Peasants During The High Middle Ages
Peasants in Manorial Villages vs. Townspeople. Life in the high middle ages, between 1000 and 1300
A.D., had two kinds of communities, manorial villages and towns. The major difference in these two
distinct types of communities was the freedom and rights of the people. In the manorial villages you
had lords who owned large portions of land. The vassals who entered into a military obligation with
the lords, in exchange for land and protection. Finally, serfs who were a class of people that worked
their lord s land as half slave and half freeman. Vassals were more of an employee and the serfs were
little more than a slave because they were bound to the lord s land. The serfs could not leave or do
anything without the lord s permission and most of the time they had to pay fees to be granted the
permissions they requested. In contrast the townspeople elected their officials, had freedom to choose
a careers, they move about where they liked, and could acquire training and schooling. Townspeople
were in fact free and not absolutely controlled by a lord. As for the manorial villages, the lords had all
the power and had absolute control over all the actions and work of the vassals and serfs. In manorial
villages the lords of the land would have vassals and serfs. A vassal was a voluntary obligation taken
so the vassal would be cared for. Although once one became a vassal this obligation would follow
through all the generations of the family. Serfs on the other hand

A Comparison Of White Heat And The Godfather
Almost as soon as the gangster film genre was introduced, countless outside forces began to influence
how its films were made. A large influence was the Production Code Administration, which served as
the official watchdog of the industry by setting rules for production companies and their films
(Friedman 407). Since the PCA often called for gangster protagonists to be killed under violent and
humiliating circumstances so their criminal lifestyle could not be glorified, the archetypal plot of the
gangster film genre easily shaped itself around the gangsters rise and fall (Friedman 416). However,
over time, the circumstances in how this plot line can be depicted has been challenged as the genre has
pushed into new territory. In examining two such films, White Heat and The Godfather, the ability of
the genre s archetypal plot to not only vary but to last and grow throughout history is made abundantly
clear. When White Heat was released in 1949, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film follows the story of Michael Corleone, as he becomes further and further involved in a life of
crime. While the film does depict Corleone s rise to power, the gangster s downfall is not portrayed in
the same manner as other films of years prior. The Godfather begins with Corleone as an outsider to
the criminal lifestyle, but as it continues, the character takes a turn towards the nefarious, at one point
even stating, Where does it say you can t kill a cop? (The Godfather). Though the character s actions
are initially motivated by the desire to protect his family, the end of the film indicates that Corleone
has placed his life of crime above the sacred element of family he initially set out to protect. In the
final minutes of the film, Corleone shamelessly lies to his wife before a door is symbolically shut to
block her out, demonstrating a new take on the traditional fall, which is not of the gangster, but of the

Examples Of School Demographics
The School Demographic: I did my observation in P.S./M.S. 188 The Island School. The address of
the school is 442 East Houston Street Manhattan, NY 10002. I worked with a teacher name Mrs.
Parys. I was observing room 414. This is 6th grade class. PS/MS 188 is located on Manhattan s Lower
East Side. They are school serving over 400 children Kindergarten Grade 8, who typically live in the
neighborhood surrounding the school. Their faculty is committed to helping each of their children
reach her/his full academic potential. They implement a rigorous academic program within a fully
inclusive environment, with the over arching goal of closing the achievement gap. Believing in a
strength based and multiple intelligences approach, they implement Renzulli s Schoolwide
Enrichment Model (National Research Center for Gifted Talented at UConn), and have been
designated as an SEM training site for NYC educators (teachers, principals, superintendents).

believe there were couple of reasons why the lesson failed to captivate the interest of the students. One
of the reason is because, the activity of watching a movie and answering couple questions lacked the
critical thinking process. Also, the students had to watch the same story videos from different websites
which just seemed meaningless. The materials were extremely repetitive. Throughout the lesson,
students had hard time sitting still and seem to lack interest; their heads were on the desks. Lastly,
there were no hooks in the lesson plan to captivate the students that will make them desire to learn the

Kolb s Cycle Of Experiential Learning
Kolb s Cycle of Experiential Learning
I have always believed that we learn by our own experiences. I think that this belief that I have lived
by is why I was so intrigued by this particular learning theory. I will be discussing Kolb s Cycle of
Experiential Learning. I will explain the definition of this particular type of learning style and how it
explains how as an individual one learns. I will be describing the four different stages of Kolb s
learning cycle and Kolb s four different learning styles. I will also discuss how this learning style will
essentially help me with lifelong learning beyond my BAAS degree in a personal and professional
manner.
David Kolb is an educational theorist that helped develop the Experiential Learning Model in the early
1970 s it was then published in 1984. The basic assumption for Kolb s cycle is that this type of
learning is built on the idea that a person s preference of learning can be described with two different
levels: a four stage cycle of learning and four types of learning styles. He defines that learners
experience a cycle of experiences, these experiences then lead to reflections, and we then take these
experiences and build upon them to create new experiences. In Kolb s Cycle of Experiential Learning
theory he states Learning is the process whereby knowledge is created through the transformation of
experience (Kolb, 1984, p. 38). What I enjoyed about Kolb s Cycle of Experiential Learning method is
that not only does it let one

Compare And Contrast Long Way Home And The Pedestrian By...
Future society is an extremely unpredictable subject, because people all have different views on life.
Charles G. Waugh author of the short story, Long Way Home tells a story about a caring father losing
his son, due to the world s advanced technology. On the other hand in the short story, The Pedestrian
by Ray Bradley, individuals are completely addicted to technology, allowing technology to over rule
the world and take over people s minds. Although both stories show a possible outcome of the future,
the more realistic future will most likely be The Pedestrian . As society progresses authors such as
Charles Waugh creates short stories about the advanced future. In the short story, Long Way Home a

Tommy Davis And The Baseball
For a two year span in the early 1960s, Tommy Davis was probably the best hitter in baseball. His
1962 season was one in which Tommy Davis set Dodger records that still stand. Tommy Davis had
153 runs batted in that magical campaign, the most in the National League in 25 years. It would be 34
more years before anyone in baseball would duplicate reaching the 150 RBI plateau attained by
Tommy Davis in 1962. But despite his great success at an early age, Tommy Davis wound up playing
with ten teams in eighteen years. Tommy Davis was a high school teammate of a future Basketball
Hall of Famer, Lenny Wilkins, and the six foot two Davis could have had a career in that sport. A
standout in baseball in high school, Tommy Davis was convinced by none other than Jackie Robinson
to sign with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1956. Tommy Davis was born and lived in Brooklyn, but before
he ever made the big club the Dodgers had moved west to Los Angeles. Tommy Davis won the batting
titles of the Midwest and Pacific Coast Leagues on his way up the minor league ladder. He debuted
with the Dodgers in 1959 in a one game stint as a pinch hitter. The next season, his rookie year,
Tommy Davis hit .276 in 110 games; two years later he would enjoy that monster 1962 season. In
1962, Tommy Davis compiled 230 hits, still the Dodger mark for a right handed batter. He won the
first of two consecutive batting titles with his .346 average; Tommy Davis would win it again by
batting .326 in 1963. Only Mike Piazza

Reasons of Conspiracy Essays
Reasons of Conspiracy People come up with crazy ideas all the time, many of which are torn apart by
scientific evidence. However, some ideas are crafted so precisely and detailed; they are accepted as
fact by millions of people. These alternatives to accepted history are known as Conspiracy Theories,
and the people who create them are of a special breed. It is difficult to imagine having the time and
passion to craft an alternative reason behind many of the world s events and tragedies, but these
people are born to do so. There is a specific recipe for such a person, a carefully crafted powerful
concoction that breeds the hatred for government and the quest for the truth . Such people have been
around for thousands of years, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before the discussion if furthered, it is important to lay down the basics of who really is a conspiracy
theorist. By Conspiracy Theorist , it is meant to reference a person who has spent at least ten years of
their life to the ideas which counter those of larger accepted organizations (ex: Government). These
persons must have published at least two books about their topics and must have some sort of mass
following and audience. According to PBS, a Conspiracy Theorist is: someone who postulates on the
existence of secret agreements between two or more people or government to perform unlawful acts.
(PBS: Strange Days) that definition is what will be used in conjunction with the stated qualifications
above for each person discussed in this paper. Due to the limited resources and time constraints I
cannot claim that the stated characteristics are the only factors of a conspiracy theorists. There are
many factors that influence one to become interested in devoting ones life to counter history. It is
possible to deeply research the personal background of a large number of conspiracy theorists, but due
to time and general interest, I will not be completing such a task. The ones who are discussed are those
who had readily available information/ responded to the questionnaire that was sent (a total of three
people where sent the questionnaire, two responded). There are four specific factors that are believed

Themes Of A Yellow Raft In Blue Water
In the book, A Yellow Raft in Blue Water, written by Michael Dorris, the story is told by three
different narrators at three different points in time. Rayona, a half black, half Native American teen,
Christine, the mother of Rayona, and Aunt Ida, who poses as Christine s mom but actually in reality, is
Christine s half sister. Throughout the book, there are many references towards the book s themes and
are examined and highlighted throughout the book. Family and finding your true identity are the main
themes in this book because throughout the book, Rayona s past remains a mystery to her all because
of her mother and grand mother and she is willingly desperate to find a family or other people that will
welcome her and make her feel normal. In this book, family and finding out who you really are are

The color yellow appears most at Bearpaw Lake State Park, where a yellow raft is in blue water.
Rayona feels the yellow boat as an escape from reality and feels peaceful whenever she s on it. This is
because of Ellen DeMarco. When Rayona sees Ellen for the first time, Rayona admires her because
she assumes that Ellen has a perfect life that Rayona dreams and imagines of having, even when Ellen
gets off and on the yellow raft. The yellow raft is so precious to Rayona that the yellow raft
symbolizes the life that Rayona is desperate for, but she cannot and most likely will never have. In
Christine s section, she challenged herself to cross a naturally built yellow stone bridge while she was
growing up. Unfortunately, she never was able to cross the bridge by herself and failed every time she
attempted to do so. However, Lee, posing as Christine s sister to Christine, he helps her out crossing
the bridge and achieving the goal she set for herself. From this point on, the story of her constant
failure on her own eventually leads her to a reckless and careless

Similarities Between Humanism And Italian Humanism
Humanism is a philosophical and ethical stance on the value of human beings. The idea of humanism
started around the early to mid 14th century starting with Petrarch, who is considered to most, as the
father of humanism. Petrarch s expertise in the promotion of this study earned him the name as the
first great humanist. Humanism first started to become popular in the mid 15th century though during
the Italian Renaissance due to many factors but at the same humanism was spreading all throughout
Europe and became increasingly popular in Northern Europe, but didn t spread as fast. With
humanism spreading around in different areas of the world it was safe to assume that the teachings and

making it seem like anything you do, even immoral, is justifiable if the end goal is worth it.
Machiavelli writes He who neglects what is done for what ought to be done, sooner effects his ruin

survival and glory. This book follows the ideals of Italian humanism from the author being from

Tell him he can have my title, but I want it back in the morning. Jack Dempsey was a professional
American boxer who competed from 1914 to 1927. Through hard work he reached the status of heavy
weight champion and impacted the future of boxing.
According to the article Jack Dempsey Biography, Born William Harrison Dempsey on June 24, 1895,
in Manassa, Colorado, Jack Dempsey s parents, Hyrum and Celia Dempsey, were originally from
West Virginia, where his father had worked as a schoolteacher (Biography.com Editors, The

soon after they moved to a small mormon village in the state of Colorado named Manassa, which is
where Dempsey was born. Dempsey s family had to frequently move around Colorado, as his father
and two older brothers became miners. Jack started working at age eight as a farmhand, cowboy, and
miner to try support his struggling family. Bernie, Dempsey s older brother, earned extra money from
prize fighting at saloons, and according to the site, It was Bernie who taught young Jack how to fight,

Enhancement of the conductivity and dielectric properties of PVA/Ag nanocomposite films using Ī³
irradiation.

Physics Department, Faculty of Science, Suez Canal University, Ismailia, Egypt
Abstract
The influence of gamma irradiation on the electrical and dielectric properties of AgNO3/ PVA films
was investigated. The films were prepared by in situ chemical reduction techniques, then irradiated
with different gamma doses (25, 50, 75, 100, 125 KGy). The content of the Ag in the PVA film were
determined by using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AA), and were found to be 0.4 wt %. The films
have been characterized through dielectric spectroscopy and I V measurements. As a result, the
dielectric constant (Īµ) value decreases as the gamma irradiation doses increase. The conductivity of the
films and dielectric loss (tan Ī“) of increases with increasing the gamma irradiation doses. The
conductivity was found (Ļƒ = 4.9 x10āˆ’8 S māˆ’1) for 125 KGy. Frank poole emission is the prevailing
transport mechanism for all samples.

Psychoactive Drugs And Its Effects On The Uk
Background
Psychoactive drugs can be defined as any chemical substance, whether it be of a synthetic or of an
organic nature, used with the purpose of altering an individual s psychological state of mind, mood or
perception (Gossop, 1993, cited in Saggers Gray, 1998). According to Fleckenstein, Hanson Venturelli
(2014), drugs are allocated into two categories consisting of illegal and legal. Illegal drugs usually
consist of hallucinogenic substances such as marijuana (however, can be used for medical reasons),
crack cocaine, ecstasy and others. The law prohibits use of these substances and can also result in
social stigma. On the other hand, legal drugs consist of substances such as coffee, alcohol, tobacco
and over the counter (OTC) drugs, to a high extent these drugs are usually socially accepted and the
effects are inconspicuous if used in moderation.
Statistics of drug use amongst youth in the UK
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NHI) (2012a), deaths regarding drug use has
doubled since the 1980 s, furthermore it is stated that there are more illnesses and disabilities from
drug abuse than any other avoidable health condition. There are many reasons why young people may
choose to indulge in the risky behaviour that is drug use. Individuals may feel pressured by their peers,
take this action out of curiosity or use it as a method for dealing with physiological or psychological
problems (Better Health, 2012). A study performed by Miller and Plant

The Impact Of Native Americans In The Novel Solar Storms
It is obvious that Americans have had an impact on Native American cultures, but most people do not
realize the true extent of the matter. Many Native Americans lives have changed drastically because of
the careless actions of the Americans and the American government. The novel Solar Storms shows
that Native Americans have experienced only negative influence from Americans. In the novel,
American colonization and industrialization threatens Angel and her family s way of life by
threatening to destroy their surrounding land and nature. This has the most effect on the Native

The Americans actions not only altered the land, but also people s lives, leaving many people without
a home. When Angel is at Adam s Rib, the American government does not require the permission of
the Native Americans for people to take or alter the land they live on. Angel takes notice that, Without
permission, roads had been built (58). In Angel s tribe, the people are unaware of the construction of
new dams until some random men make their way to Adam s Rib to warn the people. Because of this,
the native people were left no choice but to protest against the construction, even though there was
little hope. After one of the workers speaks, Angel says that, his words made clear that if the
corporation and government had their ways, the Indian people had no say on this matter, no power to
reverse what had already been decided by men with other ways (279). After protesting for a while, the

A recent documentary, The Last Colony, about the relationship between Puerto Rico and the US
involved several Puerto Rican politicians who gave their opinion on the matter. Kenneth D.
McClintock, Secretary of State of Puerto Rico and a firm believer of statehood, stated that Statehood
is the only antidote for what ails Puerto Rico (Marquez). This is an example of people who firmly
believe Puerto Ricans are Americans and we re on a path to becoming a real American. On the other

Figurative Language In The Chocolate War By Robert Cormier
In the novel The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier, the characters are over exaggerated, to state a
clear point that this is not a normal story. The story does not follow a regular story line, but one that
Robert Cormier decides is fit in his mind and he over exaggerates it aswell for an effect to state his
point that, not every time you disturb the universe something good comes out.
Robert Cormier wanted the characters be different, he did not make them how others wanted, being
socially acceptable, he wrote the book how he thought it should have went in his mind, and doing so
he gave the readers some new to read not just the everyday novel. Cormier gives the reader many
examples of figurative language to express the real meaning of the story for example, Caroni watched
the chalk in Brother Leon s hands, the way the teacher pressed it, rolled it, his fingers like the legs of
spiders with a victim in their clutch. (90) In this quote Cormier gives a similar to exaggerate about
how Brother Leon was holding the chalk in his hands. It sends a powerful message to the reader that
Brother Leon is a horrible man, who had no mercy and he is seen by others as a powerful
administrator in the school using quid pro quo in his own evil type of way. Cormier also uses more
figurative language to give a specific emotion that Cormier was trying to express throughout his
novel, that not every time someone disturbs the universe something good comes out of it. What
happened with Renault was bad enough, but there was violence in the air. (209) This quote is the the
example that even though Renault did disturb the universe and did try to stop the chocolate sale, he
failed and something bad happened to him for trying. In the end Jerry s attempts to stop the chocolate
sales failed, and still there was still violence in the air meaning the enemy he tried to defeat was angry,
but still undefeated. And many readers dislike Cormiers way to end the book in a way that the hero
does not defeat the villain(s). Like Richard Peck said The young will understand the outcome. They
won t like it but they ll understand. (10) And this is exactly what Cormier had in mind when he was
writing the book, that the readers wouldn t like the ending, but

Socio Technical System
Socio technical systems theory: an intervention strategy for organizational development
Steven H. Appelbaum Professor of Management, Faculty of Commerce Administration, Concordia
University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Integrating organizational development (OD) and technological intervention into a total system is one
of the more difficult tasks for an executive or consultant to execute. Organizations are profoundly
affected by technological advancements and require a ļ¬‚exible customized change model to ļ¬t the
social network of the speciļ¬c organization into which technology is being introduced. Examines socio
technical systems (STS) theory and presents classical organization theories of Burns and Stalker,

226]. After analysing the speciļ¬c situation in any given organization, the organizational development
consultant can determine that some or all elements of a traditional model may be useful for the
organization in question [1, p. 41]. STS theory is probably the most extensive body of conceptual and
empirical work underlying employee involvement and work design applications today Originally
devel. oped at the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations in London, this approach to designing work
has spread to most industrialized nations in a relatively short period of time. In Europe and
particularly Scandinavia, STS theory is almost synonymous with work design and employee
involvement. In Canada and the USA, STS theory has become the major underpinning of efforts
involving work design. Cincinnati Milacron, Amoco, USAA, Stanley Works, General Electric, and
Caterpillar are among many organizations using STS theory to design work[3, p. 352]. Over 30 years
ago, the early contributions to socio technical theory by Emery and Trist or by Chern s included
approaches to design of jobs and work systems. More recently, there seems to be frequent reference to
STS, given the inevitable inļ¬ltration of technology into organizations in all industries. Often though,
STS approaches appear to be fragmentary and only loosely reminiscent of the original theory The
techniques used in socio.

Essay On Strength Training
The purpose of the study is to examine the effect of strength training exercises for the trunk and lower
extremity on strength, balance, and motor function in children with spastic diplegia cerebral palsy
(CP). The study applies to my intervention because I want to work on strengthening the trunk muscles
to increase core stability.
The study design of the research is a randomized controlled trial. It is appropriate for the study
question because it compared children who received strength training in the experimental group to
children who received conventional physical therapy treatment in the control group. Hence, the
outcome demonstrates whether strength training is more beneficial in improving strength, balance, and

group received 6 weeks of strength training exercises and the control group received 6 weeks of
conventional intervention. Before the start of the intervention, general assessment of strength, balance,
and gross motor function was conducted by a qualified physical therapist. The experimental group
completed intensive strength training with progressive resisted exercises in different workstations. The
exercises were performed three times per week and each session lasted between 60 90 minutes. The
experimental group also received conventional physiotherapy treatment 1 2 days a week. In contrast,
the control group only received conventional physiotherapy treatment 3 5 sessions per week, with
each session lasting between 60 90 minutes. The conventional physiotherapy treatment included range
of motion and stretching exercise, mobility training, movement transitions, positioning or prescription
of adaptive devices, gait training, and functional activities.
There was a significant increase in strength in all the tested muscle groups for the experimental group
while only some muscle groups increased in strength for the control group. Increase in balance was
also noted when assessed with the PBS for the experimental group. Significant differences were

Executive Branch Of Government Power
For years, America has been considered a country of freedom and liberty. The founding fathers
intended this country to be established under good intentions. As stated in the Preamble of the U.S.
Constitution, We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union... Many
Americans may stumble upon the question, Are we a more perfect Union? .
I believe that the general structure of a country plays a significant role in the overall adequacy. The
United States Government runs under a system called checks and balances. This is the coordination
between the three branches of government executive, legislative, and judicial. So far, it has proved to
be an efficient way to organize and regulate each position.
Separation of power allows each branch of government to do its role while rectifying and improving
each other branch in the process. This is in order that each branch has equal power and there is no
branch with more or less power than another. The executive branch consists of the President and
various departments and agencies. This branch is responsible for enforcing laws. The legislative
branch is made up of the House and Senate. Among other things, the legislative branch makes laws,
declares war, regulates interstate and foreign commerce and controls taxing and spending policies. The

Hills Like White Elephants Literary Analysis
Hills Like White Elephants
Luke Wakumoto
In Ernest Hemingway s short story Hills Like White Elephants, a couple discusses whether or not the
woman should have an abortion. In the story, the couple s final decision was left ambiguous. Though
there are many theories about the outcome, it can be inferred that the couple did not have the abortion
because the man left his baggage near the delta, the couple ordered Anis del Toro in a bar, and Ernest
Hemingway s stories often parallel his life experiences. The man throughout the short story is shown
moving his bags. Assuming the bags are a metaphor for the man s life, this movement could symbolize
indecision, mirroring Ernest Hemingway s indecision regarding his own children. The man and
woman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
( across, on the other side, were fields of grain and trees along the banks of the Ebro (Hemingway, 5))
The baggage acted as a symbol for the man s choice. At the beginning, the baggage is near the
desolate land (symbolizing getting an abortion), but is then carried to the fertile land (symbolizing
keeping the baby). After the man and woman enter the bar, the man orders an Anis Del Toro. When the
bartender asks the man if he wants the drink with water, the man responds Yes, with water.
(Hemingway, 2) In Spanish, Anis Del Toro means Seed of the Bull. The water, which was ordered
with the Anis Del Toro, symbolizes the water needed to grow a seed. The drink with the water
symbolizes the baby being born and growing as a seed would. As the man and women are sitting in
the bar, the man mentions that the train is coming in five minutes. (Hemingway, 7) The train arriving
and soon to be leaving the station parallels Ernest Hemingway s history of leaving his wives. In
addition, just like the man in the story, although Hemingway did not want any children, he never
forced his wives to have an abortion. So the couple in Hills Like White Elephants let the unborn child
live, as evidenced by the location that the man put his baggage, the drink that he ordered, and

Essay On Investment Management Versus Stockbrokers
The investment services industry can be daunting and ambiguous for individuals who seek a return on
their capital. After working hard earning your wealth, it is important to understand the different
services offered by professionals and what solutions fit you personally. One of the main questions we
get asked here is: What is the difference between investment management and stockbrokers? Firstly,
let s discuss what stockbrokers are we all have a much better, clearer, idea of what they do and who
they represent. Stockbrokers are regulated firms that offer financial advice to their clients. A
stockbroker buys and sells equities and other securities like bonds, CFDs, Futures and Options on
behalf of their clients in return for a fee or commission. A brokerage / stockbroker will receive a fee
on each transaction, whether the idea is profitable or not. A brokerage can specialise in any investment
niche they wish for example: FTSE All Share stocks, AIM stocks, European Stocks, Asian Stocks, US
Stocks Combinations of the above Straight equities, Straight derivative trading (CFDs, Futures
Options) The main reason why investors choose stockbrokers over any other professional investment
service is simply down to control. Due to the nature of a brokerage firm, they can only execute a trade
after you instruct them to do so. This means it is impossible for a brokerage to keep buying and selling
securities without you knowing known as churning for commission. This doesn t

The Impact of Emmett Till s Death Essay
On August 28th, 1955. A young, African American, fourteen year old boy, Emmett Louis Bobo Till,
was murdered in Money, Mississippi after flirting with a white woman ( Emmett Till , 2014). Emmett
Till s story brought attention to the racism still prevalent in the south in 1955, even after attempts
nationwide to desegregate and become equal. Emmett s harsh murder and unfair trial brought light
into the darkness and inequality that dominated the south during the civil rights movement. Emmett s
life was proof that African American s were equal to whites and that all people were capable of
becoming educated and successful even through difficulties. Emmett s death had an even greater

The controversy could be found across the nation, but the north was less subject to the intense racism
that was still found and fought for in the south. This change in environment and lifestyle in the
northern city of Chicago allowed Emmett Till to interact with white men and women regularly and
primarily freely. Desegregation became familiar to Emmett, and he became comfortable to speak more
freely than he had in his earlier years, regardless of race. ( Emmett Till , 2014)
In 1955 Emmett planned to visit family in Money, Mississippi ( The death of , n.d.). The trip was
scheduled for August 20th and Emmett was going to stay with his great uncle Moses Wright ( The
death of , n.d.). As J. Williams writes in a book about Emmett s life, the day before Emmett left for his
trip Mamie Till, Emmett s mother, gave him the ring from his father, inscribed with his father s
initials, L.T. (1987). After a day long train ride Emmett arrived in Mississippi and joined his great
uncle and friends to begin his visit to the south. A few days after his arrival, Emmett went with friends
to a local grocery store where they spent time relaxing after picking cotton during the day. To the
disbelief of his friends, Emmett bragged that his girlfriend at home was a white girl. Emmett was a
comical young man and a rambunctious teenager, who when dared

Summary Of Jules Verne s France

PLACEHOLDER TITLE
Jules Verne, of France, was a prominent author who produced over 60 novels along with multiple
plays and short stories. Verne was born in February of 1828, amidst the Industrial Revolution, in a port
city called Nantes. An environment like this undoubtedly helped to spark Verne s near unquenchable
desire for adventure and travel, a key component of his life until its end in 1905. However, Jules Verne
experienced his share of bumps and potholes on his road to glory. Verne had moved to Paris to get a
degree in law, but shortly after he ended up working in the arts even with pressure from his parents to
continue his studies. With that door eventually closing Verne took up a job as a secretary and even a
stockbroker to support himself and his family. Finally finding a stable position, Verne and his wife
took roughly 20 trips to the British Isles, which ended up as a solid source for writing material. Verne
s thirst for adventure reached the point where he bought his own boat, drawing on his travels all the
way from British Isles to the Mediterranean to create more novels. The novels known as Journey to
the Center of the Earth and From the Earth to the Moon were influenced by Verne s experiences and
travels. Other titles such as Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea and Around the World in Eighty
Days added to Verne s prestige. The pinnacle of his fame is tied to his main series of novels, the 54

Acts Of Terrorism And Political Terrorism
Acts of terror and political violence are inevitably one in the same. Terrorism requires violence
towards non combatants with a goal derived from a social or political view differing from the target of
interest. It also pertains to violence or acts of terror committed to achieve a political goal. Political
violence is described as violence perpetrated by either persons or governments to achieve political
goals. These definitions are one in the same. However, what they don t include is the use of
symbolism behind their malevolent acts. Symbolism introduces itself when the use of propaganda
campaigns and statements is utilized to critically convey the righteousness and benevolence of the
terrorist. The symbolic value of targets also distinguishes terrorism from other simple acts of extreme
violence. Another seldom thought component behind terrorism is that these acts seek to inflict
psychological damage rather than demolish its material or ability to fight (Matusitz). Terrorism
exploits symbolism by using it to push an extremist agenda, commit graves acts of terror and
strategically target items or people of interest. Terrorism uses symbolism in many dissimilar ways.
The most basic of ways are established terror groups adopting symbols and flags and associating them
with the noble causes for the public. Most extremist groups incorporate nationalist workings like
national colors, emblems or historic insurrectionary symbols to sympathize with the masses and

According to Paul Gil an antivirus is protective software designed to defend your computer against
malicious software Malicious software, or malware includes: viruses, Rats, Trojans, dialers, hijackers,
keyloggers, and other bad code that vandalizes or steals your computer contents.(Gil 1) In practice to
have a strong defense, your antivirus software needs to run in the background at all times, scanning
and searching for malicious code and should be kept updated so it recognizes new versions of
malicious software.(Kishore 1) A variety of strategies are typically used to detect a malicious program.
Signature based detection uses searching for known shifts or shreds of data within executable code.
(Kishore 2) However, Viruses have become more complex .It is possible for a computer to be infected
with new malware for which no signature is yet known; and malware is often modified to change its
signature without affecting functionality.(Kishore 2) To counter such so called zero day threats,
heuristics can be used. New types of techniques have been make to solve this issue. One type of
heuristics, generic signatures, can identify differences by looking for slight variations of known
malicious code in files. (Gil 1) These are some more of the advanced antiviruses. Some antivirus

Dawes Severalty Argumentative Essay
With the prospect of expanding further west, many Americans were interested in gaining authority
over lands occupied by the Native American people. Prior to the Dawes Severalty Act, each tribe had
communally owned land. Dawes Severalty Act made it law that Native American owned land was in
fact American land and that individual Natives owned a portion of their own land. This benefit was in
exchange of two features. Firstly, Native Americans were granted citizenship from the United States
of America. Secondly, the Native American people effectively have up an integral part of their culture:
community. In splitting the Native lands into smaller native lands, the U.S. was able to further its
goals. But, more than simply owning land was required for citizenship. Native Americans also had to

Americans language was a success. Consequences of this, however, included alienation from their

When preparing for this big event, there are certain rituals performed. Some rituals include pre game
talk from sport anchors, buying of apparel, and Super Bowl parties. Sport Anchors go all day
discussing other teams that had chances to make it, but most importantly they discuss the two teams
playing, their key players, and players that once played for them. At this point, the sport anchors are
getting everyone involved with the history of the teams as well as current information about the teams
and players to remind fans and viewers. One thing that stood out to me about the preparation of the
Super Bowl and the sport anchors were the discussion of Stuart Scott. Stuart Scott was a well known
sport anchor that recently died of cancer. They brought him up and became emotional because of his
debt to society, sport, and the cultural of the sport. He was an inspiration to individuals who didn t
engage or watch sport on the regular. Even some of the players of the Super Bowl teams discussed
how much he had impacted their lives. This shows another level of cultural unity among players and
individuals who analyze the sport. Fans are also getting involved by pulling from their closets
throwback Jerseys and current player jerseys that contain players of them team they adore. Another
activity that everyone can partake in that is performed often are Super Bowl parties. Individuals get
together to watch the game and eat typical food such as wings, chips dip, and drinking beer. Those
particular rituals are what brings society together to come and watch the big game. Rituals that bring
cultures and people from all walks of life together through the avenue of sports. Sports is one of the

  • 2. Peasants During The High Middle Ages Peasants in Manorial Villages vs. Townspeople. Life in the high middle ages, between 1000 and 1300 A.D., had two kinds of communities, manorial villages and towns. The major difference in these two distinct types of communities was the freedom and rights of the people. In the manorial villages you had lords who owned large portions of land. The vassals who entered into a military obligation with the lords, in exchange for land and protection. Finally, serfs who were a class of people that worked their lord s land as half slave and half freeman. Vassals were more of an employee and the serfs were little more than a slave because they were bound to the lord s land. The serfs could not leave or do anything without the lord s permission and most of the time they had to pay fees to be granted the permissions they requested. In contrast the townspeople elected their officials, had freedom to choose a careers, they move about where they liked, and could acquire training and schooling. Townspeople were in fact free and not absolutely controlled by a lord. As for the manorial villages, the lords had all the power and had absolute control over all the actions and work of the vassals and serfs. In manorial villages the lords of the land would have vassals and serfs. A vassal was a voluntary obligation taken so the vassal would be cared for. Although once one became a vassal this obligation would follow through all the generations of the family. Serfs on the other hand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Comparison Of White Heat And The Godfather Almost as soon as the gangster film genre was introduced, countless outside forces began to influence how its films were made. A large influence was the Production Code Administration, which served as the official watchdog of the industry by setting rules for production companies and their films (Friedman 407). Since the PCA often called for gangster protagonists to be killed under violent and humiliating circumstances so their criminal lifestyle could not be glorified, the archetypal plot of the gangster film genre easily shaped itself around the gangsters rise and fall (Friedman 416). However, over time, the circumstances in how this plot line can be depicted has been challenged as the genre has pushed into new territory. In examining two such films, White Heat and The Godfather, the ability of the genre s archetypal plot to not only vary but to last and grow throughout history is made abundantly clear. When White Heat was released in 1949, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The film follows the story of Michael Corleone, as he becomes further and further involved in a life of crime. While the film does depict Corleone s rise to power, the gangster s downfall is not portrayed in the same manner as other films of years prior. The Godfather begins with Corleone as an outsider to the criminal lifestyle, but as it continues, the character takes a turn towards the nefarious, at one point even stating, Where does it say you can t kill a cop? (The Godfather). Though the character s actions are initially motivated by the desire to protect his family, the end of the film indicates that Corleone has placed his life of crime above the sacred element of family he initially set out to protect. In the final minutes of the film, Corleone shamelessly lies to his wife before a door is symbolically shut to block her out, demonstrating a new take on the traditional fall, which is not of the gangster, but of the ... I worked with a teacher name Mrs. Parys. I was observing room 414. This is 6th grade class. PS/MS 188 is located on Manhattan s Lower East Side. They are school serving over 400 children Kindergarten Grade 8, who typically live in the neighborhood surrounding the school. Their faculty is committed to helping each of their children reach her/his full academic potential. They implement a rigorous academic program within a fully inclusive environment, with the over arching goal of closing the achievement gap. Believing in a strength based and multiple intelligences approach, they implement Renzulli s Schoolwide Enrichment Model (National Research Center for Gifted Talented at UConn), and have been designated as an SEM training site for NYC educators (teachers, principals, superintendents). The Classroom Layout: The class I observe is called World Humanity class. In this class students learn Social Study and Literacy together. I observed that the students were finding themselves hard to concentrate on the lesson plan and I believe there were couple of reasons why the lesson failed to captivate the interest of the students. One of the reason is because, the activity of watching a movie and answering couple questions lacked the critical thinking process. Also, the students had to watch the same story videos from different websites which just seemed meaningless. The materials were extremely repetitive. Throughout the lesson, students had hard time sitting still and seem to lack interest; their heads were on the desks. Lastly, there were no hooks in the lesson plan to captivate the students that will make them desire to learn the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Kolb s Cycle Of Experiential Learning Kolb s Cycle of Experiential Learning I have always believed that we learn by our own experiences. I think that this belief that I have lived by is why I was so intrigued by this particular learning theory. I will be discussing Kolb s Cycle of Experiential Learning. I will explain the definition of this particular type of learning style and how it explains how as an individual one learns. I will be describing the four different stages of Kolb s learning cycle and Kolb s four different learning styles. I will also discuss how this learning style will essentially help me with lifelong learning beyond my BAAS degree in a personal and professional manner. David Kolb is an educational theorist that helped develop the Experiential Learning Model in the early 1970 s it was then published in 1984. The basic assumption for Kolb s cycle is that this type of learning is built on the idea that a person s preference of learning can be described with two different levels: a four stage cycle of learning and four types of learning styles. He defines that learners experience a cycle of experiences, these experiences then lead to reflections, and we then take these experiences and build upon them to create new experiences. In Kolb s Cycle of Experiential Learning theory he states Learning is the process whereby knowledge is created through the transformation of experience (Kolb, 1984, p. 38). What I enjoyed about Kolb s Cycle of Experiential Learning method is that not only does it let one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Compare And Contrast Long Way Home And The Pedestrian By... Future society is an extremely unpredictable subject, because people all have different views on life. Charles G. Waugh author of the short story, Long Way Home tells a story about a caring father losing his son, due to the world s advanced technology. On the other hand in the short story, The Pedestrian by Ray Bradley, individuals are completely addicted to technology, allowing technology to over rule the world and take over people s minds. Although both stories show a possible outcome of the future, the more realistic future will most likely be The Pedestrian . As society progresses authors such as Charles Waugh creates short stories about the advanced future. In the short story, Long Way Home a young boy, Jack, decides to go on a mission into space, because when he was younger his parents bought ... Coats states, Today, most people in the United States carry a mobile phone that accompanies them wherever they go. We use them for everything...This essentially makes them the perfect tracking and bugging devices . Although electronic devices are known to be safe, they allow outside people to figure out individuals personal life. Due to the need for devices such as cell phones, each individual has a high chance of being socially stalked once in their lifetime. Coats then states, Not only do intelligence agencies gather information via mobile companies, but... your phone can be hacked using spyware. Even if your phone is turned off, it can be remotely accessed to recorded conversations and take photographs . This issue causes a panic due to the wide spread of inappropriate pictures and private conversations in one s life. • 7. Tommy Davis And The Baseball For a two year span in the early 1960s, Tommy Davis was probably the best hitter in baseball. His 1962 season was one in which Tommy Davis set Dodger records that still stand. Tommy Davis had 153 runs batted in that magical campaign, the most in the National League in 25 years. It would be 34 more years before anyone in baseball would duplicate reaching the 150 RBI plateau attained by Tommy Davis in 1962. But despite his great success at an early age, Tommy Davis wound up playing with ten teams in eighteen years. Tommy Davis was a high school teammate of a future Basketball Hall of Famer, Lenny Wilkins, and the six foot two Davis could have had a career in that sport. A standout in baseball in high school, Tommy Davis was convinced by none other than Jackie Robinson to sign with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1956. Tommy Davis was born and lived in Brooklyn, but before he ever made the big club the Dodgers had moved west to Los Angeles. Tommy Davis won the batting titles of the Midwest and Pacific Coast Leagues on his way up the minor league ladder. He debuted with the Dodgers in 1959 in a one game stint as a pinch hitter. The next season, his rookie year, Tommy Davis hit .276 in 110 games; two years later he would enjoy that monster 1962 season. In 1962, Tommy Davis compiled 230 hits, still the Dodger mark for a right handed batter. El Shamy * Physics Department, Faculty of Science, Suez Canal University, Ismailia, Egypt Abstract The influence of gamma irradiation on the electrical and dielectric properties of AgNO3/ PVA films was investigated. The films were prepared by in situ chemical reduction techniques, then irradiated with different gamma doses (25, 50, 75, 100, 125 KGy). The content of the Ag in the PVA film were determined by using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AA), and were found to be 0.4 wt %. The films have been characterized through dielectric spectroscopy and I V measurements. As a result, the dielectric constant (Īµ) value decreases as the gamma irradiation doses increase. The conductivity of the films and dielectric loss (tan Ī“) of increases with increasing the gamma irradiation doses. The conductivity was found (Ļƒ = 4.9 x10āˆ’8 S māˆ’1) for 125 KGy. Psychoactive Drugs And Its Effects On The Uk Background Psychoactive drugs can be defined as any chemical substance, whether it be of a synthetic or of an organic nature, used with the purpose of altering an individual s psychological state of mind, mood or perception (Gossop, 1993, cited in Saggers Gray, 1998). According to Fleckenstein, Hanson Venturelli (2014), drugs are allocated into two categories consisting of illegal and legal. Illegal drugs usually consist of hallucinogenic substances such as marijuana (however, can be used for medical reasons), crack cocaine, ecstasy and others. The law prohibits use of these substances and can also result in social stigma. On the other hand, legal drugs consist of substances such as coffee, alcohol, tobacco and over the counter (OTC) drugs, to a high extent these drugs are usually socially accepted and the effects are inconspicuous if used in moderation. Statistics of drug use amongst youth in the UK According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NHI) (2012a), deaths regarding drug use has doubled since the 1980 s, furthermore it is stated that there are more illnesses and disabilities from drug abuse than any other avoidable health condition. There are many reasons why young people may choose to indulge in the risky behaviour that is drug use. • 21. Figurative Language In The Chocolate War By Robert Cormier In the novel The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier, the characters are over exaggerated, to state a clear point that this is not a normal story. The story does not follow a regular story line, but one that Robert Cormier decides is fit in his mind and he over exaggerates it aswell for an effect to state his point that, not every time you disturb the universe something good comes out. Robert Cormier wanted the characters be different, he did not make them how others wanted, being socially acceptable, he wrote the book how he thought it should have went in his mind, and doing so he gave the readers some new to read not just the everyday novel. Cormier gives the reader many examples of figurative language to express the real meaning of the story for example, Caroni watched the chalk in Brother Leon s hands, the way the teacher pressed it, rolled it, his fingers like the legs of spiders with a victim in their clutch. (90) In this quote Cormier gives a similar to exaggerate about how Brother Leon was holding the chalk in his hands. It sends a powerful message to the reader that Brother Leon is a horrible man, who had no mercy and he is seen by others as a powerful administrator in the school using quid pro quo in his own evil type of way. Cormier also uses more figurative language to give a specific emotion that Cormier was trying to express throughout his novel, that not every time someone disturbs the universe something good comes out of it. What happened with Renault was bad enough, but there was violence in the air. (209) This quote is the the example that even though Renault did disturb the universe and did try to stop the chocolate sale, he failed and something bad happened to him for trying. In the end Jerry s attempts to stop the chocolate sales failed, and still there was still violence in the air meaning the enemy he tried to defeat was angry, but still undefeated. And many readers dislike Cormiers way to end the book in a way that the hero does not defeat the villain(s). Like Richard Peck said The young will understand the outcome. They won t like it but they ll understand. (10) And this is exactly what Cormier had in mind when he was writing the book, that the readers wouldn t like the ending, but ... After working hard earning your wealth, it is important to understand the different services offered by professionals and what solutions fit you personally. One of the main questions we get asked here is: What is the difference between investment management and stockbrokers? Firstly, let s discuss what stockbrokers are we all have a much better, clearer, idea of what they do and who they represent. Stockbrokers are regulated firms that offer financial advice to their clients. A stockbroker buys and sells equities and other securities like bonds, CFDs, Futures and Options on behalf of their clients in return for a fee or commission. A brokerage / stockbroker will receive a fee on each transaction, whether the idea is profitable or not. A brokerage can specialise in any investment niche they wish for example: FTSE All Share stocks, AIM stocks, European Stocks, Asian Stocks, US Stocks Combinations of the above Straight equities, Straight derivative trading (CFDs, Futures Options) The main reason why investors choose stockbrokers over any other professional investment service is simply down to control. This change in environment and lifestyle in the northern city of Chicago allowed Emmett Till to interact with white men and women regularly and primarily freely. Desegregation became familiar to Emmett, and he became comfortable to speak more freely than he had in his earlier years, regardless of race. ( Emmett Till , 2014) In 1955 Emmett planned to visit family in Money, Mississippi ( The death of , n.d.). The trip was scheduled for August 20th and Emmett was going to stay with his great uncle Moses Wright ( The death of , n.d.). As J. Williams writes in a book about Emmett s life, the day before Emmett left for his trip Mamie Till, Emmett s mother, gave him the ring from his father, inscribed with his father s initials, L.T. (1987). After a day long train ride Emmett arrived in Mississippi and joined his great uncle and friends to begin his visit to the south. A few days after his arrival, Emmett went with friends to a local grocery store where they spent time relaxing after picking cotton during the day. Verne was born in February of 1828, amidst the Industrial Revolution, in a port city called Nantes. An environment like this undoubtedly helped to spark Verne s near unquenchable desire for adventure and travel, a key component of his life until its end in 1905. However, Jules Verne experienced his share of bumps and potholes on his road to glory. Verne had moved to Paris to get a degree in law, but shortly after he ended up working in the arts even with pressure from his parents to continue his studies. Verne s thirst for adventure reached the point where he bought his own boat, drawing on his travels all the way from British Isles to the Mediterranean to create more novels. The novels known as Journey to the Center of the Earth and From the Earth to the Moon were influenced by Verne s experiences and travels. Terrorism requires violence towards non combatants with a goal derived from a social or political view differing from the target of interest. It also pertains to violence or acts of terror committed to achieve a political goal. Political violence is described as violence perpetrated by either persons or governments to achieve political goals. These definitions are one in the same. However, what they don t include is the use of symbolism behind their malevolent acts. Symbolism introduces itself when the use of propaganda campaigns and statements is utilized to critically convey the righteousness and benevolence of the terrorist. The symbolic value of targets also distinguishes terrorism from other simple acts of extreme violence. Another seldom thought component behind terrorism is that these acts seek to inflict psychological damage rather than demolish its material or ability to fight (Matusitz). Terrorism exploits symbolism by using it to push an extremist agenda, commit graves acts of terror and strategically target items or people of interest. Terrorism uses symbolism in many dissimilar ways. The most basic of ways are established terror groups adopting symbols and flags and associating them with the noble causes for the public. Signature based detection uses searching for known shifts or shreds of data within executable code. Prior to the Dawes Severalty Act, each tribe had communally owned land. From inside school grounds, to outside, cultures clash. During this month of August everyone is reminded of Hurricane Katrina and I cannot help, but to think about how during that experience so much trouble was going on between the different cultures in the city. Some rituals include pre game talk from sport anchors, buying of apparel, and Super Bowl parties. Sport Anchors go all day discussing other teams that had chances to make it, but most importantly they discuss the two teams playing, their key players, and players that once played for them. At this point, the sport anchors are getting everyone involved with the history of the teams as well as current information about the teams and players to remind fans and viewers. One thing that stood out to me about the preparation of the Super Bowl and the sport anchors were the discussion of Stuart Scott. Stuart Scott was a well known sport anchor that recently died of cancer. They brought him up and became emotional because of his debt to society, sport, and the cultural of the sport. He was an inspiration to individuals who didn t engage or watch sport on the regular. Even some of the players of the Super Bowl teams discussed how much he had impacted their lives. This shows another level of cultural unity among players and individuals who analyze the sport. Fans are also getting involved by pulling from their closets throwback Jerseys and current player jerseys that contain players of them team they adore. Another activity that everyone can partake in that is performed often are Super Bowl parties. Individuals get together to watch the game and eat typical food such as wings, chips dip, and drinking beer. Those particular rituals are what brings society together to come and watch the big game. Rituals that bring cultures and people from all walks of life together through the avenue of sports. Sports is one of the greatest platforms in the world.
