The I am Chinese program was launched at Universities to make people proud of being Chinese and
also, of the Communist Party that was portrayed as the governing body that has contributed greatly to
the people of China. One experience so far in China that left a strong impression on my mind was a
visit to the Shaanxi museum of history. Our tour guide was a locally educated young woman in her
twenties. As she took us through the different periods of Chinese history, at every exhibit showing
some sort of tool or mechanistic contraption she would turn and say as you can see, the Chinese
people are very smart! She also recounted a story in which she was very offended that an American
made a comment that Chinese people are short, to which she replied yes, we are, but we have five
thousand years of history and culture! Both the richness and vastness of Chinese history was a huge
source of pride for her, as her slightly illogical response to the American s comment shows. In
retrospect, her age denotes that she grew up on the government s campaign in the 1990s to educated
students about China s greatness, to foster pride. At the same time however, China s battered history
with the West since the Opium war of the mid 19th century was emphasized to demonstrate how

In 2008 and the years after, the auto industry along with most other industries suffered greatly due to
the recession. This impacted Detroit, the Motor City, greatly. Thousands of people were out of work,
many companies leaving the area, and the overall moral of the city changed. The ad starts out with
shaky footage of an industrial city looking pretty gloomy. This illustrates how many view Detroit. The
narrator of the ad starts the monologue of by posing a question, what does this city know about
luxury? Hm? . This statement use irony to make the audience think. An image of a Detroit Interstate
sign is presented. The narrator asks What does a town that has been to hell and back know about the
finer things in life? . He answers his own question with more than most. . Throughout this monologue
more images of Detroit are presented. Some examples are an American flag, abandon build, and
downtown area. Images like these help the audience visualize the variety of Detroit. After the first part
of monologue, a shoot of a car s rear view and side mirror are displayed. This builds anticipation of
what is to come. Then the front façade of what can be presumed as the same vehicle is quickly
displayed. After that, an iron sculpture of an arm is displayed, followed by a painting of men work on

After Horace Walpole redefined the term Gothic with his literary form that mixed history and fantasy
in a way that was meant to create wonder and terror, the term developed to take a on many
interconnected meanings. These meanings include Goths/Visigoths which Edward Gibbon describes

The Fall of the House of Usher begins with the narrator passing through the country at length . This

The Causes Of Fascism
Fascism is a widely debated topic, many theories are proposed regarding its origins, its appeal, the
support it gained from big business and the cooperation it received from the Catholic Church. What I
believe to be an inalienable truth is that early signs of fascism are firmly rooted in the First World War.
To argue that the First World War caused fascism however is debatable, I will hold the belief that the
First World War was a catalyst for fascism, that fascism as Roger Eatwell puts was embryonic rather
than fully formed (R. Eatwell, Fascism: A History) and that the war created a unique environment and
opportunity for the nurturing and growth of fascist ideologies. I will discuss what I believe to be the
most potent factors that pushed the growth of fascism, the economic crisis of the 1920s and the
subsequent weakening of western liberal democracies, the discontentment and chagrin of the Italian
and German public towards victory and defeat respectively and most importantly, the threat of
Communism and its political manipulation.

The two main independent variables that have to be included in the conceptual model are the
management board and the resources and capabilities of the company. It has been discussed in the
literature that two of the four factors that influence the performance of businesses in their
internationalization process are the management level and the control of resource capacity (Zeng,
Tam, Wan, 2009). A distinction between resources and capabilities must be made: resources are the
productive assets of the firm, while the capabilities are what the firm can do. It is the management
board that decides upon the acquisition, development, usage and control of resources and the
development of capabilities. Managers will select a set of resources from those available to the firm
that they believe are responsible for achieving their vision of the business, which will result in the
desired sustained competitive advantage of the company (Kunc, Morecroft, 2010). Furthermore, the
board will have to decide on other matters as well, which can alter the international performance of
the company, whether it be positive or negative.
