Analysis Of Maus And The Sandman By Neil Gainman
When defining great literature, graphic novels are often the last source scholars and educators
consider. In general, graphic novels are seen as low brow, mass culture entertainment or as
pedagogical tools (Long 6). In recent years graphic novels have proven to be worthy of being
considered great literature and valuable tools in the classroom. Comic books should not be viewed
simply as aesthetic objects, but rather as texts which function when read by their audience within a
specific context. Our education curriculums are heavily relied on reading comprehension, which has
proven to be a struggle for visual learners. Graphic novels offer value, variety, and new medium for
literacy that acknowledges the impact of visuals. Novels such as Maus by Art Spiegelman and The
Sandman (vertigo) by Neil Gainman, not only appeal to visual learners, but are useful across all
curriculums. Maus and The Sandman offer different style narratives and visuals that reflect the diverse
nature of graphic novels. The variety in compositions between these two demonstrate the strengths of
the graphic novel genre, and how they can be considered valuable sources of education. The use of
word image combination allow the reader of graphic novels to experience much more than what words
allot. For visual learners that struggle with reading compression, the visual components of graphic
novels help portray the context in a medium that is easier for these learners to digest. Maus by Art
Spiegelman is one of

Bank Loans
BANK LOANS statistics project on bank loans
1. Introduction
This study has been conducted in order to obtain some extra information regarding credit retrieval
from banks. We have collected data from 120 people which have contracted bank loans, by asking
them to answer our questionnaire. The questionnaire consists of 15 interconnected questions we
consider relevant and might help interpret the results better.
In a loan, the borrower initially receives an amount of money, called the principal, from the lender,
and is obligated to pay back or repay an equal amount of money to the lender at a later time. The loan
is generally provided at a cost, referred to as interest on the debt, which provides an incentive for the
lender to engage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

2.4. Children
Children seem to play a major role in the decision of getting a bank loan of a person or couple. Out of
the selected persons, only 27 did not have any children and most of them were in our youngest age
group, fact that is understanble considering the implications that raising a child has. Most people had
one or two children, but there were two cases in which the person had more than three children.
[pic]
2.5. Education level
As expected, the education level had a major impact on the number of loans accesed. The wining
category was the bachelor degree one, as people from this group have a higher level of education and
are prone to have better jobs, thus having more chances in receiving a loan from a bank. Furthermore,
they are the ones that require more money for investments, which usually comes from banks. The
sutyd revealed that 67 people with a bachelor degree had a loan, thus more than 50% of the total
interviewed subjects.
On the other hand, there were 23 people who had finished high school and responded positive,
showing that loans for personal needs attract customers.

2.6. Profession
Profession is linked in a way to the income of a person so it has a big impact on the results. Although
we tried to offer a large variety of options, many of the interviewed volunteers chose the option Other

The Purpose Of Public Education
Public education has many purposes in contemporary society. One purpose should be to teach kids
basic skills that they need throughout life; this includes basic math, reading, writing. Along with this
on a broader level I believe that schools should teach children to have a growth mindset. A growth
mindset is important for everyone to have throughout life as it will allow them to be more open to new
experiences and it will teach them to question what they are told. The ability to question the status quo
is what allows people to express themselves and their ideas, it prevents people from being oppressed.
Finally I believe that public education should teach kids to be excited about learning. Kids should not
dread going to school, instead it should be a positive experience and kids should understand that
learning happens throughout life and does not stop after K 12 education. To instill a love for learning
is to ensure that children become lifelong learners. Public schools in the US today have strikingly
different purposes than these but I believe that if these were to become our purposes then we would
have a more educated and more aware society. These purposes are important to students, families, and
societies in multiple ways. They are important to students because it helps them grow as individuals.
With a growth mindset they are able to think more critically of different situations and they are able to
continue to be learners. Without this they would stay in the same

Comparison Between Durkheim And Freud s Theory Of Religion
Throughout this essay, an attempt to compare and contrast two key theorists approach to the study of
religion namely Durkheim and Freud will take place. This will consist of four stages, firstly an
introduction comprising of a definition of religion by Durkheim will occur. Secondly a comparison
and contrast of the approaches by Freud and Durkheim to the study of religion, as well as the strength
and weaknesses of these approaches and lastly a presentation of a conclusion will occur.
A number of problems are often encountered when dealing with the study of religion, the foremost
problem has to do with defining religion. For instance, definitions that attach and limit religion to
simply a belief in God/gods tend to be vague as well as narrow and to some degree not entirely
accurate. This is mainly because definitions like the one mentioned above neglect to take into account
atheistic religions that do not believe in God/gods. This is illustrated in a definition provided by the
oxford English dictionary, Action or conduct indicating belief in, obedience to, and reverence for a
god, gods, or similar superhuman power; the performance of religious rites or observances.
An alternative definition is presented in Durkheim s book, The Elementary Forms of religious life,
A religion is a unified system of beliefs and practices relative to sacred things, that is to say things set
apart and forbidden beliefs and practices which unite into one single moral community called a
church,

Confidence And Stereotypes

Confidence? Being able to belief in oneself and one s abilities. Many teenagers don t have full trust
among themselves. Confidence comes in many types of ways. Everyone goes through a stage in their
life where they don t have full confidence in themselves. In many of the cases people aren t happy
with their self just like I once was. As time passes and the older I get I have more confidence in
myself. About four years ago when I started high school everything for me changed. Receiving good
grades and passing all my classes was a big goal I wanted to achieve. My first semester as a freshman

Dickinson s I dreaded that first robin so Essay
Dickinson s poetry has been interpreted a number of different ways. To some she may come across
suicidal, to others depressed, or even philosophical to a number of readers. In her poem number 347
her depression and feelings of inadequacy are clear. In this poem Dickinson is a diva and is like any
other person, scared of change; feelings that people typically get over quickly. Dickinson is being
drama queen by explaining and lingering upon her depression and feelings of inadequacy by
comparing herself unreasonably to and transcending the beautiful structures involved with spring
through her uses of allusion, symbolism, and personification. Dickinson shows how she is being a
drama queen and unreasonably trying to explain her inadequacy ... Show more content on

The grass is given the human characteristics of height and growth. She gives the grass these qualities
in order to make it seem like the grass is guarding her from everything else in the world. Dickinson
feels so inadequate that she must hide behind a sizable wall of grass in order that the rest of the
structures associated with spring would not come and see her. She assumes that the bees, flowers and
birds are all too beautiful to be associated with her and so she must remain incognito and enshrouded
by the grass. Her feelings are unreasonable as the structures that are all associated with spring are
some of the most beautiful in nature, therefore her comparisons and attempts to transcend the beauty
involved with nature is illogical. Dickinson tries to transcend and compare herself to the nature around
her but it is not a reasonable structure to transcend and so she feels inadequate and decides to remain
clandestine behind a wall of grass. Dickinson also uses the symbolism of spring to show her
unreasonable feelings of inadequacy by comparing herself to and attempting to transcend it. Spring is
typically seen as a time of renewal and renaissance because it is the avenue to summer where nature is
full of life and growing after the winter. Thus spring symbolizes new birth and beauty. Dickinson feels
that she cannot face spring because it is too beautiful and fruitful a season for her. Compared to the
season of spring and all it entails she feels unattractive and

Mesopotamia Dbq Essay
The cultures of Mesopotamia and Egypt developed into such successful civilizations for various
reasons. Mesopotamia is located in the middle of the Fertile Crescent, which is made up of the Tigris
and Euphrates rivers. Egypt is located in Africa and has natural barriers that protect it. Those barriers
are the Red Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, the Nile River, and various mountains. Mesopotamia was an
ideal place to start civilization. It has natural barriers as well, which are rivers and mountains. Because
the rivers surrounded Mesopotamia, it was suitable for farming. With the Map of Mesopotamia and
the Fertile Crescent seen in document 2, it can be proven that the area of Mesopotamia is located in

Tully s company overall has a great relationship within its four walls. Each department has a
relationship with the next because often there are many people that wear many different hats, meaning
they work in multiple offices. This is done on purpose so that each department talks to each other. So
for the marketing department and sale department this is no different. Within these two departments
they work closely together on creating relationships with customers here in the U.S. and overseas. Part
of the Tully s brand is that they help aid communities that they operate in and this is part of their
missions and vision so this turns into a sale pitch to the public. They use community aid to sales their
product just as much as they love doing the work that shows their care of the world around them.

Alan Sears Theory And Common Sense Summary
Although I was aware that sociology like the other social sciences is full of theories, I was very
intrigued by the social order model and conflict model that Alan Sears presented. In the chapter,
Theory and Common Sense, from the text, A Good Book, In Theory, Alan Sears begins by asserting
that our thoughts and beliefs that we consider to be common sense are actually assumptions that we
have unknowingly learn from institutions. Sears goes on to explain that in order to unlearn the ideas
that we have adopted unconsciously, we must think critically about our common sense and look at
things we already know as if for the first time (29). One example that Sears uses is the fact that we see
the sun and know that the Earth is actually moving. We believe this to be the truth even though we can
not fully wrap our heads arounds the phenomenon. This emphasizes our natural tendency as members
of society to absorb information from those that we perceive to be more knowledgeable than us
because we re taught that people in higher positions than us(i.e. teachers, government ... Show more

The first model is the social order model which says that the dominating values of society are what
keeps things in order. Moreover, if we all share the same beliefs and values, the world supposedly runs
smoother and more fairly. This theory relies on negotiation between different groups in order to create
change. The other model that Sears describes is the conflict model, which is the opposite of the social
order model. The conflict model states that our society is organized around fundamental inequalities
rather than our shared values. According to the conflict theory only the conflict that emerges from
social inequality can lead to

Rasputin was a godsend for socialists and reformists, who pointed to his political interference and
lurid nocturnal activities as evidence that tsarism was rotten to the core (4). As you walk in the city of
Russia you see articles and cartoons that depicted that the tsar was under Rasputin spell or dancing to
his music, there were gossiping flowing around the people of Russia which lead them to believe that
Rasputin was having a relationship with the Tsarina. Duma heard the gossips which made them
furious. The Duma could not believe that Rasputin could commit such an act to the Tsarina. Prince

Breast Augmentation Lab Report
For several years, it has been my dream to pursue a career in the medical field一particularly as a
plastic surgeon. As a junior in high school, I was given the opportunity to witness two cosmetic
surgical procedures: an abdominoplasty and a breast augmentation. Of these two, my favorite surgery
to observe was the breast augmentation. Reflecting on this experience, I have come to understand that
many of the techniques and tools associated with these surgical procedures are closely related to
principles of chemistry. In particular, aspects including the use of povidone iodine solution in surgical
preparation, the materials of different implants, and the use of implant sizers especially reflect some
fundamental concepts of chemistry. As with most surgeries, povidone iodine solution is applied to the
areas of operation, as well as over the gloves of surgeons. This solution is composed of povidone,
hydrogen iodide, and elemental iodine (PubChem). At room temperature, ... Show more content on

Although there are various types of breast implants, they are typically filled with either saline or
silicone. Saline breast implants are filled with a sterilized salt water solution, which mimics much of
the fluid present within the human body (MENTOR® Saline Breast Implants). Since these two fluids
are similar, if an implant were to rupture, the saline solution would be dissolved by the fluid within the
body (MENTOR® Saline Breast Implants). This scenario of like dissolving like demonstrates the
principle of solubility in chemistry. Silicone breast implants, on the other hand, are filled with silicone

Religion Assessment Ezekiel was a young priest when he was growing up, he was always around the

Prevalence of Obesity in Children Introduced in the Elementary School Prevalence of obesity in the
children introduced in Elementary School is an article published by Journal of Nursing discussing
childhood obesity in elementary schools. Obesity is defined as excessive accumulation of body fat
(deWit O Neill, 2014). The article is based on studies performed in Brazilian communities. Topics of
the different studies consisted of private school setting, lower income families in different locations,
different child age groups and socioeconomic differences. The first study consisted of children in
private school settings. The obesity rate in the public school was 11.3% and 27.0% in girls and 13.0%
in boys (Rocha, 2013). The middle and high socioeconomic status of the children was not a factor to
why the children would or would not be overweight (Rocha, 2013). It would be assumed that because
children of higher socioeconomic status who would see a pediatrician on a regular basis would not be
overweight. The second study was performed on kindergarten students. Weight for the age and height
was used in this study. It was decided that females showed higher concentration to males (Rocha,
2013). The third study was conducted on students from ages of six to nine. This study had the lowest
rate of obesity 3.6% (Rocha, 2013). The founding of this study weighed more on the aspect to what

Importance Of Anne Frank s Way To Look For The Good In People

right with the data I have collected. What if you did something bad, wouldn t you want people to

even when they have done something bad, to let them have a chance to be good. Nobody was born

Those With Disability Essay
Several years after Congress took steps to guarantee equal access for the disabled at the voting polls,
studies showed that in the United States during the 2012 election cycle, 1 in 5 voters with disabilities
said they were kept from casting their ballot on their own and more than half said they encountered
hurdles (Heasley). Disabilities can be defined as an impairment that may be physical, cognitive,
intellectual, mental, sensory, developmental, or a combination of impairments that causes restrictions
on an individual s ability to participate in society. With an ongoing problem in society as great as this,
many began to question how such an impactful issue can be resolved. How does one s disability affect
their political participation within society? How do one s disabilities even interfere with their ability to
cast their vote in elections? How can one take steps to further improve one s political participation
whether they have physical, mental, or psychosocial disabilities?
Currently, not much action has been taken to study or improve the conditions negatively imposed
upon those with disabilities. These critical issues will be examined in this study through the use of
peer reviewed articles, books, and legislative regulation proving their true impact on their ability to
increase political participation for those with disabilities. This study will seek to investigate if and
why the lack of money is impacting access to special equipment which inhibits citizen s ability

Bernie Madoff Chapter Summaries
This book talks about how Bernie Madoff was a liar and a cheat to American society where people got

the world s biggest thief that stole millions from people and destroyed numerous lives. He made
people believe they were going to get rich quick and that was his incentive on getting people to
participate in his schemes. The book reports how this crook used his legal business as a broker dealer
and his standing as an innovative creator of Nasdaq to attract investors and avoid harsh scrutiny from
the Securities and Exchange Commission. It described how he parlayed the reputations of a few
valued and respected investors and associates into large followings in high class communities like the
Upper East Side of Manhattan and Palm Beach, and how he used feeder funds, which drove clients
money to him, to extend his global reach. Some of Madoff s victims include faces of Hollywood and

of the situation United States guards caused against Iraqi detainees. Under Bush s presidency, United
States soldiers brought physical abuse and humiliation upon the Abu Ghraib Prison. Szegedy Maszak
briefly analyzes the situation and compares the abuse to further scientific experiments in which test
obedience. One of the experiments was the topic of another article titled, The Stanford Prison

In his article The Social Contract and Human Rights, Grant effectively shares the importance of
human rights to society. He believes even meager obedience to inadequate authority is unethical by
stating, When obedience is either enforced through conquest or slavery, or is simply the result of blind
and unthinking compliance with the law, there is no free, intelligent, and conscious choice involved
(Grant 18). In situations like the Abu Ghraib Prison Scandal, Grant would confirm human rights given
to the guards were lacking, which allowed them to conform with the social pressures of law
enforcement. While testing obedience in his experiment, Zimbardo encountered a contrary thought.
For his specific experiment, the subjects were assigned consent paperwork and monetary reward for

perform the roles were not. After he distributed nearly zero guidelines to his experimental guards,
Zimbardo discovered, ...the guards became more aggressive, prisoners became more passive

the turn of the seventeenth century, was the playwright William Shakespeare s longest play and among
the most influential works to exist in English literature. The play dramatizes the poisonous intents of
the demonically brilliant king of Denmark, Claudius, a man so driven by greed and lust for his brother
s, King Hamlet s, throne, wife and supremacy that he commits the ultimate act of fratricide,
consequently inheriting the primal eldest curse of Cain and Abel. His toxic act affected his
relationships with numerous other characters, and eventually led to several of their demises. Prince
Hamlet, son of the late King Hamlet and Claudius nephew and step son, was one such example of a
character directly affected by Claudius venomous ways; he became suicidal after his father s unnatural
death. This essay will examine the poisonous nature of King Claudius, the inadvertent penalties of his
deeds and Hamlet s extensive use of the trope of poison.
In the complex web of human destinies, where so many lives are meshed intricately together, the
freely chosen actions of one individual may breed damaging, entirely unforeseeable effects in the lives
of countless anonymous others. (On Evil, Terry Eagleton, p. 33). Eagleton, a prominent British literary
theorist and critic, is essentially saying here that one s actions can have a profound effect on many

Under this approach, TQM implementation focuses on meeting specific award criteria. Although some
argue that this is not an appropriate use of award criteria, some organizations do use this approach and
it can result in improvement.
Deming s 14 Points on Total Quality Management:
Deming s 14 Points on Quality Management, a core concept on implementing total quality
management, is a set of management practices to help companies increase their quality and
productivity.
1. Create constancy of purpose for improving products and services.
2. Adopt the new philosophy.
3. Cease dependence on inspection to achieve quality.
4. End the practice of awarding business on price alone; instead, minimize total cost by working with
a single supplier.
5. Improve constantly and forever every process for planning, production and service.
6. Institute training on the job.
7. Adopt and institute leadership.
8. Drive out fear.

Hypothyroidism Research Paper
Hypothyroidism: The Effects of an Underactive Thyroid Gland Within the endocrine system, the
thyroid gland plays an important role on daily function and activity. The thyroid gland is a butterfly
shaped gland located in front of the neck, right below the larynx. The thyroid gland produces thyroid
hormones, primarily T3 (thyroxine) and T4 (triiodothyronine) (NIDDK, 2013). It is very important
that the body produces the appropriate amount of thyroid hormones because these hormones affect
nearly every organ in the body. More specifically, thyroid hormones regulate an individual s
metabolism such as heart rate, energy use, energy level, and protein synthesis (Family Doctor, 2014).
Hypothyroidism is a disorder of the thyroid gland. Hypothyroidism ... Show more content on

Autoimmune diseases cause the immune system to attack the body s own cells, tissues, and organs
(Mayo Clinic Staff, 2015). Therefore, autoimmune diseases can cause the immune system to attack
thyroid glands. When this occurs, the attack causes inflammation and interference in thyroid hormone
production (NIDDK, 2013). Thyroid surgery that involves the removal of the thyroid gland may cause
hypothyroidism. Thyroid glands are surgically removed for people with cancer, certain diseases, and
hyperthyroidism (NIDDK, 2013). Radiation therapy, such as radioactive iodine, gradually destroys the
thyroid gland (NIDDK, 2013). With the absence of thyroid gland, this leads to hypothyroidism.
Congenital diseases, more specifically defective thyroid gland, can cause hypothyroidism. Some
infants are born with defective thyroid gland or no thyroid gland (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2015). The
pituitary gland produces TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone). TSH instructs the thyroid gland to
produce thyroid hormones (Family Doctor, 2014). Pituitary disorders may hinder and limit the
production of TSH by the pituitary gland. The lack of production of TSH directly affects the
production of thyroid hormones. Therefore, pituitary disorders may lead to hypothyroidism.
Medications can interfere with thyroid hormone production. This

Sociological Explanations For The Divorce Phenomenon
A major change that has occurred in the Western family is an increased incidence in divorce. Whereas
in the past, divorce was a relatively rare occurrence, in recent times it has become quite commonplace.
This change is borne out clearly in census figures. For example thirty years ago in Australia, only one
marriage in ten ended in divorce; nowadays the figure is more than one in three (Australian Bureau of
Statistics, 1996: p.45). A consequence of this change has been a substantial increase in the number of
single parent families and the attendant problems that this brings (Kilmartin, 1997).
An important issue for sociologists, and indeed for all of society, is why these changes in marital
patterns have occurred. In this essay I will seek to critically examine a number of sociological
explanations for the divorce phenomenon and also consider the social policy implications that each
explanation carries with it. It will be argued that the best explanations are to be found within a broad
socio economic framework.
One type of explanation for rising divorce has focused on changes in laws relating to marriage. For
example, Bilton, Bonnett and Jones (1987) argue that increased rates of divorce do not necessarily
indicate that families are now more unstable. It is possible, they claim, that there has always been a
degree of marital instability. They suggest that changes in the law have been significant, because they
have provided unhappily married couples with access to a

George Pullman s Influence On Social Darwinism
Social Darwinism is a term to describe the idea that humans compete for existence just like the rest of
the animal kingdom. Darwin used this term to attempt to rationalize racism, capitalism, and
imperialism. It simplifies the human s desire for power. Now it is widely discredited and scrutinized
because its a rejection of compassion and social responsibility. (1)
These tycoons of business figured out how to use social darwinism to their benefit. They were ruthless
in the business world but were credited for creating big business and a booming economy in the US.
The so called robber barons were nothing but businessmen who knew what they were doing and used
it to their advantage.
George Pullman was an American industrialist and inventor. His father moved buildings out of the
way of the Erie Canal. George took over the business in 1853. Later he won a contract with the state
of New York to move 20 buildings out of the way. After this he came up with the idea to manufacture
and lease railroad cars on the growing railroad industry. After being unsatisfied with sleepers and

packaging line activities could be driven up significantly. Pilla, being financially insecure, can be a
risk for the roll out schedule in case there is a problem in the manufacturing processes as it links to the

French Colonialism Unmasked By Ruth Ginio
Ruth Ginio analyzes three dramatic years in the history of French West Africa, from 1940 to 1943, in
her book, French Colonialism Unmasked: The Vichy Years in French West Africa. She examines the
Vichy regime s attempt to impose the National Revolution ideology in the region. Vichy France was
the pro Axis government headed by Marshal Philippe Pétain from 1940 to 1944 during World War II.
Pétain established an authoritarian regime that never joined the Axis alliance, though it did have
similarities to totalitarianism and fascism. Ginio argues this to be a historically divisive period in the
region by providing an in depth examination of Vichy colonial visions and practices in French West
Africa. She describes captivating encounters between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She presents distinctive arguments on how Vichy s pretense of republican colonialism and its
propaganda fall by the way side. Both change and traditional propaganda presented in the second part
were still visible; however, Ginio offers solid evidence of Vichy s rejection of racial equality or the
incorporation of sociopolitical incorporation. She argues that the administration exposed their doctrine
of absolute colonial hierarchy where earlier regime s colonial administration officials at least partially
veiled their absolute authority. She asserts that previous regime had lent energy to propaganda focused
on assimilation ideals and of raising technological and cultural levels of Africans...perhaps even
obtaining sociopolitical equality. Ultimately, however, she laments that, the Vichy colonial
administration did not see itself as in any way obligated to the discourse of republican assimilation (p
110). Ginio further argues that the Vichy Regime rejected any kind of assimilation between
colonialists and Africans completely and began to emphasize racial differences and colonial hierarchy.
The Regime, therefore had no problem implementing a policy of segregation based on race rather than
on other more blurred categorizations (p

The Wife s Lament
The two poems known as The Wife s Lament and The Lament of the Old Woman of Beare have
numerous similar qualities even though they both come from different people. The Wife s Lament is
an Old English poem that is exceptionally heavy with emotional content; it is a monologue from the
perspective of a sorrowful woman who appears to be undergoing significant sorrows due to separation
from her husband, most likely the result of exile. The other poem, The Lament of the Old Woman of
Beare, is an Irish poem with a first person narrator with the voice of a woman that discusses the
lamenting of old age. These are the rudimentary plots of the two poems, leading to the similarities that
these pieces of literature share, namely the theme of sorrows

How Did Napoleon Bonaparte Change
Napoleon has done a lot of work changing France. Napoleon has changed the military, the church,
education, and societies freedoms. Many people ask, which did he change or reform the most? Well,
Napoleon made more changes to the government than anything else. The government of France after
Napoleon was drastically different than before he gained control. The government went from a
monarchy to an empire and Napoleon ruled as the emperor. Napoleon made two parliaments, elected
officials, and on top of it all he kept himself from being removed. Education must have been important
in Napoleon s eyes because it was changed a lot also. Napoleon built an abundance of new schools for
boys called lycées intended for young men ages ten to sixteen. ... Show more content on

Napoleon s strategy was to control the bishops and if he controlled them he could control the church,
he did pick the bishops and had them approved by the pope. This may not seem like a major change
but it was important. This is one of the examples that shows how much control Napoleon had over
France. The French freedoms of society was one of the great changes that Napoleon was known for.
King Louis had absolute power and could not be removed, he had no national assembly or parliament.
Napoleon ruled as emperor and could not have his power taken away from him. Napoleon created two
national assembly or parliaments with members chosen by Napoleon, but from the candidates voted
on by the people. All men could vote, until 1804 when there were no more elections. All of the laws in
France were made by assemblies. French rights for society were changed a good bit by Napoleon. The
prison and court systems were officially different, in that you could only be put in prison after a trial
and a jail worthy charge, and everyone was officially equal. Nobles no longer had special rights that
others did not. But there were still restrictions under Napoleon s rule. Napoleon had a secret police
that could arrest people without a trial. Napoleon tried to censor and control the newspapers, and free
speech was not slowed in France or the French

Is America A Beautiful Country
Some might say that America is a beautiful country, and that it is filled with freedom and hard work,
but is it truly? After some quick research, I have come to disagree. Even though we are a powerful
country, we seem to be divided amongst our people by some particular reasons. After some further
research, I have come to conclude that these reasons are;Political problems, unhealthy food, and the
fact that other countries have what we have. You may be thinking, How would this cause someone to
leave the country, and how could some of these reasons separate us as a country? Well, I think so for
these particular reasons.
Starting off, it is a known fact that politics affect everyday life. So if you have political problems, than
it is going to have a negative impact on everyday life. Not only that, but it covers such broad aspect of
life, and will affect almost EVERY SINGLE PART OF EVERYDAY LIFE. To give an example, if
there are bias and inequality in politics, it will definitely affect the people on the other end of the
sword. Ironically, this does happen, through racism, and mistreatment of the LGBTQ s. Racism has
been a thing in America ever since our freedom from England. From American slavery to segregation,
it was almost considered edicate to dislike and mistreat blacks and mexicans. Now that segregation is
illegal, and illegal working conditions for mexican immigrants isn t as big as a problem, people think
that racism doesn t exist. Well, looking at examples through history, you can t kill a culture with laws,
and this isn t an exception. When I was ten, my youngest sister s friend s mom wouldn t allow her to
go to her party, because she was black. My older sister and father have both been called derogatory
and racist names growing up. A lady opened up her house to victims in the Las Vegas shooting to help,
but she wouldn t allow any blacks or gays. There are also countless videos online of people being
racist. Two that come to mind is when a lady wouldn t let her child be seen by a black doctor, and one
woman called a black man racist names and spit on him. An epidemic of unarmed young black males
have been getting shot and killed by police for almost no reason. The L.A riots were caused because of

How Concentration Affects a Reaction
Aim:
The aim of this experiment is to find out how concentration affects the rate of reaction between
Hydrochloric Acid and Sodium
Thiosulphate.
Introduction:
This experiment will be carried out by drawing a cross on a piece of paper and mixing hydrochloric
acid and sodium thiosulphate together to see if the cross disappears. The concentration of hydrochloric
acid would change every reaction to show that concentration effects a reaction. The time in which the
cross took to disappear would be recorded as well as the temperature at the start and end of the

The sunlight could affect the speed therefore the experiment will take place in the shade, so that
temperature shouldn t change the reaction speed, we will check by using a thermometer. Also the same
amount of hydrochloric acid and sodium thiosulphate will be mixed each time so that the
concentration changes will affect the same amount of hydrochloric acid and sodium thiosulphate. The
concentration of the hydrochloric acid will be changing each time to test if it speeds up a reaction. The
speed for the light intensity to drop by 10% will be measured after each attempt so that the affects of
concentration changes can be recorded. Each concentration will be tested three times and an average
will be worked out, to see if there were any anomalies within the experiment. If one result is out of
line with the others then that will be easily identified using graphs and tables. The concentration has
been picked so that there is a range from 0.25M to 2M, at intervals of 0.5M, 1M, 1.25M and 1.5M.
Prediction:
I predict that the higher the concentration the faster the reaction will take place meaning the light
intensity will drop by 10%. This is because the more concentrated the hydrochloric acid is the more
particles there are to collide, therefore more effective collisions to break old bonds and make new
bonds. 0.25M concentration would be the slowest reaction and 2M would be the

What do stop motion animation, creepy movies, and cult classics all have in common? They are all
examples of movies that Tim Burton has excelled in. Stop motion is the most primary form of movie

How Culture Influence Geography
Geography influences culture in many ways. A civilizations geography determines what kind of god(s)
they believe in as well as influences from other cultures. These features provide a stepping stone for
cultures that are solely based on geography.
For instance in Source C the map depicts the archipelago that is Japan. This displays how Japan relies
on nature to grow crops and other substantial food choices. The map shows why the Japanese culture
wants to preserve nature. Another representation of this is shown in Source B. The Egyptians relied
solely on the Nile for water and plant growth. This is why they devoted their god s to water and
nature. This idea is solely based on the geography of Egypt.

The Cold War Of 1945-1991
So be it
Will the United States or the Soviet Union continue propaganda or resort to an attack? Many
democracies across the world like North America, Western Europe, Japan grew in prosperity after
World War II ended. The United States became the world s wealthiest and most powerful country.
These democracies rivaled the United States economically. The United States and the Soviet Union
had many differences that didn t cause a full fled war, but a quiet, propaganda and secretive filled war
that pushed both to the edge. This was known as the Cold War of 1945 1991. The main causes of the
war were sphere of influence, Ideology, and military factors. The contradiction of who threw the first
punch still occurs today; in this case, the Soviets were most responsible for the Cold War because of
the, Iron Curtain speech, fears of the West, and the spread of communism. In conclusion, despite the
evidence that supports the United States, the Soviet Union was most responsible for the Cold War. In
the Iron Curtain Speech given by Winston Churchill gave in Fulton that describes his perspective of
how the Soviets were no longer trusted. Churchill said that Stalin hadn t fulfilled his promise to have

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Golden Parachutes
Golden parachutes get a lot of press, and they always sound like elite packages for high level
executives. Very few people get them, and very few people know how they work.

Thus both demand and supply curves are important for determining the price of a commodity.

Operations Processes And The Operations Process
Operations processes refers to the acquisition of inputs which are transformed in a business through
the addition of value into outputs of goods and services. Businesses use operational processes
involving inputs and transformation processes to increase efficiency and output. The operations
management focuses on carefully and managing processes to produce and distribute products and
services based on the nature of the business. To achieve objectives in a business, the quality of
products are monitored regularly using customer services and warranties. Both Qantas and
McDonalds, utilise operation process in order to gain maximum efficiency and productivity.
Operation processes involves inputs which act as the core of businesses providing greater utility to
customers through the addition of value. Businesses use a combination of transformed resources such
as materials, customers and information. Materials are the basic elements used in the production
process and are sourced from the supply chain which are divided into raw and intermediate materials.
In Australia, McDonalds uses locally sourced materials such as beef from Australian farmers to
produce over 400 million hamburgers. Large businesses such as McDonald s requires efficiency in
production, hence, a specialist material manager is recruited to control the flow of resources from the
initial purchasing stage to final distribution. Customers become transformed resources when their

then send it back to congress for reassessment. The framers of the constitution created a legislative
process that required each branch to contribute to the legislative process. As a result, a vetoed bill
must go through congress and the legislative process again. The bill must also receive, at minimum,
two thirds votes from the House of Representatives and the Senate before it can become an official
law. Finally, if the president does not sign nor veto a bill for ten days, excluding Sundays, it will
automatically become a law. However, in certain circumstances, the president can use a pocket veto. A
pocket veto may only be used on a bill that is proposed within the last ten days of the presidency.
When a pocket veto is used, the president does not sign or veto the bill. Rather, after ten days of no
action, the bill is automatically rejected. As Chief in Legislature, the president, in a sense, has the last
word in the legislative process.
Another important power the Chief in Legislature has is the ability to assemble a meeting with the
House of Representatives, the Senate, or both. The framers specified this role of the president in in
Article II, Section 3. Not only is the president given the authority to call a meeting with congress, he
or she is expected to do so (Kesavan Sidak, 9). In these meetings the president can discuss the state of
America, the status

Davidson Conformity
In Madness and Civilization: A History of Insanity in the Age of Reason, Michel Foucault, the French
philosopher, writes, What desire can be contrary to nature since it was given to man by nature itself .
In this quote, Foucault examines the absurd nature of human conformity to social norms. Society has a
way of creating unofficial rules and regulations for how the human race should behave and carry out
daily activities. Australian writer and traveler Robyn Davidson challenged the constraints of
conformity when she trekked 1,700 miles across the Australian desert with only four camels and a
dog. As a young, broke, inexperienced, female embarking on an extraordinarily difficult solo journey,
Davidson had all odds for success against her. From ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They do not need anything but the land to live off of, which is why they cannot understand the
western culture and their materialistic need. In the words of Davidson, [the Aboriginal people] are not
separate from the land. When they lose it, they lose themselves, their spirit, their culture...by denying
them their land, we are committing cultural and, in this case, racial genocide (171). After observing
Mr. Eddie, the Aboriginal man who accompanied Davidson for a leg of her journey, [taking] nothing
but his tin of medicines (175), Davidson learned to shed her figurative and literal burdens. After
meeting Eddie, Davidson discarded much of [her] junk...so the pack was lighter and easier to load
(175). With a newfound I only need the essentials mindset she learned from Mr. Eddie, Davidson
[began the] process of paring down possessions...until [she] had only the barest of essentials (175). By
the end of her journey, Davidson carried only a survival kit,..a filthy old sarong for hot weather and a
jumper and wooly socks for cold weather and [she] had something to sleep on and something to eat
and drink out of (259) with her. Everything she needed could be found in the desert. Before her trip,
Davidson had been sick of carrying around the self indulgent negativity which was so much the
malaise of [her] generation, [her] sex, and [her] class (37). The Aboriginals taught Davidson to defy

Theme Of Conflict In Ayn RandBy Equality 7-2521
The writing of the author s work depicts the author s purpose in the novel. With the tragic society that
Equality 7 2521 survives in, it not only proclaims the major conflicts in the story, but also passes
along Ayn Rand s writing on how it contributes to expressing the conflicts even further. The prime
conflict is individualism itself in a world that doesn t follow the philosophy of one s attributions to be
upheld. It doesn t exist because of a society that sways the course of people s lives, coming in the way
to maintain an atmosphere with no higher power than another. We are one in all and all in one. There
are no men but only the great WE, One, indivisible and forever. (Rand, 1) This is shown in the novel
because Equality 7 2521 cannot go ahead with what he wants to have for himself in life which is to be
in the Home of the Scholars but instead is assigned to become a Home Sweeper. Moreover, the style
that Ayn Rand uses in her writing gives the readers the better awareness of how strict the society is
that not even the narrator can speak and refer about himself. It is a sin for anyone to fall in love and
choose their own mate as Equality 7 2521 wants and des with Liberty 5 3000. He went to prison for
writing, doing scientific experiments inside a hidden tunnel, falling in love and most of all presenting
to the council an invention that doesn t exist in a world without advanced technology. The manner that
she uses helps to spread across the message about a society that

Bone Marrow
Bone marrow is a soft, spongy tissue responsible for producing blood cells. It contains stem cells,
which have the ability to create other diverse types of cells, either the bone marrow or any other type
of blood cell. Some types of cancer and other diseases prevent stem cells from developing normally. If
they are not normal, they will not be able to produce any blood cells. Stem cell treatments are a highly
effective alternative to treat diseases related to bone damage or deterioration.
It is of great importance for this research to cite the example of treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee
with stem cells. Faced with this issue, the regenerative therapy institute says:

If proven to be safe and effective in humans, this method that mixes stem cell therapy and genetic

Program at the Department of Surgery and the Board of Governors of the Cedars Sinai Institute of
Regenerative Medicine. We are combining an engineering approach with a biological approach to
advancing regenerative engineering, which we believe is the future of medicine, adds

Middle Colonies Expansion
I am a staff member in the Ministry for Colonial Affairs from the Middle Colonies. All of the colonies
want to expand past the Appalachian Mountains, but the French and Indians do not want us in their
land. We want to expand and are considering going to war. The Middle Colonies should expand, but
try not to cause conflict by approaching in a kind way. The colonists have some motivations to support
this plan. One motivation is that the colonists know that if something goes wrong, then the King will
help help them fix it. Although, they are spending time away from their family because they are busy
preparing for anything to happen. The Middle Colonies want to expand for some social and political
reasons. Although some is good the face challenges

Postwar Essay
Postwar In the 1950 s the number of people living in the suburbs came to actually equal the number of
people living in cities. This wave of people was due mainly to the availability of affordable housing;
which allowed middle class Americans to move to an area previously inhabited only by the wealthy.
The houses and neighborhoods built in mass numbers on assembly lines came to look identical to each
other. As a result of this, a model American life was created. People all around the country began to
follow this model, and before they knew it a race to conform had begun. People no longer strove to be
different, neither by ethnicity nor religion; they strove to be the same. David Farber, the author of The
Age Of Great Dreams, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prior to the 1950 s people of all different cultural backgrounds lived side by side in cities; the drastic
change damaged race relations forever. The gap between men and women also grew in the postwar
era. The men who returned from war were forever changed by the experiences they had there. This, as
David Farber explained, gave them something to differentiate themselves from their wives. The
women, who had held jobs while the men were away, were told to return to the home. This gave the
women something to resent the men for. The 1950 s were a difficult time for men and women due to
the large gap that had grown between them as a result of the war. The baby boom of the postwar era is
a real marvel to society for the simple reason that it has never happened before. Farber states that he is
not sure exactly why the baby boom occurred; however, he implies that there were many factors
leading to the occurrence of the phenomenon. During the 1950 s seventy percent of women were
married by the age of 24, and families were having an average of 3.8 children each. There are no
records of a baby boom after World War I, nor were there any records of a baby boom after any major
European wars. Therefore, the postwar baby boom was due to factors that had nothing to do with the
war directly. It was perhaps that America was in a state of extreme prosperity, people had money,
houses, back yards and appliances. They then felt it was a good time to settle down

Future Growth Prospects in Africa
Africa is a region that has for long been taunted as the dark continent. Years of political cynicism,
proliferation of civil wars and governance mismanagement have negated the growth and development
of the continent. However if the present positive growth patterns and future economic projections are
anything to go by then the continent is set to undergo a massive transformation by 2025. African
economies are showing impressive growth, with an average Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth
forecasted to be 6.3 % in 2013, Africa has become the fastest growing region in the world, and only a
few Asian countries will continue to grow faster than the continent s top performers. Africa`s growth
projections are premised on the backbone of an anticipated educated young population growth, rising
intra African trade, investments in public private partnerships and commodity based industrialization.
This paper gives an impetus to the future prospects of Africa by highlighting inter alia the present
growth trends and envisaged future prospects. It also analyses what still needs to be done to ensure the
envisaged growth projections are realized.
Africa`s population growth is the highest in the world and by 2025 it will be the only continent where
the youth population will expand. The projections also show that by 2035 Africa will have a larger
working population more than that of India and or China (Mo Ibrahim forum 2013). This working
population has the ability to transform the

Portfolio Assignment ITS 315: Introduction to Networks Mazen Alkhatib December 23, 2012
Network Implementation Over four months, a very short period of time, a small accounting firm grew
from five employees to fifty. The existing network architecture could no longer support the
exponential growth. Peer to Peer networks work very well in a small office environment. Once the
ratio of employees exceeds around five employees resources, file storage and a plethora of other
network disasters begin. The obvious solution was to recommend a change. As explained in the
proposal the proposed upgrade from a peer to peer network architecture to client/server was an
imminent necessity. Cable Recommendation The accounting firm ... Show more content on

Our intention is to do the aforementioned in a manner that will allow us to manage all of the files and
resources from a central location by implementing a server to our current network architecture.
Reasons to Change. In the past our peer to peer network architecture served us well by providing us
with a way to share our files and resources in a manner that did not require much planning.
Unfortunately, as a peer to peer network grows it becomes more difficult to maintain due to its lack of
centralized control which makes it un scalable. With the addition of fifty individual workstations,
security access and file storage control remains in the hands of the user. For example, should someone
decide to delete a company file, there would be no way of knowing. Once there are more than five or
six workstations attached peer to peer networks begin to pose as a security threat that may cause loss
of sensitive company data due to virus and spyware attacks. Fortunately advancements in technology
have provided a viable solution for rapidly growing small businesses such as our own called servers.
Our Viable Solution. Adding a server to our current network will allow our employees to manage,
store, send and process data from a centralized location 24 hours a day. In

The Play Distracted By Lisa Loomer Essay
The play Distracted by Lisa Loomer talks about a 9 year old boy who has trouble learning in school.
He screams at his parents and the teacher suspects the boy may have ADHD. The mom received some
advice from her friends and the psychiatrist suggests Ritalin. The father, on the other hand, disagrees.
There is a family conflict between the mom and dad. Then, in the other speaker series I attended was
Immigrant nation. It is a documentary film directed by Esau Melendaz. Its primary focus was about an
undocumented immigrant who was deported back to her country. She refused to go back and was

People of whom were from different cultures supported her. The third Speaker series, I attended, was
Working for our political environment and Personal Health by Jill Stein. There, Dr. Stein pointed the

  • 2. Analysis Of Maus And The Sandman By Neil Gainman When defining great literature, graphic novels are often the last source scholars and educators consider. In general, graphic novels are seen as low brow, mass culture entertainment or as pedagogical tools (Long 6). In recent years graphic novels have proven to be worthy of being considered great literature and valuable tools in the classroom. Comic books should not be viewed simply as aesthetic objects, but rather as texts which function when read by their audience within a specific context. Our education curriculums are heavily relied on reading comprehension, which has proven to be a struggle for visual learners. Graphic novels offer value, variety, and new medium for literacy that acknowledges the impact of visuals. Novels such as Maus by Art Spiegelman and The Sandman (vertigo) by Neil Gainman, not only appeal to visual learners, but are useful across all curriculums. Maus and The Sandman offer different style narratives and visuals that reflect the diverse nature of graphic novels. The variety in compositions between these two demonstrate the strengths of the graphic novel genre, and how they can be considered valuable sources of education. The use of word image combination allow the reader of graphic novels to experience much more than what words allot. For visual learners that struggle with reading compression, the visual components of graphic novels help portray the context in a medium that is easier for these learners to digest. We have collected data from 120 people which have contracted bank loans, by asking them to answer our questionnaire. The questionnaire consists of 15 interconnected questions we consider relevant and might help interpret the results better. In a loan, the borrower initially receives an amount of money, called the principal, from the lender, and is obligated to pay back or repay an equal amount of money to the lender at a later time. The loan is generally provided at a cost, referred to as interest on the debt, which provides an incentive for the lender to engage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [pic] 2.4. Children Children seem to play a major role in the decision of getting a bank loan of a person or couple. Out of the selected persons, only 27 did not have any children and most of them were in our youngest age group, fact that is understanble considering the implications that raising a child has. Most people had one or two children, but there were two cases in which the person had more than three children. [pic] 2.5. Education level As expected, the education level had a major impact on the number of loans accesed. The wining category was the bachelor degree one, as people from this group have a higher level of education and are prone to have better jobs, thus having more chances in receiving a loan from a bank. Furthermore, they are the ones that require more money for investments, which usually comes from banks. The sutyd revealed that 67 people with a bachelor degree had a loan, thus more than 50% of the total interviewed subjects. On the other hand, there were 23 people who had finished high school and responded positive, showing that loans for personal needs attract customers. [pic] 2.6. Profession

  • 5. The Purpose Of Public Education Public education has many purposes in contemporary society. One purpose should be to teach kids basic skills that they need throughout life; this includes basic math, reading, writing. Along with this on a broader level I believe that schools should teach children to have a growth mindset. A growth mindset is important for everyone to have throughout life as it will allow them to be more open to new experiences and it will teach them to question what they are told. The ability to question the status quo is what allows people to express themselves and their ideas, it prevents people from being oppressed. Finally I believe that public education should teach kids to be excited about learning. Kids should not dread going to school, instead it should be a positive experience and kids should understand that learning happens throughout life and does not stop after K 12 education. To instill a love for learning is to ensure that children become lifelong learners. Public schools in the US today have strikingly different purposes than these but I believe that if these were to become our purposes then we would have a more educated and more aware society. These purposes are important to students, families, and societies in multiple ways. They are important to students because it helps them grow as individuals. With a growth mindset they are able to think more critically of different situations and they are able to continue to be learners. Without this they would stay in the same ... • 6. Comparison Between Durkheim And Freud s Theory Of Religion Throughout this essay, an attempt to compare and contrast two key theorists approach to the study of religion namely Durkheim and Freud will take place. This will consist of four stages, firstly an introduction comprising of a definition of religion by Durkheim will occur. Secondly a comparison and contrast of the approaches by Freud and Durkheim to the study of religion, as well as the strength and weaknesses of these approaches and lastly a presentation of a conclusion will occur. A number of problems are often encountered when dealing with the study of religion, the foremost problem has to do with defining religion. For instance, definitions that attach and limit religion to simply a belief in God/gods tend to be vague as well as narrow and to some degree not entirely accurate. This is mainly because definitions like the one mentioned above neglect to take into account atheistic religions that do not believe in God/gods. This is illustrated in a definition provided by the oxford English dictionary, Action or conduct indicating belief in, obedience to, and reverence for a god, gods, or similar superhuman power; the performance of religious rites or observances. An alternative definition is presented in Durkheim s book, The Elementary Forms of religious life, A religion is a unified system of beliefs and practices relative to sacred things, that is to say things set apart and forbidden beliefs and practices which unite into one single moral community called a church, ... To some she may come across suicidal, to others depressed, or even philosophical to a number of readers. In her poem number 347 her depression and feelings of inadequacy are clear. In this poem Dickinson is a diva and is like any other person, scared of change; feelings that people typically get over quickly. The grass is given the human characteristics of height and growth. She gives the grass these qualities in order to make it seem like the grass is guarding her from everything else in the world. She assumes that the bees, flowers and birds are all too beautiful to be associated with her and so she must remain incognito and enshrouded by the grass. Her feelings are unreasonable as the structures that are all associated with spring are some of the most beautiful in nature, therefore her comparisons and attempts to transcend the beauty involved with nature is illogical. Dickinson tries to transcend and compare herself to the nature around her but it is not a reasonable structure to transcend and so she feels inadequate and decides to remain clandestine behind a wall of grass. Dickinson also uses the symbolism of spring to show her unreasonable feelings of inadequacy by comparing herself to and attempting to transcend it. Spring is typically seen as a time of renewal and renaissance because it is the avenue to summer where nature is full of life and growing after the winter. Alan Sears Theory And Common Sense Summary Although I was aware that sociology like the other social sciences is full of theories, I was very intrigued by the social order model and conflict model that Alan Sears presented. In the chapter, Theory and Common Sense, from the text, A Good Book, In Theory, Alan Sears begins by asserting that our thoughts and beliefs that we consider to be common sense are actually assumptions that we have unknowingly learn from institutions. Sears goes on to explain that in order to unlearn the ideas that we have adopted unconsciously, we must think critically about our common sense and look at things we already know as if for the first time (29). One example that Sears uses is the fact that we see the sun and know that the Earth is actually moving. We believe this to be the truth even though we can not fully wrap our heads arounds the phenomenon. This emphasizes our natural tendency as members of society to absorb information from those that we perceive to be more knowledgeable than us because we re taught that people in higher positions than us(i.e. teachers, government ... Of these two, my favorite surgery to observe was the breast augmentation. Reflecting on this experience, I have come to understand that many of the techniques and tools associated with these surgical procedures are closely related to principles of chemistry. In particular, aspects including the use of povidone iodine solution in surgical preparation, the materials of different implants, and the use of implant sizers especially reflect some fundamental concepts of chemistry. Hamlet, Prince Of Denmark, By William Shakespeare The famous tragedy entitled Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, often abbreviated to Hamlet and written at the turn of the seventeenth century, was the playwright William Shakespeare s longest play and among the most influential works to exist in English literature. The play dramatizes the poisonous intents of the demonically brilliant king of Denmark, Claudius, a man so driven by greed and lust for his brother s, King Hamlet s, throne, wife and supremacy that he commits the ultimate act of fratricide, consequently inheriting the primal eldest curse of Cain and Abel. His toxic act affected his relationships with numerous other characters, and eventually led to several of their demises. The thyroid gland is a butterfly shaped gland located in front of the neck, right below the larynx. The thyroid gland produces thyroid hormones, primarily T3 (thyroxine) and T4 (triiodothyronine) (NIDDK, 2013). It is very important that the body produces the appropriate amount of thyroid hormones because these hormones affect nearly every organ in the body. Thyroid surgery that involves the removal of the thyroid gland may cause hypothyroidism. Thyroid glands are surgically removed for people with cancer, certain diseases, and hyperthyroidism (NIDDK, 2013). Radiation therapy, such as radioactive iodine, gradually destroys the thyroid gland (NIDDK, 2013). With the absence of thyroid gland, this leads to hypothyroidism. • 25. Sociological Explanations For The Divorce Phenomenon A major change that has occurred in the Western family is an increased incidence in divorce. Whereas in the past, divorce was a relatively rare occurrence, in recent times it has become quite commonplace. This change is borne out clearly in census figures. For example thirty years ago in Australia, only one marriage in ten ended in divorce; nowadays the figure is more than one in three (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 1996: p.45). A consequence of this change has been a substantial increase in the number of single parent families and the attendant problems that this brings (Kilmartin, 1997). An important issue for sociologists, and indeed for all of society, is why these changes in marital patterns have occurred. In this essay I will seek to critically examine a number of sociological explanations for the divorce phenomenon and also consider the social policy implications that each explanation carries with it. It will be argued that the best explanations are to be found within a broad socio economic framework. One type of explanation for rising divorce has focused on changes in laws relating to marriage. For example, Bilton, Bonnett and Jones (1987) argue that increased rates of divorce do not necessarily indicate that families are now more unstable. It is possible, they claim, that there has always been a degree of marital instability. They suggest that changes in the law have been significant, because they have provided unhappily married couples with access to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Now it is widely discredited and scrutinized because its a rejection of compassion and social responsibility. (1) These tycoons of business figured out how to use social darwinism to their benefit. The so called robber barons were nothing but businessmen who knew what they were doing and used it to their advantage. George Pullman was an American industrialist and inventor. His father moved buildings out of the way of the Erie Canal. George took over the business in 1853. Later he won a contract with the state of New York to move 20 buildings out of the way. French Colonialism Unmasked By Ruth Ginio Ruth Ginio analyzes three dramatic years in the history of French West Africa, from 1940 to 1943, in her book, French Colonialism Unmasked: The Vichy Years in French West Africa. She examines the Vichy regime s attempt to impose the National Revolution ideology in the region. Vichy France was the pro Axis government headed by Marshal Philippe Pétain from 1940 to 1944 during World War II. Pétain established an authoritarian regime that never joined the Axis alliance, though it did have similarities to totalitarianism and fascism. She presents distinctive arguments on how Vichy s pretense of republican colonialism and its propaganda fall by the way side. Both change and traditional propaganda presented in the second part were still visible; however, Ginio offers solid evidence of Vichy s rejection of racial equality or the incorporation of sociopolitical incorporation. She argues that the administration exposed their doctrine of absolute colonial hierarchy where earlier regime s colonial administration officials at least partially veiled their absolute authority. She asserts that previous regime had lent energy to propaganda focused on assimilation ideals and of raising technological and cultural levels of Africans...perhaps even obtaining sociopolitical equality. Ultimately, however, she laments that, the Vichy colonial administration did not see itself as in any way obligated to the discourse of republican assimilation (p 110). Ginio further argues that the Vichy Regime rejected any kind of assimilation between colonialists and Africans completely and began to emphasize racial differences and colonial hierarchy. The Regime, therefore had no problem implementing a policy of segregation based on race rather than on other more blurred categorizations (p ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many people ask, which did he change or reform the most? Well, Napoleon made more changes to the government than anything else. The French freedoms of society was one of the great changes that Napoleon was known for. King Louis had absolute power and could not be removed, he had no national assembly or parliament. Napoleon ruled as emperor and could not have his power taken away from him. Napoleon created two national assembly or parliaments with members chosen by Napoleon, but from the candidates voted on by the people. After some quick research, I have come to disagree. Even though we are a powerful country, we seem to be divided amongst our people by some particular reasons. After some further research, I have come to conclude that these reasons are;Political problems, unhealthy food, and the fact that other countries have what we have. You may be thinking, How would this cause someone to leave the country, and how could some of these reasons separate us as a country? Well, I think so for these particular reasons. Starting off, it is a known fact that politics affect everyday life. So if you have political problems, than it is going to have a negative impact on everyday life. Not only that, but it covers such broad aspect of life, and will affect almost EVERY SINGLE PART OF EVERYDAY LIFE. To give an example, if there are bias and inequality in politics, it will definitely affect the people on the other end of the sword. Ironically, this does happen, through racism, and mistreatment of the LGBTQ s. Racism has been a thing in America ever since our freedom from England. From American slavery to segregation, it was almost considered edicate to dislike and mistreat blacks and mexicans. The concentration of the hydrochloric acid will be changing each time to test if it speeds up a reaction. The speed for the light intensity to drop by 10% will be measured after each attempt so that the affects of concentration changes can be recorded. The concentration has been picked so that there is a range from 0.25M to 2M, at intervals of 0.5M, 1M, 1.25M and 1.5M. Prediction: I predict that the higher the concentration the faster the reaction will take place meaning the light intensity will drop by 10%. People no longer strove to be different, neither by ethnicity nor religion; they strove to be the same. David Farber, the author of The Age Of Great Dreams, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prior to the 1950 s people of all different cultural backgrounds lived side by side in cities; the drastic change damaged race relations forever. The gap between men and women also grew in the postwar era. The men who returned from war were forever changed by the experiences they had there. This, as David Farber explained, gave them something to differentiate themselves from their wives. The women, who had held jobs while the men were away, were told to return to the home. This gave the women something to resent the men for. The 1950 s were a difficult time for men and women due to the large gap that had grown between them as a result of the war. The baby boom of the postwar era is a real marvel to society for the simple reason that it has never happened before. Farber states that he is not sure exactly why the baby boom occurred; however, he implies that there were many factors leading to the occurrence of the phenomenon. During the 1950 s seventy percent of women were married by the age of 24, and families were having an average of 3.8 children each. There are no records of a baby boom after World War I, nor were there any records of a baby boom after any major European wars. Therefore, the postwar baby boom was due to factors that had nothing to do with the war directly. It was perhaps that America was in a state of extreme prosperity, people had money, houses, back yards and appliances. They then felt it was a good time to settle down ... • 49. Future Growth Prospects in Africa Africa is a region that has for long been taunted as the dark continent. Years of political cynicism, proliferation of civil wars and governance mismanagement have negated the growth and development of the continent. However if the present positive growth patterns and future economic projections are anything to go by then the continent is set to undergo a massive transformation by 2025. African economies are showing impressive growth, with an average Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth forecasted to be 6.3 % in 2013, Africa has become the fastest growing region in the world, and only a few Asian countries will continue to grow faster than the continent s top performers. Africa`s growth projections are premised on the backbone of an anticipated educated young population growth, rising intra African trade, investments in public private partnerships and commodity based industrialization. This paper gives an impetus to the future prospects of Africa by highlighting inter alia the present growth trends and envisaged future prospects. It also analyses what still needs to be done to ensure the envisaged growth projections are realized. Africa`s population growth is the highest in the world and by 2025 it will be the only continent where the youth population will expand. The projections also show that by 2035 Africa will have a larger working population more than that of India and or China (Mo Ibrahim forum 2013). This working population has the ability to transform the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It 315 Unit 3 Assignment Portfolio Assignment ITS 315: Introduction to Networks Mazen Alkhatib December 23, 2012 Network Implementation Over four months, a very short period of time, a small accounting firm grew from five employees to fifty. The existing network architecture could no longer support the exponential growth. Peer to Peer networks work very well in a small office environment. Once the ratio of employees exceeds around five employees resources, file storage and a plethora of other network disasters begin. The obvious solution was to recommend a change. As explained in the proposal the proposed upgrade from a peer to peer network architecture to client/server was an imminent necessity. Cable Recommendation The accounting firm ... Our intention is to do the aforementioned in a manner that will allow us to manage all of the files and resources from a central location by implementing a server to our current network architecture. Reasons to Change. In the past our peer to peer network architecture served us well by providing us with a way to share our files and resources in a manner that did not require much planning. Unfortunately, as a peer to peer network grows it becomes more difficult to maintain due to its lack of centralized control which makes it un scalable. With the addition of fifty individual workstations, security access and file storage control remains in the hands of the user. For example, should someone decide to delete a company file, there would be no way of knowing. Once there are more than five or six workstations attached peer to peer networks begin to pose as a security threat that may cause loss of sensitive company data due to virus and spyware attacks. Fortunately advancements in technology have provided a viable solution for rapidly growing small businesses such as our own called servers. Our Viable Solution. Adding a server to our current network will allow our employees to manage, store, send and process data from a centralized location 24 hours a day. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Its primary focus was about an undocumented immigrant who was deported back to her country. She refused to go back and was forced to stay in an asylum or one year. As a result, she began the immigration reform movement. People of whom were from different cultures supported her. The third Speaker series, I attended, was Working for our political environment and Personal Health by Jill Stein. There, Dr. Stein pointed the dysfunctional ways of the political system. She advocated for proper attention for these problems such as: free education, healthy food and a pollution free environment. The final event was the Transformative Social Justice through Radical Science Fiction by Adrennie Brown. The speech was mainly about change that could be brought upon the world through sci fi . She talked about, social, racial and sex justice. After listening to these events, it made me realize that it s every individual responsibility to bring change to our community.
