Traditional And Modern Family
The modern family is a controversial topic that many disagree on. Some think that today s modern
family is bad and should be more traditional, with family values of the past, while, on the other hand,
some believe that the modern family, full of technology and evolving family values, is a good thing
and should be celebrated. These opinions about the modern vs traditional family style are not as
important as the four main components of a family. These components are the ability to take the idea
of marriage/a relationship serious when considering starting a family, a supportive and beneficial
parent child relationship, a financially stable standing, and the ability to allow children to make their
own decisions about things like political issues. I feel that if these four parts of a family are not met,
then the family will fall apart, which is what we see a lot of in today s age. Whether it be financial
situations that drive a couple apart, a hurtful parent child relationship, over sheltering of a child so that
they follow their parents beliefs and values without question, or the couple does not take their
marriage seriously when considering starting a family, meaning they do not openly discuss all of the
above situations, financial or how to raise a child.
When considering starting a family, the most important component is being able to take the idea of
marriage/a relationship seriously. You are able to openly discuss the other components like financial
based topics or how

Gender Wage Gap Between Men And Women
You see charts and graphs of different types, shapes and colors used by writers all the time. But have
you ever thought of the reason for that or what role they have? Are they a critical piece in the article or
do they just sum up information and gather numbers in one place? To engage these questions, I will
consider the visual presentation of the gender wage gap between men and women by different
journalists. By the time you finish reading this essay, you will learn many facts about the graphs, how
they convey quantitative information, and how they differ from the language. Aside form the graph s
positives you should be aware of their potential for manipulation and that they are not as reliable and
unbiased as they might look. Writers always search for effective means to represent their ideas and
convey information to the audience. They aim to be persuasive in their debates and draw a strong
connection with the readers to affect them. To approach the gender wage gap issue, some writers use
only the language. In the article Fighting The Gender Pay Gap, the author Carl Richard addresses the
issue as a personal problem that he discussed with his daughter and his friends. He draws a direct
connection with the readers who link that to their personal experiences. Also, Richard, through his
words, is encouraging the audience to start taking actions to solve this problem that affects many other
women like his daughter. By the advice directed to his daughter, he is sending an

Quotes In Cool Hand Luke
Introduction: Nothing can be a really cool hand, once spoken by Luke, is one of the countless quotes
outlying Luke s persistent nature (Carroll and Rosenberg 1967). The movie, Cool Hand Luke, directed
by Stuart Rosenberg in 1967, is a movie about ultimate sacrifice. Luke, the protagonist of the story,
after being sentenced to two years for destruction of municipal property, constantly defied the prison s
regulations. He became a leader for the inmates, and ultimately was killed. Luke was a persistent
character, and never gave up fighting even when he had nothing. Paragraph 1: Luke can be described
as a man that is undoubtfully determined. After being sentenced to two years, it can be immediately
seen he does not fit in with the other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was found and brought back both times. The captain describes this, as a failure to communicate,
and wanted to break Luke of his mindset on escaping (Carroll Rosenberg 1967). He was punished by
having to dig a hole in the yard, fill it back in, and then be beat. Luke eventually breaks and begs to
not to beat again, which led the captain to believe he finally sent the message to Luke. Luke even says,
Calling it a job don t make it right, boss (Carroll Rosenberg 1967). Here, it appears that Luke has
given up for good, and he has succumbed to the prison s ways even though he makes the comment
that it is not right. This is not true though, and Luke once again packs his courage to escape again.
After he made his third escape by stealing a car, he was fatally shot. Even when he was caught, Luke
did not surrender. He walked out, but he never put his hands up to surrender and was shot while once
again defying the cops. Dragline put his hands up, and while they both walked out of the building,
Luke never once gave the impression that he was surrendering to the prison s system. In all three
attempts at escaping he never gave up, and each time he tried harder to get away proving his

Vark Learning Styles
VARK Analysis
Every one has a mix of learning styles; some people may find that they have a dominant style of
learning, with far less use of other styles in different circumstances. There is neither right or wrong
style nor your style is fixed, you can develop your less dominant style and make improvement in your
dominant ones. Your learning styles have more influence on your learning than you know it, they
guide the way you learn. They also change the way you retain information and perceive experiences
internally ( Overview of Learning Styles, n.d). Individuals have pathways that are specific to them,
when information enters those pathways the information is retaining in short term memory. Repeated

Writing the notes in the form of multiple choice questions and essays and rewriting the essays in
different words will be helpful too. Another great thing I learned is converting the diagrams and flow
charts into lists, points or essays will also help in my preferred learning style. Lastly, within my
kinesthetic learning style, I learned that by using case studies of real people would enhance my
learning experience. Also by visiting the places and doing role play when possible, I can learn more
about the topic.
The best way for a person to learn depends on the person, of course. It is a well known fact now that
people have different learning styles that work best for them. ( Understanding Different Learning
Styles, n.d) In order to become life long learner one need to learn the importance of self evaluation.
When you evaluate yourself, you are assessing what you know, what you do not know and what you
like to know. You begin to recognize your own strengths and weaknesses. By recognizing and
understanding your own learning styles, you can use techniques better suited to you. This improves
the speed and quality of your learning. ( Self Evaluation, n.d) References

English Reformation Dbq Essay
Among the many religious changes that occurred throughout Europe in the sixteenth century, few
were as widely influential as the Reformation. There were three streams of the Reformation: the
common class, the educated middle class, and the monarchs and princes. All three streams wanted the
church to be fixed and hoped it could combine old ideas and new ones. The Reformation was
influenced by many different people, yet the most important was John Wyclif, who stated that the
church did not need possession in order to be powerful. Different ideologies came from the influences
of Wyclif, and many others. Lutheranism began in the mid 1500 s by Martin Luther, and he developed
a doctrine of Justification by Faith where he wrote of how people stay in the church and get to heaven

Along with Lutheranism, another ideology called Calvinism began during the Reformation.
Calvinism, run by John Calvin, focused on predestination the idea where God had already picked his
people s destinies when they were young and nothing they did would affect these destinies. A third
ideology also came into play during the Reformation called Zwinglism. Run by Zwingli, a German, he
began a reform of the Swiss city Zurich, and created the Priesthood of True Believers. Following the
new ideologies, the English Reformation began during this time period. The most important change
during the English reformation began when Queen Elizabeth took the throne back from Mary and
turned the church into a Protestant church. During the Protestant Reformation, Anabaptist sects
became present in Europe, and they all believed in the Inner light a concept of spiritual revelation.
Through all of these different factors, the Protestant Reformation marked a change in the way people
thought of the church, and changed the Roman

Utilitarian Theory of Punishment in the Criminal Justice...
There is an ongoing problem in our society regarding punishment and responsibility. We, as a society,
tend to look away when it comes to how criminals are being punished and maybe we should be paying
more attention. Violence seems to be an integral part of our society, some raise their children with
violence, we watch it on television, read it in newspapers and books and now we are even playing
violent video games. When it comes to the judicial system the majority of citizens do not even know
how individuals are being punished or if the punishment is too harsh, not severe enough or if the
individual even needs punishment because what they may need is psychiatric help. Behavioral
scientist, Karl Menninger, believes that our prisons are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The utilitarian theory of punishment is another approach to the criminal justice system. Richard B.
Brandt believes that this type of punishment is frequently found in Great Britain and the United States.
He believes that utilitarian s differ in their thoughts as to what is the ideal system would be but the
punishment extended should be fair and that the threat of punishment may be more important than the
punishment itself. Brandt discusses the difference in the prosecution and defense used to obtain
maximum utility and how the punishment should be implemented and how to mitigate the
punishment.
Brandt also discusses how utilitarian s believe that reform needs to take place in the criminal justice
system. What is being proposed begins with reforming the juvenile court system with more psychiatric
treatment and programs to assist with crime prevention as well as asking for more social awareness to
help these programs. This reform would then be extended to the adult population. After a guilty
verdict is rendered, the experts would complete an evaluation and decisions would be made regarding
treatment for each individual and a timeline created to establish when such individual could be
reintegrated back into society. This type of sentence may not follow utilitarian views but there views

When Loki brought the little white fur ball home, he was nervous about how well they would bond.
The woman at the shelter said it may take time, but to be patient and everything would be ok. Excited
for her arrival, he set up her feeding, sleeping and litter box area, all before he had picked her up from
the shelter. Sitting down with the carrier on his bed, he opened the door. The fur ball stayed inside and
wouldn t come out. Loki waited patiently. Well, patiently for Loki. After a few minutes, he reached in
and pulled her out. Once free of her cage, she immediately ran up his arm, onto his shoulder and
underneath the back of his long, black, hair...and stayed there. Trying to reach for her, the kitten s
claws gripped his shirt and would not let go. Sighing, he reached for a book and leaned back against
the headboard. After a while, he felt her begin to purr. He smiled. The fur ball was a quick study, she
mastered her litter box and her food bowls like a champ, and Loki praised her for it. Who s a good ...

The True Language Of Love
The True Language of Love
When reading early British texts, readers often notice that two main themes are recurring within the
stories and poems of the time. These themes are love and religion; both of these were important within
the culture. However, the readers may not realize that the language used in describing the two
different themes is not different at all. In fact, the language of love and the language of religion are
very similar, especially in medieval texts. Two texts that provide an excellent example of this type of
language are Marie de France s Lanval and Margery Kempe s The Book of Margery Kempe.
Comparing the language used in these works with the biblical book Song of Songs, it is clear that the
language used in the texts of the medieval period doubles as both religious and romantic.
Song of Songs, or Song of Solomon, is a book of the bible that focuses on Christ s love for his people.
Within the book, Christ is portrayed as the bridegroom and Christians as his bride. According to
Vivian de Sola Pinto, the book is the nuptial song of King Solomon and his Egyptian Bride, but is also
an allusion to the Love Union and Communion between Christ and the church , and even further,
Christ and every believing soul (Pinto). Using this explanation, not only is the language in this biblical
book different from the other books of the Bible, but also it blends the language of love and the
language of religion. Using this philosophy about the

Political Issues On Climate Change Essay
Political Issues on Climate Change In today s political climate, individuals are more polarized than
ever over climate issues. We don t see much agreement that for whatever the reason, climate change is
affecting the Earth. The issues over climate change has hit the media and the environmentalist has
done a lot to shined light on the issue as well but, a lot of the citizens still believe that global warming
isn t real. If we are not educated about the issues regarding a sustainable living and about the climate
changes going on in current world, then the issue can t be solved. Educating children when they are
young can be a great way to teach living a sustainable life style. We the people and the politicians
need to take a stand and create awareness in schools about living a sustainable life and educate the
new generations to care about the negative human impacts on the world. To begin with, is the problem
of climate change or what we call global warming and how it s affecting the planet we call home.
Climate change is when you start to notice things around you in the environment changing like when
the winters become much warmer and the summer temperatures hitting record highs. Also, when you
start your television to notice the extreme floods tearing down our cities and then afterwards they don
t see rainfall for weeks which then, leads to the extreme droughts and fires. For instance, we create
pollution and that leads to greenhouse gases which traps in heat in

Curley s Wife Quotes
When reading the novel Of Mice and Men, you may notice that Curley s wife is never given a name. I
think that she doesn t have a name because she is a woman in the 1930s, she doesn t really belong on
the ranch, and she is considered a nobody. Throughout the book, we see examples of how she is
mistreated.
This book takes place around the 1930s, when women didn t have as many rights as they do now.
They were expected to stay in the house and take care of the family. Since Curley and the boss are the
only real family Curley s wife has, she is left a lot of time to herself. Back then, women were often put
down and seen as unimportant. Whenever Curley s wife visits the bunkhouse, the ranch workers are
quick to tell her to leave. At the beginning, Steinbeck portrays her as, what the guys call, a tart. Candy
said, I seen her give Slim the eye...An I seen her give Carlson the eye (Steinbeck 28). This makes the
ranch workers wary of talking to her because of their fear of what Curley would do. Her appearance
does not help the misconceptions the ranch workers have about her. While talking about her, John
Steinbeck writes, She had full, rouged lips and wide spaced eyes, heavily made up. Her fingernails

when she is not around, and they liked it when she wasn t. When the ranch workers found out she was

The Financial Industry And Its Impact On The Canadian Economy
Introduction In this case study, Vancity s CEO, Vrooman, is faced with making the tough decision of
deciding if her organization is in a position to reprice its line of credit offerings, in order to stay afloat
and competitive, and at the same time, not loose the trust of its customers, who also happens to be the

needs in their community gives them a competitive advantage amongst other financial institution. This
case is important as it explains tough decisions that top executives and organizations as a whole, are
often faced with making, in order to stay competitive and profitable. It also discusses the financial
impacts of the recession in the late 2000s on the Canadian economy, particularly the financial industry.
This paper will begin with an introduction to this case, discussing the financial industry, and its impact
on the Canadian economy, also to be accompanied with some background information on the case

decisions that could be taken, and the merits/drawbacks of each decision. At this point, I will elaborate
on what decision I think would be ideal and provide the best outcome of benefitting both the
organization and its customers. Background Information The financial industry in Canada is

The Dark Age As The Golden Age
The Middle Ages were filled with advancements and drawbacks for Europe. Seljuk Turks invaded
Europe tearing it apart and breaking it down, leading society to become weak and scared.
Nevertheless, attempts were made by many to fight against these rough times. The plague was a large
factor in the weakening of Europe, due to the decrease of population that resulted from it. The
misfortunes occurring in this time lead many people to believe that it was a Dark Age, on the contrary
Europe proved to be stable throughout the invasions and hardships making it more of a Golden Age.
Although invasions leading to decrease of trade took place, the era between 500 to 1400 should be
considered as the Golden Age, because of social achievements relating to philosophy, poetry, and
architecture and a strong, organized government. Despite the murderous and treacherous aura of
Europe, social advancements were able to transpire. The medieval time period thrived in the midst of
threatening events. In his book The Medieval Period, Gray C. Boyce stated that even through difficult
hardships, Europe was able to sustain itself (Document 6). Although outside forces restricted Europe
to grow, barriers were overcome and creativity filled this time period. Additionally, Europe was able to
flourish and bring forth many advancements as H.C Davis said (Document 7). Davis claims can be

I Know Who You Are And I Saw What You Did By Lori Field
An enchanted arrangement of wildflowers, beasts and humans intertwined together in a fantasy world.
I Know Who You Are and I Saw What You Did, by Lori Field is a hand drawn piece on paper using an
ancient writing method called silverpoint. Lori s style is a mixture of surrealistic, grotesque and
contemporary pop. Her process consists of hand drawing either with silverpoint or color pencils and
then uses wax to layer the drawings to create one piece like a collage. At first glance this piece
captures the audiences eyes on the two women who are main characters. One woman is in full armor
with her eyes closed while the other woman is floating next to her gazing upon her. The piece
definitely has a surrealistic feel, almost like the audience is looking into the woman s dream especially
since the woman floating has a dress on with the words I cannot sleep written on it. Due to the specific
symbols, objects, and animal imagery there is an intended hidden message intended for the audience
to discover. Created in 2012, I Know Who You Are and I Saw What You Did is a 12 x 12 inch drawing
currently located at the Cumberland Gallery in Nashville, Tennessee. The main character of the piece
is a woman wearing medieval armor like a knight and she has on a headpiece consisting of thorns and
horns of an animal like a deer. Her eyes are closed like she is asleep and this is her dreamworld. This
piece has some elements of Surrealism because of the influence of the dreamlike world and

Simmel Stranger
Georg Simmel s The Stranger refines the sociological use of the word stranger through his unique
elaboration of its meaning and place in the world. Simmel employs the word stranger to label a group
of people who have a certain amount of nearness and remoteness, are objective, and are socially and
economically mobile within a society.
In this essay I will focus on one particular aspect of the stranger; Simmel discusses the stranger s
relationship with society as: despite being inorganically appended to it, the stranger is still an organic
member of the group (Simmel 149). From my interpretation, the term inorganic describes something
diverse and distinct; Simmel s stranger is inorganic in the sense that his position within society is

Therefore, when the entire society is composed of strangers, we can only speak of people whose roots
in America are older or newer (Kennedy 32). In Kennedy s model of the American nation, we cannot
distinguish between members of a society and label them as strangers or non strangers. The beginning
of the American nation consisted of a variety of strangers coming together to form a community that
developed over time. These strangers founded the American nation, and their contribution is
noticeable and lasting. As Kennedy reveals, strangers add up to the strengths and weaknesses of
America (Kennedy 8). Strangers define the American nation; the old stranger founded America, the
current stranger is developing with America, and the new stranger will come and continue to reform
America: the bosom of America is open to receive not only the opulent and respectable stranger, but
the oppressed and persecuted of all nations and religions; whom we shall welcome to a participation
of all our rights and privileges... (Kennedy 51). The fact that all citizens were strangers at some point
insists that America is the product of the stranger and that America stands for the stranger: [a] spirit
that is expressed in the Declaration of Independence that all men are created equal (Kennedy

Humans make up their own perceptions of reality which brings them further from the truth of what
really goes on. Depending on who you are some people are able to see clearer and take life for what it
really is, while others hide behind their own perceptions. Millennial s in particular are constantly
hiding behind their own perceptions to what reality really is, and today that is hurting them. Many
only see what they want to see and hear what they want to hear. In my own life I have gone through
many what students would call traumatizing events . As a child I was made fun of for smiling and

When I look back on those things all I do is laugh and think how stupid, but in elementary, middle,

What Is The Impact Of Bombing On Germany
The technological developments that assisted bombing, the impact of bombing on the German
economy, the impact of bombing on the German civilian morale and also the effects on the German
war effort all help explain why the Allied strategic bombing of Germany during the Second World War
was significant to quite a far extent. Each of the following paragraphs will analyse the impacts of the
Allied strategic bombing on different aspects of Germany and also what factors assisted the Allied
bombing campaign in creating a significant impact on Germany during the Second World War. The
technological developments during the campaign affected the significance of the bombing of Germany
during the Second World War. In 1939 1941, there were less planes, or navigational ... Show more

The attacks on Hamburg were not a turning point of the war as Bomber Command s fortunes had
completely disappeared once they started targeting Berlin, where their loss rates peaked to
unacceptably high levels. Therefore Gee made less of an impact in assisting the Allied strategic
bombing of Germany compared to Window. However the impact on Hamburg caused by Window was
relatively short lived because the Germans countered. On the other hand the long range escort fighters,
disposable fuel tanks and The Thousand Bomber raids had a long lived impact. The P 51 Mustang was
an important aircraft in the war that had an American airframe and a British Rolls Royce Merlin
Engine. Disposable fuel tanks, which increased the Allied fighter s range were loaded onto the P 51
Mustang and by March 1944, the modified Mustang had a 1800 mile armed range and could fly with
the bombers to Berlin and back. Richard Ovary said The long range escort fighter transformed the air
war overnight. Lastly the thousand bomber raid on 30th to 31st May 1942 against Cologne saw the
destruction of a third of the inner zone of Cologne along with the destroying of 20000 houses and the
evacuation of 200000 people.

The Impact Of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence I have read Patrick Marshall s Artificial Intelligence: Can smart machines
replace humans? The article discusses the effect of AI on employment, war and human control, and
whether or not it can simulate human intelligence. It gives a background on how AI started, how the
military uses it, and how it is used in everyday civilian life. Two significant points are stated by the
author. First, AI has yet to be imbued with accurate human like nature. Second, the military has started
using AI and robotics to help reduce the number of human soldiers lost in wars. I believe AI has made
great strides since it was created and development should continue to advance the state of the net.
Although, there are consequences to every good idea. The first signs of AI appeared in the 50s after
Konrad Zuse invented the first programmable computer. At a conference in Dartmouth, scientists
decided to research how they could bring every type of learning into an advanced state so that a
machine can emulate it. The first robotic produced was a mobile robot called Shakey. When a
recession hit in the 70s, funding for AI projects was cut short. In the 90s AI research skyrocketed as
new software was developed and AI became smarter. Despite the military use of AI, there are many
around us in everyday life. Banks use AI to help find fraud credit cards. Security companies are using
it to identify facial features and spot criminal activity. Several car companies now use AI on

The Green River Killer Essay
Forensics has changed the way our criminal system works now. A lot of cases are being solved
because of the development of forensics. Even cold cases are being brought up to the light to be
investigated again and a good percentage of the cases are being solved and criminals are being
brought to justice. The green river killer is one case that really got me intrigued into forensics and I
got mesmerized by the techniques that are being used to catch murderers and other crimes being
committed. The green river killer had an interesting childhood that led him to be a serial killer. He
committed multiple murders on prostitutes and left there families with agony and pain. But advances
in DNA ultimately led to his demise, police officers were able ... Show more content on

This can cause a lot of psychological damage knowing that this isn t common and is highly frown
upon in society to have sexual feelings towards someone in your family especially towards your
mother. As a teenager he tried to commit murder, there was a 6 year old boy playing outside and he
lured him into some bushes where no one could see him and without a cause he stabbed the boy in the
stomach and wiped the blood of the blade of the knife on the little boys shirt. (Montaldo 2011) This
must have been a trial run and an early indicator that this boy was disturbed and in need of some
immediate help. Especially since he had no probable cause to stab the little boy knowing that he is
vulnerable and can t fight back. Ridgway s childhood is far from ordinary he had a lot of
psychological damage and if only his parents would have known they could have brought him to a

was the body of young 16 year old Wendy Lee Coffield and she was strangled to death. (Seattle times

sex with her and kill her. Age was defiantly not a factor; he viewed women as objects

Chromatography Of Food Dyes Lab Report
Chromatography of Food Dye Chem 180 DL3 Abstract: The goal of this experiment was to use
different dyes to determine the Rf value. Chromatography is done to determine the presence of a
mixture in a substance. In this experiment different dyes were used such as McCormick food coloring,
M amp;M s, Kool Aid, and the dyes that came with the lab kit. Experiment and Observation: In this
experiment a 50mL beaker was filled with luke warm water and a pinch of salt water was dissolved in
it and set aside. A line was drawn with pencil 1 cm from the bottom of the paper and then the line was
separated with cross lines 1.5cm apart on two sheets of chromatography paper. The sections on the
first sheet of paper were labeled B1, B2, R3, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the cylinder was removed from the petri dish the top of each solvent line was marked with a

America s Involvement In The Vietnam War
Lyndon B. Johnson inherited the war from Kennedy in 1963 and it was his responsibility to lead
America through the Vietnam war and stop communism, he planned was to escalate the war. The Gulf
of Tonkin resolution was what really involved the US in the war and made them a big part of it. The
alleged attacks of North Vietnam on the USS Maddox angered America and it was a way for Johnson
to organise attacks on North Vietnam. He now had an excuse and his main view on the war was to
escalate it. Although he had a lot of support from US citizens, there were some people protesting
against his approach towards the war later on.
He organised Operation Rolling Thunder which was a series of heavy raids and bombing on North
Vietnam meant to only last ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is one of the main reasons why he began the process of Vietnamization which was to train, equip
and prepare South Vietnamese soldiers to protect and fight for themselves against the North
Vietnamese.
In conclusion, we can say that US policies changed during the presidencies of Johnson and Nixon due
to two major reasons that link to each other the media which transferred raw news from Vietnam to
America and then led to people protesting and standing against the government, reducing the support
the army had and making many people refuse to join the war.
The media put pressure on the government as it made people question what they were doing and it
produced guilt for people, this then led people putting more pressure on the government. At the time
of this, the media had many different methods in letting people know what was happening and
therefore they were able to reach more people. They used pictures, articles and most importantly they
televised what was happening. If the media did not have the right resources to do all of this, US
policies might have not changed as they did because each president would have used as much power
and weapons as they wanted on Vietnam because people would not know the truth of what was
happening as only sugar coated news by the government would have reached

Bob Marley
In a time of political, economic, and social unrest, a new way of protest was beginning to emerge from
Jamaica in the form of reggae music. It was 1963 when a young man from Jamaica by the name of
Robert Nesta Marley, better known as Bob Marley , formed a band called The Wailers, who would
undoubtedly become one of the only reggae bands to rise up from the oppression of the third world
country. The country of Jamaica had just gained independence from the U.K. in 1962, but was
anything but a free nation. Those in power chose to exploit the country s few main exports, primarily
bauxite, a mineral used in the process of manufacturing aluminum. The first ten years of Jamaican
independence saw considerable economic growth, but these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

So the Jamaican sound systems, mobile devices such as vans or musical equipment on wheels, would
be used to host dances, and the deejays would also use their sound systems to inform his listeners on
political happenings. King states that, As one of the few affordable social activities for the poor, the
sound system brought music to places where the voice of the poor could be heard without interference
by local authorities (16). Like most of the world during this time, the black population was not
allowed any political power, and many began to seek ways to resist. One of the methods used as a
means to passively fight back against the imbalance was the Rastafarian religion. The Rastafarian
religion was born early in the twentieth century, but its roots date back as far as the late 1800 s when
slaves felt compelled to revolt against the plantation owners on the belief that God was calling them to
fight for freedom. In 1927, a man named Marcus Garvey brought forth to Jamaicans the basis of the
Rastafarian religion, which was to look to Africa for the crowning of a king. This would be a sign for
Jamaica that freedom is near. From Africana, the Encyclopedia of the African and the African
American Experience, author Roanne Edwards quotes Garvey: Look to Africa for the crowning of a
king to know that your redemption is nigh (Edwards 1592). In 1930 Ras Tafari was crowned emperor
of Ethiopia and baptized with the name Haile Selassie.

Women s Role Of Women In The Middle Ages
During the medieval times, women were not seen as they are today. Although in the world today there
are still those who are full of misogyny, it was much more common and intense during this time
period. Women during the middle ages had specific roles assigned to them in society. These roles
depended on the type of women they were, whether it be a peasant, noble woman, or an evil
temptress. These roles that women have served have shown up in numerous stories from the middle
ages including: Beowulf, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and The Wife s Lament. The hardest life
to live during the middle ages was most likely that of a peasant woman. Many of the roles that these
peasants had go undocumented and are rarely seen in famous literary works of the time. In Women in
the Medieval English Countryside : Gender and Household in Brigstock before the Plague by Judith
M. Bennett, she describes the peasants woman s role as Under a new authority that of their husbands
(100). These peasants, much like the noble women of the time, were to do as their husbands told them.
These women, unlike the nobles, would actually do manual labor work. Their roles were to work in
the house as well as work in the field plowing and gathering crops. In The Wife s Lament the narrator
,the wife, speaks about being banished to live in the forest. This shows the misogynistic views of the
time in comparison to today where no woman would be forced to leave a town and be told to ...Live in

George Armstrong Custer s Death In The Battle Of Little...
The Battle of Little Bighorn, also known as the Battle of Greasy Grass, was not a significant battle
when comparing death count, but it was a big turning point in the course of American History. George
Custer was a widely respected military leader who had rarely lost a battle up until that point. It was a
shock to the white population that an Indian tribe had that much power and could beat such a powerful
army with such advanced military tactics. George Armstrong Custer s arrogance and the already tense
relations with the Sioux Indians were the main factors that ultimately contributed to his death in the
Battle of Little Bighorn.
George Armstrong Custer was born in Ohio on December 5, 1839. He entered the military academy at
West Point in 1857. He was not strong academically, but he showed strong leadership qualities at an
early age. Custer got into the militaristic mindset early in life. He entered the American Civil War
fresh out of West Point and became quite famous as a member of a generation of boy generals known
for their aggressiveness. He reported to the 2nd US Cavalry as 2nd Lieutenant in the battle of the First
Bull Run. Custer briefly served on the staff of Brigadier General Philip ... Show more content on

Racism In Angie Thomas s The Hate U Give
Angie Thomas novel The Hate U Give is the story of a teenage girl facing racism in the world around
her. Starr Carter lives in Garden Heights, a neighborhood filled with gangs, when one of her best
friends Khalil is shot by the police, she is quick to know he had been killed because of the racism that
exists in our world. Throughout the novel, Starr is constantly trying to show the world why Khalil died
in order to get justice for his death. She does not believe he deserved to die or the cop who shot Khalil
deserves to walk free of the crime he committed. Through different characters, the author is able to
convey the message of one should not form opinions on someone or something based on stereotypes.
Throughout the novel, some characters struggle with judging people before they know their past.
Angie Thomas is able to get this across to readers not only through Starr, but also characters such as
her father Maverick, her friends from school, and even Officer Cruise, the officer who killed Khalil.
Stereotypes in the novel are one of the main causes for Khalil s death. The officer had killed Khalil
because he had automatically assumed Khalil was a threat to him. Officer Cruise treated both Khalil
and Starr with disrespect at the time of the arrest because they are African American. When Khalil
began to move in order to ask Starr if she was okay, the Officer assumed he was reaching for a
weapon because he had already formed an opinion about Khalil based on his skin color even

Women s Female Leadership During The Renaissance
The concept of the salon, originating in Italy during the Renaissance, was introduced to France in the
seventeenth century and evolved into a three hundred year old tradition built exclusively on the
strength of feminocentric rule. One of the most fascinating things about the institution of the salon is
that its female leadership flourished during a period of history when women were not permitted to be
involved in activities outside the boundaries of domesticity. According to Wolf, this paradoxical
climate began to emerge during the Renaissance when the Salic law came into effect in fourteenth
century. This Law denied women the right to inherit the family name, fortune or property. She was
also denied the right to receive a public education. Women learned the only way to gain social status
was through marriage, conducting cultural and social functions of the court in their husband s name.
Young girls were raised to believe their primary role was to develop the attributes that would secure
marrying into the right family. The ability to sing, dance, play multiple instruments was a mark of
distinction. Music education especially for women was extremely important to those among the upper
class. Some scholars believe men imposed the study of music on women...to prevent them from
acquiring the kinds of knowledge, hence power, that men possessed. The time devoted to the study of
music developed exceptionally talented women but they were only allowed to play in

Purpose Of The Disability Voting Rights
Purpose of the Disability Voting Rights Paper
This paper argues the disabled communities do not enjoy full voting rights to participate in the
political system. There are several political factors that explain why the concerns of the disabled
communities have largely been ignored or not adequately addressed. The Committee of Seventy is an
organization with strong political influence over the elections held every year in the City of
Philadelphia, PA. The organizational enjoys a great reputation among local politicians, CEOs, and
other socially affluent residents of the city. It is important to acknowledge the disabled communities
have limited voting rights. People with disabilities face stigma and discrimination that may discourage

Need for Strategic Change
The Committee of Seventy has successfully implemented a civic reform strategy in the City of
Philadelphia. The residents of Philadelphia desire equal voting rights. The gerrymander system
controls districts throughout the city. Both Republican and Democratic parties have acknowledged
gerrymandering strategies help them protect districts (Persily, 2007).
The gerrymander system is a primary strategic tool. The strategic planning can help address the
problems created by the gerrymander system that limit voting rights and result in controlled elections
(Byrson, 2010). The disabled communities are often invisible under the gerrymander system because
both political parties focus on race and age, and this is true in the City of Philadelphia as well. The
voter turnout tends to be low among the members of the disabled communities assuming other factors
including the demographics are constant (Schur et al., 2002). The Voting Rights Act Re authorization
in 2006 didn t help much as the voter turnout, whether measured by state or racial group, still declined
(Persily, 2007). The electronic Absentee Ballot forms also discourage political engagement by the
disabled communities. The use of strategic tools by both parties further limits the political
participation by the disabled communities. The research literature has identified several reasons why
people with disabilities may have trouble driving to the

  • 2. Traditional And Modern Family The modern family is a controversial topic that many disagree on. Some think that today s modern family is bad and should be more traditional, with family values of the past, while, on the other hand, some believe that the modern family, full of technology and evolving family values, is a good thing and should be celebrated. These opinions about the modern vs traditional family style are not as important as the four main components of a family. These components are the ability to take the idea of marriage/a relationship serious when considering starting a family, a supportive and beneficial parent child relationship, a financially stable standing, and the ability to allow children to make their own decisions about things like political issues. I feel that if these four parts of a family are not met, then the family will fall apart, which is what we see a lot of in today s age. Whether it be financial situations that drive a couple apart, a hurtful parent child relationship, over sheltering of a child so that they follow their parents beliefs and values without question, or the couple does not take their marriage seriously when considering starting a family, meaning they do not openly discuss all of the above situations, financial or how to raise a child. When considering starting a family, the most important component is being able to take the idea of marriage/a relationship seriously. You are able to openly discuss the other components like financial based topics or how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Gender Wage Gap Between Men And Women You see charts and graphs of different types, shapes and colors used by writers all the time. But have you ever thought of the reason for that or what role they have? Are they a critical piece in the article or do they just sum up information and gather numbers in one place? To engage these questions, I will consider the visual presentation of the gender wage gap between men and women by different journalists. By the time you finish reading this essay, you will learn many facts about the graphs, how they convey quantitative information, and how they differ from the language. Aside form the graph s positives you should be aware of their potential for manipulation and that they are not as reliable and unbiased as they might look. Writers always search for effective means to represent their ideas and convey information to the audience. They aim to be persuasive in their debates and draw a strong connection with the readers to affect them. To approach the gender wage gap issue, some writers use only the language. In the article Fighting The Gender Pay Gap, the author Carl Richard addresses the issue as a personal problem that he discussed with his daughter and his friends. He draws a direct connection with the readers who link that to their personal experiences. Also, Richard, through his words, is encouraging the audience to start taking actions to solve this problem that affects many other women like his daughter. By the advice directed to his daughter, he is sending an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Quotes In Cool Hand Luke Introduction: Nothing can be a really cool hand, once spoken by Luke, is one of the countless quotes outlying Luke s persistent nature (Carroll and Rosenberg 1967). The movie, Cool Hand Luke, directed by Stuart Rosenberg in 1967, is a movie about ultimate sacrifice. Luke, the protagonist of the story, after being sentenced to two years for destruction of municipal property, constantly defied the prison s regulations. He became a leader for the inmates, and ultimately was killed. Luke was a persistent character, and never gave up fighting even when he had nothing. Paragraph 1: Luke can be described as a man that is undoubtfully determined. After being sentenced to two years, it can be immediately seen he does not fit in with the other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was found and brought back both times. The captain describes this, as a failure to communicate, and wanted to break Luke of his mindset on escaping (Carroll Rosenberg 1967). He was punished by having to dig a hole in the yard, fill it back in, and then be beat. Luke eventually breaks and begs to not to beat again, which led the captain to believe he finally sent the message to Luke. Luke even says, Calling it a job don t make it right, boss (Carroll Rosenberg 1967). Here, it appears that Luke has given up for good, and he has succumbed to the prison s ways even though he makes the comment that it is not right. This is not true though, and Luke once again packs his courage to escape again. After he made his third escape by stealing a car, he was fatally shot. Even when he was caught, Luke did not surrender. He walked out, but he never put his hands up to surrender and was shot while once again defying the cops. Dragline put his hands up, and while they both walked out of the building, Luke never once gave the impression that he was surrendering to the prison s system. In all three attempts at escaping he never gave up, and each time he tried harder to get away proving his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Vark Learning Styles VARK Analysis Every one has a mix of learning styles; some people may find that they have a dominant style of learning, with far less use of other styles in different circumstances. There is neither right or wrong style nor your style is fixed, you can develop your less dominant style and make improvement in your dominant ones. Your learning styles have more influence on your learning than you know it, they guide the way you learn. They also change the way you retain information and perceive experiences internally ( Overview of Learning Styles, n.d). Also by visiting the places and doing role play when possible, I can learn more about the topic. The best way for a person to learn depends on the person, of course. It is a well known fact now that people have different learning styles that work best for them. • 6. English Reformation Dbq Essay Among the many religious changes that occurred throughout Europe in the sixteenth century, few were as widely influential as the Reformation. There were three streams of the Reformation: the common class, the educated middle class, and the monarchs and princes. All three streams wanted the church to be fixed and hoped it could combine old ideas and new ones. The Reformation was influenced by many different people, yet the most important was John Wyclif, who stated that the church did not need possession in order to be powerful. Different ideologies came from the influences of Wyclif, and many others. Lutheranism began in the mid 1500 s by Martin Luther, and he developed a doctrine of Justification by Faith where he wrote of how people stay in the church and get to heaven from faith ... Calvinism, run by John Calvin, focused on predestination the idea where God had already picked his people s destinies when they were young and nothing they did would affect these destinies. A third ideology also came into play during the Reformation called Zwinglism. Run by Zwingli, a German, he began a reform of the Swiss city Zurich, and created the Priesthood of True Believers. Following the new ideologies, the English Reformation began during this time period. The most important change during the English reformation began when Queen Elizabeth took the throne back from Mary and turned the church into a Protestant church. During the Protestant Reformation, Anabaptist sects became present in Europe, and they all believed in the Inner light a concept of spiritual revelation. • 7. Utilitarian Theory of Punishment in the Criminal Justice... There is an ongoing problem in our society regarding punishment and responsibility. We, as a society, tend to look away when it comes to how criminals are being punished and maybe we should be paying more attention. Violence seems to be an integral part of our society, some raise their children with violence, we watch it on television, read it in newspapers and books and now we are even playing violent video games. When it comes to the judicial system the majority of citizens do not even know how individuals are being punished or if the punishment is too harsh, not severe enough or if the individual even needs punishment because what they may need is psychiatric help. Behavioral scientist, Karl Menninger, believes that our prisons are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The utilitarian theory of punishment is another approach to the criminal justice system. Richard B. Brandt believes that this type of punishment is frequently found in Great Britain and the United States. He believes that utilitarian s differ in their thoughts as to what is the ideal system would be but the punishment extended should be fair and that the threat of punishment may be more important than the punishment itself. Brandt discusses the difference in the prosecution and defense used to obtain maximum utility and how the punishment should be implemented and how to mitigate the punishment. Brandt also discusses how utilitarian s believe that reform needs to take place in the criminal justice system. What is being proposed begins with reforming the juvenile court system with more psychiatric treatment and programs to assist with crime prevention as well as asking for more social awareness to help these programs. This reform would then be extended to the adult population. After a guilty verdict is rendered, the experts would complete an evaluation and decisions would be made regarding treatment for each individual and a timeline created to establish when such individual could be reintegrated back into society. • 8. Scavengers Narrative When Loki brought the little white fur ball home, he was nervous about how well they would bond. The woman at the shelter said it may take time, but to be patient and everything would be ok. Excited for her arrival, he set up her feeding, sleeping and litter box area, all before he had picked her up from the shelter. Sitting down with the carrier on his bed, he opened the door. The fur ball stayed inside and wouldn t come out. Loki waited patiently. Well, patiently for Loki. After a few minutes, he reached in and pulled her out. Once free of her cage, she immediately ran up his arm, onto his shoulder and underneath the back of his long, black, hair...and stayed there. Trying to reach for her, the kitten s claws gripped his shirt and would not let go. Sighing, he reached for a book and leaned back against the headboard. After a while, he felt her begin to purr. He smiled. The fur ball was a quick study, she mastered her litter box and her food bowls like a champ, and Loki praised her for it. Who s a good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When she finally had, she began making her squishy bed, kneading her tiny paws into the fabric. Mini, Loki said. It wasn t even a chastisement. She looked up at him, and he, at her. It was a standoff. Finally, Mini jumped off the bed, pranced over to him and hopped up on his lap, where she proceeded to crawl up Loki s chest, forcing him to lean back in the chair, then she curled up and fell asleep right under his chin, purring. • 9. The True Language Of Love The True Language of Love When reading early British texts, readers often notice that two main themes are recurring within the stories and poems of the time. These themes are love and religion; both of these were important within the culture. However, the readers may not realize that the language used in describing the two different themes is not different at all. In fact, the language of love and the language of religion are very similar, especially in medieval texts. Two texts that provide an excellent example of this type of language are Marie de France s Lanval and Margery Kempe s The Book of Margery Kempe. Comparing the language used in these works with the biblical book Song of Songs, it is clear that the language used in the texts of the medieval period doubles as both religious and romantic. Song of Songs, or Song of Solomon, is a book of the bible that focuses on Christ s love for his people. Within the book, Christ is portrayed as the bridegroom and Christians as his bride. According to Vivian de Sola Pinto, the book is the nuptial song of King Solomon and his Egyptian Bride, but is also an allusion to the Love Union and Communion between Christ and the church , and even further, Christ and every believing soul (Pinto). Using this explanation, not only is the language in this biblical book different from the other books of the Bible, but also it blends the language of love and the language of religion. I think that she doesn t have a name because she is a woman in the 1930s, she doesn t really belong on the ranch, and she is considered a nobody. Throughout the book, we see examples of how she is mistreated. This book takes place around the 1930s, when women didn t have as many rights as they do now. They were expected to stay in the house and take care of the family. Since Curley and the boss are the only real family Curley s wife has, she is left a lot of time to herself. Back then, women were often put down and seen as unimportant. Whenever Curley s wife visits the bunkhouse, the ranch workers are quick to tell her to leave. At the beginning, Steinbeck portrays her as, what the guys call, a tart. Candy said, I seen her give Slim the eye...An I seen her give Carlson the eye (Steinbeck 28). This makes the ranch workers wary of talking to her because of their fear of what Curley would do. Her appearance does not help the misconceptions the ranch workers have about her. I Know Who You Are and I Saw What You Did, by Lori Field is a hand drawn piece on paper using an ancient writing method called silverpoint. Lori s style is a mixture of surrealistic, grotesque and contemporary pop. Her process consists of hand drawing either with silverpoint or color pencils and then uses wax to layer the drawings to create one piece like a collage. At first glance this piece captures the audiences eyes on the two women who are main characters. One woman is in full armor with her eyes closed while the other woman is floating next to her gazing upon her. The piece definitely has a surrealistic feel, almost like the audience is looking into the woman s dream especially since the woman floating has a dress on with the words I cannot sleep written on it. Due to the specific symbols, objects, and animal imagery there is an intended hidden message intended for the audience to discover. Created in 2012, I Know Who You Are and I Saw What You Did is a 12 x 12 inch drawing currently located at the Cumberland Gallery in Nashville, Tennessee. In this essay I will focus on one particular aspect of the stranger; Simmel discusses the stranger s relationship with society as: despite being inorganically appended to it, the stranger is still an organic member of the group (Simmel 149). As a child I was made fun of for smiling and being happy all the time. I was bullied for the way I acted and called ugly on multiple occasions. The article discusses the effect of AI on employment, war and human control, and whether or not it can simulate human intelligence. It gives a background on how AI started, how the military uses it, and how it is used in everyday civilian life. Two significant points are stated by the author. First, AI has yet to be imbued with accurate human like nature. Second, the military has started using AI and robotics to help reduce the number of human soldiers lost in wars. I believe AI has made great strides since it was created and development should continue to advance the state of the net. Although, there are consequences to every good idea. The first signs of AI appeared in the 50s after Konrad Zuse invented the first programmable computer. At a conference in Dartmouth, scientists decided to research how they could bring every type of learning into an advanced state so that a machine can emulate it. The first robotic produced was a mobile robot called Shakey. When a recession hit in the 70s, funding for AI projects was cut short. In the 90s AI research skyrocketed as new software was developed and AI became smarter. Despite the military use of AI, there are many around us in everyday life. • 28. Women s Role Of Women In The Middle Ages During the medieval times, women were not seen as they are today. Although in the world today there are still those who are full of misogyny, it was much more common and intense during this time period. Women during the middle ages had specific roles assigned to them in society. These roles depended on the type of women they were, whether it be a peasant, noble woman, or an evil temptress. These roles that women have served have shown up in numerous stories from the middle ages including: Beowulf, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and The Wife s Lament. The hardest life to live during the middle ages was most likely that of a peasant woman. Many of the roles that these peasants had go undocumented and are rarely seen in famous literary works of the time. In Women in the Medieval English Countryside : Gender and Household in Brigstock before the Plague by Judith M. Bennett, she describes the peasants woman s role as Under a new authority that of their husbands (100). These peasants, much like the noble women of the time, were to do as their husbands told them. These women, unlike the nobles, would actually do manual labor work. Their roles were to work in the house as well as work in the field plowing and gathering crops. In The Wife s Lament the narrator ,the wife, speaks about being banished to live in the forest. • 33. Women s Female Leadership During The Renaissance The concept of the salon, originating in Italy during the Renaissance, was introduced to France in the seventeenth century and evolved into a three hundred year old tradition built exclusively on the strength of feminocentric rule. One of the most fascinating things about the institution of the salon is that its female leadership flourished during a period of history when women were not permitted to be involved in activities outside the boundaries of domesticity. According to Wolf, this paradoxical climate began to emerge during the Renaissance when the Salic law came into effect in fourteenth century. This Law denied women the right to inherit the family name, fortune or property. She was also denied the right to receive a public education. Women learned the only way to gain social status was through marriage, conducting cultural and social functions of the court in their husband s name. Young girls were raised to believe their primary role was to develop the attributes that would secure marrying into the right family. The ability to sing, dance, play multiple instruments was a mark of distinction. Music education especially for women was extremely important to those among the upper class. Some scholars believe men imposed the study of music on women...to prevent them from acquiring the kinds of knowledge, hence power, that men possessed. The time devoted to the study of music developed exceptionally talented women but they were only allowed to play in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Purpose Of The Disability Voting Rights Purpose of the Disability Voting Rights Paper This paper argues the disabled communities do not enjoy full voting rights to participate in the political system. There are several political factors that explain why the concerns of the disabled communities have largely been ignored or not adequately addressed. The Committee of Seventy is an organization with strong political influence over the elections held every year in the City of Philadelphia, PA. The organizational enjoys a great reputation among local politicians, CEOs, and other socially affluent residents of the city. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Need for Strategic Change The Committee of Seventy has successfully implemented a civic reform strategy in the City of Philadelphia. The residents of Philadelphia desire equal voting rights. The gerrymander system controls districts throughout the city. Both Republican and Democratic parties have acknowledged gerrymandering strategies help them protect districts (Persily, 2007). The gerrymander system is a primary strategic tool. The strategic planning can help address the problems created by the gerrymander system that limit voting rights and result in controlled elections (Byrson, 2010). The disabled communities are often invisible under the gerrymander system because both political parties focus on race and age, and this is true in the City of Philadelphia as well. The voter turnout tends to be low among the members of the disabled communities assuming other factors including the demographics are constant (Schur et al., 2002). The Voting Rights Act Re authorization in 2006 didn t help much as the voter turnout, whether measured by state or racial group, still declined (Persily, 2007). The electronic Absentee Ballot forms also discourage political engagement by the disabled communities. The use of strategic tools by both parties further limits the political participation by the disabled communities. The research literature has identified several reasons why people with disabilities may have trouble driving to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
