Examples Of Passion In A Midsummer Night s Dream
Throughout history, passion has never been a stranger to the human race, or to any fictional race
for that matter. Be it as a whole for ultimate survival and future progress or as an individual for
one s own interests and hobbies, passion is the driving force behind us all. Though fictional,
examples of passion can be found within the characters in William Shakespeare s play, A
Midsummer Night s Dream. His marvelous writing has allowed for three excellent exemplifications
of passion. These three examples would be love, revenge, and mischief displayed by the characters
Hermia, Oberon, and Robin Goodfellow, respectively.
Hermia is the daughter of a respected nobleman in ancient Athens, Greece. She is a beautiful young
woman in love with a young

Discourse Markers
The Use of Discourse Markers
So um, I mean yeah I was wondering if like, you had any job openings for this summer? This was
the way a potential employee approached my dad, asking if he had a position for them to work
this summer. Filler words such as um and like are used very commonly throughout conversations
between individuals in this day and age, many individuals not even realizing they are using them.
But why do we use discourse markers? And do they make people seem unprofessional or
uneducated to potential employers? One view of the use of discourse markers comes from Jean
E. Fox Tree, a cognitive psychologist who works at The University of California Santa Cruz. Her
works specialize in the use of discourse markers and enquoting ... Show more content on

The women also typically thought they used less filler words than the men. This was surprising,
as it was not expected that there would be a difference in how many filler words they thought
they used. While this data may not be representative for men and women of all ages, it does give a
good idea of how college students differ using discourse markers.
In the second part of my experiment, the participants were told the experiment was actually
about the use of filler words, and then they were asked to answer the question Can you describe
the moment you said goodbye to your parents before they left you at college? . When the
participants concentrated on not using discourse makers, the number of times they used them
went down drastically. Two out of the three women and all three men told the whole story
without using a single filler word or discourse marker. But while they were not using these words,
there were awkward silences in which the participant would think about what to say next. This
was very interesting, as it may explain another reason why we use discourse markers and filler
words. We want to avoid these awkward silences in which neither person is saying anything, so we
use these words and phrases to cease the

Bitter And Sweet American Identity
In the book Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, the Author, Jamie Ford, illustrates American
identity as something that comes in several different spectrums, but encompassing the same basic
ideas that shaped our country in the first place through characters such as Mr.Okabe and Mr.Lee.
Our country was based off of standing up and fighting for what we believe in. This is exactly
what both Mr.Lee and Mr.Okabe do. Mr.Lee stays loyal to what he thinks is right even when not
everyone in his surrounding approves and Mr.Okabe fights for inequality and justice by obeying the
laws placed by the government of the United Statesof America. Both these men, show that being an
American doesn t have certain boundaries, that it comes in multiple forms,... Show more content on

He wanted us to see how different each American is. We all follow the guidelines placed upon by
the fathers of our nation, but we each adapt it in our own unique ways. From day one, the United
States has always been known for its freedom and democracy and when the power is literally
placed in the hands of those who it directly effects, by no means does this limit our people but
pushes us to explore and question the unknown of the nation we control. Even though our
society can be broken down into different ethnicities, as a whole we are a culture of our own. A
very unique blend of all our values, dedication, hard work, and perseverance. This is what Ford
wanted to illustrate Americanism as. Even though we all come from something different, we all
have the pursuit of happiness. All of this combined is why we call ourselves American and this is
what makes up the true American identity which we all can relate to. Like Theodore Roosevelt
once said, Americanism is a question of principle, of idealism, of character. It is not a matter of
birthplace, or creed, or line of

Today it is in our best interest to encourage everyone s potential by dedicating ourselves to the
continual improvement of our own abilities and those of the people with whom we work and live.
Total Quality is, essentially, a win win approach which works to everyone s ultimate advantage.
According to Deming, no human being should ever evaluate another human being. Therefore, TQM
emphasizes self improvement process. In addition, this principle also laminates to the focusing on
students strengths, individual learning styles, and different types of intelligences. A System of
Ongoing Process The third pillar of TQM as applied in education is the recognition of the
organization as a system and the work done within the organization must be seen as an ongoing
process. The primary implication of this principle is that individual students and teachers are less to
blame for failure than the system in which they work. Quality speaks to working on the system,
which must be examined to identify and eliminate the flawed processes that allow its participants to
fail. Since systems are made in the quality of those processes largely determine the quality of the
resulting product. In the new paradigm of learning , continual improvement of learning outcomes
replaces the outdated teach and test mode. Leadership The fourth TQM principle applied to
education is that the success of TQM is the responsibility of top management. The school teachers

Freshman Seminar
It started out as required community service. Fifty hours of required community service for four
years. The odd times I helped out in my school s pre K led to an opportunity to volunteer in the
after school program for kids every weekday, and that became my plan for almost every day of my
high school career. In my first year of high school, I took a mandatory course called Freshman
Seminar. Truthfully, I don t remember much of it except for one moment sometime in December.
That day, my teacher told the class about a mom of five kids who attended our school and had
suddenly died from an aneurysm. My school is small, but I didn t recognize the name. I thought
this news was sad but didn t consider dwelling on it. In the next few days of the

The Importance Of Bias In Ken Macleod
Few contemporary authors have had as profound an effect on their genre, society, political
debate, or literature in general as Robert Heinlein. Science fiction novelist Ken Macleod suggests
that the world was having a dialogue with Heinlein, unfortunately, one of the unintentional
ramifications of dialogue is misunderstanding, one cause of this is reader bias (Macleod et al.
231). Bias is most corrosive to readers understanding when brought to their initial reading,
consequently, they should avoid it for at least three reasons; first, it causes a work or author to be
regarded in many contradicting ways; second, it creates an atmosphere in which faulty arguments
are made; and third, it results in significant elements of the story being ignored. One caveat,
readers should not construe this in such a way as to imply that the arguments presented here are
merely about the book itself, so much as being about the overall scope of it in relation to Heinlein
and the bias levied for or against the book and him. Of additional consideration is the impact those
biases had on the overall message as well as the meaning of the work itself and to further
extrapolate this into how bias affects other works. It is important to recognize that in this context,
bias is any tendency to judge something either more or less favorably based on preexisting notions
rather than upon the supporting data. It is equally important to understand that the human mind
looks for patterns, the term for this

Rockefeller And Rockefeller In The Gilded Age
Throughout the Gilded age, men like John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, and John Pierpont
Morgan shaped America during the early parts of the 20th century to the present. All three of these
men became the top owner of each of their companies during there lifetimes. Rockefeller became
the first billionaire in American history through his company Standard Oil and owned ninety
percent of the world s oil. Carnegie became a wealthy businessman through steel and J.P. Morgan
succeeded through banking. Of these three men, Rockefeller had the most impact on the American
people not only through Standard Oil, but his philanthropically work. Rockefeller turned a small oil

Rockefeller s life before business shaped him into the businessman he became. John D.
Rockefeller was born on July 8th, 1839 in New York. Rockefeller s father went around the states
scamming people into buying what they thought was the cure for cancer. Rockefeller knew
what it was like to move around the country. He first lived in multiple locations in New York,
and finally ended up in Ohio where his life would change forever. At the age of 24, Rockefeller
and his neighbor Maurice Clark, both put up two thousand dollars and entered the oil refinery
business. The two men, Rockefeller and Clark started Standard Oil in Cleveland, Ohio, and by
1872, the two men had owned all of the oil refineries around Cleveland. By 1878, Standard Oil
owned about ninety percent of oil in the United States through horizontal integration. Horizontal
integration is dominating a particular phase of the production process in order to monopolize a
market. Through horizontal integration, Rockefeller was able to control as many oil refineries
as he wanted and could monopolize. By monopolizing, Rockefeller did not have to worry about
competition, and with Henry Ford s Model T car, oil was at a high demand to power cars.
Rockefeller was not just a businessman but a family man as well. Rockefeller was married for fifty

The Four Roles Of Mentoring And Mentoring In The Odyssey
The origin of the term mentor dates back to the near end of 18th century BC, when the Greek
epic poem Odyssey, written by Homer, is believed to have been composed. As the main character,
Odysseus, embarks in a 20 year long journey, he asks his friend, Mentor, to guide his son during
his absence. Mentor accepts it, and acts as a father figure, teacher, role model, leader, and friend to
Telemachus (Online Etymology Dictionary).
Modern interpretations of mentoring pinpoint four distinct roles which mentors are expected to
play: role modeling, sponsorship, coaching, and counseling the mentee. These many roles are
played by the mentor so the mentee is able to accomplish personal and professional growth. These
mentoring roles are focused on end ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus they search for different ways of carrying out their activities successfully. Also organizations
must consider a range of factors that meet stakeholder s expectations since no organization exists
without their cooperation.
Meyer and Herscovitch (2001) argue that commitment is an energy that attracts an individual to
behave in accordance to the importance of a given task. Additionally, they claim that varying levels
of dedication result in different behaviors. Thus, it can be said that commitment also has the
potential to affect employees performance and loyalty to the organizations (Schminke 2011).
Although there are many different concepts of the connection between personal and organizational
values, Kristof (as cited in Finegan 2010) has defined it as:
The compatibility between people and organizations that occurs when: (a) at least one entity
provides what the other needs, or (b) they share similar fundamental characteristics, or (c) both (p.
5).
Therefore, the nature and extent of the relationship between organization and stakeholder, and also
its dynamics must be considered in mentoring programs (Pettinger

I Have Pretty Serious Concerns About Donald Trump
Just like on television, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump dominated the discussion
among a handful of voters scattered around Wayne County Tuesday.
All said this election was an important one and a big one which could change the direction the
country is headed and change how elections are done in the future.
For some, like Jennifer Gunnoe, who lives overseas in Tbilisi, Georgia, Trump was among the
motivating factors in getting out to vote.
I have pretty serious concerns about Donald Trump, Gunnoe said. I want my candidate to win, but
another major motivating factor is the state of our country if Donald Trump is elected.
Gunnoe and her family are back in the United States for some rest and relaxation, and she wanted
to cast her vote for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. She cast a provisional ballot at the Wayne
County Board of Elections.
Eleanor Tylka went to the parish hall at St. Mary Catholic Church to vote, which she feels is an
obligation. There was quite a bit to vote on, a little bit more than usual, she said.
I think there is a candidate who will help this country, Tylka said. She is supporting Ohio Gov. John
Kasich for president. She, too, is concerned about the one who would destroy the country. She
would not say who, but she did say, You can figure that out.
This election is going to tell how our country is going to go, said David Calvert, Smithville, who
voted at Smithville United Methodist Church. I think Trump is going to take us

Comparing Eros And Bridges
Eros, the god of love in Greek mythology, has been portrayed similarly by people throughout
time, such as Robert Bridges and Anne Stevenson. Both depictions of Eros show the god to be
surprisingly worn down, seen by the shocked responses of the characters, while Bridges concept
is more godlike than Stevenson s depiction, seen in the use of rhyme schemes and Stevenson s
use of ordinary dialogue. Both writers use the shocked responses of their characters to present
the idea that Eros is worn out and ugly. Bridges starts his poem with a question showing the
initial shock at the sight of Eros face. The narrator asks why Eros has nothing in [his] face which
proves that this character expected Eros to be lively and beautiful instead of what he is seeing. By
contrasting the expectation of beauty with the reality of ugliness, Bridges gets across Eros current
state of wear. Then, Bridges utilizes a list of metaphors that compare him to a paragon of all that is
lovely, such as the idol of the human race and the tyrant of the human heart. By juxtaposing these
metaphors with the initial shock of his sight, Bridges... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By having the dialogue between the character and Eros, Stevenson has already humanized Eros
in that he will even talk to humans. This is a very simplistic addition to the poem, yet it becomes
more important when contrasted with Bridges concept of Eros which never speaks or interacts
with the character; he is too godlike and unreachable to do that. Eros also says he is a slave and
the gods are the archetypes that you create, giving even more power to the humans. Here Eros is
admitting that he has no power and he may deserve ridicule, even though it may not be his fault.
The dialogue proves that Stevenson s Eros is worthy of mockery due to his human like faults, but
is also very tragic because they aren t his

Thank You For Arguing Summary
In section 4 of Thank You For Arguing by Jay Heinrichs, Heinrichs starts out by explaining Cicero s
five canons of persuasion that include: invention, arrangement, style, memory, and delivery.
Invention is the start of the persuasion and the thought of what is wanted to be accomplished. Then,
the issue itself needs to be figured out and resolved. Finally, the person needs to think about the
audience and what their values are. That will get an individual a start on the art of persuasion.
Arrangement is how a person is going to arrange an argument so the persuasion is the most
impactful. Arrangement comes down to this rule of thumb Ethos first. Then logos. Then pathos.
(283). Arrangement follows an outline that can be used starting with introduction,... Show more

Also, refutation is developed to win the argument and completely smash your opponents facts
and argument. At the end, Heinrichs explains the conclusion where the individual states their
best points from the argument. Style is how a person expresses their thoughts and words. Proper
language is one of the styles which are words that suit the occasion and my audience (287).
Heinrichs also explains the style of clarity, which is speaking to make the words obvious and
straight facts. Also, Memory is used to create an image in the audience s minds to make them
feel and imagine what the individual is talking about to persuade the audience more impactfully.
Finally, the fifth canon of persuasion is delivery and how the person uses body language, along
with your voice, rhythms, and breathing (290). Voice is key in delivery especially in the volume
of the voice and how the audience emphasises the tone of the speaker. Towards the end of the
novel, Heinrichs reiterates on a few keywords including: goals, ethos, pathos, logos, and kairos.
Heinrichs also states examples of situations when these tools are needed. An example is when a
person wants their book club to read a

What Is Tony A Hero
Tony Ede, a volunteer, has experienced the happiness that people get from the volunteering. From
helping people through hard times as a pastor, saving lives as a volunteer EMT, and helping the
homeless, Tony is a real hero to people in Delaware County. Growing up Tony had many positive
influences as a child. One of the heavier influences was his pastor. He believes that what makes a
herois what examples people have while growing up. His pastor was very engaging with the
people at the church. His pastor would call on people to answer questions during the service.
One week his pastor had to go tend to some family issues. The pastor asked Tony if he could lead
the service while he was gone. Tony said yes and lead the sermon. Doing this made him realize
that being a pastor was fun and he decided to become one. He attended a Lutheran College near

Effects Of The Oil Spill On The Gulf Of Mexico
Many people wonder what actually happens to the animals when the oil spill happens. This oil
spill happened five years ago and nearly 5 barrels of oil was spilt into the Gulf of Mexico. The oil
spill was caused from an explosion through the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig about 40 miles off
the coast of Louisiana. The main effect from this oil spillwas the losses of the animals. Causing
many to almost go extinct. As a result from the oil spill the earth has had losses from pollution, the
cost, and the damage of people.

A known species of birds brown pelican, white pelican, and laughing gulls were found to be

gulf to Minnesota to breed were producing eggs that contained discernible amounts of
compounds that were traceable to the BP spill. Eggs containing traces of contaminants were
found in Iowa and Illinois as well ( Deepwater Horizon oil spill of 2010 ). Animals that were
found alive in the wake of the spill were transported to rehabilitation centres and, after being
cleaned and medically evaluated, were released into oil free areas. Concerns about the offspring
of sea turtles that nested on the gulf coasts of Alabama and Florida led wildlife officials to dig up
thousands of eggs and hatch them in a warehouse for later release on the Atlantic coast. By late 2012
some 1,700 turtles had been found dead. A long term satellite tracking study released in May
2013 showed that the endangered Kemp s ridley sea turtle was likely severely affected, as its
preferred foraging territory was within the area damaged by the spill. It was estimated that up to
65,000 imperiled turtles had died during 2010 alone, mostly as a result of oil contamination. It was
also estimated that some 300,000 turtles, some of which were originally from breeding populations
in other parts of the world, were in the region of the spill when it occurred, leading scientists to

Ethnic Conflicts in Nigeria
The military elites made the situation even worse by staging coups and making a mockery of
democracy in Nigeria. The military era was marked by corruption, ineptitude and confusion. It
drove Nigeria into many problems including economic problems, poverty, and ethno religious
conflicts until the 1990s. The military continued intervening because they believed the civilian
leaders were inept and indecisive.
Ethnic conflicts continued to escalate through the democratic transition in Nigeria, as various ethnic
groups demanded political restructuring. The federal structure has developed deep cracks and
demands urgent action to fix it. What is most worrisome in Nigeria is the religious dimension of
ethnic conflict and competition for power and oil wealth. The numerous ethno religious conflicts
that the northern cities of Kaduna, Kano, Jos and Zamfara have witnessed, came about from the
introduction of Muslim Sharia courts, in addition to the South s demands for autonomy. The
continuing conflict is a sign Nigeria s lack of effective mechanisms to manage ethnic conflicts.
The intense ethnic conflicts that rocked Nigeria and South Africa have pushed them to develop
constitutionally backed institutions for conflict management. In South Africa, the state has
prevented further conflicts by developing multiple democratic approaches to create a foundation for
peace and security. The new constitutioncrafted an impressive document aimed to heal the wounds

their causes such as environmental effects, population, technology and the way people think. One
of the first points Al Goremakes in his speech is that evidence of global warming can be seen
everywhere. He says if you look at glaciers around the world, you see that, many are melting
away. He then provides facts to show possible effects that could happen in the future. Al Gore
explains that ninety five percent of fresh water is locked up as ice in the Antarctic. In his speech
he continues to explain that if the world continues to warm up, the ice will continue to melt
causing the sea level to rise drastically, which could permanently flood some coastal cities. He
then warns that glaciers reflect most of the sun energy like a big mirror. If the glaciers continue to
melt the sun s energy wouldn t bounce back and will cause more evaporation and eventually

Trench warfare, is the military discipline and strategy of digging and barricading a large system
of trenches from which an army may fight while remaining somewhat protected. As one army
entrenched it s self so would the other, after both opposing armies had entrenched themselves
they would attempt to circle around each other to out flank each other; the ultimate goal being
to defend one s own trench, while trying to take the enemy s. This method of defensive battle
often resulted in long stalemates, in which many soldiers were killed. Trench warfare also
results in the creation of a No Man s Land , or the space between two opposing militaries
trenches. This area was often striped barren of any plant life, due to the high amounts of gun and
artillery fire between both opposing armies. One example of trench warfare during WWI can be
found at the battle of the Marne in the September of 1914. Germany, following the Schlieffen
Plan, attempted to march on Paris. However, after entering French territory, the French pushed
back the Germans, who came under heavy Allied artillery fire (11). The Germans were forced to
dig in and entrench themselves, as a means of protection (11). It was because of the constant Allied
bombardment that the Germans were forced to resort to the tactic of trench warfare. The Germans
dug trenches by hand and set up barricades along the Aisne River, resulting in the first defensive
tactics of the war (11). Another prime example of trench warfare is the

Uncertainty In Law
The ethical consideration of this article would be the harm that could arise from not changing the
laws. Business disruption and long term planning are the two problems which arise as a result of
changing laws. Uncertainty in a new law can result in extended periods of work. Prosperity is
reduced by the intervening period in which uncertainty is confronted. Certainty is what businessand

Having Effective Policies In Place Is Important When Dealing
Having effective policies in place is important when dealing with the management of a business
in order to set guidelines for the people involved in the business, so they how it works and what
is expected of them in order for the business to function effectively. If no policies are found
within a business, it will be in trouble when a problem arises and there is not a base or rules to
follow. Also, policies help explain what is important for the business and what it enforces and
protects. For that reason, I decided to implement some important policies in Escape Restaurant and

Leadership And Effective Leadership For Learning
Schools must meet the challenges of a changing educational climate and effective leadership is
crucial in helping to guide the whole school community through the potentially treacherous waters
of change. This assignment will delve into the complexity of leadership and will emphasize that
whilst leaders can attempt to create conditions to help schools improve, they are not solely
responsible for the outcome of the education process. Fullan (2001) posits that effective school
leadershiphas the ability to manage educational change by building strong relationships and
establishing a moral purpose. Therefore, the school leader has the orchestral role of subtly creating
the conditions necessary for pupils and staff to thrive. This assignment will focus primarily on three
of the preconditions for effective Leadership for Learning, mentioned with the assignment title: the
role of shared leadership, explicit conversations and the creation of settings, mindsets, and strategies
conducive to learning. The writer feels, that effective leaders can transform the idea of mutual
accountability into moral accountability . Therefore this section can be interwoven within each of
these three strands of Leadership for Learning mentioned; in a sense mutual or moral accountability
could be interpreted as a by product of effective leadership.

Theme Of Isolation In Frankenstein
The film opens on the main character Victor Van Dort, the son of recently wealthy aristocrats,
being forced to Victoria, daughter to a family of even wealthier aristocrats. (Russell) The Van
Dorts are looking to raise their status in society through the marriage to the aristocrats, and the
Everglots are hoping to further bury their secret bankruptcy and get their hands on the money
they, wrongly, assume Victor s family has. At the very beginning, Victor is shown to be a very
reserved, shy character when he is shown alone in his room drawing a butterfly while his
parents sing excitedly about the upcoming wedding. This also emphasizes the drastic differing
opinions about the wedding, and how Victor obviously dreads it. This introduces the classic
character of the old foolish woman through Victor s mother and gives the audience a silent look
into the character of Victor. He is isolated at the beginning by his own will. (Drouillard). Isolated
protagonists are used often in Gothic fiction as seen in another Victor, this one Frankenstein,
who hides himself away to focus on work. Before the wedding, it s very obvious that Victor is
nervous, and the parents are just as worried that he will not perform correctly at the ceremony. As
he rehearses in the woods, Victor manages to properly say his vows, puts the wedding ring on a
hand like branch, and everything goes smoothly. Of course, in a fantasy, nothing truly goes as
planned and the branch like hand is revealed to be a real hand.

How To Pulverize DNA In Criminal Investigation
Introduction
There are many ways to investigate a crime in order to find justice. Main ways embrace the sub
disciplines of forensic anthropology, forensic botany, forensic entomology, forensic odontology and
various DNA or protein based techniques. This investigation is directed at DNA based techniques.
DNA Relation
DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, contains all the hereditary data around a human being. It s the
directions for the body s whole hereditary cosmetics. DNA is one of a kind to every distinct
individual. A man has the same DNA all through his whole body, and it s situated in each cell.
Cells are the fundamental building squares of all people ( Criminal Law Lawyers.com, n.d.) . This
can be used by forensic scientist to essentially then determine if DNA samples such as mouth cells,

For this situation, DNA from kiwis will be extracted to copy human DNA.
Actinidia deliciosa, often known as the kiwifruit is a hexaploid species with 6X= chromosomes.
The considerable greater part of Actinidia species are diploid, with 2X=58 chromosomes (http:/
/www.actahort.org/books/297/297_5.htm). Hence why kiwi is a great fruit to investigate with. It
also yields a reasonable amount of DNA. This makes it easier to make observations on the DNA
extracted from the kiwi and make judgments on what impacts different chemicals had on it.
The DNA is stored where the nuclei is, therefore the kiwi is placed in a ziplock bag and is
smashed in order to break open these cells and reveal the DNA. The atomic films must be opened
up with a specific end goal to discharge the DNA, in this way DNA extraction arrangement is
utilized. DNA is insoluble in alcohol, so it precipitates (http://www.actahort.org/books/297

Feasibility And Merit Criteria For Our Recycling Program
The facility would contain an office area for the Sustainability Supervisor, a paid employee of
Mercer University who would be responsible for the recycling and sustainability efforts at Mercer
University. They would oversee interns responsible for maintaining and updating the website as
well as student workers who would sort recyclable materials. It would be outfitted with three
computers, office furniture, and a solar compactor. Collected recyclables would be taken to that
facility to be sorted, compacted and housed. With the creation of a sustainabilityoffice, we would
be able to increase the amount of recyclable waste that could be stored on campus and simply take
the material to Atlanta, directly, after it was capable of filling the truck. This would decrease the
amount of trips taken downtown to the Macon recyclingcenter and increase Mercer s independence
in the sustainability movement.

Howard Hughes Impact On Aviation
Howard Hughes has had an outstanding impact on aviation s history. Next to his strange
paranoia and wealth from countless movies, he had a lifelong passion for aviation! Although
there was a film produced about his life, there is a lot that the world doesn t know about Mr.
Hughes. Howard Hughes was born on December 24, 1905 in Humble, Texas to Allene and
Howard R. Hughes Sr. He had an early fascination for mechanics around age 10. By 12, he had
built his own motorcycle. I believe that his fascination began with his father s tool company that
was built in 1909. His father has patented rotary oil drilling equipment that allowed miners to dig
in areas that were once inaccessible. His father s company was passed down to Howard when...

for his movies, his first love was aviation (Simonsen, 2005). During and after the filming of his
movies, his passion for aviation had exploded! In 1928 he received his pilot license. In 1932,
Howard started Hughes Aircraft Company, which was part of his father s previously known
business, Hughes Tool Company. It was originally developed to turn a military aircraft into a
racer, but it eventually developed aviation inventions (Lerner, 2004). The first plane that Hughes
Aircraft Company invented was built in 1935. The name of which is the H1, also known as the

feet. Howard was the first man to fly the H1 on September 13, 1925. This beast of an airplane set

transcontinental speed record of 7 hours, 28 minutes, and 25 seconds (Writer, 2016). Before doing

At this point, the Kodak 35 I had received from my father as a gift during my eighth birthday was

English As A Second Or Foreign Language Essay
As the world s economy globalizes, English becomes the first priority language among the foreign
languages in most non English speaking countries, including China. In China, there is a boost of
English learning and teaching (Sun, 2013). More and more Chinese people learn English as a
second or foreign language. However, according to a survey of China s language situation that was
conducted in 2006, only 1.8% of English learners in China claimed to be able to act as interpreters
on formal occasions, 3.53% to converse quite fluently, 15.61% to conduct daily conversations (Wei
Su, 2012). This indicated that only a few English learners in China can speak English fluently and
that many English learners do not have the ability to engage in daily interactions. The education in
China is exam oriented, but most of the tests emphasize testing students mastery of the reading and
language forms while overlooking assessing students speaking abilities (Wei, 2012). And teachers
tend to give students practices of the knowledge that are to be tested in the exams. Therefore, many
English teachers in China tend to ignore English speaking and they give few opportunities for their
students to practice their speaking abilities (Wang, 2014). In China, English language teaching still
focuses heavily on language knowledge, not language skills, with the former being defined in terms
of grammar and vocabulary and being taught predominantly in the mother tongue and through

Women And Leadership
Title:
Women and leadership female style or male style?
The Pitch:
The debate about the difference in leadership style of women and men continues to attract attention
since women make strides into leadership position dominated mainly by men. Men have long been
holding these leadership roles and have defined styles accepted by people. Therefore, it is not
surprising that women are usual the focus in terms of the discussion on gender difference in
leadership styles. There seems to be great disagreement about the behaviour of women and men
actually performing such roles (Eagly, 2001). This disagreement on this focus can be divided into
two groups. One is the no difference camp, who commonly agreed that there are few differenced
in the leadership style of female and male leaders. The other is the gender stereotypic camp who
believed the existence of crucial differences in the leadership style between both (Alvesson, 2009).
Leadership style is usually viewed as relatively stable patterns of behavior that are represented by
leaders. In the circumstance of leadership, agentic and communal features seem especially relevant.
For example, agentic features such as independent, dominant and competitive are more attached to
men than to women. While communal features such as helpful, kind, gentle, sympathetic and
personal sensitive are strongly occupied by women than men (Eagly, 2003). In addition, according
to Eagly and Johannesen Schmidt (2001), the difference between agentic and

Monetary Policy During The Great Depression Essay example
Monetary Policy During The Great Depression
One of the most important aspects of the Great Depression that stands out in economists minds is
the surge of bank panics and failures during the depression s onset (1930 1933). However, an
institution created with the intention of preventing such a string of disasters failed to fulfill its
obligation as a lender of last resort. This is the Fed, and its failure to prevent the early bank panics
of the Great Depression is a very interesting economic issue. So why did the Fed fail to fulfill its
duty? The reason for the Fed s actions (or lack thereof) was a combination of the strict elitist
leadership in the Fed and the results of adaptive expectations on immature monetary policy. ... Show

Later it was determined that bank failures were a problem of bank management which was not the
systems responsibility (Friedman 358). This is the first example of the Fed s apathetic and elitist
attitude; this attitude prevented them from seeing that bank panics are contagious. If the public
looses confidence in the system because it knows the Fed will not help them, this will only
cause more runs on banks. The truth is that the Fed was every bit as responsible for the bank
panics as poor bank management was. The Fed did not want to admit to this, and so further
separated itself by declaring that non member banks were not its problem either (Friedman 358).
From 1921 to 1930 most failed banks were non members. The Fed felt no responsibility for these
banks, and this is proved by the fact that directors meeting minutes during this time are only
concerned with the failures of member banks; they didn t even discuss the closing of non member
banks (Friedman). The lack of the Fed s action on non member banks is also interesting because
the Fed was created largely in response to the bank panics of 1907, a time when all

The Race Towards Independence Of The 1770 S
Cambria Beatty Linder
Dr. Scotti
History 201
2016. February 14
The Race Towards Independence In the 1770 s, Great Britain established a number of colonies in
North America. The Americans thought of themselves as citizens of Great Britain and subjects of
King George III. Over the span of ten years, Great Britain has experienced deterioration in their
relationship with the thirteen colonies. There were numerous factors that came into play in relation
to the conflict such as the Navigation Acts and Colonial Legislatures, which eventually led to the
Revolutionary War of April 1776. What started out as a minor conflict concluded with a war for
Independence. It all started when the British went to war with the French also known as the French
and Indian War. Following their victory in the French and Indian War in 1763, Great Britain took
control of the French holdings in North America, outside the Caribbean. The British sought to
maintain peaceful relations with those Indian tribes that had allied with the French, and keep them
separated from the American frontiersmen. To this end, the Royal Proclamation of 1763 restricted
settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains as this was designated an Indian Reserve.
Disregarding the proclamation, some groups of settlers continued to move west and establish farms.
The proclamation was soon modified and was no longer a hindrance to settlement, but the fact that
it had been promulgated without their prior consultation angered the colonists

Literature Review: The topic of communication is very broad and unique. Communication in its
simplest context is defined as the transfer of information from a sender to a receiver with
recourse of feedback. This involves the use of a medium for transferring information that could
comprise F2F medium: direct voice to ear transfer of information; electronic medias telephones,
computers, radios, televisions, cell phones, faxes, and text messages; or the print media:
newspapers, journals, books, manual written reports, etc. or even the use of signs/sounds: beating
of drums in some African societal settings, sign language used by the deaf and dump. Drum
beating communication was recently seen in a village setting in Liberia, 31 July 2010, during a

the village summoned the villagers from far and nearby beating of drums. One elder I spoke to told

Animal Dreaming and Substantiation-A Connection to Humanity
Animal sleep is presented in various patterns like hibernation, nocturnal activity, and even napping!
For example, penguins rarely sleep in case of abrupt attacks of predators. They sleep in standing
positions for only a few minutes to provide security. In some occasions, penguins take naps in the
ocean after a full meal. In contrast, brown bats spend generally nineteen hours just on sleeping
hanging upside down. As these examples demonstrate, the state of sleeping in animals is confirmed
based on scientific research. The evidence of animal sleep is obvious, mainly characterized by
temporary unconsciousness, non responsiveness to external stimuli, and passivity in movement.

In particular, birds compensate for sleep loss with SWS (slow wave sleep), the fourth stage of
sleep. Higher blood circulation in the hippocampus was caught on the PET scan demonstrating
the same result as REM sleep. Although birds spend five percent of their sleep in REM sleep and
the rest in SWS, they seem to have very brief dreaming episodes. Finally, involuntary body
movements show unconsciousness or resemble the movements which happen in the
dream.Initially, intellectual animals exhibit body movements only at stages associated with
dreaming. Body movements include occasional spasms of the face, twitching, and muscular
atony. For instance, dogs generally bark or twitch their legs during REM sleep. Besides dogs, five

which muscles are relaxed. In the 1970s, Adrian Morrison, Ph. D of university of Pennsylvania

demonstrate movements similar to previous experiences which show that they have collective

How Qar Which Stands For Question Answer Relationship
Explain
QAR which stands for Question Answer Relationship. Is a strategy that helps you understand the
four different types of questions that are asked before, during, and after reading. Therefore,
knowing how to answer these questions will help you get more answers correct and help you find
the answers faster.
Now, where I can find answers to questions? QAR has two main categories. The first category is
in the text/book: which means that the answers are supplied by the author. The second category is
in my head: which means that the answers are based on the reader s ideas and experiences (prior
knowledge).
Let s look at the four different types of QAR s. So, if you look at your sheet of paper titled the
Question Answer Relationships, you see that there are many boxes. However, we are going to
focus on the top four boxes. The first box labeled Right There is usually the easiest to find in the
text/ book because the answer is found Right There. It is usually found in one or two sentences. The
second box labeled Think and Search is a little harder than the first (Right There). Which means that
the answer will not be found in just one part of the text. It may be in several different sentences
throughout the text/book and you may have to search through the text/book to find the answer. In
addition, the reader has to make assumptions and put the answers that they found linking them
together. The third box labeled Author and Me, this means that you are using the text/book and you

The Importance Of Belonging To A Community
Many individuals when asked can identify themselves as belonging to a community. According to
the Oxford dictionary (2010) one definition of community is; all the people who live in a
particular area, country etc. when talked about as a group (p.301). The definition of a community
however is dependent on those who are defining it. Communities can also be defined as the
grouping of individuals who share similar qualities such as religion, race, etc. or who feel a sense
of belonging to a specific group. With the many variations of communities it is unsurprising that a
communityand its definition do not always remain the same. Communities shift and morph as the
people and environments within them do the same, some flourish and others crumble. To better
understand a community and its wellbeing, identifying its strengths and needs are essential.
Looking within the community for these identifications and definitions are necessary. Social
workers can play a role in assisting communities to identify their needs and strengths. Social
workers can further support and empower community members to mobilize towards social action
and change for their community s development. The neighborhood of west Broadway is its own
community. Its geographical boundaries have been identified as encompassing the area between
Portage Ave (north perimeter line) to River (south perimeter line) as well as Osborne Street (east

How Does La Contessa Respond To Isolation
The Sorrows of Unopposed Isolation Companionship is something all humans will encounter
throughout their lifespan, whether it be genuine or false. A genuine companion is one who offers
advice and support with positive and selfless intent. A bogus companion may offer advice and
companionship, but seeks some sort of disguised self benefit or is ashamed of the relationship. In
the Enlightenment novel, The Sorrows of Young Werther by Goethe and in the Baroque opera Le
Nozze di Figaro by Mozart, a theme of isolation due to lack of companionship is prevalent. The
main characters, Werther and La Contessa respectively, respond to isolation differently, resulting in
a different outcome for the two. Ultimately, the character of La Contessa ended up better off than
Werther because of how she responded to isolation. Based upon their response to isolation, I argue
that when no genuine companion is present, it is better for a person to pursue or accept bogus
companionship rather than no companionship, despite the circumstances that lead them to the
isolated state.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

narcissist, my favorite (from a writer s perspective) is her immense lack of empathy. It is
extremely incredible that what little empathy she can find she can control based on who she is
with and what the specific circumstances are. While the book may shed light on some of the
negative things she has done in her past or the negative behaviors associated with her narcissismI
have been sure to include an entire chapter detailing my belief that narcissism should be considered
an objective personality type. Narcissism has an enormous amount of negative connotation
surrounding it which is ironic to be because there are positive attributes some of which many of us
share.
The article mentioned, Most of us have elements of all three, when referring to the three main
personality types of erotics, obsessives, and narcissists (Maccoby). I agree with Maccoby which
is why I think it is important that we continue to find a place in the workplace for those who are
narcissistic and abrasive because even though we may not agree with their style we must
welcome diversity in order to avoid groupthink. I think that ensuring a well balanced mix of
personalities in a workplace can boost production and allow leaders to rise from the shadows of
abrasive and narcissistic leaders who may have overstayed their welcome. Another benefit to
maintaining the abrasive personality in the workplace is to encourage the high achiever in the
room who may have the leadership skills to take over a conversation and just need the right
opportunity to do so. If a high achiever gets fed up with another s behavior it may serve as a
catalyst for his/her management of the group.
If an abrasive worker is also a brilliant one, then we must give him/her a chance to find success
within the organization. If one allows his/her personality to get in the way of success,

Why Does Nathaniel Use Echolalia
Nathaniel loves to play games and participate in activities. He enjoys new activities and helping his
teachers. When Nathaniel feels that he did not show his group members respect, he will apologize
for his actions and become fully engage in the group. In sessions, Nathaniel tends to use echolalia to
process a question or new information. Initially, I thought Nathaniel was mocking myself and the

Gambling has become the easiest way for making quick cash, but it has as well ensured financial
ruin of many people. The gambling addiction has rarely been in the favor of the gambler whether it
is blackjack gambling, poker or other different gambling. It is the gambling industry that always
ends up making fortunes from their gamblinginvestments. Most people have seriously been
addicted to gambling, and they have always found it hard to walk out even after experiencing total
financial ruin. There is various type of gambling addiction, for instance, betting with a friend to
win something or rather getting into a raffle with a friend, purchase of a lottery ticket,
participating in casinos, slot machines and cards. Besides, gambling addiction is quite evident
when one ends up getting into a financial ruin, and feels that it is only gambling that can help
solve the situation by winning more cash. However, this has always ended up in an unending cycle

Inventory Management
TEAM # 8 SOM 306 California State University, Northridge
Table of Contents
Executive Summary
The operations management problem that our group chosen to discuss about occurs at a small,
family owned restaurant business called Good Greek Grill. Known best for their tasty greek
food, the company s primary problem is inventory management; trying to determine the order
quantities and the method of lot sizing and when to order so the company doesn t waste items
with short life such as the dairy products that uses like yogurt and milk. In the past the store has
had been throwing away large quantities of dairy products due to lack of forecasting the demand
for dairy products as well as weak inventory planning methods from unqualified employees. As a
result, Good Greek Grill (G3) asked our group to help them solve the problem since after getting a
SOM class we are able to determine methods towards solutions of Operational Management
problems. The solution can be found by getting to know what is the current reorder point and order
quantity by using the EOQ (Economic Order Quantity) inventory model . Cost cutting is essential
as the store doesn t get enough customers that are interested in the dessert and coffee products that
are offered in store. Yogurt is used in our dessert items which are the strawberry greek yogurt and

  • 2. Examples Of Passion In A Midsummer Night s Dream Throughout history, passion has never been a stranger to the human race, or to any fictional race for that matter. Be it as a whole for ultimate survival and future progress or as an individual for one s own interests and hobbies, passion is the driving force behind us all. Though fictional, examples of passion can be found within the characters in William Shakespeare s play, A Midsummer Night s Dream. His marvelous writing has allowed for three excellent exemplifications of passion. These three examples would be love, revenge, and mischief displayed by the characters Hermia, Oberon, and Robin Goodfellow, respectively. • 3. Discourse Markers The Use of Discourse Markers So um, I mean yeah I was wondering if like, you had any job openings for this summer? This was the way a potential employee approached my dad, asking if he had a position for them to work this summer. Filler words such as um and like are used very commonly throughout conversations between individuals in this day and age, many individuals not even realizing they are using them. But why do we use discourse markers? And do they make people seem unprofessional or uneducated to potential employers? One view of the use of discourse markers comes from Jean E. Fox Tree, a cognitive psychologist who works at The University of California Santa Cruz. Her works specialize in the use of discourse markers and enquoting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The women also typically thought they used less filler words than the men. This was surprising, as it was not expected that there would be a difference in how many filler words they thought they used. While this data may not be representative for men and women of all ages, it does give a good idea of how college students differ using discourse markers. In the second part of my experiment, the participants were told the experiment was actually about the use of filler words, and then they were asked to answer the question Can you describe the moment you said goodbye to your parents before they left you at college? . When the participants concentrated on not using discourse makers, the number of times they used them went down drastically. Two out of the three women and all three men told the whole story without using a single filler word or discourse marker. But while they were not using these words, there were awkward silences in which the participant would think about what to say next. This was very interesting, as it may explain another reason why we use discourse markers and filler words. We want to avoid these awkward silences in which neither person is saying anything, so we use these words and phrases to cease the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bitter And Sweet American Identity In the book Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, the Author, Jamie Ford, illustrates American identity as something that comes in several different spectrums, but encompassing the same basic ideas that shaped our country in the first place through characters such as Mr.Okabe and Mr.Lee. Our country was based off of standing up and fighting for what we believe in. This is exactly what both Mr.Lee and Mr.Okabe do. Mr.Lee stays loyal to what he thinks is right even when not everyone in his surrounding approves and Mr.Okabe fights for inequality and justice by obeying the laws placed by the government of the United Statesof America. He wanted us to see how different each American is. We all follow the guidelines placed upon by the fathers of our nation, but we each adapt it in our own unique ways. From day one, the United States has always been known for its freedom and democracy and when the power is literally placed in the hands of those who it directly effects, by no means does this limit our people but pushes us to explore and question the unknown of the nation we control. Even though our society can be broken down into different ethnicities, as a whole we are a culture of our own. A very unique blend of all our values, dedication, hard work, and perseverance. This is what Ford wanted to illustrate Americanism as. Even though we all come from something different, we all have the pursuit of happiness. All of this combined is why we call ourselves American and this is what makes up the true American identity which we all can relate to. Like Theodore Roosevelt once said, Americanism is a question of principle, of idealism, of character. It is not a matter of birthplace, or creed, or line of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Today it is in our best interest to encourage everyone s potential by dedicating ourselves to the continual improvement of our own abilities and those of the people with whom we work and live. Total Quality is, essentially, a win win approach which works to everyone s ultimate advantage. According to Deming, no human being should ever evaluate another human being. Therefore, TQM emphasizes self improvement process. In addition, this principle also laminates to the focusing on students strengths, individual learning styles, and different types of intelligences. A System of Ongoing Process The third pillar of TQM as applied in education is the recognition of the organization as a system and the work done within the organization must be seen as an ongoing process. The primary implication of this principle is that individual students and teachers are less to blame for failure than the system in which they work. Quality speaks to working on the system, which must be examined to identify and eliminate the flawed processes that allow its participants to fail. Since systems are made in the quality of those processes largely determine the quality of the resulting product. In the new paradigm of learning , continual improvement of learning outcomes replaces the outdated teach and test mode. Leadership The fourth TQM principle applied to education is that the success of TQM is the responsibility of top management. The school teachers must

  • 8. The Importance Of Bias In Ken Macleod Few contemporary authors have had as profound an effect on their genre, society, political debate, or literature in general as Robert Heinlein. Science fiction novelist Ken Macleod suggests that the world was having a dialogue with Heinlein, unfortunately, one of the unintentional ramifications of dialogue is misunderstanding, one cause of this is reader bias (Macleod et al. 231). Bias is most corrosive to readers understanding when brought to their initial reading, consequently, they should avoid it for at least three reasons; first, it causes a work or author to be regarded in many contradicting ways; second, it creates an atmosphere in which faulty arguments are made; and third, it results in significant elements of the story being ignored. One caveat, readers should not construe this in such a way as to imply that the arguments presented here are merely about the book itself, so much as being about the overall scope of it in relation to Heinlein and the bias levied for or against the book and him. Of additional consideration is the impact those biases had on the overall message as well as the meaning of the work itself and to further extrapolate this into how bias affects other works. It is important to recognize that in this context, bias is any tendency to judge something either more or less favorably based on preexisting notions rather than upon the supporting data. It is equally important to understand that the human mind looks for patterns, the term for this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rockefeller s life before business shaped him into the businessman he became. John D. Rockefeller was born on July 8th, 1839 in New York. Rockefeller s father went around the states scamming people into buying what they thought was the cure for cancer. Rockefeller knew what it was like to move around the country. He first lived in multiple locations in New York, and finally ended up in Ohio where his life would change forever. At the age of 24, Rockefeller and his neighbor Maurice Clark, both put up two thousand dollars and entered the oil refinery business. The two men, Rockefeller and Clark started Standard Oil in Cleveland, Ohio, and by 1872, the two men had owned all of the oil refineries around Cleveland. By 1878, Standard Oil owned about ninety percent of oil in the United States through horizontal integration. Horizontal integration is dominating a particular phase of the production process in order to monopolize a market. Through horizontal integration, Rockefeller was able to control as many oil refineries as he wanted and could monopolize. By monopolizing, Rockefeller did not have to worry about competition, and with Henry Ford s Model T car, oil was at a high demand to power cars. • 10. The Four Roles Of Mentoring And Mentoring In The Odyssey The origin of the term mentor dates back to the near end of 18th century BC, when the Greek epic poem Odyssey, written by Homer, is believed to have been composed. As the main character, Odysseus, embarks in a 20 year long journey, he asks his friend, Mentor, to guide his son during his absence. Mentor accepts it, and acts as a father figure, teacher, role model, leader, and friend to Telemachus (Online Etymology Dictionary). Modern interpretations of mentoring pinpoint four distinct roles which mentors are expected to play: role modeling, sponsorship, coaching, and counseling the mentee. Thus they search for different ways of carrying out their activities successfully. Also organizations must consider a range of factors that meet stakeholder s expectations since no organization exists without their cooperation. Meyer and Herscovitch (2001) argue that commitment is an energy that attracts an individual to behave in accordance to the importance of a given task. Additionally, they claim that varying levels of dedication result in different behaviors. Thus, it can be said that commitment also has the potential to affect employees performance and loyalty to the organizations (Schminke 2011). Although there are many different concepts of the connection between personal and organizational values, Kristof (as cited in Finegan 2010) has defined it as: The compatibility between people and organizations that occurs when: (a) at least one entity provides what the other needs, or (b) they share similar fundamental characteristics, or (c) both (p. 5). • 11. I Have Pretty Serious Concerns About Donald Trump Just like on television, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump dominated the discussion among a handful of voters scattered around Wayne County Tuesday. All said this election was an important one and a big one which could change the direction the country is headed and change how elections are done in the future. For some, like Jennifer Gunnoe, who lives overseas in Tbilisi, Georgia, Trump was among the motivating factors in getting out to vote. I have pretty serious concerns about Donald Trump, Gunnoe said. I want my candidate to win, but another major motivating factor is the state of our country if Donald Trump is elected. There was quite a bit to vote on, a little bit more than usual, she said. I think there is a candidate who will help this country, Tylka said. She is supporting Ohio Gov. John Kasich for president. • 12. Comparing Eros And Bridges Eros, the god of love in Greek mythology, has been portrayed similarly by people throughout time, such as Robert Bridges and Anne Stevenson. Both depictions of Eros show the god to be surprisingly worn down, seen by the shocked responses of the characters, while Bridges concept is more godlike than Stevenson s depiction, seen in the use of rhyme schemes and Stevenson s use of ordinary dialogue. Both writers use the shocked responses of their characters to present the idea that Eros is worn out and ugly. Bridges starts his poem with a question showing the initial shock at the sight of Eros face. The narrator asks why Eros has nothing in [his] face which proves that this character expected Eros to be lively and beautiful instead of what he is seeing. By contrasting the expectation of beauty with the reality of ugliness, Bridges gets across Eros current state of wear. Then, Bridges utilizes a list of metaphors that compare him to a paragon of all that is lovely, such as the idol of the human race and the tyrant of the human heart. By juxtaposing these metaphors with the initial shock of his sight, Bridges... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By having the dialogue between the character and Eros, Stevenson has already humanized Eros in that he will even talk to humans. This is a very simplistic addition to the poem, yet it becomes more important when contrasted with Bridges concept of Eros which never speaks or interacts with the character; he is too godlike and unreachable to do that. Eros also says he is a slave and the gods are the archetypes that you create, giving even more power to the humans. Here Eros is admitting that he has no power and he may deserve ridicule, even though it may not be his fault. The dialogue proves that Stevenson s Eros is worthy of mockery due to his human like faults, but is also very tragic because they aren t his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Thank You For Arguing Summary In section 4 of Thank You For Arguing by Jay Heinrichs, Heinrichs starts out by explaining Cicero s five canons of persuasion that include: invention, arrangement, style, memory, and delivery. Invention is the start of the persuasion and the thought of what is wanted to be accomplished. Then, the issue itself needs to be figured out and resolved. Finally, the person needs to think about the audience and what their values are. That will get an individual a start on the art of persuasion. Arrangement is how a person is going to arrange an argument so the persuasion is the most impactful. Arrangement comes down to this rule of thumb Ethos first. Then logos. Then pathos. (283). Arrangement follows an outline that can be used starting with introduction,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, refutation is developed to win the argument and completely smash your opponents facts and argument. At the end, Heinrichs explains the conclusion where the individual states their best points from the argument. Style is how a person expresses their thoughts and words. Proper language is one of the styles which are words that suit the occasion and my audience (287). Heinrichs also explains the style of clarity, which is speaking to make the words obvious and straight facts. Also, Memory is used to create an image in the audience s minds to make them feel and imagine what the individual is talking about to persuade the audience more impactfully. Finally, the fifth canon of persuasion is delivery and how the person uses body language, along with your voice, rhythms, and breathing (290). Voice is key in delivery especially in the volume of the voice and how the audience emphasises the tone of the speaker. Towards the end of the novel, Heinrichs reiterates on a few keywords including: goals, ethos, pathos, logos, and kairos. Heinrichs also states examples of situations when these tools are needed. An example is when a person wants their book club to read a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Eggs containing traces of contaminants were found in Iowa and Illinois as well ( Deepwater Horizon oil spill of 2010 ). Animals that were found alive in the wake of the spill were transported to rehabilitation centres and, after being cleaned and medically evaluated, were released into oil free areas. Concerns about the offspring of sea turtles that nested on the gulf coasts of Alabama and Florida led wildlife officials to dig up thousands of eggs and hatch them in a warehouse for later release on the Atlantic coast. By late 2012 some 1,700 turtles had been found dead. A long term satellite tracking study released in May 2013 showed that the endangered Kemp s ridley sea turtle was likely severely affected, as its preferred foraging territory was within the area damaged by the spill. • 18. Ethnic Conflicts in Nigeria The military elites made the situation even worse by staging coups and making a mockery of democracy in Nigeria. The military era was marked by corruption, ineptitude and confusion. It drove Nigeria into many problems including economic problems, poverty, and ethno religious conflicts until the 1990s. The military continued intervening because they believed the civilian leaders were inept and indecisive. Ethnic conflicts continued to escalate through the democratic transition in Nigeria, as various ethnic groups demanded political restructuring. The federal structure has developed deep cracks and demands urgent action to fix it. What is most worrisome in Nigeria is the religious dimension of ethnic conflict and competition for power and oil wealth. The numerous ethno religious conflicts that the northern cities of Kaduna, Kano, Jos and Zamfara have witnessed, came about from the introduction of Muslim Sharia courts, in addition to the South s demands for autonomy. The continuing conflict is a sign Nigeria s lack of effective mechanisms to manage ethnic conflicts. The intense ethnic conflicts that rocked Nigeria and South Africa have pushed them to develop constitutionally backed institutions for conflict management. He then provides facts to show possible effects that could happen in the future. Al Gore explains that ninety five percent of fresh water is locked up as ice in the Antarctic. In his speech he continues to explain that if the world continues to warm up, the ice will continue to melt causing the sea level to rise drastically, which could permanently flood some coastal cities. As one army entrenched it s self so would the other, after both opposing armies had entrenched themselves they would attempt to circle around each other to out flank each other; the ultimate goal being to defend one s own trench, while trying to take the enemy s. This method of defensive battle often resulted in long stalemates, in which many soldiers were killed. Trench warfare also results in the creation of a No Man s Land , or the space between two opposing militaries trenches. This area was often striped barren of any plant life, due to the high amounts of gun and artillery fire between both opposing armies. One example of trench warfare during WWI can be found at the battle of the Marne in the September of 1914. Germany, following the Schlieffen Plan, attempted to march on Paris. However, after entering French territory, the French pushed back the Germans, who came under heavy Allied artillery fire (11). The Germans were forced to dig in and entrench themselves, as a means of protection (11). It was because of the constant Allied bombardment that the Germans were forced to resort to the tactic of trench warfare. The Germans dug trenches by hand and set up barricades along the Aisne River, resulting in the first defensive tactics of the war (11). Another prime example of trench warfare is the ... Technology And Design Of The Kodak Camera Introduction A camera can simply be described as an imaging device or a tool used to record images in form of a film, photograph or video (Paul, Bon and Benjamin, 2014). As a passionate photographer, I carry a camera wherever I go since I believe there is always something special to capture; an emotion, a beautiful creation or a unique event. The Kodak camerais my favorite brand. Every year, the Kodak Company releases a better lensed camera featuring better technology and design. In the process, there is always the need to replace my device with one that can perform better an effectively. By replacing an older version, I always had to trash the older one in my room. This called for a better trashing method since these gadgets would crowd... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I would adjust the my father s collar before he left the house, note the stain on my mother s cutlery, the sweat rolling down my friend s face during the cycling competitions and even the splashing droplets whenever it rained. At this point, the Kodak 35 I had received from my father as a gift during my eighth birthday was no longer effective. I needed an upgrade and therefore decided to conduct an online research for one that would perform better. During my research, I made two conflicting realizations. First, the Kodak Company had begun developing digital cameras but the company was also facing the risk of bankruptcy due to low sales. Nonetheless, I was able to upgrade to the Kodak DC25 digital camera. Although it came at a high price, it was an opportunity to improve the quality of my pictures. By the time I was getting to my middle teenage years, I had used four different types of cameras. Out of the three cameras, two were Kodak (already mentioned) while the rest were the Canon IXY Digital and the Nikon Coolpix 2000. All these were quality brands that took my photography skills to a higher level. Today, there are more advance versions of each brand. With increasing completion among the camera manufacturers, it may be difficult to settle for a specific camera. Whenever I want to buy a camera, I analyze the camera resolution and durability. Today, I use the Kodak AZ362 which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. English As A Second Or Foreign Language Essay As the world s economy globalizes, English becomes the first priority language among the foreign languages in most non English speaking countries, including China. In China, there is a boost of English learning and teaching (Sun, 2013). More and more Chinese people learn English as a second or foreign language. However, according to a survey of China s language situation that was conducted in 2006, only 1.8% of English learners in China claimed to be able to act as interpreters on formal occasions, 3.53% to converse quite fluently, 15.61% to conduct daily conversations (Wei Su, 2012). This indicated that only a few English learners in China can speak English fluently and that many English learners do not have the ability to engage in daily interactions. The education in China is exam oriented, but most of the tests emphasize testing students mastery of the reading and language forms while overlooking assessing students speaking abilities (Wei, 2012). And teachers tend to give students practices of the knowledge that are to be tested in the exams. Therefore, many English teachers in China tend to ignore English speaking and they give few opportunities for their students to practice their speaking abilities (Wang, 2014). In China, English language teaching still focuses heavily on language knowledge, not language skills, with the former being defined in terms of grammar and vocabulary and being taught predominantly in the mother tongue and through textbook material and ... • 33. Women And Leadership Title: Women and leadership female style or male style? The Pitch: The debate about the difference in leadership style of women and men continues to attract attention since women make strides into leadership position dominated mainly by men. Men have long been holding these leadership roles and have defined styles accepted by people. Therefore, it is not surprising that women are usual the focus in terms of the discussion on gender difference in leadership styles. There seems to be great disagreement about the behaviour of women and men actually performing such roles (Eagly, 2001). This disagreement on this focus can be divided into two groups. One is the no difference camp, who commonly agreed that there are few differenced in the leadership style of female and male leaders. The other is the gender stereotypic camp who believed the existence of crucial differences in the leadership style between both (Alvesson, 2009). Leadership style is usually viewed as relatively stable patterns of behavior that are represented by leaders. In the circumstance of leadership, agentic and communal features seem especially relevant. For example, agentic features such as independent, dominant and competitive are more attached to men than to women. While communal features such as helpful, kind, gentle, sympathetic and personal sensitive are strongly occupied by women than men (Eagly, 2003). In addition, according to Eagly and Johannesen Schmidt (2001), the difference between agentic and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Monetary Policy During The Great Depression Essay example Monetary Policy During The Great Depression One of the most important aspects of the Great Depression that stands out in economists minds is the surge of bank panics and failures during the depression s onset (1930 1933). However, an institution created with the intention of preventing such a string of disasters failed to fulfill its obligation as a lender of last resort. This is the Fed, and its failure to prevent the early bank panics of the Great Depression is a very interesting economic issue. So why did the Fed fail to fulfill its duty? The reason for the Fed s actions (or lack thereof) was a combination of the strict elitist leadership in the Fed and the results of adaptive expectations on immature monetary policy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Later it was determined that bank failures were a problem of bank management which was not the systems responsibility (Friedman 358). This is the first example of the Fed s apathetic and elitist attitude; this attitude prevented them from seeing that bank panics are contagious. If the public looses confidence in the system because it knows the Fed will not help them, this will only cause more runs on banks. The truth is that the Fed was every bit as responsible for the bank panics as poor bank management was. The Fed did not want to admit to this, and so further separated itself by declaring that non member banks were not its problem either (Friedman 358). From 1921 to 1930 most failed banks were non members. The Fed felt no responsibility for these banks, and this is proved by the fact that directors meeting minutes during this time are only concerned with the failures of member banks; they didn t even discuss the closing of non member banks (Friedman). The lack of the Fed s action on non member banks is also interesting because the Fed was created largely in response to the bank panics of 1907, a time when all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Race Towards Independence Of The 1770 S Cambria Beatty Linder Dr. Scotti History 201 2016. February 14 The Race Towards Independence In the 1770 s, Great Britain established a number of colonies in North America. The Americans thought of themselves as citizens of Great Britain and subjects of King George III. Over the span of ten years, Great Britain has experienced deterioration in their relationship with the thirteen colonies. There were numerous factors that came into play in relation to the conflict such as the Navigation Acts and Colonial Legislatures, which eventually led to the Revolutionary War of April 1776. What started out as a minor conflict concluded with a war for Independence. It all started when the British went to war with the French also known as the French and Indian War. Following their victory in the French and Indian War in 1763, Great Britain took control of the French holdings in North America, outside the Caribbean. The British sought to maintain peaceful relations with those Indian tribes that had allied with the French, and keep them separated from the American frontiersmen. To this end, the Royal Proclamation of 1763 restricted settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains as this was designated an Indian Reserve. Disregarding the proclamation, some groups of settlers continued to move west and establish farms. The proclamation was soon modified and was no longer a hindrance to settlement, but the fact that it had been promulgated without their prior consultation angered the colonists ... Literature Review: The topic of communication is very broad and unique. Communication in its simplest context is defined as the transfer of information from a sender to a receiver with recourse of feedback. This involves the use of a medium for transferring information that could comprise F2F medium: direct voice to ear transfer of information; electronic medias telephones, computers, radios, televisions, cell phones, faxes, and text messages; or the print media: newspapers, journals, books, manual written reports, etc. or even the use of signs/sounds: beating of drums in some African societal settings, sign language used by the deaf and dump. • 37. Animal Dreaming and Substantiation-A Connection to Humanity Animal sleep is presented in various patterns like hibernation, nocturnal activity, and even napping! For example, penguins rarely sleep in case of abrupt attacks of predators. They sleep in standing positions for only a few minutes to provide security. In some occasions, penguins take naps in the ocean after a full meal. In contrast, brown bats spend generally nineteen hours just on sleeping hanging upside down. As these examples demonstrate, the state of sleeping in animals is confirmed based on scientific research. The evidence of animal sleep is obvious, mainly characterized by temporary unconsciousness, non responsiveness to external stimuli, and passivity in movement. Although animal sleeping is corroborated by these common symptoms,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In particular, birds compensate for sleep loss with SWS (slow wave sleep), the fourth stage of sleep. Higher blood circulation in the hippocampus was caught on the PET scan demonstrating the same result as REM sleep. Although birds spend five percent of their sleep in REM sleep and the rest in SWS, they seem to have very brief dreaming episodes. Finally, involuntary body movements show unconsciousness or resemble the movements which happen in the dream.Initially, intellectual animals exhibit body movements only at stages associated with dreaming. Body movements include occasional spasms of the face, twitching, and muscular atony. For instance, dogs generally bark or twitch their legs during REM sleep. Besides dogs, five zebra finches and their body movement were monitored byPhilip Low at the Salk Institute for Biological Sciences. Muscular atony is a symptom of paradoxical REM sleep and the state in which muscles are relaxed. In the 1970s, Adrian Morrison, Ph. D of university of Pennsylvania observed the state of atonia in dogs which occurred after REM sleep. Furthermore, animals demonstrate movements similar to previous experiences which show that they have collective memory. The imitation of mammals made in REM sleep can be led to the relation between REM sleep and memory. Platypuses also make movements imitating the process where they kill ... • 38. How Qar Which Stands For Question Answer Relationship Explain QAR which stands for Question Answer Relationship. Is a strategy that helps you understand the four different types of questions that are asked before, during, and after reading. Therefore, knowing how to answer these questions will help you get more answers correct and help you find the answers faster. Now, where I can find answers to questions? QAR has two main categories. The first category is in the text/book: which means that the answers are supplied by the author. The second category is in my head: which means that the answers are based on the reader s ideas and experiences (prior knowledge). Let s look at the four different types of QAR s. So, if you look at your sheet of paper titled the Question Answer Relationships, you see that there are many boxes. However, we are going to focus on the top four boxes. The first box labeled Right There is usually the easiest to find in the text/ book because the answer is found Right There. It is usually found in one or two sentences. The second box labeled Think and Search is a little harder than the first (Right There). Which means that the answer will not be found in just one part of the text. It may be in several different sentences throughout the text/book and you may have to search through the text/book to find the answer. In addition, the reader has to make assumptions and put the answers that they found linking them together. The third box labeled Author and Me, this means that you are using the text/book and you ... • 39. The Importance Of Belonging To A Community Many individuals when asked can identify themselves as belonging to a community. According to the Oxford dictionary (2010) one definition of community is; all the people who live in a particular area, country etc. when talked about as a group (p.301). The definition of a community however is dependent on those who are defining it. Communities can also be defined as the grouping of individuals who share similar qualities such as religion, race, etc. or who feel a sense of belonging to a specific group. With the many variations of communities it is unsurprising that a communityand its definition do not always remain the same. Communities shift and morph as the people and environments within them do the same, some flourish and others crumble. To better understand a community and its wellbeing, identifying its strengths and needs are essential. Looking within the community for these identifications and definitions are necessary. Social workers can play a role in assisting communities to identify their needs and strengths. Social workers can further support and empower community members to mobilize towards social action and change for their community s development. The neighborhood of west Broadway is its own community. • 40. How Does La Contessa Respond To Isolation The Sorrows of Unopposed Isolation Companionship is something all humans will encounter throughout their lifespan, whether it be genuine or false. A genuine companion is one who offers advice and support with positive and selfless intent. A bogus companion may offer advice and companionship, but seeks some sort of disguised self benefit or is ashamed of the relationship. In the Enlightenment novel, The Sorrows of Young Werther by Goethe and in the Baroque opera Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart, a theme of isolation due to lack of companionship is prevalent. The main characters, Werther and La Contessa respectively, respond to isolation differently, resulting in a different outcome for the two. Ultimately, the character of La Contessa ended up better off than Werther because of how she responded to isolation. Based upon their response to isolation, I argue that when no genuine companion is present, it is better for a person to pursue or accept bogus companionship rather than no companionship, despite the circumstances that lead them to the isolated state.... Due to Werther s all in or all out mentality, when rejected by Charlotte romantically, he first becomes obsessive and, due to Charlotte s steadfast rejection, chooses to isolate himself from her completely. • 41. Reflection Paper On Narcissism Reading this week s articles became all too personal for me as I began to reflect on the book that I am writing in which the protagonist is a narcissist. When telling people about my book most people cannot get past the fact that the protagonist is my mother, but her narcissistic personality is what created the storyline for my entire text. She has many of the classic attributes of a narcissist, my favorite (from a writer s perspective) is her immense lack of empathy. It is extremely incredible that what little empathy she can find she can control based on who she is with and what the specific circumstances are. While the book may shed light on some of the negative things she has done in her past or the negative behaviors associated with her narcissismI have been sure to include an entire chapter detailing my belief that narcissism should be considered an objective personality type. Narcissism has an enormous amount of negative connotation surrounding it which is ironic to be because there are positive attributes some of which many of us share. The article mentioned, Most of us have elements of all three, when referring to the three main personality types of erotics, obsessives, and narcissists (Maccoby). I agree with Maccoby which is why I think it is important that we continue to find a place in the workplace for those who are narcissistic and abrasive because even though we may not agree with their style we must welcome diversity in order to avoid groupthink. I think that ensuring a well balanced mix of personalities in a workplace can boost production and allow leaders to rise from the shadows of abrasive and narcissistic leaders who may have overstayed their welcome. Another benefit to maintaining the abrasive personality in the workplace is to encourage the high achiever in the room who may have the leadership skills to take over a conversation and just need the right opportunity to do so. If a high achiever gets fed up with another s behavior it may serve as a catalyst for his/her management of the group. If an abrasive worker is also a brilliant one, then we must give him/her a chance to find success within the organization. If one allows his/her personality to get in the way of success, ...
