to help slow down the sleds so they would not crash when they reached the bottom of the hill.1 Over time, the roller coaster has become more complex. They now are taller, faster and are designed out of different materials like wood and steel. Although roller coasters are fun and exciting, the questions, what allows them to twist and turn, go up and down hills at a fairly good speed? Why do they not fall off of the track when it goes through a loop? The answer to these questions and others about roller coasters lies in the application ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then as the coaster begins its decent down the first hill, the energy is converted back into kinetic energy as the train is pulled toward the Earth by gravity. Gravity is the traditional source of power for roller coasters that accelerates the train as it goes on its hilly, twisty journey.3 Gravity is a unit of acceleration, that is always present, that causes free falling objects on Earth to change their speed at a rate of approximately 10 m/s (32ft/s) every second.1 So, as the train goes down the hills of the track it has a positive acceleration giving it the necessary potential energy to climb the next hill, make a turn, or travel through a loop. Also, as the train goes down the hills and loops, it experiences a free fall effect. This occurs when an object falls and is not inhibited by other objects2 (314 315). As the train goes down the hill, the coasters mass causes it to accelerate faster than the people in the car. During the free fall stages of the ride the train does not exert any pressure on the riders or the track causing the riders to feel momentarily weightlessness. This is why the train has wheels on the bottom of the track and the passengers of the train have some sort of restraining device to hold them into their seats.3 So, as the train goes down the hill it is actually falling, causing the velocity of the train to increase due to the ... The Search for Enlightenment Essay The Search for Enlightenment Nature, I think we can deduce, refers not only to animals, plants, and mountains, but rather to the universe as a whole the entirety of the physical universe ranging from human nature to quantum nature while also including, plants, animals, and mountains as part of this greater whole. It has been the search for knowledge and truths of the wonders and mysteries of nature, or rather the universe (in other words science) that has, over the past few years been the underlying motivation in my life. Instead my drive for competency has made science seem attractive, not because it tries to replace God and metaphysical ideology, but rather that it explains the universe without having to rely on untestable assumptions (which we can t know to be true) about how the universe should or would make sense to be. As I believe that there is no God or transcendental explanation for life or the cosmos, I aspire to understand human behavior, not in terms of metaphysical and transcendental explanations, but rather in an empirical approach based on logic, reason, and the consiliecnce (Wilson 1998, p.8) of the sciences and knowledge. Yet, my innate desire for competence leads to another important motivation that affects my being, that is the quest for authenticism. To be authentic, I refer to being original, honest about my thoughts to myself and others; aware and skeptical of the motivation and assumptions of culture and society; attempting to recognize and dissect assumptions of my creation and that of culture and societies; being able to relate to others; and finally, being hyper conscious of myself. By hyper conscious, I refer to the state of consciousness deeper than that of awareness of one s existence, that being the awareness of one s motivations the constant introspection, thought, and questioning of one s actions and ... Qualitative Quantitative Research Methods Qualitative amp; Quantitative Research Methods PSY 326 Dr. Willow Aureala March 29, 2011 Qualitative amp; Quantitative Research Methods There are two types of research methods: qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative research methods are complex meaningful analyses characterized by processes and meanings that are not measured in terms of mathematical measurements. Quantitative research however, relies and builds on mathematical procedures and methods, such as frequency, quality, amount and statistical procedure. There are unique characteristics which distinguish one research process from the other. In order to ensure the quality and establish the trustworthiness of qualitative data, researchers may call upon their peers to evaluate the narrative in order to determine if there are inconsistencies, contradictions, or other instances of researcher bias (researcher proving only that which they choose or anticipate)(Smith amp; Davis, 2010). Additionally, qualitative researchers also indicate the procedures they used to validate data. This process is called confirmability. In addition to confirmability, qualitative researchers are also concerned with credibility. Credibility refers to the accuracy of the study. Because qualitative research is social or human in nature, it is best to allow the subjects of the study determine accuracy. However, quantitative data is evaluated in a different manner. In order to ensure that quantitative data is obtained from an acceptable instrument, it is necessary to determine the validity and reliability of the instrument being used. It is important to minimize subjectivity in quantitative research. The researcher must ensure that the surveys, questionnaires, and tests, used are not open for interpretation or the results may be skewed. • 33. Supernatural And Spiritual Reasoning Regarding The... Supernatural and spiritual reasoning regarding the physical properties of the universe are often discredited because they lack sufficient evidence or overlook natural laws. However, many people still rely on these ideologies as a doctrine governing their lives and world. Alternatively, the world has shifted towards naturalism a practice which follows the physical properties of the world due to an advancement in scientific inquiry and technology. Carl Sagan, author of The Demon Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark, claims that naturalism is the only reasonable framework to accurately describe physical properties of the world. Sagan s claim is valid due to the self correcting mechanisms found within naturalism that produce evidence with certainty. To begin, Sagan constructs his discussion by defining hope, which is a feeling of expectation and desire for something certain to happen. Science acts as a mechanism to find the truth in avenues which we seek it. Every scientist hopes that he/she is right, but science is what makes them right. What makes science right, according to Sagan, is that it has its own built in mechanism to correct itself (Sagan, 27). Sagan is correct, the scientific method itself is designed to be a replicated process. That is, if one scientist were to make an observation, form a hypothesis, run an experiment, record data, and make a conclusion. The night before Carton s sacrifice, the reader can see that Carton s mind is very clear; he knows his path. His plan to save Darnay shows that he is good at making quick decisions and going straight on to fulfill his plans. Carton s last decisions fully represent his skill and intelligence, though all odds said otherwise (Heung 1). The reason behind Carton s decision is very much like the reason behind the crucifixion of Christ; God loved the world so much that he sent his son, Christ, to die for the world (NIV, John 3:16). Carton loved Lucie and would do anything to protect her and everyone she loves. He switched places with Darnay and sacrificed himself so that Lucie could still have Darnay, whom she loves, while Carton resurrects through Darnay s offspring, and becomes a Christ figure. Likewise, God loved the world and sent his son to switch places with the people of the world, so that they would be saved from their sin and would not need to suffer for their sin but could live with God, who loves them. Furthermore, Lucie s love for Carton, and hope and belief that there was potential in him, is also another part that contributes to Carton s decision ( A Tale 2). This is like how the love of Christ changes people s lives. When Carton resurrects, like Christ, his life gains meaning and value . He resurrects as Darnay s son, who fulfills the potential that Carton had. As Carton says, it is a far, far better thing that I do, then I have ever done (Dickens 390).
